Came here on a saturday for lunch at 12pm and the food and drinks were delicious. I ordered a shrimp cocktail and a smothered chicharon burrito with 2 micheladas. The total came out to 24$. Which surprised me because the cocktail was 12 and burrito was 6.50 so with the drinks i was expecting to spend more. The micheladas were made perfectly and my food was great. The service was a little slow but i was happy with the way everything tasted therefore ill give it the 5 stars.

Food - was not that good , I'd rather go to Taco Star for a burrito . It's actually very pricy as well Service- was bad. I had to ask for the waitress two times. She was not that good at her job. Overall, won't be back & I would not recommend this restaurant .

This place is really good; perhaps the best Mexican I have had in Denver. Smoked pork tamale, made in house. Really delish, the best tamale I have ever had. The red sauce was obviously made with love; almost like a tomato broth. Had it on a killer chille relleno too. Carnitas tacos, the bomb. Slow cooked and tender, fresh warm corn tortillas. Shrimp ceviche toastada. Also, really good. Everything was spectacular, service too. I'd drive out of my way to go here. Décor can leave a lot to be desired, but they do have booths and plenty of parking.

Some of the worst Mexican food in Denver, which is saying a lot. We were stupid hungry so we pulled in here to give it a try. Service was adequate, not friendly, but they did come by. Food took a LONG time (about 25 minutes), which made me think it would be good. We had to ask for new silverware because it was dirty, like someone rolled the silverware with greasy hands, plus the bits of crusted food left on them. We should have left, but again we both get stupid when we are hungry. The restaurant wasn't clean, the bathroom was out of soap and smelled like sewer gas. If I had used it before the meal, we would have walked out then. My enchiladas were not smothered in red sauce as it stated on the menu, but a soggy mess with almost no cheese inside. The 'salad' that came with was a pile of pickled jalapenos (canned) on top of some lettuce, with an old tomato and a slice onion. Bland, soggy, overpriced, vitrually unedible. My partner got the flautas, which were fried so hard she could barely eat them. There was at least a good inch on either end of the flauta that had no meat, and for a 4 inch tortilla... The beans were ok, but the spanish rice was soft and totally overcooked, like it had been reheated in a microwave. The only perk was the amount of leftovers we brought home to feed our chickens. They love soggy rice and withered tortillas.

I drive by this place all the time, and every time the parking lot is packed. So since my tried and trusted Mexican joint was closed today, I decided to try the place with the packed lot. Can not tell you how bad of a mistake that was! But let me list the ways... 1. We were sat at a dirty table. I had to clean it myself. And I'm not talking about a little spec of something. I mean the entire table was coated in salt and lime specs. The Entire Table. Coated. 2. The table was by the kitchen, where who knows what was on fire, but the entire place was smoked out. It's a beautiful day outside, and because of this fire the joint was ridiculously hot. They finally opened the front door for some ventilation right before we were leaving. 3. The server really didn't care that we were there to spend money and barely paid us any attention When he did pay us attention, he was nice enough. 4. Salsa sucked. Mainly because I didn't get a chance to try it since there was a piece of what looked like raw chicken in it. Luckily that popped up on my first (and only) chip. The server did respond to that quickly. 5. On the sign outside they advertise that they have the best fajitas, and that's exactly what I was in the mood for. Got a hot sizzling plate of onions (I asked for no peppers) that were completely raw and burnt (meaning completely charred black) on the edges. Thankfully the steak was cooked before being placed on the plate, but there was absolutely nothing on the steak... no salt, no pepper, no seasoning of any kind. The beans were grossly oily, the rice was over-cooked, the guac was turning brown, and cheese was mexican mix from a bag that you get at a grocery store. I will say the flour tortillas were good. But the only thing that had any flavour at all was the sour cream. And while I hate sour cream, it was the only thing that made the food palatable. 6. In walking out, I scanned all the plates on the other patrons tables. Everything else looked really good, so I'd like to think I just ordered the wrong thing. Again, this place is constantly packed. There has to be a reason for it. 7. I'm now sitting back in my house, STINKING of the smoke coming from the kitchen. I just took a shower before going out, and now have to take another shower to get this s**t off of me. Gross. I tried it. It failed miserably. I won't be going back ever again.

I am a fan of Mexican food and decided to try this place when I had an urge for rice and beans when returning down I70 from a hiking trip. My exit is Federal, so, on a whim, we decided to go in. My friend and I were both really happy that we decided to try this place. I had a very tender chicken dish with rajas (a type of green pepper) and crema. It was VERY good. He had a pork riblet dish with a delicious sauce. The rice, beans and guac accompanying our entrees were quite tasty. Portions were large. I was starting and had enough left over for another full meal the next day. The margaritas weren't the best in town, but they were very good and potent. Our waitress and the bus boy were super friendly (and spoke perfect English, contrary what other reviewers wrote.) We'll definitely go back.

This is a ghetto restaurant attached to a hotel off North Federal, and few of the employees or customers speak English. As other reviewers have stated, do not come in here expecting excellent service. That being said, in my opinion this is probably the BEST Mexican food in all of Denver. My first time here, I was feeling bold and ordered seafood, since they actually pride themselves on fresh seafood. I ordered the "pulpo diablo" (chile octopus) and was surprised to find that it was excellent. It is RARE to find decent seafood at a Mexican restaurant in this town, or even decent beef. Then I tried the homemade flan for desert and it was some of the best I've ever had. On my next visit, I ordered a steak burrito supreme. The meat was good quality and it was packed with at least a half pound of it. On my third visit I ordered carnitas burrito supreme, and there was refried beans mixed in with the meat, but it was very good. Yes, it is possible to screw up refried beans, I have seen it done -- but these were great. And the homemade salsa that comes with the chips is outstanding. Come to this place with low expectations and don't expect to get out of there in a hurry (not a good choice for a half hour lunch break), and I guarantee you'll start becoming a regular customer. Best Mexican food I've had since coming to Denver, at a reasonable price with no frills. I like this place.

