This place is great! We love going here. We've been here numerous times and the food is always delicious - we've taken our entire family - 5 kids, and the staff couldn't be any nicer. Our kids love it, but be prepared because the service can be a quite slow at times, but everyone is very friendly.

Great happy hour...spicy hand rolls. fresh and right amount of heat. Older sushi chef Kazu, does it right. Location in yet another strip mall along Arapahoe, but this is a winner. Watched Chef Kazu peel a white radish perfect strips round and round. He's obviously passionate about his ingredients.

My family and I have been going to this sushi place for probably about 8 years now and we absolutely love it. It's a small family owned sushi place, the sushi chef Kazu is very friendly and nice! I love their cold crab noodle salad. I've been to a lot of sushi restaurants and they are still the only ones that serve it. It's like a thin rice noodle with cucumber mixed with a creamy sauce. Super delicious! I always get their California roll as well. It's just the perfect seasoning and it's a big roll. I recommend getting the crispy roll if you don't like raw fish. Magic mushroom is also one of my favorite at Kazu. Honestly I like most the their menu, though there are sometimes that the fish isn't that fresh (only down fall). If you are ever around during lunch they have really good prices for lunch specials. They have a different lunch special everyday! I feel like the price is reasonable and you get big pieces of sushi. Lovely customer service! Defin you give this place a try and support small family businesses!

Oh my gosh this is delicious! It is a tiny hole in the wall but so worth finding. Japanese chef behind the sushi bar is so sweet. (All of the people seem to be great). We ordered the caterpillar roll, bronco roll, lobster tempura roll, philly and the magic mushrooms. Heavenly. We will be going back for sure.

Talk about finding your go-to sushi place! I've been a few times now and the sushi has been killer every time - and every time I've left stuffed for under $15. The chefs lunch specials are almost always the way to go, especially if you're like me - looking for that special place where quality meets a set price point that leaves the tastebuds in joy without making you feel like your wallet was stolen. The service - good. The tuna - good. The salmon - gooood. The rolls - goooooooooood. That's all there is to say. Thank you sushi kazu.

Love to visit Sushi Kazu and say Hello to Kazu san and enjoy his creativity on the plate. Yes, he is Japanese and cant compare his life long creativity with other sushi places. There is lil something about him that creates that little something about on the plate makes this place stand out from the rest. The presentation is awesome that is not extravagant, not so colorful but simple yet very defined of his style. Many countless visits including today, I have always left with satisfaction. Today's visit was during lunch rush and all of the tables were filled up so ended up seating at the sushi bar. We got served by new lady and I can see she was trying hard but definitely new to the business. We got the drink and food in very timely manner but as we were waiting for refill on drinks, noticed she totally forgot to bring us the privilege of seating on the sushi bar which are warm hand towels and dish of appetizer (?) like. OH well. we hardly ever seat at the bar so, no big deal. They had 2 fresh oysters for about $10 and saw Kazu san prepare it and will be my "to do" list next time.

Great small/family owned sushi restaurant. High quality for price sushi. I got the bronco and spicy tuna both were delicious. Will be back my office is right around the corner!

While the food is very tasty I have to give Kazu three stars. The restaurant was busy on a Friday afternoon for lunch but it was extremely hot inside and the two waitresses were overwhelmed. My friend and I ordered the 'Employee Special' that is listed on a board as you enter the restaurant but not on the menu. When I asked the waitress about it she was confused. It took 15 minutes for the first order to arrive only for the sushi chef to ask 'Did you order one or two?' When we replied two they were polite but it took another 10 minutes for the second order. To the good stuff... The salad had a tangy ginger dressing. Just plain iceberg lettuce with a few carrots but par for a Japanese side salad. The employee special came with a spicy tuna shrimp tempura roll, 3 piece tuna wrapped in cucumber, 3 piece takoyaki, 1 crab, 1 scallop & one salmon. Very reasonable for $13.50 Will try again but not a stellar dining experience.

Kazu, the owner, is the sweetest old man you'll ever meet and watching him pour his heart and soul into the sushi is a unique experience. The fish is always so fresh and delicious. You can taste the passion and know you're not only getting the value but supporting a small local business. This spot is a must if you love traditional sushi and appreciate dedication. Simple, fresh, straight forward sushi!

THE BEST SUSHI PLACE IN COLORADO BY FAR!! My family and I have eaten sushi all over Colorado and Sushi Kazu is hands down the freshest, most delicious place to get sushi. Their rolls are always so fresh and the service is outstanding. Kazu puts places like Hapa and Sushi Den to shame. They do not even compare. Kazu's Bronco roll is one of the best rolls we have ever tried...ever. It will melt in your mouth! The prices are unbeatable as well! If you live in Colorado and want the best sushi, you must go to Sushi Kazu!!
(5)David B.
A great bet for quality, reasonably priced sushi. The Nigiri rolls are good sized with thick cuts, and the specialty rolls are pretty large too. The restaurant is ran by a real Japanese sushi chef, and the food displays impressive skill. I personally love the atmosphere. A small, casual shop with Kazu-san working behind the sushi bar and a few waitresses helping him out. Feels like I'm in Japan. Prices are very reasonable and happy hour is about 10-20% off regular prices. My only complaint is that on my most recent visit, a few of my Nigiri orders were a little cold, as if the fish hasn't spent enough time getting off the ice. I will give them the benefit of the doubt because I walked in the minute their doors opened for the day. Overall, Sushi Kazu is an under the radar gem that more sushi fans need to know about.
(4)Lily P.
Was on vacation and craving good sushi. Found Sushi Kazu on Yelp and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered pick up and they were happy to create off the menu rolls per request. Even with a low key exterior, the small but warm sushi restaurant was packed (on a Thursday). The chef waited to make one of the rolls until we arrived to make sure he was using the right ingredients. Very friendly staff. Feel like we stumbled onto a local gem

