I came here once with my friend after she had a doctors appointment, it was a real impromptu lunch, but it was a pretty cheap and satisfying lunch regardless! i dont know why people are giving it bad reviews.. i thought it was okay ! :]

Maru Lunch special is a great value and get a lot of food. Sushi could be better but it ain't bad either. I always ask for extra ginger and have a slice or two in between bites just to be on the safe side. Service is above average and I love the flat screen tvs.

The service was really slow - the server didn't seem to really care about us - and the sushi was pretty subpar. They don't have basic Philadelphia Rolls or Inari. And the avocado is a tad bit gross. Avoid.

I found this place on yelp because my husband likes to eat sushi. So, on his birthday, we went to this place. It's ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT Sushi Rolls, appetizers, and some handrolls and sashimi. The menu has a great selection just like the picture posted on yelp. Also, I told the waiter that it was my husband's birthday. They actually sang a happy birthday song and gave my husband a fried banana sundae for free!! If you can't do AYCE, they have lunch special on Saturdays, whcih is also a good deal!

i hate this place. went for dinner and waited forever for our waitress to take our order. we flagged down another waitress who took our order. she went to the kitchen and then came back and told us to order with our own waitress, wtf? when we got our bill we were overcharged $30, and the owner gave us a rude and unapologetic apology. food was not that great either, we will never be returning here!

This review is based on the All You Can Eat for dinner. After leaving this place, I felt full, but not even close to being satisfied. Went up and sat at the sushi bar and was greeted by angry chef. After reading another person's review on yelp my friend and I ask if sashimi is on the AYCE menu and the chef responds, "no, that would cost us too much". Little did we know that this was a foreshadow of things to come. We get our usual order that we get at our normal spot, sagami tei. 3 orders of yellowtail, white tuna, and salmon nigiri, along with some rolls to try. We get our order of nigiri and all we saw was rice, rice, and more rice with a thinly slice of fish. The ratio of rice to fish is like your fist with a post it on top. The fish was cut so thin I could see through it. Then another sushi chef came, so we thought that he might be a little more generous on the fish and less on the rice. With our hopes that were raised slightly was demolished by a bigger piece of rice on a smaller slice of fish. It felt like these sushi chefs were competing to see how much rice they can fit in their hands and how thin they can slice the fish so they can save the most money. Bite after bite you can only taste the overly vinegared, sticky rice. The pictures on the yelp site is no where close what we got served. If you love to eat rice at a sushi place then go here. If you love to get service by sushi chefs who stare you down while you eat then go here. If you love to eat flavorful fresh fish, and a wonderful experience, DO NOT GO HERE. Go at own risk.

AYCE AYCE AYCE sushi! Sometimes it just rings in my head. Though for me its really not worth it to go for the all you can eat, its always worth it going with your boyfriend who eats a lot (He introduced the place to me, lol) Been here a few times with friends, always opted for all you can eat. Always sat at the sushi bar, always ordered the same things. Their rolls are yummy, their fishes are fresh (though I don't think I'll ever be able to eat anything with tuna after watching The Cove), never had a problem with service. We try to come right after the rush so usually its the owner (the lady with short curly hairs) that serves us. The sushi chefs makes small conversation with us, they are pretty funny even though I always thought chefs are really serious. Always walk out of here with a great experience and a food coma. =)

oh my goodness, what can i say about Maru. It's bad. It's really bad. Insta-regret. I drove 40 minutes to westminster to take care of some errands...and i figured "oh i drove 40 minutes to westminster to take care of some errands, i mind as well check our Maru Sushi for lunch". It was $17.95 for lunch...oh how bad could it be? okay just to start off, they have some pretty good tea...um...and that's about it The fish quality is sub-par at best. I'm just being generous here. All the fish here was pre-cut. Honestly it wouldnt have been THAT big of a deal. hell i overlooked this minor issue in my Midori Sushi Review (Midori is infinitely better btw), but everything was sliced so so thin. When the first order arrived i already could tell i've made a really bad choice by coming here. The salmon nigiri was falling apart. I'm not talking about the rice either. Yeah, the fish itself was falling apart. I dont know how they managed that. Usually i'd hear that the rice falls apart, but never the fish. They messed up 50% of that nigiri! Oh and That's not the worst part... There's too much rice. There's TOO MUCH RICE. I usually like the rice; its a great compliment to the fish! . I have NO problem eating the rice when i go to AYCE sushi places. Shoot, i think its flat out rude to discretely hide the rice in teapots and napkins (yeah i know the tricks. i dont do them, but i know them). But this tested my limits. Its like a brick of rice with a sliver of fish on top. I'm exaggerating only because there's no other way of explaining it. The rolls were nothing to brag about either. Pretty mediocre stuff. So...what really stood out at Maru? ... nothing. Nothing stood out. This place got a very hesitant two star rating because...well the tea was good, service was okay, and i had a decent conversation with a stranger at the sushi bar (shout out to Law Enforcement Steve of Downtown Huntington beach, i hope things are going well) so my experience at Maru wasnt that bad, but my stomach and taste buds hates me now. Is it worth 17.95? hells no. If you're in Westminster, and you just HAVE to get some sushi, just go down a few blocks to Sagami-tei ( yelp.com/biz/sagami-tei-… ) it's not crazy good, but its definitely not Maru Sushi.

This place has HORRIBLE service and HORRIBLE food. Please save you 25 dollars and eat somewhere else. Anything that comes out that's supposed to be fried, crunchy and hot, comes out oily, soggy, and cold. Its just plain nasty. I'm surprised nobody has gotten sick eating here. Yelp this is not a 3.5 star. Very poor quality of food. Everything was once frozen not fresh.

The only reason why I come back to this place is because their Baby Lobster rolls are so bomb! Other than that there's really nothing special to this place. Their service is HORRIBLE - all caps for more effect because the last time I went there, there was 10 people eating total on a Sunday around lunch time. It took them forever and a day to do everything, you would think since there's only 2 other tables that are being served that the service would be excellent. WRONG these waitresses sucked! The rolls took forever to come out as well. They're lucky they got a tip to be honest, if the service is like this the next time I go there, then I won't go back. I need to find a sushi place with better customer service because even though the food is good, the service makes your experience too, and that aspect of this restaurant is terrible.

I used to go here with my ex all the time up until October. I was okay with paying 11.99 for mediocre all you can eat rolls. Most the time the rolls were more like rice balls than anything. The sushi chefs kept changing all the time. So I stopped going. I decided it was time to pay them a visit again today because I was in a sushi mood. To my surprise they raised the price of the all you can eat to $17.95 for lunch and $21.95 for dinner. I wasn't exactly sure if I wanted to pay that much for mediocre sushi, but my boyfriend and I decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised that they expanded their all you can eat menu to now include nigiri sushi and they added a few rolls also. They also cut back on the rice. Apparently, they lost a lot of customers because of the excessive amounts of rice they used to put in their rolls. The owners are the same, and the sushi chef was friendly and gave us samples of the different nigiri. I have to say definitely try the white tuna. The owner was very attentive to us. I'm definitely going back again now that they've won me over again. It was definitely a good change.

the food isn't bad, for AYCE that is. i probably would not come here for a regular priced meal. and um, i took away one star because i had the worst stomach ache right after finished eating. I WONDER WHY..

Our friends, Jennifer and James, invited us out to dinner at this great all-you-can-eat sushi place! When you think of all you can eat sushi, you usually think of Todai or Onami. Huge selection, but so-so sushi. Jen and I were a bit hesitant, but sushi lovers that we are we had to try Maru Sushi out. The restaurant is located in a strip mall in Westminster off of the 405 and Goldenwest, a bit of a haul for us coming all the way from Anaheim Hills. Note to the owners, we think Maru Sushi would do really well in Anaheim Hills. The catch here is that the all you can eat portion of the restaurant is confined to a small sushi bar and 3 small high top tables in the left portion of the restaurant. If you really want all you can eat, you may have to wait for seats. Also, the ambiance in this section is not the greatest, but it was a great place to eat with friends. Despite the limited seating, we weren't disappointed with the food. If I recall right, it was $16 per person (not including) drinks. There are some rules to dining here though. Each person can only order 3 items at one time and if there are any leftovers on the table you are charged full price for the remaining items. So only order what you are going to eat. They had a good variety of sushi to choose from and even include gyoza and tempura vegetables in the all you can eat menu. The rolls were typically 4 or 5 pieces and smaller than most sushi restaurants. We didn't find them to be overly rice-y, like some reviewers have said. We now have a standing dinner date on Friday nights with Jennifer and James at Maru Sushi. I can't wait for this Friday. Where's my sushi shirt now?

Oh noooooo! The bf and I came back today, and out of curiosity, asked where our favorite sushi chef has been as of late (the last couple of experiences have been....not so great), and the waitress told us he doesn't work there anymore :(. We thought we would give it a go anyways...and it could have been just coincidental, but it certainly wasn't the same. No longer is my white tuna nigiri lovingly adorned with red onions, and little green onions...it is now dropped on top of a little mound of rice that doesn't hold its shape long enough to make it from plate to mouth. No longer can we have nice conversation with the sushi chef behind the bar... The same preparation (or lack thereof) went into all the other rolls we ordered. I would say we might keep coming back here because its cheaper....but at the end of the night, 2 AYCE and 1 pepsi (for the bf) later, the bill came out to 50.00, w/o tip. It's just not the same...maybe I'm expecting too much for AYCE? If anyone knows a good joint, drop me a line... WE'LL MISS YOU SUH!!

so i noticed there were a lot of polaroids on the wall without any captions. i walked over to the waitress and asked, "how do you get your picture on the wall?" she replied, "with tape." confused, i responded, "oh no no no, i mean, how do i get my picture taken?" she said, "with a camera." hahahaha ridiculous, right? anywho, this place is average as far as ayce sushi goes. nothing is fantastic, but nothing is terrible. very reasonably priced. personally, my favorite thing was the gyoza. i went with three other friends and we got a pretty wide variety of rolls and sushi. again, nothing tasted bad, but nothing was memorable. if i didn't record this review, i probably would've never remembered i went here. for ayce sushi, i would recommend going to sushi time in tustin, california beach in newport beach or shogun in fullerton over this place.

For about $20, you can eat everything. I do. I've gained 10 lbs since discovering this place awhile ago. Be careful. You might get mud butt. It seems the price keeps going up too.

It's decent for roll lovers especially since there's all you can eat for 11.99 (lunch) and 15.99 (dinner) but i thought there was nothing special and the rolls were relatively small w/ mostly rice, i barely ordered more during my one hour session.. i went several times a couple years back and it was still just alright. the staff was very friendly and the chefs were cool, they always engaged in convos with us if we sat at the sushi bar but this wouldn't be the place i frequently visit.

for 17.99 at lunch all u can eat sushi????? u cant beat the price but the quality is there. I loved the baby lobster roll and the unagis were awesome too. I must have eaten at least 5 different plates and they make it right infront of ur eyes at the bar. loved the food service was alittle bit slow but all in all it was great place and i would recommend it to everyone

I went there with my boyfriend and two other friends last night for $21 All You Can Eat Dinner and would say it is a 3-star sushi place. It is more worthy to come here than go to Kula (the one in Diamond Jamboree Plaza in Irvine) where each plate w/ 2 Nigiri Sushi or 3~4 cuts of tiny rolls costs $2 if you are planning to get lots of sushi since their qualities are about the same. (By "quality", I actually mean the freshness of the row fish which is a okay.) However, I do love their dry seaweed a lot! It's very tasty and crispy; like you actually realized that there is seaweed in your mouth when you eat the rolls or gunkan sushi. By the way, the only roll I've tried last night was Las Vegas and it turned out really good! The outside skin of Las Vegas roll is deep fried and it has some row fishes in it and sweet and spicy sauce on top so I definitely recommend it. Furthermore, all of their staffs including the manager, waitress, and sushi chef are very friendly =] I think it's a restaurant that would make me want to go once in a while, but not very often.

Let me start by saying that I can't attest to this restaurant's regular sushi, as hubby and I ate only from their "all you can eat" sushi menu tonight for about $16 a pop. This includes rolls only, and I can pretty much sum up their all-you-can-eat rolls in 3 words... TOO MUCH RICE. Man, talk about being stingy on the fish! The little amount of fish/crab in the rolls tasted good, so I could only guess that their regular sushi must be very tasty. To be fair, there appeared to be a lot more fish in their "regular" rolls. The service is good, and the restaurant is nice looking and clean, but we probably won't be back again... at least not until they provide more fish in their all-you-can-eat rolls.

This star is based on the teaser of food I was able to taste. We came, we sat, got our drinks, put in our first round of ayce order. The food came in a timely manner, but one of the rolls was forgotten and the other roll we were told comes in four pieces....that was odd. We waited...our waiter refilled our drinks and that was it. He never came back. We grabbed another person who was waiting on everyone else in our area. He brought us another sheet to fill out. Round 2....we waited 50 minutes...one of us had 5 soda refills before we finally stopped our original waiter, told him how long we waited. The tables around us continued to get their rolls and appetizers. One of the table got 3 rolls...we finally got 2 more rolls...for 4 of us to eat. Mind you our original waiter disappeared from our table and we proceeded to get many many many drink refilled from other waiters. We were all still hungry and finally got fed up and asked for our bill. That came fast although the lady was surprised we asked for it....of course we wanted to leave. We were freaken hungry! 2 hours for ayce and leaving starving? Don't waste time or money. Stay away!

Joe's sushi (Buena Park) isn't open on mondays and I had a expensive craving for sushi. After reading the reviews for Marus I decided to give it a try for the all you can eat rolls. The service was pretty good, though the sushi chef could have used a bit more social skills (type of guy that seems like a jerk but you know thats just who they are). The rolls were skimpy on the meat (90% rice), even more so then what you would think for the price. There wasn't really anymore there so we had the place to ourselves. Was nice and quite. Not the best but not horrible.

I have eatten here a few times ordered off the menu. never did the all u can eat sushi. ive tried the all u can eat sushi yesterday for the first time and it was pretty good.. the portion was a good amount and it the price was reasonable.

i was impressed by the all-you-can-eat lunch menu that I went back a week later for a repeat! (it takes us about 20-30 min to drive there.) The seafood is fresh and great quality, they don't over pack rice in their rolls, the chef (John) was helpful in choosing the best rolls, their variety was sufficient, the sashimi was impressive, the price fantastic (I felt like I was ripping them off!), and the service excellent (we sat at the bar both times).

$16.99 is NOT out of your mind for all you can eat Sushi rolls. Location is next door to Golden West College in a quiet empty strip mall & business center. There is ample parking. Came here twice and still trying to recuperate. Sit at the bar if you get a chance, because the chef will throw in a bunch of free tempura and rolls of his own creation for fun. You start off with some excellent miso soup and then on to the rolls. Our party of three made the mistake of over ordering and almost dying of over eating the first time, so start light and keep track of what you ordered. The second time, the chef kept giving us tempura that we were overstuffed yet again. Both times were quiet worth it. There are too many rolls to order to try in one sitting and you can also order special hand rolls and that sort. My recommendations are: Crunchy Roll (the absolute best), Spider Roll, & the all to familiar Spicy CA roll. It is usually quiet on most nights. Music I would have to say was super awesome. Old and recent hit songs songs that are all instrumental (I hope they didn't change the CD). Staff is cool, but the language barrier is hard sometimes. Get onto the wall of fame and ask the cashier when you leave to take a Polaroid of you to put on the wall. Great place, great value, tell all your friends.

I'm giving this place 5 stars for the VALUE that can't be beat. Where else can you get All You Can Eat sushi for $20 (incl. tax & tip)?? Probably not the best sushi you can find in OC, but still delicious! And I'm not a sushi noob either. Stay away from the Salmon Roll and Scallop Roll though - too much rice and little meat. Definitely try the Spider, Amigo, Vegas, and Tataki Rolls - fancy and sooo goood. I sat at the bar and the chefs were very friendly, one even gave us a free beer and shot of sake. In fact, when you first sit down they scream "HELLOOOO" to you. *Note - all you can eat selection is rolls only, no sashimi. I'm a roll lover!

I ordered the 3 item lunch special. The tuna rolls and salmon rolls were supposed to be 8 pieces each. When the dish came out, there were only 6 pieces each. I called the waitress over and told her I was shortchanged on the food, and she didn't believe me so she went over to grab the menu to have a look. Then she came back and said no, they normally cut each piece thinner so that there are 8 pieces and that my 6 pieces were actually thicker!!! What gall! I told her that is ridiculous, because any thinner and each piece wouldn't even be able to be picked up with the chopsticks! It's not like this is my first time eating sushi. The pieces were so meager to begin with, now I'm short 4 pieces! So she took the plate back, and 10 minutes later a guy walks out with the missing 4 pieces (and surprise, they didn't decide to thin down each piece so that I can count 8 of them, which is why I'm giving them 2 stars instead of 1). I will never eat at another Maru Sushi again. This restaurant plain cheats customers, has lousy service, and poorly prepares the food. The sushi itself was horribly prepared (not uniform and consistent by any measure, the fish portions ranged from barely visible to too much) and each roll was of varying thickness and size. My friend who ordered the A combo got such poorly prepared California rolls they looked like a 6 year old had cut and stuffed them! GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! How can a restaurant have the same lunch combo menu for years and come out with 6 pieces when the menu clearly states 8! And they did that for both the tuna and salmon rolls I ordered! So I was short a total of 4 pieces!

I've been to Maru Sushi before. The food is decent for what it costs, thus I give it two stars. However, this time was not the same as before--I went with a friend of mine for dinner and ended up leaving with empty stomachs. When we first walked in, there were two hostess/waitress standing at the check-in podium. One was on the phone and the other was fiddling with receipts and papers. It took about two minutes or so before they acknowledged us standing there. The hostess didn't even greet us or anything, she just looked at us until we said something. We asked for the sushi bar and they said that it was closed, even though there were clearly people sitting there with three seats open and two sushi chefs. The waitress said something about the people there were going to move and they were closing the sushi bar so she seated us at a table instead. Ok, fine. We sat at a table next to some obnoxious high school kids and waited about 5 to 10 minutes. No menus. No waitress. No one even walked by. So we decided, you know what, it's going to take forever to get food and this isn't worth our time or money. When we got up and left, no one even said anything. Worst service ever. Never again.

