Wish I could give 3.5 stars. Dunbar is a great new anchor business on the burgeoning Welton Corridor. Set in an old house that was most recently a barber shop, it is a very visually interesting space. The front dining room is a bit plain, but walking into the main dining and bar area and the exposed brick and perfect lighting is very welcoming. Menu is yuppified bar food but of better-than-average quality. The service is what really impressed me though, we've had nothing but perfect service over three visits.

If your hesitant about exiting your vehicle in this neighborhood fear not denverites! This hole in the wall is excellent (especially during happy hour from 3:30-6:30). The beer is only 3.50 a pint and I highly suggest the falafel balls. I can honestly say salty balls have never tasted so good. Soon it won't be such a low key hang out so go now while you can still get a seat!

Love this place! Hade the Dad & Dudes Dank IPA, Steak Frites was awesome (actually med-rare, not overdone!), with its rub, fries were great, and the arugula with lemon-thyme vinaigrette was the bomb! Finished with bread pudding which was awesome, and not an oversized portion (which is good, because I'm a sucker for bread pudding and would eat whatever size they brought!) Great music and awesome staff. Will definitely bring friends/colleagues here!

Very pleased that Dunbar opened in our 'hood. I was a bit leery of the food when reading the menu as I thought the food would be of just average bar-type flavor. SO happy that I was wrong! The food is flavorful, plentiful and great tasting. The first time I ordered the steak special which was OUTSTANDING. The second time I had the cheeseburger and the Hubs ordered the fried yard bird. The burger was perfectly flavored - tasted like it came off of your favorite neighbor's grill. The yard bird was mouth watering, juicy goodness. The third time we were there for lunch - pretty good specials: burger, fries and drink for $10. The burger patty was a little on the small side, however the flavor again was fantastic. And they serve sriracha ketchup. Yum. The beer list is not too over reaching and there is a beer that will match anyone's taste. Go check it out!

Excellent upscale bar food is served here. Everything you would expect from a bar and restaurant, but even more. I love the fact they have great veggie options in addition to excellent burgers. I am looking forward to checking out their brunch once it gets going. Their NOT wings are delicious as well. Nice homemade wing sauce! Also, they have an excellent tap selection. I look forward to checking this place out more often.

Great tap selection Killer sand which and salad I need to come back for the 2:30-6:30 happy hour!

Chance are anyone living or working in the Five Points area may be familiar with it's "Food Desert" status. No decent shopping market(the un-Safeway doesn't count) and not many options for even slightly discriminating diners. Yet. This is changing as I write however, so by next week there will likely be five additional brand new places. Ok not next week but you get the gist. I say bravo-it is about time this area matured into what it is now on the fast track to becoming. I stopped in to the new Dunbar recently with a curious mind and an empty stomach and my first impression was nothing short of hesitation. From the street view-the visual not to mention the light rail tracks 5 steps from the door--yikes-it wasn't too inviting. Even after a few steps inside I still wasn't sure-started thinking maybe I back this thing up and cook at home--but for those who soldier on and much to my surprise, Dunbar suddenly blossoms into a cozy exposed-brick-garage door to patio having neighborhood gem. I can see this place quickly becoming a favorite year round spot for many living nearby. Not sure what the front area is about-someone mentioned a chalkboard for kids-wha? and why the place isn't wide open from the door, yada yada but it obviously didn't bother the increasing swell around me. They had a good crowd@ 6 not packed and the service was friendly but quite slow. In their slight defense, they are still in training wheels phase at 5 weeks along. (being "new" is becoming a less and less usable excuse for not quickly stepping up to Denver's boom status and high demands) I agree with some of the other comments about the prices here and ones roi-this is not a cheapie spot. But cheap and questionable have been easy to come by in this area for quite some time (pun intended) so I applaud Dunbar for stepping above the line, and I sincerely hope they can exceed and succeed as they move forward. I had the fried chicken sandwich because everyone around me was raving about theirs. Normally I would order chicken grilled and while Dunbar's fried variation was tasty-in-the-moment, it lacked the serious flavor payoff needed for me to repeat my plunge lips-first into the forbidden calorie and saturated fat zone depths. It had a nice yet too skimpy addition-on the sandwich-of apple slaw...note to chef please add a bit more. (I was not drinking much that night so flavor played a big role in this review) There were a few other tasty sounding offerings I would return to try though, seemingly outside of said zone. After reading other reviews I imagine the savvy owners are well aware of the need for quality and quick service for what they are attempting here and I will definitely return to see how they handle it.

