Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

I went here a few months ago, but failed to write a review. Here goes, this place is no where near deserving of the four stars showing up on Yelp. Owner had his family sitting around the place drinking and taking up every table (although it is a very small place) with kids running around. I obviously took the food to go, the food was very bland. Very surprised this place is still in business. Also doesn't take credit cards, but does have a small ATM that will charge you a $2 fee. Total BS. I get the sense that all these rave reviews are from family or friends.

It's always disappointing to me to write a bad review of a mom & pop place - or in this case 'mom & son', but I really must be honest. My husband and I were not impressed by the takeout we ordered from Chico's. While the service was very friendly and welcoming to new customers, their food isn't what we are looking for when it comes to Mexican food. The salsa was more like tomato sauce, the Guac salad was missing a few key guacamole ingredients, and the beef in the beef taco plate is ground, and somewhat reminiscent of (while a step up) from Taco Bell's meant. Again, the service was great. We were offered a sample of their chili - a popular dish patrons frequently order. It was so spicy, I don't remember how it tasted (but I may just be a weenie when it comes to spicy). Really nice people - eager to please. Unfortunately we won't be back. Our search for Mexican/Tex Mex continues....

Solid Mexican food at a GREAT price. The food is solid but the price is why I keep going back! Great value for the money and plenty of family pride in the food. You will love it.

I travel all over the metro area for my job and go to lots of different restaurants. This place has quickly become my favorite little place for smothered burritos. It's as close to my moms cooking that I've been able to find. You bet your last buck if I'm in Broomfield, I'm stopping at Chicos! To anyone who gives this place less than four stars I say THIS IS WHAT MEXICAN FOOD IS SUPPOSED TO TASTE LIKE!

Neighborhood spot in a strip mall -- you go up to the counter and order from Chico himself - then mom cooks it up over the line. The green chili is the best thing on the menu, tacos are straight forward with ground beef, shredded ice berg lettuce, tomatoes and cheese - Taco sauce is awesome. Kids love their bean and cheese burritos

The ultimate test of a Mexican restaurant, in my opinion, is the quality of their tamale. This place passes that test with flying colors. The food, like the restaurant itself, is nothing special to look at, but the food is very tasty and filling. Quite cheap, with a fairly simple menu (burritos, tacos, enchiladas and a few other things), this place is not to miss. As many other reviews mention, they take cash only.

Wow! Delicious! The price is definitely right ! I had a beef burrito deluxe and it was excellent! I had it medium/hot and it was perfect. The beef was really good, it wasn't greasy at all, and seemed very fresh. The green chili is amazing! I got it medium/hot as well ...mmmmmmm. I will be back for sure and am glad I found it. The people were very nice too!!!

Quick & easy Mexican food. Just get the burrito smothered with chicharrons. Don't try to get fancy--- just do simple- that will be your best bet. Cash only!

Fantastic green chili! Love this place. Wonderful service and everything was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area!

I make better Mexican food at home. I had a burrito. The beef was gross. Underseasoned and no better quality than Taco Bell. My daughter had a quesadilla but doesn't take too much to make quality cheese and tortillas. The guacamole salad left us wanting. The store-bought chips were probably the best part of the whole meal. Nice people but won't be going back

Great food, quick service & great prices! I'm addicted to the green chili! Bring cash and a few quarters for some pinball or galaga. My favorite Mexican food in broomfield. Chico and Mom are fantastic and take pride in what they do.

We were extremely disappointed with all aspects of this restaurant. We decided to stop here for dinner tonight, and were really looking forward to trying a new place. Upon entering we were treated like we weren't welcome. I get that we had our 3 kids with us, but they were acting perfectly fine and should not have been treated like we were bothering the man taking our order. There are items on the menu that are cheap, but you get what you pay for. The burritos are small, the enchilada was practically just a corn tortilla with nothing in it and the tostada shell was stale. The green chile was decent at best, and the rest of the food was bland (you know it has no flavor when the 6 year old asks why it has no flavor...) They also forgot to give us one of our items, and we do not live close enough to justify the trip back, so our daughter didn't get her food and I had to make her something anyway. The extra added annoyance of Cash Only is just the cherry on top for me here. We will definitely never eat here again, which is extremely unfortunate.

Chico's is a super cheap mom and pop fast food Mexican place with a tex-mex menu of chicken, beef, and cheese enchiladas, burritos, etc. It's a small room with three tables, no alcohol, and a couple of arcade games. Don't come looking for Mexican street food like tacos al pastor or shredded beef or you'll be disappointed. Tacos are "crunchy," an anathema to any purist and beef is ground. Also, no credit cards. Meh.

