Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

If they are busy the food suffers. Pick an off peak time.

We were driving by here in search of a place that serves breakfast after 2pm and decided to flip a U-turn and check it out. To our surprise we were amazed by how good everything tasted. To begin, the chips and salsa were homemade and delicious. The salsa had a kick to it, but wasn't too hot that you couldn't eat it. Then, my husband and I both ordered smoothered burritos with the hot green chile and we filled up before we were halfway done but we just kept eating because it was that good. It's just like Grandma's cooking. I will never go somewhere else for authentic Mexican food. To top it off we ended up paying only $25 for two entrées with two extra sides and two drinks. We will keep coming back! My compliments to the chef. Thank you, The Gonzales family

Outstanding nachos, average everything else. Date of Visit: 1/5/15 Javier's is a relative hole-in-the-wall type of place, but does have some promising items on the menu. Our group ordered the nachos, chicken burrito platter, chicken tenders, and a combo plate. The chicken tenders were straight out of a bag (microwave-style), but we had warned our friend that getting that at a Mexican restaurant made little sense. That said, it was still really poor product. The burrito and combo platters were just average, both very heavy on cheese and sauce but light on flavor. The lone star of the meal was the nachos, which were some of the better ones I've had to date. That, and the service, albeit a little slow, was very good. Overall, Javier's would not come to mind when giving recommendations, but there are definitely worse places to end up.

I would skip it.not much flavor.hot and mild chili exactly the same.not much flavor in the burritos.things pretty sloppy. We didn't get any chips.the table next to us did. Waiter was friendly.
(3)Victor C.
I grab breakfast here every time I come to town. Huevos Rancheros or the breakfast burrito with (either hot or mild) chili is great. It's a straight-up diner atmosphere. So, if you're looking for trendy, crunchy, granola, gluten-free, paleo-whatever cuisine go to 32nd/Lowell.
(4)Aimee L.
Good diner food...really just good food. Everything was really good. We enjoyed the pancakes the very most!!!! Also they have veggie green chili and it was tasty...don't worry their main green chili has pork in it. Stop by if you are in the neighborhood.
(4)Alex A.
This place is definitely a shot out of a Pulp Fiction scene. My buddy and I immediately felt like Vincent Vega and Jules Winfield after sitting down. We were full of anticipation waiting for someone to pull a gun on us and ask for our wallet. This place has a gigantic menu and you'll have difficulty making decisions on what to eat. The food is good and inexpensive.

This is one of my favorite breakfast places in the Highlands the food is always good and fresh. service is very friendly sometimes slow but they are very nice either way i enjoy their patio a nice day. I do recommend this place for anybody looking for good breakfast

We were originally heading to DJ's across the street but noticed the wait was like 30 minutes, and that this place was not that busy. The yelp reviews looked good so we gave it at go.....and we were happy we did. In, served, ate, left. Bam. The food was great, service fast and to the point. Portions are pretty reasonable. Prices are great. As we left, we noticed other people just getting seated at DJ's. We are from out of town and were noticing that a lot of the "Yelp" crowd seem to hover around these eateries that develop rock star legend on Yelp. I am part of that crowd, so no hard feelings. My point being is that there are some great places nearly a stone's throw away in this case, that could easily have that many Yelp ratings if someone just took a second to go try it out. I guess time will tell. Regardless, this place was a great place for breakfast, without the lines and cult following associated with some of the other yelp places.....and we kind if liked that.

I love Javier's. I used to come here in my single days and sit at the breakfast bar. I love their green chili but I still can't get Javier to share the recipe. They have good food, friendly service and a great patio. I would give 5 stars if patio was non smoking. No bueno! They now have theme nights with free margs, romance and mariachis! Enjoy!
(4)Kristin M.
We love the food, ambience and prices. What sets this place apart (for us) is how good they are with kids. Toys, fountain to play in and amazing staff make meals with small children great.
(5)Kellie A.
We ate breakfast on the patio this morning. The food was great, the staff was awesome and it's very affordable. Also love that it's dog friendly. We will definitely be back.
(5)Amy C.
Great atmosphere, service, food, bang for your buck. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. Plan on going back for sure!
(5)Jessica C.
If there was a NO star that's what this nasty place would get not only did I get horrible service there I got very sick for days I had a breakfast burrito everything just seem to taste very old but I didn't want to complain so I ate it bad idea I got food poisoning I called the owner to let her know about it she was very rude "or so this lady claimed to be the owner" I will never return to this place again!!! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone!!
(1)Samantha R.
Amazing food with quick service! The whole staff was very friendly and helpful and the food was amazing! I'll definitely be back soon.
(5)Jordon B.
I was in here a couple days ago I found a cockroach this place has gone down hill I will never be back here again so if your down with eating bugs come to this place!!!!

