It's OK but not great for Boulder. The expecations are high here and this place is pretty pedestrian and not particularly affordable. I will go back if that's what a friend or partner wants, but it won't be my idea.

Top-notch, consistent, fast service and great food. This is my favorite place to go when I'm too tired for a 2-4 hour fine dining experience, but really want some good food. If you tell the staff you are in a hurry, they can have you through a full meal in 45 minutes and the food rivals most fine dining restaurants. They always have specials, so I never get tired of the menu and the atmosphere is so cozy. Love it.
(5)Adam B.
Great neighborhood spot. We go all the time when we don't feel like cooking or after my kid's sporting events. Food is way better than average for a bar-type restaurant and lots of sports on the TVs. Can get crowded at times but in literally dozens of visits I've never once experienced the bad service mentioned in some reviews. Great vegetarian options, specials, and atmosphere. The table-side magician, Lamont, on Thursdays is amazing.

Had a gift certificate for birthday dinner. Murphy's is situated in the back of the shopping center, so a bit secluded. Typical bar/restaurant, but good food and drink specials. Adequate seating for small or large groups. Had the sesame salmon, very good flavor. Good hangout location.

Ugh..what happened? Maybe it was a bad lunch day... Our waiter seemed distant, as though his planned mountain bike ride later was going to be squashed by incoming bad weather. The soup served to my wife was watery, and pretty much forgettable. I thought I was getting a club sandwich, which turned out looking like an Arbys reject. When I quizzed our waiter on the club sando, he just seemed elsewhere, like how he was going to make up for the impending lost bike ride. We've been coming to Murphy's for years. We hope this is not their future..
(2)Paul K.
Ordered 4 things, 2 were mediocre, chicken was dry, one item we had to send back because it was burnt (and the waiter argued that it was the way it was supposed to be). All items were overpriced and service was below average. Waiter came out of the restaurant to glare at us for leaving a 10% tip.

I really want to love Murphy's. It's within walking distance to where I live. I really want to. But I don't, in fact I hate it. I've tried Murphy's probably 6 times (I know, I'm an idiot). One time I had an OK experience, but other than that it's truly been terrible. The food is always good but overpriced, the service is always wretched. I mean bad. Horrible. Rude, distant, forget about your table EVERY time you come, kinda wait staff. Once, the bar tender told me I couldn't sit at the bar because all the seats were taken, although there were like 6 open seats, so I sat at a small table right by the bar. Guess who was occupying the seemingly vacant seats.... the wait staff. They were just finishing their shift and they had the whole bar reserved for them. Interesting... Good customer service? So last night I went in there with my boyfriend, because I apparently can't get enough of this craptastic service. It started out really good actually, but then.... we saw our server when she took our food order and picked up our app plate. That was the last time we saw her.... I mean that was it. We ate our food, didn't get our drinks refilled (although we both wanted another beer), and waited, and waited, and waited. So finally we stop someone when they walk by, tall girl with short dark hair. We asked her for our bill and let her know we hadn't seen our server since the app plate was picked up. Instead of apologizing or doing anything remotely nice, she shot us a dirty look, said "oh," and that was it. So we ended up guestimating our bill and leaving cash to pay. I regret that, we should have just left, I mean what were we even paying for? I will never be back, I promise this time, I've given them more chances than they deserve.

