I have to call it as I see it, and this is how I see it. I made a pilgrimage to Cabin Creek Smokehouse for lunch today with my husband. We tried a sampler of five meats with four sides, and got an additional side. It was the worst barbecue restaurant, and one of the worst restaurants in general, I have ever been to. I apologized to my husband on the way home for taking him there. If you want details, here is what we thought of what we had: Texas beef brisket - not particularly good. Southern-style pulled pork - washed out tasting. Hot Polish sausage - maybe okay at best. Herb rubbed smoked chicken - not bad, but not smoky and not particularly good. Memphis-style "dry" St. Louis cut pork spareribs - just barely okay. Sweet molasses baked beans - dry and mushy. Redskin mashers - really bad. Cowboy chili beans - not particularly good. Country potato salad - best side dish, but still not particularly good/no better than grocery store potato salad out of a tub. Smoky grilled veggies - not at all smoky or grilled/not worth eating.

First thing about this place is that the seating is *very* limited; there are a few small tables inside and three two-person tables outside. You will definitely want to get your meal to go. I came here last weekend with some family and pulled together some tables outside; it was windy and there was a lot of road noise. I had beef brisket meal with beans and mac-and-cheese, all of which were solid. The brisket was seasoned (went well with the Texas-style Blackjack sauce) and the sides were good; I didn't leave a crumb on my plate. The cost of my meal was about $15, excluding drink, which I think is a bit high for take-out, especially with these portion sizes, however I suspect the value is better if you order a quantity of food by the pound. All told, I don't think this will become one of my favorite places, but I can definitely see myself coming here again.

Exceptional BBQ, tops in the Metro area. Meats are beautifully prepared, tangy and smoky! Sides are wonderful, sauces are terrific. Very little seating inside, patio seating available in nice weather. Make the drive to the mountains & Cabin Creek - you will LOVE this food!

If there's anything I miss about Conifer, it's Cabin Creek Smokehouse. The food here is GREAT. I think the only thing that could be improved upon is the side dishes. Really would love to see some sweet potato fries on the menu. Ask what just came off the smoker, and you'll be in heaven... I promise.

My son and I enjoyed the brisket and I loved the mac and cheese! The sauce and polish sausage was great as well. We will be back again when we are in the area.

Stopped in Saturday night on our way home from a long day in Denver. We had high hopes for this place, but unfortunately we were let down. Now given we walked in 20 minutes before closing, so that much is our fault. We offered to order what they already had available so they didn't have to make any extra messes for us. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, sausage, potato salad, mac n cheese, corn bread, and spicy beans. The brisket was super dry with no flavor. The pulled pork tasted exactly like dry, unseasoned chicken. Sausage was just weird. Potato salad tasted like it came from a super market deli. The mac n cheese had a odd smokey aftertaste. Corn bread was bland and soggy, but my husband liked the baked beans. To top it off they only had gross bbq sauce options like mustard-vinegar. They didn't have just a normal bbq sauce. The service was nice and friendly, but one of the employees, a younger female was getting off work and as she was about to walk out the younger boy that was helping us started yelling at her about lord knows what. There was loud banter back and forth for about 5 minutes. I believe they were just joking with each other, but it did make things a little chaotic. Probably won't hurry back to this one. So bummed. We love BBQ.

We had the meat sampler platter for two here: chicken wing (you get a choice of dark or white meat), 1/4lb each of brisket, sausages, and pulled pork, 4 ribs two hamburger buns, and choice of 4 sides (mac and cheese, slaw, potato salad and mashed potatoes. The chicken was juicy. Sausages were spicy. The rest of the meats were okay. Sides were okay.

Tried to grab a burrito or breakfast sandwich in Denver before heading to conifer, but the spot we hoped to try was overrun by yuppies. Instead we decided to grab a bite closer to our destination. Stumbled upon this awesome little BBQ place that served delicious breakfast burritos. Not only was the food awesome, but when the owner saw us eating ur takeout at one of the small tables out front, he took it upon himself to bring us cups of water. So glad we discovered this gem in lieu of more yuppie hell in Denver. Will definitely stop by again.

Lived locally for more than 2 years. Never been due to mixed reviews by other conifer and Pine residents. Got the "family feast for 4". A very skimpy amount of dried meat and sides: it was horrible: we ended up subsidizing a frozen pizza just to feed 3. Will never be back and would tell all to go to Zoka's, Brooke's , Caretta Vieja, 285 pizza, Crossroads, or anywhere but here. Sooooo disappointed.

