Diabetics at TGI Friday

If you're a diabetic, then you must be extra careful while dining at TGI Friday. Try the salad menu at TGI Friday to keep your sugar and sodium intake in check. Soups are great to keep you full and satisfied without munching on the unhealthy greased meat-based dishes on TGI Friday menu.

Foods to Avoid at TGI Friday for Diabetics:

Sugar and sodium intake are crucial if you have diabetes. While the salads are the best option for you at TGI Friday, it is recommended to avoid the Pecan-Crusted Chicken Salad containing over 1000 calories and 1,650mg sodium. Also, skip Warm Pretzels with Craft Beer-Cheese dipping sauce as it contains more than 3000mg sodium. It is wise to skip the dessert for diabetics, especially the Brownie Obsession topped with Vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, and pecans.

I've been to Fritangas twice, for breakfast both times. Others in my family have had dinner there as well and report equally positive experiences. It really doesn't catch your attention from the outside, but If you like bright colors (I love bright colors), as you step through the door it immediately engages your senses with a brilliant yellow, red and white decor. I don't know but I'm assuming that Fritangas is family-owned and operated, and pride of ownership and a commitment to quality is apparent throughout. The paint is fresh and the restaurant is clean and well-maintained. Staff are sharp in black slacks and white shirts and blouses, and are very polite, gracious and professional. The menu itself is laminated - nice touch because they can keep them clean and sharp like the restaurant. Is anyone else grossed out by a menu that's sticky with salsa and who knows what else from previous diners, or is it just me? The menu is large in terms of options, mainly, but not exclusively, Mexican food. We've had Mexican breakfasts both times and my peeps who have had dinner at Fritangas have had Mexican food as well and it has all been excellent. If you're curious about their menu, they have a decent website (except for annoying music that comes on as soon as the page loads). Be aware that the site was last updated in 2008, but the menu looks pretty much the same except for prices understandably being a dollar or two higher in 2013. Still, it's very inexpensive and a great value. I like the food at Fritangas a lot - the food quality coupled with the value received is as good as you're going to get in a neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Still, we have lots of good Mexican food in Denver to choose from. Even more than the food at Fritangas, I appreciate the obvious hard work of the owners and staff to create and sustain a first-class small business in a very competitive market. This is what most sets Fritangas apart from much of its competition, and I really like encouraging and supporting the professionalism and quality that they're bringing to their part of the Westwood neighborhood.

Great lunch specials, hard to beat the price and quality. The "street" tacos as we call them make me feel like I'm in Mexico, authentic flavor and good prices. I believe they are called tacos Al pastor with marinated pork, cilantro, pineapple and onions. The steak nachos are great also.

I appreciated a number of things about Fritangas including great a la carte soft chile relleño for $2, awesome chips and salsa, decent carne asada tacos, and the fact they serve breakfast all day. My son was beside himself when he learned he could have pancakes, bacon, eggs, and hash browns for dinner. The restaurant is really clean and the service was great. We will be back! It's a month later and we have visited eleven times total. We now love the fajitas, flautas, beef tacos (Gringo style- but they fry their own taco shells), smothered breakfast burritos, huevos rancheros, and their aguas naturales. I had a gigantic virgin piña-colada that I think about often. Their green chili is good, too, so go visit Fritangas and enjoy.

the food is like any other Mexican food you can find in town. Now service is not that great, lack of friendliness and urgency.

The salsa was the best i've ever had and the food is excellent and authentic. Love it!

This is a new location on Chambers and Hampden, love the food, excellent food. Service is very friendly but slow! Still hard to find a true Mexican food place any where any more, highly recommend this place!!!

I really enjoy this food. This place is clean and staff is very friendly. Prices are good and make sure you get in early because the get busy.

Incredibly Authentic is the best way to describe the food! Service is great and the owners are great people. I have now eaten there multiple times and yet to have a single thing that I did not think was amazing. Would recommend a bowl of tortilla soup with any meal... Not a soup person but soo amazing. Recommend for any meal, even breakfast is incredible, be it a burrito on the run or sit down on the weekend for the huevos.

Good solid breakfast. Relatively cheap. Small dining room though. Other than that legit Mexican food.

