One of my favorite places. Just go with alot of time. Really friendly staff and there sushi comes out tasty and amazing looking
(5)Paul L.
Waited 45 minutes for food and waiter was very confused, forgot items on our order, sushi was not the best, pretty fishy. Not going back, going to juns or sushi ring
(1)Kelly S.
The food is pretty okay. The ambiance is great. They have a bar to sit at (you can watch the chefs as they cook) , hibachi grills, tables, and you can also sit on pillows on the floor! It's always busy on nights and weekends because everyone loves this place so much. The owner is really nice and always strikes up conversations. He often gives us aesthetic desserts for free as well as side dishes. The salad and soup appetizers are great. They also carry traditional Japanese soda, Ramune. Good stuff! The staff is always changing I don't know if that's a concern. It takes a while for food to come but it's worth the wait. The chefs show their artistic side when plating. The food is always on fleek ;) and yummy looking. If you're looking for a sophisticated and authentic Japanese restaurant, Kura is a must! :)

10 minutes into the meal my wife and I sat here with empty drink glasses. It's not remotely busy. Just bad service today.

Me and the fam took a trip down to the Springs to do Cave of the Winds, and other like activities, and my son wanted some hibachi for dinner. So, we found two choices, and went with this one. We were happy we did! Excellent food quality, our cook at the tepenyaki was very friendly and made it fun for our son, who just turned seven. We'll be back the next time we're in town. Thanks!

I really hate to give places 1 star, but this place deserves it. This was the WORST teppanyaki/hibachi dinner I've ever had. Our waiter (blue haired guy) was the only pleasant part of our experience. Our chef was talking about the chemicals in meat, scallops and shrimp the entire time he was cooking. ARE YOU SERIOUS!!!! Instead of the traditional onion broth soup, this place serves miso soup? UMM REALLY? They had three sauces (which all sucked) and then my chicken was drenched in teriyaki sauce. WHY GIVE ME THREE SAUCES AND DRENCH MY MAIN COURSE IN CHEAP TERIYAKI SAUCE?!?! The chicken wasn't just white meat. They did a half and half mix of dark and white. DISGUSTING!! I mean come on, are we at a Chinese takeout? My bill before tip was around $25.00. TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS for the WORST, GARBAGE food I've ever had. The ambience was ok, staff was pleasant other than are weirdo cook. WAYYY OVER PRICED. never again will I come here. I hope this place shuts down. It's an embarrassment to traditional teppanyaki. I spit out about five pieces of chicken because it had bone and grissel in it. Blahhhh. I made myself vomit as soon as I left. I'm just glad I could hold it in until I received my check, otherwise my vomit would have been sizzling on the flat top grill in front of the whole table.

Last night was embarrassing. My wife and I suggested Kura for my sister-in-law's birthday. We made 5:30 reservations for the teppanyaki, we sat at the grill station for over half an hour without being greeted by a server. Finally my wife went and found someone to order an appetizer and drinks before the happy hour expired. The hibachi chef (name ?) finally showed up. He was nice enough but seemed to have this nervous talking habit, so he basically talked our whole meal. So between the chef, and the very loud vent hood we couldn't have a conversation over dinner. The chef was also rather frustrated because the server was not coming by to refill our drinks or even bring our rice. The teppanyaki experience was rather boring. Sure he made a big fire, and an onion volcano but there were no other knife tricks or anything. We expected a better experience from Kura. We've eaten at Kura many a time. It just seems that the teppanyaki is secondary to their sushi service. The sushi is great, maybe they should have stuck to that.

I've been here 4 times now. It doesn't serve the greatest sushi in the world, but for landlocked Colorado Springs, they are consistent and IMO do a good job. We made reservations for a Monday evening at 6:30PM, and I'm glad we did because they were extremely busy. Though service missed us a couple times as we tried to indicate we needed waters or were ready for our orders, they were at least friendly when they finally made it to our table. I love their miso soup! When our rolls arrived, they were, as usual, pretty big and elaborate. We had ordered 3 of them. With the 1 sashimi order, it was too much for the two of us and we ended up taking home some leftovers. And this was after the two of us had finished hiking two 14ers earlier that day! If it's a larger order, they'll present the rolls/sushi on a huge bamboo boat - make a good impression on kids. Kura really doesn't hold back on anything: even the amount of pickled ginger and wasabi they dish out are more than enough. The tempura batter they use is very crunchy yet light and not heavy at all, which is to say nearly perfect. They offer mochi ice cream for dessert. I'll be back!
(4)Joe C.
Good food, good prices. Probably a little too much of that dynamite sauce in there food but overall good
(3)Donna E.
Still as good as it was 6 months ago. Busy Saturday night but sat at the sushi bar. Waited on quickly with menus, water, wine and Miso soup. Little wait for the sushi but 4 guys hustling to make sushi at it's best is worth the wait. It's busy for a reason, it's delicious!
(5)Jennifer M.
The food and service used be excellent, but twice in a row now, horrible service, and they were not even busy. The food quantity was sub par compared to other sushi places around town, and we were ignored even before we ordered our drinks. I would have loved to have eaten my salad entree when it came out, but I had no silverware. My husband's sushi came out after I had eaten most of my salad, then our miso soup arrived. We continually felt ignored, a waste of time and money, and will not be back.
(1)Berlyn W.
I'm always impressed with the sushi ! They have fresh everything. Drinks are tasty . Service is always friendly & not overly attentive . I always come here at least once a week.
(4)Charlotte C.
Server was extremely nice, but the long wait for greeting and my food cast a dark shadow over everything. Sushi was not up to my expectations. Hot Tea tasted like dishwater. Would not return.
(1)Den D.
I thought the service and sushi wasn't all that great. Needless to say my first visit would also be the last. I wont be coming back
(1)Candice D.
Great service, great food. Slower than expected to see food at our table. Disappointed they served us adults before serving our 2 1/2 year old. Overall a 4, the love of my life enjoyed it also. It was much better sushi than the last place we visited.
(4)Christina S.
Here Fishy fishy fishy.... Just kidding! ;) Kura is a pretty good catch. The sushi here was actually very fresh tasting and not very fishy at all. I am not a huge fan of fish and so sushi joints are usually a big let down for me, leaving me hungry and annoyed that my fish loving husband had a good meal and I didn't. For lunch, we were seated immediately, ordered drinks right away, had the menu and specials explained to us after ordering drinks, and given the perfect amount of time to decide on our order before the server returned. After enjoying our miso soups and house salad, we tried the CV roll, the Jalapeño roll thing, the chicken roll, and an unagi roll. I liked all of them. I was especially surprised by the CV roll. I expected it to be very fishy tasting and really it was one of the best. In fact I expected the chicken roll to be the one I enjoyed the most given that it was chicken instead of fish... but although I enjoyed it, I liked that one the least! I don't think it was quite a 5 star experience for a couple reasons. One of which is we ordered edamame and it never came, and we were never offered refills on our drinks but I'm willing to go back again to see if it gets any better, especially since I'm sure my hubby will be asking for sushi again and this will be the only sushi place in the Springs that I really really enjoyed so far.
(4)Chad J.
First time visit for me. Went for lunch on a Saturday. We tried two of the special rolls, one with sushi and cooked. They were very delicious and large. My 5 year old son liked the crunchy shrimp and crab roll so much he ate nearly the whole thing and is calling this his new favorite food. Bonus: The special rolls are buy one get one 1/2 price during lunch.
(4)Renee A.
Pricey, but worth it! Very nice Japanese menu. I've lived in Japan and was impressed with the selections.
(5)Heather B.
We've been coming to this place for years, but our run may be at an end. The service has never been good, but the sushi made up for it. Hard to believe, but the service has gotten WORSE. Asked for water several times, it never came. Sushi order was wrong (and we were at the bar). The whole time we were there someone was cleaning the empty tables with bleach, and there were lots of full tables. I guess they were in a hurry to get out at the end of the night so they decided to clean the restaurant around the customers. Evidently they were also having trouble with their dishwasher, because we had to listen to them arguing about him (again, we were sitting at the sushi bar). Had similar service a couple weeks ago. Over $100 for three rolls, two handrolls and salmon sashimi . . . It just isn't worth putting up with the lousy service.
(1)Planets K.
I'm not sure how this place has so many glowing reviews. We drove a half hour to try their sushi. The kani salad was expensive and barely had kani at all, the rolls weren't anything to remember, and the soba noodles were only average. Maybe it was a bad night? Won't be back either way. Meh.
(1)Erin M.
I've been to a few different sushi spots here in the springs and i keep returning! I have tried almost every roll and have never been disappointed. Of course i have my favorites. . But who doesn't! Always friendly staff, great quality all around! Kura is my favorite!
(5)Richard H.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Unlike some of the smaller sushi places we've tried, where the food might be good but the atmosphere is seriously lacking... Kura feels like a more expensive restaurant than it is (it's not cheap but the prices are reasonable). Staff has always been friendly. We usually sit in the main dining room and have sushi, but we've also tried the hibachi service, which was excellent. It's become our favorite sushi restaurant in the Springs.
(4)Justin S.
Good food horrible service that has gone down the drain since the gentlemen that dressed up super well left? Came here for the last time. How can you have 6-7 waitresses for a restaurant so small and take 15 min to take a drink order, 15 more minutes to bring miso soup and another 30 for a small sushi order. Taking service elsewhere from now on. Got to restaurant at 7:30 got water at 7:45 and food at 8:12.
(1)Richard M.
Great food, issue: In my pass visits i notice a cadallic always in customer parking, not a big issue, but when busy it is! Customer comes first...
(1)R R.
*this review was from 2+ months ago, I guess it saved into my drafts, so I'm posting now. I'm not sure how to even explain what we experienced...food was good (not great), but the waitstaff circus was the highlight of the night. Very busy on a Saturday night at 5:45pm...way under staffed. Sat for hibachi and it was downhill from there. Our server was clearly flustered, but chose to take it out on her tables with snarky remarks and ignoring requests. When the hibachi cook arrived, all our food was out of order, so he had to rewrite the seating chart and then yelled at the waitress in front of us. Was impossible to get a drink from the waitress, we'd try to flag her down, call out...she just ignored our overly dramatic calls. The cook spent the meal talking about how awful the restaurant was and how he was opening a new joint not far away. Lots more outrageous events, we joked about being on a hidden camera show, very awkward and poor service. No 2nd chances for this place, do not recommend.
(1)Brandi T.
Food was great, decor was better than most sushi places in Colorado Springs, but service was extremely slow. We went for a business lunch at 11:30 with 4 people (nobody ordered sushi) and it took an hour and a half to eat and get the check. Good food, but if you need to get out in a hour, don't expect speedy service.
(3)Norma D.
Really really good sushi. Surprisingly fresh, they don't load on the rice. 4 stars cause the service was kinda slow.
(4)Melissa C.
I've been here several times. Every visit has been pleasant. I've tried a few other sushi restaurants in Colorado Springs & Kura is my favorite. I've been to some pretty great places in California & Florida, and Kura is right up there with them! I'll keep coming back here!! Thanks, Kura!!
(4)Angela W.
Pretty awesome place! Everyone who worked here was super friendly. The sushi was nice and cold very delish!!
(4)Scott B.
I have been to this restaurant at least 8 times. I'm here to say I will never go back. After a hibachi dinner I had left my brand new iPhone 6 on the table. Got to the car and realized I had left my phone in the restaurant. I went back in and our table had been bussed, mind you not more than three or four minutes had passed, and everyone in the store said here was no cell phone left at the table. I immediately got on my friends phone and did the find my iPhone app. It showed my phone was in the restaurant everybody still denied it was there so I called the police and and after an hour and a half somehow miraculously my phone was found outside behind the restaurant over a bank in some rocks. Not a single person in that restaurant did the right thing by speaking up about who the thief was. Watch your personal items if you go there. The food is good and the price is fair, but I can't patronize an establishment where the staff looks the other way.

