da maat, you da best! +parking lot available in the plaza. +variety of dishes available for a sundobu restaurant and I can't wait to try their kalguksu & nengmyun next time I visit! +i went to da mast for lunch on Tuesday around 12PM, which is peak hour for lunch but the place wasn't too crowded. this was nice since we got seated immediately. +i ordered mushroom extra spicy sundobu and it was awesome! loaded with soft tofu and some mushrooms. I actually think cho dang is better but last time I visited cho dang, their sundobu lost it's touch so unless cho dang proves itself to me, i must say da maat's sundobu is best for now. +notable ban chan: seaweed salad & potatoes coated in sweet soy sauce. -I thought that they provided small serving of banchan compared to other Korean restaurants. -i wished they threw in some more mushroom on my mushroom sundobu. it was definitely more like a tofu sundobu with sprinkles of mushroom. -service is okay. waitresses aren't rude or anything but they forgot about our rice until we mentioned it and my colleague's water glass was left empty even after she finished her meal. All in all, I'll be back to satisfy my sundobu craving and to try other dishes!

Went here twice over the summer! The food is pretty good. I have tried the beef kimchi soon tofu. It is made fresh and it is boiling hot when they serve it to you. And the color resembles lava, so it is suitable to how it is like; take your time while you eat it or else you'll burn your tongue like I did. The softness of the tofu and the chewiness of the beef worked so well together in my mouth, like yin and yang. A drawback of this place is the service. Both times I felt they were really inattentive. Once you got the food, you do not exist until it is time for the check. Both times I tried my best not to care or let it get to me. I just kept telling myself, they are very busy... And I think my good rating shows that it didn't get to me.

Da Maat is probably one of the better korean restaurants I have been to with good service. The servers here are really nice and quick to get your orders. Their menu has a good variety but my friend really likes their bibimbap here. So I tried their octupus/squid bibimbap. I really liked it and it wasn't too spicy. I didn't get to try their purple rice but maybe next time. Also, I like the banchans they serve. I think it's a good amount and a few are a bit different than the more modern korean restaurants I have been to. I will definitely come back and try their other menu items and purple rice.

This place is just ok in my book. I usually go to Lee's Tofu for soondubu but thought I would try somewhere new. We were seated really quick. Service was alright. Quick to seat us and take our orders, but not exactly friendly. Plus they were really slow to fill up our water and tea glasses. The side dishes seemed like they were days old... the kimchi was soggy. I hate when it doesn't have a crunch! The actual soondubu and rice were really good but nothing better than Lee's. Plus their soondubu is a couple bucks more. All in all, I probably won't return and will stick to Lee's. It's cheaper and their side dishes are more fresh.

The plan was to meet up with my friend Tina for dinner. We were trying to figure out where to go and when I suggested Korean food, she perked up with an enthusiastic YES! SERVICE: Very friendly, polite and attentive. Our meals seemed to come out of the kitchen in a reasonable amount of time, but for some reason her entrée arrived 5 minutes or more before mine did. FOOD: The one thing I REALLY enjoy about Korean food is the banchan (side dishes) they bring out! yelp.com/biz_photos/da-m… After looking of the menu I decided on the hot version of Bibimbap ($13.99). Lots of veggies, rice, mushrooms, some hot sauce and a fried egg on top. As this was the hot version, it was served in a very hot stone bowl. It was very tasty and heathy being it's all veggies. Yum! yelp.com/biz_photos/da-m… Soup served with our orders. Kinda like a miso soup, but at the same time, not. yelp.com/biz_photos/da-m… Tina decided on the cold version of Bibimbap ($12.99) Same ingredients as the hot version, very tasty as well. yelp.com/biz_photos/da-m… I guess I felt I was hungry enough that I needed to order the Wang Mandoo dumplings too ($12.99). They arrived with the dish and set them on the table. Holy Crap these things are GINORMOUS, WOW! Like 4 times the size of regular Japanese Gyoza! They were tasty, but ultimately, too big and too much for the two of us. yelp.com/biz_photos/da-m… OVERALL: A very pleasant experience, with good service and food at this Korean restaurant in Torrance.

I'm bumping up the score. I'm starting to love this place after dozen or so visits. When I am in mood for Korean, this place is aways my first choice. We maybe boring but we always order the same thing. My wife orders the chicken noodle and I order the soon dobu. Food is always consistent. Banchan varies with each visit but they are all good. We often ask for refills. This place can get busy and crowded but we've never had to wait to be seated. There's ample parking space if you are visiting for dinner. Once you are done, you can always walk over to Okrumong, or Tous Les Jours for dessert. :-)

Great food I had the soup thingy it was amazing, Long story short I will not be going back to choose dang this place kills it lot better service cleaner and food taste much much better, People are very welcoming very friendly and they are very generous with their portions (side orders), I would definitely be back and recommend you to check it out,

Why did it take me so long to come here?! I've had this placed bookmarked for so long, but my husband was never in the mood for it :( So instead, I took my parents and they loved it! I was afraid they wouldn't like it because all they know about Korean food is AYCE Korean BBQ. Whew! I would have never heard the end of it from my dad if he didn't enjoy it. Another great thing my parents loved about this place beside it being delicious--their soups come in steaming hot! Every time we get pho, they always complain that it's not hot enough. This time around, my dad kept repeating how hot it was no matter how often he stirred. Haha! To tell you the truth, I only had tofu soup for the first time just a couple of weeks ago. I didn't think anything of it and would never have except my friends asked to go to dinner and they chose a tofu soup restaurant. It's so delicious! So far I've only ordered the seafood soon tofu and it's extremely flavorful and filling. They serve it with a side of white rice that is so much softer than the white rice I normally eat. Could it be because of the pot they cook it in? We ordered the LA galbi, seafood soon tofu, clam soon tofu, and bibimbap. All were delicious and my parents loved everything they tasted. Service is quick as well. The employees are friendly, even though we weren't Koreans :) The restaurant is clean. It's not smoky or congested. I will definitely come back again!

One of the only true korean restaurants in town left. Ever since the kbbq movement, every korean restaurant that ive gone to lately all have that kbbq built into every table. It's just nice to go to a restaurant and not walk into meat grilling or that constant sizzle or be clouded in smoke. Koreans are not just known for their meat grilling but also for their great soups. Da Maat delivers in that department. Not only do they have soontofu but they have the same recipe as Torrance favorite, Cho dang. Combined with Kalbitang, Yookgaejang, mandoo gook every single tang, jang and gooks! Not to mention they also serve the essentials like bossam, nengmyun, japchae, etc. If you want just a regular korean meal i would recommend giving it a try. Or if Cho Dang or Lee's Tofu are busy, this place always has space.

Found this place on Yelp while looking for a Korean lunch restaurant in Torrance. It's located in a strip center on Sepulveda, plenty of parking. Kalbe 3 stars comes out s sizzling platter, a bit greasy Mixed tofu soup 4 stars excellent and extra spicy like I ordered it. Pollock stew 4 stars great flavor small portions for the $29 Stone bowl bibihim bap. 4 stars big bowl lots of toppings Service was a challenge since the Korean servers spoke very limited English.

Housemade spicy beef noodle soup is always a must order here. I also enjoy the cold noodles and bimimbap. It's a good Torrance Korean restaurant. I enjoy it and cho dang tofu the most.

I expected this place to be better since it has pretty good reviews. I ordered the beef rib and cabbage soup (Woogouji Galbitang) (around $14 and my boyfriend ordered the squid bibimbap. I think around same price as well. My boyfriend said that his bibimbap was just whatever... I tried it too and I've had way better bibimbap. My soup was just okay too. Overall, this place is a decent Korean restaurant but for the price the food isn't worth it. There are far better Korean restaurants for better prices.

One of the more authentic good Korean places I've found in Southern California. Very good service (waitresses were very friendly and careful with my kids with hot plates). Like everyone else suggested, the spicy beef gooksu was very good with the hint of ox tail. I thought their banchan was a bit boring though but that could be just a bad night since I've only visited once. The paajan (seafood pancake appetizer) and mandu (dumplings) were very good. Definitely can't wait for the net time to go back.

If you are curious about what else Korean cuisine can offer, then you owe it to yourself to come to Da Maat. The service here is quite fast and friendly and the restaurants decor is quite nice with wood flooring and paneling. One entire side of a wall is adorned with dozens of colorful bowls. Typical of koran establishes, you are served with an array of side dishes served regardless of your order. This includes kimchi, cooked radishes, potatoes, soy bean sprouts, etc. They will serve more if you like. I had a hankering for meat and ordered the bulgogi. The flavor was excellent and portion size was quite filling. It also came with a small soup and rice. My girlfriend ordered the cold noodles and soon tofu. She enjoyed both dishes which means something as she is Korean and sees this as Korean "home style" cooking. They have beer and soju as well :-)

Lived here for so long I can't believe I didn't come here sooner!! This is the best hanshik I came across in the South Bay. A bit pricey but you can taste the quality. We ordered dolsut bibimbap, wang mandoo, and spicy pork. Banchan was good too. This Korean approves. Will be back :)

It wasn't the worst or best Korean food I've had. Living in Orange County, there's a ton of Korean restaurants in a 5 mile radius, so there's more competition. Not to say there's not a lot of Korean restaurants in Torrance, but I have more access to Korean places, making me more picky on my asian restaurants, hence the 3 "A-ok" rating. It's not solely a tofu restaurant, as they serve other traditional Korean dishes, but they do serve a variety of Soon dubu soups for $10, a few bucks more than most tofu places. Better quality? Hmm I don't think it was any better, and it wasn't larger. Wish there was combo with an entree and soup. I added an order of galbi short ribs for $19.99, which probably wasn't any bigger than an order you get with a combo at a tofu place. So, $30 for a Galbi entree plus soup isn't cheap. Ouch!! The galbi was tender and delicious, but not enough to convince me it's worth $30. Stephen had the mild version of the soup and said it wasn't spicy at all, unlike the past trips to tofu places in Garden Grove or Fullerton. He could have gone up to medium. Overall, it serves the korean food fix. Service wasn't super either. You have to flag down a gal, and she gets what you want, but absolutely no smile or warmth. They do their job. Nothing more. So, 3 tofu soups plus a galbi entree came to $57, before tip. Not the cheapest eats. PS Looking at old photos from 2012, it looks like prices have gone up a buck or two since.

One of the few Korean places in Torrance that is not fusion, bbq, or tofu. They just have good, authentic Korean. I've had old style bulgogi, bibimbap, and yeukejang kalguksu. All were really good, but I thought the prices were a little pricey for Korean. Still, great place for lunch or casual dinner.

I've eaten at a handful of Korean soon tofu places with my girlfriend, mostly in Orange County, and came to Da Maat with her folks on a Saturday night expecting much the same experience. The restaurant is pretty nicely decorated, which I thought was a good sign. We normally get a soon tofu combination with galbi that we share, and an extra bowl of soup for me. Unfortunately, there are no combos available at Da Maat, so we ordered three soups and got a plate of galbi for us to share. The soups were $10 or $11 a piece, and the galbi was $20, so it was a bit pricey compared to other places. My soup with pork was good, but the pork was a bit scarce considering the higher cost. It was the first time I'd ordered soup "mild" and had it not be borderline too spicy for me. Here at Da Maat mild is indeed mild, and after a bit I wished I'd ordered it medium. The galbi was very good, but I don't think we got more than we normally do, and like the soups the galbi was a bit more expensive here than at other places. Service was okay. Our waitress cracked eggs into our soup but didn't scoop rice into our bowls, and didn't smile or chat with us at any time. When we asked for more tea, a pitcher was set on our table and that was it. The men's restroom wasn't bad, but there was a box of supplies and a couple of ladders propped up against the wall right in front of the toilet. Overall I'd say it was okay. Our bill for three soups and galbi came to $57 and change, before tip, which is more than we usually pay. I can't say our dinner was better here than elsewhere.

My favorite Korean spot in the South Bay. Order the Bossam Jungsik. It's a huge plate (medium size for 1, large size for 2) of delicious pork and vegetables. I get it every time. The pork is sweet and tender, the kimchi is the perfect mix of hot and crunchy, the portions are very generous. The service stands out! The servers here take a lot of pride in providing fast service that is attentive to details and quick to please. They are courteous and quick on their feet. Other menu highlight: yukgaejung (spicy beef soup). It'll make your nose run while filling your stomach. It's delicious and hot. Lots of banchan here, be prepared to eat a lot before your food arrives. I LOVE THIS PLACE. You should eat here ASAP.

Food was 4stars. Legit quality Korean food outside of Ktown - yay! But, REALLY overpriced - boooo. soon-tofu ranged from $11-$16 bibimbap ranged from $11-$16 meats, including bulgogi, was all around $20 hence the 3 stars

Da-Maat is a fast, decent priced & good service-d place. I come here a lot & have been coming over the last couple years as I'm a local, and always am greeted with quick seating & welcoming waitresses. They have really good "old style bulgogi soup", which has clear noodles in it~ I also enjoy the bibimbap here! I absolutely love "ban-chan" (side dishes), which they give plenty. Although, this is probably not the place I would go for soon doo bu, but there is a wide variety of dishes to choose from!

Not much of a fan. The place is located in a small Plaza near a Christian store (it literally is called "Christian Store") . Quality of the handmade noodles were good but pricey... I was disappointed to hear that the popular entre was not available around 6-7pm...i guess they are that popular? Ordered soondubu instead which was not satisfying. I am willing to give this place another try someday just to try their popular dish. If you need a dessert fix afterwards then try the bakery on the corner. The shaved ice next door is delicious as well if you're not paying for it.

Decent korean bbq. This is a family and kid friendly place because they don't have the fire in the middle of the table. It's a traditional restaurant where you order and they bring the food out. They are generous with the sides, you just have to ask for more kimchi etc.

My go to Korean restaurant in the South Bay when I don't feel like driving out to K-town. Love the surprised look on the waitresses faces when I greet and thank them in Korean. I always start with the haemul pajeon (seafood pancake). For main course, i either get the seafood and beef soon tofu or the hot bibimbop. If with my hungry friends and/or brother, I'll also order either a galbi or bulgogi to share. The banchan is always great tasting. The food here is solid and their beer is cold. Can't complain. A bit pricier than other Korean restaurants I've been to (namely in K-town) but it's worth it.

First time coming here a couple weeks ago and was extremely surprised at how good the food is. Ordered the Bossam Jungsik (Steamed Pork slices with Cabbage wraps), Yookgejang Kalguksu (Spicy Beef Soup with Hand Cut Noodles), and Old Style Bulgogi. All were excellent with the Bossam Jungsik being the star. Can't wait to go back and try other things on the menu.

Good hot tofu soup and sides. Wouldn't say this would be one of the top places, but it's good. Price is a bit high for what it is. The rice was awesome because it came in the hot clay pot.

Food is good but service sucks. some of the waitress just dont want to be there and its very noticeable. For me food is genreally good wherever you go, its the service that put one restaurant over the other. And it really is the management to get this right and hire the right people to work for them. I cant stand having to leave a tip for a bad service, just reinforicng the bad. Look at all the other reviews, its all about the service and restaurant owners just dont get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thr prices listed are out dated. Honestly dinner for two was $54.00?? Although I have nothing negative about the food nor service, the lack of transparency is both absurd & dare I say shady.

We got two clam noodle soups and one chicken noodle soups~ my mom and I like the clams~ but my dad does not like the chicken one very much. Overall it is tasty~ the kimchi is great.

Food is fine and comes at a great speed - my main comments would be that none of the food I had was particularly memorable (The chicken noodle soup, kaibi), and that the prices are a bit steep compared to other locations I have been to, particularly in the local area. (Price vs. portion size was not that great either).

