My family loves this place! The servers are always very friendly & seem happy to be doing a great job. The food is terrific every time without fail. Even the young kid who seats you or takes the to-go orders has great customer service skills & adds to the whole experience. The chips & salsa are above & beyond tasty from other places although the last time we ate here the hotter of the two salsas provided burned our lips off. Kids are welcome & our 5-yr old is always comfortable here; it isn't stuffy at all. Although the delicious margaritas are always served a little weak, the waiters seem to know & will graciously strengthen it up if you let them know. Otherwise this place is a solid 5-stars in my book!

Although this restaurant is the best formal sit down Mexican restaurant in the San Jose area that I have been to, I was not impressed enough with the food to give it a higher rating. The servers were very attentive and hospitable and the enchilada plate I ordered was reasonable priced. If you are looking for a nice restaurant to grab some simple but tasty Mexican food, this could be your place.

Great spot to grab some Mexican food and drinks! Tried this place on Cinco de Mayo, which might not have been the greatest idea since the wait was about 30 minutes or so. I guess that was a problem for me because I was hungry and at my regular spot I never have to wait. But I stuck it out because I thought this place must be good if the wait is this long! After being seated, our waitress brought over chips and salsa. I really liked the chips because they were super fresh and warm. The salsa was good too!! She took our drink order (water for Mom & melon margarita for me!) and left us to survey the menu for a bit. My mom ordered their chicken enchiladas and I had the mole chicken enchiladas. We both were happy with our orders. You could really tell that they make their enchiladas fresh and not pre-made where they sit around all day. I do wish they would put a little cheese and some sauce inside the tortilla so that it would be more moist. My margarita was pretty good, but then I remembered how much I don't like tequila so I didn't finish it, especially since it was made with Cuervo! BLAH! We finished our food pretty fast, but because of the place being extremely packed with patrons, our waitress took a while before returning to our table. So if you are needy and want a visit from your server more often, I suggest going on a non-busy night. So definitely give Casa Lupe a shot because they were well worth the wait!

This is, by far, my favorite Mexican restaurant in the bay area. The servers are all fantastic, friendly, and quick and efficient while remembering the particular quirks of our orders. The hosts are so kind. I enjoy their enchiladas, while my husband enjoys their fajitas. Their guacamole is so good, it's above and beyond great. I don't feel the need to go anywhere else for my Mexican food. I really love this place! (About me: I am from Texas and judge my Mexican restaurants according to my taste for Tex-Mex. I make no claims to know what is or isn't authentic, but I know what tastes good to me, and I definitely can recognize great service!)

After hearing good things about Casa Lupe #2, but showing up on Sunday evenings twice (when they are closed), it was nice to finally try their food. I would give it a 4.5 if I could, but the experience wasn't perfect (and not really their fault). I had a combo platter with two chili rellenos and a cheese enchilada verde, my co-diner had a two enchilada platter, and we split a flan for desert. Thumbs Up: The chips and salsa were good, but one had too much oregano for the chips; it did make a great enhancer for the enchilada and sides however. The rest of the food was excellent, with the chili rellenos erupting with cheese, and full of flavor. I was tempted by some of the fish specials, but have been disappointed at Mexican places in the past, so I stuck with what should be good. I guess I prefer Sonoran-style "classic" Mexican to the newer styles which tend to be too sweet. The staff was very friendly, and efficient. The portions are good-sized. Thumbs Down: It's loud; kind of hard to carry on a conversation with someone who speaks softly. The prices are a little high considering that I didn't have any meat or fish. One of the women on the staff brought our chips and salsa and left behind a cloud of cigarette breath, Yuck! To make matters worse, a couple was seated next to us that reeked of cigarettes. Come on, who smokes anymore? I'll be back!

LOVE this place! My fiancée grew up in Mexico City so he loves their menudo and says its pretty authentic. Their margaritas are amazing and so is the fried ice cream! No exactly cheap, but not expensive either, right down the middle of the road. The servers are always super friendly and they recognized us and treated us like regulars after coming only 2 times. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed!

It's okay... the waitstaff are super friendly and quick. The food is tasty, but not the best I've ever had. Good times though...

The tostada chips and salsa are lovely and have a bit of a kick. We both had the Plato Tres Colores, with an included soup for starter, which was ok but nothing too special. The main was a large plate with 3 nice enchiladas, beans and rice, all was great. Service was good, and for an evening, close to closing, with another 5-7 tables full, the service was quick and with a smile. The only reason it's not closer to a five-star is the lack of tortilla or lime soup, which for me make the whole meal.

5 stars! 1 star each for... Great customer service-- There isn't a huge place to wait because the restaurant doesn't need one; you're usually at your table eating chips and salsa as soon as you arrive. Which brings me to my second point-- the chips/salsa are refilled so quickly that I don't even notice when the server comes by our table. All of the employees are nice, welcoming, and informative and the food comes out fast! Always delicious and satisfying food- I've never left disappointed and I've ordered many of the menu choices. Enchiladas, fajitas, burritos, nachos, chimichangas, etc. My brother orders the Platos Tres Colores every time he comes. There is always a generous helping of beans and rice. Many of the menu items come with sides of soup/salad. Variety- The menu is huge! It's difficult to get bored with the food. I've found that many Mexican restaurants have the same thing over and over again with different sauces or toppings, but Casa Lupe is pretty good at actually switching up your options. Worthy Prices- It's more expensive than fast food obviously, but it's a nice sit down restaurant and the plates are large and in charge-- definitely worth your buck but not nearly enough to break the bank. Fun Atmosphere- There are T.V.s everywhere playing sports games, however, it's not a sports bar. You can watch the game while you eat or completely ignore the T.V.'s and enjoy some quality time with your dining partner/s. Sometimes, larger tables can get a little drunk and rowdy and when the restaurant is crowded it can be loud, but it's a pretty big place so the noise level isn't a huge problem in my opinion. Added bonus to the fun atmosphere: the margaritas are awesome! Casa Lupe is a great place to go for a delicious dinner any night of the week. Eat up and enjoy!

This is such a great neighborhood, family restaurant. They've had the same waiters for years - every waiter helps out with every table - all very attentive and welcoming. We love coming here and feel like family. It's a definite "it" spot for Sunnyvale families to come and enjoy a great meal together. For me, it's all about the fajitas. Their chicken fajitas are so tender and flavorful. Chips are warm - guacamole is great - TVs around for sports fans.....Unfortunately I'm not a fan of spicy food so I can't personally vouch for their entrees - but everybody we come with says the food is great. And the food comes out quickly - don't know how they do that with the restaurant the size that it now is. It's a bit loud - tables are pretty close to proximity......but it's a family gathering - not a date for two! And the Carmel's they give you after dinner....yum!

I love this place! It's my favorite Mexican restaurant in the bay area. I particularly love the chicken enchiladas. The salsa (for the chips) isn't my favorite, but everything else is great! And the service is always good, too! The only real draw back is that they're closed on Sundays!

This place is solid. The service is stellar given my expectation for a less than expensive Mexican restaurant. A pet peeve I have, which I have come to expect with low budget places, is that they refuse to clear dirty silverware. Not this place. Use a fork for a salad, they clear it. I appreciate it and other places should learn this lesson. Excellent food and plenty of space for big groups. I love the Chicken Mexicali.

My husband and I decided to try a local place in our neighborhood, and since we were craving Mexican food we settled on Casa Lupe (2). We were seated right away, and immediately given chips and (spicy) salsa (which I normally don't mind, but they didn't bring us water right away so I sat there choking for a minute). A nice bus boy or sever came by and acted confused as if he didn't know if he wanted to take our drink order or what he wanted to do so I just chimed in and asked for a margarita and much needed water, as did my husband. He came back almost immediately which made me wonder why he didn't go to the bar to get our margaritas. I eventually realized they had them pre poured in the back area. The margarita was pretty tasty and strong, but a little sweet for me but not bad! Eventually our waiter came over who acted super nice and enthusiastic, and put our food orders in. I got the cheese enchilada and chile relleno, and my husband got a beef taco, a pork tamale, and chicken burrito (he had a big appetite). He enjoyed his meal, which was HUGE. Didn't realize when they say platter, they mean it. He took most of it home. I thought my food was ok, nothing special. And the prices, super high!!! Wasn't expecting that at all. Our waiter, while started off on a good foot, was too busy chatting with the table behind us to bother to refill our waters or check in on us. My husband flagged him down to refill our margaritas once, and finally he came by to ask if we needed boxes which he did box up for us. The waitress at the table next to us was constantly refilling her guests' water glasses and checking on her tables. Too bad we didn't have her as or waitress. Not a good first impression but it wasn't totally awful either. I just don't think we will be going back, unfortunately. We love supporting local businesses, but this is not one we will likely return to.

