Bed and Breakfasts aren't really my thing and this was my first experience. I did think that this was an excellent Bed and Breakfast. The owner is lovely. The food was amazing. The decor is certainly unique and interesting. Each room is fashioned in a different way and has a different name. Everything was very clean and well kept up. The garden area was a delight. I have a slight awkward feeling socializing first thing in the morning with random strangers so I'm used to more of the hotel stays in different cities but if you like meeting new people and bed and breakfasts are your thing, you'll really love this place!

Such a beautiful place. My boyfriend and I visited for one night while in Denver, and we had a great time. We reserved the Tower room, and they had about 5 journals filled with other visitors' previous experiences. Some of these dated all the way back to the early nineties! I have one complaint: the wonderful lady running the front desk advertised nighttime tea and cookies, but when we stopped in the living area (at around the hour she stated) for tea, there was none. I'm pretty sure there was tea originally, but it had not been restocked. So we tried the Keurig, but it was broken. :( Otherwise, the staff was wonderful, and breakfast was delicious! I would definitely visit again.

Hospitality is an art form here. Never have we felt so pampered, cared for and all in a magical little Victorian retreat surrounded by gardens. Downtown, theater music, all within walking distance- park your car and start exploring some of the best has to offer: botanical gardens just to the north, downtown and theater district to the west, really wonderful historic neighborhood and buildings all around. This place is the best, the owners are delightful, and the staff was terrific. We will be back.

As a disclaimer I have not been lucky enough to be able to splurge and stay at Castle Marne. I did get to visit this B&B as part of Doors Open Denver. I've passed by this historic building many many times and was lucky to get the chance to snoop around inside. The inside is very nice, with pretty stained glassed windows. The B&B feels very cozy, good for a romantic getaway or some TLC stress-free "me" time. I got to meet the owners who were super nice rather than business minded people trying extremely hard to sell me a stay at the place.

Recently stayed one night. They had a dinner option available. It was prepared by a local excellent chef and served in a professional manner. It provided a variety of tastes, textures and food not all previously exposed to my palate. It was also normal foods not the bone marrow and oyster patte on a cracker that some chefs think is great stuff. The inn is unique and the rooms were quiet and ours had a private outdoor hot tub. The hosts were very friendly and parking was available. If I am in Denver again it will be my place of choice.

I stayed here last summer with my then-girlfriend, now-wife on our trip to Denver; she had chosen it as a surprise for my birthday and I'm glad she did, it was an overall great choice. We had one of the smaller rooms (possibly the smallest room) facing the front entrance. In terms of comfort and amenities , it wasn't the top of the pops but it also makes no attempt to climb that particular ladder. It's a historic, antique mansion with a cool history (same architect as the famous Unsinkable Molly Brown house) and really impressive architecture. To top it off, it was extremely affordable compared to some hotel choices in way noisier areas and this whole deal includes a fantastic breakfast (it's a B&B, lest ye forget). 1) The building itself is a beauty; worth taking tons of cool photos of in different lighting throughout the day .The little yard outside is particularly attractive in the night-time and is a cool place to wind down. The common area / living room inside is amusing too with some vintage trinkets to check out. 2) Location was fantastic for our purposes. Close enough to downtown or other areas if you're looking to order a cab or use the Denver B-cycle bikeshare program which we did. There's a B-cycle station about a block and a half away on E 17th St. 3) While we're talking about E 17th, you're walking distance to a decent selection of bars, coffee shops and restaurants. Vine Street Pub and Brewery and the Thin Man are particularly fantastic choices. Likewise if you walk a block south to E Colfax you've got some choices for food and entertainment there as well. Also, a Rite Aid which came in very handy during our stay. Walking distance to City Park and to the Botanical Gardens. Ok, enough about location. 4) Breakfast was always delicious , and did not get repetitive in our five day stay. Everyone staying is generally friendly (you get tossed in the fray, so you'd better be) so that could be an experience of it's own. We are in our mid-20s and were by far the youngest people staying ,it seemed with the exception of one couple we met during our stay. It's a boutique bed and breakfast, what do you expect? 5) Staff was friendly all throughout, can't commend this aspect enough. 6) The security system is fairly cool but the area is safe. On the inevitable next journey to Denver, while I'd like to try to stay somewhere new, it's just too tempting to not highly consider returning to Castle Marne.