My rating is an average of food quality, service and order accuracy Food quality - Three stars (note my grading system below) I ordered three items to go tonight - 1) Rainbow Roll - actually pretty tasty combination of fish and avocado rilled in rice paper - I'd order it again 2) Wakame Salad - turned out to be a combination seaweed and cucumber salad - hard to go wrong with this one - they measured up on the wakame, on the cucumber was bland with no sauce at all - give it a miss. 3) Saba Nigiri - would love to have commented on this, however was conspicuously missing from my order when I got back to the hotel with it. Note- they gave more than enough soy sauce and wasabi - you won't have to ask for more Service - three stars - Was met promptly, offered a place at the sushi bar and my order taken once I'd filled out the form. The restaurant was about 30% full so not at all busy (7:00PM on a Wednesday night) Pleasant, attentive staff. Order accuracy - one star Completely missed a part of my order - might have been recoverable if I was dining in, on a to-go order a complete failure. Overall assessment - two stars Rating system 1) I wouldn't feed a dog I hated here 2) I'll give it a miss 3) Good food - I'll definitely go again 4) Really good - I'll recommend to business colleagues and connoisseurs of this cuisine 5) Completely worth a trip - I'd book airplane and hotels to go there again.
(2)Nicole L.
We ate for the first time at sushi kazu tonight after living 5 minutes away for the last 5 years. If I had known this gem was nearby, I would have been by at least once a week. My husband and I had our first sushi 20 years ago at nobu in ny. We have been to many sushi restaurants since in my venerable locations but this was by far the best and most unexpected. Thank you sushi kazu! You are a gem!
(5)Greg J.
Awesome sushi from a real Japanese sushi chef! Super white tuna and hamachi were perfect. Definitely recommend this place! I lived in Japan and love good sushi.
(5)Elisa C.
My family and I absolutely love this place. Have been here about 4 times and it never fails. We even brought along a very picky eater one time and he loved it as well. The soups and sushi rolls are delicious and great display. The service is good, although it could be better. I've had to wait a bit on drinks and what not but nothing too big. Please leave room for the Moshi icecream as a desert! It is divine!! Overall great place.
(5)Jen W.
I could eat here everyday. Chef Kazu is wonderfully skilled and the service is always very attentive and courteous. If I go a month without visiting it feels as if something is missing in life. *sigh* Lunch specials are always a great deal and they make dinner feel like an intimate experience. Highly recommend! Go now!

My friend's favorite sushi is Sushi Kazu. So when I get the chance to meet her, she told me she wants to go to Sushi Kazu. Ahh.. I have been to this establishment before. That faithful day for Lunch and recent visit was on Thursday March 7th 2013. Time was about 12:40hrs. At that time, this establishment was still packed with the Lunch-goers. We managed to get the seats at the Sushi Bar, the exact area which Hubs and I was many MOONs ago to Sushi Kazu. Yes, the Sushi Chefs are friendly, smilling... every single time each customers/patrons comes and finishes their meal. This time around the servers who assists us are much more inviting and welcoming. Z and her 2 year old son, I guess are regulars here and somehow the servers know Z and her son so well enough... Its not easy having a 2 year old along.. so at least the servers tend to "entertain" Z's son. After some patrons left, we decide to move ourselves to the booth seating in which is more comfortable. Initially, I wanted to order the Uni and Amaebi, but our server mentioned that they do not offer those that day. *Sad Face* *Big Bummer* Oh Well... From what I could recall these were the items I ordered for Lunch : * Fresh Water Eel Nigiri ($4.85) * Japanese Omelette Nigiri/Sushi ($3.30) * Spicy Octopus Sushi ($4.10) * Green Mussels ($4.95) * Magic Mushrooms ($7.95) While Z opt for the Sashimi and Tempura ($8.90) and Juice ($1.75) for her son. The food to be ready at our table took abit or a while. In which, I am ok for that coz for one, I am not in a rush, but still.. it felt like eternity. I was so hungry... So when the food came, so far its A-OK. The portion of the rice is smaller, compared to the proteins or whatever they put on the rice. I am OK for that too. Thankfully the Magic Mushrooms and Green Mussels came out hot, I like. Still curious about the Magic Mushrooms, though... If I am not mistaken it comes with Crab, Avocado, Cream Cheese with Seaweed and Spicy Sauce - FRIED, I like, double like... The rest of Nigiri was just A-OK too, though I so wish to have more of the Spicy Octopus Nigiri/Sushi. All in all this recent visit was just A-OK, though I cant deny the servers took their precious time to assist my friend Z. At least Z get to finish her lunch that day. Our Lunch was about $45 with tips and tax. Decent Lunch option since it was NOT my pick, nothing stellar nothing fancy. Left Sushi Kazu almost at 14:00hrs and we were the last patron dining there before Sushi Kazu shut down, prep and rest before Dinner time opening hours. @51/2013

