When Mirage Restaurant moved across town a while back, did you wonder what could possibly fill its former space at Parker and Yale? Well, the proprietors of Haat Bazar a few doors down [see previous review] had some ideas of their own, and with a little help from their friends, have now converted it into an all-you-can-eat, all-the-time eatery serving foods from their native Bangladesh! The owners of Bengal Buffet are Muslim, and thus all meats (and other foods) on the premises are prepared and cooked according to strict Halal specifications. The sauce surrounding the chicken pieces in the curry dish often called Murgir Jhol is rich with chopped onions, garlic and ginger, while Kosha Mangsho [sometimes labelled simply "Mutton Qorma"] features large chunks of goat marinated in yogurt with turmeric and red pepper (among other seasonings) before being stewed for hours (still on the bone, for maximum flavor). At this juncture I should probably point out that when eating food from South Asia in general, the term "mutton" nearly always refers in fact to goat rather than to sheep, which are usually just included in the "lamb" category. Between 1947 and 1971, Bangladesh was part of Pakistan, despite the two countries sitting on opposite sides of India. Therefore, certain dishes often thought of as quintessentially Pakistani can be found at Bengal Buffet as well. One example would be the intensely juicy chicken kebabs which will almost invariably be offered during your dinner there. Another must-try item in this category is Biryani, in which basmati rice is first steamed with whole cinnamon, cloves and cardamom, *then* mixed with seared meat before the whole shebang is slow-cooked for a memorable mix of flavors. Meat, meat, meat. It's all I've talked about so far isn't it? Well, don't worry, you can find a few veggie options here too. The Palak Paneer is a zesty, earthy wonder, combining my favorite cubes of squishy cheese with the very Bangla veggie Sarson ka Saag (mustard greens). But there's also a very nice version of Dhal (stewed lentils or split peas) for you legume lovers. And on my last visit I was treated to a delicious (if rather spicy) combo of zucchini and potato as well. I guess my point is that you're bound to find something you like at the steam table at Bengal Buffet. And I haven't even mentioned the desserts, like Payesh (vermicelli in sweetened condensed milk), or Gulab Jamun (balls of fried dough in sugar syrup). So head over and stuff yourself silly, won't you?

This is probably the best Marsala and tandoori I have ever had.... For $12 it is very cheap and satisfying buffet

This restaurant should get 5 star rating .. but God!! I never seen such a bad service.. They did not even come to your table to see how you are doing. I forgive them for their best quality of food. They have the best Bangladeshi food you can get around Denver (Denver-New Mexico area ) I guess, coz I did not get chance to taste food in any other Bangladeshi restaurant. The food might be too spicy for some people. But I believe people from South India will like it. Anyway, this is not an indian restaurant so you won't see that many typical dish as you can see in any other indian buffet. This is also a halal restaurant and drinks are included with the buffet price.

By far the best Indian Restaurant in Colorado. The food has the right amount of spice , its not super spicy as the original South Indian or sweet as North Indian cuisines. I ate double the portions I usually take in, I was thrilled and full.

They just opened a few days ago. I noticed the sign and stopped by and figured I'd try it. It was $11 for the buffet, which as far as I know is all they had to offer. The selection was not especially large, maybe an entree or two less than Star of India, but with more rice varieties. They did say that they will be adding additional entrees soon. The amazing thing about this place is the flavor. I've never had Indian food this flavorful (or Bengali to be specific) . Two dishes that are normally not my favorite, saag (Indian term) and the chickpea dish, were amazing. The two rice dishes I had, one with chicken and one with goat were also amazing. They could nearly make a great meal in themselves. The goat was pretty good - some pieces were nice and tender, others had some bone or skin, which I'm lukewarm about, but the flavor was good. Also the tandoori chicken was a better than some others I've had. They also have a salad bar, which I didn't experiment with this time. I was served naan (I only know the Indian terms :), which was plain but good and very fresh. The one thing I'm used to seeing that wasn't there was the variety of chutneys and other various little items. Overall, I think this place has great potential. Even if they just stuck with their current selection I'd be back (and back, and back), but I'll be really interested to see what in the way of new items there is to be had. Highly recommended!

Authentic and very tasty biryani and chicken curry, also succulent tandoori chicken! Buffet only for lunch or dinner, or you can take out biryani by weight. Food is like a very good Bengali marriage "Bhoj" (feast). Probably in the top 3 Indian restaurants I have eaten at in the states, including NY and Chicago joints. Don't let the ambience scare you away, that is a downside though.

