I'm a huge fan of the other El Taco Veloz that's further south on Federal. Been there dozens of times, and it's always great. I decided to give this location a try because I was in the area. The good: The food is about on par with what I'm used to. Right down to the salsa bar. The bad: -Holy shit this place is dirty. It was lunch rush and there were 4 open tables...but nobody bothered to bus them in a timely manner. We had no choice but to sit at a dirty table, and I had to clean it myself. -Prices seemed high. $3.50 for an horchata? I also ordered 5 tacos and the total was over $13. Dios mio, man. -At their other location, I get the food within 5 minutes. This place took closer to 20 minutes. The al pastor is on the spit. How long does it take to cut it and throw it on a tortilla? -It was 100 degrees in there No way in hell I'm going back to this location. Whoever is running this place, clearly doesn't give a shit.

If you're looking for a 'roach coach' Mexican food place that has indoor seating, this is the place for you. Some of the highlights in my opinion are the Al Pastor as well as the Salsa Bar. You do not usually get the latter food/sauce option in many places, so this is a major plus. Sure, it may have its flaws and esthetically it could use a facelift, but the food is still real scrumptious.

Why isn't this place 5 stars yet?! For an affordable taco spot this place is on point. I ate dos tacos al pastor y dos de asada y estaban deliciosos te digo. My buddy had the shredded chicken plate with rice and beans and it was spot on too, must have been pollo entomatado. They have at least 6 fresh salsas to choose from and some good pico de gallo. It reminds of Mexico check it out.

El Taco Veloz -- (The Quick Taco) This place only a few blocks north of I-70 on Federal Blvd. If you are in the area, you usually cannot go wrong with the authentic Mexican food on Federal Blvd. This place offered me a great, quick, and inexpensive dinner. You walk in and order at the counter. The menu is on an expansive board behind the counter. The menu is quite large, and they offer way more than tacos. I ordered 5 different tacos to go and proceeded to the salsa bar. After finishing dishing my salsa in to-go containers, my tacos were ready. 1, The menu does not have prices; the tacos were $1.60 each. All five were $8.60. 2. I was the only non-Mexican, which is a good sign in my book. 3. Unlike many other taco places that use 2 corn tortillas, the tacos here come on 1 fresh corn tortilla with onions and cilantro served with radish rounds and lime wedges. The one tortilla stands up well. 4. Of the 3 tacos that I ate, I was impressed -- asada, carnitas, house made chorizo -- and all were well seasoned. I have one al pastor and one barbacoa for later. 5. There was a lot of meat on each taco. I was glad that I stopped and will return. I plan on being more adventurous next time and will order beef tongue and the like.

Piss poor comida Mexicana, sloppy wet torta and the tacos de carnitas is terrible. Taco bell across the street is better.

Ya know, the interior leaves something to be desired. And we probably would have just driven by if we had been judging it by its cover. But... Taco nirvana awaits. So well spiced. So well cooked. Such tasty salsas. A street taco paradise? Perhaps. Worth the stop? Definitely. Get some tacos. You won't regret it.

Visited again tonight, this time had the tacos which were delicious! onion and cilantro were simple and fresh. Love the house made tortillas. Husband ordered the al pastor - oh buddy! Wished I had ordered that instead - it was even better than my tacos! As before the salsa bar is tasty and has a nice variety. Only drawback was incessant and cranked talk radio, so loud that I had to yell to talk to my husband at some points.

