We enjoyed the courtesy staff and thought the food could use seasonings and more spices. After speaking to the owner she informed us that she plans in spicing up the menu. Can't wait to see.

This place was soo good back in the early 2000s and even earlier.. I'm not sure whatever happened to this place.. wait during dinner used to be long and place was always crowded... sadly this is all a distant memory.. want great mexican food, try blue bonnet, all the same food and recipes but they have kept quality up.. Quick tip the owners used to be married, divorced and now blue bonnet is the thriving mexican food business

So back in November, we came her for our regular Friday work lunch. A roach runs across the table while we're eating. They relocate is. But don't offer anything for us. Fast forward to today. After several months we decide to give it another try as we had heard the problems got fixed and the food is pretty good. The waiters are all new. Everyone got their food except me. He said he didn't hear me. So I ordered late. Then he brings the wrong thing! Keep in mind I'm on my work hour. Major rush. I thee up my hands at that point and said hell with it. This is supposed to be better? Pfft. Done! You've lost us as a regular lunch crowd on Fridays. Here's a tip Dora, get your shit together.

Awful--just awful. The restaurant smells stale; the food even worse. I'm really surprised this place is still around with so many new options in the area / city. STAY AWAY so they close....

Tried it...did NOT like it. I am mexican and I know how mexican food should taste like and what I had was not mexican food or anything like it. I left most of the food on the plate, thats how bad it was. The waitress did not even bother to ask if the food was ok..sad. not coming to this place even if the food was free.

This restaurant is dirty and in need of repair. The green chile on my sister's burrito was lukewarm. My fish tacos were terribly salty. I'm surprised this place is still open.

There queso is literally melted cheese with chopped green chile in it. It just slides of the stale chips and slowly turns into a solid ball of goop as it cools which takes about 45 seconds. My cousin ordered a taco salad. Thank god she stirred it up before she ate any of it because the ground beef in it was totally raw. Called the manager over and he said that happens when you cook beef for too long. I would love to know how long you cook ground beef to get it back to raw.

With all the low reviews, regretted buying the group on deal. Didn't want the trouble of getting refund and decided to meet my hot date here. Host was very courteous. Sat right away and greeted by server. ordered the $2 draft and chips and salsa came right out. It wasn't the best but wasnt bad either. Main dish came out in decent time. Nothing special to report but I was ready to taste the worst. 1. Spacious 2. Groupon deal 3. Draft beer special * there are few other Mexican restaurants nearby but Groupon deal and beer special makes Dora stand out bit more.

I'm super disappointed. I have been trying to come here for a long time because friends of mine talked so good about it. I ordered Dora's breakfast skillet with my choice of meat. I wanted the jalapeño sausage but they were out. I got the chorizo instead. The plate starts with frozen stake fries topped with cheese and overcooked dry chorizo accompanied with dry overcooked scrambled eggs. It was supposed to be smothered in green chili. Not sure what I got. My husband ordered a combo plate. His enchiladas and swimming in his oversized plate. Sorry it was not better. Staff was niceish. Prices are way overpriced for the quality I saw on my table.

    (1)
  • Tiffany A.

I ordered a combination. The whole plate was covered in a bland runny enchilada sauce. The "salsa" was basically tomato juice with a couple onions floating in it, and they didn't have anything spicy when requested. I stopped eating after the first couple of bites.

It used to be so good! I'm so disappointed! Will not be making the trek back for sub par food.

Came here for 3 reasons: 1. There was a Groupon. 2. We love Mexican-American food. 3. It is less than a 5 minute drive from us. BIGGEST GROUPON FAIL yet. We came in on a Tuesday evening and the place had only 2 other tables with customers. Not a great first impression on it's own. The polite teenage boy who was the host sat us at a nearby booth and brought us menus and chips & salsa. Upon eating our cold chips and salsa juice seasoned with dried herbs, we read a sign that stated something to the tune of "Due to rising food costs, your first basket of chips and salsa is free, but there is additional charge for more baskets." Understandable, but again, a bad impression. A waitress, who was apparently not our waitress, took our drink orders while we were waiting and stated that our server would be with us shortly, then she waited on the table to our left. We thought 7 at night was an odd time for a shift change. After getting our drinks, the waitress brought my husband an ice water but not me. We didn't order ice water, but would have liked to both have a water, not just whoever they thought would want one. I didn't bother ordering one as we had still not met our waitress 15 minutes into our visit. Several minutes later, a girl who was at the bar on her cell phone, came over to our table. Apparently, this was our waitress. She took our order and walked away, she didn't tell us her name or ask how we were, nor did she inform us she was our actual waitress. We assumed when she asked what we wanted. Our food came out within one or two minutes. I understand that food needs to be prepped, but gross. I ordered an enchilada plate and nothing was seasoned. My sauce tasted like tomato water, and my beef tasted like bland mush. My husband ordered a steak burrito with pork green chili. The chili was seasoned, but tasted canned. We finished our meal, then 15 minutes later the waitress to the left, the one that wasn't our waitress, asked if we would like a box. We said yes, I don't know why we wanted to save it, and she never came back. 5 minutes later our waitress came back and asked if we would like a box. We said yes, and simultaneously handed her our Groupon fearing it would be another 15 before we were brought our check. Only 5 minutes later we were brought our check that came out to $2.50 after the $20 Groupon has been applied. So our bill to be tipped upon was $19 and change. I then placed a $10 on my check and waited nearly 10 more minutes for change. Assuming we would not be returned to until our waitress had finished checking her social media, I promptly walked up to the bar where the bartender made me change. I tipped him $2 for our drinks, when he looked confused, I told him, "thank you for our drinks, (Shirley Temple, without cherries :( & $2 bud light) we will not be tipping our waitress." Being in the service industry, I never leave without tipping my server an appropriate amount. This was the first time in over 3 years that I have not left a tip. I wanted to love the closest place to me but I just couldn't. Well I guess she received a 50 cent tip she didn't earn, but I didn't want to wait even the extra 15 seconds to get coins.

