For my 100th Review, a favorite: Calisco (the owner) has become a friend through our visits, and so we come here often and he generously pours us a few shots of tequila at the end of the night when he is feeling happy. I have always enjoyed my visits here. The food is good for Truckee. But the booze and the smiling enthusiasm of the owner and the diligence of the staff is why we keep coming back ;)

We were here on Saturday and sat at the bar. SO much fun! And, thanks to several people there we had the ceviche. Just wow. Chock full of shrimp and mild white fish. Doctored it up with their various salsas. We shared it and brought quite a bit home. Also shared two tacos, carne asada and carnitas. And of course their fabulous margaritas.

Definitely where ill be stoping next time im in the area. Definitely recommend to anyone Else in the area!

Got a table. Ordered food and drink. Then moved to accomodate larger party. Food took 20-30 minutes. I ordered fajitas, they forgot tge totillas, waited another 20 minutes for them. Only one wait staff for entire rest. Nit a good experience

Oh where to begin? First, I can honestly say once upon a time the food here was pretty good, but I can also say those days have apparently passed. Must have been their años del oro. The service was pretty bad, while she was polite and pleasant getting a drink refilled took much too long and it was not busy, in fact we were the only occupied table and there were only four people at the bar. She was also a bit of a space cadet, who asks if you want chicken or beef chili verde? It is definitively and exclusively a pork dish, again space cadet but polite. The food was bad, I mean real bad, I've had better tacos from Jack in the Box it was that bad, heck Chevy's was closer to authentic than this stuff. The beans were from a can and Rice a Roni makes a better Spanish rice than this stuff. The chile relleno tasted like it was likely frozen premade, it looked like a rolled up pepper with a little cheese and egg product of some sort but lousy. The tacos were ordinary, the meat bland, and served on premade hard shell tortillas like you'd pick up at the grocery store. The chips were also completely unremarkable and a little stale. Oh and about that chile verde, it was absolutely flavorless; the sauce tasted, well actually it didn't have any flavor at all, and the pork was old, dry, and sort of hard/overly firm. Suffice it to say I won't be returning and advise against going for the food.

We waited a long time to have our order taken. One waiter worked the whole room and kept apologizing for the delays. Guacamole good, margaritas strong, the rest of the entrees (tamale, taco, and taco salad) mediocre.

I am giving it a two because I've had decent experiences here in the past. The food is typical mexican with american influence... too much cheese but tolerable. Today has made me decide to stop trying to come here. I sat at the bar with a girl friend of mine and the guys next to us wouldn't stop trying to talk to us while calling us bonita....heckling... starring. It was sweet the first time with a compliment and then it got real creepy and annoying. Also the man next to me kept nudging me in the arm, mind you this is at 3 o'clock on a tuesday. The bar tender was also unhelpful to the situation. We chugged our drinks to try and leave and he wasn't telling us how much we owe to delay us, also joining in with the other two. Bad day vibes being an attractive under 30 year old. Shame for making women feel uncomfortable in your bar.

We were on our way to Portola from Sacramento - stopped in Truckee to get food as it was lunch time. Stopped at this place - only a party of four, ourselves and a couple of folks at the bar - so not real busy. Waited for a while for our server to come to our table. This young man came and ask if wanted something to drink - his tone and manner of asking from the get go was rude. after coming back with our drinks - he asked what we wanted to order. I asked if we could have separate checks - again, in a rude manner said "no - one check per table" after trying to ask a question, he just blurted out "what do you want to order". At that point, I should just have gotten up and left as I have never seen such rudeness before. Because we were tired and hungry - we ordered. Food was just ok. Never saw the waiter again until he brought us the check. So, to make a long story short - this young man must be related to the family owners as he would never be able to work in any other place with that attitude. As I mentioned before, food was just ok - a bit pricey for what you get in my opinion. I definitely will not eat there again.

I have tried many mexican restaurants and this is one of the best in my opinion. Simple reason - the food is fresh and tasty, the chilli relleno is superb because it is light on the batter. Tacos and enchiladas are also excellent and the margaritas are strong! Salsa is very good. Overall a great experience.

