Can't believe I haven't reviewed Yoshi's until now! After discovering it a couple of years ago (thanks to Yelp), it has become my favorite place to grab relatively cheap, always fresh and delicious sushi. Although it's located on one of the busier stretches of Santa Monica Blvd/West Hollywood, it's pretty easy to find street parking if you're willing to circle a bit. They take reservations, but I have never had a problem getting seated right away when as a walk-in. Grab a seat at the bar or pick a table and the staff will quickly come over with hand wipes and yummy tsunomono (cucumber salad). There has been nothing I've tried there that wasn't awesome, but they really stand out when it comes to their no frills, basic sushi (as opposed to decadent, fancy rolls). Sometimes a friend of mine and I will go and order 6-8 ORDERS (12-16 pieces) of albacore sushi because it is that good. From there it's usually an assortment - red snapper, scallop, yellowtail, salmon. The sushi starts at $5 and goes up from there - totally reasonable. The only non-traditional dish I will sometimes order is the spicy tuna on crispy rice ($6.95). Their spicy tuna has a serious kick to it, and it's light because there's no mayo to be found in their recipe. So good. Their menu seems to have changed a bit as of late and I didn't see udon listed on my most recent visit. It's too bad because they did a great job with that dish. Not sure if I just missed it - didn't ask because we ordered so much other stuff we didn't need it. The yellowtail collar and the sweet shrimp sushi we ended up getting (in addition to a mountain of albacore of course) were excellent. On another note, Yoshi's is home to the most consistently spicy shishito peppers I have ever encountered in my life. Not sure how this is possible given the nature of the shishito and how only something like 1 in 10 is supposed to be actually spicy, but caution to you if you're anticipating your everyday mild shishitos. Like all sushi restaurants, you can rack up a pretty hefty tab here. At the same time, I've had bills that only came to $40ish total for two people. If you're savvy, you can eat on the cheap and still leave feeling full. Conversely, you can stuff your face and not feel like you're going to explode afterwards if you choose to go that route. Gotta love a place that allows for options.

Yoshi's is a place I've been coming with family for several years, and I've always been pleased with my meal and the service! It's not a big place so you will generally feel like you are getting family service when you're there. The owners are almost always working and doing everything from being the sushi chef to the host to the waitress! Besides having good quality traditional sushi, I think that the Yuki Roll is a great creation with very unique flavors and presentation. I really like mint leaf. The grilled sea bass is also great! I believe it's marinated in miso and it's always tender and delicious! Check out yoshi's!

What an underrated place. Great sushi. I'm mean really good and unique flavors while keeping it familiar. Reasonable prices especially for the alcohol. Really amazing tempura ice cream. All in all its worth a 20 minute drive for me.

Great quality sushi! I stumbled across Yoshi sushi on my way home from the gym and decided to give it a try, soooo glad I did! I ordered albacore and salmon sashimi with a side of seaweed salad. Everything was delicious. The sashimi is so fresh and just melts in your mouth! I can't wait to go back!!

Great to find another cheap neighborhood joint in the area. The fish was relatively good, though not astounding. We got: - Albacore nigiri ($5.75) - albacore was fresh as other users have mentioned - Jewelry mine ($12.50) - this roll was PACKED full of fish (no rice) and wrapped in soy paper. Probably one of the better deals on the menu for the amount of fish you get. - SCSS ($5.75) - your middle of the road maki roll. The best part of this roll was the price - again, a great value given the amount of fish:rice ratio. Whole meal for 2 came out to about $40 including apps and sushi - not bad at all for a sushi dinner. TL;DR - Hole-in the wall neighborhood sushi joint great for a casual Sunday night dinner or takeout that is most notable for the value of sushi, though for high-quality fish in the area I prefer Ajisai.

Possibly the best Sushi, and most authentic I have tried. The eel was powerful with flavor, but only lightly seasoned, and the yellowtail belly shashimi was exquisitely fresh and very high quality(I believe it was their fresh caught option, I noticed on their special board after I ordered). Now, what I loved most was the complexity of simple flavors on the Yuki roll. The plum reduction they used came across with a balance of sweet and savory, paired well with the white fish. As you finish chewing, the japanese mint comes into play and rounds out the experience with a fresh lightness. I want to take this shop home with me, just sayin'.

The ambiance is slightly little lack lustered (but the painting of the cats running a sushi restaurant always makes me smile), but food and service is really nice. I loved the fried tofu. The sushi is well prepared. I also really enjoyed the spicy salmon hand roll. What I love the most there is that not a single piece of dish ware they served me with (e.g. traditional soup spoon or bowl for miso soup) was made out of plastic.

What an awesome find in my neighborhood! The sushi here is quite good. Everything I've had both times I've been here has been wonderfully fresh and delicious. The service is awesome, very friendly and super quick. The sushi chefs are all excellent. The place itself is on the small side, but the sushi bar is long and they have about 10 tables that fill up quickly. Saturday is a good night to come. Free house sake with the purchase of every beer. I especially like the miso cod, so check it out. The prices blew me away. BF and I drop at least $200 + every time we go out for sushi and the bill was half of that at Yoshi for the same great quality we get at other 5 star places. I'm a fan. The décor isn't much to look at, but it doesn't bother me. This is a casual neighborhood joint worth visiting.

Really enjoyed all the sushi we got here. And we got a lot! The Nigiri is amazing. My favorite was probably the albacore. The rolls were great too, but just the simple nigiri is where they shine. Would definitely recommend.

It's not in the realm of my favorite sushi joints, but it's pretty great for the West Hollywood area. For what it is and its prices, I'd say it's worth going to this place regularly if you live nearby. I dig their $1 sake special. By the end of the night, we realized that we had spent 3 hours at the sushi bar and had about 9 sake pitchers. This is what happens though when you have good food and great company. Our bill though came out to roughly $240 with tip though... We only had nigiri and no rolls. For the same price, I know better places, but honestly, this is a mom and pop restaurant with such awesome service and such a friendly staff. You feel very comfortable and homely here. I'm pretty sure we got real loud, but nobody seemed to mind as long as we were having a great time.

I lived in Tokyo for 3 years so I'd like to think I know a bit about the authenticity of a true Japanese sushi bar & this place is it! They speak Japanese, are very gracious, & humble. Their sushi is so innovative, fresh, intriguing and reminds me of the local joints I frequented downtown Tokyo years ago. It's bare bones, but very comfortable, as the attention is put on service and quality of ingredients. Now, I just need to walk 4 blocks to be transported back to Japan! Without a doubt, I will bring all of my friends & family back to Yoshi's to treat them to the real thing.

Yoshi's is kind of just okay all around. Not sure why it has 4 stars, it's 3.5 at best and there's better places at the same price point in the same area (Omi, Ajisai, Jinpachi, etc). Small, kind of divey place, but I liked that about it when I walked in and thought that maybe we'd discovered a hidden gem. Not really. The sushi was good not great, which would be okay if they had a lower price point since you don't always want to spend $100 on sushi, but, well, we spent $100. If you're looking for better sushi at a lower price point, try Sushi Time on Beverly. They definitely cater to a less sophisticated crowd, with things like sake bomb specials. I probably would have liked this place more when I was younger.

Had a family gathering here ... amazing sushi. Fantastic service. Very reasonable pricing. The ambiance... meh. Its a hole-in-the-wall type of a place, so you shouldnt be expecting a grand experience, but still, a little TLC could be applied to the space. Will definiely be going back, and highly recommend checking it out if you want to get down with good sushi.

This is a small place. Not recommended for big parties. Definitely sit at the bar if you can because you get immediately fed. Ha ha!!! I knocked off one star because the service definitely could have been better. I had ordered dumplings and it took forever. For first timers, I definitely recommend the dragon roll. You cannot leave there without getting at least one!!! My sister got gyoza and tofu. The gyoza was good but its nothing extraordinary unlike the tofu. Soft and chewy served drowned in soy sauce. The sou sauce is not heavy at all!!!

Yoshi's is my neighborhood go-to sushi spot and I couldn't be happier to have it so close to me! The Jewelry Mine roll is a great and is always my first choice.. I recommend it with regular shrimp and not the tempura. Other notables are the halibut fin sushi, rainbow roll, and the shishito peppers (I like to think I'm a purveyor of those because I don't eat edamame). The owners and staff are the sweetest, always pleasant and happy! Heart you, Yoshi!

We discovered this little hole in the wall in October and came back on Christmas Eve because it was so delicious. A narrow spot on a busy street, you might not notice it at first but it's worth seeking out. Very fresh fish (we had the usual suspects: tuna, salmon, yellowtail and mackerel sushi, a couple of rolls and a special caterpillar roll which was super cute and tasty) and a good shrimp shumai appetizer. My husband liked the shumai more than I. Service was attentive and friendly, prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere was comfortable. We will definitely return.

Giving this place the mediocre star rating because of one of the staff... It's a cool little joint we ran into off Santa Monica Blvd while exploring; very cool and hip location. My problem with the place was the bitchy attitude I encountered with one of the staff.....why? As we walked by, we noticed SEVERAL, CLEAR AS DAY signs all in bold lettering proclaiming "ALL DRINKS 1/2 PRICE!!!" (That is what enticed us to go in there...) We we figured we'd go in and get a few large sakis to add to the fun in walking around SM Blvd. The server was nice and everything was fine until one of the sushi chefs behind the counter bluntly and rudely told us we couldn't get the drink special without ordering food. We ordered Edamame so it ended up fine. Said edamame was just average, no better than the frozen stuff. I later asked him if they ever had any sushi specials, and he was rude with me there as well. He also was sort of "grilling us" and looking over as we were sitting there, as if he didn't want us there. If you're pissed people are drinking for cheap, get rid of the specials, or at least don't advertise drink specials basically used car lot style to entice people to come in. As someone who's spent years in the service industry I can tell you that's not how you treat customers, especially when the damn place basically tricks you to get you in the door with the signs. We still got the drink special with only ordering something that cost $4, so, you can get wasted off saki here for cheap. They even have Tuesday and Wednesday $2 large sakis. I plan to go back and just order a sushi roll (or more edamame lol) and drink tons of the stuff. Everything else was good, however. Nice staff other than the one guy, cool atmosphere, and the saki was excellent. Piping hot and tasted stronger than the stuff I used to drink back East. My problem is that they basically used false advertising about a drink special and then got bitchy when we came in to take them up on it. We are not cheapskate "one of those kinds" of people, either. We tipped the server 30% on the ORIGINAL amount of what the check would have been and went on our way. I will still go back for sure to drink saki for cheap but I hope I never encounter that extremely rude and unprofessional individual again.

Yoshi sushi is my favorite neighborhood restaurant! They have that perfect laid-back, almost hole in the wall (but not quite) feeling that I just love when it comes to Japanese restaurants. I've had someone inconsistent results when ordering from the kitchen (some times fantastic, some times just meh) but the sushi is always on point. They also have great half-off beer and sake specials as well as the best caterpillar roll I've ever had! Also, try the spicy spicy roll!

I love this little hole-in-the-wall gem! The fish is super fresh and I love the simplicity of it all. They have fun specials: $1 sake night, sake bomb night, etc. The place is super small and fills up quickly on Friday and Saturday night, but I have never had a problem getting a table or sitting at the bar for weekday dinner. I rarely order the special rolls - usually I just eat sushi and hand rolls, but I love the Spicy Spicy. If they have jumbo scallop sushi that day - get it with some yuzi and lemon! Oh and the UNI is ALWAYS fresh! Fantastic!