Sushi in Colorado Springs isn't at the same level as Sushi in Denver but that doesn't mean there are no good options. There are actually several. Jun's comes to mind here for sure. However, for my wife and I, Kura is the top choice in town. The atmosphere is pleasant and comfortable. So many of these places are dives! The staff is also friendly and helpful with the menu. During lunch, they have some great specials and Bento Boxes which allow you to mix and match sashimi, rolls, tempura and soup at a great value. It's almost too much food as well but I'm not complaining. You can get in and out quickly too which makes it good for workday lunches. Dinner is a more upscale experience with the Hibachi tables fired up and intimate lighting. It's great for a group of friends and also a favorite date night destination for me and my wife. The sashimi is very good and portions are not huge, but appropriate. We tend to hover in around the tuna and salmon varieties. The house special rolls are the real highlights, however. The Las Vegas and Bronco Rolls are our go-to items but others are very good as well. We haven't sampled any of the combination items or the house specials. We pretty much stick to the sushi every time. However, we did do the hibachi table one night. While the food was enjoyable, the presentation and entertainment from our chef was not. He was downright boring! Oh well, we still had a good time!!
(4)Brandon G.
Didn't get to eat here because the service sucks. My girlfriend and I waited for over 5 mins waiting for someone to even acknowledge us. Not even a "just one moment". So I decide to take my business to the more professional places. Service is everything. I gladly drove 10 miles out of my way to the south to get great service and Sushi.
(1)Christopher A.
I tend to be wary of strip mall restaraunts, however I took the advice of some long time locals and tried Kura - wow, amazing sushi in Colorado Springs, who knew? The greeter is the only Japanese I think, she is watm, friendly and inviting, the waitress and cooks are Korean I believe but they definitely know what they are doing and are open to off the menu ideas. The calamari is excellent, all the various rolls we ordered (as well as those recommended to try) were very very good, and the Plum and Nigori sake are the best I hve had outside of Japan. For mid range sushi, this is the best in CO, there are higher end/more expensive in Denver but probably paying more for environment and social bragging rights. Kura takes it in CoS.
(5)Elaine M.
WE WILL NEVER BE BACK AND WE DIDN'T EVEN EAT!!! Our waitress at Kura was TERRIBLE! We will NOT be going back! This was the worst experience I have had in a sushi restaurant ever! First, we didn't get a sushi menu--so we asked for one. We got a menu and a pen. Had about 5 minutes, she came back by our table and asked us if we were ready, we said no, still deciding--she then took our pen and walked off...a little hard to mark a sushi menu without the pen. Then she comes back again and asks if we are ready. I said, no, you took our pen. Then she points to our sushi menu where we have already marked and says, I already gave you a pen. So, I tell her I know, but then you took the pen last time you came by to ask us if we were ready. She then drops a pen on the table and walks off. (We are both pretty much done at this point, but were really in the mood for sushi and wanted to try a localish area.) We finish our order and then she comes back by--we give her our order and then tell her I have a tuna allergy--so I need my husband's tuna on a separate plate and I need the chefs to wipe down the cutting surface and change gloves. (This is always my request and have NEVER had an issue!) She informs me it's really busy and they chefs are dealing with a lot of different kinds of fish right now and she is not sure what they could do. I tell her, I really can't help an allergy. She says she will go talk to the chefs and see what they can do....Ummmm....NO! This is an allergy lady! So, we got up and left! I was beyond mad! We went to Kohnami Sushi--MUCH BETTER!!!
(1)Hannah J.
Such a great restaurant. The quality of the sushi is amazing. I order a dinner for two sashimi and it came out on a boat. Neatly presented and the rolls are amazing. My favorite is the volcan. Also, the customer service is too notch! Definitely coming back
(5)Robin P.
I had been craving Hibachi for so long. I am skeptical about certain places, and wanted to make sure I wasn't going to be disappointed. And I wasn't. Frankie, our chef, was fabulous! He was entertaining, conversational, professional and so much fun. We really enjoyed our experience and the food was fantastic. There are so many sauces to try! The bourbon and garlic were for sure my favorite. We will absolutely be back!
(5)Marika F.
Great sushi is hard to find in Colorado Springs, but Kura delivers like some of the big gun sushi restaurants in Denver. We did ribeye on hibachi over happy hour. The hibachi master served up tasty fried rice, veggies, lo mein noodles and shrimp with the ribeye. Several dipping sauces were included and there was plenty of entertainment value alongside some really great steak. The calamari was sliced in long strips and seemed to be coated in tempura batter and panko which gave a great crunchiness. One of the best calamari appetizers in town. We ordered sushi with our hibachi dishes and while everyone recommended the Bronco roll we went with two other rolls which were both tasty. I hope to go back soon for some non-fried, uncooked rolls (and the Bronco roll). I hadn't been to Kura since they expanded and added hibachi tables and now I have to say this place will be part of my regularly sushi rotation, worth the drive from the West side of town to the far north part of Colorado Springs.
(4)Nicole K.
The sushi was really great here...which the service promptly ruined. The wait staff seemed to be a disorganized mess. We opted to sit at the sushi bar after being told about 3 times it would be just a few minutes for a table. The sushi chef was extremely nice and made some tasty rolls. Everything was very fresh. But we never got miso soup, which is pretty standard at any sushi restaurant in the states. My husband had to flag down someone to refill our drinks, though she was going to ignore mine if he hadn't said anything. They just seemed extremely disorganized. I don't think a manager was really directing the flow in there, they were just running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The chef seemed surprised by how little we ate, but the service was so bad we didn't want to wait for more food. I'd return, but probably at lunch or on a weeknight for dinner. Hopefully Kura will be able to redeem itself.
(2)Micky A.
We were in the Springs and looking for some Japanese food for dinner. Lo and behold Yelp showed us Kura was nearby, so we called, got on the wait list and drove there. Friendly staff who were flying all over making sure everyone was taken care of. Even so, we were greeted warmly and shown to our seats quickly. We ate on the Hibachi side, but they also have regular tables along with a sushi bar. We didn't try the sushi, but what we saw looked good and we'll be sure to come here many times in the future to try that and the other items on the menu! We've been to many Hibachi places but the chef was not only personable, but also knows how to cook! The food was amazing! Tasty, almost sweet noodles, fried rice, veggies, shrimp, scallops and steak cooked to perfection! We asked for some spice and they mixed some sriracha sauce in with some sweet sauce, maybe teriaki sauce. Whatever it was it worked perfectly and was the best we have had. From the hot saki, to miso soup, to the dinner, everything was perfect. Service was great overall, just had to wait a few minutes for drink refills, but this was no issue as the waiter was working very hard with a new table that had just been seated. The place is not fancy, but it is clean and nice. 5 Yelp stars and highly recommend!
(5)Kim L.
Just moved to town and we have Been here twice in one week. The miso soup is awesome and you get it when ordering sushi only! The staff is awesome and friendly and the ambiance is awesome. I can't wait to come back and try more sushi!! Yum yum 5 stars! Super fresh!
(5)M P.
I went back when it wasn't busy. We went on a weekday after lunch during a snowstorm. Oddly, the service was still slow-- but good. The food was delicious.
(4)Glen L.
This place is most likely near the top of the list for Sushi at Colorado Springs. Probably the best Korean run Sushi restaurant I've ever been to. The first good sign is the fish delivery truck from Denver parked outside. Fish tasted pretty fresh considering that Colorado Springs is nowhere near the ocean or a major airport.
(4)Ashley M.
On Saturday my husband and I went out for our anniversary lunch (with our 3 year old) this was our first time into Kura. You walk in and it smells amazing! there was 5 tables and the restaurant had been open a whole 15 min. (That alone is a great sign!) We were greeted right away by the owner. Very friendly and happy. The décor is absolutely stunning. This is a very nice restaurant inside and out. It has beautiful tables, chairs, even has a good amount of seating for the sushi bar, and has a hibachi grill! The décor rating is 5 stars! the owner gave us a few minutes to look over the menu and said if we had any questions to let him know. While we were looking over the menu he handed my son A 3 YEAR OLD!! his personal tablet with a kid movie!!! no one has ever done that, not for a new customer. This made my husband and I smile so big. He did this so it gave us a chance to talk and eat. THIS WAS SOOOOO NICE!!!!!!! Since I am pregnant I can only have a few rolls, The owner was very accommodating! I tried the CA roll deepfried and added cream cheese along with a CU roll added cream cheese and deepfried! YUMMY!!!!! they also were very generous with the homemade unagi sauce, extra ginger and a good amount of wasabi, I had accidently ordered a tempura veggie roll, and meant to get the tempura appetizer. This was forsure my fault and the owner fixed it right away with no additional charge. He wasn't upset or anything, he just wanted to make sure we enjoyed our food. after we ate I asked for strawberry mochi. (ice cream dessert) it was so fresh tasting and amazing!! The owner said it was on the house since it was our anniversary. I am honestly so very impressed with everything. even there website is very nice. Go check this place out you wont be disappointed. Cant wait to go back. The owner even said the fish comes in on ice, NOT FROZEN! that's why it smells so good and fresh. I will be back time and time again for their sushi. (IM VERY PICKY ON SUSHI) I use to work for a sushi restaurant in California so I know a great sushi place when I see one. No other sushi place in the springs compares, not even in Denver. This place rocks!!!!! and the price is right, none of the rolls were super expensive.
(5)Theresa B.
Best sushi in the Springs! They've recently expanded to add hibachi/teppen yaki grills. I have not yet tried their teppen yaki. There's a lot going on in this little place! Come early for dinner to beat the dinnertime rush, especially on fridays and weekends. service is consistent--friendly and efficient. if you're into spicy, try the diablo roll!
(5)Tiffany M.
The bronco roll was very good, but I LOVED the fried Tiger roll!!! So delicious and like that the miso soup is free with the specialty rolls! Service was a bit slow.
(4)Amy M.
Excellent presentation and quality. The seared ahi salad, miso black cod and teriyaki are excellent. Service is friendly but slow and they do not bring the check until you ask for it. Best Japanese in the Springs.
(4)Susan B.
Entertainment was great. Food was kind of bland and a bit expensive for Japanese of that quality. I can not speak for the sushi as we didn't have any, but I probably will not visit here again. :(
(2)Gabby C.
absolutely love this place! fantastic sushi menu. best sushi place i have ever been to!
(5)Sibby S.
Ambiance: Rather small restaurant with a small sushi bar, but construction was going on during my visit, and the restaurant appears will be doubling in size, taking over the vacant space next door, and adding a few teppenyaki tables. Place is clean and fresh. Service: Mixed. Was greeted and seated right away, and was served my tea, water, edamame and miso immediately, so that was good. My sushi appetizer soon followed, then my entree. Had an extremely long wait for my check though. After entree was served, server never checked back in with me. Food: Mixed. First off, there are a ton of Americanized and non-fish rolls, so this is not a place for sushi purists. Lots of rolls with mayonaise-based dressings, and other Americanized concoctions. I will say the fish is fresh, which is of huge importance at a sushi restaurant. I just felt that this place is kinda dumbed-down for people who don't like traditional raw fish sushi (though they do offer some nigiri-style raw fish selections). I ordered a bento box, and the terriyaki chicken was good, and generous in portions. I thought the tempura was excessively greasy, and did not like the ranch-style dressing on their salad (what is ranch doing in a Japanese restaurant?). Very good quality of hot green tea. Overall, a mixed bag for me. The prices here were on par with most other places in town. I still think AI, Jun, and Yoo Mae (usually) have a better sushi selection. I would probably give this place 3 1/2 stars if I could. You won't be disappointed by Kura, but If you consider yourself somewhat of a sushi purist, I think you will leave slightly disappointed.
(3)Madison L.
Guess I should have listened more to the negative reviews than the positive ones this time around on Yelp, it was definitely the worse sushi I've had, very skimpy portions. Taste was awful, I'm a vegetarian so I ordered the vegetarian rolls, so I ask you how bad can you screw up cucumber, asparagus & avocado, well apparently you can at Kura. That being said we will not be back.
(1)Kevin O.
I have friends that love the sushi, and i really appreciate the other choices they have on the menu. It's nice to have several options even though I'm at a sushi place. The staff is very friendly and it's a very comfortable atmosphere.
(4)Rhea N.
Amazing! We read the reviews and thought to give this place a shot... and we are so thankful we did. We've never had such amazing service in ANY restaurant we've been to, so far, since this place. We brought our 5 and 2 year old as well and ordered the kids chicken bento box for them. Our server was very attentive and never let any of our drinks go empty...even for a minute! It was such a breath of fresh air to go to a sushi restaurant that was not over priced and service and food were top notch. Everyone was extremely friendly and always made sure everything was good at our table... even entertaining our kids at times :) Definitely want to go back to try the other part of their restaurant. Their Tigers Eye roll was sooo good as well as the 6 other rolls we ordered, lol. I will definitely reccomend this place to everyone I know :) **If you're curious, unfortunately, they do not have any military discount...for now ;)
(5)Brian D.
Great hidden gem in the corner of the shopping center. Large menu of rolls, tempura, appetizers, noodles and other standards and they'll make any request to order. I'm not sure if vegetarians eat sea life, but they do have a veg section on the menu. I sat at the bar and talked with the chef who turned out to be Korean, but did a great job. I did note that nearly every dish was covered with one or two sauces squirted along the top of the roll - I'd recommend ordering the sauce on the side. $25 got me a miso soup, huge dish of fried calamari (sauces were awesome) and about 15-18 pieces of lobster & tuna roll, plus a drink. Staff was nice, a little slow, but this isn't supposed to be fast food.
(4)Narnia P.
Service wasn't great. People who got there after me ordered before me. The two specialty rolls were awful. I ate less then half. They were a sloppy wet mess and some fell apart on the plate before I even touched them. Sushi rolls should not slide around on the plate and roll over when untouched.