Yeah, that's right .... *another* Mexican restaurant review. I was stoked to find a good sit down place in my 'hood .... in a strip mall no less. It was a Saturday night around 6pm and our party of 4 snagged the last table. Casa Lupe #2 was the place to be! The service was crazy good, the atmosphere was casual and homey and the food totally pleased my taste buds. What did I order? Chicken fajitas, of course. I didn't love them as much as I love Palo Alto Sol's or Celias, but I still enjoyed them very much and would absolutely order them again next time I'm there. I also really liked the addition of the zucchini. Mmmm. Chips came with two types of salsa. I did not care for the chunky one. It wasn't spicy enough and was too chunky for my liking. Smooth is more bueno! Kudos to Casa Lupe #2. You just made yourself a new customer. Ole!

This place is pretty good. Pretty consistent as far as taste. I always get the grilled chicken salad because it's fresh, the portion size is fairly big, and they have fresh salsa and chips that I always end up eating too much of because it's so good and the refill without asking. I've also had the tostada which is really good- almost too big that if you don't finish your whole meal, it get's soggy if you end up wanting to take it home later to eat. Lunchtime during the week, the wait can take a few minutes- so I'd advise making reservations if you have more than 5 or so. They have the "better"(as in not the standard wooden chair which most of the time is broken) high chairs for kiddo's which is useful for a parent. Thumbs up for taste.

Salsa hot, margaritas cold, people friendly, portions big, cost reasonable - especially when taking leftovers for dinner #2. very festive!

Love love love this place! Great service amazing food and reasonable prices! So glad it's so close to mi casa:) the fajitas and enchiladas are a must! Also they offer house made tamales that are awesome! Been coming here over a year and they are definately consistent.

This is one of my favorite mexican restaurants in the area. The restaurant is a good size and it has cute decor. It's in a really random spot in sunnyvale though, right next to the Safeway and a wedding cake shop. Their service, food, and drinks are good. Their chips and salsa are amazing. They have two salsa options: spicy and mild, which is great. They have a wide selection of food here. They also have some authentic mexican dishes on here. I come here about once a month and have not had a bad experience. When my friends and I go here, we always order their sangria, which is really good! Everytime the waiter sees us, they say, "Sangia?" which is kinda sad, but it tells you how much we come here and love this place. Their margaritas are also very good! If you're looking for a new mexican place to try this is definitely it. It is always packed here!

I really debated giving CL 2 or 3 stars. It was OK, but there are other Mexican restaurants that are better that I would rate 3 stars. The service was very friendly and drinks were brought quickly (almost record time) but the food was just so-so. I like chunky guacamole and it was smooth and flavorless here. My main was chicken mole. The sauce was good but it had small pieces of shredded chicken. I prefer a complete chicken breast or at least larger chunks, The beans and rice were also very bland. There were 8 people at our table and nobody complimented any dish.

Gotta give Casa Lupe 5 stars as it's my favorite Mexican restaurant in Sunnyvale! Friendly staff, good service, and great food! What more could I ask for? Oh yeah, and great location too, right next to the Sugar Butter Flour bakery where temptation calls out your name. Tried the shrimp taco special this week - very good! Also a fan of their enchiladas suizas. Mouth-watering, tongue-tantalizing good!

Warm welcome at all times. Food is always fresh and very very hot. 2 different salsa served with chips 1 chunky 1 pureed...delish! Service A+ Food A+ Recommendation: Appetizer the nachos in steak (not on menu), chicken or beef are all really good they come plated nicely baked hot from the oven. Dinner: enchiladas, garlic lime chicken breast, fajitas of course & their rice is off the hook! Really everything is good here!

Big portions great food. 2 Salasa with the chips, both very tasty and a bit spicy. Chile verde was amazing, fajitas, taquitos both looked great. The ambiance is comfortable as well. Locals at the bar, families and friends at all the tables. I just wish they were open on sunday! Definitely worth a shot!

My first time in California and my first experience of mexican food here. The atmosphere was nice, the service was prompt and the food was good. Seemed like a great place to get some food and have some drinks so may have to come back to try their margaritas that everyone seemed to rave about. The chips and salsa was great. Really liked how you got two types of salsa, and I really liked how they had some heat. For my meal I got the cat fish fajita plate. This was my first time having cat fish and I really enjoyed it. Was a great restaurant and would definitely come back.

Hands down the best Mexican my husband and I have had. This place is always packed when we have gone, and it is because the food and service are great.

I just had a fajita-orgasm last night! I love fajitas and...Casa Lupe's steak fajitas is possibility the best fajitas I've ever had. I don't know what they're putting in their seasonings or marinades, but that delicious meat just bounces off my tongue, hits the roof of my mouth..and I can feel this calm coming over me as it jiggles down my throat and reaches my stomach. Ohh..heaven. It comes with nice slivers of white, red and yellow onions, guacamole with huge chunks of avacado, dollop of sour cream, flavorful spanish rice, bouncy beans and couple pieces of tortillas wrapped up in foil. Their salsa is oh..the not burn-the-shitznit-out-of-your-mouth-need-milk-now hot, but a good heat that tickles your tongue and leaves a nice warmth in your belly. They package all up in those nicer containers that you find at Maggianno's...or *insert any nice restaurant*, instead of those syrofoam plates with foil on top. The waiter that took my order was really friendly. They've got an extensive menu with burritos, tacos, chile renellos and a bar too. The decor and atmosphere makes me feel like I've walked into a restaurant in Mexico. Yes, as I scan the restaurant, it's mostly white people eating there, instead of Mexican people. Maybe indicating that the food is more americanized, instead of mexicanized. But I don't care, I've found my new restaurant for fajitas!

This is our Saturday go to place. The staff is great, friendly, and efficient. Our main server, Rick, is outstanding. The food is great and the portions are plentiful. They are always willing to adjust an entree to fit our taste. The prices are reasonable and every meal has been exceptional. The place does get packed but we have never had to wait very long for a table. This is a family run place and they care about their clientele, they make you feel as if you are part of the family. If something isn't right, let them know and they will correct it.

I have been visiting my sister in Sunnyvale for a month now and I am really beginning to feel sorry for the people who live here. Unfortunately or fortunately for my sister and me, we grew up in San Diego so we know what good mexican food tastes like and I can tell you, it sure as heck doesnt taste like this. A shredded beef burrito is supposed to have shredded beef, not chunks of grey, soggy god knows what. This place was terrible and the fact that it has as many stars as it does reflects the fact that there are no good restaurants (aside from asian) in Sunnyvale.

They also have a location on Castro St in Mt View but I like this location a lot better because it's a bit bigger. They have yummy strong margaritas, great service, huge portions, and yummy food and reasonable prices and I think they make each bowl of salsa by hand. Last time I was there with friends the first bowl of salsa was nice and spicy once we finished that bowl all the other bowls of salsa we requested didn't taste exactly the same

One of my favorite restaurants. The food is terrific, the service is great, the location and parking are convenient, the prices are reasonable. And a plus is that it's quiet enough to actually HEAR to talk business!

The price, food, and service is great. It helps to have a mom that is extremely friendly to the staff, but think they do a great job with the timing regardless. I don't think they do mixed drinks all that well, but I'm more of a beer man anyways. Would recommend to others.

