Great grub and laid back atmosphere. Loved the seafood gumbo and Voodoo pasta. Owner Raymond Griffin was in town and was the nicest southern man. What a beaut. Will come again!

Nice little place. They'll give you a free sample of all the different gumbo and bisque. I liked the seafood and the lobster bisque; but I've definitely had better. The severs are nice and fast. Guess the only reason for 3 stars was the food, I'm not a gumbo fan.

Fantastic patio. Food was pretty good....mainly just fried food, which is the name if the Gane when talking Cajun....good spicy flavors....the samples were great...made me want to order everything. LOL Instead I ordered the Seafood platter. I felt it was a little high priced dor what you got....the oysters were amazing, the shrimp so so, and the catfish kinda sad.....it cane with coleslaw and french bread. Service was GREAT, suoer friendly and efficient. The only loss of a star is cost vs quality, but I would eat here again, I'd just order a cheaper dish. :)

Wanted to try something a little different this time. So we found this little Cajun spot and it was great! Its pricey but it is fresh seafood in Breckenridge so... Try the sampler if your not sure, it'll change your mind! We got a couple Po-Boy sandwiches and a basket of fried Okra. Both were made very well and tasted quite fresh. The shrimp in the Po-Boy was cooked perfectly and the tarter sauce had a nice kick to it. Okra was cooked just as well. Make a spicy ketchup with the hot sauce and use it to dip the Okra in! It's great! Will definitely be back and will be sure to try the Gumbo or Etuffee.

The seafood gumbo is spot on reminiscent of the gulf coast. People accustomed to hot food may find it overly mild. Overall their setup is newby friendly. They will bring a free sample of each entre for you to try. All are good so a decision will be difficult. For dessert one must try the beniegt. These would be perfect with some honey. If you're in Brek come here.

Hungry for lunch and headed up Main Street to see what was available. Lots and lots of bar and grill type establishments here so hoping to find something different. We literally smelled some spicy scents wafting from the drop down row of shops below and spied this Cajun place hidden away. I did a quick Yelp check and it looked like others had good experiences there. The service was awesome--thank you sweet Anita from Lousiana!!--and the food was great too! We had shrimp po boys with slaw (homemade for sure). The French roll was buttery, flaky and perfectly toasted. We didn't try the French donuts but we were all too full. We will probably come back again later this week though.

Group of 7. They provided samples of most everything before we ordered. Red beans and rice is the real deal. Crawfish étouffée was wonderful. Beignets were very tasty. We will be back!

This chain of Lost Cajon restaurants has awfully high yelp ratings at every location given the low food quality. I seriously wonder if all these 5 star reviews are legitimate. We tried the fried catfish, gumbo, and red beans. All were slightly better quality than fast food. Lots of breading and fillers and not much fish. The catfish also was clearly frozen, not fresh. The freshly made donuts for dessert are good.

  • K C.

-the gumbo sampler is great -the seafood gumbo tasted awesome with bread! -service is very friendly and efficient -the powdered donuts were okay (too oily and sugary) -location is awesome

  • Rich E.

First impression was good, we were provided a small sample of the various gumbos. The flavor seemed good and I ordered the seafood gumbo. When it arrived I stirred my spoon through and first thing I noticed was, there were two very small shrimp that obviously came out of a can. That was all the seafood there was. Two beers, two gumbos and $70 for soup that obviously came out of a can. I could make better by just google a recipe. Huge rip off! Don't waste your money. Oh, the nasty potato salad,, basically a scoop of some goop out of another can

  • Jamia N.

They bring you a flight of Gumbo's and the special of the day, So you get to try before you buy!

  • Deborah O.

This was the best Cajun I've had in a very long time. They give you a sample tray at seating and I loved all five of them! They had tons of those colorful beads to choose from, fun little gift for big kids at heart and my 6 year old girl. Mexican coke and some fruity beers that were fun to try. So if your looking for a relaxed, friendly atmosphere with great food, check out this little gem!

  • Robert B.

Good food. I had the chicken and sausage gumbo, jambalaya, and hush puppies. The hush puppies were some of the best I've ever had. The gumbo and jambalaya were great too. That's too much food for one person, but I rode my bike 5 hours so I needed it. The staff is very polite, please, thank you, and you are welcome were all heard a number of times.

Excellent... Getting tired of pub and bar food so we wandered into this place - tried red beans and rice, crawfish étouffée and chicken and sausage gumbo. We also shared fried catfish which was fantastic. Thought the Cajun shrimp dish was just OK. They have several craft beers too. But the highlight had to be the beignets- melt in your mouth!!!

    (5)
  • Susan S.

Fried okra, catfish basket were amazing. Super yummy food and worth stopping in. It is small inside and they do have outdoor seating in the back.

Randomly chose to dine here from picking out a random high rated place from yelp and well, I am so glad we did. We were immediately greeted and seated the moment we walked in and we were all in awe at how the place looked. There were dollar bills plastered across the walls and each dollar had a message from the previous owner of the dollar so the place radiates physical uniqueness. The tables were also ginormous so it was very comfortable to sit through and take in our surroundings. Also the service is really great! Our food was delivered to us promptly and the waitress there was very friendly. What impressed me a lot was that before we could even order, we were presented with gumbo samples (this place is popular for gumbo) and they were really delicious! It persuaded my boyfriend's dad immediately to get one of the gumbo dishes as his meal the moment he tasted the lobster bisque. Meanwhile, I got the Voodoo Pasta. Extremely delicious and filling with a generous amount of toppings of shrimp and sausage. I'm usually not a huge fan of shrimp but the shrimp on that pasta was very very tender and melted in my mouth because of the sauce from the pasta that blends so well together! I was very satisfied with my meal. Anyways even though there are so many restaurants you can choose from in Breckenridge, The Lost Cajun is the ultimate gem.

