I've heard both good and not so great reviews about this place, so I had to check it out myself to see. Food was good, I love it how they have a small portion to get, perfect for 1 person. Price is very reasonable. I got the mongolian beef and crab cheese wontons. The food was very hot still when I got home, but the wontons were very greasy and did not have a lot of filling in them. Though they were deep fried perfectly and the filling was more of a cream cheese texture. Though getting 10 of them in an order was nice. The mongolian beef was actually fairly good. Maybe if I try another appetizer, it might get one more star, but it might not, I don't know.

This place is awesome!! down the street from my house -- super fast delivey -- reasonably priced -- and amazing food. I reccommend the Lo Mein, and cashew chicken, egg rolls, and crab cheese wontons. Overall its all amazing -- it is kinda funny when the white delivery guy comes to your door, hahaha

Stopped on my way home and decided to try this place. It has an open kitchen, so I saw the cook prepare my order. . The dish "Happy Family" was flavorless and seemed to have been made with yesterdays vegetables and off flavored chicken and beef; the normal shrimp were missing. I ended up throwing the remaing dish away. If your looking for good Chinese, try somewhere else. For $10.00 they should take more care with their ingrediants, and not to try and use sub-par foods

it's about time i write a review for Sun Wah, seeing as how i've probably eaten here twice a week for 6 months now. The food is great. I honestly think it might be the best chinese in Denver, take out or otherwise. I always get chicken lo mein or chicken and broccoli, and no matter what i love it. I also get an egg roll every time, and their egg rolls are perfect. Service is always quick and friendly, and I have no complaints or issues with the staff. The lady that works up front is literally there open to close every day, I don't know how she does it. This isn't a fancy restaurant, there isn't much to the decor. It's just plain booths along the side of the restaurant. I usually just take it home. Price is awesome. Food is awesome.

I have lived in the area for 15 years and have eaten here more times than I can count. If you are looking for over priced and over rated PF Chang or the like move on. If you are looking for good food, fair price, and a family business than this is the place! I LOVE the egg drop soup! It is my go to soup when I am sick or it is cold outside. I have eaten most everything on the menu and it is all good.

Five stars people! Ive eaten here about 10 times, use to live in the area but now i'm about 20 minutes away and still visit here when I'm craving chinese food. I don't know what it is about other Chinese restaurants in Denver but its hard to find one with that wow popping flavor. Sun Wah isn't the best Chinese food I've had but its the best in the area. You can watch them cook your food which I'm a huge fan of. Prices are decent I recommend going before 3 and getting their lunch specials.

This place has pretty mediocre reviews, but last night I was discussing it with my boyfriend and we realized that probably means it is the best Chinese restaurant in Denver because so far we have tried many of the "best Chinese Food in Denver" restaurants and they have pretty much all sucked or been meh at best. Sun Wah has duck sauce and also chicken rice soup which both cause unheard of confusion at most Chinese restaurants I go to here. For those of you who are from Denver or other parts of the midwest and don't know what chicken rice soup is, I will explain it. You take a plastic takeout container, eithe pint or quart size. Then you put in some chicken broth, some white rice, a few pieces of shredded chicken, and a couple scallion slices for garnish. Then you say here you go customer here is some chicken rice soup that will be $1.95-$5.00 depending on size and what type of restaurant it is. That is all I want. Thank you Sun Wah for making it happen. FYI, in other cities, it's not always on the menu but since it is literally some chicken broth and rice they will usually make it for you and call it a day instead of telling you it's impossible to make.

I have ordered delivery twice from Sun Wah in the last couple of months. The first time, I had General Tso's chicken (sub fried rice), and tried some of my girlfriend's lo mein, both of which impressed me. There was a lot of flavor in the food, a good sweet heat to the chicken and the noodles were tasty as well. The second time, which was last night, was a wholly different experience. We ordered Gen. Tso's with fried rice again, but with some egg rolls, and steamed wontons. The dumplings had a powder sprinkled all over (MSG? Bonito? It was EXTREMELY salty), they came in a box with goopy brown liquid, and had zero texture. I couldn't eat them from the gross overuse of salt. The egg rolls were disappointing as well - soft, undercooked dough and flavorless filling. No homemade sauce, just a packet of duck sauce to cover it. Crab wontons included with the Gen. Tso's were similar. Same story with the chicken: overdone, chewy, too much breading on the meat, no spice. The only thing that was consistently decent on both orders was the fried rice. I was excited to try Sun Wah again after my first order from them, but to say this was a disappointment is generous. Two stars, only because of my first experience there.

