My partner and I tried this place for the first time. It was across the street from the FedEx Office that we had stopped at to take care of some business, so we figured we'd give it a shot since it was convenient. When we walked in, we were immediately seated and our server was prompt to get our drinks. The atmosphere was cozy and I really liked the level of lighting in the dining room. I observed that the only TV in the whole place was in the small, sectioned off bar area so I was thankful to not have no distractions in the main dining room. The food is freakin' delicious, really some of the best down-home comfort food I've had in a long time. The menu had a huge variety of things for any taste, from salads to meatloaf to shepherd's pie to open-faced turkey sandwiches. I ordered one of the Monday specials (chicken fried chicken) with a side of fried corn and corn stuffing (yes, I love corn) and sweet tea to drink. While we waited for our order we were given a basket of rolls and cornbread which were very tasty. The cornbread was kinda crumbly but the flavor more than made up for it. My partner ordered another Monday special (chicken fried steak) with broccoli and coleslaw. When our entrees came out everything looked great. The coating on the meat was nice and crispy and the meat itself was so tender my butter knife cut right through it - perfect in my book. The fried corn was a bit awkward to bite into at first, but the flavor was great. The stuffing was nice and moist, perfect texture for me and really complemented the chicken fried chicken. I had so much food I took half of it home for later. I had just enough room to try some of their homemade peach cobbler for dessert, and it was just enough to top off a damn good meal. Our server was attentive and really friendly, keeping our drinks filled. If you want some delicious comfort food, Black-Eyed Pea is definitely worth the trip.

This was our first experience at this restaurant. We had a great experience. It was clean. The service was awesome. She was very attentive to our needs. We both got the vegetable plate and it was good! The black-eyed peas are the best I have ever had!! Would definitely visit this restaurant again! Very casual, family-friendly, and the fresh bread was relish!

Best chicken fried steak in town! I always enjoy the fresh bread. It is like old fashioned home cooking without the hassle!

I've never posted a review before and never left $0 for a tip either until tonight. We went here to try it out for the first time and the hostess was really nice. She seated us fast and opened the door for us when we left. However the server was the crappiest one I've ever had. She took out order then left and never returned until we were done. Another server brought us our food and we asked for honey which was on every other table and not offered to us. I could see and hear our server talking to another server the entire time. We even wanted dessert but couldn't order it because she never came back until long after we were done. I asked her for a box she went to get it, held the box while talking to someone for about ten minutes, walked towards our table stopped and turned around talking some more twice. I just gave her my credit card to prevent further waiting but of course she stood there talking some more. The food was okay but the best thing was my husbands beer.

This place is good overall. Good service and fair food. I like it better than Applebee's. Country fried steak is actually pretty legit.

I've heard the food is good but I don't know and I'll never know! For the first time I was forced to walk out and refused to eat there because of bad service. I wasn't even seated for two seconds. The hostess was so rude! As soon as we walked in we weren't even greeted, my husband had to tell her how many were in our party because she didn't even ask, we asked for a booth. She ignored our request and tried to seat us at a both in the back of resturant. So we asked again for a booth . Once at the booth she refused to give us a sling for my 6 month old sling and told me he would be in the way and to put him in the booth. I have no problem with that but it didn't fit and she still wouldn't give me one so I just left. She was redheaded small and RUDEEEEEE. Never again

My family and I ate here tonight and it was by far the best service we have ever received... We had a little situation and the waitress & manager were extremely attentive to the issue and showed they truly cared..Although the incident that occurred wasn't too great, they did the absolute most to make it up to us, not having to pay for any of our food. We were not expecting that at all! And the food was actually really good! We will definitely be going back :)

When I walked in yesterday I thought I had walked into an old-folks' home. There were blue haired people EVERYWHERE! The median age had to be 103. Our waitress got to our table quickly, but then her attitude went downhill from there. Everyone in my party, including me, never eat at BEP so she had to come back to the table two times before we knew what we wanted. By the time we ordered she seemed put out that she had to serve us. The food prices are good, well, until you receive your tiny order. I ordered the meatloaf with brown gravy, mashed potatoes and snap peas. I customized the order by having them grill the meatloaf. When the order arrived it looked like a kids' meal. The meatloaf was two thin slices about the same size as a child's hamburger patty. Definitely not the hearty portion of meatloaf you'd get anywhere else. The mashed potatoes came in a small ramekin. And my snap peas were MIA. I'm glad I had them grill the meatloaf. That was great. Probably the best part of the experience besides the hot rolls. Our waitress pretty much avoided our table until we were finished eating. I was not asked if I wanted a drink refill until then either. The old-folks' home size portions, and the crap service killed this visit for me even if the food did taste good and was priced well.

