I went to Gurkhas pretty much every day when I was still living in Boulder. In fact, I was prompted to write this review following a conversation about how much we missed it. No better fast eat-in take-out Indian option anywhere I've lived since. Plus, their staff is crazy nice and the portions are huge!

This is an AWESOME place for takeout! Starving after hiking and sad after realizing I had no food left in my fridge, I found this place on Yelp and proceeded to order a veritable feast. I ordered through Yelp - first time doing so - and my food came without a hitch a mere 15 minutes later! I was delighted, since the estimated time had been 45 minutes. Better yet, all the food was still steaming hot! I got pakora, chicken momos, and saag paneer with garlic naan. Yes, it was a lot for one person, but it was able to sustain me for three meals. The pakora, crisp fried vegetable fritters, are delicious and come with two sauces. The momo are very similar to Chinese dumplings, but have a thinner skin. They come with a spicy tomato sauce that is different from what I'm what I'm used to (soy sauce and vinegar), but actually makes for a very tasty accompaniment. The saag paneer is mildly flavored but pairs great with the Indian rice and naan. I found myself digging for the paneer chunks! I think I picked the second spiciest option for everything, and let me tell you, it's HOT. If you have a low spice tolerance, definitely choose mild. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I have had better Indian food elsewhere, but for a takeout place, Gurkhas is still awesome. Gurkhas on the Hill more than satisfied my Indian food cravings. The food is delicious, and the service is great. I'll be ordering from them again for sure!

90 minutes to get my food and they say it's normal when I've ordered more than 30-40 times from them. I regret even ordering from them. 90 minutes? normal? seriously? I'm sure I'll get my food cold and it's going to taste bland.

I ordered delivery and they came pretty quick, within 30-45 minutes. I was really pleased with my food. The cheese naan is was fresh tasting. Everything tasted like it was made to order. I'm so pleased that they have spice level options for many of their dishes. I am sensitive to too much spice, so I am able to enjoy myself here. I'm looking forward to trying all the other types of naan this place has to offer. Notes to Self: Mango Lassi: Excellent get again Cheese Naan: Pretty good, definitely get again Mild Lamb Vindaloo:Greasy meat wasn't tender, don't bother. Just get chicken it's cheaper Pakora: Not worth the heartburn it wasn't crunchy came soggy Samosa: Came crunchy pretty good. But I prefer meat filled.

Their delivery was fast and delicious! Quantity served was just right with a little left over for later. I ordered the chicken tikka masala as a main course, which at medium spice was a touch hotter than I expected, but still great. Rice helped round this down a notch heat-wise. The samosas were generous and filling, with perfect seasoning all around. The butter naan was just...naan. Don't get me wrong, it was quite tasty, but I didn't get any butteriness out if it, per se. I will definitely order from here again whenever I am back in town.

The food here is great and the staff is friendly! However, the decor is in the style of "cafeteria dungeon". Get it to go!

I love Gurkhas on the hill! Best delivery food in Boulder hands down. Delicious Tikka Masala and the best naan. Its flavorful, never too spicy, and they have good fast service

Went here yesterday for lunch, pretty great. The only thing I would suggest to Gurkhas is to make it an option to create a combination lunch, such as tikka masala with saag paneer, or something like that - little combo plates. It took longer than I was expecting, but not too long. The food was delicous. Just enough spice for me on the 3 level. And I would DIE if you guys do a lamb korma. Will go again for sure.

We went on a Saturday afternoon and it took 25 min to get our food, including the naan appetizer. My sister ordered lamb chow chow and asked for the mildest option, but it was still too spicy. The guy at the counter said she had definitely been given mild (he verified this by checking the receipt, not the actual food...um, ok) and said all he could do was give her some yogurt, which he then didn't do. He didn't offer to make her something else, or give her a refund. Basically she was SOL. He also refused to add lamb to the aloo gobi for some reason. The rest of the food was ok (the tikka masala was a little tomato-y), but the prices were not amazing at $8-10/plate and the service sucked. Not worth it.

We waited 2 1/2 hours for our food last night. Granted the weather was bad and they were super busy, but it still took a really long time. I called a few times and the people on the phone were very understanding. At first they offered a free entree on our next order, which would have been enough. When the food still did not come I called to just cancel the order. Instead of canceling it they delivered the food and refunded my purchase. A good Free meal, albeit cold, and quality customer service gets these guys 4 stars in my book. I'll be eating here again on the basis or courtesy alone

Crazy good food for a low price. Everything is spicy so bring tums. It's worth the burn. The veg chow chow noodles are amazing. The portions are also huge like for 2-3 people.