Definitely not my favorite place I don't think the veggies are very fresh everything tastes pretty fishy as well it's definitely an OK place if you're in a hurry and on the go

This was my first time here and I was pleased. I give it 5 stars more for the customer service than the food (though the food was delicious as well). I had the lo mein, ribs, and sesame chicken wings (soo addicting)!! The food was fast and fresh.

Excellent Chinese food for a reasonable price! The food is excellent, my friends and i have ordered beef fried rice, kung pao chicken, pepper steak, sweet and sour pork, egg rolls and much more. We loved all of it! We requested delivery one night, they said they'd be at our apartment in 45 minutes, and they actually were here in exactly 28 min from the time i called! Overall, we're very happy with this restaurant and will be making it our weekly Chinese food spot! Best chinese food in denver, by far!

We used to order from here a lot before I found a mealworm in my fried rice. Needless to say I haven't ordered from here since, and I've given up on Chinese food for a while. There are other places to try that aren't so bad that are a little farther away and taste much fresher than this place. Take your money elsewhere and enjoy some Chinese without the bugs.

The food had an amazing flavor very fresh. I got the Mongolian beef.. but it was like a voyage trying to find the little amount of meat they put in the entrees.. Should change the name to the Mongolian vegetables..

Not too shabby at all! It was raining freezing cold rain and I wanted some Chinese food- sunwahhhhhhh's general Tso's chicken meal and a large cup of chicken ad rice soup! HUGE portions and very full flavors await you at this Chinese destination in south east Denver! For the money it was most definitely worth it - I'm a big man and I couldn't finish my meal! The soup had to be saved for munchies or leftovers and so did about half my meal!

Ordered delivery from here last night. Overall the food was really well seasoned and the portions were generous! We had the Teriyaki Beef and the BBQ ribs. It was actually much better than some of the other Chinese restaurants we've ordered from around the Denver area. They delivered in record timing also! I'll definitely be ordering again for the convenience of this location being just down the street and because the food was delish!

I'm kinda shocked how this place isn't 5 STARS they are freaking fast, not just good but great food and how is it that the Chinese place (next to a empty shut down Safeway building) has better English communication skills than most pizza places?!? This place is a small piece of gold for those living in its delivery zone.

Cheap, fast, close, and good! What more can you ask for in a strip mall chinese restaurant? It's been around since I moved here 9 years ago, so it's definitely got staying power. We had the kung pao chicken which packed some heat and a lot of flavor. I think Sun Wah is a great place for take out or just a low-cost good meal!

I've tried to like Sun Wah. I really have. Tonight was my last try. My husband ordered the sesame wings and I ordered the spicy wings. They were inedible. We both ate about 4 or 5 and ended up tossing the rest in the trash. $20 gone down the drain. I'm back on the hunt for great Chinese food in Denver.

  • Damion W.

Definitely one of my favorite Chinese restaurants in the area. If you want some quick, cheap, and fast Chinese cuisine, I would definitely recommend this place. The portions are pretty big and you definitely get your money's worth. Take this place for what it is, its Chinese fast food. It isn't the quality of Jing (and you aren't paying the price either) and it DAMN SURE isn't the quality of a $1 a scoop Chinese restaurant (and you aren't paying the price in the bathroom afterwards)

  • Kenya T.

What can I say really good cheap Chinese food!!!! The small size container is like a large size at other Chinese restaurants.

  • Frank T.

Cheap and fast is rarely good and unfortunately Sun Wah is far from good. If you are looking for something to quiet a ravenous hunger and neither flavor nor ingredients matter this place will do the trick. If you are looking for quality ingredients and genuine flavors don't stop. It is very unfortunate that the vast majority of strip mall Chinese food joints don't seem to care. I know this place has been around for a long time and a lot people in the surrounding area think of it as their go to Chinese restaurant, but if you have any experience with genuine Chinese food it is obvious that this is not it. I wish they cared and I wish it was better. There are barely any good Chinese food restaurants in Denver. I will say that they do not mess up the frozen dumplings that they heat up and sell. That and the fried chicken are pretty good. Maybe dumplings and fried chicken could be the new chicken and waffles...?