  • Alex H.

This is always a place to stop whenever I go to Breckenridge, be it ski season or hiking season. For some reason I can't get away from their chicken and sausage gumbo. Good food, also better if you get the Groupon!!

    (4)
  • Solomon W.

Restaurants in Breckenridge hit on all types of cuisine, not unlike most ski towns. Mountain grub seems to err on the side of ethnic fare and diversity at its finest--kind of like a New York dining scene, albeit on a micro-level, about 1 restaurant per cuisine. So, Lost Cajun fills the Louisianan void. Here, you will find catfish, shrimp, and boudin--all which help those rich, oft-skiing Cajun folk get their fix of paprika and file powder away from home. I don't think crawfish grow in the mountains, thus they much import these little mudbugs into Colorado... but they do a good job at cranking out classic goods ranging from etouffee to gumbo. As well, the folks working here know how to entertain and please clientele who have an itch for Southern hospitality. If you're in the fold of Breck and need a bite in town, this institution can get your sinuses going, since you well know that your nose will be stopped up from the high altitude and change in pressure.

  • Steve G.

Awesome food and even better service! The owner was there, came by to talk to us a few times and gave us extra etouffee when we were low and an extra beignet to be sure all in our party had one, all at no additional cost. Definitely going back next time we are in town.

    (5)
  • Rob J.

Was not impressed by an all fried menu. Jambalaya was bland and tasteless. Not really impressive to a true Cajun but I'm sure it impresses people from Minnesota and colorado. A little taste of home...missing the bigger picture.

  • Kristan P.

Walked in here during a bit of a day storm to escape the rain. Had a beignet and it was delicious. Not only was it good but the service here was spectacular. The waitresses are so welcoming and friendly. I would give the service here 10 stars if i could. My waitress answered all my questions about the area and Colorado life, she was so sweet. The food looks amazing and I would love to come back to try more as well.

My group and I waited an hour to get a table... After an hour and half we asked where we are on the list and she told us she had skipped us. Then she but our name at the bottom of the list instead of the next order. My group and I were trying to make the restaurant less pact by waiting outside.... Hostess name is daisy. Very disappointed and will never come back.

Went with four other people who had also previously lived in Louisiana. We approve! Catfish was the best I'd had in years. (I don't usually order it because no one does it right.) I had red beans and rice. Would like to see a side of Andouille offered but I can overlook it. If you are told to avoid fried foods, however, this place is off your list. Would be great to see a salad or something on the menu as a side item. You will get to taste six of their specialties just for sitting down. Clever idea and really helped with ordering. Going back soon for beignets and cafe au lait. I think they even gave us a coupon for a free order on our next visit.

Super friendly, great food - have to try the fried oysters and benjays. Very kid friendly, and spicy adult dishes.

  • Gaby S.

In the middle of downtown Breck, you will this excellent gumbo place. The staff is really friendly. I walked in not knowing what I wanted and they pretty much went through the entire menu. On top of that, they offer free samples of their gumbo! We came here twice. The first time I had the crawfish etouffee. It was amazing! The second time we had the lobster bisque, chicken & sausage gumbo, and beignets. All items were amazing...full of flavor. The bisque had nice pieces of lobster, the sausage in the gumbo had a nice kick, and the beignets were a unique treat. You can't go wrong with this place. We came here in the spring and I can't imagine how delicious these gumbos would feel when is all snowy and cold outside.

Great place Five stars for what it is, not Michelin stars Great recipes Quick Tasty Pleasant service A really good Cajun option for colorado! A lunch standard for me

  • Eugene K.

Solid Cajun food up in the mountains. Wasn't expecting too much since it's Cajun food in Colorado but I was pleasantly surprised. I had the seafood gumbo, okra, and an ice cold coors. It was all delicious! A nice hot soup after boarding all day! The beignets are pretty good too!

  • Cosmo C.

DELICIOUS sea food gumbo, fried catfish basket, lobster bisque!!! Some of the best I've had!!! Excellent customer service - thank you Jenna! I will return!

  • Levani K.

Wonderful place. Very casual, chill place. Friendliest service and staff. From the chef, to host and wait staff. Had to get the Gumbo, as it's one of my favorite things to eat. It was evident the preparation was spot on and the dark, dark roux was used. Full of flavor and love. I'd loved it even more if it had more of the proteins. Meat to everything else ratio wasn't the best, but nonetheless, very very yummy. The chef was kind enough to offer us the beignets since we'd never had them there yet. So good. Very flavorful and light, submerged in powdered sugar as it's supposed to be. Returning for sure to try the other dishes.

  • Lee D.