DRINK HERE, DON'T EAT HERE. Great Margi's very strong which is why I gave it a two star. The food is HORRIBLE. Salad came moldy and wilted, my friends chilly relleno was cold and mine, ordered Carnitas and tasted ok at first but when it cooled down became hard and beef jerky like. That's what happens when it is old and you either nuke it or over heat it. The beans had absolutely no taste and the rice was tasteless and not cooked completely. The chips are worst I've ever had. Decor is really bad not very clean. FYI, I saw the owner in Cosco buying supplies for his restaurant and he had a bunch of tamales in his cart, Hmmm. I really wish he would get his act together and hire a decent cook that knows about quality control and cares enough to not feed people trash.

Casa Baeza is just as you'd expect a dive restaurant to be -- big portions, strong drinks, good food. Our big group of 15 was seated in back and service was slow but friendly, with a few free shots after several pitchers if margs. Chile relleno was tender and tasty, chicken enchiladas as good as the Mission. Chips were stale but salsa was hot and spicy. For big groups, it's a good choice.

Stopped here on the way home to Lake Tahoe and we were disappointed in the food. Chips and salsa were not fresh or good, which should have been a clue to the rest of the dinner. Chile Relleno was cold in the middle, despite the "hot plate" warning, I'm sure it was a frozen, pre-prepared relleno, as the coating was not at all freshly battered. My husband had the 3 combo plate, taco shell was stale, the enchilada was bland and the burrito was filled with flavorless, boiled chicken. We love Mexican food- we were expecting much more and won't be back.

  • Debi N.

I'm from an area where Mexican food is familiar. The food at Casa Baeza, in my experience, is the lowest grade of Mexican food. The food lacks quality, taste, and is just poor. The chips taste as if they were from a commercial large bag, not freshly made. The only redeeming quality that give this place another star are the margaritas. You can choose the type of tequila (they have many options) and they are strong.

I personally love this place and the clay pot drinks!!! However if you're an outta towner might not be the friendliest place during the week and service gets super slow when busy

Great service. Good food. Accommodating for large parties.

4 stars Just for the clay pots alone! Food is better then any Mexican Restraunt in grass valley. So we got that going for us!

  • T. G.

We stopped in for a family lunch. The plus was that the service was friendly and the chips and salsa were great. The bad: There was little to no flavor. My six year old claimed the beans tasted like canned beans. Others were not sure of the type of meat in their dishes. We won't be going back.... ;/

  • Valerie B.

If you want to get blasted on two drinks, then this is the spot for you. I HATE wimpy margaritas and the bartenders there (owner included) are extremely generous with their pours...even on the top-shelf stuff. The food, on the other hand, can be improved. I have poked around and found a few dishes that I do enjoy....the Tilapia and Carnitas...also, the chunky guacamole. Other than that, I haven't exactly been wowed. I wish that they would serve a different salsa and the chips often taste stale. Most of the time the service is pretty good. I think out of like 10 times, I have only felt neglected once.

Casa is wonderful! We chose this venue for our wedding rehearsal dinner. Pitchers of margaritas for everyone! The food is average quality. Some of these reviews are written by 'bay area foodies' and this isn't the bay. No Mexican fusion dishes here, just normal Mexican food. The bar is delightful! The middle of the day will provide filled seats around the cave-like bar. I go 3-4 weeks before I need another Casa fix.

  • Tiffany O.

First off, a place has to be either really good or really bad for me to write a review. In this case, BAD! Upon entering, you will see that they have a very impressive tequila selection, the biggest selection of high end bottles I've ever seen short of BevMo. My husband and I had a drink at the pretty bar and decided to go ahead and try the food. Across the hallway from the bar is the dining room. All of the tables have chips and salsa already on them which makes it hard to tell the clean from the dirty tables. The chips were stale from sitting out. My husband ordered plain chicken tacos and a coke. I order a fish taco and chili relleno plate. Our colas were brought out first, a can and glass with ice. My husbands glass had bright pink lipstick on the rim. You could tell this glass was never actually washed, just dipped in wash water but never scrubbed. It was a perfect lip impression, and I can assure you that this person had some big ol smackers, GROSS! Of course they brought out a clean glass but at that point we should have ran!!! My husband liked his tacos but he had had a few drinks, me not so much. My chili relleno was a crappy canned chili with a weird egg wrap thing around it. Hard to describe but one of the worst things I've ever had in a restaurant. my fish taco was a corn tortilla with diced cooked fish, that's it, no crema or pico, nothing. When I could flag our server down I asked for some Tapatio (I saw some at the bar) and some lime. He came back with more salsa and left. I flagged him down again and politely asked for the lime again. He went to the bar, got half of a lime and walked over and sat it on the table. No dish. No clean hands. Just weird. My sweet husband got up and got the Tapatio for me. My taco wasn't much better with lime so I left my food on the plate and we payed, left a modest tip for the poor service and used the bathroom before leaving. It was filthy. NO tp, seat protectors or soap and trash was overflowing from the bin. Toilet was in desperate need of a deep cleaning. I wish I had used the bathroom first. I never would have eaten there if I had. I hate that the food and service were so bad I felt I needed to warn others. Go to Taco Jalisco for good Mex not this joint!!! The rice and beans sucked too

