Boyfriend and I were in Japantown for lunch..unfortunately many of the stores are closed on Sundays, so we stopped here and after peeking at the reviews, we decided to drop in. Got the teri-dog (love 'japanese' hot dogs), and boyfriend got the Jim Bowl (bowl of rice with chili, hot dog slices, kimchi, topped with fritos). Man, that was good, our only issue was that there were too many hot dog slices! Yeah..first world problem. Afterwards we had to get the mochi ice cream (minimum order is a set of three). I ordered chocolate peanut butter (ok), strawberry dark chocolate chip (yummm), and frangelico (this was so buttery and flavorful!). The owner and lady are very nice and helpful. Great service. Will be back again to try more flavors..or just order more of the frangelico mochi.

Cute dessert place that reminds me of Hawaii- mainly because they sell Furikaki snacks and Bubbies ice cream, which are hard to find on the mainland. Standard prices for ice cream, Bubbies are sold in sets of 3 for $5. The mochi ice cream is a little harder than what you get in Hawaii right when you get it so have to wait a bit, understandably since it is being shipped from so far. But they do offer the unique flavors like dark chocolate strawberry and not just the typical vanilla and chocolate flavors. There are 3 tiny round tables inside and 2 outside for seating.

This place is legit because as far as I know this is the only place in SJ that carries bubbies straight from Hawaii. Although they are on the pricier side per bubby , but the quality definitely worth the $$. First time I went here I couldn't help myself but order a bunch of different flavored bubbies, but now that I have tried almost all of the flavors I just find myself being a sucker for their green tea and mango bubbies. The nice thing too is that they last for quite a few days in your fridge. I prefer fridge to the freezer because I don't like the hard consistency of the bubbies once coming out from the freezer. I like my bubbies a bit more chewy and creamier if that makes sense. Their macaroons are pretty decent too, but still definitely prefer the cute little shop in Stanford. Overall, this is the place to go for bubbies and what's even better is you can get these guys after having a nice sushi dinner somewhere near by.

