We saw this place on DDD and decided to check it out. In short, I ordered 1 dozen krauts and we were very disappointed. All were very dry and extremely doughy. We were left wondering, "where's the meat?" On DDD, the kraut was obviously specially made and packed with meat. We were very bummed to not have a similar experience. I will say, the people working there are very very nice. Regretfully, we won't be going back.

I had the cream of broccoli soup. It was really good. Really nice staff. I will be back.

Never had a kraut burger before and honestly they didn't sound very appealing. Now I crave Kraut burgers and homemade honey mustard.

Whoa! I got a recommendation to go way out to god knows where and I'm sure glad I did it. Got a Jack Kraut burger and I must say I've never had that unique of a burger, but it was delicious!! The prices were staggeringly low and I could not have been happier with the meal. While we were eating the woman running the front, gave us a sample of their newest cookies made with a little bit of Sauerkraut and what do you know delicious! Since I'm polish, I can't go anywhere that sells a sausage and pass it up, so I took it for the road. Boo yeah! Go here you won't be disappointed!

Can't comment on the actual establishment, but just to make anyone aware they are closed sun/mon and hours are 7-4pm. Not much parking either.

Good price, nice and small & fast. Very good sausage and Original Krautz..

  • Shandra L.

I was very excited to go here as my grandmother makes these and I was happy to get my fill. However, they were totally dry. I remember the dough to be soft and chewy, mine were dry and the dough was bland. So sad:( I guess if you have never had these before to compare to, they might be ok. My husband had the sausage and he said that was good.

I think maybe 3.5. The American Kraut Burger was really just OK in my opinion. It was a little dry and really pepper-y. I like pepper especially on cabbage but it was maybe a little much, not sure, but if you aren't big into black pepper you may not like it. I did however prefer the German Sausage that was wrapped in the home made dough. The sausage was a little bland but it had the right amount of breading on it. I would like to try the soups as those look really good. I would definitely come back but it was not quite as good as I had hoped. I do like that it is different and is great for something different. Prices were reasonable too. The deserts look and sound awesome but trying to stay away from such items. So check it out if your in the neighborhood.

Good $ and tasty kraut burgers if you like home made food!

Soooooooo gooooood! I don't even like sauerkraut. But I would easy these all day! Love them.

The Lauer Krauts truck at Prospect Sound Bites in Longmont had the longest line of all the trucks so we had to try it. It's pretty good, solid and filling. We just had the original which was enough for both of us. The pickle was the star of the show for me, but homemade-tasting sauerkraut was great, too

  • Amy C.

Awesome Lauer-Kraut burger. It has fresh hamburger, cabbage, onion and Lauer-Kraut in homemade bun. Going to take home a German Sausage wrap and a hot dog wrap to try later.

Such yummy burgers! It's small, but quaint and it hits the spot. The service is friendly and I hear the green bean soup is amazing, I will have to go back to try that!

Wow, I love Lauer Krauts. Saw them on Diners, Drive ins and Dives. We love it! Great food and excellent service.

Everyone is so sweet...got to meet the owner too! What a little gem of a place in Brighton...will definitely be back! Love that the menu is so limited...makes for easy ordering! Plus it's all delish!

I just wish you were open a little longer so I could pick up dinner on the way home. Highly recommend!

  • Fred G.

I had the jack combo with green bean soup and a side of bread pudding. It was all absolutely ahhhh-mazing! I'll add that when we returned to work our efficiency and productivity doubled! Also, I speak 3 other languages now and I'm almost positive is because of the bread pudding...

Had a jack kraut burger and it was good. The potato soup was also great. Highly recommend

My Mom used to make Kraut Burgers when I was a kid and don't tell Momma but these are just as good as Mom makes. Last time I was here I had the cheesy veggie soup and it was so amazing that I would drive the 50 miles for it.

  • Robert L.

I had the Jack Kraut Burger.... Underwhelming and a serious lack of meat. The green bean soup was watery with odd shaped dumplings inside. The best thing I tasted was my daughters hot dog wrap. The service was OK, place is really small. The food needs work though.

  • Ashley S.

This was my first time going here and it is delicious! I got The Jack and clam chowder soup and my husband got The Jack and the German Sausage Bowl. It was all very good! Tiny little place in Brighton and I noticed they have a large collection of VW bugs inside which is cool. Looks like a little hotdog place if I had to compare to something. The only thing I would say is I couldn't see or taste the cheese in mine but it was in there for sure I wish they used more cheese.

