Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Best burger period. Double hookup = my choice for my last meal on the planet. Per usual, I stopped her on Friday to eat on my way to Taos and Monday on my way back. I thought I should mix it up a bit and asked Lu is there was something else on the menu that I should try outside my normal burger or cheese steak. She recommended the "Maria's Plate"? A chile relleno, a sirloin steak and a tostata. The chile relleno was excellent and the steak was juicy. *note, Lu renovated the place and it is like a new restaurant. Wood floors, ceiling and a nice new, huge bar. I did not take pictures of the new inside, someone needs to.

Pretty good stuff all around for lunch today. Attentive wait staff, food got out in a good amount of time, and tasted great!

The food here was not good! My French Dip had almost no flavor. ITs like they tried to make it bland. And the taco was terrible. You'd think some Mexican food in a diner in a small town who have some flava! No, these were pre-formed shells like you get at the grocery store, no flavor to he eat at all. WOW. As impel lunch took over an hour, including waiting 15 minutes to get our check when we anted to roll. I wanted to love Lu's. I don't.

We were trying to avoid overpriced tourist food near the Great Sand Dunes, and this seemed to be the absolute nearest restaurant on our route that wasn't right outside of the gates. I read the reviews and had reasonable but still pretty high hopes. We were definitely not impressed. I'm giving this place 2 stars for our friendly and efficient server, but unfortunately that's all I can do. We ordered chips and salsa, I had chicken tacos, and my husband had beef fajitas. The chips were the best part of the meal. The salsa was bland but I'd prefer that over spicy. Things got worse from there. The beef was the worst my husband had ever had, and with all the traveling we do that is something. My chicken was shredded (from a can perhaps?) with dark meat and fatty pieces. I couldn't eat much of it. The taco shells were straight from a grocery store package and so were the tortilla shells and literally everything else we were served. I wanted to like this place, but found no authentic home prepared recipes here, and I just can't recommend cheap pre-packaged items with a $34 price tag. :(

Yummy meatloaf with green and red chiles, beef barley soup and corn with peppers and onions. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy could have been better. Decent prices and friendly waitress.

My wife and I stopped here on our vacation from Kansas City. Let me tell you... that it was some awesome food!!! Small, older building, nice staff and prices comparable to any other establishments. I had the Tamales, they were stuffed with shredded pork, rice and beans on side and those were yummy as well. Wife had the Chile Rellenos and the verde sauce was great. Had just the right amount of melted cheese on top, served with beans and rice. The owner is nice, she owns another place as well and is having a great summer. If you are driving through, give her a try.