Da Maat is the only Korean restaurant of its kind in the area. Not a BBQ, not a tofu house (although soon-dubu stew is on the menu) - Da Maat is a Korean traditional and comfort-food place. There are lots of items on the menu most non-Koreans will have never had. The menu is categorized into sections - Mandu (dumplings) - specializing in Wang Mandu (King Mandu) - these giant dumplings can be ordered in soup or steamed. - Knife-cut noodles - homemade noodles in various soups - Soon-dubu - the ubiquitous soft tofu stew. - Bibimbap - cold or hot. - Kitchen-grilled meat - bulgogi, kalbi, spicy pork. - Soups - kalbitang (beef rib broth), yukyejang (spicy beef soup), mehyuntang (spicy fish soup), etc. - Miscellaneous - this is where Da Maat shines for me since most of these dishes can't be found in Torrance. Kimchi-mackerel stew, bossam (do-it-yourself pork wraps), cod-radish stew, bu-dae chigae (army stew - so pedestrian! so delicious!), etc. If you think Korean food is just BBQ and soft tofu, but you like it and wonder what other Korean food you should try, you should visit Da Maat and try something you've never had before. Service is friendly and quick, the place is airy and the decor is charming - one wall is a large country mural and the opposite wall displays dozens of beautiful collected bowls.

This place serves up solid Korean food. I've never had a bad meal, and it has become my go to place for some delicious comfort food. Their hand cut noodles are to die for. My favorite on a cold day is the chicken soup with hand cut noodles. The soup is so flavorful, and the noodles are perfect. I also love their dolsot bibimbap, bossam, and neng myun. Everything is flavorful, authentic , and delicious. The service here is very friendly and efficient. The restaurant is clean. Even though it looks like there is a lot of seating, it can get pretty crowded here. There can be a wait during peak dinner and lunch hours. I definitely recommend Da Maat to anyone looking for a good Korean meal!

World most expensive Korean food. Even noodle soup... What's for?? I think they have been waiting for increasing minimum rate and food cost. Distracting Korean food's spirit. I doubt owner pays for reasonable payroll to employees.

Torrance Korean food nearly as good as hot spot Koreatown. All the side dishes, all the soothing green teas, and short ribs to knock your block off. This last time, I had Braised Mackerel -- interesting, but after a few bites, I wanted to go back to the Short Rib or Beef Bibimbap! #wellfed

This place is hit and miss. Had the CHICKEN KAL GUKSOO: broth wasn't as flavorful. Seemed watered down WANG MANDOO GOOK: had kimchee in the huge mandoo. The kimchee inside was a little too sour for me. Won't be ordering this again MUL MANDOO (boiled wontons): this was just meh. Wasn't flavorful at all. Will just stick with the old style bulgogi and chicken kal guksoo

One of the best Korean restaurant we have ever been. The spicy beef soup with hand-cut noodle is the best ($12.99). Even my 10 year old daughter who does not like spicy food chowed down half a bowl. The cold Bi Bim Bop was ok ($ 9.99), we should have ordered the hot stone bowl Bi Bim Bop for $2 more. Korean BBQ Galbi is always good any where.

their tofu is really good and i'd say much better than BCD. just like all other tofu places, they server a bunch of the preserved veg side dishes. the wait could be long especially during lunch hours. price is reasonable too.

It's raining! It's pouring! Have no fear Da Maat is here! Today was a hot soup kinda day. After reading several yelp reviews it looked like Da Maat was the perfect place for hot soup and I decided to go check it out. Da Maat's menu has several hot soups. They have soft tofu soups for $10.99. They have several hot tofu soups from seafood, pork, beef, vegetarian dumpling, mushrooms and kimchi. They also have various hand cut noodle soups, buckwheat noodle soups and dumpling soups. Prices for these soups vary from $9.99 to $12.99. Aside from soups, they have seafood dishes, Korean BBQ and bibimbap dishes. These dishes also start at $9.99 and go up to $24.99. My friend and I both chose to get a soft tofu soup. It comes with stone pot rice and banchan. The banchan is unlimited. You can request more of your favorite banchan when it runs out. My favorites were the Korean coleslaw banchan and the goguma mattang or sweet potato in caramelized sauce banchan. As for my tofu soup, I really enjoyed this. I chose to get the vegetable dumpling soon tofu and it had plenty of tofu and vegetable dumpling. From the moment the waitress cracked the egg into the boiling hot tofu soup, I was happy. It was very fulfilling and definitely was the answer to the cold day. Aside from the food, I also really enjoyed the complimentary unlimited hot tea that was served. I am a big tea drinker and really enjoyed the warm cup of tea. I liked the food, tea and the overall atmosphere of this place. It's a very nice looking eatery and it is very clean. Overall this place is so heartwarming and pleasant. It was the perfect place for this rainy day.

Da Maat has a variety of Korean dishes. If you are looking to get a tofu dish or other dishes they have options outside of Korean bbq. The location is spacious, and can hold a good number of people. The service can be a bit off. I guess it really depends on what time you go. When it is busy they are not too attentive, but when you go during a down time, they are pretty good at getting you everything you need. Da Maat is not the fanciest place, but its also not a whole in the wall. So if you are looking to try a Korean restaurant this is a good option.

Fairly good. Ban Chan is skimpy here wish they gave us bigger portions. Spicy here is not spicy enough for me for some reason. Order extra spicy if you like spicy normally.love that they keep the place well ventilated and cool room temp to prepare you for the BOILING HOT noodle bowls and tofu to come. DO NOT complain that is cold when you get there. You will be sorry when the food comes and you realize that you are grateful as you start to drench in sweat from eating both hot in spice and hot in temperature food. Ordered the Oyster Tofu. While the tofu was silky and delicious, either the oyster disintegrated in the broth or there were NO OYSTERs that were visible. Won't order again. Dinning companions ordered handcut noodle bowls and slurped up every last bit. Plan on returning to try noodles and other menu items.

This is probably my go to place for Korean food in Torrance if I don't want soon doobu or KBBQ. It's nice that they have a wide selection of dishes, whether it's dumplings, noodles, seafood, and meat. I came here for lunch today, and as usual, the food was great! I ordered the hot bibimbap, and although it's a simple dish, it was really well presented and really delicious. There were a lot of vegetables, mushrooms, and meat too! It was a really colorful dish, and at the center of it was an egg yolk! I really like egg yolks, and breaking the egg yolk and letting it run and mix through my dish made it even more flavorful! I really like the hot bibimbap because it's served in a stone pot, and the rice that touches the pot becomes crunchy after awhile, and it's a nice contrast to the fluffy white rice. The side dishes that the meals come with are also delicious! I really like the kimchi radish because it helps clean your palate and is very refreshing. Another favorite of mine is the potatoes. The service is average here; some of the waitresses are really nice while others are not as attentive and prompt, so it's a hit or miss with service here. Other than that, the food is great!

AOK I had a very early lunch at about 10 am nd opted for bulgogi. It came with 7 banchans. The restaurant is super clean and this service is great . Overall my meal was a okay. I am glad they are open so early. On the same no, my meal ran about $14 which I feel is a little bit expensive.

When I'm feeling like eating rice out of a stone bowl, I come here. Here are plenty of Korean restaurants sprinkled in the South Bay but the waitresses here are so kind so my loyalty lies here at Da Maat. The hot tea is delicious and they have yummy side dishes-the potatoes are my favorite. Now I've only had the tofu here and I don't even like tofu tbh, but my go to dish is the clam tofu, ordered spicy. I can finish that bad boy.. Well in two sittings. It's a lot of food. I'd definitely give this place a try when you're in the mood for a hot meal.

The soondubu is nothing special, my favorite is still at Chodang which trumps any other soondubu place. I do appreciate the side dishes and I love the environment here with all the old tea cups which surround you, it's like I'm in Korea if this is what Korea is like. They used to have sul lung tang but they got rid of it and now only have Galbi-tang. I'd go here if... it looks like people like the bossam plate here but if I have a choice I'd choose Chodang every time since the seafood soondubu just has amazing flavor when ordered as plain or white. Also, this restaurant is incredibly slow with bringing out soondubu, maybe 15-20 minutes to get one order, versus Chodang, so much faster.

This is one of the best Korean restaurants in the area. The food is prepared in-house and quite delicious. The banchans (side dishes) are some of my favorites in the area. From the potatoes to the beans, to the absolutely delicious kkakdooki (radish kimchi-like side dish), the flavors and everything are definitely on point. I personally don't like the soontofu here as much as other places... but everything else that I tried here is delicious. I like their yookkyejang (spicy beef soup) and their dolsot bibimbap (stone pot mixed rice) a lot. The spicy pork bulgogi and the regular bulgogi here are good, too. I have yet to try their famed kalgooksoo (knife cut noodles), but I'll try it sometime, for sure.

One of my favorite local Korean restaurants that is NOT k-bbq! I have been coming back here for years for their combination tofu soup or their dried cabbage & beef soup. Their food is very hearty, satisfying and feels like home cooking. All the waitress ladies are very pleasant, friendly and efficient. It is also one of the cleanest K-restaurant around which is very important to my J-wife. Their prices are very reasonable. I love the wall decor of rice bowls on the pigeon hole shelves, which is innovative. The restaurant is a comfortable place to be. The reasons above are why I end up coming to this restaurant extremely frequently.

The food is decent but it's nothing special. Their hand cut noodles are good and the soondobu is pretty flavorful but it's nothing that you can't find elsewhere. It's a bit pricey and it's one of those meals where you know you'll be hungry again in a few hours. Just not worth it for me to come back. The restaurant is clean and the servers are nice.

The kind service I got here was one of the best I've received in a while. The nice Korean ladies immediately brought water and after we ordered, they rolled out the complementary small side dishes (the best part about going to a Korean restaurant). The dishes were reasonably priced. They definitely made eating tofu more delicious! The seafood tofu dish is a must try! Not too salty, but still goes well with the large portion of white rice. Even after eating it all, you don't feel to full (it was all the tofu). It's worth a trip there for some good, authentic Korean food.

Walked in and saw a restaurant filled with mostly Korean customers....good sign, right? I enjoyed eating lunch at this place. The restaurant is clean, service fast and the food is good. We ordered the octopus bibimbap and the spicy beef soup with handcut noodles. The octopus bibimbap was good and definitely had a kick of spiciness. They give you plenty of kimchi and octopus in the dish so you're not just eating spoonfuls of rice. Although I thought that this dish was good, I think I would still choose regular bibimbap if I had to choose between the two. The spicy beef soup was delicious. I would get this dish again just for the noodles....they were perfect! The soup was thick and spicy and coated the noodles with each bite. These noodles tasted fresh and were well made...thick-cut and not overcooked to where the noodles became soft and soggy. The only thing about this restaurant is that it's a little pricier than some of the other Korean restaurants in the area but this is a place that I would come back to again.

Definitely one of the better korean restaurants in South Bay. Everything I've ordered here has been pretty good. I've tried their octopus bibimbap, arrowroot naengmyun (cold noodles), different flavored kalgooksoos, and their kalbi. I wouldn't recommend their kalbi, only because it's pricey for what you get, but their noodles are all really good. My favorite is their yukgaejang kalgooksoo, which is their knife cut noodles in their spicy beef broth. Yum!! Sooo good. Starting with their banchan, it's all very authentic and flavorful. The restaurant is clean and the decor is cute. There really isn't anything I can fault the restaurant on, and I usually come at least once every few weeks for lunch. Solid, reliable, and great food. What more can you ask for?

This place is an just an okay spot if you're looking for Korean food. I came and ordered the soondubu because I was craving it for some reason. I got the one with beef and kimchi. The meal itsle comes with the tyouval arrangement of Korean side dishes. The soondubu is like a tofu soup and you can make it as spicy as you want. I ordered medium and it really wasn't spicy at all. The soup had zero flavor. Very very disappointing. The rest of our group got beef noodle soup and bibimbap and they weren't too enthused either. Honestly I've had better soondubu at ayce kbbq than this place. Definitely not craving to come back here. If you like antique bowls on a wall then that may be the only reason anyone should come here. Otherwise stay away.

Thanks to Yelp we checked out this Korean restaurant in Torrance. It's located in a strip mall on Sepulveda Blvd. We both ordered the Bibimbap and the Seafood Pancake -- both were very good. Restaurant is very comfortable and clean. Service was a bit off since it was busy. Looks like they have a lot of regular customers. Others say there's better but I definitely recommend it if you're staying in Torrance.

Ordered Old Style Bulgogi and Chicken Kalguksu for take out. Food was still warm when we got home and husband finished his Bulgogi before I had a chance to try it. Chicken Kalguksu was good!! Noodle was chewy and the soup was flavorful. Can't wait to go back for their Chicken Kalguksu!

Food quality is good, but it is way over priced. We had lunch and ended with a $30 bill here with just two dishes.

Decent restaurant with ample parking, Only gripe was that I needed to pay extra for the rice and it wasn't free with the main dish... Although the portion was decent and the food was fresh, if one is willing to go to Gardena for Korean food plenty are avaiable for less.

A legit spot for various Korean grub, this was my go to for soon dobu, korean bbq, and bibimbap. The banchan varies each day and they are nice about refilling them. It can be hard to get the attention of the servers (all korean ladies) but you just have to be direct and not wait on them to check on you. If you're looking for a bbq soon dobu combo this may not be the best stop since everything is separate but they have such a good variety of cold and hot dishes so you are sure to find something you like. Also, the inside decor is pretty nice so it's good for groups and family.

It is hard to find this restaurant because you cannot see it by driving. It is in the same plaza as Tous Les Jours bakery cafe and other Christian store. Only thing I like from here is Yookgaejang Kalguksoo (spicy knife cut noodles). I think they are actually well known for that. Their old style bulgogi is good too. Overall, other than the yookgaejang kalguksoo I mentioned, I wouldnt come here. Why? Food here is way too expensive. Its a lot easier to find better korean restaurants in Torrance area.

Spicy Beef Soup - delicious. Highly recommend. One of the best I've had compared to other ones Mandu (dumplings) - stay away, one of the worst I've had. Some of the meat were still a bit frozen... Seafood Tofu Soup - pretty good, but I've had better. Still a solid choice. Galbi - not so good. Meat is not tender enough. Would stay away Bulgogi - one of the better ones. Would recommend.

I always am on the lookout for Korean foodies. I've had this place bookmarked on Yelp for awhile now, and I'm glad I finally hit it up! They serve not only tofu, but lots of other authentic Korean foods as well, including one of my favs-- bossam, or boiled pork wraps with kimchi and cabbage and radish wraps. So crunchy and flavorful. The cleanliness and atmosphere only added to the experience. The service was a tad on the slow side, but the variety of foods and sides they offered made up for it. I'm glad I checked it out, but I think I can get my Korean fix in K-town. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come here again.

We came here on a Sunday. There were maybe four other parties. The place was not busy at all. But the service was very slow. The food is not that great. We got three dishes and they were all average and tasted like they put in a lot of MSG. My husband got rice that was old and dry. Why would you serve something like that? I wouldn't come back here.

I have a 1 yo and there are fewer places that serve Korean BBQ without a grill on the table - this is one of them. And because of this, it is a very popular place for families with small children. Every table but one had toddlers and small children. Sadly, the management has yet to adjust to this high demand for families and only have 2 high chairs. I counted 5 toddlers sitting in mothers' laps, including my own. At one point a father was hovering over another table waiting for them to sign their check before snatching their high chair (we got there before this family, but what can you do). I'm hoping this is a fluke because of the holiday. The place was full, but people didn't seem to wait long before being seated. The old style bulgogi was delicious and the sides were all great. The dumplings however were nothing to write home about; all I could taste was ginger. The menu was very limited and I don't recall seeing a children's option. I'm willing to come here again, provided there are enough high chairs available, otherwise I'd go somewhere else.