This place is amazing! I've been here a couple of times and every time the service is right on point. Th food is always great!
(5)Danielle S.
Seriously, what a rad place. Kick ass craft beer menu, and some unique plates. The "Not Wings" are a must... fingerling potatoes with hot sauce or chilli sauce. I recommend going half and half. The bartender, Jared, is super great too!
(5)Amy B.
Lackluster. Horrible service. Waited 25 minutes to get a beer. Never received one of our appetizers. Asked for check and waited another 15 minutes.

I've been in a few times for cocktails, dinner, and lunch. So relieved these guys came in to save our 'hood from the "restaurant desert" status. Delicious burgers, fries, and definitely try the French dip w/horseradish aioli side, you will not be disappointed from that or their numerous other lunch & dinner offerings. I guess the only qualm I have is that the menu is setup a bit a la carte style. Bundling sandwiches and main dishes with sides can add up, but well worth the price as the ingredients taste stellar. I've indulged in a few too many manhattans and other delicious cocktails here, the bartenders are on point and do not disappoint. Try one of the many beers on tap while checking out the games on the big screens. Nice decor and sweet patio out back, definitely a neighborhood establishment for the years. I hope other businesses take note and set up shop in the growing Welton corridor.

Made online reservations for Valentines day. Table was set up, the flowers I ordered were waiting for my girl on it. Even made sure we were happy to be seated by the wait staff area. Drink menu was 4/5 with a great selection of local beers on tap and in cans for a very reasonable price. Ordered the Castro, the Dip and a plate of fries. Fries were a 5/5 but the sandwiches is where they really shined. All the food was phenomenal. The meat was moist, the bread spectacular and the dip was wonderful with none of that saltyness you tend to get from other places. The Castro had the perfect balance of young pickles, meat and cheese, and mustard on some of the best bread I've had in a while. I give the food a 10/5 Haven't tried the cocktails yet, but we will be back. Many times and if they put the car into the drinks they put in the food, I'm sure we will love those too. The place itself was amazingly clean and well planned out. For family dining I would make a reservation since there are not many large tables. Perfect place to hit for dinner before heading either downtown or over to crawl the breweries in RiNo.

Ain't yo mamas mule, the Dark and Spicy, and The Dirty Dunbar served up by wonderful Becky and Lindsey!!!! Followed by the freshest D-Line Salad with grilled chicken, maple vinaigrette dressing was like a cherry on top! Great service! Fun bar! Cool menu. Great job folks! Can't wait to come back.
(5)Cassidy T.
Brunch is perfection. I was talked into the chicken and biscuits and oh my, it was perfect. While the bloody Mary's were a bit lack - luster with all the hype, the food is fabulous. I love how they also kept remnants of the barbershop that once occupied the space. Great food, ok drinks, fantastic experience.
(4)Avery B.
Great menu, even for the vegetarians in town (like myself). Definitely a new favorite place for a beer, (or cocktail) and dinner. Welcome to the neighborhood!
(5)Samantha P.
Casual vibes and yummylicious grub! We had a bunch of apps and the fried chicken. Good life choice. .
(5)Seth F.
Overall, a good addition to the neighborhood. As for specifics? The atmosphere is nice, kinda cool, too loud though. The food is kinda mediocre and the whiskey selection just SUCKS. Also, drinks are WAY OVERPRICED. 3 stars overall.
(3)Gina R.
Love this new neighborhood place! Awesome food, great drinks and great staff! Just like their tag line - food IS legit...we started with the not-wings and had shrimp poboy, strip and dip...so many other things we can't wait to try! Yum!
(5)Spike E.
