Went to Prime for the first time tonight..... Had the 4 coarse Prime Rib dinner,It came with Shrimp Scampi (3 nice size pieces) , also a Ceasar Salad & I Upgrated my Prime Rib to the King cut "HUGE"! & Garlic mash potatoes, all very delicious....My Mother got the same thing minus the king cut P.R. I believe hers was a 10 -12 oz cut that was still a nice size piece of meat..... Oh & her first couse she had the tuna Tartare which I would totally get next time, It was served on a tortilla shell & was little spicy sort of like mini tostada"very delicious" Neither one of us were able to finish the main course....Nice Atmosphere The Staff was very frendly & attentive Live Music.... My mom & I are both born & raised here in Ventura, she no longer lives here so she was unaware of this restaurant.... She has been to alot of other nice steakhouses, Rue Chris, Morton's, Mastro's Etc.... & she ranked Prime right up there with them.....

Stopped here with my fiancé on our way home to HB from Santa Barbara. We each got the yelp deal (4 course meal for $25). I tried the bacon wrapped scallops, baby greens, prime rib and Mac & cheese. They were all amazing! So was the service and the atmosphere. I highly recommend.

Absolutely .... hands down... the best steak and seafood restaurant in Ventura! And the entertainment is great too.

We come here for special occasions. It is a bit pricey with drinks, but the experience is well worth it. The ambiance of the place, dark, rich, quiet, is what you would expect from the finest places in the state. The food has always been a winner. Steaks are always plentiful and delicious. Prime has a a la carte menu and you can pick and choose what you wish, or you can go off of their menu that places certain things together that the staff recommends. I have never been disappointed either way. If you wish to celebrate a special event or have that special date, and Ventura is your locale, this place is the ticket.

Unfortunately, we paid a ton of money for a sad display. The steaks were all ordered medium rare and mine was purple bloody rare, my mom's was well-done and my husbands was just right. A steak house should get something like the steak-correct. We won't go back and I feel bad but it is too expensive for a loud over-priced joint.

Love this place. We use to drive to the valley for a decent meal but now that we found Prime we can stay close to home. We attend the wine dinners as well. Which I really enjoy because you get smaller portions of primes fantastic food but many courses. . The wine and pricing is unbelievable. Better prices than I have gotten as a wine club member. The owner Jan is the hardest working woman I have met. Keep up the great work. Ventura needs more quality restaurants.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday and everything was perfect! The atmosphere is romantic - the service was excellent - and everything was delicious. And to top it all off - I didn't have to break the piggy bank! The prices are great for the quality of food and presentation. We will be back for sure!!! It's our new favorite place!

Everything was fabulous! We all tried their tasting meal which even with the upcharge for particular items was still a great value. We loved everything from the appetizers to the main entree's and sides. There were 5 of us and we all tasted each others food and it was all delish! The service was exceptional and the live entertainment was perfectly entertaining and not overwhelming. I am a personal chef and also host cooking classes, so I am a real foodie and not easy to please. This restaurant gets my vote and we will definitely be back.

Great prime rib. Really big food. Love the twice baked potato. Our service was very good, really attentive. Wine by the glass is a little pricey however it is a generous serving. No room for dessert took home leftovers. Cheers.

I absolutely love the prime rib tacos and prime rib nachos appetizer specials during happy hour. Affordable and filling for a hard working couple on a budget. The staff are always, always friendly and helpful. I've visited often in the last couple years and will continue.

I was very excited to see a new Steakhouse in Ventura. My husband and I went to celebrate our anniversary. The food was excellent and the service was superb. The owner did visit our table and sent out a desert for us to share for our special day. It was great and I look forward to going again. This has taken me a while to get around to, but we went to Prime for Thanksgiving dinner this year. The food while good was nothing to write home about. We had a reservation but it did not seem to matter, we had to wait while our table was put together, while we waited (a party of 3) two larger parties were seated and began ordering. The hostess/owner was so unfriendly. Our waiter was nice and did his best but he was being over worked. The bus staff was very helpful in getting drinks and checking on the status of our food once we got to order. I would like to think this was just due to the busy night and the owner overbooking the tables to make a buck. But from talking with friends who have been there when it is not a holiday they are getting the same treatment. T

Friday night was my second time at Prime and although I was a little worried about strolling in without reservations, we were seated immediately. The table was kinda strange... the owner (I think she's the owner) said that it's her favorite but I'm still up in the air about it. It's a small, round table that is very tall and requires bar-stools to sit at it. Great location, but feels sort of funny because you are towering over the rest of the room. We each ordered a glass of their cheapest red which at $8 a glass hit the spot without breaking the bank. I wish they had more of a selection, especially for less expensive wines. There's definitely an overload of California wines which speaks volumes about Prime's Cali-pride but doesn't make for a very exciting wine list. We started with a split order of calamari 'cause we were hungryhungryHUNGRY. For dinner, Jonny ordered the prime rib, medium rare, which was cooked perfectly but looked a little fatty for my taste. I had the Chef's Special which is a flatiron steak with blue cheese and sauteed onions on top. I've been branching out from my "medium-well" habit so I asked for it to be cooked medium and it was so tasty that next time I might even go for the medium-rare. You can never go wrong with blue cheese and the sauteed onions were amazing with a carmelized taste and a hint of balsamic. They forgot to bring us bread which was fine with me because I'm not eating flour but that's sort of a staple when dining out and I could hear Jonny's tummy grumbling so I wish they'd brought some for him. The couple who sings on the weekends came over to our table and chatted us up and we absolutely love them. They are TOO cool and we will be back soon for their awesome covers like "At Last" and "Rollin' on the River" and some more tasty steaks!

The outside of the building is pukey brown? You can't miss it on Thompson, and I do applaud PRIME for working so hard to put Ventura on the map. The appetizers were good, but the best of prime PRIME was OVER cooked- the owner was a bit hysterical and defensive- I am sorry that I didn't like the meal enough, or her to go back for another chance

I belong to a group of four couples that dine out once a month. I recently picked this restaurant to try. We usually bring wine and pay a corkage fee. While their fee for the first bottle was only $15.00 it went up to $30 for each bottle thereafter.. On the plus side, they offered some of the wines I brought for less than it cost me to buy at Total Wines. The food was excellent and the fixed price meal was a great value. Service was all I could ask. I would recommend to anyone looking for a tasty and tasteful meal.

went for an anniversary, the food was good but the service was exceptionally slow. Took almost two hours to eat our meal. the restaurant was busy so we didn't protest. the next day the owner even called me saying she saw us leave and looked upset. I told here that even though the food was good it was pricey for the lack of service. and even getting our drinks refilled took to long. she said she was sorry and told me she would call me back after speaking to our waiter. 1 month later and still no call back. I wouldn't recommend this place. It was mediocre at best. other places in the area are defiantly better uses of your time.

The Easter Brunch was amaaazing. I am only sorry that they only do brunch on special occasions. The service was spot on. Cameron, our waiter, was not only friendly, but competent.

Loved it, great place with great food. The waitress prompt and attentive. The menu is pretty open with something for everyone. Our waitress suggested a bottle of wine that was fantastic. They also have a special that's four courses for only $35.00 bucks. I would totally go again.

Went with 3 others, with expectations of a quality steakhouse. The first indication of problems was the big screen with sports playing for the bar. The "locals" at the bar were not unusually loud, but were a distraction in the small (upscale?) restaurant. Our server was pleasant, enthusiastic, but often absent. Food was disappointing, the ribeye clearly "choice" not "prime", and I have never had a (USDA choice again) prime rib with crosshatched grill marks (dry and chewy). Perhaps it was last nights they had to reheat? Mac-n-cheese a zero, mashed average. The Caesar bland and the iceberg lettuce wedge, more suited to a truck stop. Nice upper end wine selection at reasonable restaurant prices. We labeled this as very disappointing and not a place to return. Better suited to those that want coupon deals, TV and not interested in quality, palatable food.

Prime was an amazing experience. The boyfriend and I went to celebrate our anniversary, we had the best experience that we have had to date dining in Ventura County. We went Saturday night with 7 o clock reservations, we were seated quickly, and greeted quickly by our waiter. We decided to do the choice of Prime, our waiter told us that there were even more additions to the choices. The meal was delicious, for appetizer we ordered the tuna tartare and chile rellenos (different but really good), we both had the wedge salad (blue cheese, tomatoes, onions, bacon), we both had the Prime rib one with macaroni and cheese (honest to God, to die for!!!) and one with Au Gratin potatoes (tasty, but I wished I had ordered the mac and cheese), and we topped it off with bread pudding (fantasmic, no lie). The waiters were super friendly, the live music was great for the atmosphere and pleasant, and the price is unbeatable. Also, we used the "check in" discount option because I saw it on yelp, they took twenty dollars off the check, no awkwardness that often comes with using a discount :). Honestly, go to Prime. You will be happy that you did. We will definitely be going back.

My husband and I had a tasty meal last weekend at Prime on February 13. Unfortunately, we ran into a few disappointments which overshadowed the food itself. First, were quite surprised that the Valentine's Day prices were in effect for the entire weekend. This was not advertised until we got into the restaurant. Their normal 4 course special was hiked up by 20/pp for the entire weekend. We went there to celebrate one last meal the two of us before the birth of our first daughter, not Valentine's Day. The waiter, Ryan, tried to push wine on us twice even though I obviously was ready to have a baby. We asked for water and he told us that we'd get it soon , but we waited for about 10 minutes and received nothing. He came back to check on us, saw that we didn't have water, and blamed it on his bus boy. My huband and I ordered the chile rellenos for the appetizer and were not disappointed. The food was great- baseball cut skirt steak, fresh asparagus and the best macaroni & cheese I've ever had. However, I still can't get over how snooty our server was. He basically ignored us for the rest of the night and didn't have our water refilled until we asked him. Again, it wasn't until about 15 minutes later that we got more water. I also noticed that he again threw his colleagues under the bus when a woman sitting near us noticed that her steak was undercooked. Rather than apologizing, he told her that he checked on the order he wrote down with the cooking staff and said they just did it incorrectly while rolling his eyes. Not too professional, buddy. I doubt your coworkers invite you out for drinks after your shift is over. Overall, the food was really good, but our service will make me think twice about dropping another 100.00 on a meal at Prime if we were to be treated like this again.

The short review: Having experienced eating at some overpriced/well known establishments and steakhouses (i.e., Ruths Chris, Lawrys, etc.) in the LA/Beverly hills and South Bay areas, very few have made an impression on me with stellar food and/or respectable service. Thankfully, Prime Steak house has both including wonderful live music, an extensive wine list, and an intimate non pretentious atmosphere with enuinely friendly service. Initially my bf wanted to treat me out to a nice dinner. I checked Yelp and we narrowed our choice between Watermark and Prime Steakhouse. He chose Prime Steakhouse and I'm glad he did. On the way there, my bf checked Yelp for directions and saw there was a special for Yelpers. What a great find! $10 off a four course meal of choice. This made the dinner even better! In all a wonderful find, great food, and exceptional service. Highly recommended. For more detailed review: AMBIANCE: Understated, but elegant. Because bf is not really a planner, we ended up without reservations (I would not recommend this esp on a weekend!), but we were lucky enough to be greeted by the maitre 'd, the owner and our server Dave and was immediately seated in our own private booth. The restaurant presented an intimate, yet unassuming setting with dim lights, black leather booths, deep woods, and oil lamps at each table and a small bar at the far end of the room. Perfect for casual romantic dinners and an evening with good company. Prime clearly has an established reputation with happy patrons enjoying good food and good wine. A private party was in a separate area, a few other patrons were also celebrating their special occasions, and live jazz, r&b and soul music was being played through the evening. Meanwhile the owner regularly mingled and checked up on guests as did our server. The evening remained intimate and relaxed. The workers appears to actually enjoy working there and quite efficiently and me being able to speak normally and still having a nice convo with my bf made me a happy girl. SERVICE: If I were to sum it up in two words, it would be "attentive ninjas". Quick, efficient, and blended into the background. Our server Dave kindly explained to us their specials, gave recommendations when asked and answered all our questions. He was patient, good natured, knowledgeable and professional. He even volunteered to take our picture a few times until it came out right--what a nice guy :). As our courses came we were given time to enjoy sampling our meal before being asked how it was. Our table was also quietly and efficiently attended to cleaned and arranged seamlessly between courses. We barely noticed our emptied plates being taken away and silverware being rearranged. We never had to flag down anyone for anything, and we were never unnecessarily bothered during our meal. Drinks automatically filled, trash speedily taken away, and plates cleared once we clearly finished. I was very impressed. I would give Prime five stars for their service alone. They work like a well-oiled machine. FOOD. Delicious and well portioned. You will definitely feel satisfied, if not full, in the end. My bf couldn't finish his prime rib and he LOVES steak! When it comes down to flavor, the food is prepared well with fresh ingredients. First course scallops in a cream sauce and bacon wrapped dates. Scallops were tender and a hint of sweetness with the light cream. The bacon wrapped dates were a nice blend of sweet and savory with the subtle ginger flavor and molasses honey like cure on the bacon. Second course we chose the Tender Baby Greens with poached pear, candied walnuts, granny smith apples, Gorgonzola cheese and red onion in honey balsamic dressing. From the bite of the greens, crunch of the walnuts, the coolness of the pear, crispness of the apple, bold sweetness of the dressing and the slight tang and sharpness of the Gorgonzola--easily one of my top 3 favorite salads. Main course and side was prime rib with house made cream horseradish sauce (bf loved). The prime rib was a perfect medium rare, soft, sweet, and tender. For the side, he surprisingly chose the "Smokey Six Cheese Mac & Cheese". Now, I like mac n' cheese, but I would never order it eating out. I mean its mac n' cheese no matter how well you dress it up, right? Wrong. Prime's mac n' cheese is like cheese Heaven. Bf describes it like eating a soft mozz cheese pizza without the dough then having that lovely smoky crunchy bacon like flavor on the top, but I'm pretty sure it was the cheese doing all the work. Cheese aficionados MUST try this. MUST. I had the ball park sirloin with baby asparagus. The rib eye was also cooked perfectly, sweet and tender. If I had to choose between the two cuts, I would probably lean towards the prime rib, but both were very delicious. In the end, we were both too full for dessert. Good thing :P In all, a perfect end to lovely Saturday evening. Great food with great company.

We had been putting off going to Prime due to the reviews but we decided one night to give it a try since we live within walking distance. Our experience was excellent from the beginning. First off, we had forgotten the coupon for their 4 course prime dinner but the owner (Jan) chose to honor the discounted price. Second, all the staff was very friendly and very attune to our needs, our wine (which was also excellent) glasses and water glasses were always full and they checked on us frequently. The food was worth at least twice the price we paid for it. Between the two of us my fiance and I got the chile relleno and crab stuffed mushrooms as the first course. The second course was the cesar salad (which had traditional cesar dressing) and the steakhouse wedge salad. Third course, he had the prime rib and I had the veal chop. Both were superb. They melted in your mouth and the veal was so moist and flavorful that you forget you are eating red meat! The fourth course was steak fries and the smoky 6-cheese mac and cheese (both were served as side dishes to the third course. To top it off we got their homemade bread pudding. Even my fiance, who is not a big fan of sweets, commented on how good it was. Overall I say Jan had done a wonderful job with her restaurant, it was a memorable experience and we will certainly be going back!

