Delicious food with fresh and locally-focused ingredients. We tried the PEI mussels, which were perfectly steamed and tasty with a zing of red pepper flakes and capers in a savory broth. I am not a huge fan of Brussels spouts but their Caramelized Brussels Sprouts (with sweet soy chili sauce) was fantastic! For our entrees we ordered the ribeye and duck breast. The ribeye came with Gorgonzola au gratin potatoes --- so tasty! A great place for a nice meal in a newly renovated historic building in Boulder. Helpful tip: they have a Happy Hour menu every day from 5-7. Great deals available.

I liked Q's in the Hotel Boulderado, so I was curious to check out the new place after remodeling and a new menu. The new restaurant, Spruce Farm & Fish, is casual yet sophisticated (it reminded me of brasserie Tenten without the very busy and loud atmosphere). The service was perfect and the food overall very good. I visited Spruce for dinner with my girlfriends and we had the special menu for Denver's restaurant week, which was a great deal at $30 considering that if you get one of their "big plates" you'll have to spend between $15 and $30. We had the duck confit as an appetizer; it was very good, with a crispy skin, the way it should be. My entree ( trout ) was good, but nothing extraordinary, my friends who got the ribs thought they were not tender enough. One of us had the gnocchi and it was delicious. The goat cheese cheesecake for dessert was very good and a nice touch if you want something other than regular cheese and and not too sweet to end the meal. The flour-less chocolate cake and the crumble were good, but nothing outstanding. My cocktail (blueberry smash) was excellent and not too sweet, the way I like them. This was definitively a very good dinner for $30. I would have to go back and see if the large plates are worth the price. I noticed that they offer small plates, and I will definitively give them a try. This was overall a very nice meal in a nice atmosphere.

This restaurant is new in the Hotel Boulderado and I had a great experience there. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful and in my opinion, is on par with all the other fantastic restaurants in Boulder. I was with a couple other people and we enjoyed some great cocktails, wine, and our favorite meals were the: Fried Oysters French Onion Soup Filet Minon Brussel Sprouts - amazing Our waiters were very attentive and made for an all-around great evening. I hope this place gains some traction because it's super quality and the prices are in line with everything else in Boulder. I highly recommend Spruce Farm and Fish for a date, special occasion, or just a delicious meal any night of the week.

I held a business dinner there last week. Service was very prompt and attentive, yet not pushy. The dining room was perfect for business conversation. The appetizers were well prepared. I ordered the filet mignon on the recommendation of the bartender. It was average at best...overcooked (my medium rare was very medium) and under-seasoned. I expect a bit more for a $32 price tag. My guests had a good time, so the evening was an overall success.

I scheduled a work event and coordinated it with Jessica whom was fantastic to work with. I was able to do a custom menu so that the food would come out at the same time. Venue: Inside the Boulderado Hotel on the corner which makes it easy to access. Everything was really clean and there was plenty of room for our group. They had a nice separate area for our group which was accommodating since we were a group of 30. We closed down the restaurant and it was nice to not get pushed out, they welcomed our company! Service: We had a custom menu and the food served was delicious. We had a three course menu and everything came out in a timely manner. Drinks were plentiful and a good selection. Overall: I highly recommend spruce for the food and the awesome service. I would like to go again without the large group so I can try more of their food!

Bad experience, start to finish. I can't recall a worse dining experience. A friend and I went in, got seated in the mostly empty dining room and ordered drinks. Then we waited...asked...waited some more. Then still without drinks, we put in our food order: oysters, salad, main courses. The peach salad arrived. Not bad. But still no drinks and no oysters. 10 minutes later we finally got the drinks. My friend asked for a straw. 3 times. Still no oysters. 20 minutes later, the main dishes showed up...we reminded them of the long forgotten oysters which they now offered to bring out alongside the main courses. We told them to not bother. As for the main courses--the lobster pasta had decent flavor but also had chunks of shell my friend kept discovering in her mouth. The monkfish was badly overcooked and wallowing in a bed of oily rice. The waiter came back around and blamed another employee for the lack of oysters and missing straw and then offered to make up for it with a complimentary dessert. We chose the supposedly amazing warm peach crumble special. When it arrived we dug in eagerly anticipating that something would finally go right, but alas, it was ice cold. The manager, apparently unaware of all the previous shenanigans, offered to comp us the already comped dessert since it would take too long to make a warm one. She did ultimately comp us 2 entrees after we explained the comedy of errors. I really wanted to like this place given the concept and location, but that was just really awful.

