Great service, great food. What else is there to say? Oh, and the Sunday happy hour is great too!

This place has an amazing happy hour, with sushi that's worth paying full price for. The customer service is generally okay to good, but not great, or I would give it 5 stars all the way!

AWESOME. I mean, it's a block from Hapa, and survives, so that says something right there. We had dinner with friends and it was great. Even some of the more out there rolls like the Machu Pichu, were tasty! My mouth is watering right now thinking about running downtown. The staff was awesome, sushi was top notch, definitely a great place. An awesome and welcome addition to 16th St.

Came here on a Sunday for lunch. We were the only. people. in. the. place. It was odd. Maybe it's just my girlfriend and I that crave rolls after church...whatever. I do have to start off with the bad. The music was horrendous. It was loud, bumping techno remixes. It was 1 pm on a Sunday, and as I stated, we were the only ones there. It was not Saturday night at 9 pm, and it really kind of made the experience weird for us. The other negative was the bathroom. It was wicked dark in there! It also smelled kinda gross....like a Saturday night bar, in fact. My third boo was the vegetarian lettuce wraps. They were odd. Noodles, big balls of wasabi, some sauce, shredded carrots, and cucumbers. Skip 'em if you're thinking of ordering. But, for the good, that's why we're at three stars. The rolls were delish! We arrived for happy hour, which wasn't what we were expecting, so that was pleasant. We had the Philly, the super asparagus, and the tidal wave. They were all great. They also all had cream cheese. Oops. The bartender makes seriously legit martinis. We both had one and they rocked, I can't imagine anything from that drink menu being bad. It was a typical LoDo place...I mean, it felt like a dance club on a Sunday afternoon, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. But it was tasty. I'd go back now that I know what to expect.

Delicious and creative sushi at Blue!! I definitely prefer this place over Hapa. Fantastic late night happy hour with some of the best martinis in Denver. The customer service is very good. I was once here with a group of friends for late night happy hour, we were having a really good time and didn't realize how late it was getting. We were the last table left but never once were pressured to leave- in fact just the opposite, our server encouraged us to stay as long as we wished and enjoy ourselves. This is my go-to spot for a great night. Thanks Blue!

I've been here a few times now and the decor is really nice inside the restaurant. The staff is also really nice and has always been attentive. The prices on sushi aren't so bad either. If you aren't looking for some of the best sushi in the metro you will enjoy this place. The music is pretty loud so don't expect easy intimate conversations here. However I don't get to eat sushi often so when I do I like to get really high quality sushi and thats where this place slips a bit. It isn't bad by any means but it isn't on par with say Aoba, Sushi Den, or Rice, etc. If you want to go somewhere and get a few drinks and munch on some decent sushi that won't empty your wallet this is the place to go.

The sushi was great and affordably priced! We were just passing through, on our way across the country. It was a perfect find. We were very satisfied and would recommend it to anyone.

From the bartenders to the wait staff to the gm's (John is the man) and the good this place is on point. If you are looking for some top notch sushi, this is the place to go. The happy hour is phenomenal and it's all day in Sunday! They also have great specials besides sushi. The sea bass is great. Tip...great place for birthdays, the waiter Nathan sings opera! Go now!

YUM! Pros: Creative sushi. Great happy hour deals, including all day Sunday. The service was excellent. Last night, we grabbed dinner at another local joint, and the service was terrible. And then today, Nick made us feel like it was his life mission to make sure we had a good time. Which is important when you are spending $$ on sushi. Our faves: calamari app (sooo tender), Hawaiian roll (we didn't know we would like it and then we LOVED it), and Philadelphia roll. Oh, and seared white tuna nigiri. YUM. Cons: Nothing special for birthdays, which kind of sucks if your main birthday celebration is a sushi date. (Just a scoop of green tea ice cream or something would be cheap/special.) Spicy tuna is usually our fave, and we didn't love it here. Would probably skip that next time for something else. Can't wait to try: crab cakes, gyoza, more Hawaiian rolls. :) Also, we went during the day, so can't say too much about "date night atmosphere," but it seemed nice. Thanks again, Nick! (Managers: keep this guy around.)

Sushi was fabulous! Great happy hour prices. Service was poor. We asked that the server (Tanya) come to our table before happy hour ended as we probably wanted to order more food. She didn't. The manager was very attentative and managed to get an order in for us with HH prices. We had to ask a few times for empty plates to be taken away from our very crowded table.

My boyfriend and I visited this neat spot for lunch. First off, we checked in on yelp! for free edamame!! The server quickly brought cucumber water and menus for us. The 2 rolls for $12 lunch special was our choice for an inexpensive and healthy lunch. Delicious and fresh sushi with a friendly and attentive staff in a pleasant and clean environment...we thoroughly enjoyed our experience. The manager even came by to ensure we were enjoying our meal. Awesome place!!

Took extended family and friends to lunch, ran about $20/person, but absolutely every dish was loved by all who tried it. We had sushi (Nigiri and Sashimi), tempura, coconut crab soup, ceviche, crab cakes, saki, and more. Service was fast and friendly. It is a little loud once it gets crowded, but the noise level is tolerable. Definitely will eat here again.

I'm am definitely a fan... although the last 2 times I was here, they had The Last Samurai playing on the TVs. Tom Cruise is not a exactly pormote an appetite. However, I would eat their shishito peppers cooked in butter and soy on everything, every day, even with Tom Cruise watching me. Blue is an absolutely solid happy hour destination! On our last trip for HH we ordered shishito peppers, rangoons, gyoza, a cocktail and 2 rolls for $26. I prefer to sit at the bar and have a cocktail mixed or share some sake. My daughter is in love with their crab mango rangoons. These are not the typical (previously frozen) greasy, hard rangoons served at other Asian restaurants around town where you throw away the dry portions lacking filling/flavor. These wrappers are filled by hand with the lovely creamy mixture. How do I know? Well, Lex loves those gross greasy ones which is why she ordered them at Blue... I mean loved, Lex USED to love those funky rangoons but after having the creation at Blue, no more we will we order the gross ones. She was gushing to our server about them and we got an ear full on how they are prepared. The Dr. is very picky about his sushi having done his research in Berkeley. He is also a loyal Blue patron. It's been hit or miss on the cocktails but we have found a couple we like or we will swing by Colt & Grey or Williams & Graham on the way home. I almost always start my dining experience with the shishitos and a simple roll like the phili or tuna. I prefer the simple rolls or nigiri with my peppers.

First off, if there was a 2 1/2 star rating I would give it that. The atmosphere: The best word I can come up with to describe is swanky. Definitely an upbeat dining room with lots of color and light. Cool was the fish tank over the bar, but weird was the flat screen tv right next to the fish tank -- with constant video of a fish tank. I was turned off by the steel chopsticks, very difficult to grip and eat with. The service: I'd say average. In addition to our table, or waiter was also working several others including a party of 12, so he was maxed out to say the least. The food: We started with the 'river rock beef tenderloin'. It's listed as a 'hot plate' as in entree, but I feel like the serving size was more in line with an appetizer. Thinly sliced seared beef tenderloin with sliced fresh jalapeno and chili ponzu sauce.... It was tasty for sure, but served on searing hot stones... a bit strange. The sushi was above average. The fish was of good quality, and the rolls were a good size. We ordered the Hot Popper roll, Roja roll, Philly, and some Escolar nigiri. The only thing I was disappointed with was the Escolar, I've definitely had better -- and at $6 for two I felt let down. All in all I'm undecidedon weather I would go back or not. Between the steel chopsticks, the food served on rocks, and some of the decor cues, I would definitely put this restaurant in the 'trying too hard' category. While the sushi was good, I've had the same quality for much much less -- you are undoubtedly paying for the atmosphere with this place.

This place is by far the best sushi place in LoDo and maybe all of Denver. They have an absolutely fantastic happy hour daily. The sushi/staff is fantastic and I have been to numerous sushi restaurants all around the country. I highly recommend Blue Sushi to anyone looking for quality sushi.

A new sushi restaurant and within walking distance? I'm there! unlike some other sushi places I've been to, there was a big selection of things for happy hour. They also put cucumber in their water which I liked. The sushi looked very good and presentation was awesome. The itchy salmon was amazing. However, this is not your typical sushi restaurant. This is sushi fusion which I was not aware of until I opened the menu. They add extra things to what would otherwise be a familiar roll and I was not impressed with the taste of many of the "fusions" that sounded pretty good on paper. In addition to the itchy salmon which was awesome, I had the crunchy blue roll, snow white, roja roll and blue volcano. Blue volcano hit the mark, wish I ordered an extra roll of that. Roja roll was not bad, I'd order it again but the crunchy blue and the snow white were mediocre at best. The snow white tasted totally bland and had too much rice. I ended up picking out the actual fish and left the rice on my plate. The crunchy blue had some kind of weird taste I didn't care for at all. Again, I picked out the fish and left everything else. Overall, I like this place just fine. Nothing spectacular but not bad. I wouldn't oppose coming back to try some other items on the menu but this is certainly not my first choice when I'm in the mood for sushi.

Delicious sushi! One of the best places that I've been to. They had so many options, it was hard to choose. I would recommend the Tidal Wave. Lots of yummy drink options too. The waitress was friendly, informative and fast. The feel of the restaurant was very hip, although it was a bit cold. The price was what I was expecting for a fancy sushi place downtown. It was a great start to a fun night out downtown.

One of the best sushi meals I have had in Denver. The food and drinks as well as the attentive staff were fantastic. The assortment of sushi, the wide varieties of appetizers and the sake made this meal. The Itchy nigiri, the Rock steak and the thriller roll were some of our favorites. Well managed well staffed and amazing food. Great addition to downtown Denver.

I recently came back to Blue sushi sake grill and I have to say, it is still really delicious! The happy hour is a great deal, and a lot of their rolls are not only really creative, but they are super tasty to boot! We started with the sishito peppers, which I'm already craving again they are SO good!! Then we had a plethora of rolls, my favorites were the hotel Cali, the cowboy (try it- it's amazing!) and the thriller, though really they were all great. We had a party of 8 people and our waiter was able to split the checks individually without a problem (even offered to do so at the beginning of the meal without being asked- wow!). Overall,I would definitely recommend blue for a yummy night out! Can't wait to go back!

The atmosphere is fun and trendy. Sushi selection was excellent, so hard to find sea urchin anywhere else. However, sushi was really sub par. Found a bone in our salmon roll, never had that happen in the fourteen years I've been a sushi aficionado. Same roll also had poor cut as we also found a huge chunk of the blood line. Price and service were perfect.

5 stars for a killer happy hour!! Holy COW!! So glad I read the other reviews because it is SOOOO true, the happy hour is insane. I loved being able to sample so many different things for an awesome price! The bar area is super cute too and great booths! Now on to the food. LOVE that you get free edamame when you check in via yelp, we chose the spicy and it was AWESOME. They the server suggested the Cherry Bomb when I asked which Nigiri we should try and it had a great kick too. Which was rice tempura with tuna on top and a slice of Serrano pepper. My mouth was definitely on fire by that point but oh so good. Then we had the Hawaiian roll (tons of crab with salmon and mango), holy cow what a great price on happy hour! Normally $10 and it was $4.50. AND I love crab cakes so also being on happy hour for $6 I had to try those. You get three of them laid on this yummy slaw/salad. I am going back for those!!!! And then last but not least we ordered the chicken satay. The peanut sauce was to die for. It says it is a spicy peanut sauce. I did not taste the spicy part, but who knows because I had already had so many spicy things. We will be back for sure. When you are so used to spending the big bucks for sushi it is so nice to know you don't always have to. This will definitely be a go to spot for us. And happy hour goes till 6:30 so that is nice as well.

Had Happy Hour for the first time. The Happy Hour menu was sweet! $3 Wine, $2 Cold Sake, $4 Hot Sake, and a great $4.50 Maki selection. The staff was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. I recommend the Hawaiian Roll and the Itchy Salmon nigiri. Yumm!!!! Will definitely be coming back soon!

I really enjoyed my dinner at Blue Sushi Sake Grill! We came late on a Friday night, and were seated immediately (by a huge, loud party table, but oh well). Our orders were taken promptly, and the server seemed helpful but not overbearing. The sushi pieces were huge and tasted great!. I really enjoyed the clean, urban decor, and the location! I would love to come back soon!

With miss Chelsey M in town, we decided the perfect way to catch up [and show her more of downtown Denver] was over plates of sushi. Being just a few blocks away from my office & having just opened last month, I suggested Blue Sushi...and I was blown away. Here's the breakdown: 1. Once being Dixon's, Blue Sushi completely renovated their space to a modern, urban, and a literally blue experience. Fish tanks galore, old rustic table tops [even in the bar!] & perfect lighting in all areas of the restaurant. I felt very downtown chic. 2. The staff is amazing. Despite being lunch time, the restaurant was bustling with people waiting to be sat, entering the bar and eating their heaping plates of sushi. I was beyond excited when we chose a simple table in the bar area and our server was prompt. She gave us full descriptions of each sushi roll, refilled our water countless times [thanks!] and made sure we had everything we needed! yes! 3. That brings me to the food. HOLY! I've tried my fair share of sushi, and this is easily in the top 5. They offer big, round, full rolls, full of any and every kind of seafood you could want [try the South Pacific, Hawaiian & ugni magi...they are to die for!] along with a side salad. Their wasabi dressing is spicy, yet sweet offering your mouth the perfect mix of flavor. yowza! 4. Prices are insanely low for sushi. For 12-16 pieces [roughly 2 rolls] and a side soup or salad totals just $12! Also, check out their sake bombs [famous!] and happy hour, as I have heard it's one of the best in town! 5. Located right in the heart of LoDo, it's a no brainer as to why this place would be constantly busy and just plain awesome! 5 reasons & 5 stars for my new favorite sushi joint! :)

I've been here three times, now, and every visit has thus far been great. Friendly, attentive staff, great happy hour prices, and some specialty rolls that I loved. Sadly, I've forgotten their names; one has jalapeno and smoked salmon, another some fresh cilantro (and one is called the cherry bomb and has no cherries, so it's deceptive and delightful, just like I like my men - I mean, what?), so I guess I'll be forced to go back to find out. Oh, woe is me. Woe is me.

I've tried this place three times and each time has been lackluster, at best. We walked in and the place smelled very strong of fish. Big red flag if you work with fish. We ordered the yellow tail with serrano which arrived promptly. The fish was pungent. A little too pungent. The manager came by to clear our plate and asked us what we thought; all three of replied that it was just okay and didn't seem that fresh but that we ate the dish and didn't have a problem and insisted that we pay for the dish we ate. He was very cordial and offered to make us a dish to make us happy. Good customer service. He asked us if we like Sea Bass and crab; we replied by asking if it was imitation crab or real, he brushed passed the question and left the table. The dish they served next was surprisingly bad; overcooked sea bass on a bed of imitation crab that was almost inedible. We didn't complain, just paid our check, left the server a good tip and immediately fought rush hour traffic to drive up to Hana Matsuri in Westminster where we enjoyed one of the finest meals any of the three of us have experienced. Seven courses, including yellow tail with serrano, that was out of this world. The best Uni ( not usually a fan) I've tasted. Three times and Blue Fish is "out of there". Go to Izakaya Den, or drive up to Hana Matsuri for the truly memorable meal. It was worth the drive from Downtown to Westminster, and back again.

Unbelievably good sushi! Not quite on par with Uchi, but it won't set you back 200 bucks a head either. Their rolls are really tasty and well balanced. Sushi is fresh and flavorful. My wife didn't feel like sushi one night and their cooked food is good too. Incredible all around place! Got a cold sake on special too...also the bomb!!

Thank you to the valet guy at the Embassy suites for recommending this place! The food here is amazing. Sashimi taste fresh, the baked scallop dynamite was to die for as well as their soups and rolls. Friendly customer service. I really enjoyed my dinner. Thank you guys ;)

Happy Hour is great but don't get stuck in the back corner if you expect quick service. Sit @ the sushi bar for a visual feast and quick service. Duh, right??? As with all LoDo places, parking is atrocious.

  • Mila G.

Good sushi, and good drinks. It's a shame the Happy Hour price is all I can afford, and it ends early (6:30pm) so I only get one round. Overall, good. I do wish Happy Hour was available at other tables, sitting at the bar with a big group isn't the best way to chat with everyone.

Very good sushi. The shrimp wasn't as good as the rest of the meal. The sake selection is excellent. The wait staff were very good. Terrific atmosphere. I'll be coming back for sure.

Well, the management was kind enough to send us a gift card to try Blue again, so my wife and I went last night. We were seated at the sushi bar, which is always great, if you ask me. When we sat down, I noticed immediately that my soy sauce bowl was dirty and had food stuck to it. Not a good start, but the waitress swapped it out quickly. No problem. Drinks came out quickly enough. I had wine, my wife had a mixed drink that she said was decent. The sushi? Once again, it was just okay. Really not worth the prices they charge. My wife and I both thought our rolls were bland. I had a regular tuna roll and the Cabo Roll. Nothing wrong with either of them, really, but they weren't exceptionally flavorful. But, here's the big thing: while we were sitting there, I could see into the little glass case where the chefs keep the fish before it's cut up for sushi. I could see residue/build-up on the inside edge where the case's glass doors slide open. It looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Yuck. So, my final review: the service has always been quite good, so I commend them for that. But the prices, the rolls, and now the cleanliness really make me not want to go back. Sorry, Blue. I appreciate your efforts, but I don't think we'll be back.

So, I'll admit it: I am something of a sushi snob. I've eaten at many fabulous traditional Japanese sushi restaurants here and abroad. This is not a traditional Japanese restaurant like something you'd find in Tokyo- it's definitely more fusion style- but what Blue offers here are creative rolls, great quality fish, and good service. My good friend Katie and I visited on a Thursday afternoon just after finishing work (she works right around the corner and suggested it). It happened to be Happy Hour and I was pleased with the large selection of maki for just $4.50 each. With most happy hour menus at sushi places you'll find uninspired options and small portions- this was not the case here whatsoever. We had fun looking through the menu to see what each roll was, and were pleased when our sushi arrived- good sized portions and well constructed. We ordered the Snow White, Crunchy Blue, Shrimp Tempura maki, and the South Pacific. All of ot them were excellent, but the South Pacific was a standout, I highly recommend it! We didn't have drinks this time, but I saw a few and they looked good, so I may partake the next time we visit. We decided to order the bananas three ways for dessert- the ice cream was to die for (it's homemade) but the banana tempura maki was weird. I'm all about the sweet and savory together, but it was just banana rolled in sushi rice, then battered and deep fried. It had no flavor and was sort of mushy. Not our favorite item (next time we intend to try the chocolate egg rolls). As we were eating a manager happened to walk by and ask how our meal was- we praised the sushi but told him we didn't love the dessert- he later removed the dessert from our tab, without us even suggesting it- great service, and ensured we will come back. Our waitress, too, was pleasant and timely- overall the service here is excellent. The prices are excellent, service is great, and the sushi is creative and fresh. See you soon, Blue!

I had dinner solo on a Saturday night here. It as busy but they were able to get me a spot at the sushi bar which was great. My server was Nathan. He was prompt and gave a great first-timer description of the menu. I ordered a mock-tail and it was just what I wanted, but the best part as definitely the sushi. I always judge a sushi restaurant by two things, the salmon and the caterpillar roll. I have to say, the sushi was very enjoyable. I would recommend getting something from the specialty maki section. I had the hot popper roll, caterpillar, and the specialty roll that was truffle something...mostly strawberries and salmon with a ponzu type sauce. If it had truffle oil I didn't taste it but it was the best dish I ordered (non-traditional roll). Water kept full and sushi timed nicely one after the other. Nice atmosphere, cool vibe. Great service, thanks Nathan! If you check in on Yelp you can get free edamame, I will definitely be coming back with my boyfriend for happy hour.

Completely different sushi experience than I've ever had experienced before. I went here with my boyfriend for a Valentine's date dinner and we were both very impressed. Very trendy and classy decor inside. Most of the menu is a nontraditional but far from disappointing. We went with previous Yelper's recommendations and had the Itchy Salmon, Black Dragon rolls and the Black Tuna Sashimi. All amazing and delicious!! But we are both light eaters and were quite satisfied so you might want to order more sushi than what we ate. We'll definitely be back!!