I used to go here when they had their older prices and it seems the prices aren't the only thing they changed, the rolls are better too. There isn't too much rice and there is a large selection. The rolls are pretty varied and tasty. Sushi is also available and the cuts were okay. Sorry I didn't do this review sooner, I can't remember which rolls I loved from the list. I do remember that the Jamming Roll is a must have if you like it a little spicy. And there was another one with salmon and spicy that was good... Not so great was something with CA roll and baked scallops on top. I guess that means I'll have to go again to make a better list :) it's not usually too busy so you don't have to deal with a wait or anything like that. service is pretty good and attentive.

EDITED 5.1.08 I told yall I would come back to edit once I try their ALL-U-CAN-EAT SUSHI. My man & I were excited for all u can eat sushi...we were presented with a menu of what we could pick from..it was great..BUT we were trying to be MODEST & not look like pigs. We ordered maybe 6 or 7 diff kinds and was still hungry. They were really busy and we weren't sure if we were allowed to order more again so we didn't. :( It's not as pretty or perfect as the NON-buffet sushi..it's seems smaller, and more rice in it. ------------------ Okay, please tell me WHY this place is so bare and empty when it's a really good place?!?!?!? Seriously, forget Kabuki and all of those other commercialized sushi places...everyone, come to MARU SUSHI! My man & I stopped here last night at around 9:30, and got out of there by 9:50 only b/c they were closing and we just felt a tad rushed. We sat at the sushi bar and had a few rows..which all were VERY yummy. This was the quickest sushi I have ever had. I guess u can call it japanese fast food forreal. We will DEFINITELY will be coming back VERY often. Haven;t tried the all u can eat yet, but when I do I will come back for an update. :)

not too great but decent enough if you're craving sushi. my brother and sister liked it though. the only good rolls were the baked salmon and baby lobster roll. everything else was just okay.

I came to Maru for dinner during December with my mom and cousin after hearing from the cousin how decently priced this establishment is and how much you are getting for that price. First stepping in I was already approving of the place only to be led to a small enclave after annoucing to the greet that we were there for the "all you can eat." Even though we were stuck in the corner, and the waiters had to drag a table from the back to seat us I was pleasantly pleased with the authenticity feel of the place. We started out pretty greedily, ordering bunch of starters and 6 rolls. Into half of the rolls I was beginning to feel it, but we figured out a system to reduce the amount of rice we were consuming. I do agree with the fact that they pile on the rice in the rolls but it's understandable for how much we're paying and how much we're eating. I came back for lunch today with a friend but was kinda sad since their lunch menu is a little on the short side and doesn't have a couple of rolls that I loved in the dinner menu. Overall it's pretty good and decently priced for "all you can eat" my friend and i calculated out how much we're eating in terms of regular priced and it seems like we ate enough for twice the price we paid for so that's a good thing. I'll be coming back for those unsatiable sushi cravings that can only be please by an "all you can eat" event.

ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI! they even have deep fried special rolls. very clean, good service, and a large menu. i will come here again!

  • Alexis S.

they pack their rolls with tons of rice, and many of the 'specialty' rolls are packed with mayo. i always feel like a thief when i eat here because the staff always walk by your table and eye you. it's such an uncomfortable feeling. if you're going to do AYCE, then EVERY one in your party has to do AYCE. they do not allow part of the group to do regular dining and part to do AYCE. it's one way or the other...

  • Joyce F.

went to this place after a couple years break and there was a noticeable change. didn't recognize the sushi chefs nor the servers. order the apps which came fast enough. ordered wayyyy too much sushi but ate all of it. the rice couldn't stay together on most i had which isn't how it should be. the lobster roll wasn't the same either, it was smaller and wasn't tasty. the sauce they put on everything was gross. won't be back anytime soon.

I come here for ayce once in a while. This place has its ups and downs. The service is kind of slow and sometimes they mess up on what you ordered if it gets crowded. Sometimes the fish is fresh, other times it's just okay. Overall you're getting decent sushi for ayce. Can't complain about that.

My fiance and I go to Maru at least 2x a month. AYCE sushi for around $20? What a deal. Even better? It's always very good! The chefs are friendly. The fish is fresh. Never had a bad experiance after at least 20 visits. Lobster roll is my favorite! Give it a shot!

Alright guys, im going to be straight up honest and im doing this because i love you guys. This sushi place is pretty good however, if you are looking for quality, i dont think this is the right choice for you. I love sushi regardless and i am not too big on quality and on rawness or anything. The AYCE price is 22.95 and it may sound alot but the rolls that you guys are going to be eating is going to cost more than that and its actually worth it then ordering 1 by 1. Also, its more fun with a group of friends so you guys can try other diff rolls and appetizers and drinks also. best rolls to get: lobster roll, (hot), dynamite roll (hot), and i love the chicken terryaki and poppers. The clams are not that bad either. Like I said, its a typical sushi place but if you are down for sushi and hungry as hell, come here! dont go out and waste money on buying individual sushi. The interior is decent, tvs and a sushi bar. Overall Grade: C+ MY GIRLFRIEND LOVES THIS PLACE. HAPPY SUSHI :)

This place has horrible customer service. I went for the all you can eat option and here is what happened: 1. each time I order, it would take roughly about 20-30 min for my food to come out. 2. The waiters don't come to you automatically and they purposely ignore you as they walk by. 3. Simply raising your hand won't get their attention; you have to yell out "HEY!" for them to even look at you. 4. When the waiters come by they don't look at you or say anything back to you when taking the order. Once you slow your talking when giving your order they quickly walk away without saying "Is that all for you?" 5. The old man that works there kept looking at every table as if to say, "Quit eating and get out." I thought maybe it was just our table that was experiencing all this until the table next to us turned towards us and asked "How long did you have to wait for your dish to come out?" Hahahaha!!! My friends and I bursted out laughing since now we knew we weren't the only ones. Never again will I come here!

I'm not a sushi eater. Time after time, I give it a try and I just can't do it. My wife however is a fan and she really liked this place. We went for the all-you-can-eat lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It was not too busy and we were served quickly. For a non-sushi eater like myself, there are a few options to eat (although everyone at the table has to pay for the all you can eat price). I had Teriyaki chicken, Pop chicken and mixed tempura. I left fully satisfied and others in our party all enjoyed their sushi. You really get your moneys worth if you order the normally higher priced rolls.

the quality recently been declining or if it just the group of people i go with, but apparently we arent allowed to sit at a sushi bar with a group of 4 anymore? and now when we order the nigiri its packed in with a load of rice and a sliver of fish. To top it off during our last visit the waiter who worked with our table took our paper went to her booth marked some stuff and than gave it to the sushi chef. When we got our orders we were missing a couple of stuff and got multiple of the same thing. Was really disappointing, will probably taking my friends to sagami tei now instead as steve seem to enjoy having his customers there.

this used to be one of my all time favorite sushi places. AYCE is 18 bucks for lunch and 22 for dinner, which is a great price. the rolls used to be really well done, i remember the first time i went, my coworker and i ordered a bunch of green mussels and they were cooked perfectly, and the rolls were delicious. i mentioned it to my friends and we started going almost once a month, even twice a month if we were craving sushi. i think they started to recognize us because my friends and i can certainly put away roll after roll of sushi. over time, the quality just started going down, and also the serving size. one of my favorite rolls was the baby lobster roll, which was to die for. the last time i went, they made the roll almost half sized and the lobster was cooked differently. they also added two new sauces on top of the roll, which actually made it really nasty. my friend said it was a mayo sauce, i really dont know what it was. all i know is that i didnt like it. the green mussels also became much smaller, i dont know if they started purchasing smaller mussels or if they buy them from a new location, but the mussels themselves are smaller. im starting to think that they were beginning to lose profit with the price, so instead of raising the price, they made servings smaller. logical, but i cant really say for sure. some of the rolls are still really good, i just dont know if i'd personally wanna make the drive there anymore.

Just moved across the street and wanted to try it. Everyone was very friendly and the sushi was good! Cant wait to go back again! Saw some of the reviews about this place being slow, but we were seated right away and the all you can eat sushi kept coming. We came around what would be dinner rush, 6:30, but did not have any problems!

I went to Maru Sushi on 12/31/2010, because a friend recommended this restarunt. I had the lunch special "A", great deal, okay tasting. Didn't really meet my expectation for the best tasting sushi, but a very reasonable price for a lunch special. My friends that went with me, had the all you can eat for lunch. They mentioned the same about the taste, that it was all right, not all that great and wouldn't go back for all you can eat. The waitress, was very nice. Fast and friendly, there was only two tables though.

I don't understand why this place has such a low overall rating. You can't come to an AYCE sushi joint expecting to taste top notch, 5-star, Michelin-awarded quality sushi. (If you want expensive, fine dining tier, exquisitely elite caught-from-the-coast-of-Japan-and-flown-over-the-same-day-fresh-fish, then this is definitely not the place for you. There is a plethora of upscale sushi places of the like for you to try in Los Angeles.) DUH. It's an obvious truth, and if you don't realize this, you are a complete FOOL. As long as the restaurant is sanitary, the fish is fresh, there is a decent selection of rolls, and the food tastes pretty yummy, you really shouldn't have anything to bitch and whine about. Seriously. Anyway, my boyfriend and I needed our fill of fish for the week, so we came here for the first time ever. It was a Friday night, and the place was surprisingly pretty empty. At least there wasn't a wait, right? The location is not ideal, as it is in a pretty ghetto looking and deserted plaza. But hey, there was plenty of parking, so I can't complain. (Parking is always a plus in my book :D) The exterior is nothing to special and looks pretty shabby, but the inside was very spacious, clean, and just nice--nothing spectacular, but nice. Staff was friendly and attentive. The sushi tasted good and satisfied my craving; nothing extraordinary, but it was decent considering we ate around $200 worth between the two of us. So, we definitely got our money's worth at $22 per person. haha! Nigiri Sushi - Sake, yellow tail, albacore, white tuna: all were decent in terms of freshness. I've had better salmon at other AYCE places, but the white tuna here was pretty darn good. Rolls - Baby Lobster Roll: DELICIOUS! I liked that they didn't pack on the rice on their rolls, so you don't get sick of eating it halfway through. - Hot Kiss: Spicy crabmeat with shrimp tempura inside, topped with salmon. I liked this roll as much as the Baby Lobster. - Spicy Crunch: Your typical crunchy roll. Not spicy at all, but it was good. - Las Vegas: A deep fried roll...I just thought they used too much rice. I think that's all (in terms of rolls) that we ordered. Will most likely come back here if I'm in the mood for AYCE and don't feel like driving all the way to Lake Forest or Laguna! :P

The second time around, I came with another group of friends, and we went for all you can eat. It still tasted pretty alright, nothing really special (not that I'm a sushi connoisseur). Service this time around was comparatively quicker (probably 10-20 min per "round" as opposed to last time's 30-40 min). This may be because it was around lunch time as opposed to dinner, though.

Very dissapointed, I've had better rolls from 7/11. The sushi was cut paper thin, I could literally see through the salmon that was on top of my Philadelphia Roll! We recieved our appetizers after the main course. There were a total of 6 people when we went for lunch and our party was 4 of the 6 and yet our waters remained empty throughout the meal. Needless to say I will never go back again.

i did not like this AYCE sushi place at all! the sushi didn't taste fresh. the hand rolls they offer was so plain (seaweed, rice, sushi). the rice they use tasted like it was old. but if i had to say one good thing, is that it was pretty cheap but not worth it.

AYCE (All You Can Eat) spots are always a must for new and veteran foodies alike. In the case of Maru, with competitive prices ranging from $17.95 for Lunch (which is when I came here) ad $21.95 (Dinner), it's always no wonder a fair amount of people always come here to get their fill of the Pescatarian Kingdom. One fortunate day, I came here with my good friend and Co-Coordinator Gilbert to discuss over lunch details about the previous event I worked on (Burning In The 9 floor 9). From his personal suggestion and dragging along his little brother and his Yu-Gi-Oh fanatical friend, we figured to have them along for the ride while we get our fill. As we were seated there were two sushi chefs, who greeted us, instead of being assigned a spot within the AYCE area (yes there's a designated limited area of the option) it is only utilize during dinner time. I looked across the menu and for nigiri (2 pieces per any kind of fish), you can get it at $2.85 individually or cut rolls (8 pieces per any order), for about $6.95 ranging up to $12.95. I wasn't in the mood of too many rolls, so unlike my companions this is what I ordered: Drinks -Water Nigiri -4 orders of Yellowtail -2 orders of Salmon -2 orders of Red Snapper -6 orders of White Tuna Hand Rolls -2 orders of Spicy Tuna Hand Roll (w/extra spicy mayo) All the fish were reasonably fresh (nothing that tasted like it had been sitting in the freezer or fridge for ages). Some of my companions complained about the tuna, except the hand rolls probably disguised the lack of quality in my taste buds. My all time favorite of course was the White Tuna, which made me a happy camper. However my only qualm with the spot was to ask if we can get a hand roll made out of one of the fish options they provided on the AYCE menu (my choice was the white tuna). One of the sushi chefs, outrageously told his partner in Korean that I should stick to the menu, being a little bit flustered at my odd request. Therefore, it dropped my overall value of a 5 down to a 4. Maybe he had a bad day? Or perhaps, he misunderstood where I was coming from? Nevertheless, you shouldn't do that to customers especially if they haven't finished their meals, let alone tip you. I believe I paid overall with tax and tip about $26.00 (about the price of the value at dinner). Had it not been for the kindness of the other friendly sushi chef, I probably wouldn't have tipped at all let alone consider to return to this place. So I'll give it another shot and hopefully, just hopefully it'll be better the second time around.

The Good: - Pretty cheap all you can eat menu - Good Service The Bad: - Not all the rolls or nigiri is offered on the AYCE - Menu for dinner doesn't change (usually, other places offer a more extensive menu for dinner)

Great deal with the all you can eat.. But who wants all you can eat if it's not that good? Ok, it's not all that bad.. Anything with sauces n stuff like that obviously won't taste that bad.. but as for the sushi (fish with rice only) was horrible.. The texture was bad, the appearance, and the taste were bad. Me and my gf found ourselves eating anything around us to cover up the taste.. The rolls were ok but nothing more. As everything else in life goes, you get what you pay for. If your on a budget and have a bottomless pit of a stomach it's right for you. But if your eating here to enjoy the flavor, texture, and amazingness of sushi go elsewhere most definitely.

Went to this place years ago when it was Ooiso, something like that. It was more $$ than most other places at that time, but was very good. Flash forward to yesterday; me and the lady friend are cruising down PCH on the way back to OC from the LBC; You hungry? Yep. Me too. Sushi? Oh that sounds great. Ever been to Mahe? Nope, lets go there. It's usually very crowded, but its 6:30 on a hot beachy type day, just might luck out, I'll call and see. Hello, any seats at the sushi bar right now? No? Bye. I remembered this place and headed up Warner for a re-do. We opted out of the AYCE, not normally my preference as I cant pack it away like back in the day. We ended up eating a total 8 nigiri items, all very fresh, 2 salmon skin hr's, 2 miso soup's, 1 large and 1 small sake. Miso soup was standard, several tofu squares, broth a little too watery, but still good. We enjoyed the salmon skin handrolls, even though as Jyenny B. yelped, no burdock root, thus cutting down on the crunch factor. Ours did have some skin within, and I loved the avocado addition, even though not a traditional ingredient. Service was good, and fun. as our Sushi Chef, "Jim" was a crack up. He insisted that the vast majority of Sushi Chefs are now Korean (he as well). Is that true? Makes no difference to us as long as the pieces are.....well...., long! His were! Nice sized pieces indeed. I knocked off 1 star for lukewarm sake, even after I sent the 1st large one back for a re-zap. And it took like 10 minutes for it to come out the 1st time. ???? The miso took even longer. ??? WTF?? But we had a great time, food was good, and all that for $48 + tip, making for a great value.

I tried Maru on the advice of my friend Aaron D combined with logistics: I was in town, driving from LAX to Costa Mesa, and passing right about dinner time. I did not come close to Aaron's intake of 12 hand rolls. I had the albacore, dynamite, spicy tail roll and one other I don't recall now. Plus 4 individual nigiri orders, 2 yellowtail and 2 saba. It was way, way too much food for one person and I didn't quite make it through it all. The most dangerous thing about Maru Sushi as that you fill out a card in advance with your menu choices so you are at great risk of ordering too much. (The card also says there's a maximum of 2 rolls per person on the AYCE, though it's clear from the reviews they don't enforce that.) So I advise you to take it slow... you can always ask for more. I liked the albacore for good fishy flavor and the dynamite roll for complexity including a hit of sriracha sauce on the top of each piece. Wish I'd had room for the baby lobster... from inspecting the menu that's what the "lobster popcorn" is technically named. Beyond this, the details blur. I honestly think 2 rolls per person is all a human SHOULD eat. The inari was less good. Saba was regular, the yellowtail oddly lean and pink (maybe not in fact yellowtail?) and the rice too dry and it fell apart in the wasabi sauce. 2 stars for that. But 4 stars for the rolls, the value and the friendly people... I think it is likely to increase quality compared to an assembly line like Todai when you sit at the sushi bar and the chef is making food in front of you and sees you are enjoying it. And then I have to bump it up a bit to balance some of the haters below.

