One of the best restaurants in town! I love their pot roast, all veggies, corn, cornbread, lemonade, desserts....my husbands goes for the friend okra, ham, ribs. We have been several times, take out of town guest there and will continue to go while out running errands. We took the family out for Easter here and it was very busy. The servers seemed a little overwhelmed, but the whole reason you go - the food - is always good. Their beer and wine selection is pretty good, too. You can definitely find something that you like.

While the Chicken fried steak, peas, and fried okra get a 3.5, the service was very slow and lacked professionalism. Will not come back.

Passed by it a couple times and thought I'd finally give it a go. It's a pretty good family place. I ordered the Chicken Tenders - tender on the inside, flavorful and crispy on the outside... Honestly, I was impressed with the meal & the value. My friend on the other hand ordered the Ribeye and was disappointed in it's lack of flavor...Ultimately, don't go in with high expectations of a high end restaurant - it is what it is. You get seated in a clean place, you get what you pay for, the staff is friendly, the bread is fresh, the honey provided is local and the meal that you get is quick fast and easy when you don't feel like cooking.

There are a lot better places in Castle Rock. I ate here with my wife and I wasn't impressed with price compared to the quality of the food. We ordered more food than we could handle so, we requested a box to-go as well as an order to take home to my father. We had our kids with us and realized we accidentally left the to-go boxes as we were driving out of the parking lot. I simply turned around real quick and went inside. The to-go boxes were no longer sitting on the table and I asked the waitress about them. Her response was, "We don't keep food for customers, so let me see if we threw it away". WOW! REALLY?! It hadn't even been 5 minutes. The waitress comes back and says, "yeah, sorry, we threw the food away." I asked to speak to the manager. I was being half-way reasonable, but you could tell I was upset over what was going on. The manager came out and I explained what happened. His response was, "Well, we can't keep the to-go boxes for everyone who leaves them." OMG! I couldn't believe this idiot was being serious! There was only one other party in there - and now I know why. One of the meals hadn't even been touched! So, without blinking an eye, I told him to re-make everything. He did, and hopefully didn't add any finishing touches. I will never eat at this pathetic establishment again. Hopefully they will go out of business because I haven't seen anyone else posting that much greatness about this place. In Castle Rock it is completely unacceptable to be treated this way and I'm sure many people will never return.

This place was okay. We wanted desserts so we decided to try Black-Eyed Pea. We were seated in the bar area, but not the actual bar. But our waitress was also the bartender. She was pretty slow. It took forever for her to give us water. We got the monster cookie and the cobbler. The cobbler was dry and gross but the cookie with the ice cream was good (not the best I've ever had but good) The waitress did offer to bring more ice cream for the cobbler when she saw that we had a bunch of cobbler left over. It was still too unappetizing to finish no matter how much ice cream we put on top of it. I did get to glance at the menu, it was your standard american restaurant menu. nothing to write home about. The place was packed full of people though. so some people must like it.

My family and I absolutely love the Black Eyed Pea! We go as often as we can. One of our favorite waitresses was Sarah. She seems to be somewhat of an expert in customer service if you ask me! We were disappointed to find out she no longer serves tables there any longer. But the better news is that she is now an assistant manager. I think the company made a very wise decision in promoting her. We look forward to see how her skills will begin to spread among the rest of the staff! Great job Black Eyed Pea!!! Keep up the good work and the AMAZING food!

I don't think We'm be back again. The food was just okay but we basically had burgers and wraps. The service was not good. The first thing the waitress said when we sat down was "Kind of late for dinner isn't it?" We were there an hour before their closing time and only a party of four. She then took our drink order and told us somebody else would be taking care of us. However, she did unhappily bring us some rolls. We had no bread plates no napkins no silverware I asked another waitress for napkins and bread plates and she brought only napkins. Eventually the food arrived and I still had to ask for silverware. Before we finished eating they started sweeping up the section they set us in. One of the waitresses swept within inches of our feet when we were eating; it made us very uncomfortable. We took the cue and left and do not ever intend on returning.

I revisited this place; the service was good and food just fine.

First time, Last time. food was over cooked and some of it cold. obviously reheated in a microwave. Had to ask for silverware and all they gave was forks. had at least least four waiters that i saw and only eight tables full in the restaurant and it still took ten minutes for drinks. wont be back ever!

