Jay's Patio Cafe is my favorite place to go for lunch. It's kind of a diamond in the rough here in the highlands compared to the big name lunch spots like Amatos and Uber Eats. I tried them all and I ended up going to Jay's every time now. I like how they support local artists work there and it's a mom and pop business. Sure the environment isn't super fancy but they have a nice patio and the food speaks for itself for a reasonable price. I highly suggest the Habanero Turkey Panini. It's so good!

Jay's is one of my favorite sandwich places to go in the neighborhood. They have a good variety of sandwiches to pick from and all are made on the spot by Jay. The girl taking orders is very friendly. Not to mention that they have homemade cookies- so good. It is such a nice place to have lunch in the summer, especially on their beautiful outdoor patio. Paninis are my personal fav. Recommend this place if you are in the neighborhood and hungry.

Everyone that works here is always very friendly, and serve very fast! Love the sandwiches (my fav is the Craisin Turkey on Rye) and they always have good soup of the day, no matter what it is! Good place to get Girl Scout Cookies during cookie season. Great place! Would definitely recommend.

I've been to Jay's many times as I work nearby and am disappointed more times than not. The tuna fish on wheat is by far the best thing I've tried and seems to be made fresh. Many other sandwiches I've tried have been much less consistent and seem to be made with sub par ingredients. The point is that it's not very unique and you walk away spending $15 if you add chips and a drink--too $ for what you are getting. I've tried several other wraps or flatbread options and they consistently fall flat. It comes across as if the ingredients aren't top quality and not made fresh. Sorry, but there are better options.

I love Jay's! It is the go-to spot in the neighborhood for me and for my co-workers. We usually order box lunches for our meeting with clients. The food is always good and seems to be made fresh on the spot. Everyone that works there is really friendly, I love stopping by! Thanks Jay!

Went in for a quick coffee to go, but only one guy working and he had to make food for a couple of dudes before he could even recognize my prescence. I went in looking for a place to kill some time on my computer waiting for a meeting down the street but was really turned off by the complete lack of vibe, outlets, friendliness, and coffee. After waiting 10 minutes I was eventually made an americano that tasted like 7-eleven made it. I have not tried the food and likely never will. I am amazed this place is open in a neighborhood with such artisanal locales as masterpiece deli and forest room 5.

Jay's is really close to my office and makes it a wonderful and affordable mid-day stop for iced coffee and salads. This was one of the first places I ate in Denver when I was looking for a job. The tuna salad was so yummy. Everything that I wanted, low-fat protein with tasty fixin's. I get it all the time! Their iced coffee was also wonderful and refreshing. They have soymilk and the extra charge for it was a lot lower than I can recall at other places. Really cute spot!

This is nothing special at all. I don't even think they serve naturally raised meats, let alone anything particularly unusual, fresh or healthful. I've been here a couple of times for lunch at the suggestion of friends, but each time, I have been totally underwhelmed. Anyway, the owner apparently doesn't like thin people, (I read Bill Husted's column this morning), so I probably won't be back. It explains the crappy service I had there, though!

This place is all about the stuff between the bread. Don't expect crusty bakery bread, because you'll be disappointed. Although, they didn't have the "artisan" bread when I was there, so take what I say with a grain of salt. The (marble) rye bread is pretty good. The stuff in the sandwiches is great though, so it's worth it to go here if you're looking for a decently-sized sandwich at a good price.

Shockingly bad experience. My husband and I stopped in for a quick and light lunch on the weekend. There were absolutely no patrons there (a fact I would soon realize why), and we figured we would be in and out. The gentleman behind the bar taking our order was despondent, slow as molasses and I think he was as high as a kite. I love fresh mozzarella and so I ordered the Caprese salad. The zombie perked up long enough to rudely correct my pronunciation of the dish "You mean you want the "Ka-PRAY-zay salad." Whatever. Now this salad was astoundingly pricey at $9.50, so I assumed it would be a good sized portion with only the freshest mozzarella and basil, a whole sliced tomato and an tangy balsamic reduction - like it was stated in the description on the menu. My husband ordered a sandwich, and WITHOUT ANY DRINKS the bill was 20 bucks. We then proceeded to wait A HALF AN HOUR for my Ka-PRAY-zay and for my husband's sandwich to come out. Remember, we were the only souls in the place. Finally, just before I was going to check and see what the hell was taking so long, our food came out. The living-dead waiter placed the styrofoam plate in front of me and I stared at it. On the plate was three paper thin slices of anemic tomatoes, topped with two shriveled slices of... I looked closer... Kraft American cheese lunch singles? NO mozzarella. Nor was there a trace of basil and no balsamic reduction. I looked right up at Zombie-Jerk and said " ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" I had never felt literally insulted by what was served to me, but I felt like crying. He grunted something incoherent. I said "Well, where is the mozzarella for my Ka-PRAY-zay salad?" To which he replied, "We ran out." I thought about getting a refund or tossing the salad into his zombie face, or both, but I just told him to do something with it, make it into a salad or something. I paid ten bucks for this. He took it and added shredded lettuce. Even my husband who is loathe to ever complain out loud at a restaurant couldn't hide his annoyance. I so wish I had had my phone so I could have taken a photo to add with this review. It truly was piteous. I really want to like Jays but am constantly let down by this place. I work less than a block away and have given Jays a fair shot over the past two years. Didn't have a lot of time today so I stopped by wanting a simple turkey sandwich. Asked for wheat bread, got flat bread. Asked for no cheese, got an over load of cheddar. The lettuce they put on the sandwich was disgusting. Took a few bites and just threw it away. Not worth your time, my experience is not an isolated incident. It just finally put me over the top. DO NOT GO HERE, walk a block further and go to Masterpiece Deli. They actually know how to make sandwiches there and take your order correctly.