This is my new favorite bakery and San Jose Japantown destination! The baked goods are amazing (I love the matcha krispy!) and the mochi ice cream is definitely something to try. I'm excited to try the other ice cream as well. They also have food - hot dogs/rice bowls that I'm going to try for lunch. Overall, this is probably one of the best places to visit in the area. You won't be disappointed.
(5)Flora M.
They accept credit cards now!
(5)Minako S.
YUM! Any chance I have, I go to Jimbo's to get my mochi ice cream fix! The skin is soft and chewy and the inside is sweet and creamy. I like the lychee flavor especially, but all the other flavors are great too!
(5)Kim L.
I've visited Jimbo's a few times now since the grand opening, and with every visit I love this place more and more. They offer an array of unique and creative gourmet hotdogs that you can't get anywhere else, in addition to rice bowls and fun dessert and snack options. The place is clean, friendly and brightly decorated, with both indoor and outdoor seating. I had the Jimbo Roll which is a thick, juicy hotdog, wrapped in rice with pickled vegetables, wrapped in nori, and drizzled with a delicious spicy cream sauce. It was, in a word, amazing. The rice krispie treats are generous in portion and taste fresh and, most importantly, buttery and delicious. I also recommend the Dale 'n' Chip Sampler, which allows you to select any 5 flavors of their (so good) Marianne's ice cream to enjoy. Opt for the black sesame sauce for an additional $0.85. You won't regret it! Jimbo's is family-owned and run by very friendly and helpful people. It's a great addition to Japantown's current offerings and I hope to visit often and continue to see it thrive. My only complaint is that it's not open all day, everyday!
(5)Karen M.
I went to Jimbo's expecting a delicious grilled hot dog but was surprised to find that it was microwaved. Nothing is made or cooked to order. The onions were precooked and placed on top of a cold hotdog and bun. Chili is scooped on top and the entire thing is microwaved. I think i can do better at home. Also, the online ad and Facebook indicates that French macarons are sold there. Well, it is no longer available, so I suggest that advertising the fact French macarons are available be removed from their site. That is false advertising. If you read the Yelp reviews, 4-5 stars are given based on the fact of the greatness of Bubbies mochi ice cream. I am giving Jimbo's 2 stars based on the hotdogs...what I believe the main thrust of the restaurant is...otherwise, get a Bubbies franchise.
(2)Sadie F.
Yay for Bubbies! Lilikoi is awesome and so is the chocolate peanut butter flavors. I would like it to be a tiny bit more frozen for later consumption!
(4)elise r.
Come here almost every Sunday! the ice cream sampler is bomb!
(5)Mai T.
Yum!! Their mochi ice cream is delicious. Strawberry was my favorite. On two separate occasions, i came and they were closed. I believe they are closed on Tuesdays.
(4)Vanessa D.
I love the bubbies "from Hawaii"-mochi ice cream, my favorite flavor is mango. The ice cream selection might be small but they have good flavors. I will definitely go back.
(5)Emily H.
Ever since summer started, I've wanted to go back just for the mochi. LYCHEE MOCHI! Why don't you exist in places other than here?! I will continue to come back here just for that. It is too good.
(5)Lauren A.
This place was great! Came in to try some mochi. We were greeted by a very welcoming staff with free samples of their pastries and ice cream. We ended up with strawberry and chocolate peanut butter mochi and a chocolate chip cookie. Both were delicious! Great vibe here as well. I also noticed they serve rice bowls and hot dogs. Fun evening snack? They are still in their soft opening and will be having their grand opening in a few weeks. Will be back!
(5)Marissa G.
Bubbies from Hawaii! Best Mochi around!
(5)Liss A.
Yum! The Mochi Ice Cream is delish! Pistachio flavor is definitely my favorite! Yummy green tea rice crispy treat!
(5)Miss M.
Please please come here for the mochi. It is so freaking delicious for a hot summer day you just wanna pop those things in your mouth! My favorite out of all would be CHOCOLATE COCONUT. MMMM
(5)A. L.
i wish their mochi ice cream was a little softer, but it makes up for it with their unique flavors. My favorite so far is their pistachio and watermelon (which is a seasonal flavor).
(5)LuvFood S.
They have Marianne's ice cream!!! However, I was saddened to learn Cherry Burgundy is only available in large containers for take home. They need to serve that by the scoop! I'll be back to try the mochi another time. It's a nice local spot and expect it to be busy as soon as the weather really warms up. Nice place for an after dinner dessert or to satisfy a late night craving.
(3)Victoria L.
Green tea was great! the price is a bit expensive though
(4)Humuhumunukunukuapua'a F.
Super cute shop and yummy dogs and bowls. Ice cream mochi is sometimes sold out, but I can see why. They're ridiculously delicious. I come here about once a month when I'm in J-Town. I took off one star because it's a bit expensive and service can be a little on the slow side IMHO but I'm never really too much in a hurry. I do love that it's family owned and operated and Japanese/Asian American actor tributes like George Tekai and Kristi Yamaguchi.
(4)Jay N.
Bubbies! That's the only thing I get here. Usually I get three flavors, and they're gone before i even get back into my car. If you like the mochi ice creams that they sell in a box at the asian supermarkets or TJ's, you definietly need to have some Bubbies in your life.
(4)Willis W.
Clean, modern, lively, and super friendly staff make this a great place for a dessert, snack or even a meal (Looking forward to trying the JTown Hot Dog with a beer!). This day, we came for the baked goods... and got a truly unique marshmellow pop, chewy-yet-complex Macha green tea rice crispy treat, and sweet-tangy slice of Meyer lemon cake. Unlike big chain coffee shops which sell baked goods way too big and sweetened, these are baked goods of practical portion that you can serve to your kids in good conscience - made with love by a mom! Check it out now.
(5)Vivian D.
Come here for assorted flavored ice cream mochi, ice cream, macarons, and other variety of desserts! I think they also have a couple beer selections, too, to go with their food-food menu (hot dogs, rice bowls).
(4)my r.
My husband ordered the mochi - mango, peanut butter and strawberry - it was all good! I ordered the ice cream and that was great too. Price fair. Nice little local joint to support and get your mochi fix. Customer service was just ok. Nothing bad nor spectacular hence the minus 1 star.
(4)Kristina N.
So glad I found this place! They have theee best cookies. I got their choco chip and pumpkin choco chip cookies which were super moist and practically melted in my mouth! I also really enjoyed their strawberry, mango, and guava Bubbles mochi ice cream. Great desserts and wonderful staff, I'll definitely stop on in whenever I'm in the area.
(5)Jen D.
some girlfriends and I were uncomfortably full after a feast at Omogari when suddenly we saw a sign in a window... "OH MY GOD THEY HAVE BUBBIES" ...nuff said. just kidding. not really. but seriously! the staff is super friendly and i loved the george takei tribute decor. i also loved that they serve marianne's, i support local & independent businesses whenever i can. their homemade pastries are delicious--i'm not a huge macaron fan but the green tea ones here are awesome!
(4)Rose F.
Great service beats their inventory!
(5)Sdmomma R.
Hello they have mochi ice cream how can you go wrong?! They also have ice cream from Marianne's which is this awesome place in Santa Cruz. Really cute place and the owners a super nice.
(5)Holly Y.
Mmmmm mochi ice cream! I love it! My friends and I got many different flavors but our favorite is definitely the Strawberry and Green tea! As for the other flavors, they were okay...could have been better, however, if you're craving for mochi ice cream, Jimbo's is the place to go!
(4)Maria N.
Make sure you come here and get the mochi ice cream. SO so so delicious. When biting into it, i was expecting it to be tough and hard as ice, but it was very soft. The staff is very friendly and humorous. They also sell other foods also, but i have not really looked into them. I think they also sell alcohol. They pretty sell random stuff but highly recommend getting mochi ice cream. It is a family owned business, and i hope they do excel!
(4)t c.
Besides the Bubbies being fabulous, extremely friendly and kind service. Can't ask for much more. Looks like it'll be a weekly outing!!!!
(5)Evalyn P.
Very tasty mochi, we had green tea, pumpkin and passion fruit all were a tasty frozen treat.
(3)Chloe H.
Wide selection of Mochi flavors. Tried their ice cream, love it. Will be back!
(4)Catherine T.
i got 3 pieces of mochi. very expensive. not bad but nothing extraordinary either. i wouldn't have been able to tell the difference from the box you buy at supermarket.
(3)Kenji F.
Great ice cream and cookies. We've been here several times since they opened and have not been disappointed.
(4)Sarah C.
I Love the macaroons here! I don't yelp much, but these sweets deserve it. They are to die for. Simply irresistible. =)
(5)Ron T.
Jimbo's is a great lunch and dinner spot in Japantown, especially if you're in the mood for creative Japanese comfort food. The rice bowls are great, especially the Jimbo Bowl and served with tasty sunomono (vinegar cucumber, takuan style radish, and kim chee). Try their hot dogs with an Asian flair (I love the Jimbo Roll, a makisushi roll with a hot dog in the middle). But wait, there's also Bubbie's (of Hawaii) mochi ice cream, macaroons (French macarons), homemade cookies, and Marianne's (that's right, of Santa Cruz) ice cream! You can't leave there without trying dessert. The staff has been very friendly every time I've eaten there. They're cheerful and helpful, and the service is outstanding. Located across Jackson from Gombei, it"s a cheerful cross between an ice cream shop and a lunch diner. It's great for the casual meal and tired of traditional Japanese cuisine. Come hungry, leave very satisfied. Only open for less than a year. Tell your friends. Hours: Wed 5pm-9pm, Thurs 11am-9pm, Fri and Sat 11am-10pm, Sun 11am-3pm
(5)Becky L.
Fresh mochi ice cream?! I'm there!! Seriously, you can't go wrong with this place if you are a big fan of mochi ice cream. I don't know if I can go back to mochi ice cream from the grocery store after this place...I recommend coming with lots of friends and getting the dozen so you can taste all the different flavors. My favorite? Green tea of course! I've also had pumpkin (seasonal), lychee (delish), mango (yum), pistachio (nutty), and guava (refreshing). I like the texture of the mochi as it comes straight out of the freezer. It's got a bite to it and melts gracefully in your mouth. If you like the chewiness of the mochi to stand out more, let it sit for a few minutes before devouring. Their food items are also quite tasty. Get the jimbo roll with hot link. They put a hot link with some rice, and pickled vegetables and roll it up with nori. It's a guilty pleasure for sure but I'll go out of my way to get my mochi ice cream fix at Jimbo's!
(5)Charlie N.
I went in and tried their sweet mix and was instantly hooked. I found everything else to be of really good quality. Service was like running into an old friend....very nice. I just wish they were open more hours!
(5)Steve N.
While I can't vouch for the whole staff being friendly (ahem lady who probably owns store and rang me up), the others were very friendly and who can resist a bunch of ice cream and mochi. I definitely would have gotten more mochi because it was pretty delicious. This wasn't like that fake mochi cream place. They are actually real and colored correctly and filled with delicious ice cream. I would recommend guava and passion fruit. Definitely come here on a hot day.. After you get shaved ice from across the street.
(4)silvia d.
The mochi is awesome!! So nice to have this little place in Japantown for ice cream...and they're open until 10 pm on a friday. Definitely a plus. They'll need to get over their "cash only" policy if they want to stay in business. Also, the staff seem a kind of uncertain about who is supposed to do what. Small wrinkles I'm sure they'll iron out.
(5)Debbie T.
I originally came here to try the macaroons but they didn't have any. I came around 12pm on Sunday I can't imagine them selling out within an hour??? When I walked in the store had a weird smell like wet towels or something nasty. I ordered the bubbies it was alright, taste really doughy and had a weird after taste. I think the mochi from the Asian supermarkets are better and ALOT cheaper. The mochi is over priced and not all that. My daughter ordered the ice cream that was okay too. I probably won't be returning.
(2)Dream K.
Awesome bubbie's mochi from Hawaii! You have to try the green tea and strawberry mochi! They also carry Marriane's ice cream. It's good to know that we do not have to drive to Santa Cruz when we're craving for Marriane's. Met the owners, Joanne and Jim. Makes us want to support Jimbo's even more. Can't wait for the grand opening in a couple of weeks!
(5)Lela E.
My family and I love this place! They have a wide variety of flavors for their Mochi ice cream. My favorite flavors are lychee, mango, and guava! Their food menu is limited, but I must say I crave their jimbo roll every now and then! It's wrapped in nori and has rice, pickled cucumbers, and their special sauce. It may sound weird, but I remember the first time I've tried it and it was surprisingly delicious! The only bad thing is the store hours are really weird. They aren't open on Mondays and Tuesdays. So if I have i have any Jimbo cravings, it'll have to wait until Wednesday 11:30 am. Hehe! The people who work there are really nice and friendly. One more thing...they also make delicious black sesame macarons. They are temporarily unavailable until this fall since the person who makes them has personal matters to take care of. I hope she starts making those babies again soon!
