Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

For some reason I have started to drink more beer these days. That's where black sky comes in... Black sky is close to home and I secretly like their beers better than the other brewery down the street (hint hint, it starts with an R) My all time favorite beer is the pomegranate wheat, but they don't have it all the time :( When they don't have the above mentioned favorite, I like the petal to the metal. Honey usually goes for the deamonseed. The pizza is awesome. Check out the signature "black sky" can't go wrong with pepperoni cream cheese and jalapeño. Service is good too and down to earth. They open up a side patio in the summer which fills up quickly.

I like several of the beers at Black Sky including the "Petal to the Metal" rose petal and hibiscus. It's actually really good and not what you expect when you hear that description - so give it try. The staff are pretty mellow and will make some great suggestions for your palette if you ask. They do serve food including basic bar fare and pizza! They are a large enough facility to accommodate quite a crowd, so grab a group and swing by for some tasters. This is a very Rock and Roll based establishment - so if you're a fan of the old school music and metal days stop by and check them out!.

You know, for a heavy metal theme, I enjoyed my visit to Black Sky. Bright enough with natural light, it's painted dark to complement their rocker theme. The bartender was friendly, and they had $3 screwdrivers and a Bloody Mary bar. It's a brewery, but they only had 2 offerings on tap, an IPA (malty) and an imperial pumpkin stout, rimmed with cinnamon (toasty and coffee flavor heavy). In addition to the two tasters, we ordered a pizza. It's very thin crust, but was surprisingly tasty. Service was quick considering there were only 2 or 3 employees working between the bar and kitchen. I think Black Sky has a lot of potential. There's a lot going on between the food, beer, and bar, which may seem an identity issue compared to so many micro breweries these days, but I like that they had other offerings, more than 20 tap handles (with nearly a dozen guest beers on while they increase their offerings). I'll be back to Black Sky once they've increased their own tap list. Their website, however, is like most brewery websites in that you have to work to find the info you want (or call for hours).

We were looking for somewhere close by to have a couple drinks when we ordered takeout from Belemonti's down the street and Black Sky popped up. I loved the vibe in here. A good mix of people and some great music playing. Service was good, too, although I was a little confused if it was bar service or table service. We sat down and the bartender came over and took our order and then got busy and never came back. Not a big deal, we just went up to the bar after that. All their brews are stellar, although I loved the Toxic Zombie the best. They serve food, too, but since we were getting some pizza down the street we didn't partake. We'll be back!

Black Sky Brewery is possibly one of Denver's most underrated breweries. I say that because I often mention them to people who don't even know they exist, and they clearly don't know what they're missing. Black Sky has some incredible beers of their own, plus guest taps of other great Colorado breweries. The prices are great - you can decide if you want a taster, a 10-ounce pour or a full pint. I love the 10-ounce pours so that I can try more varieties of their delicious beer. My favorites are usually their stouts. On my most recent visit I had their Chocolate Mint and the Pistachio Chocolate Mint stouts - both incredible. If you happen to be there when they have their Blackberry stout, this is a must have (and my favorite!) This past visit I also fell in love with their Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, which is insanely good! Black Sky offers plenty of lighter offerings too, and has a delicious Saison and some great wheat beers - but their dark beers are always my favorites. Maybe it's all the metal music, but something about this place just makes me want a dark beer. Speaking of the music, yes they are hard rock but it's not a place that non-metal heads should avoid. The atmosphere is very open and inviting, so even if you're more into Manilow than Metal, you can probably hang out here. As another reviewer put it, they like metal, but it's not really in-your-face. Another big plus to Black Sky is their food. They make some incredible pizza, calzones, garlic knots and headbanger rolls (stuffed dough.) They know their dough, and have several delicious ways to serve it to you. Arrive hungry!