Awesome sushi! Hole in the wall strip mall atmosphere but don't be scared. The chef/owner is a master. Check the specials to see what's outside the menu too.
(4)Jamie S.
Great service, fresh sushi, and you can't best the happy hour prices on Sunday's! This is our favorite place when a sushi craving hits us. (I just can't wait until I'm not pregnant anymore so I can get my fix!) We love this place :)

I had high expectations coming in to try this place, given all the glowing reviews that I read here. And having lived for a decade in Los Angeles before moving to Denver, I was also excited to read that other former L.A. residents approved of Sushi Kazu. Sadly, my experiences did not measure up to the hype. The service was excellent, but the food was lacking. The fish was somewhat mealy, and I bit down on what appeared to be either a piece of plastic or a fish scale in one of the rolls. The rainbow rolls I ordered were not sliced all the way through, so I had to pull the pieces apart with my hand (since it's not really something you can do with chopsticks), and the rolls began to fall apart the more pieces I ate -- kind of like the pieces were being held together by the force of will of the entire order, but the more I ate, they just gave up and came apart on the plate. The Great Sushi Questâ„¢ continues for me.
(3)Antonio A.
This place is seriously amazing. It's insane that there isn't an option for a higher star amount just for this restaurant. I've had wasabi that's across the street and I think this place is far superior. The price is excellent, service is quick, and the staff are all friendly. The sushi chef also helps out with delivering food if you're sitting at the bar. Not to mention that the food is phenomenal! Definitely coming back frequently!
(5)Rebecca M.
Rarely if ever do I even want to review a place when I am on a business trip, but I feel I have to say something about this place. Eat here. Having lived in Japan and hailing from the LA area I am very picky about my sushi. This is some of the best I have had. Period. The decor is nothing to write home about, however I have found the best places for sushi put most of their money into good fish then matching fancy plates. Their rolls are solid and their nigiri is superb. Chef Kazu takes as much pride in his sushi as he does his customers. If my travels ever bring me back to Denver, I know this will be on the top of my list of places to eat. I mean, I have never liked a place so much that I reviewed it while still eating. Now if you will excuse me, my maguro is calling my name.
(4)Ryan B.
I have been coming to sushi kazu for more than 10 years. I think it is the Best sushi in Denver. The chef is amazing. The atmosphere is cozy. I especially love the dragon roll.
(5)Marie C.
I've been here many times and only once have I had a bad experience. I wouldn't even say bad. Just slow service. The sushi is great value, tasty, fresh and priced very well. It is my go to anytime I'm having a craving. My statement about this place is simple, the most underrated place around.
(4)Inna U.
Pretty good place. Food is delicious. All you can eat....pay extra if you can't eat it all though. Would be great place if it weren't for the rude staff..some are nice..some are so rude though.
(3)Pascale C.
Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Sometimes fast, sometimes painfully slow. Used to be much better. I stopped going there after waiting several time over 40mjn for my lunch...
(2)Whitney W.
My boyfriend and I have been here this would be our 5th time. Everytime we get the volcano roll or I de believe it is the baked roll with spicy scallops and it is AMAZING! This place is definitely a random hole in the wall as I call them. Anyone in the area needs to come here. The service is always the best. We walked in at 9:40 and they closed at 10 as I was CRAVING sushi and they were more than willing to serve us. We have had nothing but great service and I think the owner of the place is always there and always more than willing to make anything for us. Thank You Sushi Kazu as we will continue to come back. The only thing I wish is that there loyalty card was more efficient. Again thanks!
(5)Anson H.
This place is a gem! Delicious sushi and a delightful staff make for a must visit! You get a genuine Japanese sushi chef and reasonable priced menu. What more do you need? The location is deceptive... My wife and I lived nearby for close to two years before we tried this place... What a mistake! Unlike trendy or better known sushi bars, here you rarely have to wait. We're hooked! It's our secret go-to sushi place.
(5)Ruth C.
We enjoyed our second visit here. The sushi was fresh and it was nice eating there where the chef and staff were Japanese. It gave it an authentic, rare flare to it. They made our order one item at a time, which was different than what we were used to...but it gave us an opportunity to enjoy each selection more thoroughly and ensured each one was truly 'fresh' when we ate it. The place was packed...even on a night where it had started snowing out. So even though it is not near us, we will likely continue to make the trek out there!
(3)Barbi P.
Shhh....if we all keep writing such good reviews everyone else is going to find out about this place and we wont be able to get a table! I have driven by hundreds of times and said "oh sushi we should try that" but strip mall sushi never really draws me in. I even once had the owner of a popular sushi restaurant in Colorado tell me his favorite place was here but I just never put the two together and realized this was the place. Once I did we ran over and never regretted it. It is small and not your flashy sushi joint. It is in fact in an older strip mall and it looks like you would expect. It is small but there is a good chunk of sushi bar seats. The menu sounded delicious so we ordered a crap ton of sushi and waited. Everything was really good. Usually when I try a new sushi place I order a roll that I really wish I hadn't but that didn't happen here. My only complaint is that the rolls all fell apart way too easy. I am a bit mystified because clearly the chef knew how to make sushi and knew how to make sushi well and sushi that falls apart more of a beginners problem. The quality of the sushi really made it falling apart not a big deal. It all found its way into my mouth that is for sure. One thing I also really liked was the waitress made fun of my boyfriend. I know it sounds strange but I often find that I don't get a lot of personality out of sushi waitresses. I don't know if it is a cultural thing or something else but they are usually pretty down to business. The waitress here had some spunk and I really enjoyed it. By far the best part was when our bill came and the total for 3 people was slightly less than what we usually spend on two. The combination of yummy sushi, good value and it's hidden gem status left me literally saying "We should go back there again soon" about 20 times in the next 48 hours. Speaking of...I am really hungry...I should go back there.