So, I finally made the leap and went from just going to buffet with sushi to a real sushi bar. It was a great decision. I want to thank Hazel Q. for suggesting it and giving it such a thorough review. My wife and I went for a late lunch. If you go I would suggest getting there by 1-1:30 as they close at like 2:30 for the afternoon and then re-open for dinner. We used the AYCE menu. To be honest to me it looked almost identical to the À la carte menu. So for about $18 each we had 7 cut sushi rolls and one hand roll. Our Sushi chef was John and he was a delight. He was both helpful and friendly. And it was very educational to watch him roll as I have been learning to roll sushi. Previously I have not had a great deal of experience with sushi. Mostly places like Todai, Hakkaido, and on the east coast Ichiban. And in comparison to my previous experiences they were quite good. Having gone to Maru I doubt we will travel back to Hakkaido or Todai ever again. Now when I speak of inexperience with sushi - I have eaten quite a lot of sushi but only at sub-par places. And I have eaten tons of cooked fish. I love seafood. The fish at Maru was fresh and smelled and tasted it. The spicy tuna handroll had more spicy tuna in it than I have ever seen in one pile. It was delicious. After having it and then having the cut spicy tuna roll I realized that I prefer the convenience and ease of a cut roll if the price is the same. I would love to have some people message me to tell me why they like hand rolls so I understand the positives. Maybe its the excessive amount of spicy tuna that comes in a hand roll. The sushi chef recommended the las vegas roll and one that I didn't understand the name of. The moral to the story was that both were amazing. The baby lobster roll was my wife's favorite. The lobster in it was quite tasty and it had a fantastic sauce on top. We also had the spicy tuna tempura roll as well which was fantastic. My favorite by far was the dynamite roll. It was crispy and spicy and sweet all at the same time. I am person who loves complexity in one item and it had a lot going on and it did it all well. The hot tea was also quite good which is a big issue if your eating Asian food of any kind. The iced tea was pretty average and I probably will have something different cold next time I am there. Even though we were eating AYCE they told us that we could sit anywhere. I chose to sit at the sushi bar so that I could watch the chef roll and cut. I would recommend this place with no reservation. I have no negative to report only positives. I will be going again though - so I will definitely either edit this review or give you an update review. Goodbye to my Todai and Hakkaido days - hello Maru. *Edit - Just wanted to mention that the dynamite Roll was the best piece of Sushi I have ever eaten - lifetime. **Second Edit On 2/17/09 I went again for dinner and had the same Sushi Chef, John. He was fantastic. I devoured 12 special hand cut rolls and two servings of sashimi. I have posted photos of the special hand roll menu.

I don't know about some people but I personally like eating at this place. I only go here once every half a year but everytime I go, it is pretty dam good for a good low price of 18$ ish for lunch. I love the Las Vegas roll, the baby lobster, & so many more. You just gotta try a littlle of everything there. I like it :]

My cousin was mad craving sushi and this place happened to be one of the only sushi places close by that was open at noon on a Sunday so +1 for that. We were so excited for some sushi and some family bonding time. When we walked in, first thing I noticed was that no one was around to greet us or show us to a table. I felt rude but after waiting for some time, we just ended up seating ourselves. Then the waitress finally came with our menus and asked us if we wanted AYCE. We told her no. She seemed really unhappy (like she didn't want to work there or something) and I didn't see her smile once. It kind of killed the excitement of us trying out a local sushi place for the first time ever. The menu was mostly filled with sushi with cream cheese, so if you like seafood + cream cheese, this is the place for you. I just know some people aren't into that, but it's not really a problem for me. We ordered 2 crunchy philly rolls, one tiger roll, and one snow white roll. All were delicious by the way. Then when we asked the waitress for the bill, she charged us for all you can eat so we nicely told her that there was some misunderstanding and that we weren't eating AYCE. She rolled her eyes at us and hurried off to fix the bill. That definitely killed the experience for me. It's such a shame when the food is so good and you would totally come back another time for more but the service is what's holding you back. Maybe if we had another waitress, it would've been a different story. Good food though! And most of the rolls were between $9-12 so the prices are pretty moderate for sushi.

Maru Sushi has changed their AYCE menu. And, now, I truly am a fan. Guys, I know I sound like a crazy person. I mean, this place has a three-star average right now. But listen, the new menu is the tits! I swear. Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye. The new all-you-can-eat menu is slightly pricier. It's about $22 for dinner and $18 for lunch. And, hot damn, they know how to do it! Of course you can still order teriyaki, tempura, miso, edamame and all sorts of other things from the kitchen. That's the same. The rolls are much better now. Less rice, and more fish. And more options. The roll champion: Albacore Roll (tied with the Lobster Popcorn Roll) The roll loser: The crispy tail. Some deep friend nonsense. (Sorry, crispy tail, you can't win 'em all!) The biggest change is that you can now order nigiri with the AYCE. What's more...the fish is all fresh and tasty. I can tell you don't believe me. You're telling the person sitting next to you in the cafe right now that you're reading about some crazy lady on the 'net and how she thinks she found good sushi. Well, it's not nice to talk about people behind their backs. And it's damn good sushi....so there! ....PS, please go try it and agree with me, so I don't feel like a crazy person.

My brother, friend PT and I were jonesing for some sushi and we wanted it in a flurry of all-you-can-eat goodness. I've been to AYCE sushi at Joe's (a couple blocks down from this place) and Chomp's in Fullerton - not to mention all the revolving sushi bars I've visited in my lifetime. But I've always handicapped myself by getting too full too quickly. Not so at Maru Sushi! I think I ate my money's worth ($21.95 for dinner AYCE.) We walked in and there were few patrons and no one at the sushi bar so we plopped ourselves down. The menu is readily available at the sushi bar, utilizing the "In" and "Out" designations that I liked so much at Yuki's. With pencil in hand and the AYCE card, I began marking off what I wanted. You are limited to 2 rolls per "order" but it will definitely keep you at pace. There are non-sushi items available on the AYCE menu as well, such as popcorn chicken, gyoza and miso soup. There are three different types of sushi you can get: sushi, special rolls, and hand rolls. I mixed it up and ended ordering the following over the course of the evening: Spicy Tuna Roll (i'm addicted to spicy tuna) Avocado/Tuna on top of a California roll Spicy tuna sushi (2 pcs of spicy tuna/rice) Salmon sushi (2 pcs on rice) Shrimp tempura hand roll (crispy!) Miso Soup (a nice way to end my meal) With a green tea by my side (my go-to choice for sushi meals), I was very happy! It's also impressive knowing I usually get full after eating only 2 rolls. I didn't have room for dessert this time around, but the service was attentive, the chefs were great and we even had a view of the Angels game on the television directly above the sushi bar. I'll find myself coming back here when I need AYCE sushi again :)

I went here yesterday and we sat at the bar. The rolls were very decently priced compared to what I am used to and the fish was fresh. My soda, however, was very flat. The chef (who was the owner) was very attentive to us and even gave us a sample of some of his own creations to try. We had this awesome roll that had strawberries and mango and salmon & crab in it (topped off with a special sauce that was very sweet tasting), and I told him he should name it the "pacific sunrise" roll because we were joking about how it tasted like breakfast sushi, but he seemed to prefer the name "hawaiian special" roll. Either way, I would go back here if I were in the area!

I had the all you can eat thingy about two months back... and now I'm finally Yelpin' it for y'all. Came in at lunch with my friend. Together we took down at least 6 rolls, 10 pieces of nigiri, plate of tempura, and a plate of teriyaki chicken. Yes, I take pride in eating my money's worth at all you can eat joints... Walking was a bit difficult after, but eventually, I was able to wedge myself back into the car, and drive on home to take me a food nap.

This is the only AYCE sushi place I have been to so all I have to compare them to is regular restaurants or fast food sushi places. I have always enjoyed the rolls that we have ordered. They have always seemed fresh. Their selection is pretty much the usual rolls that you would find anywhere. There a few things you can get with the AYCE like miso soup and some teriyaki chicken but you are mostly going here for the sushi. The price is about $22 a person and you have a little over an hour to finish what you order. We were told that whatever is not finished, you get charged for. Of course this has never been a problem for me. Each person can order two rolls at a time from their list and you can do this as many times as you like. They say you have only an hour to eat everything but I have never had anyone standing over my table with a stop watch to make sure. It is just a respectable rule that they would like you to follow. Service can be a little slow at times considering you are supposed to not stay there very long, but I have never seen this as a real problem. Some of their fish portions seem a little small but I guess you would expect that with fast food sushi. Again, this is the only one I have been to. My favorite rolls there would have to be the crunchy, philadelphia, scallop, lobster and vegas. I don't go there as often as I would like but if you have the cash for an ayce place, I recommend them.

My buddy and I are always looking for new places with great deals for good food, and Maru is an old favorite of ours. It's pretty normal pricing for most sushi restaurants, but what sets this place apart from most is the awesome AYCE special. You can order up to 2 things at a time, which includes a large selection of their rolls, sushi slices, and other great sides. Lunch AYCE $17.95 Dinner AYCE $21.95 The first thing you notice here is the very warm and inviting setting they have laid out. Nice decorations and everything is kept very clean. The staff is super nice and all welcome you as you enter. The waitress is very pleasant and is always attending to your needs. My buddy and I usually sit at the sushi bar to cut down on time and work for the waiter or waitress, and that seems to be the best way to experience Maru. The food is very good. I would even go to say that it's my favorite sushi bar I know as of now, and who can beat that AYCE price. I usually stick with something spicy at Maru. My favorites are the Hot Kiss or the Las Vegas rolls, and for some reason I always love to get the little egg sushi. It's a little pricey for a meal but when you're getting sushi, you kind of expect that. Great place to go when you're really hungry, but I wouldn't plan on taking a date here. Not really the best way to impress someone by stuffing your face.

Bff Rachel, thank you for taking me here. Maru is a cute little hole in the wall. A hidden gem for sure! ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI for under $20? Sold The owner is super sweet and she loves my friend's family so she lets us break the all you can eat rules. Dynamite roll & Lobster roll are the best. My best friend & I always get food comas after a Maru Sushi visit. We hold our tummies in pain but we wish we could eat more! The owner is the only waiter and she's very, very attentive. After your first visit to Maru, you'll come back numerous times. I promise!

Review Based on AYCE I hit this sushi joint quite a bit now. If I am getting AYCE it is the only place I will go to in OC. Recently headed over with my mom, who was in town and her and her friend loved it as well. I come in here at least once a month with a few guys from work and we all are in agreement that there is not a better deal in OC. The price for the quality is unmatched. I have to recomend the Las Vegas roll. It has to be one of the absolute best rolls that I have ever had anywhere. AYCE also includes: Popcorn Chicken, Mixed Tempura, Miso Soup, Chicken Teriyaki, and Edamame which, for me, is a huge selling point. This place has been the best for easing my wife into Japanese food. At first she enjoyed a box lunch and would try some sushi/sashimi here and there but now she is a full fledged sushi addict. In addition to all the fabulous rolls they serve Maru also offers a wide range of Sashimi on the AYCE menu as well as a few hand rolls. There are quite a few TVs at this location and sporting events are constantly on as well as sports news. The last thing I will add is that the service (not the sushi chefs but the waiters/waitresses) for the last few years were not up to par but recently the service has been much much better. This is the main reason I wanted to write another review and add a star. Definitely worth checking out!!

Not the best sushi in the area. I only came here because I was with a large group and it was the only place in the area that could accommodate my party with no wait. Didn't care for much of the rolls here. I would rather go elsewhere.

My friends and I were on a mission to get some all you can get sushi two days ago, and one of my friends suggested that we come here. The place was affordable, $21 per person for all you can eat! I can't remember exactly what we got since we ate so much, but here's what stood out: -Baby lobster roll: Super good! I love the lobsters on top, yummy! -Gyoza: My friends loved it! It came out piping hot and they all remarked on how delicious it was. -Mussels: They were good and covered with a sweet sauce. Overall, the food filled us all up quickly (but then again, most sushi does if you eat a lot of it), but was not extremely satisfying. We came in a group of 10 people and had to pay a $30 gratuity tip - which I would not have minded if it wasn't for the bad service that did not deserve it! Our server spilled water on me the first five minutes we were there, and my friend who suggested the place to us said that she did the same thing last time. Plus, she repeatedly disregarded one of my friends when asking us if we wanted refills for water just because she did not order the all you can eat meal. The food also took a while to get out, and sometimes the food that we requested did not come out. I probably wouldn't come back here again because of the service and slightly above average food. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of other all you can eat sushi places (that might be a bit more expensive) that offer more satisfying food!

Alright so one night we decide to take our friend out for dinner to celebrate his bday. We pull up into the parking lot to Maru and it's empty. Usually it's a bad sign to see nobody in the restaurant during primetime for dinner. Well, we wanted to watch the Laker game so we were like, what the heck lets do it anyway. So we roll into the joint and surprise surprise, we're the only customers there. It should be noted during our dinner, no one else ate there besides us. Anyway, we opt to sit table side away from the sushi bar so we have full view of their large LCD screen with the Laker Game on. AYCE sushi dinner including tax and tip for 3 of us was around ~$70. Decent pricing you could say. As for the sushi, there's much to be desired from the way they prepare their food here. It didn't take long to figure out why nobody ate here. When ordering Nigiri (slices of fish atop a mound of rice), the chef was awfully frugal with the fish. They give a thin sliver of fish barely enough to taste it. Rather, the nigiri itself is composed mostly of rice. So if you're interested in having a night of sushi to taste different types of fish, STAY AWAY. I REPEAT NIGIRI HERE BLOWS. So we kind of decide to roll the rest of the way with rolls (haha!). They provide a sheet with pictures of all the rolls they make at Maru. About 90% of these or so are covered on the AYCE menu. Our favorite was the baby lobster roll. Their rolls do have a lot of variation, a couple deep fried rolls, fresh vegetable rolls, baked rolls. You'll see a lot of rolls centered around a spicy tuna core or california roll style. When they garnish their rolls, they're generous when it comes to the mayo or the sriracha sauce. Overall, I was semi-satisfied with their roll offerings (but that's not really sushi). The theme of stinginess on fish persisted with the rolls. Nothing else was noteworthy. Don't go here really looking for a nice sushi experience. Nigiri is where it should be at and they clearly don't look to satisfy that here. **The quality and freshness of the fish wasn't anything worth noting.

First off its a korean owned place, so if that puts you off you've been told already. I miss their cheap lunch but the price although it has gone up makes the lunch menu bigger. The sushi here is pretty good, lots of stuff you can show someone freshly entering the sushi world. With the AYCE you can get some items from their kitchen as well and I love their pop chicken. Their edamame is salty and i like it like that, and their gyoza is nice and crispy. The people there are super nice and you can have a polaroid snapshot. Not a bad place at all.

I always eat here when I visit my friend in Garden Grove, she loves Maru, but to me its any sushi place, but she thinks the price is cheap. I love to get there Udon noodle with california roll and the free tart ice cream at the end. Nothing special about this place, but it feels clean, it can't hurt to try this place.

Short version: I feel a little timid giving 5 stars to an AYCE sushi place. I'll be very clear as to my reasoning: they gave exactly what they advertised. AYCE sushi, made as you order it (not sitting out getting stale), generally good-sized fish, fresh and good-textured fish. Nothing super-fancy, but if you sit up at the sushi bar as my wife and I did, you'll get quick service and PLENTY of sushi. Longer version: My wife and I came in about 6ish for dinner. Lunch AYCE is 19.95 and Dinner is 22.95. They charge you if you leave any sushi behind, including the rice itself. We sat at the bar, which is ideal if you're doing AYCE because you can just mark your paper and set it on the counter without having to wait. Alaska Roll ($8.95): Good stuff! Moderate size of salmon on top, good amount of sauce without being overwhelming, not too much rice. Good in it's simplicity. Albacore Roll ($9.95): I loved this one! Plenty of fish, same as before with good amount sauce without knocking you out. Crispy Tail ($11.95): This is the only one I wasn't a fan of. I appreciate that the tempura batter was a good amount and crunchy, but very little fish that was overtaken by the cream cheese and batter. Fire Cracker ($9.95): Nothing super unique, but tasty! Again good amount of fish, good balance of flavors. Not as spicy as the name implies. Hot Kiss ($9.95): In the middle of the pack in reference to taste. Good as a 3rd or 4th roll in a line of AYCE. Valentine's Roll (~10.95?): This was the special of the day, included in the AYCE. Definitely my favorite. Inside was spicy tuna, outside was tuna and salmon. It was fish, fish, and more fish! Not too much sauce, great flavor! Baby Lobster Roll ($12.95): We purposely ordered this last because we knew it would be heavy and we wouldn't want to eat more afterwards. They definitely oversauce this one, but I still enjoyed it. Very heavy, but good flavor and lobster was a nice addition. Salmon Nigiri ($2.85): Soooo smooth. My wife is super picky about her fish quality, but she had no complaints! Very little rice (how I prefer) and very tender fish. Yellow Tail Nigiri ($2.95): Fatty and delicious! Spicy Tuna Nigiri (2) ($2.65): They had a neat way of wrapping it in the seaweed so spicy tuna mix wasn't falling off everywhere. I was impressed by the amount of delicious mix they gave me. Octopus Nigiri ($2.95): Really a personal taste. I like octopus so I was a fan, my wife hates octopus so she didn't like it. Total $88.70, we paid $58 including tax and tip! They have a 1.5hour limit on the AYCE, and you can only order 2 rolls per person per order. With my wife and I this meant we could get 4 rolls at a time and tack on some nigiri, so we had no issue getting full. Make sure you sit at the sushi bar, as that's the best way to get your food in a timely manner. We had no trouble with the wait staff, even if they didn't check on us super often someone is always around if you have a question. Like I said before, they get 5 stars because they gave exactly what they claimed to give. No complaints, we'll be back!

My boyfriend and I were wandering Westminster Sunday night at about 8pm, looking for a sushi place to eat at because Sagami-Tei was closed, and our GPS found this place. To our pleasant surprise, it was AYCE, and only $21.95 for dinner! I think it is $17.95 for Lunch. They give you up to an hour and a half to eat. They will charge you if you don't finish, so that's why you can only order 2 rolls per person at a time. Oh, and there's also an a la carte menu. Let's see if I can remember everything we had: Rainbow Dragon Baked Salmon Jamming Crazy Fire Cracker Philadelphia (not a ton of cream cheese, just perfect) We didn't try any nigiri or sashimi, but the rolls were all pretty darned good (which surprised me considering that it's AYCE).The hot sake was pretty good, too ($6.95 for a large). Oh, and the service was super friendly.

*note* I just realized I posted this review awhile back for the WRONG Maru's Sushi!! My BAD! This is the right one, promise! I did an all you can eat feast awhile back. And this is the restaraunt I base my other expreinces for AYCE sushi. The sushi was pretty good...BUT they keep packing in the rice after every single round you order. There was an extra layer of rice after each round...and by the time the 4th round came out, I kid you not, it WAS ALL RICE. Whaaaa?! And this is the kinda place where they CHARGE per uneaten piece. If I wanted to eat loads of rice, I would have stayed home and made 2 cups in my rice cooker! I wanted to be a smart-ass and return the roll and say "Excuse, I didn't order a rice roll!" But of course, I rather not bother, I just shoved those rice balls in my mouth and ran to the bathroom where I could spit it out to flush down the toilet. Ugh, never coming back! At least not for the AYCE.