Quaint little bed and breakfast in the Denver area. Our room was spacious and had a hot tub. Relatively quiet and couldn't really hear that much noise even though there was a wedding going on. Breakfast was good and they accommodated my strict gluten allergy. Staff was nice and friendly and all introduced themselves as we walked around. Great little restaurants all within walking distance.

Disappointed. The good: gregarious staff, homemade pastries, rich history, nicely decorated, communal breakfast, free parking. The bad: it's worn down, historic and old does not have to mean dowdy (paint chipping off, dead flowers in planters, corners of floors questionable), no a/c meant a miserable night even with windows open, toiletries are 2nd class, computer to get boarding passes is truly archaic, and although the parties were good, they were the only remarkable part of breakfast, linens so-so. I was expecting more. Have stayed at better B & B in Denver that were better. I thought Marne was the best. YMMV.

I had the most wonderful experience staying at Castle Marne for business. The Castle itself is an historic treasure. Gorgeous and spectacular as a structure but also comfortable, friendly and warm. The service, bed, room, food, bath, parlor, people- nothing could have been better. The family that owns the place makes you feel like a treasured guest and a dear family friend all at the same time. Just the right amount of luxury and warmth combined with delicious food (breakfast, tea time, and bedtime cookies) all lend themselves to a tremendous experience. I was there for business and enjoyed every bit of the location including walkability to delicious restaurants and fantastic Denver sites like the Denver Art Museum and Clifford Still Museum (although I'd recommend taking a cab back). Perfect cappuccinos are only a couple blocks from the Castle. Plus you get to learn about the rich history of late 19th century architecture of the movers and shakers of old Denver. Thank goodness for the family who has rescued and been maintaining this fabulous BnB since the late 80s. Can't wait to go back and take my family next time.

Wonderful experience here. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Owner Jim is talkative and full of history. Minor problem with shower drip when we checked in, so they moved us to nicer room when it couldn't be fixed immediately. Breakfast of quiche Lorraine was very good. House is actually mansion built by same architect as, and with same floor plan as that of Molly Brown's mansion.

Wonderful and very unique B&B in a great location in Denver. Tried to find "boutique" hotels as we passed through Denver and almost all others were just upscale fancy hotels with no real character. I guess the word boutique has lost some of its meaning. But in our search we found this gem. The owners and the staff are just a delight. We are not usually B&B type of people, but really liked this historic place. The building is very unique and charming, and we would highly recommend it for anyone who does not want a sterile hotel room. There are various rooms to choose from depending on your taste and likes, the room we stayed in (Tower) was very comfortable and pleasant. We ended up extending our stay for an extra day. The breakfast is a delight. Don't miss it if you get a chance.

The only reason I give it a four out of five is because the room was a little small--but that shouldn't deter anyone from staying here. The owners are so sweet (their little girl actually checked us in--it was so cute!) and welcoming. It was awesome to have the hot tub out on the balcony. Even though it was in the middle of downtown Denver and could have been completely submerged in the noises and chaos of sirens and traffic, it isn't at all. It was one of the most relaxing weekends I have ever had with my fiance. I have never slept so well or felt so relaxed, and it was a five minute drive from our apartment. Got the stay from my parents for my birthday and I would go back any time. Having breakfast with a bunch of strangers seemed scary at first, but it was honestly so much fun to get to know people and just enjoy the company of others. The food was good and the company was amazing. Also, getting to write in one of the many books left in the room was so sweet and endearing. Sat there reading over past notes with my fiance for quite a while (DO IT! You will cry!) Whether you live in Colorado or anywhere else, stopping through on a road trip, stay at Castle Marne, even if it is for only one night. You will never know a more peaceful sleep, and greater company.