My favorite sushi place in Denver, hands down. The rolls are large, fresh, and incredibly flavorful but under exaggerated and priced terrifically, unlike places like Sushi Den and Hapa in Cherry Creek. On a side note, bought a living social deal for Blue Fin Sushi because I misremembered the name. Even though the deal was for a different restaurant, the manager gave us several free new menu items to try. They didn't have to do anything at all since the mistake was mine, but the managers and wait staff (our server was Jack and he was great) went above and beyond. Bottom line: I recommend Blue Sushi Sake Grill to absolutely everyone who enjoys good sushi. The ambiance is good, service is great, and food is terrific!

This place has pretty good Sushi, my favorite roll was "The Thriller," I really loved the sauce that came on it, though it may not be for everybody... Their classic rolls, taste good... The water has a cucumber in it, which I thought was nice, though again not for everybody as it bothered some of the others in my group... The ambiance and service was good, though we went on a Sunday with no sports or downtown events going on so it was fairly dead... All in all we were satisfied... Though they should get som Mochi ice cream if they want to be an authentic Japanese spot!

Best sushi I have ever had. The staff here is very friendly and attentive to their guests. The food is served rather quickly and was absolutely delicious. I had the rainbow roll and spicy tuna roll which were both very good. I will definitely come back here and an added bonus of checking in- free edamame!

I definitely want to come back for the Happy Hour. On my most recent visit, lunch was the plan. And I must say, overall I was quite pleased. They offer lunch specials starting at $12. For this lowish price, one can have two orders of maki and either soup or salad. The salad was surprisingly large for a side salad. Although it was mostly mixed greens, it went really well with the ginger-carrot dressing. Even though I like sushi, I seldom eat (tolerate) fishy-fish. But, Blue Sushi has some really cool vegetarian sushi options. Beyond your standard cucumber or avocado rolls, they offer, the COWGIRL, the EDEN ROLL, the ICHI ZEN, the SILLY RABBIT, the VEGGIE, and the V.L.T.. I opted for the CRUNCHY CABBAGE (with spicy fried aged tofu, scallion, tempura and nappa cabbage). It was artfully prepared, very flavorful, and a nice change of pace. I also had my standard Shrimp Tempura and it was just fine. Service was excellent.

Was a little disappointed that more of the regular menu items were not on the Happy Hour menu. But, the food was still good (had the small nigiri plater) and I was able to take advantage of a free edamame appetizer for checking in with Yelp. Service was good after an initial short wait for someone to come to my table in the lounge. I would come back, but not necessarily for the happy hour deal.

I attended the Grand Opening which was an amazing event. It was so amazing that I have been back two more times in the few weeks they have been open. The happy hour is awesome. $4.50 rolls and $5.50 martini's, $2.00 Coors, etc. I am able to get my sushi and cocktail fix without breaking the bank.

My brother has been stuck eating army food since May, and he was in the mood for sushi so we checked on Yelp and we were so unfortunate to come upon this restaurant after walking a mile in the rain. Seating was fast and we were excited to eat. However, service so terrible. There were so many servers but no one checking up on tables. After minutes of being seated (no "your server will be right with you" or "here's your menu"), we were growing impatient from being completely ignored. Someone eventually brought out water and disappeared once again. After waiting for what seemed forever we flagged down a random waitress to take our order. My brother ordered a Sapporo but he didn't have his ID on him. I didn't think it was going to be a big deal because we were with our family. The waitress refused to give it to him, so I said it was for my father because I didn't have my ID on me either. When the food came out we were shocked at how tiny the rolls were for their price. We were also appalled that my mom's vegetarian rolls were mixed between the other rolls because she's a strict vegetarian. The sushi was...alright. Nothing spectacular at all. If you want good sushi then come out to California, how this place got 4 stars is beyond me. The cherry on top was when someone came by and asked my brother for his id then just took the beer away... I was absolutely furious by how unprofessional everything was and how there was no mention of a complimentary drink because we PAID for that beer. The rest of my meal went from being mediocre to barely eatable. When the bill came out, I was so ready to leave 0-3% tip, but the waitress came running out saying they didn't charge for the beer. So in the end we left a 10% tip. Bottom line: I will NEVER come here ever again even if you paid me!

Super fresh & original. Really impressed & I'm a picky sushi lover. The jalapeno cucumber (?) margaritaish cocktail is very good, but also incredibly spicy for a drink. I would order it only if you are enjoying your sushi sans wasabi. Sea urchin & fatty tuna were very fresh tasting which I was very happy with.

My friends and I wnet to the 7/7 Grand Opening and enjoyed ourselves. Fun and creative sushi. Some things were ho-hum [whitefish nigiri, some roll wrapped in pink something, and some others i can't remember] but i was surprised by some of the other offbeat combos Hits of the evening: calamari salad seaweed salad blue balls itchy tuna itchy salmon tuna river rock spanish fly roll black dragon roll truffle salmon if you're sitting in the dining room, sit in Cynthia's section. She timed everything perfectly, made great recommendations and was just fabulous!

So we all know that Denver is not exactly the hotbed of primo sushi. Having wanted to go to Blue for a while, I finally made it today. Kind of a mixed experience. A few of the rolls were spot on and delicious. The others were...a bit lackluster. The biggest issue was that one of our guests ordered a cooked chicken dish. (We asked that all orders be put in at the same time). He was done with that dish (not rushing) before any of the sushi dishes arrived - so that's awkward. And even after that one of our sushi dishes was later than the rest. If you get lunch rushes - hire more chefs. Beyond that the waiter also spilled on me once and almost twice. It was nice that he comped an app but is rather just not get spilled on. haha It's not that this is a new spot - I really thought they'd have the lunches a bit more dialed in than this.

I feel bad giving a not so great review considering I used a $15 off coupon on my $18 meal. But the sushi just wasn't great. I got a cabo roll, which I found aptly named. It kind of fell apart like a sloppy spring breaker. The proportions also seemed way out of whack. I was expecting spicy tuna and crab. What I got was: CRAAABBBBBB!........and oh look, I think that's some spicy tuna in there too. There are a surprisingly large number of quality sushi joints in Denver considering it's about as far away from an ocean as an American city can get. Blue Sushi Sake Grill isn't one of them.

I am from the West coast, so I know sushi pretty well. Blue is pretty MEH in every way. My first complaint is that the service is pretty regularly terrible. I have been to Blue three times, and each time the service varies from 'forced smile' to rude. I have never received service from this restaurant that was even acceptable. The first time I went, the waitress was extremely rude, had to literally force herself to say the most common greetings ("thanks for coming", etc) and worst of all, she spilled a whole dish of soy sauce on my friend, and didn't say anything! I work in customer service and let me tell you, I would have been apologizing and sending out free drinks of something. Absolutely UNACCEPTABLE. Also, refused to split our tip at the end and said Blue has a "no tip splitting policy". I know this is absolute BS. A restaurant would never enforce such a rule for any reason. Secondly, the sushi is pretty sub par. I have no clue why this place have decent reviews on Yelp... It's because you Coloradans do not know what good fish tastes like; sorry, just sayin'. Now this is the most disgusting thing ever, so be warned: Last time I ate at Blue, I was down to my last roll and decided to just cut it open and eat the fish out, as I do when I am insanely full. I broke open the roll, and there was a black hair IN THE SUSHI ROLL. OMG I almost vomited. Mistakes like this do happen, but should not. That will absolutely be the last time I ever go to Blue. Prices are expensive for quality, service is absolutely unacceptable, and the place is always empty hence bad atmosphere. Go to HAPA, always great sushi, great service, fantastic happy hour, and you get what you pay for.

Great place right downtown! Service is great and the food is remarkable! Loved the spicy edamame I got for free do checking in but would pay a pretty penny for it. I'm addicted! Ambiance is relaxed with a romantic flare. Our sit on the patio for great people watching and sunshine! Is usually full though. A must go!!!

Awesome happy hour! I love that they have so many specialty rolls on their happy hour menu, most sushi places just have standard ones. Also a lot of great cocktail choices on happy hour as well. I'll be back for more soon!

Really funky inside, but yummy sushi! Happy Hour is awesome!! They play funny Asian movies with subtitles, it's pretty entertaining! The service can kinda be slow sometimes, but when I go for sushi I'm usually not in a hurry and just hanging out.

I've only visited here during happy hour, when the restaurant was very empty and slow. The happy hour menu didn't appeal to me much so I ordered off the normal sushi menu, while my friends ordered from the happy hour selections. Reactions from the food ranged from "fine" to "one of the best rolls I've had." My sushi was very good, nothing outstanding but a bit better than I'd expected. Non-happy hour prices seem to be a little high by Denver's standards, and I felt their menu was too heavy on specialty/americanized options/rolls and would have liked to see more options with simple preparations. My nigiri was very good though!

Attended a UYE lunch here and I can't wait to go back! I thought they had great roll variety and really yummy, fresh fish. I also thought the atmosphere was cool and good prices as well for sushi. I can't wait to come back and try their cocktails!

Popped in here for dinner one night while on a trip to Denver. We had a group of 8. After a brisk walk from the hotel (it was unseasonably cold). We arrived. Surprisingly we were one of the only tables seated. Maybe it was because it was really cold out and not a weeknight (near the business district). The service was attentive and our server seemed very knowledgable about the menu and made several excellent recommendations. Our table had a variety of cocktails, sake, and beers. All were enjoyed. Sushi rolls, sashimi and nigiri were all fabulous. Members of our party that ordered cooked entrees reported good food. There were enough vegetarian offerings that everyone was well satisfied. Next time I'm in Denver I'll remember this spot if I'm in the mood for some sushi!

Went for lunch on MLK Day and there was no one in the room we sat in, but it still took 10 minutes to get the menu and about 30 to get our sushi rolls. Our waitress was awful; she never checked on us and never was visible. Luckily another checked on us and we were able to let her know that we'd been waiting a long time. Food was passable, but after the wait, it wasn't worth the great price. Won't go back.

Love, love, and love this place! Ultimately the BEST sushi in Denver. Friendly and honest staff. If you are unsure what to order, ask the staff for recommendations! Happy hour pricing is more than reasonable. Freshly made sushi rolls. Dined here on multiple occasions and NEVER a disappointment! Tried multiple rolls and various mixed drinks; both exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend and will dine here again, if in the neighborhood!

Thumbs up to the vegetarian maki options! It's not everyday that you find a sushi place with interesting vegetarian maki in addition to the typical avocado or cucumber rolls. My favorite was the Cowgirl - it sounds odd but the fried pickle and BBQ soy paper totally works. With that said, you do have to be ok with soy paper to appreciate some of these vegetarian rolls. I do wish that they had some vegetarian rolls that had tempura bits or were deep fried, but overall I must say we really appreciated the vegetarian maki offerings!

The vibe is dope!!!!! We ordered a few things and they we're all delish!!!! Stared with the blue balls (deep fried crab inari) & mango crab ragons, they were unbelievable!!!! Ordered the crunchy LA roll, tidal wave roll and claw/knuckle roll! Sweet, crunchy and spicy!!! I'll be back for sure.. Saki bomb was kinda slacking but all good!

I had a great experience at this restaurant. I had a party of 16 for my birthday on a Friday night at 7pm. This is the only place that would accommodate us last minute on a busy night. The sushi here is excellent! The fish is always fresh and portions are large. The ambiance was great, and our service was spot on. Jonathan made us feel very welcome, while other restaurants were turning us away. I couldn't have had a better night out with my friends for dinner. Recommendations: Unagi Maki, South Pacific, Blue Volcano

Not sure why everyone gave this place good reviews. Waited forever in the bar area. Got the rainbow roll which I always love. Could barely see the fish on top it was sliced so thin. The spicy edamame were just loaded with salt & paprika = gross & ruined my taste buds. Maybe happy hour is nice, but regular hours we will not be back.

There are so many Sushi restaurants here in Denver so you'd think this place would try and stand out a little bit. I guess the giant fish tank was pretty cool but everything else, sushi, drinks, ext.., was average. The service, however, was pretty good.

I've been to Blue Sushi for lunch a few times, but stopped by last night for a happy hour. Their happy hour is pretty darn great... lots of food and drinks on special until 6:30. $2 Sapporos all night, $4 hot sake, various rolls for $4.50... Our table shared multiple rolls as well as shishito peppers (don't miss.. so good!). Our server was always there when we needed her and the food was good. I will be back!

Been here a few times and each time was good. The scallop dynamite dish is one of the best things on their regular menu, and the happy hour menu is more than reasonable! Each of the specialty rolls I've tried are tasty, however when I tried the Snow White each piece of the roll fell apart as I tried to pick it up. Only had one bad experience, which was when they told me they'd call me as soon as my table was ready and I never ended up receiving a call. Luckily by then I'd just gone elsewhere, but had I been super anxious to eat there it would have annoyed me to no end.

Blue Sushi was able to accommodate a group of 7 on very short notice and off we went. Short walk later and we arrived. For those of you that know me you know I'm still trying to find my LOVE for sushi, it's a very long process if you didn't grow up on it. Willing to go here was a huge step for me. As I digress, let's talk menu. The menu is absolutely amazing, a great variety of items, meat, cooked, raw, sushi, sashimi, and everything else you can imagine. Our table was feeling hungry after a half day meeting and decided to order accordingly. We had: Edamame Pork Gyoza (dumplings) Grilled Chicken Lettuce Wraps Big Eye Poke River Rock Beef Tenderloin with jalapeno chili ponzu Lump Crab Cakes with roasted corn, tri colored seaweed, Asian slaw, and fire roasted red pepper aioli Spider Maki roll (that's the only roll I can remember) The table ordered a lot more rolls than just the one but that's the only one I can remember at this time. It's the only one I tried, it was very tasty and I would go out of my way to order that roll again. The Edamame was fresh and salted perfectly, dumplings were stuffed with a flavorful pork mixture that were delectable. What a presentation on the Chicken Lettuce Wraps, a lot bigger of a plate than one would think. I love playing with my food and making my own concoction, choosing noodles, carrots, sprouts, chicken, sauce, and cilantro all wrapped in lettuce, Amazing. The River Rock Beef Tenderloin was a lot of fun and served classically on top of hot rocks. Note: you need to flip your beef for proper searing. The jalapeno chili ponzu added a nice kick to the plate and the beef was succulent and tender. The crab cakes were my favorite, stuffed to the gills with crab, not a lot of bread filling like you find at other places, the Asian slaw was a nice addition and the red pepper aioli finished the dish and made every bite better than the last. Sushi or no sushi this is a great place for lunch, dinner or Happy Hour. Nom Nom!

This place was awesome. Sunday is all day happy hour with great bargains. The decor is romantic, the service was 10/10, and the food was delicious. Note- don't try to use your groupon on anything but dinner. Luckily, we enjoyed it enough that we didn't mind to return a second time to use our groupon.

I didn't think much of this place. The service was great, but honestly the food did not live up to its hype. I had four orders of nigiri and the tako yaki tori. The tako yaki tori was tender, but seriously over sauced. It came with a side of bread possibly to balance it out, but the combo didn't work for me. I don't think their sushi was terrible, but their rice seemed overdone and while the fish tasted ok, it wasn't anything special in my opinion.

This place was definitely love at first bite for me. We came here on a whim for my mama's birthday and were pleased to find out that it was happy hour. Our server, Shannon, was incredibly friendly and definitely went out of her way to make this a great experience for us. We ordered Ceviche, the Crunchy Blue Maki, Spicy Tekka Maki, the Hawaiian Roll, and the Negi Hama. My mom also ordered the house lime margarita which was $3 and a really great size while I ordered the Sake Sangria which was tasty and looked really cool with the neat glassware. I told the waitress that it was my mom's birthday and asked if we could get a little treat for her. HOLY COW! My mom was blown away by the fried ice cream she got - it was a large ball of ice cream fried and then covered in raspberry and chocolate sauces. This place really went above and beyond and I can't wait to come back. The menu is big with many awesome options and the service is great. We sat on the patio but noticed that the interior decor was cool, as well. UPDATE: I went back with my boyfriend and we were seated inside this time. The food was absolutely wonderful once again and the staff, including the new GM were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. Can't wait to make this place a regular spot!

Not only is this a cool (and much needed) new spot for sushi in downtown Denver, the happy hour prices are unreal! Specialty cocktails (hello Saketinis!) are only $5.50 and specialty rolls are $4.50/each. The ceviche rocked my socks off and at $5.50, I almost ordered two! At one point the manager stopped by to ask how we were enjoying the smorgasbord of food in front of us - always a nice touch if you ask me. Less than 24 hours later, and I am thinking about returning for lunch. I just can't get enough!

Delicious! Great Happy Hour. We went here before a Rockies game and the place was packed. Started out with the spicy edamame which was delicious. Ordered TONS of sushi rolls. Lots of the specialty rolls. All were delicious! Overall, new unique flavors with a great happy hour

I went for a quick snack and was disappointed. The restaurant was nearly empty on a Sunday afternoon. I sat at the bar and took a while to flag a server. Took a while to get my drink. The server didn't write down my order and got it wrong. She correctly ordered edamame but they never arrived. I was waiting for food for about 40 minutes. After eating, the server was missing so I had to walk to the hostess for the check. The Hot Popper Raw Maki was fine. This restaurant seems to have a lot of potential; I might have gone on the wrong day.

I am in love with this place and their food! After a very warm greeting, the server told us about the specials and the most popular items on the menu. We had a delicious white moscato with seasoned peppers for appetizer and three raw fish rolls. One of them was with a pineapple, and even though I enjoyed everything, it was an absolutely amazing choice! Peppers were a little too spicy for me, but the rest of the food, drinks, service, and atmosphere made up for it. I would definitely recommend it, great place for a date.

This location is our favorite Happy Hour place before Rockies games on Sundays. They have Happy Hour on Sundays from noon-8pm, Monday - Saturday 3-630pm, Fri and Sat 1030pm-Midnight. The iced water with a slice of cucumber is always refreshing. With a Yelp Check-in, you get a free order of Edamame. I ordered the Spicy Edamame. The Mango Crab Rangoon had 4 pieces of melt in your mouth goodness. That was my first time trying them and will have to be a must order item. My husband always orders the Cherry Bomb nigiri. He says they are good as candy and always regrets ordering more. They Crunchy Blue with the sauce on the side was a bit of a disappointment this time, but we usually order it. The Lump Crab Cakes were dry and had a lot of filler. I would not order them again. The Hot Poppers had soy paper rather than seaweed. We've ordered them before and my husband liked them. We will be back! Go Rockies!

I was SO excited to finally get to check this place out. It's one of those restaurants people always mention and rave about. OK, OK, OK, I know I am going against the general consensus on this place but I don't think I can give more than 3 stars, at least for now. I came here for an early dinner yesterday with one of my best friends from college. The interior is so nice, very sleek and modern looking. I checked in on Yelp and -score!- free spicy edamame. Reason #486431 I love Yelp! They were on happy hour when we visited, which goes from noon until 8 PM on Sundays. Not to sound like a broken record and repeat what other Yelpers have explained, but their happy hour is definitely the best thing they have going for them. After ordering the Sake Sangria (amazing), we dove right in and took advantage of their $5 rolls. I ordered two rolls: The Hawaiian Roll and the Crunchy LA. Out of the two, I would recommend the Crunchy LA. The Hawaiian did not stand out much, and I didn't even end up finishing it. The Crunchy LA was definitely the better out of the two, but still kind of forgettable. Booooo! I was pretty bummed after waiting so long to try this place. I cursed the Yelp gods and downed my sake sangria. Service was decent, a little slow at times but nothing out of the ordinary. I would still come back to this place if someone suggested it and perhaps try other things on the menu. It would be a cute place for a date, afterwards you could walk to Union Station for some ice cream! TIP: The edamame discount is at the very bottom of your receipt. Don't be a clown like us and accuse the waitress of forgetting to take it off your bill. Hashtag My Bad.

If you're a bachelorette.... This is your joint. When I went the other night, there were 3 different bachelorette party dinners going on.... The "WOOING" was intense. Not sure why they all picked this place, I get it that girls tend to love sushi, but Blue Sushi was not 100% amazing. Sure the fish was fresh and the Chilean Seabass kicked my taste buds into another dimension of delicious, but it was all just so over priced for the quantity that I couldn't enjoy myself to the fullest.... And speaking of FULL... I didn't get to that point after eating here. That being said, my company made up for it so, at least I have those memories! Oh and I certainly won't forget the WOO girls!