Great beers, decent food. Good staff. Overall a nice brewery.
(4)Cynthia H.
Good brews, reasonable prices. Definitely heavy metal themed but less in your face than TRVE. Nice place to hang out. Food was just ok.
(4)Conrad S.
If craft beer and Black Sabbath had a spawn in the form of an establishment it would be this. The ladies behind the bar were so nice, and they werent snobby hipster, nor did they seem like they would take anyone's shit like the typical brewery hipsters. Its greatly located near movement. I also like that they feature other breweries beers. Overall this place was kickass.
(5)Cullen E.
In my slightly less than two years in Colorado (thanks Army) my goal was to visit 100 Colorado breweries. I'm proud to say that Black Sky was #100. We stopped here just prior to the Sat afternoon GABF session and were not disappointed. We had a full flight of their own beers and enjoyed almost all of them, which is rare. Their pizzas were great as well, so stop on by.
(5)Amanda W.
I absolutely love this place! The beer is amazing as well as the pizza. Affordable and a great time. The staff is always friendly and music is always good If I could start everyday here I would! I'll definitely keep coming back for more as I have since I discovered black sky!
(5)Darren H.
Prompt service throughout our entire stay. Had the demonseed IPA and the cephalic skunk wheat. Both were very good. IPA was full bodied and not just a lager infused with a ton of hops like some places create. Pizza was good as well. Everything was very fairly priced. Good selection of music considering deathcore would not attract the older crowd but would like to see some metalcore and deathcore music selections (as I lay dying, winds of plague, the art is murder, etc.) Will definitely go back to Black Sky.
(5)Priscilla The Cat ..
I am updating my review and bumping the star rating by 1 star. I stopped in recently, and saw there were a few new beers on tap, and I really, really enjoyed the Chucks IPA! I haven't tried the others yet, but, I will definitely be back in to try them. Thank You Black Sky for trying something new, and highly succeeding with it! I can honestly say I will be back in for another beer (chucks IPA )very soon!
(4)Christopher G.
We stopped at Black Sky after a Yelp event next door at the space gallery. I had two beers, both of which were awesome. Which is great to say. . so many times i've tried breweries and you can taste their not good. . . Not black sky. Solid beers. . .a good few on draft, and a few guest beers While there we saw a lot of people eating pizza. The pizza looked good. . maybe next time the decor was maximum "dive" with nice amount of rock and roll and old arcade games. One step from walking onto the sons of anarchy set. . .but that was alright for our party.
(4)J R.
Like this place. Pizza is quite good. Good beers. Friendly people. Nice background music Great service. I'll be back
(5)Mike H.
Love the scene and amazing beers and the bartender was odd but very cool. When I come back to Colorado I will return
(5)Susan S.
Killer brews here. Don't be intimidated by the metal theme, the bar is hardly metal at all. Lots of seating inside. Had the Caesar salad and its was just okay, not sure how the other food is there. Worth going to if your in the area.
(4)Dale Z.
I must say, this place seems to get better on each subsequent visit. On my most recent visit (a bit of a beer pre-function before Yelp Casino Night) I tried several beers, and did not dislike any of them. The Demon version with sweet potatoes and chilies was not bad at all. It had a slow, but noticeable burn that was alleviated by the overall sweetness. The hazelnut Porter and chocolate version of the same were quite tasty. And the Saison being served was a fine beer indeed. I look forward to my next visit, a couple months down the road, because if the trend continues, the beers will just keep getting tastier.
(4)John S.
The service was very unpleasant. The bartender seemed angry at the customers. I came in to get a beer and after talking to the service it made me want to never come back.
(1)Cindy L.
I really enjoyed the theme of this place. The beer was fantastic and the bartenders are awesome. I just think there should be a time when kids are no longer allowed in. Very awkward having drunk parents yell and spank their kids on the patio while I'm trying to enjoy a beer. We left because of it.
(4)Jeff S.
The wall outside breaks it down quite simply - beer, pizza, metal. That's what you'll find here. And that's just fine with me. I came here on a Saturday afternoon and popped a squat at the bar. I sampled 3 of the beers before choosing, the Demonseed IPA, the Toxic Zombie, and (based upon Frances G.'s review, the Petal to the Metal. The former was my favorite, but each had their own unique spin and good flavor. What I really like is that besides their own brews they host other small local breweries as well. That's classy, if you ask me. I ordered a couple of slices of pizza as well. I got real lucky as they were baking a brand new slice pie at the time so I got to taste it fresh out of the oven. I sampled a couple of toppings, they have very tasty meatballs, but the sausage is delicious. I don't know any details but they put some special spin on it, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and suggest it may involve beer. The sauce is very tangy and basic and I enjoyed it. The only downside to the pie in my opinion was the crust. I felt it was pretty flavorless, but I care more about what's on top than what's underneath. (You know, because I'm superficial.) They also offer a good variety of sandwiches. Inside is pretty much exactly what I pictured. Open, basic, lots of chain link fence decor, black walls and darkly lit, good heavy metal music in the air and horror movies on the tube. The bartender, whom I learned is also the co-owner, was very friendly and gladly answered my questions. I've already invited several friends to come here for an excursion, so I'll be back. Cheers!

This place is pretty awesome. Good music, good beer, good food and superb service! Highly recommend any of their in house brews!
(5)John S.
I give it one star for the food and one for the beer, which are both quite good. Unfortunately, the place takes itself too seriously when it comes to adhering to the heavy metal theme. Example: Black Sky was mostly deserted last Saturday night except for my group of about 8 and a small group of 40-somethings that did not appear to be serious metal fans. After a few rounds of beer and pizza, we grew tired of the ad nauseam screaming of contemporary metal and put 5 bucks in the jukebox. If the place had been crowded, or we'd gotten the impression that anyone there had been particularly enjoying the default music, we never would have used the jukebox. Also, while our selections weren't exactly heavy metal, we made an effort to select songs that could be considered dark and/or heavy but less contemporary. Citing "customer complaints", the bartender skipped several of the tracks we paid for, openly criticized our choices and stopped by our table to theatrically give us a few quarters in return for what we'd played. We asked him, "Why the hell do you have a jukebox?" and he replied with something about how management had screwed up and they weren't allowed to customize the available list. He basically went out of his way to make us feel unwelcome. I get that Black Sky Brewery is trying to establish a brand and a particular atmosphere, but alienating people that use their jukebox seems like the wrong way to go about it. We left with a bad taste in our mouths and I doubt we'll return--which is a shame since we all live in the neighborhood and its location would make it a perfect local hangout.
(2)Jared L.
I love you Black Sky you encompass many things I love into one place. Metal... check... sign that says stupid songs ordered on the jukebox will be skipped... check... awesome garlic nubbin' bread bites and great pizza.... check. The part I love about this place also is everyone that works there is awesome. If you like, beer, pizza and metal or just one of those things this is definitely a place you need to visit.
(5)Megan T.
Such great pizza & delicious beer. As good as the beer is the pizza is even better. Staff is so friendly and it's a great place to hang out
(4)Edmond L.
Here for a Friday lunch on a holiday week, and it was the best choice. Great atmosphere, not very crowded and bartender very friendly. Had the house salad and soup, best cold day combination. Recommend having some samplers b4 your pint selection. They have a good selection and some guest taps.
(5)Jessica J.
I really dug what Black Sky had going on and I can't say that I care it is the second Heavy Metal Brewery in the area (and not the first). They had a great, low key atmosphere, decent beers (their own and a good selection of other local brews), food (yay, how many breweries nowadays just have beer and no food) and fun rock n roll environment. My favorite beer was the Toxic Zombie Pale (Ale). It was very smooth and drinkable. The Petal to the Metal with the rose and hibiscus was interesting, but I am not sure I could do a whole pint of it. At any rate, they will get you samplers of whatever you want so you can build your own taster menu. The only thing I would say was a little off was there was only 1 bartender on Saturday afternoon so he was a bit over worked and you had to actually go to the bar to order and take it back to the table - this was fine, but he comes out for the first round and then goes MIA, just say you have order at the bar so you don't sit there! Anyways, give it a try, it was nice brewery on Santa Fe.
(4)Jeff H.
I wrote a review of this place two weeks ago but apparently someone erased it. So once again I wish to point out what a bizarre place it is . The quality of the beer, food , atmosphere are exceeded by several brew pubs within a 5 mile radius but this place is unique in a strangely ominous way. Recently I was playing the juke box. I had placed 10$ in it and had selected several songs which began playing. An employee came over and told me I had to play " only metal " songs as if there was an approved list. When I protested I was asked to leave. While understanding that the entire metal genre is a sheep-like, conformist enterprise, it is difficult to imagine a censorship impulse within their death, graves, skulls obsession. This is a threatening, scary place.