We shared the catfish to start it was very nice. I like the idea of the taster board that they give you. I chose the jambalaya which is only offered on Tuesday and Thursday. My wife chose the chicken and sausage gumbo, both dishes was very nice. Very polite service from both the server and the chief.. Highly recommend

The Lost Cajun is worth a visit. It's a taste of New Orleans right in the middle of downtown Breck. They start you off with a sample tray which includes a variety of their soups, a sample of étouffée, and a sample of red beans. It definitely assures you that you are going to order an entree you would actually enjoy - although all of the samples were equally delicious :) I ordered the chicken and sausage gumbo. My boyfriend ordered the étouffée. Both were so good! My coworker got a cup of red beans and rice which he claims was just as delicious as the étouffée. The beignets. Oh lawds. They were just as delicious as a beignet you would get from Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans. They were so good! If you're at Breck and you're looking for other options outside of burgers and steaks, please give the Lost Cajun a try! It's so worth it!

  • Scott G.

LOVED this place and will definitely return. Started out with the soup sampler, which is just awesome so you know what tastes the best to you. I probably would've ordered differently if I hadn't had the sampler as a guide. AWESOME. Loved our red beans and rice. Hush puppies were great, although frankly we over-ordered and probably didn't need them. Beignets were divine. Service was impeccable and friendly. Did I mention we'll be back? Yum.

We live in Denver and have been coming to breck for day trips and vacations for 2yrs. There are a ton of fancy restaurants to choose from (most of which we've tried) but always come back here for the best meal in breck. One time we came for lunch and dinner in the same day, it was that good! Crawfish etouffe and seafood gumbo are some of the best we've had. I can't comment on the dishes with meat but our friends had them and raved about them. Oh and if it's your first time there they give you a sampler of all the gumbos they have.. Of course it makes it harder to choose when they are all good! The beingets are amazing and even better than some of the places in new Orleans.. A must try! Staff is friendly and service is great which makes the place even better. Casual atmosphere and one of the few places to get the most variety of abita beers!!

  • Melissa P.

If I could I would give them a zero!!! Bad service. They said they would call us and didn't. Waited two hours and still didn't get a table. People almost fought us for a table!!! No structure. DO NOT GO HERE!

    (1)
  • Deanna Z.

Terrible service. We were quoted a 30-40 minute wait put our name and phone number down for a party of 11. The Izzy, the hostess, promised she will call us when our table is ready. An hour later we came to check on our table and says "I'm sorry we don't call. I was in the back washing dishes when your table was ready. There's now a party of 13 before you and the wait is another 40 minutes." What's the point of writing our number down if they "don't call".

    (1)
  • Anthony M.

The service here sucks. We put our group down and received confirmation that the wait would be an hour and they would contact us. This was a lie. When we returned the hostess acted as if we never put our name down.

Received a gift card to The Lost Cajun as a Christmas gift this year (our family knows us well: we travel to Breck annually). Hadn't ever been before. Stopped in tonight to get food to go and am pleased to report to all yelpers--it is AH-mazing. An absolute must-stop while in Breck. Initially, we weren't sure which delectable dish to choose and were offered a sampling of their most popular items. We heard the waitresses offering this to many customers--what a fantastic and generous idea to make sure customers end up with an item they'll love. Only problem is that we liked them ALL. There are only four of us so we decided on two quarts to go: the lobster bisque for our teen boys and the red beans and rice for the hubby and myself. We are big fans of red beans and rice, and this is unquestionably *the best we've ever had.* The French bread that accompanied both items was excellent, and the hub gave a big nod to the side of fried catfish he had. And if it wasn't already one of the best meals we've had in Breck, the beignets put it over the top! Be sure to get some. Just the right amount of sweet. The establishment is small but don't let that deter you. The waitstaff was wonderful, the atmosphere casual and welcoming. And of course, it's also a fantastic take out option with their faves available in quart, 1/2 gallon and gallon sizes. it! We'll be back!

Terribe service. We had a party of 11 people and the hostess promised to call us when our table was ready. Lied to us.

Great for family, kids loved the beads, and the dollar bills on the walls. We loved the service, the speed the food came out and the Cat-toufe was killer. I would like to go back tomorrow.

Sweet baby jesus.... the food is fantastic. Not to mention the cool NO beers they have. Service was phenomenal and would take anyone there. You can't to wrong with anything. My friends and I had the red beans and rice, chicken and sausage gumbo, sausage po boy and shrimp combo and holy mother of God it was good. I left having to loosen my belt!

  • Ray L.

I was just recently in New Orleans and his was as good as, if not better than my meal there. Catfish was perfect and the beignets were FANTASTIC. Make sure Jenna is serving you, great smile.

Crawfish étouffée needs more crawfish. Hardly can find the little pieces that are in there. Come on man fly in some real Louisiana crawfish tails. Otherwise I love this place.

  • Bryan D.

Cajuns in Colorado?? Well let me tell you that I felt like I was in a Cajun hole in the wall deep in the swamps of the bayou. Good service....good food. I had the cat-u-fe, my wife had lobster bisque and a smaller than expected side salad, and I cant remember what my son had but all the food was fantastic.

    (4)
  • MARTINA S.

Great food! Staff was super friendly, and let me sample several dishes while waiting for take out. Stick with the traditional items, the side salad left a lot to be desired. Gumbo and lobster bisque were excellent.

My god. Be hungry and get ready to be amazed. I could male a few suggestions but if you want- just close your eyes and pick something: you won't be disappointed (or broke when you leave) get ya some good stuff!!!