If you are expecting a Mexican restaurant, you are only partly right. This is definitely a diner, but with a "Mexican" flair. By diner, I mean that their main focus is breakfast. Sure, as with any other diner, you can also get lunch and dinner, but the focus is on breakfast-type dishes, especially those that include eggs. I found the restaurant to be respectably clean, and organized. I liked that they had a number of vegetarian options on the menu, but be advised that they do believe vegetarian only means "no meat." Many of their "vegetarian" dishes include eggs, are made with eggs, or just have the meat removed. For example, I'm fairly certain their "vegetarian" green chile is just their pork green chile with the pork removed. Also, I'm pretty sure there is lard in those beans, and chicken broth in that rice. So, in a sense, it is vegetarian, but they do stretch it a bit, and there isn't much "vegan" on the menu at all. The restaurant, itself, is a lot bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside. They also have a patio. You will certainly be able to find a place to sit. The problem may be more with finding a place to park. There is not much of a parking lot - maybe eight spaces? - unless you park next door at the bowling alley, and I don't know if that is allowed. There are places along the street to park if you want to do that, but, if there is more parking that we saw, we didn't see it. The place was well-staffed in the late afternoon, and everyone was nice and attentive. I like the decorations about the place. They have the Beatles on the wall, the Monkees, some relatives, Lucy Ball, and others. It's an interesting place to dine; kind of like a hybrid of a 70's diner, and a Mexican restaurant. I like it.
(4)Brittani V.
We came here Thanksgiving morning. Place was clean, staff was friendly, the food was solid. I had the breakfast burrito. The green chili was great. We will be back!
(4)Samantha S.
Pretty stinkin good :) I like that they serve Breakfast all day, that benefited when one of us wanted lunch and the other breakfast. I see lots of reviews on how great the breakfast was, and my friend can vouch for that! Agreed on the green chili.. yummmy!!! We sat outside, it was Sunday afternoon, around 1. Nice outdoor patio, a bit busy, but that's ok, there wasn't a long wait for food. The servers seemed to be trying to hard, or maybe the owner, as multiple people handled the same tables... maybe trying to assure coverage of all their customers... I had a bacon cheeseburger and fries.... and absolutely loved my burger!! Love the area, great spot to meet up some friends before heading downtown... they are only open until 8, except Sundays where it looks like they close at 3. Food is prepped right out in front ( cool) , and you pay at the register up front as well!!
(4)Nicole G.
Loved this spot. A friend took me there while I was visiting Denver. SOme of the best huevos rancheros I have ever had. The burrito was also amazing.
(5)Justyna B.
MMMMMMMMMMMMMM Chile Relleno Breakfast Plate. Most delicious breakfast I've ever had. They also offer vegetarian green chilli which I swear is better than the meat one. I've never had anything less than an amazing meal here. One time when we came in they were really busy so to compensate for it they gave us a huge plate of cheesy potatoes. We MAAAAYbe waited for 10 minutes. Love this place.

OMG. What happened here? 4 stars people, really? How much is he paying you? We already established that restaurant.com only offers their lame worthless certificates to struggling awful tasting restaurants, there. Got that out of the way. Next, this place. Diner it is, Mexican, not sure. The cook is. The food....not sure what it is. The cook is NOT a chef, not classically trained. That is obvious. I ordered the fajitas. the steak pieces were small, and tasteless. The rest is standard. NO seasoning. Apparently he's heard of cumin because he put it in the green chili (nooooooo) and the rice (nooooooo). No salt, no pepper. UGH. I really just wanted to walk out. My husband ordered the pork chops. Way over cooked (like rubber tire). Mashed potatoes...well at least they are not from a box. But, still no flavor, no spices. No spice at all. I asked for the green chili and well I already mentioned cumin in it. gross. Pancho Villa would surely turn over in his grave. The bathroom looked like yellow balls blew up on the bright red walls (yup, lovely-not!). UGH! Never again. 4-5 stars, maybe for breakfast, but I live in Aurora. Too many awesome yummy places to eat breakfast. Anywhoo I did like the service. That young lady is top notch. The young man was cleaning everything, which I like. I know that the items on the table are clean!! Otherwise, it's a no go. We went to Sloans Bar and grill to get the taste of their failure out of our mouths. Sooooo much better. Which we had gone there instead. Oh, well. No more restaurants recommended by restaurant.com . YUCK!