Murphy's is a great local place! Just go and enjoy a relaxed evening. They have good happy hour specials and their staff is quite friendly. We live near by and love it.
(5)Mr. W.
This place is my cheers! I love the low key atmosphere, and the consistent comfort food options. Their bar area is no reservation and has lots of seating and is always playing whatever sporting events are going on. They are always rotating new plates and drink options, and they have some great cocktails. Also, this is the Best Late Night Happy Hour I've encountered. IF it's after 9 o'clock this is a great place to come for a drink! I frigging love it here!
(5)Daphne Q.
We love Murphy's! Great atmosphere and good food that is above your normal bar food. Family friendly and had s great happy hour.
(5)Sambo S.
I've had pretty good burgers and sweet potato fries here twice in the past and decent service sitting directly at the bar - although it had been several months. So, I went there last night and got the worst fish tacos and service I've ever experienced anywhere from a waitress named Stephanie. The service was very impatient and negligent, and it wasn't even busy! The tacos had a weird spice to them that wasn't described in the menu. I told my friends about it later, who both agreed that the service and food there has gone down hill lately. I will not be back there for a very long time!
(1)Sepideh M.
I am a Murphy's regular because my son can eat here. The service can be slow, and the food quality can be somewhat inconsistent. But typically, Murphy's is really good at comfort food. I usually enjoy their burrito or their burgers. They also have a magician during happy hour on (I think) Tuesday nights.
(4)J. M.
Friendly vibes, good food, dependable. I especially like the fish and chips.
(4)Tyler G.
I'm not that into sports, but was challenged with finding a place where my whole family could meet for dinner and beer while watching a football game. This place did just that, and I appreciate its layout. Service was a little lacking, but maybe it's because where we were sitting. I ordered the meatloaf which interested me because of the mix of meats, including pork. It was good. However, my mother didn't like her food and neither did my lady.
(3)Jim I.
Food and drinks did not disappoint. It was one of the few places in Boulder that carried Yukon Jack. It was very cozy as well. If I lived here, this would be my neighborhood hang out.
(4)Poornima F.
The service was slow, but it might have been because it was St. Patrick's day, and we were the only ones in the patio. Their menu is the same as Murphy's South where I happened to go a couple weeks ago. I enjoyed the Irish coffee (though it wasn't the best I've ever had), and would also recommend the Thai coconut curry.
(4)Robert H.
If you like mediocre food, slow service and zero hospitality I highly recommend you try this restaurant. Spoke to Host about slow service, 20 minutes to get a salad--food just passable. Try Denny's you like it better!
(1)Allie b.
This is a great neighborhood resturant ! The food is great, and the people are real. I'm usually guaranteed a good time whenever I go there. And if you play their menu right you can get out for pretty cheap! 4 stars for Murphy's because it's a restaurant and they have good days and bad days bout over all this place rocks!
(4)Amanda M.
I went here a couple of days ago with a friend on her suggestion. It was okay I guess. I noticed that almost nothing was under $10, which I thought was a little odd because it looks like an old Bennigan's. I got the chicken sandwich ($10) and I remember eating it all- I was STARVING- but I can't really tell you much else about it. The menu wasn't very exciting and had things like sandwiches, salads, and nachos. I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to eat here again.
(3)Carmel U.
I like this place. We've come here twice already, both on weekends after 9pm and find that it doesn't get too crowded. We like that there is a happy hour menu that is available after 9pm, too! The well drinks are strong and do the job. We also liked trying out some of the cocktails on their bar menu. We ate dinner once here and found it to be very good, but a little on the pricey side. Overall, we like the food and always encounter the same bartender/server ands she is always very nice. I'm curious about their brunch and will need to come back and give it a shot!
(4)Nelissa M.
My husband and I come here semiweekly for either dinner or happy hour. Murphy's is a great neighborhood bar and grill. This place is like our Cheers! Everyone who works here is friendly, inviting, and helpful. The late-night happy hour is one of the best deals in Boulder. Half-off almost all drinks and inexpensive small plates. Some of the small plates, like the nachos and bangers, are meals in themselves. The wings also have a nice little kick. I've eaten almost everything on the menu and would highly recommend the fiesta steak salad (that comes with homemade chipotle dressing), the prime rib, and the ribs. The food is always delicious and satisfying. A big sell for me is that they have great cocktails that constantly change depending on the season. My current favorite is the Pear Martini. In the summer, you can sit outside on the patio, which abuts a quiet town home complex. Come here!
(5)Lyn Y.
