The wife wanted to go to the mountains for her birthday. She wanted to see mountains and pine trees. I wanted to have city options and not have to rent a car. So we decided to head to Denver. I saw this place on 60 Minutes because of the "bud" angle of their marketing. It seemed to fit all our vacation needs. Location: It is a near perfect location for Denver visitors. Surrounded by quiet and yet lots of places to eat and drink. Pete's Kitchen is a block away - open 24 hours and the world's perfect diner food. Vine Street Brew Pub is a quick walk or quick car ride away. The Zoo, the botanic gardens and some museums are close by too. Most everything is within walking distance. And we used Lift for our longer trips. Rooms: We got a very large room on the 3rd floor. The Vivaldi room was super spacious. Yes, there were window AC units and the breaker kept flipping when we had it plugged in and tried to use the hair dryer. The TV was w-a-y across the room so watching from the bed wasn't very easy. There are no phones in the rooms. I did use their wi-fi and it was quick and easy to set up on my phone. The room was comfortable, the towels were great and the blinds kept out the bright sun early in the mornings. Food: Their Happy Hour every afternoon at 4:20 - get it? - had some delish finger foods. Wine, beer and of course guests partaking in the bud you can buy legally in Colorado. I liked that the fridge in the kitchen was communal. They always had beer, wine and cokes and water - drink lots of it in the Mile High City. You could keep your stuff in it too. I bought some fun Colorado beer and we had a couple THC infused drinks that needed to stay cold. No one bothered it. Breakfast was superb! Really. Chicken and waffles, amazing eggs Benedict, mimosas by request, meats, fruits and juice and great coffee. It really was as close to a 5 star restaurant for a B&B that we have stayed. Since it was the wife's birthday I took her breakfast to the room every morning. They were super helpful in making sure I had an extra plate or two to take her a little of everything. Communal areas: They have a lovely patio in the back where I had coffee every morning. There is a hot tub but I never saw anyone getting in it. The dining room was bright and open. They served breakfast there buffet style. The living room area had couches and chairs and a big flat screen. Since they don't allow smoking in the rooms, guests sat there and visited and smoked their dispensary purchases. Massage: Get it! I set up a 90 minute one with the cannabis infused therapy oils. The room is located on site. They bill it to your room. My wife has a neck injury that lingers from a car accident years ago. She said the relief lasted several days and she felt safe and comfortable with the therapist. If the AC had been more consistent I would have done 5 stars. It's a beautiful old place kept clean and the hostesses and chefs are extremely friendly and helpful. It is a bit pricey. Three nights was $1200.

My fiance and I celebrated his 30th birthday at the Bud and Breakfast this past weekend. I have absolutely nothing but amazing things to say! From booking the room, to special requests, the staff at B&B were nothing but professional and great to work with. We stayed in the Vivaldi suite which is all of the way on the 3rd floor. I liked this because it was a bit more secluded compared to the other rooms. Our room was very big with taller ceilings giving us more than enough space to spend our weekend. It had a nice sitting area and a nice large shower! The 420 happy hour came with some amazing appetizers and a refreshing mimosa. The breakfast had a nice array of yogurts, granola, fruit, bagels, smoked salmon and stuffed french toast. Oh, bacon too; can't forget the bacon! We will definitely be coming back and perhaps checking out their sister properties!

Let me start by saying this: I never stayed here as I couldn't even get someone to email me back over an event, in which case over seven emails were sent to two different people over the course of three months. My first email was in May, the last here in August. Tried to book a small, ~30 min elopement here. They offer event hosting, such as dinner parties, baby showers, you name it. I had a total (ourselves included) of four people and wanted to have them host and maybe do a dinner party. I didn't know what they offered exactly, and I wanted to know what we could and couldn't do, so I emailed the person in charge of that. A month/few emails later, still no response. So I contacted 'Brett'. He answered within a day! He wanted to know more about the event, that because of guests they had to be careful. Completely understood! But since they offer parties for up to 65, I figured four people wasn't going to be a problem. Apparently it was, because after three months of emailing to see if they'd forgotten or didn't care... They don't care. I've come to that conclusion. I would have liked at least a response saying they didn't feel like doing my event, but instead I'm still wondering if they have even read the emails! So unprofessional. Maybe lay off the adult activities your hotel offers guests to partake in?

I never figured myself for a B&B type of guest - I wanted to give myself a few more years for that - but Denver CM Laura L recommended Adagio based on an outstanding experience her family had during their stay in the Mile High City. Since I wasn't in search of a posh stay at a pricey boutique hotel, I figured Adagio would be perfect. Besides, the snowy weather just called for an a cozy, at-home type of environment - and I just couldn't resist a pink house covered in flurries. The Adagio Bed & Breakfast is located in the Wyman Historic District, a colorful neighborhood with - what I noticed - divey bars, music venues, cute restos. As a matter of fact, right down the street is a local favorite breakfast burrito spot, Pete's. But Adagio is rumored to have an amazing chef, so try and not skip theirs, as I did due to an early morning flight and SuperShuttles freakish schedule. I stayed in the small "pink room," as Laura and I called it, with the necessary cozy bed, restroom, shower (stand up), plenty of windows, lamps, ceiling fan and television. A fancy flatscreen it wasn't, but the late night cable shows helped me pass the time as I worked through the eve. (Not sure about free Wi-Fi. I used my Verizon card.) Joy, the gregarious host, was kind enough to let Laura and I poke around and check out the other rooms; the property has a lovely dining and breakfast area, along with a garden patio with a hot tub cabana. I was all by my lonesome, but depending on your stay, Joy told me that Adagio B&B can be a full house with upwards of 20 travelers or local romantics celebrating an anniversary, checking out the nearby opera ... and even celebrities. (I didn't ask who.) Check-in is 4-7pm, and since the historic, pink home is so large, simply ringing the front doorbell might not do. Be sure to phone them in case the host can't hear you.

I haven't stayed here myself, but my mother and grandmother have been staying and I've joined them for breakfast the past few days. The Adaigo is a great central location on Race & 14th (half a block from Pete's Kitchen!) It's got that great old manor feel with a player piano, homey decor, cozy bedrooms (with a/c), and the back patio is the perfect setting for their fantastic breakfasts or an evening glass of wine. (There's even a hot tub.) And they serve brunch! I am a breakfast LOVER and their breakfasts are to die for - today it was eggs benedict in a puff pastry with salmon or ham with asparagus? God. Delicious. The three of us took an instant liking to their hostess Cheryl, who recommended some stuff for us to do in the L.A. area when we go next week. Really, we are all charmed.