Eating at Da Maat was like having a K-Pop Party in my mouth ... with Kalguksu Noodles, Mandoo Dumplings, and Soon Tofu playing the part of Psy, Girls Generation, and 2NE1. Gangnam Style is so August. It's October, Jagiya ... It's time for Da Maat style! Oooo Spicy Noodles. * Yookgejang Kalguksu (Spicy Beef Soup w/Hand-cut Noodles) $11 (4.5/5 stars) Addictive = superior Spicy Soup plus chewy knife Noodles and shreds of Beef. Do not ask me to share. Once I started eating, there was no sound except the noodles escaping the chopsticks between my lips. Don't bother me. I'm slurping. * Mul Mandoo (Boiled Dumplings with Beef & Pork) $10 (4/5 stars) What's not to love about Garlic and Leek flavor bursting from perfectly-steamed Dumplings. These mandu (or mandoo) are very reminiscent of north China dumplings more than their Canton or Japanese cousins. Can't wait to try its big brother - the Wang Mandoo which is King-size. * Seafood & Beef Soon Tofu $10 (3.5/5 stars) Better broth and terrific tofu were served like it is at most places: boiling hot with a fresh Egg and side of piping hot White Rice. Olivia rated the tofu at 4-stars while I gave it 3. We'll meet half-way at 3.5. * Banchan (Small Side Dishes) Not bad. The Fermented Tofu, Seaweed Salad, and Kimchi were the best and worthy of refills. Da Maat is all that ... and more. Sure, it is pricier, but it is better. South Torrance has a lot of Korean restaurant competition. Da Maat sets itself apart with vivid flavors, a classic clean atmosphere, and swift service. Forget about Wonder Girls or Hyuna ... ok, that's not possible ..., but at least pause YouTube for dinner and head to Da Maat for a K-Pop cuisine party in your mouth. "I want nobody, nobody, but you; I want nobody, nobody, but you"

Boiled dumplings are totally NOT my thing. I really dont like that slimy gooey texture that boild dumpling dough has. And even when you take their dumplings home and panfry them it so isnt worth it. They put way too many vegetables in their dumpling meat. And the texture of the meatball inside is off. So many better dumpling places in San Gabriel Valley. Also had what they call the Spicy Beef Soup. It is a big bowl of thick cut noodles in a red colored soup. But spicy it is not. Beefy it is not. There were like 5 tiny shreds of beef in this giant bowl of near-zero flavored soup. I had to add salt and chili flakes to give it some taste. But even by adding a little BAM to my soup, the thick doughy noodles had no flavor to them. I think its the same dough they use to make the dumplings.....not good. Had the kalbi also. Again, Ive definitely had better. Side dishes were pretty good though. Service is terrible. You constantly have to flag them down if you want anything, be it some more water for you 3 oz cup, or more side dishes, or more flavor for your food. I felt like I had my hand raised half the meal.

The bibimbap was very good, and I found all of the banchan to be agreeable choices (no raw oyster please!). The only reason I dock a star is because the price is pretty high and the service left a bit to be desired. Still, good Korean food!

Every tofu house offers something slightly different. I loved the condiments here and the amount was perfect for me as many places have something I never touched. But here, I liked all of them. The main, Kimchee soon dubu was just right and the crunchy rice afterwards was perfect! Friendly service too.

Came on a Monday night. The place was about half full. It was a nice restaurant and seemed clean. The Service --- The service was fine. We were seated right away and everything came out in a timely manner. Our server was nice. No complaints. The Food --- The banchan was okay. They had my favorite cucumbers. The bean sprouts, which I usually like, were not so good here. They had really big bean things on the end. I know they always have them, but these were unnaturally large and had a weird crunch when I ate them with my soondubu. I got the beef spicy soondubu. The flavor was fine and it was pretty spicy. However, not as spicy as I would like it to be. As always, I compared it to Cho Dang and it just wasn't as good. But definitely A-OK. The Prices --- It was actually a little bit more expensive than usual (about $1 more expensive haha). However, as often as I get soondubu, I notice when there's a price difference. I usually pay about $11 including tax and tip, but here, it was more like $12-$13. Overall, it's A-OK. Probably won't come back though.

This is a small restaurant in a shopping strip. We went on a weekday evening for dinner, and it was pretty busy. They had a wall that full of decorative rice bowls--cute. We were sat down pretty quickly. Hubby got the naengmyun, which is a buckwheat noodle bowel with a cold and tangy broth. Perfect and refreshing for a hot day. I had the bibim naengmyun, which is spicy. It has less broth than the naengmyun, but it is still cold. It has radish, Asian pear slices, veggies, pork slices, and a hard boiled egg, simi. It was quite tasty and refreshing. Good amount of tang and spice. Their were a good variety of fresh banchan. The service was nice and efficient. I would come back to try other dishes.

Their King Dumplings are made in house, once you order! They're perfect by themselves or in their spicy soups! My husband ALWAYS orders their beef bulgogi. The portion is reasonable and so is the price ( about $14 for a plate). Their sides are pretty tasty too, my favorite is their cucumbers in spicy sauce. I always order their beef kimchi tofu soup, it is DELICIOUS.COM! Full of msg though, so make sure you drink plenty of h2o! Service is quick and friendly! We try to come back at least once a month. :)

Let me just preface this intro with: I'm Korean. And being Korean, I love my food. This place has a great assortment of the CLASSIC Korean foods as well as their ban chan (side dishes that come out before your main meal). The place is brightly lit with natural light, the walls are decorated with photos of the motherland...& kimchi jars. The servers are super friendly so you will never feel intimidated coming here if you're not Korean. Now I must go and finish my Chicken Noodle Soup-Korean style!!!

A really nice little find of a Korean restaurant in the S.Bay! We shared the hand-made pork and kimchee dumplings and I had the squid and octopus bibimbap. My wife had the naeungmyun (spicy cold noodles). It was all very fresh and tasty and seemed rather healthy for as filling as it was.

A music project I am working on brought me to this center the other night because I had to research something at the Family Christian Store that anchors this mini-mall. It had been years since I visited this store because everything could be purchased online these days but was glad I did because I then had a chance to check out some of the new restaurants that I noticed had moved into the area. Da Maat drew my attention, firstly because of the name and then when I saw it was a Korean restaurant, I was really interested and looked it up on Yelp and saw that a lot of peeps like this place so I decided to have dinner here. I immediately noticed one of the walls that had a lot of rice bowls which I thought was really interesting. I was welcomed and directed to sit at one of the tables and given a menu. I informed the lady waiting on me that it was my first time and looking over at another table indicated I wanted something similar to what they were having and she pointed it out in the menu. I ended up ordering what was called a Beef Tofu soup listed at $9.99. She asked me how spicy I wanted it and I noticed they had 5 levels of spicy on the menu. I said I like spicy food and she assured me that the medium spicy would be good. I appreciated her looking out for me. After a few minutes, I was delivered a bunch of small dishes, the banchan, that was to accompany my meal. It all looked really tasty: yelp.com/user_local_phot… Then, my server dropped off a covered stone pot. I was about to peak into it but she then told me it might not be ready yet and after a while, she came and lifted the cover to reveal that it was white rice with a few peas on top: yelp.com/user_local_phot… Next came a wildly boiling pot of some really delicious looking soup: yelp.com/user_local_phot… My server took the raw egg, cracked it and plopped it into my boiling hot pot. It was so good and I really enjoyed my dinner! I really appreciated the friendliness of all the wait staff who I suspect were probably Christians because I could see the light and love in their eyes that went along with their friendly and warm smiles. You don't always see that but when you do, you really notice the difference. I would definitely come back here again and am thrilled to have found this place.

I love this place for authentic Korean food!! It seriously comes close to the food I had in Korea. Located in a plaza I would have never noticed it if not for yelp! Pretty much everything I've tried on their menu is so good! Their Bossam is amaaaazing!! I have yet to find a place that makes anything comparable. I highly recommend the pork wraps, but honestly you can't go wrong with pretty much anything on the menu. Plenty of parking, really cute establishment and decor and decent service. Eating here makes you forget that you're in Torrance, very authentic feel.

Like my coffee and men, I like them extra hot! :-P Just like the way I like my soup and food. The temperature, that is! But I seem to be not too satisfied with the temperture of their food at Da Maat. Let me explain... Stone pot Bibimbap- $11.99 was about a 3 stars rating for me. It was an average bibimbap and it wasn't too memorable. I don't think the stone was hot enough, because my rice never got crunchy burnt, not even a little bit :-( Spicy hand cut noodle beef soup- $10.99 This was a 3.5 to 4 stars. The noodle was delicious and chewy. The soup base was sweet and tasty. It was really good!... BUT the temperature of the noodle soup was not hot enough. It was kind of luke warm and by the time we were half through, the noodle was just not hot anymore. You can pick your spice level which is good for us. We order mild and it wasn't spicy at all but had the tastes. Side dishes/ banchans were good. 7 dishes were plenty. Kimchi, sprouts, tofu, cucumbers, eggplant, cabbage, etc. A little bit over rated in my humble opinion, but overall the food was good. Friendly and fast customer service. Plenty of free parking. Overall, 3.5 stars good!

The kimchi was horrible.. not a ounce of honesty in its making, to sweet and fresh, not even a hint of fermentation fizz so it was just made this morning destroying traditional korean cooking right there.. the coloring of the side dishes are traditional, korean food is mentioned to be colorful and to the season. The Bulgogi is lacking in flavor and color, the give you a gross amount of it and fluffy it up to look like it's piled on the plate to cover up the lack of taste or visual appeal.. and for the price for korean version of street vendor food, its extortion.. even the lowest places in LA county can make a far better rendition of bulgogi for cheaper the price.. there is a waffle sandwich place in long beach on anaheim that makes a better bulgogi for cheaper with waffles.. oh and the sub mini rice bowl, traditionally a bigger bowl or crock of rice is left at the table so you can self serve youself, about two to three more rice bowls.. this place is ripoff

I've been to Da Maat many times now. Their dishes are a bit on the pricey side but they are pretty consistent in quality and taste. I like their attention to details. Even with the banchan dishes, they give good varieties and are all very flavorful. Love the traditional decor and convenient location. My stable for Korean style comfort food in the South Bay.

Came here to visit my family and i couldnt believe how bad it was! beef tofu soup tasted super watery with bland flavor...seafood tofu soup was just the same. Sigh... Their spicy noodle was very bland w no flavor as well. The kalbi and bulgogi was very dry but flavor was not bad. The kimchi dumpling and sea food pan cake is prob the only thing i would order if i had to suggest something on the menu. Service was ok, ahjumahs were kinda nice. I see good and bad reviews. Maybe the chef is inconsistent??

I love Korean food and have probably eaten my fair share of Korean food over the years. I must say that most restaurants I've tried has at at least a couple of dishes that they excel in. The same goes for Da Maat. I'm not sure if everything here is good. I must say that the dishes range from nah to ok to I've had better. But what I come here mainly for is their "Bossam". Steamed tender pork wraps and their special shrimp sauce. It's quite excellent. It's pricey but large enough to share with someone else or as an appetizer for your group. My only caveat is when you order one and there's too much pork fat. Eek. But the dish itself is very pretty. Their banchan has a variety of side dishes which includes cucumbers, kimchee, tofu and etc. also very good. The restaurant is charming and clean. Good for families and groups of friends.

I've been here several times and I've tried a handful of dishes. My favorite dish and the one I always keep coming back to is the yookgejang kalguksu (spicy beef hand cut noodle soup)! It's so perfect for a cold day! The hearty spicy broth, chewy thick noodles, with the tender beef pieces and egg... mmmm so good! The portions are very generous and prices are fair. Service is also good. Solid restaurant in the South Bay for some comfort Korean food!

I wanted to like this place. It got good reviews on yelp and the interior decor was cute. I got here and saw the menu and noticed that things were a little on the pricier side. $10.99 for tofu soup and $10.99 for chicken noodle soup. I mean that's the price for a buffet where you can get salmon, all kinds of meat, shrimp etc. That's okay I thought, it's in a different part of town and maybe it's really good. I ordered those two items and was immediately disappointed when I tried the pork tofu soup. It literally taste like the BCD tofu kit that you can get form the grocery store for $1.50 ( I think the BCD kit might be a little better actually). The chicken noodle soup saved the day. The broth was good and the noodle was even better. I ate half the bowl and shared the other half. Service was nonexistent. You kind of have to bother the ladies for extra ban chan or refills. They will not approach you to ask. The ban chans were just ok, my friend noticed that the table next to us got things we didn't get maybe they only do that for certain customers who knows. Kind of shady if you ask me. I only liked the potato but when I asked for seconds they said they were "all out" so they can't bring more. That's fine, it's lunch time on President's Day Monday and you're out of one of the simplest things to make. Which reminds me the only time I was ever approached at this restaurant by the waitresses was when they shouted GOODBYE on my way out. My friend said that the food was kind of bland but we felt good for eating light. I left full and went shopping. About an hour later the msg poision hit me hard. My head was spinning and I felt too lazy to even walk. I just went home and slept it off. It wouldn't be fair for me to say that this place sucks because I only had two things but I'd probably never come back here. It's always unpleasant to find out your food was loaded with msg the hard way. Especially when you were left to believe otherwise with your bland food.

Finally got to try this place and I think I'm in love. Noodle is my favorite food and their hand cut noodles is now on my top 10 noodle list! Got the hand cut noodle soup with clams and I loooove how the thickness of these noodles are uneven, yet they were cooked to the perfect chewiness in yummy broth! Seafood pancake was decent, nothing glorious. The bibimbap came with 2 options, regular or hot stone bowl. We got the hot stone bowl because I love burnt crispy rice, however, I was slightly disappointed with how little burnt crispy rice it came out to be. Service was great, even when we were their last customers. Will definitely be back to try other dishes!

Update: Since my last lengthy review...The name always throws me off. One, because I don't know what it means and I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing it correctly. We're regulars now with son taking up to half of hubby's noodles, the kal guk su (knife cut noodles) which is so much better in the soup than with the rice. We often order the steamed mandu (gyoza egg rolls) as well so Hubby ends up putting some in his soup to replace the noodles my son eats. The side dishes are good with the potatoes being my fave. The waitresses recognize us and are very friendly. When I want soon tofu, I'd rather skip the lines at Cho dang and come here as an alternative. The old style bulgogi is a good one for the kids. It's kinda like a sukiyaki style of bulgogi with the glass noodles, a good choice for those who don't like spicy. Don't expect bbq beef here.

Yes, I crave this place!! It's such a cute little place, with bowl decorations and just a super homey feel. The dishes here are all good, starting with their dumplings, to their hand cut noodles, and juk gae jiang (spicy beef soup). There hasn't been anything in there that I haven't liked so far. The only downside - it closes too early :(

Great dak kalguksu--almost as good as Ma Dang guksu in ktown--but super slooooooow service. Been here 2-3 times and it's always slow, probably because there's often only 1 waitress working at the time. I've always gone during the early lunch hour too (11-11:30) so no lunchtime rush. The ajumas here also have some attitude-- and I don't mean the typical brusque manner most Asian servers have, and which i pretty much expect and am used to. Like if asking for more panchan (and their selection is nothing special) they'll respond with some hostility. Last time I was here my frIend only called the waitress over and before she could speak this ajuma was snapping at her "what? What do you want? " & then banged down the panchan when she came back later. Prices are high, too, for what they are, and other food I've had here is unimpressive (e.g. haemul soondubu, bibim neng myun). The place itself is nice looking though, I like the myriad bowls they have decorating one wall I'm their individual wooden cubbies. The only thing that would make me come back is the dak kalguksu (delicate flavor, great noodles, clean and thick broth --- perfect for a cold rainy day; however they don't have the soy sauce/green onion/peppers mix that usually comes with kalguksu)---- and that would only be for take-out. Too bad ma dang guksu is so far!

Hidden Korean restaurant, tucked away in a plaza where you'd never expect it. Known for their soup noodles, I have had many a good and simple meal eating at Da Maat. Don't come here looking for your stereotypical Korean dishes, there's more to Korean food and Da Maat is out to show you what's up.

I love this place! A good place to get an array of authentic Korean food! Foods I have tried: 1) Bossam 5/5 stars- slices of steamed pork, pickled veggies, and lettuce. Almost like lettuce wrap or summer rolls. You have the lettuce or sliced pickled daikon to wrap it with. The pork may not be seasoned or marinated but it has a really good flavor to it! 2) Yookgejang Kalguksu 5/5 stars- spicy beef soup with hand cut noodles. The broth is robust in flavor, the noodles were great--soft with a little chewiness to it! 3) Bibimbap 3/5 stars- The red sauce that is used for the mixture did not have much flavor to it so our bibimbap was somewhat bland compared to the usual bibimbap from other places. 4) Beef Soondubu 3/5 stars- Nothing so great. I've had better from other tofu places. 5) Chicken Kalguksu 4/5 stars- chicken soup with handcut noodles. It's also good but it is a lighter broth with mild flavors. I prefer the spicy beef noodle soup over the chicken. 6) Pajeon 3/5 stars- Seafood pancake. It's okay, just average. The best one I've had is in NY. This one was doughy and lacking in flavor. 7) Beef Mandu 4/5 stars- Boiled dumplings. It was good but I am not a huge fan of boiled dumplings. It's not greasy and you would not definitely need to dip this in a sauce.