I searched on Yelp for a sushi place nearby. I came across this place that seemed to have a large menu. I have no idea what I was in store for until we got there. We sat down and a gentlemen brought us water with a thinly sliced cucumber. As I drank my delightful water, I looked over the menu. The waiter mentioned that the V next to the items meant vegan. What? I love you, Denver! I looked over the vegan rolls, and I decided on the Eden Roll. It was sweet potato, edamame hummus, asparagus, and sun-dried tomato. It was an interesting mix of flavors, but I really liked it a lot. We also got a free appetizer with our check-in. We had a choice of edamame or spicy edamame. Let's live on the edge a little, and go for the spice. ..It was very spicy and totally awesome. Overall, the experience and food was great. Everyone else at the table had sushi with fish and was very happy. The waiter was a little slow and forgot our edamame until we reminded him. I moved them down to four stars instead of five just because of that.

"Well hi! I love your shirt. Did you know Venus in is retrograde! How cool is that? Hey, it's Friday. How 'bout I start you off with a drink?" "Sorry," I said. "I've got to go back to work." "Why that's the best reason to have a drink, " she adorably replied. Ya just gotta love Cayla, my new favorite LoDo server. About as perky, friendly and sweet as could be. Cayla: "You could get one of the lunch specials . . . but me, I love the Tower of Tuna. That's what I'd get if I were you, and it's even cheaper but just as large as the specials." "OK. I'll have the Tower of Tuna . . . and you know what, Cayla . . . you've made my day. I was going to meet a friend here for lunch but he can't come by, so thank you for being so sweet." And dang it if the Tower of Tuna wasn't just deelishus. Ummmm. Think I just found me a new sushi place downtown.

Excellent sushi! Some of the best that I've tried out here. The menu is different. The sushi is fresh. The rolls are creative and absolutely delicious! The Primo Fire roll is amazing! The waiter recommended the black tuna and it turned out to be awesome! Great food and great service. What else can you ask for? I highly recommend this spot if you're in the area and love good sushi.

When I crave sushi, I keep going back here no matter what. Best happy hour ever and I tell everyone to try this place because it's so amazingly good! Went here with the bf and we got our regular fix of blue balls, crunchy roll, combo of vegetable and shrimp tempura, and his fave drink Hatori Hanzo (cucumber infused vodka) Great place, great atmosphere, great service! And the martial arts movies that play nonstop are a plus too haha

This place has the best lunch specials and the best selection of vegan sushi around. Try the cowgirl...it tastes almost like a burger would taste (or so I imagine). With a mix of BBQ sauce, a pickle, and several other things, it is the best.

I'm pretty picky about sushi in general and I have yet to find a sushi place in the Denver area that can make sushi well but this place definitely does that. Their happy hour menu is great for drinks and food. I came with a group of people and we ate so much sushi during happy hour and we all were happy with the food and our bill wasn't even that expensive. The only thing I can think of for them to improve upon is their wait staff was a bit slow in coming to get out order in the beginning and we had to wait a while to get our drinks to come too. The blue balls, crunchy la, and crunchy blue were probably my favorites and would highly recommended to get those.

Delicious sushi! We ordered edamame but didnt realise we could get it free with a YELP check-in - boo hoo! Service was great and a HUGE array of menu choices... The sushi was delicious! Nice choice of drinks aswell, including the GF beer which was a delightful change for my belly after brewery-hopping in the city known for beer!

Awesome, awesome happy hour. Sushi is one of my favorite things to eat but it can get a little heavy on the wallet after two or more outings; I often save it for a celebratory event that requires some delicious fish. The blue octopus sign caught my attention one day while I was strolling downtown on 16th Street and decided that it would be the perfect place for a late birthday lunch. I loved the modern decor of the restaurant and the friendly vibes from the staff. Our server was knowledgeable and made some great recommendations: spicy tako, south pacific roll (eel tempura with pineapple), and cabo roll (spicy tuna and crab). All of the rolls tasted great and all were $4.50 each during happy hour. Amazing price for the exceptional quality! Even drinks were at great happy hour prices, so I couldn't resist a sake sangria as well. I would have loved to have seen what desserts were available too, but didn't see a dessert menu anywhere. Everything was fresh and the great service certainly sealed the deal for me on this place. Another sushi venture here will have to be in order soon. Happy hour is from 3PM-6:30PM Monday through Saturday but they also have a late-night happy hour on the weekends for those with sushi cravings at night (preferably between 10:30PM and midnight on Friday and Saturday), with sushi lunch specials 11AM-2PM Monday through Friday.

Four and a half.... The food was inevitably dearly felt and created with an independant intuism. The quality is as good as it gets... The prices are decent to valuable and the experience is beautiful with great views and designs under the roof. A place for a date for sure and a memory either way... Yes for sure

Ended up here at the perfect time for happy hour. Waitress was great and asked us towards the end of our meal if we wanted to order more before happy hour ended. Ordered the yellowtail scallion roll, spicy salmon, and a tuna roll. Great portions for the price and very cute atmosphere.

This may be my new favorite downtown sushi place, sorry Aoba. This restaurant has a great atmosphere and large windows overlooking 16th street. Can be slightly noisy but not bad. Only thing on atmosphere is the tables are a little too close. I have been here twice now, once for lunch on a Saturday and once for dinner on a Thursday. The first time I came here I didn't find this place particularly outstanding, looking back it may have been my company that day. When I returned for dinner I was much more impressed. My friend and I each ordered two margaritas on Happy Hour at $3 a piece. The margaritas are very sugary but for $3 it's pretty good. I ordered a Crunch Cabbage and Avocado roll and also split a crunch blue roll (I think?) with my friend. They have a large selection of vegetarian rolls. I can't wait to try the others. The rolls came out fast and were good. The avocado roll was much larger than most places and was also Maki, instead of the seaweed on the outside, which I prefer. My friend ordered a roll that had pineapple in it and she said it was too sweet for her taste. I tried a bite and enjoyed it. Overall I was pretty impressed with this place. I will definitely be back for happy hour again!

Had a great time here, I was excited to have some sushi here due to all the other reviews. The time of the ordering was a bit longer than I expected, so don't come hungry expecting to eat right away. Please don't that distract you, the wait was worth it !! Everything was fresh and amazing, my date and I finished the entire plate of three rolls. The only con I found, is the customer experience could be worked on . I felt no one wanted to work here and just gave me what I wanted without giving me that extra to make this experience better than normal trip out to sushi.

Great food, good service. A little loud on a Saturday night, but that's to be expected. Next time I'll get an outdoor table. The scallops were killer and so was the lobster roll.

This place really satisfied my sushi craving.... what was even better was showing up on a Sunday and finding out they have all day happy hour. Plus, if you check in, you get a free edamame. Win win! I will start off by saying that I probably will not be back. Not because it wasn't good... but because I have had much better sushi in the surrounding areas.. so I would probably go back to one of those places. But again, this place really satisfied my hunger. The FREE spicy edamame (from the yelp check in) was very delicious... I was scooping out the garlic chunks from the bottom of the bowl eating those. We also had the dumplings, spicy tuna, Hawaiian roll, avocado roll and cherry popper. From all of those I would say the cherry popper was the best. The spicy tuna roll was like miniature samples... very disappointing. The Hawaiin roll could be better but it was good. The dumplings were alright. Like I said, everything satisfied my sushi craving, but only the cherry popper really made me want to come back.... and one item from many isn't going to bring me back. I will also talk about the service. We sat at the bar and had great service from the bartender. The drinks were very nice, and I did love that they had a foreign Japanese film going on. Thanks for the sushi.. but step up your game.

I didn't like the service or sushi here. It took a while to get one roll of sushi, and then a check. It should not take long to receive a check, especially where it's not busy.

WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOW! We LOVE Blue Sushi Sake Grill! It's seriously our favorite spot in Denver!! Everything about the place feels right and it's relaxing. I think there's scientific proof that surrounding one's senses in the color blue will stimulate feelings of peacefulness and calmness. This combined with some excellent different sake combinations and AMAZING sushi, you're in for one great night when you come here. Great date spot, great group spot, great bar seating and tables, so any sized group is welcome here. Favorite thing here is the Hotel Cali Sushi Roll. This bad boy always hits the spot , so please make sure to try it. Honestly anything you get here is going to be good, so whether you like more sashimi, or the crazy sushi rolls, Blue Sushi Sake Grill will have something for you. Will be back... maybe even tonight.

My girlfriend and I come here about once a month to get our sushi fix. Happy hour is a great time to come in and have a few drinks while exploring the menu. Some personal favorites are the crunchy blue and the blue balls. Both so good!

Blue sushi is easily one of my favorite sushi spots in Denver. I eat a lot of sushi and have tried many places, but the selections blue sushi has are so good. Their happy hour is awesome! Such a good deal for different sushi, dishes, and really yummy drinks :) my favorite item is the tuna tower. It's my addiction and if I could eat it every day I would! The place gets rather busy Thursday-Sunday so if you want to get a table I recommend using open table to make a reservation just to be safe.

I love this place!!!!!!! I can never say no to sushi happy hour. It's the best way to end a long week. However, i am always wary of the portion size at sushi places because they tend to be expensive and really don't fill you up much. Thus, I was extremely happy by the end of the meal to find that I was very satisfied and wasn't broke at the same time. I came here with a friend around 5:30pm and had half an hour to order before happy hour ended. We took advantage of it and ordered everything we wanted in one go. I got the strawberry margratini which was this very interesting mixture of strawberry margarita served in a martini glass. The rim was coated with the most coarse sugar I have ever seen but I quite liked it a lot. A very enjoyable drink. If you check into yelp (which you can do everytime you're there) you can get a free edamame or spicy edamame. Being a sucker for spicy food, of course I went with the spicy edamame. I was surprised to find this was very different from the spicy edamame at hapa which I adore. The one at hapa is immersed in this spicy and delicious soy sauce concoction but this one was very dry and was smothered with this spicy garlic seasoning. I loved this as well but I think it would be delicious if the two made their edamame baby. it would be heaven. I also ordered the shishito peppers which were absolutely amazing! Though they were a bit salty, the flavor is so pungent, it just makes you drool thinking about it. Try not to choke because you're eating too fast, could get a little spicy. Talk about dopamine activation, i want some now. For the main courses, we got two rolls of sushi. One was the hot poppers which was this very clean looking sushi wrapped with green rice paper and had smoked salmon, cream cheese, and jalapenos in it. It was such a nice and rich blend of wonderful tastes. Came with 5 big pieces so pretty decent. The other roll we got was the crunchy blue. I love it!!!!!!! it's definitely better than the rolls at hapa. it has this amazing crunchy texture and such strong flavors. Definitely recommend the rolls! I also got the ceviche. They were good but not the best i've had. I think the ceviche at tomayo is better because it's more liquidy and the chips are crispier. This was pretty damn good nevertheless. Now, lastly we had crab cakes. They really don't sound that amazing on the menu, but you have to get it!! it comes with 3 large cakes which are stuffed with crab. They didn't cheap out on the ingredients! They were delicious but I wished they had come with some kind of sauce for dipping because they were a little bit bland. But you know what, I think I had enough salt for a day so that's probably not a bad thing. Overall, blue sushi sake grill was an awesome experience and satisfied my palate. I will definitely come back with other friends and I can't wait to eat those foods again =)

Great place, I hear the happy hour is tops as well but haven't hit one yet. Try the shishito peppers, really good with a different sauce. Enjoyed the South Pacific, Hawaiian, and Hot Night rolls. Overall I say it is better than average and can do some things great.

Happy hour. That is all. This happy hour is amazing! The menu is endless so many options for sushi, nigiri, cold plates, hot plates, appetizers and of course drinks! Came to happy hour on a Friday around 6 and it was packed! Luckily there were a few open seats at the sushi bar which was perfect. Our waiter did not greet us right away though he passed by Us several times before handing us the menus. We knew happy hour ended at 630 so we decided on some drinks and appetizers to get in by the time our waiter finally came to greet us. I understand that it's busy at happy hour but we waited for some time to finally be noticed. Also, as superb as the drinks were when they finally came out, they took about 10 minutes to get to our table so we only were able to enjoy happy hour prices for one drink. Definitely recommend getting here early to enjoy the full benefits of this awesome happy hour. As far as the food, it was superb! We started out with the spicy edamame as we had a free order if we checked in through yelp so that was great! We also ordered the shishito peppers which were absolutely perfect I could eat those all day long and never get sick of them! My friend and I ordered drinks on happy hour which included the signature Martinis. She ordered the blue Bellini and I ordered the bluetini. The blue Bellini (which isn't actually blue btw haha) is a great mix of vodka, moscato and peach schnapps. A little on the strong side but great twist on the classic martini! The bluetini is my absolute favorite. It consists of blueberry infused vodka some raspberry liquer and some lime. Deeeeeelish! As far as entrees, I ordered the crunchy blue and south pacific. The crunchy blue has crab, Panko and eel sauce. The South Pacific has eel tempura, cream cheese and eel sauce. I think I preferred the South Pacific though both were so tasty, I love the tempura aspect on the South Pacific roll. My friend ordered vegetarian options, and surprisingly, they had a large variety of veggie options which was awesome! She ordered the cowgirl and vlt. I only tried the cowgirl which was wrapped with a sort of onion ring that was soft and tasted great. Overall very very happy with this happy hour, great menu large array of options and perfect drinks! Only reason I did not give this 5 stars is because of the long lag time between sitting and actually being greeted by someone and also the long wait for our drinks. I will definitely be back here for happy hour but plan to arrive much earlier! Great place to come and unwind after a long week!

We visited blue after walking the streets not knowing what we fancied for dinner! The sushi menu is crazy! So much choice! We eventually ordered edamame and calimari to start, then tempura prawn, spicy tuna, prawn and mixed cali rolls for main and it was absolutely delicious! Everything presented so beautifully, really tasty and id def recommend it! Not pricey either considering how much you get. We paid about $70 for our sushi, starters and a bottle of wine for two.

I am from out of state and was planning a bachelorette party in Denver. We went here on Saturday night, and it was so great! The food was awesome, as was the service. Thank you for helping to make the weekend a success! Although we have some great restaurants in Chicago, I'm really wishing we had a Blue as well!

Where to start?! We came here during restaurant week and it was the most hesitant night. When we arrived we were greeted by the modern-yet classy ambiance and were seated right away. Our waitress went over the menu and not knowing where to start we asked for recommendations. She told us we had to try the shishito peppers and the cherry bomb. When the peppers came out we were hesitant to try, but after the first bite, you can't stop yourself from eating them all (and even licking the plate if you opt to do that in public). The flavor combination is just right and they were the most amazing peppers I have ever tried. The cherry bomb was just as tasty. The hint of tuna with the hotness on top really fills your mouth with great flavor. We have been back at least five times and always order those two. All the other rolls we have tried have been delectable as well and it is not a restaurant to disappoint. We did try their new location as well and it was just as up to par (with a little different menu) as the downtown location. Definitely a must if you like sushi. Or peppers.

I really really love this place. They have a great lunch deal and fantastic sushi. The salad with sweet ginger and carrot sauce is my favorite but I don't like it to be with onion and it always forgot to ask for it. I always order California rolls or shrimp tempura and Hawaiian rolls which is very very delicious, crispy from outside with mango sauce it's just yummy. I tried once the Philadelphia one It was good but I don't like cheese with see food.

I just can't get enough! My favorite day is happy hour Sunday Fun Day. A glass of wine, and delicious creative specialty nigiri and rolls. I start with the melt in your mouth "itchy salmon" --baked salmon on top of spicy crab. Then I easy in to my lunch with both vegetarian and fish maki. Talk about this for a vegetarian roll---pickle tempura, crispy onion rings, mayo, bbq paper. I had no clue that the fish was missing. I even had no "bigger clue" that there was such a thing as bbq paper. ahhhhh. If I keep going...well.....okay okay. Now I have to go back this week. haha. You will NOT be disappointed.

Great happy hour prices and variety! I've been to a few locations and always leave satisfied. Their Shishito Peppers and Mango Crab Ragoons are what dreams are made of, i'm certain. Definitely one of my favorite happy hour spots.

Solid rolls, fast and friendly service, outstanding happy hour. Date of Visit: 5/30/14 Gave Blue Sushi a try for a Saturday Happy Hour after seeing their impressive HH offerings. There was a very nice patio setup, but it was packed so we sat inside at the bar area. We didn't mind, as the inside has a relaxed vibe and chic decor. We tried a few different items, including the Calamari, Cherry Bomb (nigiri), and Snow White, Hot Popper and Shrimp Tempura (maki), as well as Sake Sangria and Sapporo drafts. The Cherry Bomb was the runaway favorite, but all of the rolls were very fresh, had good flavor, and the calamari was some of the best I've had. Add to that the $4/$4.50 price for a selection of almost 30 rolls, and it's a hard deal to beat. When a sushi place can impress you during happy hour, you know it's a good one. Blue Sushi has definitely secured itself as my current go-to spot for a maki fix.

You all know what a stickler I am for customer service. After my last review I was contacted by this business, and sent a gift card to give them another shot. That progressive action, to me, is a huge deal. It is great when a company cares about their customers experiences, embraces public feedback and criticism, and is willing to make a positive change. New customers are important to gain as repeat customers, and I they have now gained me as a repeat customer. We went to the restaurant on the same day of the week, sat in the lounge again, and ordered form the happy hour menu. What we ordered: *Spicy Edamame: Came hot & fresh this time, & very delicious. $3 (Free Yelp Deal) *Shrimp Tempura: crispy panko, sweet & juicy meat. $6 *Vegetable Tempura: Light crispy batter, different array of veggies which we loved (Asparagus & Avocado were our favorites) $5 *6 rolls at $4.5 Each -Hawaiian Roll -Seattle Maki -Shrimp Tempura Maki -Crunchy Blue -Crunchy LA -Hot Popper (not as pretty as others hot popper pictures) :) *Tempura Fried Ice Cream with raspberry & chocolate sauces $8 With tax and tip, and no drinks or alcohol, our happy hour bill was $31 per person. Money well spent, and $25 on the house for this trip. We WILL be visiting again for a weekend happy hour. Thank you Blue Sushi Sake Grill for offering us a second trip. Well worth it! Why only 4 stars? For my honest reviews, a 5 star restaurant has to have 100% of the qualities for my personal dining preferences. So nothing against this establishment itself. I have to get really nit picky to even find something sub par. 1. 2 waitresses were having a disagreement about cleaning, which happened to be directly in front of our table. They were slightly unpleasant to each other, but very pleasant to us. So again, no big deal. 2. Dinner seems a little steep for my (thin) wallet. Again, not their fault one bit! And in the sushi realm of Colorado, not bad at all. Average rolls are $7 which is extremely reasonable, and average specialty rolls are $11-13, also very reasonable. Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a great spot for sushi so give them a try! So glad we did!

The boyfriend and I are out-of-towners (visiting Denver for a week) and we just stumbled across this place while we were exploring. We were not disappointed. The spicy edamame was great and we loved the Cherry Bomb and Itchy Salmon from the happy hour menu. The only critique we had was that the saki sangria was really messy to pour. We had a good portion of it on out table at the end of our meal! If we find ourselves in Denver again, we will surely come back.

I was visiting the Denver area and was looking for places on Yelp that were close to Union Station and stumbled upon this gem. This place has great ambiance, but even better...their happy hour specials. $5 per sushi roll? Yes, please! And the sake sangria was delicious. Would definitely frequent this place if I was a local.

I dined at Blue Sushi Sake on Saturday for an early dinner with two friends. Cayla was our server -- she had a great sense of humor and was very helpful during the meal. Thankfully (from other reviews) there were no bachelorette parties going on or I would have walked out the door. Yikes. The restaurant has good ambiance, the sushi rolls were delicious. I will definitely return.

Very disappointing. Unfortunately this place has really gone down hill. Last time we went it was OK, so we chalked it up to one bad evening. However, tonight's dinner confirmed that this place has really deteriorated. Our relatively small order, 2 rolls and 3 orders of sashimi took 45 minutes to deliver. The fish on the rainbow roll was dry and tasteless. The second roll, which was recommended, was better, but still not very good. Two out of the three sashimi orders were just plain bad - stringy and not fresh (black tuna and yellowtail) . The one order of marlin was OK. Unfortunately it's generally hard to find good sushi in Denver, but this place is definitely now on the lower end of the options.