What a lovely time I had in this beautiful place! The service was great and I knew my bartender was going to rock due to her awesomely risqué hair cut! I very much dug it. Then their beer selection was stellar with one of my home town breweries on draft. The price point was very reasonable and the happy hour deals were great. Wish it was closer to my home but I will be back to try the actual menu and not just the happy hour!
(5)Alex M.
This restaurant is one of the best finds in Denver right now. The food, service, and ambiance are exceptional. They had a great beer selection, including the Dank IPA from Dad's and Dude's Breweria, which I haven't seen on tap yet anywhere. Was very excited to see that, as well as their support for the Colorado community in their local beer and food, as well. Definitely returning soon!
(5)Tegan W.
My boyfriend and I live nearby so we decided to check it out on a Tuesday night. it wasn't busy which was awesome. The ambiance is cool with exposed brick and lots of wood. We had excellent service. Lots of beers to choose from, I had no idea you could now get Agave in cans! I ordered a cheeseburger which was delicious and my bf had a french dip. We also ordered a side of fries and apple slaw, so good, yum yum. We will definitely be coming back :)
(5)Kristen M.
We just happened across this place on Open Table while traveling from Boulder to Denver, and I couldn't be happier that we did. I was there on Sunday, for brunch, and it was a real pleasure. Our waitress was refreshingly friendly and extraordinarily helpful. The food was delicious and the outdoor porch, in the back, was beautiful. I will definitely return to Dunbar the next time we're in Denver!!
(5)Annie E.
Love it! Great service and great food! They've just added some great items to their menu and extended their happy hour hours. The reason I gave it 4 and not 5 stars is because If you want French fries with your sandwich, they charge $2.50! Ouch. It shouldn't be so much. Many drinks very expensive- too expensive-drop the price a dollar here and there and it's perfect. Other than that, go!
(4)Steve H.
Top marks for wonderful food that was such a surprise of creative flavors. Our table had several apps and different entrees and all of it was spectacular. Well done!
(5)Cheri S.
Excellent! Shared the shrimp Po boy and the Roast beef..... Can't say enough great things. Beer selection is vast and if you have room for dessert... The peanut butter Oreo pie is to die for!
(5)Brian G.
Cool place, good food. I wish the people working the bar area would be cool with not talking obnoxiously loud nonstop. Other than that, this place rocks.
(4)Sonic Tooth Ž.
Fantastic staff! Good selection of booze and beer. Also recommend the D-line salad! Happy we finally have a great neighborhood bar!
(5)Yelping Y.
Food was excellent and the service was impeccable! I ordered the veggie sandwich and added their coleslaw. This was hands down the BEST veggie sandwich I've ever had!!! Angela took care of us at the bar and she was such a sweetheart. She made this little gem of a bar shine that much more. Highly recommend!!!!
(5)Festus B.
We have been going to Dunbar religiously for a couple months. Can't say enough good things about this spot, great selection of beers and the hand crafted cocktails are amazing. I have only had a couple things on the menu and they were killer. All the good folks working here are super cool and make you feel right at home the way you should feel in a neighborhood establishment. Great happy hour too.
(5)Sarah R.
Let me just start by saying the food, and the service were very good. The atmosphere is cool and I'm sure that once the patio is open, this will be a fun addition to the neighborhood (I live about 6 blocks away). My main point of contention here are the prices. $9 for a Bloody Mary. That is steep, no matter what. It's even worse when there is nothing but cheap mix, vodka and a decent pickle in it. Next is the food. I ordered the $13 Yard Bird sandwich. That comes with no side - just the sandwich. It was tasty, don't get me wrong, but the B Side on 17th is essentially serving the exact same sandwich, for $10 with a choice of salad or fries. A side salad here is $4...fries are $4 as well (enough to share for sure, but still). I am not cheap, I love to try new places, especially ones within walking distance...but I just think these guys are going to need to come down on their prices in order to make it. I am not going to rush back here...and that makes me sad.
(3)Jennifer L.