Prices are average and so is the food. It kind of wants to be a Cracker Barrel with it's menu offerings but just doesn't quite get there. Ordered the veggie plate with 5 options for sides and just wasn't that impressed with the flavor and portion sizes. It's very average food but in a great location right beside the outlet mall. The hour break during the middle of the day was nice, maybe I should have sat at the bar instead!

Don't bother going to this establishment. There's better restaurants within 5 minutes of this one. We went on a very cold Saturday evening - the restaurant was not crowded at all. I didn't realize it until we left, but for some reason they put us in the bar. Why...we didn't request this?. The food was below average. Not inedible, but about like McDonald's in quality - with a lot more hassle. Not as good as Chili's or other similarly situated restaurants. We overheard a female customer near us send her meal back it was so bad. There apparently was another complaint while we were there because we overheard one of the servers call for the manager to address a different customer complaint on the other side (the non-bar side) of the restaurant. We had not dined at the Black-eyed Pea in years - however, my wife received an unsolicited email from the blackeyedpea.com website for 20% off dinner. After a non impressive dinner, my wife presented the coupon she'd printed from the company's website. Instead of being a stand-up person, coming out, and telling us that they weren't going to honor the coupon - the manager sent the poor waitress to inform us that she (the manager) had tried, but the coupon wouldn't be honored by their "system." The server looked humiliated - and said she was sorry several times. I felt sorry for her. If you're not going to allow something, don't send a lower-level employee out to tell the customer the bad news - like a sacrificial lamb. Its cowardly, and fails to show your employees that you are going to stand up for them. I've been in situations like this 30 years ago when I was working my way through college. Believe you me, it's de-motivational and demoralizing knowing that your boss doesn't have your back. We asked to see the manager...approximately 10 minutes go by (I think they were just hoping we'd pay and leave). Finally the manager came out. I didn't get her name, but she was young and not professionally dressed. In spite of it being 0 degrees outside, she had on a shirt with short sleeves, and some impressive tattoos running up and down each of her arms. She said that there were several different types of BEP's and apparently their BEP wasn't the one that issued the coupon - it was maybe one of the BEP's in Texas (again, we didn't pull our coupon off some some weird website out of Nigeria or Russia - it was a link provided in an email to us which linked to: blackeyedpea.com ). She denied our request - not in a respectful way. If she would have come out and kindly and respectfully spoken to us, I would have had absolutely no problem dropping the issue. $7.00 off is not a big deal to me. But because she was unprofessional and unkind to us, I respectfully pushed the matter further. I then pointed out to the manager that the coupon had printed on it: "Don't let the sleet and snow give you the winter blues - take 20% off..." and that there were no restrictions other than dates listed on the bottom of coupon (i.e., there was no verbiage on the coupon like: "only valid for Black-eyed Pea Restaurants in Texas and Arkansas"). I said that it appeared the coupon (only good for December 6-8) may have referred to our recent snow storm - not the weather in Texas. She then reluctantly said, "Well.....let me go back and talk with ??? (I can't remember who), and see what I can do." Another approximately 15 minutes go by (again, I suspect they were hoping the wait would discourage us and we'd just pay the bill and go). The manager finally comes out - and in a very unkind tone said that they still couldn't get their "system" to honor the coupon. I was then somewhat shocked when she added that while she was back in her office, she looked (presumably on the internet), and discovered that they recently had a snow storm in Texas (remember the "Sleet and snow" comment I mentioned above on the aforementioned coupon?) and this may have been what the coupon referred to. After she said this, I didn't, but wanted to say, "You just made us wait an extra 15 minutes so you could go search the internet to see what the weather conditions were in Texas...Give me a break" - but I didn't. She then said an a very insincere tone - that they were going to grant an "exception" and allow us the discount in a tone similar to a teenager saying they're sorry - but rolling their eyes as they're saying it. The only reason for two vs. one stars is that the server was courteous. Food - below average Service from waitress - good Service from the manager - nearly 30 minutes of extra waiting so she should check on the weather in Texas. The owner might want to call a mandatory meeting and discuss ways she is going to improve her professionalism and customer service skills. Going back to this or any other Black-eyed Pea? Definitely not. Should you go to this or any other Black-eyed Pea? Definitely not. There's MANY other competitors who have better food and better service for similar prices. Don't risk it.