Me and my husband have been going to PRIME at least once or twice month for the past year or so, and we have NEVER had a bad experience there. I give it 4 stars and not 5 because of the service and the owner. Every time we go there is never a hostess and we are always stuck standing there waiting for one. If its during the week, the service isnt usually that bad. During the weekend, you usually will wait a little while. The servers are ALWAYS really friendly though and are trying their best, but you can tell they are understaffed. I would recommend them hiring a full time hostess that stands at the door like they are suppose to and not the owner. I don't think she should be dealing with any of the customers. The owner doesn't really seem like a nice lady and shes usually kinda rude. My husband and I are really laid back people with a ton of patience so this never really bothers us and the fact that the food is DEFINITELY 5 stars keeps us coming back over and over. We have NEVER had a bad experience with our food. We always get the 4 course meal and we have tried most everything on that menu. We love the mussels, tuna tar tar, not the wedge salad but the other one( cant remember the name) prime rib, and all the sides a great! Oh and the bread they put out before hand is addicting! We LOVE it! It can definitely be on the pricey side but its well worth it, it is our twice a month splurge. They always have coupons out though, that's what we love! Someone also mentioned on here there bread pudding being bad!? I am a huge bread pudding fan, and NO bread pudding has ever been better than theirs, it is my favorite and ive tried every bread pudding under the sun! I would definitely recommend PRIME :)

With my wife ready to deliver our second child at any moment we decided to have "the last supper". I picked Prime because I wanted to to try a new place. We walked in with no reservations and surprisingly were seated within 5 min. The hostess was not at her station when we entered but made her way to us in adequate time. We were seated by the bar unfortunately, but I am not going to complain with no Reservations, I had the Sampler dinner for $35, which is a 4 course meal. First up: Tuna Tar Tar- Very good! Spicy and savory. A great starter! Second: Cesar Salad: Awesome- I love Anchovies, and this salad had em! Third: 6 way Smoked Mac And Cheese- Pretty much awesome. Smokey and layered with a nice crust on top. Fourth: Prime Rib: Now I am not a Prime Rib Expert, but I am a Steak guy. There was way too much fat in this steak for me. I was constantly spitting out gristle and fat, also I asked for Medium, and I defiantly got a medium rare. The seasoning was great though. Desert was Ho-hum. Bread pudding, pretty dry and unmemorable, So everything except the desert and the PRIME rib was good, which is why I am knocking this baby down to a 3 star. The meal was very pricy, with a $140 price tag with tip for 2. We both agreed for that ammount we should have went to Brooks! On the plus side, my wife started pre-labor during this meal, and she delivered a beautiful baby girl abut 35 hours later!

Watch your step as you enter Prime because they now allow motorcycle parking in the restaurant. I dont care how small a town this is - this is just wrong. And the funny thing is that the next morning that same bike was parked in the side lot all by itself. Did somebody need a little attention that night? And by the way, do your sound system testing when the restaurant is closed. I come in to have some peace and quiet as I had thought you were more of an upscale place. Youve outdone yourselves with your decision making. Whats next, karaoke night? If youre really interested in being the restaurant you think you are, then read my review about Delius in Long Beach and maybe take a peek at their website. Thats how its done. Take notice. deliusrestaurant.com Thought we had a good thing going here, but I was wrong. Take care and good luck. And this has nothing to do with Sommer. Shes the best thing going on at Prime...

We went to Prime with friends this weekend and brought two bottles of wine to share. The server told us the corkage fee was $25.00 a bottle. We agreed and had him open both bottles. Towards the end of an enjoyable evening with friends the owner came to our table and made a big stink about us bringing wine. She said it was her happy hour and she was losing money by us bringing our own wine. She was very rude, condescending and basically spoiled the rest of our evening. What was interesting is we ordered beers, spent $50.00 on corkage fee's, ordered food, but I guess that was not enough for her although there were plenty of empty tables! I will never go back to Prime again.

I think Prime is much better than many reviews give it credit for. Thank goodness my husband had an open mind and took me last night, or I would have simply gone on the word of a few people, and missed a very good dinner. I read the other reviews, and to be honest I was not too excited about the thought of dropping $100 on a dinner that was sub-par, with so many other high-caliber restaurants in the area that we enjoy (Aloha, Johnathan's, Cafe Zack's, Scotch and Sirloin, California Grill in Camarillo). My husband convinced me to try it, and I went begrudgingly. I am SO GLAD I did. I had called earlier in the day to find out about specials, and spoke with a hostess who was not completely informed. However she WAS eager to answer my questions and asked the manager for assistance in order to give me the right information. When we arrived that evening, she remembered me and referenced our earlier conversation, noting the special we had come to enjoy. We were seated immediately at a clean table, simply decorated. Our waiter Justin was more knowledgeable about the wines than I expected. (I am a bit of a wine snob. Many times waiters suggest some of the more expensive wines on the menu just to push their bottom line. Grrr.. You know who you are.) He inquired about what we were to order, then suggested a few options and explained why they would complement our meal. I went with his recommendation and was very happy with its pairing AND value. He continued to check back regularly, though someone else delivered most of our food. All the courses came out in almost the perfect amount of time - we finished the current course just in time for the next to arrive. We both chose the "Best of Prime" 4 course dinner. My tuna tar-tare was WONDERFUL. One of my favorite dishes, Prime put a new delicious twist on this. The tuna was fresh, avocado creamy, and the cream wasabi dressing on the mixed greens really pulled together all the flavors. My husband had the gulf shrimp and he was also very happy. Our salads - the prime mixed greens and the wedge - were simple and well thought. Tasty dressings. Crispy almonds. Crunchy bacon. What else do you need? Entrees. I chose the stuffed salmon with savory mashed sweet potatoes. Yum! Creamed spinach inside salmon - not exactly figure friendly, but well seasoned and well cooked. The potatoes were a little loose, but not overly sweet and definitely original. My husband chose the stuffed chicken breast - moist, well cooked, flavorful yet not overpowering Gorgonzola cream sauce. And the 6 cheese mac n cheese...This is HANDS DOWN the best mac n cheese I have ever had! So smoky and decadent, beyond creamy, and more than I could have asked for in a mac n cheese. Original mix of cheeses too - Gorgonzola, cheddar, Asiago...don't remember the others, but I tasted them all!! We spent what we expected, and had a better meal than expected. As a Prime convert, I highly suggest people give Prime a shot of their own before casting aside a good restaurant for the faults of a few. Whether a bad review was a select instance - or whether the owners of Prime took heed and made changes after some mistakes- I do not know. But last night's dinner was good. Better than good. We will be back.

Fantastic, for Ventura! I went with girlfriends and we all enjoyed it. Many restaurants later, we all agreed this was our favorite outing so far. Gracious service, delicious food, wonderful ambiance. If you use their $25 coupon dealie-o, it's more than worth it....

Just had the most amazing dinner ever. Made a reservation for 715 but got there a little early at 7. That was no problem because the hostess remembered our last name and took us to the table right away. She explained to us their prime deal special which is a four course meal for only $35!!!! My husband and I decided to try it. He got the filet mignon and I got the chicken. Both were to die for!! Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Our waiter, Glenn, was amazing. He was friendly and quick with refills. The food came out in perfect timing and at perfect temperature. To top it all off, our waiter brought us out Delicious bread pudding. My only regret is that I don't lve out here to frequent the restaurant more often. Would give this place more stars if I could. Off the charts food, service and atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place!!!

Get only the four-course meal with the Baseball-Cut Steak, well, because they have the tendency to undercook their cuts. Also, stick to the Baby Greens Salad as the Ceasar one sucks and get the Ahi Tuna Poke as your appetizer. Get the house wine, it rocks, but don't order cocktails, the bartender sucks. It's on the pricey side, but you don't have to really dress up too much and it's not crowded since it's in a sketchy area and has an uninviting exterior. They have live entertainment which I found awkward for the small size of the place, but the lead singer is cool and I eased into it. I've been here three times and like it a lot.

The food was excellent and our server James was very personable and did a great job.My friends and I went out to celebrate some birthdays as well as date night. Excellent happy hour prices, amazing food, great atmosphere, well staffed, great service. I have been a customer here for over a year. I recently went in for happy hour and was told that the owner decided to stop happy hour at 6:30 instead of the usual time of 7:00 on Saturdays. I had never before had a problem, however I thought it was extremely rude and inconsistent. Very disappointed.

It was girls' night out. We were hesitant to go, because it looked like a place for romantics from the advertisements. However when we got there, it had a nice atmosphere, could be for romantics, however they also had sports tvs over the bar, and quite a large crowd at the bar (although it was not a noisy crowd- just nice enough. When we arrived there was no staff to seat us, nor did we see staff for quite awhile, I was almost ready to go up to one of the customers and ask if the restaurant was open for dinner when a waitress showed up. The staff was pleasant, helpful and unhurried and allowed us to enjoy the meal. We went for the chef special 4 course meal, because we had a coupon. The food was delicious, would recommend getting the salad dressing on the side. The salad was gourmet with walnuts, pear, apple and cheese. The tuna tartare was very nice, and so was the perfectly cooked salmon. The sauteed vegetables could have been spiced a little more, and could have been sauteed with less oil. The green salad was very special too. We felt we were really "treated". I'd recommend this restaurant for a special occasion or no occasion at all. It was just a very nice, relaxing experience (the middle of the week).

My husband and I invited 3 other couples to join us at Prime recently because we had such a great time there about a month ago when another couple invited us. The wait staff was great, starting with the great bartender when we arrived early so had a drink there. And then the server we had for dinner - she really knew how to take care of all of us. All of our meals were excellent and nobody went away hungry. We thoroughly enjoyed the musicians when we had been there previously (Encore) so we made a point of going back when they were playing again. And my husband and the singer realized that they were neighbors and friends when growing up over 40 years ago here in town! He is an excellent singer and we plan to go back on a regular basis to hear him (and hopefully enjoy more great meals!). All of the friends that went with us had a wonderful time and a great meal so also plan to go back again soon. Great restaurant!

Prime Steakhouse??? More like Well Done Steakhouse! My girlfriend and I went in on a Friday night and it was dead. That should have been a give away right there. We were seated right away and our server was very friendly and courteous. I got the rack of lamb and she got the prime rib. After 45 minutes we got our food. The lamb had no flavor and smothered in a bland tasteless gravy. The prime rib was an over done STEAK. It also had no cashew or horseradish sauce. When we told our server how our food was he said, the lamb is marinated in a lite white wine sauce so you could taste the meat not the spices. As far as the prime rib (aka) STEAK. It is a "Specialty Prime Rib" and thats how they cook it. This place might as well be named sizzler if you ask me. Whatever happened to Brooks? That place was good and if you're gonna spend that kind of money you got what you payed for. The atmosphere was nice night we went in. We sat right next to the couch there was a 2 person band playing and the girl looked like Tina Turner. All in all I wont be going back there.

I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant. Hubby and I went there on Thursday. The bar area was noisy, so, of course the greeter sat us a a table close to the bar. I had heard that this was a romantic restaurant. If romantic equals to "dungeon like" then O.K. I could barley read the menu (after moving it this way and that way under the dismal lighting). My husband could not see the menu at at.all. Suffice it to say we left without ordering and went somewhere else for dinner. My husband's comment when we left Prime, was that the parking lot at the back of the restaurant was better lighted. May have to try again when the sun goes down much later.

Do you want to pay for food that you didn't even eat ? My boyfriend and I were excited to celebrate our New Years Eve together to enjoy a nice meal and party after. We had reservations for 745. When we walked in no one was attending the entrance. After 15 minutes we were finally greeted but told that our table wasn't ready. Meanwhile, several patrons were walking in and had to wait to be seated. We finally get seated 20 minutes later to a table with a candle not lit, no napkins, or silverware. Our server came to the table and informed us she was "really behind and need to get caught up" she said she would be back. Another server by the name of Nathan came to take our drink order but we had to ask for menus since we were not given them upon being seated. Nathan was an exceptional waiter but is certainly working at the wrong establishment. We started our first course of Tuna Tartar which was tasteless and might I say I've enjoyed some of the best elsewhere. My boyfriend had the shrimp which he said was ok. Next, was the second course I had a Caesar salad that was pretty good but totally drenched in dressing. My boyfriend had the Wedge salad and thought it was good. It was time for the main course of Filet Mignon. It looked wonderful but as we sliced it and began to eat it. We notice it was bloody red and ice cold in the center. We informed our server Nathan and he offered to have it re-made. As we waited, we started to eat our sides of macaroni and cheese and twice baked potatoes. They were really good! Nathan came back to check on us and I informed him I didn't want my steak as I had lost my appetite. I took one bite of my steak and after couldn't help but to think I was eating raw meat. According to the FDA, it is unsafe to eat uncooked meat. Nathan said he would have the manager Jan come and speak with us. Jan came over and offered to have the steak re-made but I explained that I no longer wanted to eat the steak. She said "I can have it remade and I can package it to go but I cannot take it of the bill." We had to pay for something that wasn't eaten. We didn't want to argue so we paid our bill and left. Nathan was so sorry that she wasn't able to provide us service to please us after our poor experience. We will not be going back ! If you want to have a wonderful meal and exceptional service you might want to go to the Watermark downtown. Don't waste your appetite, time, or money at this place. The owner Jan sure needs to learn how to run her restaurant and certainly needs to learn what guest service is all about if she wants to keep her establishment open.

Very unimpressed & disappointed with this place. Our waiter was extremely rude and seemed like he hated his job. Not once did he smile or introduce himself or go the extra mile for the customer. Instead he wanted to argue with us about everything. Went on a Friday night and the place was so loud that I could barely hear the person I was sitting next to. The bathroom was also dirty and unkempt. If I'm paying 30+ per plate I would expect a clean bathroom. Food was so-so. The prime rib was good but, the sides were very bland. I will not be going back!

Nice little surprise in Ventura. Had the $39 Prime menu where you can pick an appetizer, salad, entree, and side. $10 Yelp check-in coupon brought that down to $29! Even at $39, it's a great value. The quality of food rivals that of much more expensive steakhouses. Though the presentation wasn't as fancy, the taste was right there if not better than the pricey steakhouses. This is what we had: Appetizer Mussels - pretty fresh in a cream sauce. I wasn't expecting the cream sauce, but it was nice. Crab stuffed mushrooms - this was a little disappointing in that the crab stuffing was way too overly seasoned with pepper to the point that it seemed too spicy. Salad Wedge - basic wedge salad, dressing was really good. Tender greens with pears - nice refreshing salad. Main Sea Bass - pretty basic sea bass, cooked properly. Prime Sirloin - only 2 cuts were using Prime grade beef - their prime rib and their sirloin. Though it seemed like most people went with the prime rib, I just did the sirloin for a little variety. The sirloin was cooked and seasoned properly. Sides Brussel Sprouts - I've had these at almost every pricey Steakhouse (Mastros, SW Steakhouse, etc.) and honestly they were the best here. Almost every place makes this dish way too salty, but they were lightly seasoned here and really tasty. Stuffed Baked Potato - had to have it, and it was great. Service was attentive, professional, and the waitress had a great attitude. I would definitely come back here.

Such a great place, perfect atmosphere, GREAT drinks! Second visit to this special restaurant. Must say, I didn't think it could get better but somehow it did. Started off with a Pear Martini (date's choice, it's winner), Arrancini (lightly battered risotto stuffed with serrano chile and shrimp, topped with fresh tomato and spicy scampi cream), Steak House Wedge (iceberg lettuce, hickory bacon, tomato, red onion and bleu cheese dressing), now time for a Basil Cucumber Martini to go with my Prime Rib (served with blue cheese marsala), and sauteed Fig Brussel Sprouts, all was totally unbelievably delicious. Date went with the Pear Martini, Arrancini, Caesar Salad (romaine, house made croutons and parmesan reggiano), tasty Pomegranate Martini to go with her unbelievably delicious Blackened Salmon (freska mango, spicy cream and a hint of honey, and Creamed Spinach. Really a great menu and tremendously talented chef!

I came here over the weekend to celebrates husbands birthday with a large party. I could not have been happier with the service or the quality of food. Jade was our waitress and she was fantastic and very attentive. The food was incredible and the prime rib is really all it's cracked up to be, probably one of the best steaks I've ever had at a restaurant. We will definitely be back.

The female bartender sucks. If you're not a guy and you want actual drinks and food----then don't go to this terrible girl. Food is amazing which is too bad because the service is terrible. We were told it was happy hour and that we wouldn't be charged anything for splitting their dinner special. After a couple more drinks had been ordered and we were half way through our meal the bartender came over to tell us our drinks were going to be full price. The manager kept making excuses for her, wouldn't listen and basically told us we were wrong...and while they did say that they would take ten dollars of the bill, that wasn't the point. The way the situation was handled was completely unprofessional. And I checked my bank account to make sure they weren't mad and decided to tack on a few dollars to my debit card, they didn't tack on anymore than the bill indicated but they didn't take the $10 off either. The barback was amazing on the other hand. He was incredibly professional, friendly, was able to answer all of our questions and tried his best to get the female bartenders attention. We felt bad for him cause she was making all of his tips. He was great and it was obvious he was getting frustrated and embarrassed for her lack of service skills.

We came here Christmas Eve. The place was bustling. We got the 4 course meal and it was more than enough food. The scallops and mac and cheese were other-worldly! The brussel sprouts were meh, won't get them again. The steaks were perfect. Our waitress was outstanding-- she didn't talk too much and she was always there at the right time. All the staff were pleasant and super-professional.