Being that I'm from Omaha and I've been to the original Blue Sushi in Omaha, Nebraska; I'm going to naturally like this place. But, I must say, Blue is not just about the sushi they are also about the environment. With one side of the restaurant the "sake bomber" side, you know coming here that you're going to have a good time. Not to mention, with fun menu item names such as the "blue balls" (fried crab balls) and the "itchy salmon". The main draw of this place has to be the happy hour Monday-Saturday 4-6:30p.m. Their roll and drink specials during happy hour is where it's at. This is a fun place to go with a group for a bday party or event. My favorite drink is the "dirty blue" martini.

  • Vanessa R.

Excellent happy hour! $5 sushi rolls, $3 wines, $2 Coord Light, $5.50 martinis. You just can't beat that in downtown Denver. There are some great options for sushi rolls too. Not your standard California or spicy tuna options. Definitely vegan friendly. It's become a happy hour favorite for me!

Four stars are for the food the service was not up to par. We sat for 15 mins before anyone approached us and then when the server, grace, finally did come we got no apology or nothing and then she would disappear for periods of time. I get it was busy but still she needs to work on it. Food was amazing tho! Love the itchy salmon and blue balls!

Couldn't of picked a tastier sushi restaurant. Speciality sashimi added bold flavors to fresh fish. My peppercorn ahi tuna entree just melted in my mouth and the baked sweet potato was a mouth full of Thanksgiving Spirit! Husband tried a couple rolls, the Thriller was just that! Did I mention the jalapeño margarita? Ooooooh yeah, refreshing with a definite kick! My only complaint would be my stomach not being big enough to savor more dishes!

This place has a very nice look, and by the bar, this is a good place for sake or other drinks, but not if you fancy really good sushi. Pros: A nice relaxing atmosphere for dinner or drinks; The tea cup and pot were very authentic, and the bartender was friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu; answered all my questions. I also like the old samurai flicks playing above the bar. Cons: After my miso soup arrived, it took over 30 minutes to get my sushi, and it was not a busy night (two tables in the whole restaurant). The nigiri cuts were very slim, and the specialty roll was the size of a $6 cut roll at most restaurants. Finally, they served a fork with my chopsticks ('nuff said). If you're looking for quality sushi in Denver, I would try Sushi Den, or one of the Hapa locations.

I would have to say we had had great lunch. I would give it five stars but the order of our food came out wrong and they had forgotten to put in my sons order but they did take it off the bill. I'd give a solid 4.9 for the experience. The tuna tower is the best! Lunch was very affordable a great value and filling.

This place was surprisingly great. I was not expecting such great food and service near the 16th Street mall but this place was great. The service was well above average for a Friday night crowd. We will be back for sure!

This place is incredible! Best gyoza I've ever had! The cowgirl roll is addicting. I wanted to order another even though I was full. We also ordered the chicken satay, hot popper roll, Hawaiian roll and spicy edamame. Everything was exceptional from the martini to the rolls!

  • Jaclyn M.

My coworkers and I have come here for lunch on a couple of occasions. They serve a lunch special which includes two rolls and a soup/salad for a totally reasonable price, very filling and great sushi. The reason for the 3-star rating is the wait time at lunch. The past two times our lunch at Blue has taken almost two hours. This would be totally fine for a weekend or an evening dining experience, but since it's a work lunch we spend most of the time anxiously awaiting our food/hoping our boss won't notice our prolonged absence.

This is my favorite sushi place in downtown Denver but I have yet to have a competent waiter/waitress. They all just seem uninterested and slow. The happy hour and lunch special's are at a very good price and the quality is good as well. I know that no one aspires to be on the wait staff but would appreciate better service.

I've been coming here regularly since this place opened, so it's time to update my review: THIS IS STILL MY FAVORITE SUSHI PLACE IN DENVER AND STILL MY FAVORITE HAPPY HOUR PLACE DOWNTOWN "But what about [this well-known sushi place] or [that great sushi chef]," you might say. As far as I'm concerned, every other sushi place puts me to sleep in comparison to Blue Sushi. Blue has way more creative/delicious options, a much more fun atmosphere, and the best freakin happy hour downtown (and not just compared to other sushi places). So down to the details: HAPPY HOUR: Mon-Sat: 3-6:30pm Fri/Sat: 10:30pm-midnight Sunday: 12pm-8pm Includes $3 margaritas, $3 sake bombs, $4.50 rolls, appetizers starting at $3, and a bunch of other stuff. I recommend: + House lime margaritas - because $3! + Blue balls (tempura-fried spicy crab balls) - $4 + Ceviche (white fish and shrimp, avocado, and all the other amazing goodness) - $6 + Mussels (in a yellow curry unlike anywhere else) - $7.50 Most people would stop reading here and be sold. MUST-TRYS: + Itchy Seabass. I usually never order seabass, but this was one of the best, most decadent things I've ever tasted. Trust me when I say you HAVE to try it. + Black Tuna sashimi. I have never had anything like it, and I bet you haven't either. + Hattori Hanzo saketini. Probably the most refreshing, delicious cocktail ever. ATMOSPHERE: This place did an amazing job of creating a modern, trendy Japanese-American feel. The "sake bombers' lounge" really does have a lounge-like feel to it (think cool lighting, modern decor, and ceiling art with an old-school pinup model on it). Basically, a great place for a fun lunch, happy hour, or dinner date. It would fit right in anywhere in New York or Los Angeles. DRINKS: Great selection of sake, with some delicious affordable options. Like I said, I highly recommend the Hattori Hanzo saketini. Or the $3 happy hour margaritas are always a winner. FOOD: Don't be fooled by how trendy and fun this place looks. It has some of the best, most authentic sushi around, with fresh fish flown in every day. (And great tenderloin, too.) I don't think there's a single thing on their menu that isn't delicious, but here are my favorites: + Itchy Seabass (the most amazing baked seabass on spicy crab) + Black Tuna sashimi (tender walu marinated in a secret black sauce) + Ahi tuna tacos (sweet and spicy, tender, heavy on the tuna, delicious) + Ceviche-style white fish sashimi platter (different from any sashimi platter you'll have, probably because of the delicious lime juice) + Ceviche (amazing white fish and shrimp ceviche, with delicious wonton crisps) + River rock beef tenderloin (pieces of tender beef on hot rocks in a jalapeno ponzu) LUNCH SPECIALS: two maki (rolls) - $12 one maki & nigiri - $13 one maki & sashimi - $15 Also, I have to say, they did an amazing job with their website and social media. It's not something you see with too many restaurants, especially sushi ones.

This place is the BEST. Amazing happy hour specials. Their Martinis are delicious. Every time I go to sushi, it's always the same menu, same options. Blue Sushi has such original and creative options and they are to die for. I recommend the cowgirl & hot popper rolls. After eating here ONCE, I've already raved to all my friends about this place. Definitely becoming a regular stop for me!

Another great dining experience at Blue Sushi Sake Grill! Were greeted and seated right away by a table next to the window and it felt good with the heater on. Nathan was our server and was very friendly, gave great recommendations and efficient. We used the Yelp App to get a free spicy edamame to begin our dining adventure. Then had the freakingly delicious Steamed Sapporo Mussels, Crab Rangoons, a variety of sushi and Sapporo beer for $2-along with some great hot sake. Everything was well presented, well prepared and just awesomely yummy!! :-) Jonathan, the Manager, came by our table and he is just so nice. The place was so vibrant and you could tell everyone was enjoying their meals! Parked at the 1900 16th Street Garage for $3--yes, just $3! Only two blocks away and then walked to Lannie's Clocktower Cabaret for a show. Just a great evening all around!! :-)

Fabulous spot for happy hour but I wouldn't come here and pay regular price. The first time we went was on a Saturday afternoon for happy hour (they have an afternoon happy hour and a later evening one) and wasn't too impressed. Remarkable prices but lackluster service. So we came back one more time and it was a lot better! Happy hour is served everywhere and after some edamame (free when you check in on Yelp!) and two rolls ($4.50 a pop) we were good to go for awhile. We sat on the patio which is nice but also sketch since it is on 16th Street Mall. At least you some entertainment while noshing on discounted food. I will definitely come back for some more happy hour loving!

The lunch specials are great! Two maki and a soup or salad for $12! The maki selection for this is also broad. The quality of fish and rice here is outstanding. The shishito peppers are a great started, too. Great place for business lunches, or lunch w/ friends. Come out for dinner (even late night) and have a few sake bombs!

It was me and my girlfriends first time here and we we really enjoyed Blue Sushi Sake Grill!!! The moment we walked in the atmosphere and over all feel of the restaurant was nice. It was not dark like many other sushi bars I've been too before and the music and vibe of the staff was perfect. The guy who served us was great and gave us a few suggestions on sushi that we were new to and loved it!!! We definitely will be returning here!!!

Free spicy edamame with a yelp check in. We ordered three rolls and they were all just ok. The crunchy blue needed more crunch to live up to the name. The crunchy red had zero crunch. Per the waitresses suggestion, we ordered the thriller which sounded amazing but lacked in delivery. Everything was flavorful and fresh but nothing memorable. Beautiful restaurant with super nice servers. Great location.

This place was given high marks by a friend of mine , if you are a sushi connoisseur, this is NOT the place for you. The sushi and sashimi was okay, service was okay but ultimately what got me was the fact that I felt was WAY over priced. Even at Happy Hour getting a few items for 2 people ended up being nearly $200. Won't be going back. If you want an amazing experience with better service, better sushi/sashimi and appropriately priced--go to Izakaya Den or Sushi Den.

Ok place for a drink but the food is not worth it. We had 3 dishes to share, the ahi tuna tacos, scallops and one of the specialty sushi rolls with spicy tuna and spicy salmon The tacos were very salty, but other than that tasted ok. They were deep fried corn tortilla with squares of ahi tuna seared and avocado The scallops were awful. Chewy and cooked inside baking shells with cheese or flour sauce that covered all their taste. We had one shell each and we couldn't even be bothered with the 3rd one Then the sushi roll...from their specialty menu was supposed to have spicy salmon and spicy tuna and cucumber and red pepper ....they were wide rolls of rice with cucumber and red pepper and non existence fish. A pea size mix of spicy mayo and fish pieces was all we could find in each piece. So for $12 it was a nice serving of rice and soy sauce

Came here after wanting sushi and seeing this place on a flier. Let me begin with we got a free order of edamame for using Yelp, we chose spicy style, and it was fantastic. Then, it was also happy hour and, this place has the happy hour to beat, hands down. I got the Crunchy Red roll and the Ceviche. I'm not usually a fan of Ceviche, but this sounded amazing and tasted 10 times better. I don't know if I could come to this restaurant again and not get it, not to mention that since it was happy hour it was 6 DOLLARS. Not only a great dish, but an even better price. My friends also got the Cabo roll, the Seattle roll, the Vegetable Tempura, the Unagi roll, Shishito Peppers, Zuke Maguro and the Blue Balls. All AWESOME. The staff was amazing, never wrote anything down but got every order correct, and got it out to us fast enough that we almost couldn't order more fast enough. If you're anywhere near LoDo, you need to come to this restaurant. Especially if you love sushi.

This place was amazing! Hubby and I sat down at the sushi bar, and the waiter brought over two glasses of water - one with ice and one without. One of the wait staff overheard my husband and I talking about what we wanted to drink and heard that my husband preferred water without ice - so it was brought how we like it without us asking - that really impressed us! We told our waiter that it was out first time at Blue Sushi and he took time to explain the menu and his favorite items - I really love when waiters do that! Then, the food - we ordered mainly from the sushi menu although we did take advantage of the free spicy edamame from the Yelp check-in too! We had the cherry bomb nigiri, rainbow roll, and the blue volcano - all of it was super fresh and super delicious! To top it off, we had the most amazing dessert - chocolate spring rolls - I would go back just for that! The restaurant itself is really cool and has a great ambiance too. Loved this place and will surely be back!

GREAT SERVICE, GREAT HAPPY HOUR, GREAT SUSHI. We met some out of town friends there and we had never been there. We all really enjoyed it. We made it just before happy hour and by the time we ordered it was 6:40 pm and our waiter still gave us the special. The blue balls, jalapeno popper roll, itchy salmon and the Tako Yaki Tori we're my favorite! The edamame hummus was really good too! The place was really cool too with a big fish tank close to the ceilings.

My friends and I came here for happy hour on a Sunday night (noon-8pm). When we sat down, the happy hour menu was already placed at each person's seating so we could start thinking about what to get before the waiter got to us. It would have been nicer if there was a ordering sheet on the table too, but that we had to ask the server for. One perk about this place is that they have a check-in deal to get a free edamame starter. For hot dishes, we ordered calamari, chicken satay, tako yaki tori, and river rock beef tenderloin. The calamari was pretty good, especially with their sauce. The only downside is that the calamari comes with a lot of fried bell peppers and other vegetables, which was delicious too, but you definitely get a lot less calamari in the mix. The chicken satay was very average. The chicken was a bit dry, and the flavoring was just alright. Probably not something I'd ordered again. The tako yaki tori was skewers with mini-octopus. It was really good, especially with the slightly charred flavor, but a little on the pricier side ($9). The river rock beef tenderloin was the only thing we ordered that was NOT on the happy hour menu. The only reason why we ordered it was because it smelled amazing for the adjacent table and we just had to try it. The meat is super tender and the flavoring just makes you want more. The six of us devoured this dish in seconds. For sushi, we ordered blue balls, south pacific, crunchy l.a., hawaiian roll, snow white, and crunchy blue. I personally enjoyed the blue balls, hawaiian roll, and south pacific the most. The blue balls roll doesn't have rice in it and comes in 4 pieces, but the crab it didn't feel like a roll just filled with purely imitation crab, which made it more unique. The hawaiian roll was unique too because it had a piece of pineapple in the middle, fried on the outside, and passion fruit sauce to finish. Lastly, South Pacific was great because it had a piece of eel tempura on top of the roll, and the cream cheese just gives it a nice touch that feels like the whole thing is melting in your mouth. Last but not least, we had the ice cream tempura to complete our meal. All of us really enjoyed the crust, and within 1 minute, the only thing left was the ice cream in the middle. Definitely super filling and the 6 of us only ordered one to share. Even ordering this much, each person ended up paying about 18 dollars per person (after tip and tax). I would definitely come back for this awesome happy hour again!

This place was cute. We sat outside since it was nice, and the inside is kind of retro chic. I like sushi but I don't crave it nor is it my number one choice of food. However, I was surprised I ate almost everything and it was good! My favorite thing on the menu was this type of beef that was served on 4 round rocks and it was sizzling when it came out. I forgot what it was called, but it definitely was one of the best things I tried. The sushi rolls are fresh and so is the edamame (they have regular as well as spicy). My suggestion would to order several things and split them. Even though I loved the ones I ordered (Seattle and California), I am so glad I tried the rolls everyone else ordered. The service was good. They don't actually know what a Bellini is, but other than that the waitresses were pretty on top of everything. Overall good experience and I will eat here again.

This is definitely one of the best sushi places I've had in Colorado. I am from San Diego at it seems that over there I found tons of places that served exotic rolls for a good price and a good size. Living here It took me a while to find that, this place is cute and the perfect place for a dinner date no matter if its with friends or a loved one! definitely coming back to try their happy hour!

Beautiful restaurant, so much potential! I really want this place to do well. I live close and adore Southglenn. Blue Sushi has improved in the short time it has been open. Food is pretty good, great rolls, yummy miso. Tuna tower is fabulous. Hot rock Beef so good. Happy hour prices are nice and cocktails are great. My issue with Blue Sushi is the service and the people that they hire. It seems as if every person in this place is new to the service industry, including the sushi chefs. High school kids at the front door that ignore you and don't bother giving you a menu or say thank you when you leave. Wait staff that simply can't pick up dirty dishes. I asked the waitress to please inquire about ingredients in the tempura batter because of a dairy allergy - she said they were too busy to ask! I hope the owners it management read this. Dinner here is not cheap, as I'm sure the lease prices in Southglenn for this space so it's important that people come back! I really hope they work on improving service and staff so they can remain open and succeed. If you want to compete with Land of sushi or places such as Sushi Den - first step, improve your staff, they are sub par.

A nice place with good ambience. The staff was very kind and knowledgeable. Our waiter also gave us some excellent recommendations that we tried. The food arrived and had an excellent presentation. The sushi was amazing, I recommend the beach roll. I loved this place and will absolutely be coming back.

Service was great! Our waitress was very knowledgable and had great recommendations. She recommended the beach roll ( which was delicious )! As for the sushi, it was more than decent but not the greatest I've had in Denver. We had the Hamachi and tuna nigiri, both of which I had zero complaints with! The blue volcano and rainbow roll just didn't have much pizzaz and flavor to them as I had hoped! If you love spicy food, definitely try the Primo's Fire, it was a habanero sauce that will leave your lips sizzling!

I've been twice now for lunch and I was even more impressed the second time around. I've become a huge fan. The decor is very nice and comfortable. The service is fantastic, which is really important during lunch. The lunch specials are great! Today I chose the 2 Maki Rolls, which comes with your choice of soup or salad ($12). I chose the salad and had the choice of a ginger carrot dressing or a wasabe soy dressing. I chose the wasabe soy dressing which was incredibly delicious. The salad was super fresh. I enjoyed the Philadelphia Roll (smoked salmon, cream cheese, scallion, Japanese cucumber) and the South Pacific Roll (eel tempura, cream cheese, pineapple, scallion, eel sauce). Both were delicious. Both times I have had lunch here I have thoroughly enjoyed everything I've had. I highly recommend this place and can't wait to try it for dinner soon.

The sushi and the Sunday deal was good but the service was horrendous. I sat at the bar and the bartender (Kira? 4/26/15) I believe was her name wanted nothing to do with me and disappeared for almost my whole stay! She took my order and handed the sushi to me. She wanted me out of there and it was painfully obvious...

Decided to come here tonight for happy hour after a recommendation from our driver. We were seated right away and our waitress was really great. For the cons.... It literally took over a half hour to receive our edamame (our first course before sushi) then another 20 minutes for our sushi. Luckily it wad totally worth the wait but a little annoying... Now for the WORST part... The bar tender literally spilled a whole margarita down my back. He claimed the top of the shaker fell of while he was shaking it and it literally flew across the bar and hit my whole back at the table behind the bar. It even hit my boyfriend who was on the other side of the table. Even more annoying.. He yelled from behind the bar "sorry" and someone else came to wipe our table off of all the drink. Still didn't solve the fact that there was margarita all down my arms and back. Basically ruined our first experience!! Probably would have been a great place if I wasn't wearing someone else's drink, and the staff did nothing about it.

Delicious dirty martini (dirty blue)! Comes with Stuffed blue cheese olives, my absolute favorite in dirty martinis! Must try the tako yaki tori!! It's grilled marinated octopus..... THE BOMB!! The cherry bombs are also one of my favorites!! Shishito peppers are also really good (if you like salty things, who doesn't?!!). Overall great place awesome happy hour on Sunday's it's 12-8pm!!!

This place has gotten much better over the months. We come here to eat and even bring friends from out of town. Waitstaff has dramatically improved as well as the hostesses. Food is also on the upbeat as well. I'm starting to think my first experience could've been an off day for the restaurant. Since then, I have been back numerous times and left with a full stomach and a smile. :)

Their best offers an American styling of crab/Asian cuisines/ even some Peruvian type ceviche. Few things- The crab cakes are very good but they are mostly cream cheese. (Surprised?) Other types of sushi/ specifically ahi seem purée Explains the cheap prices and trendy setting but there are much better options in Metro Denver for really superb sushi!

We came here for our anniversary dinner after having them suggested by a former employee. We started with the free spicy edamame with our yelp check in and Samurai Saketinis, which were fantastic. The spicy Edamame wasn't just spicy, it had great flavor. The drinks were smooth and flavorful. Next out, we had the River Rock Beef Tenderloin. This is served raw, and on REALLY hot river rocks. It was absolutely amazing, the meat was super tender and well complimented by the Jalapeno topping. We ordered 3 types of sushi, the Truffle Sake, Seattle Roll, and the Saba Oshizushi. The fish was fresh on all, and each roll had a unique and enjoyable flavor. We finished our meal with a chocolate spring roll with home made raspberry ice cream. it was crunchy and sweet. The pricing was a lot lower than I expected, due to the location of the restaurant and just how much food we ordered.

