We came here at night. Roads are a bit scary with no lights and it was icy. But we made it to out inn. It has a key pad and a ringer to buzz the girl. She let us in. The inside is very cute. Free tea, fresh bake cookies and hot chocolate. Along with a piano and fire. It's a older place with modern technology added. Our room is cute with a patio with a wooden bench over looking the road with mountains behind. Our room had a hot tub, overhead speakers, and a tv. We also got our Godiva chocolates as well. So far so good. Janine The owner was awesome! Very helpful and funny!

This place has some serious charm and character. It's perfect for an adventure off the beaten path and has the potential to be a real gem. But, so as to promote accurate expectations, it's important to note that there's some deferred maintenance, and it seems like the hotel might be a bit understaffed. For example, the linens and drapery was all clean, but it was clear that the cleaning staff had forgotten to clean our shower before we came -- there were empty shampoo bottles and someone else's hair in the drain. But I think that may have just been an oversight. Otherwise, the staff was very nice and accommodating. The bottom line is that this place has a lot going for it, but it needs a little TLC. Based on the for sale sign out front, I'm hoping that the right someone will come along to perk the place up. In that case, we'll definitely be back!

So my boyfriend and I are currently shacked up in this facility and I can't say this is anywhere close to our expectations for the price and needs of what we thought a bed and breakfast should be. No hospitality at all, welcoming feelings, and the room has issues. Our back door is broken so we cannot just open and sit on the patio, their onsite hot tub is currently out of order, our room does not have a mini fridge so the beer we bought gets to stay warm, there was trash from the previous renters scattered all around the in-room tub (gross), the whole place looks like a partial trashy renovation project. All in all we were trying to find a romantic getaway and this place is not really it. And talk about expensive!!! Seriously. For the price we paid there should be a full size kitchen in the room...with a patio door that opens.

The staff was very friendly, the location was just right, and the bed was extremely comfortable.

Wow Wow Wow...Me and my boyfriend booked a room at this lovely place for our anniversary. Wonderful staff and cookies on the counter, a sure way to win me over! The room was clean, smelled wonderful and had plenty of space. The tub was huge the bubbles seemed to find their way out (oops, I squeezed too much bubble bath out and spent close to an hour scooping them out with the trash can into the shower). Had an amazing time. Sent my mom here for mother's day as well she enjoyed the quiet time and wonderfully relaxing patio.

One review here says disgusting - not really so. I'd highly encourage you to give this place a try - something a bit outside of Boulder, in more of the "outdoors", rather than pavement land. Romantic, cozy, friendly place with good building character. We visited in December (i.e. winter) and business was really slow. Nevertheless, the staff was around to answer questions, serve us breakfast, offer to start the fireplaces, etc. Based on what we saw, we can only hope that it has a nice _busy_ country inn feel during the peak season. Must be really nice to have people milling around playing games, reading, eating around the huge fireplaces and various lounge areas and patio in the inn. Food was excellent, you can tell that they put effort into offering things which have a more home cooked quality to them, yet don't overload the staff. After all, they were serving just us and maybe another couple or two during the winter season, but still did a good job! I did see hike/bike trails along the highway, but you'll probably want to drive on your trips to/from Boulder. Be careful at night, it take practice to anticipate and see the driveway(s) to the Inn while driving the fairly fast road. They could really use some high tech - "Look for the reflective gnome 500ft before our driveway" technology. We didn't light the Duraflame log in our room, as tempting as it was. But as another reviewer mentioned, it looked a little questionable lighting an artificial log in our room. Wish the inn would find a better solution - doubtless they are proficient at starting fires, considering the large fireplaces they have elsewhere. Perhaps set up some nice kindling in the rooms - a lot of work I know, but would be a great touch! I will admit that that the could use a little more maintenance in their rooms if they want to maintain a high quality image. There was construction junk outside our back door, there was a bit of wear and tear in the rooms (I noticed in the bathroom while delayed doing my business in there). _Not_ disgusting, just imperfect. I found myself wondering if I'd update this and that if this was my house - probably, but not at top-priority. Overall, seems like an excellent place to stay in the area, especially if you're looking to get away for a bit or on a romantic getaway.

My husband & I stay here every year. We love the people, the hospitality, the quiet rooms, the views. It's all wonderful. Especially the huge tub! The room we get is awesome, but my only complaint is the tub is broken every year. They never fix the Jacuzzi jets. It's still fine, would be nice to have them but we always leave feeling like we left the spa!

Great get away! Beautiful views and the rooms are nice. It feels "homey" with the snacks at night and wonderful breakfast in the morning. Right down the road from The Red Lion Inn is literally a 2 minute (if that) drive away. It's a great romantic place with the jetted tubs, yes, I agree, the bubbles can be overwhelming, use a little bit, you can always add more. It can be a bit pricey but, well worth it if you are going to indulge.

Really nice romantic place to stay with log fires and a great breakfast with huge fluffy scones. Be careful lighting the fire in your room as the 'duraflame' can become quite stinky. L'Occitane toiletries are divine but the jetted tub becomes a bubble machine so go easy.