Place has tons of potential, nothing changes much here over the course of multiple years, disappointed, The food is nothing special and some of it wasn't even hot. Waitress acted like we were annoying her but when she delivered the check, then she was sweet as pie. That was this afternoon. The place could use a little bit updating and some general maintenance I counted five lightbulbs in the area we that need to be replaced

I gave it one star for the decor and the nice enough waitress that was there. I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob, being from California and all. So when I was invited to go with my colleagues for lunch, I approached it with reluctance. I ordered a chorizo con papas (potatoes) burrito sans dairy or rice. But I wasn't expecting to just have a cold tortilla filled with crumbled chorizo and french fries. When I requested other things go in it, like salsa, maybe pico de gallo, maybe beans, I was told they are not allowed to fill the burrito. She offered to put my toppings on the top. But I wasn't expecting the salsa to be so loose. My salad was placed on the side and everything was covered, like a soup of some sort. I wasn't even offered a lime wedge or jalapeno! I ate it because my coworkers were both satisfied with their meals and I didn't want to be negative. But my stomach burned a little after the fact, as did a coworker who ordered an enchalada (covered in loose salsa). At least the so-called burrito was under $6. But I don't think I'll ever go back to this place.

This place was good at one time but that was long ago, the interior is worn out the seats are duct taped and the staff is rude. Look close at the decor and you'll see dust Bunnies and cob webs... The food was good once upon a time too. But now that's just a fading memory. Sad.... Clean it up guys we miss you...

Despite some of the lower reviews, I still love Dora's. Been coming here for a long time with the family-One of my dad's go to places for dinner out. Service is usually good, never really had a terrible experience. I like the fact they have two patios. The house margs are not that bad, but usually I get one of the specialty margs because the house mix is too sweet for me. The chips and salsa are in my top five favorites.

    (4)
  • Kelly H.

We came here for a late dinner last night. Service was very speedy and friendly. The chips and salsa were just plain not good. Chips were nothing special and salsa was super watery and had no heat. We both had the steak and avocado burrito. The steak was good but the green chile had that "gravy" flavor and no heat. Nothing special. Won't be back.

The food tastes stale. The service is okey, but if you are a single diner they have a tendcy to overlook you. There are better Mexican places near by...go to them.

Good solid Mexican food. I think if I had read most of these reviews I would have skipped Dora's. But I'm glad we did go. We went on a Thursday night with a Groupon and were very happy with our server. He was kind and attentive, super friendly and went back to check with the kitchen to see if they put flour in their tamales after my mom asked. The green chile sauce was great, the tamales were average and I personally loved the carnitas. The carnitas dish I got was flavorful without being too salty. Honestly the only thing I didn't care for was the chips we received when we sat down. They tasted pre-packaged and stale. Everything else was great!

I am sorry that Dora's lost their liquor license. There are two reasons for this. First, I would imagine that it is very hard for a business when they lose this revenue stream, and that it reduces the number of customers. And second, I probably would have enjoyed my meal here a whole lot more if I had not been sober. The first basket of chips here is complimentary (that is clearly stated in the menu). The salsa with it is a rather good house salsa. The basket of chips is quite small, so you may find yourself wanting more, but not wanting to pay for it. I came here on a Saturday at noon, and was a little disappointed that they would not let me order from the lunch menu. I kind of expect "lunch time" = "lunch menu", but so be it. From the dinner menu, I ordered the Tacos de Carnitas. This is 3 tacos of cubed pork slow cooked in a blend of spices, served on white corn tortillas, served with beans, pico de gallo or repollo de gallo and avocado slices (for $12). It was extremely disappointing. It did have several fresh and ripe avocado slices. It also had enough lettuce and tomato on it to make a small salad, if one were so inclined. The tortillas themselves were okay. The cubed pork was skimpy, relatively flavorless, and tough. These dried out nuggets of pig appeared to have been toughening in a refrigerator for quite some time before being reheated for my tacos. The refried beans were perhaps the worst I have had at a Mexican restaurant in years, and were indistinguishable from canned. Service was good. Parking and seating were ample (and I am not surprised). Addendum: We had one more Groupon to use, so we went back. I had the chicken fajitas this time. They were a little pricey at over $15, but they had a fair amount of chicken in them. There was onion and green pepper, but no red bell peppers in the mix. The flavor was decent. There was a side of the not so great beans, some shredded cheese, a relatively large cup of sour cream, and a small portion of pico de gallo. There were no extra veggies to put on the fajitas, which would have been nice. Service, as per last time, was good.

