Huge portions, friendly service, odd space. This El Senor Sol used to be a Southwestern Crafts place, I believe. Located on the other side of Arapahoe from The Streets of Southglenn, this link the local chain serves basic Mexican fare. We had appetizers: Chicken Quesadilla and the Chile con Queso with Chorizo. The Queso had a great spice, and comes close to the standard Texas style I've learned to love. The Quesadilla just just OK. For a quick drop-in, with no expectations, this place hits the mark!

Probably the best Mexican food I have had in the south metro so far, but thats not saying much coming from Texas with all the options we had there. But if mediocre Mexican food is the only price to pay to live in this awesome place I will gladly pay it! Had the burrito supreme with carnitas....licked the plate clean but I was hungry too. Wife and son had the chicken fajitas...pretty good. They made my wife a custom margarita after the 1st one was too sweet, good service. Menu says they charge $2 for extra chips and salsa but I forgot to check my bill to see if they did, I don't think so. Probably trying to keep the kids out of there who don't order or share plates and gobble up baskets of the stuff. Service was great, very attentive. Now if we could only get a Lupe Tortilla or Pappasito's to open here.......oh to dream.

Eh, not that good. Really 2 and a half stars. Not really worth the money in my opinion. I had the El Senior Sol Enchiladas. Seeing how the dish was named after the restaurant I assumed it was their signature enchilada dish. It came automatically with ground beef, which on a side note, is not the best filling for enchiladas, why not just go with beef fajita? Anywho...the corn tortillas were chewy and not cooked all the way, the ground beef was not even grocery store quality (dog food maybe?), the sauce was bland, the cheese was standard flavorless yellow guvment cheese, the lettuce & tomato on top were half ass'd, etc, etc. not impressed. The plate came out 2 mins after ordering it, was it under a heat lamp before I even walked in? It wasn't slop, but wasn't anything I would feel the need to go back to this place for. I would come back if someone else was paying and bought me a margarita. It had a decent atmosphere... The plate and iced tea + tip brought me to $17. Wasn't worth it for me. Coulda spent that money on something better.

The food was good but the service is very slow. The portion was very small for the price. I got the fajita burrito for 13. It seems like a big plate but the burrito was pretty flat without much chicken and peppers inside. If you don't mind the price for the portion the taste was actually pretty good.

This place is just awesome! We used to come pretty regularly, but haven't since my last review. We were greeted with, "Hey, good to see you!" and our waitress even remembered our order! They are so friendly here and the food is delicious. Best Mexican food we've found in Denver (from Texas originally). Thanks again for a great experience!

I love, love, love this place. It is my go to for Mexican and patio. I love the Green Chili, the Margaritas, the queso, really everything! The staff here is hands down the best too! They all know me by name, my order, my kids orders. It is really nice this day and age to go somewhere the has the whole package. And it is worth the wait if you go during peak hours.

Even giving El Senor Sols one star is generous. The house margarita and fundido was the only thing that was good. Our meals eventually started to arrive an hour after we were seated. First came the kids hockey pucks, I mean chicken nuggets. They were so bad that the two year old and five year old wouldn't eat them. Eventually everyone else at the table got their food within ten minutes, so either people ate or waited for the rest of us while their food got cold. The peppers and onions on my fajitas were still crispy, so much so that I sent them back. They ended up cooking them more with the shrimp which then over cooked the shrimp, so I didn't even bother eating my dinner. The beans and rice lacked any flavor whatsoever and the rest of the food was mediocre at best. This is one restaurant we will not be going back to.

We've been coming here for about 5 years, it's my favorite option for neighborhood tex mex. Super friendly and responsive service, good food and cold beer. The shredded beef chimichanga is the best I've had anywhere. The tacos al carbon are also excellent. And my daughters love the spanish rice so much, we usually order an extra side of it.

Great staff, amazing food! The only reason this restaurant gets a 4 star instead of a solid 5 star rating is that it seems to NEVER have seating available. The food is amazing, the desserts to die for if you can ever get a table.... but we find ourselves driving by and heading to a different Mexican restaurant in the area because the parking lot is overfull and there's people waiting outside. Dine very early or very late to get a seat. They really need to invest in a larger restaurant, they would dominate Mexican restaurants in the Littleton area.... actually, they should open a second location nearby so that it takes the pressure off that little place near us! :D PS: BEWARE: The El Senor Sol location in Denver near the Aquarium, bad food and bad service.... stopped dining at this location. So grateful the one on University Blvd has such great food, staff and chefs!