Went there with family and friends. Was looking forward to the catfish.. Had the seafood platter, and the lobster bisk. It was GREAT. The server was excellent. Loved the fact they gave you samples of their signature dishes right up front. The portion were big and everything was delicious. Was one of our parties birthday.. THEY comped his meal and drinks.... Highly recommend this restaurant.....

The food was excellent. The girl that waited on us was not very friendly. We would eat there again. Would have given it a 5 if the waitress could have just smiled once.

  • Andy M.

Some of the best Cajun food in the state! I try to pop in frequently when I'm in Breck skiing or for the local festivals. The Lobster Bisque & Et Toufe is amazing! The only complaints i have are it's a tiny venue & you can't have a Hurricane with your fried oysters!

    (4)
  • Savanna K.

I was so excited to stumble across this place! I was really just looking for some coffee and saw the had beignets so we went in. I was happy to order cafe au lait with chicory! The beignets are not quite cafe du monde, but not bad!

    (5)
  • Traci E.

The service was good and we liked that they offered samples since we were not familiar with the flavors of the different dishes. While we didn't love the food, if you like Cajun, I highly recommend it.

  • Matt W.

Amazing bayou food in the Rockies...forgot we were at 9000 ft until we walked out, Erica took great care of us. Highly recommend heading in for lunch recovering from a hard day of skiing. You won't find better southern basket served seafood around.

  • Jennifer G.

The red beans and rice is just about the best thing I've eaten. I haven't had Cajun food this authentic since I was in Louisiana. The chicken and sausage gumbo is also excellent. I get those two dishes every time I'm here. The beignets are also not to be missed.

    (5)
  • MigMarVel ..

Walked in to order carry out beignets. Staff was really friendly. Gave us a sampler of their soups (all really good) and had our beignets ready in about 7 minutes....and thats not the best part... The beignets were to die for!!!

I really like the Lost Cajun. Every time I come to Breckenridge, I have to eat here at least twice. Apparently they have a store in Frisco as well, but I haven't eaten in that one. The staff have always been friendly and accommodating. When you come, be sure and ask to sample - they will give you little sampler cups of 4 or 5 of their gumbos, étouffées, red beans and rice, and bisques. The samplers are a nice appetizer and definitely whet your appetite. I've had many of the menu items and they have all been outstanding - gumbos, étouffées, lagniappes, po-boys, and fried fish and seafood platters. Great French bread - bread can be pretty pedestrian and wasted calories, but not this bread. Haven't had the appetite to try the beignets and chase them with a Cafe au Lait, but it's definitely on my to-do list. Also haven't tried the Louisiana beers, but Turbo Dog, Purple Haze and Blackened Voodoo sound pretty interesting. Not a lot of atmosphere at the Lost Cajun, but its simplicity is appealing. Order at the counter and they bring you your food when it's ready. Picnic tables inside and very pleasant seating on the patio in back beside the river. Prices are good - fried oyster plate at $18 looks to be the most expensive item on the menu. Menu items are also available in take-out and in family sizes. I'm really hard pressed to tell you anything I don't like about the Lost Cajun. I live in Denver and I haven't found anything to rival or even parallel it in the Denver area. You should be warned, however - after every trip to the Lost Cajun, I find myself wearing red suspenders, talking like Justin Wilson, and calling guys Boudreaux rather than Dude!

A friend of mine told me about this place when we got to Breckenridge. He said it was kind of a hole in the wall type place.... Which of course where the best food is served! When we went in, the place was packed. The only reason that this place didn't get 5 stars is because, when I was going to order a po-boy, it didn't come with remoulade sauce. So I decided not to get it. My table shared seafood, and chicken gumbos. We also had a seafood platter with red beans and rice... Everything was amazing. Even the homemade tarter sauce... Which was supposed to come with the po-boy. I guess I am somewhat of a purist. Let us not forget the bengiets! Those were a powdery delicious HOT mess!!!! Yumm.... Good job guys! Will be back!

  • Kristin G.

I was quite impressed with this place. They have picnic-style tables, which is a nice touch, being everyone in Louisiana is very hospitable and welcoming. Have you a very homey feel. Met a New Orleans couple while seated. Before we ordered, they brought out little samples of each of the Gumbos they were serving. Helped me out to figure out which one I wanted to order. Went with the Red Bean Gumbo. Came with bread and a side of potato salad. Small portion but very tasty. The couple we met confirm the authenticity of the food.

What a great option. Rarely do you find cajun food in the midst of a ski resort area laden with pizza, steak, burgers, breweries, etc. And they're really good at it, too. While it's not "fine dining", it is delicious dining. My husband and I split a bowl of gumbo and a seafood platter. I liked being able to try three varieties of fried seafood--catfish, shrimp, and oysters. Each had a light breading and the oysters were my favorite. I bet they're delicious in a po' boy. I just wish we would have saved some room for beignets--they look really tasty. I highly recommend dining here as an alternative to the same ol' same ol'.

Being a big fan of the Frisco location, I was very pleased to see The Lost Cajun find another home in Breck. Awesome étouffée, creole, bisque and gumbo. The catfish is great too.

First time to The Lost Cajun and can I just say WOW. First of all, they bring out a sample platter of their gumbos so you can choose your favorite. The red beans and rice, delicious. The seafood gumbo was really great too. The sweet tea is authentic and the fried okra tasted great! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants some good Cajun food

  • Ian B.