This is definitely a good spot for sushi in West Hollywood that won't break the bank. It's right across the street from Echi and is about the same price point as Echi and Omi Sushi which is a couple blocks away. Yoshi's is the best of these 3 to me. Heads up there is no parking besides meter in the area which can be tricky. Came here on a date and my guy couldn't find anything on the street so we paid to park at Echi & walked across the street to Yoshi's. It's a small whole in the wall type of place which you find either by yelping or word of mouth. I ordered a cucumber sunomono salad which I typically like at most places, and this place was no exception. You can tell more about a sushi place than you think by the quality of their cucumber salads (knife work, technique, presentation, freshness of cucumber, balance of rice vinegar to ponzu, imitation crab or real etc), This started my meal right and I ordered a blue crab california roll, Halibut sushi and Blue Fin Tuna sushi. My date was blown away by the Blue fin tuna, but then again most people are their first time. It was good quality and fresh but I have had better. The halibut was much better to me, but these 2 fishes are seasonal and not always on the menu which is why I opted for these. Our waitress was sweet, friendly and service was prompt. She was on it with water refills and our green tea. Next up we got a spicy shrimp roll, eel cut roll and Jewelry Mine roll per my YELP assessment. The spicy shrimp roll was great, it's more flavorful than spicy and they use mayo which gives it that nice consistency finished with some avocado. The eel was pretty standard, that taste of sweet and the eel was not over cooked which is essential. NOW... the JEWELRY MINE roll is the HERO of this restaurant. WOW WOW WOW this is as good as any house roll!! It's got an explosive amount of flavor, if any of you have been to Shibuya in Calabasas, this roll is basically like their house roll only bigger and more fish. It has lots of fish (crab, tuna, salmon, albacore, white fish) mixed together with some spice and fish eggs. Shrimp tempura in the middle wrapped in Soy paper. I want to say it was $12-14? and it's worth it's weight in jewels!!!! Great way to end the meal and leave a lasting impression. The meal was $60 with tip, pretty fair pricing for good sushi. Next time I'll prolly just get 2 Jewelry Mine's and a sunomono... why mess with greatness? exactly. This place isn't trying to be an elite sushi place like Wa, Sugarfish or Matsuhisa, so if you are looking for a relaxed sushi setting and reasonably priced quality sushi spot give Yoshi's a try. This little hole in the wall just eclipsed Koi as my favorite sushi restaurant in LA. Great drink specials every night and amazing prices and service. The albacore is a must order and seriously melts in your mouth. Get it you won't be sorry! Other menu favorites so far include the Spicy Spicy roll (Spicy Scallop, Shrimp and Crab inside with Albacore outside), B.S.C Roll (Baked Scallop California Roll), and S.C.S.S Roll (Spicy Crab, Shrimp, and Scallop Roll).

Here is the one of my best sushi place in LA. All employee is real Japaness who are borned real genetic. This place has unfixed daily special as $1 sake, 1/2 beer, and 1/2 all drinks. It is amazing, you won't find a sake of $17 Kikusui Large. Also, with special you can get Large Asahi bottle. I am going to be regular here!!

Visited this place following an article in the LA Weekly recommending a few sushi places that are good, but also budget-conscious. I expected to find something that would be memorable and inventive, but found an average pleasant place with mediocre rolls and dishes pleasing to the average American palate requiring California Roll and Chicken Teriyaki. Not what I expected, but I suppose I could be more careful reading the menu before I decided to check out the place. The service was friendly but rather inept.

Excellent bang for your buck at this borderline divey sushi place on Santa Monica. Very limited space, but everything we ordered was extremely fresh, fast, and delicious. Salmon Nigiri, and the Rainbow roll, and $1 sake were the highlights of the meal. The Salmon was admittedly some of the better I've had anywhere in town. Spider Roll and the Spicy Scallop roll were fairly standard fair, and a little on the small side for my taste.

I'm completely astonished at the fact that this place has 4 stars on yelp...Really can't wrap my brain around it. It's rated better than Omi Sushi and Echi Sushi, which are both right across the street. Neither one of those places is spectacular, but you get a lot of decent sushi for your money. The sushi we ordered here was terrible. Not exaggerating when I say that pre-made whole foods sushi would have been better. Even worse, the price of a meal for 2 people was almost $80! And we left hungry! Will NOT be going back.

Prices were pretty reasonable. I was impressed! If you want to order just a regular, plain roll, it's only like 5 bucks! However, the special rolls are standard prices (~$11). So, that kinda bummed me out. But, the regular rolls are a great deal, so I can't really complain. Service definitely left something to be desired. All of our food got sent to the table next to us accidentally. So, we ended up waiting over an hour for our rolls. They apologized and gave us all our alcohol for free soooo I can't really be too upset. Free booze means everything.

This place is so close to 5 stars for me EXCEPT my last two experiences. Yoshi's sushi is nearby, affordable, and delicious. I order take out from here every weekend...sometimes twice a weekend. Okay it's always twice a weekend. I love ordering from here and chilling at home enjoying some sushi with my mom. It's kind of our thing. Albacore is incredible, and the jewelry mine roll is HEAVEN. HOWEVER. Last time I ordered takeout from here I waited for 15 minutes inside the restaurant while the only server there and the older lady who I assume is the owner rushed passed me over and over again. Yes, the restaurant was busy and yes, they were understaffed. But I was consistently ignored and continued to be polite and asked occasionally if my order was ready. Finally the server actually stopped when I asked him if my order was ready and IT WAS IN THE FRIDGE THE ENTIRE TIME. That's when I lost it. I was pissed. I stood there for 15 minutes ignored while my order was ready. Lack of communication, I know. But still not cool. I order from here so often and this was an incredibly disappointing experience. Sushi was still on point though. And tonight... I don't know what's going on but I can't get through. The line has been busy for the past 10 minutes. Mind you my negative experience with takeout was two days ago and I was still going to order again... whatever. I'm definitely not giving up on them, I love the sushi too much. But a few more mishaps and I might have to find another sushi takeout spot : (

I had to check 3 times to make sure I was writing a review for the right place because I did not have the same experience with the food that everyone else did. First off, the fish is not fresh. The sushi/sashimi that I ordered was not the melt in your mouth kind of fish that I was expecting. Secondly, the rolls are really similar and lack luster. Not enough variety. I ordered a basic spicy salmon roll and one of their fancy rolls and they tasted almost the same to me. Over-spiced and under flavored. Also ,I found everything to be overpriced. Two very small spicy tuna on crispy rice pieces set me back $7. The stars I'm giving are purely for the niceness of the staff

Sushi is top shelf quality. Get anything you love and it'll melt in your mouth. The rolls are decent, except for one that brings myself and everyone else back for more. Sit at the bar and order yourself the Jewelry Mine Roll. It'll make you a customer for life. Saturday night was buy a beer and get a sake for free. We ordered a large Sapporo and it came with a large sake. Some people make sake bombs but I think that just ruins both beverages. Sake was good and perfect compliment to the sushi. The sushi chefs here are the real deal.

mood: casual neighborhood spot. what to order: get the yellowtail and request ponzu sauce. the tuna was tasty as was the miso sea bass. where to sit: i prefer the bar or near the front since the back can get a bit stuffy. sit at the bar since service will be more smooth. we tried to waive down 2 servers but it was the sushi chef who even had to call them. also strongly dislike when they give the bill prior to finishing a meal without asking. parking: street/metered interesting: tiny rice balls on the green tea ice cream. not sweet and the rice gave it some texture contrast.

Don't eat on the west side that often, but was on that side of town and this place came highly recommended so decided to give it a try. Friendly service is nice and so is a free hot sake special! Got both. Score! The fish was fresh, service was prompt and prices reasonable. Street parking/meters. Got lucky with a spot right out front. We ordered the albacore sashimi, red snapper, unagi, soft shell crab, spicy yellowtail avocado hand roll.. and a yuki roll. Enjoyed everything. Don't usually go for fusiony rolls, but someone was raving about the yuki roll on yelp, so decided to get it.. Was a nice combo of fish and had really tasty/interesting flavors. I was so glad it wasn't rice heavy. Not into that. Will definitely be back!

Being right down the street from me, this is my go to sushi spot. Yoshi never disappoints. Do yourself a favor and order their melt-in-your-mouth-good albacore with an entree of the delectable jewelry mine roll. What's in the jewelry mine roll you ask? Oh, you know, just heaven... The most bang for your buck, wrapped in soy paper the Jewelry Mine Roll is filled with delicious crab, tuna, albacore, salmon, yellowtail, white fish, which all come together to cushion a nice bite of shrimp tempura in the middle. Seriously, if you go here and don't order this roll, you're doing it all wrong.

This is one of my favorite sushi spots and I make it a point to visit every time I go to LA. It's not about the ambiance---there is none. What it IS about is amazingly fresh and delicious sushi. The albacore and hamachi melt in your mouth. The spicy spicy roll is delicious and the SCSS roll is creamy yumminess! To be honest, you cant really go wrong with the menu. Almost everything I've had has been delicious. The one exception was the Dynamite (baked scallop) which was just strange. But everything else I've had has been great!

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to have good quality sushi at an affordable price in and around West Hollywood. Yelp led me to Yoshi's Sushi. Not only were the reviews great for Yoshi's Sushi, but Yoshi is my favorite character to drive in Mario Kart 64, so I felt like I owed it to him to try this place out. We made a reservation, but the restaurant was relatively empty on a Thursday night around 8PM. Don't wait out front if there is no waiter, just seat yourself and they'll come to you. The server had put a little "RESERVED" sign on our table for us. There were also a number of TVs around the restaurant, on that night, playing the Lakers game, which made me really happy. We ordered: Shi Shi To Red Snapper Yellowtail Sushi Miso Glazed Sea Bass Healthy Spicy Albacore Roll I have had shishito peppers at many restaurants before. Usually, you get one spicy peppers in the bunch, but the rest are tasty in the sauce. Dear goodness, me and my friend both got a really spicy one and were dying. I decided to give it another go, and ended up with another pepper that was quite intense. A little later in the meal, I tried another one that numbed my tongue for a good 10 minutes. That was enough. No amount of ice or cold water helped cool down my mouth that was legit on fire. Shishito Peppers, you win tonight. The Red Snapper was delicious over a little rice, topped with some green onions and pozu sauce. I'm not a huge fan of Yellowtail, but the sushi was tasty too. They mixed in bits of green onions with the yellowtail, wrapped that all in rice and seaweed. Dip that goodness into your wasabi & soy sauce mixture and it's all kinds of yum. I LOVE sea bass. It might be my favorite type of fish so I was excited to see it on the menu. I have to say this may be one of the best sea bass I've ever had, second to that of my dad's of course. The miso glaze is light, but enough to where the flavors had seeped into the fish. Each bite sprinkled with some green onions, were seriously heavenly. I could eat that all night. The Healthy Spicy Albacore Roll wasn't what I expected, but was still very tasty. There's tomatoes on top, inside is a mixture of albacore, asparagus, and some other things I don't remember haha. I would highly recommend Yoshi's Sushi, and will definitely be back again. Service was great, super friendly and efficient. Our bill came out to $38, which isn't bad at all. Shishito Peppers, we will meet again.

Not a fan at all. This restaurant was pretty empty when I first walked it so it was surprising when the waitresses didn't bring any water or utensils for the first 15 min. I had to ask for it multiple times. I ordered the spicy tuna, spicy scallop and the Jewelry mine roll (which was highly recommended). The food took forever to come out, the restaurant at this point had a few other customers but not nearly enough for the food to take over 30 min to come out. Eventually it did and it tasted fine. The spicy tuna and scallop was good enough. The jewelry mine roll was terrible. Putting so many fish in one roll ruins the exquisite taste of each fish. Definitely not going back.

i have been coming here for years and if you're looking for a stylish spot to try and woo someone into your bed, this is NOT your place. if you're looking for great sushi and some sake to woo someone into your bed, this IS your place. if you don't care about getting the person you're with into bed, this is DEFINITELY your place. husband and wife duo runs this place with Yoshi behind the sushi bar and Yuki running the floor. some of the other servers are hit or miss but this is your typical "sushi bar" experience. not only are they authentic japanese, but they have TV's playing all sports including....baseball, which Yoshi really enjoys. they are always friendly and the food is consistently good. melt in your mouth salmon and blue fin tuna as well as an incredible spicy scallop roll. I have nothing bad to say and have been to this place at least 50 times if not more. Highly recommended and after writing this review I might just go back tonight.

A friend wanted to grab dinner in the gay-borhood and I had just saw that this pl was listed as one of the top 10 under-represented Sushi places in LA. So, we had dinner there last night (see my pics in the gallery). We ordered two apps - gyoza and agedashi tofu; two rolls - jewelry mine (JM) and red dragon (RD); and two smaller share plates - the miso seabass and the sushi bomb. Overall, the quality was good and the tastes were authentic. All the fish tasted like fresh fish and the combination of the flavors were very creative. For example, the JM roll had no rice and was on soy paper - it was full of various fish and a shrimp tempura. I found it to be awesome. The RD roll was a warm shrimp tempura with warm rice on the inside and cold spicy tuna on top - I also liked that contrast. As for the cooked food, some were better than others. I loved the gyoza - the porky flavor was rich and the spicy soy sauce that accompanied it was delicious. The seabass... well, I did not taste any miso but it was nicely cooked. I'd definitely come back again; and next time I'd try some of the other fan favorites like a sushi assortment or the rainbow salad (a table nearby ordered it and it looked awesome).