Not too many Mexican joints server Menudo everyday, it was welcome to see it on the menu here. Got a chile relleno to boot (though this has a different sauce than most I've tried) for a nice hearty lunch. The co-workers seemed to all enjoy their entrees too, so the place is on our lunch list now. Servers are friendly, the space is big and it looks like they have a sizeable selection of alcohol. Next time I might be eating the Menudo for it's intended reason....

This is where I spent my Cinco de Mayo, and let me tell you this place was packed!!! But it's super cute how the owner and the customers all know each other. My burrito was just what I wanted on this special night, so I am so happy I tried this place out. The service was good even though they were so busy, and the portions are huge! I will for sure be back here, because I love me some Mexican food. =)

  • Kevin S.

Awesome! They have the best Mexican I have found since I moved to California! Salsa is fantastic and the chips taste like they might be made in house. I had the fajitas and they, too, were delectable. The flan was an excellent finish -- perfect consistency and the right amount of caramel sauce. I will be back!

2.5 stars. Came to try out Casa Lupe 2 based on the good yelp reviews... Food (includ chips & salsa) is just mediocre, and service a little slow. Not that I'm discriminating or anything, but there are very few Hispanics eating here. That's also a sign to me.

  • Robert W.

I've been here a couple times, and I make sure all my friends hear about it. So before I get into the good stuff....I'll bring up Casa Lupe's 1 problem....they are always busy, so usually, you will have to wait for a table. BUT this is a sign of a great restaurant! The food is delicious (try the Carne Asada, or even better the Carne Asada Nachos, I always get those when I visit). The service is excellent. I've had the same waiter each time and he is an extremely nice guy, and even hooked up my party with free jello shots last time. He kept the margaritas coming, and his energy was a welcome vacation from your pissed off teenager working at olive garden. I wish I knew his name! Stop in this place, it's a small family owned restaurant that prides itself on the quality of its food and service. So far, it's my favorite restaurant in Sunnyvale.

A-Ok, even if it is in a strip mall. A bit dark and 70's in the interior, but that may be part of the charm. The meat does not stand out, but it does not suck either.

Ah yes.. Good old Rocky's. My sister Monika also reviewed this restaurant, but I feel as though it did not serve justice. I have postponed writing a review because I do not want this gem to get anymore crowded than it already is!!! ..which is a bit selfish.. but after you eat here.. you will understand. ;) The family who works here is incredibly inviting and ALWAYS greets every costumer as if you are long time friends (which is our case is true.. since my brother, sister and I speculate that we have eaten here since birth). My father has been going here since he escaped from the Hungarian Revolution, and claims he was the first costumer to eat here. It is a miracle that he did not name myself and my siblings after this restaurant or his favorite dishes. ;) Now, if you are the type of person who only cares about food quality.. you are still in luck!!!! I have yet to eat at another Mexican restaurant that is better than Casa Lupe. Everything, and i mean EVERYTHING is consistently amazing, even if you take home left overs to eat the day after!!! :D Nothing is greasy, the meat is amazing, they're great at personalizing your meal and don't make you feel bothersome for asking, and they serve their food quite speedy! In the end, if you are hungry and looking to pick up a bite to eat or sit down and have a tasty meal, cruise on over!!! I promise that you will not be disappointed. Even the pickiest eaters in my family love this place (which is a miracle), as well as the family who works there. For new costumers, my favorites are the: -cheese and chicken enchilada's -tostata salad (great low cal option, high protein) -veggie burrito -chicken soft tacos -my father and brother both LOVE the Chili Verde burrito :D Lastly, if you have a sweet tooth.. the cinnamon chips (pronouced ben-way-lows) are AMAZING and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My brother absolutely loves them!! I say you have to try these at least once, they are like a crunchy churro, but with ice cream!!! If you ever see myself or my family eating here..come up and say howdy!!! We can toast with our chips and salsa. ;D

Yo- As a recent transplant to Sunnyvale - DW and I are out searching for that 'perfect' hole in the wall Mexican Restaurant. I had the shrimp cocktail (not on the menu) and a bowl of albondigas soup. DW had the chicken fajitas. First off - the food was on the bland side - had to request a bottle of hot sauce to pump it up a bit (both soup and shrimp cocktail) Service was very good and attentive - but the food - being fresh and all - just wasn't there. The quest continues.

I have been eating at Casa Lupe for 21 years and still can't get enough of the incredible homestyle food and the welcoming family atmosphere that they bring to us! I am a chicken enchilada girl all the way but Rocky's Fiesta Tostada can't be beat! I love the Cabo Wabo Silver margarita on the rocks no salt......I think it is Casa Lupe time again!

We walked into Case Lupe Number 2 at 7:45PM on a Saturday. The place is at the end of a non-descript strip mall with a Safeway at the other end. The place was packed and loud (both restuarant and bar area) - always a good sign. After waiting ~5 minutes for a table, we were seated in a booth near the entrance. I doubt this place has been remodeled since it first opened. There as a gold-streaked mirrored wall on the entire right side of the restaurant. Aside from the old furnishings, the place looked pretty clean. After ordering, fresh chips and salsa (1 spicy pico and 1 blended one) were delivered to our table. Very, very tasty. Our order took 30 minutes to come to the table. We had chips to keep us company, so not the biggest of deals. The waitress appologized for the wait and repeatly came by to refill our drinks. When the food finally came: 1. Shrimp quesadillas. Typical fair. Nice and tasty with a small side of sour cream and guacamole. 2. Steak fajitas - nice cut of meat, good marinade. Side of sour cream, guac, rice, and beans (very nice whole beans that were well seasoned w/o a hint of oil or other fat). Very filling - I left with a doggy bag. All in all, this is a great neighborhood place. Good service, decent food, and a happy atmosphere. We'll be back.

Nice atmosphere, I like the full Bar area. Colorful place and very friendly staff. Food is good, kinda close to real Mexican, but still misses the real thing, but hey, we are not in Mexico!!!!

Wow, I had the BEST chicken there last week. I am on a special diet right now. Met a buddy at Casa Lupe for dinner, knowing that finding something to eat would be a challenge. I ordered the Mexicali chicken. DEEELICIOUS!!! They marinate it in lime juice. The results are a moist and tender delight! Worth a return engagement A.S.A.P.

I have two words for this place, "Never again" with two stars. It's primarily because of the Food as first and Price as second, but not Service. Service was decent from my experience. With 4 stars average on yelp, I did have some expectation going in , BUT coming out disappointed enough not go back again. However, It isn't as bad as going in with "LOW expectation" and coming out "Disappointed". So there may be some light to it. I went there with three of my friends. A friend of mine ordered Taco with beef and it actually got him wonder if he ordered "Taco with beef" or "Taco with lettuce". I ordered "Deluxe Burritos" with ground beef and it exactly came with just Burritos with ground beef with the slight hint of mash bean inside, covered by chess. And it's $7.95, and the taste was just average. Why isn't it 3 stars if it's average? Because it's average taste with above average price.

Dinner last night at Casa Lupe was a first for us in over 8 years! We were thrilled to see the larger dining area, full bar, and very friendly wait staff. Dinner was excellent - Catfish fajitas was wonderful. The fish was tender and flavorful, guacamole fresh. The Tres Colores was filling, but leftovers will make a great lunch this afternoon. Margaritas were superb! We will return!

Nice full service sit-down Mexican restaurant. The only problem was... the food was good, but not great. After trying almost all hole-in-the-wall Mexican taquerias in Sunnyvale, and experiencing the real Mexican stuff, this fell a little short. Ambiance: very nice and clean. Service: really good. Crowd: not very Mexican (only Asians and Caucasians...). see, that's where the problem lies... good service, super clean place, and no Mexicans eating there only spells one thing: not very Authentic.... Food arrived... confirmed! this place is not Mexican... but a very nicely streamlined, simplified and good tasting menu for... non Mexicans. Will probably go back if I have visitors who may not be ready for real authentic Mexican goodness.