Atmosphere: I took my wife hear for her birthday last night and I was very pleased with the ambiance. There are not a lot of places where you can get white table cloths and dinner for two for around $20. Service: This probably cost them a star. I have trained servers in the past so I might be a little over-critical, but the service definitely didn't live up to the atmosphere. My glass was empty more than half the time so they failed even that easy test. Business is not an excuse, there were only 3 or 4 tops occupied in the restaurant... 2 of them at the hibachi. I read that the hibachi was new I am guessing the chefs are new too because they didn't seem to be very impressive entertainment wise from where I was sitting facing them. Food: We ordered 3 rolls: philly(smoked salmon and cream cheese), spicy yellowtail(tuna), and CV (california roll with eel topping. Philly- As someone who has claimed that cream cheese might be the most underutilized ingredient in food today, this was too much. The cream cheese was overpowering in texture and flavor. I couldn't finish this roll. I ended up taking it apart and eating the salmon out of it. Spicy Yellowtail- This was good. The flavor was good and it was just spicy enough for my wife(maybe a little tame for myself, but a little wasabi fixed that). This did get a little messy; they cut the pieces very large and the niri was tough (in all the rolls). CV- This was fantastic! Maybe the best piece of sushi I have ever had and that is all I got because my wife wouldn't share the rest. I had a hard time not grabbing the plate to lick the eel sauce off of it. We will be back.