We had their yook hwe Jang noodles.. And it had a ton of msg in it.. Enough where it have my brother an msg headache and the rest of us sleepy. I would skip this and find one of the other amazing Korean food locations in Torrance.

Some background: Korean army brat, lived in Korea for a couple of years during my childhood. Fond remembrance of my mother's food and my grandmother's food being hailed as phenomenal by everyone I knew. The only exception was the halmoni selling mandu at the rail station, whose dumplings were so good that all other dumplings paled in comparison even after 25 years. It was about a week ago when I got a sudden craving for naengmyun, and ate here with my wife and son. I was overwhelmed! I felt like I was eating my family's cooking! We had naengmyun, kalguksu, ddukguk, bulgogi, and mul mandu. There wasn't a single thing on the table that I wasn't fond of. The naengmyun was flavorful without being overly brine-tasting. The kalguksu was tender and savory. Even the mandu came so close to the train dumplings I remember from my childhood! Closer than ever before! I will definitely be bringing people here every chance I get.

I don't understand the reviews for this place....at all. The food deserves 2 stars at best and the service deserves 0. I recently moved to Torrance from SG Valley, the land of great Asian food so perhaps I am biased or spoiled. The food is nothing to write home about, it is what the typical Tofu/Korean restaurants serve. Nothing spectacular, the side dishes were mostly bland and just blah..... The service is where this restaurant is lacking....perhaps, its because I am not Korean, but it was like....we were begging for any type of service or smile..... Service with a smile....(not here). We asked for a refill of one side dish and she completely ignored us....and then proceeded to play the game of "lets not make eye contact' If I don't look at you then you don't exist. We then received no more service after that. I walk up to the counter to get the check and they paid there. We were then clearly ignored until we left the restaurant......No thank you, no see you later....

Food was pretty good, wasn't refilled in water by a very hot day, didn't like to be handed the check before I'm finished eating.

I'll provide the short version here. Clams tasted dirty gritty sandy. Seafood pancake had a piece of pot scrubber in it. Service wise i was made to feel like a pest. Other reviewers seem to enjoy it. For me, I don't like dirt and pot scrubbers on my food.

After reading the positive reviews on Yelp, we decided to give Da Maat a try. Went there for dinner today. Ordered Seafood Tofu, Pork Belly and Galbi. Portions were generous. However, flavors were underwhelming. Wide selection of Ba Chan but again, flavors were bland. Servers were polite but not observant. We had to ask them to refill our tea 3-4 times. Will not go back again.

Not bad for the 1st time here. Food was good. Very nice and quiet place to eat lunch and catch up with old class mates. The service was great and didn't have to wait on anything.

Take my "as good as it gets" review with a grain of salt. This is only the fourth Korean place I have reviewed, but I can honestly say it's my favorite to date. This is the second non AYCE BBQ Korean restaurant I have been to and I'm finding that those tend to be the best. My gateway into Korean food was bibimbap and that is what I had the first time I came here. Hot bowl octopus to be exact and it was delicious. I noticed from other yelp reviews and the other tables around me that noodles were popular here. Not just any noodle, people were talking about kalguksu (hand cut wheat noodle). On the menu it's called "Yookgejang Kalguksu" and it's completely off the hook. I think the first word is spelled yukgaejang if you try to look it up as I did. It's a spicy beef soup so full of flavor and just the right amount of spice. They are also very generous with the banchan here. Seven dishes and they will offer more if you finish any of them. I will definitely be back to try the other kalguksu dishes. The servers are all very friendly and the food is unbelievable. They have a fan in me.

I'm Korean. Like grew up eating kimchi, soup, and rice (sometimes all in the same bowl) daily for decades korean. This place feels almost like going home to mom's. They have all the great soups and stews that I used to wake up to and sorely miss. The YookGaeJang Kalguksu is a life saver on a hung over Sunday morning. My friends always know what I'm looking for when they get that saturday or sunday morning text with just the word "Noodle?" This place is owned by the same folks as ChoDang SoonDubu down the street and also offer it here. This can serve as the hidden 2nd location if you have the tofu craving as I often get (ChoDang can get extremely packed at dinner). You know you hate waiting too :P Writing this review actually makes me want some. One of my favorite korean spots in South Bay. MashitgaedusaeYo! (ENJOY!)

After reading all the hhhamazing reviews, I decided to go and try, FINALLY!! for the yookgaejang kalgook soo (spicy hand-cut noodles) and soon tofu- and I have to say, although they were both good as far as taste and prices went- sad to say I was NOT blown away. I mean I don't know why I was expecting for kal gook soo and soon tofu to knock my socks off! what was I thinking?? (I am korean so I grew up eating this all my life so I may be a harsher critic than non-koreans out there- fyi) Perhaps my high expectations got the best of me, hence why the kal gook soo was a tad disappointing- for a person who's a noodle lover, it was quite starchy. I actually enjoyed the soon tofu, so ended up finishing the entire bowl! I would definitely be back for the steamed dumpling as well as for another round of soon tofu! oh yeah, the side dishes were quite delish as well as the servers being very pleasant- Overall, I would say that I had a pleasant experience and would definitely be back for more~

This place is cute. The decor of bowls on shelves is unusual but fun! I heart the BOSSAM plate. Hint: the small saucer of shrimp sauce paste is overpowering so don't load up your little Bossam wrap with it. The purple rice (they call it brown) is also a good complement to the savory meat and sour radish. The rice is good for you too! The sides are small, but they will refill any dish you want more of. I like their kimchee and the acorn(?) jelly. Also, the price is fair and the service is friendly, too. I was with my Korean friend, but it isn't one of those place you'd feel weird walking into if you were not Korean. The servers were all nice and made jokes with us when I didn't want anything too spicy. The leftovers stunk up my car, so next time I will just eat it all!

  • Jean J.

Yup, 5 stars. This place is incredible!!! I ordered their Yukgejang Kalgooksoo twice within a matter of days and it was amazing both times. They only give you a few banchans (~5?) but they are very yummy. The staff is attentive and seemed to refill our water/banchan even before we ask. Take a look at the wall when you stop by -- they have a display wall full of small rice bowls? that are so cute!

Authentic Korean food. Kimchee is one of the signs that shows how good the food is there and their kimchee is super good. Almost good as my mom's. Very clean and very good food. I'll be back for more. Price is fair and service is great! Must try if you're into authentic Korean food.

I came here with a group of people after already having my first round of dinner. So i was already full...but for some reason i still ordered kalgooksu. AND I REGRET NOTHING. Even though i was super full, it was bombdiggity-licious! I remember wanting MORE after i finished. I was pretty surprised myself. Good food. Good company. Good times.

I came here because I was curious to try the kalguksu (knife-cut noodles), and they did not disappoint. * Dumpling tofu soup: Flavorful broth and silky tofu. I didn't particularly like the dumplings, partly because they tasted a bit overcooked after sitting in the stone pot and partly because I did not like the particular filling used. However, the tofu soup itself definitely deserves an A+. The servers crack the raw egg for you at the table too. * Spicy beef kalguksu (knife-cut noodles): The broth was very tasty. The knife-cut noodles were good, although I am still partial to the thicker Chinese knife-cut noodles. * Banchan: Also very yummy, especially the potatoes and tofu. I don't remember specific prices, but the entire meal added up to $22 including tax. Service was very attentive. I was given hot tea, while my friend was given ice water. He wanted hot tea too. We then realized the server must have heard me say I was cold as we walked in. (Note that my friend is Korean, and I'm not, so he should have been given the preferential Korean treatment ;) ) I don't expect much of the decor at Asian restaurants, but Da Maat was spacious and nicely decorated with wooden walls and scenes from the Korean countryside.

Been looking for more authentic Korean restaurants in the area in terms of food quality and authenticity, but without the typical poor service. The good: Clean restaurant off of Sepulveda Blvd. Nice varied selection of Banchan side dishes. Refilled my Banchan dishes without being asked. Good quality and authentic Korean food (I had the Dolsot Bi Bim Bap). Waitress had no problem speaking English to me. Easy parking. Nice wall decor of various dishes. Bathroom was clean. The bad: If you don't know where they are, finding the place is a little difficult even with GPS (used Google Maps). Prices were a little more expensive than other Korean restaurants in the Torrance/Gardena/South Bay area. They have a high minimum for credit card purchases ($20 minimum, higher than any other place I've ever been to for any merchant), so I ended up using cash. I would have given them a higher score if they had not had their high minimum credit card purchase policy. Unless they change their credit card policy, I probably won't go back there especially since there are other Korean restaurants, a Korean grocery store, Japanese and Chinese restaurants, and other Asian businesses in the area with less stringent credit card purchase policies.

How do they keep the noodles and broth hot long after you've been served? It's delicious and hot until your last bite. The noodles are my go to, but the mandoo are yummy too. And when they say brown rice, they really mean the purple rice. Mmmmm. Friendly, good service.

Went for lunch and went with the spicy beef with homemade noodles. service was quick...6 panchans preceded my soup all done very well..standout being the kim chee cucumbers. Spicy beef soup noodles served in a large bowl...2 people could easily share. Soup was thicker than most Korean spicy beef soups I've had in the past. It gave the soup an extra heartiness to it. Noodles were wide style and cooked nicely...good texture and not mushy at all. I really appreciated the servers checking in on me...asking me if I liked the food and if they could bring me anything else. good for larger groups (6-10)...def. call ahead...

Went back to Da Maat after a long time cause I totally forgot about this place :P Da Maat still has the same tasty tofu soup as Cho Dang (same owners) so we were quite happy. However, we also ordered a few other items and I was pretty disappointed. Ordered the yukgaejang, which is Korean spicy beef soup, with the handcut noodles. Now... the handcut noodles were amazing. At the first bite, you can tell that the noodles are different from your average noodles. Great bite and great texture. The soup itself was good, but not spicy enough. Maybe I can ask them to make it spicier. I also didn't get much of the beef flavor that I've tasted at other Korean restaurants. The amount of beef was also laughable. At Da Maat, it is also in strips, but I literally counted 8 thin strands of beef. Even though the noodle was tasty... everything else was meh. Also, the price was extremely high. It was close to $13 once I added the handcut noodles, and around $10 if it is just the soup itself. Pretty steep. Also ordered the seafood pancake once again... not as much ingredients and too much batter. Service is pretty good and they refilled our banchan pretty quick! I really wanted to like everything about this restaurant since I love the tofu soup but looks like I'll only come back if Cho Dang is packed in the future.

I've been here a lot since my first review. Da Maat has definitely grown on me: I'm giving it 5 stars now. I've enjoyed everything I've tried, which has included their noodle/dumpling soups, tofu soups, bossam, and even some of their fish stews. Their banchan has great variety -- I'm a huge fan of their stewed potato banchan. Service is good and the ambiance/decor is a cut above the rest. I hope this restaurant continues to thrive.

It's Torrance, so you have a large selection to choose from for Korean food, but you're not going to go wrong here. It's a small place in a strip mall, right next to the Kings Hawaiian. A giant wall of bowls as the decor, and it seems that all the guests here know both each other, and the staff. Turns out to be a good thing as this means there is a huge repeat business. Had the standard bibimap in the hot bowl, and it's good, you really can't mess this dish up if you try. The tofu soup with shrimp is very good, also served in the stone bowl, and it's still boiling after a few minutes. No, really, the soup is still boiling because the bowl is hot.Makes a tasty soup. It's cheap too, so all in all a good bargain and tasty.

I would unfortunately have to say that this place is overrated. Never having tried Korean food, I was really excited to try this place based on the glowing reviews. Unfortunately it was a disappointment. The place was clean and service was prompt, but nothing spectacular. They brought the food and went on their way. Not much in the way of smiles, or "how are you doing" or assistance in understanding their menu or making recommendations. I tried the spicy beef hand cut noodle soup based on its great reviews, but I would have to agree with the other reviewer about their lack of generosity when it came to the meat. I was like, where is the beef? Is this really a beef soup? Also, it was LOADED with salt... Not a great choice if you are hypertensive or borderline hypertensive or trying not to become one. Surprisingly with all the salt it was loaded with, it wasn't really flavorful. May try them again to try something different on their menu.

I love me some Korean food and this place wins for having just some darn good, filling inexpensive eats. I usually go for the bi bim bap, mushroom tofu or beef tofu and I have yet to be disappointed. The place is on the smaller side (although I've never had a problem getting a table. it's never quite super busy but every time i go there - no matter what time there always seems to be a nice stream of patrons coming in and out), service is pretty standard, side dishes are standard (but I'm glad they have no problem refilling since I've heard some restaurants cap the refills to one time which is just plain silliness). This is definitely my go to place for my Korean cravings in Torrance.

Had the soft tofu soup; it was served pipin' hot in a stone bowl and was an excellent blend of spices and sour flavors. Definitely recommend this dish. Other dishes our friends had didn't quite hit it off, but our soup was great.

Great place to get delicious dumplings and noodle soup. Da Maat is usually pretty popular, so be prepared for possibly waiting for a spot to sit. Biggest downside is the MSG. Every time I eat here I get a huge headache and want to drink 500 gallons of water.

We've been coming here for 7 years and LOVE THIS PLACE. This is Korean food at its finest. Best outside of Seoul. Okay, so I'm exaggerating. I'm a big fan of the Kimchi Dumplings (Mandu) and the Bi Bim Bap here is really good. If I could speak Korean, I would probably live there.... the soups are like warm swimming pools. But seriously...its a great place.

We were driving around Torrance and decided to grab some Korea food. We Yelped and found this place that was nearby. The food is pretty good. I mean like something mom would cook for you. The place wasn't too crowded, but there were constant traffic. The display of the bowls on one of the walls was interesting. Anyway, we ate the bulgogi, chicken kalgooksoo (hand cut noodles), and the soon tofu. Like I said it was pretty good better than average, I would definitely keep this place in mind when I'm craving Korean food in Torrance (especially since I'll be move about 5 min from here=)

Tasty soon dofu. The ladies here are always nice and sweet. The food is always good and consistent. Banchans are yummy and they change from time to time which is cool. Plus they serve purple rice if you don't want the regular white rice.

Thank you Linda N for introducing me to Da MAAT! A group of us came here one weekend for some soondubu. Well.. I came here for some soondubu. I'm not sure what everyone else was coming for. The weather was perfect for it! Gloomy. Rainy. Cold. We got here and were seated right away. Service was quick and friendly. The food was good. I really liked what I got. But I also liked what Linda. I don't remember what it was... but it was a spicy beef noodle soup. (Hot). What's good about the noodles here is that they make it in the store! Their ban chan was good. I ate most of it. :) I would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for good tofu soup in Torrance.

Came here for an early lunch today and it really hit the spot! We wanted something to eat around 10am, and weren't that into the breakfast choices in the area. So lunch it was. But most places weren't even open yet for lunch! What's a hungry girl to do? Luckily, I saw on yelp that Da Maat opens at 10am, and it was on my bookmarked list, so yay for checking off another place on my list! I knew coming in that I was going to get the kalguksu, but which one I wasn't sure. We saw that the lunch special today was the anchovy one, and my bf wanted that, so I picked the next most popular thing from the reviews - their chicken! For $10, I got a super large bowl of their yummy yummy knife cut noodles, which seriously, was good stuff. They really know how to make their noodles here! The broth was wholesome and fulfilling, a pure, strong chicken flavor without any other flavors muddling it up -- I like it! There were also strips of chicken breast in it which I dipped in their soy sauce concoction they also provided. Not bad. I really liked my bf's anchovy kalguksu though! The anchovy flavor in the broth was so good - saltier than my chicken, and I'm a big fan of salt so it was more appealing to me. But other than the broths, the noodles and everything else in the dishes were about the same. Both were really solid and fulfilling. We also got some banchan with our order of course, and though the portions were tiny, they were very good and fresh, which is most important. The server was super nice and sweet, and the restaurant was clean and inviting. I loved the numerous bowls they had on display as a decorative art piece, covering an entire wall of the restaurant! We tried to see if there were any duplicates, but it seems that there is really only one of each bowl! And they're all so pretty! This is definitely going to be on my return list when I'm around South Bay again, and especially during the winter! I can see this being the perfect winter meal =D

We came here and had the clam noodle soup, seafood pancake, kalbi, and chapchae. The noodles were the best in that they were springy, the broth was very clam-y, and overall a bowl of deliciousness! The rest of the items were also good and standard fare. A very solid place to get a good meal. Will certainly go again and so it's about a 3.5 star rounding up to 4.