I ordered a cheese enchilada combo to go and when I got home, it was chicken. He probably didn't hear me and I do eat chicken but I don't like it in my enchilada. The red sauce was really good, as were the beans and rice. I love how they serve plain lettuce with it...I love mixing it up in everything. The chips were pretty tasty with the pico de gallo. I wasn't a huge fan of the other salsa, it was a bit thick and sweet. I'd go back to dine in to try some other stuff.

Good Mexican, looks more popular among older people. Since they had it as special and the waiter gave me Thumbs UP, I went for the "Mole". The sauce was good, but I won't call it the "Best Mole". It didn't measure up to Fiesta Del mar (which, you can find in three locations across the Freeway from here). What was cool though " During lunch time this place looks way to popular among girls, cause the ratio was almost 80/20", That alone will make me go there again ;-)

I love Casa Lupe! When it comes to Mexican Restaurants (not burrito places...there is a difference), this is my favorite. When we have friends in town who want good mexican food or people ask us where to go for a good meal, this is one of the places we always turn to. The food is great, but to be honest, there is a ton of good mexican food in the South Bay. It is a combnation of the great food and tremendous service. Everytime we're there we feel like we're a part of the family. The waiters are so friendly and treat you like you are a guest in their home. Between myself and my friends, I can vouch for almost anything on the menu. I even tried the enchiladas with fried eggs on top and they were "money". The margaritas are awesome and go great with the food (kinda obvious). The chips and salsa pack a great punch and may contribute to the multiple rounds of "margis" (as one of the waiters calls them). If you want great mexican food and to feel like you are a part of the family, go to Casa Lupe.

I've been going to Casa Lupe since I was a little kid. Family-owned and operated. They have the best enchiladas and their fajitas are great too. I've been so spoiled by CL2 that most other Mexican restaurants I've tried are disappointments. Great service and a fun atmosphere too.

Things I like about Casa Lupe #2: -Margaritas are very good. -Service is attentive and friendly. -Food is good, no problem there Things that could be better: -Menu prices: 28.75 gets two small orders of the Shrimp tacos, which includes exactly six pieces of shrimp per order and dry, stale corn tortillas. -Bar is too noisy to hold a conversation (Hard surfaces= bad acoustics) Anyway, hubby does not want to go back. Our dinner, the aforementioned shrimp tacos, and three regular margaritas came up to 50 bucks. I thought they gave us the wrong tab. On top of that it was very loud in the bar, and it wasn't that crowded, it's just that we were seated next to a loud group on one side and the screaming baby behind us. We moved to another table. There's things I like about the place that he doesn't. I did like the shrimp tacos. It's just that I thought they might be cheaper since it was the special for that night- 8/18/09. Now, there's a misnomer. As far as the noise, we had no problem moving to another table, in the carpeted area, not in the bar. Even the waiter told us he had trouble hearing in the bar area. The place was moderately busy, so yes, there were better tables other than the initial one that they plopped us at. If they gave us the second one in the first place, another star on this review would have been added to the review.

Good food, good service. They do have the best banana margaritas on earth!! Love em!!! Their shrimp fajitas were very very good! Try them out for yourself!

My wife and I love to eat at Casa Lupe. Whenever friends come to town for a visit and ask for good Mexican food, this is where we take them. As with most great Mexican restaurants, the exterior is rather unassuming. It doesn't seem like the type of place that would have anything worth eating, but once you walk inside, it is a quaint and charming ambience. I highly recommend the Chicken Mole. It is a sweeter mole, but without being too sweet. As much as I like trying new dishes at restaurants I like, I have a hard time staying away from the mole. For dessert, get an order of bunuelos. Light and crispy, served with vanilla ice cream and caramel. The house margarita is also very tasty on the rocks.

Best Mexican food around. Great restaurant, awesome service, friendly staff. Every time we take somebody to Casa Lupe who hasn't been there before, they can't stop raving about it afterwards! It's getting to the point that we don't even bother asking visiting friends and family where they want to go eat anymore, since Casa Lupe is always their preference. Superb sangria, tasty enchiladas and a mole sauce that's out of this world make Casa Lupe a near-weekly destination.

Nice place, good service from friendly folks. Good tequila selection at the bar and the margs aren't sweet & syrupy as some are. The food was good but not great. Spices are toned down for the mostly gringo clientele which is understandable given the location.

Casa Lupe is just one of those restaurants that can be easily missed. It's located in the Safeway mall plaza by El Camino and Bernado. We decided to eat there after purchasing some yummy goodies at Sugar Butter Flour (they were right next door). Pros: The seating in the restaurant are spacious. We were promptly seated and the service is good. They brought out a salsa that's made in house as well as a very spicy red sauce. My coworker and I ate most of the chips before our food came because it was so good. I ordered a taco salad with chicken while my coworker got some carne asada soft tacos. Very large servings. While I was merely expecting a taco salad, it also comes with a large serving of refried beans, rice, and some kind of coleslaw. The food was properly spiced and I ate more than I thought I could. Similarly, the carne asada tacos were hefty. We spent the next ten minutes in almost near silence because there were so much food. Cons: I've eaten at less expensive mexican places - but in their defense, they had a lot of food! Bottom line: I'd eat there again! Good place for a group of people to have a good time.

I recently relocated to the Bay Area from Washington, DC (which lacks quality Mexican food) and I can honestly say I was pleasantly pleased with everything I had...from the chips & salsa to my main course. I had an AMAZING platter of pork carnitas. I'm used to plain/ordinary carnitas from chains like California Tortilla, but these carnitas were AWESOME. So tender and fresh. I wish I hadn't eaten all day so I could have finished the whole meal. But, I was able to take some home and enjoy later. The service was also great. I highly recommend for dinner.

Weather cold, hungry, needed something warm and filling for the holidays! Mexican food it is! not even 5 o'clock on a friday and the place is packed, always a good sign. Most typical Mexican restaurants and their combo plates are usually okay, but this was good! Service fast, chips and 2 salsas, both seemed fiery hot, but in a good way. To me a good hot is when it doesn't burn your mouth, but shortly thereafter, I start perspiring for no reason, in cold weather at that! A shot of Don Julio and a Corona cooled me off and built my appetite. Service was excellent, she was blonde, that's all I know but very pleasant and expedient. I had the tamale and chile relleno combo. I always judge a Mexican restaurant by the quality of the chile relleno or chile verde. Great relleno, hot, melty cheese, light batter. Tamale was excellent, one of the best I've had! Though typically smaller than the tamales I normally eat, due to the fact there was equal amounts of masa and pork, very flavorful and moist and the sauce was excellent. Even the beans and rice had a nice flavor, bottom line, cleaned the plate. Should have ordered a 3 combo. Prices are okay for this quality and service. I've been here several times in the past, usually inebriated at the bar but this has been the best so far. I'll be back.

My family has been going to Casa Lupe for years, at least 8-10 at this point. I have also introduced it to countless friends who now go there as well. There are a handful of Casa Lupe's in the BayArea, but the Campbell and the Sunnyvale ones are our favorites. We split our visits fairly equally between the two. They are family owned and two brothers run the Campbell and Sunnyvale ones. If they see my family or us at one, the other always hears about it and next time we go there, they will ask us why we don't come to that one as much. It's hilarious!! But yeah so there's a reason that we go to there all the time. Their food is great. Now there are diff types of Mexican in my opinion. Casa Lupe is great for serious down home old fashioned style Mexican cooking. It's not 'California Fresh' or anything like that. They don't have a focus on seafood or using healthy ingredients (though they do use olive oil to cook their beans in and not lard, I asked!), but they do make a great tamale, enchilada, quesadilla, plate of nachos, etc. Their albondigas meatball soup is very tasty but a little light on the veggies, heavier on the yummy meatballs and lots of broth. I seriously puffy-heart their tamales, and I am really picky about those because my family makes them as well. I love both the chicken and pork tamales. Rice and beans for me are a sign of whether a place is make it or break it. If a place has bad rice and beans typically I am not interested in returning. CL's rice and beans are old fashioned yummy goodness, the way Grandma makes them. If you ARE looking for something a bit more health conscious, get the chicken tacos with one tortilla only, and ask for pinto beans rather than refried. Dollop a ton of salsa on there and some lettuce and you're good to go. Oh yeah and for serious Margarita lovers, CL has a ton of diff flavors to choose from. My fave is the pink happy guava margarita. Sometimes the Sunnyvale place says they don't have it, they typically do. Definitely try it. Mango is a close second for tastiness. Service is always fast and efficient, and the plates are always piping hot (I think they warm them in the oven for a while). Overall, if you are looking for a great family style down-home Mexican food experience, definitely try Casa Lupe.