Sushi Kazu has been a favorite of my girlfriend and I for quite some time. Shame on me for taking so long to finally announce to the world that this sushi restaurant has the most consistently great food and service of any sushi places around. We have been here at least 5 times and every single time, they rock! This last time we visited, I expected it to test their patience, as it was 9:40pm and they closed at 10pm. When I walked in and asked if we could still be served, they warmly welcomed us with excitement to have us in their establishment. We always see the same faces behind the sushi bar and serving tables, which tells me they must like it there. The pricing is very reasonable! We always get a "Volcano" roll which is a baked roll topped off with a bay scallop! Perfect temperature and flavor. They even have a loyalty card that you can use to earn a free meal! This sushi place is a staple for us and we will always consider them when craving sushi! They have a sticker on the door that says "yelpers love us" (or something like that), and BOY IS THAT TRUE!!! I love Sushi Kazu! If you read those last two sentences, I rhymed! :)
(5)Annie B.
Well, I broke my promise. It has been over a year since I ventured over to this side of town. However, I made it back for another dose of sushi bliss! Kazu-san instantly recognized me when I walked in and warmly greeted me, in Japanese. I am impressed that even though I only make it in about once a year now, he still remembers me. Back when I was a regular, he taught me a little Japanese. I was glad that I was able to dig up a few sentences from my memory and compliment his sushi skills. As per usual, I ordered one of the lunch specials and a spicy scallop hand roll. When I turned in my order, Kazu remembered my fondness for Kampachi (I hope I spelled it right!) which is baby Amber Jack aka Yellowtail. He tempted me by telling me he had some in stock. I couldn't resist an order of that as well. It was just as wonderful as I had remembered. Thick and juicy cuts of super fresh fish that danced on my tongue. Every bite melted in my mouth. It was fantastic! I absolutely love this place. It's sad that it's on the opposite side of town from my current job so I can't make it over here for lunch more often. I want to send a shout out to all of my fellow sushi fans in the area and let you all know how amazing this place is! Please come check it out!
(5)Anna H.
I guess I expected too much... I wanted to give 5 stars but I can't. I don't understand why this place has high review. I came here for a date with my husband for dinner. It was happy hour sushi time so nigiri sushis were around $2 a peace. Affordable? Not really. We ordered Miso soup, Edamame, Tempura, lots of sushi and couple rolls. Edamame seemed like it wasn't cooked enough so bit hard. Miso soup was ok. Tempura had too much coating. Sushi rice wasn't good. (cheap rice, maybe?) Rolls were loose so crumbled when I try to eat. ( I really hate loose rolls! ) Overall, The quality of food was poor. Maybe they were spoiled by people who doesn't know true "Japanese food". As a Japanese, I want them to try harder to make great Japanese food.
(2)Mike I.
I've passed this place daily on my way to and from the office and always told myself that I should try it. Someone had recommended it to the wife recently as well. We try to have sushi every couple of weeks so we finally stopped in. From the outside you might have hesitations however once inside it's actually quite cozy, somewhat small but a nice sushi bar. We had a nice variety of rolls, gyoze, hand rolls and such. All of it was very fresh and the hand rolls were amazing. My recommendation would the the spicy tuna hand roll. The gyoza was perfect, seared just right. The wait staff was very attentive and how cool is it to have the owner Kazu actually whipping up all the sushi. As mentioned in a few other reviews, the rolls aren't very tight and can fall apart if you don't give it that extra squeeze with your chopsticks. So, don't be fooled by the outside appearance. Stop in and try it.
(4)Katie W.
The sushi here was excellent -- very fresh and great selection (fish and rolls). The also appear to have a good lunch menu. Great option for this part of town.
(4)Joe H.
Sushi quality is excellent but they are ill equipped to handle the lunch crowd. Only 1 sushi chef to serve 30 people, all of whom arrived at the same time. Obviously pieces of my order were forgotten, etc. What they lack in service they do make up for in quality of food, however.
(3)Rose A.
Sushi was delicious, service was nice even though they forgot about my volcano appetizer. Our server gave extra punches on the punch card they provide since my friends finished their meal without my food coming out. I will visit Sushi Kazu again!
(4)David H.
I'm back!! We've been patronizing Kazu San's restaurant for the last three days. The only difference is that we a new face for waitresses. Kind and gentle service. Each of the last three days, we tried various rolls and nigiri. Of all my visits, I have been delighted with everything he prepares. I had them make us a new trendy item called the "Mexican Roll" and wow, was that good. I gave him the directions on how to make one and he came through with flying colors. I have eaten at several of the other restaurants in the area and I seem to always come back to Kazu!! I have yet to try his Udon dishes. -Denver Dave.
(5)Cassandra F.
From the outside this place is very unassuming. Never would have guessed the food would be as good as it was. My husband was in the mood for sushi lunch, so we stopped in here and really enjoyed it. The fish is really fresh, and the rolls were pretty innovative and tasty. The restaurant itself is fairly small, but well decorated. And the service was very friendly. Great place for a sushi lunch.