Best Kal Gook Soo noodles in the South Bay. Korean restaurant hidden in a little strip mall that specializes in a soup called Kal-Gook(Guk)-Soo (Korean soup with handmade noodles). Kal-Guk-Soo has a chicken soup base with noodles, and topped with chicken, Korean squash, onions, and potatoes It's not supposed to have much meat so don't expect it. This is what Kal Guk Soo is supposed to taste like so if you want the real thing this is the place to go! Service: typical for a korean restaurant. They take your order, you eat, you pay. That's it. Don't' expect more and you won't be disappointed.

This place is definitely one of my new favorite Korean restaurants. The Banchan spread was great and they're very generous with refills. We ordered the mul mandoo (boiled dumplings), Galbi, Bibimbap, and my personal favorite, the mul neng myun (cold noodles). Everything was delicious and absolutely no complaints about anything. We were in a crazy rush when we went, but the waitress remained very friendly and accommodating, which is always an added bonus.

One of the better Korean places in South Bay. I went here with a large group and the service was just OK. Large groups are difficult, so I can't knock them here. The food was good to very good, but short of excellent. They used better ingredients than a lot of other Korean places. I would definitely come here again, though.

it was my first time eating here and we told the waitress that it was our first time and my family and i arent into spicy food, so she helped us choose the mild ones. she was so nice and friendly and very accomodating. so first off, we ordered Bulgogi, the beef was so nice and tender, we savoured every bite, then we also ordered Haemul Kalguksu it has half crab with complete shrimp and mussels and the noodles that comes along with it are pretty good. then we also ordered dolsot bibimbap, i havent tried this so i cant really compare this to others but it was ok too. we didnt know that they serve their rice pretty small so we ordered 3 more cups of rice. i had no idea that their plates are so small! hahah well there's first time for everything! overall, it was a great experience, i will start coming here when im in the area.

I Ordered spicy beef hand cut noodle soup, it was delicious a bit salty but that may be cuz I really don't eat to much sodium/salt in general, the noodles were perfectly cooked not saggy or hard, the beef was really tender omg so good. My husband ordered spicy seafood with soft tofu soup, hands down way better that the most famous tofu house in la.

I can't decide between the 3 or the 4 star. I've driven by this place countless times and finally decided to dine here after giving up on the wait at Cho Dang. We ordered the spicy pork, spicy beef broth noodles (hand cut noodles), and meat dumplings. I wasn't too wowed by the spicy beef noodles as they tasted almost like ramen that I make at home. However, my taste buds may just have been overloaded by the spiciness of both the noodles and the pork dish to discern any real taste. Despite that, I could still taste the dishes and found that I did like the pork. It was cooked just right and not dried out at all. The dumplings, stuffed with meat and veggies, had good flavor to them and tasted home made and not frozen (and they shouldn't!). The boy insisted that he liked the Ajinomoto dumplings from Sam's Club better (!!). Service was excellent - the servers kept coming by to check on us and even offered us an extra bowl of rice to eat the spicy pork with. There were about 6 different types of banchan, some of which were spicy eggplant, seaweed, and broccoli.

Wow I waited for 40 mins to get my food. How ridiculous? It's sad how Korean women have all shit faces when customers try to order something. How rude. They need to behave more like waitresses. Food tastes good, but customer service was shitty. I regret that I paid tips for them shit. What a stupid decision I've made in life... Sigh I was too kind. If they behave with their shit faces when I try to order more slide dishes and let me wait for fucking 49 mins... Nvm I won't go there. Fuck you those waitresses. Sigh, I liked the food tho:( but I think customer service should come first. Hey, owner. If you read this, please, replace the waitresses and consider the time being wasted for the customers. PLEASE! Also, your waitresses have shit faces every time, so please make them have some Smily faces and don't let them throw side dishes at the customers.

I have always loved eating at Da Maat and they never fail me :) The only downside is they ran out of my favorite dish twice! I initially came here for the KAL GOOKSOO (knife cut noodles) and tried almost all of them. The anchovy, slightly spicy broth and thick, chewy noodles go well together. Over the years, I discovered their BOODAE JJIGAE ("army stew") that consists of ham, ramen, spam, rice cake ovals mmMMmm the broth is soooo good to me :) It's something you can make at home, but I always want it when I come here! Their NAKJI BOKEUMBAP (small octopus mixed rice) is veryyy flavorful with their sesame leaf mixture--the leaves are fragrant and make the rice really good. It comes out in a hot stone bowl so that your rice becomes nooroongji (hardened rice) yum!! ...and last, but not least, my bf introduced me to their BOSSAM! It's pork slices with different kimchee, moo (radish), pickled jalapenos, etc. to wrap up and eat. Party in my mouth! I like getting their purple rice (jakgokbap) because it's tasty while good for your health too. The last two times I went, they ran out of the bossam!! :( I get so sad when that happens but I'm glad they're having good business! Please don't everrrr change your recipes!! The service is also always great and friendly so you won't be disappointed. The decor is interesting--they try to bring back the old country side of Korea. They have an interesting wall full of different bowls all lined up along the wall on shelves. I don't think there's ever a double of a bowl design. Don't worry, I think they're glued down in case of an earthquake :)

Wow, one of the best korean places in the South Bay!! They have homemade hand-cut noodles, which is one of the best korean soup dishes you could ever consume. It's delicious here, with a tasty broth and some chicken. They also have the korean hot pot with a whole mess of random stuff thrown in. Sounds weird, but that is also equally delicious- it's huge, plus it's a decent price, compared to other korean places in the area. Their side dishes are also good, but the biggest plus is the service. The ladies here are 100% korean, and 100% FRIENDLY!!! If you've been to your share of korean restaurants like I have, then you know that this is hard to find. The service is so nice and attentive, I bet they've never scowled at a customer. I also love the decor of the restaurant. They have a lovely wall display of rice bowls and really made the place look upscale and warm at the same time. Now I find myself craving a big bowl of those noodles all the time.

Da Maat is a solid Korean noodle place for the South Bay. It offers a good number of banchan for the area (~7), and tasty chicken kalguksoo - the noodles were nice and chewy, and the broth was rich and flavorful, if on the salty side. Prices were reasonable (with kalguksoo at ~ $10). Nice service - they let my friend send back her japchae because it had beef in it, which she didn't realize when she was ordering it. I've returned many times with family, and it's definitely in our regular rotation.

The ambience is great here. It's not exactly a hole in the wall, but definitely looks like a local hangout. The side dishes are some of the best i have had- very clean and fresh. We ordered the soon do boo and bi bim bap. Both came out fresh and on time. The good thing about this location is the tour jours bakery is right around the corner for dessert and coffee!

I like Da Maat. Not only is it one of my favorite places to go in the South Bay area for some non-bbq style Korean food, my boyfriend actually loves this place over other restaurants in Ktown! The place is clean, ladies are nice, the side dishes are good, and parking is plenty! Also, service is relatively fast, so you don't have to wait long if you are hungry! Their menu is not crazy extensive like some other Korean restaurants. However, they are good at what they offer! I did notice that non-Koreans always getting the tofu pot, which has clean taste. I actually prefer this over the BCD in Torrance (although my favorite is still Chodang) They also have great home-made dumpling soups & kal-gook-soo soups. I also love their kitchen-cooked meats you can eat with lots of veggies called "ssam". You can also order their "bossam" which is pork with spicy veggies which is yummy & more affordable than other places due to their smaller portion you can order with other dishes! Other than that, they have great boo-dae-jji-gae which comes with ramen noodles, sausages, spam and all the goodies which is a favorite of mine when I go here! I also like their bibimbap and naengmyun & honestly think you can't really go wrong with any dish you order!

This place is much better than I remembered. It is a legitimately good Korean restaurant in Torrance, and perhaps one of the few I would say could hold its own in Koreatown. It's a restaurant that has a variety of traditional Korean dishes, including soon tofu, spicy fish stew(maewoon tang), kal-gooksu(knife cut noodles), and kalbi(although this is grilled in the kitchen for you, since it's not a bbq place). The place has a Korean rustic charm, and is clean and nice looking enough to take people for a special occasion. It's a good place to try different dishes for people who are unfamiliar with Korean food and want to explore beyond Korean bbq. A run-down of what we got: *Yook gaejang kal-gooksu--hand cut noodles in a spicy soup with beef and vegetables. It was fantastic, and might rival the best I've ever had. The soup was slightly spicy but not peppery, and the noodles were nice and chewy. I highly recommend this dish. * Chicken kal-gooksu--like above, very good, but not spicy at all. Kind of like a Korean chicken noodle soup. *kalbi--a good portion for $16. Comes with rice and a side of miso soup. About 2/3 of the portion was meaty and the marinade was tasty. The other 1/3 was on the fatty side. *Daeji-bo-ssam-- pork belly, kimchee and cabbage wrap. The portion is not as large as other places give you, and the kimchee was not as tasty. *Maewoon tang--spicy fish soup which was tasty, but had only two chunks of fish, so was not a good portion. *dolsot bibimpap--rice with meat and mixed veggies in a sizzling stone bowl. My mom liked this dish. Hard to go wrong with this. *banchan--pretty good. The kimchee, veggies, and fish cake were all fresh and tasty. Took my mom here for lunch, since we didn't want to go all the way to Koreatown. She is really hard to please and she liked this place, so we'll be back. Even better, my wife who is also really hard to please liked it too...wait, are they alike?

I live near Koreatown and work in Torrance, so when my co-workers decide they want Korean for lunch, I'm generally less enthusiastic than when we all go for soba or ramen. Da Maat is, so far, my only exception. The place is small and kind of cute, with some interesting wall decorations, including a display of Korean clay bowls that my mother would adore. The clientele seems predominantly Korean, with some Japanese people mixed in. The service is fine, not great, but fast enough and passable. The main draw, as at any good Korean restaurant, is the food. Da Maat's menu is fairly wide-ranging, but you'd do best to focus on the kalguksu, or knife cut noodles. There is exactly one place I know of that might do this better, and that's my perennial favorite Olympic Noodle in Koreatown. I'm not sure which would win a side by side test. Da Maat does a stellar myulchi, or anchovy, kalguksu, which is my preferred bowl. The soup is mellow and soothing, and perfect with a little bit of yangnyum, a soy and scallion sauce that comes with the bowl. The thick doughy noodles yield a lot of pleasurable chew, and zucchini and onions add a little heft to the broth. On Tuesdays, the myulchi kalguksu costs a reasonable $7.99. I also love the yukkejang kalguksu, a treat I had never had before Da Maat. This is exactly what it sounds like, a hybrid of kalguksu and yukkejang, the thick noodles inserted into a spicy Korean beef broth. It is delicious. The yukkejang is hot and satisfying, with tender shreds of beef, and the kalguksu soaks up the broth. It's an ultimate bowl of Korean comfort. Of course, no Korean meal is complete without banchan, and a bowl of kalguksu always wants a side of kimchi. Da Maat's spread is respectable, with seaweed, acorn jelly, potato salad, bean sprouts, and a couple kinds of the spicy stuff. I like both the standard baechu and the kkakdugi, and while I know the standard kalguksu kimchi is as new and pungent as possible, I like that Da Maat puts out kimchi that's well fermented and doesn't punch me in the nose with each bite. In addition to the banchan, I'd also suggest a side of mul mandoo, or steamed dumplings. They come at least fifteen to an order and they're easy to share. The dumplings are filled with juicy pork, and they're deliciously soft without being waterlogged. A dip in vinegar and soy sauce makes them worth drooling over. I understand that Da Maat does soondubu and other Korean dishes, but I'll be shocked if it does anything half as well as it does kalguksu. Those noodles are specialty shop material, and I will continue to go every chance I get.

While browsing the net today, my co-workers and I both noticed something unusual about Da Maat.'s review on yelp. How could it be that there is not even a single picture of the mouth-watering "Bossam" that people here have raving about??!!! I simply can not believe it! Ok. Someone must do justice for this dish! I will do the honor then. **Pics. of the "Bossam" has been posted.** Below is my quick review of the restaurant: It's a cozy little place that you feel like you are in someone's kitchen because of all the bowls that lined its walls. It's pretty neat actually. My co-workers and I dined at Da Maat last friday and had one of the most amazing meals. This is what we ordered: 1. Bossam (which is basically steamed pork wrapped with napa cabbage among other things) 2. Beef Kal Gooksoo (knife cut noodles in spicy broth with Beef) 3. Clam Kal Gooksoo (knife cut noodles in a sweet broth) My co-workers and I loved all three dishes. But I especially love the bossam. Really. It's that good. It's about 15 bucks but they also give you a bowl of their "purple rice", which I believe is sticky rice of some sort. I am not a rice person but this rice was amazing. Very yum. Although our meal was great, I do have something to say about their banchan (side dishes) though. They serve you the usual kimchi, broccoli, seasoned bean sports, and sugar glazed potatoes but I feel like it wasn't out of the ordinary. Thus, I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5. Overall, food was great and service was great, definitely a place we'll be going back again for lunch =)

I think the tofu soup is way better here than it is at Cho Dang. The potato salad side was also really good. I could have eaten four little bowls of that stuff. :) Although it was mid-day on a weekday, the entire restaurant was full of people, and they were all Korean, which was a plus for me. Bibimbap was good as well as the meats. If I worked closer, I would come here all the time.

Came here on recommendation of yelp since my supervisor wanted korean food. Easy parking and not that many people during lunch, which is absolutely fabulous because I just want to be in and out! Excellent service with refills, water, and getting our food out quickly. Ordered 2 lunch combos of calbi & spicy pork, which came with glass noodles, potato salad, lettuce salad, seaweed soup, and a single oyster. We also ordered the spicy seafood soondubu. Honestly, all soondubu's taste the same to me at korean restaurants unless it's watery and lacks base flavor. The calbi was a bit overcooked to my liking and the spicy pork seemed a bit dry. However, I attribute this to them cooking it for me versus cooking it myself. With the lunch combo prices (max of $12), and the assortment of appetizers (fish cake, kimchi, seaweed, bean sprouts, egg, spicy cucumber), you really can't go wrong eating here if you're in the area. It's not a place you'd drive out for though.

Da Maat is my go-to place when I'm craving Korean comfort food, the way my mom would have cooked it. I would recommend trying their rice cake soup with dumplings (duk mandoo guk), any one of their noodle soups, and any of their tofu soups (I believe they are affiliated with Cho Dang Tofu, also in Torrance). Comfortable and clean place, good service, no complaints.

Pretty good Korean food in the south bay. Ever since we moved down to the south bay, this has been our go-to Korean food stop. I usually get the dol sot bibimbap and split a stew with my husband. The Kalbi is yummy, but is a little pricey for the size of the dish.

My friends brought me here because this is one of their favorites. I, however, had never eaten here, although I've driven by a million times! I'll keep this short and sweet because it's pretty clear that this restaurant is loved by many people! I ordered the chicken soup and it's changed my notion of chicken soup forever. It's just effortless...like wearing a tailor-made dress or suit. The homemade noodles are like butter and the soup is flavorful. The garlic in the soup is not at all overpowering. Let me end by saying I am so glad that Dat Maat is in close proximity to me so I can head over whenever I want Korean cuisine in Torrance!

This is by far my favorite korean restaurant in the south bay. I already ate here for the 4th time and I still enjoy their food. The decor is clean and home-like. The waitresses there are very polite and courteous. My partner and I always order their Mandoo (korean dumpling) dishes. We try other dishes on the menu and they are all good. not too salty, not too bland. They always have different side dishes every time we go so we try something different every time. I highly recommend this place for different korean dishes other than korean tofu restaurants and korean bbq restaurants and try anything on their menu ^_^.