I called for a reservation for 10 and they accommodated us exactly how I hoped: they made a long table for us in the back of the bar room. I mentioned we would probably have a few more coming at some point & they said to let them know & they would add chairs/tables as needed. They were on the ball, noticing when someone new was there & immediately getting their drink order going. All the servers were great but the main waiter who is always there (not sure of his name but a much better looking version of actor Vincent Cassell) was terrific as he always is, laughing & catering to all of our needs (extra tomatoes! high chair for the kids! side of guacamole!) Food came out promptly & was delicious as usual. The best part is that even though they were closed (9:30 does seem a wee bit early for a place with a bar on a Friday night, even if it's in the middle of suburbia) they let us sit & hang out until we were good & ready to leave. They cleaned the whole place, other than our table (there were still a couple people at the bar during this time) & never said one word about us still being there. Awesome!

Shortly after I was born I made my first trip to Casa Lupe and I have been there countless times in the last 22 years. My family has no shame and we eat here nearly as much as we eat at home. I think everything they make is always fantastic. Casa Lupe caters and they can host fairly large parties in the restaurant. I had my 21st birthday here and we had a crowd of around thirty. Everyone enjoyed the festive atmosphere. I worked at a weight loss center that periodically holds classes in restaurants to show people how to order healthy food while eating out. Casa Lupe's staff was very flexible and accurate in accommodating changes to menu items.

I LOVE Casa Lupe! My family has been going there for years. The food is delicious, reasonably priced, and comes in large servings. The staff is super friendly and very helpful. Make sure you get there early on a Friday or Saturday though because it gets crowded.

I went to Casa Lupe for lunch last week and I got exactly what I was craving- a huge yummy wet burrito! The staff was very friendly and I was able to easily get a burrito without meat, even though there wasn't a vegetarian burrito on the menu. The sauce was good and I was also very happy that they didn't go overboard with the cheese, like they do at some Mexican restaurants. Compared to the other restaurants on this strip of El Camino, this place is above average. I'll definitely go here again when I am in the area, but I probably wouldn't go out of the way to eat here.

Sorry Laura, but I totally disagree with you on this one. I guess if you are a white person who is used to eating at Mexican(?) resturants such as Celias you would think Casa Lupe had really authentic mexican food. for those up us who grew up in the Mission in SF, Casa Lupe serves almost authentic Mexican food.

While working in nearby Mountain View, I've visited Casa Lupe many times. Every menu item I've tried so far has been excellent, but their mole is absolutely stellar. I order it at least every other visit. The owner came to my table once to explain how it is made - the insane number of ingredients and the crazy long hours of simmering. The result is so worth it. Casa Lupe's decor is welcoming and comfortable. The waitstaff is consistently outstanding. I'm a customer for life.

this place totally satisfied my craving for mexican! the menu seemed a little expensive, but you get huge portions for the price so really it isnt all that pricey. the place was totally packed when we got there, but even though i could tell my waiter was crazy busy, he gave us good service. the host who seated us looked like he was about 14 and his voice hadnt changed yet, which was a little strange. agreed with a previous reviewer, my margarita wasnt very strong, but it was tasty.

I've gone here multiple times in the past few years and always had a good time. The food is great, the margaritas well made, and the service has always been good. The first time I went here it was with a very large group and they did everything they could to accommodate our every need. They even let us stay late after they closed to do cake, presents and finish our drinks. I went again today for lunch and as always the service was great the food was delicious and it was everything I like about a Mexican Restaurant.

I have been to Casa Lupe several times for dinner. Each time the restaurant seems to be filled with people who know each other and the staff. The owner is always out seating people, stopping by each table to chat and generally making sure everything is ok. The food is always hot, very good and I leave stuffed. The margaritas are a requirement. As others have said, the chips taste fresh-made and you get two kinds of salsa to try out with them. The staff isn't afraid to get creative. One evening I was craving Mexican food from San Diego. I asked if they could make shredded beef enchiladas in red sauce with a fried egg on top. The waiter seemed glad for a challenge and brought it right out. I think the food is comparable to many other Mexican places. What keeps me coming back is that this is obviously a local restaurant where people stop by a couple tables to talk on the way to being seated and the owner is giving everything his personal attention.

This place is great for some good homemade mexican food. My friend and I started going here a few months ago and now we go atleast every two weeks! If you go, definitely get their california carne asada enchaladas (I get mine with cheese inside too). It comes with a ton of rice, beans, sour cream and guac and is AMAZING. The place gets busy but that's only becuase they are so good. Everyone that works there is very nice too. I would highly recommend this place.

My fiance and I just went here for lunch. I wouldn't say it was the best, but it probably ranks #2 after Tlaquepaque. The chips are really, really good. The salsa didn't seem hot at first, but it slowly built momentum after a while (yum!). Our orders came quickly. I had the tamale with rice and beans ($7.45 at lunch). My fiance had shredded beef enchiladas. Both were good. What stood out to me was the service. Our waiter was very nice. When we were finished, the owner came by and asked if everything was okay. I noticed he did that to all the tables. We didn't have to wait for our check either. A good place to go on lunch, no wait for table, food or check.

My favorite mexican restaurant in the South Bay has to be Casa Lupe in Sunnyvale, CA. Please be aware, there is another Casa Lupe on Castro St. in Downtown Mountain View -- but it doesn't even compare to the one on Bernardo Ave. in Sunnyvale! The restaurant is owned by a friendly old guy who walks around the restaurant, speaking with customers and making sure everything's going well. The second you walk in, you get a satisfying feeling of eating at a homestyle, mom-and-pop joint that serves delicious mexican food and retains its natural, family charm. They also have a good bar, which serves a beer margarita called a Chevela (with Negro Modelo and lime juice) that truly can't be missed. This may not be the best mexican food I've ever had, but it's definitely got the whole package. The moment you step into the festively-decorated restaurant, you'll feel like you've teleported to Mexico.

The food is good. The service is excellent. All of the waiters are super nice. And a friend who is usually disappointed with any mole that isn't made by his mom, really likes it here.

Came here to dinner last night after we had gotten our taxes done so you know I was down for a few drinks. The service staff is very friendly and they move quick! I enjoyed my mango and cranberry margaritas. The salsa was good, nice and spicy. I ordered the mole beef enchilada and enjoyed the mole. The food was hot and the shredded beef was good. This restaurant has a nice ambiance to it and the prices were reasonable.

I basically grew up here - they know what my whole family orders. Casa Lupe is what I compare all other Mexican food to. No one has a better red sauce. NO ONE. The best enchiladas. Rocky's tostada is an avocado lover's dream....really, there is no where else to eat in Sunnyvale, except Casa Lupe.

Friendly staff. When we went, it was packed. Some of the staff commented that they've never seen it so busy. The chile relleno whooped my taste-buds' asses. My taste buds are still trying to figure out what the hell happened. I also had a chicken taco. Quite good! As I was eating it, I remember thinking "this is what a taco should be." Of course, it's a fried shell, but at the same time there was a freshness to it. The meat was cooked to the point of deliciousness, not undercooked, but not dry. The lettuce and cheese tasted good as well. The rice and beans were wonderful. The margaritas kicked my ASS. Seriously. Not only tasty, but also adequately strong. I ordered mine with Sauza Hornitos, and I enjoyed it immensely. Not an uber cheap place to eat, but not too expensive. After two margaritas each, and one dinner each (for two people) it came to about $50. Well worth it if you're in the mood for good mexican food.