(4)Jim S.
The ice cream called "10-20" is heavenly. The service is extremely friendly and genuine.
(5)Laura H.
We walked by this place about 10 times before it opened, waiting for the day! I love having a sweet shop in my neighborhood and Jimbo's fits the bill. Marianne's ice cream (they sell quarts too), Mochi, and assorted baked goods. I have yet to have a bad experience here. Everyone who works there is super nice and remember me and my husband. Since it's a family business the baked goods are hit or miss, some days there are lots of macarons, cookies, etc, some days there is nothing. Try all their limited edition/seasonal flavors, you won't be disappointed.
(4)K W.
Jimbo's should not be called Jimbo's. That's just confusing. They should just call themselves "We have Bubbies!" Since that's probably the main reason we would come here. So happy we don't have the fly all the way to Hawaii for Bubbies now!
(4)Michael P.
Went gombei for lunch which was great, but they don't have ice cream. I look at yelp, and Jimbo with the high reviews and say why not. Both my mother and I got the rainbow sherbat. It was really good quality ice cream or sorbet from Santa Cruz. Very reasonable price not the biggest quantity but great quality.
(5)Van W.
Love love love mochies! I have tried all the flavors and they are all yum. Awesome mochies, outstanding customer service, thumbs up
(5)Cindy C.
Quick Tips: Mochi is UHHH-Mazing! I tried their Honeydew, Pistachio, and Guava, and my favorites were the Honeydew and Guava because both of these flavors fully reflected what the fruit tastes like while the pistachio had a very subtle pistachio flavor. The ratio to ice cream filling and mochi were perfect! But the highlight of my trip to Jimbo's was their black sesame sauce! Ask for a sample and if you adore black sesame, then you'll love this sauce! We actually bought a jar, bought some vanilla bean ice cream, heated up some black sesame sauce, poured it over the ice cream, and it was UHHH-Mazing all over again. Service was super friendly and parking was manageable. Definitely a go to place on a hot day in San Jose!
(4)Emily C.
If you're anything like me and you're tired from buying that standard boxed mochi ice cream from Trader Joe's/Asian supermarkets, your worries have come to an end!!! These mochi babies are delicious and come in a variety! I came here after seeing pictures on Instagram and stopped by after dinner at Omogari next door. UHH best decision ever. Bought three pieces to share with the bf and we got green tea, mango, and chocolate expresso. ALL 3 were heaven in my mouth. I felt bad for my bf cause we were supposed to split them but I think I lost all self-control and ate them when he got up to get a napkin...... woops LOL Next time though I'm getting the rest of the flavors cause let's face it, I'm addicted. P.S. You have to wait like 5 minutes for the mochi to defrost a little, this is when they are at their prime deliciousness.
(5)Joyce E.
My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place on our way to Banana Crepe. My boyfriend, who loves everything about Hawaii, was in disbelief when he saw that Jimbo's carried Bubbie's mochi. We walked in, were greeted by the sweet lady whom I'm assuming was one of the owners, and asked if they really sold Bubbie's and if it really is from Hawaii. The lady laughed and said that they get their Bubbie's shipment every week and yes, it really is from Hawaii! They sell their mochi in quantities of 3, 6, and 9 and have a huge assortment to choose from. We ended up getting 2 lychee and 1 mango. Mango Mochi - So so so good! You know those packs of mochi they sell at Trader Joe's and Asian Supermarkets? Yeah those definitely DO NOT COMPARE to Bubbie's! Their mango is the best mango mochi I've ever had and it's so sweet and fresh! Lychee Mochi - Yum! The lychee mochi had a lighter flavor to it, but was really good. Prior to Jimbo's, I've never had Bubbie's Mochi before. I believe the thinner mochi consistency matches the ice cream flavor, which makes a recipe that appeals to many people's tastebuds. If I'm ever in the area, I will visit Jimbo's just to get some more of that delicious mochi!
(5)Dustin B.
Great dessert stop after you have some ramen or noodles nearby. Only got mochi, but really good. Mango: not too sweet, but very light. Passion fruit: was a good balance of tart compared to the mango. Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip: very flavorful, creamy peanut buttery center. None of the flavors disappointed. They also have Marianne's ice cream, which is fantastic.
(4)CeCe C.
I scream! You scream! We all scream for Bubbies Mochi Ice Cream! Hoorah! Hoorah! Yay! Finally a store that has individual Bubbies mochi ice cream!! :) I came here last October and ordered 3 mochi for $4.95. It is a bit pricey, but it's the best way to try more flavors without having to buy the whole box. - Black Sesame - Pumpkin - Green Tea This place also serves Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz and other specialty baked treats! YUM!! :D
(4)Jennifer L.
I love this place... So much, that I came here twice in one day. Their mochi is so good. Personally, I think the green tea and strawberry flavor are the best. Because I have a green tea obsession, I also felt compelled to try their green tea ice cream. I'm so glad I did, and just writing about it is making me crave some more.
(5)Tuyet C.
The owner is sooo nice! He gave us a free sample of macaroon to try lol, the mochi is good:) green tea, strawberry and the azuki bean is delish!
(4)Ben H L.
Ice cream, rice bowls, hot dogs, and the option to add mochi wrapped around aforementioned ice cream? Count...me...in!!! I came to Jimbo's after dinner elsewhere and although I was very full from eating pizza earlier, I saw the hot dog options and for a teensy weensy moment...I wanted to get a hot dog as my dessert. Is that weird? They service Marianne's which I have no complaints about. It saves me a trip to Santa Cruz! I'll keep this place in mind as a post dinner dessert destination.
(4)Jenna R.
The closest I'll ever get to Bubbie's from the islands, for now. I love ice cream. I love HI. Put those two together, you end up at Jimbo's. And it's next to my favorite Korean resto in SJ. PS -- they're closed on Mondays!
(4)Frances N.
The workers here are so friendly and polite, which makes this place even better! I ordered shaved ice and they gave me a really good portion for how much i paid. I couldnt try the mochi there cus it was a little more expensive in my opinion, but will definitely try the next time im on my way to Japantown! :)
(5)J S.
Read about this place through fellow yelpers, and decided to come down and sample the bubbies from Hawaii. Usually mochi ice cream comes in the standard flavors of vanilla, strawberry, chocolate. This place had a couple of different fruit variety such as passion fruit, guava, and lychee. Decided to try the green tea, lychee, and chocolate chip strawberry. It's 3 for $4.95 My hub and I ate them within minutes. Pretty good, however I can buy some bubbies at Whole Foods near my house now rather than drive here. Just read a conversation on yelp about mochi. Thank goodness for all my fellow foodies out there!
(4)Erica S.
I am not big fan of mochi ice cream , I just came here to see what this place is about. I tried their strawberry ice cream and it was OK , like any other mochi ice cream. They do have variety of flavors and I guess for someone who is in that kind of ice cream will like it here.
(4)Andrew L.
Overpriced and small portions. Ice cream already has enough of a markup...give the customer some more for their money.
(2)B W.
My friend and I came here after having lunch at Gombei. This quaint little ice cream shop is in San Jose's Japantown, one of the 3 Japantowns left in the US. We ordered 6 different flavors of mochi ice cream for $9.95. We ordered lychee, pistachio, chocolate coconut, chocolate expresso, passion fruit, and guava. Apparently the mochi ice cream is shipped from Hawaii. Yes, it is very frozen hard when you first get it, but it softens quickly. I used a plastic knife to cut in half to share with my friend. My favorite flavors were the guava and passion fruit. All the flavors were delicious though. They also sell shave ice which supposedly is similar to the ones sold in Hawaii, so I'll have to try it next time. The owner was friendly and since it wasn't busy, he sat down with us and we talked story.
(5)Louis H.
No Top Dog. I ordered the regular hot dog and it was just ok. A bit sloppy presentation but the dog tasted ok. I was expecting a gourmet dog but alas it was just the same as the ones I make at home. Not bad but not great.
(3)Sylvia K.
The black sesame sauce that they have here is AMAZING!!! I have not had anything quite like it! It tastes like black sesame, but it's got like a caramel-y texture, and it's got a salty taste to it too, in addition to the nutty flavor of the sesame seed. It goes great with the Marianne's ice cream that they serve here. The guy working said that the 10-20 (which is caramel ice cream with oreo cookie and fudge - so YUMMY!!!) would go well with the black sesame sauce and it does!!! We got a scoop of the 10-20 plus a scoop of the vanilla ice cream and had it with the black sesame sauce - SO DELICIOUS!!! Another great thing about this place is that they sell Bubbie's mochi ice cream. Bubbie's is from Hawaii and it's better than the kind that they sell at stores because there are more flavors. My fave flavors are lychee, passionfruit, and guava. Now I don't have to go all the way to Oahu to get these yummy treats (but that's not to say that I wouldn't go - I totally would!). They are sold in threes. They also have non-dessert items like hot dogs and rice bowls, but I haven't tried them - I guess I'm just more interested in the desserts. The ice cream is great, the black sesame sauce is amazing, and the service I thought was excellent - very friendly, let us try samples of ice cream, made recommendations. The logo is cute - I think the guy is the owner? The interior of this place is a bit plain except for the random memorabilia hanging on the walls. This is a great addition to Japantown. I'll be back!!!
(4)Jacqueline V.
4.5 stars Small neighborhood place within walking and biking distance of home, so who am I to complain. We need more places like this in my neighborhood. I love the fact that Japantown is getting all these new businesses. The ice cream selection is small but unique (Young Coconut is great) and several different cone types from which to choose. They have house-made cookies which are delicious. I like mochi ice cream but don't usually get it here - my entire family loves it here though! They make a dessert sort of like It's Its: A scoop of your favorite ice cream between two homemade cookies of your choice. The service is always friendly and prompt. My only reason for 4.5 stars instead of 5 is the interior. There must be some way to make it seem more comfortable, only I'm not sure what that is.
(4)Michael K.
This small mom and pop dessert place made it to my noteable section in my reviews in the south bay primarily because they are the only one who sells ice cream mochi with all their wonderful flavors (in the south bay as far as I know)! They get flown in from Bubbies in Hawaii so they're frozen at first. But just after leaving them out for like 5 minutes... they are quit delectable. I have had most of their flavors and have yet to have a bad one! So just get the flavors you usually like and I'm sure you won't be dissapointed (unless you really don't like mochi that is)! This place has small macaroons as well but just because I already had some really good french macaroons, I would just skip these. The ice cream isn't too bad (which is from Marianne's in Santa cruz?) if you're in the mood for ice cream specifically and/or don't like mochi icecream. The staff there is also quite friendly and helpful! Be sure to check this small shop out in J-town in San Jose!
(4)Maleah M.
Is there anywhere else you can buy mochi ice cream around here?? From what I believe the answer is no. Aside from the boxed kind at the supermarket. I started writing this with 4 stars then decided that Jimbo's deserved an extra one for being one of its kind. This place and the mochi's are often commonly referred to as Bubbie's! Jimbo's serves ice cream mochi, Marianne's ice cream, jumbo dogs (like spam musubi but with a hot dog), and other various goodies. The owner and his workers are all really helpful, patient, and nice! For those that do not know what mochi ice cream is, it is kind of like a round pouch/casing of pounded sticky rice with ice cream inside. It tastes more appealing than it sounds! I love that they have interesting flavors like guava! You can mix and match flavors and have to order either 3, 5, or 12 They also have a "chip and dale sampler" which basically is like an ice cream flight with your choice of 5 flavors. Take notice that these cones and scoops are smaller (hence its just a sampler)! I think this is great for a group smaller children because it's the perfect size for them, which is what I did and decided to take my 3 siblings. I also think it's great for anyone else when they can't decide what flavor to get and want a little bit of each! We got to try out the green tea, mango, rainbow sherbet, chocolate chip, and 10-20! They were all equally delicious and would recommend any of their ice cream flavors.
(5)Avocado Donbur I.
Today I tried their Teri Bowl. It's basically a hotdog donburi - pieces of cut hotdog over white rice. I know it sounds ghetto but it was strangely delicious! I had Butter Mochi for dessert and it was decadent (probably 2000 calories in that small piece). I didn't give five stars because the prices are steep for what you get here. Great hidden gem in San Jose nonetheless.