Wow! What a breakfast burrito. Not even a fan of them but when they are $2.99 why not. Unreal amazing awesome Green chile and soooo tasty. My buddy got their bacon and it was amazing too. Will def come back!! Try it out
(5)Nichole V.
This place is awesome! I had the mexican omelet and it was not only a very good portion with a side of potatoes for 8.49 but the Green Chile was amazingly good! My husband had the cheeseburger with onion rings and he said that was really good too! The staff was friendly and attentive and the kitchen was clean! Definitely will be going back. ..
(5)Manny C.
Had breakfast at Javi's and ordered Huevos Rancheros, 7.95. I like their fried potatos ... not greasy... I'll come back again...
(4)Emily B.
Went to visit my sister in Denver. After scouting around for a breakfast place, we found Javier's. Not only were the people very friendly and helpful, the food was divine! Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for tasty southwestern style breakfast.
(4)Jason W.
Javier's is the perfect diner for this location..Traditional breakfast diner food with a breakfast burrito or two done well. It is Denver, you've got to have a breakfast burrito, right? Sure you can roam up the street and wait 30-45 mins for a seat to find that benedict or that plate of perfectly stuffed french toast, but Javier's Diner is a great alternative
(4)Patricia L.
Had a delicious comfort-food lunch here - chicken burger with fries & rings. Generous portion, attentive waitress, & fair price. Definitely my new regular joint.
(4)Mo C.
Just a great little greasy-spoon in the neighborhood. I have had some great breakfast grub here at Javier & C's. The best breakfast by far, though, is the Chile Relleno plate. It sounds odd, but it's a Chile Relleno smothered in green chile with eggs and potatoes and beans and sour cream. Delicious! They make some pretty great pancakes as well, but trust me on the Chille Relleno Breakfast, yum! I love a breakfast place with a patio! So does everyone else. Sunday late-morning, this place is PACKED. So, be prepared to wait a while, or head in on a Saturday morning when they are less busy. This place could use a liquor license. A nice, big, bloody-mary or cold corona would pair perfectly with the many mexican breakfast dishes on their menu. But, other than that, no complaints. They even have off street parking here! And, the prices are great. Two people would have a really difficult time spending $20 on a meal here. Just a great spot.
(4)Karen M.
We were sat and greeted immediatly. Kind and fast service. My boyfriend and I both got breakfast skillets, very reasonable price and tasted great. Green chili was pretty good. We will have to go back and try their lunch items, large food selection. Perfect diner atmosphere, nothing fancy.
(5)Dave H.
Ask for the hand towels!! Add onion and avocado, $3.50. Are kidding me? Made fresh by the man himself, just don't order coffee.
(5)Bruce W.
I committed some food murder here. Juevos Rancheros laced with green chili. Side o' pancakes. Damn. Good.
(4)Denay P.
This place must be under new management because it is nothing like what earlier reviews describe. The menu is significantly different and much smaller than pictures posted. I was unimpressed with the options. But that wasn't what made this experience so bad. The service was terrible! We asked twice for a blue margarita (which is on the menu) and were brought a regular (lime) one. When we said that we had ordered blue, 2 other people besides our initial server had to come over to confirm what we ordered. After we got our correct drink, it took an insanely long time to be able to place our food order. We had to flag down our server, and when we told her we wanted to order, she just walked away from us. Eventually a different server came over to take our order. When the food came out, my chile rellenos were fine, but not anything special. However, my boyfriend had ordered cheese enchiladas and was brought chicken. Since we can't eat meat, that was a problem. The server was apologetic and did bring him new food, but it was especially frustrating since it was the second of three items we ordered that were wrong. When he did get the cheese enchiladas, they were very disappointing. Rather than being filled with hearty, white cheese, which is what we're used to and what my chile rellenos were filled with, they just had shredded cheddar cheese inside. And again, service was terrible trying to get our check. After waiting quite a long time for the check (at this point, it was closing time), we finally just went up to the bar and asked to pay. With lackluster food (although not the very worst I've had in Denver) and horrible service, there is no chance we'll be back.
(1)Doug Y.
It's still pretty good but it's just not the same since Javier has left the building. Some of the corazon has left the place and I can taste it in the food. It is cool that they're open for dinner now too though. Buy the coupon on restaurant dot com before heading here and save a little bit o' dough. siete.
(4)Damon D.
The Mexican skillet is a standout for sure...deliciously spicy. But the pancakes are the best in town, served hot off the griddle with warm syrup. Yum. All the waitstaff are very friendly!!
(5)Nicole W.
Super friendly staff, quick service, excellent food! Been meaning to try this place since it made the paper a couple years ago - talking about local businesses changing tactics to stay afloat in these hard economic times! I stayed away for a while just so as to not bump into the crowds produced from the article and then stopped going out for breakfast for a while! So glad we picked but up the habit and we made it over here! I love this place! Super friendly when you walk in, coffee is tasty (i know others have complained, but really, it's just regular old coffee and it's good) I went with the huevos rancheros my first time and haven't changed yet! The green chili has a great kick and taste amazing on the eggs. Hashbrowns, refried beans... mmmm! I think about this place all week long waiting for sunday to arrive so we can go again! Parking is tight, but we have managed to get a spot whenever we go! See you there on sunday!