Really 4 1/2 Stars. Here is a real find. Great Mexican food, very reasonable prices and a good bar too! Great albondigas soup - very different than you get in a typical Americanized Mex Restaurant. The broth tastes like chicken, yet it's very light. The veggies are nearly crisp and the meatballs are very flavorful. Oh, by the way... although the broth is very light, the flavor of oregano and cuminos is all over. Very, very good and it's always on the menu. My wife loves the chicken enchiladas with Suizza; she's very particular about her poultry and they haven't missed yet Ask for all white maeat and that's what you get. I'm partial to the chicken mole and the chili verde. Both are great. If you're looking for an upscale restaurant you won't find it here, BUT if you want great service with a smile and a neighborhood Mexican place that's family friendly, this is it. It lost 1/2 star because the menu never has any specials, so I have to go back to the great standbys.

  • Darren Z.

I've been going here for 4+ years and it's always consistently great, the food, the drink and especially the service are fantastic. The chips and salsa are certainly the stars that really start things off right and go great with a margarita or a very cold beer. The gringo Mexican food is great and I would certainly suggest the burittos, enchalidas or the tacos, can't go wrong with any of these. All in all, you can't go wrong with this place, if there is one suggestion, you might consider having the chips and a cocktail before ordering your main course as the kitchen is sometimes too efficient, but that can be a benefit if you are tight on time for lunch.

Completely average Mexican food with good service. I called for take out and they were super nice and said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I zip home and open a tray of food big enough to fit a frozen lasagna. However, my chicken chimichanga with rice and beans was cold, and the slaw that came with it was kind of a sickly color. I don't know how it could have gotten cold so fast but it was, which is a real disappointment. I asked for no salsa, so they gave me two containers of it. So next time I will ask for no guacamole and see if I score big. They're also kinda pricey for takeout (13.50 plus tax for my meal). While I was there I noticed they have a full bar and mariachi, which is kind of weird because the place really isn't big enough for strolling mariachi, in my opinion.

This place is always hopping, because it makes reliable, consistent, solid Tex-Mex food for folks with mild tastes. We have been going here for about 8 years, and during that time the food has gotten better while the service has remained unfailingly friendly and attentive. Reasonable prices for the large portions. If you're a sports person, there are TVs in every corner so you can watch the game.

For lunch, I had the crab enchiladas, my wife had the shrimp tacos, and my 3 year-old daughter got a cheese quesadilla. The food was quite good. My daughter said "Next time we come here, I'm going to order this again!". We got strawberry and cranberry margaritas. They were quite sweet, and not too strong. The chips and salsa (3 varieties) were also quite yummy. We'll definitely be back.

***** THINGS HAVE CHANGED ****** I used to be a big fan.. the prices went up.. portions down, chips are no longer made on site (they're bagged and heated - they taste like bits of cardboard).. It's always packed.. I couldn't believe how much things had changed in just a short 3 months. Prices went up by almost $2 per plate.

This is our local Mexican food hangout. Service is always awesome, margaritas are strong. The have the best mole sauce ever! They are always hoppin' on Friday and Saturday nights. Oh, the food always arrives piping hot! The plates are like 800°, no kidding!

We went to the SugarButterFlour next door to look at options for our kid's BDay cake, initially we were skeptical about the place but decided to try it anyhow. We walked inside and there was fun atmosphere all around, everyone had a big smile on their faces.... When the Chips and Salsa came in - I had only one word floating through my head --- Wow !!! Chips were crisp and fresh, Salsa was super spicy - which is how I like it! Food was great and though they do not have a kids menu, they are willing to customize their dishes for kids - which is a huge plus for me.

I love this place! The food is plentiful and delicious and always served soon after you order it. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. Anyone will serve you if they see you need anything - they are one big family. I love to take my family there because it's loud enough that you don't feel you are annoying everyone if you want to have a conversation or your kid is acting up. My favorite item is the chicken taco plate, but everything I have ever had has been fabulous! They do excellent catering, too.

My husband and I work relatively close by and we go there at least one a month. Their food is absolutely delicious. I haven't ordered anything off the menu that I didn't like. Not to mention the stellar service by the staff! :) They are always warm and friendly. My sodas are always refilled without asking. Quite frankly I don't know of anyone who doesn't like this place. Hands down the best Mexican restaurant in the bay area.

I eat a lot of Mexican food, and I used to think Celia was one of my faves, but this place is better. I love the decor (reminds me of one of the Los Cabos restaurants) and the food is just soooo good. There is no American influence, it's pretty authentic. If you want to try tasty Mexican food, this is the place to go!

We ate here because of the reviews on YELP, and they're right about the verde sauce - VERY GOOD! I got the veggie burrito (which had cheese, even though we asked for no cheese)... Overall very good, and open later than 9!! Good for us. Will eat here again! Beware, both the salsas are hot!

I went here based on the high ratings and reviews on Yelp. It did not disappoint, and it's actually on our list to go back. This is the only Mexican place in the South Bay I've found so far that I look forward to going back to. UPDATE: Went back with a few other friends, we all ended up getting a mole enchilada among other things, and they all tasted too much like a chocolate candy bar -too much sugar!! UPDATE: I know I'm starting to waffle here, but I think I've gone to Casa Lupe #2 for the last time. My boyfriend and I went here last weekend, and the food was really disappointing. Their verde sauce is weird - it's bright green, and I don't think it has actual tomatillos in it (there are no seeds, and you can't really de-seed a tomatillo very easily). It was all pretty bland, and a little processed tasting. My bf didn't like his food either - the chicken wasn't very good. However, we both thought the beans were pretty good.

I will be thanking Ms. Katrina for this fabulous recommendation and for being such a fun dinner date. Folks, this place is fantastic. Here's the run down. Service: Is friendly and warm. You will certainly feel at home when you enter through the wooden doors. The colorful decor adds to the boisterous crowd that dine here. Ms. Katrina is a frequent diner here, so I thought we would get the royal treatment. But no, they treat everyone royally. Food: I wish I was a cow. Because one stomach will not do here. At least two stomachs for the generous portions Casa Lupe offers. I ordered the Carne Asada plate and my steak was cooked to perfection! Seriously folks. I could have shared my plate with a small village in China. Price: Reasonable for the portions you get. Like I said, I could feed a village for $16 dollars. Or at least three small stomachs worth. This place is a gem. I will be back here again and again and again. DAMN YOU KATRINA! If my wedding dress doesn't fit by September, YOU ARE TO BLAME!

We've been going to eat here for 25 yrs. The chips and salsa are always fresh, guacamole is great, our favorite dishes are the same quality as they've been since we started going. We did take out for a few years when the kids were young, and always the same quality. It is noisy, but you can talk and hear the person across the table from you so it's not so bad. I love the Chicken Mole, Enchiladas Montadas, and Chicken enchiladas. My wife loves the Enchiladas Suiza. We've just never had anything bad here that we would not recommend to friends, and when they've tried it they liked it! My wife's uncle lives in S. San Jose but two of his last 3 birthdays he's insisted we take him there.

Such a cute, family-oriented place. I ordered the nachos from the appetizer menu and they were the most nicely presented plate of nachos I've ever had. Our server, a taller male gentleman, was very kind to us. I had a cranberry margarita which wasn't the most amazing, but unique and tasty. I love energetic, fun atmospheres where you feel like part of the family- this place is it!

Tried it as it was the best rated Mexican restaurant in Sunnyvale. Menu had typical tex-mex fare and not much authentic food. We ordered the fish tacos and the chimichanga and both lacked flavor. They were very mediocre. If this is the best in Sunnyvale then I think I'll try my luck somewhere else....

Wow I have been looking for a home style Mexican Resturant. Happiness in Salsa, Marg, service is great. Value for your money. I would come back again.

My husband, daughter and I had dinner there last Saturday. It was delicious. The service was great, the chips and salsas were plentiful and delicious. Dinner came and we were all very happy with our meals. Everything was excellent and we would highly recommend this restaurant. We'll be back again and again.