We came here for an impromptu lunch. It took the waiter 10 minutes to greet our table then another 15 minutes for us to receive our beverages. The service here is sub par at best. Definitely won't be coming here again.

God help me, I read all the reviews and went anyway. People, there is a reason that places offer Groupon.....they're desperate for business. High priced, low quality, nasty, flavorless food. Period!! My only wish is that they read these reviews and do something about the prices, service and taste of the food. They need one of those restaurant make-overs like you see on TV.

Stopped in on spur of the moment lunch. Place had an odd smell. Our server was very nice and things went quickly and smoothly. The food just wasn't very good. I got the steak and avacado burrito and my husband the chicken burrito. Both were just meat in a tortilla. It was more like Taco Bell type food, just a lot more expensive. We won't be going back.

I went here because they had a Groupon available. I can honestly say I have driven by this place 1000+ times and wondered what is was like. I always see that they have happy hour specials daily and that is what catches my eye every time. Well, on this day I decided to take the plunge. Here is my outlook: Staff: Attentive and gracious. Prices: Overpriced Mexican food is a FAIL. I don't know why it cost so much for a three item combo AND it was extra from rice and beans. DISASTER! Food: Somebody please help them. I thought I was getting some tortilla chips from a bag at King Soopers with a side of Pace Picante sauce (get a rope!) The ground beef in my taco had as much seasoning as a piece of cardboard. My chicken and bean burrito had about three times as much beans as it did chicken. However, I asked for a chili relleno cooked crispy and it was pretty awesome! The only bad thing about it, it was only as big as my thumb. Drinks: I had two patron margs, but the two margs tasted completely different, like they didn't use the same ingredients. Would I be back? Maybe for a quick drink for a happy hour, for the food - I would rather run to the border and get a Doritos Locos Taco. I am just being honest..........

On 8/24 we stopped into Dora's. Very disappointed. The food is usually good (not great, but good/comforting), and it's a nice relaxing atmosphere... However, today, we had been seated, and after waiting 15 minutes finally a waitress walks by and says I'll be with you in a second, and then proceeds to take the order of a customer that had only recently walked in the door. After waiting an additional 5 minutes, we decided to leave. On the way out, I asked to speak to a manager, and after another long wait, she finally came up. I informed her of the situation, and that we would be leaving, her response was a short, "Sorry". No offer to even try an convince us to stay. The excuse was, they were short handed... Having worked in the restaurant business (albeit many years ago), I do understand that, however, that's not really a decent excuse/reason when there are only 5 tables in the place that had people at them. Definitely will not be going there again. A bit over priced and poor Mexican food. Tequilas down the road has far better Mexican food and the service is a little better but not much. The food at Dora's is salty and the carnitas were bland. I won't be back again, and won't recommend it but happy I tried it out at least.

Great food - I had the vegetarian options which were so good. I cannot wait to go back. The prices are reasonable, the portions are big and the staff are really friendly. A server gave us a big additional corn chips at no cost to take home with out left overs without us even asking! Will definitely be back :)

Dora's is a pretty solid Mexican restaurant right off of Parker and Iliff. I recently purchased some Groupons for Dora's and thought we would give it a shot. Both times we were sat outside on the patio, which worked out perfectly to enjoy the cooler, autumn evenings. We also ordered Don Julio margaritas on both visits, and I can attest that they were made about perfect and pretty tasty. For dinner, I have ordered a combo plate and some enchiladas. My partner has ordered some tacos and a combo plate as well. Nothing I have eaten here has blown my taste buds completely out of the water, but it hasn't been awful... I would say it is about average for decent Mexican food (you gotta remember we are in Colorado). All-in-all I can't really complain about our visits here. The service is always spot on and the food always comes out hot and in a reasonable amount of time. I would say if you haven't checked our Dora's, it may be worth a visit if you're in the area and craving Mexican.

    (3)
  • Ashley C.

The food is extremely bland for being Mexican. Chips were cold as were the tortillas. Meat lacked seasoning. I even thought the margaritas lacked alcohol.mediocre. However, staff was pleasant and enjoyed decor.

  • Christina M.

I'll admit I've ate here about 3x and initially because I carried a Groupon. However I've only ate here the other times out of pure laziness (~not wanting to food shop and I was hungry for more than a granola bar). The food is okay and pretty standard, no frills. Dora's receives my delightful two star rating for 3 reasons. 1. Chaotic and closed ad lib hours. It's Friday night and 8pm, but the doors are locked... and no signs on door plus no voicemail stating hours of operation. Ok? 2. Old stinky dusty decor and yes, there's an a stench: smells like the Goodwill. 3. NO REAL HOT SAUCE. Tabasco only!! WTH!? I'm a simple girl, happy with a corn tortilla and ...real house made hot sauce and all that is available is Tabasco! How can Dora's call it self a Mexican Restaurant! Fail Dora's. Big Fail.