I'm so happy to have Dunbar in the neighborhood. The beer selection is great, parking is not a challenge and they have a kids menu - SOLD! I've been here with and without my family and have really enjoyed the atmosphere. Becky at the bar is great. She was adept at steering me toward cocktails I wouldn't normally try and they didn't disappoint. I'm excited to see the restaurant continue to grow and evolve.
(4)Darren M.
I loved this place as soon as I walked in! Pretty modern decor with concrete and wood abounding. It was the first place I stopped while staying downtown for some CRB shows at Cervantes. The staff were super friendly, knew their beer and had good selections in bottle, can and on tap. The food was great too! The dishes aren't full blown meal size - think lunch portions, but delicious. I thought for the price the quality and amount of food was perfect. I'll definitely be back next time I'm in Denver!
(4)Vanitha C.
Went to Dunbar Kitchen while visiting Denver from California. Love the place, friendly and excellent service. I ordered a shot of Breckenridge whiskey and the owner came up personally with it and offered a taste of the Breckenridge bitters. It was a great experience and the food was great.
(5)William D.
Great decor, good layout. Looking forward to seeing the completed patio. The Castro was very good and the cocktails / beer / wine menu was thoughtful and featured Colorado beers / spirits throughout.
(5)J S.
This neighborhood is so starved for a restaurant that this place deserves four stars??? We stopped in for a drink after our dinner. The makeshift hostess was exactly that, zero personality. That is the first impression of your restaurant, hire a hostess. Friday and Saturday, have adequate staffing. One bartender for the entire place and the bar when it's packed to the limit? We walked out.
(1)Alex D.
50th review! Cool spot! Wholesome looking crowd in this diamond in the rough. Nice location across from light rail with a cool patio. Heard some regulars raving about the garlic aioli...so bring that back, I guess! Happy hour goes til 630 and is pretty decent: $3.50 pints and some glasses of wine. Decent food menu to boot!
(5)Lauren S.
Got a coupon in the mail from Dunbar so figured we should check it out! It was great for lunch on a beautiful Denver afternoon. My husband and I split the chicken sandwich and a big salad. Everything was fresh and served quickly. Our server was very nice and helpful and our bill was $10 after our coupon. Will definitely be back!
(5)Leigh K.
I live in the neighborhood & just saw that this place had moved in. I popped in tonight right before closing to check it out & it was pretty cool! They have a great local beer selection & full bar. There is a full kitchen, too! The staff was friendly, which is important to me. I will definitely be here again (probably a lot)!
(5)Kyle G.
I've been here a couple time, between the food and drink I haven't been let down yet. can't wait to try the back patio out once it warms up.
(4)James L.
This bellwether of Welton Street is a promising upscale pub and eatery. Great cocktail menu and tap selections, and the service for all four visits was excellent. I'm thrilled to have this place in the neighborhood. If there's a catch it's the price. My $15 sandwich was undeniably delicious, but the $4 fries came out flaccid, soggy and mediocre. When you're charging $19 for what is essentially a blue-plate special it better be faultless. It was only a matter of time before food prices followed real estate prices in the area. I just hope they keep the quality and service at the levels needed to justify these prices.
(4)Natalie B.
Great place! Super cool atmosphere, nice folks, and fantastic food!! Check this place out, highly recommended!
(5)Trish G.
i just got home from another enjoyable experience at Dunbar Kitchen and Tap House. The food menu is small, interesting and high quality. The prices reasonable. The drink selection was excellent. Friendly with great vibe and ambiance, especially in the bar section. The front section was a little loud, but maintained a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. I like this little place.
(5)Trevor B.
Great to have this new local bar on Welton. Welcome!
(4)Nancy W.
not great, would not go back
(1)Kiley C.
Their veggie burger is made in house and is AMAZING. All of the sides and apps we split as a table were great and everyone else loved their sandwiches. Service was good, especially for only being open a week when we went. I am excited for brunch and when the patio opens up.
(5)Amy M.
We visited this great spot last weekend with friends. The staff is most attentive and fun at the same time! The food was fabulous. We are thrilled to see a new restruant on this side of Five Points. We will be regulars!
(5)Sarah G.