This is one of the best, if not the best sushi I've ever had. And i live in Manhattan, we have a lot of sushi places.

I initially reviewed Sushi Kazu via another review board and thought I would drop in my 5 stars since Yelp is the place to be and Kazu deserves the kudos. I have been coming here since the grand opening, maybe...8-10 years ago. I am originally from San Francisco, so I want to say "I know good sushi"... that is until you Colorado folks surprise us with Sushi Den (GOOD STUFF). Now I know this is a Sushi Kazu review, but I had to establish the history and experience of my taste buds. Now, as other reviewers have pointed out- this is in a strip mall so dont expect anything fancier than a Racoon, wearing a boyscout outfit with what looks to be his goods hanging out (gotta love authentic Japanese artwork)... there are some really pretty silk looking paintings, next to an autographed picture of the Broncos cheerleading squad. Obviously Kazu is spending his money on the food! Sushi is fresh, and the magic mushroom roll is AWESOME when I feel like indulging in some salmon/ mushroom/ spicy mayo goodness. But 9 times out of ten we order the following: Red Dragon roll- Kind of like a cali roll with tuna and avo on top Spicy tuna handroll (Add seaweed salad- YUM) Unagi Bronco roll Tiger Eye- I dont know if this is on other sushi menus-- it is VERY interesting and we dont order it every time, but it is a sushi roll wrapped in what I believe is squid. Last and certainly not the least, the ultimate reason for my review, the reason I keep coming back is for an off-menu roll. it is called the Fancy Roll. it used to be on the menu but has been gone for many years now. This is my go-to roll when i am trying to get into summer-shape. This roll has about 7 different fish and it is wrapped in cucumber with NO RICE -- I told kazu to call it the Atkins roll, but my marketing idea just didnt translate. Good stuff and the perfect roll if you are just coming in for lunch. kazu is always nice and my daughter loves the "RAMUNE" soda, in an old school glass soda pop container. It is Japanese soda that is still sealed with a marble and where I believe the "POP" in soda pop comes from since you have to POP the marble out of its seal to enjoy the tasty libation. This place is casual, but I cant say I recommend Kazu for young kids. We have a 4 year old and they do not have coloring books/ crayons or milk and we would need to order off of the appetizer menu, since there is no kid menu. I will say, however, we have a VERY picky eater and I have never seen him eat so much than the time we ordered the Chicken Karage appetizer. It is basically fried chicken fingers... but they use dark meat chicken instead of the breast. While we would pay Sushi Den prices to come here, thankfully we dont have to. It is cheap enough that my fiance and I can enjoy sushi Kazu at least once per week and if you are careful you can always find rolls that wont stretch the waistline. While some of the sauces and menu items may change, the quality and friendly atmosphere seem to keep getting better. Much of the staff has been around since the beginning and if you find yourself in nothing better than a pair of flip flops and a hankering for some BOMB-*SS sushi-- stop by, you wont be disappointed.

Sushi Kazu offers the best lunchtime sushi this far South of the city.
(4)Michael H.
Not sure I would drive 20+ miles to get here, but if you are at Centennial Airport this is a "must stop" for those who like sushi, especially when you arrive on a 5-7PM flight and the traffic is jammed in south Denver. Stop here and enjoy this oasis of pleasurable food. Very limited wine list is a negative, but beers and sake make up for it. Fish is fresh. We arrived just before 6PM during happy hour and loved the low prices, good service, low key atmosphere, and innovative menu. Try it when you fly out of or into Centennial airport, you will like it especially if you are looking for good food at an unassuming location and very fair prices. If you prefer glitz and glamour (along with potentially an hour wait), continue on north to Sushi Den on South Pearl Street, a favorite sushi restaurant of ours, where you will pay double to dine with "the beautiful people."
(4)Anna K.
This place is the most similar to the stellar sushi that I have had only in California. Every part of the roll is fresh and flavorful. Sushi is my favorite food and I have tried a lot in Colorado, but this place is definitely a step above the rest. Give it a try and you will NOT be disappointed.
(5)Jessica J.
We came across this place by accident, but were pleasantly surprised! The sushi was amazing. Looking at prices, my first thought was this place was pricey, but once the rolls came I understood why...The rolls were probably the most generous in size compared to every other sushi place we've yet to try. Very rich in flavor as well. The staff was very nice and attentive. Upon leaving we also received a punch card, to bring back with us for next visits. Overall we very much enjoyed our visit!
(4)Mark And Amanda O.
Sushi Kazu is our favorite sushi restaurant in the DTC area. The rolls are the best in town. Service can be slow at times but it is worth the wait. Very highly recommended.
(4)Alex M.
This is one of the best sushi places I have found in Colorado. I'm from LA so I'm used to good, fresh sushi. Sushi kazu I would recommend to anyone. The prices are amazing, the quality is great, the sushi combinations are on par and the service is very friendly. I would have given this place 5 stars because the food is so good, however, the ambiance is pretty mediocre and average, and I would have to give the ambiance 3 stars. Other than that, this place is a MUST for sushi lovers.
(4)Brian A.
Great fish! Fish melts in your mouth. It's fresh and delicious. Service a little slow but it's run by a very friendly Japanese couple and the prices are relatively low. To reiterate, great food!