Had lunch here today, based on a friend's recommendation. We had the red beans & rice, lobster bisque, seafood gumbo & po' boys. All were perfectly prepared. The fried catfish was the best I've ever had. Also, kudos to Melissa for superb service and suggestions. We'll definitely be back!

  • Erin H.

Yummm! Sweet tea, seafood & chicken / sausage gumbo. To die for!!!!! So soooo happy we stopped into this tiny little place!!!! Cooked for 6 hours and you sure can tell. I can't wait to come back. Excellent service and friendly friendly staff! They offer samples too!

  • Jason E.

Jenna and the chef ran a packed restaurant with great skill and excellent customer service! Jenna did a great job with our large and finicky group, even when an order came out slightly off, she took care of it without any question. All of our dishes were good, but the standout was the fried okra! The kids in our group loved the kids selections, red beans & rice, and drawing with crayons. The place is a little hard to find, it is in the lower level of the mall, near the center.

    (5)
  • Jeff H.

Traditional Cajun food done right. All of the gumbos are solid. The jalepeno hush puppies and beneights are a must. The place is small, so it can get busy at the height of dinner time. Friendly staff too!

  • Damion W.

I guess I had high hopes based on previous reviews, or I am spoiled because I live within 20 minutes of several Cajun/Creole restaurants like this. The staff was extremely pleasant and welcoming. One thing that I found out really fast, everything in Steamboat is small, including this restaurant. We had to wait about five minutes for a table on a Saturday night, which I can't complain about. They proactively let us taste their soups/gumbos/etouffee, all of which were pretty damn good. I was kind of disappointed with their menu, I thought they would have more of a variety. I went with the safe bet and got fried shrimp and a side of fried catfish (I didn't finish it all). I was good, but nothing I couldn't have done at home myself. My wife and the Cat(fish) etouffee, my daughters had a shrimp po' boy and a bowl of gumbo. All of which were decent, but nothing I would have went down Main Street hollering about. One big disappointment I had is our drinks, we asked for a hurricane and apparently they have a pre-mixed hurricane solution they use and they put a shot of Meyers Rum in it. Needless to say it was super sweet and didn't pack a punch. I was ONE AND DONE, and not because it was too strong - because it was a lame ass drink! Putting things into perspective, it is a mountain town that is serving Cajun food. I would tell people to go there, but I would tell them not to have high expectations. Take it for what it is. One bonus: it is very reasonably priced for Breck restaurants. You get a good amount of food for the price that you pay.

So so so delish! First time here and I already want more! We started with the sampler to see what to order and let me tell you it was a hard pick! Everything tasted awesome. I got the chicken and sausage gumbo while my husband got the crawfish etouffeé. It was amazing, sooo yummy. Its summer so not busy and service was great. I can definitely see how this place could be ideal in winter to warm up and empty tummy.

By far best tasting cajun food, miles away from the ocean but the seafood tasted fresh and cooked right! We love Cajun food, I grew up in fish and other seafood and I know how seafood should taste and be cooked and this was done right. They give you a sampler of 6 items that gets you a good idea of the kind of flavors you're getting. The okra is green, moist and flavorful inside, you don't need a sauce to dip it in but the cajun sauce they have is delicious. I got the fried oysters, the batter was flavored just right to enhance the oyster and came with a small coleslaw, fries and tartar sauce which I didn't need to use. My husband got a fried catfish with crawfish etouffee on top on white rice, he loved it. I got a side of crawfish etoufee cup because it got me from tasting the sampler. And definitely ending with a bang is that dang beignet!!! Holy shit that is delicious and huge! Another reason to love Breceknridge!!!

A very intimate but lively place! Best cast fish I've had in all my life! My husband loved their crayfish gumbo. No fountain drinks but we can all drink more water anyway! If you have been craving catfish, okra or Cajun food, you must go. Yum!

Excellent gumbos you can't go wrong. My son has celiac and the chief made a voodoo over rice! Wow, that's how it is done in the south, looking out for family!

Ordered the beignet bites and they were delicious. I love how they offer them in bite size so that you do not have to cut or bite into a messy big beignet. It's also easier to share.

As a Louisianan living in Colorado, I am often disappointed by restaurants here that claim to be "Cajun". This was not the case! Real gumbo, good poboys, great service and all the Abita you can drink! Highly recommend!!

What an absolutely charming establishment! We visited The Lost Cajun while passing through Breckenridge because we wanted to try something besides the hordes of New American restaurants and grills downtown. We were not disappointed at all. The staff was incredibly friendly and the place just oozed coziness. The atmosphere was very fun-- I loved the touch of boxes of drinks and supplies stacked up by the kitchen bar. The sample plate is genius. I thought the waitress was trying to get us to buy an appetizer plate until she brought it out. What a great idea to encourage people to try something new. My husband and I both had variations of gumbo-- chicken/sausage and vegetarian. Both were delicious, perfect for a rainy day (and in proper Colorado fashion, it had gone from sunny to gushing that afternoon). I cannot go on enough about the french bread. It was like a cloud of delicious lined with butter. I can't figure out how they get the bread so perfectly crisp on one side but light and airy on the other side. We ended up ordering more because it was perfect for sopping up gumbo. The beignets were also fantastic and very authentic tasting-- beat the snot out of those silly Mickey Mouse ones at Disneyland lol. Personally, I think the gumbo and beignets were even better than those at Lucille's in Denver. We will definitely, without a doubt, be coming back. This is just the type of gem you want to find in a mountain town-- cozy, charming, and filled with deliciousness.