Apparently, they have changed owners. And names. And scope of restaurant. I had been here once waaaay back in 2005-ish. It was, as you may know, interesting. I remember it being garishly brightly lit, with the TV on loudly. I came here hoping for the same. I expected the al pastor spit turning before the infrared burners. I wanted some cheap-and-dirty, yet delicious, food. I expected not to fit in. I am unrequited. It's not that the food is bad, it's just that it's much cheerier inside. It's also that there is no al pastor spit glaring at you, begging you to have some meat cut off the side, marinating itself in its own savory and sweet juices. It's also now a seafood restaurant. A seafood restaurant? My first clue was the sign on the side of the building that said something to the effect of "Taco el Veloz nueve blah blah Mariscos el Veloz." I walked to where I remembered Tacos El Veloz to be, but saw some brightly colored awning claiming camarron. This was not what I remembered. I walked back to my car, and read the sign again, this time a little more carefully, recalling my high school Spanish. OHHH... It's now a Seafood restaurant! I went in again, noting the seafood-themed murals. I'm not so sure the restauranteurs got permission from Disney to reproduce the visages of Nemo and his friends, but they were there. But I still had tacos! The tacos weren't bad. The al pastor was not large chunks of pork turning on a spit, but were still juicy and flavorful. Nice seasoning. They put a nicely sized wedge of pineapple on it too. The asada was just as good. The salsas were pretty good. I was ladling a green salsa, not really knowing what was in it, and found some hard, large, oblong orbs floating in it. They were avocado pits. Highly recommended; it was nice and limey. The roasted red chile salsa is quite hot, but not as hot as the green chile one. Next time, I will get a fried fish, seeing as though it really is a seafood joint now. I just wish I felt a little more out of place. Make me work it!

Tasty tacos. I tried a couple al pastor, a lengua (tongue), and a carnita. The meats were nicely seasoned and the single small corn tortilla was tasty (why not two?) and had to be freshly made. I think I might skip the lengua next time. By the time I got to the salsa bar, it looked like a small bomb had been set off in it or a pack of crazed college students had ravaged it (Regis U. is just behind the shop). The bar has a large assortment of goodies besides an array of salsas. Some of the stuff I haven't seen at a taqueria before. There was a whole pan of roasted stem on chiles de arbol (tasty), a huge mocajete of a green chile and tomatillo salsa, and the remnants of what looked like a homemade vinegared jalapeno, carrot, and onion relish rather than the stuff out of a can. About ten miles closer to home for me than my favs down south so yeah, I'll be back (hopefully before the bombing of the salsa bar : ) To the other reviewer that recommended the trompas and buche, hmm I think I may try the buche (pig esophagus) but trompas (lips) I think I might pass on.

after reading the review by mark i made a mental note to stop by this place. it sounded like a good taqueria and I've eaten alot of crappy mexican in denver. veloz taco didnt disappoint. i'm a huge tacos al pastor fan and thats what i think of when i think of tacos! the tacos al pastor at veloz were damn good. for me a big part of tacos is the condiments. a good taco has cilantro and onion only! no cheese, no lettuce, if i wanted that i'd get a torta! veloz has a salsa bar. not only a salsa bar but pickled veggies, radishes, lime, jalapenos, cucumbers, and 6 salsas. my tacos get this treatment: lime red salsa tomatillo/green salsa stick some radish on there sprinkling of salt chow down! add radish to mouth as necessary. take a sip of orchata and repeat! after you're done eat a couple of salted cucumber pieces to cool down and move on to the next taco! 5 tacos later i was a happy man. like mark says this isnt the taj mahal! its kinda seedy w half walls of wood paneling and a long counter w seating. the al pastor cone is dripping right next to you as you order. i did like the paintings though! i was there at 10 on a sunday and it was busy. i passed a few places that i was interested in on the way but them being closed i kept going. i'd glady pass them again to eat at taco veloz! maybe next time the caldo de res w a guava boing!

Some say eating on Federal is scary. I say.... Close your eyes and open your mouth cause Every day is a Federal Food Day! (you know..... cause Federal only looks scary) El taco Velos is one of the restaurants that you have to go to on your Federal Food Day. Although, it looks a little sketch, the eats will do you right! The tacos are just a bit bigger than an average street taco. There is only one tortilla, but it is made right there in house and is strong enough to hold the massive quantity of meat served on it. You can fill your belly for around 8 bucks. The salsa bar has several different tasty and spicy treats including my fav, whole pickled jalapenos. And if you've had too much salsa, cool your buds with a giant horchata!