For lunch, kimchee and beef tofu soup hit the spot on this Wednesday afternoon. The ban chan was decent with 5 different varieties. It is probably more like a 3 1/2 star place still because the ban chan (appetizers were just okay) I think the ban chan really accentuates the dish I thought the name of the restaurant name was interesting in itself. You may be detracted by the exterior look of the building but then when you venture inside, it has a traditional Korean decor feel to it. I was attracted by the display of the various bowls on the walls. There must be more than 100 different various of bowls each with its own unique character. BTW, in case you are wondering about those bowls on the wall...they are firmly anchored to the display case.

Been here about 10 times. Always thought somewhat highly of the place - 4/5 stars but tonight it was terrible. It was Mother's Day and we got in at 8:20 - they close at 9. The sever was obviously upset we were there and was not polite to us. There were only 3 of us eating but she brought a big bucket of water and a bucket of hot tea and just left it on the table blocking space for other dishes. Right when we sat down she asked us if we were ready to order. Every side dish was gross and tasted like it had been out all day. The rice was dry. She didn't ask us once how we were doing. Never going back there again.

I've been coming here maybe twice a year for three or four years and have always considered it to be one of the best Korean restaurants in the South Bay and close in quality to those I've been to in Koreatown. My most recent visit was May 3, 2012. My impression is that there's been a change in ownership. I can't be sure about that, but it's clear that the food isn't as good as it used to be and I think most or all of the staff are different folks. I'm sorry to report that, while I would formerly have given this place 5 stars, I now give it 2. Everything we ordered was OK. Nothing we had made us feel we that we would return, especially with so many other good choices in Korean restaurants in the area. Spicy beef noodle soup--The noodles are still hand-cut and good, but where's the beef? We thought that the kitchen had made a mistake and given us a vegetarian noodle soup. We let our server know and after a few minutes she brought us some (more?) slivered beef for the soup. But as we tried our other dishes we realized that there probably had been no mistake: they just now make it a practice to economize to the detriment of their dishes. (Also, the spicy soup wasn't spicy.) Giant kimchee-pork dumplings--They're still giant but the ground pork seems to be mixed with a lot of filler. Beef bulgogi--My first bite suggested to me that the meat wasn't totally fresh. Not bad, mind you, just perhaps a day or two past its prime. I ignored this (hungry, wanting to enjoy dinner, not wanting to dwell on the negative). Again, there just wasn't that much of this, for after the first layer of sliced beef we got mainly what seemed like pan scrapings. The other dishes we ordered were similarly mediocre. It wasn't a terrible meal, the servers were polite, and the service was fast. It's a clean, pleasant ambience. Based on the quality of the food, however, I won't be going back.

Side dishes are good. But the Mandu(dumplings) sucked big time, first it was over cooked, so the skin becomes soggy, which is a sign of 1. lack of experience. 2. lack of attention. The bibimbab is ok but nothing wowed me here... not coming back again. 4 mandus in soup with a little bit of pork/beef for $11.99 is seriously overpriced...

Went here recently for lunch with some coworkers. We didn't know where to go so we enlisted our trust Yelp app... how fitting?!?! I had the Spicy Beef noodle, which was the main thing to get apparently per the reviews. The noodles were unique and had the perfect chewiness. The soup though, was not spicy whatsoever. I also tried my coworkers dumpling sound and dyeammm... so much better! Huge, flavorful and unlike any other dumpling soup I'd have. If I came here again, I'd def get that. I will definitely return to try dumpling soup and the lunch special Bibimbap.

My quest for soft foods after my root canal brings me back to this local favorite for tofu soup. I've never had a bad experience here - the servers are friendly and attentive (by Asian eatery standards) even during the most busy times. Food-wise, this place can't be beat, from the piping hot and delicate tofu soup I order every time to my husband's favorite chicken noodle soup, which features chewy (hand-cut?) noodles and succulent slices of chicken swimming in a thick, flavorful broth. The side dishes are always fresh, delicious, and begging to be refilled. The giant kimchi dumplings live up to its namesake--two or three of these huge pungent dumpling would make for a decent-sized lunch, and they come six to an order. Prices are reasonable even by tofu soup joint standards.

My friend took me here for dinner a few weeks ago. It's a clean Korean restaurant (!)...and all the bowl display on the wall was actually cool. We ordered the usual - Korean pan cakes, kalbi BBQ, and bibimba at the end. They were all good, but nothing stood out. Their side dishes were all with green onion...I like green onion, but it was a bit too much for me, and I wanted to have normal Korean side dishes like veggie kim-chee and so on...

Solid seafood soon du bu jigae and ordered the yukaejang kalguksu. The kalgukso obviously was a lot more starchy than if you order from k town galleria but the soon du bu here is way better. The best thing though is the cafe bakery next door to finish off your meal!

    I. Owe. Them. A. Good. Solid. 5 star. Review. My previous review does not do them justice. Especially, after all those times they have scratched my itch for Korean food... and nowadays it rescues me from preggers nausea as well. You know.. I still get the same thing, the Galbitang, when I come here. Even after all those stupid complaints I have made about how they skimped on the meat. You know why? Because it has great flavor. And nowadays they have more meat. I swear. They really do. I don't know what ticked me off so much at the time I wrote that old review, but I do not have same complaints anymore. (I must've been PMSing that day or something. haha) Hubby doesn't always put Korean food on his top choices of foods he usually wants to get, (except AYCE KBBQ, of course!). But he never hesitates when I want to come here. He likes his dumpling soup. I would, however, not recommend bossam meal. I regretted that day I got this meal. I should just stick to my usual. Their banchan is consistently good. The ajumas are very friendly here. What I love about this place most of all, is that it isn't a grilling KBBQ place. And therefore, no meat smell seeping through your clothes when you leave. ;-)

Decent service, good food. Nothing exceptional. The beef bibimbap really didn't have much beef and the country style bulgogi was a bit too sweet. The side dishes were nothing spectacular. The standard kimchi, radish, seaweed and of all the things, bbq beans! The wait is pretty weird, there is no list, you just stand in line and get menus. When a table is about to open up, you are asked to order so as soon as you are seated, you can be served.

What can I say about Da Maat except that it's more like Da Bomb! This place is great and probably my new favorite korean tofu joint! + The service is fast and responsive. + There are plenty of tables. + Very clean + Food was fast and fresh and large portions I had the combo tofu which is my standard soup, and my girlfriend had the beef tofu. Both were great. t was bubbling hot and had great flavor. All the different side dishes were tasty, especially the kimchee and potato salad. My friends had the kimchi dumplings which looked like some ridiculous kimchi + meat + dumpling Frankenstein. It was HUGE! I'm not even sure how it held together given it's size (almost as big as my fist). I've never had them before so the taste was just alright ... definitely could tell there was kimchi in that sucker! I heard the hand cut noodles there are awesome and I plan to give that a try next time, along with the short ribs. Looking forward to going back soon!!!

Where do you go to get legit Korean food? My first thought has always been K-town! However, after eating at Da Maat I've decided to extend the location to Torrance as well. The spicy beef hand cut noodle soup are awesome! The texture of the noodles and the medley of ingredients in the broth are truly a match made in heaven. For those that can't quite handle spiciness as much, they can tone it down for you. Fabrurous! The dolsot bibimbap was also pretty good. fresh ingredients ftw! I have yet to try other dishes here because I find it hard to stray away from the one's I've already tasted! This place is (consistently) awesome! especially since my banchan seem to never stay empty for long - aka great service - highly recommended!

Soon tofu is good. usually get mushroom. seafood pancake is thick, filled with more clam based seafood. bimbibab is ok. they have giant dumplings...whoa! but they are ok in taste side dishes are few. Kalbi is good but pricey at $17 a plate handcut noodles are solid.

This is a charming little Korean place that I like to go to when I can't think of anything else to eat. There are a lot of different types of Korean food and it's fun to try them all. My Korean friends tell me that Korean BBQ is only a small percentage of Korean cuisine, and this place demonstrates that fact, so don't go there expecting killer Korean BBQ. I love their soup and noodles when the weather is cold. It really hits the spot.

I like using my hands and I love shortcuts...so when I got the opportunity to taste Hand Cut Noodles from Da Maat, I said da maat why didn't you ask me sooner... All kidding aside, Da Maat is great. After the customary da maat jokes in the beginning of your meal, you'll be greated with a plethora of choices. Anything with hand-cut noodles are guaranteed to be delicious. Furthermore, this isn't your local BCD Tofuhouse...they actually make spicy food. If you love spicy, definitely try the kimchee dumpling soup...it's amazing. So amazing, that the sweat from its spiciness tastes delicious... or at least that's what they tell me...yeah Other things to try at Da Maat are the Seafood Soup with Hand Cut Noodles and the Chicken with Hand Cut Noodles. So if you're craving for some homemade noodle soup and you're just tired of the same BCD Tofuhouse spiel, head on over to Da Maat... It's about time you tasted quality Korean...Da Maat!

It was quite a wait, but it is worth it. This is one of those places that you only find out by word of mouth. That is all they need, because the place is always packed. I always love eating eating something very ethnic. No fusion, just straight up authentique Korean winter home style food. Just love Kimchi Jjigae. I will be going back

I'm surprised I didn't know about this place earlier since I've been living in the South Bay for a while. It's a deliciousnon-bbq Korean restaurant that serves bibimbap, soon tofu, Kal Gooksoo, among other dishes. Their small dishes are more plentiful than ChoDang Tofu on Hawthorne blvd. They serve the same tofu soup that is the same as ChoDang, except they have other dishes as well. My favorite dish here is the Clam Kal Gooksoo. It's a clam based soup with hand cut noodles. It's so yummy. It's only about 10 dollars to eat~ I want to come back and try the Bossam dish that everyone mentions too :)

I like the atmosphere of the place. Ordered chicken noodle soup with a friend since I was still a bit full from breakfast. Stepping into this place is like stepping into a restaurant in the Korean countryside- you've got your kimchi-fermenting pots next to the wall mural of a Korean farm. Definitely takes me back to the days I spent in Korea. My go-to here is the chicken kalguksu. It's a great comfort food, and I don't think I've been to a restaurant yet that doesn't do it well. The budae jjigae's not great, but then again I'm not a big fan of budae jjigae in general, so who am I to judge?

Awesome kalbi and banchan. Good seafood soon tofu, but average bibimbap (daily lunch special). Lots of things on menu not seen at other Korean places. ============= Second visit: not so great. What's the fuss over the dumplings? Blech.

I'd like to start this review by stating that I'm Chinese (chon guk saram for those who are so inclined) and my perspectives on Korean noodles, more specifically Kalguksu, might be on the highly limited side. My first and most consistent exposure to Chicken Kalguksu is from Hodori. Yes, I'm a product of Korean Clubbing after hours dining. However, I'm very grateful to have been introduced to Hodori's Kalguksu. And I'm a fan of the texture of the Kalguksu noodles from Hodori. A bit on the thicker chewier side but it has a high degree of comfort food quotient for me and I enjoy it immensely. A friend of mine and a Torrance resident, recently introduced to me Da Maat Korean Restaurant. I gotta say, I found a new Kalguksu spot. (Drools over the memory of the eating experience.) The noodles have a better consistency to them. It was a bit more chewy, but had a more optimal bite threshold to them than Hodori's version. The noodles are less thick as well. Better slurp-ability if you ask me. The lighter consistency allowed for a more efficient absorption of the broth. I didn't think the side topping were anything of note and the broth wasn't exceptional either but as a whole the Kalguksu eating experience was more memorable. Food: 4 Service: 3.5 Deco: 3.5

I like to bring friends who are enamored with KBBQ here to show them the raw, traditional side of Korean food. If you actually prefer the side dishes to the deluge of greasy meat, try Da Maat. Some of the dishes are not as accessible to Western tastes due to their unfamiliar composition, but there are treasures for even the most reserved and conservative member of your group. Two favorites I always order are: bossam and seafood pajeon. Bossam comes in a large bowl with pork strips, spicy paste, cabbage, jalapeno, and (I believe) pink radish. You wrap everything in the cabbage or radish and eat it whole. It looks intimidating but I'm addicted to the mesh of tastes and I can only think of "FRESH" when I wolf the delicious wrap down. You can order bossam in a 1 or 2 person serving, but I find that it easily serves twice as many people, especially when you family-style everything. One thing you may want to avoid is the small seafood sauce that comes with it-called "saeujeot"-the first time I was encouraged to try it, the saltiness ruined the rest of the meal and stayed in my mouth long after! Pajeon is a kind of pancake with seafood filling. My very particular younger brother loved this! Service was great, but probably because I usually go later when the crowd is not as big. Decor is wonderful, dark-good for dates and family alike. A little more pricey than you'd want for daily fare ($15 for each of the above dishes) but unlimited side dishes, unlimited complimentary hot tea and the elusive taste of bossam make Da Maat worth it.

I like their mon-doo-gook. Little beef mixed pockets of perfection in hot soupy broth with green onions and eggs. I love eating it with lots of black pepper and kimchee. I also like to order bi bim bahp if I have someone to share it with.

I'm so mad it took me so long to dine here. I'm so mad my Korean ex never took me to get hand-cut noodle soup. Well enough with the anger, I'm so glad I went to lunch here. I ordered the beef kalgooksu or noodle soup that came with hand-cut noodles. It comes to the table so hot, it's barely stopped boiling. From the time it was placed on the table to the time I finished all the goodies in the bowl, the bowl was still steamy! This leads to the catch 22, do you wait for it to cool down or do you keep eating and burn your mouth? I waited a minute but it was making the noodles overcooked so I blazed on and burned my mouth! It hurts but it was worth the spicy-ish broth and chewy noodles. I'll have to go back to try the daily lunch specials. There's only one lunch special per day for $8.99 but that's the price of most of the dishes anyways. I'm going to be a regular here, I know it. And service is really friendly.

ummmm...it was average. Got the spicy soup with pork belly slices, ham, and sausage, soup was made with kimchee and has instant noodles. Came with rice, I opted for brown (actually purple) rice. Filled me up but lacked the "holy kimchee" factor. Price was a bit on the expensive side, I didn't feel that it was worth the price. Average cost-performance.

i am gut hooked on their chicken kalguksu. The broth is just amazing...has been stewing in their pot of goodness....fresh sides accompany the large portion of soup. And just friendly and prompt service. Finally a clean, spacious, attentive K restaurant with plenty of free parking.... difficulty is deciding what dish to order!

This is one of two de-facto Korean places my extended family chooses to go for Korean food. I'm teetering between a 3-4 rating, and although I would like to give them a 4 rating for putting up with my crazy nephews and niece all the time, I'm sticking with a 3, because I only go there when others go and somehow this place never comes to mind when I eat alone. The walls are the first thing you notice entering Da Maat. The interior is decorated in a dark brown wood finish with a wall stacked with various rice or soup bowls along the right of the door. On the exact opposite wall are 3 large photos of a scenic Korean garden with photos of radish the size of a tire. It's an atmosphere that already gets your taste buds watery. Da Maat has a great mix of Korean food from BBQ to Tofu Soup to Noodles and their famous Jumbo Dumplings. The food is all enjoyable, but nothing really sticks out for me. Everything is just sort of okay. My thoughts are this way because the meat quality is nothing sensational and the soup broth as well does not taste like something made with hours of preparation. But the price reflects it as everything on the menu is quite affordable. Thats how I feel right now after today's shared dinner meal of dumplings, bulgogi, and kalbi.

It's difficult to find good, authentic Korean food in my part of South Bay (I live closer to Hollywood Riviera). Da Maat is now my go-to place for non-Korean BBQ. Everything I've tried is delicious. The wang mandu (large mandu with meat and kimchi) is pretty unique and not found in most Korean restaurants I've eaten at. I was told the kimchi part of the filling is more conducive with North Korean style cooking. Regardless, it's gooood! Dolsot bimbimpap, kalbitang, and yukgaejang kalguksu is awesome!!!

My boyfriend was craving some bo ssam (sliced pork that you can wrap w/ steamed cabbage leaves), and he remembered he always wanted to try them at Da Maat. We ordered the bo ssam and I ordered soon dubu. To my surprise, the joint was also a Cho-Dang soon dobu place? I dunno how that worked, but it works! The Cerritos Cho-Dang is my fav soon dobu restaurant, so I wanted to try this one out to see if it's similar. The side dishes didn't impress me all that much. The Cho Dang in Cerritos has definitely more memorable side dishes (like my fav in the whole wide world, the cucumber kimchi). But I know that this place isn't going to be exactly the same. And all that mattered was that the soon dubu was the same. To my surprise, it was the same..and it was just as delicious! The bo ssam was really really good, too! If we're ever in the area, we'll definitely be back. Oh and ps. it was really nice to see that there were ALOT of non-Koreans in the restaurant. Lucky for them, they are having a meal at one of the better Korean restaurants in the area...