So first things first, I'm a huge sucker for mochi ice cream so once I knew this place existed, I knew I had to try it! Jimbo's is a small place in SJ japantown dwtn where it's super hard to find parking during busy hours and driving there is not fun in general. The mochi ice cream they sell are the ones imported from and sold in Bubbies in Hawaii so it makes sense the prices of the mochi ice cream is more expensive here. Back to the lovely mochi ice cream: I've tried the green tea, kahlua coffee, and azuki red bean! All three had an amazing texture and perfect sweetness after we let it sit for a bit soften up. It's nothing like the ones you buy im boxes at grocery stores and so much more authentic tasting! The kind man that helped us out was very patient with us as we took our time to choose the flavors. Overall, these are the best mochi ice creams I've ever had and will def be back for more! That or hopefully I can go to bubbies in hawaii!

As someone who loves dessert, ice cream and pretty circular things, this definitely hit the spot after some Korean food down a few doors! And besides, you're in Japantown...get some mochi! I came here around 8 PM on a Saturday evening, and there was a decent crowd already devouring their delicious ice cream outdoors since it was so hot! There are laminated print out of their menus by the front entrance, so grab one and check it out before ordering! We decided on the 12 pieces of mochi ice cream for $17.95. Seriously, I wanted to try everything! So that is what we did-we tried the 10 standard flavors and the 2 specials-of-the-month flavor. They do have a more extensive list on pink laminated paper if you wanted to be adventurous with your tastebuds! Flavors included: -Azuki bean (sweetened red bean) // Try it! -Green tea* // Classic! Must get! -Pistachio* // I like it! It had pieces of pistachio in it. -Chocolate mint -Strawberry dark chocolate chip* -Guava* -Mango* -Passion fruit* -Strawberry* // Another classic! -Vanilla -Chocolate coconut* -Chocolate expresso -Lychee* -Chocolate peanut butter* Pros: -Quick service! It wasn't too busy and what we wanted wasn't anything too fancy..but I'm glad they didn't stall and gave us our mochi right away! -Awesome menu! So many different mochi flavors to choose from...and so many other dessert options too! Shaved ice (Banana Crepe is down the street though), ice cream cones, and even hot menus?! Cons: -Meh service. There were two people on staff, and one of them was pretty nonchalant. My brother had said "mint chocolate" instead of "chocolate mint" and he gave us the most disgusting look, followed by "huh?" -They just give you everything in a bowl and you don't even know which flavor is which. (Green tea and pistachio? Look like twins to me!) -Prices are a bit expensive (almost $1.50 per mochi) with the 12 mochi deal (they also have trio deals)...but definitely worth trying if you are in the area! Tips/Observations: -Definitely let the mochi ice cream melt a bit before devouring! It tasted a bit like a rock when I tried biting into it. -Parking is street parking! So be prepared to hunt down a parking spot on the side somewhere (or elsewhere). Overall, I would come here again if I was in town! But for now, I would still be content with my mochi ice cream from Trader Joe's.

First of all, the portions are huge! The small was HUGE. I got a small shaved ice (2 flavors=Condensed Milk&Guava). The Condensed Milk shaved ice was delicious but I was really disappointed in their fruit flavors (Guava did not taste anything like Guava and my friend's Strawberry tasted slightly like cough medicine-just being honest). I think if they improve their fruit flavors (or at least their Guava and Strawberry), they would be making some 5-star shaved ice! They shave the ice very thinly so it's really enjoyable to eat. The customer service from the man working there was excellent (very kind). I liked how they had a variety of desserts to choose from (ice cream, shaved ice, mochi ice cream) and some appetizer-like foods (like Kimchi hotdogs)!

This is an Asian American gem. It's kinna like walking into a Asian American Japantown museum that serves mochi, Marianne's Ice Cream & Hawaiin Shaved Ice. What I've had: Hawaiian Shaved Ice: Hella Big serving. Tasty. Too sweet for me, but I asked the guy making it to only put half the amount of juice on it and it was good! * 5 stars and super cheap... Marianne's Ice Cream I recomend the grean tea (subtle and not too sweet) and the mango. It's not Mitchell's from SF, duh! But, it's decent. * 4 stars Their crunchy, party snack mix They give samples of it... It's aight. Prob a 3.5. I'd eat it if it was there, but wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. What I LOVE: MOCHI ICE CREAM! Favorites: espresso chocolate, guava & green tea! So yummy!!! You get a dose of history when you walk in and there is tons of Asian American relics like articles, historical facts and some record covers on the wall. It's got a Hawaiin local feel with a twist of Asian American his/hertory. It's kind of a gem. Love from a local girl, Renee from the Bay

I would not come here again. They don't have vanilla with chocolate fudge swirled in it. I shouldve tried the mochi cause i feel like thats what theyre known for so im sorry for the one star but i like vanilla with chocolate fudge swirled in it.

Why has it taken me SO long to come to this place? OMG, I truly didn't know what I was missing! Whoa, let me tell you, that this is my all time favorite Mochi place! Yummy, yum, yum!! Came here during the weekend with my dinner crew to see what the hype was about and walked into this little mochi store and was greeted right away by the young men behind the desk. Quickly noticed that the Mochi pricing is VERY reasonable! They DO NOT sell their Mochi separately. You have to buy either 3, 5 or 12. Pricing for the Mochi's are: *3 for $5.95 *5 for $9.95 12 for $17.95 They come in SO many different variety of flavors from original Vanilla to the unique flavors like Red Velvet and gingerbread, SAY WHAT? YESS!! Let me not forget to mention they have Ice Cream as well that comes in many different yummy flavors. I also tried the Jimbo's Butter Mochi, very yummy and different. It's basically the outer part of the Mochi and consist of Sugar, Butter, eggs, Rice Flour and evaporated Milk....Mostly all the things that are unhealthy for you BUT taste SO good! I would definitely be back to try more flavors! This place is such a great find thanks to my yelp buddies!
(4)Eugene L.
I was Rolling with the EBC Dinner Crew and we stopped at Jimbos after a great meal at Sushi Infinity . Our Objective to score some Bubbies Mochi from Hawaii . Jimbos is a brightly lit place. Has some interesting Wall decorations with Historical info. Has a LCD TV for Entertainment . I ordered Mochi - Flavors - Peanut Butter and Chocolate. I paid by Credit Card . I let the Mochi relax for a Few Minutes and then I Munched on them . Definitely a Tasty Treat . Street Parking only.

