So, this has to be one of the best locations in Boulder. It's right on the creek and in the center of town. Thy have awesome bloody Mary's and margaritas and the food was pretty good too. In addition, the presentation of food was very cool On their unique white plates. Overall it is a fun food experience that is worth stopping in for. The manager/bartender Tim is epitomizes the food service industry. He works his tail off, genuinely cares about if people are enjoying their time and makes a point to ensure that your service was up To par. All in all the restaurant owner is lucky to have him. You guys are off to a great start and I will 100% be back again and recommend you to Friends! Small suggestion: more staff! A designated hostess would make your lives so much easier.

After hearing a bunch of negative reviews from coworkers and friends, I decided To throw caution to the wind and try it out with my honey anyway. How could a place with patio seating overlooking the creek be that bad? How wrong I was. There were maybe five other groups when we got there that were sitting on the patio and maybe four different members of the waitstaff. I waited a good ten minutes before anybody even acknowledged. There was absolutely no reason for this. From there we decided to just get drinks and leave rather than subjecting ourselves to whatever let down the food was sure to be. Before leaving I stepped away to use the restroom and I swear there was only one staff member sitting at the bar in this expansive restaurant. Not one customer. That alone should tell you the conclusion I came to-- the only reason to go there is just to sit be the creek, luckily you can sit in the park across the way and pack your own picnic. At least you know you'll get served, and not given watered down sickly sweet drinks.

Great location, awesome patio and good vibe. However, the service and food was disappointing. I was in a group of four for brunch and the restaurant was only about half full. We waited far too long to receive a menu after being seated. After placing our order, it took over an hour to receive our food. Once it arrived, nothing was hot and the food itself was lack-luster. The server never came back to check on us or ask us if we wanted another round of mimosas. We ended up cashing out at the bar because the server was so inattentive. I normally give restaurants second chances incase they are just having a bad day, however I will not be returning to this establishment especially since Boulder has so many other amazing restaurants.

This restaurant was a huge disappointment after being highly recommended. We arrived for brunch and it was about half full. It took over 20 minutes for the server to even bring us a menu. We ordered a drink and our meal right away took over an hour to get our meal... Keep in mind the restaurant was about half full. By the time the food came it was cold. We wanted more drinks and the server never came back we had to cash out at the bar. As far as the food it was tasty besides being cold and was presented nicely. I wouldn't go back again when Boulder has so many other great restaurants.

My friend and I were passing through boulder this week and decided to stop here. The service is great and the food is even better! Amazing quiche and the eggs benedict I had was to die for. The atmosphere is awesome with the patio next to the creek. It makes for a relaxed brunch and experience.

Don't waste your time or money. The location was beautiful but the food left a lot to be desired. The lobster roll was bland, tiny (i had to double check to make sure there was lobster in it) and it came with an even more microscopic serving of meh greek salad. No thank you!

Stopped in for lunch and was impressed by the service, location and oh my, the food! Benedict of the day was delicious. Looking forward to a return trip, soon.

Stopped by before an event in the afternoon. While the patio looked beautiful we felt it was too hot to sit outside so we went in. The inside looks shabby, with dirty tables. The service was slow, and couldn't answer questions about the menu. Two of us ordered hamburgers and I decided to be a bit more adventurous and ordered the South African sausage. After a lengthy wait I had to track down our server (though I give her credit as she was running in and out. While two other servers sat around the computer). She hunted down one burger and the sausage. The other burger was to follow shortly. The burger was pretty good but the sausage was was dry and grainy. And the "bread" it was served on was rock hard. The side dish to the burger was some inedible slaw/pasta salad. The second burger finally came as we finished. We might stop by again for drinks on the patio someday. But we will never make the mistake of ordering food there again.

Food was good but service was slow, slow, slow. Also the maitre'd was unwelcoming even though we had a reservation. The location is fantastic but we won't be going back -- lots of other tasty, friendlier, efficient options in Boulder.

ARTISTS: DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS VENUE, THEY WILL SCREW YOU. They booked a wedding over my regularly scheduled comedy show without telling me, so drove an hour and a half to be shut down by some random old catering waitress. Their service is also terrible. Prices are too high on drinks, and they don't care if your order is wrong. Eat it anyway, they will tell you.