I've had a few really good meals here. Now that they have breakfast burritos, I'll be back more often!

Stopped here on the way into the mountains after it was suggested by a buddy. The BBQ was great, and definitely one of the better BBQ joints I have found in Colorado. I had the pulled pork, which was moist, not chewy and had some good smoky flavor too it. Lots of great sauces to try as well. I had the macaroni side, and I didn't care for that, I think it was a bit on the older/colder side and the cheese was sort of solidifying. Could have just been a one time thing. Food was quick, tasty and came out to be the same price as eating at a Wendy'/Subway/whatever else on the road trip would have been.

This was my 3rd choice on a Tuesday coming back from Denver, going to Telluride. I got the two meat plate and two sides. The pork and the beef were so dry I had to drown it in sauce. The sauces were okay. Needless to say the meat did not sit well. I vomited twice later that night and I still felt terrible the next day. Not sure what bbq they gave people with good reviews but I certainly did not get it. I will not be going back.

I don't understand how cubed and dried beef can ever be okay? Nice employees. Terrible food. Take a slab of meat and cut it to order like a real BBQ place would do.

Worked with Cabin Creek at many events where they had catered the food. Today was the first time I actually had a chance to try it. I bought lunch and it was amazing! Everything about it was just fab. Highly recommend!

Had these guys cater food for a party (we picked up the food) and I must say that the price was VERY good and the party guests raved about how good the Polish Sausage, Pulled Pork and Brisket were. Food was hot and ready when we requested it - we will definitely use these guys for parties again!

I've only had the pulled pork sandwich & red mashers, but I keep thinking about them. I almost drove up yesterday just to have another go. They were out of ribs when I was there, so I certainly have a reason to go back. The sooner the better!

Tasty and moist pulled pork with several different BBQ sauce options. Just got the 1/3 pound sandwich, it was something like $7.50 but the quality of the bbq made us feel it was an acceptable price/quality ratio. We were on the road looking for a quick snack and this fit the bill. Very very basic facility, paper plates, and 'no public bathrooms' -- not sure if that meant we couldn't use it as customers but there was a nice full service gas station next door so we washed our hands there.

Needed a place to grab lunch while in the area last week and this place was great. It's not very large, so limited seating, but who cares. I had an awesome brisket sandwich with mushrooms, onions and chunks of yummy blue cheese. For $8 it rocked. They also have about 6 BBQ sauces you serve yourself to concoct the taste you want. Check this place next time your heading west.

OK.. My first impression of the place came when I pulled in to the three space parking lot and the company vehicle was over the line taking up a full space and a portion of the one next to it. If you only have three spaces, not only should you park your company vehicle elsewhere, but you should have the decency not to be on of those people who uses more than one parking spot. Next, I checked out the menu... a Po Boy sounded good. The "PEPPER'D BLEU BRISKET PO' BOY" sounded tasty. As a "sandwich", I'll give it 3 stars. As a "Po Boy" *****ZERO STARS******* What makes a Po Boy a Po Boy? There is one absolute requirement, not debatable... the kind of bread. ******MUST****, under any and all circumstances, be a crusty bread with a fluffy center. A sub roll that you can get at the Safeway down the street is NOT acceptable bread for a Po Boy. What made the sandwich good was tasty brisket and some excellent BBQ sauces available at the counter. What made it mediocre was the cold mushroom/pepper/onion concoction that was lobbed on top of the warm brisket. I understand the bleu cheese being cold, but the veggies should be warm. Finally, having grown up in PA on Philly cheese steaks, I take offense any time someone haphazardly slaps the work "Philly" on any sandwich that has meat and cheese. The "Philly Cheese Po Boy" is not a Po Boy, nor is there anything "Philly" about it. While I think the bread is acceptable for what you call a "Philly", the meat, cheese and BBQ sauce are not. A Philly needs to have thinly shaved meat, preferably ribeye. Brisket (as good as it may be) is not a Philly steak meat. Cheese.... A sandwich with cheddar cheese is NOT a Philly. Once again, the geniuses who wrote the menu, have exclaimed their extreme ignorance of culinary vocabulary. A Philly is only a Philly if it has white american, Cheese Whiz or the less traditional provolone. Lastly, BBQ sauce, even on an authentic Philly in Center City Philadelphia makes it no longer a Philly. Call it anything you want, as long as you don't grab words out of your butt that correlate to absolute requirements unless you are going to adhere to those requirements. If you jump a car off a bridge, that does not make it an airplane. I won't be back.