This review may be a little bias since this is the only sushi restaurant with an AYCE option that I've ever taken on (besides from ToDai, but that doesn't count). However, I genuinely adore this place though! It's rarely ever packed when I come so I always get to sit next to the sushi bars. YAY! The chefs are so friendly and the service is right on point! I'm pretty sure my experience here wouldn't be the same if I didn't sat next to the sushi bar. The sushi rolls are average but there are a variety to choose from including appetizers! Your taste buds won't get bored, I promise. I recommend this place to the folks with big appetites & a tolerance for a BUTTLOAD of rice. ^__^ GOOD EATING!

Enjoyed an AYCE Saturday lunch here this past weekend. I was not let down. Granted, I've yet to eat at a sushi restaurant that I've been displeased with. Maru was delicious. Went through 1/2 a dozen rolls between the 2 of us. Also put down quite a bit of sushi singles, handrolls, and even some gyoza. If it weren't for the sake and beer, I would have gotten out pretty cheap at $17.95 a peice. I shall return. Soon!

The samething Caroline V said..I DONT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS PLACE HAS A LOW RATING? 3.5 is too low. This is the best sushi place that I have eaten in the OC area by far. And possibly the best in the meantime in my all time sushi list. Sure if you wanted to be a critic, there are some similar tastes within each roll, but this is SOME BOMB ASS stuff. My friend introduced me to this place and I got hooked! Most of their rolls are top notched sushi! The best rolls here would have to be...THE BABY LOBSTER. Ya it makes me sad sometimes when I think about eating babies..but it just tastes so good in my mouth! FREAKEN GOOD! It costs $12 on the menu but thats why you get ALL YOU CAN EAT! DUH! I'm sure there are better sushi places somewhere in CA but this is the best one I've been in a long time. And the prices are reasonable. If they had to work on something..it would be their service. The ladies are usually kind but the 2 asian guys making sushi can say hello every once in a while. I understand theyre distracted making sushi, but still I'd feel better coming in if they gave me a smile and HERRO! lol.

Read reviews and decided to give it a try with my dad away from the usual Sagami Tei spot I always go to. Went on a Friday around 3pm and there were only about five people in there. We sat at the bar and got the AYCE. Sushi wasn't as good as Sagami. DRENCHED in sauce. TOO MUCH rice. Not as much selection as Sagami. Overall it was just meh. Comparing it to Sagami probably ruined it to me... maybe the chefs were having that mid-day nap time feeling and didn't really pay attention to what they were doing. Anyway... I'll consider giving this place another shot if someone will take me out. Definitely not paying again.

Terrible. Overpriced. Small portions. That was what was running through my mind when I tasted the baby lobster roll. I don't get what all the hype is about. For $14 I got 6 teeny tiny mushy California rolls topped with bite size shrimp and disgusting sauce. It was all just so unappetizing.

Gotta love all-you-can-eat sushi bars but this isn't a cheap all-you-can-eat (which is just like other sushi places.) All-you-can-eat is $20+ for dinnertime while lunch is about $17+. I believe there are less sushi options during lunch compared to dinner. They do have a lot of delectable cut rolls. One of my favorites is the hot kiss (which is topped with salmon.) Service is pretty quick but there are times when the waitress is in a bad mood and she'll give you an attitude like no other. Another downfall to this place is that their cut rolls are really huge for all-you-can-eat. It's hard to try a lot of different kinds of cut rolls when you're getting full off two or three plates of them. I suggest you try their popcorn chicken appetizer. It's pretty delicious. However, I'd avoid the salad, unless you like a zesty tasting salad.

Back in high school, I came here once when all they had were rolls on their ayce menu. Instead of thick pieces of buttery salmon on a piece of rice, they gave me a giant log of rice with about a cubic centimeter of salmon stuffed inside. If i wanted to get full on rice, I wouldve made it myself. honestly. i came back today after reading on yelp that they had expanded their ayce menu and even offered new items. I figure, hey, my bad experience was three years ago, why not give them another shot? unfortunately, maru didn't live up to its 3.5 star average reviews. The rolls were edible, but I didn't expect too much, since it IS an ayce restaurant. But the nigiri. yuck. not only did they give me a buttload of rice, but they also gave me the sorriest, thinnest pieces of fish i have ever seen. AND TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, their nigiri rice was SOAKED in vinegar. YUCK. it was soggy, broke apart when I picked it up with chopsticks, and was swimming in a layer of vinegar at the bottom. they might as well have served me vinegar soup with rice and a sliver of fish. i was disappointed coming here, and I won't be coming back. if you want a decent ayce sushi bar, go to midori in sherman oaks. But if you dont wanna drive that far, i'd say sagami tei is the best one around this area, but still, nearly every other semi-decent sushi place would offer you better quality.

I've been to this place a few times. First time was with my friend Andrew. I was craving sushi and he was like lets try the AYCE near Westminster Mall. Its pretty decent. $20 for the AYCE include tax and tip. But if you don't eat much, AYCE is not worth it. I think you to order at lest 4 rolls to get your moneys worth. anywho, i do like their hand rolls. especially the salmon skin.

I'm a bit picky when it comes to sushi so this place is only okay.. Only worth it for the all you can eat though. The sushi bar wasn't very fresh but the chefs knew what they were talking about (even though they were Korean; just saying cause it's a Japanese restaurant)

I have really experienced better. It made me nauseated. We came for all you can eat. It was a pretty big menu however. What bothered me was the toaster oven that our cooked food went in. Baked Salmon Roll was over cooked. My favorite roll.. Wah. Spicy Crunch Spider Roll was pretty good but too much sauce. Crunch Roll was okay. Tempura Cali was too doughy and mushy. Pop chicken was doughy and too much sauce. Miso Never came. Mixed Tempura was okay. I wish there was more veggies. And i forgot what else i had there. Everything kind of tasted old. Even though it was made right in front of us. the hospitality is what i usually see in Sushi restaurants. But that didnt make up for the quality of the food. And i could have eaten more if it werent for some strange textures. No nom again.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place. Anyway! I don't even bother eating sushi if its not AYCE sushi. It's $22 for dinner and $18 for lunch? Think about it! You get a much better deal eating AYCE sushi. I know 8 rolls of sushi costs about $9 when you can eat endless for that price. The selections are limited for the AYCE but its a handful to try! It also includes apetizers and nigiri. MUST TRY!

I tried this place based on Hazel Q.'s review. I agree that the new AYCE menu is the tits, but I can't quite give a 4-star rating. Yes, it is a great value, $18 for all you can eat sushi with few menu exclusions. The rolls are good and there is a reasonable selection. The Hot Kiss roll with spicy crab, shrimp tempura and avocado topped with salmon was good. The beer is even cheap (large Sapporo for $5.75). And the service was excellent. Very attentive, friendly and quick. But here's the problem, the sushi freshness/quality was only average. And this place totally failed the salmon skin hand roll test. It had avocado (so so), no burdock root (bad) and it was mostly cooked salmon without the crunchy salmon skin (very bad). See, for me, the whole point of a salmon skin hand roll is to have that crunch. So Hazel, as much as I want to agree with you so you don't feel like a crazy person, I can't. Turns out, you're half crazy. ;)

If I could choose zero star, I would definitley choose it for this place!!! I ordered Chirashi Sushi but the sushi rice wasn't even sushi rice! It was just regular rice with dried sashime slice on top of it. And my husband ordered the combo and chose salmon and tuna the fish was not fresh and very small. I should have just went to Mistuwa and picked up obento with a lot less than what we paid for it today. What a disappointment....

I love sushi, so I didn't think there was an AYCE sushi place that could ever make me tired of sushi, but I stand corrected. This place is at best decent considering the price, but not good enough for me to become a regular. Service was nice and the sushi chefs were nice to talk to, but it can't quite match the food. The salmon, tuna, and white tuna sashimi were okay, somewhat fresh, but there was something odd about the rice. The spice in the spicy tuna overpowered the tuna, and STAY AWAY from the scallop. seriously. The caterpillar roll was decent, but the avocado in my hawaiian roll looked a bit mushy. My friend ordered the Crazy Roll, which was surprisingly good (like a party in my mouth) along with a bunch of other rolls, but we ended up paying extra for a Philly Crunch roll because she didn't like it. The sushi chefs didn't think she could finish the 5 rolls that she ordered, but he was nice enough to throw away 2 pieces to make sure we didn't have to pay extra for more than 1 roll. For this Korean joint trying to pass off as a Japanese restaurant: 2 stars, but because of the courtesy of the thick accented sushi chef: 2.5 stars. My quest for my go-to AYCE sushi place continues.

My boyfriend really enjoyed their octopus, but said their salmon tasted too much like vinegar. The green muscle did not have distinct taste, or a taste at all. Their cooked rolls, however, were well made, and delicious. I would not recommend the jalapeno roll, because it was too creamy and almost sickening to finish. The service was awesome because we were the only few costumers in at 12 pm. Overall, great place for the price.

I came here for the first time today because of the high rating yelp reviews. It WAS good - but I don't think it's 5 star worthy. I love the variety of the rolls. There are tons of specialty rolls. The sushi bar seats about 8 people. There are flat screens all around the restaurant. Their wasabi was good hot enough for me. I like the AYCE option but I didn't go for it today. Came with 2 friends and our total was $67.50. THE FOOD: 2 iced teas - 1 water (good iced tea) 1 albacore sashimi (I was disappointed. Overly seared) 1 salmon sashimi (REALLY good.) 1 albacore roll (good) 1 hot mermaid roll (REALLY good ... highly recommend) 1 spicy tuna roll (average) 1 "mystery roll" I don't recall the name (it was good) 1 salmon skin handroll. (salmon skin was HUGE ... roll was good) Maybe it's just because albacore sashimi is my favorite - but I was really disappointed with it. This factor alone will make me choose Yuki or Gesshin sushi over this spot - both are within a 5 mile radius. However, Maru DOES serve alcohol ... so I guess i'd come here for dinner and do yuki for lunch. I thought it was odd that before the rolls were cut, he put plastic on the top, and then cut them. Maybe I just didn't notice this before when I watched sushi chefs prepare rolls - but I thought it was weird. Is he being lazy about cleaning the knife? I might be totally off ... but it didn't seem right. The service was also pretty slow. We needed drink refills and I had to flag the girl down, even after she had helped the people next to us and not realize all 3 of our drinks were empty. However, everyone working there was really nice. So, overall, I think this is a pretty good spot. Not 5 star worthy, but better than 3 stars. Try that hot mermaid roll - yum!

I love their ayce sushi. So far I've tried many sushi places, but you can't beat all you can eat. The only thing is that you can only order twice per order. It's fine since there are a lot of choices. :p The price range is around $20. Can't beat that.

Great service here. The owners are very friendly and the food tastes great. My husband and I have been coming here for years and we always get the all you can eat. That way, we can share and not have to worry about cost! We always eat our money's worth here. Excellent food and I love when we get surprised with a special dish, made just for us by the chef!

Had dinner here Friday night with 5 friends. Sat at the bar and had the AYCE for $22 and a large Sapporo. Excellent service by the host as well as the ridiculously cute waitress. Sushi Chefs were cool, although we didn't talk to them much. Sushi is fresh and better than Cal Beach. Overall an enjoyable experience. By the way, this is a Korean sushi restaurant. I'm always weary about these but I was very pleased with the quality and authenticity of the food.

So...I met up with a high school friend for lunch here out of pure convenience. High school friend, wow, soooo long ago! I am an avid sushi fan and am not particularly picky but reasonably picky. O do remember going here once or twice a few years ago, but don' remember too much (is that good or bad?) Anyways... Sushi was decent, we sat at the bar, staff was very friendly and accommodating. It has all the makings of a decent sushi experience. We ordered a Firecracker roll, and a bunch of different sushi (yellow tail, salmon, albacore, shrimp, and tuna). One thing that I thought was odd, all of the sushi was pre-cut on plates in the little fridge thingy in front of us. I'm sure that would raise a bunch red flags for serious sushi goers, but I just thought it was odd. Tasted OK, especially the yellow tail (mmmmmmmmy favorite). We didn't eat a lot, we needed to be quick. When we were done, they took our plates and thanked us. I think the owner came by to see if everything was good. We did have a hard time getting the check (surely they wanted to keep us around for eye candy!) I think we were just mis-understood 7 times, though. Not a huge deal, but a little annoying. Prices were normal as far as sushi goes, not cheap, not pricey. Overall OK, would only return for convenience.

This was a great All You Can Eat spot (I went to a couple and they were just mediocre). But Maru offers fresh nigiri and rolls that are just plain yummy. I came on a Friday evening, and it was really chill. Not many people were there so it allowed us to interact with the sushi chef, which is always nice. Major plus, the rolls they offer are not just simple standard rolls, but has a variety of rolls that are good and don't fall a part easily. A downside, I had collected all my plates and left it in front of me. I mean it was not busy at all when I went, so I was waiting for the waitress to pick up the plates as I ate. It took her about the 5th place to come by. Another downside, other AYCE places offer complimentary ice cream at the end. Maru doesn't. Why Maru? That would be the topping to the cake! Overall, good experience and I will come back again to try all the rolls I didn't get this time.

5 STARS if they DIDN'T RAISE THEIR PRICES. (stupid economy) so before they raised their prices, i had found the best all you can eat sushi for the buck in all of the galaxy. i believe it was some sort of secret because it was never advertised, but hey, it was wonderful. Lunch was $12 and dinner was $16 for all you can eat sushi. Now this is not your typical run of the mill all you can eat places, they made it fresh and there were so many choices, even the deluxe/expensive rolls. i did my best kobayashi impression and had 30 rolls. the salmon/chicken/gyoza is also pretty good, as it comes with tempura in a combo. My girlfriend and i have gotten the same waiter everytime and he has the funniest facial expressions ever and is very amusing. They recently raised their prices, but their food is still great in quality. Service is fast, very clean restaurant.

I went to this place before and HATED it. I felt like every single roll was a variation of the California Roll. However, today my friend DRAGGED me there because all of the other sushi places were closed or didn't open until 4/5pm on Sundays. I wasn't even going to eat there and just sit but I saw a pic on Yelp of their Jamming roll and I wanted to try it. I wound up getting the Lunch AYCE (which is still $17.99) and was pleasantly surprised. The food was good, the fish seemed fresh, and the rolls had GREATLY improved. HOWEVER, if you fee like waiting 10 minutes in between choices, this is the place to go. Their service is SLOW and you literally have to flag down the servers to get your next order or even the bill. They forgot a few of my items (because their checking off procedure needs improvement) so it took even LONGER for my food to arrive. I stopped ordering just because I was soo annoyed of the process it takes to get your food. That might be their ploy though, who knows. Overall, this isn't my number 1 choice for an AYCE sushi place. There are SOOO many better sushi places in OC (like SagamiTei). But if it's Sunday afternoon and I'm craving sushi, this will probably be the place I'll be at.

I've stumbled across the restaurant several times but I never went in, but I figured it was a good price for all-you-can-eat sushi so I invited a friend to go with me. The interior is comfortable and decently-sized. When I went, there weren't too many people. There were two sushi chefs and two waitresses on that day (I went on Saturday). The service was good and the waitresses were quite nice--they were all welcoming. Now for the food. I wasn't expecting too much for all-you-can-eat sushi. I've had my fair share of bad sushi and I'm generally not too picky. But I have to say that I didn't enjoy the sushi that much. The best sushi they have is baby lobster (which is really just crawfish). When they served it, I could tell it was freshly made because the rice was really warm. I'm not too big on eating warm rice with cold sushi ingredients though. Most of the rolls seemed to be drowned in mayonnaise as well, which gets a bit sickening after a while, but otherwise the rolls are pretty good. And while the nigiri sushi was tolerable, some of the sashimi on top wasn't fully thawed yet. I didn't like the rice either--it seemed too heavy on vinegar. I like it when I can taste the fish, but in this case, the flavor of the rice seemed to overpower the sashimi at times. I honestly liked the side dishes more than I liked the sushi. The gyoza was pretty good--I would recommend that. When I couldn't stomach the sushi anymore, I just sat there eating edamame. Not that the sushi was that horrible... it just gets to be too much. Anyway, you can't go wrong with edamame. Just know what you're getting into when you go here. AYCE sushi isn't necessarily quality sushi. I'd much rather be willing to go to a place that charged per dish since the quality is generally much better.

"Meh. I've experienced better" just about sums up the AYCE dinner for me. The rolls are practically all the same (CA-roll based) with little twists (topped with tuna, topped with salmon, etc.) The sushi rice was cold and a little hard, fish wasn't very fresh. I wish I'd gone to Sushi-Ya or Sagami-Tei instead. Service was very friendly though. Sad to say I won't be back!

The food here is pretty decent. I was worried that orange county didn't have any good ayce sushi, but to my surprise this place was ok. Usually, I'm against having calfornia based rolls because they're usually filler food, but the lobster roll here is the exception. The base is california roll, but they put fried lobster bits on top of it with a pretty good sauce. Yup, this place is a-ok.

I think this place is eww to meh. We ordered a lot of different roles here. The sweet sauce on the shrimp tempura roll had too much mirin in the sweet sauce, I could taste the bitterness. The spicy crunch roll was okay, wasn't bad. The worst part, they served us fishy-tasting lobster roll. We took a bite of the lobster and it tasted like it was frozen a few times and then reheated and given to us. It had a stench to it when we ate it. We ate two pieces, found a bag in my friend's purse and started stuffing the roll down the bag and threw it in the trash can on our way out....that's how bad it tasted. After that roll, it kind of ruined our appetite and we just left. Service was also pretty bad, they pretty much ignored us after they got us our orders...we had to wave the waitress down to get our check. We won't be coming back to this place after that experience. Our stomachs felt funny afterwards. Visit my blog at, thankgoditsfood.wordpres… , for photos and a more in depth review! :)

Was a little worried when I heard the All You Can Eat was $15.99! And pulling up the restaurant there was barely anyone in there! Buuut I was wrong! The All You Can Eat is Rolls Only! Not I thought this was gonna be a problem but it really wasn't ! I'm typically a sushi (fish over rice) person. But the rolls were good! But yeah they sure pack on the rice! Especially as started earlier the Salmon and Scallop rolls! Waste of space in my opinion! The language barrier with some of the staff was a challenge at times. I swear one of the chefs were hitting on me! HAHA! But hey ... it got us a free sake shot and a free glass of beer! Good times! Would definitely go there again! If you are a Roll Fan ... I would recommend this place!