Ambiance: No frills, but cozy nonetheless. Nice and quiet. Great little neighborhood spot. Staff: Wonderful! I've had consistently kind and prompt service from everyone here. Yoshi makes sure to greet everyone himself from behind the counter. One time, I came here on a cold night for take out, and the waitress gave me a complimentary hot cup of green tea while I waited. So sweet, it totally made my night! Food: Yummm. I've never had anything I didn't like from here. Everything always tastes fresh. Plus, the menu is pretty massive. Can't wait to try everything on it! My favorite here is the spicy salmon. It's the best I've had. I suggest getting it as a handroll; for some reason the flavor and texture of the salmon just stands out more that way. Also, when you get something like the caterpillar or dragon roll, you can really admire how much care and detail the chefs put into preparation. Pricing: Pretty standard for sushi. Hands down the best sushi in LA! I love Katsuya and Yamashiro, but they've got nothing on Yoshi! I've been coming here for 5+ years now and they never disappoint. Try the Spicy California Ball. It's tricky to eat, but worth the effort. I'd eat here every night if I could :)

If you're looking for quick, easy, courteous service and fresh fish at reasonable prices, then this is a brilliant choice. We had the sashimi dinner and a spicy crab roll that were delish, but nothing out of this world. The decor is cheap but inoffensive. Not my first choice in LA sushi, or even my fifth, but on a budget of $$ and time, def worth checking out.

Yummy yummy in my tummy. Just checked out Yoshi's for the first time based off of the rave reviews on Yelp and it didn't disappoint! My friend and I stopped by for a quick bite. After a LONG weekend of binging on food and drinks, we were looking for something light and healthy. We ordered a couple of cups of green tea, which was absolutely divine. Steeped to order. Brewed perfectly. I'm a total tea snob. Yoshi's offers up the real deal. We ordered some seaweed salads, and based off Yelper recs, the Red Dragon Roll, Baked Scallop Roll and a Sushi Bomb. The first two blew us away. The bomb was just OK. But everything else was so good, we left happy and full. The service was very good and attentive, as well. We'll be back and are looking forward to exploring the menu some more. If you're looking for ambiance, you may want to check out a trendier place, but for a chill Monday night with an old friend, this is perfect.

First lured in by the "Sake $1" sign, my friend and I were certainly not expecting what we encountered at this unassuming little joint. BUT Good Lordy Bagordy, was this place an AMAZING surprise! I think this may be my new favorite sushi haunt in LA! Since popping my Yoshi cherry, I've been about 18 times and it has never failed me. Some of the highlights are: The Sushi Bomb :: And no I don't mean the Sake Bomb, although hey, that's fun too. The Toro, The Albacore and The Yellowtail are all dissolve on your tonguetastic The miso glazed seabass...mmmmmmiso is more like it. Definitely a good place to check out if you are in Boystown and it's never all that crowded cuz it is one of LA's best kept little secrets! Oh jeez and now I gave it away, good going Steph! ;)

How the mighty have fallen. Ive been a regular Yoshi customer since they opened their doors. I havent been going as regularly as of late, but I still pop in from time to time. Its always been a good dependable cheapish sushi place where my friends and I can drink on the cheap. So last night my homie G Aimee and I ventured out and after 15 minutes of circling we found parking. Sat down, got our sake, got our food... wait a second.. are these the SAME rainbow rolls of Yoshi past? They were about 1/2 the size and 1/4 the deliciousness. What a freakin' bummer! I won't be returning for a veeeery long time. Sorry Yoshi!

I drove by it tonight and it was pretty busy so I figured I would try it. Hmmm, I am kind of mixed about this place. They had a 'sake bomb' night tonight (free sake with purchase of a beer) so I thought, this couldn't be any better right? I ordered red snapper sashimi and the pieces were very small to begin with and there was a piece of bone in one of them as well as a big piece of fat - what a disappointment. In addition, the unagi was over cooked and crisp. I guess the final note is, I have very stinky breath from the fish which is not a good thing. I can't recommend it nor neither tell you not to go there. I am sure this place is better then what I had but I am not a fan for right now.

Always consistent. Best Miso Soup I have ever had- seriously it has healing powers. I always get the teriyaki chicken or beef and it has always been perfect. The staff is super friendly and makes you feel right at home. We go there once or twice a week. They also have half-off bottle nights, where my boy and I always split a large Sapporo. The best!

I love sushi, however this place fell short of the hype by friends who read amazing yelps about this place, as why the "2 Star - Meh. I've experienced better" I thought summed up my thoughts.. Some of the rolls were "soft" and "soggy" as my fried put it, however the saving grace of the rolls we ordered was the Dragon roll which we got a second order of and the Spicy Spicy was also good. As previously mentioned the rolls are on the expensive side.

Wow! What a great restaurant. I was not disappointed in anything. The service was great and so was the food. I went on a Friday night so it was extremely busy but we had reservation so we were seated immediately at our "reserved" table which felt special. Definitely check it out! For more details... the outside of the restaurant may make you wonder if you're at the right location but once you are inside, you'll feel a lot better. The parking was a bit of a hassle but as I'm soon learning, parking is usually an issue in most of LA. I would highly recommend making reservations if you plan on going in the evening on a weekend. It was well worth it! A lot of people came inside and due to the lack of seating, left. My menu (shared with three other people) consisted of 6 different sushi dishes. The dynamite rolls was DY-NO-MITE!! LOL... my favorite. Edamame (soy beans), green tea, and miso soup. My aunt had some hot sake. No complaints came from our table. The bill was right around $50 and we were all stuffed. So good food, good service, and good price!!

At Yoshi's, I think it's all about Tail -- Yellow Tail. We swung by on the weekend and they offered by far the best yellowtail/hamachi Nigiri we've had in a long time. Salmon was ok. The rolls were ok -- careful if you order the "spicy spicy" roll; it's solid from a taste perspective, but absolutely swimming in it's own juices. Have to agree with Angela O. on service -- our server was overly attentive. Always had water and tea. Maybe it was an off night for others who visited. Although, the place did have a very strong cleaning agent aroma -- like bleach, but maybe they just totally scrubbed the place clean in the AM of the day we visited. Mostly seems like a quiet neighborhood joint, and would go back only if we were passing through the neighborhood on foot, like we did this past weekend.

Anyone who's bitching about portions or price at this place needs to get a freakin' reality check and remember where we are - LOS ANGELES...home of the abundant "what do you mean you didn't want to drop $150 on sashimi?" sushi places. Yoshi's is super affordable - two people can leave very happy for $50-$75 depending whether alcohol is involved. You can even sneak out for less if you keep it simple. As for taste, Yoshi's rocks...yep, and kickin' service too. Having been to Japan twice now, I can say this stuff is the real deal. Any local will tell you the best sushi in Japan comes from the most unassuming places...Yoshi's is not flashy, but I'd rather pay for yummy food than snooty 'tude.

I just ate here tonight and boy am I glad I stumbled along this place. Small dimly lot hole in the wall with great tasting food to rival the expensive packed trendy places among us in Hollywood and West LA. I tried all the bar faves like the jewelry mine roll, miso sea bass and spicy tuna on crispy rice which was the BEST I have ever had....wow, out of this world good! This is a great, low-key sushi place! All of the sushi chefs and waitresses are Japanese, which adds a (rare) authenticity to the food that you don't see often in Los Angeles. They start you off with a complimentary small cucumber, sesame-ginger salad. I'm not a big fan of cucumber OR ginger, but this was quite tasty and perfect to whet your appetite for the delicious fish to come. The albacore was our favorite, we ordered 2 rounds of it! It was so fresh and buttery-good. Mmmm. All of the fish was fresh, and they serve large portions of fish in each roll without too much rice. So, you definitely get the bang for your buck (I hate when rolls have only a tiny sliver of fish in them and are surrounded by tons of rice - I paid for FISH, not RICE). Parking is a little tricky, but if you drive around you'll inevitably find street parking. Overall, the fish is fresh, the portions are decent, the prices are inexpensive and the service is great! The one thing I'm always wonder was why there are so many sushi fusion places in WeHo and NoHo. I just don't get the fascination with places like Katsu-Ya. Luckily there is a true no nonsense sushi joint at WeHo on Santa Monica Blvd. As many pointed out before me, the place is like a hole in the wall as the setting is very low maintenance and no shrill.The place is not really old school style sushi joint or a fancy looking bistro diner. It's definitely not going to win you over with the decor. What's going to win you over is the service and the quality of the sushi. I ordered 9 different sushi with the normal traditional ones like salmon, eel, shrimp, sea urchin, yellow tail, and albacore. The price of each piece is reasonable at $3.50 to $5. Not exactly cheap, but still at the going rate for quality fresh sushi you will find. Definitely very reasonable at West Hollywood area. The sushi are very fresh and efficiently made by the chefs. It might not be something you will be impressed like the presentation made at these fusion places, but the old school sushi are still what they are... super quality. I missed the chance to stock up on alcohol, but I was figuring I can do damage later on that night. The drinks were very reasonable and less expensive than some of the sushi joints I have encountered. After all, alcohol is the big money maker for many of the restaurants, but this place is offering discounted price for your drinking pleasure. Not only there is a big sushi bar with counter seats, they also have several tables to accommodate big group. Plus they added in a few table in the front for the couples. The service is top notch as I got the friendly and quick service all night long. It's definitely a cool place without get the snobbish behavior at some of the other sushi joints. Luckily no strictly rules on how you should eat a sushi. I really hate places like that which scolds you on how to properly eat a sushi. Since we are paying, let us eat on how we wanted. Luckily, no snobs here. It sort of sad for me to hear a conversation between a customer and the sushi chef on why they don't open for lunch during the summer on weekdays. I could understand the sushi fusion is the rave these days, but this place is way better than your local Sushi Boy or Kabuki. I saw the lucky cat that they are displaying on the back behind the sushi counter. I wish them well on that front.

Holy crap. Those of you who know me know that I can be easily distracted by the thoughts of alcohol, women, and anything shiny and flashy...especially if they are hanging off of a woman who's drinking alcohol. (Those of you who don't know me should also know that I hold my liquor well, am charming to a fault, clean up nicely when I take that occasional shower, and am an all-around good guy. Ahem.) $1 sake night? Are you kidding me? These were not small, thimble-sized cups of sake, NO NO NO. These were served in masus, each pour containing probably 1/2 to 3/4 the amount of sake in a flask (so 3-4 oz.). WOW. 4 of these floored my ass faster than a chick who knows martial arts after I've made some "inappropriate" comment (some people call it self-defense, other call it foreplay--you say "tomayto," I say "tomahto" *shrug*). The sushi was delicious, although my dining companion did not think the Sushi Bomb was "da bomb." (Okay, bad and easy pun, will never happen again.) Having dined here sober (on a non-$1 sake night), I can vouch that the sushi is just as delicious when you're sober as when you're inebriated. So, I keep hearing these rumblings that sushi down in L.A. is better than a lot of places in San Francisco. I've heard this from a few reputable sources but I had yet to fully experience any real comparison. So, when sushi was suggested when we were down visiting Stephy this weekend, I was excited to take the raw fish challenge. It was like a crazy Japanese lady smacked me in the face with a giant, raw Tuna and made me come to my senses as to how great sushi can be. The fish here was incredible and made me rethink what quality sushi really can be. Now, I'm just a simple white kid from the midwest, but whoa man, this is some of the best raw fish I've had in a long time. The highlights were the most amazing hamachi toro, albacore, unagi the ponzu sauce and the really deliciously simple and refreshing cucumber salad before the meal. We got so much nigiri that Friday night and gorged ourselves. So good. Yeah, the ambience isn't exactly super fancy and all sushi restaurants seem to be plagued with radio stations that only play Peter Cetera, but it's all about the fish here. And it is quaint and has character, so that counts for something in my book. Sushi is such a personal thing, but in my opinion, this place is fantastic. I'll have to visit Stephy more often and try some other places to get my well-rounded experience of L.A. sushi, but for now I'll say this place is frigging unbelievable and was an excellent place to hang out with my goofy coworkers with sake and great fish. I'm liking L.A. more and more.