Megan was so kind to send me a gift card to come back! Delicious yet again! They have a fun drink menu that I highly suggest trying. Corzo cucumber jalapeño margarita was sweet but fresh! Primo's Fire was FANTASTIC. It's got a good kick to it and I could literally eat the spicy masago with a spoon. It was definitely different, more savory than you expect from sushi. Not big on octopus but it's chopped small enough not to be a nuisance. I had to google walu because our server didn't know what it was... Which I later found out is escolar, which can be dangerous to consume. Convenient. But it's a small amount and I feel fine so far... Just to educate you, explosive diarrhea is a reported side effect for larger amounts of this oily white fish. I think I'll order it without next time. The beach roll is very good too. It's got a nice blend of tastes and textures, not too crazy, maybe a little safer. The service was good.. She took a while to come but otherwise, nothing stood out.

Places I usually go for sushi: Sushi Sasa, Sushi Den, Sushi Hai, Hapa Sushi and now I will add Blue Sushi. I LOVED the Cherry bombs - once you have tried these - you will order plate after plate. Just a warning :) I really like this place. Everything is fresh and little details such as cucumber in the water is a nice touch. Today for lunch I tried the Sailor salad and added salmon....was very light and the salmon was cooked perfectly. Give this place a try. Very reasonably priced.

Fantastic happy hour with wonderful food. The drinks are creative and use fresh fruit juice and the rolls were just incredible. We ate and ate and ate! Nice atmosphere and good people-watching. Fun bar. Just ask the waiter for recommendations and you won't be disappointed. Definitely going back.

  • Fadzai M.

The service here was great!! What I loved about it is the fact that I got there two minutes before they closed and they still treated me like I was there at opening time. I wasn't too big on the Japanese liquor but that's just a lack of acquired taste. The sushi rolls were delicious especially considering that we got there last minute yet no rush was given on our food. I will be back in the future!

I LOVE BLUE! The sushi and drinks are soooo great. If you're into fresh clean tastes I would recommend the Machu Picchu Roll, it's like ceviche in a roll. Amazing. They also have a variety of martinis!

WOW!!! FANTASTIC MEAL!!! I went here totally off Yelp recommendations, and I was not disappointed. Beautiful space, amazing waitstaff and exceptional menu. We tried both sake flights; excellent selections for each. I loved the samurai saketini -- light, simple and delicious. In addition to the alcoholic splendor, the spicy edamame is tasty -- well worth the Yelp check in. But when it comes sushi, this is truly the best I've had in Colorado. I say this as a die-hard Sushi Den fan (don't tell Mom). We asked for the chef's recommendations for the freshest of the fresh and ended up with an amazing Wagyu sashimi and mind-blowing tuna. LOVED the cherry bomb and the itchy sea bass. For rolls, the thriller with avocado was amazing. But the real treat was the primo's fire -- how do they get all that fishy goodness into one roll? Unlike anything I've ever had before. Do yourself a favor and eat here. It's not cheap, but it's worth every penny!

Great food and they have fantastic happy hour deals. Will return again for food. First time here the service was great. Second time here we had a large table of 8 or 9 people and the service wasn't as good. Everything took forever to come out and the restaurant was only 1/4 full. What ruined my experience that night was my martini that took 20 minutes to come out, and wasn't even cold or had a layer of ice on top as a martini should. I knew it took 20 minutes because I ordered it right before happy hour ended. I asked to speak to a manager and he handled it well. He remade one that was icey on top and took both off of our tab. I know things like can happen in a restaurant so I will return again and hope to have a better experience/service like the first time.

I eat more sushi here than any other place in Denver. They also make good drinks. However, I think they need to come down a bit in price because they have issues with consistency. The rolls on the other hand are great! Plus the place is pretty unique on the inside! At least you know this place is safe ;)

Happy Hour Sushi, is there anything better? We went back to try this place a 2nd time because our first experience was not the best and all I can say is, the Itchy Salmon is amazing! Definitely get it on happy hour so you can order more than one because only 2 come to a plate. It was amazing flavor! The sweet chili sauce in the hotel cali is good and the mango in the hawaiian is great! We loved the pineapple flavor in the south pacific. We were very pleased by our experience & even more impressed with the businesses customer service and their eagerness to please and satisfy. The seating is a little cramped but nothing to worry about. The parking however is TERRIBLE in this location, ask where the $3 parking is! It's not a far walk.

If isn't for their kick ass happy hour from 4-6:30 Monday - Saturday, I'd definitely still go for the the itchy salmom, the baked salmon nigiri, and the yellowtail sashimi with jalapeno lightly covered in a delicious ponzu sauce. As for the ambiance, I really got a kick out of the edgy yet Warhol-like pop art decor and the deliberate copious amount of flat screens above the bar playing classic Jackie Chan and the like. The bar plays a central role in the layout of the restaurant, reassuring guests that they aren't just about fresh fish, but a good time, too. The service is probably the best attribute of this downtown dining establishment. Every time I am treated as if I am the only customer in the whole restaurant. The food is fast and the menu is dense. There's no way you can't have a good time here. Pop in before or after

Love the late night happy hour here. The sushi rolls are $5 and the give you good options to choose from, not just your plain 'ol California roll. The cucumber martini they had was delicious, and during happy hour it was $5.50 - love saving a penny here and there!

  • Phil H.

Amazing happy hour. The rolls are very inexpensive during their pretty generous discount times, plus free edamame when you check in on Yelp! Gotta love a business that loves us back! Dining room is clean, cool, plenty of room. Bar area also has some cool artwork, and is set up pretty well for people watching, if that's your kind of thing. Their patio is sort of small, but no smaller than most other places on the 16th st mall. Parking, too, is a pain, but no more or less than anywhere else on 16th. Not too pricey, not too far, and fine service every time I've been there. No reason to change this from my go-to sushi spot.

BIG THANKS to Cheryl L. for running up to me and enthusiastically raving about Blue Sushi Sake Grill. I may have overlooked it if it weren't for her recommendations. The HH offerings are impressive and great for groups. We started with a round of $3 sake bombs, followed by $2 coors. Don't forget your Yelp check in! You get a free order of edamame (regular or spicy - get the spicy!). Your friends will thank you for being a chronic yelper. Since I was helping to order for a group of predominantly fellas, with big appetites, I immediately started checking off some of Cheryl L.'s suggestions... Blue balls (tempura spicy crab and inari) Itchy salmon (baked salmon on spicy crab) Cherry bombs (tuna with tempura rice) - my favorite of the night!! Snow white (crispy sea bass and soy paper roll) Cheryl, I was immature to laugh at the names, but you're right, I'm not laughing anymore, especially after indulging on $4 nigiri with a contemporary twist! Still hungry, we got adventurous and really took advantage of that HH list: Shishito peppers - server's suggestion, after a few beers we were in the "what the heck" stage. I wouldn't order them again, since you can easily make these at home. ceviche - nothing to write home about mango crab rangoon - umm...who doesn't like rangoons??? and who doesn't like a touch of mango in puree form?!?! spicy tako (spicy octopus) - chewy and not crunchy like it should be if it's super fresh spicy tekka maki (spicy tuna) and shrimp tempura maki were standard and good fillers for this table of hungry people unagi maki (eel, cream cheese and avocado) - I don't do cream cheese in my rolls, so I didn't try it, but the table ate it all and they looked satisfied. I'd say a 3.75. Bottom line is I'll be back again for another HH! Especially if I'm headed out with a group. Plenty of solid sushi for cheap! I'll also be back with less people to sit at the sushi bar, just as the sushi gods intended me to enjoy it.

Delicious Seafood and Gluten-free options. I love sushi and was absolutely certain that that was what I was going to order at Blue Sushi Sake Grill during Restaurant Week. But, when it came down to ordering, I went with the Sea Bass. It was incredible. Very crispy on the outside and tender inside. It was plated beautifully as well, with big spears of asparagus and fried rice and a drizzle of ginger-fruit sauce. It is very rare that I go to a sushi place and order a cooked entree, but I'm so glad I did. They were very accommodating with regard to gluten-free options. Many entrees and rolls are or can be modified to be gluten-free. Tip: The shisito peppers appetizer is gluten free and delicious! I had been wanting to try this place for a while, since I had heard they have a great sake menu. They did not disappoint. I especially like that they had several of their sakes by the 2oz glass, so you could try several rather than ordering bottles. And, I love the thorough descriptions of each. Their happy hour Pearl sake for just $2 was fabulous and I love that they let you have happy hour pricing both at the bar and at the tables. I will definitely be back to try more.

Blue Sushi is great for lunch and/or happy hour. Try it for lunch, and you just might be back for happy hour the same day. Their $12 lunch special includes soup or salad (carrot-ginger dressing? Yes please!) and two maki rolls. For a couple dollars more, you can add nigiri or sashimi. One of my favorite rolls is the Eden. You won't even notice it's vegetarian because of the amazing edamame hummus on top of this roll filled with tempura sweet potatoes. Some of my other favorites are the cabo, hot popper, and the hotel cali. I just recently had the cowgirl... and... YEE-HAH! It was AWESOME. With bbq paper and a pickle and tempura onion filling, this is another vegetarian roll where you won't miss the meat. With great prices on beers, cocktails and sake bombs, you'll want to return for happy hour! Check in on Yelp for your free edamame to nosh on while you make your difficult decisions of what to eat/drink from all the choices on the menu. If you're not into sushi, try the chicken wraps (DE-LISH) or the chicken satay.

Service was fantastic and noninvasive which my wife and I really liked. The only reason I'm being unnecessarily tight with the 4 and not 5 stars is simply that $75 with tip and me still hungry is a little steep. Place is fantastic and the food is really good. Highly recommend

I think Blue is an excellent place to get sushi in Denver! I am originally from Florida and have become slightly particular of the seafood I eat. The seafood at Blue Sushi always tastes fresh and delicious. Also, you can't beat the happy hour. Most of their sushi rolls are $4.50 during hh among many other great deals. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone trying to fix your sushi craving.

Just an update on this, I introduced another group of friends to this place, and it was every bit as good as the first two times I was there. I tried a few new items, the hot popper sushi roll and the crab roll, and both were SO good. The ambience is very cool, it's got a very modern feel with the blue lights and the fish tanks, but the lighting makes it cozy at the same time. Our server was very helpful and friendly, made spot-on recommendations and shared a lot of very specific things that he enjoys, which helped us branch out and try some new things. I will continue to recommend this place to anyone I can.

Amazing amazing amazing! What an incredible variety of unique choices. We had a free spicy edamame thanks to yelp. We followed up with oh-so-awesome vegetable wraps. Never did I think I would enjoy eating giant leaves with my hands, but these were phenomenal. The edamame hummus inside the wraps was so good! We finished off with the unique vegetarian sushi options. Have never been to a better place for Japanese as a vegetarian. We will be back, many times.

We went back again for another fantastic experience! We were there for our bosses birthday and little did we know there was hidden talent on the staff. Nathan was kind enough to sing Happy Birthday and the beautiful operatic melody that came out of his mouth was a surprise and a delight! The whole place erupted in applause. Not only can he sing he gave us great service. We were with a large group and nothing fazed him. He kept up with every request and always had a smile on his face. He was GREAT! We ordered the veggie tempura -DELISH-, the mussels -they were FANTASTIC- and the Spicy Edamame -a FAV! We also ordered the Cherry Bomb, Itchy Salmon, Yellowtail Sashimi, Spicy Tekka, and more...All were (and always are) so tasty! Behind the bar, Ann & Stephanie kept the drinks flowing. They were both polite and courteous while keeping up with the mad rush of drink orders from the busy bar area and restaurant. Nathan, Ann & Stephanie are all assets and awesome at what they do! We ran into our server (Liz) from our previous trip in and she remembered us, we couldn't believe it. She came over to say hello and was just as nice as the previous visit. My friend and I will continue to come here but with such an exceptional experience the group we came with was won over by the delicious food and relaxed atmosphere.

I've been a here few times for lunch and once for dinner. It does lean on the trendy side being in LoDo but the prices aren't too bad. Service is quick during the workday lunch hours. They have a mean citrus salmon entrée. Presentation and flavor are top-notch. Check it out if you need a break from sushi rolls.

Ughh, service took for-ev-er. I'm pretty sure they forgot about us. I would comment on the food, but who knows? We were struggling to get back to work on time due to the 45 minutes waiting to even order drinks. So, we scarfed down our food and ran out the door. I can't even tell you what I ate.

This place has happy hour until 8p on Sundays...and that happy hour is actually really really good! Great deals on both sushi and drinks. The sushi may not be top of the line but it's good a the price is fantastic. Great option if you're looking for happy downtown. My only criticism: kill bill playing on repeat wasn't the most appetizing thing to watch during dinner.

Portions are pretty small for the price. But I loved the unique sashimi - tried the truffle salmon and the pepper crusted seared tuna. Topped off with a simple salmon roll, which was meh at best. Service at the bar was excellent.

Im a Sushi Aficionado. And not knowing what to expect because its hit or miss in Denver i was leery. The restuarant has a nice set up. I sat at the bar with the TV's. And had a awesome server/bartender. She let me know quickly it was happy hour and gave me a happy hour menu and the regular menu. The Mango Crab Rangoon which my server suggested were spot on delicious and stuffed with crab. Hawaiian Roll was great. Then I followed it up with a Philadelphia roll. I know I know. Kinda normal but it was delicious as well. The Flavors in the South Pacific roll were spot on, and I was adventorous with a Negi Hama roll. Had some Pineapple infused Vodka which was smooth. And Rice Sake. It would be nice to see Some Desserts pop up on the menu though. Hence the 4 stars. Overall im Impressed with the atmosphere and the service, and even the Non Happy Hour prices arent bad at all. Since the Sushi Spots in Downtown are somewhat limited im glad Blue Sushi is here. And hopefully here to stay.

What an excellent meal. The decor is very modern and contemporary with lots of natural light. I sat at the sushi bar and had a great time. Service was outstanding and my server made several great suggestions. My two favorites were the truffle salmon sashimi and the black tuna.

Went to the Grand Opening Party and was blown away by the amount of food and drink being offered. Sponsored by Sapporo the beer was flowing freely as was the food from the kitchen and sushi bar. Favorites of the evening: Starters: Calamari - sesame crusted squid, tempura veggies and a great miso aioli - light and tasty. New World Sushi Menu: Truffle salmon- seared with a truffle ponzu sauce, strawberries, micro greens and black tobiko - sublime! My #1 of the night. Kampachi crudo - cherry tomato, shallot, cilantro, sea salt and olive oil - yum! Hot Plates: River Rock beef tenderloin- thinly sliced and seared to your liking on hot rocks - can you say fun? Jalapenos added a kick for sure. Sushi: Tidal wave- shrimp tempura, spicy crab, avocado, ponzu and their creamer thriller sauce - it worked because we were thrilled. The beach- albacore, spicy tuna, spicy crab, burdock root, avocado, cilantro and jalapeno with a ponzu sauce - it brought the heat. Sashimi: Sake toro, tuna toro and and diver scallops - all incredibly fresh, generous slices and served in small bento boxes on a bed of ice - I did not even use soy sauce. Dessert: they ran out of the strawberry creme brûlée which sounded delish so we went with the fried ice cream which easily served the four of us and the chocolate spring rolls - a great way to cap off a fantastic meal. The staff was friendly, outgoing and a well oiled team. They knew the dishes and made excellent suggestions. The general manager stopped by to chat and is a genuinely friendly and warm guy - lots of positive energy. A very extensive menu with multiple choices for all including choices for non-sushi eaters including a: pepper filet, coconut chicken and grilled chicken lettuce wraps so a great place that truly has something for everyone. Gluten free is offered as well as some very innovative veggie sushi rolls. Only slight drawback of the evening was getting used to the metal chopsticks - I was not a fan of them. A cool vibe without feeling too hipster I am excited to go back with the hubby and try out some more rolls. If the level of friendly, efficient service and food quality remain how it was this evening then Blue Sushi has a hit on their hands.

This place is awesome. I'm hesitant about having any kind of fish being so far away from any coast AND I'm kind of a sushi snob, so I don't usually get my hopes up, but Blue Sushi was SO GOOD! I can only remember the name of one of the rolls we had, which was the Hot Popper, and it was delicious and really different. The sushi bar is beautiful and I loved the big screen with all of the crazy looking underwater creatures. I also remember saying, "This would be a good place for a first date because if it got super awkward you could really just stare at the fish on the screen for hours..." Our waitress was really sweet and helpful. They also had a good selection of beer... didn't have the sake but it looked delicious as well. Definitely will be going back next time I'm in the area.

This place is a bit overrated but gets traffic due to its location. First the good. The rice is actually very good. It's moist and has the right touch of rice vinegar and sugar. This ratio is surprisingly hard to find at many sushi joints in Denver. If you ever make it at home you'll know what I mean. The bad. The fish all around was mediocre. It received "meh" from everyone (14 people). Overall it's too pricey for the quality of fish

Overall very good sushi and reasonably priced. Especially during happy hour! A lot of fried rolls but they aren't exactly your typical sushi joint.

To borrow from Lloyd Christmas, "I like it a lot". I've been here about 4 times and it's been consistently delicious. And....their Sunday happy hour runs from 12pm-8p. I love raw fish but I also really enjoyed the Hawaiin roll. Tempura fried, salmon, crab, mango and mirin mango purée. Lovely! During our last happy hour visit, 2 apps, 3 House Margaritas, sodas and LOTS of sushi cost $60 for 3 people.

This place is my second favorite sushi place in Colorado. The fish is FRESHHHHHH. Move over Hapa there is a new sushi house in town. This reminds me of Hapa because they are both more Americanized sushi... (ie special sauces, tempura battered, sweet chili glaze) as opposed to authentic sushi. This place has a cool atmosphere, a great happy hour, and an awesome staff. They also run a pretty sweet 5280 restaurant week option. Their calamari is awesome and includes mixed veggies that have been tempura battered as well. Their spicy edamame is a must try. Delicious! As for the rolls, I haven't had a bad roll here but my favorite is the Hotel Cali ( tempura fried, spicy crab, cream cheese, jalapeño, avocado, sweet chili sauce ) and the hot popper ( smoked salmon, cream cheese, jalapeño tempura, wrapped in yellow soy paper, drizzled with spicy sauce). Everything here is delicious and I crave it on a bi-weekly basis. They also have great beer specials and happy hour all day on Sundays.

Not a thing to dislike. River rock tenderloin is a must, fish were super fresh. Group of 8 + baby on Saturday night place was full but we had excellent service. We added few dishes three different times during our dinner it came out with in 10 min. never had that fast service in sushi bar before. We'll go back.

I'll start out with the good news. The manager and my waitress were really nice. And, the fish was fresh. It stops there. I ordered a chirashi bowl for lunch. It's not on the menu, but the sushi chef said he knew what it was. It's a bowl of rice, topped with pickled veggies, and crowned with sashimi. What I ordered and what I got are two different things. I received a HUGE bowl of rice with shredded, dried, seaweed, topped with eight pieces of sushi. Not a pickled veggie in sight!! When I asked the sushi chef where the veggies were, he said "Everyone makes chirashi bowls differently." I replied "That may be the case, but the three main ingredients are rice, fish and pickled veggies." So, with great flourish (!!) he presented me with a tablespoon of microscopically chopped pickled veggies (normally they're in thick slices or chunks) and a tablespoon of seaweed salad. Seriously? The manager was really nice, and took $5 off of my bill, the fish was fresh, but I didn't get what I ordered...

For Sunday Happy Hour, this is the place to be! Everything was very reasonably priced and we ate and drank a LOT for just over $50. Cocktails: We tried quite a few, but my favorite was the Hattari Hanso, named for the character in Kill Bill: it was sake, cucumber-infused vodka and lime. Very refreshing. We started with a lettuce wrap, which came on an adorable cafeteria-style tray dish. The compartments held Bibb lettuce leaves, spicy shredded chicken, sesame noodles, vegetables, and a cilantro dipping sauce. The Bibb leaves were much more flexible and flavorful than iceberg, and all the textures and flavors were fantastic together. A great starter! We also tried several sushi rolls: they were well-prepared, but I wasn't a fan of the flake-style eel and crab -- I prefer actual chunks of meat, and theirs was more of a paste. The crunchy cabbage roll was probably my favorite. The atmosphere is pretty cool: a huge aquarium, kung fu on the TV, chill background music. We would definitely come back, especially for the happy hour menu!