Round 1: My first visit to Chicos I got a beef burrito deluxe. For 3.95, it was well worth it. It came smothered. Ground beef. I wont pretend to know anything about green chili. I never tried it until I came to CO. I usually throw hot sauce on it. But it was fine without. I'll be going back. Round 2: This time i chose the Mexican Hamburger, as was suggested by other yelpers. Great choice. It came with the same green chili smothered all over it. One of my top choices. I also ate the Taco burger which was alright, nothing special. Round 3: So I'm hooked by now. I love the green chili. My third trip i tried the goofy taco, which is the same as a double decker. The tamales, enchilada and tostada. Everything was great.

Definitely the kind of place you can be a little nervous to visit without a recommendation. When I got that recommendation I headed right over and found my new favorite Mexican place. Their specialty is hot green chili which I love. No idea how their red salsa tastes. I usually go for an enchilada plate and buy some good beer to go with it at the liquor store next door. Super cheap (I don't know how they can be making any money) and the owner is very friendly. Cash only but there's an ATM inside if you don't mind the fee.

green chili angel is that you? YES!! it is my personal opinion during my, eh, say, 20 years of green chili connoisseurship that chico's has the BEST GREEN CHILI in the state of colorado. yep, i dun said it!! growing up close to chicos i never realized how spoiled i was with my green chili fixin's - now that i live down town i yearn for this liquid deliciousness!! yeah we have sanitagos - but it's just not the same. i (secretly) love when errands or family affairs take me up to 'the field' so i can load up on this lil chunk of heaven. such flavorful goodness! not to mention i always enjoy supporting a family owned business!

[[Do NOT, I repeat, do NOT go to crappy Taco Bell, when you can get a 2 dollar bean and beef burrito here instead, which will be FAR superior to anything you can get for even a more expensive burrito. TRUST ME.]] I've been craving a good bean and beef burrito for weeks now, and we had been eyeing this place for a while. We went for lunch around 2, and were the only ones there when we arrived but three other people showed up while we were eating. The taking orders up front, who I'm assuming is Chico from the other reviewers, was very friendly and made conversations and took our order accurately. We had forgotten to bring cash, but thankfully we had checks which they do accept, locally. We were told from someone else that had come in after us that the ATM machine that they have available only works about half the time. We got two bean and beef burritos, one beef and bean deluxe burrito, and an order of nachos for myself, my husband, and my older son. The order came to about 15$ total which is pretty cheap, considering. The nachos and the deluxe were the most, had we all gotten bean and beef burritos it would have only been around 7 or 8 bucks, which is probably the cheapest around the area for a good burrito. This is more of a take-out kinda place, but there are a few card tables to eat at if you want to eat in, so that's what we chose to do... not wanting to deal with the mess everyone would have made in the car. The order was ready pretty quickly (if the food comes before the toddler starts screaming and acting like a crazy kid, it was very quick). He brought it to our table himself and made sure we liked everything after we got a chance to take a few bites. My burrito was great tasting. It's a little on the smaller side, but I wasn't really expecting a massive burrito for 2 bucks and some change. My son devoured his, and my husband said that the green chili was awesome (and he knows his green chili). The nachos were so-so, not really a fan of those and could have done without, but still not bad. Overall, if I need a fast lunch I would go back here in a heartbeat for a quick burrito. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Small neighborhood mom and pop, Mexican pickup and take out. Call ahead, ask for mild sauce, you'll get flavor, excellent food, at a very very reasonably priced.
(4)Amy C.
Its just some good quick Mexican food, One of the things i love about Denver is the little cash only corner shops that pop up. This ones pretty good. Not super amazing, But pretty darn good.
(4)Brian P.
This place doesn't look like much but the food is awesome. Great burritos and the best green chile around. Highly recommended.
(5)Marty D.
My wife and I just had our 2nd dinner from Chicos (cash or check only). The gentleman taking the order was also possibly the owner. He was nice, very helpful and seemed to be an involved community man who was very familiar with his customers walking in the door. The green chili is decent but my burritos were very bland. I love guacamole of all styles, even if it has too much lemon or lime in it. This batch tasted like it had vinegar in it. Not at all enjoyable. My wife said her chicken enchilada was "ok". The quality is just not there.

Small, local, no frills. Don't expect anything fancy here but it is simple and delicious. I've had the beef and bean burrito deluxe and the tamale platter with rice and beans. Both smothered in the hot green chile. Yum! Bring cash or check to pay. They only have (4) small tables so don't bring a big crowd with you. I usually take-out. Enjoy!

The spouse decided Mexican food was necessary tonight, so, based on Yelp reviews, I decided to try Chico's. We weren't disappointed. The food was good, filling, and came out in a few minutes. We tried the burritos, tacos, and enchilada, and enjoyed it all just fine. Ground beef instead of shredded, but still tasty. The prices are extremely low. We purchased three meals for about $13. It's run by Chico and his mom, and has been in business for over twenty years in Broomfield. Chico was really friendly, and we chatted while he went around the already-spotless restaurant to make everything even shinier. This is one of those places where the owners take pride in their business and their food, and pay attention to their customers. You'll want to bring cash - they don't accept plastic, in order to keep their prices down. If you need it, there's a convenience store with an ATM in the same building. The dining area is lunch-style - just a couple tables, a pinball machine, and a galaga/Ms. Pac-man game. I thought of playing a game while I waited, but talking to the owner was way more enjoyable, and the food was ready pretty quickly. It may not be glamourous and glitzy, but... Fast, hearty, friendly, cheap, and family-owned and operated for 20 years. I can gladly recommend this place.