Great fresh sushi! My favorite was the Catepillar. The eel was so good, it just melted in your mouth. I didn't taste any of the little bones either! That's pet peeve of mine. The presentation was wonderful, you can tell the sushi chefs pay a lot of attention to detail. The special for the night was the Orchid roll and that was pretty darn good. It had lots of different cuts of fish that was nicely presented. The Cobra roll was just ok. I wouldn't order it again. Went on a Friday night and they had half off drinks. I give it three stars. Because I don't want it to get crowded. If you are substantial and you read my review, you'll get the inside info that the sushi is "damn", the service is "awwww, what a sweet little asian lady", and the sushi makers just have that "I trust, you to be my sushi maker" look. I hit it on Saturday early evening, it was slightly dead, parked in the "no-parking for anything other than the dry cleaning/hamburger mary's" parking lot and didn't get towed, and I crushed 4 rolls, a sushi bomb, free saki, a couple beers, and a decent little cucumber salad. It's my new money sushi place. I already want to go back. Sushi is so good!

Went here last night for a friend's birthday celebration. After reading Yelp reviews, my friend's and I decided to stop here before heading to a club. The girls and I definitely enjoyed ourselves here. We had made reservations for 8pm, and when we came in, it was not crowded at all. Our table was all the way in the back, which I think was good because we got pretty rowdy once we started sake bombing. Saturday is sake bomb night so you by a big bottle of beer (which I believe was $6) and you get the sake for free. I don't eat seafood so I only ate the vegetable roll, which was good, and I had an order of soba, which I don't think you could really mess up on. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their sushi because we basically cleaned everything up. Sushi ordered: rainbow roll, crunchy roll, tiger roll, and dragon roll. Service was okay. They only gave us one sushi menu and one dinner menu, which we had to share between 7 girls, so it took a while to order. It took over an hour for them to give us our food, but other than that they were really helpful in keeping the drinks flowing and making sure that we had everything we needed. Parking is also difficult to find, but we pulled up in the lot for the diner on the corner and the guy ended up letting us park in the spots behind one of the buildings. Overall, nice people, good prices, and great specials for sake bombs!

Like many of you, I think 5 stars should be reserved for your absolute favorite restaurants of all time. I have had weeks where I eat this sushi 5 days in a row; it is walking distance from my office. Considering this past week was one of them, it's time for me to show some love to Yoshi and Kenichi (sp?) my two favorite chefs. Sushi is one of my favorite foods. I can always instantly tell the quality of a sushi spot by ordering the tuna sushi (on rice). The sushi here is PHENOMENAL. You know good tuna when it's a little darker red and has a good texture with a fresh flavor. That's what you get here. Yoshi goes to the market every day. Yoshi's has the obligatory fancy named and prepared rolls like the Dragon Roll, but where they are really strong is the basics. Their tuna sushi, spicy tuna roll, spicy shrimp roll, and sea eel are some of the best. And the prices are absolutely reasonable: it's incredible sushi minus the fanfare, with really nice chefs and great service. Yoshi and co., congrats on five stars and I will see you again tomorrow.

My favorite sushi spot! This is the best sushi I have found in LA for the price. My husband and I love going here. The albacore nigiri is amazing. It melts in your mouth. I don't know what Yoshi does to make it taste so good but we have often gone in there and eaten plate after plate of it. I have eaten at more pricey/renowned sushi restaurants and ordered the albacore but Yoshi's always surpasses them. The last time I was there I tried the spicy tuna on rice cakes appetizer. I'm definitely getting that again. The fried rice cake is a nice touch and I like the chewiness of the rice cake. I also give points to Yoshi's because it is easy to get a seat and they have great drink specials during the week.

Tried this place based on reviews on other sites and was not disappointed. A great neighborhood sushi restaurant and definitely one of the best values in LA. The sushi is always very fresh. Absolutely the best albacore sushi in town. Good caterpillar and spicy tuna rolls too. They have drink specials several days a week with pretty cheap sake or beer. The service is always great as well. The waitress even let me use her cell phone to phone a friend that I was waiting for when I realized that I forgot mine! It is getting more popular lately, hopefully it won't get too crowded soon. I guess the word is getting around. One star off for lack of atmosphere and hard-to-find parking. To me, Yoshi's is one of those typical Americanized, unremarkable-but-affordable sushi joints. But that does't mean it's bad! First of all, service is great. I get the spicy sashimi salad every time -- crisp salad greens tossed with krab and fresh chunks of assorted sashimi, then garnished with a generous sprinkling of sesame seeds and a flourish of soy paper shreds. It's big enough for two to share as a starter. The yuki roll is also yummy -- scallops and shrimp on the inside, whitefish, fuzzy green shiso leaves and a tiny dallop of Sriracha on the outside. Although it's small, the yuki roll bursts with flavor and, coupled with the spicy sashimi salad, is a perfect summer dinner for only about $20. Who cares about conventions, when sushi can be that yummy and affordable??

I wouldn't say Yoshi's Sushi is the best sushi place in LA. But I would definitely recommend it to a friend looking for very good sushi in the WeHo area. It's often crowded, but they take reservations. The drinks are good, and the food is very fresh. The ambiance is... no real ambiance, really, but the crowd is not pretentious and is obviously here to have a good time. Overall, a decently-priced, nice neighborhood sushi place. For more of a better "restaurant-like" experience, go a little bit more west on Santa Monica, and hit Fat Fish on Robertson.

I have to thank all the Yelpers in tha house that made this visit possible. I barely even noticed this place and not even sure that I would ever bother to have stopped in, if not for ya'll! This is a great neighborhood sushi establishment that I will gladly frequent. I hit it up with my gf who'd never had a full blown sushi experience and it was the perfect place to start. First of all you must start with the fried tofu in broth, it is to die for, or slay for I suppose. It's quite good... And the rest of the usual suspects were really good. Nothing fancy about this one; just a very solid meal with friendly and prompt service. Check it out!

Oh Yum yum yumminess! Yoshi sushi is so very very very good. Does it have faults? Yes it does. The service is not terrific. you could get a mediocre tuna on occassion. But man it is just so high quality for the price I am just falling in love. Food last night: Chirashi Bowl had Ahi, yellowtail, albacore, salmon, and egg on a bed of delish sushi rice. the ahi was the only weak link. The salmon was like silk, the albacore like buttah baby! We had to order another albacore or we couldn't leave. The Gyoza potstickers were delicious and the dipping sauce was spicy! We also got a Rattlesnake roll with real crab (you have to request the real crab) that's crab, yamagobo (carrot pickles) asparagus avacado and cucumber topped with eel. God god that's delicious! then we were still a bit hungry so we got a vegi tempura. That wasn't my favorite because I didn't love the veggies in it, but the batter was very good. We shared a big sapporo and the bill for all this was.......drum roll please.......55 bones! what more can I say? Thank you great city planner in the sky for putting Yoshi in walking distance of my apartment!

I heart sushi a damn lot. I used to eat it almost every day when I lived in NY. I consider myself a bit of a sushi snob, but I am happy to try any kind of roll, anywhere. I went here with my boyfriend tonight, and we were STARVING. We ordered like 8 rolls! On the plus side, the fish was incredibly fresh and melted in my mouth-seriously it's some of the freshest sushi I've ever had. On the minus side, the simple rolls were FAR better than the complicated rolls. For instance, my salmon avocado roll was fantastic, but the B.S.C...yuck! Way too much going on there! That was kind of a first for me, cause I usually like the more adventurous stuff. I'd happily go back, but next time I'm sticking to the sashimi or the standard stuff.

Loved the sushi Yoshi's. It had a quiet, unpretentious atmosphere, the service was *fast* (although pretty thin crowd at 6:30 pm or so), and the 'sushi bomb' was hilarious--they make it look like an actual bomb, and light it when they bring it to the table. Rainbow roll was a-ma-zing. A lot of different kinds of fish for yer buck. Only weirdness is that a lot of the stuff on the menu (like the sushi bomb) isn't on the order sheet, so we had to write a couple of our selections in.

YUMMGasmic. Absolutely phenomenal. What looks like a regular deli (in Japan, mind you) counter gives way to a fantastic overall sushi experience for any lucky bastard who might wander in! There's no way I can say what my favorite item was that I tried... Yellowtail and albacore were delights! The Rock 'n Roll was delishhhhhhh and the Jewelry Mine was oh so good! Two reasons Yoshi Sushi was not gonna suck, even if it did: 1. Hanging out with Yelpers makes everything better. 2. I passed by a rather fine black man in a suit who was listening to old school Madonna on his iPod on the way there. I don't care if it's WeHo, we would have had such a beautiful marriage; "Cherish" would be our song, "Fever" would be the theme of our wedding, we'd become close personal friends of Madge's and she'd send us matching pink leotards for our anniversary ... Uh, right. I love sushi (well on my way to being a sushi fiend like Danielle G!) and I've loved it for as long as I can remember. But having sushi at Yoshi's was like trying sushi for the first time all over again. The "traditional" rolls were tasty, but the special rolls were something else. We ordered maybe 6 rolls and I'd never even dreamed of the existence of about half of them. I was also very pleased with the seasoning of the sushi rice. A lot of places forget to do this and their rolls just aren't up to par because of that. Definitely try the sushi bomb and the one on the rice cakes, which are basically to die for.

While looking up the phone number to tourist-popular Frying Fish in Little Tokyo, I somehow stumbled across this site and its stellar reviews for Yoshi Sushi. The 5-star rating is right on and my girlfriend and I will definitely brave mid-week traffic on the 10 and 101 (and Santa Monica Blvd.) again to eat here. What's so great about Yoshi's Sushi? The sushi is fresh, tasty, filling and reasonably priced. My date and I shared a spicy tuna roll, a shrimp tempura roll, an order of (sweet!) miso sea bass and a pair of Sushi Bombs. All were fantastic. The sake was only a buck and the staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. (Don't worry if you can't score a seat at the bar. The place is small enough that those of us at the handful of tables were attended to frequently.) What's not so great? Depending on the day and time, you'll probably be forced to pay $8 for valet parking (located directly across the street). Even late on a Tues. night parking was extremely limited. Also, sodas are $1.80 for 12 oz. can, but, really, who cares? THE SAKE IS $1.00! Anyway, despite the lack of free of even metered parking, Yoshi's Sushi deserves the positive reviews and 5 stars. Can't wait to go back.

First thing you need to know here is the drink nights: $1 sake tues & wed half off drinks thurs and fri sake bomb on sat. so that's a deal. so is the sushi. the rolls are all very well-made. Had the red dragon, healthy spicy albacore, crunch roll, rattlesnake roll, some california ball or something. it was all great, as was the sushi. delicious toro and yellowtail. service was okay, as the waiter kept running away from our table before we were done ordering, as opposed to being the kind that never lets the sake get empty. But the food came at good times. Only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is that the decor wasn't that great. I've driven by the place a million times and never noticed it since the sign is old and hidden. Imagine a small local deli with amazing food and cheap looking tables and chairs and you get the idea. By the same token, I'll be becoming a regular because the food is just so amazing, laid back atmosphere, and its an overall deal when you don't want to deal with overly fancy LA sushi joints.

Nice little place... almost drove right past it. Parking is in the back for $4 I believe. Got a seat right away at the sushi bar and were warned that our first order will come out in 30 min. I heard soo much about this place, so I wasn't about to leave. We ordered a bunch of stuff ... 1) Sushi Bomb - Was alright.. I guess I expected too much. 2) 2x Albacore Sushi - Oh man... soo delicious and fresh!!! 3) Japanese Mackerel - I didn't get to try this one but looked fresh. 4) Spanish Mackerel - I didn't get to try this one but looked fresh. 5) 2x Sweet Shrimp - Very tasty and fresh. (We got the shrimp heads deep fried after ordering this sushi. They were just incredible... At first I was a bit thrown off... but man were they good. ) 6) Uni - Ewwww.... didn't even try. Sorry... :) 7) Yellow Tail - Was good and very fresh. 8) Lobster Hand roll - Was very tasty, but I did have better. 9) A bottle of Sake of course.. - Delicious as always. lol When you read other reviews about how fresh the fish is here, trust me they are not exaggerating. Everything looks, smells, and tastes fresh. The service was good for a busy sushi restaurant. The sake kept us company for the 30 min wait.... We paid $76 before tip for two people, which was worth every penny. Definitely coming back here again.

