Great little Thai spot off the beaten path. You are likely to find locals here enjoying the standards. Pad Thai was yummy and a bit more naturally peanutty than you may find elsewhere. I judge Thai food on sauce quality and the selection for the various dishes is excellent. They are working on liquor license, so it's Thai Ice coffee until then. Cute decor, great food and a very friendly staff should allow the happy bowl to survive the tough Aspen restaurant game.

far better than expected, especially after seeing the mixed reviews here. went with a group, and everyone was satisfied. tom kha and yellow curry were particularly good. staff was very nice and accommodating.

My daughter, granddaughter & I ate dinner here recently. They had only been open about a month at that time, but it was busy -- a good sign! It is located in the Clark's Market shopping plaza so there is no parking problem. The wild pumpkin soup is "out of this world" yummy! I took home the pad thai that my young granddaughter was unable to finish -- also very good. They do a land office business with take-out food, delivery is also available, and they do catering. It is open daily for lunch and dinner. Unlike a number of Thai restaurants where I have eaten, Bangkok Happy Bowl has good authentic Thai iced tea, too. There are only about 6 tables, so I would suggest going early if you want to eat in. Appetizers range from $4-9; stir fried bowls with tofu, chicken, or pork are $10.95 ($2 extra for beef; $4 for shrimp); Bangkok specialties are $16-19 (recommend the coco salmon). The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the owner stopped by to inquire as to how we were enjoying the food. I would return in a "New York minute!"

Nice sitting area.. Courteous staff and nice food .. We reached at 5 but could still order the items from their lunch menu .. When the server got my food it had broccoli , I am not a big fan of broccoli she smiled and quickly got back my noodles - drunken noodles they were called - without broccoli. The noodles were perfect for our pallet hot and spicy . Satay chicken was yum too. The best Thai iced tea I have had so far . Was awesome !

I ordered the fish which tasted like rubber! The waitress was nice and got me another dish which tasted good. If you are from a big city and are used to the commercial Americanized Thai food this place is probably too authentic for you. The lemon grass taste in the food was very strong and the spices they used were harsh which is usually the way in authentic Thai cuisine. Overall I recommend trying this place if you are really craving Thai otherwise there are a lot of better options in the area.

Mouth. Is. Happy. I ordered the Royal Duck Curry! Aptly named and fit for a King, Queen, AND all the Princes & Princesses! Perfectly spiced and brimming with flavor from curry, lychee, pineapple, tomatoes, carrots, zucchini, broccoli, green pepper, basil...I will miss you, Bangkok Happy Bowl!

We looked around Clark's Market for a food place to sit down and saw this quaint restaurant so we decided to give it a try. Food was decent even though it's not the best and not the same version as what I am used to... My friend ordered Pad See Yew , it was ok but chicken meat was tough . We sat down for a long time and no one came so we had to get up and got the menu ourselves. A waitress finally came out after 15 mins and she was pretty attentive after that . It is a decent place for quick Thai food if you are in the area and crave for Thai food.

The pad Thai is tasty, though different from other versions I am used to. The service is speedy. I really like the sticky rice dessert.

So glad to have one of my favorite cuisine at Aspen!!! Dined here twice for lunch and was satisfied with their food. Their lunch is up until 3pm. Ordered their pad kee mao and should say delighted to eat delicious thai noodles. Tried their pad thai and was very sweet. The place is small and definitely needs calling them if you are a big group planning to dine here. They have outdoor seats too. Since there was construction going around the strip it is better to dine in. Any requests is taken kindly by the staff. Highly recommend dining here if you are around DT Aspen =)

100% recommend this place! Best Thai since the actual Thailand. We had the Pad Thai and Yellow Curry and we were super impressed. We will be back. :)

We had a great meal here, with a variety of dishes. The service was great, very warm and friendly. Loved the music even though it wasn't Thai. Would definitely recommend it and the prices were very good value especially for Aspen.

Good value for money - tasty curries. I don't know why this place has negative reviews- food is awesome here. We ordered a veg red curry noodle bowl and a veg panang curry and they were both delicious the waitress was very sweet and while the ambience is more like a sports bar than a proper restaurant, the price was hard to beat.

We had a jonesing for Thai and this restaurant was recommended. We were blown away! It tastes very authentic with great amounts of spice and flavor. This place is as good if not better than LA's Jitlada! Yes, they were understaffed with one hard working waitress. But she was super friendly. I do NOT understand all the hate for this amazing place. We went back for seconds. The other hate reviews were a year old, so....