WORST FOOD POISONING EVER!!!!!! Stay away!!!!!!! The scalloped potatoes were practically liquid and the scallops literally almost killed me. The sauce was horrible but I tried to eat a little anyway. The prime rib should be named fat rib. Nasty. This place is beyond overpriced and very outdated as far as the menu goes. Save your money or go to a nice steakhouse like Larson's in Oxnard.

Good meal. Ate the best of prime four course special. There were three of us in our party and we tried different things. Everything was good but not fabulous. The stuffed chile appetizer was my favorite part. Service was very good, friendly and helpful. I would give it three and a half if I could. I don't think it deserves 4 stats because the seating is very h comfortable. The booths were much too low and unsupported. It was like eating on a bean bag and a TV tray. Also, the neighborhood and exterior appearance made us almost skip out on our reservation. Overall a good bargain with the $29 yelp check in deal for the 4 course meal.

We have eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. And since we were here on a Wednesday night which is half price wine night, we enjoyed a wonderful bottle of Laetitia pinot noir, along with our crusted risotto, and steak stuffed chile relleno appetizers as well as their flavorful tuna tartare (we traded bites because we were all raving about our appetizers). Our friend is a meat lover and enjoyed his perfectly prepared 36 ounce prime rib. Every time I drive by Prime I reminisce about their salmon with spinach and their amazing garlic mashed potatoes, and this time was as good as I remembered. Then there's their delicious bread pudding with a huge dollop of vanilla ice cream, fresh pretzel bread and friendly, professional service. Bonus-if you check in on Yelp their $25 best of prime coupon pops up, in case you forgot yours. My favorite local restaurant. We bring visiting friends here and they are very impressed.

Monday night was Prime time. January has been a tough month. For Mom and me, we decided that a serious bottle of wine and a steak dinner would set all to rights. First, our server Jade was fantastic. We have been to Prime before but enjoyed our evening even more with Jade's fun yet efficient service. First things first, we focused on the wine. We settled on a 2010 Caymus Cab. We can't go wrong there, right? So Jade decanted it for us. While waiting for the right time for the Caymus, we decided on two starters: a Caymus Pinot Noir and a Stolpman Syrah. The three course meal is our favorite option. You can pick an appetizer, soup or salad, and a main course for $35. We have enjoyed the bacon-wrapped scallops, the bacon-wrapped dates stuffed with goat cheese, the stuffed mushrooms, the Wedge salad, and the baby greens salad. For dinner, we like the prime rib and the rib eye with brussels sprouts and potatoes au gratin. The meals are solid and we are consistently satisfied. Desert? Do you really have to ask after all of that food? After the three course meal, we let our stomachs settle by finishing off the wine. The wine list isn't racy, but it's solid. There are wines worth decanting and wines by the glass worth drinking. The mark-up is minimal compared to other restaurants. There are even monthly wine dinners, this month with Caymus. All in all, Monday was a Prime night indeed!

Had a great time! The food was amazing. I ordered the special four course dinner for $39 and got it for $29 for checking in on yelp! Our server was very attentive, each course came out at the right time. My steak was cooked perfectly, the appetizers were great. They also have live music that wasn't overbearing. I will return again! Thank you Prime Steakhouse!!

Diner beware of bar girl (disclaimer: this post is a rant towards issues we had and not towards a review of the food itself) As an out of towner my mother and I wanted to try a good steak house. So we choose prime based on the great reviews of yelp. When we arrived we were told a 20 min. wait for a table. First red flag of the night was the waiting area. 3 chairs next to the restroom! So if smelling urine and gas residue is your thing, then please read no more and enjoy!! To make matters worse my mom orders a drink to pass the time and the bartender girl deliberately ignores our order! How do we know it's deliberate? We wait 10 minutes for her. - No drink Complain to the hostess. - No drink Complain to the hostess again 2x! - No drink 5 Customers who came AFTER us get served their drinks BEFORE us and.... - No drink And we saw the hostess tell her verbally about our complaints and she could have not cared less. I understand if she may have been really busy or did not understand the order. But once the hostess told her the first time, she made 5 drinks for other customers. And then she proceeded to bar banter and explain wines to customers who came after us. She never looked at us once even though we were right next to the bar. But when the manager came and apologized to us, low and behold this bar girl suddenly remembers our order and starts to make the drink. Thankfully the manager told us she would personally make her drink and threw the bar girl's save face drink away. Never once did the bar girl say sorry to us or even acknowledge us post manager complaint. It should never take 30 mins 2 hostess trips and 1 manager visit for 1 drink!! This was the most unprofessional experience I ever witnessed. It's bush league, insulting, and has no place in an establishment like this. I don't know what her issue was, never once did we yell or show any negativity towards her. Perhaps she was prejudice, having a bad day, or didn't like the way we dressed. It really doesn't matter, customers should always be shown respect. Overall the manager was good, the hostess was really great (Vincent), and our waiter was good as well. The food itself is okay, but because of that bar girl nothing on that whole menu could have salvaged our experience there. Really disappointing.

My wife and I enjoyed our first visit here at a late evening hour the day before Valentine's. We weren't the only couple avoiding the rush, so the place ended up being fairly lively. The hostess found the quietest table for us away from the bar crowd. We were immediately attended by one of the best wait staff we've ever had. Helpful w/o being intrusive. Cheerful. Incredibly quick for the hour and the number of diners. Our hors d'oeurves and drinks came within a couple minutes. Salads and entrees were nicely timed, too. We chose the introductory fixed price menu of four courses and enjoyed every morsel. The beef was cooked exactly as we wanted and tasted a grade above the ordinary steakhouse--fresher and fuller taste. No question, we'll be returning at least by same time next year.

Just got back from Prime, and it was wonderful! The prime rib was grilled, adding just the right amount of crispy char to my medium pink steak. Wedge salad was crisp, and the blue cheese was perfect. My husband's rib eye topped with mushrooms and onions was as flavorful a steak as we have had in a long time. I love that the mushrooms and onions were just lightly sautéed, still crisp. Service was great. Ryan was very attentive and did an excellent job in pacing the meal. We love having some time in between courses. Side dishes were a little hit and miss. The mac and cheese had an interesting smoky flavor, but just a few bites was enough. And the scalloped potatoes were plain. I love Flemings potatoes with cheese and jalapeño, and these did not compare. The ambience is nice enough, although I would not want to be in the front room. When you walk in from the outside it feels like you step right into the dining room, with no lobby at all. Finally, as noted by other reviewers, don't let the neighborhood fool you. Although we joked about what we could pawn in the pawn shop across the street to pay for the pricey (worth it!) meal.

Old time fancy restaurant ambiance. Small initmate place. A bit dark inside...but very nice! We chose the "4 course best of Prime" special What we got: You get fresh breads with butter, and a garlic spread to put on it. The bread was warm, fresh, and tasty. The homemade pretzel bread that was incredible! If you like garlic, you will love the garlic spread!! 1st course: Tuna tar tar and th prime rib stuffed chili relleno. Both were great. The tuna was like good sushi, and the prime rib stuffed relleno was delicious and satified our craving for prime rib! 2nd course: The wedge salad, and baby greens salad. Both were good, but my wife, who ordered the Wedge, said she would get the babygreens. The baby greens very good. A sweet salad with fruit and nuts. 3rd course: Lamb chops, and stuffed salmon. The lamb was done to perfection(my perfection is med rare to med). The sauce was great. Some of the best lamb i've ever had! My wife had the salmon. She said it was good! 4th course: Scalloped potatos, and creamed spinach. If you love garlic, you will love these sides! Both were fantastically good. Cheesy garlicy potatos baked to perfection, or Creamy garlicky spinach... you can't go wrong!

Tonight, my husband and I went to Prime Restaurant and enjoyed an excellent Prime Rib dinner with the scallops as an appetizer and ceasar salad . When I asked the waitress to take our picture, she asked if it was a special occasion and I told her I was my birthday. After dinner, she brought me a nice little dessert for us to share, compliments of the house. She was an excellent waitress, the food great. and the Sinatra imitator singer was delightful. We'll definitely come back!

Yum! Had the four course dinner; well worth the cost, especially with a local coupon! Delicious wedge! Good prime rib and garlic mash; nice environment. The most outstanding aspect was our waitress Jennifer! Very attentive, informative, not overbearing, and able to carry a to the brim-full-martini without a lost drop!! She knew her menu answered all questions easily and well! A gem! I work in a service industry, and good service makes the meal. We'll be back!

My Wife and I went here after a day out on the boat. All I can say is fabulous. I had the prime rib queen cut and I was totally blown away and satisfied. The live music was a total plus in my book. My wife had the Australian lamb and it was pretty good a bit dry, therefore the 4 of 5 stars. If you are in ventura for any reason or haven't tried Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar yet, please do!

This was our third meal and our last! First time salmon was great, next time no flavor for the salmon and we just went there for new years and a bunch of us thought the baseball cut of meat was tough and tasteless! There are better places in town to buy cheaper and more favorable dinners, goodbye Prime!

I like this place a lot! I don't know of anywhere in Ventura with a better happy hour. Not only are the deals good at happy hour, but the food is amazing. I have also been just for dinner. The place can be a little pricey for some things, but watch for coupons. They generally have offers every week for a four course meal. I recommend using the coupon on a Saturday night so you can also enjoy live music. Great environment...great food...friendly staff...nice deals...good drinks. Yeah, that looks like five stars to me.

I enjoyed the meal I had at this restaurant. The wine list is impressive and the owner seems to really know her wines, which is a definite plus. I had bacon-wrapped scallops as an appetizer and felt they were fabulous. This was followed by a salad with pears, candied walnuts and gorgonzola cheese--also very special. We ordered the prime rib as our entree. I must say we were somewhat let down by the prime rib. Even though the meat was well cooked to order and tasted great, it just didn't seem like prime rib! They put grill marks on it and it looked and seemed more like a steak than prime rib. I would definitely recommend this place. Would probably not order the prime rib again.

My boyfriend and I took a spontaneous mini vacay to go wine tasting near Santa Barbara but stopped to spend the night in Ventura. We entered and the atmosphere was definitely romantic - dim lights, live entertainment singing nothing but soulful/R&B oldies, and 2 HDTVs playing football games at the bar. =) I checked in on Yelp and received a discount on their pre-fix 4-course meal. Here's the run down First Course - Tuna Tartare (LOVED it!!!) Crab-stuffed mushrooms (only comes with 3 mushrooms but sufficed) Second Course - Baby Greens (if you like sweet flavors of fruit and savor of nuts in your salad then you'll enjoy this salad) Wedge Salad (boyfriend liked the bacon and the blue cheese dressing) Third Course Filet Mignon (not the best I've ever had but tasted exquisite with the scalloped potatoes) Rib-eye steak (boyfriend liked it as it was juicy and tender and not fatty) Fourth Course Twice Baked Potato - a big portion with a lot of cheese! (I opted for the scalloped potatoes and asparagus that came with the filet mignon - definitely a must!) Dessert Bread Pudding - can't eat it alone because it's a huge portion! All this plus 3 glasses of wine and coffee came out to ~ $125 = worth it for all the fine dining we had for the night including the ambiance and friendly service (Ross was great)! Will definitely go back if we had the chance to be around the area again.

Went here on a Sunday night in December for a friends dinner. It was fantastic. The service was great. The drinks were very good. The food was absolutely delicious. We all shared and all of it was amazing. It can be a little pricey but what do expect when you are fine dining?? Overall, a great place to wine and done.

We happened upon this quaint spot Saturday for dinner. Surprisingly, there was a live cover band playing. The husband & wife team were pretty good singers but overall very entertaining. I opted to try the four course meal for $35 and it is pure awesomeness. I had the salmon and my friend had the prime rib. The Mac & Cheese, 4 Cheese Mashed Potatoes were perfect sides. The wait staff is beyond friendly and accommodating. The prime rib was cooked at the perfect temp and delicious. The salmon was cooked to perfection. I'm happy to recommend this place to others and I definitely will take the long drive back to eat here again.

I don't know why my prior review is not showing, but here it is again: Forced to pay for food we sent back and never ate! Just awful ! Went there with my gal on a Saturday night for a nice romantic dinner. We had reservations for 7 PM. Our waiter was nice, but the service was a bit on the slow side, I figured this was due to the weekend crowds--but the food was sub par. My dinning partner ordered a mixed drink, which was ok. I ordered a Seven and Seven in a tall glass, but they brought out a short glass which tasted like whiskey and soda water. I told the waiter about it and he said "no problem- I remember you did order a tall. The replacement drink was all booze and no Seven, which would please a lot of the heavy drinkers in the place, but I prefer a nice mixed drink when I order one. I decided I'd just stick with ice water. Looking at the "special menu" recommended by the hostess, I chose the PRIME four-course meal with Prime Rib as the main course. My gal also picked the four-course meal but went with grilled chicken and creamed spinach. They brought us some bread slices, which were great. No one had asked if we wanted more bread or more water. The first course came out about fifteen minutes after we ordered- for me it was Tuna Tar Tare- not bad. Hers was some shrimp. The salad for me came out after another ten minutes. I had a wedge, which was not a wedge, just a slice of lettuce. My partner had some soup, which was the best part of the meal. Once those were done, we sat for half an hour with no one checking on us. The owner was busy fawning over a table of people to the right of us. At that point I figured that it would be best to go elsewhere but it was my gal's first time and the reviews seems to reflect a great dinning experience from others. After forty minutes from our initial order being submitted, a server showed up with our food and quickly left, never to return. I had ordered an end cut of Prime Rib, but this piece of meat looked like a bar-b-qued pork shoulder. It was slightly warm, dried out and tasteless. My partner's chicken was cold, old and dry. Her creamed spinach had un-melted cheese inside. We pushed our plates aside and waited for someone- anyone to come over and check on us. After ten minutes of staring at the staff, a different young gentleman came by to ask if we wanted doggie bags. I said the food was terrible, tasteless, and cold. He asked if we wanted him to reheat it! He removed the food and headed to the back. The couple at the table next to us said their food was cold and tasteless as well, but they weren't going to say anything until they heard me complain. Our server came by and asked what the problem was and I told him. He said he'd take care of it. I said I would be happy to pay for the drinks and the two courses that we consumed. He said he agreed with that. Upon his return, he said the owner refused to only charge us with only what we ate, and that we would have to pay the whole bill, including the food that we sent back! I went to talk to her ( her name is Jan) but she refused to only charge us with the items we consumed, but did offer to give us a free meal the next time. I said the food was so bad, we would never come back. I again asked her to charge us what we ate, but she flatly refused and claimed they could not resell the food and that we had to pay. She said no one else was unhappy with the food. I told her to ask the table next to us as they had the same complaints. She said she was "not going to go there". Then she said she was going to have to ask me to pay the bill and immediately leave her restaurant. I said I had no bill yet! She claimed it was on the table, but it was not. The server had been holding the bill. I paid and we left. Stay away from PRIME and Jan the owner !!

What a little gem of a joint. The happy hour special is quite appealing with their drink prices and starters at half price. The live band is entertaining, fpor 2 people who ordered a total of 4 drinks and 6 (yes, we are oinkers) appetizers, the bill came out to only $60. Now that is pretty saucey, I will have to come back and give it another go! Word of advice, get here at the start of happy hour, it gets quite packed and the stuffed mushrooms are not much, you get 4 little mushrooms the size of quarters on a really large plate, skip this choice and go for the tuna tar tar and the prime rib tacos!

First time visit was Sunday evening. Honestly, it was one of the better dining experiences we have had in a very long time!! Mr. R was thinking about taking family here for his 40th so we wanted to check it out. It's an intimate dining experience for sure. 6:30 seemed to be the best time to go for dinner, not crowded despite two large groups having dinner. By checking in with Yelp, we received a coupon for the 4 course meal - definitely took advantage of it! It's usually $35 per person and our coupon was for $25. The food was delicious!! With the meal, we each had our own starters (Mr. R. had the gulf shrimp, I had bacon wrapped scallops), salads (Mr. R had the steak house wedge, I had the tender baby greens), sides (Mr. R had creamy spinach, I had asparagus spears) and prime rib. I'm not one for prime rib but man, this was great!! The portions are big and well worth it. Service was great. Our server was the manager and she was very attentive and welcoming. From seating us, to drink orders, to ordering and finally the bill, we had no problems with timing or being served. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Looking forward to a return trip.