I had gone to CB for drinks with friends, and then we'd have dinner. The drinks are great and the bar crowd can be fun... However, the last time I went, I just went for dinner. I guess I had had a lot of fun at the bar everytime I had gone to CB before because I never noticed how BAD the food was. Everything tasted old and pasty with a hit of soap in the beans. Lord, if you do go here, make sure you stop in the bar for at least an hour to numb your taste buds. Cheers!!!!

  • Adam A.

The fact that this place has an average of 3 stars is testament to the fact that either: 1). Half of the U.S. population was born without taste buds or 2). Half of the U.S. population thinks Mexican food is meant to taste like wallpaper paste. We just ate lunch here with the family on the recommendation of one of Truckee's boys in blue, nice chap, terrible taste in food. I'll start with the good points: 1). not busy 2). friendly staff 3). great tequila selection Now onto the bad: 1). Bad, watery "salsa". 2). Refried beans only, no black bean, no pinto beans. Refried beans came out of a can if my taste buds were telling the truth. 3). Nasty, mushy, over-cooked bland rice. You can tell rice is overcooked when the individual grains explode and lose their shape. 4). The "beef" in the beef taco looked like it had come out of a can... 5). The "Chile Verde" burrito contained hard, tasteless boiled pork that someone had waved a small amount of green salsa over....not the slow-simmered pork in green chile sauce it's name normally denotes. Overall very poor, very "old school" pre-1960 style "mexican" food that also happened to be overpriced ($9 for any burrito is expensive, when it's this gross it's an affront). Gah!

We didn't arrive to Truckee till close to 8PM so we were starving and just wanted to eat. As we arrived to downtown, we came across this place so decided to give it a try. The place was loud and pretty busy probably since it was the night of the opening ceremony of the Olympics so we kind of had to talk loud ourselves. We were greeted by our friendly server with some chips and what seemed like mole sauce more than salsa. It was a tad bit spicy, but pretty good. We ordered a pitcher of margarita since it was only $16.95. It's not a big pitcher, but it was cheaper than ordering 4 glasses. The pitcher was just enough for a glass for 4 people. I must say that it was pretty strong or maybe it was the high elevation in Truckee because I did get buzzed off of the one small glass! For dinner, I ordered the Two Taco Combo plate with Chicken Crispy Taco and Soft Fish Taco. It came with rice and refried beans. Unfortunately, they didn't have black beans. The plate came out nice and hot. Since I was hungry, I ended up eating most of my plate except the refried beans, which was just too runny so I didn't care for it. Overall, I had a decent meal and left feeling full.

This review is for the margaritas at the bar. Not the top shelf one. Their basic $16.95 pitcher. Tried to get in for dinner but our party of 12 was too much for them to handle. They could only accomodate 8 of us. Hmmm... I guess the rest have to starve or eat take out outside? Our rafting guide at IRIE told us about the strong margaritas so instead of waiting for a table which we weren't getting, my hubby and I went to the bar for a pitcher of margaritas (kids waited outside). While our nanny went to fetch the car to round up the kids, we were in the tiny bar. I didn't know you could pick the tequila. I should have chosen a better one. It was cheap tequila and the bartender just kept pouring and pouring the tequila ..... I kept wondering when the other stuff to make margaritas was making it in the pitcher. I was hesitant to drink it but was told by my husband that we don't waste alcohol so get to it! lol! It was really strong. Like Holy Shit strong. My eyes watered. Good luck.