Great food at a great price. My wife had the Thai Lanksa bowl which was absolutely great. It was a noodle dish but came out more like a soup, which she really liked. The veggies and chicken tasted fresh and cooked just right, and the noodles were great. I had the beef bowl, which was a bit like a soup as well. The beef was not very tender, a little rubbery - hence the 4 star rating - however, the flavor of the broth and noodles was very good. We will come back here for sure - especially at the lunch bowl prices. Great value for the price in Aspen.

I was sadly disappointed. We were so hungry for Thai and a relaxing lunch before we hit the road back to D-Town. Our server was pretty terrible. I hate to say that but it's just simply the truth. She rushed us from beginning to end. We were up late and a bit slow that day but who cares, it wasn't busy, I believe there was only 1 other table there when we came in. So we finally decided and placed our orders. I want soup and a noodle dish. She brought me the wrong soup and when I asked for the right kind she actually rolled her eyes at me and said the cook was going to be mad. Mad at what, you wrote the wrong thing down! I have never in my life had anything so rude at a restaurant happen to me. Not to mention it took forever to get our soup and she forgot my friends entirely. Our dishes all came out at random times, not together so that made it awkward. I hate eating before everyone gets their dishes but it was too long in between to wait, it would have been cold by the time everyone had their meal. This was a nightmare. The food wasn't that great either. I had pad see yu, it was completely lacking flavor and there was no heat/spice at all. They also threw in tons of broccoli stems, there wasn't 1 floret. My friends also agreed their food lacked flavor. And this wasn't cheap. It was about $70 for 4 of us for lunch. Insane! I might not have been such a big deal if we had good service and tasty food, but that was certainly not the case. I also should mention there is no bathroom in the restaurant. You had to ask for a key like you were in a gas station, and go outside into another store in the same complex, down stairs to a basement like area to the bathroom. What?!?

I feel bad leaving this review. A quaint restaurant off the beaten path, great to try some non traditional dining, and hopefully save your pocketbook. But honestly, Bangkok Happy Bowl only had to offer being off the beaten path. As we sat down, our waitress was extremely flustered, and spent a good 5-10 minutes helping other clients, taking bills, bringing out food, and being very clearly busy. As she finally made our way to our table, she asked us what we would like to order. But Miss, I'm sorry, Can we first please have two cups of water and some menus to look at? I'm actually impressed that she eventually remembered our edamame before I reminded her. Our fresh spring roll was disappointing, the salmon was nothing special, and you couldn't force me to eat the rice. I was happy with the mango salad, but overall it was very spicy and lacked enough mango bits. But the additional orange slices did add for a fresh perspective. When all was said and done, we ended up paying more than we had at Rustique and L'Hosteria, and I can easily get better Thai food back home. No Bathroom on site!

We've had 8-10 meals from Happy Bowl (a roughly even mix of in house, delivery and pick-up). I've never been blown away by the high quality of the food, but have also never been disappointed. We like noodle dishes and curry-they do both pretty well. Pad Thai is solid. Others have lamented a lack of fire-that's legit, but You can always kick it up a bit with some hot sauce. The manager does seem to be grumpy. I've been scolded for making a move towards my take out, before he makes sure I'm not taking someone else's food. This in spite of the fact that my name is on it. Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but being nice to customers can only be a positive. Bottom line -- decent Thai in a town that offers no competition. Prices are high for comparable food in other locales, but no worse than other restaurants in Aspen.

This was by far the best meal we had in Aspen, and some of the best Thai curry we'd had anywhere. Off the beaten path, which was nice after the assault of the "Aspen thing" all weekend. At the end of our trip we were tired of chic places with bad service and mediocre food. Bangkok Happy Bowl was (for the most part) highly rated on Yelp. The short walk from "downtown" Aspen was nice, and as much as being in a strip-mall detracts from the ambiance, it was nice to be in a place that was a bit more "normal" We started with the appetizer sampler and were thrilled with the various items. All were tasty and well-prepared. The only downside was that there was only 1 of everything (an oversight on our part) so we had to share. We both ended up getting curry: I got the yellow curry and my wife got the Panang. Both came out in a reasonable amount of time. The flavors of each were distinct, well spiced, and tasty! Each had a different assortment of vegetables that seemed fresh. I've seen some reviews about the service, and figure I'll give my $0.02: We were there the Monday night of Labor day weekend and could tell there was some sort of staffing issue going on. I gathered they do a good amount of delivery business but have a hard time getting & keeping good drivers. The guy behind the bar was working getting drivers for the week. Perhaps that didn't go well. The place has a sort of "family" feel to it, and while we were not witness to any of the blowouts others mentioned, we liked the cozy feel. Hopefully they work out staffing so folks can appreciate their meals like we did.

