I love this place. I've been going there before they expanded and it was tiny place. I use to live in the neighborhood and always took friends there. Love their sushi and love the staff, both are great! Now I live out of state stand when I come home to Denver I always have to go at least a few times. Always order the sushi, it's my fav! They do a great tempura Philly roll and everyone I bring always loves it! Will always recommend this place!!!

I'm giving this place 5 stars. We came here for the first time and were seated right away. They were fairly busy because they only had one server on. Unfortunately, we didn't have the best service. Fortunately, the food was delicious. So, we came back. The past two time we've gone it's been amazing service AND awesomely fresh sushi! The nigiri we had was So buttery every time!! We love this place!

Tried out Kassai Sushi tonight because of the great reviews and the $1 happy hour (until 10pm). Really a disappointing and stressful experience. Kassai Sushi is tucked away in a shopping strip on Quebec strip. The outside is unassuming, but I was initially impressed by the large interior; it was clean and appeared very well taken care of. We were seated immediately. We ordered tea and an Age Tofu to start, which I have to admit was pretty good, although a bit slow to come out. The waitress (who appeared harried and rushed) gave us menus and a paper form to check off what we wanted. We ordered several sushi pieces, and then later ordered a few rolls. That's when things fell apart. We waited and waited. After about 30 minutes, we asked what was going on, and our waitress looked over to the sushi bar and said 'it's coming' before rushing off again to the kitchen. Our waters never got refilled, and neither did my tea. Turns out, they had lost our sushi order, although it took them another 10 minutes to figure it out. We got our rolls first, and then we had to reorder the sushi. Another 20 minutes, and I could see our sushi, just sitting there on the counter while they took care of all the other customers, even though we had been waiting there for about an hour for the 2nd half of our order. Frustrated, we called for the bill and they put the rest of our order into a box, having never even delivered it to our table. And to top it all off, when I got home, there were only 8 pieces in the box (we had ordered and were charged for 9). !!! I'm giving it 2 stars because the food wasn't bad and the rolls were creative; the fish was fairly fresh. I think the sushi chefs know what they're doing for the most part. But their service clearly needs work. The waitstaff was completely disorganized--I could see them shuffling papers trying to figure out which order went where and arguing about it. The restaurant wasn't busy, so this wasn't the reason; they need to rethink their system. There was absolutely no form of service recovery, just a few 'I'm sorry's' as they rushed us out the door. I got the sense that this was the normal order of business. We went away hungry and annoyed, and most of all, stressed. It was a complete waste of $$ for a date night for what was supposed to be a relaxing and fun evening.

I like the whole restaurant atmosphere. I had the mummy roll, golden mussels, edamame, smoked salmon & shrimp nigiri, cucumber salad, and it was all fantastic. Can't forget the mochi ice cream!

Very happy to have finally found a sushi place we want to frequent...such an amazing place AND so close to our house! The fish here is fresh, truly sushi grade cuts of fish. And the rolls are very inventive and well-seasoned. If you like heat, they have some great rolls. Reasonably priced, great beer/sake selection, and a very friendly staff. CanNOT wait to go back!

I have always been a fan of sushi and since moving out to Denver I have ordered sushi from this resturant dozens of times. It's my go to place. The sushi is always fresh and made correctly. Delivered on time - somewhere in the ballpark of 25 to 30 min every time. I highly recommend the shaggy dog roll and gyoza. I would stay away from the pan fried noodles though if you're ordering delivery, they come tasting faintly of the plastic containers their in. Overall, fantastic food and service every single time! I will continue to be a customer! :)

I used their online order & delivery service (no extra charge for delivery!) They advertise that food would arrive in 45 minutes (which is really fast). It instead came in 1 hour and 20 minutes (which seems more accurate if you think about how much time it takes to make the food and how much time it takes to locate your customer). I am subtracting a star for that false advertisement. However, I will give them props for arriving straight at my door despite my complex being gated and difficult to get into. It was a pleasant surprise that I didn't have to go walk out in the cold to open the gate to the parking lot. I tried the hot night roll for $12.95 (Shrimp tempura & cucumber topped w/ spicy tuna & tempura flakes, spicy mayo and eel sauce), the spicy tuna cilantro roll for $5.95 & the shaggy dog roll for $11.95 (Ebi tempura & avocado inside, crab meat & tempura crunch, out spicy mayo). Sushi in general is always on the pricier side but I thought that for the size of these rolls, the price would be considered even steeper here. The rolls are pretty compact and I was able to finish all but 4 pieces of my meal. So (with tip), that's about a $36 dinner to get me full. The rolls were a little bit scant on fish but I thought the quality of the fish was good. I liked how they gave a lot of wasabi and ginger.

Always a reliable place for dine in, carry out or delivery. The sushi is fresh and the service is good. Plenty of seating. Fairly quick service too.
(4)Bre H.
I like the food, the ambiance of this place and the staff. I've dined in a few times and was satisfied however, I ordered delivery and was not quite happy. The rolls were just ok and they didn't seem full like they did when I actually ate there. I would eat in again but not order a delivery. Not to mention my sushi was completely destroyed by the time it was delivered, I assume the driver was drag racing with the the sushi tied down to the hood of the car??
(3)Moa A.
I was here for lunch. The place was empty, the sushi was below average. The rolls were broken apart and awkwardly misshaped. They have more than sushi but didn't try anything else but the sushi.

Kassai Sushi would be easy to miss, unless you knew what you were looking for. Tucked into a micro shopping center on the west side of Quebec St. Between another Asian restaurant and a nail salon, it really doesn't stand out. At least until you taste the food! The dining room is deceptively large, but not huge. The bankets are upholstered with Cosmo and Martini recipies. There are a few other decorations on shelf partitions. Decor is a little eclectic but clean and you're not here for that, right? Kassai has a smaller menu of special rolls than most places, but that's good for me. I like the classic nigiri sushi, maybe a rainbow or a dragon roll (both excellent, by the way) and no sauce or glaze that is popular as a topping. I wrote no glaze at the bottom, and although I didn't have a chance to point it out to the waitress, I heard her telling the chefs, bonus points!!! (And a 20% tip) My husband wanted to try some Sake, and although I know nothing about it, the hostess humored us by pointing out the most popular variety. The rolls themselves are on the small side, all the better to take dignified bites, I say. The ingredients are fresh, and dinner here, including a bottle of Sake or a couple of drinks won't break the bank.