Amazing gumbos, we tried 3 different kind they were all great, and by far the bast bignet outside of new orleans.

Small place and you may have to wait for a table, but I'm finding that to be pretty common of all good restaurants in Breck. To start with, you get a sample of a few gumbos, red beans, soup and jambalaya. This can either help or hinder your decision on what to order bc it is all so yummy!! I decided on the chicken and sausage gumbo and husband got the red beans and rice cooked w sausage in it. I have to say it was probably the best red beans and rice ever and we have eaten at many restaurants in New Orleans. The gumbo was amazing! We also got a side orders of fried catfish and fried oysters which were delicious and served with what had to be homemade tartar sauce. I did notice that the cooks were letting the waitresses know when the kitchen only had a few bowls of something left to serve. This leads me to believe they cook their gumbos, soups, red beans, jambalaya, etc for 6 hours and what they have is what they have. So, you know they aren't just whipping up some stuff in the back and serving it unless it truly has cooked all day. We were too full to try the beignets but we may go back for those tomorrow....

We had a wonderful experience at this amazing Czech restaurant... A little gem in Breckenridge. The goulash soup and veal were so delicious and very authentic. The hot spiced wine hit the spot on this cold night. Excellent service and friendly atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!!!

This place is great. This is the only place I've seen beignets outside of New Orleans. They come as an order of 3 and they're huge, so don't over order. I only wish we had more time in Breckenridge to go back. But if I ever find myself near any of their establishments, I will certainly visit them. The prices are reasonable.

Ended up here after calling multiple Breckenridge restaurants that all had 1 hour or more waits. We had a big group and ended up sitting all together at a picnic table near the front. They give you a little sampler to try some of their specialty dishes, and because of that sample I ended up ordering the Chicken and Sausage gumbo. It was very tasty, and spicier than I had thought (but that was good). My only (small) complaint was that it came with only the tiniest serving of french bread. I would have liked a big chunk to dip in the gumbo. I had originally ordered a side of bread, but the waitress stopped me since it came with the bowl of gumbo. I kinda wish I had ordered it anyway. Also ordered some french fries and they were fresh and crunchy. Overall the whole party liked their dishes, but no one was overly impressed. Would not mind going back, but we aren't in the area often and would probably try out a new spot.

Flavor city!!! Dang I miss Cajun food. This place is spot on. Melissa the hostess hooked us up with a sampler platter of various gumbos. TOUGH TO DECIDE!! Abita root beer and IPA cooled the taste buds. The family loved this place....THANX MELISSA AND STAFF!!! Ultra friendly and accommodating. Totally recommend.

We were surprised to stumble upon this downtown eatery. The idea of a bowl of seafood gumbo was appealing. As we were seated, the waitress immediately brought us a sampler tray of five of their wares. The seafood gumbo tasted great, but I was won over by the lobster bisque. My wife ordered four strips of fried catfish. That turned out to be dynamite combination. Both the waitress and chef recommended dipping the catfish into the lobster bisque. They were right. It was excellent. But I tell you that the fried catfish alone was superb. I have had catfish throughout the South prepared homestyle. However, the fried catfish here was by far the best I have eaten. The breading was light, and tasty. The fish itself was marinated before frying, making it moist and delicious with a tiny bite of spice. There was very little of that earthy, muddy taste that usually comes with catfish. This place is a hidden gem.

We had a really enjoyable lunch here before heading over to the Breckenridge Beer Festival. It seemed like a perfect choice to get a little buffer before the sampling. The atmosphere is typical "Mardi Gras" themed that you find in cajun restaurants all across the country. They get bonus points for an alligator you can take your picture with out front and a nice patio out back. The server yell the orders back to the kitchen, which I think adds to the atmosphere, but that is certainly debatable. I really enjoyed the sampler of different gumbos, soups, and etouffee. It's nice because there can be a wide degree of difference between these dishes from chef to chef. The lobster bisque at The Lost Cajun is particularly sweet and has a strong liquor flavor. I liked it so much that I ordered it, but another member of my party really didn't care for it. The sample tray lets us both decide before committing to it whether or not it's something we'll want an entire bowl of. The gumbos and etouffee were quite tasty. I would have been very happy ordering either. The fried pickles that we had as an appetizer were exquisite. The pickles were thin sliced and lightly battered. They were flavorful without the extreme heaviness of many fried foods. The fried catfish, shrimp, and oysters weren't quite as great as the pickles, but they were pretty good in their own right. The only real disappointments of the meal were the cocktail and the dessert. We had a Louisiana Palmer, which is basically an Arnold Palmer with a shot in it. The problem was the Arnold Palmer wasn't very good and adding a shot wasn't much of a remedy. The beignets had more in common with sopaipillas than the light, airy donut I'm used to. The flavor was fine, but the texture was completely wrong. I would absolutely go back to The Lost Cajun, but I'd probably get dessert at the bakery next door and drinks at one of the many bars along Main Street.

No service, bet the food was good but hard to know when you sit for 15min in a resturant with 8 tables and get ignored by two waitresses and the hostess. Just left because it only gets worse.