(4)Ciara T.
I went here for breakfast (at lunch time) over the weekend and I'm still thinking about that Mexican Skillet.... It was amazing!!! I wanted to cry when I found my leftovers in the car!
(5)Kathy G.
The bf and I finally tried this place out a few months ago after driving by it so many times to and from the gym. This place has become our go to breakfast place is we wanted something good, fast and decent price. I've never had a bad meal and the service is always great! Two thumbs up!
(4)Teresa C.
Awesome food and great service. Everyone seem to know each other and it was a relaxed feel. I had a big breakfast plate that was great and I took home to my son a big burrito. I will be back!!!
(5)john W.
Big Ass Breakfast Burritos. Really that's it. :) I don't know if anything else they serve is good, though I suspect it all is. I've never branched out. the burrito is redonklulous (I assume that's how you spell that). This is a geat example of local business being awesome. Go give their love.
(5)Brad H.
Cheap and delicious. The 2.99 hand burrito is plenty big and really good even though it's not on the menu.
(5)K D.
This is my new favorite place. It's not trendy. It's just good. The service is friendly and efficient. The coffee is good. My favorite thing is the chili relleno breakfast plate. OMG yum!
(5)Jarred F.
I have to say, this place rocks and I didn't expect it. Clean, friendly, tasty little 'Mexican' greasy spoon. Fresh coffee, solid breakfasts, and just all around great food. I agree, this is a nice little local business that keeps it real. Try the gyro omelette, just done right! Bacon cooked proper, great chorizo... I'm beginning to drool just thinking about it!
(5)Robin M.
After a long absence, I decided I was due for a breakfast out. I got three breakfasts for the price of one! I managed to down the bacon, eggs, and potatoes but packed the three perfectly browned pancakes to go along with syrup and butter. Let me tell you, those pancakes are fantastic. When microwaved, they are light and springy in texture even when drenched in syrup. I'm looking forward to the other half tomorrow. All this for $4.99 because it was the day's special. As a big bonus, great service from friendly staff.
(5)Tiffany W.
I gotta give credit to any place that offers vegetarian green chili, but not only that -- vegetarian green chili that is kick-azz. Delicious. The Dude and I chose this place for Sunday brunch. Little did I know he agreed to this suggestion (out of about four) because it was close to a thing he was doing a thing at (don't ask) but hey. Worked out for me. They have nopales! I went back and forth over the menu... burrito? French toast combo? Eggs and potatoes and pancakes? With side of green chili? So many choices! Finally I decided on the Mexican skillet, no chorizo and sub vegetarian green chili. So, as it were, a mish-mash of homefries, scramby eggs, cheese, jalapenos, green peppers, onions, and nopales (cactus!). With a side of wheat toast and vegetarian green chili. Though requesting the vegetarian chili when ordering, when the server asked, "hot or mild?" I had a feeling I was in for some pork (calm down, pervs). And indeed, when they brought our food I spooned out a mysterious chunk and had The Dude render his opinion. "It's definitely meaty." Damn. So I had to sit there and resist wolfing down my scramble/skillet/whatever until the server came back so I could swap it. She claims she put the order in the right way, which whatever... mistakes happen. Just get me some veggie green chili pleeeease. And she did. And it was outstanding. Their coffee sucks (like a lot), and they brought my toast out like five minutes before anything else (kind of weird), but things even out. The Dude's egg-bacon-potatoes-and-pancakes breakfast was well received. I meant to snag a bite of pancake but alas was too busy with my own delicious delights. I think they'd be a dandy lunch place; they have several vegetarian options and if nothing else, Mexican dishes aplenty for veg-heads and carnivores alike. They also have some Greek-inspired items, and sandwiches/burgers. It's not as close as some other breakfast places to our place, but the drive is short enough, and the green chili tasty enough, that I reckon we'll be back.
(4)Tiffany N.
This place makes the perfect breakfast burrito for me. That's because I am a simple person when it comes to this morning creation. I want a tortilla stuffed with eggs, a breakfast meat, potatoes and occasionally avocado. I want the green chili to be super tasty and on the side. Javier & C's serves this up for me just the way I like it. And they do it in a fast and friendly manner. They also make a mean pancake. I may not come over this way every weekend for breakfast because there are a couple places closer to home that I prefer, but this place is big on character and definitely warrants repeat patronage.
(3)Scott S.
Not as impressed as everyone else is here. I think I got a lemon dish, it was a huge omlet, but for some reason I just didn't like their green chili sauce... maybe I was just hungover. Anyway I've been other times and liked the other food... just sayin, watch the green chili. ha.
(3)Dave B.
A-OK 25JUL2011 Our second visit was lunch. We split Ernie's Nachos. Very tasty. Quite different from other nachos. These are messy and loaded with meat (burger) and pork green chile. No beans. I really like them. Friendly and competent service. 17JUL2011 Huevos Rancheros that hit the spot. Definitely a diner. I enjoyed my first visit and will return.
(3)Tracie B.
The staff are very friendly and easy-going. I barely made a dent on the "combo" plate which included a tamale, cheese enchilada and chili rellano. The green chili is flavorful but needs more spice. My only complaint was that my meal was not hot (as in caliente). I didn't send it back to be rewarmed but I should have. Very pleasant atmosphere and very nice patio out front. The booth cushions are warn however and need to be replaced.
(3)Kathleen A.