I came on a day the Restaurant had dwarf horses chillin outside of the restaurant right next to Federal. Right then and there I knew something special was going to happen. Restaurant is typical Mexican restaurant, typical decor and a salsa bar, nothing out of the ordinary... I ordered a Cuban Tortas and it was just insane. W/in this tortas there are: 1. a hot dog 2. asada steak 3. milanesa (breaded fried meat) 4. pulled pork 5. al pastor pork 6. avocado 7. lettuce 8. cheese 9. Mayo I finished it on top of two other al pastor and barbacoa tacos. Strongly recommend the two tacos too...very flavorful. I recommend the tortas if you're starving OR if you just want to be blown away by so much meat. I got light headed afterward after so much goodness. Full heartedly recommend people who are willing to disregard ambience, location, for great food. Total cost after that torta and 2 tacos? $12 People who come to restaurant like this isn't here for SERVICE, ambience, etc... we want the authentic mexican food. If you can overlook and not care that much about the above then there you go.

Word to the owner.... Learn how to clean better! It's just dirty, sticky tables and chairs, dirty windows. The good thing about this restaurant is the food is really good. But I bet more business would be if it was cleaner.

went here tonight with georgina k. based on the review from M M.(the master al pastor reviewer) I had to go with 4 al pastor tacos, and ina went for the chili rellenos. The al pastor were very good, but i wish they were a tad more crispy, none the less, they had great flavor and the homemade tortillas and pineapple were great. This place also has a really great salsa bar, with lots of homemade salsa as well as radish, cuckes, and pickled onions. Ina's chili rellenos was not spectacular but she still enjoyed it. I should also mention they have great strawberry (Agua de Fresa) and horchata.

We went to El Taco Veloz based on all of the great Yelp reviews, and because, lets face it, who doesn't love a great street taco. My hubby and I both had tacos, his were fish and mine were carnitas and barbacoa - however we had a vastly different opinion of our experience. I'm not really a meat on a spit connaisseur but what ever was on the spit was a "color not found in nature red" and didn't look to appetizing to me. Benefit of the doubt...I'm sure it was covered in some sort of delicious red chili concoction. My tacos were very plain except for the delightfully delicious grilled onions. The carnitas tasted as they should but the meat was overly greasy, as in grease was pouring out of the tortilla. The barbacoa was boring, utterly tasteless so if you go there, stick with the pork. Both needed salt. In a nutshell: Food: 2 stars - nothing with the exception of the onions stood out. All of the salsas from the salsa bar were just really picante, but flavorless. Service: 4 stars - very warm and friendly. Atmosphere: 1 star - I don't have a problem with dives, but they need to at least be clean and this place just didn't feel clean to me. The entire place needs to be gutted. At 2pm on a Saturday afternoon El Taco Veloz was practically packed with families and kids - so they obviously know something I don't.

Third eating place on our recent UYE taco tour -- ole! -- and again I had a single taco al pastor. This one came with pineapple (without having to ask for it, which is as it should be). A darn good taco, ample portion and very flavorful. As a bonus, we got to see the staff assembling a massive new skewer of al pastor pork. It's made of thin layer after layer of marinated pork, starting with a huge onion at the bottom to stop the meat from sliding off and then building an inverted cone of meat. The assembly guy's hands are stained red with the marinade. They told us they prepare and use about 100 pounds of pork al pastor a day. As the meat is shaved off the outside, the exposed meat cooks. Don't sit too near the cooker unless you want to roast yourself -- although it might be cozy in the wintertime. As an aside, I wonder what they do with those onions? I bet they taste great after all that roasting and being soaked with the drippings from the meat above! There are lots of other great items on the menu, and I look forward to a return visit.

Went here Saturday night 7/6/2013. The building is a serious dump. Bathrooms disgusting. Completely run down inside and out. I'm no snob, but this place was bad. The salsa bar did have a ton of stuff, but no way to keep it cool or the flies off of it. The Aguas Frescas jars had no covering either. The tables were sticky and dirty as well as the booths. My son ordered a gordita de pollo and the plate had a dead bug on it. My husband and daughter ordered tacos al pastor and they didn't even finish it, said it was dry and generally not good. That's a first for me to see my man not finish a taco, and he's from México. This spot needs to be condemned or shut down by the health department, seriously. El Trompito es mejor!