I know I tend to idealize/romanticize the past sometimes, and must do it once again now. So, back when Castle Marne was an apartment building, a friend/boyfriend of mine lived there briefly. Reasonable rent, reasonably cool boyfriend, and one awesome apartment. And now Castle Marne is a friendly, hospitable, and lush Bed & Breakfast. Comfortable and nicely furnished rooms, breakfasts fit for royalty, good tea, and reasonable prices. They do special events, as do most Bed & Breakfasts, and their yard areas seem like they would be perfect for weddings and such. I was here in the midst of a past deep snowy winter, so the entirety of the yard was not visible, but it still looked perfect for events! Mostly though, I still remember the nice comfortable room, the clean, dignified, and well-equipped bathroom, and the sincere kindness of the owner(s) who checked me in during a blizzard, late at night, when I was not able to drive home to Boulder and needed to stay somewhere near where my car got stuck. Happenstance; and what a fortunate accident of fate!!

I think the earlier reviews were fairly accurate. We enjoyed our stay here at the castle Marne. the staff was very nice, and they seem to have toned down some of negative behaviors criticized in earlier reviews. This family run business is an example of enthusiastic proprietors marketing to their guests while attempting to give excellent service. The repeated asking for positive reviews on TripAdvisor was borderline obnoxious. Hopefully they will learn that reviews come from the heart and shouldn't be asked for. Excellent experiences lead to excellent reviews voluntarily. Overall this bread and breakfast was very charming, the staff accommodating, and the food was very good. We enjoyed it for one night. The room (Melissa's) was small, yet comfortable. We felt it was a good value through Priceline. Melissa really went above and beyond to get us a reservation for dinner in a great suggested restaurant (Parallel Seventeen - check my review on this restaurant) when we checked in after 9 pm. She had made several calls to other places but was not able to get us a table on a very busy night. She persisted and seemed to have a strong knowledge of the local eateries and have name rapport with their staff. We had a wonderful meal.

This is the most desirable bed and breakfast that I ever been to in my life. It is absolutely amazing. With a complimentary early meal that was just deliciously homemade from scratch including homemade muffins, jellies, jams, orange and cranberry juice, coffee, and a lovely arrangement of fruits topped by edible flowers. The place is run by a family who lives nearby and comes over to offer plenty of fun places to visit and the best way to drive there. Inside is comparable to a museum in that it has sets of teacups and teapots, floral patterned couches, antiques of sterling silver, newspapers from all over the town, wooden cabinets filled with china, a piano, and photographs of family. When you come in, it's almost like you are inside a dollhouse and you're about to have tea. Just memorable! I will never forget this visit as long as I live. I never felt more invited in my life. They offered water as I came in unused to the altitude of Denver air. I was floored by the intricate assortment of wooden furniture and cushioned chairs and the design of the walls and choice of the flowers in their garden. In addition, they have a hot tub in your room(well my room did have one), so I got to see the stars in warm 95 degree warmness as the temperature drops off at night. I love the view outside. It was just a grand time!

Best place I've stayed in Denver, and probably best place I've stayed anywhere else. This bed and breakfast is great! My girlfriend and I came here because she loves old buildings and with this building being built in 19th century, it certainly qualifies. It's perfect for a romantic weekend in Denver. We had the Presidential suite which has a great reading nook, a private balcony for warm weather, a jacuzzi, king sized bed and separate bathroom. A lot of the furniture reflects how the building appeared when it was first built. Inside the room are a pamphlet describing the history of the building and a binder describing Denver's history. Reading over Denver's history was neat just days before its sesquicentennial. As for other areas of the house, there's a great parlor where they serve tea and cookies - fantastic cookies by the way. It's a great place to sit and meet other guests. There was a player piano downstairs which was a lot of fun to play around with. The owner personally showed us how to set it up and "play" it and then even treated us to sing along. If the rest of the rooms are open, go explore them too. There are some neat finds around the house. I mentioned the free tea and cookies earlier, which were delicious, but breakfast was even better. It was an egg-based family recipe that everyone really enjoyed. The husband-and-wife owners are great people. They were very nice, very helpful, and very informative. The husband seems like he'd be a fun grandpa. Cool fact: The dining room is listed in the national registry of historic places, so if the owners want to do any changes to the dining room, it takes an act of Congress to allow the change. If you want to go to a romantic bed and breakfast in Denver, you cannot go wrong with Castle Marne.