Was our first time at Prime, and had a FABULOUS time and a SCRUMPTIOUS dinner!! Went for my husband's birthday, with our 2 teenage children. The 4 Course Prime Meal, and with the coupon, made it for a great value. Our favorite 1st course was the prime rib chile relleno. YUM! The steak, prime rib, and stuffed salmon were all great. To top it off, the vocalist (with a very big and kind heart) came and serenaded my husband with a personalized birthday song. The wait staff and all we encountered were extremely professional AND friendly. Will go there again for a date night! As long as we can find the coupon again!!

I question the objectivity/honesty of the other reviews of Prime. Prime is over priced and average to below average. Even if you use the coupons that pour into your mail each week it is not worth it. Which is why I ask myself, if the food and service is really any good, why so much coupon marketing? For a "high end" steak house. It has been opened long enough to have a good following and word of mouth growth. Tried the place twice and Jan the owner does not create an enjoyable dining environment. A sense of desperation for every possible up sell. Sorry but the Watermark is a much better meal and value. Came again with other friends - Sat in the music room on a good night - All food MUCH better (same fairly lame server . . . but didn't ruin anything much less the evening, the entertainment or the meal - - - all very very good) and the VALUE with the regular weekly coupons is special! I'm a fan now - - give this place a 2nd chance. Real rating against its peer group has jumped from a 3.0 to a 3.8+

My wife and I came here with our friends for happy hour. We had a wonderful time! I know that it's been mentioned in the reviews already but allow me to join in saying that the Happy hour here is with out a doubt the best that i have seen in the area. The prices were fantastic for the food and the drinks. The food was delicious, (Try the Prime Rib Tacos!!!!) the drinks were excellently made. The service was very good, even though they were busy. The (live) music was great. Not terribly loud either, we were able to have a nice conversation but still enjoy the music. Over all had a great time I would go back in a heart beat. If I could rate 6 Stars i would.

Took my mom to Prime for a belated mother's day. Everything was excellent. Food was great, service was great, atmosphere was very nice. All in all it was a wonderful evening. You have to try the bread pudding for dessert!

I came here on a whim with my wife after we came across an ad for them in a mailbox flyer. The fix menu they advertised sounded really good so we decided to give them a try. I couldn't decide on what to get for the first course because they all sounded really good. As ask our server, who took great care of us, what she recommended and she confidently replied that the tuna tartar was the best. Even though it wasn't one of the dishes I was considering I decided to try it and was really happy that I did because it was awesome. After that I got a salad which I ate every single leaf of lettuce of off, and if you knew me then you would know that a salad would have to be pretty good to get me to do something like that. The steak was excellent, no surprise there, and I like the au gratin potatoes a lot too. Oh yeah, don't be confused by the 4 course menu. Course #4 is a side dish to your entree, not a dessert. Overall, we had a fantastic meal. If you are a big fan of blue cheese then you won't be disappointed. They used it on my salad, my steak, and even my martini! (CEO martini with stuffed olives).

Our family visited this place on a Wednesday evening. We had reservations and upon walking inside our greeter confirmed the reservation and then pointed to a booth. In nicer restaurants, I would expect having our party walked to our table and seated. Our waiter was prompt and pleasant, but failed to mention any menu specials or wine specials until after I asked. The overall atmosphere was nice, décor was elegant, and good live music in the background. However, looking out our large window at a pawn shop and liquor store reminded me that I'm still in mid-town Ventura. FOOD: We ordered two tuna tartars, Caesar salads, baked macaroni & cheese sides, a prime rib (16 oz.), and a baseball steak. The tuna was excellent and good size as either in course #1, or off the appetizer menu. The Caesar was good, but was chopped and pre-mixed, with a little more dressing than I prefer. The salad size was very good. The prime rib was tender and prepared as requested. However, the waiter failed to let me know my three options for garnishments. The baseball steak was cooked (med. rare) to order but was on the tough side. Prefer the baseball at Aloha much better. Overall a good experience, but really only give it 3.5 stars for lack of attention to detail, waiter issues, and quality of steak. I might give it another try during happy hour to feel like I'm getting a better deal for the quality of food and service.

Customer service lacked completely. We show up as walk ins and were willing to wait for a table to come available. We were not given a wait time after we asked for one, but they asked us to sit in the back and they would come let us know. After 10 minutes, we decide to approach them since they hadn't gotten back to us, only to find out they're not taking walk-ins. We would've probably been waiting there patiently otherwise. Thanks a lot

Best Happy Hour Deal and Menu Around! Nothing complicated here - nice atmosphere, drinks, service and menu. I come here for the happy hour prime rib tacos which are to DIE for, and at a killer price at that. Can't wait to try their new Agoura Hills location.

Had the best of Prime four course sampler for my in-laws 40th. Man where to start? This place amazed me. The first course was a Chile Relleño that was very flavorful and meaty. I believe it had prime rib in the center. The second course was the wedge salad with bacon (the real deal not some kind of artificial synthetic creation). The blue cheese was good but not over powering. The next course was the Prime Rib. This stuff was so easy to cut and melted in your mouth like butter (yes butter is good for you.) The dippin sides were scrumptious as well. The horseradish sauce was tasty and spicy but not to the point where it would blow your sinus cavity out. The mac and cheese was one of the best in town sorry 805 Grilled Cheese. To top it off we had a wonderful couple singing songs from 50's-60's in house that would give any of the best out of Motown a run for the show. Thanks Prime, my in-laws had a most memorable 40th!

I've eaten here a ton. There are a few things they don't do well, but I've settled on the baseball sirloin and I'm always a happy camper now. Twice baked potato is awesome, mashed are great, and the macaroni is pretty good, too. They're priced high for the quality, but not so high that I won't go there for a good steak. Wine list is great, too, and the owner does tons of drink specials. Sign up for their email list after checking em out!

Loved the scene! Frank Sinatra look a like sang for us all night on a Tuesday! We had chile relleno, scallops wrapped in bacon are the best combination for appetizer. Prime steak cooked just right! Cant wait for our next celebration to come back here.

`My new favorite restaurant in Ventura! Amazing Food and Excellent Service!! My boyfriend and I had never been but decided to give it a shot for our anniversary after seeing the deal for The Best of Prime 4 course meal. Everything we order exceeded expectations and was so tasty. I had the Tuna Tartar which was excellent and had a great kick of spice with the wasabi and my man had the bacon wrapped scallops (also amazing with crispy bacon and a rich sauce). The caprese salad and caesar were both good but the star of the evening was the prime rib and the macaroni and cheese. The meat was perfectly cooked with a great sear on the outside and the macaroni was mind-blowing with a nice oven baked, cheesy crust on the top. Appetizer portions are a lil small (you only get 2 scallops) but we couldn't finish our dinners and ended up taking some home with us. Kate was our server and she took really good care of us and made our experience even more special. We never had to wait for anything we requested and she paced our meal perfectly so we were never overwhelmed with food but also never waited long between courses. She made great suggestions on food and wine for us and even took the time to take a photo for us to remember our anniversary. Thank you Prime for the excellent dinner and for the stellar service. We will definitely be back!

I agree with many of the reviews of Prime Steakhouse. The service is very slow. Once our orders were taken, no one came to check on us, or refill our water glasses. The food was so so. Thankfully we had a gift certificate so we didn't have to pay for the $100 meal. The real problem with the establishment though isn't the service or the food, it's the owner...Jan! This woman is very rude! She got into arguments with 2 couples seated on either side of us and MADE them pay for items that they did not eat! She needs to learn a bit about customer service. This would have never happened anywhere else!

Awesome little gem! Service was great and the food was scrumcious! I went on a saturday and they had live music which made the dinning experience just that much better. Our server took his time explaining several items on the menu as well as items off the menu which was kinda nice. The prime rib was cooked to profection, I also tried the bacon wrapped figs and OMG they were delish! I'll definetly be dinning there again soon.

My family comes here quite often for their price fix menu ($40 for three courses- appetizer, side, and main). Make sure you make reservations, however, and that they actually are offering their price fix menu for that day (we came on a holiday and they said they weren't offering it, which pissed my dad off majorly). The hostess was a little condescending in general, but the servers were really nice, which I appreciated. The first time I went, I got the tuna tartar, which was amazing. It was the first time I had tartar of any kind, and I enjoyed it. The avocado balanced out the heaviness of the raw fish. The second time, I got bacon-wrapped dates. Now, I don't actually like bacon, but I actually enjoyed this appetizer. The bacon and dates paired really well together. As for the main dishes, I would go with the various steaks/cuts of beef they have, rather than the other dishes. My sister's tried the baby back ribs and my mom's tried the salmon, and they both ended up less satisfied with their dishes than my dad and I, who had steak. I've tried the filet mignon, which was pretty good, but I think my dad's baseball cut of steak was the best (not sure if that's the correct term, but whatever). It is good to keep in mind that this is a steakhouse, after all... I don't remember too much about their side dishes. Their fries are decent, but nothing spectacular. And their bread basket actually has quite the variety of bread, which is nice. Overall, a good deal for a nice steak dinner.

3.5 stars In hopes to treat our Moms. My better half and I called around on a Sunday afternoon for a nice early dinner out in Ventura before heading back home to OC. Initially we called Watermark but they don't serve dinner on Sundays... So without any expectations, we decided to go to Prime for a good old steak dinner. Located bit off the main downtown area, across the street from a fine looking pawn shop, Prime feels like a miniature Mastros. Decent decor with lots of leather, bronze, gold and brown tones. Great looking bar. As soon as we entered, we were promptly seated and greeted with warm and attentive smiles. Like a good Yelper, I checked in as soon as I sat down and what is this? A $10 off deal for a four course $35 prime rib dinner?? Its on! I loved the whole save $10 off idea but I was bit skeptical... how good can a four course $35 prime rib dinner be? Next opened the wine list. and WHAt!? a decent list and darn good prices?! 2010 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon for $80ish... (that's only a 1X markup)... and sale on a 2009 GROTH CABERNET SAUVIGNON OAKVILLE for under $100 (Sold!) So we decided to open the first and decant the second and waited for our meal. All the food was prepared deliciously and the portion size was just right for a grown man. So to sum it all up.... Food for the price was great and service was awesome. My definite go to in Ventura for a nice bottle of wine and steak. Happy eating - R

I have been coming here for 5 years. The food has been pleasant, but not outstanding. Now they have become extremely expensive. I will not return. For a small piece of sea bass, small expensive sides, a satisfactory steak (but placed alone on the plate - yuk) and two glasses of wine filled to 1 1/2 inches, the bill was an astounding $115. For this amount I could eat at the Grill in Westlake or entertain 10 people at my house. Never again.

I read the reviews prior to going to Prime Steakhouse and thought it sounded really good. We showed up at about 4:45 for happy hour and I'm glad we went early. The place filled up quickly and now I know why. The food was really good, prices on drinks were very reasonable and the atmosphere was excellent. It felt like a very high end restaurant similar to Flemings or Morton's but a quarter of the price. I highly recommend it!

Service is always great. Our server Ryan was awesome!! There were 4 of us and he was great. Tried the Brussels sprouts-we'll definitely have it again. Tuna tartare was very tasty and well presented, the steaks we're cook perfectly, and it was an awesome time with wonderful friends.

This has become our go-to restaurant to bring friends, as well as our romantic dinner spot for Anniversaries, etc. The ambiance is very romantic; dark, with pretty little crystal chandeliers hanging over each table in the front of the house. A beautiful bar area that makes it feel a little old-world club. The back room is more intimate with subdued lighting and interesting artwork on the walls. This is where the entertainment happens, which is always excellent, if a little loud. Do make reservations, if you are not sitting in the bar area, or you will be in for a long wait. The booths and tables are comfy and you don't get rushed here! Jan, the owner, has always greeted us warmly and now knows our names. We have attended a few of her once-monthly wine dinners, which we really enjoy and she does a great job of describing the wines and where they come from. They are paired with the wonderful food, and there are usually about 7 wines featured with about 5-6 courses. She is not stingy with the pours, either: if you really liked the wine, ask the waiter for another splash, and it will keep coming! The wines are sold at restaurant costs, and are a great value. The Best of Prime menu is what we usually order from; there are always coupons to be found either mailed or in the Ventana Magazine, and they don't expire! (Shhhh!) Our favorite is really the prime rib; we love that they grill it, giving the meat that extra carmelization that adds so much flavor. We always try to order different appetizers and sides, so we can taste everything. It is always so good! The bacon wrapped scallops and the tuna tartare are our favorites, but we have tried the Arancini, and it was a marvelous surprise. Hubby is a wedge salad guy, and I will try everything else. Never disappointed! And the sides; oh, the sides! Smoky 6 mac and cheese, mmmm. Or the creamed spinach; or the garlic mashed. It is too hard to decide. We love the professionalism of the wait staff; they are very well trained, but not stuffy or snobby! Paulino, you rock! But everyone there is excellent, and for that reason, we will continue to make Prime Steakhouse in Ventura (and the newer one in Agoura) our special dinner out restaurant of choice.

Tried to orders a filet mignon well done and butterflied. Came back whole and rare. Sent it back. It came back medium rare. Sent it back a third time and still came back under done. When brought to the attention of the owner, Jan Copeland, she replied "you people are overreacting and I can't deal with this." Instead of just apologizing and taking care of it, she made excuses as to the problems in the kitchen (which as a consumer I should never know about) and told us she didn't want making a scene. My family and I will never come back. I only did one star because 0 stars was not an option.

The New York Strip was terrific and holds it's own against most upper end steak houses. Service was a little slow, but i didnt mind as it was a pleasant atmosphere. The staff was very warm and friendly. I would definitely go back for another New York Strip.

Probably the toughest Filet Mignon I ever had :-( and I mean it in a bad way. Expensive cut of meat but could hardly cut with a knife. Not sure if its the dull knife, pretty sure its the bad piece of meat in my plate, go figure. On the positive side, service was Very GooD!!!

EXCELLENT FOOD & SERVICE! Frustrated with mediocre, overpriced corporate steak restaurants in L.A. We were ready to drive to Delmonico's in Vegas for a great steak when we discovered Prime on Yelp. Prime exceeded every review in every area. The food was excellent, the service was friendly & the ambiance was comfortable. We were amazed to find a four course meal offered in this day & age, especially so reasonably priced. We've recommended Prime to our friends, and will continue to do so. Prime isn't Delmonico's but, it puts all the "big name" steak houses in the L.A. Area to shame with fresh high quality food perfectly prepared.

Went on Saturday to celebrate my friends birthday, and all I have to say is that the food and service was fantastic. Our waiter was great, funny and very helpful. And the only reason I am giving them 4 stars is because even though we made reservations we still had a long wait. If you are planning on eating here, do make sure to make reservations.

We discovered this classic steak house on a recommendation by Siri when visiting Oxnard. First off, the staff was excellent. Friendly, prompt, and informative. The wine list and wine specials were also remarkable. They have an extensive list and a selection of top notch bottles at a very good value price point. We had a bottle of Silver Oak that I've seen for 50% more at other establishments. The food prices were not inexpensive but in the range I expect for a good steak house. The multi-course meals made ordering simple but really were just a few bucks less than ordering off the menu. My prime rib was ordered rare but I thought it was a tad too cool to the touch. They remedied it quickly and cheerfully. My wife had a filet that she enjoyed. The sides were solid, especially the creamed spinach. But the Ceasar was just OK. There was a lounge act in the next room and they were pretty smooth. One negative was that some smokers were near the door and the stench came in for a few minutes. A sign asking smokers to step away from the door might help. Parking was ample on the street and I believe they also have a lot. All in all, I would say this is a great local hang out and you will not be disappointed. If I lived nearby I'd be a regular too

Very bad service by our waitress. she did not come to our table unless we asked for something. My friends were happy with their food but will not go back because of the terrible service. The manager blew us off when we talked to her about our concerns with the waitress. She told us how how great the waitress is. Well, she was NOT great to us. We go out to a nice place to eat good food and receive great service. We did not receive great service. Also, my ahi tuna Cesar was smothered in too much dressing and the ahi over cooked.

Went for hubby's bday last night. Service good. Prime rib horrible! Cheap cut. Tough & chewy! Sent it bk hoping they would get it right 2nd time. But it was just as bad! Was too embarrassed in front of friends to send it bk again so I kept it. For a place that claims excellent prime rib, I was terribly disappointed. Never going bk. & they charged us 20% gratuity. Not happy.