What a surprise this place was. I was not expecting much. Every restaurant I'd eaten at in Breckenridge was a let down while I was there. This place wasn't amazing but if you like Cajun food you have to accept that this place is pretty good. When put into perspective of where you are and the competition from other restaurants in the area. This place is pretty darn good. If I would have been in town longer I would have returned. It was by far the best placed we'd eaten for dinner all week.

Really enjoyed our meal here on our last trip to Breck. If you are looking for cheap to moderate priced eats in Breck, your choices can be a little limited, so I was thrilled to see a new option open up. This is a casual, hole in the wall type place with simple clean decor and a limited amount of seating. The staff are friendly and fun, with orders being shouted to the kitchen from where you sit. They are keen for you to try their food and provide a sample of the gumbos, étouffées and the lobster bisque. Louisiana beers are available to wash it all down. We went on a Friday night and had the crawfish pie, sausage and chicken gumbo, and the Friday special - unlimited fried catfish. All were great! The Lost Cajun is definitely on our regular spots in Breck now.

Came here on a recommendation from a Breck local and wanting to not burn a hole through my wallet for dinner in town. This fine little resto is right beside Rasta Pasta near the traffic triangle. My party of 2 walked in around 6:30 without a reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant was buzzing but not crazy busy. Recognizing that we hadn't been there before, the waitress came by while we were perusing the menu with samples of 6 of their most popular dishes. A couple each of gumbos, etoufees, and a bisque gave us a good taste of what we could expect the next time we come. Wanting some comfort food from the freezing cold weather, I went with the chicken & sausage gumbo while my dining partner had the crawfish etouffee. Both came with potato salad and fresh French baguette. The gumbo was AMAZING. It had just the right amount of kick and didn't come in a massive, unfinishable bowl. The bread was fresh and chewy and I wish they gave you more than a piece. I would have traded my potato salad for it because the salad was heavy on the butter and just didn't taste very fresh. I think the combo could do without it. I had a couple bites of the etouffee and I must say the crawfish (especially getting them in the middle of the country during winter) was pretty tasty. The roux and rice were also tasty without being too heavy. Again, it could have done without the coleslaw because the baguette was fresh. I barely had enough room for the beignets! They were made fresh to order because I burnt my fingers picking one up. They were dripping in oil and powdered sugar goodness! Overall, the service was great! the samples were a nice touch! and the food was amazing (-1 star for the sides)! Go here if you want a reasonably priced meal in Breck without a reservation.

We went there awhile back and I can't say enough good things about this restaurant and the food. Ray (the owner) was super nice. He brought us out a sampler of gumbos, etouffees, red beans & rice, etc. It was perfect b/c then you could decide what you liked best. It was hard to decide, but we liked the crawfish etouffee. We got it To Go and they even told us the proper way to warm it up when we were back at our condo. While we waited we ordered some of the kid beignets. My daughter loved them! Ok, me too. :) Definitely check out The Lost Cajun for authentic cajun in Breck. We need one in Denver!!

A super fun, cheap, and delicious place to eat!!! The atmosphere was very cozy and thematic, the service was extremely friendly and helpful (our waitress gave us two sets of free samples the second we sat down!). The food was delicious and hearty, and well priced. It is slightly hard to find, but worth it!

We had a most amazing lunch at the Lost Cajun. We sat outside on the patio along the Blue River in the bright fall sunshine. The food was absolutely superb, as was the service by Tammy, a very pleasant lady from New Orleans. The cook came out to chat with us a bit and asked if we were happy with the meals. We are frequent visitors to New Orleans and were so pleased to find such awesome authentic Cajun food. Very highly recommended.

Did the mine tour in Breckenridge and starving looking for a lunch place saw the reviews on yelp and knew we had to go. Got the bowl of seafood gumbo and special crawfish pies. My husband ordered the etouffee which the flour was not cooked out of the roux which gave it that flour taste nut nutty of a good roux. They bring samples of the gumbo's and red beans as well as étouffée . Cozy place great selection if Abita beers as well as root beer for the kids

Headline: awesome Cajun gem in Breckenridge The Lost Cajun is a small place downstairs in the southern mini mall on Main Street. Simple bench tables, and music that is anything but background. First timers get a sampling of the gumbos and étouffées that are offered. The seafood étouffée was spicy; the lobster bisque was creamy and sweet; the other three were in between these three were between those two in terms of spiciest. My personal ago rite was the red bean version, which wasn't spicy, but much heartier than the others. I ordered the classic oyster Oo-boy, which was simply delicious. Add a little Louisiana hot sauce for a nice kick. Even the bread was a highlight. My wife ordered the fired shrimp plate. Again, everything was nicely fried, not greasy, and tasted great. We had beignets for dessert. They were large, and only had powdered sugar on top. I would have enjoyed them more if they were half the size, placed into a brown paper bag and then shook with the sugar. The taste was definitely there though. Is this a keeper? I think so.

Wow, all I can say. Loved the atmosphere, loved the sampler board, and the place felt like NOLA. Oysters are flown in daily, and the poboy was awesome. Boyfriend had the fried shrimp basket. Goodness, can't even describe how good that shrimp was, thought I was sitting outside a shrimp shack on Pensacola Beach, not in Breckendridge Co sitting next to a rushing creek. Not cheap, but so worth the money.