The hubby ordered the American krautburger and I ordered the Perry's special. Perry's special was very good-German sausage cooked in dough, smothered with chili, cheese, sauerkraut, and onions-but the chili had way too many beans for my taste. Little did we know...krautburgers are the Colorado version of what we Nebraskans call runzas. Runzas will always be at the top of my list. But kraut burgers are now a fairly close second! Although we were sharing our meals, the mister got the majority of the krautburger and I was jealous! The homemade honey mustard was delicious too. The service was super fast and the staff was extremely friendly! If we didn't live hundreds of miles away, this would certainly become a go-to lunch spot for us.

Lauer Krauts is one of my favorite stops in the Denver area. The food is always good, and it just has a neat little small town vibe. The Kraut burgers are very enjoyable and very similar to the cabbage rolls I grew up eating. The only difference is the honey mustard they make is like magic sauce...its greatness! The soups are enjoyable as well. The food is very good, but the people are probably even better. You're always met with a smile, served quickly, and they treat you like your part of the regular family. When back in my old home of Brighton, LK's is a regular stop!

    (5)
  • Wade B.

This is just a fun place with good food. The Kraut Burger is terrific - add their honey mustard sauce and its greatness. We moved from the area 20 years ago and it's a regular stop when we are back in town. The owner and staff are really good people. If you're jonesing for something unique, come to Lauer-Krauts.

  • Chad W.

One of my favorite places in Brighton. I always get the jack krautburger but if you get a chance; try the German Potato Salad and bread pudding. You'll thank me later.

  • Rich R.

Kraut burgers were good, but not grandmas. That said, the service is wonderful. Went ad they were closing and they gave me two extras since I was their last customer before close.

    (4)
  • Terri K.

Incredibly friendly service even though we showed up so close to closing. Food was yummy.

  • Lisa S.

I'm a big fan of the krautburger but I grew up with my grandma putting cream of mushroom sauce with cheese on it so I always need that on mine-lol. But I make sure I go here now for the green bean soup on Tuesdays-omg it is good. Today is Saturday and they always surprise you and I think I have to go by to see if they've got it. It's a meal in itself and just delicious!

  • Diana P.

My friends and I came here for lunch and I had the freakin' amazin' krautburger! What? Krautburger? Well, krautburger is the German version of ye old hamburger but better! Way better than I imagined. It is not greasy. It has an interesting flavor. Best of all, it is handmade (that's what the waiter said) so you know the burger you are having is definitely fresh. Would have been perfect if they were only open till late afternoon. I came here after work and arrived to see the close sign. Had to eat elsewhere instead. So sad.

  • Heather M.

I have been here twice now. The service is great, the food is great & great prices. I wish they had a little more to pick from with soda choices. The only bad thing is that the one time I was in a hurry and was grabbing food due to my dad being in town helping with a project I loaded by daughter up in her carseat, went over and stood in line and once getting to the front & placing my order was told that the credit card machine was not working. They would not take checks (except from the lady in front of me), so I loaded by daughter back up, went to find and ATM and back. By the time I got back the credit card machine was working. Was a bit of a hassle.

Wonderful place. The owners and staff are sweet, awesome people who treat their customers like family. We go there for their breakfast often and enjoy chatting with people. The kraut burgers are good - some reviewers have said they're bland, and they can be but they're really meant to be eaten with their homemade mustard which is yummy!

  • Sharon B.

Came, ate and won't be back! My husband and I and another couple went with us to try it out.. We were jazzed to try these out as they looked really yummy (from the pics on their web site) and sounded good.. I DID read reviews on Yelp before we went so we were expecting these to be awesome.. Especially since it was featured on "Diners, Dives & Drive-ins".. All 4 of us agreed on the following: 1. Way too much bread - not thin as shown on the web.. We were picking off large areas of bread trying to get to the filling on the inside. 2. Very little meat and cabbage IN it 3. The only flavor we could detect was pepper, couldn't really taste the flavor of the cabbage or onions 4. For the price of just the sandwich I could get something more for the same price elsewhere 5. Service was very good and people were friendly and place was very clean.

Great family place, would def visit again...loved the original and the kinder bars.