I love this location! Food is great. Service can be a little slow, so don't go if you're in a rush but everyone is really nice! They have all you can eat which is great for big appetites!!

I came here for AYCE sushi, I'd rather go during lunch than dinner hours though just because it costs around $20. I came here Friday night with my family. Service was slow at first but it was understandable because it was packed. My challenge was to order everything on the menu, but we had to stop on the 2nd round. :( Next time, I'll try to finish off the menu :)

Atmosphere: Casual. sushi bar, banquet room, and tables available. Ordered items: Rock and roll, spicy tuna hand rolls on soy paper, yellow tail hand rolls on soy paper, heavenly burrito, scallop sashimi, spider roll, tiger roll, and fire cracker roll. Favorite items: Albacore sashimi & heavenly burrito I would have to say this is the best AYCE sushi place in Huntington Beach. Beware its in a sketchy parking lot by its self, so buy your self some pepper spray and go. We went around 9 so it was dead but the service was amazing, we got everything super fast. Normally im not a fan of AYCE unless its amazing quality, but this place was good and worth it. I was a HUUUGGE fan of their albacore it was delicious and melts in your mouth (drools). They do charge extra for soy paper hand rolls, but overall great place to go to.

All you can eat before 3:30 was around $18.99 which was not bad and the service was good. Nice quiet sushi joint. Greeting upon walk in. Friendly smiles. Clean. Cons: The sushi rolls were very big in size pertaining to its rice to fish ratio. Some of the fish didn't taste as fresh in the house rolls but the albacore and Yellowtail was decent. They charge if you have leftovers like other places which is normal. We had a few bites leftover of a roll which we didn't finish but the waitress understood and didn't charge us. Friendly waitress!

This place has some good sushi and delicious rolls, as well as nicely priced all you can eat option. I loved the salmon nigiri as well as the fact the nigiri wasn't on top of a huge block of rice. More fish than rice to get full on. The only problem I faced was the wait time for the roll I had ordered in the first round. It was a hot kiss roll which was delicious. However after first round was over it never even came I think it was just not made or forgotten. Then It took a while for it to be made when it was ordered in the second round. I waited a WHILE for that roll. I don't want to be too harsh because we did have a very large group of about 20 all doing all you can eat, so there was a lot to keep track of. The servers were all very polite and attentive so I appreciate all of them! I still had a great time and was able to eat other things I ordered (hand rolls, appetizers) all part of the AYCE. I was just a little turned off waiting so long. Overall a good place and I would actually go there again, the food was good!

Came here last night with my boyfriend, and OMG it was amazing!!! The servers were very attentive and always checking up on us to see if we needed anything. The food was incredibly fresh and tasty. We had a tiger roll, albacore roll and our favorite of all was the heavenly burrito. We also got nigiri and the fish was delicious. I highly recommend coming here. It was so good we are thinking of going there again today for lunch.

3 stars, the sushi is just A-OK, nothing spectacular. Came here with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. We all opted for the AYCE dinner for $23.95. The servers were nice and attentive. Although I think some rolls were forgotten/never arrived. We ordered a variety of specialty rolls, hand rolls and nigiri to share. Honestly, some rolls had too much sauce/mayo. The eel also had some small bones. The nigiri didn't have too much rice; the fish to rice ratio was good. The yellowtail hand roll tasted good. I like the fact that the seaweed wasn't soggy... you know that feeling when you can't take a bite because the seaweed is too wet.. well the seaweed stayed crisp and it was easy to eat! Filled with plenty of fish. They also played a fun birthday song for the birthday girl and brought out a yummy dessert. It was vanilla ice cream with tempura fried banana topped with whipped cream and drizzled with chocolate. The banana was so good with the vanilla ice cream. Overall, this was an okay dining experience. Highlight of the night was the birthday song and dessert! Love making memories with friends :)

Awwww yis. Went here for my boyfriend's birthday. We were NOT expecting the size of the banana sundae (in comparison to Cheesecake Factory b-day sundae? I don't like my b-days anymore). A couple of our friends left early so they missed out! Service was actually a bit more swift (besides the time it takes to prepare sushi)... Maybe it was because we were willingly taking our time for the birthday boy. *This* time, we were prepared for what to order and what not to order; therefore, greater satisfaction. We were full without feeling the effects of cream cheese. We have been sushi'd out!

The Skinny: This places offers an above average experience of AYCE sushi. Sushi is above average and prices are affordable. Environment: The restaurant is located in a pretty large plaza that was very empty for a Saturday. It may be a little hard to find; you won't come here by driving by it and noticing a sign. You would have to know what you are looking for. As for the inside of the restaurant, it is very small. The tables are small and seats are small, which sometimes is an issue when it does get busy. Even though there were not many people ahead of us (around 2 groups), it took us almost an hour wait. Service: Service here is great. Even though it was a wait, the were good with asking who the people on the waiting sheet were periodically. The service (chefs) did falter when they forgot two rolls on our first order, but because it is AYCE it isn't that big a deal to me. We got it next round. Service was pretty prompt despite it getting busier while we were there. Sushi: I was surprised at how decent the sushi was. I always order Nigiri sushi when I do AYCE, and I get really annoyed at places that put large clumps of rice. This place had pretty minimal rice, how it should be. The fish was nice and fresh; I had salmon, yellowtail, scallop, and smelt egg and all of them did not disappoint. Maybe I had lower expectations for AYCE that I ended up being pleasantly surprised, but hey no complaints. Overall: 4/5 Though the place may be claustrophobic/tight to some people, you can't beat the price they got here for AYCE. They don't have premium items but they got the basics and they are pretty decent and great for the price.

Lunch for two with drinks $46 We were in the mood for AYCE sushi and Yelp search came up with Maru Sushi. Great, only a 5 minute drive away. I never knew it was here. Just a stones throw away from GEN BBQ...another AYCE winner. The young lady at the front greeted us and sat us immediately. No waiting. It was our first time and she explained how it all works. Simply write your order on the check list. There's 3 "sessions" but she said if you want more then just fill it in on the side. There's no time limit, either. Any substantial leftovers will be charged as is the rule for many AYCE restaurants. We power downed 3 full sessions. I can't remember how many rolls total but it was a lot. Nearly a food coma. It was definitely nap time when I got home. Our plates were always removed promptly. Tea was refilled quickly as well. Pretty decent sushi for the price. Good value and close to home so I'll be back.

My brother lives nearby and was always raving about the awesome sushi here.I had been to the Maru Sushi off of Harbor and Adams in Costa Mesa (not sure if they are related), where my review was A-OK on the experience. Since this version of Maru Sushi in Westminster seemed to be exciting enough with the AYCE invite, I thought.. "let's take a stab at it.." Well, I think I was too hopeful. Let's dish why.. This place was busy. I'm sure because of the many patrons who are local and love an AYCE deal. We had to wait for a table, which on a Friday night didn't seem to be too long. Once we sat down, the menus were overwhelming with info that I got lost for a minute, until the server came and explained to us how the AYCE system worked. It was a menu of certain appetizers and sushi rolls to choose from. We chose carefully and wisely. The server was nice and not impatient to explain to us. Ordered plenty of Kirin and then we were on our way. The food was nicely displayed and the sushi was filling. Decent portions of sushi (which is very important) are noticeable. Because it started to get busier thru the evening, our server seemed to be delayed on coming back to our table. I wouldn't recommend this AYCE if you are truly hangry.. it can take a while. But we understood, our server had many tables, and he was still very polite and attentive to our orders. Perks: As mentioned, decent portions. Beer and Wine available. The AYCE option is great for Sushi lovers. Downsides: Small inside dining area. Can feel a little cramped. Can be busy than expected. KNOW before you GO: The AYCE is per person, so no sharing one plate is allowed. Also, keep in mind that what you order and keep ordering is what you finish. If you order and don't finish, you most likely will be charged for it. ( it happened to my brother) so be sure to note any disclaimers. OverALL: A-OK. I was hopeful for an EPIC experience but it wasn't horrible. Definitely worth a try for AYCE sushi first timers.

I've passed by this restaurant several times and have always wanted to try it out. All you can eat for $23 is an amazing deal, because the food is amazing! The daily special was included, I got 2 of the geisha rolls. Great service and relaxed setting, I will definitely be coming back.

This is my second time going here going with my date. I have to admit that I really liked it. The sushi is delicious and it's affordable. Not a lot of places offer Ayce sushi. This place is Danky danks. It is sooooo good!! Honestly my boyfriend and I always come here and we eat all you can eat. Our favorites are the CRAWFISH(must try it), rock n roll, and Vegas. So flavorful and the presentation is fantastic. The sauces on the sushi is amazing. Love love love!

The AYCE prices for dinner are competitive for the area (being around $23 for dinner) but the quality of service, and being a open a tad later than other local sushi bars, gives me a warm feeling about Maru Sushi. The quality of some of the fish isn't the best, but others are phenomenal, such as the salmon, yellowtail and the albacore! (I'd save room in your stomach and avoid the tuna, as it's not that great a quality) Definitely get the oyster shooters if you've got the chance as it's 1 order per person (2 oysters per order) and that's the limit. So nice though. If you go with your mother, you might get lucky and get an extra order (my mom was clever and talkative so the waiter put in a special order for us) Maru Sushi is definitely a winner for being open till 10:00 for the late night sushi craver

It was ok. I wouldn't come back here voluntarily. I think it's great because they offer an AYCE option which is a really good deal so if you're looking for that, you should definitely try it here. There's no fun or special rolls and the server really didn't pay attention to us once our orders came out. It sounded like the people at the bar had a better time because the sushi chef was making them take sake bombs. The rolls that I did order were not too impressive either. The only ones I liked were the basic ones like the crunchy roll. The albacore with onion roll was ok but I got tired of eating it after 2 bites. The rice to fish ratio was pretty good though. I hate going to sushi places that give me more rice than fish. Overall it was OK of a dining experience and nothing that I would come back for.

  • Dylan M.

This place has the worst service! I ordered sushi to-go and waited for over 40 minutes and went back up to the counter. Than the lady says the typical "so sorry." Puts in my order right then and charged me $54. After about 5 minutes later I said forget it. Refund me my money and she almost didn't want to saying its almost done. Lady didn't even offer anything to help compensate for the long wait. Do not waste your time here.

  • Linda L.

Dynamite roll is my favorite. The sushi is pretty good, overall and it's usually fairly packed. People are really nice and maybe I was just one of their unlucky diners. (Although from other reviews posted here, it seems forgetting things people ordered is a trend.) Ordered from the menu and waited more than 40 minutes before our rolls came out. They completely had forgotten about my table. A group that had not even been seated when we placed my order had received their entire meal before mine. I asked three people what the status of our orders were and they were really apologetic about it. They didn't refill our drinks either though... Overall, the sushi is decent and people are generally nice but they didn't really make anything better in terms of keeping us waiting for that long. Hopefully this doesn't happen to anyone else!

This place offers ayce and regular a la carte sushi as well as other entrees. One of the best things about this place is that they don't force everyone in the party to get ayce in order for one person to get ayce. The sushi is okay. Not the best quality which is why I don't get ayce. On my most recent trip I got a salad which was pretty good and filling. It had tuna and salmon in it. The prices are on the higher side considering the quality but it's a nice place to go to ayce if you don't wanna drive far.

Service - it was just OK The server was nice but failed to continuously check up on us like the other sushi places that I have been to (service is #1 for me ) Sushi- it was decent but considering the price, I will not come back. Sushi wave down in Newport is probably the same price and has WAY better sushi. It was decent but it was kinda cold ...and the fried ones tasted like it was dipped in oil then popped out .... It did not taste fresh.. If the price was cheaper I would not be shocked but for 24$ I deserve better sushi! But hey I gotta good picture for my Instagram..!

I love coming here on the weekend for lunch or even in the afternoon for dinner. This is a great AYCE place in Westminster/Huntington Beach when you don't feel like driving to Tustin for AYCE sushi. The fish to rice ratio is pretty good as of recently, maybe because of the popularity of Sake 2 Me. I absolutely love all the servers the girls and guys are always so sweet, not to mention they don't pass judgement when they see me scarf down sushi twice my weight. hehe. My favorite thing to order here is the Nigiri Sushi. If you get any of the deep fried rolls or baked rolls they fill you up fast! The bf always loves to order some green tea mochi after as well.

This is an amazing all you can eat sushi! The sushi is AWESOME. I love everything that I've tried (so about 3/4) of the menu. I recommend the Golden Tiger, Hot Kiss, Heavenly Burrito, and the salmon skin hand rolls. Staff are super friendly and really try to make sure you have everything you need and ordered. My mom and I have celebrated our birthdays here, and they bring out a special surprise for you and play a birthday jam over the speakers. Love this place!

  • Sabrina C.

This place looks unimpressive but fiance and I have determined that we just love it here. Sometimes we try new places but always end up wishing we came here instead!! While the menu is not huge they have a wide variety of rolls, you are sure to find something to help satisfy your sushi cravings. Miso soup is consistently good as is the edamame and iced green tea. Our favorites are the Las Vegas roll and the Jalapeno roll. The best part are the sauces!! Keeps the sushi dishes full of flavor and moist! The fish is high quality though so they don't need much help with that. Bento boxes are stuffed with food! Awesome AYCE prices. I need to make a run here again soon!! You can hit the sushi bar and have your meal rather quickly if you are in a hurry. Sometimes after my workout class at night I will stop by and get some takeout. They close at 10 and I have been told by the staff that as long as I can get my order in by 9:45 and be there a few minutes later to pick it up, they will make sure it is ready to go for me to take home. Will continue to come back as long as they continue to make great food. If you want consistent quality at an affordable price, come here.

This place has always been busy every time I've gone ( usually dinner) so sometimes it's reflected in the service. Sushi is good. Your average rolls plus some specials and sashimi+ nigiri. Love their salmon :)

  • Carolina O.

I don't get why this place was packed. If you know about food, quality, and presentation, DON'T come here. Fish was not fresh (slimy, not firm), scallops in a hand roll were mushy and shiny, couldn't eat it. My "hot" tea was tepid at best, the miso soup was decent but still watery, lacked flavor... even the ginger was sub-par.... on top of it, the service was terrible. We quickly paid the bill and left hungry because we couldn't stomach eating anything else past our first round. You've been warned... I am rarely compelled to write a review.

A good spot to go to for all you can eat sushi in Huntington Beach. $23.95 per person and works just like any other all you can eat where you order in rounds. There are three rounds on the menu, but you can order more if you haven't suffered from sushi overload by then. Friendly staff. Constantly was checked on by various staff members, not just our waiter. Sushi was decent. We ordered 12 rolls, but none of the rolls really stood out to me to give this place a four or five star rating.

  • Madi J.

The only reason I've been reluctant to review this place is because I love it so much and want it to stay not crowded. 10/10 for all you can eat fish quality, whenever I've gone to all you can eat the fish is always not very good but this place it's great. The staff is always very friendly and accommodating. Our favorite time to go is when you can get the lunch prices. Defiantly get the green muscles they are to die for I could eat 20 and still want more. The only thing that isn't that great is their miso, it never has enough miso in it and is a little watered down.

  • Jack V.

The location is small and the menu and pricey compared to others, but the service is great! I have mixed feelings about the food, because it's a small location and in an area not very populated i don't think they get a lot of service. Sometimes when I go and it's kind of dead the food doesn't seem so fresh. But obviously on a busy night the food is pretty fresh. I only go here for the all you can eat, and like I mentioned first it's pricey compared to other restaurants. I have had no issues with service at this location at all, honestly they might be a little too helpful at times. A server is always there when you need them.

I frequent Maru for AYCE sushi with a buddy of mine. I was in last night and probably had the worst experience I've ever had. Service from waiters was slow. We sat at the bar and got our rolls pretty slow. Rolls were rushed, lots of rice minimal fish. Then at the end to top it off we made small talk with the sushi chef, and he mentioned "Rolls were really good right? Leave me a large tip!" My friend and I laughed and said "Sure." Won't be back for AYCE, that is for sure.

  • Phan V.

AYCE sushi is decent, and I'd definitely come back again if it were not for two things that irk me. There's a female server that works the night shift, her attitude was very aloof and sarcastic, at first I thought she was doing it to be cool, but I soon realized she might just have a stick up her ass for no apparent reason? Also, the lobster roll, contains NO lobster! Wtf? Instead it's crawfish, umm, that's something you should state seeing as how there are people like me who are ALLERGIC TO CRAWFISH!! Never again!

  • Alicia D.

When it comes to AYCE I am very skeptical of quality especially when it comes to sushi. This place is by far the best quality and my new favorite go to place for all you can eat. The service was great. During the week it seems to be fairly empty so we were seated immediately. A little bit of a wait on the weekend but not too bad. I do not eat seaweed and they were easily able to substitute my rolls with soy paper. Great little hole in the wall place.

I'm an AYCE sushi veteran. I have passed by this restaurant many times always wondering how good they might be. Today I finally bit the bullet and decided to give it a try. I went for lunch and was greeted eagerly by the hostess/waitress as soon as I walked in the door. I sat at the sushi bar and decided on the AYCE. The nigiri sushi was terrific. I had the salmon and the fish was fresh and the rice portion was quite small which is such a change of pace for AYCE places. I also had the seared tuna which was good. I also had a couple outstanding rolls: the Hot Kiss Roll (a roll containing spicy crab, shrimp tempura, avocado, & cucumber, topped my sizable slices of salmon) and the Lobster Roll. The portions were large and full of seafood. The sushi chef was very nice, cheerful and accommodating. The waitress was also prompt and helpful. I would have to say this is one of the best AYCE places I've tried so far (in this $17 to $25 price range). I will definitely be back.

Better than expected. I don't enjoy sushi but the party I was with does. They really enjoyed the all you can eat option and did get their money's worth. The staff was friendly, and helped me pick something off the menu(I'm a picky eater). We stayed until the place was near closing but wasn't rushed out. It is small, but it wasn't crowded. They also have ample parking, though there's nothing in the surrounding area to do other than eat.

