Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Not exciting. Not worth going out of your way.

I LOVE El Zarape. These guys are so nice and their food is authentic, well priced and delicious. This place isn't fancy by any means, but for a low key, awesome meal it is perfect. Their breakfast burritos are cheap ($2 I believe) and very good. The last dinner I had there was the pollo asada plate and it was great. The carne asada plate is very good as well. Definitely worth checking out.

I have gone a few times because it is near my work. The food has always been very bland and I have been over charged more than once. I would avoid this place at all costs, there are plenty of better places to eat nearby.

I had booked El Zarape to cater a company event, so i went to try the food at the restaurant. I was unimpressed by my visit, rather small portions and nothing special about the taste. I began to worry about my choice. I had 200 construction people coming and wanted them to be happy with the food and have enough to eat. Finally the day came and we picked up the food, tons of food, and we ate, and ate, and ate. The food was fantastic, some of the best, authentic mexican I have ever eaten. As far as the catering, the prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. I am guessing that the day i visited the restaurant was just an off day. Their catering was great and we will use them again and again.

Great, divey restaurant. I haven't tried much here yet, but the carnitas and barbacoa burritos are great. And the prices are right. The carnitas burrito contained pieces of vegetables such as carrots. Almost like a pot roast dinner in a burrito. And their green sauce is some of the best I've ever had. But they seem rather resistant/reluctant to give out a couple of cups of their tasty red sauce.

Fast, good, delicioso My girl Rhonda loves her tacos, and I don't live in her hood so I don't know all the good, the bad, and the ugly, but I do know if I see a man outside in 29 degrees, at a grill, throwing meat and smiling that this may be a f'n good place to get a taco on Federal. So good so right. Steak or chicken, yeah... green chile, yeah... double corn tortilla, soft grilled...yeah... Go , just go

I love tacos! After reading yelper reviews of El Zarape I was psyched to check it out. Perhaps there is another El Zarape? The one we visited did not impress me at all. Not even close to what I was expecting in terms of the food. I was expecting a small, neighborhood, hole-in-the-wall type restaurant which is fine with me. What I wasn't expecting was greasy, nearly uneatable chips (literally they had pools of grease floating in most of the chips causing them to be soft, not crispy) along with fatty chicken (including tendons) in the chicken tacos. On the plus side, the carnitas tacos were pretty good, the pork was crispy and well seasoned and the corn tortillas were fresh - but overall nothing to rave about. El Zarape is a good value ($1.50 per taco) but I'd personally pay a bit more for better ingredients. Jack n Grill is more expensive but their taco sampler plate is worth it. I wanted to love El Zarape, but alas I left very disappointed and unsatisfied.

I'd been on the hunt for cheap, good, real Mexican food and finally found it here at El Zarpe. The $1.50 tacos are great, but if you want to splurge with a fuller taco meal go with one of the alambre dishes for several grilled meats mixed with vegetables, cheese and a side of guacamole (which was great, by the way, nice and creamy) served with tortillas to fill. I plan to return and will write more as I explore the menu. Don't be mistaken -- this isn't fancy, nor is it the healthiest food in the world, but that's exactly what I'm looking for every once in awhile :) UPDATE: Not sure if this place is in transition? The El Zarpe signs on the outside seem to be gone, and half the menu has changed. Half of the El Zarpe menu is still there at the moment (4/25/10), so we ordered off that and were happy. Anyone know what's up?

I'd give this place more like 3.65 stars if I could. It's the real deal taqueria complete with hand painted signage and tagging on the building. I was here for the tacos though. They have five meats on their taco menu. Asada, pollo, carnitas, barbacoa and adobada. I thought I would try all but the chicken but the waitress told me I could only get one type for the plate of four AND they didn't have barbacoa or adobada. Hmm. They list them individually for $1.50 each but you can't get different meats? OK... and they're out of probably the two most highly seasoned and therefore prized by me meats. Uhh okay, let me have the carnitas tacos please and a diet coke (shut up). Homemade thick chips are a plus and the three salsas (a very mild slightly bland red, probably new mexico chiles, a better red with maybe tomatillos and a nice amount of cumin to the flavor, and an also decent chunky green chile salsa). The tacos are out in no time at all and are nicely cooked and served on two handmade tasting corn tortillas. Heavy on the salt but edible and the flavor under the salt was pretty good. No al pastor on the menu although there is an outdoor prep station, I didn't see the infra-red al pastor burner spit anywhere near it. Maybe that's a summer or real warm weather only thing. The people were nice and friendly and they are fast but... there's just too many good taqueria's on this side of town.

Landed in Colorado for an extended "sabbatical" and asked my hosts to take me to a good Mexican place. I've been living in New England where I did not once find a real Mexican restaurant. I've heard there's one in East Boston, but I never made the trek all the way out there. So, back in the West, real Mexican was again available, and this little place is great. Plastic furniture, rodeo on the television, no English from our sever (the hostess was fluent) and great food. Awesome barbacoa stew - crappy guac, however. Tamales were on the menu but predictably unavailable. Great little Mexican place.

This restaurant was so good, authentic and uh-GREAT. The food was all fresh and delicious and the staff was attentive and helpful. Though we did not have any tacos, the enchiladas and burritos were amazing. Definitely going back!

You go here for the tacos plain and simple, my personal fav are the carniatas. Nice and crispy served with onions and cilantro, what more could you need? The burritos are also tasty, huge and super cheap. If your feeling brave the ceviche is amazing depending on the day. Yes the atmosphere could use a little help, but suck it up and pretend your in Mexico for abit. My only complaint is the serious lack of booze, who doesn't love a cold beer and fried pork? yummy!