If you are looking for a really good Mexican restaurant that seems authentic and has consistent service this is a good choice for you. My wife and I go there probably 2 to 3 times a month and every time we been greeted with friendly people and end up eating something a little bit different from time to time to try out the menu. I have gotten hooked on their enchiladas divorciadas. We just took two friends with us the other night and they felt the same way that it was a very good place to go great food great service and they would come back as well.

Very good food and nice atmosphere. We ordered the chili rellenos and chimichanga. Make sure you specify which chili relleno you want - crispy or regular, they assumed crispy but were very good about fixing it. The chimichanga plate came with 2 for only $10 - pretty awesome! The staff was friendly but not super fluent in English, not entirely a bad thing for a Mexican restaurant though. Overall very good and I would go again.

I had lunch at this restaurant yesterday and have been talking it up to everyone ever since. I have been looking for a good mexican restaurant for some time now and this place is hands down the best Mexican restaurant I have been to since moving to town. The food is very authentic and tasty!! I had the carnitas and they tasted like my Dad's which are excellent! The salsa is very good and the service was wonderful. I guess this restaurant is a chain andI have heard that the other ones are pretty good too but so far this is the only location I have tried and I am in love. Go. Eat. Thank me.

One of the worst Mexican food I have ever had. The chili Rellenos were oily, hard and tasteless. The shrimp tacos were less than ok. The only reason that I give them 2 stars is because the staff was nice. They mentioned that hey had 8 locations. perhaps they should regroup and focus on cooking good food.

Over the past year this place was shut down while they rebuilt after a car crashed into it. They should have stayed closed. Over priced, small portions and horrible service. You can see how they cut corners with cheap silverware, lame decor and really tacky orange paint. We tried it about 2 years ago and it was bad. It's worse now. It's a mile from our house. What a bummer.
(1)
Beth C.
The service was extremely slow and the food was just okay. Not bad, just nothing to write home about. The house margarita on the rocks is much better than the frozen version which tasted very watered down....not much flavor at all. We were visiting from out of town and trusted Yelp reviews to make our choice, but were very disappointed. Maybe this is considered good in CO, but we're from Texas and used to great Mexican food. Disappointed this time.

I ordered at chicken enchilada combo with rice and beans. The enchilada was good but didn't really like the beans and rice. The margarita was really good! Had bronco color salt on the rim. Didn't like that several employees kept coming by asking if we needed anything else, it seemed like they were trying to kick us out. We were there at 6:30pm, definitely not closing time and there were couple other tables open.

Went here for dinner tonight and I have nothing to complain about except for the $8 strawberry margarita & the rice had a bit too much salt. Okay, now I won't complain. I had the chimichanga plate. Two chims, rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream and fresh guac. The food was very flavorful. They give you a lot of food so you should have leftovers. I've never been anywhere where they give you 2 chims on one plate. EPIC SCORE!!! My husband had the steak fajitas. That steak was so tender. Nearly melted in my mouth (of course I tried it!). His came with two large flour tortillas, a separate plate with lettuce, pico di gallo, guac, sour cream, rice, beans and shredded cheese. Oh, and the fajitas were covered in melted cheese. It was all very good. I know my Mexican food. I grew up eating my Hispanic friends mothers cooking and I'm from Los Angeles. Need I say more. Go here and get yo grub on! Side note: No happy hour on Friday nights hence the $8 Margarita. Every other day in the week does have a happy hour though. THEY HAVE THE BEST SALSA I HAVE HAD IN A VERY, VERY LONG TIME. ALLS I CAN SAY IS 'AUTHENTIC'!!!

What a pleasant surprise. This place is a little hard to get to if you're coming from a southerly direction, but definitely worth the u turn I had to make. The tacos el carbon were excellent, the chips and salsa tasty, and the margarita good. The wait staff were attentive and quick. I will be back.

Good food! Had the menudo and it was good and hot on this cold day. The staff is very friendly and willing to help. Just about everyone was working around the place to get their customers taken care of. I would say that the prices are about $1-$3 higher than they should be but I guess the area can have these prices. Will surely come back and try other things! Also had the green sauce with my chips, spicy and needed a little bit more salt.