A girlfriend and I went here one night after reading the reviews on Yelp. I have to say that it was great! We sat at the bar (Very comfortable stools by the way) and were able to watch the Chefs prepare our sushi. The service was a little on the slow side, which was surprising because they weren't that busy. Other than that, the sushi was out of this world. Everything was fresh and had incredible flavor, including the miso soup and cucumber salad. The decor is is also great. I would definitely go back again and again.

I thought that I had been to every great sushi place LA had to offer but alas, enter Yoshi. I have heard a lot about it and it delivered in every way. Yummmmmm, Yoshi Sushi is so good! When I had 24 hours in Los Angeles recently I had to satisfy a major sushi craving. Luckily, I read a little bit about Yoshi's here on Yelp and decided to head over to West Hollywood. The place was empty so that could skew my vote for great customer service. The staff took great care of me and were incredibly nice. I sat at the bar and ordered right from the chef. The Spanish Mackerel was so damn fresh! I comtemplated ordering more rounds of it but I was completely stuffed after eating a spicy tuna roll and the tiger roll (one of their specialties). It was all perfect and completely hit the spot. For all of that food, a soda and a bowl of miso soup it was only $30. I consider that a pretty good deal. I will have to remember Yoshi's for my next trip back to L.A.

I thought the quality of the nigiri was top notch, the yellow tail belly literally melted in my mouth like butta. Butta, I tell you. The sushi bomb was pretty fun but rather anti-climactic given all the buzz. The rolls were also fairly good, though I've certainly had better. Two things put this place into four star territory for me: (1) the price, you can't beat it with a stick. My boyfriend and I did our usual gluttinous routine & ordered lots of rolls, nigiri, large sake and large Sapporo & it all came out to $63. (2) The kindly lady-owner reminds me of my mamma and you can't give mom less than four stars.

I really don't understand how this is rated 4.5 stars?? I decided to try it out because its close and was rated highly. Maybe I had their sushi on a bad night or something but it was awful. Ordered take-out last week, three rolls, miso soup and the gyoza appetizer. The miso soup and gyoza were fine, but the rolls seemed like they had been sitting there for days. The eel roll had a funky taste, and the other two were something simple like yellowtail, were so fishy and bad I couldn't even finish them. What a waste. Definitely better sushi out there.

Never Been to both, but both got rave reviews here. So I "Talk'd" it out. Stephy S. swoops in all caped superhero like( I can hear the dun-dun-da!! background music), and says, "Yoshi Sushi. Hands down. Make sure you order the yellowtail belly." "Thank you, Stephy !!" I exclaimed as she swooped away. Headed over to the restaurant, saw the unassuming decor, and actually said to myself, "I have a good feeling about this." I felt good because my formula of rave reviews + hole in the wall restaurant = awesome food has yet to fail me. So, remembering some of the reviews I saw, I proceeded to order for the both of us. I even stealthily asked the waiter over for a recommendation when Sal went to the ladies room. "have you tried the Jewelery Mine?" he asked. "That's my favorite" Ok, I'll have one of those. This was our entire order(each order was 2 pieces unless otherwise stated): 1 sushi bomb(a big ball cut into 4 pieces)*** 1 albacore** 1 yellowtail belly*** 1 freshwater eel* 1 salmon eggs** 1 salmon** 1 spicy tuna roll(6 pieces)** 1 jewelery mine (6 GINORMOUS pieces!!)*** 1 miso marinated Seabass(cooked)** *- looked awesome, but didn't get to taste it, Sal ate it. **-awesome! ***-oh-my-effin-gawd awesome! They must really know what they're doing. The lady brought over the sushi bomb first. Not only did it amusingly live up to its namesake, looking like a little cartoon old style bomb, especially after the lady lit a sparking candle like it was the fuse. It was the perfect opener to whet the palate. i had my doubts when I saw mayo as one of the ingredients. But it was perfect, just the right amount to bring out the flavor of the fish and the crabs that were mixed in. My mouth is watering just thinking about it, and I just ate! Then the rest of the sushi came very timely, a couple at a time, but it was "game on!!" I'm a man that likes his variety and I was in heaven. Picking a yellowtail belly here, nabbing a salmon egg sushi there, It was a huge effort to restrain myself to eat slow so that poor Sal can have a piece here and there. Then comes the mother of all rolls, the Jewelry Mine, but I'll leave this one for you to find out as a pleasant surprise. Thru the entire dinner, i had this expression on my face like i was getting the best "blow-jay" in the world. Sorry, I'm still in my Super Bad quoting phase. I'll get over it soon. Sal had quite a big smile on her face too. We finished the smile off with an order of Green Tea Tempura Ice Cream. And without exception to the rest of the dinner, it was great. Light with a think crispy warm battered crust. The total damage...nay, the total honor was $61.32 +$13.00 tip. We didn't have any drinks cuz we still had Ketchup to deal with, but more on that later. But... (Bow)arigato to Yoshi... (Bow)arigato to our sushi chefs/magicians... (Bow)arigato to the nice lady that ran the place... (Bow)arigato to our waiter... "It's sake bomb night, would you like some free sake?" "Um, YES, please." Wowee. I just went to this place for the first time per the rave reviews I keep reading on here. We walked in for an early bite around 6pm on Saturday, and the place was completely empty. I was a little hesitant at first, but let me tell you, the food was SO GOOD. The sushi chef was great and very accommodating to my dislike of wasabi. I'll second (or third) the fact that the yellowtail and albacore literally MELT in your mouth. I had a kick ass lobster hand roll, and the caterpillar roll was awesome. The spicy tuna wasn't too spicy--but yummy nonetheless. I cannot believe I pass by this place all the time and never realized it was there. I'll DEF being going back next week! I would give it 5 stars, but there is still so much sushi to try in this city.

all i can say is " SUSHI BOMB"!!!!! this place is a little, delicious hole in the wall. it was recommended by a friend, so i looked it up on yelp ( of course) and it is just what everyone is saying," so good and not to expensive!" found out they have different bargains, different days of the week. my BF and i went on a friday night and it was 1/2 off booze!!!! SCORE! we ate til we were full, drank enough sake and the bill + tax was like $80. that includes alot of fish, 2 orders of toro and 2 types of rolls, 2 cold sakes, and a beer, such a great deal, and everyone was really friendly! the atmosphere is casual, very light, not alot of art or paint, just simple. ok, "what is 'sushi bomb' " you ask? it is a roll with lots of stuff in it that comes out in a ball with a flame at the top! you have to see it to understand. it is really tastey, not like any roll i have ever had! i'll get my BF to post a pic ........ so thats it, i will be goin back there!

Try a new place and don't worry about my sushi snobbiness. Now if this was just a good meal and nothing crazy happened I wouldnt even have time to write a review but of course in the mystical world of eating that I live in, something always happens. Upon arrival I noticed that there was no parking anywhere, not in back, not on the street or the neighboring side streets, AW SCREW IT Ill go to valet. So as I pulled into the valet I noticed that the valet guy looked familiar and he noticed the same. After trying to place it for a while we finally got it. He used to be the Valet guy at Intermezzo before it changed to Chloe and now is named Cafe Marly (update: now something else). Anywho! I typically dont remember all my valet guys but he was always on point, very friendly and super fast and better yet he remembered me (5 start valet guy). After we figured it out, he said, "dont worry about paying, park anywhere you want" Well, Im not having that!. Any one who's cool with me gets cool back. I hit him up with a 5 and was on my way. This had to be a good sign. SO YOSHI SUSHI EH? Well, from the get go it was good. Super friendly as most Sushi places are as we walked in. I think we got three rounds of hello's. As for the food. I got 2 Yellow Tail Belly, 2 Salmon, 3 Toro, 2 Albacore, 2 S Mackeral, 3 Fresh Water Eel, 2 Regular Yellow Tail, Miso Soup (for 3), Crunchy Roll and since everyone talked about the Sushi Bomb, I tried that as well. Now let me preface this by saying, I usually dont order all the americanized sushi but since I had friends who wanted to try it we did. We also got 3 Large Sakes, some beers and a 7-Up for me. All of this came out to be under 100 bucks. I was absolutely amazed. Now I wouldn't have been if this was mediocre to bad sushi. IT WASNT! It was actually really good. The rice could have been a little warmer but now I'm just splitting hairs. The rice did have a little vinegar and the fish itself was perfect. I mean perfect. Exactly how it should be and I couldnt deny that. The Toro burst in my mouth and everything else had tons of flavor when needed. Overall I was thoroughly impressed. The fact that our bill was only about 80 bucks about 100 with tip just blew me away. I mean, I have spent that much on myself before. Also considering that i ate the majority of the sushi and it was still split three ways brought a smile to my face....ssshhhh dont tell them. Other good points: 1) I asked for no wasabi on the sushi and half way through our order they came by to ask if I wanted the hot accouterments that comes on the...actually I dont remember which piece of sushi but, that came on one of the pieces of sushi since I didnt want wasabi. I for sure wanted that and really appreciated the fact that they asked. 2) I usually lose my wallet, car keys, credit card....you name it Ive lost it. And in true Antonio fashion, I left my car key...just the one key, mind you, in the bathroom. How I did that, I dont know. But the waiter came running out to the parking lot where he found me searching frantically through all my pockets and put all my worries to rest. After that I was like....oh snap yall, you just gave yourself 5 stars.... Later Skaters!

Went with some friends who had heard good things about this otherwise-unnoticeable sushi joint on SM Blvd. There's a reason good things were heard! I've written two unkind reviews for other "reasonably-priced" sushi joints, but this one is all positive. Fish was good, rolls creative without being overdone (but they are mongo-mega-big...so if you're on a date, either figure out a way to bite them delicately, or simply open wide and demonstrate your mandibular skills), and the prices are great. Don't go expecting Matsuhisa or Katsuya quality, but it's good fish and a great deal. Fifth star withheld for surprisingly bad edamame (how do you mess this up?) and clinical decor.

My friends in the know laud this place as the best unknown sushi restaurant in L.A., if not anywhere on the Pacific Rim. I just happen to like it a lot. The icky Uchi Sushi recently opened up across the street with flash-but-trash fare. If you want crappy music, rude service, and that "crazy rockin' sushi vibe", go to Uchi; if you want quality fish true to the subtle flavor of each type and prepared by a master who knew what to look for at the fish market that very morning, cross the street to Yoshi. He still provides the freshest, melt in your mouth fish, skillfully cut and presented, and without the horrific cost other restaurants feel they have to gouge their customers with to prove their worth. And you'll actually get sushi-- Not a glob of sticky rice with a tiny bit of fish tucked inside.

I don't think the Ambience is all that but it is a great, consistent place for Sushi and you don't have to spend a fortune. A firend and I go there often and we usually get edamame and 5 to six rolls and on average spend about $20 each. Can't beat the value. You don't need to spend a lot to have some great sushi in this town, just need to find the right place. Yoshi is awesome.

BEST sushi ever. This place is great for takeout or sit down. The spicy tuna over fried rice ball is amazing...I could eat it all night. But honestly, everything I've ever eaten here is amazing. Vegetable tempura is crispy and light. Tuna rolls melt in your mouth. Yellowtail sashimi is sweetly tender. When I lived on the Westside, Sushi King was my favorite low key sushi joint...Yoshi's is my new WEHO fave. The only problem is they're only open for dinner!

This is definitely one of my favorite places for sushi. The albacore here is probably the single best piece of sushi I've ever had, and the menu has a decent variety of unique specialty rolls. Service is always top notch and prices are reasonable.

If you're into sitting at the sushi bar and ordering real sushi straight from the chef, then this isn't your place. We couldn't order directly from the chef and the service blew the entire time. Very impersonal. Other than the delicious albacore, the rest that we ordered had problems. Rubbery spanish mackerel, freezing uni, overcooked anago, awful crunchy roll. Compared to other places I regular, this place is lousy.

after all the reviews i read we gave Yoshi's a try tonight, i thought it was worth the five stars (Kim thought the $7.50 for the miso seabass was a little too high). the service was killer from the moment we arrived, we got to order directly to Yoshi. the timing of our food was perfect, the tuna was just liked we read as being melt in your mouth. the jewelry roll was off the hook as was the overpriced sea bass(kim said it) we ate and drank good and plenty for our bill and will definitely come back for more. we also got to meet Frank K. and company from yelp fame and met new great people here in the city of angels.