I am a big fan of Indian food. As this place is relatively new one of my friend wanted to try this one out. So we went there. This is the first time on Sunday for lunch I saw Indian place being empty. We walked in and there was only one person sitting on a table and she was a waitress in restaurant. She asked us to sit wherever we like. I looked around it looked like it was pretty old place. We went to take a food, it looked like the food is sitting there for hours if not days. I took some food and was looking for bowl and found that they don't keep bowls. Food was not good at all. Only thing I liked was onion pakoras. Biryani looked like made out of rubber goat. Chicken was not good either. For $11.00 food is no where near good. I will never return to the place and will not recommend it to any one.

It's hard to go wrong with a south Asian buffet, but I seem to have managed it. Should have kept driving a few blocks and gone to Jai Ho.

This place probably has the best mutton curry and biryani in Denver. While not amazing, the other restaurants cater more to the midwestern American palate and tent to make things too creamy or mushy. So they are mediocre at best, and would never survive in a city like Calcutta, for example. Nor would Bengal Buffet, but at least they are a bit more authentic. When this Calcutta wants Indian non-veg food, this is where I go.

And here I come to yelp all excited that I am going to take the opportunity to add this new restaurant on yelp. Forget it, seems like my fellow yelpers are way ahead of me. We had the chance of checking Bengal Buffet out at lunch time 2 days back. Were greeted in by a lady (who is probably the owner's wife) Once seated & after putting the high chair in place for our little one we decided to check the buffet out. For $10.99 per head including, salad, drinks & desserts it was not that bad. Dishes in the buffet included Chicken Biryani, Goat Biryani, Plain White Basmati Rice, Palak Paneer, Chana Masala, Goat Qorma, Tandoori Chicken, Veggie Pakoras and some cauliflower and potato dish. As soon as we started eating, the busboy brought us some fresh warm naan. The naan, besides being a tiny bit on the oily side was almost perfect. The best part about it was the fact that even at the end of our meal, instead of getting all stiff, the naans were still soft enough to chew. In the middle of our meal we were also brought some "Chicken Kababs" which were mild but tasty. My personal favorite was the Chana Masala (chickpeas). Though I prefer the chickpeas to be a bit tenderer; it had just the right spicy kick to it. Folks you HAVE to try it out. At the very first bite, it took me back to my school days in Dubai where our father used to take us to this place that served exclusively Pakistani style Chana Masala & Kulchas. Although, it did not have the "Pakistani" taste to it, all I am going to say is, their Chana Masala is probably the best I have ever tasted in US & this is coming from a girl who has lived in Chi city for quite some time. Also liked their Veggie Pakoras (fritters) Not a lot of restaurants can pull off Pakoras that are still crispy & tasty after laying in the buffet for some time. Didn't try their salad or desserts so can't comment on that. Over all verdict: I see a lot of potential in this new place. I do hope to see them add one or two more dishes to the buffet station. p.s they get an extra star from me solely because they serve Halal food. Finally, a Desi restaurant in Denver that caters to my dietary needs.

I eat here regularly and I will say that the Bengal Buffet has the best Indian food in Denver. In fact, the best Indian food I have eaten. The cooking and spices are truly unique. The ethnic differences of this fare vs. traditional, mainstream, americanized Indian really show through. It is spicy though, so it would be a difficult restaurant for kids. Go for the food. The atmosphere is spartan, but comfortable. Go for the food, it is the best in town. All you can eat and drink. I highly recommend it.

Fairly decent selection, but nothing spectacular. Unlimited drink refills included in the price of the buffet, but there was some difficulty in getting the machine to work. Unfortunately, both my husband and I felt sick after eating here! Not good...

I live nearby and noticed that a new restaurant had set up shop in the old Mirage location/ Russian nightclub location behind the smoker friendly. We are blessed with a diverse selection of ethnic restaurants in this neighborhood and we are always excited to see a new one in the neighborhood to try. Bengal buffet clearly just opened and they have a few things to work out with the decor...but the food was pretty impressive! We eat Indian quite a bit, so most items were familiar to us. Their starter of a chicken sausage kabob was something new I hadn't at the other Indian places-so that was a tasty treat! I also really enjoyed the biryani and the sagg paneer. I usually feel that buffets dumb down the level of spices/heat, here I did not notice it to be the case. It was the perfect level of spice- hot enough to remind you that you are eating indian, but not so hot your skin falls off. Overall it was a delicious experience, and we can't wait to return! Welcome to the neighborhood Bengal Buffet!