Delicious take-out, will be calling again! The saag paneer was spicy just like I ordered .

This is my favorite place in Boulder for North Indian food. I've never eaten in, just ordered delivery at least a dozen times. Food has always been hot when it arrived. Excellent flavors, very distinct from dish to dish, and more generous portions than other places. Pretty spicy at level four; level five will really make you sweat. The dishes I like best are Chicken Tikka Masala, Daal, Channa Masala, Saag Paneer and Subji Masala. They also have a variety of delicious chutneys, with the chili chutney as a real standout. Good stuff!

zomg these samosas. so good. I ordered some delivery from Gurkhas this evening and these samosas. zomg. potatoes, fennel seed, peas, salt, fried. The tamarind & mint sauces also added a lot of flave. so good. My lamb tikka masala was tender and the medium spicy was the perfect heat. Good work. The garlic naan? Pretty good, not my fave. Maybe I chose the wrong flavor? Did I just admit how much I ate? Alone? In my hotel room? ....I mean I shared all of this with at least 3 other people*. *not true.

Great Indian food. I got the lamb wrap which was a very generous size and lots and lots lamb meat. Not bad when you consider that most places charge you an arm for some lamb.

My last meal in Boulder for this trip and what a great finish! I had the lamb wrap. It was awesome. I got a medium spice level which was perfect for me. Lots of veggies, lots of flavor and plenty of lamb. Very inexpensive too. I am looking forward to returning if I get back to town.

Solid place, cheap, no frills....scary location. Give it a shot!

I got takeout from here the other night and it was just what my heart desired. I got the chicken tikka masala, which has the perfect amount of spice. I also had the garlic naan - super garlicky but that was quite alright with me. The samosas I ordered really hit the spot too, and were so full of flavor compared to those I've had from other establishments. The lady who helped us was very sweet, definitely a plus. I will be back, hands down.

This place is delicious. We got the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, saag, and chow chow chicken. We're so full because we couldn't stop eating. Solid.

  • Max H.

Some of the best Indian food, much less fast Indian food, that you can find. The ability to have chicken tikka masala wrapped in naan is nothing short of genius. There's a reason this place has survived in the little food court where almost everything else fails. Even if you're not a regular Indian food fan, get the chicken momo and branch out from there. Great for both lunch and dinner.

This is my new favorite place! It may not look all that traditional but their food is fantastic. It tastes more authentic than most of the very nice places in the Denver metro area. And the prices are very reasonable.

I ordered the lamb curry, and the meat was so badly cooked it made me want to become a vegetarian again. Tough, stringy, fatty, and with giant chunks of disgusting cartilage nearly making me gag. Would never order from here again.

This is what I'm talking about: delicious, authentic cuisine for under $9 made by people who know their stuff. Let me preface this by saying that, since moving to Boulder, my experience has been that restaurants specializing in "world cuisine" are overpriced and underwhelming because being trendy and having the right marketing approach comes before the authenticity of the experience. The world restaurants out here are about making suburban customers feel "safe" with new experiences. Yeah, no. I like my restaurants cheap and authentic, without any BS introductory dishes. If your menu isn't in English, that's a plus. Give me the stuff your grandma made. That's what Gurkhas on the Hill is about. Sure, their menu is in English and they have some light marketing touches to appeal to college students, but hot damn, their food is out of this world. No plate is over $9, and their wraps (more "naanwiches") are 7. We started our feast with crispy veggie pakoras with cilantro and red chutneys to dip them in, and they were DELICIOUS. I had a GIGANTIC portion of creamy, spicy Chicken Tikka Masala with fragrant basmati rice and pillowy butter naan about the size of a large pizza, cut into fourths because it was that big. My fiancee had the Lamb Chilli plate and had to constantly suck in air to cool his mouth down. Keep doin' what you're doin', Gurkhas. The rest will follow suit soon enough.

First time I went here I was like... meh... but second time (with spicy level high) it was actually pretty good. Totally worth it if you're on the hill On the other hand, Tiffins (new) is gonna give this place a serious run for its money

My husband said that it was the only place in Boulder where he had eaten food that was actually spicy. Very true. I always end up getting the chili lamb wrap when I come here. Even though everything on the menu looks really good, I can't bring myself to order anything else, or else risk being disappointed with something not as good, and missing out on the chili lamb wrap until whenever it is I go back.

Favorite Nepalese food EVER. So spicy it makes your eyes water and nose run AT THE SAME TIME. I LOVE IT.

So sexy spicy. I only get the chili lamb and bring myself to not order it.