I've been meaning to review this place for quite a while... I've been back many times. Most of all, I really love the back patio which is relaxing and romantic....decorated with white Christmas lights! I've never been disappointed by the food here, no matter what I order! Mussels, Bloody Mary's, Trout, Lamb Gyro....all amazing and reasonably priced.... It's really nice to have a place to go with a guaranteed nice atmosphere and guaranteed awesome food!
(4)Shelly K.
First and last time there. Service was slow. Food/Beer horrible. First the beer came out flat. Then the calamari came out rubbery and overcooked. Then when the food was delivered, the waitress handed me a plate, that she forgot to mention was burning hot, then the food eaten immediately made me sick. While the beer was replaced as was the calamari, it took forever (and most likely, should have been comped). I hear their happy hour is good. Their dining experience was not.
(2)Lee g.
Wrote a review a week ago on the poor service my friend and I received at Murphy's . My review is not here anymore. Interesting that Yelp can pick and choose which reviews to keep!
(1)Amy F.
One of our favorites for Sunday brunch, Murphy's serves above-average food without any pretentious Boulder attitude. It's a family pub-type setting with "Murphy's Law" signs throughout. The wait staff can be a bit slow, but in our experience they have always been friendly and kept our glasses full. The best thing about Murphy's, in my opinion, is the diversity of the menu. My mom can get Mr Bob's steak sandwich- on garlic bread- while my grandmother can get tacos and I can split eggs benedict with my hubby. I also adore their cranberry lemonade! We have never been disappointed with anything we've ordered.
(5)Shelby D.
Originally this place didn't seem too bad, but the more that my girlfriend and I have come here it seems really hit or miss with service and the food. Not to mention overall it seems a bit overpriced at times for what you get.
(3)Katherine G.
Have been here a few times and this place is really a hit or miss. Food isn't bad, though it's nothing to rave about, but it is way overpriced for what you get. 95% of the time the service is horrible here. Went here last night with my boyfriend and our waitress straight up was purposely ignoring us. Not really sure why, we both ordered a good amount of food and drinks, so got stuck with a $67 tab and no service. Decent wings though!
(2)Shawn R.
Murphy's is my kind of place I've eaten here twice a month for several years and never been disappointed by the food or the service. Its an excellent locally owned pub/restaurant perfect for casual business lunches. The menu offers daily specials and the beer selection is great. Its decorated in "Early Irish Pub" with Murphy's Law slogans all over the place. I love the Buffalo Chili, the Chicken Caesars is always a winner and the fish and chips are excellent. During the summer ask to be sat on the patio its quiet and full of plants a great way to soak up the Boulder rays and enjoy a great meal.
(5)Lindsey R.
Best eggs florentine ever!! Sat on the patio with friends, sipped an awesome Bloody Mary- what a great Sunday!
(5)Kathryn H.
My breakfast was pretty standard. They were able to accomodate my gluten sensitivity, with grits and fruit instead of potatoes, toast, and coffee cake. Other than that, it was decent, our server was pleasant, and she kept the refills and requests coming. For those without gluten sensitivity, they received a lot of food for a reasonable price. It wasn't the best, but it was not bad, either. As the three stars indicate, it is an A-OK place.
(3)Lee W.
Favorite late dinner neighborhood restaurant. Any earlier and it's packed. Love the friendly staff. Always trying new items, always dependable!
(5)J M.
We've been going here for years for the burgers, however never again. By the time the server brought my burger and fries out of the kitchen, the fries were cold. The chef then sent out a plate of blackened fries, which looked inedible so they went back too. The third batch of sweet potato fries were hot but mushy. Asked for a medium burger, but it was raw in the middle and only lightly grilled on the exterior. We inquired if the chef was new or having a bad day--server said he had been there a while. No apologies for anything, not even comped for the lousy fries.
(1)Connor D.
- Vegetarian Review - Starting off: I am not a huge pub/bar/American fan when it comes to the food. Murphy's is one of the few places I can actually find something to eat, and has impressed me in this food category. They have a nice international flair to
(3)Rebecca J.
I love their happy hours...Both of them! Wait staff, and greeters are super friendly. The bartender is a bit of a sourpuss today. Pricing is very affordable. During nice weather, the back patio is lovely. Drinks are yummy. The only downside to my visit is the bleu cheese dressing. Its watery/runny with no chunks of bleu cheese. Oh, and the sourpuss bartender. Luckily the rest of the super friendly staff made my visit quite enjoyable.
(4)Terry G.
I stopped in here for lunch because I had a coupon. The place is nice, casual sort of Cheers type enviroment. I ordered the Taos Chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was delicious, chicken breast with avacado, poblanos, cheese and chipotle mayo. I enjoyed my lunch and I could see Murphy's as a comfortable place to have a cold one. The service was okay and the atmosphere seemed laid back.