  • Courtney L.

Went once and never again. This food might be for some, but not for me! No seasoning and the texture was vile. I won't be going back. The service was good, which is the only reason it earned two stars. I could barely finish two bites before going elsewhere. Hard to believe diners drive ins and drives approved this place.

    (2)
  • Tee V.

I looked up diner and this came up? Decided to go ahead and try it, ordered the jack meal and a German wrap brat. Taste was pretty bland for my taste. The dough wasn't doing it for me. The beef, cabbage mixture was just ok. The boil bratwurst was plain too. Thought itll atleast have a bite or kick but it didn't.

    (2)
  • Justin W.

I should have written a review of this place the first time that I went. I ordered more or less a pig in a blanket featuring a boiled bratwurst and two kraut burgers. I ate half of the brat, and half of one kraut burger. I threw the rest away. If you enjoy the blandest of foods, this might be for you. Imagine a pita sized piece of fresh bread, with boiled cabbage, onions, and a teaspoon of ground beef. It's presented to you as more or less a homemade hot pocket of waste. I went back over a year later for the "breakfast in bread." I ordered two, made with German sausage, eggs, and potato(you don't get to choose). I also ordered a cup of chili. This was $17. The breakfast in bread was nearly identical to the kraut burger. No flavor, no taste, and the ingredients are indiscernible from one another. Ate half of one, threw the rest in the trash. The "chili" was decent, I guess, but was more of a bean soup.

This was a neat find while we were out running an errand in Brighton. Using the Yelp app, we found this place and after seeing Larren's pic of the kraut burger, we had to try it. Curt had a kraut burger with American cheese and I had the German sausage - both enclosed in a doughy bun/pocket type thingy. My dog reminded me of the bagel dogs I used to love as a kid - bite off one end, squirt mustard down and enjoy! Their homemade spicy and honey mustards were delicious, especially mixed together. I sampled a bite of the kraut burger and it was good too. With a drink and a bag of chips, plus a german chocolate brownie for dessert, and a sample of homemade sauerkraut on the side for me, we paid around $12. Sat outside on their clean patio with what looked like many regulars and had the friendliest service ever. They also sell German candies inside, such as a few varieties of Kinder and Haribo. The only thing that would have been better would be some German beer to go with :)

I've been looking for authentic German food for years since my grandmother passed away. Nothing has even come close until I tried this place. Great food all around. I ended up ordering two meals to sample and was very impressed with the kraut, sausage, and kraut burgers. I ended up devouring it all even though I was stuffed. The sausage had great flavor and was perfectly tender. If you enjoy kraut and German cooking, this is a must try place for you.

Went there for lunch recently and had their krautburger. I'm very familiar with Runzas and can honestly say... the krautburger was sorely lacking in much meat or kraut at all. Pictures on their web site show a much different krautburger than I received. Four plus bucks and I left very unsatisfied. I gave two stars based on the cleanliness and friendly vibe. But I went for the krautburger and once again... more hype from DDD than was delivered.

Love to support the local restaurants in Brighton. This place is great. The people are friendly and you know everything is made from scratch. The soups are amazing. The deserts are so big you have to share them. Might not always get a table, but it is the type of place you can join the others eating there and get to know someone new. I need to try the breakfast. I also need to find the food truck when it is out.

Lauer Krauts is a great little place that offers delicious food that you certainly can't find at just any restaurant. My dad and I both ordered the original Lauer Kraut and we split a cup of chili. Everything tasted great, service was fast and friendly and I can't wait to go back! It's a little hard to find - it's tucked away on a side street surrounded by a residential neighborhood, but I suggest finding this place :)

  • Rebeca R.

Thanks Brett & Aaron for getting my ass out to Brighton! It was quite a treat! The service was outstanding! It is a tiny lil place with a whole lotta personality. I have a tiny lil lame appetite and when I only ate part of my burger, the employee assumed I didn't like it and brought out a brat for free! So sweet, I enjoyed my leftovers and my bf enjoyed the free brat for another meal. It was super yummy, so if you like kraut and or burgers - check it out. And the sauerkraut cookies were delish, don't be scared!