If you're a fan of all things ice cream and all things mochi - especially together - this place will have your screaming for more. LOVE the Bubbies mochi ice cream - especially the Lychee and Guava flavored.
(5)Dana D.
You just can't go wrong with Mochi ice cream. Love Jimbo's!! They have so many flavors to choose from and their prices are pretty reasonable as well. Honestly 3 will fill your cravings forsure! I always share three or five with another person and I'm always super satisfied. My favorite flavors are the Lychee, Pistachio, Strawberry, Green Tea and Guava. So much yummmm! Staff is very kind and always offers free samples of their mixed chips when you walk in and are still deciding on what you want. And once you receive your Mochi ice creams, give it about 10 minutes for it to soften and you're all set to indulge yourself into yummmmerzz!
(5)Linh V.
This place is like a mochi ice cream heaven. I've been going here for a couple of years now, always itching to try their unique flavors, which range from fruity flavors like guava and mango (my favorite) to flavors like root beer. They don't serve singles, but serve them in pairs of 3...which I don't consider an issue because how can an individual eat one and not crave for another?! Their jumbo dogs are like giant spam musubis except with a hot dog in the middle. They're about 7 dollars each, but the portion is filling! I really like the hot sauce that goes with it...it's like a La Vic's sauce that complements the rice and seaweed perfectly. If you can't decide on an ice cream flavor, I recommend getting the sampler! You get to choose five flavors for about 7 dollars. The fudge flavor and the 10-20...ugh *drool...for all you chocolate lovers, those two are a must! This place is a popular spot so seating can be hard to find on a busy night, but the service is extremely welcoming, and I always look forward to coming back!
(5)Christine D.
Stumbled upon Jimbo's when walking around Japantown over the weekend and tried a scoop of Marianne's Green Tea ice cream for about $4. Loved the flavor and consistency. Creamy and not too sweet. Their mochi is also very popular. They call their mochi filled with ice cream "bubbies". Service was great! There were numerous employees able and willing to help us with what we wanted to try or order. There's indoor seating which is a plus and they also have a restroom for customers.
(4)Ee Vonn Y.
They have much more than ice cream and mochi. In fact, most of the customers ordered actual food instead of their desserts. It's clean and open, but it's probably not the ideal place for a date and when you have Okayama down the street. I ordered one scoop of their green tea ice cream. They provided one magnificent scoop into a cup so you receive all $3 worth of diabetic goodness. Unfortunately it didn't taste much like green tea at all. It tasted like plain ice cream.
(3)Ricky H.
Mochi ice cream from Hawaii! Best you can get. I love the root beer flavor, which is seasonal for only the summer. So get them while you can! I ended up buying a whole case of these to stock in my fridge (8 dozens). Parking might suck depending on time of day. Friendly staff. Haven't tried the other offerings, only tried the mochi ice cream, which I highly recommend.

This review is only for the mochi ice cream. I've had this place bookmarked for awhile and finally came out too try their Bubbies mochi ice cream from Hawaii. I ordered to go and was told to wait at least 5 minutes for the mochi to defrost before eating. By the time I got home, it was pretty much ready to eat. There are a couple of tables inside and outside if you do decide to stay and eat. 3 pieces for $5.95, 6 for $9.95, and12 for $17.95. Tried the strawberry, azuki, guava, mango, lychee, and green tea. The outside was a nice thin layer of mochi and the ice cream inside was very flavorful. My favorites were the green tea, mango, and azuki. The lychee was probably my least favorite. This is definitely better than the stuff you get at the supermarket. (I've had a bad experience with them and had a couple boxes that were freezer burned and nasty.) I've read some good reviews about the ice cream and will come back to try that along with more mochi the next time I'm in the area.
(4)Amy C.
I only come for the mochi here. SO. Good. They are like little nuggets of deliciousness, not like the frozen stale stuff you get at Ranch 99. My favorite is guava, which has floral tones. I also like strawberry. They have a list of flavors totalling to around 12-15 flavors including but not limited to: green tea, passion fruit, chocolate, vanilla bean, red bean, etc. They also have seasonal flavors. The perfect time to eat them would be around 10 minutes after purchase when they've been at RT for awhile. This allows ice cream to thaw enough so it's soft but still firm inside. The only thing I would say is that they are pretty pricey with each totaling to more than $1, but I think they are totally worth it. Parking is pretty easy to find since it's in Japantown.
(5)Lilian L.
Maybe 2 stars.. it's not bad, it's just not.. spectacular. It didn't taste great or amazing, it was medicore, wasn't really good. I didn't love the texture, it was hard biting into skin wise, the wrapper wasn't that good, I would rather buy the ones at the supermarket. Best one though for mochi: the azuki bean, most flavorful. I would have to say that one was REALLY GOOD.. but if it's just one out of 6 that we ordered.. The other ones from what my friends and I experienced: some of them were just okay, one of them loved the espresso one. The fruity ones gave one friend serious confusion on what was what since there seemed to be a different scent/taste to what it was suppose to be.. They also have Marianne's ice cream here so that's a treat for those who crave it. It's a pass for me. Okay for the others (I went with 3 other people) Pros: clean? not loud or the day I went on..
(1)Aya D.
I love that this place is in Japan town because I can come here after a delicious meal at Gombei. I've tried several of their ice cream mochis but my favorite flavor is guava because when you bite into it it's like biting into the best guava you've ever had. I've also had their butter mochi and popped caramel rice(?) both which are really good and worth trying out.
(5)James K.
THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!!! After having a very disappointing dinner across the street at Shaburi we walked over to Jimbo's. The staff was very friendly and made great recommendations. There were so many good flavors to choose that we got the sampler (5 mini cones). The biggest mistake we made was my wife and I ordered one sampler to share. I barely got a taste of each and at the end my wife had dessert regrets. If the line wasn't so long and we had more time would have definitely got more. Flavors we tried below: - Cantaloupe: delicious!!! taste like a Korean melona bar - 10-20: Recommended by one of staff. Caramel, oreo and chocolate. CRAZY GOOD! I don't even like caramel or oreos - Coffee Fudge: Good coffee fudge ice cream but nothing mind blowing - 50/50: Orange creamcicle and vanilla (I think) Really good Orange cream ice cream! - Blueberry Cheesecake: A MUST TRY!!! Light, creamy, and not too sweet They have other stuff too that will try next time. But this is definitely my new dessert spot and next time gonna get my own. No sharing.

This place sells an eclectic collection of food, from granola to ice cream to black sesame paste. I tried 6 difference flavors of mochi ice cream, I liked guava, strawberry, and green tea. The mochi wrap had a strong rice taste, which I enjoyed. Good place to bring kids, except the AC is not very strong.
(3)Henry L.
Wow this place sucks We went in on a saturday afternoon, thoroughly excited about getting some mochi. The inside looked cute, with warm colors etc, but essentially empty--not a good sign :( When we finally got some mochi, it was ROCK SOLID frozen. They literally froze the damn mochi into ice cubes. The only way to eat it was to swallow the whole mochi whole, and then have the ROCK SOLID frozen mochi de-freeze inside your mouth. What the heck?? We got 3 mochis, and decided to visit Roy's coffee nearby, sit outside, and put the mochi on the outside tables so it would warm up. After we finished our coffee, guess what, the mochi IS STILL FROZEN. Jesus. I feel bad about writing this review because the wait staff seemed like decent people (basically a teenager), and it looked like they didn't know what they were doing as opposed to intentionally serving frozen mochi. In any case, I'd rather burn my money in $1 bills as opposed to spending it on buying mochi from this place--at least I would get some gratification out of it.