A solid, reasonably-priced sushi joint that you won't be embarrassed to bring a discriminate date to. Don't expect Aurora prices but definitely cheaper than Hapa, Aoba, Izakaya etc. Don't miss their happy hour--great selection of discounted rolls and cheap Sapporos.

Unbelievable!!! Delicious! Hawaiian roll, Cali roll, miso was an amazing twist on deliciousness! With mushrooms and tofu! A MUST GO if you're in downtown Denver!!

Downtown parking. Desserts were meh. But plenty of tables so you don't have to wait and the staff is incredibly friendly. I ended up getting the tuna tower which was good and the beach roll. Even though both were tasty, it wasn't the best sushi I've ever had (izakaya den). Great place to go to before a night out or for a girls night!

This is one of my favorite sushi restaurants. The rolls are delicious and fresh. My favorite is the Crunchy Blue. We always try something new when we go. Last time it was the Crunch LA. We were not disappointed. I also had the Blue Bellini - very strong. If you want to try it and are nervous of new sushi places, go during happy hour. It's very affordable then and not too busy.

The fact that they were playing Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III on the big screen merits one more star for this joint. That being said I can't give a glowing review of this place but I'll do my best to tell it like it is. Yes, there is a happy hour special. If there weren't I don't think I would be coming back without my parents so they can pay. Despite the supposed "special," four people still managed to rack up a $110 tab which is not cheap in my book. The good thing is the sushi rolls come with many pieces - many small pieces. This is another case of a thin slab of eel which they tried to pass off as unagi -it's more crunchy than slimy. Call me crazy but I like my eel to be so big and flavorful that it bursts in your mouth. The other rolls were ok - your basic California Roll with a dollop of cream cheese was nice. The mango crab rangoon appetizer was tasty but each serving came with only five itsy bitsy baby pieces. The sauce was solid. They have $5.5 specialty martinis which are fun but not very strong. I managed to put down two of them before I realized I would never pay full price for just one. At least they had good ole trusty Coors Light ready to go for $3. I do think the physical space is nice with lots of room for parties large or small. The bathrooms aren't awesome as they are equipped for 1-2 people at a time...but those two people had better be prepared to be very intimate while in the WC. Service with a smile? Not hardly. It wasn't that our server was rude but when you walk around with a scowl that kind of energy passes on to the customer. There was a bit of banter which eased the situation but a smile will go a long way. You don't have to be Mary Sunshine but at least be welcoming. Over all I would come back to BSSG but again, I would bring the folks so they can pick up the tab - even if it's during happy hour. I fully expect to see more Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles here in the future.

This place has a great Sunday night happy hour that goes until 8pm. Just make sure you tell them when they are seating you that you're there for the happy hour because you have to be seated in a certain section in order to receive the deal! They have tons of rolls on special for $4.50. I usually order the same things but decided to be creative this time especially since they put a ton of their specialty rolls on the happy hour. The hawaiian roll was AWESOME! It was tempura fried and had a good mango sauce with just the right amount of sweetness to go with it. I ordered three rolls and a glass of wine all for $14. You can't beat that anywhere in town. And for a $3 house wine, it was pretty darn good. Two thumbs up for this place!

This may be the best lunch sushi special around. $12 for two really great rolls plus soup or salad? I'm in. They also have a few other combos for nigiri/sashimi. It's a great deal and the food is delicious. I highly recommend the spicy edamame. It's got some kick, but some really great other seasoning too. Although the jalapeno cucumber margarita is delicious, I don't recommend mixing it with the spicy edamame. Pow!

Dear [All other Sushi places in Denver]: This is hard to say this but I have to break up with you. I know it's only been a very short romance but my heart now belongs to Blue Sushi. While I know you put your heart into the sushi that you make, Blue Sushi takes it to a whole new level. They make the food sing, along with my heart and tastebuds. I adore them more than you. So it's over! Best regards, Cheryl [Now back to the regularly scheduled review]: I believe that the Sushi in Denver keeps getting better and better. I try a place and it's my favorite, then another, then another. They add fresh cucumber slices to the still water. It is refreshing and a great way to start the meal. They also have one of the best Happy Hours. $4.50 for most of their rolls and drink prices are good. We began with the Calamari - sesame-crusted squid and veggies lightly dipped in tempura and gently laid in the oil and fried to absolute perfection. Okay I have to admit I didn't actually see them fry the Calamari but it's the story that I'm telling in my head. Then we moved on to the Specialty Nigiri ($4) - Itchy Salmon (baked salmon, spicy crab, Serrano, cilantro, ponzu) and Cherry Bomb (tuna, Serrano, rice tempura, spicy sauce, ponzu). These were my two favorites and the reason I'm now in love with B.S. Then based on what the people at the next table were having we ordered the following: Snow White - crispy sea bass, avocado, burdock root, bibb lettuce, soy paper, spicy cream sauce. Hot Popper - smoked salmon, cream cheese, jalapeno tempura, soy paper, spice sauce Cabo Roll - spice tune, crab, Japanese cucumber Hawaiian Roll - tempura fried, salmon, crab, mango, mirin mango puree (this was my least favorite) There are so many choices and only so much stomach room.

I'm thrilled that I recently learned about Blue Sushi!! I've always gone to a couple of the other premier sushi spots around Denver (Wash Park and LoHi...you know who you are) because nothing downtown was worthy enough. The crazy thing is that I live 2 blocks away from Blue Sushi...can't believe it took me this long to experience this little gem! I had dinner at Blue Sushi last night and was extremely impressed with not just the quality of the food but the ambiance and service as well---especially considering it was packed! They also have a great sake menu! We started with miso and the seaweed salad...then the hamachi pop rocks (awesome!) and truffle sake (a must order!) ...then, ordered sashimi that included toro, maguro, hamachi, kajiki, and seabass....all very fresh and generous portions especially considering the quality. Oh, and the river rock beef tenderloin was excellent as well. They basically dress burning rocks with raw beef and let it cook before your eyes to your desired temperature. It's definitely worth experiencing! Blue Sushi is without question the best sushi spot downtown....and, definitely at the top of my list for the state of Colorado. Can't wait to go back especially since it's literally a 5-minute walk from my doorstep! Enjoy! Sam

I really wanted to love this place but I can't. The decor is great! The service was awesome and accommodating when we had to push our reservation back last minute! The sushi was meh... We tried 6 different rolls and not one was great. One roll had so much rice we could not see let alone taste the fish. I also hate when the rolls fall apart on the short journey from plate to mouth! Ugh you have to pick up each innard individually. All in all we will not be returning. There are plenty of other sushi places near by to get our fix.

Delicious food!! Great fusion of sushi and many other asian/american concepts. We hit them at the right time, not knowing there was a happy hour which we got many items we ordered for $5 each. Overall sushi was great, dessert just as good and Blue Dirty Martini was average. Dinner for 2 with dessert and a drink was $32.00. Amazing- where do you get that? Love the cozy atmosphere and diverse crowd, easy walk to. Yum.

We came back a second time and I have to say that our second impression of this place was not as good. The waitress was okay, she was not very knowledgeable and probably didn't care much. The food was okay and it seems what we had tried the first time was not on the menu anymore.

More sushi downtown - woot! We've been trying to go since they opened, we had plans to go on their soft opening, not knowing it was a soft opening, but when we called we were told there might be a table, there might not. So we chose to take our sushi dollars to colfax. Finally over 6 months later, we finally made it - thanks to a living social deal! We reserved a table for 4 plus a baby seat - luckily it's loud enough you can't hear the kiddo make a fuss. (good and bad that is was sooo loud) The sound level might have been due to where we were seated or possibly that there were no less than 4 birthday parties throughout the place! Staff was extremely friendly and helpful - although i'm assuming are told what to "push" on a certain day! We went with rolls this time around: Hotel Cali - come swimming in sweet hot sauce - delicious Blue Crunch - mmm Hamachi - very tasty Red Eye - wouldn't do again Blue Balls - woah - gotta do those again - and not just for the name! Matchu Pitchu - differently and limey - not my thang Killer Bee - adorable presentation and delicious! Definitely will be back, there was a whole lot of menu left to try! FYI - valet parking - $8 - well dang, why did we park next to the jet??

I've been to Blue on several occasions, because they have great happy hour specials. The Hawaiian roll is one of Blue's signature rolls on happy hour that I really enjoy. Their happy hour specials are very similar to Hapa's though, and Hapa generally has better customer service. Most of the servers I have had at Blue have been rather cold and unfriendly.

Really disappointed. If you want to go to one of those trendy sushi places that cares more about "being cool" (they have metal chopsticks... Do you know how hard it is to eat sushi with metal chopsticks?) than they do about their sushi, this is another one of those places. Typical fried rolls with sauce masking the flavor. Typical "innovative" ingredients like pineapple inside the rolls, which is just wrong... Eww). Typical overpriced food downtown. I won't be back.

This establishment is pretty blatantly racist in its decor...but I'm willing to overlook that fact considering the great service and sushi. Our waiter, Nick, was incredibly patient and accommodating with our rowdy party of 19. Thanks, Nick, for the seamless payment process which could have been a nightmare considering how many people were involved! As for the food...FLAWLESS. And I didn't even taste the sushi! I was beyond pleased with my flavorful salad and according to the moans uttered by all the sushi eaters in my group, the food was heavenly. To all the couples celebrating Valentines' Day (literally everyone in the restaurant besides our group of recent college grads), sorry for the obnoxious but necessary sake bombing!

I usually love Blue, but this one star is solely for their customer service. With friends in town for the holiday, I called ahead to make sure they were having their happy hour as normal. The woman I spoke to said they were having happy hour until 6:30. So we bundled up and went an hour out of our way to eat there, only to be told at 5:32 that happy hour was no longer available. The hostess said that they shut it down early because of the holiday--which was exactly WHY I CALLED AHEAD. She then said that they had only decided 20 minutes beforehand to shut it down early, which tells me that the owners saw they were busy and thought they could make more if they pulled happy hour away from their unsuspecting guests. While I love the food, I won't be back. Any owners who put their own revenue over the trust of their guests makes me weary of their business practice.

Blue Sushi has really great HH menu and I love that they do HH on weekend evenings Friday, Saturday from 10:30 to midnight - this is what got them the 4 stars. Great choices on the HH menu and amazing price. The food was good but slightly on the saltier side for my taste, which is really rare for an Asian Fusion or Asian restaurant. I really like the 'Blue Balls' with fried inari skin and spicy crab in the middle. Great HH drinks selection though I wished they had draft sapporo on HH special. They had sake bombs $3 (great deal) and house wines and marg and coors draft but no Japanese brew for HH price, which is strange for a Japanese place. The sushis are pretty tasty. One of my pet peeves when I go get sushi is the craftsmenship of the sushi chefs. My friend's dad is a sushi chef..... When they can't even cut the pieces at 'almost' even pieces it tells me they are not trained. At least not trained very well. The simple spicy sushi rolls are uneven and aren't really sticking together... I get that it's late night HH, doesn't mean you can slack off when people are paying less. The looks of the sushi weren't very pleasing but they tasted good. This is why I took away a star from 4 stars. Also they had electronic music on repeat... (techno of some sort) it wasn't very pleasing either. Overall the atmosphere is great with the exception of poor music and poor chef techniques. Don't get me wrong, I'd still come back for late night happy hour... but I might not come back for their normal pricing stuff.

OMG we love this place!! Best sushi in Denver! Maybe you don't believe us compared to Sushi Den, etc... But try it! Get the calamari which is fried to tempura perfection and then Cali roll was sensational. Despite some construction, the FOOD here is magnificent! Ahhh. So happy

Wish I could do 4.5 Stars! Our server was amazing, nice, courteous and just seemed to know the right time to show up. :-) It was the Zombie Crawl day so it was fairly busy, but the service was perfectly timed. The only complaint was that they lost the Crab Ragoons (sp) order but brought it out several minutes later and took it off the bill! We will return!! Thanks for such a wonderful evening!!!

this place is very good!!! they have a great happy hour!!! wonderful ceviche, they know how to do it for sure. the waiter suggested the cherry bomb, that was amazing!!! everything seemed very fresh, and walking in, there was no stink. the only reason for 4 stars was that the service on kitchen items was a little slow and had to ask for wasabi a couple of times. i will go again though

Meh, meh, meh. I got a hankering for sushi on a Sunday night, had a 'free maki roll from hh menu' coupon, and hh here is from 12pm-8pm on Sundays. Kudos for that. We were able to snag two seats at the bar, and then got to town on some $3 margaritas. These were pretty decent and boozy. I went on to order spicy edamame (complimentary of my yelp check in), shishito peppers, snow white roll, vlt roll, and an order of the 'new world sashimi' Truffle Sake. Mistakes, mistakes. The two rolls were all rice, way way too much, I could barely make out the contents. The shishito peppers were drenched in an overly salted sauce that was too much after only a few takes. The edamame was fine, I've had them there before, and it's kind of hard to mess those up. Yes the truffle salmon sashimi was pretty tasty, but not worth the $10 price tag. The service was good, I swear we had 4 different people serve/wait on us. Overall I was underwhelmed and kinda disappointed, so many people have hyped the happy hour here. Anyhow, glad I got it out of my system with a free roll and an order of edamame-thanks Blue Sushi Sake Grill

Blue Sushi, you are my kind of sushi place! 5 stars for location. (Valet and street parking available). 5 stars for atmosphere. (Inside is clean, modern and open.) 5 stars for food. (Good quality sashimi for nigiri or some creative rolls.) 5 stars for drinks. (Interesting cocktails and martinis on the menu.) 5 stars for service. (Efficient, friendly and accommodating.) 5 stars for being able to host large groups. (Came for a friend's birthday party.) I've been only one time for a friend's b-day party (9 people) and I can't wait to return for more. Our 9-top was small compared to the almost 20-top table next door. But even with that many large groups, service was not slow. [Warning for groups: the bill cannot be split by seat, so dine with a group you trust to split the bill fairly!] We had edamame, shoshito peppers (tasty, but not hot!) and a huge sushi boat packed with sashimi, nigiri and an assortment of rolls. I had the Kyoto Connection Martini (grey goose vodka, tozai 'living jewel' junmai, fresh lime, simple syrup). When I took a first sip it didn't taste right--it was way salty! I mentioned this to the waitress and she offered to either have the bartender remix the same drink or bring me a different drink on the menu that I might like better. Shortly after, she came back and said the bartender tasted my drink and said that it was definitely mixed incorrectly, and provided me a new one. It was exactly the drink that I was looking forward to, so I'm really glad they re-mixed it for me! Looking forward to dining here again! Oh, and thanks for the edamame coupon for checking in on Yelp! ;)

I found this restaurant in Omaha Nebraska after reading a newspaper article which listed the best sushi in the world existing in Omaha. ( that was not a typo!!) When it opened in Denver I was thrilled. I've been two times, both times for happy hour. Prices are outrageously low. We keep ordering and ordering until my 19 year old son is done. And we walk out with a bill that's so reasonable. Hawaiian and crunchy blue are two of my favorite rolls. South Pacific is excellent too. I'm a little worried that this place may not make it, as in Omaha there is a line down the street to get in, and this place hasn't been busy the two times I have visited. Come on, Denver, try it, esp during Happy Hour, and you will be a fan!

I was so excited to learn that they had updated their menu with more vegan options. The server said that they now make their own vegan mayo, and the menu clearly states vegan tempura. All of the vegan rolls I tried were delicious, had great texture, and were by far more creative than any other vegan sushi I've eaten. What a great upgrade!

What I had? Sake and Sake Toro Nigiri. O-toro sashimi Food review: So take this review with a grain of salt as this is only my 2nd maybe 3rd sushi experience but just felt this experience to be a bit on the meh side. I had a friend really recommend O-toro sushi so was looking forward to trying that out. First piece was OK with a little bit of a buttery texture but as I got to the 2nd and 3rd pieces, it seemed to get "soggier" and "soggier". Overall, I thought all the sushi was just OK and it just really didn't stand out to me as being good. Was almost tempted to give this place 2 stars but did get to sample out the hummus which was pretty tasty. Service? Decent.

I stopped here to meet up with some friends last night before another event. They were offering happy hour drink specials which translated to a $3 glass of wine. i ordered the merlot and it was smooth and fantastic. our waitress was super cute, attentive and friendly. although i didn't try the sushi, it looks pretty fantastic. i can't wait to go back & indulge. the atmosphere is modern and urban and chic without being pretentious and obnoxious. me likey. i'll be back.

We went here last night to celebrate a friends birthday and were amazed by the service, atmosphere, and food. There were 12 of us and a pretty rowdy crew but our server, Jack, made sure that every order was correct and that we always had drinks. The manager personally came by and went above and beyond to ensure that we were satisfied. This will definitely be our new go to sushi restaurant for everything from a quick happy hour, special occasions, and a meeting place to impress new clients.

Go for happy hour. You have to sit in the bar area, but it's so worth it. It's dirt cheap. My wife and I will go to town and the bill will usually be under $40 when it's all said & done. Dirt cheap for quality sushi. Get the Cherry Bomb. Absolute best thing on the menu. Not even close.

My boyfriend and I were vacationing in Denver so we decided to go out for a nice dinner. First we ordered the Summer Solstice Fish Bowl, which is a GIANT glass of deliciousness. We almost couldn't finish it between the two of us. I ordered the caterpillar roll, which is what I normally order at sushi joints. It was great. Very fresh and delicious. He got the shrimp tempura and calamari. I tried the calamari. The sauce that they serve with it is delicious, tangy and overall makes the calamari taste better (I hate when places serve it with marinara). I highly recommend this place.

I still can't find an outstanding sushi place in Denver. Although this was pretty good, it's hard to compare to California sushi places. Sorry Blue, you just don't cut the mark for me, but I might come back in a few months to give it another go around.

The food here is nothing to brag about (3 stars), but I'm a huge fan of their service (5 stars). I'll expand on the food first. They have AMAZING happy hour specials on both food and drinks that are impossible to pass up. The food itself is just okay to good. Being that I'm the type of person who loves a good chirashi bowl and nigiri, I would classify this sushi joint as more geared toward beginners and those loving outrageous roll combinations (kinda like Hapa). They even have a special label they use on rolls that don't contain raw fish for "squeamish" ones. To be fair, I didn't try the nigiri there because I would just rather go somewhere else for that. The crab cakes and calamari were delicious though. Speaking of the crab cakes, their service here is so good that it's almost ridiculous. My coworker and I were eating the crab cakes when a manager walks over to apologize and take our plate away. Ummmm...wuddafuq?! We didn't even say anything because we were so confused. He comes back to tell us that he noticed the crab cakes were slightly overcooked, so he was going to bring us new ones. Seriously. They also noticed that I didn't eat my miso soup (the broth somehow tasted almost burnt and really watered down), so they completely took it off of our bill without even me complaining. Oh, and they walked me to the bathroom...yes really. Although I put them towards the bottom of my list of good sushi restaurants, I will continue to keep coming back here because happy hour prices are unbeatable, and their service is top notch. Plus, the food is still good, just not as good as others around town.

Best sushi and service I've ever had!! And we're from California! Hats off to the chef!! His flavors meld so perfectly together. It's a mouth orgasm with every bite!

I'm HOOKED on this place! Seriously some of the best and sushi & service in Denver. We are always treated like family here and the dishes range from classic staples to unique creations that stand on their own. Highly recommend the itchy sea bass.

It's nice to see a new Sushi spot downtown or within walking distance. I came to Blue on a Tuesday night with a friend. We had a couple drinks, a few rolls, and a couple plates of Sashimi. Place was pretty quiet but the service was quick and professional. This is a great place to come for happy hour and grab a bite to eat or a large group before going out for the night. Blue has a South beach or Vegas vibe to it. While I think the food is good it wouldn't be my first choice.