I stopped into Dunbar today to order a sandwich to go. I ordered the Castro, which was delicious! It was a nice sized sandwich, definitely worth the $. I'm looking forward to going back again for their happy hour. Glad to have them in the neighborhood!
(5)Susan B.
I went to this place for lunch today and found 1) they are overpriced for the area, 2) the food was mediocre, 3) drinks over priced. The Walnut Room, only a few blocks from here is far better in terms of food and ambience. If 5 points's aim is to gentrify this is not the way to do it. I won't bother going here again when there are so many other places in the area that far exceed this one.
(2)Annie W.
We just went in for the dinner for the second time. Our first visit was very shortly after opening, and I would say they have really hit their stride. There was a decent crowd early on a snowy Sunday, but the service was friendly and fast. Most importantly, everything we ordered was delicious. Surprisingly good. Great flavors, fresh tasting, and great portion sizes. This place is definitely going to be a neighborhood standard, but I also think the food and beer list are worth a trip across town.
(5)Ryan G.
We love the new bar in the neighborhood. The food was terrific (we got a Cuban sandwich and salads), and my wife will not stop talking about the slaw. The staff was very friendly and attentive, the prices were reasonable, and we will definitely be going back.
(5)Marcus R.
The place across the tracks and I mean really across the tracks is Dunbar Kitchen and Tap House. I never thought in a million years I'd be reviewing a place that had another life and like the proverbial phoenix has risen from the old and cast away part of 5 Points or as we knew it then....the "points"! While I maybe waxing nostalgic about what was and now, what is and now it's rebirth. Dunbar is cool and I say that because during the early years in the points it was; YES, a Barber Shop and YES you could get "Be-Bop" and "Straight No Chaser" just down the street at the Rossonian and now I can get my grub on at Dunbar! So let's get down to cases....it's across the track, it's a former Barber Shop and a house in back and the new owners have restored the life of the old timbers to create an amazing bar and payed respect by keeping the old Dunbar s Barber Shop Sign just outside the kitchen...see I told you it was cool! And now the food...right? So after a hearty welcome by Becky one of the owners we sat down at her bar and began to relax, turn off phone(sort of) and drink in the creativity. Becky and her staff were flawless from the kitchen to the bar, everyone seemed like a big family and we were at Becky house and I was just fine with that. The HH menu is great and time is generous from 2:30 pm till 6:30 pm. The menu is soulful in a worldly way, from hush puppies with Anson Mills cornmeal to a Asian pork sliders and Chicaronnes DK style. The portions are just right and as we sat, we had serious eyes for other amazing dished coming out of the kitchen. Now we were only there for HH but we decided right then that we're coming back and bringing friends so we can really check out the rest of the amazing smelling menu. So in closing, I'll leave with this. You'll be happy, stuffed, relaxed and if you gaze upon the spirits behind the bar you'll know that Dunbar is a step ahead of its competition and judging by how the staff treats the bar, it's far from the standard offerings and that alone should make you come back.....if not, just for the music and if you listen carefully you'll hear Becky signing along!
(5)Darja P.
This place is great! We sat outside on the patio and enjoyed their Monday all-day happy hour and dinner. Our waitress was Elise, and she was probably the best waitress I've ever had anywhere. She was friendly and approachable, but not overbearing, and gave good food suggestions. There were three of us, and each of us loved our food. Can't wait to come back!
(5)Danny G.
I live a few blocks away so I come here often. The staff is always super friendly and accommodating. They have daily specials that are always worth it, and the beer selection is on point. Cool back patio when the weather is nice, too.
(5)Laura M.
Pros + The food was delicious, and so were the cocktails + Generous outdoor space (with a no-smoking patio) + Cozy decor + Great beer list and beer prices + Location (their location may not be a pro to some, but it's in my neighborhood.) + Super friendly staff Cons - Everything (except on the beer list) seemed a few dollars too expensive for what it was. For example, if I'm paying $13 for a cocktail (cocktails range from $9-$14), I'm typically expecting specialty ice, a unique garnish, something along those lines. You don't get that with their cocktails. For that price, I'd rather go to Colt & Gray or another high-end, cocktail-focused bar. Similarly, for the price, you're going to get much more artful and unique dishes nearby at The Populist. That being said, everything was still really delicious. I'm just not sure it's comparable. Overall, I'm sure I'll go back (especially to check out brunch), but the verdict is still out on whether or not this will make the regular rotation.