Still getting started, but yummo these beers are tasty! They just opened, but are rocking it so far! It is a great large space and they serve food and booze too!! They have a bloody mary bar in the mornings as far as I can tell. We checked it out last Saturday afternoon and it was delightful! They had three of their own brews available and a plethora of other local brews on tap (Dry Dock, Elk Mountain, Renegade). As soon as they crank up their production, you better believe I am getting a growler or two! The samples were $2 each and all three were super delish! They had the Demon Seed IPA, which was good but I am not a huge hopper, an American Ale called Black Light that was very popular and my personal favorite Petal to the Metal! It had rose hips and hibiscus and was a-freaking-mazing! I feel I might be finding myself in that area of town more often! Rock on!
(5)Becca R.
I was not blown away by Black Sky. Perhaps if I hadn't already been to TRVE, a metal brewery would seem like a great idea. However, if you're going to be the second brewery in the neighborhood to capitalize on such a theme, you better make sure you're doing a great job-- and right now, I think Black Sky is doing an average job. As far as the overall ambiance goes, there's a spacious layout with a bar and probably 10-15 small tables for dining. There is art up on the walls, and it's well lit. They kept the music at a background level, at least while I was there, and had two televisions by the bar. Nice space, did not strike me as being particularly "metal". Sure, slapping some paintings with pentagrams up on the wall and playing a certain theme of music helps, but to me it just seemed like a neighborhood bar trying to play up a concept they'd seen work elsewhere. Eh. The food was okay. Definitely nothing exceptional. The red sauce on the pizza tasted like tomato paste from a can. The service was very friendly-- we had two different severs come check up on us throughout the night, they struck the perfect balance of being attentive without being obnoxious. They even gave me a free beer after I ordered three different beers they were all out of. And that brings me to the beer: Average. I ordered a Groovey's Purple Beerd to start, which I believe was brewed with black currants. It was okay, definitely drinkable but not memorable. My friend ordered the Ale to Yoto, a blueberry wheat, which I was actually very impressed by. Another one of my friends ordered the Cephalic Skunk wheat, which I did not enjoy. He found it to be rather flat, as did another girl who ordered one of their beers (I can't remember which one). She told the server it was flat and he brought her a different kind--- but why, at a brewery, are two kegs of your own beer flat? To me, that's completely unacceptable. I also tried a sip of the chocolate mint stout, which my friend really enjoyed but I though tasted like Nyquil. To each their own, I suppose. With so many options for beer, food, or even metal in the neighborhood, I would look elsewhere.

After DAYS of traveling and drinking around Colorado, we finally made it back to Denver and over to Black Sky. I hate to admit this, but at this point in our beercation I was almost sick of drinking. No worries though...as soon as I walked in and heard the metal music blasting, saw the sick skull and metal decor, and tasted my first sip of the sweet nectar they offered, I was magically up for more drinking. I don't know what it is about Colorado but almost every brewery we went to on our trip was playing Bluegrass, College Indie Rock, or whatever else the hipsters are listening to these days. This was the first brewery I walked into where my ears weren't bleeding from the twang of banjos plucking. To each his own, though. The beers were all pretty good...I ended up just getting a sissy 10 oz.'er or something and my man sampled a few tasters. The bartender also poured us a few freebie samples while we talked so we could try some other styles as well. They all had really nice aromas and good flavor. I didn't have anything I wouldn't drink a full pint of. Bottom line is this: Get your butt over here and give them a try. And if you don't like metal, bring some earplugs and quit 'yer bitching. If I can listen to Bluegrass to drink some decent beers, you can listen to metal for an hour or two. Trust me, it doesn't kill you.