I am a sucker for Indian food, and I have been lucky enough to regularly eat at some fantastic Indian restaurants. So when I heard much campus chatter about Ghurkas on the Hill, it immediately became a priority. I have now visited Ghurkas more times than I can presently count (including one night when I ordered delivery.) What I like so much about them is that not only do they serve darn good Indian food (like the samosas, for example), they serve it up in a very non-traditional way. I like to call them naan-whiches (actually I may have ripped that nickname off of someone...I can't remember!) You can select from an array of different Indian dishes (I highly, highly suggest the tikka masala) and depending on the dish you choose, they can wrap it in a piece of naan for you, essentially creating an Indian burrito. Oh, dear lord, are they good. Those naan-whiches have gotten me through many a lecture. Good news: they are within very short walking distance of the West campus, so you can get in and out pretty fast a midst the hustle and bustle of semester craziness if you're a student. Be forewarned, however: if you choose to go during lunch rush, realize that you'll be fighting for a limited number of tables with patrons of the other restaurants sharing the food court.

Gurkhas is the place I have been to, the most! Totally awesome!! It's the first name that pops in my mind when I am hungry!!! Love the food there! ^_^

I recently returned from India and have been disappointed at the Indian restaurants in Boulder as they all are much blander then the intense flavor that traditional Indian food in its native land is known for. I first went to Gurkha's and got only a samosa and chai. I was blown away at the flavor fulness of the samosa and the chai. They also gave me three different chutney's with no extra charge. I have been back multiple times since then, had wonderful service from the kind staff and the most delicious Indian I have had since being in India. It is also pretty fast, they serve your food up hot in about 10 minutes or less. The Channa Masala is to die for. Enjoy!

This is probably the worst Indian food experience I have ever had. The food is loaded with oil. I got a soup and the spoon was covered in orange oil when I dipped it in. The Saag Paneer had no flavor and was a creamy oily tasteless mess. We tried the veggie Momos too. They tasted pretty good but again, the filling was super oily. Also, they came out all broken-nothing like the pictures on yelp represent. My husband ordered the Tikka Masala which was the best dish we ordered but still not great. Tender chicken, though. Against my advise, he ate the whole plate..now he is not feeling too well. I recommend going elsewhere.

The food here is outstanding. It's always fresh and delicious. The prices are fantastic, too. I highly recommend this place. My favorite dish right now is the Lamb Jalfrezi. It's in an off-campus food court. In the tables closest to the entrance I've been able to get free wifi most of the times I've tried.

This is my favorite place for Indian delivery in Boulder. Good spice levels and very flavorful. My husband always orders the chicken tikka masala and I always order the chicken chili.

In my opinion this is the best restaurant for vegetarian food in town. I love the veggie chili wrapped in naan with a little of their house sauce and mint. Momos are also really delicious. They use very high quality ingredients here, and it really shows. Here's a tip: bring your own silverware. Their plastic forks and knives are the flimsiest ever.

Had the Tikka Masala. It was very good at a reasonable price. Wish they used silverware instead of plasticware.

Best Indian food in Boulder! When you request spicy, it's actually spicy! And quite tasty. Can't say the same for the rest of Boulder's Indian/Nepalese restaurants. And it's cheap too! One of my favorite places in Boulder. The downside is that it's located in the international food court, which is kind of...dingy? I wish they were opened later, cuz my cravings kick in around 11pm and the stomach wants what the stomach wants.

  • Raemuz T.

Whoever said there were 9 dollar plates must have been on crack, there's no entree on the menu below $12. That being said, if you're looking for some FANTASTIC Indian food and don't mind spending a couple of dollar signs, you should stop on by, or at least order from them as they do delivery too!

The channa masala in varying levels of heat(I recommend level 3 out of 6) is yummy and is a good accompaniment to Naan or rice.

Loved this. 3 spice level is very hot and I like fresh jalapenos on my Mexican food. I would get a 2 next time. The food was delicious and the price was right. I highly recommend it!

I first started going to Gurkhas on the Hill when it opened a few blocks from my house. The food was incredible, I was practically addicted. My roommate and I ordered from there weekly, it was sort of sickening (not the food! Rather it was the sheer gluttony. We ate and we ate and we ate). The only thing that was hard was coughing up the cash. In retrospect, ordering that much Indian food that many times a week might have been where the real financial burden lurked. Everything was wonderful until one day when I ordered after I'd moved a few miles away. The food was over an hour late and there was no rice. I called the restaurant to tell them about this and they didn't offer to bring rice or offer me a discount. It was only after a couple minutes that the girl told me that all she could offer me was a chai next time I ordered. Now I guess when I order again I'll get a free chai, but I'd rather just have had the rice. I needed the rice