3.5 stars ... I rounded up because of the service. Let's just say the name Casa Lupe #2 and the location don't instill high expectations for your dining experience. I know there's hidden gems in strip malls out there that will blow my mind if I ever find them, but in general, sequel restaurants in dubiously lit and non-descript strip malls in Sunnyvale don't energize my tastebuds. Maybe that's why Casa Lupe did so well. I went in expecting a really shady or boring experience (*ahem* Casa Azteca *ahem*). Walk inside, and it's definitely a fun atmosphere with locals happily chatting, sipping margaritas, and scooping up salsa. The service is the best thing about this place. From the minute we walked in to the minute we left, everyone who worked there had big smiles on their faces and were very attentive. The food? Ehh, it's kind of basic. Not bad, but then not very imaginative either. I had some enchiladas with two eggs cracked over them. Tasty, but very common. The salsas are fairly mediocre. All in all, though I liked what I got and had great service, I don't know if I'd go back again.

SO SO GOOD. The menu had so many items to chose from it took me forever to chose. I was with a friend who had been going there for years and everyone knew him which was kind of cool and they were super chill. I wish they were open on Sundays though since that's pretty much the only time I'm in the area. Prices are pretty decent and they give plenty of food. I wasn't thrilled about the quesadilla (i've made better) and I asked for a chicken one and it was plain cheese. The enchiladas were great and thats why I love going out for mexican food.

I was skeptical about coming here because it's Number 2 and not Number 1, but since my friend was having his birthday dinner here, I was obliged to show up. Overall - great food for a reasonable price! Big portions too! The chips were nice and fresh and the salsa was super-spicy, even for me, who normally enjoys spicy food. Our waiter was also super-nice. He brought out one extra soup and since nobody had ordered it, he just gave it to us. Would definitely come here again if I'm in the area.

I've been to this place over a dozen times, and I almost always get the same things. Their nacho appetizer, half chicken, half beef, with no sour cream. All their meals are huge, and these nachos are more than enough. But if you're not into nachos, they have a huge selection of delicious Mexican entrees. The place is family owned, which means the service and quality is always high, and you're supporting actual people instead of an evil corporation (not that I'm against evil corporations). I don't think its a great first-date place, but it is good for birthdays and other large-group occasions.

this is my FAVORITE sit down, homestyle Mexican food place. I usually get something with steak. Enchiladas, Quesadillas, Fajitas. All of them A++ Owner and his son and nephews are very personal and have excellent customer service!

They have decent Mexican Food Here, but service is terrible, and it is overpriced. I spent over $12 for a bean & cheese burrito to go. It took over 20 minutes just to get my order placed. It took another 20 minutes for my bean & cheese burrito to go. Its always like that I have been there several times. The last time I left after waiting for over 15 minutes to get my to go order placed. If you call, they almost never answer the phone. Sometimes they randomly close. I like their Frijoles, but finally got tired of the service/high price.

This place was PACKED on a Friday night. There were a few large parties that took up a lot of tables but when we checked in with the host he said it would be 20-25 minutes to wait. I know they can't really control how quick people eat and when they decide to leave after their meal, however, we waited for almost an hour to be seated. I think they should tell their customers more realistic numbers for waiting time (although I can understand that this may cause people to leave). Things improved since we were seated! I ordered a margarita on the rocks and it was a decent size, very delicious and quite strong for 5.95. The free chips and 2 salsas were delicious we (my husband and I) almost ate the whole basket (although we were REALLY hungry at this point!). The main entrees were HUGE, most dinners come on a huge plate with rice and beans and toppings The food was really delicious and we had enough leftovers to feed us the next night. Our bill came to about $45 for 2 entrees, 2 margaritas and an arnold palmer - not too bad! The ambiance is pretty fun and all of the other people there was having a good time. Service was good, nothing special, but not bad. Overall a great place to eat and enjoy a few drinks! Will be returning when craving Mexican food!

This has been a family favorite for more than 10 years. We know the owner, he always has some top shelf tequila sent to my dad when we come eat here. All the ingredients are delicious. Very authentic. I could list everything I've had, but no matter what you get you can't go wrong. The service is great, all the servers are family and everyone is extremely sweet. It's been a while since I've been here, I must go back soon!

Coming from a family who cooks Mexican food at get togethers, I have become very picky and judgmental when it comes to any type of fast food/restaurant Mexican. Casa Lupe is one of the few places I have come to enjoy without any real gripes From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a younger fellow or I believe the owner's wife. Both very friendly individuals. Almost as soon you you are seated chips and two different types of salsa are brought out and soon after that you are greeted by your server all of whom are VERY friendly people. There is plenty to choose from, but being the person of habit I am I always stick with the two soft taco combo with steak, rice, and beans. The servers are very attentive filling empty cups and empty chip dishes very quickly and the food always comes out in a timely manner and cooked to order. The only two things I did not like was the cheese gets put on the hot plate, so it is almost all melted when it gets to your table and they could put a little more sour cream and guacamole. The reason for my 4 stars was the pricing on food. YES the food is always delicious and the service is ALWAYS awesome, the prices are a little steep. $15 for my regular plate with just two steak tacos, rice and beans. Other than that Casa Lupe is always a restaurant myself, friends and family always look forward to going to!

3.5 stars. When my boyfriend and I walked in on Friday night, we were encouraged by the fact that this place was packed. Still, we only had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Noise-level was on the moderate-high side, but that didn't really bother me. The ambiance/decor was really nice--it felt like a warm, welcoming, neighborhood sit-down Mexican place. Our server, the young man hosting, and the rest of the staff were super friendly and helpful. Chips were okay, and chunky salsa had a nice kick. I ordered a beer, but later wished that I had margarita because it looked like at least one was being consumed at every other table. I had a beer and chicken tamale. The tamale was dressed in red sauce and cheese, and it was pretty good. My boyfriend got the Plato Tres Colores, which included a beef enchilada, cheese enchilada, and chicken enchilada w/ verde sauce. Both my boyfriend and I thought the beef one was unpleasant, so it remained uneaten. The chicken one was pretty good. The cheese one was gone before I could taste it. I love refried beans, and I definitely ate my share of them. Overall, I thought the food was pretty solid. Still, I'll be continuing my quest for the perfect Mexican restaurant. I might come back if I'm jones-ing and haven't found the perfect one yet.

Friendly. Tasty, but mainstreamed flavors. Filling! Rob, Scott & I hit Casa Lupe 2 for lunch today. Big space in a big strip mall. The menu is somewhat limited, and the place has an outdated ambiance to it. That being said, the manager, waiter, and staff were all very friendly, the chicken burrito was gargantuan-sized, and the food tasted good. The seasonings seemed to be toned down for more mainstream tastes with one exception - the salsas were super hot. I made it about 85% of the way through the burrito before I gave up in sated satisfaction....

I've been going here for years. I remember going here before they moved to their current location of the Cherry Chase Center. This family owned restaurant is a great place to be. The service is great and the people are very friendly. Depending on the waiter he kjnows my drink before I order. One drink I still have yet to try are their Sangira's. My mother-in-law says they are very good and that's what she usually gets. As for me I always order my mango margarita with Don Julio Silver. My favorite dish is still the enchilada montatdas. I must warn you, if you are very hungry and haven't been here before, don't eat too much of the chips and salsa. The platters are big and you just might be too full to start on your lunch or dinner.