Awesomely good greasy spoon in the hood. I like this place because of the variety- I wanted Mexican and Matt wanted traditional breakfast. I was fiending for a breakfast burrito but quickly changed my mind when I saw huevos rancheros on the menu. I got that with the green chile (hot). The green chile wasn't hot at all, but I still loved the flavor and their weren't any pork chunks. Yay! Now, the huevos...the tortilla was cooked almost deep fried. I don't really like this very much, but the dish itself was still very good thanks to the green chile and delicious hash browns on the side. My breakfast was under $7. I helped Matt eat his bacon and pancakes. Yummy pancakes..fluffy and light. This is a great cure all for hangovers and everyone can get whatever they want here. And..CHEAP. Staff is A+++.
(4)Larren M.
The wife took me here the other weekend for a mid morning breakfast/lunch. As I've stated in other reviews if it's close to lunch, I'll always go for that. The place was reasonably busy when we arrived. We only had to wait a few minutes while the waitress cleared us a booth. It was nice to have a choice, because I'll always opt for a booth over a table. The menu is your pretty standard diner food. There are a few specialty items on it though. As I was looking over the menu the wife mentioned that the breakfast burritos, pancakes, and the huevos rancheros were all very good. Again I opted for lunch fare. I ordered the pork sandwich, which was not what I expected. Still good though. The wife ordered some eggs and pancakes. The service was OK. I asked the waitress if the pork sandwich was of the breaded type. She responded with "yeah it come on bread". Not what I asked her. So I asked again. She finally went and asked the cooks. She promptly returned and said "yeah it comes on bread". Again, not what I asked. Which is why what I ordered, was not what I expected. Oh well. Prices are decent and portions are generous. Not my favorite diner in town, but it'll do pig.
(3)Aaron W.
So, this place was an interesting mix of awesome and not so great. They serve chips, and they serve salsa, but it took a lot of convincing for them to serve us the two together. The waitress, after forcing the cook to do this for us, then had to show him the menu to convince him what I ordered actually came with eggs. That said, the green chili was awesome, the combination of tamales and eggs I think is genius, and the waitress gave us the perfect service. I'll be here again, but not sure it will be a weekly stop. My girlfriend says "I thought the fajitas were really dry, and the peppers were inconsistently cooked." but agreed it was a solid 3.
(3)Ramon G.
Pefect greasy spoon kinda diner to throw some good breakfast chow down. Service is friendly and fast. Lots of specials and choices for breakfast. I love the home fries and their omelets. French toast and pancakes are pretty typical for what you get at other local places. I'll definitely be back for more!
(3)J Z.
I only eat one thing at Javier's Diner, usually: the breakfast burrito with chorizo and green chile, and sometimes a side of French toast. The hot chile is hot, so watch out. I usually get half and half. I would note that there are a lot of new servers and bussers there lately that could use some more experience and/or training. I am not sure of the reason for the turnover, but everyone has to learn, so I will give them some time to get up to speed. It wouldn't stop me from eating there, however.
(4)George A.
Fast, Quick, Good and cheap. Any questions? lol Great place for a quick meal
(4)Curt W.
excellent food wonderful gravy and green chilli. however are waitress was cold and unitentive
(4)Redwing T.
First time eating here. the first thing I notice is the kitchen is out in the open and you can see whats going on .I really like that .the waitress's were very friendly and helpful the service was great ( perfect) I felt like I was at a friends house .the food arrived and was surprised at the amount WOW ! Big plate I had the mexican hamburger breakfast I ordered the green chili hot it had a little kick and was tasty , I perfer my chili hotter I didnt know I could have ordered fried jalapenos. My mom was in the resturant biz all her life she sat the bar very high on how things should be done .she would have loved this place ! thank you all for a great breakfast .see you soon !!!!!
(5)Maryanne W.
Spolied meats, under cooked potatoes, bland green chili, orders coming out that were not what our group had ordered.
(1)Kyle M.
I know what you're thinking. Who wants to try a greasy spoon with a strange name? Why would I go here when there's a lot of other good places in the area? Are they trying to imply through their name that it's a "C" grade diner? Resist what you may be thinking. Just go, breakfast seekers. It actually took me quite a while to decide to try this place. It was never on my radar. Then, one Sunday, I thought "what the hell?" The green chile is fantastic. I think it's actually one of the better green chiles North Denver has to offer. It's spicy and a little on the runny/soupy side. This is preferable for breakfast, because it invades every crack and crevice of your breakfast burrito as you work your way through it with your fork. The breakfast burritos are bigger than the oversized, waterlogged cigar your gross Uncle Artie flicked in the pool at the family reunion. Actually, they're much, MUCH bigger than that. Filled with grilled home fries, eggs, your choice of meat, etc. And the best part is....it's not really that greasy! The open-air kitchen gives the place more of a mid-century diner feel, and you can even eat at the counter and watch the action. I have ordered one dish here that didn't float my boat. The tamale breakfast was...not the biggest portion. Plus, the tamales were a bit on the bland side which was surprising. Stick to the more traditional breakfast fare, like the fantastic burritos discussed above. Let it be known: the "C" has nothing to do with with this place's grade. It has everything to do with the "Crazy" delicious breakfasts you're missing out on if you don't give Javier & C a try. Just don't bring gross Uncle Artie.

