We stopped here to eat on our way to Mesa Verde. Great choice! Several options to choose from at a reasonable price. I had the grilled cheese with tomato, bacon and fresh basil with a cup of butternut squash soup. Yummy!! Other people at the table had a BLT and a hamburger with blue cheese. Everyone was very pleased with their meal. Great service and food!

Following my new rule, I can only give 3 stars due to the presence of flies in the indoor dining area. Otherwise I would consider a 4 star based on the taste of the food and service. Sandwich was good, and everyone in my party seemed to like their food. The service was ok as well. The best part was getting ice cream after the meal. It seemed that eating options in this area are somewhat limited, so it was good to find a place that had good food.

Tried the Chili Burger today and it was pretty tasty. I'd give it another go.

Delicious food. Incredibly friendly service. Reuben highly recommended.

This place is fantastic! We stopped in on the advice of a local resident--what a great suggestion. Every dish we had was delicious. I especially liked the Southwest Chicken Wrap. My wife loved the chili. The kids loved the BLT, grilled cheese, quesadilla, and potato salad. The fries were great, and the iced tea is fresh. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is very pleasant. A great find.

I hate to give this place a 3 star review because the food was superb, but our waitress was lousy and had a horrible attitude. When I asked what soups were available, she pointed to a board and moved on to the next person in our group. When another person said we were ready to order, she rolled her eyes as if we were bothering her. We asked for separate checks, she said yes, and then threw one check at us. But again, the food was great.

Really good Philly and green chili. Minus 1 star for service which wasn't bad, but wasn't great.

Incredible open-faced tuna melt! We stopped here while on vacation and ordered the daily special which was an open-faced tuna melt with chile peppers and bacon... It was delicious!

Ordered 1/2 tuna sandwich and Portuguese soup. Also tried clam chowder and Southwest chicken salad. Tuna was a'plenty. Picked at the excess tuna with utensils. Pretty delicious. :) Portuguese soup and clam chowder definitely tasted House made. So flavorful. Chicken in the salad was shredded and warm. Pretty yummy, as well. The staff was attentive and kind. Our waitress liked to make little jokes here and there, I think to mostly amuse herself, which was entertaining.

Staff was very pleasant and interesting. Wife and two children went with me and we ordered a variety of items. Burger was excellent, Navajo taco was OK and the chicken enchiladas were very good. We will definitely eat here again.

I came here for lunch just after 1pm on a Tuesday. It was somewhat busy but there were still some tables available. We sat ourselves at a table and the waitress brought us the menus. She was pretty nice and helped answer questions we had about some of the items on the menu. They had special written on a whiteboard that was near our table. Their menu had a variety of options for everybody. The Philly Green Chili Steak Sandwich ($8.99) sounded good to me, but I wanted a burger so I ordered the Wild Western Burger ($9.49) and chose the fries as a side. My two coworkers ordered the Garden Veggie Burger ($7.99) and the other one ordered the Grilled Chicken Breast Sandwich ($8.49). We waited a while before our food came out. The Wild Western Burger was pretty big because there were a couple of onion rings inside of it. It was one of those burgers that was held up by a knife stuck in the middle. The burger was delicious and I was glad I chose that burger. The fries were good as well. In my opinion, that burger was worth the money with the amount of food. Once Upon A Sandwich was a good place to go to grab lunch with good food. I recommend checking this place out if you're in the area.

With such a high average rating, friends and I decided to stop here as we traveled through Cortez. I ordered the pastrami & swiss panini sandwich...but it came on rye...hmmm! It was a good sandwich though. My soda was flat, so my buddy drank it instead cause he likes it that way. My other friend had the tuna special...her comment was that there was so much tuna, that she couldn't really taste the bread. Service was average, but it was busy as it was mid-day and people were coming and going. Parking is on the street and may be a little tough to find, but being a small town, you wouldn't have to walk far if you had to park around the corner. So for me, this place is just average.