Ughh Black Sky... Our love-hate relationship continues like a bad high school romance. I like your beer. I don't like your disgruntled staff. I love your beer. I detest your greasy food. I really love your beer. I hate that you don't allow dogs on your patio (it's a PATIO...and it's DENVER...and it's a BREWERY...) And just like a true dysfunctional relationship, I will return to you for liquid love but continue to feel empty inside. Sigh...
(3)Megan M.
I appreciate that they put on free shows and the large facilities they have. The patio is nice and there is ample seating. However, beyond that I would choose Trve over this place every time. Black Sky seems to draw an oddly family-oriented crowd. I don't much care for the pizza (dry, thick, garlic-y crust and half-melted cheese) and the beer is okay, but nothing spectacular. If anything, go for the Petal to the Metal and a free show and be on your way. (EDIT- have to give them props on their seasonal pumpkin stout. Comes in a glass rimmed with pumpkin spice sugar, embodies a full smooth flavor, it's delicious! Better than the regular stouts on the menu. Try it!)
(3)Jolene H.
The Beef Dip in the pizza dough pocket was very tasty. Great au jus. There were about 12 in our party, and it took 1.25 hrs to be served. Waiter was nice, though. May not be a good place for business lunches, but the food was outstanding.
(3)Frances G.
I really like what they've got going on here. New to the Sante Fe Arts District locale, it seems to be impressing its neighbors. On a Saturday night, we wandered in for shelter and beer after trekking in the snow and were pleasantly surprised - not only by the prompt and excellent service, the the adventurous beers, as well. Out the five, very unique tasters available in their standard flight, I enjoyed the Pedal To The Metal most. Not only for it's play on words (it's a flower/fragrant forward tasting beer, but also a metal inspired brew pub) but it's differently flavor, as well. I am not usually into the flower-tasting anything. But they've mastered the subtlety of the pedal flavor combined with a pretty high ABV. Good stuff here and I can't wait to return to my neighborhood brewery!
(4)Sergei V.
These bearded folk know them beers. A plethora of tasty beverages brewed in house. Do go here
(5)Jennifer W.
The food and beers were excellent. The bartender was very nice. I bought a super cool shirt. This place is a dream for metal and goth kids who love pizza and beer.
(5)Alden C.
Arguably this is Denver's second heavy metal themed brewery. Some say that TRVE is also in this theme. Personally I think Black Sky is more tried and true to this since there are lots of black t-shirts hung on the wall and art that only a metalhead would love! It would not be complete if they did not have loud music and the singer giving out a resounding death growl. I am passed my days as a metalhead, if I could ever had considered myself one. I think I consider myself as an aging industrialhead but who really is keeping track? I appreciate this place all the same. Aside from the atmosphere the beer is really what drove me to give this place a five star rating. They have tasty, interesting and innovative beers, that much is for certain. They had a couple of stouts on hand which caught my eye. They had a Blackberry Stout that caught my attention but what really got me was their Mint Pistachio Stout. Oh, my goodness was this stout good! It was a kind of flavor and variety I have not come across before and my constant, wandering and always continuing odyssey to seek out craft beers that are memorable and delicious! I highly recommend this place!
(5)Nick L.
Think more brewpub than brewery for Black Sky. Yes they make their own beer but they also have other breweries beers and food. So that's where the brewpub aspect comes in. The beer selection includes mostly CO breweries with a few out of state ones mixed in. I'm sure the mix will change as they make more of their own beer. Good selection non the less. I've stopped in a few times and really liked the pizza. I'm not sure if it's the idea of being able to be in a "brewery" in Colorado and order food ... or if the food is really that good. Either way, I'm a fan of both the pizza and the beer at Black Sky. Good addition to the Denver brewery scene!
(4)Bryan M.
This place is rad! The food and beer are outstanding, incredible quality and a clear appreciation for craft. The staff was very outgoing and makes even a nonmetal group feel right at home, I will absolutely be going back.
(5)Danielle S.
I'm just completely not into heavy metal. Or the accoutrements that go along with it. BUT. I enjoyed myself here. I wouldn't come running back, but it was a good experience. The bar staff was friendly, the location was open and light enough so I didn't feel like I was in a cave, and they serve some great pizza, which, if you've read my other reviews, is HARD to find in this Denver Metro area. Also, turns out, they serve pizza by the slice, which we figured out after we ordered a whole one. The whole ones come in one size, and that size was "Too big for two people." I agree they should expand their tap selection, but I think they're working on it.
(3)Marc A.
This place is cool. I went on a Sunday afternoon, so the scene was pretty mellow. Slayer quietly playing in the background... a tennis match on the tv. I like that they have a few rotating guest brews on tap. I'll be back to witness some death metal madness at some point.
(4)Richard R.
Soo much potential here - I can't wait to see what comes next! The whole vibe of this place is killer - but in the good way. Love the metal, love the art, love the open space and ample seating. It can only get better from here. I really enjoyed the Black Light beer which was really smooth. The house IPA was decent but I'm not big on the hoppitty hops so decent is good. I want to try the Percephone wheat beer next time I come...it sure sounds delish. Something unique about this place is that they serve beer from other breweries such as Dry Dock and Renegade. Talk about a one stop shop for all your local beer needs! Also, they serve food which is a good thing for a long day of brewery hopping. I look forward to trying out the grub. Our server was really nice and attentive. Just like you expect from heavy metal - it looks rough but really it's awesome, supportive and stable. The location is also really great so I'm for sure a fan of Black Sky!
(4)Jennifer N.
I would have given this place five stars but I think they put too much Satan in the pizza because my boyfriend and I both had terrible, demonic nightmares the night we ate there. The beer was some of the best I've had around here and the pizza had a smoky flavor to it. I'll definitely be back because the bad dreams were worth it.
(4)Aaron E.
Enjoyable! Black Sky is very new and finding their footing, but so far so good. The 4 beers they have created each tasted good, maybe a little on the new side and not quite as refined as they could be, but definitely a great start. I also thought supplementing their other tap's with area craft brews was a great idea to promote local brews, as well as, keep the supply coming without running out. The space was cool, has a cool heavy metal vibe without being intimidating to the average brewery goer. I recommend hitting this place up and checking it out for yourself!
(4)Meagan P.
Demonseed! That, and you will not meet more awesome people. The food is good and the menu just keeps getting better.
(5)Natalie G.
Great vibe, patio, beer and pizza. Only tried the Demonseed and Petal to the Metal today. Look forward to coming back for more with some pizza. They do serve up other local beers which is great! They've got good local spirits as well! Definitely check this place out!
(4)Kyle R.
I have been two Black Sky 2 times now. I live in the Baker neighborhood and anxiously awaited this place to open. I went on opening day and there was a solid group of people there. However, they did not have any one their own beers on tap. Not a problem since it was the first day and I'm sure they just wanted to be open asap. I went back this past Friday night and was very disappointed. They only had 2 of their beers on tap, and one was already gone. I ordered a pizza as well which has a thick coating of flour on the bottom which overpowered everything else. I am most disappointed in the service. After sitting down, a waitress did promptly take our drink and food order, but we never saw here or another server again over 45 minutes. I had to go to the bar and ask for our tab. When brought to our table, no one came to collect so again I had to go wait in line and take it to the bar. The bright point in this bar is that they serve other brewery's beers. When they have more of their own on tap there will be a nice diversity to choose from. I'm still eager to try one of their beers, but if I have awful service again then that will be the end of me trying them out.
(2)Mr. T.
im not into metal. I disliked the pizza. Food came in a greasy tray( not clean )
(2)Caley S.
Still loving it. Headed there for lunch- the garlic knots are AMAZING. We were all talking about how great they were on the car ride back to the office.
(5)Byron R.
More of a 3.5 stars. Two of their beers were on tap. Sadly, they were not the ones that I was hoping to try. One was a light ale with hibiscus and rose. This makes for an interesting color, but too light for my tastes ~4%ABV. The other was an imperial pumpkin stout, made with real pumpkins (72lbs of them) ~ a little over 8%ABV. This beer is solid and got better as I drank it. There were several on the coming soon list that sound interesting. Were some of these currently on tap, I likely would up the rating. As others have mentioned they carry a nice selection from other local brewers, which varies in style category. I had the headbanger roll for lunch and for the price it was spot on. The kitchen is fine tuning their skills to produce a good product. The atmosphere is not really like Trve, if that is a concern or is what you are looking for. The space is larger, brighter, and roomier. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The hours are: Monday: closed Tues - Thurs: 11AM-12AM Fri-Sat: 11AM-2AM Sun: 11AM-12AM