Not sure how to give this restaurant any less stars but I drove up all the way from southern CA for a nice evening and the manager on the voicemail, Vanessa I believe her name is did not call us back after 2 days then we called to see if we could get in and got told we were being RUDE for be upset that we could not get seated until after 8pm that night then hung up on when I told her that was unacceptable! I will NEVER recommend this place or ever consider coming up here for this restaurant and I am a very considerate person, farm girl and all, but don't treat people like SHIT.

The food was Great. The Tuna Tartar was very good. The Crab stuffed mushrooms was too good. Brussel Sprouts with Bacon and Dates was amazing... still not as good as mine though... Lol I would of preferred less fat and more meat but what can you expect for a $39 4 Course meal at a steakhouse!!!

Thanksgiving feast! What a fabulous spread! Did the spinachbwontons for first course, baby greens for the second (don't let the name fool you...that's one amazing salad!) then the Chilean sea bass for the main course... Best sea bass I've ever had...and full serving of turkey and all the fixings, to boot. Ended up being too full for desert. Only reason not giving a full 5 stars is that we got the worst seat in the house, right next to the door, so we were constantly getting blasted by cold air every time it opened, which was quite frequently. Despite that bit of disappointment, I do recommend this if you want thanksgiving out (reservations are a must), and we'll be back next year.

We dined here for my husband's birthday last night. Dinner service was suprisingly elegant. My four courses included mussels, Caesar salad, steak, and mashed potatoes. The mussels were the highlight of the meal, served in an interesting creamy tomato base. The salad was a flop but the steak was terrific and made up for the miss. Loved the live music. Perfect place for a romantic evening!!!

Best fine dining in Ventura. With yelp check-in, it's an amazing deal. Four course menu is enough for the hungriest person at $29. Regularly $39 without yelp coupon. Seated at the bar by myself and the bartenders are AMAZING servers. Walked in at Saturday dinner and the place filled up quick by 8 so make reservations or come early. Bacon wrapped scallops, okay. Caprese salad, balsamic was nice and sweet but mozzarella was kinda tough. Prime rib, was HUGE and DeLISH and all sorts of awesomely perfectly marbled with fat medium rare, nicely undercut by my choice of horseradish cream sauce and au jus ( you can order three kinds of sauces). Six mac'n'cheese is fragrant and cheesy and satisfyingly flavorful. I really wanted to make it to buttery pecan bread pudding but I could not finish the over 16 oz. Steak. Thank god they had a decent selection of Cabernet to help me wash all that fatty prime rib down. The red diamond cab starts off oaky but opens up very sweet almost like a syrrah and was a treat in-lieu of desert, long after I'd abandoned that huge steak. Minimal markup for their wines so drink up!

My family came for Christmas Eve dinner as we have in the past. Unfortunately we were disappointed and won't return. We were seated in high tables right next to the bar so my kids and i were repeatedly bumped by those drinking at the bar and it was hard to hear over their shouting. My husband's food was cold and the twice baked potatoes were hard as a rock. We unlocked the special on yelp and we're told it wasn't available on holidays butthat is not in the advertisingl. This was certainly not worth the $500 we spent. We will go somewhere else next Christmas Eve.

At the end of July, we decided to spend our 21 anniversary at Prime for dinner. When my husband made the reservation he told them we were coming for our anniversary. After we were seated, on the most uncomfortable seats on the planet, we became aware of the loud voices coming from the curtained room next to us. A local businessman was having a financial seminar in the next room. We asked to be moved. But since the restaurant is small the voices from the seminar could still be heard. Well a romantic dinner isn't a requirement for am anniversary. Is it? I ordered prime rib. An end cut hopefully, I love the extra seasonings. What I ended up with was a regular piece of prime rib that had been grilled. I was sorely disappointed with my dinner, my chair and no one even said happy anniversary. The twice baked potato was excellent and the waitress was helpful and polite. But the price was to high for a very mediocre evening.

Atmosphere- vintage and unique Service- excellent, never ran out of water or coffee, plates were taken after they were empty. Food- delicious (must try their bacon scallop, risotto shrimp, and prime rib) Price- $25 for a four course meal for checking in on yelp Entertainment- average but was a surprise because we weren't expecting it If we are in the area, we would make it a priority to dine here again! Keep in mind their menu did change a little from their website, depending on what you order from their best of prime menu the cost varies from $35-$65 (surf and turf). All in all, it was a great deal and the food was amazing!

This place was a pleasant surprise. Good combo of old school and new. Food great, service terrific. Wife had the petit prime rib, asparagus, & steak fries, all great. I the chili rellano & stuffed mushrooms. The rellano was sublime, stuffed with prime rib & topped with yummy cheese. The mushrooms weren't quite as successful. The stuffing didn't taste much like crab, and there were too many of them. But these are subjective choices. Overall I was glad I made the visit. Nice, relaxing atmosphere. Ventura dressy, which means tuxes to shorts. Enjoy!

My husband and I came here for our wedding anniversary based on the good reviews and we were far from disappointed. It was, by far, the best meal we have ever eaten out! Our waiter (Bill) was very attentive, knowledgable and friendly. We both had the Prime deal, which was $10 off with a Yelp check in. I had the tuna tartare, Caesar salad, top sirloin with shrimp and a twice baked potato. The tuna tartare tasted fresh and a bit spicy, the Caesar, a classic, was delish and the perfect portion size, the top sirloin was cooked perfectly medium as I ordered and the twice baked potato was cheesy and creamy with the perfect amount of garlic. My husband had the spinach and mushroom wontons, wedge salad, 16 oz. prime rib and the 6 cheese mac and cheese. He said the wontons had a hint of heat and were pleasantly cheesy and crisp, the wedge salad was fresh and the bacon was the right amount of crispy, the prime rib had mushrooms and grilled onions and they were cooked without being mushy and the prime rib was also cooked to medium perfectly and finally the 6 cheese mac and cheese was in his words "cheesy goodness with a hint of awesome" lol. I tried a bite and have to say it was the fanciest mac and cheese I've ever tried. We will definitely be recommending this place to all of our family and friends!

We've eaten at Prime a number of times and have always enjoyed the food and felt it was a decent value. Our problem comes in with the worn-out cheap seating and the annoying music. We were six for a Christmas dinner. We were seated at a booth at the window near the front door. Upon sitting on the end of the seat to slide around the table it sunk like a teeter toter. It was obviously broken. The seat was so dilapidated that it felt like sitting on the floor. The table came up to our chests. We requested a move and were sat at a table with six chairs - perfect. However, after sitting for a short time it became apparent you could feel the frame of the chair through the seat. After dinner a lady in our party who is of short stature suddenly stood up with a bad cramp in her hamstring. The frame of the chair had cut off her circulation. The music has always been a problem. The acoustics don't allow for conversation while the singer performs too loudly. I enjoy music but this is too much. On our last visit the speaker screeched feedback at least six times. If the owners do read this I would recommend they look into some acoustic improvements. Drapes around the room (back room) and/or ceiling would make a huge difference.

The Best of Prime is such a great deal. It's normally $35 for a four course meal but if you check in with your yelp app you can get it for $25. The restaurant is fairly small and very popular so I would suggest making a dinner reservation. For my first course, I had the tuna tartare and the pairing with the thai chili sauce was perfect. For my second course, I had the caprese salad which was so fresh! For my third course, I chose the rib eye steak and it was juicy, flavorful and cooked to a nice medium just like I asked. For you fourth course (comes as side), I chose the garlic mashed potatoes and they were buttery and full of garlic flavor. So good! With the romantic ambiance and great food, Prime is a great date spot!

Took my wife there for the first time on her birthday. We really enjoyed the atmosphere sitting in the booth on the bar side. Seemed to be a local kind of place with people stopping by after work for happy hour. We enjoyed some wine and decided to have the 4 course meal from a coupon we received. The young man waiting on us was very patient and attentive but not overbearing. For the 1st course she had the bacon wrapped scallops which were killer. I had the garlic shrimp which was only 3 small shrimps. 2nd course we both had Cesar salad which was good. For the 3rd course I had an excellent twice baked potato and the wife had asparagus. Now for the main course. My wife wanted blackened salmon. After checking with the kitchen the waiter said they could provide it and I ordered the Prime Rib medium rare. This is where we became somewhat disappointed in that the salmon was not blackened like you would expect, and my prime rib was tough and medium. We are not the types to send things back and just took it in stride. The salmon tasted excellent with a fruit salsa type sauce, but as mentioned, was not blackened. I chalked up my prime rib issue as being we were early birds, and I received the end cut. Now where the experience lost it's shine was when we received the bill. The wine we ordered was on special, and reduced $12.00. Once we received the bill, we were going to be charged the full price. While reviewing the bill, and discussing the issue, the waiter approached and told us the manager noticed we were discussing the bill, and realized they had overcharged us for the wine and provided us an updated tab. That kind of killed the evening for us after over looking the previous mentioned dinner. All in all, we enjoyed the evening there and likely will return just for the happy hour and some appetizers. We may consider another try at dinner, but for a $110.00 night, I had higher expectations.

Yelped for a good place to eat dinner and stumbled upon Prime, nice surprise. They had some live music which was really nice because you had that ambience and it wasn't so loud that you couldn't have a conversation. We both got the four course special which was $35/person, but because we checked in on yelp it was discounted to $25. First Course: bacon wrapped figs & bacon wrapped scallops, both delicious. Second Course: Wedge Salad- hubby liked his wedge; Spring Mix Salad - dressing & caramelized pears were way too sweet for my liking, but loved the apple slices and walnuts Third Course: NY steak special, smokey mac and cheese and grilled asparagus. The steaks were tender and the mac and cheese is AMAZING, get it! Fourth Course: brownies w/vanilla ice cream for dessert, can't really go wrong! Service was great too, his name was Ross & he was very attentive even thought it was busy. Overall we had a wonderful experience & will definitely be back when we are in the area.

Fabulous/delicious food. Our favorite place to go out to dinner in Ventura. Jan (the owner) really knows how to pair wines with your meal. We often purchase a bottle to take home with us. We always make reservations but it is not always necessary.

I had high hopes for this place. Based on the advertising, I expected dimly lit red leather booths with Tony Bennett playing in the background. I was a little underwhelmed. The décor was not bad, however the pop music playing in the background did not set the mood. My prime rib was a little over cooked and was almost entirely made up of fat. The wedge salad lacked enough blue cheese crumbles. Service was good. I probably would not return.

My fiancé and I stopped in to check out happy hour last night and had a wonderful meal. He had the house salad and the prime rib sandwich with a side of veggies. I had a wedge salad with the tuna tar tar. I can honestly say that my wedge was the BEST I have ever had. (It seems like a wedge salad would be about the same in any restaurant, right? Wrong.) If you like blue cheese as much as I do this is a "must try." You will not be disappointed. When the tuna arrived I knew I was in heaven: wasabi cream and red chili drizzle. I love heat and this dish brought it... We both loved Prime: dark, romantic, beautiful granite bar with black leather bar stools, live music. The food, ambiance, and service at were all 5 stars. Highly recommend.

Best steak house in Ventura. Casual enough for the whole family, classy enough to impress. There service is top notch and the atmosphere is great.

Mixed feelings... We enjoyed Prime's dark, intimate environment, the live music played at a volume perfect for dinner & conversation, and a good bottle of Santa Barbara pinot noir ($45). What we didn't enjoy were our meals. The New Zealand lamb chops ($45) and prime rib ($25) were pretty much discarded without comment by us. I'm sorry to put it this way, but the other courses were just not very good either. I'd like to return for Happy Hour some evening. The bar area looked like a great place to have drinks & appetizers and enjoy the atmosphere, but It's unlikely that I'll make dinner reservations again.

The prime rib sandwich is as good as it gets! And you don't have to have fries with that. You can have asparagus !!!! Oh my what a great happy hour we had! The service is stellar and the tables are lovely. (Personally, I would get the bar chairs re-done...they sag.) Yes, I will go again

My wife and I have a new favorite! We went to Prime for my birthday. Reservations are generally required as it is not a large restaurant, but we were able to sneak in by being there right when they opened. The ambiance is romantic and refined but not snooty. A Yelp check in will get you special offers and for us it was a discount on the Best of Prime 4 course menu which we both had. The menu and value is amazing. We had a bottle of the Rombauer Zinfandel with our meal which paired well with all the food and got better as the meal went on. For our first course we had the prime rib chile relleno and the risotto ball. The chile was delightfully spicy and the risotto ball was subtle and delicious. My wife had the wedge salad and I had the caesar for our second course. We were both impressed with the homemade quality of the salad dressings. We both had prime rib as our main course. I felt my prime rib was cooked beyond my request, but the flavor was excellent. The restaurant was packed and our server didn't make it back to check if we were satisfied with our meat, and I didn't feel like making a big deal about it but next time I will ask for rare. The sides were amazing, the twice baked potato and mac and cheese are something to write home about. For desert I had the rockslide brownie and my wife had the bread pudding. Both were good but not as good as the meal had been to that point. Overall - the meal was excellent and I enjoyed my birthday dinner. I would venture to say our meal was even better than what we had at Maestros in T.O. for my wifes birthday a week or so before our visit and the meal was only about half the price. We will be back for New Years Eve and are really looking forward to it.

Another great meal at Prime! This time I had the ribeye. Cooked to perfection. The salad was not quite what I'm used to, I expected lettuce but apparently there is no lettuce on a caprese. Just tomato, basil, cheese and pesto. I didn't think I would like it but was pleasantly supprised.

Went for a seven o'clock dinner last night. First off they did not have my reservation and tried to convince me that it was in another book they kept in the back and that seating was not a problem. After a half hour wait, sitting next to the bar in a line of chairs pushed up against the wall, we got a table - a table at the bar, one of those high bar tables. When I told the Hostess that we didn't want to eat at the bar she tried to convince us the the table we had was one of the "most coveted" and that we were luck (BS). Then our waiter came - guess who - The Bar Tender would was so busy he could in no way of taken proper care of us. We walked out never trying the food which, by the way, looked pretty good. We won't be back. Good luck Prime.

This place was amazing!!!! Great, prompt service. The food cannot be beat! I had the mussels (delectable!), spring salad (yummy), prime rib (changes your life!), and the creamed spinach(melt in your mouth). This is THE place to go for prime rib! Our server, Ryan, was AMAZING and very helpful! Our whole family loved it!

Amazing! I have tried nearly everything here, and it is all delicious. The 4 course meal is a great deal with good portions. Attentive waiter who made effort to please us. Bacon wrapped scallops, baseball steak (they took the cheese sauce off of the steak... So disappointing! That cheese sauce is what kept me coming back), and the pretzel bread they give you after you order, are my favorite dishes. Top 3 restaurants in Ventura. Perfect for date night or to take visiting family members to show them one of the finer things in Ventura.

We went to prime for Valentine's day special meal. Disappointing things were I made a reservation 5 weeks in advance and I still got a terrible table. It was a bar table rather than an actual lower table that faced the entire room so I had to watch everybody eat and they had to watch us do the same. Rather uncomfortable for a romantic evening. Also, I'm unsure if a complementary dessert and wine came with the meal, but I do recall hearing other tables being offered those items and being told they were complimentary. We never received a complimentary glass of champagne and we had to pay extra for our dessert. My husband had a steak and I had the lobster tail for my main entree which we paid extra for. Both were good and we ended up having a decent evening even though my husband was in a lot of discomfort from the really bad chair and my legs were suffering because the chair was way too high for sitting for a full dinner. Overall the food was decent but the evening was very expensive. Not sure if it was worth the very extravagant amount we ended up spending there that night. Would be willing to give the restaurant one more shot at best.

This place is absolutely awful, by far the worst in Ventura to eat. Went for dinner and waited over 30 min to get a seat. Our server was terrible and didn't check on us until after we had finished our meal. The steak was dry and over cooked, I have had better at Sizzler. Don't even get me started on the price, It's definitely not worth it. I can cook a better steak at my home and not deal with the stuck up service that this place has to offer. I would not recommend Prime to anyone, unless you enjoy getting ill after eating dinner.