Stopped in here at the recommendation of a good friend and was not disappointed! Loved the selection of fish and the freshness was top-notch.

Good and fresh sushi although some rolls are so large they are difficult to eat. Very authentic Japanese food. Simple decor and nice atmosphere. My 10 year old picky eater son didn't have any "non-Japanese" choices but he liked the rice.

I don't eat sushi often, but I love it and this is one of my favorite places. Everything I've had here has been superb! They get pretty busy at lunchtime so service can be a little bit slow, but so worth it. And they are so nice. Yummy!

Decent place to go, try it during happy hour for the best prices. Mr. Kazu is very personable and provide excellent service. The green tea is good too and has a cozy feel. Not the best sushi but is above average.

Great sushi and great staff. Prices are the same as any good sushi place and the food is great.

Nice place and very delicious food. Like this sushi place. Went with family last Sunday. Was impressed with quality and comfort environment.

If I could give zero stars, I would. We had a very disappointing meal and service. When we walked in, we were greeted and seated. Something seemed weird and after our meal, I think I know why they had that deer in the headlight look when they saw us. They were surprised to see Japanese customers coming into this Sushi restaurant in Denver. We were the only Asian customers in the restaurant and I think I know why. We ordered a Futomaki roll, the Sashimi Plate and the Yakiniku which is described in the menu as a Japanese BBQ Beef. I'm thinking it's going to be like Kalbi. Something that looks like this on Wiki. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ya… . Well... the first indication this was going to be bad was the Futomaki. If you are in any legit Japanese sushi restaurant, Futomaki will not have avocado and imitation crab meat salad. It will have egg, bamboo, either cucumber or spinich and a light dusting of small fish roe. This Futomaki was a combination of Futomaki and California Roll. The roll also wasn't wrapped tight and everything fell out when you pick up a slice with sticks. The next plate to arrive was my BBQ beef. Well... it didn't look anything like I expected. It looked like sliced beef in a gravy. The beef appeared to be steamed. There was no carmelization on the meat from a BBQ type cooking. It was served on top of some leafy steamed vegetables like Bok Choy. I had no idea what that was. I ate one piece of the beef and was chewy and had no BBQ type aura. I sent it back and asked for something different. The manager told me I can't send it back if it's not what I expected, so she expected me to take it and pay for it. I told her to take it away because I was not going to eat it. About 5 minutes later, my sisters Sashimi plate arrives. It had about 3 pieces of tuna, yellowtail, salmon with lemon on it???, and a couple other items. I took one of the tuna and dipped it in my soy wasabi mix and ate it. It had a water flavor to it which is typical for a frozen tuna. The yellowtail also had the watery flavor. The salmon with the lemon on it must makes me think it's a bad piece of fish being covered with lemons. We just asked for our bill. The bill was $44.90. I left $45 cash and left. They said thank you for coming and I just said it was very disappointing. I believe this place is not a legit Japanese restaurant. I think they are catering to the majority of Denver which is Non-Asian. If you're Japanese and in Denver, just start the meal with a futomaki roll and nothing else. If the futomaki has avocado and imitation crab, just leave. Don't try the other part of the menu. You will be disappointed like we were today.

I have been getting my sushi fix here for quite awhile now. Kazu-san (owner) always gives a friendly greeting and even commented that my family and I hadn't been in for awhile. (being laid-off really puts a damper on eating out) Sashimi is some of the freshest in Denver and the slice is generous. The rolls are flavorful and rice to ingredients ratio is spot on. Prices are reasonable for the quality of food and the atmosphere is always cheery and relaxing. Give it a try, you won't regret it.

We came from California Los Angeles and after a week we were craving genuine Japanese food. We read the reviews on Yelp! and gave Sushi Kazu a try and we were not disappointed. The food was very genuine and pricing was reasonable. I will definitely go there again a couple more times before we leave.

Okay udon...good sushi though I think they could have been rolled a bit tighter. They fell apart when I picked them up.