Finally had the pleasure of being in the neighborhood of El Taco Veloz and being hungry enough to stop in. SO many excellent choices on their menu while Mexican music pours out of the speakers. You can groove on the picture of the fine spit of meat they carve their al pastor from...wow, is that tender. (drool) I finally settled on a smothered classic burrito there. Thinner than the Qdoba/Chipotle variants (but not by much), and longer -- it fills one of those styrofoam "to-go" burrito cartons nicely. I was treated to chorizo, sour cream (or maybe crema? I don't know the diff yet, I'm an inexperienced white boy :p ), diced tomatoes, avocado slices, cheese, onion (very spicy!), all wrapped up in a flour tortilla and smothered in green chile sauce. It was about $6 if I recall correctly. So tasty. That, combined with 2 large fresa agua frescas (since I don't live in the area, I like to get one to stick in the fridge and suck down on during the week), and I was set to go. Staff is very friendly -- definitely has a homier feel than the corporate places. If you don't live close by or have easy access to Federal, head towards I-25 and I-76...then go west on I-76 for a mile or so until you hit Federal. Turn left or south and go a little over a mile up the hill, El Taco Veloz is just after Viva Burrito at the "top" of the hill. VERY worth it. They are open till 3am every night, I believe!! And I *did* see a catering-type truck on the side of the building, so they may deliver single orders...or maybe just cater larger events. Check em out!

Meat on a spit!!!!! Meat on a spit!!!!! Oh my gosh, these tacos are delicious. If you're looking for a slight tinge of adventure and some yummy authentic Mexican taqueria food, look no further!!! So what if it's not in the part of town you usually visit when you're eating south-of-the-border....if you really want to venture south, you'll check it out. ;) The super-flavorful tacos al pastor (roasted on that spit there in the picture) are my numero uno, along with the alambres and sopes (bet you've never had either of those before....they rock). The barbacoa is good too- very juicy. If you've got a tongue for spicy, try the salsa bar too! I'm sure you'll love the "authentic" Mexican music they play over the radio, too. And they're open till like, 3 in the morning! What's not to love?

Bomb-diggaty tacos. on the cheap. This place rocks, the food is good. Tacos adobada (marinated pork) are my favorite. They have a bar of different salsas to try with your food. Its a family run joint, slightly greasy atmosphere. If you go on Friday or Saturday night there's a chance you'll see a guy selling bootleg music/movies nearby, which should be another way to rate a taco joint in the survey. word.

Slightly torn between 3 & 4 stars, but the awesome corn tortillas are pushing this to 4 stars. This place was quiet on a Friday afternoon, but that still didn't mean that all the tables & booths were clean. Fortunately, a tasty al pastor taco made up for that. I ordered the taco plate which came with 3 tacos and rice & beans. I tried the al pastor, carnitas, and asada. The al pastor had awesome flavor, lots of sweet & savory seasoning. The carnitas was my next favorite with incredibly tender meat and the asada was my least. I don't think I'd get the asada again - as it lacked the flavor of the other two. Fortunately you can pick from about 10 different salsas to jazz up your tacos. There is one that is an orange hue that has a slightly sweet initial taste but then leaves you with a lingering burn in the back of your throat. The grilled onions on the tacos were a nice touch and I loved how soft the corn tortillas were - never once crumbling while eating them. Everyone loves a greasy taco from time to time, but the fact that these were not overly greasy won me over. The Mr. had a smothered al pastor burrito. The green chile was mild, but had a decent flavor. It came topped with a Mexican crema and lettuce & cheese. The tacos were far superior to the burrito and that's what I'll most likely return for - or maybe a torta.... This place is open until 3am - so you've got plenty of hours in the day to try them out.

I decided to stop by here instead of Chipotle or Qdoba to pick up some authentic mexican food for dinner in the middle of the week about a month after I moved to Sunnyside. There was one table of customers and only one guy working. My order took nearly 15 minutes to prepare. The food was good, but not exactly inexpensive. Next time, I suppose I'll take in the atmosphere and dine-in...