We moved to Colorado recently and had never been to a Black Eyed Pea. The service was just fine, quite friendly. I had the Pot Roast and it was really well done. My wife loves the rolls. We went a second time and I had the Chicken Fried Steak, not as good as the pot roast, but good just the same. Chain resturaunts are a fact of life, I prefer something unique both in atmosphere and flavour but to be frank I haven't found any good places like that in Castle Rock yet! So far the chains are the best that there is in this town.

This place is great for a home cooked meal, when you not at home. This particular visit they were packed. Standing room only for the waiting list. Girls softball tourney in town. Immediately got sat in lounge area at bar' as that's first come first served. Andrew the bartender was phenomenal at taking care of guests. Not only was he the bartender, he also waiting tables and handling TOGO service. Had Veggie plate that was fantastic. Food was fresh, hot and delivered really fast. Anyone looking for a place with more than french fries for a side should try them out. Did i mention they have over 20 vegetable side selections. Also having a nice cold bud light on tap is a plus. Would rank 5 stars except restroom could use freshen up. I'm picky for cleanliness. oops forgot. Parents Tuesday night is kids eat free.

On my way to Colorado Spring, I stopped at Castle Rock, a very small town, to have lunch. Nice friendly country folks. Just baked corn bread which was very tasty. Their salad was fresh and loved their steak. The price was reasonable. Althought, the other reviews were not that great but my experince was good.

Service was good. Food was ok-it's just comfort foods, nothing too exciting.

I went to the Black-Eyes Pea in Castle Rock and had the worst service! When I first arrived, the hostess said that they only had the high table available to which I was ok with because it was only me. I waited and waited and waited for almost 10 minutes before I had to go to the hostess to tell her nobody has come to my table. She apologized and said that she would send someone over. After another five minutes, the manager came over and took my drink order. Then after another three minutes, the waiter finally came over to take my order. He apologized and said that he would like to buy me a dessert for having to wait so long. Then I had to wait another 15-20 minutes before I finally got my meal. After finishing, I requested a box to take my leftovers and then the waiter gave me my check but forgot about the dessert. Also the food wasn't as good as it use to be. The broccoli cheese soup was awful, there was a cheese soup with big pieces of broccoli in it.

I gotta say, in general I am quite a big fan of Black-Eyed Pea and was sad when we lost the one in Littleton last year. It was always a little bit creepy with weird wait-staff but I just love that they have a much more diverse menu than Chili's, Red Robin, and the like. All those different vegetables to choose from! I was down at the outlets today and had lunch at BEP. I found it pretty good. I ordered the, gosh what was it called? the Colorado BLT or something like that. It was basically a Club sandwich and it had a little bit of avocado. It was good but VERY VERY SALTY. I think the turkey was the culprit. Generally good and not so salty you couldn't choke it down. The server committed what I think is about as big a faux pas that a server can commit. He SAT DOWN ACROSS FROM ME to take my order. I do not care for that one little bit and noticed just he was doing it, not the other servers. He was friendly, though, and the food arrived in a timely fashion. The drinks took way too long, like 5 minutes from the time I ordered my soda and water.

The Black Eyed Pea used to be one of our favorite restaurants. We frequented the one on Exposition near the Aurora Mall. Good, solid home style cooking that was delicious, and worth taking leftovers (and there were always plenty) home for lunch or dinner the next day. Sadly, it's been gone for quite some time. We decided to renew our acquaintance today while visiting the Outlets at Castle Rock. What a disappointment! The meatloaf (my all time favorite) was dry and over seasoned with too much salt and other spices my unsophisticated pallet couldn't identify. The mashed potatoes were lukewarm, and bland. Only the squash casserole was as good as I remember, but the portion size was so small there were only a few bites to enjoy. The best thing I can say is they still serve baskets of yeasty dinner rolls, and great cornbread with their meals. Also, the service was pretty good, even though the place was very busy.