Service was amazing. So amazing I wasn't sure if they were for real or if they were trying to hurry us off. Haha. These servers have it down to a science and they were tipped well for it. Keep it up! Although I'm from the 805, I like to hate on the 805. I have to admit that the food was delicious and more than I would have ever expected. My only complaint and the reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because the mushrooms were under cooked. I let the server know and she was more than happy to take them back but it was enough for me to just be able to voice my opinion so I told her it was ok. (When I warmed my food up the next day, the mushrooms were perfect). So I say all this to say, the 805 has come a long way and this place is worth checking out. I'm not sure how long they'll stay in business with these amazing prices so you might want to check it before 1, they go out of business or 2, the prices sky rocket. Did I happen to mention the portion sizes are pretty sizable. For the area, you won't be disappointed.

Wow! Amazing food in Ventura! Group of 14 including kids- service was awesome and attentive, all meals were amazing. Not one person in our party had one complaint. Smokey Mac and cheese was to die for, amazing blue cheese dressing, chicken florentine got rave reviews, salmon was excellent, all steaks were excellently prepared, garlic mashed potatoes are crazy good... From the bread on the table, to drinks, to multiple courses... Could not have had a better meal! We will all be back! No other place in all of Ventura is better...

If you appreciate high quality steak, then this is your spot. The Happy Hour is a good way to sample the quality of their offering's. The staff is so cheerful and warm it is the icing on the cake! The Bar has a great Wine List and super friendly staff, very very nice!

Prime Steakhouse is an excellent restaurant in Ventura (I'm looking forward to trying the Agoura location soon). The staff is super well trained and managed. All staff members, from the hostess, to the waiter, and all the support staff, we friendly, helpful, and contributed to a great evening. The menu is very well conceived, and the Best Of Prime 4 course menu is an excellent value with terrific choices in each of the categories, appetizer, salad, entree, and side. The price is great at $35 or $45, depending on the entree. A Yelp check-in gets $10 per meal (one check-in is valid for four people at the table). You can't beat the price for a very decent, tasty meal. Two of started with bacon wrapped scallops and chili rellano appetizers. The scallops were well prepared and delicious. The rellano was large, delicious, and spicy. Almost entree size. We both had wedge salads, which were very large, with a lot of bacon and other toppings. The dressing was zesty, and perhaps the salad was a bit overdressed, but I love wedge salads, so I can't complain. For entrees, it was filet mignon and prime rib. Both were very good, not at the level of an elite steakhouse like Maestro's, but certainly well priced. They have live entertainment. The duo played music at a comfortable volume and contributed to the great atmosphere. Overall, a wonderful evening in a friendly, comfortable restaurant with very good, well priced food. A very strong four stars.

Business trip brought me to the area. Yelpers are right on. Got the $25 four course meal with yelp discount. I was alone so I sat at the bar to have my meal. Bartender (forgot his name but he went to UC Santa Cruz) was very attentive and went over the menu in detail and gave his recommendations. Pretty awesome meal for $25. Had the prime rib medium rare and came out at the right temperature, prior to ordering I asked to make sure they still had this temp cut as it was late (9pm) and he checked and confirmed. It was a little salty on the outside as I suspect they rubbed additional salt prior to serving, I was willing to forgive this error as it was simple to flake off the excess salt and went on to enjoy my meal. Hostess was very nice and made sure I was being taken care off and we chatted for a few as I had not been to Ventura before. We come back next time around, just hope they can keep this deal at $35, and keep up the $10 yelper discount. But even without the discount I would come back with no hesitation. Prime! You have a fan from Northern Cal!

Oh my goodness!! I love this place!! They have a 4 course meal for only $35 per person ($25 if you have a coupon!) The prime rib is so tender and juicy and they have 3 different sauces to choose from. Their spring green salad with poached pears, green apple, candied walnuts Gorgonzola, and red onion (I opt for no onion) with a sweet yet tangy honey balsamic dressing is TO DIE FOR!! The SIX cheese Mac n cheese is phenomenal. It also includes an appetizer as well, we love the bacon wrapped dates and the stuffed mushrooms!! To finish off, you HAVE to order their bread pudding! It has a pecan bourbon sauce that is just the superb finish to the entirely delectable meal.

2 words - Happy Hour! I'm digging the tapas. I like trying a variety of food, and the tapas thing is good for that. Let me break it down: - Bacon Covered Dates (I believe it is soaked in some crack like substance and further enhanced by a maply, sugary elixir, stuffed with cheese). Out of this world - Prime rib tacos - Mac and cheese - chili rellenos - shrimp wontons All divine creations and went real well with a glass (or 2) of Opolo. Oh and did I mentioned, they have a jazz band that plays in the evenings? The only thing that would make it better is if this place was closer to home.

Had reservations for two on a Saturday night at 6 PM. When we arrived, they didn't seem very busy except for a rather loud group in the bar. We were seated at the last booth in the bar before the bathrooms and next to the loud group. Gee - thanks. About half-way through dinner the loud group moved into the back room for a party, and I guess that explains why they seated people with reservations in the bar. It might have been nice to have been told that when we made the reservations for a quiet dinner. The menu seemed over complicated. If you are going to have a four course prix fixe menu, then don't tell me that certain choices are $4 more, $10 more, etc. The waiter couldn't even keep it all straight. The same goes for the wine menu - don't have an entire page of wine that is "on special" for discounted prices - that's just cheesy. We ordered ala carte. We both ordered filet mignon - I ordered it medium and although it was cooked OK (a bit over medium), it was dry and lacked flavor - it tasted like it had sat in a warmer for a while. Unlike the steak, the caprese salad I had was very, very good. I was a little worried about it having pesto instead of avocado - but that turned out to be brilliant. I had the garlic mashed potatoes, and they were OK - at least they helped to give the steak some flavor. My wife had the twice-baked potato. It seemed only luke warm - the flavor was OK, but it wasn't great. They were out of stock on the first wine I ordered, so I went for a Far Niente chard - that (of course) was excellent. Bottom line: pretty good for Ventura, but if you are expecting Mastro's, Ruth Chris or The Palm - forget it. You will get much better food quality at the others for only slightly more money. Oh Ventura - why can't you have a great steak restaurant??

I went to this restaurant with the family and it was ok. I enjoyed the food and the music. The only thing you have to keep in mind is that the restaurant is not family oriented. They only had 1 booster seat when I went there. They didn't even have, chocolate milk. Also the portions they serve are small compared to the usual steakhouse.

I ate here once for a special occasion and wasn't disappointed. The food was good and the service was, too. The inside is nice, and I think they have music on Tuesday nights. It's a very "date-ish" spot. There aren't any great views or anything like that, but there are usually coupons in your junk mail or on Groupon or Yelp. Just don't let your date see you use one! Luckily my wife is the one who suggested using one. Good food, nice place. Check it out.

4.5 Stars - My brother just graduated from UCSB last week and chose this Prime for his graduation dinner. Solid choice, Preston! Prime is quite unassuming... in the middle of a more industrial feeling street/ neighborhood, who would guess there is this classy little place? The restaurant is divided into two sections - upon entry, there are a few tables as well as a bar with a couple of TVs set to sports channels. Then, in a connected room there is another section with live music and more tables. We mostly opted for the$35 prix fixe which came with an appetizer, salad, and entree. The appetizers were somewhat small, but tasty (my favorite was the crab stuffed mushrooms!). The salads, though, were HUGE. I had the baby spinach, which was delicious. Some of us had the Wedge, which was also rather large. I devoured my salad... and barely had room left for the entree. I'm not a huge prime rib person, so I cannot say whether it was great or not, but OMG the stuffed salmon is AMAZING. It was not in the prix fixe menu, but it is one of the BEST salmon dishes I have ever had. And I have nothing but highest praise for the service. At times, it felt a bit slow, since we were all heading back to Orange County that night and did not want to leave. If I had time to leisurely enjoy a meal, it would have been a perfectly, not rushed dinner. But our waiter was seriously the most friendly guy ever. He was extremely patient with our large group of people and accommodating to our many requests. I also brought a cake for my dad's birthday and he did a wonderful job storing it, bringing it out, and even asking the live singer to sing happy birthday. Obviously, we did not order their dessert, but he did not give us any qualms about it and provided a truly excellent experience.

Prime is the real deal. The food is great, but I'll get back to that. The best thing is that everyone there is out to make your experience great. the four of us had a variety of meat meals, and everyone was happy with what they go. Only one of us went for the full four-part experience, and he loved the salmon tartar, and salad. The rest of us had a filet mignon, a ribeye and the lamb. All were done perfectly and were delicious. Even the pesto compound butter was great, particularly with the pretzel rolls.

OK so I have been going to prime in Ventura for about 5 years.......and since i am from NYC I am very critical about the establishments I frequent !!! the fact that I keep coming back to enjoy the food, staff & music means i am very satisfied with the way Jan runs her restaurant. Each and every time ...we are treated well, staff is very sweet courteous and knowledgeable about the food and drinks. Came here last month for a little 30th anniversary for my friends and they made it very special ....got a cake from the bread basket [ Camarillo] & they stored it the day before to surprize our friends and they came through .....stored it for us and served it professionally ...brought it out first and then sang and served it ....love Prime the closest thing to a NY experience in ventura I have found to this day.........from the wonderful appetizers, great salads with homemade blue cheese dressing to the tender & juicy steaks and fresh fish...not always found in a steakhouse ......PRIME comes through every time

Went to dinner the other night, not impressed! First of all the place is dark and grungy, I could barely see my plate. The manager I'm guessing was a older lady with a snooty attitude, who's alcoholic breath I could smell from across the table. First told us it would be 15 min for a table it turned out to be 35. She was running around and didn't know what was going on half the time. Each time I inquired about the table she would say with the rudest voice " one minute" then walk away. She ruined my business dinner with my colleagues. Had it not been for her we would of probably enjoyed ourselves more. I will not be going back to Prime, the foods not worth the price and I could definitely find better service elsewhere.

If you write a review that isn't perfectly friendly expect a message from the owner like I did- "I read your review on line and I wish you loved Prime more. Just wanted you to know that our goal at Restaurant week is to showcase what we do well. Our Best of Prime dinner runs $35-$45. We do run ads that offer $10 off. At Restaurant week it is only $20 and really a deal. More important is the comment you made about our music. Not sure what happened there, but we have three bands that play at Prime. They have all been here for a year or more. I value all of them like I would my employees or customers. They are like family to me. I would never not pay them or try to do anything dishonest. If anythingI give them extra. I am very very grateful for the hard work they do... I don't know if you would be willing to give Prime another chance and a new review? Let me know if there would be something I can do to make it better for you!! Thank you so much!! Jan Prime Steakhouse 805-320-8655"

I wanted to write a review as we almost didn't come here based on a few poor reviews of the service. Our server was Ryan and he was excellent. The atmosphere was nice but not stuffy. My husband's drink arrived promptly and our food came out quickly (but not rushed) and we really enjoyed our meal. I did ask for creamed spinach instead of asparagus and for some reason that didn't happen, but my meal was so rich it was probably for the best. The asparagus was really good I will add. We will be back!

We live in Ventura, eat out all the time, and we won't be back. Not because of the staff, or the food, but because of their bait and switch advertising practices. They advertise a four course meal for $25, and then list a number of options under each of the courses. Apparantly, when it comes to the entree, they feel it is acceptable to list items in the advertisement that are NOT $25. We thought there was an error by the server but he indicated that neither of the entrees selected were $25, and that the add said "sample menu, subject to change. We were not happy and he notifed the owner. She gave a long explantion about how their print ads have to be in 8 weeks in advance (not our issue) and that they used to serve a 5oz filet but people didn't like the presentation, and that only two people in 6 months had had an issue wtih this.I find it interesting that both the server and the owner had what seemed easy pat replies to our inquiry if only two people had this issue. When I showed her the coupon we brought in, which did not say "Sample Menu, subject to change" (which by the way would mean to me the menu items would differ, not the price!) she said, oh it is not on the COUPON portion, but the other part of the advertisement. WRONG. I jjust received this flyer in this weeks mail, and it was NOT on the advertisement. As a result they have lost our business. Edit: Just to be 100% fair in this, I did find on the flyer in super small script the "Sample Menu, subject to change" . One almost needs a magnifying glass to read this. Again though, if the "Menu" is subject to change, why did the price change for an item listed under the $25.00 advertised meal?

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Met a friend her after doing a gig in Ventura that ended at 9:30. They serve until 11:00. Appetizers were amazing, salads fresh and crisp, entree to die for. A little pricey but well worth it. Old school place.

OMG this was the best dinner I have ever had in a long time! They did not even know it was my 50th birthday! We got a fantastic meal!!! Bill our waiter was attentive and just fantastic!! Risotto, Rib Eye, Mac and cheese!!! All very good!

I went here for my birthday, and I was really excited because I've been wanting to try this place for some time. Our waiter was super nice, knowledgeable and very helpful. The menu was set up very well also. I loved the course menu, and it seemed to be a good price too. I didn't think the food was awesome, but it was definitely a treat. I will go back.

I just had my second Prime experience over the weekend. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit but the second left me a little disappointed. The food (Best of Prime) was terrific and truly a great value. Their CEO Martini was wonderful (very strong) and I would definitely order it again. The live entertainment was enjoyable. The only fault I have was I made a reservation and was shifted off to the corner with my fiancee to wait 30 minutes for a table. Adhering to reservation times is a big deal to me and when a restaurant fails me with a reservation I'm less likely to recommend them.

Went here for an anniversary. First off our server Bill was extremely nice, knowledgable, and helpful. We utilized the check in deal for the "Best of Prime". Started off with a couple of martinis(pear-tini and a belvedere with blue cheese olives) that hit the spot. Ordered the arrincini which was super flavorful for just a risotto ball but the sauce was outta hand and the bacon wrapped scallops were buttery with a perfect sear. The wedge salad with the homemade blue cheese and bacon was great and my wife's caesar was good as well but a little heavy on the anchovie in the dressing. We both ordered prime rib but they were nice enough to give us a sauce sampler so that we didn't have to stick to one sauce and could try what they had to offer. To be honest the quality of steak and cooking was good enough to have the steaks stand alone with just a little au jus. We did try all the sauces and the only one i was disappointed in was the brandy peppercorn sauce. The twice baked potato was excellent and rich enough to be a meal in itself but we split that. We also ordered the smokey mac n cheese which I don't think I would order again. Glad I tried it but way to rich with blue cheese (as you can see by this review I am a fan of their blue cheese) and I think smoked gouda which was just too much. I wish I had gotten a veggie to lighten it up a little. Extensive wine list and liquor selection as well with a very knowledgable staff to decide what you would like to try. Local pinot noir went great with the prime rib but next time I'll go with a cab. Excellent staff, quality ingredients, extensive selection and an absolute deal for the meal you get. Enjoyed a classier evening without the pretentiousness that some places have. We'll be back!

Prime's prime rib is just right: not too salty, not too fatty. Tender. The best. Ambiance is romantic and makes for a great date place. Location isn't the best, but still a safe part of town. Not too far from Casa de Soria. Service is exceptional.

Was enticed to cheek this out when they advertised a 4 course meal for $25 which was $10 off. First the good. Wait staff pleasant and efficient but never pushy. App and salad courses outstanding. Both of us ordered the Prime rib which was a large portion and perfectly cooked. Bad, place is very noisy especially when full though the quality live music offsets a bit. Our Prime rib was one of the toughest and Inedible pieces we have ever been served. My dining companion's side great but mine, the scalloped potatoes utterly tasteless. My iced tea had such an unpleasant aftertaste I had to have a cola instead. Unfortunately a real hot and cold experience. Probably worth another try.