When I get a craving for some rice and beans, this place is definitely the place to go! When you first walk in your eyes go toward the meat spinning on a spit. I scanned the menu trying to figure out what that could possibly be, and then I realized it was the "al pastor". The al pastor tacos are amazing, especially if you get a side of rice and beans. They have a side bar of hot sauces and various pickled veggies. I've tried their burritos as well and they have yet to fail me. The only thing that I didn't quite love was their torta. I've tried it several times thinking maybe the meat combinations I was trying were not right, however, they just seem to be a little dry. That being said, I still give this place 5 stars because it is great and well worth checking out.

Tacos al pastor are great. I judge Mexican food resturants on their rice and beans and it was ok here. Service is kind of unfriendly.

Their Pastor is the best: THE BEST! I'm a taco fanatic, and this place is tops. I love that it sits across the street from a Taco Bell: I just stare out the window at the line of cars in the drive-thru and pity them... I have yet to try one of their tortas, but it looks like a monster. Their tacos are so good, I spend my time there attempting to mute my moans of pleasure as I eat...

I am sure the food is tasty, but this place is DISGUSTING, FILTHY, DIRTY, NASTY inside!!! Went to meet friends and literally couldn't believe how dirty this restaurant is. Every table had food remains on it, under them, and the floors were littered like it hadn't been cleaned all week. When I peeked into the kitchen, I was floored at how dirty the place was. If the health dept. walked in, they would shut this place down and issue fines. Maybe the food is good, but there's no excuse for the rancid condition of the dining area, bathroom, and kitchen. Wow... Disgusting!!!!

The food is good at this spot, but as other people have mentioned the eating environment is absolutely disgusting. This place needs an extreme deep clean. I do enjoy that they are open late, but they aren't always friendly nor is the environment desirable to sit down and eat at.

I'm pretty sure I am going to dream about those homemade corn tortillas. Yum! Seriously, these little gems were perfect. Nice and chewy in the middle with crisp edges. They are really the perfect vessel for the huge variety of meats that they have. I got the three taco sampler and a nice big glass of horchata. This came with rice and beans and filled me up just fine! For my tacos, I got the chicharrone, carnitas, and chorizo. The chorizo was my favorite with the crispy bits mixed in with the tender sausage. I am drooling just thinking about them. The carnitas were a close second--perfectly moist and flavorful chunks of pork that were seasoned just right. The chicharrones? I was not a fan. These were the first chicharrones I have encountered that were not crispy. In fact, they were soggy! I am not sure if this is typical of this place, but I would not order them again. My glass of horchata was the perfect way to wash down the delicious tacos. I will definitely be back.

Yes, it's run down. Yes, there is a broken down delivery truck parked in the drive-thru on a pile of dirt. Yes, it's in a bad part of town; I see at least one meth-head every time I stop by. And yes, the place is dirty. I think there's even some graffiti on the entry door. BUT, the tacos are so freaking good! First of all, it's what I think of as "authentic." I grew up in SoCal and am familiar with authentic Mexican food. So far I've had the al pastor tacos and the carne asada tacos, and both are fantastic. Simple, well-seasoned, with cilantro and onions and lime on fresh corn tortillas. And you can order one or 30--no problem. Skip the beans and rice though--just meh. The salsa bar is awesome! So many choices! Some hot, some not. Some red, some green, some yellow! And of course, they have my favorite: Salsa fresca. And even though I'm so white I'm nearly translucent, and most of the employees are originally from Mexico, I sensed no disdain or animosity; the employees are super nice and helpful every time. And did I mention it's cheap? Super cheap! Seriously, this is my new favorite taco place in Denver. You must try it. Must.

Very good quality AUTHENTIC mexican food. The staff could clean the tables more often but more often than not the place is packed because they have so much business they don't have man power to wipe tables regularly. Might be family owned.