Wahoo! I heard this place was being visited by Diners Drive-ins and Dives, otherwise I would have never known about it. Brighton? I've never been and frankly until I punched it in to the ol trusty GPS, I had know idea where Brighton was. But I found it and it was worth the 20 mile trip. I'm German and grew up on kraut burgers, my family calls them Bierox. So I was more excited than ever to get through the doors. And as much as I hate to say it, sorry Mom.. these kraut burgers are among the elite. Not to mention the delicious potato green bean dumpling soup that had me scraping the bottom of the cup in no time. It's a simple menu, prepared with the up most tradition... While I was eating.. a woman that looked just like my Nana came out of the kitchen with an apron on. And it all started to make sense. Thanks Lauer Krauts for taking me home for the Holidays. I'll be back, again and ....again

  • Rebecca H.

The krautburgers are solid, the soup is good and the brownies are yum. The place is seriously lacking in seating, sometimes its really busy and they have random hours. I like it, but nothing to really go out of your way for.

  • Judith Y.

Went here on Wednesday, was recommended by a friend. The kraut burgers were ok - I guess I'm not used to of having actual sour kraut in the kraut burgers vs just the sauteed cabbage. We also had gotten a bowl of the chicken noodle soup. When I look in the bowl the first thing that came to mind was the Lipton noodles & thought I wasted $2.50 but honestly to soup was very tasty and big pieces of chicken. Lastly we had the bread pudding - a little rubbery consistency but good flavor also. If I'm in town I may stop there again but not a place I'd make an effort to go to.

  • Bill Y.

I live quite close to this establishment and wonder why I haven't discovered this place sooner. I had ordered a Jack Kraut and the missus had ordered a german sausage wrap. Both were absolutely outstanding. I used the homemade mustard on the jack kraut and it really nicely complimented the burger. The prices were very reasonable and in line with any of the blah fast food major chains in town. I will say that if you are coming here for lunch be prepared to circle the block. From what I saw only street parking is available and it was tight at noon. The inside is small but on a nice day there is plenty of outdoor seating.

    (5)
  • Dave A.

Could be really, really good if they didn't use so much bread. The definition of gut-bomb. I prefer the pigs in a blanket, hot dogs not the sausage, to the burgers. Soups are good. I've been here 3-4 times in 8 years so not crazy about it but nothing bad to report.

    (3)
  • Heather A.

Just ate here for the first time even though we have passed by it several times. I am gonna say its just ok, but my husband really liked it. I got the hot dog and he got the sausage and we got an american kraut burger to share. The hot dog was way to fat, you could make four hotdogs out of one of those! I think it was bigger than the sausage. I am partial to the skinnier dogs. And the burger has too much kraut/cabbage! I could barely find any meat in there. I do not like kraut but thought since it was mixed with hamburger and cheese that it wouldn't be bad but since that was all you could taste it wasn't very good. Again my husband liked it so that is why I gave it three stars.

woot! great food here. the kraut burger with pepper jack cheese is my favorite.

We have went there twice. Didn't care for it either time. Runza's is a lot better than this. No flavor either time and we were not treated all that great. The employees didn't smile and just gave us the look like we were intruding. We thought maybe the 1st time was a bad day for them so we decided to give them a second chance. No thanks. Won't return.

the only other krautburger ive had was from a fastfood chain called Runzas in Nebraska....the ones at Lauer Krauts are way better....try one with their homemade honey mustard sauce which is the best ive tasted....they also make excellent best bread pudding

  • Jeff P.

I never had a real Kraut Burger before I stopped by here. Oh sure, I'd bought a crappy version at the King Soopers deli section now and then. But to really experience a real kraut burger, stop by Lauer Krauts. The location is kind of funky, next to the chiropractor's office across the street from the Senior Center. The kraut burgers are really good, but their soups are out of this world!Best chicken noodle soup I've had in a long time. Wednesdays are German Potato Salad day and well worth showing up mid-week. Served warm, it is awesome! Friendly people, great service, homemade food. Give it a try!!!

    (4)
  • Brett P.

Friendly people, cozy atmosphere. My wife and I had a couple of American cheese Krautburgers and some chicken noodle soup. The soup was good, the burgers were pretty good, not amazing. I'd eat here again, but wouldn't go out of my way to do so.

  • Ken J.

Just left my unfinished lunch. A lot of people seem to like it, but it's just not for me. 5 stars because I wish I loved it. Very nice people. Cute atmosphere. They refunded me with no questions. I wish more businesses treated their costumers the way these folks did. Again, I've never had authentic German food. I'm sure the food is great if you have that pallet. A for effort.