Like the tender tofu in their soon tofu pot. It was hot, spicy and yummy! Who knew there is a cute place in Torrance like this! I do like their side dishes that are quite different compared to some other tofu houses. Just wish the portion of the side dishes can be more!:P Will definitely come back some time!

One of the best Korean restaurants that's not primarily a bbq restaurant. All the side dishes were perfectly seasoned and the 'yetnal' (old-fashioned) bulgogi and seafood kalgooksoo was off the chains! Service and ambiance is great too, it's not fancy but its not ghetto either, it's just right.

I went there for the first time today and loved it. The giant Kimchi Dumplings is unique and tastes great. Korean Seafood Pancake was good also. Had bibimba which was well done. Overall, the pricing was fair and service was good.

I first learned about Da Maat on Yelp and I'm glad I gave it a try! This is truly the best gem I've found on Yelp. The staff is extremely nice, always smiling, and always check up on customers. It also feels very clean here. I have tried a few dishes here, but my absolute favorite is the Chicken Kalgooksoo (pardon my misspelling). It's a chicken noodle soup dish which is not spicy at all. There is definitely a lot of garlic in there, though. It's extremely tasty. I'm pretty much a regular here at Da Maat, and I am glad to say that I haven't had a bad meal here! I highly recommend Da Maat!

I LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. Sometimes, I just crave a good home cooked Korean meal and this place has it! It has a wide variety of Korean dishes that taste wonderful. They even sell their homemade dumplings(man doo), frozen. The wait staff is pretty nice, although it's hard to get their attention sometimes. Their side dishes are great and they don't mind refilling it for you. YUMMMEEE!

I came here with a friend last weekend out of curiosity. The atmosphere was pretty good and we appreciate the decor. We both had the bibimbap and we were both satisfied! Portion was perfect and service was good. I'll be coming back to try more of their food.

OK, this is one of those places where you find something really good the first visit and end up ordering the same thing every time thereafter. This happens to me a lot because my menu options are limited by by not eating meat or gluten, but Da Maat has a few choices for me and I still keep ordering meatless bibimbap. I never had bibimbap with meat, so I may be way under-qualified to review it in the minds of some. For that matter I never had any Korean food before a few years ago, and by then I was already not eating meat. Soon tofu got me to try Korean but bibimbap is what keeps me going back. For those who do not know, bibimbap is rice served in a super hot stone bowl with at least 5 or 6 toppings arranged on top of the rice in neat little piles. There is often a fried or raw egg on top and a bottle of Korean hot sauce served on the side. The sauce is hot barely so you can squirt a lot in the bowl without worrying about it. The hot stone bowl makes the rice touching it crispy and stick together like a rice cracker. Also, it you're unsure about a raw egg you can guide it down to the bowl to get cooked. The stone bowl is so hot it is literally toasting the rice while you eat and when you pry it off the bowl later it is very tasty and slightly nutty in flavor. Some places serve a pot of boiling water you can pour in at the end to loosen this rice and make a sort of soup. I just pry it off the bowl and eat it with the veggies. Da Maat has especially good bibimbap. The toppings seem to change a bit with the seasons and availability of good ingredients, but typically includes slivers of carrot, bean sprouts, some kind of gourd or squash, spinach or similar leafy veg, some radish and things like that. It is very colorful when all stirred together with the red sauce in the black stone bowl. The other really cool thing about Korean restaurants is all the side dishes that come out first. These change with the seasons too but typically includes kimchee, cucumbers, seaweed salad, bean sprouts, and Korean potato salad. All are prepared in Korean fashion with Korean flavorings. A bowl of miso soup comes with the meal as well. Lastly, the dining room is very cool. Dark wood interior and a wall full of ceramic bowls. Very easy on the eyes and ears. Very clean too. Can't wait to go back.

This place is a Must GO Everyday and TRY OUT everything in the MENU kind of Restaurant! It's very tasty and I'd say that out of all the Korean restaurants iv been to in Torrance, this place makes the most authentic tasting Korean food. Not just the food but even the display of the restaurant is some what traditional. The only thing I have to say is the menus can be improved. Personally I would say they need more pictures for each dish and better descriptions for all of them.

My bf and I love this place! He usually get the dak kal gook su (chicken noodle soup as he calls it) and i get the bossam jung sik (pork belly plate). My bf also loves the old style bulgogi. The service is great too! The ladies are always very attentive and give us lots of banchan when we ask for refills! The only downside...my boa credit card never works here...it always gets rejected because the magnetic strip is not working properly :(

Another Southbay Korean gem! I'm convinced this is the B E S T (overall) Korean restaurant in the Southbay. Thanks to Foodie J. for mentioning this place to me a long time ago. This is one of those places I wish I went earlier. Totally lives up to its name "Big Flavor" (translated). I think the #1 thing I like about this place is that its NOT a BBQ place! I'm so sick of Korean restaurants having to have "something-BBQ" in the name, when there's so much more to Korean food than BBQ. Their menu is incredibly varied and all very good. They still have some BBQ meat on the menu tho, if you insist. The menu is in Korean, English and Japanese. Recently, my grandfather had asked for "wooguji tang" and I had no idea what he meant. Its too bad I didn't know of this place earlier. I saw it on the menu and got it. Its a very familiar dish to me, my mom would make it all the time, just never knew the name. Twice boiled cabbage in soybean paste soup with kalbi beef. It also comes with purple rice, boribap. The flavor was deep and full. The kalbi was so soft and tender. Its #4 in the menu under the "always delicious specialties" (or something like that) section, lol. The bibimbap comes in a large but shallow ceramic bowl. Something I'm not used to, but it does make the portion size look small, even tho I'm sure its a normal size. Odd but nice presentation I suppose. And yes, there's soondubu with the Chodang name on the back. My family likes the Eundae Gujorim. Basically is a cut cod fish sauted in a sauce along with vegetables and particularly large slices of radish. The radish soaks up a lot of the flavor and becomes soft as it cooks and is actually the best part of the dish. I decided to order the Haemul Kalguksu one time. It's a much different flavor than the typical chicken kalguksu. They boil half a crab along with a complete shrimp and clams and other seafood stuff and it makes the broth immensely flavorful. The noodles seem handmade, much higher quality than you'd expect considering its usually only given this detail at specialty restaurants. Its nice to see a restaurant pay a lot of attention to interior decor. This is the nicest looking interior I've seen at a Korean restaurant in a long time. Just look at the pics. Definitely coming back for more, and bringing my Grandfather with me for sure. (My grandfather finally was able to enjoy the wooguhji tang and gave a very positive response as he took a moment to look up and burp in between ravenous devouring of the soup.) Btw, hard to spot the store front if you dont see the plaza sign. Its next to the Christian Bookstore and Tous Le Jour Bakery. Plenty of parking in the large lot. O P E N . S U N DA Y S ! ! !

I've tried almost every kind of soon dobu here and it's always delicious. The waitresses are friendly, the restaurant is clean, and prices are reasonable. Plus there's a great cafe next door for coffee and pastries after your meal.

Don't get me wrong. I still like this place. But to hike your soon tofu almost $2 a serving over the past year because you have new shiny menus with pictures on it is just not right.

I'm sure that Da Maat is short for DAA MAATSHISUH! Or something along the lines of DAMN delicious because everything is pretty tasty here. My friend and I like to get lunch here every so often. Service is always friendly, consistent and the both of us are able to make it back to work within an hour. The waitresses are always very nice about refilling the banchan and making sure your food is to your liking. One time my date was taking too long and the waitress offered to cover her food and re-heat her soup once she got there = super nice! Décor inside the restaurant is respectable and the dining area is always very clean. Definitely a decent place to bring picky Korean parents. Prices are on the steep side for most Korean places and they don't offer any meat + soup combos. Soondooboo and bbq galbi lunch will run you about $40. :( Other than the prices, the food is absolutely delicious and they do have a daily rotating lunch special from $7-$10. Their seafood soondooboo has this really intense delicious flavor and has a healthy variety of seafood in it. It doesn't taste like Shin Ramyun (I'm looking at you, Cho Dang) and it comes with a side of rice in a stone pot. Ultimately, what keeps me awake at night is the thought of their yookgaejang kalgooksoo! The broth is always perfect in terms of taste, temperature and seasonings, the noodles are perfectly plentiful and al dente and they never skimp on the meat and vegetables. It's the best bowl of yookgaejang in the South Bay! I usually eat all of the noodles and end up with leftovers for the next day. Perfect!

It felt rather cozy and quite relaxing having dinner here on a Saturday night. I ordered their dolsot bibimbap (and tried ordering a bowl of sundubu, but the waitress advised against it, saying it would be too much...I'm glad I listened to her!), and it was quite delicious. Pretty standard fare when it came to the ingredients, and their sauce was good, but it wasn't spicy enough. I did, however, thoroughly enjoy their ban chan. Fish cakes, some veggie, yummy kimchi, bean sprouts, and seaweed...oh god...so delicious. Sometimes, I wonder if I really like korean food for their main courses, or if it's just because I love the appetizers...that's just ridiculous. A big plus was how attentive the waitress was. Didn't make me feel rushed at any point, and came by several times asking if I wanted refills on the banchan. Definitely my new close-to-apartment destination for tofu house when the craving hits!!

Delicious Korean food! I came here with my family today. I had a really bad toothache so the only thing I was able to eat was Beef Tofu. My family ordered a bunch of other food on the menu and it all looked so tasty. The decor is cute and simple. I would totally come back to this place. While I was eating with my family, the waitress was making homemade dumplings. I'll have to try that item when I go back.

I know this place is probably more famous for the tofu. But not to me!! Do not misunderstand... the tofu is fine. I enjoy spicier fare and was pleased to note that when requested Da Maat actually made the tofu quite spicy... something that can be hit or miss at other tofu houses. However I still reserve some judgment because I have only been here once. But I happened to eat here with my family a few days back and was fortunate enough to try the chap chae... OMG!!! I hit the mother lode, the beef ribs were awesome with just the right amount of veggies and noodles. It's my new favorite Korean dish and Da Maat does a pretty darn good job. Definitely worth the visit and stop for a few minutes to appreciate the entire south wall with dozens of variously made and decorated bowls... interesting!

Unassuming from the outside, I was nicely surprised by the warm, wooden interior which was very inviting and tastefully done. The large left hand wall sized photo window of lush green korean countryside gives one a feeling of being tucked inside a little Korean wooden hut looking out onto a village landscape. Something comforting about that. Service is friendly and the menu seems homestyle, and not overwhelming. They have handmade noodles and dumplings here. Kimchee gets two thumbs up. We had bibimbap and it was all good. Also tried their house dumplings - comfort food all the way. A nice surprise find!

I just went on Saturday night with a good friend, and I have never seen it so busy. We still got pretty good service, despite the dinner rush (it was around 6pm) and the two large groups that kept the servers busy. I stuck with my kalguksu (knife noodles) and my friend got their daeji bulgogi (spicy marinated bbq pork). He said it was really spicy. So, I tried some and it was indeed sinus-clearingly spicy, but not the typical Korean spiciness I'm used to. It kind of hit in the back of the mouth, top of the throat vs. on the tip of the tongue. One thing that I always want to order here is the braised fish dishes, but I get distracted when I see the kalguksu page of the menu. They also have a yukgyejang (spicy beef stew of sorts) kalguksu, which looked oh-so-spicy and good! Next time!

In my opinion: this is the go to place for korean food in the South Bay. Having grown up near koreans in rowland heights, and gone to school within spitting distance from K-town, I kinda miss it sometimes, and when I do this is where I go! The menu is small (or maybe not...I'm just used to huge menus). On my first visit I took my girlfriend's advice and ordered suh lung tang...which I was not fond of, but they redeemed themselves with having the gamja banchan (loooove !) their mandoo is also wholesome and satisfying On my second visit I had their bibimbap, which was beautifully presented and had everything that bibimbap is supposed to have, and nothing that it didnt. again, potato banchan! :D The service here is always excellent, the waitresses and very friendly, and the place is clean, it smells wonderful, and the interior decor is pretty awesome too (check out the wall of bowls, you won't find a duplicate bowl anywhere on there). The best part, you can easily walk out of here spending less than $15 including tax and tip

Definitely the best Korean restaurant I've come across in the South Bay, especially with regards to variety. Jin Kook and Cho Dang (owned by the same people as Da Maat) are great, too, but more specialized in their dishes. When my in-laws want to take someone from Korea to a restaurant or be treated to dinner for their anniversary, this is the place they choose. I've tried a number of dishes here and haven't been disappointed with any of them. If you don't like really spicy food, be careful what you order, though the staff is willing to work with you to change things up. They are very accommodating to food allergies (Korean food has lots of hidden shellfish). I don't have a menu in front of me, so it's difficult to comment on specific dishes I've had (maybe I'll update that later). Last night I had a kimchi and bean sprout, fish soup. It was excellent, and a good portion size that left me satisfied by not stuffed. You can order "brown" rice, and I just dumped by bowl into the soup and enjoyed. I've also enjoyed their octopus dishes there, including a nice dolsot bibimbap. The only thing to be careful of here is that the wait staff may not be the most fluent English speakers. For some of them, English is their third language. The menus are in Korean, Japanese, and English, so if you are OK with pointing, there should be no problem. The first time I went to the restaurant I ended up asking questions in Japanese, since neither my friend nor I had enough grasp of Korean to ask complex questions that way (like, "what vegetables are in x?").

My family and I ate here for the first time last night. We ordered spicy beef soup w/ noodles, bi bim bop and galbi beef. Everything was delicious. The other guests dishes looked incredible as well. Excited to go back. Pork belly and dumplings next time. Can't wait...

This is our go-to place when I have a craving for Korean food, not just Korean BBQ. They always bring different side dishes for you to start with, so I never know what to expect. The kim chi is not spicy at all and definitely not the best around (hence, the 4 stars instead of 5). My kids, who can be picky eaters, love the bulgogi, as do I. The kalbi can be a little tough, but that's to be expected of kalbi. The bi bim bap is average and a good introduction to Korean food for those who've never had it before. The spicy beef noodle soup has very, very good flavor and a good amount of heat. The spicy black cod and radishes dish is tasty but is a bit overpriced. Everything else is reasonably priced given the amount of food you get.

My family and I eat here all the time. First of all, we LOVE korean food and we can't get enough of it. (Even when we eat it at home everyday.) Secondly, their servers are kind and their food comes out pretty quick. They have a good variety of stuff on their menu. Here's some of our favorites: Myul chi kal gook soo: Hot noodles Bo Ssam: Steamed pork wrapped in leaf vegetable *my personal favorite* Bo dae jji gae: sausage, spam, noodles, vegetables in a spicy broth Wang man doo: Big dumplings with meat The taste of the food and presentation is clean. I like that. The only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars is they ran out of bossam twice because we went towards the end of their hours. I don't like it when I can't eat what I want. Stay away from hungry Jane. I know you girls know what I'm talking about.

The bf and I had a craving for Korean the other night and decided to take the Yelp general recommendation on this place. Very luckily they let us in as it was already 9pm and the place was empty. Food was yummy, nothing outrageous but solidly tasty and service was outstanding. Yes they were empty so there was no one else to serve, but they had every right to be rude since we were clearly keeping them at work later than they needed to be. Instead they were exceedingly kind and attentive and continued to offer refills on the side dishes all the way through the meal. I would try this place again if only because of the service and good food. I'll keep my eye out for something else that may surprise my taste buds a little more though. Update: Tried it again for the first time last night. This time with plenty of other patrons who only stared at us for a few seconds as we were the only white faces there. Nevertheless, food was very good with surprisingly fast service for how busy they were. Maybe I'm late on the pickup but also discovered roasted barley tea which prompted an entertaining but truly bizarre visit to the Korean market down the street (behind Denny's and next to CVS.) Don't know really what I was expecting but listening to Bing Crosby sin Christmas carols while deciding if I wanted giant Pocky or shrimp chips or red bean mochi was not it. Found a bag of roasted Barley tea however and will try it out this blustery November afternoon.