We spent a long weekend here a few weeks ago. the staff was great the room was just OK. There was no A/C and no TV in the room or the hotel. We were not real impressed with the breakfast the first day(quiche) and we were ready for something differant the second day. But we got quiche again, we then skipped the last days breakfast and went into town to get something else. The staf was very nice and helped with directions and history of Denver. The stay was overall OK but after a long day shoping and walking around town a little A/C would have been nice. The downstairs of the house was a little over stuffed and you only have access to two rooms. All and All OK but for the price I paid I expected a few more amenities. Denver as a city was great.

My husband surprised me with a visit to Castle Marne on a holiday, and I was absolutely thrilled when I realized we'd be staying there. The building looks so cool! Inside, it is also very nice, with lots of things to look at and discover. It was a wonderfully romantic trip, and I'm glad we stayed there, but there were a few drawbacks: *As another reviewer has noted, there is no air conditioning that I'm aware of. This was not a problem for us because we visited during cold weather, but it could be miserable during the summer. Avoid getting a room on the top floor or on the west or south side if visiting during warm weather. *The homemade cookies and tea in the evening are a nice touch, and I thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the beautiful parlor drinking my tea from a nice china cup, but the cookies weren't that great. Not bad, but nothing to commend. Tasted like they'd been sitting around a couple of days. *Having breakfast at a table with strangers was a little uncomfortable, but it was an interesting experience. However, the food was disappointing and not very plentiful. It wasn't awful, but you sure wouldn't go out of your way to eat here. *The owners, a multi-generational family, are very pleasant and friendly, but they are maybe just a little TOO friendly. I enjoyed hearing the history of the house and how they restored it, but one guy just talked and hung around a little too much. And he kept asking us to go to a particular website to leave a favorable review. (When I said I would probably leave a review on Yelp instead, he said, "I don't really have any use for that.") He got awkwardly persistent about it, bringing it up every time we saw him (including when he had everyone as a captive audience at the breakfast table). After one conversation with him, he said he had a "very special gift" for us, which turned out to just be a directory of other bed and breakfasts. He made a big production of it, as if he were doing us a huge favor giving it to us. This also came during breakfast, making us feel obligated to stop eating and pretend to peruse and admire his "gift" as he stood over the table supervising everyone. And during the meal, his tween daughter talked incessantly to the table. At first it was kind of cute and charming, but then it got a little obnoxious, especially when it became obvious that it was a "performance" with canned remarks. At one point she even got a little bit rude, remarking to a middle-aged guest, "You were alive when there were dinosaurs, right?" However, despite these things, I'm very glad we stayed at Castle Marne instead of at a cookie-cutter hotel. It was so romantic, my husband scored BIG points with me by taking me here.

This is a very friendly family-owned b&b with no shortage of beauty and history. I stayed in Melissas room and while the room itself was nice, the castle was worth it in itself, let alone the awesome garden they have. Location was great, close to the vine street brewpub and other dining and entertainment venues, minus the traffic. I was able to get a reasonable rate using a hotel search website but it was brought to my attention that not all profits go to the bed and breakfast when one books with a resource such as expedia or hotels.com . I would encourage anyone staying in Denver to look at Castle Marne, especially when the rates are comparable to a vanilla and impersonal holiday inn express.