After my review of Chang in Glenwood, I had to come here. My friend and I went leaf peeping on Independence Pass and the here for dinner. We started with the edamame which was salted just right. Then had a Thai iced tea. I saw Marty the manager behind the bar and went to say hi to him and see how his summer was since I had been away. Upon returning my Jungle curry was at the table and although I thought I could handle the spice of not having coconut milk, I couldn't. The waitress quickly brought me some delicious, seasoned coconut milk to dilute the spice and it was perfect. My friend had the pad Thai which she and I both thought was one of the best we have had. As usual, Marty and the staff took great care of us and we left full. Also, we got there just in time as the rush began around 7:30.

What a surprise! Upon entering it was quaint and intimate with a small bar, which is where we sat. The bartender, Marty, was great! He was knowledgeable and helpful about both the menu and the town of Aspen. Also, a true test of a good bartender; when he became busy with other customers, he didn't neglect us. The papaya salad was fresh, crunchy and tasty. I ordered the shrimp as an add on, which made the salad more of a dinner. They also have nightly 2 for 1 drinks, along with reasonably priced meals. We'll be back!

Great little place in Aspen. Tried the Money Bag, Wonton Soup, and the Beef Salad - loved it all. Food came out fast with good service. If you're looking to eat some good food for a reasonable price, definitely try this place out.

I have now been to Happy Bowl five times now and have had nothing but very positive experiences. The food has been consistent: the noodles have been well done - tender and flavorful, the rice has been good - perfectly cooked, the sauces are well balanced - not oily, well spiced, and well portioned, and the service has been prompt, friendly, and responsive. The prices here are also extremely reasonable given the location in Aspen. Bangkok Happy Bowl compares favorably with Thai restaurants in Seattle, where I spent eleven years (there is practically a Thai restaurant on every block in some Seattle neighborhoods, so this is high praise.)

Pretty disappointed in this place all-around, but a "special" mention has to go out to this joint first off for making me more tense while dining there than I was before I entered. Seriously ... this place is like an episode of The Real Housewives or something. So let's get to that right away. It seems they were short-handed and the guy behind the bar (Marty, maybe?) was all wigged out about it. I walked in and he stated to the new delivery guys sitting at the bar, "Here we go!" Wow, what a welcome! As I pondered the menu, I could see and hear that this guy was frazzled but also probably over-playing the part. Then, something happened back in the kitchen, within easy earshot of the dining room, and one of the staff members was upset with this guy. What ensued was a shouting back-and-forth match, culminating in one of the women storming out of the place. That's where it should have ended, but "Marty" continued to talk (loudly) to the rest of the staff about it for the entire duration of my meal. On top of that, the guy was rude to people coming in to get to-go orders or placing orders. He always had a snide remark about the lack of tip people would leave if they placed a to-go order or were picking it up. Classy. I was there to eat, and I did so ... but if the quality of the food I had was representative of a typical meal there, I'd pass again. But maybe the drama in the kitchen had them focused elsewhere. I don't know. My tom yum soup was blandish, as was the jungle curry ... even though I ordered it hot. I ended up adding a lot of chili sauce to it. Bland food, high drama staff. Hmmm. Not really what I wanted.

I ordered from this place over the weekend and found the service to be atrocious. The man on the phone was beyond rude to me and for no reason whatsoever. I was nothing, but polite and can say that I have never been treated so poorly as I was by this business. On top of that, they forgot my dish and were anything, but apologetic. The food is below average and for such small portions, the prices are a flat out rip off. There are so many great restaurants in Aspen that I will absolutely, 100%, NEVER order from here again. I will also make sure to tell everyone I know how bad this place is, so they can avoid the inevitable disappointment. You should be called Bangkok Anything BUT Happy Bowl. You're terrible and this experience was definitely not forgotten.

Looking at these other reviews, it appears no one else has ever been to a Thai restaurant. Too much rice? Really? It's a fricken Asian restaurant, of course there will be rice. The other person complaining about the waitress being busy? Is that her fault she was doing her job? It's a Thai food delivery service in Aspen, and it was good. Get off your high horse.

We ordered a group takeout order from this place. My girlfriend ordered the food over the phone. The gentlemen that took her order either hates women or just hates life in general as he was rude. When ordering he asked how spicy we wanted one of the dishes as she was ordering for someone else she asked that person, without an ounce of patience the order taker said "we'll just make it" before we could provide an answer how spicy. We asked for soy sauce and the response was "We're a Thai restaurant, we don't carry soy sauce". Which makes no sense at all. If you serve fried rice you have soy sauce. Lastly the guy hung up before we could ask for the total which should have given us an idea something was wrong. When the food was delivered they had forgotten one of our dishes we ordered, and sadly it was a vegetarian one which of course the rest of us couldn't accommodate her. When we called the restaurant to bring it up they made no effort to remedy the situation and in fact the same dude was rude like before. Lastly, to add insult to injury, the Pad Thai was awful! The rest of the dishes were okay, not at all worth the money paid for them. SO eat there if you like be treated like crap and if you would like terrible Thai food.