There were four of us. We ate family style affording us the opportunity to try several items on the menu. The shrimp and lobster bisque was tasty but I got old before I could finish it. The chicken and sausage gumbo is pretty hearty and tasty as well- I'd have to say that this one was my favorite. The crawfish ettoufe was decent but nothing to write home about. The Cat-touffe was the cat's meow because it combines a fried catfish and crawfish ettouffe. We also got an order of fried catfish on the side containing 4 healthy sized strips for $6. The one major complaint I have about this place is that it's supposed to be a southern restaurant but they don't serve cornbread. Instead they serve "French bread". I guess anything can be called French bread, but this was generic and over toasted. The bread basically had to be soaked in the soup before it could be enjoyed. They also ran out of Red Beans and Rice, and bourbon. The manager explained that the season was just starting up, so she was still running low on items because of the lack of demand. She was very apologetic for this. The price was a little high. if I remember right, it was $10 per cup and $14 per bowl of most of the soups. considering the size and quality of the meals, the prices weren't exactly justified. However, I wouldn't label their prices as outrageous either. The bignets were a huge disappointment. They just weren't authentic. But I guess they would do in a pinch if you really just needed a fix.

This is the real deal if you like Cajun cuisine. Wait staff & food outstanding-like being in New Orleans. Two of party had crawfish étouffée which they enjoyed all afternoon. Shrimp dishes excellent. Louisiana beers, too. All in all very pleasant dining experience. Back for a second time 10 months later. Still great!!!! Great food & service.

Agree with King F. The service was bad. The server ( blonde ) just had bad attitude. When we asked for a new spoon because the one we got still had food on it ( a plastic spoon! Hehe, they was their plastic wear - go green!), no apologies, just a "how dare you ask me to do anything". Then the food...come on 4.5 stars? No way. Fried fish sandwich was 10% fish /90% fried. The waitress asked if i wanted it with lettuce and tomato. I said yes, but then when it came out there was no tomato. She said they were out. So when I asked for cole slaw instead, she said that it would be an extra $2. For a dollop of slaw? Really? This place deserves 2.5 stars for food and -2 stars for service. So I'll round up to 1 star.

Awesome hidden gem! Our party ordered a little of everything and no one was disappointed. The gumbo sampler at the beginning of the meal is a perfect way to help diners decide which yummy dish to order. Fried shrimp were flavorful, jambalaya special was to die for, and red beans and rice were as good as we've had anywhere in Southeast Texas or Louisiana!

As a New Orleans native born in the heart of this tasty food. My mom, sister, and I tried hush puppies, seafood gumbo, red beans and rice, seafood platter, a hurricane, beignets, and even some Abita Rootbeer and Abita beer. It was an awesome LEGIT taste of home. We felt so grateful for finding this small gem and we would recommend it to anyone.

The Lost Cajun in Breckenridge is right on Main St., but is hard to spot from your car because it is behind another small building. The restaurant has a festive Cajun themed decor and offers some terrific tasting authentic NOLA Cajun style favorites. The staff was friendly and the chef was busy preparing great food in the kitchen. We got the grand tour of the menu which included a creative sample platter with six of their specialties. It was a great way to warm up the palate and get the taste buds excited about the main course. This is the real deal! Chicken sausage gumbo, fried okra, and the seafood platter with delicious fresh shrimp, oysters, and catfish. Even got sweet tea to drink. Quality food, outstanding recipes, and all at a fair price.

The Lost Cajun was a great find in Breckenridge! When we walked in we were greated with a sample of thier signiture dishes. All were extremely tasty. We had the: Seafood Bisque = Was amazing! best thing we ate in Breckenridge all week. It had the correct amount of spice and was very filling Crawfish etoufee = Was really good! Super filling! We also had those bread things for dessert! They were really good! like super fluffy dounut! The whole meal for us cost around $35 bucks for 2 and each of us had a micro brewed beer and took home leftovers! I gave this 5 stars because of the Value, in a town of overpriced food I thought that this was a great deal and really good and filling. Good Job!

The Lost Cajun in Breckenridge is fantastic in every way. The food is incredible - gumbo, red beans, etoufee, beignets, cafe au lait. They start you with a sampler of their entrees to help you decide, but it doesn't make it any easier because they are all so good. The seafood gumbo is the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is great and family-friendly, the restaurant is exceptionally clean. Best of all is the service - completely outstanding. They make you feel that you are truly a guest in their establishment. Friendly, attentive, and making sure that you are taken care of. As perfect a dining experience as I've ever had. If the Lost Cajun in Breck happens to be closed for their brief off-season break, take a trip to their sister location in nearby Frisco. Eat here! You'll love it!

I've come to Breckenridge for years. The community is great. The food has always been okay. However, The Lost Cajun has changed the game. This tiny restaurant serves some of the best Gumbo I've had on the west coast. They have great flavors in all the samples, which they provide to all new comers. On a freezing night, their warm gumbo and étouffée is the type of comfort food I needed. I wound up going three nights in one week. Don't settle for okay food and long waits at other places. No offense to the other local favorites. This is just the best I've had in Breckenridge in the past 15 years.

We were exploring the town while the rest of our group was out skiing. Being from Baton Rouge, my daughter always misses Louisiana food while we are on vacation.