(4)Jane D.
We were disappointed with the nachos, slightly burnt, no meat, just a bunch of beans and cheese and a couple jalapeños from a can. I could have made better at home. This place is going down hill their menu has tanked and the quality is not what it used to be.
(1)Paul T.
How this place has a good rating is beyond me. The food was terrible, the Rueben was chewy seeming boiled meat devoid of flavor. The burger was a generic party, and apparently they have no idea what medium is. We sent the first burger back because it was nearly blue rare and the replacement was also very rare. How do you fuck up a burger? You employ chefs with no skill or creativity. The fish and chips where equally shit. Dreadful. Our server Andrew was good and gave me a free beer because deep down he knows the food isn't fit for even animal consumption. Kudos Andrew.
(1)Ka B.
My advice: Only go here for alcoholic beverages, hamburgers, steaks, regular french fries, and happy hour wings. But for anything else STAY far far AWAY. Don't even try the sweet potato fries. They came burnt and I don't even know how the cook willingly let those go out to people. It should be embarassing how terrible they were.
(2)Phil J.
It's open late so it's got that going for it. If you have to eat, stick with something simple like chips and salsa. Or a salad is a safe bet. You're gonna need all your lucky leprechauns for anything cooked.
(2)Austin C.
Don't eat the Reuben. The worst piece of Corned Beef that I have seen in a decade. And the waitress didn't care.
(1)Gail N.
First time in Boulder my daughter and I saw the reviews on yelp and thought we would try it. We both had a local beer upslope lager. Very nice light beer then we had the special grilled chicken pasta it was very good. great little waitress.
(4)john w.
I've been going to Murphy's for years and they have always been consistent. The food is better than your average pub fare and they have a great happy hour. Pros: Good food, beer selection, mostly friendly staff, three big screen TV's in the bar area, clean, and $1 dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth Cons: Decor is a little outdated I would honestly give Murphy's 4.5 stars because of the decor but since I have to give whole stars I'll round up to 5.
(5)Marty D.
Friendly professional bar staff.......not so much, but they do have one of the best happy hour menus-cocktails-draft choices in Boulder.
(4)Fred W.
I ate there on a Sat. night, around 9PM,it was not full. The service was excellent I had Fish and Chips and a beer. I thought the fish was very fresh flakey and good tasting. All in all, I think the test is weather one would go back.. the answer is YES. There are a lot of conflicting reviews of this place, and I can imagine that on a particular night the service can get spotty , as the place is bigger that I imagined. all in all, its a good choice for a casual meal. The menu has a pretty wide range and a good selection of local beers.
(4)J. E.
I've been coming here for 20+ years. I'm partial to this Murphy's, only because they are so close to my house. The one down south is just as good, but the decor is and atmosphere is more modern. When I just don't want to cook, or I'm craving time out, or I want something specific, I often come here. The meals I get are very consistent in quality. Yes, they recently upped their prices a bit, but for the quantity of food, I'm not complaining at all. I almost always end up getting two meals from one order. As for the service, I see some people have had some bad experiences. I'm so sorry to hear this! I've only had a couple of these in the last 20 + years, and usually it was when they were swamped, or short handed, or I had a new waitress/waiter. Only once have they messed up a carry out order, and unfortunately I was sick and could go back to get it fixed. I called the manager though and he sent me a gift certificate for a whole new meal. I've tried just about everything on the menu, but these are what I recommend the most: the Gorgonzola Chicken Salad (though I usually ask for it with steak), the Grilled Portabella sandwich, any of the burgers, the Tilapia fish tacos, the IPA Battered Fish & Chips, or one of my most favorites: The BBQ Ribs or the Chicken Saltimboca or the Crunchy Mustard Salmon. I have also had the trout a number of times, but since I'm allergic to walnuts they make with a Panko crust for me. Happy hour is pretty popular, though I do wish they had more food selections on the Happy Hour menu. Personally, I go for the fish tacos off that almost every time. They're pretty good for the price, though I usually double my order. They recently upped the number of taps for their draft beer selection too, which I say to that, "It's about time, and thank you!" I also don't have a TV at home, so if I want to watch some sports, I come here, especially during the baseball playoffs and World Series games when the Cardinals are playing. I can always find fellow fans here. Murphy's North is not what I'd call fine dining, but it's pretty reasonable for the portion sizes and fairly consistent too. I just wish they had better desserts and more of a selection. They take all major credit cards and you can be sure you'll never have them stolen.