I have been here WAY WAY back before my Yelping days, hence this time around with my friend and this recent visit was Monday June 2nd 2014. Time was about 11:15hrs ish. Thankfully my friend had not been to this establishment before. What turns me off, was when we entered this establishment, there were a stance of foul smelling thing that lingers the air. Maybe they have bad circulation of the Air-Con unit system. We are definitely the first patrons dining in at that hour, till some time later there are many more other patrons dining in. But before that, this establishment is indeed "dead". Yes its empty, in a good way, coz I feel I can have the restaurant all by ourselves. But at the same time it can be eerily quiet. Where are other patrons?? Nevertheless, these were the items that I ordered for Lunch. Just take note its ONLY 1 Single Nigiri for each item that they offered here at Lunch. * Tako ($1.75) * Unagi ($2.00) * Ika ($2.00) * Hokigai ($2.00) * Scallop ($2.75) * Uni ($3.50) * Ama Ebi (2pc) ($7.00) * Tamago ($1.75) * Tobiko ($2.00) * Golden Mussels ($5.50) * Strawberry Mochi ($1.50) * Mango Mochi ($1.50) Another observation once again, my order of Ama Ebi, comes with SHRIMP HEADS WITHOUT THE SHELL! *SIGH* This is yet another establishment that offer those SHRIMP HEADS WITHOUT THE SHELL... Why?? Why?? *DOUBLE SIGH* If I am NOT mistaken my friend ordered these items : * White Tuna ($2.00) * Tako ($2.00) * Unagi ($2.00) * Hamachi Roll ($4.50) * Miso Soup ($1.50) * Vanilla Mochi ($1.50) * Red Bean Mochi ($1.50) All in all a successful Lunch on Monday. Just OK Sushi. Nothing stood out for my personal taste bud. Oooh not forgetting while I was there, I also met another fellow Yelper who is a regular at this establishment. Thankfully while we were there, many more patrons dining in for Lunch. Kassai Sushi 731 Quebec St, Denver, CO 80220 Tel : (303)-320-0833 kassaisushi.com @122/2014

We live in Crestmoor and have 4 year old twins... So when we have a hankering for sushi and know we can't get out of the house, their delivery service is perfect! I would not consider Kassai one of the exceptional sushi places in Colorado, but the fish and food quality is well above average. If you were to base your decision to eat here strictly on the shopping center and exterior, you might not dine here. But I will tell you that they are worth the shot. I will also say that they are a little higher priced than they should be.
(4)Allyson K.
Went to Kassai with my family off of a recommendation and we weren't disappointed! Don't be fooled by the location of this sushi bar - it's stuck in a little strip mall but the food is very tasty! We ordered two rounds of sushi - 6 rolls total and it was plenty of food for 4 people. Everything seemed very fresh and the flavors were delicious. They were fairly busy for a Friday night but we were easily seated within minutes. Not bad prices for how good it is!