While attending the Boulder Creek Festival I decided to give this place a try. The location is amazing with an expansive tiered patio overlooking the creek. Unfortunately that's were the praise ends. Even though the place was nearly empty it took forever to flag a server. Happy hour sangrias were $7 and served in a champagne flute with lots of ice so we left less than happy. Service was slow again settling up and the credit card slip was returned to me without a pen. Most interestingly our bill was rounded UP! While it lacks the creek views we were much happier with sangrias served in pint glasses at The Med for $5 and with less ice.

Food was amazing but the service was terrible. Very slow, wouldn't split checks and mischarged food to name three.

For the cost of the food, I'd expect better. The location of this place is great as is the food, and the drinks, but the staff is lacking. We couldn't understand why at about 4pm, when only 3 other couples were there, and 2 of them had already eaten, the food would take almost 30 min to prepare. It was just a salad and a burger. At home that meal would have only taken about 10 mins to prepare but for some reason in a restaurant were there was an employee for every patron it took 3x as long. Our waitress was flirting with the bar tender the whole time. I find this incredibly inappropriate as we were waiting on service. Maybe I'd go back again, but only if I had a lot of time to spare and didn't care about having poor service.

I use to frequent Food at the Riverside when it first opened its doors and it was phenomenal! The food was to die for; the eggs benedict options, the polenta, and their house pickled ochra were all so amazing! The staff and chef were spectacular and the service was spot on! It was by far the best breakfast spot in Boulder. I have to sadly say, though, that this restaurant is no longer any good. My last experience completely turned me off from the place and I will never be back. I never wanted to be one of those people who wrote a bad review describing their experience but I feel I must: When my boyfriend and I first walked onto the patio we were told to sit anywhere so we located ourselves in a cozy spot by the river. We waited for about 5 minutes while we watched the waitstaff hustle around all frantic (there were only a couple other tables outside). I then overheard two of the servers debate over who was going to take our table and when a server finally arrived, she quickly noticed that we didn't have any water. So without a greeting or asking if there was anything she could get for us right way, she immediately left to go get water and then arrived noticing that we didn't have menus so she left yet again with out talking to us to grab menus. At this point my boyfriend really wanted coffee so he asked for two coffees while she ran to get menus. She heard us and told us she would be right back with menus and coffee. Once the server arrived with the menus, we noticed that the restaurant is now called "The Riverside Cafe" and there was really nothing on it; a couple of omelets and "sweetbreads" (wtf, sweetbreads is a pancreas/organ meat). The server takes our order and tells us that they had to brew some more coffee so it will be a few more minutes until we get coffee. Ok -- fast forward -- at this point we had been sitting at our table for over 30 minutes, about 20 of those minutes had passed by since we first ordered our coffee. During our time waiting we were acknowledged by another server who asked if anyone had stopped by our table yet (she obviously noticed that we had been sitting for a while with out anything at our table). We told her that we were being helped, but then went unnoticed by our actual server; she continually just stood by the computer system and was talking with other staff (maybe she was training?) Finally (after almost 40 minutes) my boyfriend and I realized our coffee (and our food) were never going to come and we needed caffeine and carbs bad! As we left the restaurant I told our server that we had decided to go somewhere else. She just looked up from her cell phone and said in the most apathetic tone, "oh I am so sorry, have a good one." We ended up walking across the street and got a great a-la-carte breakfast and coffee at Alfalfas.

My husband and I were visiting from Atlanta and were looking for a nice brunch in Boulder. Riverside had the best reviews on Google so we took a chance...and I'm so glad we did! I'm a huge foodie and this is one of the best brunches I have had in my life. The pulled pork scramble was delicious, hash browns were crispy and not overdone, the bourbon pepper bacon was like none other. The scenic river and super friendly bartender/server Tim rounded out an overall perfect brunch experience. Tim was knowledgeable, friendly, sat at our table and even let us try some local wine on the house. If you're in the area, you should definitely try the food...you won't regret it. (I've already decided to try the South African pies next time I'm ever in Denver!)