Decided to give Dora's a try om a Saturday eve 7PM. I'm one that prefers to sit at the bar which I did. Thought the bartender might be grateful to have a customer at the bar as I was the only person in the bar. I couldn't have been more wrong! Most surly bartender I have run into. Order a drink, out came the curled lip and eye roll. Ordered food, yup curled lip and another eye roll. Ordered another drink, pffft huge eye roll and I thought the lip could reach me across the bar. Food was just O.K. nothing to write home about. That constant eye roll and lip will keep me from ever returning though. Maybe Dora is going to retire soon and has gotten all the $$$$$ outta this place she want's. Place has gone into the ditch though.

We went to Dora's because we had a Living Social. We will definitely go back. Two things I loved; the marg's and the spinach enchiladas. It's rare that as a vegetarian I get to have red sauce on my enchiladas because it usually has chicken broth. These were the best spinach enchiladas I've had in Denver. The red sauce was unbelievably good, very flavorful. I quite drinking restaurant Marg's because I just don't like the cheap mixer most restaurants use and I get a headache from the mix-but our groupon came with two margs. They were surprisingly good. A kind of "good, cheap marg." I would have ordered another if I had been in the mood to drink a bit more. The biggest disappointment was the guacamole. It seems processed-like the kind you pick-up at a grocery store that's sold in a pouch.

    (4)
  • Daniel J.

Our server was really nice and the atmosphere is very cool. Bloody Mary was not very good, and the food was bland. We were very excited when we walked in, but left wishing for more.

We stopped in on a Tuesday for a margarita and like Sarah said there was a weird smell...We ordered 2 Skinny margs which he made with nothing but tequila n lime. .Hard to drink especially when it smelled like I had a dirty diaper taped under my chair. Shame cuz this place could really have potential if anyone cared.

What happened to this place? We've been going here for at least 20 years and it's pretty obvious they are headed in the wrong direction. First, they lost their liquor license - not sure when they will get it back. More importantly, food and service are way below par. On our last visit, the prices had gone through the roof, and service was slow at best. On top of that we got a bowl of chips and salsa that was half full, then when we requested more chips we got charged $1.50. I hope they get their act together and re-focus, or they will be out of business soon.

I bought a LivingSocial deal for Dora's and came here for dinner recently. The deal was for 2 margaritas and then $30 for food & drink. Well, when we got to Dora's, there were signs that their liquor license had been suspended/expired, so they couldn't serve any alcohol. Ummm, I just bought the deal on Living Social 2 weeks ago....why did they offer margaritas in it???? We stayed and got dinner and some soda. The food was ok, but I've had much better. But, I really like having a margarita with my mexican food. So, that disappointed me. There's no need for me to come back here....

um if anyone has had REAL Mexican food you should run from here..i got sick from their margarita and received watered down salsa, cold quesadila, queso was so so..service was aight..the waitress tried to convince me my food was fresh although my cheese would not move :( seriously yall ...NEXT

  • Nicole S.

The food is overpriced but the service is sincere. They have some interesting seafood combinations (we tried the spinach and shrimp enchiladas), but having to pay extra for rice and beans with the build-it-yourself combination platters is a huge drawback. It's really only worth it if you have a Groupon or other deal.

    (3)
  • BA M.

I'm not sure what has happened to this place over the past few years, but the dropoff lately has been dramatic. I don't know if the Groupon deals they're always running has forced them to cutback on food quality, or if they just currently have a bad kitchen staff, but after my last visit, I wouldn't return to eat if paid. The service and decor has always been solid, but the ingredients and quality of food now is just embarrassing. The beans taste like refried's out of a can, and the green chile is bland and boring to say the least. Mexican food is so cheap to produce to begin with, that I can't imagine how they can screw these items up. I might try it again, someday, once the memory of the terrible food has faded some, but it will likely be a LONG time before that happens. Just too many decent places which don't screw up Mexican food to take a chance on Dora's.

I saw the Groupon Now for this place and met a friend for Happy Hour. I hadn't been here for 3-4 years. It used to be my go to Mexican place on that side of town. The bartender was good, the beer was cold (and cheap at Happy Hour), the chips and salsa was good, but, and there is usually a "but". The food was boring. Maybe next time will be better.

  • Jen L.

So I would definitely come back for the enchiladas. They were gooey, cheesy, yummy. I used my chips to make sure I got all of the sauce off my plate. However the burrito and the guacamole tostada that come with the H were mediocre at best. They filled the hole, but were not memorable. The green chili had no heat. Over all I though the dish was pretty salty too. Service was prompt, but wasent friendly. The waitress walked away after asking how everything was. I guess it didn't matter because she didn't wait for an answer. At one point she acknowledged forgetting about me while I waited for my check. I'm in this area once a month, I might return, might not, but would not come out of my way for this place.

  • K L.