When you see a restaurant under construction it whets your anticipation. You find yourself detouring a block North out of your daily commute just to take note of the progression. You build expectations in your head, and by extension a perfect plate. Upon your initial visit there are all sorts of expectations swirling around in your head. At Spruce, you quickly realize none of these will be met. The service was very confused, orders mixed up, drinks forgotten. All of these are somewhat excusable for a new restaurant as they work out the kinks. Poorly cooked food is not. Unwashed gritty greens and charred-through as-ordered Med-Rare steak was very disappointing. Perhaps the perfect plate does not exist, nor should it. We all need a benchmark. There should, however, exist basic food service standards that restaurants should meet, especially at the Spruce price point.

I can't say enough good things about Spruce Farm and Fish! It truly is a hidden gem. The atmosphere is beautiful, tucked inside of the Hotel Boulderado. The food was all fantastic- the menu had a unique twist on classic seafood dishes and everything was super fresh and perfectly prepared. However, the best part of our experience was our server Austin who is truly the best of the best! He was so knowledgeable of the menu, wines, etc. and made the whole dining experience fun and memorable. Be sure to ask for him by name!

Spruce Farm & Fish is now where Q's Restaurant used to be. The space is remodeled and there is a new chef and a new menu. My family has a tradition of going to brunch on Thanksgiving at the Boulderado, so this year we got a chance to try Spruce Farm & Fish. The service was excellent and even though Thanksgiving can be a crowded day even at morning brunch time, we were allowed to linger comfortably at our cozy corner booth for as long as we wanted to. My breakfast was good. I like to put together side items for breakfast and I liked it that I could order greens with my poached egg and english muffin. All of it was tasty, as was their hollandaise sauce. My brother found it odd that arugula was paired with their chicken & waffle entree but I told him he could simply ask for a substitution or something. He can be inflexible though sometimes. Oh, the joys of family holiday brunch.... My daughter usually orders a fruit plate of some kind and she enjoyed what she ordered. My son enjoyed what he ordered. The coffee was excellent. It would be great if they would consider adding stevia to their sugar alternative sweeteners but that's a minor issue really. We have not yet experienced dinner here, or even seen the menu, but I hear it's good.

Extra charge when I asked where the smashed potatoes (listed on the special menu with the rib eye) were. They hand smashed some purple fingerling potatoes and then charged us $4 for them!
I'm surprised by the reviews. There were perhaps 10 people in the restaurant at the height of the lunch rush on a Wednesday. The waiter walked past us three times before we lost hope and went to the Med. There was no one to greet customers; the menus were dirty; the service was nonexistent. Based on the reviews, we'll try again someday but not with out-of-town guests!

OK but just OK. Went with a group for lunch and most people enjoyed their meals but most also thought they wouldn't be back. Biggest issue for me - a clump (3 in x 1 in) of melted plastic in my soup (might have been saran wrap). I pointed it out to the waiter and his response was "Huh." That was it; no acknowledgment of it as an issue, no statement that he'd follow up with the kitchen, nothing. Put a real damper on the meal for me as I kept wondering where that plastic had come from.

Visited Spruce Farm and Fish on a very busy Friday night. The cheery and prompt service made us comfortable and relaxed, even though we had a deadline for getting to a concert. The food was great. Lots of selections. The wait staff patiently listened to and honored all our little "alterations" and special requests regarding the menu. Nice atmosphere too.

Service was great, I loved the dinner menu, and every course was fabulous...including a fish entree (which can be tough to get right.). Add to that a nice ambience, great kids menu, & solid decaf coffee...and I couldn't ask for much more. 5 may be hair high given Boulder's exceptional choices, but clearly 4 wouldn't fair with "everything right" with our first experience there. Looking forward to going back!

After walking up and down the Pearl street mall, I almost felt guilty about selecting the restaurant in our hotel for dinner - I wondered if we were just being lazy. But dinner was great, and I don't have a single regret. Charming atmosphere, attentive but not oppressive service, and the food was delicious. I tried two of the specials - to start, a grilled palisade peach salad with arugula, pistachios and sugar snap peas and for dinner, grilled barramundi over orzo and cherry tomatoes, served with a corn purée and garnished with celery leaves and Italian parsley. The balance of flavors was complex, but light and elegant. Both were outstanding. I also sampled the roast chicken over fingerling potatoes, from the regular menu, and I wouldn't hesitate to order that one, either. I appreciated having options for happy hour wines and appetizers, including oysters, but didn't try them this time. Kids were happy with the cheese pizza, which had a thin flatbread-style crust and a surprisingly sophisticated sauce. Great deal at $5. If you do happen to be staying in the Hotel Boulderado, you can't go wrong just heading downstairs for dinner.