Wow! How have I not heard of this place before our good fortune (and Yelp) led us in?! The most authentic Mexico City style Mexican food we have found. The only other comparable is Chili Verde (spellingis correct...unfortunately), with their authentic Puebla influenced Mexican food. Fritangas is better! After the first bites I had to ask where the owners originated from, and as expected was told Mexico City. They fully capture the essence of Mexico City food, without error (from what we have sampled so far). Looking forward to a weekend lamb feast and a caldo! The building facade fooled us for years into passing this as just another Norteno Taqueria.....boy were we wrong! Don't let the fast food appearance fool you...this place is the real deal! Orale! - El Gringo Chilango

A straight up Mexican Taqueria! The have good agua fresca- I had melon! Their Tortas blow Torta Grills away. Boyfriend brought one home the other day - from Torta Grill-it smelled like dog food, and there was no way in hell I would kiss him afterwards. This one is much much better. He did not even get halfway through the Torta Grills one. I had a combo with a taquito, a taco, and a tostada. They make their own hot sauce you will have to ask for it- it is worth asking for! Food is not fancy but cheap and hits the Mexi mark! The tamales which they make in house had good texture, but could have used a bit more pork. Green chile was kind of bland. It is a free for all in there and service was a bit touch and go.

This place runs incredibly smoothly when the manager/owner is there. It runs a less well when he is not there. I was so impressed with the menu, price, and speed of getting my food it is so worth come to eat here.

  • Amanda E.

I went to the one on Hampden and learned my lesson. I will call to order and come and pick up. The servers kept walking back and forth and no one would take our order. I tried being patient, and a few other customers came in ordered and left. While I still sat and waited... I thought the service was not very good especially trying to order. It's a fast food restaurant which tries to make it seem like a sit down restaurant. Other than ordering first and picking up I will not be coming back.

  • Ooj A.

Had their breakfast special. Everything was done just right. Waitresses are a bit too serious, but that could be due to the language barrier. Today's waitress is much friendlier. This is my third time here and it's been good food. The sign spinner on the Soutwest corner had a gray personality and a wonderful smile! Because of him and my waitress today, I'm upping my stats from 4 to 5. Lunches look good, I have to come back and try their lunches. Be back soon...keep up the good food and the fair prices!

My boyfriend and I almost always hit this place at breakfast, so I can't really speak much for the lunch/dinner food - though, the few times we have had non-breakfast items, it was pretty tasty. But, breakfast here is where it's at. First, let's get a few things out of the way. This is, in no way, healthy food. Like, we ate there this morning and were tired for the rest of the day. But, when you see things like cheese and chorizo on the menu, you should kind of expect this. I had the Denver Omelette this morning, which was fab. Despite the fact that it was loaded with chorizo, it wasn't greasy. They claim to have the best green chile in town, which I've found is a very, very popular claim among Denver restaurants. I'm not going to say they have /the/ best, since I haven't tried every other place that claims to have the best, but their green chile is fantastic. Like, amazingly so. My omelette came with a decent sized bowl of it, and I smothered my plate. It's nicely spicy, but not ridiculously so. One of the best things about this place is the value. The breakfasts I tend to go for here are right around $5.50 or so, and they give you a ton of food. Like someone else mentioned in their revue, the place is always slammed full of Mexican diners, and that always signals good things for me, much like when I head out to get Pho and find a place slammed with Vietnamese diners. And, the place is small and slightly cramped, but somehow the noise level stays down. The service is always good and friendly, which is important. Their fruit shakes are superb, and great to grab on the way out.

  • Dough H.

This is the some of the best Mexican food in Denver. The breakfast is great and affordable, but they also have a lighter fare for children and people not craving burritos. My favorites are the veggie(non-meat) menu items, most places in Denver don't cater to people that either don't eat meat, or are vegetarians. There is a lot to sort through off Federal but this is not a dive, it's a gem.

Great food and the staff is really nice , one of my relatives bought food from here for her party and it was great , the food was on time and hot !!

  • Kristen W.

Truly great service! The chips and salsa are also fabulous! My 3 star rating comes from the lack of flavor in the refried beans and less than great red and green chili. My chili relleno was pretty wonderful so I wish I could give them a 3 and 1/2 stars. I'll be back and try it again due to the friendly service and wonderful chips & salsa....OH and GREAT PRICES!!!!

  • Kate S.

