Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Way better than I expected. The woman who greeted and served me was great. And the salsa bar was a great touch. Small establishment but great business model and food! I had a Barbacoa torta and I was not disappointed.

Wound up here on a random recommendation from a stranger at a store across town. I was a little skeptical of this tiny place but I was in the mood i.e. starving so we took a chance. The chips and salsa were decadent - perfectly spiced salsa, I like it hot so this was perfect. The chips were freshly made. I thought I was in the mood for a traditional plate of Mexican food with rice and beans but we made the rookie mistake of sitting at a table instead of ordering at the counter. The menus they give you don't include the platillos that I was looking for. Since the place is called tacos and tortas we went with tacos. These are authentic Mexican street tacos, we tried the asada, carnitas, marinated beef, marinated pork and shrimp. All were fabulous. There's a salsa bar where you can fix up your tacos. Make sure you wash your hands before you get here. We weren't offered any utensils and the restroom is across the lot at a juice place. Don't sit around waiting for your check either, you're supposed to pay before you sit or pay at the counter after. The food is worth the awkward interior and the tacos are $1.49 each! We will definitely be back to try the platillos. They have great kids meals for $4, large portions of chicken nuggets & fries etc.

Great place for lunch. I've been coming here for almost a decade!,I must tell you why I enjoy this place; is simple and fresh, Complimentary chips, their Melon smothiees... My girlfriend and I have made this our real deal. She enjoy's their Sunday "Menudo"... and something we can both agree on is their "Smothered Steak Burrito" definitely a 5 star. Authentic Mexican Food.

I ride past El Chino every night on the bus going home from work and I've often thought about trying it. Last night I had to attend a meeting near there, so I went to El Chino for a torta first and I'm very glad I did. In both taste and value it was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The pleasant server knew a little English and I know a little Spanish, and the menu had some of both, so we worked our way through the ordering process just fine. The large, meaty torta was pressed flat and grilled, which was not what I was expecting, but it was great. I am sure to be going back often to explore the rest of their menu.

Tacos are pretty good, tortas ahogadas are unstoppable. Really enjoyed this tiny spot.

I am a fan of tacos El Chino. I have been coming here for a year now as a regular almost every Friday to get my taco craving under control. I love the fact that I live 5 minutes away. GET THE TACOS AL PASTOR. Well seasoned and perfectly prepared tender marinated pork and pineapple on double corn tortillas. I get about 7 with all the fresh salsas and lime I can handle. Call in for takeout and 10 minutes later you are in taco heaven. They run a close second to tacos y salsa which has a good Carne asada taco, but El chino has my vote!
(3)Kim G.
The street tacos are fantastic! You need to grab about 4 of them! And lots of napkins!
(5)Andy B.
Good tacos, friendly girl running the front and cheap. Tacos were juicy and not over cooked. Can't go Wrong with pastor. Thanks for the good tacos, they hit the spot!!!

Small place.. Probably seats about 20 people... Straight up hole in the wall. But fantastic food, FREASH juices, and great salsa bar. Had the torta.. Well worth the stop

Friday January 3rd 2014. Early Dinner. Time was about 18:48hrs. Yes, this a tiny hole in a wall establishment. Yes, you can seat down and wait for the staff to give you the menu and take your order, OR you can order at the counter, then seat yourself. The Dining area can seat and fit like about 12 to 15 people, the Max at one go, though I cannot deny it would be a tight squeeze. Hubs and I like the complimentary Chips and Salsas. The Salsa that they provide was indeed mildly spicy with chunks of tomatoes or peppers to our liking. You can also get your own concoction of Salsa from the Salsa Bar though I cannot deny, the "orange" one seems like Chipotle or Roasted Tomatilo are more spicier to my taste bud. We ordered the following items : * 1 Lengua Taco ($1.49) * 1 Barbacoa Taco ($1.49) * 5 Beef Asada Taco @ $1.49 each - ($7.45) * 1 Smothered Beef Asada Burrito ($4.25) + ($1.49) * 1 Mexican Bottle Cola ($2.25) The total cost for our Dinner with tax was $19.73. We waited for abit, since before us, there is a patron who opt to have her order to go. While we were there, there are like about 5 to 6 other patrons, 3 of which opt to dine in, and the rest opt to have their orders to go. The Tacos comes with Diced Raw Onions and Chopped Cilantro. My order of Barbacoa and Lengua Tacos were just A-Okay. The Barbacoa is over-cooked that I don't think I can taste any "meat" in it. The Lengua Taco was a little bland, no flavor at all, though I cannot deny the Lengua was cut into edible chunks. How I wish they could at least "fry" the Lengua a little longer, to make it more crunchy for my taste bud. I like the Beef Asada Tacos the best from this establishment since I get the chance to have 2 of those. Hubs said the 3 Beef Asada Tacos and his Smothered Burrito was just A-Okay too. 3 stars at best. May return when needed. From the conversations we had with the staff at this establishment, she also runs the Juice Land which was like 2 doors away behind this establishment. May visit that establishment when in need of Mexican Fresh Juices galore! Tortas Y Tacos El Chino 796 Peoria St, Aurora, CO 80011 Tel : (303)-360-8765 @4/2014