  • Kimberly Q.

I have loved this place for about 4 years. But I recently came in for lunch, and was kind of disappointed by it. The fish was just ok, didn't seem as fresh, and worst of all, ALL my plates were dirty. They expect people to eat off dirty plates? The service is quick and attentive. I appreciate that. But dirty plates? It will make me think twice about coming back. Sushi pieces are decent with a small amount of rice. Which is nice. But unless they clean their plates better, I won't be coming back.

This is probably my favorite AYCE sushi place around my house. Their lunch deal is only like 18 dollars which is really cheap! So you should definitely check this place out in the middle of the day. The seating is always pretty quick, and out of the two times we have been here, the servers have been very kind and helpful. They help you with the menu and special requests, and they always clear up the table to make sure you have plenty of room for the food to come. It's not top dollar sushi, but you are obviously not paying top dollar, so you can't complain. I've seen some people talk bad about the sushi but honestly it takes great for what you are paying. It comes out quick, it tastes just like you expect it to, and it's very flavorful and filling. If you live in the Huntington area by the 405, this is where you should go. One of the top sushi places in the area. And it's open almost all day, unlike the other places around that open only for dinner.

It all began with me looking for a cozy hole in the wall sushi spot that delivered great service, amazing food for decent price. not that I'm a cheap ass or anything but I don't like those big trendy restaurants that under serve you with basic quality food while expecting a fat tip. Well that being said, I think I found that spot and I'm definitely going to keep being a loyal customer to this restaurant. Maru sushi is a definition of a restaurant that doesn't look too appealing from the outside but as soon as you step in, you feel at home with good vibes, I sat down for happy hour and mind you I didn't know it was happy hour, I just got lucky on a Saturday afternoon. I sat, had a couple beers a small sake and I enjoyed the #2 lunch special. I walked out the happiest kid in the world with the belly just full enough to get me through today and a perfect little buzz. I highly recommended this location to anyone that is looking for good service, fresh fish and a quality conversation with your sushi chef. Here was my verdict, I had a #2 special, one regular Saporro one large saporro one small Sake for around $16 and change, you can't beat that with a stick at a fat kid's birthday party! all this while at the sushi bar. I was very pleased with Maru Sushi thank you and cheers! PS. their waiters and service were on point.

The Best! of all the AYCE sushi restaurants in Orange County. The Chef's are fast without effecting the quality. The Todai at the mall closed and we were lost for quality fast sushi. When we found Maru we wished we would have started looking even before Todai closed.

Was looking for a local place to celebrate my sons birthday that also served More than sushi for the non sushi eaters. This place was what was chosen. We ordered the Gondola for $40 for the non sushi eaters. It had teriyaki chicken, beef ribs, tempura veggies, crunchy rolls and California rolls. Also came with soup and salad. Feeds 3-4 people. The others ordered all you can eat sushi for $23.95. I also had a glass of plum wine $5.95. They let me bring it my own cake which was nice. The Gondola food was ok. Chicken was dry. The sushi eaters enjoyed their food so thumbs up from them. When it came cake time, they dimmed the lights and blasted a birthday song, which was completely unexpected. Cons: the service sucks. Couldn't get refills on water or sodas. Not one dish was ever cleared away. Sat with an empty gondola forever. Soup and salad dishes never cleared either so we stacked them all up on the empty gondola. When I asked them, to bring out the cake, they brought plastic spoons and no plates. Had to get up, actually peek Behind the curtained kitchen area to get plates. They need a busboy or more help to refill drinks or remove dishes.

I think this AYCE sushi place is okay. If I'm craving a ton of sushi but I'm too lazy too drive too far I'll come here. The sushi isn't the freshest and they don't have an amazing fish to rice ratio like sake2me. Their rolls are not too bad though!

I don't know what I was thinking when I decided to come here. Came on a Friday night and it seemed pretty empty and so that should have been a sign. It's $19 for lunch and $24 for dinner. What we got: Tamago, Tuna, White Tuna, Albacore, Red Snapper, Salmon, & Salmon Egg Sushi: thin slices of fish compared to the amount of rice they give you. Tuna, white tuna, albacore, red snapper, and salmon were just okay. They didn't taste all that fresh. Tamago I didn't try so I wouldn't know. I had a bit of the salmon egg sushi and I'm not a fan, but my friend said he has had wayyy better salmon egg. Hot Kiss: shrimp tempura roll with salmon on top. The roll looked so pathetic...it was tiny and the shrimp tempura wasn't crunchy and the slices of salmon were so small. Crazy Roll: it had salmon, albacore, red snapper, cream cheese, cucumber, and avocado. Small roll was well and nothing 'crazy' about it either. Spider Roll: soft shell crab and avocado topped with crunch. Not crunchy at all. We ended up not even finishing it... Service: I would have to say service was pretty good. Food came out fast...maybe way too fast as if everything was already pre-cut or something. Drinks were always refilled and the ladies would come by pretty often to ask if we needed anything else.

Overcharging people! These people charged me $9 extra because I didn't finish my food.. Me and my hubby ordered the all you can eat sushi, but if you dont finish every single last piece of it, you will get charged for it. Not to mention i had to flag down waiters to come refill my drink or what not and this place is not that big

Sushi was delicious. My only complaint is some of the rolls would fall apart while trying to pick them up with chopsticks. But everything tasted so good! We got the following: Snow White Hawaiian Tiger Roll Rose Golden tiger Stuffed Tomatoes Service was on point. Place was clean and ambiance pretty chill.

Came for AYCE and I think it was around $25.00/per person, which is a little pricey, but still it's all you can eat. We were seated right away, the place is nice and big inside, but casual enough that we brought my friends baby and no one was bothered when he got a little fussy, and the wait staff could not have been nicer, they were a bit slow and never came back to check on us really and we had to get up and ask for the bill, but maybe they just thought we were still eating since we had quite a bit left (thank you for not charging us!) They have tons of options for the all you can eat including interesting rolls I haven't seen elsewhere (Popeye Roll for example). We started with miso soup and I had a garden salad which are both included as options for the AYCE...the garden salad is worth mentioning...I don't know what it was, but the dressing on it was superb. The little salad might have been my favorite part of the meal, which is an unfortunate statement for the sushi. We order a few pieces of sashimi, good but definitely not extremely fresh. The rolls were all huge and they don't load them up with rice like other AYCE places...they were rolled with a bit of a sloppy hand, but that's ok, they were pretty busy. The fish quality overall wasn't super great, but I enjoyed the flavor profiles of most of them. Unfortunately we way over-ordered so I left feeling stuffed. I would consider returning here if I was super hungry, but I think there are better AYCE places and DEFINITELY much better sushi places with fresher fish. This is worth checking out if you live in the area and are craving a shit ton of sushi, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here.

So here's the scoop for All you can eat sushi I was impressed The sushi was fast fresh snd very great variety. Certain things like the sashimi and protein rolls wrapped in cucumber aren't included that's al a carte but honestly who cares. If you Wamu sashimi so bad order nigiri sushi and forget the rice. The variety of rolls we got were all very good and tasty. During the all you can eat experience they bring you few pieces tempura fried calamari and and oyster or two each if you request it. This we were told to have write in our order. The oyster was not so good grainy and fishy but nice try the calamari was ok. But they were just bites The sushi was actually really good and I never thought I'd say that about all you can eat sushi. It's different than places I'd been to before its sit down and order rather than Buffet style which I prefer because I think it's fresher that way. Besides our waiter being little clueless and forgetful I have to say I would definitely go back.

They accommodated my entire birthday party of more than 25 and everything went smoothly. They set aside tables for us. I also got a free birthday sundae. Food was good. Fish was fresh. Cannot complain. Price is reasonable considering cost of seafood right now.

Been craving sushi and the only way to satisfy this craving is to visit an all-you-can-eat sushi joint. I've been going to Maru Sushi since I was in High School. They increased the prices over the years. The current prices are $18 for lunch and $24 for dinner. If you come here accepting that you won't be eating high-end fish and that the meal will just be satisfying (and not AMAZING), I think you'll leave happy. When ordering from the all-you-can-eat menu, most of the items can be ordered as many times as you like. The daily specials are usually limited to one order per person. The last time I went, the daily specials included oysters (which I completely understand why that has to be limited). They have all the typical rolls that you'll see at any other sushi restaurant. On top of that, the all-you-can-eat menu appetizers include edamame, miso soup, salads and chicken. This is perfect for those that get easily tired of sushi (although I question why you're at an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant). My one complaint about this restaurant is that they put way too much rice on the sushi. I get that they want to fill you up with rice so it won't cost them as much, but it really ruins the experience when you're just eating rice. If you have another all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant around OC that you love going to, please let me know!

This place is clean the employees are helpful & attentive me & my good friend came in for the all you can eat lunch special which is about $18.00 with appiteizers included which is egg roll, miso soup, soy beans etc... Does not including the beverage that's a separate charge. They also have a huge sushi selection to choose from Mmmmm so taste & fresh! They have a house special sushi they scuba diver it's delicious

I love this place I have been to a few sushi places and this place is my favorite they have the best rolls. They always have a chefs special but it seems to always have something spicy in it which bums me out :( We always sit at the bar, sometimes at a table when the in-laws come and we always get the rolls fast weather at the bar or table. The service is always super amazing I have never had a bad experience here. Love the spider roll, and the husband loves the heavenly burrito :)

Such an amazing place! Came here with a couple people and I can say hands down I have never had such a great experience with a sushi restaurant. Why they are amazing: 1. Excellent quality! Everything was delicious and fresh. 2. Amazing service! Everyone was incredibly friendly and we had multiple people check in with us so we were never wanting for anything. 3. The all-you-can-eat lunch special is an incredible deal: $18 for all-you-can-eat everything, no exceptions (including miso soup, appetizers, cut rolls, specialty rolls, everything!) ! Overall I had a fantastic experience at Maru Sushi and I will definitely be back!

I came here for the lunch all you can eat special on my second day in California with my brother and aunt. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. The tables were very clean! You order food by numbering how many things you want on an ordering sheet. And my brother and I just ordered as many rolls as we could, there are no complaints. We ordered the tuna and yellowtail hand rolls which were absolutely delicious! This restaurant is very reminisce of Sushi Family in Flushing, New York, except with a nicer wait staff! 4/5 for the food. 5/5 for wait staff. Cleanliness 5/5!

I am always on the hunt for a great AYCE sushi restaurant. I have been to many, and Maru is one of the best! Their staff is very friendly and they manage to get all my orders out within 5 minutes. Plus, it's affordable and tastes great!

  • Kira T.

I am always in search for affordable yet tasteful sushi that is closer to home, and just recently I found this hole-in-the-wall place that is less than a mile from my house. Score! If you have read my previous reviews I do my judgement on a sushi establishment based off of some personal criteria. One, they must have a good crunch roll. Two, an amazing philly role, and three, delicious sashimi. Maru Sushi has met that criteria. The food is fresh and the service presented to me was amazing. I do wish that their prices were a bit cheaper, but I can understand. Pssh that darn recession.

Sushi is not hard to get wrong. Hard to get right. This place GOT IT. Best sushi in SoCal hands down. It's an unassuming place from the outside. But the food and service Is quality. Don't miss out on the "stuffed tomatoes". They seem to use snow crab in many of their rolls. My favorite!!! A+.

  • Rossi Y.

Love this place. Love the Las Vegas roll and the jalapeño roll, the sauces are very good as well. Chefs are always one of the top choices. I actually liked the simplicity of the place rather than most of the other sushi places where it seems like they put more thoughts in making the place look nice rather than focus on the food. The workers are really honest when asked about recommendations. All in all, great place, great vibe, awesome food, and helpful workers.

I've been coming to this location for a long time. In fact, my first sushi experience was here, so it holds a special place in my heart. Prices are good, and the sushi is amazing. All-you-can-eat! My favorite rolls are the Tiger and the Las Vegas. Friendly service and clean restaurant. I haven't found better tasting sushi for the prices they have. Even though it's quite a drive from Anaheim, it's worth it!

THIS PLACE BLOWS MAJOR BUTTHOLE! We ordered (2)All you can eat, 1 small Asahi, 1Large Hot Sake Total was $59, which may fall under the average price range... Every single sushi we ordered fell apart! Way too much sauce, cream cheese in everything it tasted like. Here's the cherry on top: Boss lady mama-San is posted at the register, had a tissue on her finger and was using it picking her nose.............................................................................wait for it.................. Then walked straight to the sushi bar and picked up a plate of sushi with the same hand & walked it straight to a table full of hungry customers! 1ST AND LAST TIME EVER GOING TO THIS PLACE, Disgusting. Oh yea, also it is real loud in this place too. Not a great place to take a date. My husband and I have had better sushi from the grocery store.

  • Adrienne R.

What a shame this place isn't rated very high, I almost didn't come because of that - I would've missed out on this great sushi! I felt the rolls were very substantial, the sauce amount will depend on what roll you get, if you get one with a lot going on then it will fall apart easier :-P None of ours did. I fell in love with the mixed tempura, also a part of the all you can eat, because it came with a shrimp tempura - usually it's just mixed vegetables. I also liked the calamari, though it was so breaded it didn't taste like calamari anymore. Loved the miso soup! The nigiri: salmon, anago, red snapper, and salmon egg, were excellent, the octopus was watery, the tuna and squid were good/ok, but the yellow tail was unfortunately not good, I was disappointed because that's my favorite, but was not totally deterred haha. Surprisingly I enjoyed the rolls better, pretty much any with eel or shrimp tempura are great. We enjoyed this place a lot, I even liked the decorum, nice and clean, there's a TV. The waitress was ultra prompt. I'd say this place is good for dates at night. We showed up on a Saturday at 3pm, just in time to still be charged lunch pricing haha, which is apparently over around 3:30pm. On a Saturday afternoon there was maybe 3 other groups dining, so no worries about waiting, it's located in an unfortunate looking shopping center haha. I'll probably still come here from now on though, very glad we stumbled upon it. *For (2) ayce lunches it was about $40 @18.99/person

10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Okay, I don't even know where to start. After seeing the most recent reviews raving about this place, my boyfriend and I thought we would give it a try. I mean AYCE sushi sounds like a great way to end winter break, right? No, no, no. We actually ended up leaving with partially empty stomachs, not that we wanted to leave full from the sushi here. The oysters and mussels had shards of shells in it. If I didn't dispose the overly mayo-d shellfish from my mouth, my dentist would not be happy. The quality of the sushi was strange. Some of the fish tasted and looked old, while other pieces were nearly frozen. The rice was dry and particularly over-seasoned with rice vinegar. I didn't mind the rice to fish ratio, it wasn't bad. Unfortunately it was far from redemption. What irritated us the most was the service. 1 star because one of the servers actually tried, while the other server hid at any opportunity to do so. The first server seated us and took our first round of orders, he seemed drained as he was the only one to actually tend to everyone. Poor dude. We had to ask him for plates twice because they ran out of clean plates in the back. The second server walked by our table several times like MORE THAN SIX TIMES, however we were nonexistent to him. Mind you, there were only 3 other tables with customers around us. He somehow had the time and audacity to talk poo on the chef to a customer. That being said, we didn't get to order our second round until 15 minutes later AFTER my boyfriend had to call the badmouthing, distasteful, lazy worker over. The music choice that the restaurant played made me feel like I was waiting to die. Okay, I may be overly dramatic about the music... But they chose such sad songs that made me feel depressed and heartbroken while eating! I don't want to feel guilty eating, no. That's just weird. I had such high hopes for this place, but that immediately fell short.

Their sushi is so delish, I'm craving it right now. My fave is Philly Crunch, aloha and golden tiger. Very filling. Price is good for A-Y-C-E sushi. Clean place, attentive service. It's worth it, but come with a big appetite or when you're starving cuz their rolls are so good it makes you want to try almost all.

  • Elizabeth N.

I must admit, I am not an AYCE sushi fan because of the lack of quality ingredients. But if I am really hungry for large amounts of sushi, I come here. The place is like any other typical sushi restaurant; it has a sushi bar and a dining area. You can have AYCE in both sections. AYCE prices about about $25 per person. The cut rolls at Maru are not that great, so I usually don't order a lot of rolls. I usually order the salmon nigiri (it is my favorite). My boyfriend usually order over 10 orders of salmon nigiri. I would come here again if I was really hungry!

Price is great for the quality of food, especially all you can eat! So I've been coming to this place now for about 5 years+ now. Food is always amazing, great service, chill atmosphere. Their all you can eat menu is awesome, Las Vegas roll, baked green muscle, spider roll, avocado roll, these are just to start.... Sashimi is always there for just fish lovers, and they have a bunch of other choices for people who don't like sushi much. Definitely need to check this place out!

Im writing this review while driving to another place to find sushi. I came at 11.29 the waitress, a small little rude girl told me that the they're closed. So I asked her what time do they open she says 11.30. 1 minute early but ok so I wait outside then came in at 11.30 and asked r u open now!! a guy working there says let me the waitress, she came out give us the look again like why the f... are you guys here?? Really?? worst customer service ever , never come back.

I really wanted to try this place since I'm a mega fan of ayce sushi and good service. The reviews led me to believe such was possible here. We came mid-day for lunch and the place was half full. There was one person waiting before us which I thought was quite strange considering the place was far from being full. We politely waited to be seated at the bar, which had 7 seats available. There was one waiter scurrying around tying to clear tables that briefly acknowledged us then proceeded to tell us they weren't open yet and to wait just a moment. There was also another man there, presumably the owner, I wouldn't know because he never acknowledged once while we waited. After a bit of a wait we decided that the this place and all its shining reviews about the friendliness and good service here were completely bogus and proceeded to head to our go to ayce Jun's sushi down the street, where we know the people are friendly and accommodating. The food is also delicious here at Jun's, so if you're looking for a good ayce experience without having to wait to sit at the bar, head to Jun's. It's a shame I can't comment on the food quality at Maru but if the service is any indication then I'm better off. Just arrived at Jun's and with the same seating conditions I was seated by the chef instantly. Way to go Jun's, you're awesome! Boo Maru, you could learn a thing or two.

When we eat sushi this is the only place we go. It is pricey but worth it. You will definitely get your moneys worth. They seemed to have gotten rid of one of the waitresses and I really like the new employees. Quite an improvement. I believe all you can eat is $23.99 now. If you get at least 2 or 3 rolls you easily total that.