Absolutely delicious Mexican food! Went in on a whim and fell in love - great service and amazing food. The nachos we ordered as an appetizer were huge and delicious. I had chicken fajitas which were excellent and my dining mate had carne asada with a side of green chili - also delicious! A nice blend of more traditional Mexican items (gorditas, menudo) and more "American" Mexican. Super inexpensive, huge portions and delectable. Going back today!

So delicious. The staff is incredibly nice here and, like others have said, so helpful. I tried something I have never tried before: Huaraches. I got it with beef. YUM!! It's a quick, casual, delicious spot for lunch or an easy dinner.

I'm going to start a new taco review scale where one star is equal to the tacos at Benny's and 5 stars is equal to my current favorite. For the purpose of this review my favorite is Los Carboncitos. And so, Fritangas falls squarely in the middle of these two. Here's how it all went down... Last weekend I was looking at cars and we were driving down Alameda when Sir Nicholas' stomach gave a frightful growl. Or perhaps he just mentioned he'd like to eat soon. This part of the story is hazy. Anyway I used the trusty iPhone Yelp app to determine we were mere minutes away from Fritangas. (Doesn't saying this name make you want to do some sort of chant and/or dance along with having dramatic music playing in the background? Kind of like if I said "Fritangas" I would expect a chorus of hushed voices repeating it behind me with some sort of bongo drum beat or something.) So, we pass it and it's bright yellow with tons of pictures of Mexican food plates all over the building. These are good signs and we agree to stop. The restaurant is fairly small, clean, bright and generally awesome. The people working there are friendly. Some of them will speak to you in English and some won't, but you're covered either way and they don't scorn school-girl Spanish if you know so and want to practice using it. I ordered an Orange Fanta. Duh. And a taco plate. This has now become my tasting dish for Mexican restaurants as mentioned above. Generally I get pastor or asada or a combination to keep the comparisons comparable. I went with asada here and I was pretty disappointed. There wasn't any of that hidden spice and flavor. The meat wasn't tender and/or juicy. The guacamole was... runny? But, neither did it taste too bad. It just tasted like meat that was cooked a teensy bit too long. I also feel I should mention that they don't serve their tacos on 2 small corm tortillas like I've come to expect. They give you a slightly larger, single corn tortilla. They also serve the plate with rice and beans which isn't standard in many of the other places I've visited here in Denver. So, I wasn't sorry I went and tried it. But, I don't I'll be making a return visit any time in the near future. The end.

Had an out of town group eat at Fritangas, Mexican food starved as they live in Hawaii. They loved the TLC of the wait staff, the horchatas, huaraches, generous sized plates full of fresh ingredients. The house gave the kids churros, ice cream, love this place!

  • Robin M.

Fritangas is working hard for your business with reduced prices for breakfast specials (their pancakes weren't so great, but the bacon, eggs, and potatoes are tasty and a steal for $2.99), lunch deals, and new menu items like -- sandwiches? Yes, gringo sandwiches, and boy, are they good. The club sandwich is excellent, but today I spotted the turkey sandwich topped with bacon, avocado, cheese, lettuce, and tomato all on huge slices of lightly buttered, toasty grilled bread. Wow. It was enough for two people. I barely made a dent in the heap of fries with it, and I took half the sandwich home. All this for $6.50. Give 'em a try. It's not usually crowded, yet they do have some really good stuff. Huaraches, tortas, cocktel de camarones, lots of authentic stuff, and also Americanized Mexican food for those who like crispy tacos, ground beef, and so on. If you ever have room for dessert, my son says the stuffed churros are fantastic.

If you want authentic Mexican food that is good and inexpensive in the Denver area, this is the place to go!!! The servers don't speak a lot of English but they are really nice! The food comes in generous portions. Lunch specials run for just $5.99 and it includes a drink! I've never had breakfast here but a friend of mine said they have huge breakfast burritos served for like three bucks! Definitely a good place to eat!

I have been going to Fritangas several times. What you will find in Fritangas is food from Mexico city. The costumer service is excellent. What I always order from them is Huaraches. Never tried them before until now. There is food on their menu that is very different from northern Mexican cuisine. Totally recommend if you want to eat something that is different but still Mexican.

I have only been to the former location on Federal but it was very good. Really delicious, authentic Mexican food. Sometimes uncomfortable to go into because the diners were all Mexicans and would stop eating to stare at the whites walking in the door. But we suffered that for the delicious food. Good prices, nice family running it, great food. As another poster mentioned, the stuffed Churros for dessert are fantastic.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