(4)Reese D.
They have a corner on the market in this area right now. A few improvements can get them to 5 stars and make sure they can stay after all the other trendy restaurants move in. They have a cool venue. Dark and cozy inside. Bright and cheery large patio. Decent CO beer list (a MUST anymore). Service was friendly, but a bit scattered. We weren't sure who our server was. They might have been sharing duties. Not having a dedicated server can cause many problems. One of which happened to us: given the wrong check twice. *shrug* Some interesting sounding items on the menu, but presentation was pretty basic. If you have any restaurant experience, you know right away these are line cook assembled and not chef prepared. Tom Colicchio would have a heart attack if he saw the use of boneless, skinless chicken breasts! That all being said, the food was flavorful and as described on the menu. I'm still giving it 4 stars because my expectations were too high. They call themselves a "kitchen" and "tap house" and they were absolutely those things! I would also give it another shot if in the area again.
(4)Alissa R.
Man oh man, is the staff friendly here. I always feel like i'm dining with a friend even when I'm dining alone. They also happen to have a favorite staple of mine, pimento cheese (and it's served with a bacon/onion jam)! And my lifelong love affair with potatoes gets some fun action with the 'Not Wings'- fingerling potatoes doused in hot wing sauce or a sweet and spicy sauce-ask for half and half, thank me later. The brunch is pretty great as well, take the Mexican Eggs & Potatoes, two fried eggs over Mexican spiced breakfast potatoes and black beans served with roasted salsa, sour cream, and green onions. Super hearty and a steal at $7. The drinks are always strong, thumbs up. This place overall leaves you feeling well taken care of, I'll definitely be back for more of that comfort.
(4)Paul K.
Just stopped by for an afternoon drink. Good service, cool place, great place for a lazy afternoon. So great to have Dunbar in the neighborhood!!
(5)Bernadette C.
It is a super chill place to eat. The breakfast was outright amazing and we were quickly served. The server constantly checked in on us. Although my wife and I weren't in the drinking mood- they definitely had plenty of drafts and brews. They alcohol menu seemed to be unique. If we were in town longer this would have been our breakfast joint everyday. Their morning menu wasn't overloaded with option. I ordered the pulled pork with an over easy egg on top, orgasmic in my mouth!!!!
(5)Demitri R.
Where to Start?? They have a Nice beer list. And Happy Hour as well. I ordered the Shrimp Po Boy and Fries. The Shrimp you could tell were fresh and not of the frozen grocery store variety. The sandwich had a nice twist with the sauce. And a Crunch that added to it nicely. The Fries didnt disappoint. My first drink was a Twist on the Moscow mule. Yummly. I had to Follow it up with Bread Pudding. You knew that was coming. It was a Caramel Bread pudding. Very Tasty. I left satisfied. They have brunch on sundays. I think Saturdays too. I shall be back.
(5)Rachel T.
Great food, great drinks, great service, and great atmosphere! What else is there to say?? Oh, it doesn't hurt that it's *right* on the lightrail, too. Went in last night with a couple friends, and had the Not-Wings - as a vegetarian, I could FINALLY eat some "wings" type snacks, without an insanely processed foundation. The not wings are potatoes! But still, served with celery, wing sauce, and blue cheese. Perfection! They have a vegetable dish on the menu that's usually served as a sandwich, but I had it on grits instead...and let me tell you what! That was The Bomb, officially. The fun didn't stop there....I got some amazing brioche bread pudding for dessert, and it was awesome. I left fat, happy, and a tiny bit tipsy. I would recommend this place for *anyone*. It's super chill - nice patio out back, far enough away from the downtown crowd to keep it real.
(5)Sophie V.
Dunbar has a good environment, decent prices and great food. The burger was delicious (though I would order it medium rare next time) and their old fashioned was delicious. Best of all the staff was really friendly and helpful.