I tried something new today thanks to a brave dining companion and a solid menu of sushi and sushi rolls. I know, I know - this may not be new and exciting to most of you devoted foodies out there, but I had my first full octopus sushi day. No, not dressed up with a the colorful trappings found at most hyped-up sushi spots - their sushi was straight and to the point, which prompted me to indulge in the more traditional Japanese cuisine. The fish was fresh, well prepared, and served in a timely manner. The interior was definitely different than what I expected based on the ubiquitous shopping mall exterior. It had more of a night club vibe and definitely fall flat of interesting decor. Let's just say the upholstery on the booths were images cocktails and their respective recipes. If I find myself back in Stapleton, is gladly revisit Kassai. If anything I'll always remember it as my first 'big girl' dining experience.
(4)Robert W.
It was my first time here and I really like the atmosphere of the place the moment I step in. It wasn't crowded at all. I came in a little after 7 pm on a Wednesday and the customer service was good!! The sushi I order was great as well!!!
(5)Lauren J.
I love this place. They have great fish in a quintessential great place that happens to be in a run down strip mall. Pro tip, ask to see the book of specials. They'll make you anything out of it, ingredients allowing. This is our go to sushi joint apart from Sasa.
(5)Jason C.
Friendly staff and excellent rolls make for a special sushi experience. I eat her frequently and have never had a bad experience. Good job to the boss and staff for always making me and my belly happy. Order the crazy tuna or Tokyo roll for some good eats.
(5)Abram M.
If I could give a negative star I would. Terrible service. Took over an hour to get our sushi. When our sushi finally arrived it was the wrong order and we never got our beef roll and yet They charged us for it. They never checked on us within the hour of us waiting for our food. Our water cups were empty and never refilled. The only good thing about the meal was the wine. I'm sure the sushi was delicious but by the time we got our sushi we were unable to enjoy the flavor and instead were devouring it. Would not recommend.
(1)Maliya M.
I only give 4stars because the checkin offer for a free bottle of sake.. Is buy one get one...false advertisement .. Good sushi , a bit pricey but yummy!
(4)Todd S.
Great Service. Excellent Toro Sashimi. Sat at the Sushi bar and the sushi chef threw a nice octopus sample my way. I will be back next time in Denver
(4)Skye S.
Super fast delivery. Yummy food. Kinda expensive for what you're getting though. Overall I am planning on ordering from here again.
(4)Rick F.
Really good sushi, can't really mess it up...or can you?! Anyway, I had a living social for this place and decided to give it a shot. First thing I noticed was it was HOT inside! They must of shut off the AC! Regardless it wasn't horrible. Service was quick; server was really nice. Sushi was really good. My only complaint was that the sushi chef wasn't wearing gloves and I didn't see him wash his hands while entering or leaving the back kitchen (I work in the food industry so I notice these things). This morning my stomach wasn't too happy and I feared I may have gotten a little food poisoning. I eat out ALOT and never get sick from eating out, however I had a feeling my sickness came from the unwashed hands? (Maybe Im crazy idk) Reguardless of my fears, the sushi was priced well and was really good ( better than average). They close at 2:30 for lunch and reopen for dinner at 4:30
(4)Allie S.
This is my favorite sushi place in Denver. It's never crowded, always has fresh, tasty fish and is fairly inexpensive. I'll keep coming back every time I'm craving sushi. Thanks Sushi Kassai!
(5)Aine C.
This place has pretty good sushi, I got the vegetable tempura and the avocado salad which were both fresh and good. The sweet potato tempura was not that fresh, but that was probably due to the very late delivery - almost everything was on the cold side. I ordered through Yelp (Eat24) and it said it would take 48 minutes, an hour and twenty minutes later I called them to ask where my food was and they said he was finally here. I also wrote directions on how to get to my apartment because I live in a large complex with multiple entrances which clearly no one read, when the delivery guy called me he did not seem to understand what I was saying and just said he was at the front office - so I told him it would take a few minutes for me to get over there since I had to walk through this field in the middle of our complex. I won't be getting delivery here again, but the food was pretty good.
(3)Sutton C.
This place rocks. You wouldn't notice it cruising by and it is in a tough location, but the food is fresh and very good. The happy hour is the best deal in town. Staff is friendly and service is fast!
(5)Lyndsay T.
One of my favorite spots. They are always friendly. I have never been let down by their service or their quality if food!
(5)L P.
I love the sushi at this location but credit users beware! I align with many of the reviews. The store fronts look a bit sketchy but the interior is very contemporary. One negative for me occurred when picking up an order. I live nearby and when I changed a delivery order to a pick up order, while looking for my card the waitress pulled up my name, address, phone number and full credit card number on the take out screen in large letters. Thankfully my card number had since been updated but if you are ordering I would advise using cash.
(4)Christina S.
A really great sushi joint. The wait staff was very nice and made us feel very welcome. We just moved to Colorado and have been looking for a good sushi place. Finally found it. Very fresh and flavorful. Plenty of variety and many great rolls. We had 2 rounds. The Tokyo roll and the spicy scallop roll are ones I highly recommend. You won't be disappointed.
(4)Naomi M.
It was a great experience from beginning to end; greeted right away, excellent food, great prices and most importantly wonderful customer service (mainly provided by T)! Can't wait to come back! Don't forget to check in for the free hot sake!
(5)Karen R.
Fantastic sushi!! We were at UC for several days and wanted sushi, so tried here and it was great. I would definitely recommend!
(5)Michael S.
I've been living in Denver for 2 years and have been searching for a place that serves awesome sushi. Many of Denver's sushi tends to be fancy/ fusion or just poor quality. Some of these places are kind of good, but kassai is generally simple, fresh, and affordable. The fried scallops are wicked good and the scallop handroll was even better. At one point I felt like giving a standing ovation because I finally found it. I found sushi that resonates with my tastebuds. It's saying a lot. Not once during my entire meal did my taste buds throw out warning signs of fishiness. That's a first for me in denver. Service was quick and attentive. What more can I say? I'll be back soon
(5)Michael S.
Don't let the looks device you. This place is in a shabby strip mall, and it smells like greasy food in the parking lot (From a neighboring restaurant). Just like you should judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge Kassai. The sushi is very good, and the prices are quite reasonable. The also have some very creative rolls. While not a 5 star place like Sushi Den, this is my typicall go-to sushi joint for all of my sushi cravings.
(4)Marshall B.
Visited Kassai again this evening, after about 6 months of eating elsewhere in Denver. I was reminded of how good the food is and how much we enjoy the atmosphere and service. If you haven't tried Kassai, you've missed out.
(4)Craig z.
Great Sushi at a fair price. The service is always good and none of the staff are pretentious. Highly recommended for anyone in East Denver.
(5)Stephanie G.
My husband have been here a number of times. We really like it for good, casual readably priced sushi. Not a fancy date spot but good food and decent prices. That pretty much sums it up.
(4)Mecca S.
yuck. The guy on sushi duty did a bad job. Plus he had raw fish just sitting on the counter for at least 5-10min
(2)Ruth C.
Really enjoyed happy hour here. Best $1/piece sushi and okay two-for-one saki. We had the white tuna, makeral, red clam, unagi, and hamachi nigiri sushi. We also had a spicy salmon roll. All were very good. Miso soup and green tea were both pretty good. At the end of the meal we got a fresh slice of pineapple cut up in bite size pieces. Wow, it was so fresh and sweet. What a nice surprise. Definitely going back even though they are a bit of a drive for us....we did go back and took two more with us. We all enjoyed it and the service and food were consistently good. It is becoming one of our favorite sush spots!
(4)Timmy G.
To cater to the massive population that seems to think that Japanese = sushi, too many a joint in the Denver area focuses on that and forsakes the rest of the wonderful world of Japanese cuisine. Don't get me wrong, I love sushi, but sometimes I'm looking for something a little more comforting, a little more homey. I was pleasantly surprised when I found Kassai, though, when I saw they were serving a decent array of donburi and udon. I ordered the oyakodon, which is the food equivalent of a fireplace and bunny slippers to me. Ultimate comfort! The problem isssss....I didn't receive oyakodon. I got some sort of chicken-red onion stir fry, over rice and NO egg! You can't do oyakodon without the egg! There was also no tsuyu or dashi, so I ended up dousing the dish with soy sauce. I understand that many Americans aren't going to recognize authenticity when they see it, but it doesn't excuse complacency in my mind. Sad....my search for a satisfying oyakodon continues! The sushi was also just ok....I'd rather shell out the coin for Sushi Den or Zanmai.