Unfortunately, my dad has cancer so there are specific accommodations that we need when dining at restaurants ie away from the door, no where near children, no ice in water. We always explain this to managers in advance so that they are prepared to give the best service they can. After receiving news that we were unable to attend a Christmas eve party in Beverly Hills due to family and friends being sick, my father made reservations at this place. My father chose this place knowing based on previous experiences with service and food. I will agree with him, dining here myself. Knowing that it was Christmas eve, restaurants were going to be busy-this is why we made the reservation... My father made the reservation at 7 pm and whoever took his reservation asked for him to come in at 715 and said "that way we can have your table ready". So we arrived on time, the restaurant was filled up and the host-woman wanted to sit us near the door. He explained why he couldn't sit at the door, so the host said she needed to find another table. My dad went to sit in what seemed to be the cocktail area, but the host asked that he would get up because they needed to sit the table. There was no where to sit for him and she didn't even offer to look for him. So being in the business, I began to speak restaurant jargon and asked for the turn-around with the earliest table. She said 5-10 minutes. She then explained that she needed the table because she wanted to seat the Guest behind us at the bar. I understood, being a manager myself for several restaurants in San Francisco, and moved my father to an open seat at the bar while I stood waiting for the most available seat next to him. As we were waiting, the bartender asked for a drink order being a water with no ice for my father and a hotty toddy for myself. After 5 min the host returned explaining that where she wanted to seat us wouldn't be available, because the previous Guest now wanted to order dessert. My father then became upset telling her that she should comp us a meal. The host said that she would not. My father then asked for the manager and the host replied that she was the manager and said that she would not comp us a meal. She also said that it was Christmas eve, they were busy and that she would not do this...then walked away. Do what??? WOW! never in my 10 years of running an operation have I ever experienced this nor said this to a Guest-especially a regular. Now where I become frustrated. It is the holiday-BARTENDERS should know there holiday cocktails!!!! After waiting 10 minutes for my hotty toddy and watching the "bartender" make other bar guest drinks another employee ask what I ordered. I told him that the bartender already took my order. Then this employee not sure if he was a server/bartender maybe a manager said that he didn't know what was in a hotty toddy. I told him it was the most simple ingredients: hot tea/water, whiskey/bourbon of choice and splash of lemon juice/honey. He told my they didn't have hot water. At this point steam came out of my ears, turned to my father and said "I can't do this anymore" Our alternative was Alohas, and I was impressed. They took us immediately-service and food was impeccable, accommodated my father's needs-away from door/no ice in water and was able to make me a hotty toddy without questions asked. I will NEVER return to this establishment after the way this manager treated my father. Remember your regulars when your bottom line is hurting in the slower months!!! This review is more directed towards the woman host/manager. As overwhelmed as you are never tell your Guest what you told my father then walk away.

For starters I had Avocado roll w cheese & homemade Thai sweet chili sauce. Really rich in taste while it has its rustic crunch on the outside to balance out the palate. Amazing! Must try! Followed by Black Mussels. The mussels are really fresh but the gravy is a tad bit too sweet for my liking. For mains I had the signature Ribeye. 16 oz, perfect size. Cooked to perfection. Fats render on the side and in the middle of the meat. Makes every mouth feels like heaven!!!!

If you're near Ventura, quit looking at Yelp and go try this restaurant now! We went with friends while visiting the area and can't wait to get back here again. You'd never know what a gem this place is from the outside - very unassuming. Inside is simple, elegant, and comfortable. For the caliber of meal you're about to enjoy, this place could be pretentious. But instead, the staff was friendly and always attentive, without being intrusive. Ryan was a fantastic waiter! We all ordered the "Best of Prime", which is a 4 course meal with lots of selections to choose from. We each started with an individual appetizer (especially loved the Arancini and the Bacon Wrapped Dates). Multiple salad options followed. I had the baseball cut top sirloin, as did 3 others in our dinner party. It was tender, juicy, lean but flavorful. And cooked precisely to our requests. Each of the side dishes we chose were also noteworthy. This particular evening there was a keyboard and vocal duo providing live entertainment (soft hits from the 70s and 80s genre) which added a nice ambiance to our evening. I also noted that Prime seems to attract everything from young professionals to upper class retirees. Guess a terrific steak is something we all can appreciate. You won't leave broke, you won't leave hungry, but you will leave with a smile on your face and with good memories of an excellent dining experience. I will return to Prime Steakhouse when in the area again!

This was my second time at Prime, both times on vacation in Ventura. The Best of Prime deal is a real steal, when you get a full 4 course meal for $39 (or $29 if you check in on yelp). This is the run down on the meal; Bread: delicious, they serve it with an herb butter that really hits the spot First course: the crab stuffed mushrooms were meh, the crab was tasty but the mushrooms had a very overpowering flavor. Id recommend the chili relleno, so amazing and flavorful Salad: the caprese was good, with delicious buffalo mozzarella and a pesto and balsamic glaze. The tomato however, was not ripe enough, and didn't have much flavor. The Caesar salad is a hit though, your pretty standard Caesar with just the right amount of dressing. Main course: the filet was buttery and delicious (although $10 more), and the prime rib was also hearty and served with salty au jus Sides: smokey Mac and cheese and garlic mashed potatoes so goooood Overall, not the best food I've ever had, but a pretty solid, and affordable nice dinner

What was I thinking? 3 stars? This place is 5 stars all the way!!! I'm actually embarrassed that I only gave them 3 stars before. I love the happy hour. I've had every item and I especially love the relleno, prime rib tacos, nachos, the wedge. I especially love their Sauvignon blanc on happy hour. I'm also embarrassed to say that I've never had a prime rib here. I need to change that! Oh and all the staff is amazing! Especially Matt and Kristina!

I loved the food! Tuna tartare, mussels and caprese salad were fresh, tasty, and well executed! The steaks were delicious but I didn't like either the peppercorn sauce or the mushroom on top, they didn't really go well together. But overall so so good- I would come back every time!

We went to Prime steakhouse for my birthday with really good friends and we had a fantastic meal. Our friends had the Chilean sea bass and salmon and we had the prime rib and salmon and everything was excellent. The appetizers were delicious. We always get the tuna tartare and chile relleno and they did not disappoint. They even brought me a birthday cheesecake. Our service was excellent and we love the ambience. Great place for romantic dinner or with friends.

I don't normally leave reviews especially negative ones however I felt compelled. First let me start with the food was delicious! The problem was with service and management. I took my wife for Mother's Day 2015 and made a reservation weeks ahead of time. We arrived early for our reservation as we figured it would be busy. We were told that we would have to wait for a table to become available and we were told we could sit at the bar. We did and ordered a drink. The drink was made quite well. After waiting almost 45 minutes without any communication I asked the person running the front of house when we would be seated and she said shortly that we would get the next table that freed up. We were finally seated almost an hour after our reservation. We were quite disappointed when we about to order because we were informed that they were out of prime rib. This was the main reason I brought my wife to this restaurant as it was one of the featured Entrees and it's her favorite dish. The waiter was cordial and attentive at first but it took a long time for him to come back to take our order and after our food was delivered it was about 25 minutes before he checked on us again. Again, our food was prepared well. Lastly, I called 2 days after Mother's Day to speak to the manager about our disappointing evening. She stated that she was busy but she would call me back. That was in May and I have still yet to hear from her. I get that this was a busy day and things can happen. However for our first experience at this restaurant we have no desire to go back.

Try not to come in here stoned unless you want to gain another addiction. Ambience is key. Lime. Pie. If I found out I just ate human meat I wouldn't care. Buzz is good. Lyft is here. Where next?

Love this place. Last saturday I visited with my BF and his mom, we all have a great time! Each of us did the 4 course meal and everything was absolutely delicious! I had the Chile Relleno, the Baby Greens, 16 oz Prime Rib Eye steak, medium (got it on point) with scalloped potatoes. Meal was excellent. I had two of their Margaritas, they were OK, but I had a sip of a martini and it was good. Service, ambiance, all were excellent, what a treat! Plus they had a fabulous woman signing motown and classics, score! Really romantic, a must try in Ventura

The vibe here is cool. There are TV's in the restroom and a guy singing "Sitting in the Park" in the dining room. What's not to like? You can even check in on yelp and get your four course meal for only $29...leaving you with enough spare cash to show off with a bottle of wine. Playing the devil's advocate... Can you get more, possibly better tasting food at Black Angus for less, yes, but this is a better place for a date. The food wont blow her socks off but you'll get bonus points for classiness. Getting down to details... I started with the Prime House Salad, it was standard. My wife had the Caesar but the dressing was too fishy for our liking. For appetizers we had the tuna tartare and the bacon wrapped scallops. The tuna tartare came with chips, which to me is like taking your cousin to prom. I mean there's nothing wrong with hanging out with your cousin but can I get a damn crostini around here?!? As for the scallops, I'm usually easy to please but these were just too sweet. The main dishes were solid though. My wife had the salmon and Brussels sprout and I had the steak and baked potato. Unfortunately, my steak was medium well instead of medium rare like I ordered but it was still tasty. I would've sent it back but I was with a large party and didn't want to be the last one eating. Try it or Diet Final Word I will definitely try it again. The overall experience was positive and I'll have to give the food another try. Good date spot plus any place with TV's above the urinal deserves your support. Try it.

Old-school steak house and restaurant in a location that makes no sense, but worth seeking out. They must have a nice happy hour because the bar area was crowded and loud; the dining room was a bit quieter with comfortable chairs and nice linens. The prix fixe menus are a really good deal, but lots & lots of food. The tuna tartare was delicious and the crab-stuffed mushrooms were tasty too. The wedge salad lettuce was on its last legs and the dressing was just so-so, but the mixed baby greens with beets was really good. The real stars are the meat entrees: the prime rib was cooked to perfection and delicious as were the lamb chops. The scallop potatoes and garlic mashed were just fine too. We overdid it on the wine (they have a nice list and by-the-glass pours are generous) so we ended up spending a bit more, but if you pace yourself you will be very happy with your check and if you're not one of those huge eaters you'll have another couple of meals to take home. Service is friendly and attentive and they are very flexible when it comes to orders. Christina (the manager) was outstanding. Oh, and the breads are really good too. They also apparently have live music on the weekends. If you're in the Ventura area check this place out!

Excellent service, excellent food. I would suggest one thing, though. The commercial music station playing was a bit loud and you should look into a music service that is all music. We will return!

Stepped in for a date night dinner. Never ate here before. Bill our waiter was awesome and gave us all the right recommendations for dinner. Bone in Ribeye was very good. Will return again for sure.

I took my wife here for Valentines Day and we were most impressed. I found this restaurant thru other yelpers and the reviews swayed my decision to go to a more well known restaurant with slightly lower reviews. This outside décor of the restaurant does not speak for what you find inside. The building looks a bit tired and there is no flare or big signs grabbing your attention to say "hey eat here, this place is amazing". One would easily drive past and not know the secrets that lie behind those wooden doors. When we first walked into the restaurant we were greeted by a friendly young woman. I explained to her that we didn't have a reservation but we showed up early in hopes of grabbing a table. I know this is a risky move to pull off on valentines day but a calm washed over me when the hostess found us a table in a "prime" location within the restaurant. The interior décor was simplistic but elegant and the lighting set the stage for an intimate dinner. We watched from our table as the restaurant quickly filled up within minutes. There were many servers who had specific jobs and cared to our every need, before we knew we had them. The staff worked together so well it looked as if the evening had been choreographed days before. When one server left the table another server would attentively watch to ensure we didn't have empty glasses, empty bread baskets or empty plates left to be collected. The menu that night was set at 60 dollars for a 4 course meal with options to add lobster for an additional price. For starters I had the crab stuffed mushrooms and my wife had the bacon wrapped scallops. The mushrooms had a nice smoky flavor and the crab was a perfect marriage for the mushrooms. The starter was very petite and I wish I could of had more than 3 small mushrooms on the plate. My wife's bacon wrapped scallops were cooked to perfection and were served over a tasty sauce. For the next course we had the Caesar salad and the mixed greens. The presentation of the mixed greens were well done but the Caesar salad was just some lettuce with dressing. Just after our second course the server brought us two glasses of Champagne and wished us a happy Valentines Day. Lastly, for the 3rd and 4th course, I had prime rib with creamed spinach while my wife had filet mignon and asparagus. This was slightly misleading because it turns out that our 4 course dinner for 60 dollars each turned into a 3 course meal with no dessert. The prime rib was delicious but was a little on the salty side. The cream spinach was very rich and had the right amount of crunch on top and balance of cream and spinach. My wife's fillet mignon was heavenly and seasoned absolutely perfect. It looks like my wife ordered all the right things. This restaurant is an excellent choice, but pretty pricey for special occasions. I would recommend going here and using the yelp coupon that gets you a 5 course meal for 29 dollars. I was teetering on 4 to 5 stars, but I have to go with 5 stars because of the service.

Ate here tonight with the fam off the happy hour. End of the day it cost $100 for four people, drinks included. We ordered the calamari, prime rib nachos, prime rib sandwich, salad, and tuna tartar. Calamari is just ok, the nachos are a half portion and hit the spot. Had 2.5 glasses of Pinot but the Pinot ran out and we were only charged for two glasses. Wait staff is very nice but busy. Restaurant should hire more to accommodate the happy hour. It's a small place so the bar area can fill-up quickly. Same concept as Fleming's for Happy Hour. Very interested in their four course meal deal and wine pairing Wednesday's. Probably one of the nicer steakhouses in the area. I'll be back!

So it's my birthday and I've been absolutely dying to check out this place I love steak huge steak connoisseur both myself and my dad and my husband I really looked forward to this night I want to make it clear that our service was exceptional our waiter who is a tall Caucasian man with a goatee I forgot his name I'm so sorry was a very pleasant server tonight and the food was absolutely to die for. But the reason I'm giving a three stars is because of your ghastly horrid hostess who is the cougar that dresses like she shops at forever 21 with the ridiculous snobby attitude, I would really love to hear back that you've dealt with this manner appropriately. My dad works all day I work all day we were sat directly where the sun hits our eyes and I immediately asked her if we could move to another place she picked up the phone proceeded to talk to a customer didn't take down their name or number for reservation didn't look at me in the eye and then responded with an attitude that was embarrassing for such a classy place she asked me what I would like to do with an annoyance in her tone and I said I would like to move booths she gave off the essence of it being an annoying request and proceeded not to care so I took our menus and move to a booth this was ridiculous and I felt very embarrassed for her and the staff but I do want to say that the food and the rest of the night was very nice, it is very dark in there I wasn't able to see where to cut my steak but again the food was great but please step up your game with that ridiculous hostess.

Food was amazing, just watch for the waiters with the trays swooping over your head! No had the filet mignon and it was perfect! The twice baked potato was amazing and for dessert I highly recommend the creme brûlée and if you want to catch a decent buzz, you only need one Mai tai!

Best deal in town: $35 four course menu, check-in on Yelp and make it $25! Besides the killer deal, there are a couple highlights that makes this restaurant one of my fave in Ventura: - Best wine selection in town: There are a couple wine establishments and wine tasting rooms around town, but this restaurant outshines the rest with an impressive wine list featuring wines from Napa and Central Coast. Here you'll find Caymus cabernets, SeaSmoke pinots, and Ken Brown pinots, among others. The restaurant owner does the wine selection herself, and changes their wine list frequently. Keep an eye out for daily wine specials, which is posted on the board and on the menu as well. - Four Course Menu: AWESOME DEAL! There are a couple options -- you choose a appetizer, salad, main entrée, and a side. Here's the breakdown: First Course - Appetizer: - My pick: Bacon wrapped scallops (for a little extra charge) are my favorite. Scallops are moist, and cooked just right. - Fried risotto balls and tuna tartar are also tasty as well Second Course - Salad: - My pick: Cobb salad. What can go wrong with bacon?? - Caprese is always a standard as well Third Course - Main Entrée: - My pick: Sea Bass, lightly panko encrusted and pan-seared. Being a picky fish eater, Prime has the best fish dish. The sea bass is very rich, silky, and most importantly, NOT dry! This is on their specials menu (also for an additional cost), so it depends on availability. - Prime rib, ribeye are also well made. I recommend sauce on the side, and seared for the ribeye. If you're looking for a good piece of steak, Prime would be my recommendation. Fourth Course/ Side Dish: - My pick: All of them! Depends what you are in the mood for. Twice baked potato is probably the house specialty. The 3 cheese mac is also another favorite. I'm not too much of a fan of their brussel sprouts; they're overcooked and too salty.

Ambiance- check! Friendly staff - check! Amazing food at reasonable prices - check! We were in town for a couples retreat and found Prime for our date night. We were so pleasantly surprised at the quality and amount of food we got on the prefix menu. $39 for 4 courses and it was expertly crafted so that the flavors are still dancing in our mouths! We're so glad we picked this place for our special night. Thanks Prime

Ryan (the younger one) is such a professional. He made a good night turn into a great night with his level of service. The food here is fantastic. I had the chile relleno, which is awesome because it's not deep fried and has a good amount of prime rib in it; a queen's cut of prime rib; creamed spinach; and the cheesecake. Plus, there is a great singer every Saturday night that makes for nice background music; she even sang Happy Birthday to my sister. Will definitely be back.