This place just opened up and the food was great. Great variety and great price for the all-you can eat buffet, including drinks and dessert. The food was not hot but warm but otherwise it was delicious.

Went there for an early lunch today with my family. It seemed like we were the first ones there, but the food looked like it was from last night. Everything was tasty , the staff was courteous, and the place was clean. I do help that they improve sine there are so few Zabihah halal restaurants in Aurora.

  • Shira Y.

It was good the first two or three times I dined here but the last time the chicken tasted horrible and was very dry. Know that kebab skewers that come with buffet are not buffet style- you get two small ones a piece with no seconds. The dessert is very good. I noted below that restaurant has TV- while it does, you will only be able to see Bollywood films.

Such a shitty place ... they are such a rip offs recently had a small party there and they charged us hidden fees which was not mention before. They ended up charging lot more than we initially had talked about. Food was not enough for all the guest even though lot less guest showed up than we estimated and paid for. The manager was very rude . I wont recommend it especially for having small get together or any kind of function or events. NEVER GOING BACK TO THIS PLACE AGAIN !!!

The bad: We came on a Friday evening and there were only two other people there and no music or any ambience whatsoever. I could tell there had been a couple of other people there earlier because their plates were still on the tables. They hadn't been picked up. There was also a lady who was working there, but she was just sitting at one of the tables in front of her computer, either working or on Facebook. Either way, it seemed really odd and definitely weird and somewhat uncomfortable. On top of all that, the soda fountain didn't work at all. Just the water. The good: The lady at the computer was very friendly though, when we had questions. The food is really good, a little spicy for me, but quite delicious. It's a bummer for me to write such a mixed review, but if they just added a little music, cleaned the tables, and didn't have their staff sitting in front of a computer the whole time, I would've given this place at least another star or two.

There was no service whatsoever. We filled our drinks, got our silverware. And had to take our plates. The woman basically ignored us. Didn't give us any directions, or explanations.Think we might have experienced a little prejudice. The food was spiced well.

Relatively new place, across from HMart. (diagonal across the intersection at parker) The native crew at work wanted to come here, so i figured, hey it must be good. Not a ton of choices, but seriously the amount of fat, cream, and calories in indian food, i don't need a ton of choices. What was there was great - a chicken and rice dish, a lamb and rice dish, saag panner, a chicken meatball dish (i'm sure that would not be what the real name is), a chick pea dish, the red chicken (as i call it),excellent bread, a salad bar and soda is included. The service is definitely friendly but a little lacking as far as clearing the dirty plates. The restaurant itself feels a bit too big, not cozy, but like sitting in a church hall - big and empty. Another neat thing, is you can also just come in and buy food by the pound! Lunch was $11 - not super cheap but definitely dishes i have not seen elsewhere and i left with a very full belly. they also play movies in the back on the big screen. I hope they continue to improve and stay around for a while! And you can just go pay on your way out, i'm not sure if they would every bring a check, but this worked for our group of 7!

Bengal buffet is another additon to Parker road Indian food joints. Their dishes are a bit different as their cullinery expertise lies more on the Bengal side (Bangladesh). In that sense it's great that Denver is becoming home to regional Indian cuisine like lot of bigger metro cities such as Chicago, Dallas, New York etc. I will allow them some handicap as they are a new business. They have "a lot" of room for improvement as far as their ambiance goes. I will be looking forward to that in the coming months. As everyone else mentioned in their reviews, their food has great potential although a bit tedious IMO as far as maintaining buffet lines and keeping their dining area clean, tidy and organized. Their main dishes were authentic to Bengali cuisine such as their goat biriyani, chicken curry. Their naan were also good. Chicken kabobs were a bit raw when I got them but flavorful nonetheless. Their chicken tikka were a bit dry when I picked them up from the buffet line, maybe sitting there for a little while! They also have a very nice live stage setup with a full PA setup, definitely a great place for live ethnic music when they are up to it. Congrats to Bengal Buffet for adding a Bengali restaurant restaurant in Denver and I hope they maintain their consistency of food taste and improve upon their quality of service and cleanliness of restaurant interior.

Went 2 or 3 times, many other places I'd rather go. Food just seemed old, flavor, nothing special. "Meh. I've experienced better."