Made a stop here on the way to Reno just by passing through Truckee under the notion of "hole in the wall" possibly equates to good food/service. Didn't even bother looking it up on Yelp and thought to give it a try. Me and a buddy walked in and were not greeted immediately despite the fact that this place is very very small. We were seated in a back corner in a very tight spot against the wall with a teeny tiny table and the waiter (younger gentleman but didn't catch his name since he didn't bother introducing himself) only gave us literally a few mins to look through the menu before asking to take our order. We asked that he give us more time and when he returned- I felt like the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld was taking our order! I have to admit that I was surprised their chicken taco salad wasn't half bad and I ate the whole thing, but I did have a tummy ache the very next day which I found suspect. Overall- I would only give 2 stars due to a very small establishment that lacks the ambiance & service you would expect from a local establishment.

Oh lordy, this place seems to have lots of up and down reviews. My experience, was obviously a downer... First of all, this place has the worst margaritas I've ever had. They were ridiculously strong. You might as well order cheap shots of tequila, but if that's your thing, then maybe you'll like them! My brother order 2 pitchers, both blended and rocks, and both were equally terrible. The food itself was not good either. Everyone was disappointed with their meals. I had a cheese enchilada, which was definitely edible, but I could have made way better at home. Only redeeming quality was that our service was pretty fast, friendly, and decent (although one order mess up...). Overall, I wouldn't recommend Casa Baeza, and I won't be back.

  • Meghan W.

We were seated as fast as possible but the restaurant had two groups of 10+ walk in right before us an I'm sure the entire staff was a bit overwhelmed. We didn't mind hanging out at the bar for a bit. When we did sit down it took a bit for them to take our order (it was later in the evening and I'm sure the staff was tired but we were all starving and after hanging at the bar we were probably impatient too). We finally ordered and being that it was late in the evening we really were the one ones left in the restaurant (people were still in the bar area but we were the only ones at the tables .., and we were a group of 10). Our food took a good amount of time to come out which is why I only gave it 4 stars this time. It should have not taken as long as it did but when it finally came out it was delicious!!!! I highly recommend the tostada. Yum!!

Casa Baeza is our "go to" Mexican restaurant in the Truckee-Tahoe area. It's locally owned and the food has been consistently good throughout the years - and it seems to always have a crowd. It's reasonably priced too. But our favorite thing; the Margaritas. Delicious and they really pack a punch!

Good spot, good food and very friendly staff. I spend a lot of time in Truckee and this is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant.

Poor food advertised happy hour on menu and on sign in front of restaurant ended at 6 but waitress said it ends at 4 everyday. Too many good Mexican restaurants in truckee to bother giving this one your business

Terrible service, food, and a very loud woman talking at top of her lungs, and wait staff said they didn't notice. Used to be a great place, but the server could have cared less.

  • Nicole L.

When the margaritas are see-through, you know you're in for it, and they go down just sooooooo easy. There is a reason the locals nickname this place "Casa De Blackout." I had 2 margaritas that I remember, and I think a few I didn't... the next day I deeply regretted it, although I dragged my sorry butt outta bed to ski by 1pm. Just know what you're in for. It's a really fun spot. And yes, it's noisy - why? Because it's popular. Their salsa is delicious. I personally dig the carnitas. I've always had awesome service here- everyone is really friendly and laid back as long as your attitude is the same. It's Truckee; it's not West Hollywood. The tequila bar is impressive. I think there are somewhere near 100 different kinds, and they even have CHAMUCOS. Le sigh.

  • Skyler W.

No stars!!! GROSS..WORST MEXICAN FOOD I HAVE EVER HAD. ALSO IF YOU ARE GONNA ORDER MARGARITAS, GET TOP SHELF! I have come here once before and I remember it being pretty good. This time it was disgusting, the only reason I ate it was because I was starving after a hard day is skiing, other than that I wouldn't even feed it to my dog, and she eats cat poop. The ownership must of changed. Never again will I subject my stomach to this terrible food. Everything came out of a can. The chicken was rubber and tasteless. The chimichangas are pre made probably weeks ago. I can't stress how disappointed and how terrible I felt after eating here. Don't not eat here unless you really want to spend time writing an ass ripping review of this establishment. NASTY!!!!!