Not the best place to grab Korean food, but if you're not willing to driving to K-Town, then this will satisfy your needs. Also, they amazingly have Korean cooks! The decorations and set-up is clean, comfortable, and unique (esp. the various rice bowls adorning the interior wall). The menu is pretty limited to soups, soft tofu, and grilled meat. Most dishes are less than $10. The service leaves much to be desired like most other Korean restaurants. The food tasted decent but the rice portions were tiny. I didn't want to ask for more rice fearing they'd probably charge me like $2 for it. What I was most disappointed about was that they didn't serve the traditional Korean potato salad at the time (Saturday night). What I was pleased to see is that the employees use surface cleaners when they wipe down the tables, not just a wet rag.

I have been here 4 times and each time I wonder why I come. I am Korean and I know good Korean food. I ordered their bass dish, soon tofu, rice cake soup and something else. They put too much MSG in their food and it just doesn't taste that good. The bottomline is that the food must taste good, but it doesn't. It is bland or too salty, never "just right" and if I'm going to be paying $9 (before tax/tip) I expect to have a well prepared meal. Pros: not busy, so I know we will get seating when I have a big group cons: food quality is poor MSG

I REALLY wanted to give this place a 4.5 star rating but yelp doesn't do star-fractions.. I rounded down because I am shady and really because as much as I whole heartedly LOVE this place, I don't know it well enough to give it all 5 stars. But HOLY MOLY. This place is GREAT! First off, I LOVE Cho Dang because I love soon dubu. But sometimes Cho Dang is crowded and loud and it's a bit "too much" for me. Why not come around the corner to Da Maat where the food is JUST AS GOOD with MORE variety, MORE side dishes, NICER waitresses, and LESS crowded for the SAME prices? My best friend and I used to come here every New Years Day for 3 years. Since everything else was closed, we were driven to try out this relatively new spot and I am so glad to have found it. Their food is SPICY, FLAVORFUL, and INEXPENSIVE. Whenever I have out-of-town guests coming to visit with me in Torrance, I take them either to Da Maat, Bamboo Song, or El Burrito Jr. -- Only the finest for my guests! I have tried many of Da Maat's dishes, but the one that I come back for is the yook gae jjang. I refuse to write any more because I know that I can't do it justice - it is simply amazing. If you're into spicy, flavor, and filling foods, this place is for you.

Old Style Bul Go Gee was the bomb here. We had Bee Beem Bap, Boo Dae JJee Gae, and Yook Gae Jang Kal Gook Su. All the dishes we ordered were pretty yummy, but out of the 4 dishes, the old style Bul go gee was the winner. The Bul go gee comes with a lot of soup and clear noodles. It's best when you mix some of the soup into your rice after munching on the meat. Kal gook su was good, boo dae jjee gae was good. Stone pot Bee beem bap ( can't really go wrong with that anywhere else) The side dishes were also very yummy. There were a total of 5 side dishes. Mixed Seaweed pickle, kimchi, Kong Na Mul(bean sprouts), fish cake, Jap Chae(clear noodle). Would definitely go again just for the old style bul go gee.

Spicy. Beef. Noodle. Soup. For me this has become one of my favorite comfort foods. They also have a nice variety of side dishes which changes ever so slightly every now and again. The first time I came to this place, I came for the tofu and I wasn't overly impressed. My friend had the same seafood tofu and seemed to enjoy it, another had the bulgogi and it seemed a little bland. But then, I decided to give it another try after another friend raved about the soup...and ever since then, I've been a devout worshipper. Side note: the service here is much more "pleasant" than other surrounding tofu spots. So I guess all in all, my review seems to be a half and half, but don't be deceived, I gave it the 4 star rating because the soup is just that bomb!

I love this place. I feel like they have the cleanest and freshest Korean food that is always cooked to perfection. They have all kinds of Korean food from soon-doo-boo (tofu soup) to kahl bi (marinated beef) to bo ssam (pork wrapped in steam cabbage). Their soon-doo-boo is really good and always cooked just the way I want it and their bo-ssam always taste fresh. I think the owner is the same owner as Cho Dang Tofu. I might be wrong. Definitely a place to visit when you are craving fresh Korean food.

They have good soon tofu and noodles but they are not excellent. I also had their bibimbap and bossam. they are good but not anything special. I had much better bossam in k town and compares to that Da Maat's was dry and expensive. Bibimbap is good. I had soon tofu too and I like cho dang tofu much better.

The broth in the beef hand cut noodles is very flavorful and portion is quite large. The lunch special bibimbap is just okay, I would recommend getting the sizzling stone pot ones instead. An authentic korean restaurant (most customers are korean) and the place has an old town korea feel with a whole wall dedicated to a display of bowls and also random kimchi barrels (i'm guessing) used as decoration. No fake fusion stuff here, just great korean food.

I used to work nearby here and it soon became a favorite lunch spot for me. Depending on the weather, I only order one of two things at this restaurant: the mul nengmyun (cold buckwheat noodles) is the best I've had in LA and the wang mandoo gook (kimchee dumpling soup) is perfection when it's cold out. Oh, how I miss this place...

My hubby and I were craving good, authentic Korean food and stumble across Da Maat here on yelp. We decided to give it a try and guess what it was excellent! We have been here twice already and the second time I brought along my Korean peeps. Come to find out Da Maat is one of their favorite places as well. I recommend this place to everyone!

The staff were nice and the place is clean. The food was okay - nothing remarkably good or bad.

Love Da Maat! It's one of the few Korean tofu places I can bring my husband to - he's not a fan of tofu/seafood & is picky with his cut of beef :) the spicy noodle soups are great! Lotsa flavor & a good kick to it. Same with the sundubu! The banchan are yummy too but I do wish tofu places have the deep fried mackerel as part of the free banchan - the only place I know that does it is Cho Dang in Cerritos - not the Torrance branch. Also desserts! No yummy ice cream here to finish off a hot spicy dish. Nonetheless, I think it's one of the best Korean restaurants in the South Bay!

This has become my favorite destination for soon and other korean soups that you can't get at most other restaurants. The dumplings are a must if it's your first visit.

Dined here for the 1st time with my husband and baby on Friday night after a couple of Japanese places we originally wanted to go to in the area were packed and had a long wait. I'm so happy it worked out that way. The Korean food here is so tasty and something new for us as we usually go for Korean bbq. We were not too familiar with some of the menu items and decided to try the tofu soup based on all the positive yelp reviews. It was absolutely divine! My husband and I shared a bowl of the tofu with mushroom soup and nearly devoured the whole thing with the white rice. My husband ordered the beef bulgogi and it was one of the best we've tried. Not an ounce of fat on the meat and it was cooked to perfection. We also tried the kimchee and beef dumplings. They were rather HUGE but also tasty. Even my 21 month old son had a few bites and liked them. The Korean ladies who worked there were all very sweet and constantly came by and asked if we needed more of the different kimchees. They also smiled and were very pleasant and helpful to us, even considering we were the only non-Koreans dining their at the time. They even brought out a bowl of plain tofu and a bowl of rice for our son. Surprisingly to us, he finished everything that was in front of him. He especially loved the bean sprouts. We walked out feeling very happy and also very full. A great experience and great food. We'll definitely be back.

I would say it used to be a 4 star restaurant but the last couple times we've gone it's been a situation of where's the chicken in their soup. The broth is still delicious and the noodles are well cooked but the problem is they've become skimpy with the chicken. A couple small chunks and then nothing. Not acceptable.

Love their boodaejjigae and their food is great! 4 stars because the same reason as the guy below. Price went up! :( still bomb though

They jacked up their prices. Now too pricey for a boonshik place Used to like the place for their prices but since their price is now on par with a regular Korean restaurant, I ll go to a proper Korean place

My coworker took me to Da Maat for my first time. I ordered the #23 spicy pork and it was delish! If you don't love spicy, I highly suggest you do not order this dish. The only reason I gave this Korean restuarant 4 stars is because it not truely a Korean BBQ place. You dont cook your own meats. The staff is super friendly and the service was quick. We didnt have to wait too long. All of the side dishes are yummy, but another concern was that most Korean BBQs that I have been to usually refill the sides and this place does not.

My rate is low because of the service i got from them..my parents brought some home one day and it was pretty good so i was going to togo some for myself. I went in to order and they were so rude. The way she greeted me and spoke informal to me i knew that theyre the type of koreans who look down on u if ur a kid and u dont come in with ur parents..while i was looking at the menu one waitress pushed me out of the way while she was serving the food. Did not want to order from here so i left.

good main courses (hot tofu pots, which taste pretty much the same everywhere), but this place truly excels in its side dishes ....very fresh homemade kimchee, dark marinated potato, 2 kinds of seaweed salad...plus unlimited refills without your asking... yes the service was that good. very soothing & warm old-world decors. It's becoming my favorite Korean Non-BBQ place in the South Bay.

I previously gave Da Maat 4 stars, but I'm upping my rating to 5. This place really is as good as it gets when it comes to Korean food. LOVE their unique chicken kalguksu (hand carved noodle soup), dolsap bibimbap, chapjae, yukejyang kalguksu and all the sides that come so generously. Service here is fantastic, ambience is warm and their friendly staff keep the restaurant super clean. I'm now a frequent patron (at LEAST once a week) so it's time I start checking in with every visit!

Considering it's south bay, not bad. They have a variety of dishes on the menu. My favs are spicy pork, clam noodles and spicy nang myun. Not sure if the chef changed, but the soup for the clam noodles does not taste the same as before. It had a "clean" after taste, but that's gone. Still better than most places in south bay, but a notch below what I remember. Spicy nangmyun is not bad. Good spicy sauce and chik noodles were chewy, the way I like it. The spicy pork is good and tasty, and comes with lettuce, so you can wrap your pork with it. The order is large enough to share with a loved one, but you will probably have to supplement it with another dish/appetizer. Their wang kim chee mandoo was good, from what I can recall (but I have not ordered it in a while).

Really good noodles and dumplings. I always think of this place and forget where it is so I'm writing a review so I can come back and find it. Luckily, we went to King's Hawaiian next door this weekend and ran into it again. Simple, homemade-type fare.

One of my favorite restaurants in Torrance! Food is delicious here, we come here at least once a week. Noodle dishes, BBQ dishes, soon tofu, bibimbap, you name it, can't go wrong. I am also happy that they (supposedly) do not use MSG in their food. My 3 yr old has food allergy and he can eat pretty much anything from here, minus a potato salad side dish that includes peanuts, and I don't have to worry a thing. I also like that I can come here during peak hour and never have to wait. I can just walk in, relax and have great meal. The ladies that work here are great. Not overly friendly but honest and helpful.

This is not your standard fare. I would say this is more traditional Korean food than most Americanized restaurants. It is my favorite Korean restaurant in the South Bay. My only complaint is the usual mediocre Korean lady service (they're not mean, but they're not nice). I usually order any of the following: dak kal gook soo (chicken noodle soup), boodae jjigae ("army base" casserole), bo ssam (boiled bacon, lettuce, and radish), mandoo (dumpling), and mandoo gook(dumpling soup).

Solid food, good sides and good service. Love the soups and kalbi is good too! One of my fav places to go for a quick warm Korean bite

Is that why all soup dishes taste so good? MSG? You can't go wrong odering any soup dishes here. I think it's the same owner as Cho Dang Tofu on Hawthorne, they have the same Tofu menu, and their soontofu tastes better than Cho Dang without the wait.

Korean food craving kicked in again today. Thank you Yelp app for showing me the way to this place. As I walked in, I noticed the lovely wood interior and large jars as accents in the window. Very nice and seemed very clean. The only downside were the little gnats or bugs flying around. I think they were coming from the pointsettias in the window. Anyway, I ordered the kim chee soup with wild sesame seeds and bean sprouts. Very good and I didnt feel guilty eating it because it seemed so healthy. The side dishes were different for me. A couple potato dishes, only one kim chee dish, bean sprouts, cooked mild peppers with little fishies and a miso coated radish dish. All were very tasty. Service was friendly and the prices were decent. They just need to get rid of the plants because shooing away flying insects while you are trying to eat is pretty annoying, not to mention gross. -1 star for that. Sorry.

ordered the bossam and spicy beef soup with hand made noodles. $28 without tax. the bossam was good to try once but had too high of an expectation for it I guess. Probably wouldn't order it again. But for those who like fatty pork (wrap with steam cabbage and radish, it might just be your dish. The spicy beef soup with hand made noodles was hearty though. Would come back and try other things on their menu. 3 stars for being on the expensive side. but service was good.

Very average....and more like 2.5 stars. While the waitresses are pleasant, the ban chan was skimpy and no one came to ask what we needed during the entire meal. Had to get up ourselves to ask for fork for the kids. They left the front door open and during the entire meal, we had to battle flies landing on our food. Though they told us the soup noodle we ordered was not spicy, it was and the kids couldn't eat much of it. We usually order the seafood pancake at nearly every Korean restaurant, this pancake here is too thick, not enough seafood and not crunchy enough. The mandoo soup was good though.

You guys raved so much about this place that I had to go. I was sadly disappointed to taste such bland korean food. The banchan was mediocre at best. I don't know what you guys have been smokin'...but please pass some of that 'ish my way.

Nice little restaurant with authentic Korean food. Nothing crazy and over the top. For a Korean person it's like having a nice home cooked meal. I usually get the noodles in beef broth (served with rice). The olden style beef(bulgogi) is one of my favorites also. The noodle soup with chicken is also great. It's like American chicken noodle soup upgraded. Prices are decent. Under $10 for almost everything. Most of the dishes are hot soup based so be prepared to sweat a little. But it's definitely worth the sweat. I would have to say they have the best korean food in the Torrance area.

Pretty good place. I think the owner of Chodang soon tofu also owns this place...i dont really like chodang soon tofu - but that's besides the point. I got the mandoo yoo kae jang.. i think that's what it was... aka Dumpling Spicy Casserole Soup type thing. It hit the spot since what i wanted was something spicy and meaty at the same time. pretty nice decor with little pots and dishes on the walls and stuff overall pretty decent place

It's not often that I run into a Korean noodle restaurant, so when I tried this place, I became a fan, and they're hand-made. Great food and great service...and not just the typical BBQ, but they have that too. They also have Bibimbap, soon dobu and the appetizers that come while you wait for your meal. A very at home and comfortable atmosphere.

I liked the previous restaurant at this location, Gunusip, just a smidgen more. Maybe it's nostalgia, or maybe it was the seafood sticky noodles and scallion pancake. Anyway, Da Maat is still ok.

So a couple weeks ago we had a Saturday excursion to Torrance planned for various errands and one of them was for my hubby to donate blood at the Red Cross center which is a couple doors down from this place in the same strip mall. The munchkins and I were going to have some lunch at Cafe TLJ while he did something good for humanity but to my surprise, they don't serve food anymore at TLJ, just coffee, tea, and pastries. So I was all flustered because I didn't want to go eat some crappy chain food which seems like all they have to offer in Torrance and I didn't want to drive all over in crappy Torrance traffic to find something decent to eat, after all, it's only going to take him an hour or less to give blood (this is where J says "you know, if I had an iphone we could check Yelp!" and I tell him "you're not getting an iphone!") Well J notices this place so we wander in. And it looks great! I like to walk into an ethnic restaurant and be the only whitey in there, it usually means you're going to get something good. For the kids we ordered the giant bowl of noodle soup with shredded chicken and J and I both had spicy pork bulgogi. The soup broth was awesome and the noodles were definitely homemade - as good as my grandma's. The bulgogi was spicy enough and the meat was tender. All were delicious and the little bowls of side dishes were good, especially the cucumbers. I wanted to try the kimchi dumpling but didn't want to order a whole bowl of them because we already had a mountain of food coming, so they brought us a little dish with one big kimchi dumpling and two little meat dumplings and some dipping sauce and they were tasty too. So overall, yay! Something worth eating in soulless stripmall bigbox Torrance!

I think Da Maat means "it all tastes good" and it does. I recommend the duhk mandu gook; when you look up comfort food in the dictionary, there's a picture of that dish.