Great food - great location - great service - but most of all fresh, fresh, fresh ingredients! We had the Grand Tacos with beef, a Greek Salad with grilled chicken, the bacon cheeseburger, loaded potato and BLT. The stand outs today were the Tacos and Bacon Cheeseburger - something in the spread or the ingredients gave it a flavor that just popped. Everyone left extremely satisfied. Most of us struggled to finish our meal. Next time we're in Cortez - we're eating here! Only critique here would be that if you are selling yourself as a sandwich shop - it might pay to have a gluten free bread. However that didn't stop us from getting meals that suit.

Okay, so we are hungry, now the quest to figure out where we are eating. I wasn't in the mood for spicy and my dear husband agree to the sandwich place. We thought they were closed because from outside it looked vacant. Someone walked out-we walked in and realized everyone was in back. It is a seat yourself establishment. I had a hamburger which was actually okay. Honey had Navajo taco. He did not like his food at all but ate it because he was hungry. We had to make a special stop for gum afterwards. We wont be back if were ever in Cortez.

Great option to the chain restaurants. Turkey Gouda wrap and fries were great! Crispy chicken sandwich was a little rubbery.

Located on the main road through town, this sandwich shop boasts plenty of vegetarian options. I had a panini that was like nothing I've ever tasted (in a good way) due to the unique combination of ingredients the waiter suggested. The waiter even had sweet potato fries thrown in with the regular fries, giving the plate a dash of color. And hooray! for lemonade not out of a machine! The service was friendly (I showed up a few minutes before they closed, and was invited in and asked to sit where I liked). I didn't try any of their ice cream, but the brownies were rich and chewy and a perfect finish to a hearty, perfectly portioned lunch.

Based on food - 5 stars Based on service/speediness - 4 stars Went here during a lunch and had to wait for a bit, the staff was quite busy, but it was hard to feel like we were a priority to them. That said, once we were seated, the service was good. The food was great. I had a 1/2 Cranberry-Walnut Chicken Salad Sandwich with a cup of the Creamy Potato - Green Chili Soup. The sandwich was tasty. The soup was an pleasant accident. I thought the menu said it was just potato soup, but it was a pleasant combination. I definitely would return here, as long as I was not in a hurry.

Stopped in for a couple if sandwiches to go as we passed through Cortez. Very tasty. We got our food fast but service was a little indifferent, not very friendly.

Decent sandwich....Rubeun with small bag chips. Kid loved fruit smoothie. Decent value, nice staff and clean bathrooms.

Outstanding lunch top. Everyone loved what they ordered today and I recommend the Crispy Chicken Sandwich.

If you are ever in this neck of the woods and need some good grub, man this is the place. Every time I am in town, I try to come. This is small town with a cosmopolitan flare. I have had some of the freshest, best sandwiches there. I love the friendly feel and it's totally casual attitude.

A little hole in the wall on Main Street, but a jewel for lunch. DO NOT leave without trying a bowl of RED, you won't be disappointed. It gets rushed and you may have to wait for a table, but it is worth the wait for good sandwiches, quiche to die for, and the best iced tea west of the Mississippi!

We were heading for Durango from Four Corners on the day after Christmas and stopped here for lunch and the place far exceeded our expectations. We had vegetarian sandwiches, which were absolutely delicious. The Fries, Salad, Chips and Salsa were all good too. You could feel the freshness and the quality in each of the items. The owners and the staff were freindly and eager to help with any questions about the food or otherwise. Overall we felt lucky to have come across this place!! It really enhanced our visiting experince of the area.

A favorite for those of us who work downtown. Great sandwiches and wraps, and the southwest chicken salad could be traded for currency around here. Try the sweet potato fries, too. Yes, it gets busy, especially at lunch time, but before noon and after 1:00 it slows down. For dessert, there's a wide selection of ice cream, shakes and even malts.

If you want excellent sandwiches in Cortez, this is the place. They have a huge selection of choices including burgers, and Mexican-style dishes. Also, ice cream. A local favorite.