I don't know why this place doesn't have a rating of 10 stars! I live in Aspen and everyone knows that this is a place to get consistently excellent food. My favorite dishes are the pumpkin lamb curry (Oh My GOD! SO good), and the Tom Kha soup. Everything is prepared fresh but also surprisingly fast. The Tom Kha soup is hot, sour, and rich - everything it should be. The lamb is tender and meaty, with not a lot of gristle. The curry is rich, the perfect amount of spicy, and served at the perfect temperature. And I love the addition of pumpkin! Makes it a little less predictable-Thai fare. Marty, the bartender and bar server, is friendly and fast. He got me a nice big water and a tea, and made sure to clear my dishes when I was done. He facilitates chatting at the bar, because he chats with all the customers. This makes a nice, friendly atmosphere. Last time I came in it was at lunch time and I was starving. I told him I wanted my food FAST, and it came really quickly. But not so quickly that the entree came before I was done with my appetizer (I hate it when that happens). I would not hesitate to go here on a date or any other time when I want to be sure that the food and service is good, like a business meeting. I love this restaurant and really encourage you to give it a try! By the way - they changed chefs last year - this one is a Thai woman who was working in their Denver restaurant before. She's very fast and her cooking is great. So that's why maybe in 2011 you may see reviews of long waits and cranky servers (because the food was taking so long) - that's all changed now. It's really a delight.

I've ordered here a couple of times. It's OK, but my main complaint is that all of their entrees are served over vast amounts of rice, and there is little protein and veggies. I honestly would suggest buying 3 entrees per person if you are craving protein and veggies. If you are a foodie or live in NY or SF you will definitely not be impressed with the food.

Dont waste your time!!! If there were a negative star option i would give this restaurant as low a score as possible. I absolutely refuse to go here. I got treated like garbage by the delivery driver and so i complained to the manager. And without hesitation, the manager proceeding to treat me like an idiot and talk to me with an air of presumption that I am supposed to be used to how their cash register works, continually interrupted me, and refuse to accept any responsibility for a lack of customer service on either staff members part. I do not support restaurants that operate with a sense of entitlement and an overwhelming disconnect from the position that you and I, the customer, are the sole provider of the money that their business model should be based on. In closing, dont waste your time or your hard earned money supporting a business that takes no responsibility for thier actions, denies any wrongdoing no matter how blatant, and insults it's clientele in the process. That is of course unless you enjoy being expected to pay to be treated insignificant.

no joy at Bangkok Happy Bowl. Street food in Bangkok is cooked in a more cleanly environment. I have never been more sick in my life from a couple egg rolls.

  • Debbie C.

The service was a little slow, as other reviewers have commented on, but the spring rolls were hot and fresh and worth the wait. We tried two different pad thai bowls and each had too much sauce. I would go back and recommend 1/2 the sauce. Overall, it was okay, and relatively inexpensive for Aspen standards.

I have to say that I was surprised by some of the negative reviews, but I think they've sorted out some of their difficulties (I notice that many of the reviews complaining about the service were written in 2012 when they had just opened). I had lunch there today, and thought the food was great. My pad thai was delicately flavored, with tender-but-not-mushy noodles, crisp sprouts, and perfectly cooked shrimp and tofu. My wife's curry bowl was also excellent. We both had soup: Tom Kha tofu for me, Tom Yum shrimp for my wife. Also tasty and well-flavored. Next time around I might ask for things to be a little spicier, but really, it was very good. Service was fine - a little homespun, but they took our order quickly and got the food out in a reasonable time. Place was full, too. I'm a recent transplant from San Francisco, and I would actually eat at this place if it was there. Pretty good Thai food for a small mountain town.

We were passing through Aspen after an epic Moab adventure and I was itching for some Drunken Noodles. We decided to try this place out and were very happy with the results! I had drunken noodles, Thai iced tea, and sticky rice with Thai egg custard. My friend had Tom Yum with shrimp and coconut ice cream. Everything was fantastic!!! The drunken noodles had the perfect amount of veges, noodles, chicken, and spices, and the portion was just large enough to be comfortably full. The Thai iced tea was very sweet and delicious, and the sticky rice was perfect. My friend loved her Tom Yum and the coconut ice cream was...well...coconut ice cream :). Next time we're passing through I'm definitely stopping by again!!
