Nothing to write home about. Good, not exceptional. I highly recommend Efrain's in Boulder or La Fayette - true Mexican food. Anyhow, the greatest thing I found about this place was their nacho cheese they served with chips and salsa. That was a first! Since I love cheese, I couldn't complain. Kudos! I ordered their carnitas plate. The pork, rice and beans were delicious but the sauce that the carnitas came in was horrible. Yuck! The sauce wasn't a tomatillo sauce, but rather, a clumpy yellow green slim. Didn't like it at all. I don't know if I'll be going there again.

I eat hear often. The food is fine and inexpensive. They have tons of fish on the menu, but I've only tried their normal "burito" "tostada" fare, which is perfectly fine for a local lunch.

  • Don R.

Prompt service. Extensive menu. Try the carne adobada. Or chicharrones in any form.

  • Barbara S.

Horrible, horrible, horrible food... I've been here three times now and all three times I've had a bad experience with the food. Green chile warning: IT'S YELLOW! The meat is bland and for some reason the rice tastes like Windex. Go somewhere else!

  • Will G.

The Good: The food is always amazing. The Steak burrito smothered is a game changer. The staff is friendly and there is never a long wait, even when they are busy. This is a must stop restaurant if you are in the area. If you arent in the area, here is a good reason to be in that area! The Bad: They host sporting events on Pay-Per-View there so on those nights it can get a little loud and rowdy. Not your idea setting for a family meal. The Ugly: The layout is odd and the bathrooms are dimly lit. Dont watch any spiders in bathroom videos on YouTube before going there or you will be too worried to handle your business.

I don't understand the negative comments on here... The restaurant is clean, the staff is always friendly, the portions are good and the price is average for Mexican restaurants in the area. The free chips and salsa also comes with a free side of queso. I really like the tamale plate. And the picture of an old Mexican lady smoking a doobie in the lobby is classic!

  • Damara A.

Nice family run service. Everyone was very pleasant and genuine. Hot green chile has an excellent kick, but I preferred the flavor of the mild chile. The hot chile had a smoky, almost burned flavor, but the spice was truly hot which is a nice treat. The crispy rellanos were delicious. The Steak Burrito Supreme, Steak Chimichanga, and Nacho Supreme were all tasty. Chips and salsa were good. I really like the flavor of the mild green chile. Hubby said it is just spicy enough. I will order it next time for the flavor, even though I don't find it particularly spicy.

Food was pretty good but the service was horrible. Took a while to seat is, took even longer to order and no one ever checked on us while eating to see of we needed anything. Definitely not going back

We were driving around trying to find a Mexican restaurant that was open for breakfast. We seen that was Lagunas was opened. When we walked in it was kind of dingy and little creepy, but we didn't want to be rude so we tried it. After we have eaten we should of have left and went some where else. We were just disappointed in the quality and taste. I am a big fan of chilaquiles so that's what I ordered and theses were horrible and I did not even eat half of them. My wife only ate half of her breakfast burrito cause it tasted weird . More than likely not going back. I had a convo with my cousin and explained we ate there and he said you should of asked me first cause I would of told you not to go there. You live and you learn!!!

So we haven't tried this place in years because it was so bad before but thought we would give it a shot since our usual place was closed today. So we walked in and it was filthy. Dirty dishes all over the front area. We stood there for a couple of minutes and finally asked if we seat ourselves. The gal seemed very overwhelmed filling chip baskets and said give me a minute and left. That was all we needed and decided to walk out. We were grossed out and turned off before we were even seated. Won't be back here again!

Decent mexican place for lunch. I have tried several of their dishes and nothing really stands out .. Chips and salsa are the highlight. Ok food. Ok service.

Food was ok but, overpriced, I did like the queso with the chips though. Waitress was slow and rude, we won't go back.

This place has gone to hell! It used to be quality. They served my wife and I undercooked pork, they refused to make it right and offer us something else, they refused to remove the charge from the bill as well. The server picked through my wife's plate then handed it back..who does that shit? The manager didn't even have the decency to come out and talk to us. Next morning, I was sick as hell. This place needs to be reported to authorities, not praised! Don't waste your time people!

Food was very good, everything else sucked. Ordered a steak fajita burrito, got chicken. Took 30 mins for food to arrive, services was distant and unwelcoming.

Service is fast and friendly. Server did not speak English well and did not give us the right order. Torta's were a reasonable price however were not very good. It was mostly just fat.

CAUTION: BE SURE TO DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!!!!! Don't get me wrong this place has AWESOME FOOD! Man.. this was one of my favorite spots when visiting Colorado good food and nice people. But this passed Friday me and my coworker stopped by for happy hour 2-6pm. we ordered food and drink before happy hour ended like normal. the waitress came by before 6 to ask if we wanted to order 1 more before happy hour ended and we said yea, she ends up bringing the drinks later after 6 we think nothing of it and continue to eat. later when the bill came they charge full price for the drink we ordered before happy hour and said we ordered it to late. we then tell her that she was the one who asked us if we wanted to order before it was to late and she denied it. ON TOP OF THAT.. they waitress charged us for 6 customers which included gratuity, and when i questioned the waitress about it she told me that everyone is charged gratuity if its 1 or 20. I told her to run the receipt with ONLY 2 CUSTOMERS which was me and my co worker she sayed she couldn't. Im and easy going person and rarely complain but the way they handled this was wrong and who knows how many people they've done this to, all i warn is DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RECEIPT!

This place is disgusting both inside and out. Embarrassing to have such a disappointment for Mexican in Denver. Took an out of town guest there knowing that most places around here know how to serve up some pretty decent cuisine but wouldn't ya know it I chose the one place that had dirty bathrooms and food that tasted like it was cooked in one of the stalls.