(3)Jack P.
I was told that this place was great and inexpensive. I found it mediocre and pricey.
(2)Tom Y.
Not very good. Soup was bland. Salad was wilted with a lot of lettuce core. Sushi rolls were just passable. Tempura shrimp was very good but the vegetables were either soggy or undercooked. Will not be going back.
(2)Jennifer B.
This was my first sushi experience ever.....and I loved it! Thanks Kassai, for starting my love of sushi! Affordable, friendly staff, and delicious. I pass by here often on my way to work, and I always remember my experience fondly.
(4)Jenn T.
I came here for take out because I was craving udon. I got the nabeyaki udon here and to my surprise it was very delicious! I should have eaten it there, but I wanted to watch some olympic events, so the takeout container came completely packed full of the contents + soup that it was near impossible to open the blazing hot container without spilling it all over my table. Nonetheless, it was still delicious once I was able to get it under control. While I was waiting, I noticed that there was a great happy hour deal on sushi. $1/piece? hmm I might have to try this, except I'm skeptical at how fresh the fish is here in colorado (i mean where are they getting these fish from? :/) haha. Other than that the restaurant is nice, clean with an interesting decor. They also have some actual Japanese sushi chefs, which makes me feel at home.
(3)Chris F.
Tried this place for lunch with a co worker and it was fantastic! Tofu Teriyaki was delicious, juiciest tofu with a crisp outside. Shashimi was fresh, didn't taste day old or from the freezer! Great prices. Definitely recommend.
(4)Michelle M.
I frequent Kassai Sushi a LOT. It is great if you are looking for some decent rolls without paying a fortune. No, they don't compare to premiere sushi places here in Denver, but if you've got the craving and you want something quick and don't feel like having an hour wait, Kassai is great. Their chicken katsu is really yummy too.
(4)Steph B.
Good selection of sushi. Nothing special but I would definitely eat there again. Relatively inexpensive.
(3)Scott H.
Great sushi! Get the Snow Roll.
(4)Alison B.
What a surprise! The shopping strip looks kind of sketchy from the outside so I wouldn't have come in here if I hadn't read the reviews. It's a great, modern restaurant inside and very spacious. The service was good and quick, though there were very few people here. Sushi was good. Not the best I've ever had, but far from the worst. They didnt tell us about the lunch menu, i wish they did. We ended up paying twice what we should have. We will definitely come back and try more. Great neighborhood choice!
(3)Krystal R.
The food is great!! Ordered more then we could eat. Services was great until the waitress said something about us looking stoned because we didnt finish everything and asked for a box... ma'am not even close, never touch the stuff. Eyes bigger than our stomachs.
(4)Kiara M.
Don't let looks fool you... This might be my new sushi sanctuary .. I'm new to Co via Ca and its hard to compare our cuisines. I've been disappointed thus far, as far as trying ethnic and specialty restaurants. But Kassai was exceptional! Great menu, fair prices and friendly staff. We ordered mango avocado salad and soft shell crab to start. Way too much avocado for my guy but not me (being the Cali girl I am) The crab crispy and fried with a savory sauce. Also had the dragon* roll, which had eel & BBQ sauce for a first try I was very appeased. I ordered the Manhattan roll which was wrapped in salmon aka perfection, and finally the Phoenix roll (I think I'm obsessed with foods named after cities) which had crab meat, plenty of avocado A+ and crunchy bits. I never finish a meal anywhere and I couldn't control myself tonight. Our waitress seemed preoccupied but I was too! So, when we did need somethin we had to flag her down. The atmosphere is very relaxed and casual nice for a quick dinner date or girls get together after work. Wish there was more of a bar I would come at a later time and enjoy the flat screen or something. Can't wait to return :)
(5)Mari C.
Great customer service. Great prices. Great sushi, coming from California with high sushi standard this places was amazing. Best miso soup I've ever had. Sushi Cheif Juan was very nice and made great hand rolls and everything he made for us was delicious. Highly recommend this place. 5 star meal without breaking the bank :) we will be coming back over and over.
(5)Andrea P.
Sushi place in walking distance of my house? You bet I go here a lot. It's hard to believe I never reviewed them until now I go here so often. I'll make it simple: Prices: same to lower than all sushi places Spicy Tuna Rolls: Yum Spicy Tuna Rolls w/ Tempura: Super Yum Kappa Rolls: That's a whole lot of small diced cucumber in there and it makes it super hard to eat Edamame: Normal Service: Usually bad but not awful
(4)Erin T.
Food was right down the middle. The atmosphere was nice and well-decorated. Not much to write home about.
(3)T G.
We used to love Kassai. Twice now, we have ordered food and waited patiently - over an hour each time - for our plate to arrive. We thought the first time was a fluke, so we tried again. Like the first time, we watched as bag after bag of take-out and delivery were prepared and sent on their way. We waited and watched as other tables were served, ordered again, served again, ordered again, and served AGAIN ( same table!) while irritating "parents" let their children RUN around the restaurant and knock into other tables and people in the process (Yes, this is the fault of the restaurant as they obviously have no standards whatsoever). Each time, we politely asked the waitress, when we finally got her attention, if our order was coming. She replied that they "were very busy, so sorry." Not sure how you justify this argument when both times, the same thing occurred. Really poor form to cater to your take-out business over your in house customers. Seriously, you're better off spending your time and money at a higher quality sushi place. Get what you pay for -or not - I guess.
(1)Joe A.
The best quality for the best price. Really the best quality period. Plus it's inexpensive. That's a much better description. I've been to the expensive places. The portions are small. At Kassai they're enormous. The quality is off the charts. So fresh. Never had a bad piece of fish here. The white fish tuna sashimi will floor you. Guarantee it. Spend $15-$20 a person on sushi alone and feel comfortable to full. It's perfect. Not sure why people are saying the service is bad. It's fine. They're their to do a job and they do it. They have a new girl within the last few months. She's American and super friendly. Futo roll is great and only $5.
(5)J H.
Great place. Have been here many times. Sit at the bar, good wine selection too and the sushi has always been great. Moderate pricing, good portions. Toro was excellent last night.
(4)Mackenzie F.
I was house sitting in the area one Friday night and didn't feel like going out so naturally I got on Yelp to find a good Sushi delivery place and man did I ever! The price was perfect for the quality of sushi. It was awesome!
(5)Danielle J.
I love this place. They make some fun roll specials that are always tasty; the sushi pieces are always fresh, & you cannot beat the price. It's a great hidden gem for getting sushi in a comfortable & clean atmosphere, without breaking the bank,& I would especially recommend it to people who are just getting into sushi. The service can be hit or miss, but after coming here for a few years, I would say it has definitely gotten better. I've tried a few other smaller sushi places in the area & they don't even come close to Kaasai!
(4)Shawn S.
We really like this place and have been numerous times with no complaints. The service has always been good and the food delicious. I give this place 4stars as there are a couple other places in Denver that have better house rolls, but that is not to say that Kassai is a slouch on any of their sushi selections. The place is a generally pretty quiet environment so that is good if you want a nice night out with your significant other. One plus is they deliver, now we have yet to try this feature but might be worth a shot on one of these snowy days when we feel like staying indoors. The prices are very reasonable as well.
(4)Rebecca J.
I haven't been to the restaurant, but I just had delivery from Kassai. The gentleman on the phone was very nice and my delivery driver was so sweet and nice. We ordered the Tuna Poke, which was delicious! I've only had it once before and this was just as yummy. The only difference was price, it was a slight bit more expensive. I had 2 pieces of Hamachi (yellow tail) nigiri. the pieces of fish were larger than I expected, so this was a great treat! We finished off with a Philadelphia Roll which was average tasting. Not bad at all. I will order from here again, as it is nice to get sushi delivered.
(4)Michael W.
I've very casually enjoyed sushi for years, but for some reason my taste buds have totally fallen in love with the stuff recently. The craving hit me when I was near Lowry recently. Quick Yelp search and I was at Kassai. I'm a beginner to this sushi thing so pardon the fact that I don't really know what I ordered. Salmon something, whatever something or other, rolly whahoozit? I really have no idea. What I do know is that they were all on the happy hour menu; which is a dollar a fishy thingy. What I'm learning is that sushi happy hours and all you can eats are not created equally. Some are truly all you eat, order whatever you want affairs. On the other hand, others like the happy hour deal at Kassai only feature the most basic things. For this reason I was a bit disappointed eating here even though everything was good and frankly I don't see the need to come back.