Great service, great green chile, low key...love it! Our new go-to brunch spot in the Highlands.

Did not even know this place was around, but I'm glad to have found it. From the outside, it is a non-presumptuous little diner, and the inside is pretty much the same. It is a total greasy spoon, but I love being able to get breakfast for dinner. They made a mean, "North Denver" skillet, with choice of breakfast meat (bacon, der), green peppers, onions, and green chile (I had them hold the chile.) There was SO MUCH BACON! I mean, a lot of bacon! The staff were really friendly, and you can watch the guy make your food because it is an open kitchen. It was a lot of food for a deliciously cheap price.

Fuck. My. God. This place is "orgasm on a Saturday afternoon" good.
(5)Diego H.
It's cheap and fast, a bit to mainstreamed of Mexican food for my taste. They have a large menu to choose from. No selection of Mexican drinks. If you looking for fast Mexican food, this is the place for you.

I realized that my last review did not really do this little gem justice. The wait-ladies are always smiling and extremely patient (with just indecisive people). The owner remembers regulars and is the main griddle master. The bathroom is sparkling clean and pretty nice, (because all of us are all to familiar with the diner bathroom that makes you a little cringy)

Loved this joint! A coupon brought us in, but the food will bring us back. I got the avocado breakfast burrito- YUM. Smothered in delicious green chile, this was one of the most interesting breakfast burritos I've had. Avacodo + your choice of breakfast meat or chorizo (I had bacon) was great combo. My boyfriend got the french toast, which he said was some of the best he's ever had. He doesn't eat egg dishes, so he's a bit of a french toast/pancake aficionado. We showed up at 8:15AM on A Saturday morning & sat right down. Although the place filled up while we were there, we still got great service. We'll be back!

If I could rate this place on their Green Chili alone - It would be a five star. I've tried some things on the rest of the menu and they have been less than impressive... flat french toast, and boring omelets... however; order anything with the green chili on it and you will be stoked! Service is ALWAYS super quick and friendly.

Awesome huevos rancheros! If it's busy parking is not so fun, but the food comes out quick and it's reasonable and tasty! Great breakfast/brunch option, we'll be back...

love this place... its is awesome one a saturday/sunday morning when you are feeling a little under the weather from the night before. Javier and C's is sure to cure any hangover!!! ...also its delicious and hearty!

Well it was Sunday, so we decided to hang out with JC. No not that JC (sorry big guy), but with Javier & C. Sunday's are for football and brunch. If church had a killer chicken fried steak and eggs, I'd reconsider. Before I get too far off topic, let me put up a review. J&C is pretty good stuff imo. If you're after a specialty breakfast, go somewhere else. There are plenty of great places that can satisfy your "trendy-$12-surf-and-turf-benedict" needs on the weekends. If you want to pull up a bar stool in a diner and get slapped with some tasty bacon and eggs quickly and cheaply, this is your destination. I went with the burrito supreme, which is a breakfast burrito with eggs, potatoes, bacon, ham, sausage, and gyro meat. Smothered with green chili and some sour cream. It's obviously a blatant knockoff of Pete's burrito supreme, but it's almost as good. I guess technically I have no idea who came up with the burrito first, but you get the idea. Apples to apples on the burritos, I like Pete's a little bit more, but I would definitely recommend this one if you're in the area. And if you have no idea what I'm talking about, you might want to consider drinking some bleach or something of similar value because you obviously haven't been eating out enough. The G/F had biscuits and gravy with some bacon and eggs. Smiles all around for both of us. The service here is great. I love family operated, super friendly businesses. I also love diners, so win-win for this guy.

I've only been to Javier & C once so far and it was A-OK, but I'm saying I'm a fan simply for their humble simplicity. While I enjoy the unique, quirky, fancy eateries that cater to Highlands' foodies, I also really appreciate a place that sweeps pretensions under the rug and offers a place where anyone, any age, from any walk of life can feel comfortable and get good food at a good price. And that's Javier & C's. A great family place. My trip satisfied the hangover from which my friends and I were suffering. I was too weak in the stomach to stray from the good 'ol bacon-eggs-toast-potatoes, but the rest of my party tried the pancakes and voted them AMAZING. I don't typically do the sweet stuff for brunchfast, but I did have a few bites and was very impressed. I coulda choked them down, to say the least. The biggest drawback is that in it's lack of hipness, Javier & C seldom sticks in my memory as good, cheap food close by. Surely none of my friends have seen it in 5280 or say "Ooo, you live in the Highlands?! There's this place, I can't remember what it's called but I go there after yoga all the time with Groupon Now for their mimosa bar..." blah blah blah, so it's not like it would ever win over some of the other spots on the block. Next time I'm looking to brunch in the neighborhood, I gotta remember to go back!

After years of living blocks away from this place, I finally stopped in for breakfast. (The small parking lot wasn't completely full for a change). I have come to believe in the adage that if you see cops eating in a diner in an area with more than one, the food there must be good. Right when I walk in, what do I see but 2 patrolmen and 2 plain clothes chowing down. My expectations went up, and they weren't let down. The waitress was quick and friendly (and cute). The menu isn't fancy; it's typical Colorado diner grub. I got the breakfast burrito with bacon and onions. It was good sized (I didn't feel hungry for the rest of the day). Their hot green chile is nice and hot, but not "Oh my God, why am I eating this" hot. The potatoes had that nice crust you get when they don't move around on the flat top too much. All in all, it was a tasty breakfast burrito. I'll be back to try some other stuff.