We came here before 5 p.m. to get a table before the place filled up. Despite ordering before other tables that came in and were sat after us, three of those tables received their food before our food finally arrived at the table. During the longer than usual wait, we had to flag down another server to get more drinks. When the food did arrive, my order of veggie lettuce wraps and crab cakes arrived looking awful. The lettuce wrap was wilted and had spots on the lettuce leaves. The crab cake sat in a puddle of oil but was cold in the middle. When I asked to speak to the manager, a lame excuse was offered up for the delay in getting the food to our table. The owner's dog had died and the kitchen was short staffed because of that. It seems like a long established restaurant like Murphy's should be able to offer up better food and service.

Been here twice, once for brunch once for dinner. Great prices on alcohol (Bloody Mary was delicious and a decent beer selection), lamb burger was on point (goat cheese mmmm), and Greek salad had all the yummy components. Service was also really nice and helpful for us first timers. Seems like a bit of a locals crowd, but didn't feel exclusive! Happy to have this place within walking distance :)

My bf and I LOVE this place. He loves their burgers and cheese fries, and I love their salads and quesidillas. The service is always friendly and fast, the decor is cozy, and there is no pressure to rush in and out of there. It's also a little quieter than the average restaurant. I also love that they have good variety on their menu - when I have visitors it's a place I often bring them for one meal out of a weekend visit because there is something there to please everyone.

I like this place for food, I could care less about the bar, they have an OK beer selection, but I think the food is a tad better than your standard bar.

I've enjoyed all of my trips here so far. I think I've been here three times. The prices seem high on some items but affordable meals can be found, especially during happy hour. They also have a late happy hour. I really liked the pork ribs I got there last time and a specialty salad I got there a previous time. A friend I went with last time said he really liked the wings. I really like the way the interior is done and the services is good. It is a little laid back, so if I wanted to get out of there quickly I might flag down my server.

This review is regarding the food only (not the bar). Last few times I went, my (buffalo) burger was awful. Wings are decent....but thats about it. But considering the rest of the menu and it's prices, There are much better places in Boulder for the same price (and less). Place is very noisy.

Excellent food and service but owners and staff are VERY confused about the definition of GLUTEN FREE FOOD. No dedicated fryer for their "Gluten Free Fries" this is a joke and causes people a lot of un-needed pain. Get it right Murphy's. We love you (and especially Lamont on Thursday nights). A dedicated fryer would be great or educate your staff about the term gluten free and how it differs from people who choose to "think" they're gluten intollerent. PLEASE fix it so we can come back to your wonderful restaurant.

This place is the Cheer's of north Boulder. Very warm and friendly staff, and the food's good as well. Stop in for a pint to watch the Buffs in the fall or enjoy the beautiful patio in the summer.

This if for Murphys at TABLE MESA. First time I was there and I thought the food was excellent at a good price. For $12 had a super chicken curry with a good-sized portion. Warning though - alcoholic drinks are pricey. A draft at $4.50 and a margarita [standard] at $8

So, I think I've given Murph's South a review already, but I'll recheck that after posting this one. I've been going to Murphy's North on and off for 20 years; it's a neighborhood joint and I like to support local businesses, and it's less of a carbon footprint for me to go there (only about a mile away). I had quit going for a long time tho, as it had been feeling, well, rather blah, menu and decor-wise. However, it's really improved, well, sort of. The decor is still pretty much the same -- they put in some new booth coverings, new flat screen TVs (like I care about those), and new carpet at some point before I started coming back; still, I think it could use more spiffing up, to make it even more appealing. But then again, it's got a certain homey charm. Love the patio when the weather is good. The reason I started going back to the North location is really for the food and the service. When they opened the South establishment, they redid the menu at both locales. Greatly improved offerings - THANKS! The service is pretty darn good most of the time too. Only occasionally do they slip up, but not enough to bother me, since I'm a regular. Really liking the beer selection too. Murphy's offer good food and good sized meals for your money, except for the desserts. Here they have failed, but only recently so. About a year ago, I and others had ordered desserts following our meals and the portion sizes were commensurate with the price. Now, I don't think so. The past 3 times I've ordered dessert, the portions have been WAY smaller and not as good either. I finally complained about it a few nights back and sent it back. The waiter took it back and told the manager. He brought it back out to me and gave it to me for free. I took it home and when I did eat it the next day, I wasn't impressed. I think they need a new dessert chef.