  • Jim J.

I've been eating here for 45 years, and the food has always been great. It was called " fermin's" back in the 60s, and was passed down to the kids when Fermin died. It's a little too chock full of tourists these days, but still good food.

Always hate to give a place one star but have no choice this time. The family did a little shopping and decided to try out Casa Baeza for dinner. We got the top shelf Margarita which was so strong it was barely tolerable to drink. In fact between me and my wife we left almost half of it. I ordered the Chili Colorado which the server said was one of there specialties. I have never had this dish served the way they served it. It was not chunks or cubes of beef but stringy fatty pieces of beef. It was quite disgusting and disappointing. My wife had a steak taco (same fatty strings of beef) found inside the taco. The kids had a bean and cheese burrito and cheese quesadilla. Those were decent but hey how can you mess those up. I have had better Mexican food off of a roach coach. Will not be back !

    (1)
  • Craig M.

We came here cause all the other spots were too crowded. The service was quick and efficient. Food was nothing amazing but definitely hit the spot. Charging for extra chips seems like a little excessive. I wish I did the 3 item combo cause it also came with a meatball soup or salad, but I just did the two item combo. Chile relleno and enchilada were both good. Also my cousins ranchero steak looked pretty good. Everything slightly bland for Mexican except the salsa has a little heat.

Order Pacificos....The margaritas are......uh.......different. Kinda like Mello Yellow Margaritas. We had a large group and they accommodated us well. Food was good, ambiance was ok, service was decent but a tad slow. Overall, I would probably go back.

Love this place. Came on a Friday night and Sunday morning and each were great. party crowd on Friday night, some locals mixed in with weekenders. Interesting drink menu with a wide selection of good tequilas, of which the bartenders have good knowledge. Definitely strong drinks. Sunday breakfast was great also. The owner came by our table and entertained us as well.

Recently dined at the bar at Casa Baeza and what you hear is true -- the margaritas are strong and delicious. We arrived around 8pm and the wait for a table was quite long, luckily we snagged two bar seats so got to enjoy the company of other happy (quasi-drunk) patrons and watch the bartenders work their magic. Otherwise, the ambiance in the restaurant seems sparse/barren. Seems like people come here for the food/booze... The food was fresh and fast, better than your average Mexican. After a day on the slopes, a few strong margaritas and some enchiladas was just perfect.

This food is so awful. Save your time and money and go to taco bell. You'll get a better meal. Margaritas were decent, but the food is disgusting. Service is horrible as well.

My Husband and I stop here every time we're in Truckee for a margarita. Margaritas are good, you have some tequila options. I always get the same thing. Cheese enchiladas w/ beans and rice. It's tasty. Service is good. Fellow diners are usually talkative and interested in where you're from. Nice atmosphere.

The drinks and customer service are great. The food is so so the rice and beans lack flavor. I had the Chill Verde and the green sauce was watery.

    (3)
  • S C.

Two stars only because they have killer margs. If that is what you want, head straight to the bar. Chips and salsa, meh. Green sauce looks like they put green food coloring in it, I make my own so I know what it should look like. One of our friends found an odd piece of metal in his enchiladas once. We have gone back 3 too many times because it is so close to our house, but it is not good.

Above average traditional mexican food with below average atmosphere and service. Sitting in the bar mitigates the atmosphere and service issues somewhat, as the bar is cozy and the bartender will make you a nice stiff drink to help you pass the time while you wait (sometimes for a long time) for your food. They definitely have an incredible tequila list, which is a big plus. The main dining room area is cheesy and over lit and feels more like a hospital cafeteria than a mexican joint. Ich. They have a standard menu and everything I've had there has been fair to good, but never remarkable. Waitresses are generally slow and not very attentive. Overall, this place is just ok. If you are more concerned with tequila selection than food quality, then this is definitely your mexican joint in Truckee.

We were at Truckee, CA on September 26 and had dinner at Casa Baeza. Very loud and a lot of people for a Wednesday afternoon! I had a beef burrito but it was covered with enchilada sauce, which I thought was wierd. Don had two tacos, he said they were ok. They need more help, the waitress was covering the whole restaurant, not sure how she did it.