I can't believe I've lived up north for so long and have never been to Laguna's. I liked this little place. I couldn't decide between the carnitas tacos and the tacos al pastor - and my server made the right call when he offered to split an order for me. So I got to try both! And they were both delicious. Fresh ingredients - especially the avacado slices that came with my tacos were perfect - not too hard and not too soggy/soft. The pastor tacos were just the right amount of sweet; the carnitas, which are always my favorite, were a little dry but still had a nice flavor. The service was really friendly and swift. Next time I want to try their green chile and there was a beef filled chile relleno that sounded really interesting - on my "gotta try" list for a future visit. Overall, I would definitely go back!

I like to start out with the positives: great margaritas! Everything else is a bit inconsistent. I've had amazing tamales and mediocre tamales. Great service and almost no service. It's a gamble, but probably one worth making. Quite affordable (comparable to most Mexican restaurants in the area) and the best place right near by I have tried (but venture further south for better options if you're picky about your Mexican food).

  • Kris K.

Really, really good Mexican / New-Mexican food. I wouldn't go specifically for the green chili, but the main dishes we had were great. The seafood was fresh, the tacos al-pastor were amazing and the pork was delicious. I would go here again in a heartbeat. Service was fast and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Full bar witha good selection of Tequillas. One negative... The sopapillas were disappointing. I would wait on desert for the DQ next door.

File under: a wolf in sheep's clothing, or a sheep in wolf's clothing, or something like that. Nestled in a strip mall with a liquor store, a nail place and a sad little Dairy Queen, Laguna's is one of those places that you'd drive by and say to yourself, "Oh yeah, I bet the food is REALLY good in there." And it's got all the classic warning signs as well. Garish happy hour specials painted on the windows. Video games and quarter-fed candy machines near the front door. And a "sports bar" in the back that had a karaoke night that I've been lucky enough to miss out on. But you know what they do have? Kick-ass tacos al pastor. If you don't know what al pastor is, it's like the Mexican version of gyros. Marinated pork that's cooked on a vertical rotisserie, traditionally with a pineapple skewered above it so that, as it cooks, it gets basted with the juices. Done right, it's one of those dishes that your mind will drift back to as you're eating Taco Bell on one of those nights you don't have time to cook and don't have the patience to take the kids to a proper sit-down restaurant. And Laguna's does it right. I don't know if they do the whole rotisserie thing, but the flavor is spot-on. It's served traditionally on small, fresh corn tortillas (two per taco) with accompaniments of diced onion, cilantro, avocado slices and salsa. And pineapple. Can't forget the pineapple, as that's what takes a good al pastor to the next level. What about the rest of the menu you ask? It's huge, and full of traditional Mex fare, including lots of seafood (which I have yet to try). This is the burbs, so the menu also contains a bunch of gringo-fied items. They have a kids menu that's not surprising, but still makes me sad. I mean, c'mon, you don't HAVE to offer corn dogs and chicken strips at a Mexican restaurant, do you? But the place is definitely family friendly. Service can be spotty, but it's been ok more often than not. So, warts and all, I like Laguna's, and I'm glad it's in my hood. Sure, you may have to sit next to a table of bikers getting sloppy on giant blue margaritas, but it's a small price to pay for really good tacos. Cheers!

I love this place. I mean where else can do you get complimentary queso to go with your chips and salsa? The margaritas are stiff, the service is great and the green chili is tasty (it could be hotter but I understand why they tone it down). If your like me you probably drive by this place several times a week, next time you do stop in and I'm sure you'll be glad you did.

I had a lot of hope for this place. They start you out with chips and 2 sauces. One red, the other yellow. Absolutely no texture to them, so sauce and powdered cheese sauce...not salsa y queso. They tasted slightly better than they looked. Usually you can tell how the meal will be by the salsa they serve. The menu is great. Lots of authentic dishes, from seafood, mole, carnitas, etc. I love mole, so I had to try a mole enchilada with steak and a flauta. The mole was not good at all. The steak was huge, but that's it, no flavor. The flauta was delicious. Good marinated chicken. Guacamole was a mix, but good flavor. My wife had a combo. She said it was forgettable. I tried her chile rellano...it was ok. They charged extra for substitutions, and her rice and beans. No big deal. They have enormous portions. I just didn't think it was tasty or authentic. Not sure why it has such good ratings. I'm just glad I didn't try the seafood.

I was thinking this place would be good, and it was actually great! I wasn't sure when I first looked at the menu- some things were expensive and I just wanted to sample the tacos, but the plates were 3 (of the same) tacos... my friend got the tacos al carbon and I got the tacos al pastor and we traded one. OMG, both were amazing. I eat a lot so I was tempted to add rice and beans for $1 but didn't and once I put the extras on the tacos (comes with lettuce, cilantro, onions, pico, and avocado slices on the side!) and had my fill of the free chips & salsa & queso, I was totally satisfied and decided to take one taco home for later, which I am now enjoying throughly. The salsa is good, interesting, not chunky has a bit of a bite to it. The meats must be marinated really well, they were so tender and flavorful. So a 3 taco plate, chips and salsa and queso for $6.95, all completely delicious... yes please!! That's cheaper than Rubios. They did seat a rowdy bunch of fellows right next to us hollering and laughing and saying dirty words in Spanish, but it felt like home (I'm from San Diego) and they were all having a good time so I didn't care. I can see this becoming a new obsession since we only live a couple blocks away. We can watch a game, have a few drinks and tacos for rather cheap and walk it home. Yesss.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