PERHAPS if I didn't live in such a sushi-crazed city with such amazing sushi restaurants and PERHAPS if I hadn't gone to Echigo for omakase lunch just two days earlier, I miiiight have thought Yoshi's Sushi was better than it actually was. A more probable outcome is PERHAPS if I had gone on a Monday night, where the sake is $1(?), rather than any other weeknight, when all drinks are 50% off, I might have been more tipsy and would have given it a higher rating. [Tangent-I heard that the fish gets delivered to Japanese restaurants on Tuesdays, hence, the restaurant is trying to draw people in on Mondays to polish off their old fish? Just a thought.] With other great sushi restaurants in a comparable price range, such as Hama in Little Tokyo, I just can't justify coming back here just for the sushi. Coming back for the $1 sake, now that's a different story... Did I mention that I went with two guys who made me polish off the bottle of sake by myself? Lame. Wait, I sense a conspiracy here... (scratching chin).

Came here tonight because my boyfriend and I frequent Echi across the street and wanted to try something new. I was definitely not impressed and wished we had just stuck with Echi. First off, the ginger tasted horrible which totally turned me off immediately. Secondly, none of the sushi we ordered was very good, not terrible but just not great. The first thing we had was albacore sushi and it tasted like salami which really sicked me out. After that nothing was really tasting great. The atmosphere is horrible, not very nice inside, no music or anything and the service was slow. If you're in the area, go to Echi, not this place.

Saturday Sake bomb night. Buy a beer and get free sake. First time having sake bombs, but I would prefer just drinking the hot sake by itself since it goes down pretty smooth. But a pretty good deal. I got the mixed tempura, it had three pieces of shrimp, two string beans, a potato, a bell pepper and a carrot. I wasn't sure about the bell pepper, but it was something different and it was actually pretty good. I've had better tempura, but I would have liked it better if the tempura was fried more so there was a crunch in ever bit, felt like they rushed it. I suggest that they should heat up the tempura sauce, but I guess I could have asked them to heat it up. It also had a little salad which was pretty good and macaroni salad that just had no taste. The miso was pretty good. The philly roll was probably my favorite item I ordered. The workers were very nice and the waiter was chill. Didn't even have to ask for refills because he would already be on it.

I had a craving for sushi and wanted to try somewhere new. Did some nearby searching, and it brought me to Yoshi's. The place was busy when we arrived at 9pm on a Saturday nite. The noise level was loud but likely due to how this place is set up. Lots of tables in the back and the Sushi bar sort of in the middle-but this isn't a judge on their decor but rather the sushi-so lets get to it! The fish is FRESH, melt in my mouth fresh! We ordered a variety of things: albacore, salmon, sea urchin, tuna....all wonderfully delicious. The rolls are a bit sloppy, they lacked the "tightness" rolls have. Upon, TRYING to pick the rolls up, with chopsticks, they would simply fall apart. If it wasn't for the freshness, I would not consider coming back. Maybe, the chef was tired, inexperienced, lazy, sleepy, drunk, high, overworked, bored....but the FRESHNESS made up for it. Service was good, the staff is very friendly except for the chefs. I like the traditional greeting you get from a sushi chef and these guys may be falling into the above adjectives used. :)

A good, solid place to have very decent Sushi & Sashimi. The staff there is accomodating and do a good job of getting your order to your table asap. Don't expect chic dining & fabulous interior design. Yoshi's is more about the food, baby. My only real complaint about this eatery is that all the hard surfaces there reflect and seem to amplify the sounds of people's conversations. One lady with the screechy, harpy voice was truly irritating. I will bring ear plugs the next time I go there. 1) Blue Crab Roll was like having a chicken salad sandwich sans bread and chicken. The mayonnaise added a richness to the sweet crab, and the amount of the crab mix was truly generous considering it was only $6.80. 2) Spicy Shrimp Roll was exactly that. It left my mouth singing a warm spiciness, and it was a good contrast to the mellowness of the Blue Crab Roll. $5.25 3) Healthy Spicy Albacore Roll was very unique. I have never had the outside covering of a cut roll to be made from a thin layer of red tomato. The fresh tomato covering added a slight gastric to the spicy albacore making it more refreshing. Cucumbers and asparagus were also inserted to create a more green vegetable lightness. A light mayonnaise/wasabi sauce accompanied this dish if you wanted to add a touch of oily, horseradish fragrance. They displayed rather high quality bottles of Sake (Sah keh).....NOT Saki :-(. such as Kikusui, but they do have Sake for a buck if you're just interested in sucking it up. Overall, I liked what I had eaten in what is an unpretentious, honest-to-goodness modest place that serves good Sushi and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. As you all know, there are restaurants in West Hollywood that could set you back on half a month's rent. So for some down home Sushi, Y'all come down to Yoshi's.

Came to this place on a friday night around 8pm. We had called ahead to reserve a table, which was a good idea because it was pretty full. The service was fine. We split veggie tempura (it was good), and a few rolls. Nothing special to me, but tasted good. I was expecting something more based on the reviews. They did have a happy hour going on for their drinks (50% off everything) which was probably my favorite part ;)

I'd rate the sushi quality of this place 7/10...certainly better than the place across the street (echi sushi... possibly 6/10). But, the prices are a bit much. To me, I can't justify the extra cost of this place for the marginally better sushi quality. If it had a more upscale ambiance, then maybe...even echi looks a little nicer inside. But echi can get crowded and louder, and this place is definitely always clear and quiet. Yoshi's is definitely more of a homey vibe than a nice restaurant vibe. The staff are very friendly, but equally as friendly as the competition. Overall, this place would be good for someone who requires sushi quality slightly better than echi, and doesn't mind the extra cost of their meal. If you're looking for something within 15-20 mins of here though, I'd recommend hara sushi or crazy rockin sushi instead...both have cheap high-quality sushi at great prices.

I went here for the alternative to Echi Sushi which is across the street. I sat at the bar. I ordered with a waitress who was very sweet, an older Asian lady. She was like my grandmother. The chef made my food at different time frames, it was nice to not have it all at once. He knew just how long to before he would send my order over the bar. I wanted to add some items to my order and just told him, which is what I am use to unlike its competitor across the street. Even though the chef was super busy that night, he still made time to check on me and how my food was. Everything I had was super fresh and delicious. I base the quality of the food on what their albacore tastes like, Yoshi's was melt in your mouth delicious.

Disclaimer: I don't eat fish. Never have, and probably never will - willfully anyways; so why the F am I reviewing a sushi restaurant? Same reason Ellen Degeneres was a judge on American Idol, because america's got talent. My choices were pretty limited as you can imagine. I had the 'safe family' of sushi; a sampling of the American born California roll, and something with scallops in it (forgot the name). Both were surprisingly pleasant, much better than my main dish - the chicken katsu, which came with a small bowl of miso soup. I can't be too critical of the katsu though since this is a sushi spot. I would imagine, based on the sushi I ate, that sushi lovers would enjoy the sushi here. Doesn't matter what you eat you can still taste freshness and care given to the ingredients. For all the blowhards out there, yes I'm sure I consumed fish in my meal. Whether it's from cross contamination or in the miso soup as long as it doesn't look like one, it goes down my throat with ease. Verdict: a very good sushi spot, but what took it over the edge was the sake special they have on Tuesdays. Large for 1.70 and a small for 1.00. I may not be coming back for the katsu, but for sure I'll be making a return trip for the sake...on Tuesday of course. 4 stars.

I'm so sad.. This place used to be one of my favorite places for "cheap/quick /take out" kind of sushi. My favorite was the CA roll with real crab, I used to eat 1.5 orders and have one take out each time! Lately I have returned here, the lady told me they no longer do the real crab CA roll, so I ordered the imitation crab one, it was.. :( So I add an order of blue crab roll, equally :( I also ordered other sushi, none was as good as before (it wasn't very good before to begin with) Their hot dishes were still pretty nice - miso seabass, nom nom nom. Well, if I am just rating this place as a first timer, I will probably give it a four stars, but given I used to come here ALOT and their food quality has diminished so much.. I have to rate it down. The prices were still cheap. Parking was still difficult. Services still pretty good.

Hands down the best sushi in the neighborhood. Yoshi (chef and owner) and his wife are there every night bringing the best quality fish one can find. Don't come for the scene, come for the best food and service around. Anyone who claims omi sushi or worse, echi sushi are good needs to not ever make a food recommendation. Always the freshest selection with great specials... Try the live uni and the other handful of specials on a nightly basis. Every night has drink specials too.

Toro Sushi - it was melt-in-your-mouth consistency but the taste was extremely FISHY! So gross but my bf eats anything so he didn't mind. I couldn't stomach it. It tasted rotten to me. Jewely Mine Roll - delicious! No rice, just fish wrapped in soy paper. Definitely worth the price. Catapilar Roll - standard $1 small sake on Wednesdays 2 stars because sushi should never ever taste fishy.

WE LOVE YOSHI'S SUSHI !!! This is by far the best Japanese food I have had in the United States (other than my wife's cooking of course), and I've lived in New York, Seattle, and Los Angeles. My wife loves it as well; she is Japanese and was born and raised in Yokohama. My brother also loves it; he is a world traveler who has lived in Japan, and whose passport has more stamps than the post office. Every time he's in town he insists on eating at Yoshi's. The fish is incredibly fresh, and the chefs are artists. Incidentally, the owners and the chefs are all actually from Japan, which provides a more authentic experience. Yes, there is a place across the street offering "half price" sushi, but I have to tell you, I've been to that place twice and you get what you pay for. if you don't know any better I suppose you could eat across the street and be ok, but if you actually know and love Japanese food, then Yoshi's is the way to go.

So I went in last night for take out and I really loved the ambiance and how wonderfully friendly the staff is! I ordered the Jewelry Mine Roll and some sort of crunch roll with tempura in it and a spicy salmon hand roll. The hand roll was excellent!!! Definitely would order again and the jewelry mine roll was ok. I probably wouldn't order the crunch roll again. I want to come back and review the restaurant when I actually dine there as I'm sure there's a difference to the sushi when it's only "take out". I took away two stars cause I felt that the crab tasted a little "imitation-y" and that was a turn off. But I'll certainly try again!

OMG. More than two years ago since I reviewed Yoshi's? Well, it's easy to slip your mind. Still hides on the busy bright SMB. Yet a recent walk-by found a handful of other places looking pretty empty next to a bustling Yoshi's. Always a good sign. Went simple this time. Just the sashimi dinner, thanks. And it was plenty of food. Sort of not expecting miso and rice, but it came too, and both were fresh and welcome. And I scored cause once again, it was $1 sake night. Can't go wrong there. Sat at the bar for the first time, and that was plenty comfy. Service was good and friendly. No orange slice sayonara, as in the past (I think). But all is well. World's most amazing sushi? No. But good quality nonetheless, and absolutely no pretense about the place. That always goes well, too.

Authentic Japanese sushi at it's finest! The sushi chefs and waitresses all speak Japanese and they embrace the art of traditional Japanese service. Great service and friendly atmosphere! The food is delicious and oh so fresh. Try the Jewelry Mine Roll and the yellowtail sushi! I just wish they were open for lunch and not just after 5pm!