Great food at a reasonable price - we go there for takeout on a regular basis, and feed our family of 4 adults and 2 children for around $50.00. It is a great alternative for supper when we have been out all day, or so busy that we didn't have time to cook. We definitely feel that we get more value for the buck here than almost anywhere else. For flavor, nutritional value, we could not do better if we cooked it ourselves. We are very good and experienced cooks, so when we find a restaurant that meets our standards, that is extremely rare and appreciated. I have Celiac Disease, and the staff have always been very accommodating and careful not to contaminate the food with wheat or any other grain. My family likes the Olde Time sauce, and that has wheat due to soy sauce, but they always pack it separately so that no one gets it unless they actually want it. And I never feel deprived because the meat is so juicy and tasty that it stands on its own with out any sauce at all! The good news is that almost everything else on the menu is gluten free and home made and it has never made me sick This is mostly a takeout and off site catering place. There is cramped bar seating inside, and a few outdoor tables, so don't go if you are wanting a sit down meal in winter! We always phone in our order and take it home or to one of the many local picnic areas. But their outdoor seating is also great in the summer. I agree with the other reviewer who said that it would be great if they ever expand to include indoor seating, but since most of their business is off site catering, I guess they don't really feel they need to. The only complaint I have is that I wish they were open later in the evenings since we tend to eat late at our house. I think they close at 7 pm on weeknights. However, we don't mind scrambling to get there before closing.

Good smokey flavor, fall off the bone ribs, and an awesome sauce selection. These guys participate in a lot of cookoffs and win awards. Try a sloppy johnny, but share it with a friend - it's massive. Get used to the mountain service folks. It's not as efficient as what you'll find in the city. Just relax and strike up a conversation with someone. Enjoy yourself. You will enjoy the food.

Well as some of you know I'm looking to buy massive quantities of Q for the kid's grad party. We thought we'd take a ride up to Cabin Creek in Aspen Park because although I had eaten their ribs at last year's Q contest in Dillon and loved them, I hadn't tried their over the counter food. As we pulled up at the joint, I had a feeling. There was only one other car there on a Sunday afternoon off of 285. Bad omen. 285 has tons of traffic on the weekends because it's such a nice ride or drive. We ordered the Backwoods Special Platter and the 4 Rib Platter. The Backwoods is 1/4 pound of Brisket, 1/4 pound of pulled pork and a 1/4 of an herb rubbed smoked chicken w/ 2 sides (we got the smoked macaroni and cheese and redskin mashed taters. The 4 Rib Platter we got with cowboy chili beans and Big River Slaw. I know why I liked their ribs, a nice not over the top rub, they are cooked perfectly with a good smoke to them but we were there for beef or pork and chicken for the party. I think they must use a very precise scale to meter out their 1/4 pound servings of meats or use the thumb on the scale method because the portions were smallish including the sides. If you gave a cowboy them beans, he'd shoot you. I think these were the same beans I got at Lucille's, a couple of months ago, taken from the very plate I ate from then.Naw, naw. The garlic mashed were okay but under gar-licked and the macaroni and cheese was good but not special. I forgot the slaw. Forget the slaw. Onto the protein. The brisket is tasty but their prep for serving left it too small to enjoy (canned corned beef hash size pieces) the pulled pork was also very good and it was actually pulled so go there if you go there. The chicken was cooked well (except it was refrigerator cold in the middle so we had to have it zapped) but didn't have much smoke or added flavor. I'd skip the peeps. We liked the Memphis style sauce the best. They have a whiskey, a hot, and a mustard too that were okay. One small sidenote. As Lori noted there aren't many seats and if you sit at one of the outdoor furniture type of expanded metal (you know the diamond shaped holes) tables, beware "The Drip". It doesn't land on the table and Q sauce stains. Q's supposed to be messy, right? The 4 stars are a little high, but I do like their ribs and the brisket and pulled pork are pretty good too.

This place is awful. I ordered a combo plate, which is something I usually do at BBQ places to make sure at least one item is not over cooked or dried out. All three items were somewhere between shoe leather and beef jerky, and not in a good way. Also, there were so many flies in the restaurant, we had to eat outside to avoid being covered in them. I could only wonder what was lying in the restaurant, covered in maggots, to create that many flies. Avoid this place unles you want something with which to resole your hiking boots.