  • David S.

For $11 I was stuffed with a sufficient variety of very good meat, rice and vegetable dishes. They will bring kabob to your table and the Naan is not only good, it is refreshed regularly. I will definitely come back again. Glad that this is so close to the Beautiful Ms. D's casa. The ambiance is not the most formal, that is good (+1 star). The food was all hot on the buffet line (+1 star). We were the only two whites among Indian and/or Pakistani patrons (+1 star). I tasted every dish on offer, and I was glad to see that they offer goat, an often under-looked meat in ethnic restaurants. All of the dishes were superb (+1 star). Certainly worth a try if you are looking for something different. Just a word of advice. I take my son (who is very well-versed in international cuisines) for Indian food and he always finds foods that he likes. He also likes moderately spicy foods. I am not sure that I would bring him to Bengal Buffet, however. The foods here do tend to be on the slightly spicier side than I think most kids would enjoy.

First of all this place has great food! The goat was my favorite and I usually don't like goat. Second if you're the type of person who needs service to feel good, this is not your place! We were greeted when we walked in by two freindly workers. We found a place to sit and then proceeded to gorge ourselves with all the yummy food! You get your own drinks and the staff hardly has any interaction with you, I appreciate being left alone in a buffet style restaurant. I will be going back for sure!

It was a cold rainy day, and we were both craving hot Indian food. Not just temperature hot. Indian hot. We were hungry enough that only a buffet would do, but where to find a dinner buffet that actually packs some heat? Thanks to Yelp we found this place. Unlike the majority of the one star reviews, we were greeted and seated upon walking in the door, although it's not necessary to sit first. Just grab a plate and start spooning stuff on your plate! There were about 10 entree choices, including goat biryani that was delicious, two kinds of rice, various sauces (raita, chimichurri, tamarind, etc), warm naan, a salad bar (skipped that), and soda machine. Everything had a kick to it. The heat, although not as lucky as I prefer, was pretty hot for a buffet. At 10.99 per person, including drink, it is a great deal. The curb appeal of this place is pretty terrible, and the inside wasn't much better. Tables were cleared of dishes, but several were dirty. That doesn't matter so much to me since the food was great!

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Why ? I love supporting a small business and in particular, owned by immigrants. In this case and based on the name, I'll assume they're from Bangladesh. The downside of this place is the inconsistency of the buffet. They make Mutton Biryani which is not easy to find in Denver. I love this dish but it's hit or miss with the quality. Specifically, the tenderness of the meat. The Mutton is either soft and tender or it's overcooked and non edible. The rest of the buffet is just meh so I come for only that 1 item. Don't expect much else from the inside as it's somewhat dark and ambiance is not a priority. But I don;t care about that, I just want consistency with the Mutton. PLEASE

The Boy and I ordered catering for our anniversary party. Whatever the buffet lacks in customer service, let me tell you, they make up for it with the service they provided us with our catering! Everyone was super friendly, the order was exactly what we wanted and fresh, made right on time for pick up. It was snowing outside when we picked up the order and they brought the food out to the car and made sure it was placed securely. We got tons of positive feedback from our friends and family about the food. We had enough food for about 40 people for just over $100. Love these guys!

Perhaps it's a different story if you're ordering off the menu, but the buffet experience here is nothing short of horrendous. At lunchtime on a Tuesday half the restaurant was dark / shuttered looking... Which should've told me all I needed to know. I was not greeted as I entered and had to get the server's attention to find out if it was self-seating, etc. Every tablecloth I saw had stains on it, and the buffet itself seemed like it had been put as an afterthought. Everything was poorly organized, unappetizing looking and lukewarm. But, I was there and I was hungry, so I decided to make the best of it and use the time waiting to see if the server would EVER take my drink order (she did NOT), hoping to eat enough to at least get my $10.99 worth (the food sucked by the way, I've had more delicious & satisfying meals at the mall food court)... but then my tongue felt that unsettling feeling of a hair (no, it was not mine... mine was tied up) in the middle of a mouthful of rice...and I was DONE. So let's recap, shall we? Ambience: nope. Service: sucked. Food: crap. Cleanliness: NOT. Recommend steering VERY clear of this place.