Good sushi place. Constantly updating their menu and posting new specials. The heavenly burrito roll is amazing. All you can eat rules.

Really bad experience. Hair was in my roll, he said "oh hair, ok" then walked away. Came back a couple minutes later and said they will remake it... Like duh they will remake it, your cooks hair was in it??? "Calamari" was three tempura style squid rings, similar to onion rings for 7.50. Check took 5 minutes to get then we ended up walking to the front to pay. Bad service, bad food, bad place overall. Will not return.

This is my go to sushi place. Me and my girl are super picky about where we go for sushi because we are picky with sushi. It's our favorite food and this place has the BEST crunch roll. That's about the only thing we order now 4 rolls of crunch and get go to town. Super local to me, usually pretty good service. Eating areas are clean and well kept. I recommend this place to everyone. I do eat other places but when I can I make sure I come here. Also to add their entries are pretty good as well. Nothing amazing but still good. But their crunch rolls are where it's at.

I've had this place bookmarked for a while now, but I've never had the chance to try until NYE when my friend, Michelle W., invited me to go. It's pretty easy to find - located in the shopping plaza with the Jon's Marketplace on Goldenwest, right before McFadden. The restaurant is pretty room, with a small sushi bar and lots of tables for bigger parties. You get two options - all you can eat or a la carte. Of course, Michelle and I went for AYCE - no shame. #Foreverfat. AYCE is about $18 for lunch and $22 for dinner. With the AYCE, you can order appetizers, sushi rolls, and nigiri sushi from a special list. It's pretty extensive. Definitely go for the specialty rolls because you'll definitely be getting your money's worth. The baked salmon, baby lobster, and dragon rolls were my fav. They're made to order, but you're limited to only two rolls per order. Still, we didn't have to wait long for our rolls either, so not a big deal. Service is really good. We sat right at the sushi bar and the sushi chef was so nice and funny! He cut up a bunch of salmon belly for us because he thought we were pretty. Haha. The salmon belly was bomb.com . The restaurant had music playing so he would sing along as he made the rolls as well. Our server was a real sweetheart as well - she was always coming by to see if we wanted refills or anything else. Definitely swing by if you're in the area and feeling gluttonous for AYCE sushi.

3 star on yelp!? what is this nonsense!! I've been coming here for years and with almost every visit I've been satisfied. Maybe once out of all the times I've visited did i have a crappy experience but what restaurant doesn't have an off day?? One thing i do notice though is that the sushi chef's are on the quieter side. Now this isn't a bad thing but I think they should compensate the quietness with music. Not too loud, not too quiet but just right. They have TV's everywhere so if there's a Laker game playing I wouldn't mind watching that instead of listening music. When it comes to AYCE sushi this is the spot for me. I'll venture out to other AYCE places just to try but Maru is almost always my first choice.

Love this place AYCE !!! Been coming here for over 4 years now !!! Best sushi, always fresh, clean place, nice service !!! They have a great deal; buy a large beer (Sapporo, Asahi, etc...) for $5.99 and every beer after after that is only $1 !!!

First of all I have to say that the staff is great and very attentive, plus friendly! Now the food is great. The rolls are very large (just FYI). The fish so far has been very fresh (we're from Hawai'i so we know fresh fish). I like it a lot because the prices are reasonable and the amount of food you get is amazing.

I came here with my boyfriend 30 minutes to closing and got the ayce deal. It is $25 a person and I didn't feel like it was really worth it. The fish quality wasn't all that great. Service was a little slow. The rolls were okay. I probably won't ever be comimg back though. 3 stars for making all those rolls for us even though it was 30 minutes to closing.

  • Young K.

I visited here on monday for my lunch. I dId the AYCE, and just found that they have new rolls, and so many items that I can order. The fish quality was also good, and the portion of the fish they put on the top of sushi and rolls were really relly good now. One thing, that I didn't like is the price of drink. Idk much about beer, but the soda and tea r quite expensive though. I guess all the AYCE restaurants have that kind of price for the drink. Lunch AYCE was $18.95, its about almost 2 regular rolls' price, so I think it's not that expensive. I had some tempura, chicken teriyaki for appetizer, and some sushi & 3rolls (one of them was 4pcs). I bet its over $35 that I ate, but who cares its AYCE!! only pay $18 and leave~

Awesome place! The sushi was made fast (albeit pre-rolled, but that's ok for AYCE), and the service was very friendly. The place was clean and I will definitely go again.

This is my 3rd time here and although I vowed never to come back, that was only expressed in the Yelp world. However, my friend convinced me that we should give it a go if we couldn't quite pinpoint why this place wasn't that good. Well, I can say that my experience this time around was much better than last. All of our orders came out correctly and quickly. I was hoping they would actually slow down a bit. Among the things that I enjoyed: gyoza, jammig roll... but outside of that, everything else was pretty average. If there is one gripe that I have about this place, it is that the rolls come out way more sweet than savory. When I eat sushi, I want it to be more on the savory side. Still, I can't gripe over my experience as much as I did before... I just know this isn't THE place to go to for all you can eat sushi.

  • Rachel R.

I would not have gone here just based on the reviews but some of my coworkers raved about it so I gave it a shot. It's a small place but plenty of wait staff. The all you can eat is $22.95. There are restrictions written out on the menu that kind of made me feel like they are looking to nickel and dime you. The restrictions were that you have 1.5 hours for all you can eat, each person can order 2 rolls per round, you get 3 rounds, they will charge for any not eaten food. So really it's not all you can eat, it's 6 rolls per person. We were full after 2 rounds so it wasn't a problem but I think if it's all you can eat then that's what it should be. My favorites were the baby lobster roll and the volcano roll. Next time I would double up on those and skip some of the others. The menu is NOT big at all and a lot of the yummy looking rolls are NOT in the all you can eat which is kind of lame. It hits the spot if you want shushi but it's not the best.

Worst experience ever! It was my 1st time ever walking out of a restaurant. We went in about 8:30pm got sat at a table about 8:45pm we ordered immediately since we had been moving our stuff all day (moved 2 FV) and we were starving. Our server was really nice (black plugs in his ears) he came and apologized several times for the wait while we were there. He said they were backed up on orders and I said it fine I thought no big deal it's a busy night. He came again and apologized & offered to bring some appetizers while we waited for our sushi and I said that would be great I told him bring whatever you can my friends haven't eating and I thanked him I really appreciated the gesture. We continue to wait and another party gets sat and they received food within 10 mins of being there and I thought really??? The table next to us kept complaining how full they were and they continued to bring them food though there previous food was still being worked on. Again here comes my server to apologize & I ask him why is it that a table that came after us is eating & it has been 40 mins and we still haven't gotten out food. To be fair he brought out 1 roll for someone at the 35 min mark but he didn't eat to be rude eating in front of us. The appetizers never came. At this point everyone was exhausted & upset so we decided to leave because our friends have get up at 4:15am to go to work (golf course) and we were still about an hour in a half away from old home. I wave my serve down & tell him I'm sorry but we're just going to go and he nods and keeps going with the sushi he's carrying. We get to our car & another server chased us down in the parking lot and asked if we were seated by the window & that we hadn't paid. Now I am angry but I kept it together & said I'm not going to pay if we never even got any food in 45 mins of being there and he said, oh you didn't shit I'm sorry." I am the one that is sorry I'm sorry I brought my friends to this place I hope this isn't the norm but I honestly don't want to figure out. I am never coming back here again thanks for humiliating me in the parking lot Maru Sushi

Such fantastic personable service at the bar top. The chef let us try seasonal blue fin tuns, all kind of hand rolls, and more than enough sushi to make me happy. And he talked to us about fish and just about anything under the sun. The quality of the fish is excellent. Every slice was succulent and amazing. The chef picks up all the fish in the morning himself. This is the best sushi restaurant I've been to in awhile.

Been going here for quite a few years now. They have had their ups and downs but their service and menu has really picked up in the last few months. Me and my friends always come here for the AYCE. We have tried a few other local places but they are never as good as Maru :D The staff has always been nice to us and everything is tasty. Do not be afraid to ask them if they have any specials as there are always a few rolls not on the AYCE menu :)

Some the worst sushi I've had in years.. This place has nothing to do with the Maru Sushi in Costa Mesa. The albacore roll and hot mermaid look absolutely nothing like their pictures on their menu. Which shows a usage of teriyaki sauce? but there was no such sauce. Those rolls would've been much more tolerable if they didn't use a hideous tasting mexican enchilada-type of sauce, which clashes with the seaweed. The chef put zero thought into the our rolls, and needs to give it more of a siricha base instead of an enchilada style base.

Better than average sushi for an okay price. AYCE is decent. Fresh sushi is good quality and the nigiri has a very good fish to rice ratio. Service is good and the waiters check up on you quite often. You can get much faster service by eating at the bar which I often do.

The bf and I have been coming to this particular sushi restaurant/bar for the past few years. Whenever we need our sushi fix and we're hungry, we tend to come over here. Parking's not too bad. Big general parking lot for the strip mall. Service has been pretty good for basically every time we've been there. Our drinks are filled regularly, we have our food in a pretty prompt manner, and they don't give us any trouble or any dirty looks when we have a big group of people come in. Prices are reasonable for the AYCE sushi. It's now 18.95 for lunch and $22.95 for dinner, which is just a one dollar increase that we've seen in the past 5-6 years (we didn't live in the area before that). So, just a one dollar increase in that length of time? Not too shabby. Now, the quality that used to be here was pretty okay. Not too bad, was always clean, and presentation was good. However, the last time we were here (which was just last weekend), the food was better than we've ever tasted. I don't know if we somehow came in right when their new shipments came in, or they're just now going for the higher quality sushi, but the sushi was AWESOME. My mouth watered every time I took another bite. And I wanted to keep on eating even though I was so full. The quality was just much better than they ever had, and I hope it's there to stay. In terms of what the bf and I enjoy, we normally go for the specialty rolls. I enjoy the rainbow (which has a number of different nigiri on the top of it), while the bf typically goes for the tempura eel specialty roll (the name escapes me). We always get the edamame, the miso soup, and the gyoza. For those who don't want an AYCE, they do have just regular menus that you can order from. However, I think the restaurant asks that everyone in the party orders the AYCE, instead of just only one or two people in a party of four.... Been issues with people being dishonest, I believe. Anyways, you have up to 1.5 hours to order the sushi, which I think is more than enough time. Great service, AWESOME food this last time we were there, and it's pretty much always clean when we come by. Will be visiting again like we normally do.

    - Locale Destination - It's in the shopping mall close to "JONS" (It looks like a "VONS" ripoff supermarket). It looks tiny from outside but they got tons of seating areas with TVs. The outside sign was kinda tiny and hard to spot. On the left side, there

My last review was written in high school, so I didn't know any better. Do not waste your $25 here. The service is very slow, and their food is horrendous. I know what REAL sushi is now. Every time I think about this place, I cringe. If you are looking to throw $25 to stuff yourself with shitty food, but at a very slow pace.. I guess this is the place for you.

Even if you can't eat raw fish, this place is still a great place to go. Its ayce sushi for two hours and it includes edamame, gyoza, salad, miso soup, etc. I love the chicken appetizer. It could be a meal with juat that as the main dish to eat with rice and miso soup. The salad was okay, a bit more sour/tangy than I'd like. Soda is bottomless, its included in the ayce.

decided to eat here on a whim. Not usually a fan of AYCE places, especially for sushi, but this place ended up being legit. We were seated right away and handed the menus. TVs were on and music was playing, good atmosphere. I feel like the waiter didn't give me enough room or thinking to myself. He was being a little pushy or hurrying me along, which I CANT STAND. We ended up ordered the AYCE lunch for $18.95. ordered the miso soup, eggs rolls and edamame to start with, all were great! The jalapeños, Rose, dynamite and a few other rolls we were really good. worth the money and will come back again.

Awesome!! We had the AYCE lunch. Everything was fantastic. Especially good was the tempura. Nice and light with a great presentation. Service was nice and attentive. I highly recommend Maru for a casual sushi experience.

One of the best places for AYCE sushi in my opinion, you get oysters for dinner, but there is unlimited muscles! Most of their sushi/sashimi on their AYCE menu is pretty good!

I had a pleasant experience when I came with some friends. We call ordered the lunch specials. Great deal I think. $6.99 for miso soup, cali hand roll, one salmon sushi, one albaco sushi, 4 pieces of the spicy tuna roll and 4 pieces of the cruch roll. I will definately be back. I was hoping tomorrow. =D

While this isn't the best sushi out there (meaning - it's not gourmet/fancy), it's definitely the best bang for your buck. The AYCE menu is extensive, delicious, and they don't fill you up on rice. The bf and I go here at least once a month, when we want A LOT of sushi. Our faves are the firecracker roll, jalapeno, spicy tuna tempura roll, and of course a full plate of nigiri orders. Their mixed tempura and gyozas are also amazing. They have a great happy hour deal too - buy one $5 large beer, and the 2nd is $1. Definitely worth a try!

Disappointing once again. 35 minutes to bring your first sushi roll out. No tip & not coming back here ever again. These employee's do not value their customers.

They upped their prices and the quality has gone down. That is the absolute worst thing you can do in a restaurant. The service has still not improved which is disappointing! Sorry to say that I won't be coming back to this AYCE sushi joint...

Maru Sushi have pretty good selection of sushi for a fair price. Not only that but you can choose appetizers like Teriyaki Chicken, some Gyozas, and soup. I recommend mostly the Lobster Roll, but everything on their menu would be recommended. Make sure you finish your sushi or they charge you :). The people who work there are really friendly as well.

My wife and I found ourselves in Westminster on a motorcycle ride last week and hungry for sushi at lunchtime. Based on the. (mostly) good reviews on Yelp, we found our way to Maru Sushi. We love sushi and don't mind an AYCE as long as the fish is fresh, the portions are ample, the chefs are personable, the selection is broad and the establishment does not smell fishy. Maru met all the criteria and exceeded our expectations. Although nestled in a strip mall next to a medical clinic, once seated at the bar, we forgot all else. Our chef prepared our orders flawlessly and treated us to some toro as he prepared a slab for serving. We will be back in the future.

all you can eat sushi that is not served on a little train set or in a buffet is hard to find... quality all you can eat sushi is even harder. there is a 90min time limit, but most people will find it hard pressed to pound sushi for 90min... the service is great, and like i said, they prepare it to order. you order your all you can eat stuff from the list. the fish is fresh, the selection is very respectable. you are not going find toro on the list... but i believe uni and white tuna is. most importantly, they don't give you a bucket of rice with each order, so you don't go home feeling like a rice barrel. the special rolls are good as well, but if there is sushi, why would you order rolls? beer, tv, miso soup, salad with citrus/ginger dressing and all other normal amenities you find at a japanese restaurant is there... just not the high prices. happy sushi.

  • Erika G.

More like 3.5 stars. I actually liked this little place. I thought the service was friendly and attentive. They did forget things here and there...it makes me wonder how it is during a busy hour. I thought the food was ok. The rolls had a bit more rice with a sliver of fish. I liked that they had hot food items on the AYCE. Ultimately, I decided that nigiri sushi was the way to go...even if the Albacore seemed a little tough and dry.

The bf and I have been here twice for lunch. We did the All You Can Eat for an unbeatable price of $17.95. I really like this place because the sushi and rolls are not that big. That way, we're about to try a good amount of food. Normally at another AYCE places, the bf and I can only take on 3 rolls and a couple sushis. On top of that, we also ordered some appetizers. we enjoyed the- Fresh water Eel sushi salmon sushi whie tail sushi crunch roll alaskan roll some roll with lobster on top...i forgot the name crispy tail - however, i wouldnt recommend ordering that towards the end of the meal. it's deep fried, inside with white tail and cream cheese... the texture of it is not good with an almost-full stomach. miso soup was delicious mixed tempura was good the service was great. soo... i totally recommend this place when you want good sushi.

  • Vincent D.

Compared to an all you can eat place like todai, this place is thousands of times better. Its almost half as cheap and you can ask the sushi chef what you want. During lunch if you eat 5 orders of rolls, then you have eaten your money's worth. oh yea and there isn't as much rice as everyone is saying there is. so... like chow yun fat said in some old movie..."eat the fucken rice" ok wait, i went back here again and sat at the dining tables and the sushi was seriously bad. so i suggest going to the sushi bar only. if you eat at the tables your gonna have a bad time.

  • Rachel L.

I have four words to describe this: ALL YOU CAN EAT. That's right, they have an all you can eat menu and once you order stuff from it you will definitely be stuffing your face with sushi like never before. I never knew it was humanly possible for my stomach to store so much delicious sushi until I came to Maru Sushi and damnnnn was it worth it. From that point on, I've pretty much taken every person I know to eat there and they've enjoyed it just as much as I have. Some of the things they have on their menu include caterpillar roll, dragon roll, hot mermaid, dynamite, philadelphia roll, crunch roll, spider roll, alaskan roll, etc. You can go there and know that the food is both fresh and tastes soooooooooooooooo good.

Did a little yelp search and found this little gem. Their AYCE dinner had most of our favorites and came in at a reasonable price. The fire roll was fantastic, they say that they only have it as chef's special once per month. I enjoyed this place, pretty dang good for AYCE sushi.

  • Andy B.

Nothing fishy about this sushi place. It's a really good value. The AYCE lunch price $18.95 per person. Last year it was $17.95. The 4 stars are in large part for the good value. Good price for good food. I've been here about 4 times over the past year. Each time I've had a good experience. It's actually a good little place. I haven't noticed any problem with the quality of the food. Look, it's an AYCE eat place in a strip mall in Westminster; I don't have unrealistic expectations when I go to a place like this. My only real hope is that it's not bad. Maru Sushi isn't bad at all. I will continue to go to this place when I'm in the mood for AYCE sushi. The AYCE menu has a lot of great choices and a variety of different options. It's fun to go with others and try a mix and match of the choices. Just order a bunch of rolls and other pieces and have fun trying a little of everything. This is the type of place you go to grab something decent to eat without dropping a ton of money. If you are looking for a high end sushi experience then this isn't the place for you. Honestly, you should not be going to an AYCE place in a strip mall in Westminster if that's what you want. My most recent visit was two days ago. Our waitress was very friendly and helpful. The food was good and the price was more than fair for the amount of sushi we enjoyed.