*Advertencia: Número Uno* ====================== When they tell you not to touch the plates because they are hot it's for a reason. I left a good 1/2 inch of skin off each finger on the plates upon leaving. The food? It was so-so. Edible after a hard day mountain biking then watching World Cup Soccer. *Advertencia: Número Dos* ====================== When you're warned that the margaritas are strong and only to EVER drink a maximum of two, do it. They're not the best but they are the fracking strongest. My god. My head was thumping more than a kangaroo on Viagra the next morning. *Advertencia: Número Tres* ====================== Watch out for the local Truckee cops who sit just around the corner waiting for all you dumb people who've had more than two margaritas (see Warning : Numero Dos above) and think it's a swell idea to get behind the wheel of your SUV then drive it around Lake Tahoe like you're challenging Michael Schumacher to a race around the Nurburgring. You will get caught !!!

These are the most dangerous margaritas in town. A few pitchers of these, and next thing I know I'm a field somewhere in Truckee as a stand in for a kickball game. Good tiimes. Obviously, I wasn't in any condition to opine on the food. However, after coming back several times, I can now vouch for the food. The Swiss enchiladas are terrific. Just like most Mexican restaurants, the portions are way over the top but I sure don't complain after a day skiing or mountain biking. It's far from the cheapest Mexican food in town, but not prohibitively expensive. All in all, this is my favorite place for margaritas and Mexican food in Truckee.

  • Joe E.

Salsa is good. Rice is a little plain, decent over all. Service was great. Not cheap, but it was a welcomed meal mainly because it was open late. A lot of screaming locals in here so don't come if you're looking for a quiet meal. Come if you like nails on a chalkboard with bad accoustics. I would love to know what incidents led to them having to post signs, mainly in Spanish that under no circumstances will you get free chips and salsa. It will be $2 without exception. Does it keep out the riff raff. Evidently not. They need an English message to tell the leathered ski bunnies to take it down a notch.

XLNT Tequila bar. Try the Cava Antigua es muy bueno. An indistinct mashed beans and rice Mexi-dive. Chili Verde does not command any recommendation but after a day on the slopes its a git'er done place. Peeve they charge 2.00 for chips and salsa :(

We love this locals' joint in Truckee - They saved our butts once, when we didn't make plans for New Year's Eve and got hungry pretty late in the evening. The food is standard fare - more like SoCal Mexican food, if you know what I mean. Incredible selection of tequilas, priced about a third lower than the City. BUT - the margaritas are totally vile, made with Rose's, rather than lime juice. Only time in my life I can remember not finishing a margarita. I advise a shot and a beer, instead.

It's a bit off the beaten track of that tourist land called old-truckee, but if you've only got about 8 bucks left this place might suit you. Service is... there. The waitress didn't seem to care about the table beyond the ordering and the bill, but really who cares about a bunch guys that look like poor college kids (little do they know we're a bunch of poor law students -- slightly lower on the totem pole, I believe). My lunch was nachos -- about a pound and a half of 'em. The menu claimed these were "green salsa nachos" (or something to that effect), but there wasn't really much green to be found under the huge mound of beans, cheese, guac, piled on the traditional looking "$8 entree, mexican place" plate. Not bad, not great, but it was enough food to last me most of a 3-day weekend, and it didn't do a number on my stomach (aside from expanding it about half an inch). In sum: cheap (for where it is), moderately clean, not awful, spicy salsa, and $15 margarita pitchers (but don't quote me on that last one...).

First, I'm a Truckee local and frequent Baeza. However, you must be selective about what you order. I do prefer their asada tacos and their carnitas personally, but to each their own. However, be leary of a scam - their guacamole. A super small sized order of guac and mostly filled with chopped tomatoes, they charge $6.25 for it. Outrageous, and I'm totally pissed at Baeza for not informing customers, especially locals, of this overcharge. Piss of owner of Baeza, that's cheating people and you should know better!!!