I'm pretty sure this has become our go-to place for birthday dinners. My bf spoiled me with a romantic dinner here on Monday night. I had the surf and turf - Ahhhh - maze- ing! My top sirloin was cooked to perfection and the lobster melted in my mouth. Oh em gee...the mac n cheese. I was so full I couldn't finish, I was sad to see half of it leave my table. I enjoyed my dinner with a glass of cab and to top off the night we were given a complimentary bread pudding dessert to share. Yum!

I'm pleased to see that there's so many positive reviews here for Prime; easily my wife's and my favorite restaurant in the Ventura area. The staff is friendly and courteous, and the high quality of the food preparation and presentation has always been consistent. You'll see a lot of people's favorites on the menu in these reviews... my personal happy hour favorites? The prime rib chili Relleno, and their baseball cut Caesar salad - A complete meal in itself. In my opinion, the 'Best of Prime' deal that they have is by far the best deal in town for a great four course dinner. It won't disappoint! Check your local mail, or just check into the prime yelp site for a great discount.

Lovely service, awesome music, and terrific food. I took my boyfriend here for a celebration dinner and it was a very lovely experience. Yes it's definitely pricier than what we typically eat but we all need to be treated like royalty every once in a while. I suggest doing the four course meal deal. The food is rich and delicious. We will definitely come back.

I tried to call the restaurant and they don't even answer the phone. They have an answering machine that says "we are no longer accepting reservations for New Year's eve. If you would like to make a reservation for another day please leave us a message and we will call you back." I would hope that a restaurant of this caliber would at least have enough people so they could answer the phone and you could talk to a live person. Going to an answering Machine begs the question do they even have enough people to provide good service? This was a pretty disappointing first impression.

Every time we have eaten here we have had a good experience. I can't say that about steakhouses that are much more expensive. We always do the best of Prime. We both get the bacon wrapped dates (which should be classified as a controlled substance) for appy's and the Caesar salad. I get the baseball cut sirloin and my wife gets the salmon. She gets garlic mashed and I get twice baked potatoes. We've had these 6 or 7 times and have always found them perfectly prepared. Service is always good, the waitstaff is attentive and friendly. They are open on Thanksgiving and Christmas. We tried Christmas this year. It was pretty crowded but quality was still good.

I really enjoyed this place. Make sure that you make reservations. Came here around 7 on a Saturday and it was busy. The downfall is where the sun hits, it was quite bright in several areas of the room. I would highly suggest they get thicker blinds! However, as for the service, I definitely cannot complain! The waiter was attentive, but not overbearing. As for the decor, I really did enjoy. I liked how they had a smaller room for more of a lounge feel with a live music. Granted this did make the place a bit louder than I would have preferred. This place is a bit smaller than I would like. As for the food, I loved! - I ended up getting the 3 course meal for $25 as we had a coupon, it is originally $35. And if you check in you can get it for $25 as well. And keep in mind the coupon at least is good for 4 people. It says 4 course, but it is more like, appetizer, salad choice, meat and then a side. I ended up getting the: FiRST: Tuna Tartare avocado, cucumber, red pepper with a spicy wasabi sauce in between homemade wontons: I loved this, it was just enough, one wonton but it had tons of tuna! SECOND: Caprese Salad fresh tomato, buffalo mozzarella in basil, pesto, and balsamic- I really enjoyed this, it was fresh and light, just the right portion amount. THIRD/"FOURTH": Our Specialty Prime Rib served with your choice of Blue cheese Marsala, Black Brandy Peppercorn, or Homemade cream Horseradish- I ended up getting this Medium rare with the Blue Cheese. I really enjoy this! The meat was tender, not dry and way more than I could eat. I had to take it home. As a side I got the brussel sprouts, with bacon and dates: The bacon was a little too burnt for my taste, but the mix of the dates and brussels were delish! The dates had a candied taste. I would definitely come back here again!

Great ambiance and food. Will definitely return again. My husband is still raving about it! The price is right for the quality and quantity of food. We shared the meal and it was just right!

Found this steakhouse through Yelp, great place, good service, garlic mashed potatoes and creamy spinach were off the hook. I had an aged steak don't remember the exact cut but it was great. Also, they have a gentleman playing live music. Who doesn't love some "SOUL"? especially on Valentine's Day!!!

Good was good, as was service. Steak was cooked to perfection and Creme Brûlée is amazing. Make sure you have time, because it takes awhile to get food.

It was a holiday and the service and the food was GREAT! The food was scrumptious filling and we had a doggie bag for the amount of food we got. They are open every day except Super Bowl Sunday. The apps were amazing we had the scallops and the mushrooms. My review does not do the food justice. GREAT JOB Prime. The name says its all there is nothing like it.

I wanted to give this place 4 stars but they did not acknowledge my request. Being it was our first time here and we were celebrating our anniversary they ignored me or maybe they do not do anything special. Anyway service was on point. Ryan was great! The food (stuffed mushrooms, bacon scallops, prime rib, baseball cut and lobster) was also on point. The Cadillac margaritas were strong and the best! They also had a live performer which I wish they sat us by her because it was our first time and anniversary. We will back and I recommend this place to all!

I love this joint. Frank playing in the background. Stiff drinks. Good looking staff. Best of all, thick , juicy steak. I had the baseball sirloin, it was delicious. My gal had the salmon. Went with some friends, they had the Prime rib. Great wine list. We had a really good time. The owner was very pleasant. This wasn't my first time there, but it gets better every time I visit.I'll definitely be back. I'll check out the Augora location and let you know.

Love this place! The Petite prime rib is perfectly cooked. Garlic mashed potatoes are to die for. Stick with the Prime Martini. Always recommend this restaurant and the location in Agoura.

What a wonderful experience! Everything was perfect. The service and food were wonderful. We travelled out here from the San Gabriel valley for a date night and will definitely be back. Make sure to try the 4 couse meal. From the tuna tartare to the sirloin to the prime rib, to the brownie for desert, every part of the meal was excellent. Hint- if you order two four course meals, choose different items to get a taste of everything.

First time here, decor and ambiance were great. Food was good, portions just right. I was with a large group 30+ and the entree came out just barely warm. 10oz filet mignon was cooked just right though. I plan on giving them another shot but with a smaller group.

We had an amazing thanksgivings dinner..lots of good food (we had 3 boxes leftovers in 2 people). We liked in particular the salmon and the top sirloin..everything great quality!

So disappointed. With all these great reviews I decided to take my wife here for our anniversary. We both ordered prime rib, hers was cold, mine was barely warm. Both prime ribs had excess fat, like 40%. If you're going to hang you're hat on prime rib and have it your name sake, you should know what you're doing. In the prime rib department, they do not. Oh, they brought my wife the wrong side too. I sucked it up and ate mine, my wife sent everything back and requested the filet mignon and the side she originally ordered. We ate 25 minutes apart. In all fairness, the service was great, the kitchen screwed up. Everything we ate with the exception of prime rib was really good. My neighbor has served a far superior Prime Rib.....for free. So in conclusion, order anything but the prime rib and you should be good. I would recommend they find someone that knows what a good cut of prime rib is and can serve it properly cooked at the right temperature. We won't be back.

Great location. I almost don't like taking about it because it's a Ventura secret. Owner has done a great job. 5 star dining. Yet semi casual. Great food great people.

My nephew was heading back to college so I thought I'd treat him to Prime. It was wonderful! Steaks = prime & perfect - expertly prepared (had the bone in NY, Ribeye & Prime Rib) Garlic mashed potatoes = I'm a garlic fan, and these were impressive. Six Chese Mac and Cheese = nephew gobbled the entire order. Baby Green Salad = perky, fresh and delicious. Service and Ambiance A+ Entertainment was terrific (Frank Sinatra-esque vocalist was wonderful!) Great wine list.

Excellent!! We had been to the location in Agoura before and it was our first time at their original location in Ventura and we loved it. I made a reservation for my Fiance's birthday through yelp. I requested for the nicest table available. When we arrived we were greeted by a friendly hostess who took us to a fantastic table right in front of the live music. Our server, Bill, was absolutely amazing... He gave wonderful recommendations and was so nice. We loved everything on our plates and my Fiance's filet was cooked to perfection. The bread pudding is also to die for which was brought to us with a candle and the server mentioned to the singer that it was my Fiance's birthday and he sang a special song - I didn't even have to ask! We really loved our experience, the service, and the food. We will definitely be back for dinner... It can be risky trying a new place for a special occasion and they were on point with every step, now we will be regulars! Thank you Prime for taking such great care of us and thank you to Bill for making our evening so special.

We were impressed! I think I had the best piece of salmon ever. Really delicious. My wife had the prime rib and that was also excellent. We would recommend checking this place out.

4 visits so far, and ALMOST every one has been great. Definitely recommend the "Best Of Prime" 4-course dinner, and of course the prime rib (reference the name). "Pasta With Frank" on Tuesdays is pretty good too, but "Frank" is probably a little better than the pasta served in his presence. Service is ALMOST always very good. If you are a Ventura local and can catch the coupon in the mail it will save you $10 per dinner. I highly recommend this fine dining establishment...even though we went there for my wife's birthday recently, party of 16 people, and the server was TERRIBLE.

This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Ventura County! The fixed menu is awesome for the price! My favorites are the tuna tar tar, the stuffed salmon or the prime rib, and the twice baked potato or the mac and cheese! Awesome awesome place.... They participate in restaurant week too so you get the same menu for half off! My family always comes here for special occasions.

I didn't really feel the need to write this review until this morning having gone to a "real" and "classy" steakhouse last night. Anyways, all I can say is watch out for this place. The food is good, but they totally "nickel and dime" you on the prices. If you want a "special" appetizer it's extra, if you want a "special" steak it's extra (this is all off the advertised $39 special they offer) so if you go with the other stuff, you are paying way more - however, that isn't as bad as the following: We went on the Saturday night before mothers day, and my wife brought in cupcakes because that is what her mother likes. Can you believe they charged us a $15 cake cutting fee!!! All they did was bring us some plates. The nerve, right? Anyways, I would never go back here due to all the extra hidden charges. If you want a great steak dinner, there are plenty of better places in the Ventura County Area. Skip this place. (gave it 2 stars because the food was good, not great, but good) Good luck with your Agoura location- it's been a nightmare area since Hamburger Hamlet left, and if they do this to the Agoura community they won't last at all.

Went for a birthday party and I didn't check in so I feel compelled to give an awesome review. I think the four course meal was totally worth it (especially if u get the discount) and everything was good. My boyfriend got the filet and it was great as well as my fish. But we really loved the twice baked potato and the mushroom stuffed appetizer. Great live singer, good atmosphere-- I don't live in Ventura but really liked this spot. Thanks again Prime for the great time! They even accommodated out vegetarian friend :)

Wow, what a great place! We went there for our very special anniversary dinner, and were fed and treated like royalty. Christina was our server, and took amazing care of us - what a sweetie, and so on-the-spot with every little thing. Food was delicious; prime rib cooked to perfection, baby-greens salad fresh and crisp with wonderful dressing, potatoes to die for. And their Ace of Spades specialty coctail is one of the best I've had - ever, and I know my cocktails. All in all, we enjoyed every minute in this beautiful, relaxing and high-class restaurant, and can't wait to visit again soon! Bon appetit! :D

I will start out with the only thing that bothered me at dinner... the customers! This is a high end restaurant. Seriously its super nice and on a Saturday night, if you are not intelligent enough to make a reservation for you and your five friends don't be a jerk, don't pace through the restaurant for an hour, getting mad because people got in before you, go somewhere else! They made reservations! I made reservations! Plus you are wearing sweats and tennis shoes... you are lucky the wait staff and hostess were so accommodating to you. I would have thrown you out. Our poor waiter was trying so hard to take care of us while you sat in the booth behind us being jerks. I would use more colorful language to describe you but I don't want to stoop to your level. But I digress, I want to talk about my meal. I took my mom here while we were visiting Ventura and found that Brooks which i had preciously been to, had closed. The reviews were good, the pictures and website are nice and I knew it would be a great place to try. I was willing to shell out money for a good meal and I was not disappointed. We each chose a best of from the menu only because of had everything so $35 each. I had the tuna tar tar and man it was good. The wasabi sauce was so tasty, just right to go with the fish, not overpowering or anything. My mom had the shrimp scampi and loved it. Next we had the blue cheese wedge, and we are both big fans of blue cheese. It did not disappoint either. I think they may use Maytag and I prefer Pt Reyes Blue but it was good, just the right amount of horseradish, yummy bacon bits, good fresh lettuce. But that wasn't all. I had the Prime Rib and my mom had the Baseball cut sirloin. Both great, the sirloin was a little rarer than my mom wanted, but I think she meant to order medium instead of medium rare. I loved my prime rib, I got all three sauces and they were all good. I had asparagus my mom had the twice baked potato and we shared. I wish she had ordered the mashed potatoes but it was still good. I would have had wine, but decided to just have ice tea because I wanted to get up early and wine tends to make me sleepy, but they had a great selection. Since I have had a good sampling this time I am willing to venture out of the best of and into the great variety of steaks. As I am writing, I am thinking about visiting again, it was that good. I highly recommend Prime!

My wife and I had the pleasure of celebrating our 16th anniversary @ Prime (1st time) and we were not disappointed. The dates w/cheese & wrapped w/bacon was out of this world! Stuffed mushrooms w/blue crab & a spicy sauce delicious! wedge & baby green salads, scrumptious! Prime Rib & Rib Eye steaks, mouth watering tender w/asparagus & smoked six cheese mac & cheese. Ambiance was very nice and our waiter Ross was very informative w/the menu and made great suggestions. For you sport fanatics a few flat screen tv's w/the game on @ the bar.

We wanted to celebrate Our mothers 92nd birthday with an evening she would cherish She was always a big Sinatra fan,we decided we would surprise her. We had never been there before so we didn't Know what to expect. -she loved Sinatra and liked pasta so we Made a reservation. From the minute we walked in we were Impressed. We felt we were transformed to another place and time, a time where service was of the upmost importance- the martinis were pricy but Perfect , the service was excellent the -The pasta was delicious and the dessert was sinfully good- the Sinatra live music was magc. I have not seen my mother so happy in a long time- We definitely will return for many more special occasions- mom told us her experience at prime was "magic"."

The wine was excellent, the bread was good. The best of prime was a good deal but I "upgraded" to the filet. The tuna tartare was phenomenal. My wife loved the shrimp dish for her appetizer. Her salad was ok...it was the house one I think. I had the wedge salad which was good. My steak was really good and the scalloped potatoes were good. Service was good. Nice ambiance and we enjoyed the meal overall. Oh, also, we used a Yelp coupon and it was like "no problem"...no weirdness...saved 20 bucks! I will definitely go here again and have recommended to family and friends.

My wife & I just moved to Ventura a month ago & Have been on our foodie quest since day 1. We have been to quite a few Mexican restaurants (our fav) but wanted to try a fine dining steakhouse for my 29th (ok, 47th) birthday. Prime Steakhouse was rated #1 on Yelp & so far the reviewers on Yelp have not let us down. My birthday was on a Thursday night so when we arrived at 5:30 we were sat immediately. Atmosphere was casual elegance. A couple guys at the bar with baseball caps but the ambiance was pleasant. Our server Ryan was knowledgable, pleasant & attentive. The drinks were pricey but amazing (Mai tai for me, apple tini for my wife). Instead of ordering everything a la cart we ordered from a pre selected 4 course menu. (5 selections or so per course). My 1st course wa bacon wrapped scallops & my wife had a puffed pastry with spinach & mozzarella. Both were amazing. 2nd course I had baby green salad with pear, apple & candied walnuts and my wife had cap reuse salad. My dish was delicious & hers was AMAZING! It was the rock star of our meal!!! 3rd & 4th course arrived together. I had the prime rib with twice baked potato & my wife had filet mignon with Brussel sprouts. The meat was the reason we came & the reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5. Neither tasted like prime cut. Both were a bit chewy plus the seasoning was subtle at best. Twice baked potato was awesome though. Very good dinner except for the disappointment in our steaks.

I made reservations at Prime for my wife's birthday. It was our first time eating there. We arrived for an early evening dinner and were seated immediately and well tended to the entire time. Great martini and wine list- my wife chose a glass of their cheapest wine and was pleased. Atmosphere was elegant and the food was terrific. The jazz singer sang Happy Birthday to my wife as she was served bread pudding a'la mode with a candle on top! When the bill finally came, I was pleasantly surprised and felt compelled to tip over the usual 15%. There will definitely be return visits ti Prime:)