I've been a loyal customer here for over a year now. It seems to be that they have improved service and quality of the food. Service can be slow at times if busy, so I recommend sitting at the bar. The sushi chefs do a good job, but Torrance (the taller buff sushi chef) does the best. Some of my favorite rolls to get are Dragon, Jammig, Spider and Salmon Skin. Their daily special is always a creative treat. I try to stay away from the baked rolls since it seems to be over cooked and burnt rice. Overall, I enjoy the friendly atmosphere and you can't go wrong with all you can eat for $20!!

Disclaimer: I am not a sushi eater. Why did I come here you might ask? I have friends that love it. I ordered the Maru Dinner Special which came with chicken teriyaki, miso soup, salad, "fruit" (which was an orange wedge), and a crunchy roll. The chicken was tasty and not dry (dark meat). I was quite surprised that the crunch roll was huge! These dinner specials usually come with a few pieces of a roll, but this meal deal came with a full order of the crunchy roll. I am not a fan of the salad dressing (think citrus/gingery dressing). Overall, a very good deal for only 8.95. My friend got the AYCE sushi and thoroughly enjoyed himself and ate to his heart's content. It was pretty empty for a Friday night. The place is clean and there's a bar area where you can watch the sushi chefs do their magic. Service was good and they were extremely attentive. I wouldn't mind coming back.

Originally found out about this place because it is in the same plaza as the office I work in. Just a minute's walk away and I'm there. So why not support our local businesses and give them a try! My office mates have been going here for their lunch specials pretty often the last few weeks. Haven't disappointed so far. We usually get the Special B and Special C. And the sushi is very good. Soft and tender in your mouth and not too overwhelming with their season/flavoring. I could only judge on their to-go food since we usually take the food back to the office to eat while we work. Next time we'll have to sit down in their restaurant and try the sushi bar! But every time I've come to order to-go, the staff has been really accommodating and even helped me carry a large order back to the office!

My group found this place via yelp and it was well well worth it. We were celebrating our friend's birthday. Our server Angela was literally the best server I have ever had. She was fun, energetic, she joked around with us and gave us great suggestions. They also played really cool birthday music and gave us this really good dessert. Aside from the service....the food is phenomenal, my personal favorite is the Philadelphia roll fried in tempura! Anyways, I highly recommend this place!!!! I will definitely be returning.

I came here with my friends tonight to celebrate a birthday, and I can truthfully say that the service was some of the best I've ever received. The food was good, but our waitress Angela was outstanding. She connected with us, cracked jokes, debated the pronunciation of "calamari" with me, and made our night all the more entertaining. I would definitely recommend this restaurant. Great food, exceptional service!

Come here for AYCE deal, not for a regular lunch/dinner meal. I've eaten here a few times in the past and I'd have to say my only great experience was when I opted to do their AYCE. The rolls come out quite quickly and every roll I ordered was super delicious. I especially enjoyed all of the "fried" rolls. I know, that was an unhealthy time in my life. :P Now, I've also dined here for lunch and a regular dinner and I would have to say the food AND service isn't as great. It takes them forever to bring out just your drinks and little appetizers and their standard spicy tuna or California rolls were pretty blahhh. I've been to many sushi spots since then, and I'd have to say this one is a miss unless you can't find any other AYCE sushi restaurants in the area, then feel free to hit it up with your chopsticks in hand!

Came here for Ayce on a Monday night. with a group of friends. Worst decision... -it took almost 30mins for our sushi to come out each time. -The rice was dry and gross... -One roll had so much sauce on it, I didn't even taste the fish! -The people around us was getting mad for the wait also.. I noticed one guy had to get up and pay for his dinner at the front. It seriously felt like they were going fishing and then finally serving us....(not saying that the fish was super fresh though.) I've been here many times before, but this time seemed to leave a bad taste in my mouth. I won't be coming back..

We got the AYCE. On a weekend dinner, it is $5 cheaper than Todai. This Korean owned AYCE is decent. It has an okay atmosphere, with decent service, and Korean pop playing in the background. The AYCE lets you order 2 specialty rolls per person per round, but they let us stay way past the hour and a half time limit, because it wasn't busy. The dynamite and other baked rolls are really bland. They don't have a kick to them, like the ones I usually get. They just seem to be topped with watered down mayo. The fish was pretty fresh tasting. This is probably why I bumped it up to 4 stars, instead of 3. The eel was really soft, and very tasty compared to most sushi buffets I've tried. Other than that, the fish and rolls tasted pretty standard. The edamane is lightly salted. The mussels have a decent amount of creamy sauce. The gyoza is heavily fried in oil. The skin is completely drenched. I thought it was gross, but my bf seemed to really enjoy it.

I really enjoyed my first visit here ... I came for dinner and everything was great ... I didn't really enjoy the muscles but I didn't want to dock a point for that cuz everything else was bomb lol... Spinach albacore :) and I loved the ayce variety ... Will be coming back

The all you can eat deal is great you can order the entire menu as part of all you can eat. The sushi selections are decent and the drinks are free refills not like Joe's which charge by the can. They always have sports in the TVs and music playing. One if the good priced sushi joints in the North OC HB area. I would give it a 5 if the sushi selection was a larger and the drink refills were quicker and they only have Pepsi for a cola option not Coke...

I'm not a huge expert on AYCE sushi. In fact, I've only had Cal Beach in Newport Beach which is pretty bad. I still can't forget the nasty spicy tuna hand roll I had to take back... Yuck. Anyway, I liked the rolls here, but they all tasted the same. Don't come here for the nigiri. I tried the tuna, salmon, hamachi, tamago, and eel nigiri, but none of them were that good. It kind of just tasted like defrosted fish. The texture was off. I'm not complaining though, because what else can you expect from AYCE? I think between my boyfriend and me, we had 7 rolls, 12 orders for nigiri, tempura, gyoza, oh my! I was stuffed. I'm so glad the waitress asked if we were sure we wanted the last few rolls because she explained that in her experience it'll be too much and she didn't want to charge for leftovers. That was nice of her. She had a funny accent and my boyfriend guessed that she's probably Korean but is trying to sound Japanese. He was totally spot on because all the staff were speaking in Korean. Honestly, one roll didn't stand out over the other. They all tasted the same. I did enjoy myself, but it's not worthy of another star imo. I'd come back if I was craving a buttload of rolls!

    (3)
  • Enrique S.

Wasn't sure what to expect, since I've had bad experiences with all you can eat sushi places. White tuna and salmon nigiri melted in your mouth like butter. Green mussels were delicious, as were all the rolls I tried.

I love this place! I have seen them go through quite a few chefs. Overall they are friendly and offer quick service when sitting at the sushi bar. Try the baby lobster roll! It's an absolute favorite of mine. Also their spicy tuna is definitely different than any other sushi joints I've been to. I can't find any other place that compares to Maru's.

90minutes limit for AYCE, very odd location, everything is dead around it 90mins is more than you think, im usually done in 60 pros: -very clean and friendly service -they prepare to order - not buffet style -great apps + hand rolls -very good/nice selection of desserts -awesome iced green tea -lunch time is a great deal cons: -2 special roll limit per order at a time -the rice on the nigiri has way too much vinegar -salad, it has very bitter orange/citrus shavings as a dressing -i'm surprised bxc all the reviews were preparing me to me sick of the rice, they don't pack on the rice, but it was the large amount of crab meat that kills me. maybe there was too much mayo in their crabmeat? overall, ill come back, but you cannot do this place too often, once a month or once every 2-3months is okay, but this place is mos def a plus on my list

I have to admit the reviews scared me. We came on a friday night for an AYCE sushi dinner. For it being a friday night the place was pretty much empty minus a few small tables. The price is not bad, pretty decent for AYCE sushi, however the place has way too many restrictions. Only 2 rolls/person per round, and only 3 rounds. The selection was limited, although there were a couple delicious rolls. We were constantly teased by the prospect of amazing rolls only to find out they were not offered during AYCE. We were also taken aback by the $1 a piece charge they threaten for leftover sushi. Well when you ask for our next order well before we've eaten our current one, we might just get full! Next time we are craving sushi, I'd much rather make the drive to La Habra for Joe's Sushi or visit Chomp on a thursday! My opinion: skip!

Completely average sushi experience in every aspect. Maru does seem to cater to a budget-minded lunch crowd with AYCE deals. My one experience at this place suggests that it was not a bad choice for standard sushi and rolls. My ultimate test of sashimi salad however yielded disappointment; this is the kind of place that serves it on a bed of iceberg lettuce with carrot shavings-just open a bag from the grocery and dump it on a plate. Thanks but no thanks. I might come back if it's convenient for a lunch deal some day.

After my very disappointing experience on my return to Kin Sushi yelp.com/biz/kin-sushi-a… - I was very reluctant to come to an AYCE sushi place again that serves your sushi in this manner. As a very loyal Todai customer without a feeling of betrayal, I was again swayed by some of the reviews and decided I'd give this type of sushi service another chance. Hoping of course that my first experience would not be a 5 star experience and then go back and experience a Kin Sushi let down. ====================================================== My Nigiri Sushi order (all come with 2 pieces): Tuna Salmon Yellow Tail Red Snapper Albacore Red Clam Spicy Tuna Mackerel Salmon Roe Scallop Smelt Egg Hand Roll: Spicy Tuna Scallop Salmon Skin Cut Rolls (8 pieces): Baby Lobster Crunch Spider (filled with Red Crab, Salmon and Avocado with a crunchy glaze and Caramel sauce) PROS: Excellent food, fresh, full of flavor, quick service and quick to replenish your ginger and wassabi. CONS: 1 & 1/2 hour time limit for eating, each individual is limited to 2 rolls per order, any left overs (including steamed rice) will be charged, no sharing with A La Carte CUSTOMERS and for tables only, all you can eat orders must be ordered by each individual. No Seaweed or other assorted vegetable sides and hot entrees or desserts are separate too. Price: $24.52 tip & tax and for the same price I could have gotten as many rolls as I wanted, Crab legs, a wider selection of Nigiri, hot entrees, desserts and NO time limit at Todai. This sushi resturaunt is the worst restraunt in the world. They dont let you share with other people when they get the all you can eat deal. When I shared my dish I thought I was going to get tackled to the ground. Another thing is that the waitress is always staring at you an it gets very intense. I dont know how the county allow this rule and how could they allow there stupid rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. And also If you dont finish all your sushi roll when you get the all you can eat deal they charge you for the whole roll. SO I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TO GO TO THIS RESTAURANT!!

I don't even have a yelp account but created one so I can add a review for this place. Service was horrible. Went to this AYCE sushi place with the family and the waitress made us feel UNCOMFORTABLE multiple times about ordering more. Will NOT be back.

Came here with my friend on a Monday night, were told it would be 5-10 min to be seated. After waiting for almost 30 min we sat at the bar. For the price, it's ok sushi, rolls etc.. Not everything on the menu is part of the AYCE.. Probably wont be coming back.

Definitely a fan of MARU. I always get the ALL YOU CAN EAT. It's worth it! $18 I think for lunch and $23 for dinner. You can get endless variety of sushi as well as salad, rice, edamame, etc. Just ask. I love going here. I try to go at least once or twice a month. Big fan. Keep it up Maru.

Alright, I'm going to call it as it is. Walked in and knew I was in trouble when I saw a Mexican chef. There was another asian chef also, so I decided to give it a try. Told the waitress and chef, "Omakase" they both looked at me confused, found out they were korean. If you going to run a sushi joint at least learn a couple Japanese words. They didn't offer omakase, so I ordered a couple piece of sushi. They have very limited fish, no blue fin, no toro. Mexican guy made my sushi, he put 2 piece of fish on a piece of rice. The 2 pieces were place on the side top of the rice so it slips off when trying to pick it up. Get some proper sushi training, the fish was dry and nasty tasting, they must buy low end fish to keep cost down. The sushi bar area is all dirty looking, they need to paint the walls around the bar.

Delicious! For an AYCE sushi, this place is awesome. $23:95 yum yum. Great rolls...semi-fresh fish(? :(. )...this place is better than some others but not great by any means. Come here if you're on a budget, cuz it'll satisfy...but obviously go elsewhere otherwise. AYCE-wise it's the "best" in the area...but I would definitely always go to NIYAS AYCE if it was available...but that's a whole 'nother story.

Came here on a Saturday night and it was empty, not the best sign when you trying something new. The service was good, the waitress were nice and the device was good. The food is alright, for the rolls thy don't contain a lot of sauce ( good cause it doesn't make you super full) the only thing to watch out for are deep fried rolls they will fill you up quick. The thing I like best here were the baked muscle, they where delicious! The price is around the same as other AYCE sushi places. Overall Maru is a good place I probably will return.

I ABSOLUTELY HATE THIS PLACE! DOWNRIGHT HORRID! Okay I give it some props for having good quality sushi for an AYCE place (which explains the one star... and also because I can't give them anything lower than that), BUT their service SUCKS! I came in to eat with a group of my friends at exactly 7:30pm and I left the place at 9:30! WTF?! We ordered a sufficient amount of sushi and NEVER got most of them because the service was soooooo slllloooowwww! i mean seriously?! 2 hours?! I wasn't full by the food that I ate but rather by the amount of water i drank because of their lag time. I mean they literally brought one roll for 6 people every 30 minutes...that is ridiculous!!! My tip for you, if you want to eat at a ayce place, go to Sushi Wave down Newport Beach. They have a lot more variety and they sure as hell do not take 2 hours to feed you 4 rolls of sushi!

We were the only ones here and my friends and I had the all you can eat lunch. Most of the rolls were just okay... the best one we had was the baked salmon. The miso soup was good. Nothing really memorable about this establishment except that our waitress was very nice and she filled our waters promptly. I would be upset if she didn't since we were the only customers in the restaurant. I do have to mention that we got our food pretty quickly so that is a plus! Overall... the quality and taste of the food was average. Nothing I would ever go back for.

I was craving for some sushi inbetween my break at CSULB and GWC. I have the Yelp application for my Palm Pre and searched for "sushi" around "my current location" and Maru Sushi appeared. I recognize this place because I always pass by it on my way to the 405 N. This place is very cozy. It is Japanese decorated and they have many flat screen televisions hung up. I love how their specialty rolls are displayed as pictures on the menu, which is more appetizing. The price is affordable, but the sushi rolls are a bit on the small side. I've experienced Japanese restaurants with larger sushi rolls, so that was a bit disappointing. My favorite is the Hot Kiss roll! Yum! The waitress was very attentive and always refilled the drinks. Overall, I would come back just because it's close to GWC.

This place is actually pretty good. The service is friendly and the food is good. I love the AYCE here because it's actually cheaper than some of the more popular places. The servers have always accommodated my needs each time I went here, so that made a loyal customer out of me. It's not high end sushi, like the other reviewers have mentioned, but it's a great experience for what you're paying for. Great selection of sushi and rolls - my favorite is the Jammig roll. Yum! Everybody I've been with loves the baby lobster roll here, too. I'm also in love with the baked mussels there.

Update* 8/30/2012 I probably come here at least once or twice a month now. Their food and sushi chefs are muuuuch better! The wait between rolls takes a little time especially if it is busy which is understandable. The chefs make up for it by giving me something new to try out. Bumped up to 4 stars BUT service will bump it down one star. Last time I went I felt like the waitress was completely oblivious of my existence. Don't know what she was on that day but it took forever to get her attention to fill up my water and even longer to get my check. The chef had to call her over like 3 times wtf? Anyways, 4 stars for the awesome sushi chefs and 2 star for daydreaming waitress.

It's got the average appearance & taste of the typical sushi bar around Orange County. Honestly, I can't really taste too much difference when I try "well-reviewed" sushi places & "poorly-reviewed" ones. There are really only a few Sushi Restaurants that I would give 5 stars too, and their sushi is incomparable. Food: 7/10 Tasty & filling! My favorites: Philly Crunch Roll (I love the cream cheese...some don't like it) Jamming Roll (another with the cream cheese!) Las Vegas Spicy Tuna Spider Crunch (probably my most ordered roll!) They don't really add a special flavor to their rolls. Most of them taste the same as any other sushi place's rolls. Same ingredients, same prep, slightly different presentation. Nonetheless, I am never disappointed with the taste. I keep coming back for more. Pricing: 6/10 It's overpriced. This is my only complaint. I feel like I should've gotten more bang for my buck. It's not that I leave unhappy, I just always wonder why it's so expensive. Service: 8/10 Friendly & polite! They remember you too! They make an effort to welcome you when you walk in. When it's busy, it's a little harder for them to be as inviting, however. I've always come around lunch time when it's not too crowded. They are on top of bringing my food within 10 minutes. They are attentive & friendly. If you go often, they remember you and seat you quickly, AND they will usually bring you a complimentary dish, the "Chef's Special." This is a great way to keep customers happy if the cooks are jammed with orders. They know the menu too, & they don't get impatient if you choose to ask a lot of questions (my friend came and asked which rolls were better and what was in them--the waitress just kept answering the questions instead of pointing to the menu). Ambiance: 7/10 It's loungy, but don't care for the music sometimes. It would be better if they didn't play the Japanese pop music so loud. It gets stuck in your head, and honestly, I sometimes leave with a headache. If I can go with a good number of friends, the conversation will drown out the music. I'd recommend this place if I wanted sushi quickly and locally. The location isn't that great (in a strip mall next to a hair salon). But I'd be more likely to try a better sushi place for the price.

1 hour wait for 4 rolls of sushi. They were rude about it when we asked why it was taking so long. Never ever going back! I was insulted and the rolls were made very poorly! I wish I could rate -1 star.

ALL YOU CAN EAT for a time limit of an hour and 30min. $22/person dinner. Majority of the rolls are offered as well as some appetizers are all included in this price. Drinks are excluded but even then, they are normally discounted. 5 Hot kiss rolls + 3 baby lobster rolls + 1 rainbow + 2 jammig rolls + 1 firecracker roll + 4 orders of eel sushi + 2 orders of tuna sushi + 2 orders of albacore + 4 orders of gyoza + 2 miso soup + 1 salad + 1 edamame + 5 people + 4 sakes + 3 beers = $ 156 ...I think there were more food but I can't remember because I must have passed out right after.