MEH.... Had dinner tonight at Casa Baeza. First time for three of us, one in our party had had good experiences here several years before. Arrived just before happy hour ended. Got Happy Hour house margarita. Crazy strong! I actually had to ask bartender for more mix as I thought he might have forgotten to add any. Cheap tequila in house margarita. Ask for better. Food was average. Came quickly. Your basic burritos, tacos, enchiladas, good combos. Food not particularly memorable but filling. Many options for one, two and three item combos. Seemed to have a good mix of locals & visitors. Family friendly. Dining room a little loud & overly-bright with old chipped green & gold paint. Overall, worst margarita ever. If you like just alcohol this place is for you. Parking was terrible. But is was a Truckee Thursday. Two stars for cleanliness, speed & average food. Nice waitstaff. Meh.

Wonderful service. Our waiter was excellent. The environment is cheery and fun. Food is pretty standard. The guacamole was the best we've had in memory. Everything was quite fresh. We will definitely be back.

This place is not closed I know because I am sitting there right now I am pretty picky about my mexican food and I have to say it was very good. Had enchilada with tomatotilla sauce and it fresh and good! Chips are ok, salsa is good authentic tradtional sausa not the american version. Friendly attentive service!

Always thought Margs were garbage, but food was OK. Went against my sisters warning of this place going way down hill and wanted to fill a mexican food urge after a day of boating. Will listen next time. Food was the worst mexican I have EVER had! Chips ice cold and stale, salsa obviously canned. Chicken tacos came with a pre made shell and yes, chicken straight out of a can, YUK! Rice was just plain gross!

Cozy and delicious. I haven't had anything that wasn't great here. This is a great place to stop after exploring the mountains or snowboarding. If they improved their relatively uncaring/absentminded service, they would easily get 4 stars.

Got food poisoning one time and found a big black hair in my food another! Would never recommend this place!

Anyone like margaritas? This is the place to go. Over 50 tequilas at hand, and almost any one at the same price. Plus, these guys aren't afraid to drop half that bottle into a pitcher of margies. Food is authentic Mexican food, and at a reasonable price. Fast service too, just go in and grab an empty table with chips and homemade salsa already waiting and water and menus get dropped off quickly. I drove by the other day and the place was gutted, guess they are remodeling. Hope to check out the new Casa Baeza soon.

Very limiteed menu. Only have refried beans no black or other kind. No chorizo or pork only chicken and beef and one thing available with fish

I joined Yelp just to write this review... I got sick eating here. Not the food poisoning kind of sick.. my stomach was just plain mad at me for putting this greasy heavy not fresh kind of food in there. I think they might be saved by their strong margaritas because if I had some I would probably have blamed getting sick on the alcohol. Bottom Line: If you have a sensitive stomach don't eat here.

Three of us had a really good lunch here today. We were a little hesitant to stop in because of some of the other reviews. The ambience is plain and simple, but very clean, including the restrooms. Our server was very nice and attentive. We will be back.

The margaritas are what sets this place apart and keeps me coming back. I usually order a cheese enchilada with rice and beans, with sour cream and guac on the side and enjoy the chips and salsa dipped in my entree. I do like their salsa, but my BF says my breath smells like garlic or something all night long, so matter how many times I brush my teeth or use mouthwash! :) But to me, it's worth it a few times a year to sacrifice my breath for a yummy dinner and some killer margies that get you BUZZED! Bring a designated driver! And yes, the plates are hot. Don't touch 'em for a minute or so. That's so the cheese gets melted all over the top of your entree and beans. The employees are super friendly, and if you even speak the tiniest amount of spanish and say "hola! como estas!?" they reply back in the friendliest way. They have a ton of tequilas at the bar, and I usually try a shot of something different each time I go. Fun place, yummy food, delish margies. A good time. Not 5 stars, due to salsa causing bad breath, and once had a queasy stomach after eating there.

It's TOTALLY Truckee. Eat here and be proud. It takes just ONE margarita to knock you over here. Take a long walk afterwards to burn it off. Like, to Reno maybe.

This was one of those places a local resident suggested so we took a chance. I have to say though, reading all the mixed reviews after the fact, not sure I would've eaten here. Much to my surprise this place was excellent despite walking in and being the only customers other than a guy at the bar who seemed to be a fixture there lol. As with any Mexican place you can damn near base the quality of the food from the chips and salsa, which by the way were awesome. We ordered the large appetizer plate for lunch that fed three of us for $33! And let me tell you, it was enough for five people! Fresh, hot and delicious!! This was definitely not some dish that was sitting beneath a heat lamp awaiting our arrival, it was made to order and they did not skimp on ingredients. Our server was friendly, prompt and attentive (maybe because we were the only customers, who knows). Didn't think I would find Mexican food this good in Truckee especially coming from So Cal where you can find it in every town. We'll be back!!!