Happy hour here from 430 to 10 is the greatest. the sushi prices are incredible during this time, and you always get good quality sushi here. I have never been let down yet. The Decor is very clean, modern, and I would give them 5 stars if the service was better, this is a family ran establishment, and it always seems everyone has too much to do at any given time.

This was our neighborhood go to spot for sushi delivery for over 6 years. Our last order of sushi was far from fresh and our spicy tuna roll was inedible. I tried to make it right by contacting the manager but he essentially dismissed my complaint as no other customers called to complain. It is unlikely we will order from here again. Too bad management cares this little about loyal customers only looking to help them out by pointing out poor quality.

My friend lives in Stapleton, otherwise I never would have known about Kassai. The restaurant is nice and clean, with a hip vibe about it. The service was attentive, but it really wasn't too busy. We ordered a variety of rolls which were all good. The happy hour is great. But in general, the menu is very affordable.

Food is lacking and service horrible. Drive an additional 2 miles in any direction and you will have a much more enjoyable sushi dining experience.

First time I have actually ate in house. I drive past this place twice a day, to and from work. 1$ happy hour sushi kept nagging me to come in. So this time on the way home I decided to stop in. Got here about 5:15, place was pretty empty. Service was good, greeted me when I came in, I sat at the sushi bar, water was set in front of me right as I sat down. Ordered some sushi (unagi, tuna, smoked salmon) - fresh, tasty, plenty of fish but skimpy on the rice. Miso soup tasty. Overall 8 pieces of sushi, bowl of miso soup, glass of Diet Coke - with tip under $15 and out the door in 45(?) minutes. Like I have said in other reviews, I don't need to be entertained by the staff - just being professional and efficient makes me a happy camper, and here I was satisfied by the service. I noticed on the menu that they serve Katsu Don, which is my favorite Japanese dish (and not commonly found in local Japanese restaurants). I'll be back.

I give this place such a low rating because of a pretty frightening experience that would fall under service category.... I'm a vegan so I asked about the miso soup before ordering - most miso has a substance called dashi in it - which is derived from the scales of bonito fish. The waitress left the table to 'ask' if it was vegan - and returned a short time later with two bowls of the miso and said that it was just beans, no fish...... We then ordered several vegan rolls. They all looked delicious! Except for the one that had imitation crab and was covered in fish eggs. I stopped the waitress immediately and advised her that they probably gave us someone else's order - and that the california roll was definitely not ours as we were both vegans. She smiled, nodded and took our plate off to go to the chef to request he remove the california roll and give us the vegan roll we had ordered. The waitress was stopped by another waitress and they argued for a moment and then our waitress returned with the plate of sushi and placed it back down on our table. She ten proceeded to tell us that the crab was imitation crab and that the fish eggs were imitation fish eggs!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING?!?!?! What???? I politely responded that imitation crab is still made from fish which we don't eat.... and that there is no such thing as imitation fish eggs. She smiled and nodded again and took our order away... returning several minutes later with a vegan roll to replace it. The sushi was well rolled and the ingredients were fresh. The atmosphere was decent and comfortable. I liked the design of the place but I wasn't overly impressed. I won't be going back anytime soon. What if I had some sort of fatal fish allergy? They just lie to you to get you to buy/eat it? Give me a break. So not pleased.

A dead fly on my sashmi! A friend and I decided to meet here on a Saturday for lunch. We ordered 2 specialty rolls, 7 pieces of nigiri, and 4 pieces of sashimi. At the time the dead fly was discovered, we had only eaten 6 pieces (there was 16 pieces total) of the rolls and 3 pieces of nigiri. Kassi's reaction to the dead fly in our sushi was to give us 20% off the total bill. Unbelievable! 3/4 of the order was sent back uneaten. The waitress stated it was the only fly in the restaurant! Considering the preparation involved in presenting sushi and the fact that sushi is a delicate food were contamination is always a factor, I will never eat here again.