Let me start of by stating that this review has nothing to do with the actual "food" at the riverside, as this establishment is so shockingly disorganized and lacking in basic common sense and customer service skills that even with a reservation in the middle of Boulder's restaurant week, we were refused a table upon our arrival and asked to wait at the bar and have a cocktail because "no food would be ready for about an hour". I will unfortunately never be back. I had been wanting to support the new restaurant and figured First Bite would be a great time to try the new spot out and strike a killer deal on a three course meal. We wanted a reservation or 7pm on Wed but the man on the phone, Seth couldn't guarantee us a table until 8 so we agreed and made the res. Upon our arrival, the unnamed man at the front counter proceeded to tell us that he would "seat us at the bar for a cocktail and would be happy to seat us in about an hour for dinner" we said excuse me but we have reservation for now why can you not seat/serve us??? The man had absolutely NO explanation or any ounce of sympathy in his tone. I asked why on earth I was not called to inform us that they could no longer honor our reservation and the man said "if I had a minute I would have" and that if "he had a better explanation he would have given one". Basically the man was rude, refused us a table and the worst part, refused us an explanation or any compensation for our trouble. I was so shocked I had very little to say and we proceeded to leave. I myself am the head pastry chef of a very established restaurant on pearl and I can not on earth understand why their kitchen could not prepare us a meal when their were numerous chefs in the kitchen and they were advertising a three course meal as part of First Bite. Shame on them! No excuses. Even so, had the man offered some sympathy and explanation we would have been happy to return some other time. However, since he did not I will not be giving this place another shot.

I had a great experience at the Riverside Cafe, I visited this Patio for brunch and cocktails and the experience was amazing. I was greeted by a friendly young man and was seated at a table overlooking the creek. The first menu item I ordered was a Riverita, a Margarita made with fresh lime juice on the rocks with a splash of grapefruit. I found this drink to be unique and very refreshing and tasty. Then the Mezze plate arrived, this was a unique presentation which included warm pita tips along with humus and green olive tapenade. This was a delicious treat to share with the table. My entree arrived shortly after, I had a spinach and feta South African pie, they are outrageous. My server was very attentive and everything came to the table quickly. The food and service were incredible! Nomaste!

Eek! Total ripoff. Food portions are good for Barbie Dolls only. Location is great, but that's about it. Plus, location has to do with nature! We went with some business colleagues who were here from Europe. The food took 35 - 40 minutes to arrive at the table and we were starving waiting for the order! When the food arrived, some of us were shocked at how embarrassingly tiny the portions were. We had some of their breakfast items they serve also at lunch. All of us in that group are healthy and fit, and don't believe in massive sized american meals, but these were just ridiculously tiny. We were hungry again at 4pm. Unfortunately, not going back unless we really only wanted a snack.

I would give zero stars, but the food was actually good. The service was so terrible that we thought we must be on candid camera. The server got almost everything wrong on the order... One person in the party didn't get his meal until the rest of us were finished. Everyone got the wrong sides. Who wants toast 10 minutes after the eggs are served?? He had to come back several times to be reminded of our drink orders. (He didn't write anything down!?!). The food was good, but the mimosa was tiny and the Bloody Mary's were just okay. We complained to the "boss" who was apologetic and felt bad, but shrugged it off like he didn't know what to do about it. Horrible experience in a beautiful setting.

Beautiful location and the food is excellent. Had brunch with eggs Benedict, quiche, waffles and traditional breakfast items. All extremely good! We will be back over and over again. Warm weather patio is incredible!

Wow. The only good thing about this restaurant is the outdoor patio that sits right on the creek. Everything else is a joke. First off, I went to this place for my birthday with some coworkers for lunch. I ordered the lobster roll and the Greek "salad" on the side. The lobster roll, while beautiful, was the size of a taco. It was on french bread, with, alleged, lobster, chopped up tomatoes, and some kind of aoli. It was served on a large dinner plate, which made it look even smaller. The taste was bland, the cook there apparently didn't get the memo about salt and seasoning, I did not taste ANY lobster. All that it tasted like was a tomato and mayonnaise sandwich for $11. Next, the greek "salad" , while tasty was NOT a SALAD. It was in a tiny little boat, about 1/4 cup consisting of cucumbers, kalamata olives, and feta, and NO lettuce. Okay, yes some salads don't have lettuce, but a greek salad is well known term for a salad with some greens. If you're not going to serve a salad with lettuce, call it a medley or a mix, or something else. I only ate it all because I was starving. One of my coworkers gave me half of her BLT. The bacon was under-cooked, which, come ON! How do you mess up bacon? Another coworker got the burger, which she said was good, but the potato salad was under seasoned and the "macaroni salad" was more like a pasta salad. The only person who was happy with their meal ordered the lobster bisque and the beet salad. Shortly after we were done eating, the "manager" came over to us and asked us how everything was. We told him exactly what I just wrote and rather than at least comping my meal, he invited me back for a free meal. However he didn't give me a business card, a gift certificate or any other way to redeem said meal. And further, WHY would I ever go back there. Stay away, unless you just want a cocktail and to sit by the creek, but I'm sure you can do that anywhere.