The only two places I know in San Jose that sells mochi are Mochicream and Jimbo's. Usually my mochi spot is Mochicream but since it is always closed at 7:30pm - Jimbo's it is! Plus, I've had this place bookmarked since forever. Jimbo's is located in San Jose's Japantown. I didn't even know there was a Japantown! It is a cute store that has about 3 small tables and 2 big tables. I came to Jimbo's for mochi, but the ice cream also caught my eye. There are pretty exotic and asian flavored ice cream. For a single scoop of cantaloupe ice cream $3.25 it is quite a deal compared to single scoop of ice cream in San Francisco. The workers there are generous with the ice cream. The single scoop is huge! The cantaloupe tasted like real cantaloupe but in ice cream form. Between the four of us, we ordered 9 mochis. The flavors I got was green tea, lychee, mango. My other 2 friends got green tea, lychee, chocolate mint, vanilla, passion fruit and strawberry. We all enjoyed our mochis. To me Jimbo's mochis aren't as flavorful as Mochicream. Jimbo's mochi are great, but nothing special. I might be back here to try the other ice cream flavors. Not so much for the mochi.

I went a while ago with a friend, but I still remember this place, and I love it! Service is wonderful. My friend and I were greeted by a man, and he was very friendly. He was good at helping us out, since we were first timers. We bought the 6 piece mochi icecream! My favorite was the vanilla, pistachio, and strawberry, but then again, they were all very good! He told us we should wait for a bit before eating, since it needs to be a bit warmer for it to taste good. I'm glad he told us, because if I hadn't known and bit into it, then I might not have liked the hardness of it. It's surprising that by waiting for just a few minutes, it softens pretty quickly. The man (is it jimbo himself?) made sure we knew when to eat it, and I appreciate that! Also, we got a 7th one, and I was so happy! Made my day. Environment: Very friendly vibe, there's children eating everything from ice cream cones and shaved ice. There are couples enjoying their dessert. Family-type of feeling. Colorful place too. Improvements/thoughts: 1) I didn't know they could split the mochi for us. I just looked through yelp pics and found out. I went with my friend and asked him to cut in half, but he gave me a plastic knife instead to do it ourselves. It was still nice, but I think it would be great if the staff were able to cut our mochi, so it'd be ready to eat, instead of us fumbling with the knife. 2) The price is kind of expensive, but then again, the mochi quality is pretty good. Compared to supermarkets, this is really expensive. BUT I think Jimbo's Mochi is softer and tastes fresher, so they price is decent. I would definitely come back again! Good service, good mochi ice cream, good location!

Can't go to Hawaii? Too far to drive to Santa Cruz? No worries, Jimbo's is the place to be. They offer the infamous bubbies ice-cream mochi from Hawaii as well as Marianne's ice-cream from Santa Cruz! I came here with some girlfriends for the first time on Friday. There were 2 people working behind the counter--the owner and another young man. Trust me, nothing's worse than having your ice-cream served by someone who looks like he hates his job/the world/unicorns. However, that was NOT the case here. They both were so warm and personable that they made my "Jimbo's" experience a highly pleasant one! After quickly studying the menu, we decided to order 3 mochis as well as the Chip & Dale sampler, which comes with up to 5 flavors of ice-cream. I personally enjoyed the guava mochi and 10-20 ice-cream flavor the best (10-20 is caramel ice-cream with fudge and Oreo bits). Beyond desserts, they also offer rice bowls, hot dogs, beer, and more! Prices here are a little more than I'm used to paying for mochi and ice-cream. But, then again, it's a lot cheaper than driving to Santa Cruz or going to Hawaii right =p?
(5)Ingrid T.
I was looking for mochi ice cream the other day. I was craving it so bad! I yelped mochi ice cream in general & came across Jimbos. I decided to try it out based on the reviews & 10 mins later fell in love with it! BEST mochi ice cream I've ever had!
(5)Jacob J.
Great owner/service and great quality Mochi with great flavors! I recommend peach, but ask them for their popular flavors! They also have beer which is a huge plus and addition to Japantown!
(4)Meg T.
Jimbo's is 4 star Ice Cream. It's not BiRite, and it's not Willow Glen Creamery, but it's good, and closer to me than the aforementioned stores. Their scoops are a little on the large side for me, I rarely can finish a cone when I visit and usually end up throwing half away, but the service is always prompt and friendly. I'm not supposed to have dairy, so I come here very rarely, but it's a positive in my head, and I recommend going to locals for a sweet nightly treat.
(4)Eileen A.
Bubbies: just like I remember them from Foodland in HI! Same Bubbies. Shave Ice: if you come in here expecting Hawaiian Shave Ice you will be disappointed. It is not fine like snow and the syrups all taste very artificial and sugary making it difficult to distinguish flavors even. What I really appreciate about Hawaiian Shave Ice is the fine powder like texture of the shave ice and that their flavorings have real fruit in them. That being said if you haven't had shave ice from Ululanis, Matsumotos, Aokis, or Shimazus,...you will probably be OK with this. It's cold, fun and the smaller size is still huge. Seating inside for probably 20-25 and then a couple chairs outside. Definitely an old school mom and pop store kind of feel. I think minus the Bubbies they do seem to make their snacks, baked goods and food on the premise so you can support a small local business.
(3)John C.
I went here for the first time with my gf and it was great. We got a dozen Mochi Ice cream and Maryannes Macademnia Nut quart Ice cream for 26 bucks. Kind of pricey, but well worth. The flavors we got were Chocolate Peanut Butter, Chocolate Mint, Strawberry, Green Tea and Passion Fruit. I love chocolate, but the fruity ones were the best Passion Fruit and strawberry. I have been looking for Macademnia Nut ice cream forever its probably the best ice cream ever next to cheesecake ice cream from cold stone. Good customer service from a Male repping the Warriors! Good job we will definitely visit again.
(5)Fatima H.
I just walked in this place based on the yelp reviews and cause I had never tried this mochi bubbie ice cream thing. The staff were extremely friendly. So far I've tried mango, green tea, chocolate expresso, chocolate mint, guava, and passion fruit bubbies and my favorite is green tea !!! It is so delicious but the place is only open in the evenings, and closed on mondays :(
(5)Mandy G.
Best. Mochis/"bubbies". EVER! That's all I gotta say! Unsure where to go for mochis in the SJ area, I kept searching for Mochi Cream (should have been Mitsuwa Market). Jimbo's kept popping up & I decided to give it a try. No regrets coming here..... Colorful store-front, but the decor inside is very bland looking. Don't let that fool you! Supposedly their bubbies are from Hawaii - LEGIT! They have a wide variety of flavors, ranging from azuki bean to green tea, to mango to special monthly flavors, and much more. The day I came, their special monthly flavor was some sort of peppermint which I ordered. Good, but probably wouldn't order it again. You can order them in a set of 3, 6, or 12 pieces. I got guava which was delish and passion fruit .. which I probably considered amazing, because the flavor was so different compared to peppermint & guava! ------ Trio - $5.95 6-pieces - $9.95 12-pieces - $17.95 ----- Friendly service; aside from bubbies, they also serve drinks, beer, pastries, hot dogs, and rice bowls. Come here for the bubbies! You won't regret it!
(5)Eva O.
Hands down BEST ICE CREAM MOCHI ever! The ones in the boxes can't compare. My friend told me this is the closest we have compared to mochi in Hawaii. They have so many flavors and the ones I've tried were lychee, green tea and mango.
(5)Derek S.
Came by for some after-dinner mochi ice cream the other night! Despite being very warm inside, the mochi ice cream was very good! The vanilla was flavorful and tasty! The mochi "shell" was solid too! :) $5.95 for 3 Mochi Ice Creams! :D
(4)Caroline B.
I love Mochi ice cream! Actually, I love almost anything Japanese-related (esp. food & desserts!). 6 pieces/$9 something. Strawberry, Green Tea, Mango, Guava, Lychee, & Chocolate Espresso. All those flavors were good! Tip: Make sure you let it sit & thaw for a few minutes to really taste the creamy texture! F.Y.I: Santa Cruz's Marianne's Ice Cream is sold here! (Never tried, but heard/read it's delish!) $3.50 minimum charge on debit/credit card
(4)Jennifer W.
Mochi ice cream, butter mochi, and Marianni's ice cream? Are you kidding me? All in one location? Now I can tell my friend that she doesn't have to drive to Santa Cruz to get Marianni's ice cream. I don't have to go back home to Hawaii and eat mochi ice cream. Yeah, I know they have the boxed frozen version in Mitsuwa or 99 Ranch, but it's not the same. What about all the different flavors? Haha...yum! Butter mochi for $1.45. That's a bit expensive compared to Hawaii prices. But it's so good. I had to buy some. Mochi is made, eaten, and given for the New Year. So, welcome the new year with some mochi - eating!
(5)Ph N.
Coming from Hawaii and living there for 3 years, I was in love with homemade Bubbies ice cream. Who would imagine they sell it here! This will be my go to spot until I leave this area! Bonus they also have famous Mariannes ice cream from Santa Cruz!!! Two best ice cream places in one area, it doesn't get any better than this. Did I mention the customer service here is amazing also? And no they did not paid me to do this or I'm anywhere related to the business! Just a random walkin customer that is excited about this!!!
(5)Kt L.
Shaved ice : 5/5 it was great Customer service :5/5 Cookies 3/5 Butter mocchi :4/5 Fist time having shaved non snow cone shaved ice it was really good will come back again I got it with icecream in the middle because it's Marianne ice cream it's the best ice cream in town Cookies were really dry but have nice flavor Butter mocchi : tastes like a dessert I'd get in the Filipino store nothing special bit I do like it
(4)Eryn H.
My friend and I hit up this place after seeing the pictures! I bought a set of 3 bubbies (mochi ice cream) - lychee, pistachio, and passionfruit. The lychee one was my friend's favorite. It tasted like those lychee jellies, if you're a fan! Passionfruit was nice and slightly tart. Pistachio was my favorite because it added a creamy, nutty balance to the fruit flavors. Definitely recommend this place if you're craving something sweet after dinner!
(4)Dakota M.
I would give it 3 stars for for food but it deserves an extra star because the mochi was a must have. The workers were really friendly and nice. The shop is a little small but I feel like people just go here for the mochi or shave ice anyway. The price was cheaper than other places I been to for mochi. I ordered the jimbo hotdog which was wrap around with seaweed which in my opinion was flavorless and was a must not have. They have a lot of unique flavors for mochi as well. My mom ended up eating them all and ordered me to buy more. Also she told me to pick up a business card for her in case she wants to get some herself. I liked the green tea, espresso, gauva, lychee, mango and their seasonal mango flavor. I am glad my friends convince me to get the 12 pieces. Also the cashier does not know how to count so remember to count your mochi before you leave. I will definitely come here again and recommend that people should come here.
(4)Vivian L.
Eh. Not for me. The mochi has potential (good flavors) but unfortunately, are HARD. Perhaps it would've been better if it chilled a bit, but I've definitely had better mochi before and it wasn't as difficult to chew as this. Needless to say, I received the stank eye from my boyfriend because we passed by this place with his mom (who's a GREAT cook, hence a choosey eater) and I suggested we try their mochi since it's from Hawaii. I've also tried the Jimbo Dog a year back and it was mediocre too. Will not be returning again ;(.