I don't see it. the food was mediocre at best, canned cold sauce for the garlic bread and the pizza. I also feel that 5 is a lot for a beer that is only 3% abv. I would not recomend for the beer or the pizza

In short: the pizza is bad, the calzones are good, the beer is ok . They aren't even the best heavy metal brewery in a one mile radius. But they're ok if you want a calzone and a beer. I'll start with the beer. Their heavy metal theme applies to the beer. The Krampus Ale has a metallic after-taste. The Demon Phoenix, a green chile and sweet potato beer, was a green chile beer without the sweet potato. It wasn't bad. The blackberry beer is just undrinkable. The carbonation has been off a few times. The others are hit or miss, but the Demonseed IPA is good and so is the Toxic Zombie Pale Ale. Avoid Petal to the Metal. In short, their ales are good. Everything else appears to be some "stunt" beer, and they aren't delivering. That said, in a crowded market, that may make sense. If they get one hit, they are set. But in the meanwhile, we are the test lab. As for their food, the pizza is not good. It is greasy. The bread lacks any of the attribute you expect in a pizza crust, the toppings lack punch, and the presentation is poor. Their calzones, however, are terrific. I think the problem with the pizza crust has to do with thickness, and the fact that the dough they are using doesn't do well when thin and cooked the way they are doing it. They should use a different dough for the pizza crust and keep doing what they are doing with the calzones. The service here has always been good. It is prompt, friendly, and competent.

Great brewery and amazing pizza! The staff is talkative and attentive. They have crazy beer flavors that taste great! Beer to try: demonseed IPA and Demon Phoenix!
(5)Michael H.
Decent spot with a "metal theme" and a huge skylight above the bar! I didn't like any of their beers very much but they do have guest taps and food. Great guest taps/ beer list was like 6 of their beers and 8 guest taps. Food/Pizza also.. service great I think I just came on a bad day! Get Dat Did

Even a vintage swinging cat has got to like a heavy metal brewery. While I can't say that the beers proffered in this joint rank highly on my list, I give them credit for making the attempt at some pretty off-kilter concoctions. I'm not a fan of Petal to the Metal, though I want to like it. Many of the beers taste a bit undercarbonated; me, I like that fizz, man. Often I migrate down the list of draughts, to the guest taps, which is unfortunate. For me, what allows me to give this place 4 stars is its damn fine slices. Whatever they are doing to whip up pie of this caliber shouldn't be tampered with. Only thing I might change is to ensure each customer gets an equivalently sized slice. This will prevent metal-heads from going apeshit. One other suggestion is to crank up that stereo a bit. I would rather hear Rob Halford or Mustaine freaking out, than some yippie, yuppie flak.

Friendlier service than Trve. Great space to kick the teeth of Catholics in. The beer selection is good but not as good as Trve. A time to be had slaying beers and enjoying pizza. Food options are a plus whereas Trve does not do food.

Two stars. We talked to a friendly bartender. Which bumped this review to two stars instead of one. The metal theme isn't my style.. But I was impressed by the size of the brewery. A lot of room to mingle and sit down. Okay, enough small talk. The beer.... Tried the mint stout, an IPA, and a couple of wheat beers. By far he worst beers I've ever tasted at a local brewery in Denver. The mint stout tasted like black licorice/medicine... Hard to finish even a 10oz glass. The IPA was even worse... Tasted like dirty dish water.. Was so bitter it was impossible to enjoy. The wheat beers didn't taste normal and were too tart/sour. I wouldn't recommend this place.. Not worth the money spent. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth, literally.