They have an amazing happy hour during the week and all day sunday. The "blue balls" are delicious. Love the decor and ambiance, great service all the time. My only complaint is they put cream cheese in too many of their rolls. Blegh. I just avoid them.

Went to the grand opening and overall the food, service and ambiance were great. Some of my favorites were the blue balls, south pacific roll and the tuna toro. Looking forward to going back to try to truffle salmon and the poke. They have a decent happy hour too.

I have been going to Blue for years at the locations in Omaha, so I was stoked when I found out they were building one in Denver. This restaurant has a friendly and attentive staff, we loved our server Nicholas. My favorite part about Blue though is their amazing Happy Hour specials. A wide selection of rolls are priced at $4.50 and their house martinis are between $5-6. Blue has a variety of rolls for both beginner and versed sushi palates, so everyone will find something they enjoy. I recommend the Hawaiian, Philadelphia, or Crunchy Blue Rolls. For drinks, I love their Sake Sangria and their Dirty Blue Martini. Besides already loving the food, I am pleased to say that I can still get my favorite dishes and great service here in Denver.

Blue Sushi Sake Grill is a hit or miss. For me, it's definitely a hit. This was our fourth time trying sushi since we've moved to Denver and it is definitely a better place than the last sushi place we dined at. They have great happy hour specials too. It's nothing compared to the sushi in LA but definitely better than any other place we have ate.

I'm so grateful to have this within walking distance of my office! We sat on the patio and the service was fantastic. It's so nice to have a patio on the 16th Street Mall and enjoy a peaceful environment. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, but my favorite was the truffle salmon and the blue volcano. The staff was so knowledgeable and helpful. This is a great place and it's a great addition to the neighborhood. I'm excited to go back again soon!

This place rocks! We made a last minute reservation on a Saturday night. I loved everything about this place. The food was amazing. Huge menu. Great drink list. We had: Shisito peppers- MUST try. Sooooo good Calamari Miso Soup Sapporo Mussels- amazing Cherry Bomb Nigiri- probably my favorite bite of sushi EVER Fiesta Roll- only roll we didn't love. Spicy Tako- not bad, wasn't that spicy Spanish Fly- AWESOME Thriller- yummy And the true test for any sushi place... salmon sashimi. It was excellent. Fresh, buttery. Mmmm. I can't wait to go back!!!

Really good sushi, great service, and a nice list of sake. They make great non-traditional sushi, which is my favorite. Also, I can't say enough about how friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt the waitstaff is.

My expectations were far exceeded at the Grand Opening Party of Blue Sushi Sake Grill on Saturday (July 7) (in Dixon's old space, next to Lucky Pie) For a new restaurant to run as smoothly and efficiently as this on the first night of big crowd was amazing, especially considering the sushi was gratis! Loved the Blue Balls, as well as all of the nigiri and sashimi that I tried. o toro was still a little frozen in the middle, but it was a nice piece of fish. I also enjoyed a samurai saketini (unfiltered sake, cucumber infused vodka, fresh-squeezed limeade). Okay, maybe I enjoyed more than just one of them ;-) Our service was outstanding and the modern decor is nice. I have already been recommending Blue Sushi to my friends and will be back for another visit soon!

Wonderful!!! Can't say enough about this place. Great atmosphere, great service, food. Creative rolls and awesome fish. Don't go to the one in Stapleton it's horrid. This one is the best!!

Blue Sushi has a great lunch special and I got a free edammame for checking in there. My co-workers and I had been going to Sonoda's for sushi but decided to try Blue Sushi. Blue Sushi is so much more modern and nice compared to Sonoda's we were won over by that and the food of course. The rolls are just the right size not to big to fit in your mouth in one piece so the pieces don't fall apart on you. The lunch special is awesome and definitely fills you up. I signed up for the birthday promo and will be back soon with whatever deal they send me!

So sadly after tonight's experience I can't give this restaurant more than 2 stars. I took my husband here tonight for his birthday because we are headed to the Rockies game ans he really liked the food. Well that was the only thing that was good. So we get there and stand and wait because there is no hostess or waitress in sight. She arrives and tells us to sit wherever. Sadly for the rest of the meal we just did'nt get good service our waitress wasn't very nice or attentive the entire meal. I was really hoping this time around we would have a better experience because the food is tasty but not certain will be back with the service we received. :(

Love this place! This was my second visit, been once for lunch and now for dinner. My husband and I have been to several sushi places around the Denver area and we both agreed that this place has the best food, service and atmosphere of any of the places.

Tonight some colleagues and I had dinner here after a meeting, around 7:30. This is a very nice restaurant with a friendly staff. There were few people dining here, which seemed normal since it is a Wednesday. We ordered drinks, which were brought out quickly (and ice cold). We also ordered the spicy edamame and peppers, which were both good. Now if we had left after appetizers and drinks, this would be a 4 star review, but unfortunately we stayed. We all ordered separately, but almost the same items for all 5 of us (mostly sashimi with a few basic rolls). The four other people with me received their meals in a normal amount of time, but the waiter said mine would just be another minute (but no explanation). He kept returning every 5-6 minutes to apologize and tell me it would be right up, but never offering any explanation at all. Finally, 35 minutes AFTER EVERYONE ELSE WAS TOTALLY DONE WITH THEIR MEALS(that is not an exaggeration), I told him to cancel my order. He politely told me it was on the house, but I still said I want to cancel it because everyone was done eating and I wasn't comfortable with this. He again refused, so I just said to wrap it up to go. It still took another 10 minutes for it to be finished after that. So my food was not ready until 45 minutes after everyone else had finished their meals completely and had the table cleared. Now I didn't order anything exotic at all, it was very basic. I would have been more understanding if he would have at least given me some type of explanation, but no such luck. I need to say that I'm a very easy-going guy, especially with restaurants, but I will never be returning to Blue Sushi. And that stinks, because it seemed like it was going to be a great place. Anyway, I'm not sure if it was just an "off night" for them, but either way, my experience was terrible and I would never recommend Blue Sushi to anyone. UPDATE: Megan from their corporate office took the time to personally contact me via email to apologize for the problems I had during my dinner. She was very nice, and I actually felt like she truly cares about making up for the issues, not just saving face from a bad review on yelp. She was nice enough to send me a gift card to the restaurant so I could go back and see how they do normally. Like I said before, I feel like it was most likely a fluke issue, but I will be going back in the next few days to give them a second chance. I'll update my review accordingly.

I have a new favorite sushi restaurant! Or a new favorite Happy Hour restaurant, depending on time of day. I thought the food was great. Two of the highlights were the unique Snow White (crispy sea bass) and the spicy Ceviche-Style White Fish which I just loved and was recommended by the bartender. The HH menu, which runs up to 6:30, is extensive w/ great food and drink deals, and the food went great with their margarita. I sat at the bar and since it was slower I got to know the bartender Nate, who was very attentive to the needs of those around the bar and friendly with everyone. Overall, I'm very impressed with this latest sushi addition in Denver.

As others have mentioned, the music here is obnoxiously loud. Portion sizes are generous. The shishito peppers and squid salad appetizers were very good. Service was very good, but we were the only table on the restaurant side. Therefore we were kind of surprised that it took so long for our sushi and rolls to come out. At first I figured it was because we ordered two rolls with fried items in them (Spider Roll and Red Eye). I was wrong. Those rolls were ice cold, which was pretty gross. The black tobiko sushi we ordered had a strange taste to it, which was too bad because I really love black tobiko. The salmon, avocado, cream cheese roll was pretty good. Overall I'd say I wouldnt go back here again as I dont want to take the chance on having another gross sushi experience.

Ate there last night with my daughter and it was absolutely wonderful. Besides the outstanding service, the food was spectacular. Our problem was all the choices. We had the calamari appetizer which was VERY yummy - loved the dipping sauce. I knew from the reviews to try the Itchy Seabass - it was SPECTACULAR. My favorite by far. The Beach was excellent as well. The chocolate roll dessert was over the top. Our waitress was very patient with us - indecision problems!!! She gave us some great recommendations and went over the menu with us slow learners several times. I would definitely go back!!!!!

I went there for my birthday dinner with my friends. I liked the atmosphere and food, but not really happy with the service. It took forever for our server to come around as well as to bring something. Oh Oh Oh~ Loved the Calamari for starters!!

The sushi is sub par to say the least. The quality and size of the fish was very disappointing. The rice was mushy and had a terrible texture. However, the edamame hummus was really good. Take it from someone who knows quality sushi. Stick to apps and entrees here. Not a sushi spot.

  • Jenna R.

Food is delicious and service was AMAZING. Our sushi rolls that needed to be fried took a little bit longer then what Blue Sushi calls "timely" so the Executive Chef gave them to us on the house. Completely unnecessary as we would have waited an extra 5 minutes to have these rolls just because of how good they are. The customer service was top notch. Everything about Blue Sushi is as good as it gets.

Best sushi and sushi plates we've had in Denver yet. We ordered "Omakase" style and were extremely pleased with the plates that were presented to us. I'd highly recommend. Our waiter was very attentive and did an excellent job. Wish I could remember his name. We'll be back soon.

We have been three times now. Once for a weekday dinner. The night we dined, we had a very pleasant experience and superb service and food. We sat in the dining section and not the bar area. We were told while dining how the Bronco games are played on the very large TV in the bar area. I was quite excited to be able to watch the game on the big screen, eat some sushi and drink a few Japanese beers. Well, we arrived on a Sunday to watch the Broncos game only to discover that the game was on the TV, but they do not have any audio. So, it was distracting to say the least to try and watch a football game with blaring background music. After finally getting the bartenders attention (the bartender could not hear calls for her over the music while standing right in front of us), we were told that the games never have audio...what a disappointment. We did not even order and left. On the third visit on a Friday night, we sat in the bar area. WOW is all I can say about the music and how exceedingly loud it was around 7pm. I enjoy music on a Friday night out for fun, but this was the most awful unidentifiable crap I have ever heard played so freaking loud I had a headache after one drink....again we left. Sometimes, atmosphere is as important as the food quality. Oh well, plenty of sushi in Denver and places to watch sports at a bar/restaurant.

This is by far my most favorite sushi spot in Denver. It's perfect for lunch dining or date night. Cool atmosphere and reasonable prices. My favorite rolls are the unagi maki and hot popper. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because I have never been blown away by the service and that's important to me.

  • Travis C.

Came here for lunch with a group of 6 of us. Got the lunch special and added an extra roll. When the food came out I was shocked. The rolls were really small, like smallest rolls i had ever had. Bill came out to around $30 with tip, and apparently they do not do split checks. Long story short, went over to the pizza shop by work after to fill up.

We've been to Blue Sushi in Omaha a few times and really love it. Always try to go when we get back there. So, when we heard that Blue was opening a location in Denver, we were thrilled. I kept checking the website to see when the opening was going to be and I was excited to see it would coincide with my husbands birthday!! We got to the restaurant a few minutes early and were seated immediately. Our waitress (can't remember her name) was fantastic and had a great personality. She was very helpful with drink selections and took our order right away. The food was amazing and presentation of our sushi/sashimi was incredible. Everything was delicious and so fresh! Unbelievable service and food!! This is our new favorite sushi restaurant in Denver! Chris, the manager, really took care of us and was awesome. Kudos to Anthony for helping with a reservation for my husbands birthday. As good as,or better than, Blue in Omaha!!

I eat here pretty often, Sometimes twice a week. I even mentioned it to one of the friends I was eating with, that blue Sushi is my 2nd favorite date place. I live rite on 16th street and the food is good so its very convenient. We had a reservation for 9 and we arrive initially with 5 and started a tab with food and drink orders. Our waitress was labeled Combs on the check. Although her service was very good . We had three couples in our group and at the beginning of the meal, we insisted we get orders on separate checks for 3 couples, she refused. Why ?, we don't know, i have had other waitress split the check for me before. I assume it is because she didnt want to go through the trouble of putting orders in separately. We knew the check would be complicated and sure enough it was. 345 $ check (tip not included) and multiple drinks later . It was a real pain in the ass to separate what everyone ordered. Really nothing else needs to be said except , if its four people , yes ask the patrons to do the math and split check themselves , but when it's a big party, save us the trouble and split the check for us . Your tip will reflect it, one way or the other.

I just visited Blue for the first time with friends. If you haven't been there what are you waiting for?! Not being a "sushi person" my expectations were not so high for my personal experience. Wow! Was I surprised! I ordered the crab cakes, the ragoons, and the blue balls. Presentation was amazing for every dish delivered promptly to our table. And beautiful flavor combos. Like a party in my mouth! We sampled one another's dishes and I blown away with every bite. Nick was great and very attentive to our every need. The ambiance was fabulous and I can't wait to introduce my other friends to the culinary adventure of Blue.

This was very disappointing. i went there with my wife, and everything was sub par. The amount of fish used , or lack there of was sad. ordering a salmon roll with a sliver of salmon actually on it is ridiculous I also ordered their supposedly super special maki which was their higher priced items which included tako, salmon, tuna, white fish, and various peppers. That roll was prob the worst roll i have ever eaten. Extremely fishy tasting. Couldn't get the taste out of my mouth. The veggie roll was prob the best item we had. The spicy edemame was pretty good as well. I wish it was better since the people behind the sushi bar were awesome. our waitress on the other hand, had to ask for the same thing multiple times

I was pretty skeptical of sushi from a Nebraska-based chain. I'm a sushi snob. I've had some pretty outstanding sushi ... from the stalls at the Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo and mom-and-pop places throughout Japan, to the best places in New York and Los Angeles. The best sushi in Denver, in my opinion, is Banzai Sushi on Leetsdale. But I digress. The sushi at Blue Sushi is just meh. I suppose eating sushi surrounded by flashy decor makes the food taste better, at least in your head, but it didn't do it for me. Blue Sushi tries hard to be hip and trendy. The decor is ok. I was a bit offended by the caricatured pictures of Japanese faces on the wall. Maybe there are no Japanese/Asians in Omaha so funny pictures of Asian people qualify as "pop art" there, but you're not going to see those kinds of pictures at the hippest places on Sawtelle in L.A. or St. Mark's Place in New York (much less anywhere in Tokyo). It's like going to a fried chicken restaurant and there being photos of black people on the wall making stupid faces and eating chicken and watermelon. How is that acceptable anywhere? Needless to say, I won't be going back and I will encourage everyone I know to stay away as well. EDIT: To respond to Megan L (see her comments below), it's one thing for Japanese folks to poke fun at themselves, it's quite another for white people from Nebraska to do so. I'm afraid that's just how the world works. I still find the pictures offensive, but would be happy to try the restaurant again when/if they are replaced with something more appropriate.

Great place for date night and a great place for happy hour!! I'll give this place 5 stars because the sushi is great AND the service is great. The cocktails are worth mentioning too, they are worth a visit for sure! My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and I was even treated to a delicious complimentary dessert!! Itchy Seabass is a MUST!! We also had the Yellowtail Jalapeno, Black Tuna, Fiesta Roll and Thriller Roll. All of which were AMAZING! Everything was fresh both times I have visited. I'm looking forward to trying the Cherry Bomb the next time I go, which will be soon. There are ovbiously a few other well known sushi places in Denver that deserve 5 Stars as well, but this place beats their competition's prices for sure, which is a plus. I've sake bombed here and I've tried the Hattori Hanzo Martini, yummy! There are Fish Bowl cocktails too for groups, so obviously if you're looking for a good time, this place has the right atmoshpere. I sure am glad they've opened up a location here in Denver!

Love this place! Me and my girls went here this past Saturday night for dinner. The ambiance was beautiful, very hip but intimate. The sushi chef's were so amazing! When our Thriller sushi roll came out it looked like a work of art complete with bright pink/purple flower; the Crunchy Red roll was this beautiful bright red color with the perfect mix of crunch, with a full mix of flavors topped with just a hint of sweetness! All together with the wine and the service it was just a super experience. AND they have a reverse happy hour that starts at 10:30pm so we will definitely spend some summer nights eating here

Delicious! We went for lunch and everything was great. I have no complaints at all. Since I've moved here, I've not been very happy with sushi in Denver but this was a nice experience. The fish was very fresh and I was excited by the menu. The food, the atmosphere & the service were all wonderful. The only thing I might suggest is the presentation could be more creative. I'm now reading others reviews and see a lot of suggestions to go for HH, I'll definitely do that.

Not a bad little joint. The sushi is pretty good (not all that traditional, but they don't hold themselves out as such). Service was a bit slow, and the place wasn't all that busy, so that kinda sucked. But the seaweed salad was the shizz. Best sushi downtown, but not in Denver. Also, we were given a really small table with too much stuff on it. It got frustrating.

So glad to have Blue Sushi in Denver. I went in with a big group of women and we had a blast. We tried lots of different cocktails and sushi dishes. None of us were disappointed. Some must tries are the Ceviche Style White Fish, Truffle Salmon, and the Black Dragon roll. You should also try these martinis - Hattori Hanzo with cucumber vodka and the Pacific Rim which is a taste of coconut heaven. The service was outstanding and the environment was so much fun with the wacky Japanese art and fish tank in the bar area. At the end of the day though, the food is what will keep me coming back. Fresh, inventive and adventurous.

We had an amazing experience. The staff was first-rate. The food was perfect and the prices were well in-line with what I expected. I would highly-recommend this to anyone. I am looking forward to going back as soon as possible. The sashimi was some of the best I have ever had and I consider myself to be a tough judge when it comes to sushi. Given that they opened just a week before we went there, I expected the typical new restaurant hiccups, but everything was perfect.

Pretty good happy hour. Understandably, but unfortunately sushi in Denver is nowhere on the same level as coastal cities, so if you are used to L.A sushi for example, this is not the same level you are used to. Otherwise it is great for Denver.

I honestly didn't like Sushi at all until I tried Blue Sushi Sake Grill. Before Blue, I tried Sushi probably 6-8 times and I never liked it. I went from not liking Sushi at all, to wanting Sushi every week.

First time here, location and lay out of the restaurant had a great atmosphere. The late afternoon was slow so our waiter was great and friendly while responding to our needs. The calamari was great as a starter with a good amount of batter to it and deep fried with an aioli sauce which wasn't bad and not horribly greasy. We got the hotel California roll which was a sushi roll fried in batter with crab and cream cheese, I thought this was tasteless and extra cheesy. The Matchu Pichu was a good combination of red peppers and fish, interesting since I've never seen the combination of vegetables in sushi. Red Eye was good, simple and tasty. The Spicy Tekka, similar to a spicy tuna roll was kind of weird. The taste was a little vinegary, salty and spicy all on a piece of Tuna rolled in rice and wrapped in seaweed, not too crazy about it. The Philly roll was similar to the red eye and was decent. The spider roll maki was great as well. Overall these were all great amounts of sushi.

Went last night (feb. 16) with a 7:45 reservation. Was told my table wasn't ready & was instead sat at a table in the bar area. Ordered 2 salads (sailor man & can't think of the other), tuna tower and two rolls. Salads were good, food came very quickly. But when I went to pick up my first piece on one of the rolls I noticed a fruit fly crawl out right as I reached for it. I asked a busboy to get our server, he rolled his eyes & told us he didn't kow who our server was. We finally saw her and called her over & showed her the fly, still crawling on our plate. She took away the plate & brought back a new one, said she changed one roll, after the fly had been walking all over the plate. Needless to say I had no appetite after that. We got our bill (NOTHING was comped or reduced after this event) and as they were taking away our plate we noticed another fruit fly over our plate. I told the waitress again and asked if hey have open fruit at the bar, she said yes they did. I explained that might be why there are fruit flies in the food (disgusting). This was my first time having sushi since I moved here from NY & I will never go back to this place. Frankly I'm a little scared & disappointed. $90.00 down the drain on food with fruit flies on it. Disgusting.

I was at Blue the very first night it opened . The food was great . And the service was excellent. We sat out side and enjoyed people walking by . Our server a blonde hair girl I think her name was Ann was very pleasant and friendly . My wife and I came back one week later and requested the same server. I will for sure be back to Blue when I come back to Denver .