Great food and ambiance. I have had their omelets and their baked chicken. The omelet was awesome. The sauce was supper good and the garlic potatoes rock. The chicken was very tasty and healthy. We ate outside next to the creek. The only restaurant on Boulder Creek that I know of.

Traveled to boulder this last weekend to join some friends at this place for brunch. Let me start by saying that this. is. hands down. the best location that I could even imagine eating brunch at. Their patio is literally ON the river and the sound of the water along with the aroma of nature is absolutely perfect to start your day! I ordered the green chili omelet with potatoes. My girlfriend ordered the lobster benedict. Our friends, each ordered the quiche with a side waffle. Between the table, we ordered the house wine that is ON TAP (how cool is that?!), bloody marys (delicious taste topped with pickled okra that is great as well!), and beer. I would agree that the portion sizes aren't as large as what we are used to at a "Le Peep" or "Ihop", but here are a couple of brutally honest points. 1. The Food At The Riverside's pricing is less than those places. My omelet was $9! The pricing is very reasonable and I was full when I was done. Stop thinking so fat! No offense meant. 2. If you truly appreciate food, service, and ambiance, you can't overlook this place. Don't come here expecting to get portions as big as your head when this place IS NOT a chain and they are UPSCALE! When dining at a more upscale place, everything is traditionally A La Carte AND you enjoy "smaller than normal portions". Now that my partial rant is over, the ingredients are from local farmers as they believe in sourcing locally when possible. This makes their food taste better. The lettuce is green and crisp, the eggs are filling and fresh, and the green chili is perfect! We could always ask for our drinks or food faster. That being said, this staff was not snail-like in any way. They were busy and attentive. This isn't applebees. They don't have everything pre-made in the back on hot plates staying warm. They get your order THEN they make your food. Now that your expectations are properly prepared. Take some time, pick someone important to you, and then enjoy one of the best brunches you will experience in Boulder! You, my friend, are welcome!

I've eaten here 3 times and every meal has exceeded my expectations. They're still working out the kinks with service, but they're better every time I go. I recommend the polenta and the veggie sandwich. Also the eggs Benedict is delicious.

Came in and the atmosphere was great. They had a fun band playing with a mandolin. However, it was like purgatory. Although the whole ambiance was nice, my boyfriend and I waited a full HOUR for our food. It was ridiculous because the restaurant was less than halfway full. There was another couple sitting near us that actually left because they were waiting so long for their meals. I give it one star not only for the full hour wait for our food. My omelette was overly salty/ greasy and the breakfast potatoes were greasy as well. My boyfriend also had a pool of grease left on his plate from his eggs benedict. Good luck staying open guys!

I love this place for lunch. I hate hearing the bad reviews, since one of the best places in town for atmosphere. In nice weather, I like to sit out by the creek and work while I eat. The paninis are great, and the kimchi coleslaw is divine.

I must preface this review by stating that I was there for a special event and became enamored with both the venue and the....um...scenery....involved with the evening. The Riverside is playing host to a Burlesque review from Denver from time to time. This does not hurt my feelings. I love the counterculture elements of today's burlesque scene and old school jazz is honestly a lot punk rock in comparison to the garbage piped through most public places. And I am a male who is not offended by naturally beautiful women and charcuterie plates. I had both at the same time at the Riverside last night. The cabaret was well staffed and very self aware. Funny, sexy and impressive without sacrificing a shred of class. An awesome and very well put together show from start to finish. The MC covered an old Etta James standard with 100% devotion to craft and NAILED it. Big round of applause for the service staff. They pulled double duty as stagehands and servers and didn't miss a step. The tornadoes of beef were delicious and perfectly cooked. Roasted Brussels sprouts teamed up with a subtle yet earthy sauce. Nice work. The salami and chorizo were the stars of the charcuterie show. My only complaint was that the intense Bleu kind of beat up the flavor of the meats, but it was such a damn good cheese that it stood perfectly on its own. The ladies involved in the dancing were perfect. Very funny and still completely engrossing. Sexy but terrifically classy; a great show for MEN AND WOMEN ALIKE. It was my first Burlesque show. Count me in for another. Nice job Riverside and Jose the Sailor/Server.