Anyone who knows how to spot good Mexican food does two things: Search on Yelp and look for restaurants tucked between a liquor store and a gas station. Low and behold, you get Chico's. The portions are generous, the price is cheap, and the service is great. We did not eat in, because there were more people (10) than tables (3) at the time we arrived. However, this food is good at home and at the restaurant. Bring cash, though, or you will get no tacos! I recommend the bean burrito with green chili. If you are feeling adventurous, go for some chips and salsa on the side. The salsa is amazing.

My wife and I were looking for some good Mexican food here in Denver. After a quick search on Yelp I found Chico's. This is my new place. The food was amazing. Ordered a been and beef smothered burrito and a tamale. My wife got the chicken enchilada plate. Both of our plates came smothered in green chile. As an aside, I live in New Mexico for years. I know green chile. Most of the crap here in Denver has little flavor and less heat. It's just crap. Chico's is amazing. Best I've had in Colorado by leaps and bounds. The restaurant itself is hidden in a small strip mall, there are only three tables and the food comes out on paper plates with plastic forks. If you're looking to pay too much for crappy mexican food and drink margaritas surrounded by stucco, this isn't your place. If you're looking for a quick, amazing meal, then Chico's is for you. The food was great, the green chile was amazing, the service was fast and the prices are ridiculously low. I will be back often.

This place has the best green chili I've tasted in Colorado. Probably because they get their green chili from Hatch, New Mexico. The prices are very reasonable and the owners are friendly. Great for take out.
(5)Michael L.
You can look for years all over town for a great place to eat, then you find a gem just a few blocks down in a strip-mall between a 7-eleven and a dry cleaner. Its not big or fancy. You will not need a reservation. Leave your credit card at home (not even accepted). Just bring cash and your appetite. The green chili is delicious. I also enjoyed the beef and been burrito. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the place is clean. I only wish they opened earlier (11:00 am -8:00 pm Tues- Sat). So far, the best Mexican food I have found around here.
(5)Carl S.
I'm a fan of the Taco plate and their hot sauce. When I'm home alone, I'll eat at Chico's more often than any other. You can call and place orders for pickup but no delivery. Go for a walk, it's good for you :) They are very friendly and after a few visits, they recognize you when you come in and will chat with you as if you've been friends for years talking about cars or grandbabies. It's a small place with four tables inside and a couple of video game/pinball machines. They are closed Sunday and Mondays and generally closed on holiday weekends. They do have a few drinks available; Mexican beers and Margarita's which is why I chose "Not Sure" under Alcohol.
(4)Freaky S.
This surely is a hidden gen. Very down to earth, home made mexican/new mexican food. They only have 3 tables. But the smothered mexican hamburger, which comes in a tortilla instead of a bun is awesome. The green chile is hot and flavorful. I have had hotter chile in Denver but not as flavorful. Good salsa and flavorful corn chips instead of the regular fare. They do not take credit cards though. I noticed that the cook is the owner/cashier's mom, a sweet lady, be sure to thank her, I noticed most of the customers do.
(5)Chris Y.
This place has great green chili. It is hot!!! It is family owned. I recommend either the chicken enchiladas plate smothered with hot green chili or the Mexican hamburger smothered with hot green chili.
(5)Lori B.
Wow, we went there for the first time last night . I got 2 cheese enchiladas smothered with green chili and beans and rice. The green chile was REALLY REALLY good and it comes in mild, medium or hot. (I got the mild). And you can't beat the price either. I"ll definitely be coming back!
(5)Scott K.
If you like smothered burritos, and green chile, this is a great place to find them both. It's a little out of the way, and if you blink you might miss it, but trust me the food is worth it. It is just North of 128th on the East side of Lowell. Right next door to the 7-11. It is family owned and run, and while it will never be in a fine dining magazine, I'll eat there 100 times before I eat at some of the more expensive "reservation" type places. Food and portions are better here anyway.
(4)L W.
They don't accept credit cards; they run out of guacamole frequently; the place is not as clean as many restaurants in Broomfield; food is okay but not worth going to the bank to get cash in advance.
(1)wayne w.
I found Chico's by looking in the Entertainment Book for a place to catch a quick bite as we were short on time and didn't wish to get to our meeting without something to eat first. EVERY GOOD THING that's been said about this place it true. Great food, good and friendly service, healthy portions, and very reasonably priced. As I live in Denver, it's not exactly convenient. But I would go out of my way to eat here again. Chico was great and Mom can cook!
(5)Clay C.
Love this place. Family owned. Dude's got some killer green chili.