Food has always been good. Prices have gone up. It is not a good value. I have only gone there lately with groupon or living social deals. Service is usually good, but not consistent. Men's restroom is in need of maintenance. I have never seen the owner working although I hear she is there in the daytime. The place is taking a slow spiral down. Some hands on management might turn it around.

Can't believe this... we had dinner on the patio and there was a woman smoking a cigarette. The staff even gave her an ashtray. Isn't this illegal? It was certainly annoying. Food mediocre and pricey

Worst Mexican food we've ever eaten. Ever! I ordered a Mexican Hamburger. Described in the menu as "1/3 pound choice Angus burger topped with refried beans, folded in a flour tortilla and smothered with green chili". One look and I instantly had flashbacks of those perfectly shaped salisbury steaks for lunch in grade school. One bite and I knew it was something frozen and seriously debated if it was actually meat. Didn't say anything and put a piece of it on my husband's plate for him to sample. He was barely able swallow it and told me not to eat it....as if I was going to.....He was already working on his chicken fajita salad that was plain iceberg lettuce with a few pieces of cold dried out chicken on the top. I stopped eating and was glad I did after I notice how filthy my surroundings were. I'm never one to say anything. I was a waitress for 5 years so I know to just not go back. Would have emailed the restaurant directly but no source of contacts on their website.

The food is very bland here and the service is quite forgetful. We came in on a groupon and left feeling weighed down, tired, and bored. Nothing had any flavor and it seemed like it was reheated from yesterday. Gross. Let the food coma begin.

ill start by saying- yey they have agua de horchata!!! not the best but ill take it. The "Pozole" ok taste but wrong color and wrong concept. I don't even remember what I had I think it was the enchiladas or the flautas and i know i didn't like them, Specially the fried ice cream!! yuck, won't return here i hope so at least.

Came here recently for a family get-together. There were close to 20 of us and we'd reserved the patio just for us. In the beginning the service was excellent but as the night wore on the wait staff all but disappeared. I had to go flag down the hostess to actually get our water to come back, which is never a good sign. The food was decent. I ordered a taco/burrito combo with the green chile. The green chile had no spice but the meat was actually a pretty good flavor. Overall, I'd probably go back. There was a very cool ambience here and the place was nice and huge.

Went to a party at Dora's for a friend of my wife. If you are looking for a decent space to host a large group this place is pretty good. Kind of has a weird, touristy decor that it is only okay in a Mexican restaurant. However, the food was bland, let me repeat, the Mexican food was bland. Granted, all we had were chips, and a couple of appetizers, but a lot can be gleaned from your chips and salsa alone. In this case, the salsa was watery and the chips were thick and stale. I ordered the chili cheese fries and some fried mushrooms and zucchinis with a chile sauce. The chili was also very bland. On the fries, it was a poor balance between not enough cheese to chile ratio on previously frozen steak fries. I agree with other yelpers who state service was slow. While the lady seemed very nice, we did not see her come by enough for our sake or the business' sake, because I probably would have had another beer, which was very cheap on happy hour. Overall, if your looking for a generic Mexican restaurant or a great happy hour then this is your place.

Mediocre food at a high price (for this type of Mexican food). Dora's was overstaffed, but waiters weren't readily available. The prices were ridiculous. Everything was $1-3 higher than most comparable Mexican places I've been to (except happy hour drinks, which were a good price). You are nickle-and-dimed at every step. Want extra cheese? $2.50 Refill on chips or salsa? That's extra, too. Ridiculous. The food came out immediately, which was great. Dora's take on Mexican food is fairly American - the food tends to be on the blander side with not much spice (this can be good or bad -- but if you want authentic food, this is not the place). The menu was limited on the Mexican selections and missed some things I would have expected to see. I think the American food (burgers, sandwiches, etc) had just as extensive of a selection as the Mexican food on the menu. In short, this might be an ok place to grab a drink or small meal when you are in the mood for Mexican but the person you are with isn't -- but you will pay a premium for the ability to do that (and neither of you will "win").

This use to be a favorite when I lived in Denver and I just recently took my Cali husband here for some "Mexican" food. I was a bit nervous, as we have some GREAT Mexcian places in California. We ordered the chili con queso, which is totally the bomb! I don't know how they make the queso so stringy and flavorful without it being greasy. Truly my favorite menu item, especially with a beer! My husband had tacos, which he thought were fabulous. My son had a smothered burrito and thought the sauce was a bit spicy, but not overly hot. As for me, I had a chili relleno and a shredded beef burrito, both of which were full of flavor and very fresh. I'm not sure why the reviews seem to be all over the place, but the three of us all enjoyed our meals and would DEFINITELY come back here next time we are in town.

I love Dora's! Yes it is a little on the pricey side for Mexican food but my family really enjoys it. I love the combo meals. The bean burrito with green chile, beef taco, and cheese enchilada is my favorite. The sauces are delicious! You do get 1 basket of chips and salsa for free but it costs more for refills. Same thing for sodas but the glass is so large that I have never needed a refill. I will continue to eat here for sure.

Love Doras food but think it's just a smidge pricey although the atmosphere and waitstaff make it worthwhile.