Kura has good service and sushi. It is a plus that my Japanese sister-in-law likes going here too. The sushi is fresh and well prepared, and unlike some other places in Colorado Springs, consistently good. Kura offers a good selection of traditional Japanese and a couple of fusion dishes (Katsu Curry and Fried Rice) that are amazingly tasty. Give the place a try, you won't be disappointed.

There isn't any comparison in Colorado Springs. They are simply the best. The fish is delivered 3 days each week and they always have rare specialties that you can't find in most other places. Their prices are comparable to AI and Jun but the flavor and quality is so much better. I have had sushi all over the states and so far none have topped this. The chefs behind the counter are owners as well as the manager and they love to talk and get to know you. I have been going there for over 4 years and it seems like every time I stop in, they have grown. They have a full range of traditional liquors and sake. Would always recommend sitting at the bar if there is room and just watch how they make everything and all the different things they add. All of the fish is kept right in front of you so you can see the quality. Just talk with them and they will help you order something amazing or make something special for you. Just as an idea my last two trips in were a complete adventure. Upon walking in everyone working greets you and then one will come over and seat you or feel free to walk over to the sushi bar. I always start with the calamari steak, sauteed, because I have never had such tender and amazing squid anywhere else. Then I looked behind the counter and they had a tank of sea urchins. So as you can guess there was my next course, not my favorite but was worth trying. From there I always grab some rolls to share with my friends. The next visit they had a special with blue fin tuna. I have never had it before so I asked them what its like and they just cut a piece off and handed it to me. I have never had such a good experience at a restaurant. They are passionate about what they do and love to make specials for you and help you find something you'll love. Great place and I will always drive the extra hour from Golden to enjoy this dining experience. Overall its the best sushi and sashimi that I have had and would recommend it to everyone

The service we received was terrible!!! We ordered a chicken teriyaki bento box which comes with miso soup, tempura veggies, and salad; a cherry blossom brown rice roll which is "crab meat, tuna, salmon and avocado"; a small miso soup; a cucumber avocado roll which was not on the menu; and a chicken tempura roll. We arrived around 7 pm and found that there were no customers in the restaurant. The food was not ready. Not a big deal. However, we could not pay for the meal upon arrival, which would be the most efficient way to handle a take out order, because the kitchen had the ticket. When the food was ready, and we were able to pay, we waited 10 minutes while they hand added the price to the ticket. The longest part was waiting to decide how to charge the cucumber avocado roll. The solution was to charge a dollar to add the cucumber to an avocado roll. Basically we paid for 2 whole cucumbers at a grocery store to add a few bites to a roll. We got home and found we were missing the bento box soup, the chicken bento was beef, the cucumber avocado roll had no avocado, and the "crab meat" was actually a mushy crab salad with some sort of creamy white slop. We called to ask about the missing avocado and the bento box meat and soup. The staff member who answered the phone told us that the soup doesn't come with takeout. The online menu does not specify that. We could not get any help so we asked for a manager. From the manager, we asked for credit for the avocado roll because we did not want to drive back for a $5 roll. The manager refused and said they would make us a new cucumber avocado roll (with the avocado this time) and replace the bento box if we brought it back. Hungry, the bento box recipient preferred to just eat the beef. We asked the manager about the soup and received the same, "Sorry this is our policy". The website says it comes with soup. How is this not the published policy? We asked for contact for the owners and were told to call on a Tuesday or Thursday evening. Since I live in Florida, I cannot come back and meet anyone face to face meaning that I may talk to yet another employee and never reach the real owners. This is a poor management practice as well. Since we could not get a refund, my friend ventured back out into the cold and drove back to the restaurant, wasting gas money on their mistake, and picked up the roll. The manager threw in an extra cucumber avocado roll, not requested, as an "apology" but also gave a very insincere verbal apology. What I wanted was professional service. I don't need free food. I just want my food right the first time, then if not, a sincere apology and a real solution.