After living in Denver for a year and eating at a good number of sushi restaurants, Kassai has become my go-to spot when I'm craving raw fish. Which kind of sucks because it is a 20 minute drive from my house in Wheat Ridge, but awesome because they still have delicious $1 nigiri, all day every day. Unfortunately they stopped the 2 for 1 beer and hot sake promotion, which just about made me cry. I also came to the conclusion early on that their specialty rolls are not worth the $13+ dollars they cost. I go to another sushi spot when I want some unique, special, and really tasty rolls. I come to Kassai when I want nigiri, plain and simple. I strongly recommend the salmon, white tuna, and eel. The basic rolls are also really good- california, spicy tuna, alaska. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The appetizers, desserts, and kitchen entrees are all average (some are below average). Just go here for the nigiri. Usually a couple beers, miso, soup, gyoza, 20 pieces of nigiri and a roll will set me and my man back about $50. It's one hell of a deal when you consider that the same meal at another sushi restaurant would be at least $20 more. Also, I love the servers. Shout out to my girl T! She always gives us great service and hooks it up proper. The atmosphere is welcoming and laid back, and you don't have to fight for parking (shakes fist in general direction of LoDo). Keep up the good work, Kassai!

For being a 45 minute drive to the Rocky Mountains, there are sure quite a few sushi places. Sadly half of them are not even worth it sushi wise but what makes one come back time and time again is the sushi chefs, selection of sushi and the other people that are sitting at the sushi bar with you. I have found three hole in the wall sushi places that are worth it and to me this is one of them. I agree that parking can be horrible on the weekends and so is the service but then again, I don't go on the weekends anymore so those problems don't arise anymore. The sushi is a little better than okay, the sushi chefs are adorable and the prices are perfect. Also, it is a hole in the wall so you always know that on any weekday, you will have a seat at the sushi bar.

Moving back from San Diego where sushi is cheap cause its near the ocean and overcrowded with sushi places, this place is amazing . Great staff, great sushi, and the best in Denver. If you check in on yelp you get a free bottle of hot Saki (dine in) and they deliver as well. Great wonderful spot! If ya live near Lowery come here!

Since I can't always take the long venture down to Samurai when I need a sushi fix, Kassai acts as an okay substitution. Located in a much more convenient proximity to my house, Kassai delivers in subsiding my sushi craving. Nothing too spectacular other than quality sushi that is priced well. Just as practically all sushi places offer dollar sushi during happy hour, so does Kassai, however, I can assure you that they are legit.

I have driven by Kassai Sushi so many times, I have always wondered about stopping. So, I went for lunch last week. Their lunch hour was not very busy. I sat at the sushi counter and watched a young sushi chef create my lunch. Their "lunch sushi & shashimi" was great. It came with a cup of miso soup and a traditional salad with a wonderful miso carrot sauce with ginger dressing. All of my sushi pieces were fresh tasting and melted in my mouth. I was glad that I ordered an extra Philadelphia roll along with my lunch, which was quite small compared to other sushi restaurants, because I would have been hungry. My waitress was very accommodating to my refills and water. The prices were great accordingly to the smaller portions and I was very happy with my stop. As I was finishing my lunch, another sushi chef arrived. The two behind the counter shared some story and laughed in Japanese. I thought that was a nice thing to see as most sushi restaurants have drab chefs with their heads down, no words exchanged and I always wonder if they enjoy what they were doing. Thanks Kassai for fulfilling my longing to stop.

This place is amazing! When you think dollar sushi you think hmmm that's not going to be good but let me tell you you are thinking wrong! You can go here for happy hour and get sushi for a $1 and its the freshest sushi I have had since leaving California! The pieces are large and fresh what else can you ask for! They also have super amazing rolls! I absolutely love to go here and I go at least every two weeks!

Moved here from San Diego 10 yrs ago Tried several places around town that were ok At bit pricey in my opinion Just happened to be in the neighborhood and stopped in for dinner, And I've been going there ever since. Usually with large groups of 10 to 15 people, everyone that goes is always surprised how great the sushi is ,especially the price about half the price of everywhere else in town . Food , drinks and tip around $30 a person. Just can't beat it. Went to one of Denver's trendy ,supposedly the best sushi in town ,last summer with friends, waited over an hour ,wall to wall people ,loud. Finally we were seated ,thought it was going to be an amazing sushi experience. Couldn't believe it ,wasn't even close to the sushi at Kassai Plus the bill was more that twice the price. I have no problem paying double if the meal is worth it.

Never crowded, this is one of my favorite sushi bars. Nice lunch specials, fresh, tasty sushi every time. Try it out.

Preface: My grandma is Japanese, which means I've eaten an estimated few tons of raw fish in my 29 years. Normally I'm nothing short of disappointed after a "cheap" sushi experience... However! Kassai is my neighborhood, every day sushi joint - as in, I would stop there every day on my way home from work if I could. It's a reliable, affordable suppliment between visits to some of the more notorious sush in town. The location is lack-luster, but the recent-ish renovations inside were a nice change. The fish has been fresh all of the 20+ times I've been in, and servers always seem to be cleaning when they don't have customers (2 thumbs up for clean menus! Nothing is more appetizing than someone else's meal smeared across the sushi list). I would recommend dining in, since take out/delivery sushi is never as good after a ride in the car, but I've never had to wait more than 5 min the few times I've gotten take-out, whether I call my order in ahead or walk-in. PS... do yourself a favor and get a order of gyoza while you wait for your sushi.
(4)Jessica J.
I really enjoy the food here. Although it looks like a hole in the wall from the outside, it is actually quite nice inside. The sushi is always fresh and very reasonably priced. It is good to eat there with a group and the service is always appropriately fast. They Deliver also, which is great!
(4)Michelle S.
I'd never been here before but found myself here twice this week for lunch with co-workers. Both times we were greeted by friendly staff and offered beverages promptly. I went with the three rolls for $10.50, which come with a large house salad and miso soup. Not the biggest pieces of fish that I've had, but fresh. Drinks are re-filled without having to ask and the staff are pleasant. Worth checking out this bargain place.