Blue Sushi Sake Grill (say that five times after a couple happy hour margaritas - I dare you) has a few things going for it. The aforementioned happy hour margaritas (big, bold, and beautiful, although a little [ok, extremely] sweet) are really the main point. The sushi was pretty average, otherwise. Miso soup was tasty. And my "friends" were assholes (they did an even split on a bill which was full of their sake bombs... and I only had one spicy tuna roll and soup. Cool, guys.) Luckily, I only know one of them, so I never have to see them again, otherwise I would unleash my wrath; I'm still silently sobbing a month later. That said, I would come back with my real friends. The place was jam-packed, and plenty of happy hour deals were to be had. The margaritas taste like liquified sourpatch kids. For someone who doesn't eat much candy or junk - ever - I was surprisingly not overwhelmed but loving it.

The best sushi restaurant in Downtown Denver. Very fresh fish, excellent service, upbeat/trendy atmosphere and a drink menu to die for. Try comparing the three sake sashimi options, which are all tasty, but much different in flavor with a clean pallet. If you like a Bloody Mary, try their martini twist on the traditional drink.

Great wait staff and atmosphere. Ordered the Philadelphia roll and the Tidal Wave roll, they were both delicious! The waitress was even kind enough to suggest getting the eel sauce that comes with the Tidal Wave roll on the side because I hadn't had it before and was slightly nervous to try it. Will definitely be back!

Food and drinks excellent! Kudos to the sushi chef; however, the service could be better! Made a reservations for 5, and we are placed in the bar and not the dining room. Plus the table was really for 4. I think the food runner provided better service than our waitress. Waters were not filled and we had to always ask to take dishes away. Will try again hoping we get a different server.

This place is awesome. Had the tidal wave roll which was shrimp and crab with a light, crumbly tempura breading and the fiesta roll with grilled shrimp, a spicy siracha type sauce wrapped in soy paper, spicy edamame, the coconut crab soup- which was outstanding, it tasted like a coconut curry that I'm very fond of, peppered seared tuna and the rock shrimp and white fish ceviche. My phone died so I couldn't take pictures :( they had a unique menu. Never had sushi rolls like this before. I usually only eat cooked rolls and their menu had a wide variety of cooked sushi. I was very pleased. Definitely give their fiesta roll a try!!

Always great service and it's never too crowded. It's not the best sushi in town but for the price and the location it's a go to. They also have a great happy hour.

I came in for lunch and decided to sit at the bar to save time. I sat there for 10 minutes without being greeted or helped. Needless to say I ended up walking out, and even as I was walking out the hostess said nothing. Very disappointed in the service I received... or didn't receive for that matter. Not sure if I'll be going back.

The food is delicious!!! The specialized sashimi unique to blue sushi and the Tempura fried sushi rolls are absolutely amazing! My negative comments are from a Saturday night experience. I took my fiancé to Blue Sushi for his first time (he's from Florida so I had to make sure the Colorado sushi was decent) and the service was slow and the ambiance was good...until ALL of the screaming babies started up. Holy hell, I've never been to a restaurant where the lights are low and romantic (and it was after 7pm) , but yet there are soooo many little ones allowed to scream and cry for your entire $150 + dinner. It was so uncomfortably unpleasant, that even though we loved the food, I really don't want to go back! We complained as we left and there was no concern for our comments. Wow.

After a friendly employee invited me to give Blue Sushi another shot, I agreed and I'm glad I did. Everything was so much better this time around, thanks mostly to the recommendations we got. The cowgirl roll was the best! I would come back after giving this place another shot.

Sushi was ok. Had a caterpillar roll and their blue balls. The blue balls were pretty good. The caterpillar roll had way too much cucumber than I'm used too. Staff was nice.

This is my new favorite sushi place!! I have been obsessed, and for good reason (I think, at least). I usually try to only get sushi on Happy Hour, because I'm cheap... and because I only eat non-seafood sushi, so I don't want to pay a ton for some veggies and rice. I digress.... BSSG has the best HH of all the sushi places I've been to. Their HH runs Monday-Saturday 3-6:30pm, Friday+Saturday 10:30pm-midnight, Sunday noon-8pm. They have a giant list of Grill Menu items including Lettuce Wraps (vegetarian or chicken), crab cakes, Chicken Satay, and my favorite: Pork Gyoza (pan-seared dumplings, crispy leeks, chili soy broth). They also have some specialty Nigiri and Sashimi, that are not your usual sushi fare, but I'll let somebody else describe those who actually eats that stuff. The star of their menu, IMO, is their sushi rolls, Maki. On HH they have about 25 of them, all of which are $4.50. That's right....$4.50. What?!? That's insane. And over 5 of them are vegetarian! I love their rolls because they are not your typical sushi rolls, found at every other restaurant. For example, my all time favorite is the Eden roll: sweet potato tempura, grilled asparagus, edamame hummus, sun-dried tomato, soy paper, olive oil. Second favorite is the Crunch Cabbage: spicy fried aged tofu, scallion, tempura nappa cabbage. If you even remotely like sushi (and especially vegetarian sushi), do yourself a favor and run to BSSG...during HH, of course, if you want to save yourself some $$. They won't disappoint!

The wife and I visited Blue while on business from SF, CA. We were looking for another good sushi spot to try out since we were in Denver for 5 days. The wife chose this spot while I was working. The spot reminds me of the trendy style sushi bars in Cali. Dim lights with a neon bar and house music in the background. A bit stereotypical, but still worth a shot. We almost left tho because while we were seated quickly, we say for about 10 minutes before we were even greeted, given menus or water. There were only 2 other tables with guests so it wasn't that they were busy. It's something that can be fixed tho. We ordered pop rocks hamachi which was very interesting. Nice spicy sashimi with ponzu and the added pop rocks gave the fish a dancing feeling. It was actually really good. I would have it again. We also got a hot pepper roll. Once I took out some of the cream cheese, it was excellent. I'm not a fan of cream cheese in rolls since I'm more of a traditional sashimi-nigiri type so if you like cream cheese, this might be good for you. The nigiri was quite good. True sushi is judged by the rice. Perfecting that is more important than having the freshest fish. Either way, this place was good. The hamachi was nice and buttery with well balanced rice. Sake nigiri was good as well. I would avoid any of the cooked nigiri. Something bugs me about warm nigiri. The tempura ice cream was great too. So huge tho! Definitely made for sharing. It can probably feed 3-4 peeps. We'd likely come back here if ever in Denver.

For a downtown place, Blue Sushi has a pretty solid happy hour. Running from 3-6:30pm, they offer a variety of drink specials (ranging from wine to cocktails to sake) and food selections as well. Sure it's a sushi place, but as far as the drinks go they pretty much have something for everyone. And if sushi and Japanese-type food items aren't your bag, just drink something and go grab a bite at any number of nearby places since this one is located on the 16th Street Mall. Blue Sushi would definitely make for an easier HH+dinner spot, since they have a solid HH menu. I sampled a vegetarian lettuce wrap from Mz. B.'s order, and it was quite tasty. I especially like that they use bibb lettuce (vs. crappy iceberg); all of the add-in's that I... ahem... added were tasty. And while the platter is rather large in size, it makes for fun to build-your-own from everything offered. I don't spend much time downtown, but Blue Sushi would absolutely be worth another stop (or several...). I would have gladly imbibed more and ordered more from their menu (especially because they have so many delish sounding veggie rolls on HH), but I ate Smashburger for lunch, so I was trying to control myself. Still, I hope to make it back here sooner rather than later to try more!

Since moving to denver, I have had issues finding above par sushi for a reasonable price. Then I found blue! The price was dead on, the taste was dead on, service was great, even the manager came to check on us. I could not have been more pleased! And that happy hour! Wow!

Casual atmosphere with fun food offerings - love the Blue Balls and the Hawaiian Roll. Server was absent minded. Had to ask three times for replacement chops and at one point used a fork to enjoy appetizers that had arrived. Overall a great time, good deal and we will happily return !

Blue Sushi Sake Grill DO NOT ALLOW Reservations for Happy Hour (HH). Thankfully they are open on SUNDAYs. Went with C and J for HH on Sunday October 21st 2012. Time : 13:30hrs ish. I opt to be seated at one of the seats, on the left wing, just next to the entrance of this Blue Sushi Sake Grill so C and J can see me since I arrived slightly earlier for our HH gathering. YES this is a CHAIN establishment but their FIRST in Colorful Colorado soil. Our server her name is Jenna. From the Menu we shared these items : * Spicy Edamame ($5.00) * HH Calamari ($4.50) * HH Mango Crab Rangoon ($4.50) * HH Crunchy Blue Maki ($4.50) * HH Snow White Maki ($4.50) * HH Chicken Satay ($4.00) * HH Lump Crab Cakes ($5.50) * HH Ceviche ($5.50) * Chocolate Spring Roll ($8.00) If I am not mistaken J opt for Organic White Peach ($6.00) and C opt for Simply Strawberry ($6.00) as their beverages. They also shared the HH Pork Gyoza ($4.50). Highlights : Portions are reasonable for those HH items. Most HH items can be shared with your friends. Service was attentive when needed. I like my order of HH Ceviche The Best. The HH Ceviche is SO Addictive! Dont tell me they put CRACK in those HH Ceviche goodness! The HH Ceviche comes with tai snapper, rock shrimp, Japanese cucumber, cherry tomatoes, avocado, cilantro, sweet onion jalapeño salsa, wonton crisps and chili oil. I wish I could have more, but have to refrain.... The HH Mango Crab Rangoon only comes in 5 Fried Wantons at ($4.50) meaning each Fried Wantons will cost you ($0.90). The sauce they spread on the plate for this dish was the Mango puree and fire roasted red pepper sauce. The HH Chicken Satay. Yes, the chicken are grilled, but drizzled with Yogurt Curry sauce. Its not marinated well enough for my taste bud. 5 pieces at ($4.00), hence each piece cost ($0.80). Hmm,... Spicy peanut sauce as a dipping sauce with the HH Chicken Satay. I bet to differ coz to me, the sauce tasted more like tamarind molasses. Slightly disappointed with the HH Calamari, HH Lump Crab Cakes since those are my "main order"... Yes the HH Calamari comes out piping hot. Yes, the Miso Aioli dipping sauce is different kind of dipping sauce from other Sushi establishment that offer Calamari dishes. But why oh why, you put "vegetables" in my order of HH Calamari. Tempura-battered Green Onions, Red Bell Peppers and Carrots. The amount of Squid is as many as the amount of the "unwanted" vegetables in the HH Calamari. The batter is light, just like tempura light but that's all.. nothing fancy about this HH Calamari. *Sigh* Now for the HH Lump Crab Cakes. Err, why was the HH Lump Crab Cakes over-fried-done-to-the-max! Aka Over-cooked. Then its was drizzled with the mysterious orange sauce aka Fire Roasted Red Pepper Aioli and perhaps sprinkled with Togarashi Pepper Flakes and Green Onions aka Scallions. The HH Lump Crab Cakes are being put on top of "layers" of strips of white daikon, white and red cabbages, red bell peppers aka "more vegetables" as part of the garnish???... * Double Sigh* "Cute Part" : The ladies bathroom was covered with Chinese/Mandarin Wallpaper of Newspaper prints. Unique to some, if you can read Chinese/Mandarin.... The Chocolate Spring Roll is HUGE and definitely can feed more than 5 people. While we were there, all the TVs are ON. As for the music, was just A-OK...though I think at the end of our meal, the Music level tends to be on a higher scale aka more "Blaring"... Overall experience is A-OKAY. Might return when needed and perhaps might bring a BIG group for HH and see how things MIGHT differ. Left this establishment at about 15:15hrs. @162/2012

Do the bombs! Do the bombs! They are excellent! Near Hana Sushi, Jacks fish house, and a few other bars, it is an awesome stop when you are 'hopping'. Sushi here is typical, and good. If you find yourself near here, you need to stop in. The only complaint I have about this place is the seating can be cumbersome, and sometimes uncomfortable if you are in a huge group.

  • Gee W.

"Checked in" on yelp for the complimentary edamame, went for the spicy because it sounded interesting: bad idea! I love spicy food, but this was clumps of garlic and salt thrown on soy beans. Hardly any spice. Should be renamed! The dragon roll and spicy tuna had so little fish in them. The dragon had paper thin salmon, tuna, and snapper on top, so it was mainly imitation crab meat in the center. The spicy tuna had old looking rice and a microscopic slice of tuna in the center. I don't know if you have to happy hour here for a few hours before you think this sushi looks good. We made the mistake of coming regular hours and were sorely disappointed!

Pop rocks yellowtail! Need I say more? When my eyes fell on this item listed on the menu, I knew I had to have it. Yellowtail is my favorite sushi fish and adding pop rocks can only make it better. I was right. Strawberry pop rocks came popping on top of a plate of yellowtail. The strawberry was a great enhancement of the yellowtail flavor. I love it! I read someone's twitter post that Vegas is the only place that would have pop rocks sushi. Boy are they wrong! Blue Sushi Sake is on the Denver scene with this great dish. To add to the tastebuds, we got shishito peppers and a few rolls. With such a great happy hour, you can get a ton of great items uber cheap. I love this place and their location. Perfect for a small bite on your way to 16th street mall, lunch with friends, or a romantic dinner. If you haven't been to Blue Sushi Sake, I suggest you give it a try. At least give the pop rocks a go!

This is a nice spot with a well rounded menu. Note: if you are a sushi snob or connoisseur the sushi/sashimi menus are well-stocked with traditional favorites however the selection of fish seemed light during our visit. The service was good - our server was attentive and made great suggestions for appetizers. Overall I would recommend checking this spot out but set your expectations to the middle of the road and you won't be disappointed.

Awesome Happy Hour prices (although watch out....must sit in the bar - kind of annoys me when places do that and dropped a star). HOWEVER or server in dining room was nice enough to get us moved into the bar. Love their Itchy Salmon (although not as good as the Itchy Sea Bass which was not on the HH menu), Blue Balls, and Calamari. Service in the bar was great! Thanks Veronica!

This place rocks. Well for Happy Hour at least (even on sun!) you can try an ARRAY of apps for a great prices. They had a seared salmon nigiri over crab (instead of rice) that was mmm. They have these great Shishinto Peppers (but maybe add some spice to them for those of us who like it spicy) I live and die for their banana three ways dessert. Oh. GOD you are good! I have tried a filet there with wasabi potato au gratin and it was great. (for you non sushi folk) I just really am happy here!

Let me say that I am allergic to shellfish...so, it makes perfect sense that I went for sushi (I know!). First off, the wait staff was very nice. The bartender, on my first visit, was super helpful going over the menu and pointing out things I couldn't eat. My second visit, I sat at the sushi bar and the chefs were VERY VERY helpful poking fun at me and making sure I didn't eat something that would kill me. So, make friends with the sushi chefs! Hahaha I usually try to hit Blue Saki after lunch; they have a lunch rush most afternoons. Alas, after the rush you can relax and chat at the sushi bar. The staff is really attentive and will take time for you. Sushi Chefs Xander and Ester (sp), the saucy girl chef, are really fun and will chat you up enriching the Saki experience, plus the rest of the sushi gang! They have taken time to talk with me about the sushi providing a little education along with my meal. Which I like! Also, one day, they were cutting up these huge fresh chucks of tuna that were beautiful! So, they definitely get fresh, fresh, fresh tuna! Another day, the wait staff suggested a house salad with their house made salad dressings. Awesome! They are light with a lot of flavor (I order my dressing on the side). I have recommended Blue Saki to a few guests and they have all loved it. Great sushi at a great price! Try the lunch specials.

This wonderful Sushi spot has become one of my favs. Been three times so far with friends, and every time it had been a great experience! We usually come for happy hour, and I would say it is one of the best I have found. The cucumber martinis are exquisite! Love the spicy poppers. The prices for happy hour is an added bonus. Full sushi rolls for a fraction of the price. Plan on bringing out of town guest to this place! Thank you for being here. P.S. great wait staff, funny and super helpful.

Solidly 3 stars. We planned a fun evening with another couple and specifically sought out a new sushi joint in Denver. Blue Sushi jumped off the page and we promptly made OpenTable reservations - lots of openings on a Saturday night when booked earlier in the week. THE GOOD: Drinks! I had the Fresa Mataini (not a typo) which was very tasty; not strong enough for a $9 drink, but very good nonetheless. My friend got a Bloody Mary Martini and loved it. The edamame was very good, we ordered 1 of each variation and both were great. Some of the sushi was pretty darn good. My fave? The Crunchy Red roll...very good. (Most of the rest of the sushi was just ok - Macchu Pichu, The Beach, Rainbow Roll and some nigiri). We ordered 2 desserts and those Chocolate Spring Rolls were divine. We substituted homemade banana ice cream for raspberry. THE BAD: Usually we love calamari but they add breaded carrot and red peppers. It just didn't seem that there was much actual calamari and the carrots and peppers were "fillers." Tasty, just disappointing. Additionally, while our waitress was very friendly, she wasn't very detail-oriented. Everyone else at the table got their drinks but I never got mine. Upon mentioning that it hadn't arrived yet, it was clear that she had never put in the order for my drink. Weird... THE UGLY: If you frequent sushi joints, you know that it can be easy to over-order and end up with $30 of extra sushi that you thought you'd be able to eat. We purposefully did NOT order too much knowing that we could always order more after the first round. Am I right? Apparently not. We finished our sushi and asked how long it would be if we were to order 2 more rolls. The answer....AN HOUR! What.the.hell. And we'd been there for an hour and a half already. Uh no thank you. Lastly, the piece de resistance: our fried ice cream had a big piece of plastic wrap in it! My boyfriend almost ate it! When we let our waitress know, she apologized and returned with 4 free appetizer vouchers which was nice. But big time oops on their part! Overall, it was good but not great. It's affordable, hit or miss with a few of the sushi rolls but a fun environment. I'm glad I tried it. Next time I think I'll go elsewhere though.

I really liked the sushi here. And I reallyyy liked the rangoon appetizer. The vibe feels upscale but the price isn't too steep. Service was good and the host staff was incredibly accommodating to our late arrival for our reservation.

The sushi was good and the location was nice but the service was not. I think we were actually forgotten about while sitting outside. The waitress was really nice but we hardly ever saw her and when our food came out it looked great, aside from missing ginger and wasabi. Maybe my visit was just an isolated experience. I don't think I will return.

As a regular of the sushi scene here in Denver; I'll say that this place never fails to impress. After some serious debate I elected to hit the outdoor patio here instead of my usual Sushi Den for a quick impromptu fix . Looking over the menu there's everything a sushi roll aficionado would expect. Your usual rolls all stood out with unique touches, from the Philly bomb to the rainbow roll, each one sounding more amazing than the last...then there was the Primo fire roll.....White fish, salmon, tuna, octopus, seared walu, serrano, habanero salsa, spicy masago, ponzu, ceviche sauce" You know the rest of the story ;)

I'm a fan of this location in the heart of Downtown Denver, Colorado. I had planned a visit here with my boyfriend for our first date, and the service was incredible even though Friday nights are extremely busy. We had ordered the Philadelphia, Cali, Seattle Maki, and Blue volcano roll and it was fantastic! Our server was very friendly, and respectful; he even paid close attention when I told him that I'm allergic to cucumber and avocado and he kindly took a note of it and made sure I had the best alternative sushi experience. The only problem with this restaurant is the space and how the tables are organized throughout the place. It is very crowded to the point where another customer accidentally knocked over all of our utensils and silverware on the floor. Blue Sushi Sake Grill did not fail to impress us yet again, as another server was very kind and brought us a replacement set of silverware and chop sticks. She was so kind, and highly appreciated for her splendid work. The tempura is high quality and almost perfect in my opinion. This tempura was perhaps the only version of tempura that I'll ever eat at Blue Sushi, and no where else. Very nice and laid back location to get a satisfying variety set of well made sushi and sashimi choices. I definitely recommend this location to anyone who is interested in delicious, worth while sushi. Cheers!

My husband and I have been walking by this place since we moved to Denver. After reading Yelp reviews we gave it a shot and were extremely pleased. The fish was fantastic! I love sashimi and this was definitely up to par. Jack was a great server and we can't wait to come back for more.

Menu is super hard to read and if you don't know japanese, some sushi menu is hard to understand and using japanese a little interesting way to combine English is making harder to understand whats the exact fish you talking about on the menu. Happy Hour Menu got great stuff but at the same time you have to compare to real menu to figure out what are some Rolls is made by... Waitress was annoying as F. kept coming back to try to push some food but I said i need time to look at menu but was kept coming back. Food taste wise = Awesome! Got seated really bad section that they should not even have a seat in that spot to start with...