I was admittedly disappointed after reading other Yelpers' reviews about Yoshi's Sushi...it's hard to find reasonably-priced sushi in WeHo, so I had high hopes for this place. They served us our bottle of Asahi beer, which was like a watering hole in a desert on the blisteringly-hot day that we went, but alas, it was...lukewarm. It was a slap in the face of beer. The sushi was truly average. I can eat cucumber rolls and be happy, but even the cucumber rolls here were bland and falling apart. The squid nigiri was great, but everything else we ordered [California roll, scallop, tuna, egg, unagi] tasted like the level you get when you buy sushi at a Japanese supermarket, not something you pay to have made fresh at a restaurant. My biggest pet peeve was the scallop...to me, scallops have almost always come in one piece, on rice. I don't like it when people take it upon themselves to dice the scallops up and cover them in sauce before bringing them to the table. :( I couldn't tell what it was when it arrived. We also ordered age-dashi tofu, which was...average. [I'm sensing a theme here...] The bill wasn't too expensive, but I have had much better. Also, I could live without the waiter taking my oshibori off the table immediately after I used it...being left with a cloth napkin and having some spilled soy sauce to clean up is not ideal. I was sitting against the wall, and throughout the meal the waiter was constantly reaching over me to take my 'trash'. There's a line between attentive service and just overdoing it. Just let us eat, please!

could totally get to like this place.... not fancy, but seems like a real down to earth neighborhood joint. the waitress and the waiter very nice and eager to please. and the food.... very good...! actually found this place b/c last week ate across the street at echi sushi and unfortunately was underwhelmed. well the yelp reviews i read about echi afterwards said u gotta move yo ass across the street and try yoshis! so tonight as i was on the boulevard looking for something tasty (and i mean as in food... not as in dude...) i figured hey lemme try this place. i came with my normal eating / hanging friend who's a hot russian chick. anyways we ordered simple stuff. she had the mixed veggie and shrimp tempura combo, and i had the chirasi combo. they start you off with just a tiny bit of that pickled cucumber thing. i don't know what it's called. i think it's called that pickled cucumber thing. but it's nice that they give you a little tidbit to start, plus a plate heaping with ginger and wasabi. my chirasi was not huge. but... i must admit it was very very good. i guess portions in japanese food are not supposed to be huge (much to my dismay). i guess that's why you never really see fat japanese people except sumo wrestlers. and i know its bad to stuff your face and then stuff it some more but i like sushi so what can i tell you. the chirasi was fresh, smooth, buttery, delicious. i did have to have an extra bowl or rice to finish all the fish and feel just a bit full, but i enjoyed every bite. this place seemed a little more pricey than the other spots i've been. like, i like when the booms have two items besides the typical soup and rice. all the combos here only had one special item. but we did very much enjoy the food. and... i ran into a friend / foodie here that i hadn't seen in a long time so that alone told me the quality of the place was very good. (he manages a restaurant... so he should know... and i trust him!). anyway i would definitely come back. delishcious food. low key atmosphere. i'd give it 5 stars instead of 4 if they had two special items on the combo menu, instead of just one... because the one item combo, is the same price as the two item combos at my other so-far-fave japanese spots (hirozen on bevelry, and kura on sunset...). but definitely happy to have discovered this spot on samo boulevard cause i never know where to eat when i'm here. nows i do!

Holy Shasimi!!! After reading reviews on Yelp, I decided to give this place a whirl. My friend and I were in town and stopped by. We sat by the Sushi bar and decided to order everything (well, not really) off the menu and we're glad we did! The sushi is succulent, fresh, and melts in your mouth. We topped it off with their "Buy 1 Beer, get a Sake Bomb" for free...and man..be careful or you'll end up in bed with a guy name Whitney you met around the corner from Here Bar. Anyhoo, Mr. and Mrs. Sushi are the cutest couple ever, he mans the Sushi Bar and she makes sure everyone is full and content. Even when us slow smucks were still eating at 11 when they close they didn't badger us to leave. I will def make a chance to come here again!!

Always an excellent meal Chef Yoshi! Street parking is a little difficult to find, and it is a little whole in the wall type of place. So fresh and the way sushi should be in a healthy more traditional sense. Still has fusion rolls, butt they are carefully made, not over sauced. I love that the rolls may be smaller, but they are the perfect balance of flavors and not so much rice. Love the jewelry box, YUM! Then to top it off it is priced well and amazing drink specials.

Super delicious hole in the wall off of Santa Monica blvd! Great sushi at good prices. We went here as an alternative to Sushi Dan one night and didn't regret it at all - they had a ton of really amazing, varied rolls. Will be coming back to this one!! (Only taking 1 star off out of 5 because the atmosphere wasn't mind blowing, but that should not deter you!)

LOVE this little place right up the street from our apartment. We get take out and it's good. We eat at the sushi bar and it's even better. The service is excellent and very efficient. The green tea is tasty and they keep your mug full always. My husband says the fish is fresh and he is picky. He always gets 1 or 2 rolls and 2 or 3 orders of sashimi. I get veggie rolls and I love that they offer 2 different kinds. Most places make boring veggie rolls using the same standard stuff you can get at Gelsons or Ralphs. But Yoshi actually puts thought into theirs b/c both are very different and the super veggie one has it's own sauces!!! LOVE. We also had the veggie dumplings which were excellent and the stir-fried eggplant - OK but wont get it again. My husband loved it though. The sauce was good but for me it was a texture thing that made it not so enjoyable. I am looking forward to trying more dishes. Will definitely be back!

I must update my review... I had originally written a review with 5 stars. Granted the sushi is fresh & delicious. The service has gone bad... if u go in on a Friday or Saturday night be prepared to stand there without being acknowledged. It wasn't always this way. Yuki who is the primary waitress & wife of owner yoshi. Was always so nice, she would chat with us. The last couple times wr have gone in, she doesn't acknowledge that we are waiting basically we are being ignored. We only get noticed when we grab their attention to be seated. It takes a while for our order ro be taken. And they return towards the end of our meal for the check. I probably only will return on occasion & never on a weekend. Customer service is key to any successful business, especially when the customer is a regular.

Found my neighborhood sushi joint! Good quality and great prices. I had the california bomb, which was avocado on the outside and spicy crab in the inside.. yummy. We also ordered the spicy tuna roll, both were delicious! I will definitely be back! :)

I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at Yoshi's. After my friend and I couldn't decided where to eat, we decided sushi and chose to try here. I was pleasantly surprised by the sushi - fish was fresh, served a good amount with just enough wasabi in between the fish and rice. I am picky with the quality of the rice and I was mildly disappointed with the lack of stickiness, sweetness and softness but not so much as it was such a small portion of it in each piece anyway. I tried toro and it was melt in your mouth goodness. Albacore and salmon sushi were good here too. No fishy smell or flavor at all as compared to previous reviews. We also got the sake bomb special - buy a bottle of beer and get a bottle of sake free. So happy they carry my favorite Japanese beer, Kirin, and they have a generous amount for the bottle of sake. We got a good buzz after the drinks. I will definitely come back here again!

I don't know how in the world I haven't written a review about Yoshis yet. It's, hands down, our favorite place to eat (myself and the hubs), just inching out over New Delhi, and that's pretty much because we know and love Yoshi and his wife so much. The fish is super fresh, the albacore makes you close your eyes and smack the counter with your fist (seriously), and I've never had something there I didn't like. Oh wait, except the Sea Urchin, and that's a pretty strong flavor--you either like it or you don't. It certainly wasn't anything to do with the fish itself or the preparation. Our favorites: Albacore Sashimi Spicy Salad (omg!!) Smelt egg with quail egg on top (delicious buttery wonderfulness!) Sea bass Halibut Freshwater eel Sushi bomb Pokano(sp?) Pakano? It's a specialty they only get every so often. It's a tiny fish where you eat both the flesh and the bones, which have been deep-fried in tempura. AMAZING. So there you have it--not much to say except I love, love, love Yoshis. And Yoshi and his wife themselves.

My friend and I dropped in here on a whim passing by one Saturday night. Little hole in the wall, super basic decor, low traffic, great drink specials, good sushi. This night was about random ordering of items we were unfamiliar with, so the selection we ended up with was mostly hit with a little miss. We rounded things out in the end by each ordering a favorite - spicy tuna and a salmon skin roll - and they did not disappoint. The bill was completely reasonable. I'd come back again.

man it's been a long time comin! it had never been a good time to come eat here bc 1) they don't open for lunch and 2) they have no outdoor seating. we'd always end up across the street during the summer instead. but now it's fall. and we wanted sake for dinner ;). saturday nights is sake bomb special so bombs away! sushi was fresh. service was quick. no complaints!

This is a tiny little restaurant - that would probably seat about 30 people at the very most. I would never have even considered going into it as it doesnt look amazing from the outside, but my sister raved about it so we went there - and it was amazing. I've eaten at a lot of sushi places - as my reviews show - and this was one of the best i've ever eaten at - the fish was aamzingly fresh. We sat at the counter across from the chef ( an old japanese guy) and just nibbled away - while the staff were happy to recommend good dishes & were very very friendly. I cannot recommend the red dragon roll & shrimp tempura roll enough - and the prices are pretty reasonable considering the quality of what you're having

Solid. Not mind blowing (except the albacore of course) but really, really good sushi. The salmon and albacore are always super fresh and they seem to always have something delish as a special. Some of the rolls I have tried are really good and some mediocre. The sushi (sashimi/nigiri) here definitely stand out more than the rolls. The people who work here seriously couldn't be nicer or more attentive. And the best part is that this place is super affordable and never busy. Love this sushi dive

I tried this sushi place based on my desire to try new spots in Hollywood and positive reviews on Yelp. In my opinion the sushi here was only decent... There are so many better sushi places in the area, I would skip this one in favor of others in the area...

Went here wanting reasonably-priced sushi at a decent quality-- got EXCELLENT sushi at very fair to low prices. we ordered: wild yellowtail sushi halibut sashimi black snapper sushi albacore w/ salsa garnish sashimi sweet shrimp **Yuki Roll- Woooowzers so good** salmon skin roll Yellowtail collar (cooked) and a few other things. Also had some saki, couldn't believe how good everything was. Much better value than spending whole paychecks at Sushi Roku and Matsuhisa. Service was excellent, husband and wife team. Will def return.

Fresh, reliable sushi. Wait staff was very pleasant and good standard selection. All of the items my date and I ordered were delivered super fast. The vegetable gyoza was a great starter (it's all about the sauce!). The next time I visit - for there will be a next time! - I think I'll try sitting at the bar instead of a table to see if the sushi chefs have any hot tips. A nice thing about this restaurant is the permit-free parking on the street past the restaurant. Parking in WeHo can be oh so annoying! I'd recommend the fresh water eel; it was delectable! I wouldn't call this "BEST SHUSHI in LA!" (sorry Tony S.), but definitely worth a repeat.

Hands (and chopsticks) down, Yoshi's is my favorite low-key sushi place in my 'hood. I've been here countless times, and the sushi chefs and greeter-woman who work there are always smiling and friendly. The service is excellent. The prices are inexpensive. And the rolls are A-MAZ-ING! Honestly, I've tried just about every specialty roll on the menu--from the yellowtail to the one with ponzu sauce--and you can't go wrong with any of 'em! But I have to say...my faves are red dragon and the spicy tuna roll--which, by the way, delivers a big ol' mouthwatering wasabi kick in the ass. Yowzah! Oh, and they also start every meal with a small cucumber, sesame-ginger salad that teases the appetite just enough to promise that more deliciousness is on its way. The sake is pretty damn tasty, as well. And if you get your order to-go, you can watch whichever sporting event is going on that night at the sushi bar while you wait. Parking can be a pain. But usually, there are spots on Santa Monica within the next couple of blocks. So, be patient. You'll find something. One last thing: They're open on Sundays. Many sushi places aren't. I heard a rumor it's because that's the day that the sushi is the least freshest. (Apparently, most places receive their sushi on Tuesday.) I'm not sure if this rumor is true. All I know is that every time I've had Yoshi's on a Sunday or any other night, it was absolutely stellar. All I can say is...GO. Go swiftly, young grasshopper. And prepare to be amazed.

I really enjoyed the sushi at Yoshi. I came here on a friday night at around 6:30. This is what we ordered Spicy Tuna on Rice Cake Miso Glazed Sea Bass Yuki Roll Red Dragon Roll Tropical Roll and some other roll with the word "jewel" in it. Everything was really good. The fish was all very fresh. The tropical roll was something very different which I really liked. The Yuki roll was good but it was a little pricy because it was a pretty small roll. W e finished the meal with some green tea ice cream. I love green tea ice cream. If I'm hungry and in the area I will definitely keep this place in mind.

Had dinner here on Sunday night- excellent meal and really great timely service. Our waiter was always keeping an eye out for empty plates so that we could have more counter space. The sushi was really good quality- right up there with zushi puzzle and almost even sushi zone in San Francisco (almost!). The prices were incredibly low for the quality of sushi being served. I'm glad I found this place (thanks yelp) for a last-minute dinner option while visiting the area.

My 100th review......I promised Yoshi & Mrs. that their place was more than deserved...1st of all, we migrated from Hamburger Mary's a few blks away. that nite was USC vs. UCLA 'big game' my partner is a Trojan(ette) & found out wasn't on their Direct TV/ it was ON here.... we had seaweed & salmon skin salads, mixed sashimi & a few cut rolls. salads were good, s.skin was a bit 'fishy' tasting, sashimi was really fresh & tender,agree w/others albacore is standout here. of the rolls, the 'tropical' was yum, thinks it's mango in the roll & it's like $8.00....mrs. keep refilling green tea w/really cool dispenser. We felt extremely welcomed here, even though we were 1st timers. we will def. be back......