Kassai was my first taste of Denver sushi before I moved here so I have a soft spot for this crowded little joint. For over 3 years, Kassai has satisfied my (expensive) cravings for raw fish. The restaurant is small and the service is lackluster. Parking is hit and miss - don't expect to park by the restaurant on a weekend night. What keeps me coming back is that they are cheap cheap cheap cheap! $1 nigiri and the fabulous Tokyo roll are all I need to be happy. The age dashi tofu is passable but I've had better elsewhere. Their green tea is good as well as the veggie tempura. My friends and I love the place since we usually eat a lot of nigiri, the location is really convenient and we've never had a bad piece of fish. They do deliver but the last time I ordered from my old apartment in Stapleton, the guy refused to come up to my door and insisted that I come down to him... 4 floors down and on the wrong side of the complex. They had always delivered to my door. I left him waiting and called the restaurant to let them know he'd be coming back with the food and without my money. They offered me a $20 credit for the next time I was in their restaurant. The credit was honored and they were once again in my good graces. Kassai is no Sushi Den, Hapa or Japango but I like the place. It's similar to the cranky relative you want to hate but can't because they give you awesome presents.

This place is every bit as good (some items are even better) than the trendy Cherry Creek places, but at half the price and one-tenth the pretense. You'll have no problem getting a table. Plus, you won't have to listen to some dudebro trying shout over the other eighty dudebros trying to recap last night's episode of Entourage. They have a lot of items I've never seen anywhere else, so I guess I can describe them as innovative. Mind you, I'm by no means a sushi snob, but I know what I like to put in my mouth, and other than nipples and nicotine gum the sushi at Kassai is towards the top of that list. Besides, Sushi snobs always struck me as being like wine snobs: strip away all the affectation, then blindfold them, and their oh-so-refined palates probably couldn't tell the difference between the stuff from the Korean-owned liquor store and the private cellar of the Parisian sommelier. But, this old-timer rambles. Eat here. It's good.

I have been to Kassai on a few occassions, and have been pretty satisfied. My friend first recommended this restaurant to me, as it was near his house. Judging by the outside, I thought I was in for a terrible sushi experience. I'm pretty particular about my raw fish. The wait staff was less than friendly from the start, and outwardly unhappy that we walked in later at night (I think they close at 10, and we tend to go around 9:15/9:30). On my first visit, I didn't know about the happy hour $1/piece nigiri, so we ordered a bunch of sashimi, a few rolls, and a spicy kaibashira temaki for me. The sashimi was fabulous, and some of the fresher I've had in Denver. The rolls were 'okay', and the scallops were bland and the texture was off. I'd recommend skipping those here. Their sake is priced well, we drank the hakushika junmai gingo, which I have had at other restaurants for a few dollars more. In subsequent visits, we went for the $1 nigiri, and I was disappointed by the quality of the rice. It's a bit chewy for my taste, it doesn't fall apart like good nigiri rice should. I think next time I'd stick to the sashimi, even though it's pricier. I have never tried any of their cooked dishes, but the cooked menu looks unappealing to me. The most off-putting thing about this restaurant is the wait staff. Some of them don't speak enough English to clearly understand what you are trying to order, and they are never helpful or friendly. I think they fail to realize the extra money they could make in tips, simply by smiling and offering some customer service. If you're just looking for good, cheap sushi with no ambience or dining 'experience', Kassai is a good quick-bite joint.

Wow, I really feel most of the other reviews for Kassai are spot on. This is the go-to nearby place for me and that's really the only reason I continue to go. The location isn't great. If you come during a rush you will likely have to (or want to) park in the street nearby. The sushi is decently priced but the service is generally terrible. The sushi chefs themselves do a good job of getting your food out to you but the servers aren't very friendly, constantly mess up orders and slow things down. The sushi has always tasted fine but they have had problems off and on with it coming out to you warm. Cold sushi is a must. Overall not worth it unless you are nearby.
(3)Sasha S.
I'm downgrading Kassai based on my last visit on 10/8. I was extremely disappointed both in the quality of the food and the service which teetered between indifferent and rude. I got a to go order of teriyaki chicken and it was just lacking all around. I sat at the sushi bar and drank a beer while waiting for my food. About half way through my Sapporo, I discovered a foreign object in my beer. Not sure if it came from the glass or was in the beer bottle that was delivered to Kassai. Not even sure if it was animal, vegetable, or mineral. Just to give you an idea of how unfriendly the staff was, I decided not to mention the floater and just take my food and go. My spidey senses should have told me to just say fuck it -cancel my order, and leave. But...I was supposed to start a fast at sundown and didn't really have time for a plan B. While there were no UFOs in my food, it just wasn't very good. I'm having a hard time deciding how many stars here, but think I'll settle with two (vs. one) because it is a locally owned business and I've had better experiences in the past. Even though it is bike distance close to my house, I don't predict I'll ever spend money here again.