This particular location is THE BEST. The food is amazing. I almost always get their delicious carnitas tacos. Their green chili is fantastic as are the chili rellenos! ALL of their food is simply delicious. The atmosphere of this cute location is wonderful. What brings us back each week is not only the location and food, but most of all the people. Darla is simply the best server I have experienced. She is "the heart" of this location. She is friendly and makes you feel you've known her for years. She knows what she's doing and ALWAYS services with a smile. Even under pressure, service with a smile. George, too...they're quite the team. The entire staff is great. We're looking forward to taking our visiting mom tonight!! They really need to expand, because they get really busy, especially Friday nights. Parking can be very tough, which is why we park in the lot of any office building next door and walk across. ;-)

Good food and service, overall very happy. I had the tacos al carbon with steak, and it was very tasty. The corn tortillas taste fresh and the salsa is fantastic. I ordered the grande size margarita (32 oz yeesh!) mostly because I was shamed into upsizing from the small size being called "chica." Very tasty and plenty of booze. But the chica size is probably enough for next time. I would skip the ceviche next time - it basically tastes like boiled shrimp chopped up and mixed into their regular pico de gallo. No taste of lime, and the shrimp was certainly not cured in the lime juice like an authentic ceviche should be. Other than that we were really happy with our meal and will be going back!

Ate here recently with the rest of my co-ed volleyball team. As others have said, it's a small comfy place. Not much of a bar area if you are planning on just margs and a few chips - you're better off getting a table. Food was fresh and reasonably good. Portions were very generous for the price. Not smothered in cheese or sauce either - a very good thing! Chips were ok - not great, but not bad. House margs are great. Get the 32oz one - what a deal! Service was diligent but not rushed. True Mexican food snobs might not like this place - but I'm not one of those. If you're looking for fresh Mexican food for a great price, come here! Be aware it's a small restaurant and will fill up during busy times. It's just across Arapahoe from the Shops at Southglen.

I recently visited El Senor Sol for a bowl of green chili and a margarita. I enjoyed the visit. The restaurant has a fun, "typical Mexican restaurant" interior with a small bar and comfy booths. It doesn't look brand new, but only a fake Mexican place would. I liked the appearance. The waitress was there immediately and was very friendly and efficient. When I said what I wanted she didn't try to up-sell me - either on the food or on the margarita - but was instead quick to get me my house marg (with salt as I'd requested) and some nice crisp chips with tasty salsa. No frozen margaritas here, at least not without specifically asking for one, and the house marg tasted good and had a nice kick - so nice that I dared to have another and didn't regret it. The green chili was very, very good: a nice smoky flavor and lots of chunks of pork, and two hot flour tortillas on the side. I was very impressed and will come back again. My one suggestion would be that the restaurant include on its menu some information about its gluten-free options, if any. I asked for a menu and noticed that it serves breakfast. The waitress explained that they don't open till 11 but serve breakfast all day. I can see why the parking lot for this place is often full of cars: it's a pleasant little place with very decent food.

We ate here with some out-of-town family. They loved it, but they're also from Georgia. We thought it was OK. Given all the rave reviews, we'll have to try it again. But I wasn't overly impressed. Update: I've dropped my review a star after trying this place again. I do not understand the good reviews. The food is bland and not very appealing, to me at any rate.

I used to LOVE this place. The pablano royal was the go to for me. It's been about 6-8 months since we've been here but there's a different chef or something. Not as good as it once was. No mas for me. We will not be returning.

We love this neighborhood restaurant and were very sad to see it close for over 7 months (due to a run away truck that not only hit the restaurant, but basically drove through the kitchen). But I have great news, they are now open! Christian and I have missed their delicious "fishbowl" margaritas with their chips and spicy yet tangy salsa, hopefully the weather will warm up soon so we can sit in their quaint patio. Their food is a great value for the prices charged. Some favorites that shouldn't be missed are the Fish Tacos because of the tender perfectly grilled and seasoned catfish, topped with a sauce that perfectly compliments the tender fish. Another favorite is their Pork Carnitas, talk about fall apart yummy porky goodness! Come to think of it, I think we have tried everything on their menu, and I don't remember ever not being 100% satisfied. Give this particular El Senior Sol a shot, you won't be disappointed!!!