Had a wonderful time for happy hour last Thursday here. It was around 5:30pm and my friend and I sat outside on the patio. It was surprisingly not busy for how pretty it was. For Tapas style happy hour, the portions were spot on and worth the price because you could tell it was prepared well. We each had a colorado beer, and shared the mushrooms and gnocchi Tapas plate. They were great for quality "snacking". The gnocchi was soft and very creamy. The mushrooms were a variety, also creamy in texture and marinated well. Very great and I recommend it for Tapas. We saw a large PR party going on - so I recommend it for alumni gatherings or after work happy hour socials (lots of space and good for walking around and mingling without being overcrowded in a bar area). I might come for brunch sometime! (Sorry, I ate it all before taking photos!)

Had lunch with coworkers and then came again for happy hour. Patio is beautiful, servers were friendly, and came to check on us regularly. I attended a private birthday party there and had a wonderful time, i think it would be a great venue for a wedding reception or party. I would definitely suggest this restaurant to my friends and family.

Food At the Riverside has folded. There's now a new restaurant called "Riverside Cafe" with counter service, that I could not bring myself to try (and which is not covered by this review). Apparently, Corey Buck bailed out of Food some time ago. I wish he'd re-open John's Restaurant... we could use more fine dining in Boulder and less avant garde experimental stuff.

Awful!!!! Have no clue why it was rated best patio in Boulder. We went and ordered drinks and waited about 20 mins later for our flakey or maybe just high waitress to tell us they were out of mint. Then I ordered a hamburger plain - no cheese or sauce. The hamburger came back loaded with everything. Sent it back with manager...came back about 10 mins later- took bun off and there was cheese still on it that the chef had scraped off. This could be deadly if I had a food allergy that they did not seriously. Shame on them. I confronted manager and he blamed it on chef and not another word. They did take it off my bill but seriously they are very lucky I did not have a food allergy to cheese! I ordered a side of fruit and it came in a Barbie size dish-unreal. Will not be going back- to many wonderful restaurants in Boulder to waste time on this. Service really needs help!!!! Not to mention it was not crowded mid afternoon.

Pros: atmosphere, service, location Cons: food Let me explain- the food was ok. I had the burger, which was tasty and got a side of Mac Salad which was dry and not so good. I only are it because I was so hungry. The portions sizes were literally laughable. The chicken pita ordered by a friend was 1/2 of a pita with the cutest, Barbie sized cup of fruit. This was a case of expectations not being met. For the price, I can get better (and more) food within a few blocks. Most of our group was stopping to get food to bring back to work because they were left wanting. If go back for a drink and small bite, but not for a meal...unless I just count that as my small bite.

This is the best restaurant location in Boulder. The outside patio has tables all along the Boulder Creek. It is stunning. And the food is not only delicious and creative, but it is very reasonable. I have already tried their breakfast and happy hour and can't wait to go back for lunch. (the inside is beautiful too, and they have a lot of fun events like Jazz on Thursday and Salsa on some fridays)

If you want to pay a lot for dinner and still be hungry when you leave, this place is for you. Yuppies will find the small portions and high prices charming. Our waitress warned us that the plates were "tapas" and not to be fooled by the full-meal prices. If you are hungry, it's highly advised that you get pre-approval from their loan officer before ordering. I inquired about the "Diver Scallop" for $15. "Is it just one scallop?" I asked. Our waitress confirmed that it was. I also decided against the shrimp, since "shrimp" could be plural or singular -- probably singular in this case. I got the buffalo carpaccio, which I think was good. I can't say for sure that I tasted it, as it consisted of four postage stamp sized pieces that were cut so thin they were transparent. If you breathe too hard, they evaporate before they touch your tongue. The olive that came with my martini was more substantial than any of the tapas we had. Between the two of us, our bill was north of $80, which is quite a bit considering that none of the dishes was memorable, at least not in a positive way. Afterward, we went out for dinner.

We went to food at the Riverside during happy hour on the patio, which is a great location. We had been to breakfast and it was terrific. I had been looking forward to experiencing the patio for a while. The portions were SMALL and two out of four menu items good, the others where just Meh. The service from our waitress wasn't what one expects in Boulder, it was untrained ,inattentive and lackadaisical . A fellow waiter was great!? Mind you, there were only two other table in the whole place. The stations near the bar were sloppy . We left hungry after spending quite a lot of money. This place has to get its act together .

I have only been here once, but I still crave it all the time. I had the lobster benedict and it was the bomb. The patio is awesome and the drinks are delicious. I only gave them 4/5 though because I wish the portions were a little bigger but I guess thats what keeps the price down.