It's fast food, it's fairly priced, I didn't get sick. That's really all I can ask for from Sun Wah. I had their lo mein twice now and both times I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of meat in there. I am however a little skeeved out about the "egg" in their egg fried rice, but not skeeved out enough not to eat it apparently. I had their orange chicken, wasn't what I expected but didn't taste bad, it tasted pretty decent actually. I've not had any issues with services or attitude, if anything they're generally pretty nice and patient. I mean, it's Chinese fast food, adjust your expectations.

Fast, locally owned.... Great place for some good greasy Chinese! We live close and go here a couple times per month. Their beef and broccoli was especially good with some extra spice.

  • Joe J.

The food wasn't overly tasty, but I don't think you would go here expecting high quality or high class cuisine. It is what it is, fast Chinese food that doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Our order was perfect, relatively well priced for what we got, and we didn't get sick afterward. Yea it is sad when it comes to rating specific types of restaurants on whether or not you get sick from them, but Sun Wah is a well-established restaurant. We'll definitely try this place again when we get the urge for some quick Chinese food.

Have been back several times since my last review and I'm still happy. I rally like their hot and sour soup. It tastes a little different that other places I have had it but frankly it's addicting!

Those are some harsh reviews. They're great people and have great food. I eat there all the time and they are always considerate and I get my food fresh and hot.

If I could have given two and a half stars, I would have. But in the interest of fairness, I thought I'd just round up. The ladyfriend and I decided to splurge and get some Chinese tonight (we're pretty regular gym goers and usually eat pretty healthy) and had read some good reviews on CitySearch (note: Don't trust CitySearch, trust Yelp.) Reviewers raved about the egg rolls. Eggrolls? Egg-rolls? Those things. They were mediocre. The pork ones were better than the veggies ones. She had Beef with Chinese vegetables which she described as "satisfying." (she did go back to the container for a little more.) I had orange chicken which was better at the end than it was at the start. The spice in the sauce took a minute or so to kick in, very sweet and spicy. Kudos for that. Crag rangoons were bland...not very crab filled. But basically if you're frying something, I'll enjoy it, so I can't complain too much. Price was decent. About the same as you'd expect anywhere else. They DO have small and large portions which is nice, and not something I've seen at many Chinese food restaurants. The small portions were plenty big for us (with some white rice, an egg roll, and a pair of rangoons) and we definitely have leftovers for two. So the portions are well-sized. We paid $20 for all that, and that's not bad for four total meals. I've had better Chinese food, (namely Hoong's down in the DTC) but if you live in the Glendale-ish area, s'not a bad place to get some quick grub (only 10 minutes for our order!) They do takeout and Delivery...I'm not sure if they have Dine-in, I didn't happen to look.

Not sure why this place only gets 2 stars, it's really good, cheap Chinese food. Had it a handfull of times and has always been really good!!

Ya know, I don't even remember the food. . . This was the closest place when we moved into our house and the atmosphere was so dreadful that I would have rather have stayed home and unpacked boxes and been hungry. Big handwritten sign "IF CUSTOMER MAKES MISTAKE ON ORDER, YOU PAY." I guess somebody must have mistakenly said they wanted chicken lo mein, then changed their mind? I don't know, but I wish I'd taken a picture of the sign. Because our new house was chaos, we dined in. Our only dining companion was a big sour mop bucket and mop sitting in the middle of the dining room. Yuck. My new neighbor ordered this food for book club once and everyone raved, but I doubt I'll go back.

Very good take out Chinese food under $10. Seems to be busy most of the time but I can call in my order and pickup 10 minutes later. Had roast pork Lo Mein and General Tso's chicken. You can order a small or large portion depending on your appetite I think I am getting hooked on this place as I seem to be thinking of this place for dinner on the way home quite a bit since discovering it 2 months ago. Owners are very cordial and are always smiling.

Bah to you naysayers! It's not fine dining, its take out chinese. And as take out chinese goes I'd give it a big thumbs up. The food is consistantly hot, fresh, tasty, and full of greasy goodness. The food also is prepared obscenely fast, I can call from my house, get in my car, drive 5 minutes down the road and my food will be waiting for me. Best fast chinese food around.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