I liked this place. It was definately an experience. The food was good not great, but it had a great vibe - very Truckee. Of course the margaritas are strong as they are know for. The nice thing is that they move you through the place relatively fas.

i only wanna say a couple things...Casa Baeza has the best margaritas in town! hands down! I had one and it knocked me on my butt. The service is great here and they have a huge selection of tequila! The food is...OK. So go here if you want some apps and some BOMB drinks.

It's not just a dirty place, but it also has rude offensive service, crappy food, and they overcharged us for what was their mistake. The whole experience was so bad that I'm actually making an effort to write this review - my first one ever! I do not know what it was: maybe the guy had a bad night, maybe it's a language barrier, but a simple order went utterly wrong. I ordered *** 2 regular chicken burritos ***, and instead they brought us one burrito and one plate of fajitas. Huh? Moreover, when I ordered, the guy said they come with a side of salad or soup. I figured, alright, no chips and salsa (they charge ~$3 for it) but at least a salad. The salad, by the way, was a wet pile of stale greens, no veggies. My boyfriend had a soup that looked like water with 2 huge chunks of veggies, one of tomato and one of something else (potato maybe?). Anyway, when it became clear that there was a mistake, they did exchange the dish, though not without putting us down, but our bill was almost $10 over. When I asked why, I was told that we were charged for two sides because it would have come with fajitas - the sides we didn't ask for, nor wanted. Ookkkk... but $10?? for a tiny shitty salad and a cup of soup at a Mexican place?? At this point, we just turned around and left. A word about their burritos. When I was ordering them, I was surprised the waiter didn't inquire us about what beans we prefer or anything else, so I just asked him myself, and I quote, "can we have our burritos with black beans please". To that he replied, " re-fried beans only". I said ok. It would be no biggie, except when we got our burritos there were no beans in them! or rice, or anything else for that matter except for chicken and cheese, and the whole thing was served "enchilada style" or "wet", swimming in some greasy see-through bullion. What gives? The bottom line is I do not want to leave a restaurant feeling like shit both physically and emotionally. There are plenty of other Mexican places in the area, and you can bet, I'm not coming back to this one.

Consistent good foo, excellent strong margaritas right in downtown Truckee. I love it! If I could I would give it 4.5 stars!

Food options at the Hwy 89/80 interchange are pretty limited if you're looking for anything that surpasses the culinary lows of McDonald's or KFC. If you hop back on 80 and head one exit down to the main Truckee strip, there are more options. I was feeling the serious need for nourishment after a long night of imbibing and Casa Baeza hit the spot. I was in poor form, so I did not take advantage of the full bar, but the bartender was friendly and I liked him calling out the occasional que paso and adios to patrons. I went with the lunch special of a chicken enchilada with rice and beans ($7.50) and also saw the #22 which is the best of both worlds with one enchilada with red sauce and one with green sauce. Shredded, stewed chicken filled the enchilada and the red sauce had the appropriate level of flavor, oil, and cheesiness that I was looking for. The chips were on the burnt/over-fried side and the blended salsa was spicy but did not bring fresh tomatoes to mind. The enchiladas were exactly the kind of sit down, Mexican combo plate of restorative sustenance need to bring me back from the brink of pale, queasy hang-over land.

Love this place, as much for the experience as the food. Basic puddle-of-beans, puddle-of-cheese old school Mexican, cramped, busy, fluorescent lights, Formica tables, strong drinks, etc, and this is what I love about it. Nothing is more pleasurable after a day on the slopes. Oddly, my favorite Mexican restaurant. Can't wait to come very time I'm in Tahoe. If you know what it is and self-select, you'll love it.

it was an OK place. i probably wouldnt go back there if i had a choice next time. the food was decent, not great. the waitstaff were not particularly that friendly. they were fine, just not that friendly. it was a fun little place to go for dinner though. we definitely would have gotten a drink if we hadnt been driving. maybe that would have upped the points. ;)

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