- Really bright and cheerful diner with a definite mom n pop-type vibe. You can sit at the counter and watch your food being prepared, or there's a spacious seating area with tables/chairs, and booths. - SUPER friendly staff. The serving lady noted that s

This diner is a greasy spoon. Thats not a bad thing, especially when ur hung over. It's a small place. the staff was very nice and the decor is very plain. Kinda like the food. Food was good just plain. We went for the green chili but weren't impressed. I might give it another chance, we'll see.

What to say about Javier & C? I've only eaten there once (so far), but was beyond impressed so will happily give 4 stars based on my one meal. Popped in for lunch with a friend on a random Tuesday afternoon, and sat at the counter because, well, that's the way diner food should be enjoyed. Our waitress was extremely friendly, but not in that fake, fawning sort of way where you just want to hit 'em with a fork to the forehead. I went with a California Burger, while John ordered some manner of crazy breakfast mash up which involved eggs, veggies, green chili, and gyro meat. While it might not translate well to a review, John is a veteran "counter jockey" so it was turned out to be just the right combo. My burger was perfect. I mean, literally, PERFECT. Cooked just right- juicy without being greasy. The avocado was fresh and ripe, and there was plenty of bacon (mmmm bacon). The onion rings were huge, and good. All in all, if you are a fan of diners, I would definitely give Javier & C a try. I will be heading back. Actually, I think that I'll head back today!

I love their breakfast burritos to-go and they have good smothered breakfast burritos. Small diner atmosphere with a friendly staff.

Forgive me as I write this review because I have never been to Javier's and walked out with my wits. Every time I go there, I leave in such a severe food coma that I can barely remember what I've eaten. I'll do my best though... I'm an East Coaster, and one thing I miss about the crappy East Coast (because believe me, there are very few things) are the diners. Greasy spoon diners are a dime a dozen in the East and believe me, there is no better place to spend a Sunday morning reading the paper, lingering over coffee, and clogging your arteries than a stainless steel-clad, Greek-speaking, greasy spoon diner. But Javier's has eased my ache. Javier's serves gargantuan breakfasts, in a great bustling atmosphere where the waitresses (and probably Javier himself) would learn your name if you came by two weeks in a row. I had (from what I can remember) a big fat omelet (and by big fat I mean 4 maybe 5 eggs?) stuffed with avocados and cheese smothered in some awesome green chili. It came with a heaping portion of home fries and probably some toast too (like I said, it's fuzzy). My husband had pancakes, with bacon and I think he got a side of green chili because I was raving about it. I remember the coffee cups always being refilled, and my water glass never being empty. Oh, and I remember Javier himself stopped by to say hello, check on us and thank us for visiting. What a nice guy! I spent the next several hours eyes half-closed watching the Bronco game and then I faded to black. I love Javiers. But I don't go as often as I'd like, because its so damn good, and they give you so much damn food, that I need to clear my schedule for the day to recover from my breakfast. But don't let that scare you away--the pain is worth it.

Awesome Mexican breakfast menu! One of Denver's best breakfast spots. Fast and friendly service, too.

This place is great. I was skeptical for about... two years... driving by on my way to DJ's Berkley Cafe. Last Sunday I made a hard left turn into the bowling parking lot and doubled back to the diner. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Denver omelette which, if I'm being honest, was slightly better than "meh", however my side of bacon was perfectly crispy and plentiful and my co-diner's smothered green chili breakfast burrito was the shiznet. This place has, in my opinion, THE BEST green chili in Denver. The coffee sucks but it's diner coffee which is often watery, so no shocker there. Oh and Javier was there, very friendly, working on the line and ringing up orders.

The BF and I love greasy spoon breakfasts, preferably with corned beef hash. So first of all, I have to say, Javier and C lost a star solely based upon this glaring omission from its diner menu. Its only 10 blocks from my house, and I've driven past it for years, but finally read the review on Yelp and we tried it today (Yes, this is a one visit only review). The service was friendly, but the waitress was clearly involved in other restaurant prep chores and so we were left waiting for her a few times in order to 1) Order breakfast 2) get our toast delivery for our yummy runny eggs and 3) get our check. She was extremely attentive to regulars, whom she greeted by name. Coffee was unremarkable. This place only has sugar and sweet and low. No Equal and No Splenda (also known as a "no-no" in my book). Thus, another star is taken away. I really enjoyed my standard breakfast. Cooked to order - eggs were over medium, and hash browns (which were really home fries) were crispy and brown. However, listening to the waitress literally yell across the restaurant to tell of her weekend escapades drowned out the discussion across the table between the BF and me. This took away the third star. I'd much rather go to Sunrise Cafe, Breakfast King, or Kyle's up the street than sit through this again. I will say the establishment itself was clean, food good, and service very nice. I was just hoping for a little bit more.