Good food for good prices. Is it the most authentic Mexican food? Probably not, but it's really good food. The burritos, chili rellenos, and fried ice cream are all especially delish. The service has been a hit or miss here, but mostly hits.

So, with no better ideas for dinner, and a Groupon hanging on the fridge, we decided to head back to Dora's. Much better on a Sunday. Easily wins 'Least favorite Mexican food' in the city. The fajitas we ordered were all out bad. The only positive thing I can say is that they made noise for a few seconds after they dropped them on our table. The chicken, peppers and onions were bland and greasy, really greasy. The tortillas - rubbery, a tiny cup of King Soopers cheese and sour cream, and a small bowl of Rosaritas canned refried beans (the same kind we buy at Costco). My little girls ordered fries and bacon (weird, but thats how they roll). Both the fries and bacon were deep fried. I fail to understand why anyone would deep fry bacon, but the steak fries were also bad. They were hot for a little while, but that is about the best I can say. I scoffed when I read a reviews comparing Dora's to Casa Bonita and Taco Bell. I now know those people were being kind. Very kind. Maybe the best part - when given the bill, I asked for an itemized version, but was told don't provide those. So after adding everything up from their menu, two sides of bacon, a childrens soda and a Coors light came to $19.45. Hmmm. I wish I could give negative stars.

Decided to give Dora's another try, food was basic but tasty. I had the taco plate and my friend had the chicken and shrimp enchiladas, the only problem with this place is the cost, her enchiladas were hardly worth the 15.00 even though they were good. Try the guacamole, it was the best part of the meal, the small is huge!

Dora's is run of the mill basic Mexican food. Its good, not great. They have a big menu with everything from tacos to rellenos to burritos. You know, your normal Americanized Mex fare. It is a relaxed atmosphere. They have a large party room to the left when you enter and lots of booths and and comfy seating throughout the rest of the place. I have always had good service and enjoyed my dinner. It might not satisfy your need for authentic Mex food, but it is a good overall experience in the end.

This was our first visit to Dora's (my wife's pick) and while I am not a huge fan of Mexican cuisine, I must say that I was impressed. From the moment we walked in the door the service was friendly and prompt--definitely the atmosphere of a family owned and operated business. As for the food, it was both delicious and filling. The menu was quite extensive offering traditional Mexican fare as well as a variety of dishes with a twist (i.e. french fries covered with cheese and chile verde), and even hamburgers. Yep, there is a little something for everyone! On this particular evening, my wife ordered "Dora's Chimichanga" while I went with the "Stuffed Sopapilla". For dessert we decided to share "Doraitos Delight", two small pastries stuffed with cream cheese, covered with a strawberry sauce, and topped with whipped cream. A great night out at a good price. Next time my wife suggest heading out for Mexican, I'll gladly agree to Dora's. If you're in the mood for good food, served up with friendly service, I would definitely recommend you try it too!

not bad but not good, a classic mediocre meal with decent portions. service was friendly with a nice decor for positives...

  • Michael P.

Its alright. Went in there with a BOGO, which made the value a bit better. The decor is ...alright, they certainly have plenty of space, but not a ton of customers to fill the space. The Burro I got was alright....didn't really care for the ground beef (reminded me a bit of Taco Bell), but I ate most of it. Overall, eh, I might go back, who knows.

Has good food with a twist like the bacon wrapped shrimp which was good but felt a little overpriced. Has a decent bar with good prices but what else can I say about Mexican restaraunts? Still on my quest to find good mexican food here in the Denver area. Is there any?

  • Trevor L.

This was the worst restaurant we've been to in a while. 10 minutes after we were seated before the server came, salsa tasted like canned tomato sauce, the food had no seasoning, and the $5 kids meals consisted of a small tortilla, a few shreds of cheese, and 7 or 8 fries. Just bad.

  • Lindsey D.

I ordered take-out from Dora's, and I'll agree that the staff is very friendly and efficient. However, I was not impressed with the food at all. I will not eat there again.

    (2)
  • Phil L.

It's been a while since I've eaten there, hopefully they've improved their food, the food tasted like it came out of a can and was just microwaved, I would never pay full price or eat there again and it's less than 1/4 mile away from my home..

    (2)
  • Eric S.

Yuck. Are tamales smothered in green chili supposed to be hard? Is the pork soaking in green chili supposed to be dry? This used to be a good place a few years back. What happened. My guess, the overuse of a microwave. Fresh food would have been been better.

I've been on a mission to find some decent carne asada and once again- no luck. The food here gets two stars- not bad but just taste generic. I feel like I'm back at Las Delicias. (I rated them as a Mexican version of Denny's or Village Inn) I kicked in another star because the staff was friendly, the decor was cute, and the food was out fast. However, the food was blah. Not going to be back.

Went to Dora's with a Groupon because I hadn't been there in years. It was just OK. The food was more expensive than I anticipated ($12-$15 for fajitas and a combination plate). There was plenty of food but it was pretty flavorless. The taco seemed like they had taken the shell out of a box and slapped some ground beef in it. Very disappointing. On the bright side. The bartender and server were great, and the margaritas were very good.