TREATS (4 stars) Treat yourself to a little taste of Hawaii. Mochi filled with (Hawaii's) Bubbies ice cream. They have a good amount of flavors to choose from, sampled several flavors between 9 pieces of mochi. My top three were mango, lychee, guava. The mochi icecream here isn't the ones you find at trader joes or Costco. I'm hoping this summer they will bring in other unique flavors like they have in Hawaii like banana bread, h2o melon, etc. The mochi is really soft and the ice cream is flavorful. Mango is never a disappointment, lychee was like eating a fresh lychee from the fridge, and guava wasn't too overpowering but fruity. Bubbies ice cream is very popular and liked in 808, I think it's good but can't tell the difference of what's so good about it. While here you can order other stuff too. Hotdogs and snacks. I had to try the Jimbo Roll ($7.50). Huge hotdog rolled like a sushi. They cut it in half and can easily be shared with another. Interesting concept. Enjoyed it. Very filling. Each bite was like biting into a sushi burrito with a taste of a spicy hotdog. Not sure if that made sense, you will have to try it for yourself. Will I be back? Yes. I enjoy Sundays in SJ. Until the next review....

I always come by this place, but it's always closed. So I keep my eyes out every time I'm in the Japantown area, especially after I eat at Gombei! Usually it's closed, but just last week, I struck gold, and this place was actually open! Since it's open, I HAD to give this place a try. I've been wanting to try the "bubbies" which is mochi ice cream. I ordered three, but I gave one to my friend. So I had the watermelon and the strawberry dark chocolate chip. The strawberry dark chocolate chip was good! It carried the strawberry flavor, and you can definitely tell they used dark chocolate. It was delicious, and wasn't super frozen like the Mochicream ones. The watermelon was my favorite out of the two. It tasted just like a watermelon fruit-by-the-foot! It was like my favorite childhood candy in mochi ice cream form. It was awesome! They come on this bamboo platter, but they slide off easily, so be careful when moving it! The decor here is cool too! It's colorful, spacious and clean. I really wish it was open more, but I heard the owner is a professor, so the shop schedule is based on that. Not too sure, but I'll come here every chance I get!

Love their Mochi but also stumbled onto their Jimbo dogs too - little unusual to look at but love them
(5)JoAnn C.
We we went here and ordered mochi ice cream and I told my friend she had to wait till the mochi melted before eating it because I was so used to Mochicream XD;; DON'T LET IT MELT PEOPLE. It's good for mochi ice cream but I don't think it's anything to rave about! It tastes only like 5 percent better than the kinds in grocery stores.
(4)Samantha C.
Place was just okay. They don't have that many ice cream flavors and ice cream was too melty. I had the 1020 and I had to rush to finish it. It also wasn't as good as when I got it at Marianne's. Weird, considering it is Marianne's. I thought about getting the mochi, but they are ridiculously overpriced. Yea, I know they're from HI, but I don't like them enough to spend the $6 minimum for 3.
(3)Kelly T.
I have only been here for what they're most famous for: mochi ice cream. The prices are rather fair and most of the flavored I have tried are delicious. I highly recommend the fruit flavored ones over the other flavors. They are usually the ones with ore flavor payoff (plus the various colors make them very pretty). I definitely recommend if you're an ice cream junkie. Some flavors are softer than others so keep that in mind!
(4)Christine H.
This is the ONLY place (that I know of) that actually flies in their mochi from Hawaii every Thursday, and boy oh boy, their mochi (with the deelish flavors they have: lychee, guava, passionfruit, mango, taro) is the BEST I've ever had in the bay area! It's the perfect dessert place...a great way to end a meal (specifically from next door, SJ Omogari Korean Restaurant)...your taste buds will be in HEaVEn! The only reason I give them 4/5 stars, is because the service kind of sucks. There are only two people behind the counter, and with the traffic they get, they really need 3 people. With 2 people servicing the public, (and if there's a line), you have to wait like 10 minutes to even put your order in.
(4)Kelly Y.
I've wanted to try this place for a while now. When I went yesterday they didn't have any macarons but did have some awesome mochi. I was really impressed with their strawberry chocolate chip, peppermint, and chocolate mint mochi. The only thing I didn't really like was how they served the mochi frozen....can't even stick your fork in it. Would've been nice if they told you approx wait time for thawing. The ice cream inside was awesome, I love the flavor choices but mochi skin was eh. Not sure if it's because I didn't thaw it long enough or if it's just thick but compared to Mochicream in Mitsuwa....I like the soft chew at Mochicream a bit better. The service there was pretty nice. The older lady was really patient and friendly. There are indoor and outdoor seats to just relax and have a quick bite. I'd go again if the opportunity presents itself but probably wouldn't go out of my way to go there.