Came here one day on a Tuesday because I wanted to eat tacos (TACO TUESDAY)! About 5 minutes after seating, we got our bowl of complimentary chips and salsa and looked through the menu to figure out what to eat. Finally decided on what to eat, closed our menus to let the waiter know we're ready, and 15 minutes later, still no waiter to take an order. By this time we're almost done with our chips, and I go to grab a chip and there's a HUGE LIVE insect just burrowing in the chips. DISGUSTING! we called the manager over, which I guess wasn't even a manager, just some guy that's there when the owner can't be there. it took him 10 minutes just to come see us regarding the insect crawling on our chips. when he finally came, he did nothing to rectify the fact that there was a bug in our food, and actually said "it's normal here" "it happens all the time, on the chips ok, but the food oh no!" we looked at him blankly, and still nothing. he said he would call the owner, and went back to his podium, and instead of immediately calling the owner, he decided to help another customer and took another 5 - 10 minutes doing that. We finally decided we lost our appetite, got up and left. As we were leaving, we made it a point to loudly say that he did nothing to make things right for us after having found a huge bug in our chips. needless to say, we won't be going back

love the food, love the service, but some days there's a long wait.... maybe they should add a second story!!!! :D waiting for them to stay open once again.... we really miss them!!!
Great Margarita's! Great deck and fire out there! The food was good too. We ordered a fried burrito and it was a bit salty, we think it was because we ordered it with carnita's and the pork was a bit over seasoned. We also ordered chili cheese fires and they were wonderful. But definitely will go back.

Yuk. I had been before and did not hink it was bad but this time I was really disappointed. Ate too many chips and salsa. Service was kinda slow. I guess they were catering a 40 person lunch. Really must not be use to sooo many people at once. There were 7 of us and we all had different items. I had the vegetable burrito and it was smothered in sauce and cheese. I ordered that because i was kinda watching what I ate that afternoon. I coulda had my usual chees enchiladas. My husband had a regular burrito but it was flat. Meaning there was barely anything inside,. I think there are other Mexican reataurants around that our family will go to next time my bother is in town. He lives in Chicago so when he comes here he needs his Mexican food fix. It will be awhile and I will read yelpers reviews before we head out for mexican. i am anxiously awaithing the new one on Arapahoe and Clinton.

The house margaritas were pretty good but there is NO happy hour on Fridays! Usually I am much better about doing my due diligence before visiting a place. Monday-Thursday until 6:30 and all day on Saturdays. The nachos aren't good. Skip. The salsa is nice and spicy but only the first round of chips and salsa is free. (I know, seriously??) Though we did get an extra thing of salsa and the server did not charge us...maybe it's just for the chips!

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Excellent chips and salsa. Entrees were just OK. Very friendly waitstaff and the food came out fast.

The food was amazing I had the nachos supreme and it was amazing. It was flavorful and filing. If you want a Mexican restraint this is your place

Hands down the Best Mexican restaurant around my family and I love this place the nachos are a must have along with the house margaritas and flavors are the best around.

Love this place. Owner on hand at the bar washing glasses. Really. I am a business owner who is always on call. So this is great. Bi love the enchilada plate. Real meal. I highly recommend Feels like I'm eating with friends!

The staff are great at this El Senor Sol and always friendly. The food is always consistent. The atmosphere is cozy. I recommend the Macarena salad with chicken if you want to go on the healthier side. The carne asada is also excellent.

Love love love this place! Everything about it is good. The food is fantastic and the service is wonderful. We eat here often.

I can only say that the Carnita Entree is good. We have tried others in the few times we were here, it's ok. Overall, it is an ok Mexican restaurant - nothing really stand out from the rest in the area.

love the food, love the service, but some days there's a long wait.... maybe they should add a second story!!!! :D waiting for them to stay open once again.... we really miss them!!!

I had the carne asada flambé which was excellent. It's basically a piece of flank steak with grilled vegetables and served with sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, cheese and tomatoes. This is probably my new favorite entree. The service was excellent. The servers are very friendly and they work fast. The place was very clean. The beer selection was quite good and quite reasonably priced. On my next visit I will be sure to order a giant margarita. One complaint is that the dining room is rather small and it fills up on Fridays.