Black Sky could be so great, buuuuut...eh. It isn't, really. Their own beers run from run-of-the-mill (IPAs) to disappointing (rose petals). And the lineup of their own beers is heavy on stunt beers -- the last time we were in they had 5 different stouts/porters (mint, mint chocolate, etc.) but few solid styles. And the pizza tends to be undercooked and disappointing. With so many other options, including another heavy metal brewery in the neighborhood, it's hard to recommend Black Sky.

Went to this place for the second time tonight. With little to choose from as far as eating and drinking in the Santa Fe art district, I was hoping this place could be a new hang out. After tonight, though, we won't be going back. My fiance and I went here because he wanted to get a couple of beers. We thought Breckenridge was already closed down since I heard they were moving but when we drove past, it was open. Wish we would have gone there instead. My fiance said he still was ok with going to Black Sky so we went. It was more crowded this time than it was back in December when we went; I was happy to see they were doing well as far as business. We sat at the bar and my fiance ordered a beer (I forgot my ID like an idiot so I drank water). After sitting for about ten minutes, my fiance got up to go smoke outside. He said "Excuse me" to the bartender/server to find out if the patio was smoking or non-smoking. Rather loudly the guy behind the bar said "Hold on a second man. I have to pour these beers and I'll be with you." My fiance then replied "Oh, I don't need to order; I just had a question." Then, the guy says, "Hold on man! I'll get with you when I'm done pouring these beers!" My fiance then came back over to me and said "Ok, guess I'll just find out for myself." I thought the guy was extremely rude for no reason; my fiance is very polite and was just going to ask if the patio was a smoking patio. The guy behind the bar was just pouring a couple of beers; it's not like he had a tray full of food and/or drinks. I served for many years and always had time to answer a quick question from customers. It's not that hard to multitask and if you can't, you have no business working in the service industry. So, on to the food. I decided to order food even though the guy was rude and I honestly wanted to leave after the interaction between him and my fiance. I ordered a calzone with garlic. It came out promptly and was huge! I was very excited because it looked realllllly tasty. However, it was anything BUT. The sauce was bland and I'm usually not very picky when it comes to anything in the pizza family. The sauce tasted like straight tomato sauce. Awful and flavorless. Then comes the garlic like a ton of freaking bricks. Holy crap. I've never tasted anything so awful in my life. It literally tasted like the cook dumped an entire jar of that minced garlic on my calzone. The garlic was not cooked at all; I was eating raw chunks of straight garlic. It didn't taste super fresh either but good Lord, the garlic was overpowering. Between the jar of pre minced garlic and the tomato sauce, I was finished after around four bites. The only redeeming quality of the calzone was the crust/dough. It was pretty good. Man, what a disappointing experience. Rude bartender and disappointing food. The beer is pretty good but we will not be returning to this place. My nose is STILL hurting from the amount of garlic I just consumed in four bites of that crappy calzone.

Great beer, great service. The clams casino pizza is out of this world!!!!
(5)James P.
A good local brewery with a good choice of brews which they make, plus pizza! The staff were very attentive as well. It has a very local and neighborhood vibe to, and was worth the trek out from Golden.
(4)Nika G.
Black sky brewery is a very interesting place! It's a very large space, creatively decorated, with lots of seating, and just enough light pouring in thanks to the sky lights. Their lunch special is really great- $8 for 2 huge slices of pizza and a beer. The pizzas were really really good, as was the beer. No complaints at all about anything! Go and check it out!
(5)Erik K.
First off, this is a brewery, and the beers we had were amazing and unique. We tried almost all of their offerings and I can even say their "light" beer was quite enjoyable. The reason for the lower rating? The food was terrible, and served accompanied by apologies from the waiter who was taking care of us. Most of the things our table ordered were burned on the bottom. I'm sure we'll be back, however, we might eat before arriving the next time and just go for the drinks.

This place rocks! As a weed smoking hippie I find no problem with them being a death metal bar but maybe that's just because I'm not a judgmental piece of shit that subtracts stars from a place based on the theme of their choosing... I mean it's their place right. Their beers are fantastic and have lots of cool features. Such as using local organic fresh hops to hop the Demonseed. Or how about making an über delicious light beer with rose petals in it that even dudes can feel comfy in their manhood while drinking. I'll agree that they don't have a hundred beers on tap like some shitty chains in America but I find the high quality more then makes up for it. Every beer rocks! Having worked in multiple breweries and brewpubs I have yet to find many that have a shit ton of their own beers on tap... Especially from the get go. For instance, I believe Vine street pub only started out with 3 of their own beers on tap out of 21 taps on a wall. Maybe I'm crazy but its hard for me take away stars from a place based on not having 60 of their own beers on tap, especially with such creative and fantastic tasting beers. The food here is awesome as well. One of a few places in town that actually uses San Marzanos in their sauce and doesn't over spice with dry herbs. Nice crust as well. Being from Chicago, I have no idea what New Haven style even means but I do know it belongs in my face going down the fat kid hole. Now maybe I don't know pizza... And now maybe you went full retard for even entertaining the idea. Staff wise I think these guys rock. I will agree that they could possibly have a couple more Epic Mustachios, but I can't take off stars for that. Overall, I love this place! Granted I'm not a local Baker snob that's been waiting forever for another place to hold my nose up at. I'm just a hard working, barrio living, craft beer drinking, occasional illicit substance consuming rabble rouser. To me this place is like Micheal Jackson moonwalking while holding hands with sweet baby Jesus... In other words, EPIC!
(5)Rich L.
God, I love this place! Great food, and expanding their menu, as they grow. Excellent beer, and the heaviest of metal playing through the speakers! Very nice people running the joint, and the music isn't so loud that you can't have a conversation. The pizza that I tried had a great garlic-like taste, and the sauce wasn't real sweet. Pizza isn't supposed to be sweet, d*mn it! Looking forward to trying more dishes & beer. I just wish I didn't live so far away from this place. :( I thought it was well worth the drive, personally.
(5)David B.
I was pleasantly surprised by the good beers made by Black Sky. The heavy metal music and "dark" decor are not for me, but the service was friendly and helpful and my wife and I both enjoyed the Petal to the Metal and the Black Lite. I would definitely go back, especially since we didn't get a chance to try the food.
(4)Amy p.
I read reviews and wanted to try this new brewery by my house. Maybe they were having an off night? Pizza was gross and they messed that order up. Service want good either.I could and would have drank more beer but the waiter wasn't around much.it wasn't busy either so I am not sure why. Beer was so so. Not my favorite new brewery.