Just tried this place for the first time. Normally, for local Centennial sushi I'll hit up Samurai, but now I have another local favorite! I ordered to go and when I arrived to pick up my food, i added another roll from the specials on the wall to my order because it sounded really good, the Vegas roll. The staff had no problem with this and a few minutes later, i was on my way. In all my wife and I had a bowl of miso soup each, a Philadelphia roll, a Crazy roll, a Rainbow roll and the Vegas roll and they were all really good. Some of the pieces are really big as stated in some of the other reviews, but that's not really a hassle for me. The only thing that bothered me was that 2 of our rolls kept coming apart. It's worth it for you to try, especially if you happen to be nearby. Fresh, affordable and friendly staff. I'll be back.

*****GLASS IN FOOD!!!***** I actually found a 3/4in piece of glass in one of my sushi rolls. I called up to report the issue and they said "thanks for calling". I ended up arguing with the hostess and she offered me one free roll. This was not a hair, or a bug, it was a very dangerous piece of glass that could have really hurt someone. Both the hostess and manager seemed unconcerned, and unsympathetic about nearly injuring someone. I hate the think what would have happened if this was actually swallowed. They did not even apologize but simply said "we cannot see the glass so how do we know you are telling us the truth?". Can't say I recommend this place to anyone.

Man... this place rocks! We got a bronco roll, red dragon roll and a couple different pieces of sushi. All and all, an excellent lunch - we went a touch later (around 1:05) and were able to avoid the big lunch rush.

We love Kazu, the sushi chef at Sushi Kazu. He is this little old Japanese man who owns the restaurant. That being said, when we belly up to the sushi bar, Kazu serves us delicious FRESH fish with a smile and a great sense of humor. The rolls at the restaurant are great, especially the Kazu roll. We also have had lots of fun meeting other people who are enjoying their dinner also. If you are a true sushi connoisseur go for the uni and the super white tuna. We enjoy the food as much as we enjoy Kazu and his company.

I walked in there with a few friends during our lunch break. The place was crowded. Did that mean the food was good? Or was it just because it was lunch time near offices? Probably the latter. No one seated us so we found seats ourselves. The crowd quickly cleared out and we were the last customers served. You'd expect the service to pick up at that point, but it quickly deteriorated. The service was terrribly slow, making us late. The waitress took forever to take our orders and did not check on us afterward when we ran out of water. There was only 1 sushi chef and he took his sweet time preparing our food. Despite the delay, the food did not even come out at the same time so I waited while my friends dug in. The waitress could not get my friend's order right. My friend asked for an avocado cucumber roll with cream cheese. The waitress wrote it down and half an hour later, she brought back 2 pieces of "avocado sushi" without cucumber or cream cheese. Whatever happened to the roll?. Instead of apologizing she just said, "you order sushi, this is avocado sushi". We were baffled. My friend was irritated but let it slide and ate her avocado for lunch. The sushi tasted fine, despite the unfortunate service. EDIT: I have returned to this establishment several times, since it is conveniently located, and the service was much better. The chefs (2 of them) are friendly and humorous. I think it's better to dine here when there isn't a crowd. Overall the food is good considering the moderate price.

The three stars could be four but really that is not the important thing. Service was fast and efficient. Fish was fresh and tasty. Sushi came quickly and was good. The only reason that I give it 3 instead of 4 is that the sushi rolls had some issues that anyone who has been eating sushi all their life would notice...The balance of fish to roll was a little off and usually I wouldn't mind more fish but it was a little much. The rolls were not rolled very tight thus they fell apart very quickly. However these are nit picky things and overall this is a good sushi place that serves up fresh fish, which is pretty much one of the most important things when it comes to sushi. Oh I should note that they prepare gioza perfectly...Steamed with a sear. This is a must!

Caterpillar roll is awesome. Excellent overall. Kazu makes all the sushi himself. Very friendly.

Very small place but wonderful sushi. Plus the owner is a great guy.

This is a great little sushi bar that you might miss (it's down a slight hill in a strip mall off Arapahoe and Peoria) but it's definitely worth a try. The sushi chef, Kazu, always has a smile on his face and the whole seating area (including the tables) feels like an extension of the sushi bar. The staff is friendly and I've always gotten great service. The sushi menu is simple but very fresh and authentic. I particularly recommend the Kazu-roll (it's not on the menu, you have to write it in) as well as their hand rolls. If you're eating at a table, you get the whole thing at once but they serve the sushi bar one roll at a time on small plates. Make sure to save room for their plum tempura ice cream! They also doing a great take-out business if you need it to go. Highly recommend.

Sushi is so much about presentation and the presentation was not very good compared to other sushi joints I've been to. While the sushi chef is a very nice man who constantly checks on those at the sushi bar, a couple pieces of my California Roll were scrunched up. The sashimi was flat and overly long unlike sashimi I've had at other sushi restaurants. (making it more difficult to eat) Additionally, the wasabi was a bit mushier and less rigid than I've come to expect. The quality of the fish was decent, and the prices are nice--especially the specials for lunch and I'm guessing dinner. I'd probably give it a 2 star rating based on the textual comments for each rating, but I feel 2 stars is more of a bad review and this place isn't bad. It's just alright.

O.M.G. out of ALL the sushi restaurants I've been to, this one definitely makes my top 5 places!!! The chef/owner is extremely friendly. You can definitely tell he loves what he does! He has THE BEST Sushi combinations I have ever had and still I cannot find any like his!! The staff is very warm and welcoming and also very attentive. Try it and you will love it!