The tortilla chips must be on the radar of the DEA as they are Extremely Addicting and cause one to crave them uncontrollably when they are not around. You will find yourself thinking of them... but wait, there is more on the menu than chips and fresh made salsa! Tacos, Tortas, mulitas, burritos! Flautas! tamales! all so good and the tacos are $1.49. how can you go wrong? And if you are like me, you will over order and have one of everything. Don't worry the people with their families at the only other 5 tables will understand when you go crazy and eat the menu. The menu and the staff are mostly in Spanish but I can point so it all works out great. Don't forget to try a fresh made smoothie that is large enough to drown in. Overall a must visit regularly!
(5)Doug Y.
I thought I over ordered because I got the two tamales smothered, an al pastor taco and an al abanil taco which is about two times what I would normally get. They got hit with a big to go order which clogged up the kitchen but the small bowl of fried corn tortillas at the table and a friend to talk to made the time go by. When the food arrived I liked the appearance more than the taste and the portions were small enough that I didn't have the leftovers that I thought I might. So overall for this trip it wasn't bad just not great. I'll have to try them again and see if my opinion changes.
(3)Stacie G.
I completely agree with Tiara Q's review! This little gem is absolutely perfect. If I lived in Aurora I'd be hanging out here at least weekly. The service was amazing, the food was authentic, full of flavor and prices were very reasonable. I ordered the menudo soup and hands-down I would place it among my top three menudo experiences! So so soooooo yummy! My dining partner had the carne asada and said it was really good - tender and the spices were spot-on. He actually ordered two entrees so there ya' go. That speaks volumes. You can get the full-tilt sugar version of Coca Cola here too! Please give this small business YOUR business. They definitely deserve it. I'll be back.
(5)Eric L.
This place has really good food and the staff is very friendly. The fruit shakes are delicious too.
(4)Erika M.
Cheap and YUMMY. Oh how I over order when I eat here. I tend to want one of everything. There isn't an item on the menu that disappoints. I love their tacos since they are street taco style and so flavorful. Their fresh salsa never disappoints, and the the chips are quite addicting. I always get an al pastor and a barbacoa style something. Those are my personal favorite meat preparations, oh and he carnitas. I want some right now as I write this, they are that good. Once you try them, I promise you that you that you will go back. If I had one complaint, it is that they are not open 24/7. I mean who hasn't wanted a late night taco? I think I might have to make a run over there when I am done writing this.

This place is so great- food is fantastic, you will never be disappointed. The salsa bar has lots of great choices with fresh onions, radishes, and limes. The service is wonderful, everyone from the people taking orders to the cook are super friendly and remember you! Support this local restaurant!
(5)Joshua S.
Great place. I was taken there while on vacation and was blown away. Great prices, all fresh cooked bursting w flavor. Truely authentic. Our group had smothered burritos, stk tacos, ck mole, ck tacos and all were great.
(5)Sean K.
Pretty decent little Mexican joint. Very different. It seems more like a takeout hole in the wall place. Their chips are pretty good and salsa is decent but DO NOT get their cheese dip unless you're still into that Tostitos cheese sauce or whatever the hell that nasty shit is. But their enchiladas are FANTASTIC. And their prices are super cheap so just order to go if you're smart lol.
(3)Joana H.
The menudo here is really good. I used to eat here all the time when I lived in hoffman heights. I picked up some tacos yesterday and they where delish! Downside is the small parking lot and the small eating area which is why I always pick up to go. If you have not tried this spot I recommend!