We came here for the first time with a group of friends. I will say this using the "complement sandwich" model. First of all, the beer was amazing. They had this chocolate mint stout that was awesome, the Petal to the Metal was great and the one with the word Beerd (Purple Beerd? something like that) was awesome too. Like so awesome I may come get a growler of it soon. Now the bad. The food was terrible. I don't usually expect much with bar food, but this place was exceptionally bad. Our table got a pizza and a few calzones. The pizza wasn't round, which usually doesn't bother me and proves that there is a real human back there making it, but it came out smaller and in this weird half moon shape, which to me is a bit of a ripoff. Also every single calzone was burnt and mine in particular was really charred. I ended up eating the top half and all the filling, but left the bottom half. One of our table ordered his calzone with clams and there was probably 4 bits of chopped clam in the whole thing. We brought it to the attention of our server, who explained it was a new kitchen staff tonight and left it at that. And now for the slightly soggy bottom half of this complement sandwich. Our server was pretty good. I have a feeling he is the owner or a manager or something, he had an air of authority about him. He was nice, talked about the beers and the art and was very attentive. I spose the only reason I won't rate him as excellent is that when we all brought our food problems to his attention he seemed very uninterested in doing anything to remedy it. I admit, I am never one to ask for food to be remade (17 years of working in restaurants has taught me that) but I do appreciate it the establishment notices that you didn't eat half of what you paid for because of their blunder and tries to make up for it. This did not happen. Will we be back? Probably. The beer is that good, and I bet this place would be awesome after a great summer night art walk on Santa Fe. We will probably just go eat at a food truck beforehand and let these guy do what they do best, which is beer.
(3)Dave P.
Industrial Rock -n- Roll brewery and cheap appetizers...yea, this place rocks. Pizza is good, the appetizers are very good, and cheap, and sharable, and quick, and hot...and...and...well, you get it. Don't go for atmosphere unless you enjoy a warehouse that stores sheet metal and fencing. This is just a place for good, honest beer and food. It's not a Pub, or a Bar and Grill...so don't go expecting that. If, instead, you want just good beer and a quick bite, this is the place. My advice, go here before going on the art walk on Santa Fe, get fueled up, walk around, and come back to cap off the night.

Ive seen this place a dozen times before I finaly stopped in after work on a friday.I can say this place is awesome! I was expecting heavy metal but instead was treated to some punk, that brought a smile to my face.Nothing like some misfits on a friday to get things going.I would give this place five stars or 4 and a half but there ipa deffinitly had an old hop medicinal taste to it,everything else killed it! The Krampus is way to easy drinking and the pedal with roses and hibiscus took me by surprise. Not a frilly beer drinker but it was spot on.My girlfriend got the cherry cider and we split a pie both pretty damn good.
(4)Shea W.
Here's what you go here for: good vibe, good beers, amazing food in every pizza form possible. Here's what you don't go here for: the beer cheese soup. I'll start with all the great things about Black Sky! Love the vibe in there! Feels like a garage in the best way possible! Black Sky makes their own house beers (the saison was spot on!). They also have some rotating guest brews. There is a beer for everyone here. Lots of strong IPA options, fruity flowery options, ciders and dark chocolatey beers too. Looks like they may have a full bar too! At first I thought I only saw whiskeys but I definitely saw a vodka! The menu is CHOCK full of pizza and pizza type options. There are cheesy breads (basically pizza without the sauce), calzones (basically pizza), head banger rolls (an individual sized calzone almost like a sandwich but a calzone), personal pizzas and big pizzas to share! The buffalo chicken head banger roll was absolutely amazing. You know how when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would eat pizza, the cheese was so stringy and delicious that it would stretch super long and snap back at them? The cheese here does this. Stringiest mozza in town, folks. I'm going back to try that Clam Pizza! So excited! Do not get the beer cheese soup. Seems like its just their queso dip with a spoon and it tastes bad and is waaaaaay too salty. Everything else here is amazing and well worth 4 stars!