  • Richard D.

Today I made my first trip ever to Dora's Mexican Restaurant. At first blush it is a good looking space and huge. But the menu was a disappointment. Too big in my opinion and too much space dedicated to Burgers and Wraps. The food was a bit of a disappointment also. I had Shredded Beef Enchiladas and they were incredibly bland. Where's the Carnitas and the Tacos al Carbon....Not sure if I would go back, lots of better Casual Mexican restaurants in the Denver area.

  • Chris B.

Ok, here is the bottom line. The food is not great but if you have a few beers prior to it arriving, you will be pleased. I know this because it is how I survived when taken here. The reality of the situation is with 4-5 beers in you, almost all Mexican food is descent. But, even with such it was just barely descent so I know it would be a bad trip otherwise. Do yourself a favor and go down the street for better food.

Been past here 1000 times, but only stopped to eat because we had a groupon. We were told there was a wait, which we waited for about 20 minutes. When someone finally walked us back to a table, there were at lease 20-30 empty tables in the restaurant, not sure what the reason for the wait was? Anyways, the food was decent, it came out of the kitchen no less then 90 seconds after we ordered. Which was nice cause we were in a hurry, but that also meant that the food was probably readily made, sitting back in the kitchen. The chips and salsa tasted straight outta the bag. I liked my burrito until I found a hair with the follicle still attached to it swimming in the green chili. I can't stand hair in my food so we stopped eating. Definitely won't be returning here even if its free. Ick!

Dora's has been around for eva eva and has remained consistent through the years. The location is easy to get to and the restaurant itself is huge. The staff is friendly and the food comes out the minute you order it. (How do Mexican restaurants do that? Heat lamps and leprechauns?) They have my favorite kind of rellanos here. In wonton wrappers. Muy authentico, just like in messy-co. Otherwise the food is pretty much what you expect from Mexican restaurants in Colorado: green chile, fried things, soaked in sauce and sour cream, glorious. This is the perfect place to bring a friend to catch up as it's never so busy that you feel rushed out the door. It's also a good place to bring an "in case I hate you" date since the food is immediately at your table. Depending on your ability to inhale the food you can bounce in like 20. Not that I've ever done that. ahem.

I've been wanting to check out Dora's for a while. Finally went last night despite all the negative reviews. We LOVED it! Everyone was soo friendly. The portions and prices were great. I got a black bean and rice burrito with a side of rice. It was delish! The rice was not over cooked or dry. The burrito was not overstuffed, it was the perfect size. We got spicy queso to go with our chips...oh man was it awesome! It was made with real cheese, not a cheese sauce. Can't wait to go back and try the margaritas!!!

THE WORST Mexican food I have ever been served. Stay away! I have eaten in numerous states and countries and , OMG- horrible. The dust a& dirt in the serving area was about 1/2 inch thick. The way the food tasted, it made me wonder how horrible the kitchen cleanliness must be. I am seriously thinking about calling the health department because I tasted horse meat . It is a shame we cannot rate it a ZERO! A Kaiser Nurse.

The posole here rocks. I wish I'd ordered the bowl instead of the cup. I don't want to retract my low rating for the flautas, but this is a decent spot for Mexican food, good service, and convenient. My kids like it, too.

I too went here because I had a groupon. The food was cold when it came out... Taco salad came with no dressing so we asked the waiter for some ranch dressing... BY FAR the worst ranch dressing I have ever tasted.

My dad said he'd heard good things, so we stopped in for dinner. I've been in search of another Mexican place since my favorite kind of started to slip and my new boyfriend isn't really a fan. We were promptly seated when we walked in, no wait... I was pretty happy about that although it was a Sunday night. The decor was fitting, horrible peach and sea foam green that anyone who has grown up in the southwest would identify with all things Mexican. The texture on the walls was interesting. I couldn't tell if they meant for it to look like the drywall is flaking off or if it was just telling of their maintenance. We get our drinks, which are huge; things are looking up. My dad says the margaritas are good... and decently priced at only $5. Come to find out, they don't give out free refills, thus the humongous drinks. You'll still go through at least one though eating their chips and salsa unless you pace yourself. The salsa was good, not too hot and decently made... but the chips look like they came out of a bag and were nearly saltless. I ordered Tacos Carbon (steak tacos) forgoing my usual Flautas for something a little more Mexican. BIG MISTAKE! The shells aren't hard at all, which I guess means they are fresh? Well they really aren't shells, they would have to be described as unheated tortillas straight from a bag. In the end, what it means is that my steak tacos have now become steak taco salad. The menu says they come with 'avocado', so I'm thinking freshly sliced avocado? What I get is a pathetic excuse for guacamole that looks and tastes like the byproduct of some bad formula or something that was recently in a diaper. Oh, by the by... rice and beans have to be ordered as a side, which is another $2 on top of the overpriced $10 which I am already paying for tres tacos. I wouldn't have minded if they were worth it but the rice was just another 'white' version of what it really should have been in a place that strives to be 'authentic'. Finally, we get to the service, the cherry on the Sundae, the icing on the cake... pies de resistance. After about 20 minutes of manhandling my taco into a salad and watching the waitress walk by several times I lose all hope of receiving reinforcements; extra napkins. I had to actually get up from the table and ask the bus boy for some, since every time my waitress walked by she did all she could to avoid any eye contact or proximity to the table that might commit her to any extra work. I return to the table, triumphant in my journey, napkins held high and walk right by the waitress who has stopped to check on one of her more favorite tables. She doesn't even look at me. Five minutes go by, and the boyfriend is complaining that he has needed another drink for quite some time and he never got his flour tortillas with is food that he had ordered specifically. Thirty five minutes into the expedition, she returns... we cheer! We all stumble over each other, each one of us trying to get our last requests in before she disappears into the abyss. She apologizes about the tortillas, finally brings them with the check. I could have made an entire Mexican meal for 3 people with less then the $45 it cost us to go out. I could have made it in half the time I spent waiting. The answer that you already know to the question of will I return: an emphatic HELL NO.