I ate at the South Boulder location a few weeks ago and it was pretty good (maybe 3 1/2 stars). I ordered the same appetizer that I ordered at the other location- the crab cakes were overcooked this time and not as mouth-watering as they were at the South Boulder restaurant (3 stars). I've had the chicken saltimboca (2 stars- too salty here, the South location was decent), the salmon burger (4 stars- very good, but I don't ever crave it), and the fish and chips (4 stars) My biggest complaint this time was the service. Our waitress was completely inattentive and unfriendly. She never made eye contact, never smiled, disappeared for nearly a half hour.... Another waitress filled our glasses with water when we asked... We never did get the check, so finally I went in to find someone to help us... It had been so long since we saw our waitress that I forgot what she looked like! When she came out, she stood there, unsmiling, and said "yeah?".... We'd had empty plates for over 20 minutes, and no check.... I think it should have been obvious what we needed. When she came back she put the check on the table and left without saying a word. I had wanted to order dessert but after the absence of our waitress for so long I decided I didn't want to wait an hour for the dessert to arrive. I think this waitress was also acting as the bartender today (we were there at 2:00 for lunch today, so it wasn't busy). --Just in case she reads this, she can know who she is. All in all, in this trip, the food was mediocre, and the service was terrible.

Call it poor sociology/anthropology, but I find my review colored by those here who have gone before me. I like Murphy's, maybe not 5 star like, but it could be a 4 star. But then I consider my other reviews and places I truly consider 4 or 5 stars, and then Murphy's falls down a bit. So, if I could contextualize Murphy's, I'd give it 4 stars for a decent, local, homely pub. Boulder is awash in places that are full of themselves, but few places really carry the joie de vivre necessary to substantiate their claims. Murphy's, I think, makes few claims, but does an honest job of serving drinks and a good dish or two (try their off menu green chile tortilla soup). So in my search for a place that feels "comfortable" in Boulder, Murphy's gets a review through rose colored glasses. I disagree with the comments on service. Maybe it's because I go with a group of regulars for a Friday afternoon "executive" lunch, but we get served promptly and in a friendly manner. They're more than happy to customize our orders and the staff is always up for a little conversation. I don't know what more you want. This isn't a 3 star michelin restaurant, it's a pub in a strip mall, set your expectations accordingly. Murphy's in South Boulder is a bit upscale but basically the same menu. I'll go for the pub in the strip mall.

Went here for dinner with my girlfriend the other day. The decorum was great, especially the quotes written on the walls. Pleasant atmosphere, but our waitress was very slow to get our order and fill it even though business was slow at the time and she only had a few customers. We had hot wings for an appetizer, whih were decious. However when our food came my bison and pork meatloaf was burnt and my girlfriends steak was overcooked(medium when it was suppose to be rare). Id be willing to try it again, but I would only order something the cook cant screw up.

I've eaten here often enough I thought I'd already written a review. My visit today caused to me to check reviews; so sad for them. Past visits have been, well, nothing short of adequate. Not bad, but not good enough to talk about. Today I met a business associate for lunch so we could catch up and plan a presentation. The server was friendly enough, and checked on us frequently. However, she didn't write down our orders. In Boulder, this often isn't a big deal, as there are enough MBAs and PhDs waiting tables. Our server wasn't one of them. It took repeated reminders to get our drinks served and my companion's cup of soup became a bowl of soup. Ok, we're all human, I've probably done worse. My steak sandwich, cut in half, each half was the diameter of an Oreo cookie. The cow who provided the steak must have lived an unhappy life, and a long one. On the plus side, the french fries were quite good. Murphy's isn't horrible, or even bad. It's just not great. I'm sure I'll eat here again, and have pangs of regret later.