three not so small parts: beer, food, service/people. I found this brewery via yelp. I grew up on metal in Chicago and its scene. This place is extremely clean, open, tons of natural light. from the 'tenders to the cooks everyone has been friendly and conversational. attentive and informative. it's a great neighborhood gem. beer: Let me start by saying I dont go to breweries for mixed drinks or hard drinks (go anywhere and you can get a drink from a bottle) I go for the beer, I'm not knowledgeable in the crafting but I know my tastes vary and I'm not going to keep going to a place if their drinks are shit. the selections of house or guest beers have been filling and full of flavor to suit what ever attitude I have at that moment, from light to dark. I even brought home a couple of growlers and enjoyed each glass. the beers tend to be on the stronger side alcohol wise about 7-9% few less than that (4-5%). I've brought a few of my friends here whom are not in to metal and they had a great time, be it on the patio, spacious for the space, shady and sunny. I sat out their for hours mid afternoon finding some shade, and I've sat out there for a few minutes when I couldn't but that's Colorado life. the food, I'm a bit picky on pizza and not the hugest fan...filling, none the less, now the other side of the menu, every damn thing is really a meal. just completely delicious. while sitting at the bar, table or outside it had people ask me what I am having,in a positive way, because the aroma wafted past them. It probably had about 7-10 different items on the menu at this point and even got to try some of their experiments and it has been a great experience. people: seriously I see all types come through there, from the girly pop college age to the older locals. people like good beer, chill places and positive atmosphere. if you want to be catered to then this isn't going to be your place, I would try something where that type of service is included in the price tag. but if you want a fair price and fair people walk in the door and give it a shot, say hi.
(4)Lonnie B.
I was a little disappointed with my experience at this brewery. First, I didn't like the atmosphere. It's dreary, gray, and ugly. Some of the beers were ok, but none really knocked my socks off. They were out of most of the beers that we had come there to try. They serve pizza and play non stop heavy metal. I suspected that if I had the look of a metal head I would have fit in better and possibly received friendlier service.
(2)Susan H.
Their beer is unremarkable (if I were unkind, I would say "yucky"), but I love that they are there for the Hessian Heavy Metal set. It seems like a good gathering place for that lot. When we visited there was a patron who had been Waaaaaaay over served, and to make matters more ridiculous, he kept dropping a liquor store plastic pint of whiskey out of his pants pocket onto the floor. He needed to be cut off, for his own safety, but no one seemed concerned. I'm all for alternative lifestyles but there is a little thing called the law, and breaking it can result in losing your license and a big fat fine.
(2)Sasha L.
Upon entering this place, my boyfriend and I liked the atmosphere but agreed it didn't seem all that "metal" aside from a few skull decorations and some artwork off on the wall opposite the bar. Also the music being played was not metal, it was clearly punk. I am not complaining, I am not a metal head myself. But if you are seeking out a metal bar, after going to Trve instead, Black Sky seems a little bit..lacking with it's attempt to follow its theme. We sat down and were served right away. Service here was great. My guy got the Krampus Ale. The flavor was pretty good, but there was a slight metallic off flavor going on, and lack of carbonation. I sampled the "Pedal to the metal" which was very light and super refreshing, the kind of beer you would enjoy in the summertime. The carbonation was on point and the flavor was good. I ended up getting The Demon Phoenix. It was a green chili and sweet potato beer. This can be tricky, chili beers are hard to do and so are vegetable beers. They got it just right with the flavor, but again there was a carbonation problem. This beer had NO carbonation at all. This is unfortunate because I would have loved this beer otherwise. The spice was just right it was so good and had a beautiful aroma and color. Weary to order another beer with no carbonation and potential metallic off flavors, we opted for the guest beers. It is pretty cool they offer this here. They have some great taps of local stuff, we both got the Chocolate Shake. Always a favorite. The carbonation was correct on it and it was a nice dessert to end the night with. Glad we came in to see what it's all about, but we don't plan on coming back anytime soon. They still have a couple kinks to work out. A brewery this size should not be having carbonation problems with their brews or off flavors.
(2)Sharon R.
I only had time for a quick beer. I had the Chocolate Mint Stout. OMG!!! Out of this world GREAT! The gal beside me had one of their pizzas that looked awesome. It was refreshing to be able to order food and not have to go to a food truck. I'll definitely be back and try one of their pizzas.
(5)Jared L.
(1)Jeff S.
Cheers!
(4)Sheena S.
(2)Scott S.

(3)Nick L.
(4)Rebeca R.
Rock on!

These bearded folk know them beers. A plethora of tasty beverages brewed in house. Do go here
(5)Frances G.
(4)Jennifer W.
(4)Michael H.
Get Dat Did
(3)Marlon B.
(4)Alfred J.
Friendlier service than Trve. Great space to kick the teeth of Catholics in. The beer selection is good but not as good as Trve. A time to be had slaying beers and enjoying pizza. Food options are a plus whereas Trve does not do food.
(4)Amanda F.
(2)Dale Z.
(2)Mike D.
three not so small parts: beer, food, service/people.
(4)Priscilla The Cat ..
(4)Mike H.
Love the scene and amazing beers and the bartender was odd but very cool. When I come back to Colorado I will return
(5)Susan S.
Killer brews here. Don't be intimidated by the metal theme, the bar is hardly metal at all. Lots of seating inside. Had the Caesar salad and its was just okay, not sure how the other food is there. Worth going to if your in the area.
(4)Susan H.
(2)J R.
Like this place. Pizza is quite good. Good beers. Friendly people. Nice background music Great service. I'll be back
(5)Allie R.
(4)Amanda W.
I absolutely love this place! The beer is amazing as well as the pizza. Affordable and a great time. The staff is always friendly and music is always good If I could start everyday here I would! I'll definitely keep coming back for more as I have since I discovered black sky!
(5)Sasha L.
(5)Randi D.
(4)Christina E.
(4)J K.
(5)Bryan M.
This place is rad! The food and beer are outstanding, incredible quality and a clear appreciation for craft. The staff was very outgoing and makes even a nonmetal group feel right at home, I will absolutely be going back.
(5)Kilgore T.
(2)Erica M.
Great brewery and amazing pizza! The staff is talkative and attentive. They have crazy beer flavors that taste great! Beer to try: demonseed IPA and Demon Phoenix!
(5)Jake V.
(2)Richard R.
(3)Bubba B.
(2)Kimiko K.

Still loving it. Headed there for lunch- the garlic knots are AMAZING. We were all talking about how great they were on the car ride back to the office.

A good local brewery with a good choice of brews which they make, plus pizza! The staff were very attentive as well. It has a very local and neighborhood vibe to, and was worth the trek out from Golden.