I've never been to a restaurant in this chain before, so I'll have to give it another go before I officially give up on it. We arrived to a medium full room of fellow patrons, and we were greeted and seated quite quickly. The booth was too small for 2 averaged size men to sit across from each other, and that would've been fine if we hadn't been there for 90 minutes. The server didn't come by for several minutes. She took more time to get food orders than it did for us to drive in from Fountain. All 3 of the tables immediately surrounding us had been seated afterwards, but they all were nearly finished with their food before we saw ours. AND NOW THEIR REDEEMING QUALITY............THE FOOD! I was quite pleased with my Caliente Burger that came with pepper jack cheese, roasted jalapeños, and probably a fist full of cayenne pepper. I can handle spicy foods with the best of them, but the first few bites into this smoking hot flavor mash was AMAZINGLY surprising! My nose started watering after about 3-4 bites. My coworker said, "Wow okay lightweight," before going into a coughing fit and exclaiming that it was honestly caused by the fumes coming from my burger across the table. It was quite tasty and many of the other menu items looked equally appetizing, so I'd like to try them again. I probably won't try them there because I'm not typically in Colorado Springs very often. If for nothing else, the trek back would probably still be worthwhile for the hell fire blaze of a burn my mouth experienced from the definitely memorable burger.

Wow, I have never eaten at a Black-Eyed Pea before and both my children and I lovedddd everything from the mashed potatoes to the turkey to the cornbread. The kids meals were very inexpensive and came with vegetables and a drink and a dessert. I love the amount of veggies you get with every meal. I totally recommend this place for anybody, price is great and food is delicious with lots of options. I just wish we had these restaurants in Oregon.

I ordered off the to-go menu and it was ready for pick up in 10 mins. I think thats a really reasonable time. The staff was friendly and the restaurant looks nice. The food was to salty, next time I will ask for light salt. The sides were not a large enough portion and thats why i'm giving 4 out 5 stars instead of 5 out of 5. I will reorder though.

It's a chain like Applebee's or Chili's so expect southern style food in that type of atmosphere. I end up there once or twice a year and it is always the same experience. The food is average, the server is usually average.

mediocre meal horrible service. i' ve read the other reviews here maybe i just caught a bad night. he restaurant itself didn't look bad fairly clean and the hostess was very friendly. i think the experience changed as soon as the waitress came to the table she had no clue what beverages were available nor did she seem to know her menu. my choice was the chicken breast which came VERY dry, the dinner salad lacked presentation and immediately turned me off when i saw the was browning, diner #2 asked for grilled corn and received fried corn when he told the waitress it wasn't what he ordered she got very defensive. Diner #3 ordered catfish and shrimp and received another dry chicken and under cooked shrimp. When we finally got the waitress attention to let her know the meal was wrong it took and extraordinary amount of time to correct the mistake and then returned a half portion of catfish. diner#3 declined the catfish stating it didn't look or taste right the waitress took it to the back and stated " the manager apologized and discounted 5.00 off the meal. the waitress then took payment and left the cards in the back while she busied herself with another angry table after finally making payment we asked to speak with a manger only to find out he was not even aware of the situation with the table

Black Eyed Pea is a "go to" restaurant for a filling and relatively inexpensive meal. The food here is familiar American standards served "chain style". . . . .by which I mean the food is consistent to the nth degree. Hamburgers n' fries, pot pie, pot roast, chicken fried steak, soup and salad, fried okra. . mmm fried okra. No one will be blown away by their innovative menu. Sometimes, ho hum familiarity isn't such a bad thing. . . as long as the price is right. I love that you don't need to ASK for rolls and biscuits. . they are offered to you up front. "would you like some rolls and cornbread biscuits?" HELL YES!!!! This particular location has a full bar and FREE wifi. Generally never busy on weekday evenings. Patrons range in age but for the most part are middle aged to golden aged. Always a table with grandparents, parents and kids. . . .always. Tuesdays, kids eat free with each adult dinner purchased. There are usually a handful of other specials going on throughout the week. I am able to leave with a full belly and leftovers for under $9.00. Not bad for a sit down meal. Overall, the service comes off as consistent at this location. Friendly, helpful and efficient. No complaints from this girl.

We love this lil diner. We tried black bear about 2 weekends before and hated it. (Everything over there was smothered in gravy, oh the horror!) This place was great! They were never too busy and the servers are nice. The Food is pretty good. Everything I have had there has been great!