I found this place thanks to Yelp, honestly I probably never would have found it on my own. It's tucked back in a neighborhood near the Brighton Senior Center just south of Taco Rapidos. Anyway, the food is great. The burgers are really tasty and the daily soups are a must. For around $7 you get a burger, soup and a drink. Pretty good value if you ask me. The people are amazing, always friendly and kind. I recently took my family there on a day that it had rained. We wanted to sit outside so about 4 of their staff members grabbed towels and quickly dried the tables and chairs located on the patio. Then checked on us every so often to make sure we were still doing okay. I would have to say this is one of the best quick lunches you are going to find in Brighton, hands down. P. S. - For those not familiar with kraut burgers they are a mixture of fresh ground beef, cabbage, onion wrapped with bread dough and baked. Very tasty!

After seeing it in Triple D, we knew we had to schedule it in with our road trip...and soo glad we did!! Super friendly staff and owner. After trying just one, we had to order 1 more AND then take 3 more up to my family. Don't forget to sign her guest book and place a pin on the map showing where you traveled from. Can't wait to go back!! Thanks for such a great exprience :)

I have to say I had never had a Kraut Burger before I had one at Lauer Krauts. I have never been a fan of sauerkraut and was nervous to give one of these babies a try, but once I did, I was hooked. I get a Jack Kraut Burger that has pepper jack cheese in it. The Hot Dog Wraps are great, but in my opinion the soups are the shining stars! They are homemade and go through a rotation. My favorites are Green Bean and Bean and Noodle. They have been featured on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives and for excellent reasons. The owner and staff are awesome and really do care about their customers and it shows in the way they treat everyone. Oh how could I forget to mention the desserts. Um, lets just say DELICIOUS!

  • Dean S.

A solid no questions asked 4 stars. I honestly cant wait to go back. Had the lauer kraut sandwhich with the jack cheese, coupled with their house mustard it was so awesome. They also sell bottles of the house mustard, which I fully took advantage of and its now in my refrigerator. The menu is simple and to the point (which i always love) the people working there were super nice and we were the only ones that walked through the door that were not greeted by name. This place has obviously gained some very loyal customers. The main reason that its getting 4 stars and not 5 is because the latest its ever opened is 4pm. Other than that this place is worth the try. I will be going back.

  • Heather G.

I was turned on to this place because of triple D on the Food Network. I have made kraut burgers myself, they are a chore as well as grew up eating them and also married the son of a German imagrant. Anyways, these are not really the best nor nearly the best burgers. I guess if you have never really had a kraut burger, they are good. But far from being exceptional. We hit the place late during lunch rush this past Saturday, they had ran out of some things, which is to be expected though I was bummed they were almost out of the German Chocolate Brownies, something I really wanted to try and we got the last one. They were good. My husband got the German Sausage bowl, barely any sausage a lot of kraut and mashed potatoes. I think you really do get what you pay for as their prices were reasonable but I will not return to this joint.

Whether you call it a Kraut Burger, a Bierock, or a Runza, I call it: tasty! And Lauer Krauts makes some good ones. I heard about this place on Yelp and decided I had to check it out. I got the Traditional Lauer Kraut, and my wife got the 1/4-pound hot dog "in a blanket". Both were great, as were the friendly service & the home-cooked dessert (the name of which escapes me). Better, they make mini-Krauts in batches of several dozen if you call ahead. As this is my absolute favorite for football parties, I think I'll be hitting them up soon!

Nice change of pace from the ordinary burger. They have AWESOME homemade honey mustard. So good!

We saw this on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. We decided to give this place a try on our vacation to Colorado. Wonderful warm greeting immediatley upon walking thru the door. We ordered the Jack Lauer Kraut Jalapeno Burger and their chili.. OMGosh..what a treat! The burger was even better than we expected and the chilli was one of the best I have ever had. Great choices of condiments to put on your burger..We really enjoyed the honey mustard. We even enjoyed nice conversation with the staff and the owner. We ordered dessert to go as we were so stuffed we couldn't eat anymore. Rhubarb cake..and bread pudding. The rhubarb cake reminded me of the cake my grandmother made for me. I can't wait to visit again..SOON!