I work walking distance from this place so I go semi-frequently. As has been mentioned, cleanliness is not a high priority. It can be a turn off when the place is busy and you want a clean table. My only other complaint is that they do not sell tortilla chips. They have a fantastic salsa bar with all sorts of salsas to try but not chips to use as a tasting vessel. Its a small complaint about a place that otherwise has really good, cheap, authentic Mexican food.

  • Lendy L.

So maybe I didn't order the best dish of tacos for lunch, that being three beef tacos, but neither did my friend. The meat wasn't anything great, juicy or flavorful. The gorditas were inly so-so, but the pork taco was pretty good. Service was slow and tables were not cleaned promptly. However, I did enjoy a nice two dollar fresh horchata drink. The only thing that this restaurant has going for it are the reasonable prices, which is cheap. I really was hoping for something good but you pay what you get and the quality isn't all that great. I would not mind coming back for the horchata. It would be great if the place was a real authentic Mexican place with mole, tamales, empenadas and all the other goody foods that takes hours to make. I haven't found a place yet.

This place is great the environment is very mellow and happy the staff is helpful and give great service. I got the pastor tacos and being from LA i know my pastor and that place is cooking some grade a pastor. No complaints at all everything was fresh the salsa was on point i recommend this place to anyone looking for a good cheap taco. Bravo.

Excellent street tacos in a funky small Mexican restaurant setting, just a couple of blocks south of 6th, on the east side of Federal. Liked the lengua, al pastor and carnitas, each for the deal price of around $1.50. They've also got a decent and large variety salsa bar. I think the taco size here is a little bigger and the taste a little better than what you get at Los Carboncitos, my previous choice for street taco offerings, but I'm going to have to return to LC to do a fair comparison. In sum, El Taco Veloz doesn't have the notariety of the current street taco high-buzz restaurant, Pinche Taqueria (let alone a full bar). But if you're looking for street taco value, you'll pay less than half what you would at PT's, and while you won't get the complexity of flavor or quite the quality of ingredients, you'll get a damn fine Mexican street taco at a very affordable price.

My cousin informed me about this place and how they have tortillas echas a mano. So I met up there with another cousin! I had, what I usually have at a taco place- 2 tacos de lengua y dos al pastor. So you order at the front get your water or drink if u ordered one, sit down where ever u like if the table is clean of course, then wait for your food to be brought to you. I like the selection of sauce they have an that they are kinda spicy :-) (seriously) tasty!! Now to the tacos. I felt like the tortillas were kinda hard so when ever I would pick up my taco to bite it the tortilla would kinda break but still hold itself together if that makes sense lol but it was really the hardest tortilla I have had with tacos. It was eatable but that's how I found them to be. In fact I ate all for considering the fact that was my only meal of that day!! Los tacos de lengua were ok. So far I like the ones from TACOMEX on Colfax better. Los del pastor were tasty! Or maybe the salsa made it tasty? U get like 2-3 small pine apples on the top of them. As a garnish? I think they would fit better in with the tacos if maybe they are cooked with the meat. But I know now to ask for no piña. Over all i did eat them but didn't really like them. Specially el agua de horchata y fresa. They were too watered down and for me, not sweet enough. I really want to come Back sooner then later and maybe try something different that's why I'm going with 3 starts instead of 2. Oh and because el señor que nos atendió era muy amable. Le deje como $7 de tip on their tip cup but I don't think he even noticed.

Fish tacos. Perfectly cooked fish tacos. Fish (no breading, just fish), grilled green bell pepper, onions and a corn tortilla. 3 for $6. These are very good fish tacos. The condiments bar is excellent. The service, both order taking and table delivery was super friendly. My negatives are: 1. No diet soda. 2. No Wi-Fi. 3. Screaming kids. I love kids, but not the screamy ones.

This place looked like it was in a beat up part of town. When we walked in and ordered they lady was very friendly. After sitting down to wait for the food, I noticed how many flies were around. It got to the point where we had to ask to take the food togo. I tried some of my sister's smothered carne asada burrito and that was okay. It might actually be better to get it smothered because the carne asada was on the dry side. I also had the carne asada taco and a pastor taco. This was how I noticed the meat was on the dry side. I actually liked the pastor taco because the pastor was sort of crunchy. I have never had a taco with pineapple pieces on it but it wasn't too bad. Being from California, I have a to-go taqueria, and this place just did not really meet my standards.