Booked for my upcoming 1 yr wedding anniversary, was really looking forward to staying here but got called to fly out for business the next morning. Per my reservation email I understood there was a $25 fee if the reservation was cancelled. When I called to cxl 3 weeks in advance of my stay due to my unexpected business flight, I was told that since I booked directly with them instead of over the Internet, that they were going to waive the cxl fee for me. I was very grateful that they would do that. However, I noticed that the $25 fee was still charged to my acct. I called to advise of the mistake, and spoke to the SAME person who cancelled my reservation who said bluntly that I was mistaken and that she shouldn't have to eat the financing fee. I explained that I would never be booking with them in the future and she didn't care. I guess customers and potential referrals are worth losing over $25.

The reviews for Alps Canyon Inn must be bogus !!! My husband and I booked 3 nights (July 19-21, 2013) at The Alps Boulder Canyon Inn and checked out after staying only one night and that was a long night !! We got a really hard time from Maggie when we were checking out. She said they were not able to reimburse us for the other 2 nights because it was their busy season. We said the room was not suitable for us and we do not want to argue. She said she would take care of the refund later because she was working the kitchen (making their so called delicious breakfast) and the front desk, she did not have time to do the refund at this time. I told her we could wait because we were not leaving until the refund was on our credit card. After being duped with their bragging comments about their Inn on their website, I did not trust Maggie to honor her words about putting the refund on our credit card. The refund was put on our credit card, after some arguing. Comments about this illusory"award winning" Inn: Customer service was poor. The City of Boulder had a problem with their water, which affected the Alps Inn (cold water was very brown). I called down to the front desk and talked to John about the problem. He said he would call the city and call me back. He said the problem should be fixed in an hour. I asked if there was any drinking water available and said I am not sure if there is bottled water. He sent Maggie up to our room with "one" bottle of drinking water. The water was still brown in the morning, and there was a tiny piece of paper taped to all the doors, claiming the water was still drinkable and able to shower/bath ! They did not offer anyone bottled water, poor customer service on their part. I wonder how many guests were drinking the brown water? The bed was very uncomfortable with scratchy, itchy bedding. The 600 count Egyptian sheets they bragged about on their website were not on our bed. The Godiva chocolates mentioned on the website did not show up in our room. The owners of this place play it up on their website how wonderful and luxurious their B&B, and truth be told it is not better than a Motel 6. The furniture is run down, the cleaning was intolerable, junk all over the place and many repairs are needed. This B & B is not even close to a luxury B & B and the money they charge is outrageous !! We stayed in the Magnolia room (advertise as $235 and they charged us $188 because the jets in the tub were broken). This room was not even worth $80 a night. It was not cleaned properly, a curtain rod was drooping, part of a towel rack needed repaired, the shower was dirty, the bed was very itchy and uncomfortable, the carpet had spots on it, the air conditioner was loud, the furniture on the small balcony was a log bench, lots of noise coming from the road. I really could go on and on about this place. You will not see us going back !! As far as we are concerned the owners lack integrity for portraying their Inn to be something it is not and to charging outrageous rates !!!!

This is the quintessential b&b for the Boulder area. I live in Northern California where B&B's are practically in strip malls. This place is lovely, rustic, the ambiance is extraordinary, sumptuous beds, and linens, and L'occitane bath accessories. Spa tubs, cool Rocky Mountain Nights, Breakfasts are delicious, and the innkeepers and staff are so cordial and accommodating. So close to Boulder, there's tons to do in the day. Climbing, site seeing, hikes, and and amazing list of stuff to do and see in Boulder. I have family in Colorado, however, I stay HERE WHEN I can.

5 stars - Beautiful old building with tons of character. 4 stars - Cool to feel out in the country, but be 5 minutes from restaurants in downtown. Nice change from a traditional B&B because it was cozy and breakfast was great, but we weren't forced to mingle. Hanging out in somebody else's house and/or trying to make small talk with strangers at breakfast is just not that relaxing. 3 stars: Our room was nice and service was good. 2 stars: things were a bit worn around the edges - dirty carpet, paint, dripping, creeky hinges (try WD-40), outdoor hot tub not on or broken, landscaping projects unfinished - all things that seem like they could easily be fixed. If I pay $200+ for a room, everything should be perfect. There were french doors to a mountainside patio, but it was on a concrete terrace shared by five other rooms. 1 star - See through curtains on the French doors were creepy and the room is bright in the morning. I would stay here again because it was a great get-away. But, I would lower my expectations and either get a cheaper room or one with a private patio.

This hotel is incredibly special. My girlfriend and I stayed for a wedding weekend in August. It is slightly separated from downtown Boulder, in the mountains, but is only a 10 minute drive from everything downtown. It is run by a married couple who have poured their originality, charming taste, and personal attentiveness into it. The rooms are gorgeous and unique; there is wall-touch music, beautiful furniture, the most comfortable beds, huge bathrooms. The morning complimentary breakfast is delicious, with several home-cooked options that change every day. The woman who owns (we regretted not getting her name) spent 30 minutes explaining the restaurants and hiking trails to us before we set off on our adventures. There is no cell reception (which adds to the beauty of it), but free local and long-distance calling. We would stay there again and again; it augmented the inherent loveliness, adventure, and tastiness of Boulder beyond its natural proportions: what a hotel / inn can be at its best!