When I asked my mom where she wanted to go for Mother's Day, she chose Casa Lupe. I had never been here, but my parents have been going here for lunch 20 odd years, and at least once a month for the last 10+ years. If I were to review this location purely on my experience (without my parents added in), I'd probably just have given the place 4 stars (which really, is still pretty darn good). I got the enchiladas California. Just simple cheese enchiladas with sour cream and guacamole. Nothing fancy but totally yummy. The chips and salsa were fine, but not my favorite. The wait was probably the longest I have ever waited in any Mexican restaurant, which really, wasn't terribly long, but compared to the regular extremely fast service you usually find in Mexican places, seemed to take forever. The server was very nice, and my water was always refilled before I had had half of it. I had fried ice cream for dessert (who in the world thought that up?!). So all, in all, a fine experience, but nothing out of this world. A solid 4 stars. But let's not forget that my parents were with me and have been going here forever. The waiter knew exactly what they wanted, and probably only needed to actually come take our order because I was there and threw him off. He knew that they needed extra napkins (my dad had a stroke about 11 years ago, and is paralyzed on the right half of his body--makes for messy eating). After the food got to our table and my mom was cutting up my dad's burrito (you can't cut up your own food if only one of your hands works), our waiter happened to be walking by to another table. He let her know that in the future, just to let him know if she would like them to cut it up in the back, and they would be happy to take care of it for them. They had a number of other exchanges that just made me so incredibly happy to see how they treated my parents (who, though I love them, can be a bit trying at times). The people here obviously love what they do, they care about their customers and it makes a big difference. That little personal touch is fantastic. I am glad to know that my parents are so well taken care of when they go out to lunch. :)

Everyone is here is very friendly and meals come quick. The food is tasty although nothing spectacular. I love the fact that there are two salsa's to choose from and are served with yummy chips. I always order the same thing when going there-Cheese Enchilada and Beef Taco. Both rock! Although with this location, I also enjoy going to the downtown Los Altos location. There really is no difference between them.

For a few years, I have patronized the Casa Lupe in Los Altos and just discovered their Sunnyvale location. Last minute, a friend and I decided to have dinner and wanted Mexican cuisine in the Cupertino, Sunnyvale area. With the help of Yelp, I found Casa Lupe 2 in Sunnyvale. The service was good (Not stellar since my water wasn't refilled), but 5 stars since I left my credit card and didn't 'discover it until the next afternoon. I called and they had my credit card! The food was great as usual. Good atmosphere. Excellent Sangrias too!

This place is average at best. I ordered the red chicken enchilada and beef taco combo plate. The taste of the food was alright, I had better. If people think that's the best enchilada they have ever eaten, I really feel sorry for them. People have real low standards when it comes to eating good mexican food. The cost of their food is pretty expensive for something average.

My husband introduced me to Casa Lupe, he had been going there for years with his dad. We have been to both locations many of times. The service there is great. It is family owned and operated. Food is delivered hot and fast. The taquitos and chimigango? spelled wrong, are excellent. My 14 month old even loves the food, he likes the tamales, which are out of this world. To top it all off , order a Mango Margarita and Fried Ice Cream .... I have never had any complaints here , and I have been eating here for 5 years. :) I also work next door at Sugar Butter Flour, so stop in and say HI :)

The food is fine. I don't really hate it or love it (except the chips, which are delicious--I usually fill up on them before the food comes). But I do like coming to this place because it feels authentic and the atmosphere is great. Also there is a cute waiter who is probably too old for me, but he is very polite and good looking nonetheless.

clearly this place is for people who like bland and reheated mexican food. sorry not for me. my enchiladas didn't have any flavor and they were expensive! wtf?? the only thing i like was the agua de horchata. aside from that this place is lame!

I love this place!!!! This family run enterprise really knows about customer service. Everybody working here is super-friendly and makes you feel like part of the family. Not to mention that they are hustling their butts off! I've been coming here for about 8 years now and have never once been disappointed in the food or the service. My favorite thing on the menu is the Shrimp Quesadillas.....outstanding! I also like their Chorizo Enchiladas

I have been going to Casa Lupe for over 8 years and I have never ordered anything that I did not like (and I have tried most of thier menu by now). I bring friends and family here all the time and they love it too. Try the guacamole -- it is homemade and truely awesome! You will always be greeted with a smile and if you have a special request - no problem - they will accomodate you! My favorites are the beef enchiladas, the chile verde, shrimp fajitas and the chimicanga. The margaritas are TO DIE FOR and they have a full bar. Don't forget dessert - try the homemade flan, fried ice cream covered in chocolate or cinnimon/honey heavenly banuelos... There is another location in Campbell that is awesome too. (The Sunnyvale and Campbell locations are run by one family and are great. I DON'T recommend the Mt. View or Los Altos Casa Lupe restaurants - had bad experieces at both in the past) If you are looking for mexican food that is plentiful, yummy and served with a smile, look no further than Casa Lupe.

A masseuse in training & I met for lunch @ Casa Lupe (on Bernardo Ave) today. The mole' was yumms!...made with all white chicken meat (& no skin or fatty pieces). I'll hafta try the Fiesta Del Mar ones to compare. Yes, their chips taste like cardboard bits... always byo bottle of Hot Latin Brown.... going back soon to try their Sangrias... goes best with Hot Latin Brown too. Definitely bring your own masseuse.

Not the best Mexican food that I've had, but by far the best that I can find in this area. The people that work here definitely make the visit worthwhile. The food is definitely above average, but it's still not fabulous or anything. I like to go mostly for the shrimp quesadilla. It is sooooo good. It consists of shrimp, cheese, and tomatoes which are sauteed in white wine. And of course everything is wrapped up in a flour tortilla. So yummy! It's worth at least one visit to see if you might like it.

Ugh! Ok, I just got back from having lunch at this place and I cannot see how it got soo many positive reviews...First of all, the service was super fast and very friendly - no problems there. The food however - mucho problemas! I ordered the chile verde chimichanga with rice and beans and my lunch buddy ordered the veggie burrito. My chimichanga was mostly tortilla, with a few pieces of tasteless pork inside...rice and beans were very unremarkble as well. Veggie burrito was tasteless, even after heaping on lots of salsa over it. I ordered a burrito to go (when we placed our original order)for a co-worker and it was $9.40! On hindsight I should have just picked her up something on the way back to the office. So total for my chimichanga w/rice and beans, a veggie burrito, and one burrito to go (we drank water)? Just over $30 w/tip!! Hay caramba!! Overall a very bland and expensive experience - I would mos' def' not be back

Last night, after reading the raves about this place, we decided to give it a try. I ordered the Chimichanga with a side order of chili relleno. My wife ordered their enchilada suiza dinner. I do not understand how anybody could call this good Mexican food. The Chimichanga was a large flour tortilla that was filled (I use the term loosely) with a little bit of pork and re-fried beans. There was a token amount of sour cream and guacamole on top. Whenever I've ordered Chimichangas before, they've been fried. I've never had a more disappointing Chimichanga before. I'm unable to digest beans and I'm suffering for it today. The chili relleno was better but also a disappointment. In my opinion, a poblano chili should have its seeds and membrane removed before cooking. The enchilada dinner also was disappointing. There was some unknown flavor in the sauce that was off-putting in. These items should be a no-brainer, and we'll never go back. Too bad, because there were a lot of customers. For many years we've been going to El Calderone in Mountain View and while its got its problems (small portions of their lingua), it's very consistent. Their Chimichanga is orders of magnitude better. Their super buritto deluxe, likewise. As stated earlier, while tasty, their lingua was too skimpy.

I was very disappointed with Casa Lupe No. 2. I am on a mission to find the best Mexican food in Sunnyvale since my boyfriend moved there a couple months ago. I decided to go here after seeing them on yelp. We went there on a Friday night. The service was very bad, especially for a the prices. First of all, no one even acknowledged us for like ten minutes. There were multiple tables and booths open, yet there were 3 different groups of people waiting to be seated. I saw they were putting together a couple of tables for a large party, but they shouldn't have penalized the smaller groups and made them wait so long in the meantime. A simple "be right with you" would have also been nice. I ordered the carnitas - the flavor was good, but the meat was very dry. My boyfriend ordered the shredded beef enchiladas - also very dry. Our waiter never came back except to give us the check, although they did have a girl filling water and chips. The one positive is that the salsa was very good. Maybe just come here to sit at the bar and have a beer with chips and salsa. The plate of food was not that good, and over $12. I will not be going back here again.

I live near this place, and my boyfriend and I were in the mood for Mexican food one night, so we decided to try it. It was packed with people on a Thursday night. I was surprised to see how happening it was, since it didn't look it from the outside. We now come here at least twice a month. We love it! My boyfriend says it's one of the best Mexican restaurants he's ever eaten at, and I have to agree. I always crave their carne asada chimichangas, and my boyfriend's a huge fan of their enchiladas. Also, try their Fiesta tostadas. They're like the huge fried tortilla bowl taco salads. Yummy!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