Ehhh! Just 3 stars (I was going to give 2 stars, but the Patio is great in the Spring/Summer). We went here once a week back in the late '90s. Then, something went horribly wrong . . . no, not the Depression/Recession/Repression! They changed their cooks and wait staff. The food is okay, but for almost $10/entree, I expect some taste, not warmed-up Weight Watchers' dinners. The service is painfully S L O W . There are better choices in Boulder for Pub food--like the Jiffy Burger at The Dark Horse! Peanut butter and hamburger? Yeah Baby!

Bad experience. Server was unfriendly and when I expressed a concern about the food she didn't apologize or offer to get a manager. I ordered spaghetti for $10, and it was like it was meant for a small child. I finished in about four bites. The sauce tasted like it was manufactured and dumped into a can, Chef Boyardee-style. It made me question if they just have a huge freezer and a row of microwaves back there in the kitchen. The salad I ordered was also teensy. I left having paid $20 (I only drank water) for a meal that didn't taste good or satisfy my appetite. They also don't apparently care because I didn't receive any communication from them following this review.

Maybe I've just been lucky. My first try was a dinner on the way back to Colorado Springs from Estes Park. Everything was really yummy. My daughter (picky teen) actually ate all her meal (Chicken Saltimbocca). My steak was cooked perfectly and that doesn't happen often. Last week I was in Louisville for a meeting and just had to take one of my employees there for lunch and it was wonderful. He had the corned beef and cabbage. Good serving size and a very lean cut. I had the chicken this time and it was just as wonderful as before. Since this was a business/working lunch (laptop open, papers everywhere) I was concerned about the service but they really were very accommodating. Thoroughly enjoyable.

I was very impressed by our meal here. I expected basic pub food, but this was anything but. Our spinach and artichoke dip appetizer was very tasty. It was served with carrots, celery and toasted focaccia. It was a nice change from toasted pita and/or tortilla chips. I had the Mediterranean quesadilla. The pesto made it somewhat soggy in the center, but it was still flavorful. The cucumber dill dressing that came with it was a nice accompaniment. My friend had the salmon BLT. I thought the idea of this was great. I never understood just your basic BLT, but add another meat (or fish) and now you're talking! She reported the sandwich to be quite good....as evidenced by her empty plate. The fries that came with her sandwich were crispy and delicious. Everything was served very hot and they gave us plenty of time between courses. I thought we would be rushed since we walked in less than an hour before closing, but that was not the case. For what seems like a small town pub, the food here is really quite exceptional.

A classic Boulder joint. Part-Irish pub, part-family restaurant, Murphy's serves up a mishmash of cuisine, from classic pub burgers and deep-fried appetizers to Mexican food and gyros and stir fries. If you go there, definitely try the smallest dessert in town. They're not kidding. If you're lucky, snare a table on the back patio. The inside is cool, with kitschy trinkets throughout and sports on the tube, but the back patio is like a hidden garden. It's also adjacent to the best tattoo parlor in town, Bolder Ink.

This review is for the South Boulder location, didn't see separate listings. I have been several times and keep hoping that it will get better. Their happy hour is pretty good, especially on the drinks side of things. Beyond happy hour things fall pretty short. While most of the menu seems well thought out, when the food is actually presented it falls pretty short. Everything tastes as though it was frozen, thawed and plopped on a plate. The service has been pretty hit or miss as well. While I have generally had good servers the host situation is pretty bad. Once the host informed us of a 20 minute wait, which is fine as we were a larger group. Twenty minutes came and went, all the while the elderly couple we were with weren't even offered a seat to wait in, despite their oxygen tank and cane. Around the 45 minute mark we started to get antsy, by the time an hour passed we were seated. Other times we have gone in the young hosts have been scantily clad to the point of shock. And I don't shock easily. I just can't imagine working while continually pulling my clothing to cover up my bits. All in all, it is fine to grab a drink but avoid full dinners and expect mediocracy.

Not bad - not good either.... Certain people (like me) love good food of any variety including the bar & grill sort. Certain people (like me) swear they're not going to get suckered in by a coupon - but do anyway and then regret it. We had an OK meal of typical bar food: Caesar salad, chicken wings, penne pasta with "vodka sauce" and chicken, and desert. Caesar was good lettuce with some sort of bottled Caesar dressing. Waitress looked at me like I was crazy when I asked for anchovy for the salad. Wings were good - hot temp but not quite hot enough on the spice. Pasta, well I should know better, should'a stuck with a burger or a chicken sandwich and fries - but no it was the special and vodka sauce can be great if done right - so I took the big risk and it did NOT pay off. Overcooked pasta in mild sauce, almost bland, with large hunks of canned tomato topped by a tepid piece of tasteless white chicken breast with slight grill marks. Instantly you experience the "I coulda done better at home with a jar of sauce" feeling. The place fells good in a "Cheers" sorta way with a big screen TV with sports on it but the service was not up to friendly bar standards. I'm not looking for effusive or jokes, or life stories - just something other than curt.