I had heard great things about this place from several friends. So i decided to go when I was in a craving for a torta. Upon arriving we were greeted right away, asked to sit and handed menus. Shortly after we ordered our drinks, horchata & agua de melon, which was really yummy. About five minutes later our friendly waitress took our order. The place had two other small families dinning in & several to go orders had gone in & out. I must say that they were very friendly to everyone but the wait for our food was a bit unexpected. For a torta, quesadilla, and gordita we waited about 30 minutes. The place was not busy by any means there were three people in the kitchen& 1 waitress who was keeping up fine with the tables as well as the to go customers. So I'm a bit disappointed when our food took so long. Once we finally were given our food. I found that the portion of the food was truly small & should not have taken as long as it did to prepare. I'm also disappointed in the flavor of the food, from the great things friends of mine have expressed to me, I didn't find anything great about the food. Meat lacked flavor & I could have eaten the same exact food but better in another restaurant. As I searched the restaurant In Yelp, I was shocked by the rave reviews that the establishment had. I don't know if I just went on a bad day or this establishment is being run by new owners now but they didn't live up to the reviews I read, during my visit here. Once finished eating, it took both the waitress & a cook about 10 minutes to enter what we ordered on their cash register so that we could pay. I had no issues with the cleanliness of the restaurant nor with the employees. They were great I would have liked to see more efficiency, as well as improvement on the food. I might try this place again but not my first pick for Mexican food.

I was lucky enough to be brought here by friend. I had a torta de milanesa and taco de birria smothered with their fresh salsas and washed it down with an orchata and I must say its very authentic and super tasty. The waitresses were very nice and hardworking as well. To top it off the prices are unbelievable cheap. A must go for cheap but super authentic mexican food.
(5)Harley F.
Stopped by for lunch when arriving in Denver. Started with superb chips and salsa. Had the smothered steak burrito which was excellent. Also ordered the limeade which came freshly squeezed in a very large glass - excellent. Small place with great mexican food and not expensive. Doesn't get much better.

I keep meaning to eat here more often, as I drive by it every day on my way to work. I've been here a couple of times but often wind up going to other places for Mexican food that are closer to campus. But today I decided "I gotta have some tacos", and the sign outside advertises four al pastor tacos, my favorite, for $4. Done and done. They were outstanding. The soft corn tortillas were great, and they held everything together very well, which is saying something because there was a lot more meat than you would expect for a dollar. The meat was nicely marinated and well cooked. The tacos came with onions, cilantro, and a bit of guacamole inside as well, which was unusual, but I enjoyed it. I got the pico de gallo from the salsa bar and a couple of lime wedges and I was good to go. I'd go three stars for the burritos here, which are ok but not great, and five stars for the tacos. I guess I should know to get the food that the place is named for, right? I will make it a point to come here more regularly and get my taco fix.
(4)Aznprelude P.
Fantastic food. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because they hire horrible servers. The smothered burritos are huge and cheap. Would recommend this place to anyone. Very "hole in the wall" ish. If you need to use the bathroom you have to go outside to use the door behind.

I was on the hunt for tortas on Peoria when I happened upon Tortas Y Tacos El Chino. Located at the northeast corner of Peoria and Del Mar Circle, you'll find this tiny, bright shop with plenty of parking. The menu is primarily in Spanish, but English is provided, which is fantastic because my Spanish is really, really rusty. I ordered a ham torta to go, which was severed up a few short minutes later. Yum-o! Jalapeños, onions, tomatoes, avacados, and lettuce spiced this torta up. Really quite delicious! And for less than $5? You can't go wrong! I know there are other tortas locales in the Del Mar circle area (which I need to try as well!), but I'm glad to know that happenstance brought me here because I will certainly be returning!

A huge fan. Just moved out from San Diego where we are gluttons for our Cali-Mexican food. So I wasn't expecting too much when I decided to try Mexican food here in Aurora. This place was a small, friendly establishment off of Peoria with limited parking. You are greeted with free tortilla chips and salsa (the salsa had a fresh kick) and a menu to order. My dad got the basic Bean and Cheese burrito and I had the Fish and Al Pastor tacos with a side serving of guacomole. Delicious. The tacos were flavorful and my dad's burrito was good as well, and it was a humane portion size rather than the humongo giant of a burrito we are use to back in SD. The prices were cheap, the food was fresh ( i saw a guy running back and forth to the kitchen from outside with fresh veggies), and the service was amiable. Coming back again very soon!

Fantastic food. The only reason it gets 4 stars and not 5 is because they hire horrible servers. The smothered burritos are huge and cheap. Would recommend this place to anyone. Very "hole in the wall" ish. If you need to use the bathroom you have to go outside to use the door behind.