If you like street tacos, check this place out! In college we would go to the place next door, viva burrito, but started noticing all the after hours cheddars were at El Taco Veloz, tried it and haven't been to viva since. Al pastor tacos, are a good place to start! Provecho!

Taco win! Just got back from this location and I'm happy to report that I will probably be switching to this location from Los Carboncitos (aka 'Scary Taco') as my favorite spot for tacos in the highlands area. Both the al pastor and the adobada tacos were very good. Our corn tortillas broke apart and we were forced to eat the end of our meal with a fork, but ohhh, messy is good. Nice selection of salsas at the salsa bar. On our way out I noticed that they had cokes in the fridge next to the register. I thought, can it be? Opened the door and, sure 'nuff, all sugar Mexican cokes. I'll be picking up a couple of those next time. A couple of warnings: The menu was entirely in Spanish with no prices to be found. I was forced to pull out my awesome (ok, horrible) Spanglish skills. Also, the tables and floor needed a good wiping down. Expect a little grit. You aren't here for the ambiance.

Muy Bien! This dive delivers the goods. Tacos Veloz delivers on real tacos. If a taco to you means a hard-shelled, ground beef with cheese, tomato, and lettuce served on the combination platter, this is not the place for you. If you like really good meats on really good house made tortillas, you have found the place when you come here. For those unfamiliar with the spanish words for meats, but trust that flavor is more important than knowing what you are eating, I must recommend that you simply order "dos de buche y dos de trompas" when you go in. You will be rewarded with a plate of four tacos with some of the tastiest and richest fillings you have ever had. A squeeze of lime and some radish, heaven on earth.

Fresh pineapple, handmade tortillas, juicy and crispy marinated pork fresh charred on a spit: For authentic Tacos al Pastor you cannot go wrong here. Some of the other tacos are really good here, but the pastor is really rather masterful. As I continue to compile research for my best tacos al pastor list (one rule is they must come from a spit), Tacos Veloz has consistently been edging out Carboncitos lately, and blows away Tacos Junior, TacoMex, and Tacos y Salsas. More to come. And to see some amazing paintings of a recent visit I made there with Food artist Riki Takoaka, visit my website. There is nothing like tacoart.

Walking in and seeing an al pastor spit certainly helped my first impression but I will say that my last impression far exceeded that great food all around from the tacos to the Fortas and chalupas fantastic

As far as the food goes it could definitley be a five star affair I just figured it would be less expensive but maybe I got ripped off being a Gringo and no prices are listed. My wife and I had 5 tacos (3 for me and 2 for her of which I could have easily eaten 6 or 7) and I got a glass of kool-aid stuff or something and it was nearly 18 dollars which equates to about 2+ bucks per which is a little pricy in comparison to the other taco joints which generally run a buck a piece. The salsa bar is fantastic and the tortillas do really take the cake. Like I said if the price was more in line with the rest of the taco places it'd be a definite 5 star.

El Taco Veloz is located along a strange strip of Federal Blvd - a virtual no man's land where I rarely find reason to visit. In fact, the only thing that has ever brought to this strip of Federal is El Taco Veloz. Proudly advertising "tortillas hechas a mano" via window painting, this taqueria puts together some fine tacos. Probably the most notable is their al pastor tacos - grilled on their glorious spinning spit to a red achiote-hued crunchy finish, their al pastor is among the best around. Personally, I found the pastor just a bit too dry to be declared the best, but it was still great nonetheless. Also not to be missed are their chuleta tacos, big, juicy chucks of pork featuring clean porky flavors that remind you why pigs are so awesome. As advertised, their tortillas are made by hand, and are soft, fluffy and fresh. They have a good selection of salsas and condiments in addition to an arsenal of agua frescas. El Veloz is definitely worth a special trip.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