I mean, you kind of have to know what you are getting yourself into coming to a place like this as well as consider the options in the area. There aren't a whole lot of places of similar genre in Castle Rock. In any case, I used to go to B.E.P many years ago when I lived in another state and I was kid with my parents. I haven't been to that location in years, but I do remember it being better than this one. Our service was just okay. I like cold salad, and I appreciated my chilly lettuce leafs here, but I was kind of disappointed with my runny ranch dressing. Also, while I like the rolls I wasn't crazy that they use the same bread for the croutons. My wrap was pretty decent though, I was surprised. The fries that came with it were almost as bad as Del Taco's. I spent a couple months living in the south, and while I would say this place pales in comparison to the food you'd get there, for Castle Rock, Colorado I guess I'd say it's ok.

black eye pea as a chain has ok food. home style cooking and large amounts of food. and i have nothing against this chain....but this location on the other hand is a very different story..never once i have had good service. the last time i went to this location was the end all be all of my time here. now how long should you wait to be waited on? 5mins max? no...17 mins [yes i was counting] we get this girl that couldn't be over 17 serving us. was she even pleasant at all? oh goodness no. not even a tiny bit. she sarcastically took our order. we truly thought she wasn't even taking our order her attitude was so poor. now another question...how long should it take to get your food?..i will say at most...30 mins if it's a large order. nope...for some pot roast, veggies, and a burger..we waited 45 mins. by the time she came to us with the food she didn't even say anything about how long we waited. as a matter of fact she didn't even say anything or looked at us. she [and im not joking about this at all] throw our food [to the wrong person] and just walked away...that's right i said throw...she might as well have chucked the plate at us because half my pot roast spelt out of it's little dish and onto the table. our waitress just walked away. to say the least our food [or what was left on my plate] was cold at best. i didn't know pot roast could go from yummy and warm and tender to dry hard and cold so fast...i poked at my food and to flag our waitress down to have her at least heat it up so i could chew it and wouldn't you know it..the girl never came around. no refill on drinks...not even for the almost hour we waited for our food. after we finished our food we waited for another 20 mins to get our check. and who gave us our check? another waitress that i had to get up and walk across the restaurant to flag down. this one was slightly more pleasant and did say sorry for the wait. when we were handed our check we were happy that this horrid lunch with friends was going to be over...but wait what else could go wrong?! well our check was all wrong. it was lunch time mind you and i was charged for the dinner meal [which is a deal more money] and my friends veggies? we we got a side but were charged for something much more expensive. and by much more i mean 6 bucks for a small cup of steamed veggies. and my friends burger? well he got a cheese burger a simple burger and was charged for some kinda ridiculous special burger that was 3 bucks more than the menu said. so after reading this ...up i go again but this time to get the manager...well who would i run into but my waitress. i demand to talk to her boss and she just looks at me as if i said something in another language. and then she kinda laughs at me under her breath as she gets him... he comes out of the back and ask how my food was. and i looked at him like he was joking...after telling him what happened to us he realized that we had been there for almost 2 hours and said he would be right back. 10 mins later he comes out and informs us that the waitress we had was being let go for not only messing up our order but everyone's order that afternoon [way to go girl..way...to...go...] he then said he would fix our order and discount us. he ended up giving us one of our meals for free and didnt charge us for our drinks. so...after that..i will never...ever...go here again... if you want some home cooking i would stay home and cook it yourself. or just go to another place. this location is just not worth it.