I eat at Murphy's more than any other restaurant in Boulder. Granted, I live just a few blocks away, so it's easy. But I'd drive from Denver to get their Wasabi-crusted salmon salad. It is so freaking good. Great beer selection, wine selection, patio. You can watch the game, or not. Yummy veggie options (though not the most healthy options). They've just added a great classic cocktail menu. The owners are true supporters of their community and great guys. There is something here for everyone, and they do it all well.

Two words...buffalo burger. Can you believe I was a vegetarian for 9 years??? I may go back someday, but I love that fact that, of all things, the veggie movement has pushed the meat industry for high quality and healthier meat. I believe that this place is a chain, but it beats going to Chili's or any other crap-ola grease trap out there. Boulder would be perfect if it only had a beach, but it does have perfect burgers.

We recently went to Murphy's after a long time away..always seemed just "OK" but we decided to give it another try. I had the crusted salmon and it was delicious, but the potatoes appeared old and ugly and were not tasty. My husband had sweet potato fries and a burger and said it was "ok". He had an errant chicken wing on his plate which I ate, and wished I had ordered as it was pretty good. Our waitress was mechanical and provided the expected service but I can't go so far as to say she was friendly. Our problem, and the reason for only 2 stars instead of 3, was the lack of managing the restaurant by a manager...or any staff member for that matter. There was another couple there with 3 kids, all under the age of 7 I'd guess. They ran around the restaurant in their bare feet yelling, playing, wrestling, and carrying on throughout our entire meal. I was quite dumbfounded as I observed their parents sitting at their table enjoying their wine, completely ignoring their children. This went on throughout our entire meal, from about 7 to 8 PM. I noted the disruption on the "remarks" section of our bill, but was not contacted by anyone from Murphy's afterwards. On our way out, we told the hostess that we would have enjoyed our meal a lot more if they had not allowed the 3 ring circus with the kids to go on, at the expense of other paying customers. The hostess looked at me completely stone-faced and said, "There's really nothing I can do about that." (Translation: "Tell somebody who cares.") REALLY?! I don't know what bothers me more, the sense of "entitlement" of the parents to allow their children to reek havoc on other paying customers who were also trying to enjoy a night out, or the fact that not one staff member at Murphy's took it upon themselves to address the situation - therefore showing a lack of respect and consideration for all of the other customers. FAIL. Won't be back... I don't care how good that chicken wing was!

Though I hadn't been to Murphy's for years, I once really liked it and it was definitely one of my go-to places in my 'hood for a long time. So recently when some people at a seminar I was attending wanted to do lunch at Murphy's, I eagerly went along. New menu. Looks good on paper. Wasabi Salmon Salad was excellent. No complaints there. Iced tea was nice & strong, which is how I like it. Fresh-brewed. The reasons for star reduction are: one star off for waitress who couldn't be bothered with refilling iced teas for several people who ordered them at our table, even when asked. She was eager to add in a mandatory 18% tip, though, after providing us only with the bare minimum of service in a near-empty restaurant. Although I appreciate the honesty, another star off for the ranch dressing which the staff told us contained MSG. That MSG is nasty stuff. I really do like the food at Murphy's, and they have a lovely patio too. In a way, the good kind of outweighs the not-so-good.

I've gone here a few times- once for lunch and twice for drinks after work. With the exception of one guy, the servers were terrible. They were unfriendly and neglectful. It was like we were an inconvenience for her. I will not be going here again.
(1)Matthew M.
The food we ordered is a bit pricey and so-so. We got the nachos and the Pasta a la Murphy. Not the best. Not the worst. They are great to new-comers. Let them know if this is your first time and they may just cover your drink order. Not sure if I'll be going back just due to the price and mediocre food. The service was good.