The food is some of the most delicious melt in your mouth sushi, and the service is the best I've ever experienced (saying a lot considering it's a sushi place). I really like this place for a casual sushi dinner, I wish it were open for lunch. The sushi is great quality and the sushi chefs are so nice and friendly. The prices are great! Service: 4.5 STARS Price-to-value: 4 STARS This location seriously is a no-brainer. I made a stop here with Sideshow Frank K. as he's been raving of how cheap the food is here without sacrificing any serious quality. We ordered enough food to get us just full enough so that we had enough room for Yelp Prom. Our total was $42 I think before tip. I suppose it's no secret that a big factor is their $1.00 Sake. It was enough to get a cute little buzz going. I don't think this or their decent prices for food cheapens the experience at all, as I would elect to come here despite the fact if I were a local. Stop by, order your basic nigiri, have a couple of drinks...and enjoy the rest of your night in Hollywood.

Thank you Yelpers for helping me discover a great sushi spot in my now former neighborhood. Yoshi's sushi is nothing fancy, but sushi is good here. My favorite is Albacore Nigiri - outstanding! I've tried a number of cut rolls here; Spicy Spicy Roll is my favorite. I've never seen them get busy, even on a Friday night, so no need for reservations. To go orders are quick, and they give you lots of ginger, soy sauce, etc., not like some other places.

Great food, but bad service. The place was practically empty but they still put me in the small table in the corner. The service was also scant and slow, I think my water was only refilled once. However, the sushi was really fresh and tasty. I think it would be better were it a little less pricey. When you add the commute, parking, and the price, this becomes a much harder sell.

Yoshi's Sushi ranks in my top sushi places from LA to New York to Florida, and I discovered it on Yelp! The other reviews are correct...the albacore tuna is nearly as wonderful as toro, and melts in your mouth like butter. We overindulged with 2 orders a piece. The spicy spicy was also confirmed to be a fine choice. We finished with the red bean and green tea ice cream. The atmosphere is small and unassuming, where you can be casual or dressy. We didn't have to wait for a table, but Yoshi's did seem to have other loyal followers upon departure. I can't wait to go back to LA for Yoshi's!

Da Bomb!! Poser sushi eaters stay away from this converted diner. It's good food with no scene and friendly service. O.K. service can suck sometimes but that's what saki is for. Parking around the corner in a small lot if none on SM Blvd.

I've been meaning to check out this place for a while and finally made it last night. I ordered the sushi combo (just under $18) and it came with 6 pieces and a roll (either California roll or spicy tuna). I chose the spicy tuna, of course. I liked all the fish as it was fresh, neatly sliced and the spicy tuna was very filling. However, they have a tendency to sprinkle A LOT of sesame seeds on everything starting with the complimentary pickled cucumbers to the rolls to some of the sushi. A mouthful of not fully roasted sesame seeds destroyed a lot of the delicate flavors of the fish. Ugh. Service is very friendly. And on Thursdays and Fridays, they're doing 50% off drinks right now so that was nice my iced green tea was only $1. I'd definitely come back but respectfully ask for no sesame seeds. 3.5

In West Hollywood, this place from the outside was completely unassuming. They actually have a parking lot in the back, but it fills up quickly, so there is another lot there for about $4. I called about 45 minutes before our group got there and surprisingly, they had a table for 8 set up quickly for a weekend night. Yoshi's does have a small interior so any bigger group, I'd recommend for you to go elsewhere. Now, if this was based on service, this really would get 2 stars. I was very disappointed with our waitress who left us hanging a couple times. She was rude and when we asked about the menu, she was very short with us, especially when 7 of us - this was our first time there. When one of our girls asked a question, she rolled her eyes at her. However, she did pay special attention to one of the few guys in our group. Water was never refilled despite a request for it twice. But the food was really outstanding - we ordered so many rolls and did a group share so we could all try some of each roll. We started with the spicy tuna on a rice cracker which was really delish. Other rolls that we tried included the dynamite (scallops), Rainbow, Spider, Caterpillar (this was uber cute and really fresh and delicious), tuna roll, california roll, spicy tuna roll, spicy scallop roll, spicy salmon roll, rock n' roll, eel roll, some yellowtail dish, and there was another roll that was like an inside out california roll but was balled up. Overall, food was really good and decently priced (roughly $9 per roll). I'd love to come back to this place again but with a new waitress, please.

My wife and I went here based on the yelp reviews. Yelp, you let us down tonight. The smell upon entering the restaurant was something like watered down ammonia that is used to scrub the floors/mats at the end of the night. We almost left and wanted a table by the entrance, but were ignored by the waiter who made us take a table further inside. The bad: The Rainbow roll had good fish, but the imitation crab (pollock) was overpowering and ripe tasting. I thought the tuna was a tad fishy. The salmon and yellowtail and snapper were very good. The albacore was ok. It struck us as more of a place to drink. Parking was challenging. We might have to try it again because based on the reviews, perhaps we got it on a bad night. Like one reviewer said, "One dollar sake!!! The sushi is good, too."

Great place to grab a quick but tasty meal at a Japanese restaurant. The sushi was fresh. The best part was that drinks were half off on Thursday and Friday with any food order. My girlfriend and I didn't know until we got the bill at the end and saw how inexpensive our dinner was. We ordered quite a bit of sushi for just the two of us but then again...we can eat. =) It's a small restaurant so it would be difficult to go with a large group. I love sitting at the bar anyway...get to see all the fresh fish in the glass display.

WOW!!! sushi was AAAmazing! Came here with a couple of friends after hiking Runyon canyon. We were all starving and could not wait to try some of Yoshi's cooking (especially after hearing all the hype about this place). We were in for an absolute delicious adventure: 1. Albacore. Albacore. Albacore. If you love albacore, you will not be disappointed. Fresh, tender, and SO GOOOD! 2. Spicy Spicy Roll - perfectly spicy, melt-in-you-mouth-yumminess!!! 3. Baked Scallop Hand Roll - WOW! never had anything like this before. Warm and Cold all in one. MMMM i want some right now! Service was great (constant refills, very attentive). The place is hard to find but is very clean and cozy inside. Overall, whether it was the fact that I was starving, or the fact that I just love sushi, but my experience was nothing less than excellent and I will definitely be back for more of Yoshi's Sushi!

I love this place. I think I'm going to go ahead and say that this is my favorite sushi place in LA. Yep, I said it. The sushi is amazing. Get the tropical roll. And the spicy spicy roll. Or any of them, but mostly those two. Their pot stickers are also delicious. So is their booze. Speaking of, they have 1/2 off beer on Friday nights, and on Saturdays, you buy a beer and they give you a free thing of sake. The last time I did this, I got wasted and made out with my friend and things have been uncomfortable since. But the price was right. I also love the woman who works here. You know the one. She is saucy and fun. Maybe the next time I have their complimentary sake I'll make out with HER. We'll see where the night takes us. This place is a cheap, fun, delicious, sexually lubricating good time.

I drive down Santa Monica every week to go volunteer and since there's so much traffic, I started to Yelp the places that caught my eye. Yoshi's had great reviews and I LOVE sushi so just had to give it a try. We ordered the Jewelery Mine roll which is made of 5 types of fresh fish, a little bit of california roll crab wrapped in soy paper. YUMMY. No rice. It was very light and fresh I felt like it just disappeared in my mouth. Just kinda sad because it fell apart easily. We also got the Sushi Bomb which was very cute! It really was shaped like a bomb! I think the inside was tuna and a little bit of imitation crab as well, and again no rice. Yum, I like the sparks. Although I've only had those two items, I think what sets Yoshi apart from other typical Korean sushi restaurants is that it is very light and more true to Japanese Sushi. Not sauce heavy and not filled with california roll crab with rice that is too squished. I think this is how sushi is meant to be enjoyed.

There are 2 things that stood out the most for me that even though it's been a minute since my visit here, I can recall enjoying: 1) The Yellowtail was delicious & SO fresh. 2) The service was amazing & I had a great conversation with the sushi chef who is a Japan native. If sushi is an art form, then Yoshi's is a veritable haven for culinary masterpieces. Too bad traffic coming from Westwood during dinnertime is an issue. Otherwise, I'd definitely be a regular. Food: Not only is the sushi here beautifully plated, it actually tastes magnificent. My caterpillar roll came with alfalfa sprout antennae and my dragon roll was a little mini dragon ( yelp.com/biz_photos/duul… ). Mmm! Gorgeously delicious! The rice here is perfectly done and the diameter of the rolls can range from normal to mindblowingly large (3.5" approximately). You'll definitely want to eat those with chopsticks. Decor: The interior of this place is chic. It's a bit dark, but I'd say it's perfect for directing your senses primarily toward the taste and texture of the sushi. Service: The sushi chef here is actually Yoshi (big surprise). He's a cute dude who definitely deserves a big tips for his artistry. Parking: There are a couple of metered lots behind the line of stores and restaurants bordering the street.

A small place tucked away amongst a row of shops. You can easily see the restaurant with its standout bright yellow banner/overhang. The staff is friendly and make you feel welcomed. The food was pretty good. The $1 sake was kinda blah so if you want a better drink, you should upgrade it. Nothing was extremely bad or extremely great. Decor:3 Food:3 Service:4 Would I go back? Maybe, but I haven't decided.

Every time I'm in LA, I go here at least twice. It's the best sushi I've had in LA and I've tried over a dozen different sushi places. They are only open from 5pm to 10pm everyday which tells you something right there. They don't need to be open for longer period of time because their food is that good! Everything is made to order i.e. when I order a spicy salmon hand roll, you can see the sushi chef personally cutting it by hand and mixing the spicy mayo in. Every time ive gone, the food and sushi has always been fresh. The food is very consistent and that's a hard feat for not being an expensive restaurant. The service is always friendly, attentive and courteous. The only thing I'd like is it they were open for lunch! I'm very happy to have found this place!

I love this place. They have the best drink specials. The Sushi is great. The prices are reasonable and it seems to be family owned by a very friendly staff who offer great service. I usually spend about $50 on a dinner here, but it is possible to spend a lot less depending on how much you order.

We have officially become Friday night regulars at Yoshi Sushi. You can't go wrong with awesome sushi and half off drinks! Plus, the staff there are absolutely wonderful, and welcome us back time and time again. I'm a creature of habit, and always return to the Jewerly Mine Roll, with no crab and add rice. It is absolutely delicious, and served with a spicy mayo sauce. My boyfriend usually goes with the Jumbo Roll, and we split the sushi bomb. The fish here is really fresh, at a price that won't break your budget!

I went to Yoshi's for good, reasonably priced sushi. What I found was just average. I don't go to a sushi establishment to eat crunchy rolls and dynamites, and fried food drizzling with mayo. I like authentic, RAW sushi and sashimi. That means the fish has to be fresh and top quality. Unfortunately, what I discovered is that Yoshi's is just average in quality. My albacore was chewy, when it should have just melted in my mouth, and the seaweed used for cut rolls was too tough, when it should have been crunchy at best and or soft and easily chewable at worst. For similarly priced but far superior sushi, I would recommend Shintaro in Hollywood. If you're looking for downright amazing, melt in your mouth sushi that's so good that it makes you glad you were born, I would go to Jinpachi, although be prepared to break the bank because that place is expensive.

Good spot. Went there for half priced drinks on Friday. The place was empty. The service was fine and the fish was pretty solid. The salmon didn't seem the freshest but the scallop and tuna rolls were bomb. No parking so plan on walking or spending about 20 minutes to find a spot. I would go back if I was in the area. My friend also had a miso soup which was good.

I would give Yoshi's five stars but for my selfish need to not let anyone know just how good the restaurant is. Also, the rolls leave a bit to be desired. If, however, you are in the mood for exquisite sashimi and sushi at embarrassingly inexpensive prices, coupled with fish monster mosaics for decor, then I guess you should try Yoshi's. I just don't want you crowding the place up with your big parties and your expectations and your attitude. Unlike Denis who reviewed Yoshi's in July, I find the service to be consistently good, though the waiters do laugh a bit when I ask for a fork.