Upon walking into the bustling restaurant, the hostess was so flustered that she yelled at us to, ' Go to back of line!' She later apologized but that set the tone for a pretty disappointing experience. The miso soup and shrimp/veggie tempura were delicious. The service was ok. When I tried to make eye contact with the waitress, she would to guess what we needed instead of coming over. Then the sushi came. It was sad. The tuna roll was tiny but the eel in the caterpillar roll was difficult to detect with the naked eye. We talked with the waitress about it. First she tried to convince us there was plenty on eel in it. As we took the roll apart and pointed out that it was hard to even see the eel, she took the roll back to the chef. We watched them argue back and forth for a few minutes and she came back having lost. She said he would not remake the roll but we could order something different or not pay for it. Later as a consolation, she brought us some delicious candy ice cream dots. I'm pretty easy to please so I just ate them and called it good. But if you are looking for a night out with good service and good food, you will have to lower your expectations to come here. Good luck!

Get the lunch special. Two rolls, soup and salad for 10 bucks! They have several options for no- fish eaters too (spicy chicken rolls are super yummy). Great service and wonderful food. They have one waitress who is super fun who will totally mess with you. She can sense when you need a freaking fork. If I'm eating on the north end, I come here. Oh yeah. They have mochi ice cream and deep fried mochi ice cream. It's not at all what you think it will be and it's delicious.

A five star place for sure. Great service and great food.
(5)Grant W.
As a general rule I don't eat anything that does not moo, cluck, or oink, so sushi is not my thing. What I dug at Kura was that had Sushi for the non sushi eater! They have a buffalo chicken roll and a sweet and sour chicken roll. Add to the a few other items on the sushi menu that appeals to those not in to fish I definitely enjoy going back every time. The place is small, but comfortable. Service is always great. Some of my favorite items on the regular menu would be Agedashi Tofu followed up with Udon or maybe a Bento box. They do a lot of custom rolls here for the locals like The Tmobile Roll and The Waterboy Roll. They really take sushi to a whole new level.

A quick tip: you can EITHER have a significant amount of sushi OR hibachi, not both. So, I have one child who loves sushi. And one child who isn't so crazy about it. I called the restaurant to ask if we could have both and was assured that we could sit at the hibachi grill and order sushi - no problem. After we were seated at the grill and tried to place our order, which was a mixture of hibachi and sushi (about 50/50), our waitress very politely informed us that we could not sit at the grill if less than 70% of our party was ordering hibachi. Never mind that there was NO ONE else at the grill and no one waiting to sit there. We asked before relocating tables if we could still get hibachi food if we moved to a dining room table and were told "oh yes" so picked up drinks, menus, coats and trouped over to the other side. And were presented with a new menu. Without hibachi. Through this, our waitress was very nice to us, there was just clearly a language barrier. So we figured out another order, which was good food, but wound up disappointed a bit because of the confusion. If you want sushi, the food was great - quick! The shimp with butter sauce I had was very tasty, and my daughter's bento box was adorable. So, thumbs up for the food, thumbs down for the policy/confusion.

This is definitely below average. It was not good. Some flies in the dining area, but luckily no food poisoning. The waitress was nice.

Fresh fish, decent price, and friendly service. The Sushi chef, executive chef, and the head host all came from Ai and Jun. A great mix from some notable Japanese restaurants in town. About the only thing this place doesn't have that the other more expensive places have are the hibachi tables. But this restaurant isn't about the pretentious lure of a hot table. Instead it's all about the cozy little sushi shack that serves amazing rolls. Try the Spider Jr. or simply ask the sushi artist for his recommendations.
(4)Shanna V.
This is my favorite place to get Rice Balls. They have a special seasoning that they put on them, and i just LOVE them. Their rolls are really yummy as well, and the atmosphere of the place is very nice.

Sat down and waited for our drinks for 20 mins. 1 star because I can't give no stars. Who cares what the food is like.

Friendly wait staff. Excellent sushi! Fish is very fresh.

Uh-mazing!!!! Kura's sushi is my absolute favorite in the Springs. I prefer it to AI and Jun. Haven't been to some of the others in town because once I found Kura I just stopped trying. The service is always fantastic - they even recognize my friends and me when we come in! Even if it isn't YOUR favorite I highly recommend you try it...soon! Love the Cherry Blossom roll and my friend loves the Tiger roll (she's more daring then me) :) Enjoy!!!

We've been going to Kura now for a couple of years, and each meal has been very good, although at times the service was slow. Last night our experience was excellent. The service was friendly and attentive - not too fast, not too slow. We had a garlic calamari appetizer that was superb - so different than the traditional deep fried calamari. We tried two of the special roll that waitress shared with us - both very good. Even though the restaurant was full (even a few waiting to get in), the sushi arrived promptly and was very fresh and delicious - not rushed as you might expect on a busy night. The servings were generous. Only complaint - our table for two was very close to our neighbor and I felt we had to talk a bit more quietly to avoid being unintentionally overheard.

Kura is definately an "option" for sushi... I went there probably a year ago (so things may have changed since).... but was not all that impressed with the value to cash ratio.... The decor was nice, the staff very attentive, but I walked out not being full and having spent my "normal" sushi budget in a night...... If the price was a bit lower, I could see myself visiting more.... again, this is all based on an experience I had a year, or so, ago..... I'd give it another chance to see...
(3)Eric L.
i spent over 30 dollars and i was still not full. it was decent sushi, but seemed kinda expensive to me.
(3)Stacy P.
up there with Jun's, it's the best sushi in COS. you MUST order their Poke salad with sweet vinegar, it's not on their menu, but it's a MUST.
(4)Karen J.
Ha! Drove around looking for Kura, because I knew I was close by ... I actually started out at the far end of the parking lot. Serves me right for not using my GPS. Seated promptly and nicely, even though they're closing in a few minutes. Chatted about Firefly / Serenity. Had some tasty miso soup. Ordered Chicken Katsu. The Chicken Katsu is more breaded than I'm used to. Seems to be a cornmeal consistency. Tasty Katsu sauce. Cabbage cut very fine with a good dressing. I got in and out in less than 30-minutes.
(4)Michael R.
40 min, still waiting, hope is worth the wait. Well... it was. Great food a little pricey for what we received.
(3)Jackie K.
Unfortunately I will never come here again. I've been here about 4 times due to convenience. Here are my reasons I will no longer eat here: Sushi rolls are a mess. When I go to sushi restaurants, I like my rolls to have fresh simple clean ingredients. Here, the rolls are way overdone with too much sauce either in the roll or on the roll itself. Also the rolls just don't look appetizing. At my last visit, they were falling apart and looked straight unappealing. Bottomline, When sushi doesn't feel fresh and clean, you simply just don't want to eat it. Service. During evenings, especially the weekend, it took about an hour for our food to arrive at our table. On top of that, it wasn't easy to ask our waitress for service throughout the night because she was just so busy.
(1)Emily C.
Excellent costumer service from the moment I walked in the door! Enjoyed the happy hour specials and the sushi was superb.

Had dinner here last night for the first time. We had reserved a table for 7 but we still ended up eating around 8, as it was packed when we got in. We did get the miso soup while we waited so that was really nice to break up the hunger. The waitress was very nice and personable, she tried to help us with our selections when we needed it. All the staff (except for 2 waitresses) were Japanese. Kudos for that. I ordered the Bento Box with Beef Teriyaki and Tempura. It was super filling and so beautiful to see. All of the food came out looking immaculate and elegant. This is probably the best plating I have seen in any sushi restaurants to date. Very very beautiful presentation. The rest of the table ordered different dishes, and 2 people in our party ordered just a-la-carte sushi rolls. The fish was very fresh and delicious. The only thing that was not super fresh and crisp were the fruit that decorate the plates. I usually eat all the decorative fruit I get in my plate, but none of it was appetizing enough to eat. It looked like it had been sliced the previous day :-( The restaurant is in a strip mall near the local Albertson's and the decor is very basic mall style, but clean and simple. I am holding on to the one star because of the wited fruit and of the overall lack of ambiance, but this is a VERY GOOD sushi joint for a landlocked town. I like it!