I have been here at least 4 times, always at someone else's suggestion. I try to be a good sport. Went for breakfast with friends after they suggested we go there this past week. I gave up meat for Lent and saw they had a selection of vegetarian items designated with a green leaf. I ordered the vegetarian combo that had: bean burrito, cheese enchilada, and chile relleno, and what I assumed was vegetarian green chile. Why wouldn't I, it was listed as a vegetarian dish. While eating I noted little chunks of something, tofu?, asked the waitress if it was meat and she said she thought so. It was not an error, that is what they serve. Why they thought it was o.k. to pour green chile with meat in it on a vegetarian meal is beyond belief. Although I am only a part-time vegetarian, I do have friends and family that are strict vegetarians and this would be very offensive to them. I looked at the menu again and saw where right above the vegetarian combo there was listed another vegetarian item "two pork tamales." Go figure

Unbelievable breakfast!! Just about everyone we were with got something with the green chile and we couldn't get over how good it was. I got a breakfast burrito with bacon and the green chile sauce... it was massive. I willed myself to finish, but sadly could not. Note to the owner: Bottle that green chile!

Great breakfast food, and cheap. Their pancakes are great. I also love the Gyro Omelet. Definitely a "hole-in-the-wall" type of place.

Not a fancy "place to be seen" kind of brunch spot, but AMAZING for a hangover cure and fantastic green chile and nopales...yum!

I finally made it back here for breakfast burritos over the weekend and am forced to bump my rating up to 4 solid stars. First of all, the burritos were ginormous. My mom and I split an egg, cheese, hashbrown, avocado and hot veggie green chile monster (love that you can get this without pork, it's rare!), while my husband did his best to devour a 5-meat wonder: bacon, ham, sausage, gyro meat, eggs, cheese and hashbrowns inside with hot pork green chile, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream on top. He couldn't even take it all down! He typically destroys similar burritos at other places so this means Javier serves a seriously huge, meaty burrito. I ordered these to go along with some coffee that they kept offering to refill during my short wait. Second, the waitress checked on her kitchen staff throughout to make sure they got our orders straight and chatted with me about her family. Very sweet and friendly. Each burrito was around $7 and made for more than one meal, so quite a steal. It's not always easy to please carnivores and veggies at the same time, and inexpensively, so this may become a more regular stop for me. Again, I thought the bright sunshiney open kitchen/dining area was a pleasant place to start my day.

Best green chili in North Denver -- that means Colorado Green Chili. None of this chili powder infused tex-mex stuff. Javier is one of the best diner cooks around. The staff is friendly, fast, and fun. The breakfast burrito is awesome. The chili is better than Pete's imho. You can't find a better diner than Javier and C's!

This restaurant is one of the reasons that I love this neighborhood so much. Where else can you order a breakfast skillet smothered in your choice of marinara or green chile? It truly reflects the Italian and Mexican immigrants of the area. The food was typical diner fare and probably a good standby. I wasn't too impressed with the skillet that I ordered, and the biscuits and gravy had that uncooked flour taste that I hate (a problem that waaaay too many diners have). I was excited to see that they had chilequiles on the menu and will definitely be back to try it out.

Awesome breakfast! Love the green chili :)

We finally tried Javier and C for breakfast. Good stuff! Massive portions. Very earthy green chili. Good menu. Comfortable space (nothing fancy but not icky). Friendly service. We will definitely return. We tried the mexican omelet, pancakes, red tamales (mmm) and green chili.

In Denver, their seems to be a lack of a true diner experience . Javier's has it all with great food to boot. Javier was one of the cooks and Kyle's kitchen for a number of years and knows his stuff. His green and vegetarian red chili is awesome. His prices are great with portions that are huge. You can even get a mini version which put your meal in the $5 range. Aside from that the best reason to go to this diner is Javier and Crew just like the name. In a society where we are losing our personal connections with each other and every place becoming so sterile and uniform it is good to see a mom and pop business surviving (although some months have been tough). Javier is always jumping out from the kitchen hugging babies saying hello to anyone and everyone. Fireman, policeman, neighbors, even the occasional homeless person that comes in off the street, he will give him a coke and send him out the door and wish him luck. The staff knows everyone's name and the place is more like a community then a restaurant. Nothing flashy about this place, its a diner for gods sake! so you will here the waitresses yelling across the restaurant and it plain Jane decor, but that only adds to the experience. I have been here over 50 times and the food, service, & atmosphere is always a great experience.

Javier is the BEST - he is such a good guy. One of the hardest working men I have ever met - and the food is great too. An old school greasy spoon for sure. Sits right on the corner of 38th and Tennyson in Denver. He landed there a few years ago and has had a huge following ever since. The menu is diverse and you can please anyone by taking them to this "joint." A real treat!

I love that I live just a couple blocks from Javier's and DJ Berkeley Cafe because they both have awesome breakfast, but are totally different styles. Javier's is a the perfect Denver style mix of all-American greasy spoon with green chile and breakfast burritos. The portions are large, the service is friendly, and people know each other. Javier's is clean inside and you don't come out smelling like a fryer which is always nice. Berkeley's is great yuppie breakfast and I won't bother reviewing that since so many other's have.