We went here on a weeknight. It was quiet and the server was attentive. The avocado rolls and the california rolls are very tasty.

I'd have rated this last experience a 1 star, but that wouldn't be fair to my previous 3 lunches at Sushi Kazu. I was moved to write this review because I was absolutely embarrassed I talked two friends into lunching there. We were appalled by our waitress's inattentiveness, the shrimp tempura was undercooked, and the spider roll was like any other. ...Not in a good way. I'd like to change this review, we'll see. When I emailed them at info@sushikazu.com , I got a failed delivery response from an alias. I've since attempted to contact Andres via another address Google found. Until I hear back from them/him, I must assume that the economy has effected S.K.'s bottom line enough so their quality has suffered. On the positive side, the sushi chefs waved a friendly hello.

What a pleasure to have an authentic Japanese restaurant in the heart of Centennial! Actually, it's v. close to the Centennial airport and seems to be a favorite with those flying in and out. Every time we have been there, Kazu is making sushi magic behind the counter. He and his sushi chefs graciously take a few minutes to engage with customers. Kazu sushi has a v. friendly atmosphere. I love that the sushi is v. fresh, and also enjoy the cooked dishes such as eel and tempura. A hidden treasure in Centennial.

I am a big sushi/sashimi eater, and I have to say that this place was just "okay," definitely not going back there though. We had our usual - tuna, salmon, unagi, ebi (for my husband), and some rolls. (spider roll, hot spicy tuna roll and lobster roll) Tuna was cut a little thin for me, salmon was okay... we really like halibut nigiri, but they didn't have that. I did not like their hand rolls, we regretted that we ordered them. Too mushy and too much avocado. Service was fair, although the server didn't seem too happy to be there. Maybe a little bit of smile would have made a different experience for us. It was just really close to our house so we decided to try, and after all, I must say "when you want some good sushi, drive a little farther and go to sushi den."

Not the best sushi I've ever had but still very good and satisfying. I absolutely love eel and usually when I eat sushi I'm always left wishing I had more eel but this time I definitely left full and happy. I didn't like that one of my rolls was wrapped using cucumber instead of seaweed but I suppose you could just write that off as personal preference. I think the only thing that really bothered me was the tanuki doll sitting right in front of my face at the sushi bar where we sat haha
(4)Lorie P.
Great little sushi place with good variety of rolls. Friend sushi chefs at a good price.
(4)Marie N.
First time here and loved it! I would have given 5 stars but the service is a tad bit slow. If you're in a rush I recommend calling ahead to pick up your order and go.
(4)Luisa M.
This is my favorite sushi place in all of Denver, and I've tried a lot of sushi places in Denver! It's this cool whole-in-the-wall place in this tucked away strip mall...and that's where the normality ends. Once you step into the restaurant you're transported to the coolest authentic spot ever! ;-) Their spicy tuna is amazing, yellowtail and spicy salmon - forget about it!
(5)Christina M.
A wonderful sushi bar wrapped in an unassuming building/complex. The staff was excellent, quick, and friendly. The sushi chefs seemed to have fun while creating their masterpieces. The sushi was some of the best I have had-and was a very reasonable price and had a ton of different types of sushi to chose from! I would highly recommend this place if you are a fan or sushi or would like to try sushi for the first time.
(5)Megan W.
Meh, it's okay. They don't have a really good bento box, which is what I look for in a lunchy-japanese place. Their sushi is good, waitstaff is okay. Nothing stellar.
(3)Elva L.
One of the best I ever had. Small cozy warm feeling sushi place. Good for family events or even dating. The owner Kazu Sung is the nicest guy ever and he made the best sushi n the world. Fresh fish, decent price, great presentation, and clean! 5 star!!!!
(5)Daniel M.
Let me start by saying I've been a HUGE Kazu fan for 8 years. I used to lived down the street and I was mostly addicted. The last few times this year that I've eaten here, the rice has been less than desirable. It has turned out to be more of a bland rice paste by the time it's rolled and served. Very disappointing. With that said, the other ingredients are excellent, including the hand rolls which use less rice. Others have suggested the spicy scallop roll. I agree, excellent! The gyoza is good, and any fish you get there is obviously fresh and tasty. This would be a five star rating if not for the pasty rice that I've had recently.

So you're out east on Arapahoe Rd thinking, "it's south of the Tech Center and all the restaurants are named Burger-this and Taco-that. So where the hell am I going to get some fresh food for a quick lunch?" And then I see a sushi place . . . Sushi Kazu in a strip shop line-up. Now a sushi place in Centennial is kinda like a steakhouse in Berkeley, way outta place. But there are no other choices unless you think something called a "Southwest Salad" from Mickey D's qualifies as "fresh food." I go in, deciding not to order the fugu blow fish if it's on the menu, but to otherwise give it a chance. Ahhhh, grasshopper. Wise, you have made, the decision. Good, very. The slices, fresh, thick. Specials, creative. Delicious. Prices, moderate. Chefs, kindly and Japanese, ah yes. Return? All week. Every day, good. Wise the decision, indeed. Go, you. Fan, I am.

Almost cliche - really good sushi in a strip mall. I am a fan.