Jay is a world class sandwich maker and a step into Jay's will allow you to try any of his signature paninis and sandwiches. I love the friendly staff, super fresh selections, and honest food. Jay just opened a new restaurant down the road off Little Raven.. and I have yet to check it out! This is one of the best sandwich shops in town, and not stupid expensive like the competition in the neighborhood.

I've got a soft spot for fried egg sandwiches. This soft spot though, is a double-edged sword, leading me cut down by a bevy of stomach aches and (more often than not) a perturbed palate. It's a fried egg sandwich, people, not rocket science; however, that being said... ... I ventured out to Jay's Patio Cafe this morning for a fried egg sandwich with jack cheese, bacon and green chile served on a croissant. Yes, a croissant (another option is ciabatta). My tummy has had nothing but TONS of good things to say about it. Well, it WOULD have tons of good things to say about it, were it not so sated in a blissful and benevolent silence. Wait, am i fetishizing this breakfast sandwich? Maybe, but for valid reasons... One of those reasons is Jay's ability to offer quality ingredients paired with sandwich engineering that teeters awfully close to rocket science. Another reason: the comely counter help who made my sandwich with a smile brighter than CO's summer sun, even at 8AM. I usually shun cheeriness at that hour--what, pre-coffee and breakfast and all--but, with the combination of the perfect sandwich and the impeccable customer service, I warmly welcomed it. Thank you, Jay's patio cafe for restoring my faith in fried egg sandwiches. Knowing you know the subtleties in egg sandwich science makes me (and my tummy) eternally grateful. We'll surely be back.

I have lived less than a block away from Jays for about a year but have never tried it until today.. It was more than disappointing. I called ahead and ordered a "Hot Gorgonzola Panini" and a cup of their soup of the day. When I arrived I noticed the menu at the shop was not the same as the menu online and that prices were higher than the site. I paid, they gave me a bag with my food, and I returned home. Much to my disappointment not only was my "hot gorgonzola panini" freezing cold (literally not even luke warm) but there was no soup in the bag. Even worse, I don't know if they charged me for it because they didn't give me (or even ask if I wanted) a receipt. If you want a good sandwich in this area go to masterpiece delicatessen. Prices are about the same and the quality of food and service is 10x better.

I enjoy Jay's for a quick lunch since I work just around the corner. I am always pleased with my food, usually a habenero turkey or wash park turkey panini or wrap. I think the portions are hearty (good amount of meat and garnish in the sandwich), although prices are not bottom of the barrel, the value is pretty good. I would suggest looking at their lunch box menu (it is seperate, not on the main menu) because you get a sandwich (or wrap or salad) with a cookie and side (chips), for $9.25. That is pretty good if you are very hungry and can eat all of that, though you'll still have to splurge extra on a drink if you like that kind of thing... I think the people who work there are just your average friendly regular people, not out of this world but not bad either, I can't complain. I also enjoy their tuna salad, which has lots of extra veggies in it. The only suggestion I could make about their food is I would like my panini to be grilled a bit longer so the cheese is slightly melted and not still cold. A minor detail in my mind for a simple neighborhood sandwich.

This place fits like a glove. Located on the border of the Highlands, this place is a welcome part of the yuppiness spreading around it. It is a small establishment with big goals...to make your tummy happy. Their sandwiches are yummy, especially their paninis. I don't have a favorite yet because I get different sandwiches each time I get food there. The staff is friendly and they definitely enjoy working there, which they make apparent. I like getting their fresh made chocolate chip cookies when I get my chai. I only wished they opened before 8am, as my job doesn't allow me the luxury to take a break that early. jayspatiocafe.com

These folks can do the impossible: Make a turkey sandwich that I actually like. Their red ancho is tasty -- good bread and fixin's. Haven't been to Jay's in awhile (it's only open breakfast & lunch Mon-Fri). Still friendly, with good lunch stuff. I wish they'd spend just a little dough on furniture upgrades... at least by replacing the wrought iron table/chairs indoors.

i agree with kelly, the tuscan veggie is super satisfying. it has everything that you'd want, and nothing your don't. they are all really nice here, and super fast, which is always a bonus. they also have great soups, which i'm sure i'll be taking more advantage of now that the cold weather is a-comin. all in all, super great lunch spot, but i deduct a star for their drink selection, as i'm one of those hippy types who likes kombucha and real juice, and all they have is the standard soft-drink/flavored water stuff. also, they close at 2pm, which sucks if you like to eat after 2.

I work about a mile from Jay's and have been eating there once a week for about 2 years now. Tuscan Veggie on Focacia w/ Boulder chips and a Lemonade....so good. Jay is a really nice guy and has a good crew working for him. There is a nice shady patio as well.