LOL. Came here with a friend, empty, with no one to greet us or serve us anywhere. We looked at the food which was greasy and non appealing but at least were full portions. Decided to give it a shot anyway but Soda machines did not work. The owner was I believe in the back outside and we called out for him to turn on the soda machines and to be of at the least assistance but no answer! The place was a ghost town! We filled our plates and sat down escorting our own selves. We noticed all the table cloths were completely dirty and was not acceptable to dine at I am surprised this food eatablishment is still open. SO WE LEFT...for sushi.

Response from the owner to my last comment. "I'm pretty your not a chef so when you become one then tell me and I'm pretty sure you never worked in a Dubai restaurant or got a college degree ever" Goes to show that he has no clue what he is talking about. What has a filthy place with unhygienic food got to do with a Dubai restaurant or a college degree???? And just to set the record straight, one does not need be a chef to appreciate good quality food and a clean environment. If you want good quality authentic Indian food, go to Monsoon in Southlands mall, Aurora or Azitra in Broomfield. You won't regret it.

This restaurant is now under new management since the 1st of March 2015. I have eaten here around 3 times since then and ordered take out twice. The food is pretty much the same as before since the cook has not changed. They have a new menu for takeout and have added some Nepali dishes to the menu (since the new owners are Nepali). The new owners are trying to improve the service quality. They now have free WiFi. I have been happy with the improvements and specially love their Onion Pakoras. The pakoras are the best I have ever eaten in my life.

This is the worst Indian food which I had in recent past years. Chicken Briyani was spoiled and bad smell was coming from the food. No hot food. Worst worst worst !!! No maintenance and mutton not boiled properly

Bengal buffet is as good as desi food can get in Denver. Okay there are a lot of people complaining about service. Here's what you have to understand. This is a buffet! And you're not coming for the service, you're coming for the food. When you walk in, don't expect to be greeted. Expect to grab a plate and fill it to the brim. The place has the same owner as Haat Bazaar next door. The location is shanty though so be warned. I am very particular when it comes to meat quality--I can tell if chicken is baasi (not fresh). Bengal Buffet seems to use fresh meat that doesn't have any bad flavor. The dishes are authentic. Meaning it isn't watered down to the point it's bland. If you want real Bengali/Pakistani/Indian food, this is the place to come to in Denver. They don't cheap out either. They put bellpeppers and cilantro in their tandoori chicken.

This place is so good! The outside doesn't look like much, but as far as I'm concerned, that's the number one way to tell that the food is going to be amazing. The buffet here is small, but has enough options for a great lunch. $11 for all you can eat and everything is so spicy and delicious. The naan is freshly made, with just the right amount of flakiness, with a thin layer of butter. They have vegetarian and meat dishes and some sweet desserts.

Casper, the friendly ghost, must live here because the place is deserted. There is no service whatsoever. You walk in and the place huge but empty. There is no one to greet you and there is some combination of food at the buffet table. I stood there uncertain for a couple minutes and went over the the buffet. The food was okay, but there wasn't enough of a selection for lunch. I went on a Wednesday afternoon around 11:45 p.m. This is when the food at a lunch buffet is supposed to look fresh and taste great. The food looked reheated. The price of the buffet was around $11.50, which wouldn't be bad if there were more than 6 items served.

Great, spicy Indian buffet for a good price, non-existent service. This place is tucked away in a strip mall near my job, and I walked over today for the buffet. Walking in, there is no greeter. You just pick a table, get your food and drink; you'll only interact with someone at the register when you pay. That said, like the other reviews, the flavor of the food was awesome. Best saag paneer I've ever had, awesome samosas, and spicy, delicious aloo gobi. I could have stayed vegetarian the whole meal, but I did have chicken masala and biryani, both were good. Also loved that this place had mango chutney on the buffet. Most Indian buffets do not. No ambiance or service, but quick yummy Indian buffet.

  • Jenny K.

The food seemed as if it has been sitting out all day. The naan was rock hard so the owner brought us out fresh naan. I think that was the only positive thing about our meal. The next day I had the worst food poisoning of my life. The restaurant was also completely empty when we arrived at 6pm. There is no music playing and since everything is self served (even the water and utensils) there was no interaction with a waitstaff and it made for quite an uncomfortable setting. The water had a slight chemical taste. Will not be back.

We went to a Sunday night buffet and there were not many options but good spread. There were two biryanis both muttun and chicken and both tasted super delicious. Just loved them.

When I first walked in my expectations were low. But this is seriously some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Spicy, delicious, run by a family. Will 100% be back soon.

Not good...