We like this restaurant a lot. The food is very good, and the menu has depth you won't find at your typical large "Mexican" restaurant. In addition to the old standbys (combinations, rellenos, enchiladas, tacos, etc.). they have many seafood specialties, plus some great soups (such as posole) and (on weekends) bírria (goat stew). They have a full bar and their own parking lot. They're easy to find - they're just off I-70 on Federal Blvd., right next to the Howard Johnsons. See their full menu at elpadrinomexicanrestaura…

Truly awful! Worst Mexican I've had in Denver. The enchiladas were bland and needed about twice as much cheese. The "red chile" was a joke. It tasted exactly like watered down marinara sauce. The steak in my fiancé's burrito was well seasoned, but the green chile was again bland and runny. Service was also atrocious. The waiter actually rolled his eyes at me when I asked that my enchilada plate be half beef and half chicken. Yeah, we may be gringos but we still know what shit food is. I just wish I would have read the other reviews before throwing away money here.

This is the WORST Mexican restaurant I have been to in the Colorado area so far. Spare yourself and choose another location to have Mexican food (Efrain's, Casa Alvarez, Rio). Where do I even begin? I should have known this place would be horrible when I read the sign on the wall that read, "first order of chips and salsa are complimentary, additional orders will be charged." Absolutely ridiculous!!! This is the first Mexican restaurant that I've been to that had a sign like that on the wall. We ordered guacamole for our chips and salsa and the tomatoes in the guac were old, spongy, and chewy, yuck! I ordered their pork spar ribs, AKA costillitas, and they arrived cold - and so were the beans and rice. I told the server to re-heat the plate in a microwave and he did. The second time they came out they were hot. The whole point of going to a restaurant to have dinner is because you are too lazy to cook.. So why would they serve food that's cold? If I wanted cold food I would have gone to Subway or something... The costillitas were disgusting. Served in a deep red sauce that tasted as though they were straight from a can. The refried beans were horrible too. They put too much oil in them to mash. The ONLY things I did like about the place was their horchata (pretty authentic) and their Mexican rice. Apart from that, I will NOT waste my time again to go to El Padrino. No Thanks. Period.

Went to this place for breakfast. The tables, chairs, booths and floors were all very old and worn. Definitly needed a good wash down and a remodel. There was only one waitress/cashier for the whole restaurant on a Sunday morning. The kids ordered pancakes, Mom ordered French Toast, My brother ordered pork chops and eggs and I ordered a bacon breakfast burrito smothered with green chile and cheese. It took over 45 minutes to get our order. Only two other tables were occupied in the entire restaurant. The pancakes were ok the order came with three and your choice of bacon or sausage. The French toast came with little to go syrup cups. No warm syrup for breakfast here. The burrito I had was cold, the smothered chile was tasteless nothing like I am used to having in DENVER and I was craving it bad!!! The burrito came with lettuce and tomato on it which was not good for breakfast and inside the burrito it was big huge potatoes and slices of bacon. Just too weird! The Pork chop breakfast was slammed down by my brother so I assume it was good...or maybe its just cause my brother slams down everything lol! Overall, I would not visit this place again...It used to be called Las Palmas and back then it had a very bad restaurant rating...I have a horrible feeling the place changed names just to avoid the rating reputation...ewwww

El Padrino is very close to home, so the husband and I have driven past this restaurant several times, wondering about it. Course, we Yelped it, too :) We visited around 2:00 today (Sunday). I ordered a top shelf marg w/ hornitos, no salt - tasted great! Hot sauce is unimaginative but has some zest. Husband ordered the carnitas plate - beans & rice were standard, meat was tender and tasty. I ordered the Despierta "Padrino" Vuelve a la Vida - pretty much what I would call "hell from the depths" (I mean that in a good way). Shrimp, oyster, octopus, scallops and calamari cocktail. YUM! I had one oyster that tasted less-than-fresh but the rest was fantastic. Reminded me of the seafood cocktails I used to grab and run with when I lived on the TX gulf coast. Place was really dead with the exception of a couple of families and a mariachi band who appeared to be playing for their own glorification. First they played - beautifully I might add - in the bar and then they went out on the street. Must have worked, a few others trickled in. Warning signs posted all over the restaurant indicate that they combat vistitors with a lack of patronage. I think they advertise karaoke - I bet that's hilarious! So, overall - it's not to-die-for but it could easily be - and is worthy of being - a local haunt.

Went on a Wednesday evening at 6pm. Was not crowded, the service was good and the food was good and the price was great. We were served more than my wife and I could eat and the price was $20. I have driven past this spot several times over the last 2 years after moving to the North Highlands area and it always seems to have a full parking lot. There is lots of parking with fairly easy access. As a note, if you are headed there by going North on Federal Blvd, you should turn left at the traffic light on 46th, then take the first right [unknown street name] a park will be on your left and houses on your right. At the end of the street turn right again and then an almost immediate left right into their parking lot and you will avoid having to attempt a left turn on busy 4 lanes of Federal.

If I could give negative stars on this app I would. I will be happy if this rating even keeps 1 person from having to go through what I went through at this hole. I have never been treated so poorly and so rudely by someone out on the street, let alone someone trying to earn my patronage. I hope this place closes soon so that someone with a little more tact can make use of their kitchen.

I really have nothing good or bad to say about this place. The atmosphere was so-so, the food wasn't terrible, the staff seemed nice enough. I'd say it was utterly and completely average. Yup, 3 stars sounds just about right.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