One of the better hibachi restaurants I've been to here in Colorado Springs. It's the WORST for time to service. It took almost an hour and a half after our reservation to be served our meal. It is the BEST for overall food quality (sushi wasn't that fresh) and presentation. Top points for our server MJ and chef Frankie. We'll come here again. If you are in the mood for Japanese in CS, this is the spot. Just don't get pissed off about the wait after you are seated. Enjoy the meal.

Kura used to be our family's go-to Japanese restaurant, but they have slipped quite a bit in quality. Service was always kind of slow, but it was usually competent. This evening we stopped by for dinner and I left very disappointed. We're seated right away, and the waitress took our drink orders fairly quickly. We ordered water and I asked for some green tea. The waitress brought the water, but no tea. The waitress said she would get it, but then proceeded to forget. We got out miso soup, still no tea. Finally, my wife flagged down the bus boy and got him to bring it. It then arrived lukewarm and when I finished the first cup I had to ask again to get a refill of lukewarm tea. On top of the poor service, the food was decidedly sub-par. I had been craving katsu donburi all week, and Kura used to have a pretty authentic version at a reasonable price. The first thin I noticed was that the price has risen to $13 for this dish. Considering this dish is the equivalent of a hamburger in Japan -- cheap but filling food -- paying that much is hard to swallow. But I ordered it anyway because, as I mentioned, I had been craving it all week. When they brought it out I was very disappointed. It looked as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp too long. It was very dry, and the egg on top was clearly overdone. The juices that normally flow down to flavor the rice were nearly nonexistent, making the rice pretty bland and unappealing. I hate to say it, but I'm going to think long and hard about coming back anytime soon. Between the poor service and the sub-par quality, it just isn't worth the price.

This was the second time I had been to Kura with my girlfriend. First time we went we had the sushi. Tonight we tried our hand at the hibachi. What a mistake! The first time we went was a few weeks ago. The sushi was great. Unfortunately, it took forever to get our sushi (4 rolls). Tonight we went again, I believing what could have been a bad night for service the first visit was undeniably proven to be not the fact. We were seated within 5 minutes and initially the server took our order. Then, my girlfriend and I, not to mention the other family sharing this hibachi station had to wait over an hour before the cook came out to dazzle us with lackluster hibachi chef skills and his terrible cooking. I ordered the lobster seafood trio and my girlfriend ordered the scallops and chicken. They were terrible. The secret ingredient to all of this. Well, how much butter can one chef slap on a hibachi grill is the answer. Lobster, scallops, shrimp, and even the fried rice were covered in so much butter that I couldn't finish the meal due to feeling sick after only a few bites. My girlfriend's meal was no better. Butter soaked chicken and scallops. She tried a bite of my fried rice and almost spit the rice back out on her plate. The best part of the meal was when I looked over at two couples sitting at the station next to us who had been waiting over an hour and a half with no more than drinks. After watching them ask multiple times if they could order, I finally decided enough was enough and wanted to leave. Bare in mind this was after waiting an hour for the food to come out on the cart, another 30 minutes for the hibachi chef to cook it, and about 15 to 20 minutes before the saturated butter turned my stomach. Terrible! Terrible! Terrible! To top it off I walked up to the counter to pay for my meal. I asked the woman behind the counter if she gave a military discount and she said only for active duty. I asked her what about retired military. She said, " Sorry no." I looked at her and said, "Let me get this right. You give a discount for those currently serving in the military, but not those who have served?" She promptly told me in a very cold and insincere manner that her husband was active duty currently, which I didn't believe for a minute, and that there was no discount. She then refused to make eye contact with me any further as she handed me back my receipt to sign it. So, in review: -Good sushi, if you can wait for it. -Worst service of any restaurant I have ever been to nationwide -Incredibly cold and impolite staff -Not military friendly. (How can you place a bias between active duty and retired? Disgraceful.) The price tag for this awful experience - a whopping $78 and change. Thank you Kura for convincing me never to eat at your overpriced restaurant again. I would have left no stars if Yelp gave me the choice.
(1)Emily T.
I don't think I've ever had a terrible experience here. The sushi is delicious, my favorite is the sunset roll. Everything always tastes fresh. Besides AI down on Powers, this is a go-to. This place can get really busy on the weekends, so be prepared for that.
(5)Jessica K.
This place won me over the first time I stopped by for takeout and ordered nigiri. I've only ordered takeout nigiri every time afterwards and maybe I should have stuck with just plain rice and fish 'cause when I took my sister here months later, we both had odd tummy issues from the spider roll and the spicy tuna rolls. I agree with the other reviewers when they point out how understaffed the place is. In fact, when I call the restaurant the phone rings and rings for longer than 7-8 rings sometimes. I understand they can be busy so my sister and I kicked back and relaxed while we waited...and waited...and waited... They originally told us our first choice for appetizers took longer than 30 minutes so we decided to just stick to the Super Spider Jr. and the Dragon Roll. We should have just ordered the okonomiyaki and placed bets on what would have gotten to the table first. When the rolls finally did get to the table, we saw that they were certainly beautiful and quite large. They tasted alright, the service was friendly when they could get around to us and the linens were a nice touch. With the exception of the two of us getting cramped stomach pains and other unmentionable issues, dinner was lovely.

