We took our 4 and 6 year old sons here for their first real horse ride. We were blown away. We were met by Ben, our personal guide and instructor and Bex the owner/operator. They were so personable, so nice, and very accommodating. We had trouble finding a ranch to get our boys on a mini-ride/introductory session and I had very low expectations for what we were looking for. I couldn't have been more wrong. Our boys were put on two beautiful horses (not older slow horses on their way to retirement). Ben gave the boys excellent instruction with the horses, took them on a great ride around several properties, and even threw in some teaching about native plants and animals. We simply could not have hoped for a better experience. We will be back and will be looking to stay on site next time. Thanks so much!

If you are looking for a beautiful, relaxing, country vacation...this is it. Bex & Scott (the owners) are so outgoing and friendly, just being around them is like a breath of fresh air. The cabins are clean, comfy and have full kitchens, (if you go during the off season..spring, fall & winter). During the summer, this ranch operates as a "dude" ranch, with horseback riding, on beautifully groomed forest, aspen and meadow trails. All meals, riding and activities are included. Nothing better than after a beautiful day of horseback riding, archery, fishing, rafting, hiking and relaxing in the hot tub, than to sit down to a luscious meal. Whether it was breakfast, lunch or dinner, the meals were exceptional. Another bonus was to sit around the campfire and look at the beautiful, starry Colorado sky, at night. The stars are so bright, you think you can almost reach out and touch them. They have horses to match any level of rider and lessons are also given for youngsters and novice riders. This ranch is small in size but the owners goal is to make this experience your most memorable. You won't be sorry you stayed here.

If your looking for a "resort" this is not it, but if you are looking for a place off the beaten path, no TV, no internet, just peace & quiet then this is it. New owners took possession 4 months ago and wow what a place. Sits 25 miles outside of Steamboat nestled right next to National forest, so trails galore. Hospitality is top notch, stocked firewood & a little Saloon on site just in case you get thirsty:) Stayed this past weekend & it snowed the entire time. Hiked to Strawberry Hill hot springs & soaked it all in-what an experience. We will definitely be back!

We spent a couple days in heaven this past weekend! The Elk River Guest Ranch was just what we needed to unwind and recharge for the hectic life we live. Josh, Susan, and Michelle go the extra yard to make you feel right at home on the ranch. We stayed in the Aspen cabin with our dog and it was very comfy. We were very impressed with the cleanliness and amenities for such a rustic cabin. When we had a minor problem with the stove, it was fixed pronto! They even opened up the saloon for us to watch the Broncos beat the Cowboys in an exciting finish! The area is so beautiful with the fall colors and the nearby stream and the ranch is in the perfect location to enjoy it all! Leave your hectic life behind and check this place out...you'll be pleasantly surprised!

I think the ride out to the ranch from Steamboat Springs was actually longer one way then our entire time spent in the sleigh. We reserved a private sleigh ride recently and were a little disappointed with the length of our ride. Granted, all aspects of our trip out to the ranch were a very unique experience... but by the end of the night my fiancé and I had wished we had just gone on the sleigh with the entire rest of the group of people since there was hardly anything romantic about having 15 people trailing behind us and to eat dinner in a tepee with. If the ride had been completely private it could have potentially been worth the price, but I'm not sure. The staff is all very friendly and are great people, but in the end I felt like this was another one of those things you do on a vacation just to say you did it and not really for the memories.

It was my first horse ride ever and I loved it. Cheryl and Ron were great hosts and Peter, our guide, was most helpful. I never once felt scared on the horse. The 2-hr ride all the way up the mountains was very scenic; it was more strenuous than I'd expected but I managed thanks to Peter's expert coaching. I didn't even feel pain in the rump afterward, as I thought I would. I only felt bad for my 3 companions who rode behind me in a single file and didn't get to chat with Peter.

Go! The ride was fantastic ! The best ride have ever had, the horses were terrific and trained well. The trail was the most impressive I have ever been on. The guides and all the employees were very friendly. I can't recommend this place enough.