I wish I would of read some of these reviews before going. Our waiter was fantastic! But I must say... First walking in, the place is musky, smells like old frying oil, the lighting is so dim even during the day time that you can't see the dust on things but it's there. Chips and salsa? The salsa in made with tomato sauce out of a can, they chop some jalape~os, onions and cilantro and that's THEIR salsa. That's not salsa people.... tomato sauce is not salsa.... I ordered carne asada, my husband pork tacos. As soon as the plate hit my table, I knew what they did, the rice and the beans were over heated in the microwave. It looked as if the plate with rice and beans was sitting for a long time, the top of the beans had a THICK layer, the cheese on it was dry and hard... the rice? The edge where the rice was less, the rice was dried up from it being warmed too long in a microwave. Now to my carne asada, seasoning people, seasoning... Bad enough that the steak was so thin and over cooked it felt like I was eating beef jerky but no seasoning... NONE what so ever. Even me putting some salt on it, didn't help. The waiter saw that my plate was untouched, he took it off my bill, he knew exactly why and he even said.... I know, am sorry.... I was once told by a old Vietnamese man, when I asked him about an Asian restaurant in town.... When you go to a restaurant, pay attention to the customers, if it's a Mexican place and it's good... you will see natives, same goes to Asian, American and any other cuisine.... I should of paid attention.... NEVER AGAIN

I went to this restaurant last night for the first time. I have heard mixed reviews both on Yelp and other locations. We ordered appetizers entrees and desserts, no drinks. I was overall displeased with the restaurant. Here are the details of our meal: The chips and salsa were OK; the salsa was watery which is not my favorite, but it was OK. The chips were supermarket-style, and not the good kind. I thought the menu was pretty lame, with your standard burritos, tacos, etc; but nothing too exciting. We ended up ordering the "sampler" appetizer along with a seasoned-pork entree that I cannot recall the exact name of. The sampler platter came with several deep fried items that were all extremely greasy and gave both my girlfriend and I some serious gut rot. We literally bit into these "pepper poppers" and grease poured out of them. It was gross. The cream cheese filled tortillas tasted like the cheese was moldy. The platter also came with deep fried tortilla chips, but these too were over fried and dripping My main course was pretty good, although by that time my stomach was hurting from the appetizer and the chips. The rice on the side was standard but good, the refried beans were subpar. Again, I had the seasoned pork dish, and I would have it again. My girlfriend ordered a taco-pizza-ish type "thingy", along with tacos and enchilladas. They were all of poor quality and she didn't finish anything. We both left with a solid "meh" feeling and decided we would not go back.

Oh My Gawd... as in the food here is Gawd-Awful! Allison P., you hit it on the head... this has GOT to be Casa Bonita's twin sister restaurant! I laughed when I read your review, because I said the same EXACT thing before we even pulled out of the parking lot. Talk about being dissapointed. I really wished I had read other yelp reviews prior to my visit. It starts off with not very authentic chips and sasla. The chips were like the generic kind you find in really bad discount chain grocery stores. The salsa had promise but was a bit over salted. We order the bean dip ($6.99) as an appetizer only to be delivered what looked like a bowl of soupy ground hamburer. Nary a bean to be found. The flavor was basically that; boiled hamburger with too much salt and other seasonings, which didn't help. I order the steak fajitas, my friend orders a combo plate ($9.99). I order steak fajitas ($17.99) with the thought that nobody f*cks up fajitas. But I have been wrong before. What shows up on my plate is a sh*t load of overcooked onions, accompanied by a few overly cooked bellpeppers and steak pieces that seem to have soaked in brine prior to being cooked. Along with this disaster comes beans, which I am convinced came right out of the can, 2 dry flour tortillas and little plastic cups of sourcream, guacamole, and cheddar cheese. So I am not reminded of my displeasure, I will skip comments on the combo platter by just stating that because you bury something in red sauce, does not hide the fact that it is still disgusting!! Please for the love of god, if you care about yourself at all, you will NOT torture your taste buds by choosing to dine at this 'establishment'. The only real mystery that remains, is how this place manages to stay in business.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