First time here and was pleasantly surprised. With the friendly service and good food. Server Crystal took the extra time to go through the menu before taking our order. Took good care of us throughout the meal. Great home style food tastes great. Would totally recommend this place and will absolutely come back when visiting again.
(5)Stefanie D.
This was our first time at a Black Eyed Pea restaurant. The food and service were good. The restaurant was crowded, but the food came out quickly and tasted good. Our waitress was helping bus tables and keep things running smoothly in the area, at the same time she was attentive to us. There was an issue where the hostess asked another staff member to stop cleaning a large table and go clean some of the 4 top tables, because they had a wait for those tables. The staff member continued to clean the larger table and seemed to be taking her time. The hostess eventually came back and was obviously frustrated, but handled it professionally and convinced the staff member to go clean the other tables.
(3)Danielle D.
While the food was good, this isn't a good restaurant for families with young children. When we arrived we were given a high chair with no straps. We asked our waiter for another high chair only to be given one with broken straps. This is a safety hazard and made it difficult for us to eat because we were juggling a wiggly toddler.
(3)Amanda M.
This used to be good, I've been here a few times with my family but this time I think is the last. The service wasn't good the food was at best, okay. It WAS good before but I think this specific restaurant is going down hill.
(1)Nikki M.
The food here is pretty good but.... My family and I were a party of 6 because grandma and grandpa were with us, they told us there the wait was 20 to 25 min because of our size. I could see other areas to set up two tables to accommodate us but there was no way they were going to do this. We waited 35 min and still were not willing to seat us anywhere until we were leaving and then they wanted to put us in two different tables.
(2)Nathan S.
Thia place has gone down a lot. The family and I went out to eat and we went here. I have not been here in a long time. when we got there around 5pm on a Saturday night it was not busy at all. Now I am not going to say a lot about me , and what I do, but I have a lot of years working in the in industry of restaurants fine, and chains. This was a little concerning to me. Now I know.this small town is not the most hoping place for restaurant, but I was shock. When we got seated everything seemed ok. We place our order, and then it was a little time before we got our food. So ok slow services. The food is at low quality. Anyways, but this was wrong. just slapped on a plate. Will about four hours latte one person in my party got sick from food poisoning. I will never come back here. nor will I recommend this place to no one. I am very disappointed in this place, and the management need to look at what the people are saying, and need to make some changes. If you decide to go. Be very cautious of the quality of your food, and what it looks like.
(1)Diane B.
we really enjoyed the roast beef it was delicious. this was are first time we will be back.
(5)Shannon B.
Comfort food, lots of it. I go here when I need a chicken Tenders fix. Veggies are always good. But, I have to say the service is not the greatest. Seems like they are understaffed here.
(3)Don D.
Great place for kids meals and those of us who like lots of vegetable side choices. Staff is always great.
(3)Jennifer S.
Worst customer service I have ever experienced. Starting with the rude, snotty hostess to the unprofessional rude Manager. Ended up leaving and going some where else.
(1)Mt_4_us M.
Like another review, absolutely no service. Place is dirty and food is barely marginal.
(1)Maz M.
Wouldn't expect much from a chain restaurant... But this place is horrible. To make matters worse, our server was terrible. She definitley had no interest in serving us. I understand that is not a full reflection of the restaurant, but it's enough to make a 2 or 3 star place a 1 star place.
(1)Tait L.
Average food. Good service. Seems like it caters to a older crowd. I would probably have of choose a different restaurant, but the first place we choose had a 45min wait. This place had no wait. Now I know why. I was with a crowd, so they choose.
(3)Ray K.
Ordered lunch plates meatloaf and turkey with stuffing. Great service and value for lunch. The broccoli and cheese casserole side is excellent. With two sides I ordered the fried okra.
(3)PG B.
Worst meal in months. -Turkey dinner, cold stuffing, underwhelming cranberries, gravy had been sitting on the meat long enough to be moving toward solid, cinnamon apples were okay, but watery. Service was fine, but in case you think it's me being picky, my wife ate a quarter of her meal...pot roast. The potato skins were good and the drinks were fine. Never again.
(2)Melissa C.
So not so hot. The bread and cornbread are great and super bad for you, but you are not at a healthy restaurant so don't try to pretend you are. I ordered an iced tea which was huge. I also ordered the meatloaf with peas and corn. It was the lunch portion. I got it with a tomato sauce. The sauce had no flavor and the meatloaf tasted off like it was missing seasoning. The serving size for the veggies was super small like a quarter cup. I won't return.
(2)Lindsay M.
The service was just okay and the food didn't have a lot of flavor . This place is very southern style filled with fried foods on menu! I didn't like the seating either. ..our table was too low so my legs kept hitting and when we asked to be moved she said there were no other seats..without even looking :( if you want to feel really fat go here!
(2)Roni R.
Our family loves this spot! The strawberry lemonade is to die for and you get like a whole fishbowl of it with free refills! I also love that the kids menu includes desert. This avoids the drama of the desert menu as they have two options to chose from. I really liked the Chicken fried steak. The staff is usually really great, my only complaint is the appearance of the hostesses, they seem to really just not care about their appearance and I specifically recall a visit where the hostess had hair reminiscent of a Dr. Seuss book, just big and crazy. Hopefully she wasn't working around food at all.
(4)Jean P.
My husband liked his chick and dumplings Everything was made from scratch and tasted great! I really like my fried green tomatoes, the jalapeño ranch dressing was good with it. Don't miss the fresh baked bread!
(4)Jenn B.
This is a great place to go if you're eating out just to consume as many calories as possible! Really rich, delicious Southern food. The portions are gigantic and very filling, though you do get the impression that some of the side dishes, such as the broccoli casserole, are cooked in advance en mass and then reheated to order. All in all, it's perfectly fine chain restaurant food. It's good for what it is.