Kassai is a welcome surprise to the Quebec/7th area. It's kind of like finding a $10 bill in the bus station. You would never expect it, but it makes you happy. I have always had a good experience with the service, but we normally go out for sushi on a weekday and kind of after work (7:00PM). Last time we had a cooked Yellow Tail collar+ cold unfiltered sake, it was awesome. I recommend it as an easy place to get sushi - definitely no pretense. good prices and good food. It does not compare with other cities like San Francisco or Vancouver, but hey this is Denver which is at least 1,000 miles from the nearest ocean. What do you expect? I would not recommend this as a place to go on a date where you might want to impress your girl with your broad knowledge of eating raw fish. For that I would choose Domo (or if you want to come off as a real snob, Sushi Den). But if you want to and chillax and get good sushi for a good price, Kassai is the place to go.
(4)Aileen D.
WTF? Service has gone downhill exponentially. The last 3 times I've been here have left a sour taste in my mouth. I'm truly not a picky eater but I know what I like and I try to be very careful and specific about what I order. How can you screw up my order when I am pointing at it on the menu for you? AAAAARGGHHH! Kassai will probably be my last resort if I'm craving sushi and drive the extra distance to find decent sushi and consistent service.
(2)Sherri K.
Kassai is walking distance from my house, so...as sushi, drinks and happy hour often go hand in hand when I think about what I want to do on a friday nght - walking distance is strictly a BONUS! There are alot of good things about this restaurant, but more average things than good. The atmoshpere is dry. The sushi chefs and the waitstaff are young and seem to be pre-occupied with whereever they need to be immediately following their shift. The waitress is biding time to get to the next after hours and I get the feeling someone makes her work there - it's not her preferred choice. The elders that wander around supervising don't speak to anyone and the overall environment reeks of mandatory service value. The decor is interesting. There are TV's mounted above the tabletops to satisfy your sports addiction, and there is a typical sushi bar where you can watch the chefs go at their art with speed. The best thing about the decor is the red chairs. They have the most unique red leather chairs which look like typical cheap pickup joint wait room chairs from the front, but from the back they are laced like a boustier from bottom to top. They are trendy and fun and would really make a different room stunning. That said, the food is fresh and good...and cheap. If there were any personality behind the food, it would be amazing, but it's walking distance so I'll always go back.
(3)Michael H.
I ate here with 4 friends tonight and we were hungry. We ordered lots of sushi and the bill averaged $27/person including a beer, lots of food, and tip. So the price is very reasonable. There is $1/piece sushi happy hour which only lasts from 4:30-10PM every day! Downsides: small dining area, crowded tables, strip mall location, small pieces of fish. No comparison to the ambiance of a Sushi Den, Japon, or even John Holly's. Quality of the food was decent but not such that I would drive across town to get more. Still, it is an A-OK deal for the price asked.
(3)Keifer H.
Really great and friendly. Lunch 3 roll special is probably Denver's best sushi deal!
(4)Misha R.
Kassai is cute, affordable and pretty reasonable quality sushi too. It's in a crappy little strip mall (Yucky, avert your eye's.) Once you're in you'll find a modern atmosphere. They are not shy about color, yea, and the art work isn't too bad either. The food is very good for the price. They usually aren't crowded and the orders come up quickly. The staff is a quiet bunch but they do understand English very well. It's a tiny place so don't take a large party, just one or two people is perfect. Quick, close to home, and affordable! They own the place next door too (hot Asian food) so if your table mates don't like sushi ask to see the "other" menu and they'll bring you something from next door. (It'll be our little secret.)
(4)Laura E.
Wish I could make this 4 1/2...I'm a writer for my school paper and pitched this as a food review after catching wind of it, but the editors wrinkled their nose. "Eww...$1 sushi??" Nonplussed, I went anyway and have to say, it's their loss. The fish was totally fresh- the white tuna especially- and while the actual rolls weren't the finest or most original, they were satisfying and everything I'd expect from a decent sushi place. And how the devil can you go wrong with 2 for 1 beers every day? The service the first time I went with a group was unusually slow, but went again with just my boyfriend and it was fine for the most part. Save room for fried green tea ice cream if you can manage (unfortunately, it's easy to spend more money than you intend to, but that's just the nature of sushi consumption!)
(4)Charlene S.
We've been going there since 2003 and always had the best, freshest sushi, good service, and inexpensive meals. Last night we were there and there was a big staff turnover, the miso was a bit watered down, the sushi pieces were a bit smaller and the hot sake was not as good as before. Not sure if it was just an off night or what. I'm still going to eat there, but maybe not as frequently as I'm used to. I'll see how it is next time.
(4)Katherine W.
Budget sushi makes me a bit leery: Dollar sush (happy hour)?? Turns out it is fantastic. Not Sushi Den fabulous, but this is a dinner I can afford without mooching off of a rich dude. The octopus is just for show, though: don't bother.
(4)Eddy C.
When I think of Denver, I think of a lot of great things but good food is not one of the. Likewise, when I think of good sushi, Denver would not likely crack my top 20 cities in the US where I would expect to find good sushi. However, after eating dinner at Kassai, I just might change my opinion on both subjects. My friend who lives in Denver suggetsed we go to Kassai for their "happy hour special". Apparently in Denver, happy hour means "middle of the afternoon until closing". Kassai's happy hour (daily from 4:30 pm to 10:00 pm) was fantastic: $1 negiri. I promptly loaded up on 10 pieces, along with a couple different maki's (spider roll = terrific, spicy scallop = good heat). The fish was fresh and the portions were hefty. But the cost (or lackthereof, rather) was perhaps the best part. I would've easily paid at least four times more for the exact same meal had I eaten it in Chicago. There's definitely something to be said about not having to plop down $50 every time I want to have sushi for dinner.
(4)Daniel R.
I can't have a party night so I decide that going to a sushi place is the most calm thing I should do. I walk into the restaurant and I should have remembered one thing: dinner is at 6. This place was packed. There was not one table or booth left. The host/waitress was so nervous that she didn't even realize when two table became available. Finally sitting down I got a chance to notice a few things. The place although packed should have been under total control. With about 20-25 tables that can seat four people, on average, six waitresses can easily handle this. I also noticed, and then also regretted, that sitting in the corner is the easiest way to be ignored. Our table and two others were on the opposite side of the main room where the majority of the tables are located. Various times, I had to call the waitress over just to begin with my water and eda mami appetizer. Aside from this hassle the food was great. After an hour, the place took a shift in energy, as more people left. I therefore was able to finally get refills on my water and green tea. The restaurant I believe is fine, I just had the misfortune of being at the wrong place at the wrong time.
(3)Matt S.
I'm not a sushi snob, but I liked my fish here. Like everyone says, service seems like it's not a top priority here. I would never go out of my way to get to Kassai, but for the price, it's a good quick sushi fix if you live close by.
(3)Thomas S.
Kassai Sushi is the closest sushi joint to my house...so yeah, I'm a fan. But they definitely do a nice job of dishing decent quality sushi in cute, friendly atmosphere. Oh yeah, their prices are quite fabulous as well.
(4)L B.
I have to say for an inexpensive and casual sushi dinner - this place fits the bill. No its not the trendy atmoshere of Sushi Den or Japon but I would say the freshness of the fish easily rivals the best in town (and DEFINATELY beats Japon -yuck had bad experience there). Dont be scared when you see the outside - looks like a hole in the wall but it is really cute inside!