Over the weekend, I met a friend at Kura for lunch. The décor is nice, and there is plenty of seating. There are plenty of individual chairs and some bench-type seating. They also have a seating area where patrons remove their shoes and sit on large pillows, which (I'm assuming) is the authentic Japanese seating. There are also three teppanyaki grills to sit around. Oh yeah, there is also a bar for your eating and drinking pleasure. I had no complains with our service. We had our drinks right away and our appetizer came out soon after. The appetizer was dumplings with peanut sauce and was excellent. I ordered a mango lemonade which was good but very expensive. It was 4.50, and you are NOT ABLE to get a free refill for the mango lemonade. I don't have much experience with sushi so my friend ordered all the rolls. I enjoyed them all. We had the Bronco roll which was spicy and delicious! Another roll was (I think) called the MGT which was lightly fried. This was my favorite. We had two other rolls but the Bronco and MGT stood out to me. I enjoyed everything at Kura and would recommend.
(4)Sean C.
My favorite in The Springs. The staff is always on point and, while we may have to wait for a table on a busy night, it's ALWAYS worth it. Fish is always fresh and the drinks are always well poured. Order the Poke Salad .. have Sam make it as his method is the best.
(5)Lucy B.
I have only had their sushi and it was some of the best sushi I have had in the Springs. My review is for sushi in the springs. Not sushi overall. In comparison, they are a little pricier than some peoples favorites but you get what you pay for in my opinion. They have higher quality and fresher fish than other restaurants. I have not eaten at the tables.
(4)Linda E.
Tried the sea urchin after a suggestion from a lady sitting at the bar the last time I was there. Not a huge fan, but it wasn't bad, maybe just something I need to get used to. Got some salmon sashimi and an avocado/fresh water eel roll. Great service. Water refills are quick, greeted when you enter, complimentary fruit dessert given when sitting at the bar. Not sure if everyone gets it or I'm just special :)
(5)Nancy H.
I have dined at Kura for many years, and decided recently that I would love to have their sushi on my birthday. The dining area is a little cramped but the decor is nice and the restaurant overall has a good feel to it. We had made reservations at 6 pm and they didn't seat us until about 6:20 pm, but the hostess looked slammed and I think they were understaffed a little up front. The waitress who served us was so helpful and friendly and was extremely attentive. The sushi was delicious and beautifully presented. The only complaint I would have was that they don't seem to have a good grasp on gretting people when you walk in, but once you get past that the experience is wonderful. I have been a fan of this restaurant for many years, and will continue to be for many more.
(4)Tony D.
This place puts out really good food and I always like to try the specials. My favorite roll is the super spider Jr. it is delish. In my opinion one of the top 3 sushi restaurants in town and I like them all.
(4)Lan K.
pfft who says you can't get seafood in a landlocked state? Came here for dinner on a Sunday night and got sushi. Other parties got a chicken stir fry dish and the bento box. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Specifically, I got the Crispy Spicy Tuna salad. The rice had like a tempura fried shell which was delicious and then topped with spicy tuna, avocado, and jalapeno slices. It was really good and spicy, just the way I like. There was a bit too much rice probably though. I would have preferred less rice so that I could enjoy the tuna and avocado on top more. I also got the CU roll topped with eel which was very good. Would have never known we were in CO instead of the coast. Everyone, even just the sushi eaters, got miso soup too which was good. Tried the ginger dressing and was not a fan. It was creamy like a ranch almost instead of fresh and light. Service was good. Prices were right for sushi
(4)Nic H.
Kura was the very first sushi restaurant my boyfriend and I went to together, so it already held a special place in my heart...but honestly, we've had a hard time finding better sushi anywhere in Colorado. Miso soup is perfect. Fish is fresh and always served in generous cuts. Rolls are ridiculously huge, flavorful and reasonably priced; their version of a Dragon Roll is EPIC, there's just no other way to describe it. If we lived closer, I'm pretty sure I'd go for their lunch special (soup, salad and two rolls) waaaaaay more often than I should. Service has always been great, though some of the servers can be a bit hard to understand. Still, friendly and very attentive. Can't say I care too much about ethnicity of servers OR chefs, as long as they're good at what they do! My only complaint, though certainly not enough to cost them a star, was our experience on Valentine's Day. As expected, they were packed, and both service and food suffered because of it. It took over an hour to get our meal, but they more than made up for it by giving us two free appetizers and a couple of free drinks. With service like that, who am I to complain about ONE instance of slightly-too-vinegary rice and sloppily-made rolls? ;)
(5)Nick B.
This might be in the running for best Sushi in the Springs. In my opinion Sushi Ring has the best but it lacks many things that would make it a great dining experience. Kura can fill those gaps. The decor in Kura is awesome and the multiple seating arrangements allows you to come in any party size without having to move tables around. They even have the authentic floor seating but the floor is cut out underneath the table to your knees don't cramp up. They also have Hibachi tables for those less adventurous with a sushi menu. This place always seems packed but you never have to wait more than 5 minutes for a table. It's probably just because they're really under staffed. But this employment problem does not reflect on their service whatsoever. They have one waiter/manager in particular that just kills it and he always makes it a point to say hello every time we're in. The sushi here is quite unique in the fact that it caters to the more westernized sushi palates. What I mean is alot of their rolls are either baked or deep fried. Some love this and some don't. I personally do not care for it, BUT, they have a section at the bottom of their menu that allows you to create your own rolls! this is such an awesome idea and I use it every time I come in. I prefer more simple rolls and this portion of the menu allows me to be a little creative as well. The fish here is always fresh and delicious. They probably have the best fish I've had in town, if not second best. And you will see many types of fish on their menu that you won't be able to find elsewhere. They have some truly unique selections, mostly ordered Nigiri style. If Sushi isn't your thing, they have a massive menu of traditional Japanese dishes as well as everyones favorite fried rice. From Udon to Yakisoba, their menu has it all and it's quite delicious. Their portions are massive so make sure you order one to share....with three people. I have yet to eat at the Hibachi tables in the back but it looks and smells delicious. You can not order the hibachi food at the regular tables. Bummer I know. The last thing I want to note about this fine restaurant is the presentation of their sushi. It rivals some of the best presentations I've ever seen anywhere in the country. They use a real banana leaf for every plate and the skills shown with their knife is incredible. For those against the food photography, this place might have you pulling out your phone. It's that good.

We always enjoy the food here. It was extremely busy but our food was brought out fast, waitress didn't allow our drinks to get low and left with very full bellies
(5)Dan T.
Highly recommended! They have so many sushi choices I couldn't decide. I wanted something spicy so I asked my waitress for some help and she suggested the Diablo rolls. They are not for the faint of pallet but it was just what I needed! Totally worth!

Very pleasant experience each time I go to Kura. Since my other favorite Japanese establishment closed, this has become one of my favorites. Excellent sushi and sushimi and very fresh. Promp service and polite Japanese manners. Food items that I have tried have been Bento, Yakisoba, and the Hibachi steak cooked in traditional steakhouse tradition. It's refreshing to to enjoy good food and good atmosphere for lunch or dinner. Good selection of Saki as well. I don't believe that you will be disappointed. I give it four stars.

I'm from Hawaii and have experienced great sushi in my life. Being in landlocked Colorado, Kura is a decent place to satisfy my cravings for Asian food. It's not all authentic but it's tasty. My one complaint is when we ordered takeout from their online menu, it clearly states that you get Miso soup along with certain meals (which we had ordered). When we got home and called them about it, we were told that the menu states "Miso soup is only for dine-in services". WRONG. It does not state anything of the sort. They attempted to rectify it so we'll see if they hold true to their word. They've messed up my takeout orders before so maybe y'all should just be careful about double-checking your takeout orders before leaving the restaurant. As well it should be. Happy Eating!

When writing Yelp reviews, I tend to try and stray away from giving a 5-Star. Only reserving that for the best in whatever genre of cusine I'm reviewing. I thought I had already decided what would get my 5-Star choice in Sushi, but this one comes pretty damned close if not equaled it. So, considering this is about 1200 miles away from my current 5-Star choice (for which I have NOT written a review for yet; go me), this one definitely gets top honors. As part of my Colorado adventure, this was the second Sushi place I had tried during my vacation in order to ease my girlfriend back into eating fish. The first was Sushi Ring (a complete scuzz-hole, which I liked, but the food sucked, so...) and the second was a much better experience with Kura. I could have made her first fish dish grilled shark, but I decided the only way to go was Salmon Roe, Fresh Water Eel, and Raw Tuna. Is that so wrong? First off, the plating here is incredible. Tuna sashimi served three ways in a martini glass with gari and wasabi garnish. On a technical level that is insane and gorgeous to look at. Not the best tuna I've ever had, but it was cool and tender, very tasty. Next was my personal favorite, Salmon Nigiri. Sliced wide and long, it was a stunning orange color and as buttery and yummy as it should be. Simple and best way to eat it, outstanding. With the simple dishes out of the way, I ordered a coouple of complex rolls to top off our meal. I know it as a Jalapeno Roll and a number of places in San Diego serve variations of it. There's was the Kiss of Fire Roll, a blend of spicy crab meat, shrimp, and cream cheese all stuffed into a jalapeno, fried, and drizzled with both a spicy sriracha and sweetened soy sauce. This was my girlfriend's favorite and I got to watch her expression melt from apprehensive fear into one of genuine surprise and joy. That alone is worth bumping up a star. And we topped it all off with a Dragon Roll. Every sushi restaurant makes this and each has their own take. Most try to go flamboyant and sacrafice flavor for style. Kara manages to join the two fantastically with a large and thick cut roll covered in the biggest grilled eel I have ever seen. Curled on the plate like a serpent breathing fire, my girlfriend enjoyed the taste while still lhaving difficulty with the texture. I loved it. If I ever have the chance to go back to Colorado Springs, I will definitely try another sushi bar first, then come here again to wash out the taste of it with the real thing.

I tried the Chicken Fried Rice, Crazy Spicy Roll, Inari, Crab Balls, Salmon, Spicy Edamame, and some other things. All the food was great. The ambiance of the restaurant was also good. Looking around, I saw most people eating with sticks, but I used a fork. I'd come back to this place again.

GO HERE! We went on an afternoon when it was pretty slow, but opted to eat a full meal off the tapas menu. Food was great, service was great, dining room is beautiful. People leaving reviews about slow service are probably going during peak hours when service is slow everywhere. Cut a small business a break!!! They are doing amazing things with the friendly staff!

We have eaten here many times and the Sushi and service is normally very good. On this occasion, Father's Day, we decided to eat at one of their Teppanyaki tables. We showed up at 7:00 PM and the place was moderately busy, but not packed. The side of the restuarant with the tables was empty of people and looked like a bomb went off. We asked the hostess if we could have Teppanyaki and she looked at us like we were from Mars. "You want what?" "We would like to eat at one of your Teppanyaki tables", I point. "You mean hibachi?" "Yes" (so even though their website calls the place Kura Sushi and Teppanyaki Grill, I get to look stupid." How much fun is that? Then "just a minute" she said. She went over and spoke to someone and came back. She told us it would be a little while since they need to clean up after the earlier seating. So we waited and waited and noone ever started cleaning up the area and well, you get the picture. So we said we would rather just sit at a regular table and have sushi if it was going to take much longer. So they sat us. The waitress came over and asked us if we wanted something to drink. I ordered a Kirin and my wife ordered a Lemon Drop. "A what". "A lemon drop". "You want beer? Wine? No, I want a lemon drop". Hold on. "What is lemon drop". "Never mind, I'll have a vodka tonic". A what? I know, ordering drinks in some asian run establishments can be sketchy, but there is a beautiful full bar less than 10 feet from where we are sitting with virtually everything you can think of right there. You would think that one could surmise that this would mean that they can actually make a drink. Apparently not. We left, went to a competitor, had great Teppanyaki or habachi or whatever you want to call it and cocktails. It was very nice. I plan on giving them a great review.

Great sushi and hibachi. The service was good. Staff was friendly and the place was very clean.

My family and I love going there for sushi. I love the staff and the sushi chefs making delicious sushi rolls! I also love their udon noodles. They're not too spicy, just perfect. I have seen their hibachi grill tables but never tried it before. I want to try their hibachi menu someday!

I never had Japanese food until April 2012 and I went to Kura...wow...totally fell in love with the food. Sushi is officially my new favorite food. Every dish is prepared as ART. The presentation is amazing and the food is delicius! To start, the soup is always hot. I hate cold soup. Kura's soup come steaming to your table. Each time I go there they always renew my vote of confidence that I am having good, quality food. I can't believe I spent all my life without trying sushi. The plates come beautifully decorated and I go there so often now that I know everybody's name! My favorite sushi rolls are volcano and cherry blossom. I promise to add some pictures later!

Simply the best sushi this side of Chiba City. The chefs are friendly and the food is outstanding. A great deal too - not too expensive. If you're 1100 miles from the ocean, it doesn't get better!

I am a sushi lover! Both traditional and Americanized sushi. Kura probably has the best sushi in the springs (I know for a lot of people that's not saying much- but it's still enjoyable!). Of the other restaurants around the springs- the rolls offered here are the tastiest and prepared the best. Places like A.I. and Jun maybe more popular because they have the teppanyaki grills but when it comes to good sushi- they can't hold a candle to Kura. The people are friendly and service is great, the miso soup is perfectly salty, and the Japanese Beer -Kirin Ichiban- is on tap- what more could you want? My favorite rolls include the Yummy roll, crunchy shrimp roll, the Philly roll, and the bronco- just to name a few!

My favorite place for sushi. Always fresh and always tasty. Must be going through ruff time with wait staff. Last visit was very disorganized. Not typical.

UPDATE, 29SEP13. i'd like to say that Kura is a new favorite. they figured out their staffing issues and have ended up on my list of places to go. the issues noted below have been resolved. 4 stars for doing awesome and turning things around. thanks. ----------------------------------------- ORIGINAL REVIEW. one server for 4 grills (8 tables) - makes things slooooowwwwwww - ordered calamari, server forgot and it didn't come out - asked for another sake cup, had to ask again after a while of waiting. - the lone server needed to bus all the tables also (8 people each grill). slow. - they were short on teppan chefs, so the sushi chef had to play backup all night. - water glasses remained empty for a long time. - waited for check...and waited. - chef cooked food one person at a time, increasing cooking time and waiting for a complete dinner until the bitter end. - check was incorrect. charged us for items we did not order. was $20 more! one good thing about our experience - the sake was very warm. take a look at this pro vs all the cons. if i want to see a cluster, i'll come here again. my advice is to wait a little while until they can figure out their personnel and management issues.

Go for the sushi! The sushi was reallllly good. I'm not sure what was in the California roll. It was creamy so perhaps cream cheese. My husband liked his tempura bento box and mom was happy with the udon soup. I thought everything was on the salty side, except for the sushi...which was realllly good! Also only one waitress is Japanese and the sushi chefs are Korean.

Great food and friendly service. Better than AI.

Service is great! Our server is very attentive. I will give him 5 stars for that but the food is average. A bit pricey for the quality. Do order the ika steak for appetizer but avoid the spicy scallop nigiri.

The best Japanese food in north Colorado Springs. That's not saying much of course. The sushi is just okay, but what I really like are all the other Japanese comfort food items on the menu -- sukiyaki, hamachi kama, tempura, gyudon, etc. -- things that none of the other Korean-owned (and yes, Kura is also Korean-owned) Japanese restaurants simply don't bother to serve. This is Colorado Springs, so you're unfortunately not going to find the quality of Japanese food that you will find in LA or NYC, but Kura will scratch the itch reasonably well.

Best salmon sashimi I've ever eaten. Got the T-Mobile roll per the server's suggestion and wasn't a fan but the rest of the meal was great. Kids loved the gyoza and udon soup. Husband had their katsu curry and was in heaven. Everything tasted fresh and was well prepared. The service was warm and friendly. Ask for James, he'll take care if you! Very impressed and will definitely be back.

I used to love this place until last Friday. My husband, daughter and I arrived around 2:15 PM to have lunch. We were seated right away but it took us a few minutes to get our 9 month old settled in her highchair with some snacks and toys so we could relax and order our meal. I was looking forward to reading over all the sushi and roll descriptions to pick some favs and some new ones. The waitress came over a few times asking we were ready and each time I told her I needed some time to look over the menu. She mentioned that the kitchen closed at 2:30 PM - irritated I looked at the clock on my phone and it was 2:26 PM. I told her that we will be ordering but if we could please just give me a chance to read over the menu we would appreciate it. Now that I was irritated I finally decided to just order my usual since the wait staff was in a hurry. I marked the sushi list and then sat and waited for the waitress to come back. She came back and took my order and then started walking off. I stopped her and said that my husband is ordering a bento box because he does not eat sushi. She said oh well he cannot order because the kitchen is closed. I looked at my clock and it was 2:32 PM!!! I could not believe it! I tried to reason with her but she would not take my husband's order so we decided to leave. If they would've communicated this as soon as we arrived it would have been helpful!! I stopped and asked for the manager at the hostess station. I saw her look back over my shoulder at someone and then she said that the manager was not available and gave us a card with a number to call. We will be calling this number to complain, but I'm not sure if it will get us anywhere considering the attitude of the staff. TERRIBLE customer service. I will never eat here or recommend this place again.

Sushi is fantastic. Taste, presentation, it was all great. I'm not sure why this place is not on zagat? I had the Diablo and the Kiss of Fire, very spicy as expected. They were both very flavorful. I will definitely be back. There's only one place that beats this...and that was in San Diego