So I came here based on the reviews from my fellow yelpers and the fact that I love all things that are Mochi Ice Cream. Can't say I was disappointed. Got 6 different flavors, but only two of them stood out. Both the guys working there were friendly and helpful. The place is clean and well kept. Out of the 6 flavors I tried today, my favorite would be the Mango and the Pistachio. The Green tea was a bit disappointing. It was a bit lite...so to speak. The Guava, Azuki bean and the Chocolate Coconut were good. Got a few more flavors to go through, then I'll give the Ice Cram a shot.
(4)Trang B.
Mochi ice cream. Tried the guava, passion fruit, and root beer (special flavor of the month) Root beer was by far my favorite. For 3 pieces, it was 7 dollars. My wallet hurt a little bit, but they were definitely all delicious. They advise you to wait a little bit for it to defrost, listen to them Shaved Ice. Texture isn't as smooth as Banana Crepe, I wasn't a fan. Service was great. They were patient, helpful, and gave out samples. Aside from a variety of desserts, they also had hot dogs and rice bowls? Sort of want to try.
(4)Mary J.
Came here on a hot Saturday afternoon in hopes of some reprieve from the heat. I ordered 3 ice cream mochi which were green tea flavored. It was $5.95 for three. They serve mariannes ice cream from Santa Cruz which is so good! Other things they serve: hot dogs, cookies, homemade snack mixes.
(4)Connie W.
A thin layer of sweet glutenous rice wrapped around ice cream. If you like sweet chewy rice and you like ice cream then you will really like Mochi Ice Cream. It is cheaper to buy from big grocery stores but at Jimbo, they offer many tropical flavors. I had coconut, lychee, and guava. They were all good. And with the high price, you savor the indulgence of dessert.
(3)Thanh T.
Ordered their 3 mochi ice creams for $5.95! Guava, lychee, & speculoo. All of the flavors were really good but the guava one was best! They have the best mochi ice creams here by far! It came out frozen but not too frozen were you cannot bite into. Once you put it in your mouth, it kind of just melts. The texture of the mochi was soft & not too chewy. The decor was outdated & old. The place is pretty small but the owners seemed really nice. Will definitely come back to try other things on their menu!
(4)Tiffany C.
A cute little shop in Japantown! The service was top-notch and the mochi was certainly tasty but yes, it's pricey! I really like the setup of the shop with the old-school Japanese stars and athletes on the walls and the old diner feel, but it's just not special enough for me. My mom and I tried the mango, guava, and pistachio mochis from Bubbies and they're great! (Of course) But, certainly I could get a pack from Mitsuwa or any Asian market for much cheaper. Perhaps if the flavors were a bit more exciting? They also offer ice cream, shave ice, and macarons! If you're already in the area, stop by. Otherwise, I think there are pretty similar offerings around town.
(3)Serena C.
Mmm...this place is so good. Reminds me of Hawaii definitely. My sister and I came tonight and we ordered: Mango - tasted like jackfruit which was weird but it was good. ** my sister's fave** Lychee - ** my fave ** flavor was so intense Pistachio - ** my fave ** there were actual pistachio nuts in it Chocolate Mint - eh ...it was choco mint Strawberry Chocolate Chip - no strawberry flavor really shine through. i could definitely taste the choco chip Guava - ** my sis fave ** again, very on point flavor
(4)T Lee S.
A great place to come for dessert after having dinner in J-Town. We like coming here because compared to the other shave ice place down the street, Jimbo's is fast and they take credit cards. The atmosphere in here is nice and welcoming. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed.
(4)Sara L.
Came here for some mochi ice cream & lawwwd I'm in love. *heart eye emoji* We were in SJ today and decided to stop by here for dessert. I just got home and had my mochi and I'm never buying mochi from the grocery store again. The workers here are hella friendly :) **I don't know how my banana crepe pics got on here lol.
(5)June Y.
I'm a sucker for mochi and mochi ice cream so I'm pretty biased. More 3.5 than 4 because I think this place is a little overpriced for what it is. 3 Bubbies costs $5.95. What? The bubbies also come out extremely frozen like hurt your teeth frozen which I don't appreciate but once you leave it out for a couple of minutes, it's a little bit easier to bite into. Ordered Pistachio, Guava, and Chocolate Espresso and espresso was my fave. Pistachio & guava were good too but the flavors were a little too mild for my taste (especially the guava, i probably wouldn't have guessed guava if I didn't know what it was). The espresso however was very flavorful and you could really taste the coffee. Would go back to try their Chippendale sampler! If you're in the SJ Japantown area, choices for dessert are limited and this place is good to try.
(4)Lydia K.
So good OH SO GOOD. I really like bubbies so the fact that they had such a wide variety of them was great! The service was amazing and super kind. They also put it in a cute bowl for me and my friend hahaha. So here's what we got and what we really liked the most: Guava, Passion fruit, Lychee, Chocolate expresso were all REALLY GOOD Azuki Bean, Chocolate Coconut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, Mango were still really good just not as amazing as the ones above ahaha Either way definitely coming back for more!
(5)Vicky L.
Came to Jimbo's to try their famous Bubbies! Such a cute name for mochi ice cream! My friend and I ordered the guava, lychee, mango, green tea, and strawberry chocolate chip. Such unique flavors from the typical vanilla and strawberry huh? We also ordered savory food as well to go with our bubbies. I ordered the teri dog and my friend ordered the Hot Link bowl. For $5.95, the teri dog wasn't all that. Tasted like a regular hot dog with seaweed and sesame on top (aka Furikake). I can easily make a teri dog with a costco hot dog, drizzle spicy mayo & throw some furikake on top and it would taste the same (even better..). I was able to sample my friends Hot link rice bowl and it was good. Came with kim chee, pickled radish and greens. The bubbies were all yummy. My faves were the green tea and strawberry chocolate chip. They were tasty little bite size treats! Not doughy, but creamy and refreshing. Overall, our taste buds were satisfied, service was good, food was okay, bubbies were good. Prices on the other hand, for their savory dishes...need an adjustment. I'll come here again, if I'm in the area. I wanna try more bubbies :P
(3)Johnson N.
Freaking love Jimbo's... I don't know why, the small cup was 3.25$ A great place to hangout with a few friends, a date? i dont know! but this place was awesome :)
(4)Tammy N.
I've been following Bubbie's Mochi Ice Cream since Pink Stripes at Santana Row sold them! IT WAS LOVE AT FIRST BITE. So of course when my bf and I visited Oahu, HI we had to visit Bubbie's in real life. Since then, I've been longing to come back for more and I finally have it! You can purchase it in 3s, 6s, or 9 I believe. I've pretty much had every single flavor and my top 5 are passion fruit, guava, watermelon, and lychee. I'd say Mochi Cream is better for flavors such as red bean, green tea and other oriental ones but if you want fruit then you need to try Bubbies. Ugh, thinking about Bubbies has me longing to be back in Hawaii....
(5)Lisa S.
wow, this place is such a hidden gem in the San Jose Japan Town center, located just minutes away from the SAP center. I'm not sure how long they'e been there but why am I just finding out about this place? It's great! The staff are very nice and help you pick out their best flavors and recommendations on which dessert to chose from! Yes, they have many different variety of dessert plates to chose from! They have mochi ice cream, shaved ice, regular ice cream, pastries, and some homemade snacks such as trailmix, pastries, and other small candies! One thing i suggest all to try is their shaved ice! it's truely amazing! and you get to decide on two flavors to add to it too! I tried the tigers blood with mango and we added condensed milk and it was delish! We also got a side of 3 mochis! Mango, Guava, and mint chocolate. The best one there was mango, but the staff said the guava was their best seller. The customer service here is great and so was the dessert! I will be coming back and they have a new happy customer! super satisfying!
(4)Stephanie T.
Looove it! My boyfriend and I came in late one night and was greeted with the warmest welcome from an older gentleman, the owner I'm assuming. We had a little discussion about how I found the shop on Yelp and how the 'bubbles' are from Hawaii. I ordered 3 'bubbles' which were a little over priced, but I honestly don't mind considering they get flown here from Hawaii. The owner recommended coconut and coffee too me, but those are the two flavors I probably dislike the most. I ended up ordering guava, passion fruit and mango. Loved them all! My favorite was the passion fruit because of the tart flavor it has. The shop is the size of an average ice cream parlor (baskin robbins). There are only a few tables and a little run down. Overall, presentable, clean and simple enough. Will be back sometime soon! Definitely recommended!!
(5)Rebecca H.
Jimbo's ships their mochi from Bubbies! For anyone unfamiliar with the dessert places of Oahu, Bubbies is hilarious and utterly delicious. Whenever I visit Honolulu, my uncles and aunties always spoil me with ice cream mochi from Bubbies. And the few times that I have visited the store, I just crack up from the inappropriate names of their ice cream sundaes like "come here, little girl". So so wrong. But given the expensive costs of flying to Honolulu from the mainland, Jimbo's will totally suffice and allow me to stuff my face with ice cream mochi in the meantime. Not just that, but they also have a lot more flavors than the ice cream mochi available at an Asian supermarket or at Trader Joe's.
(4)Elsvette B.
There is an older Asian gentleman here that had the sweetest demeanor I've ever encountered in my life, such genuine kindness. I love, absolutely love, their mochi ice cream. It's worth every penny. My most favorite one is the Dark Chocolate Strawberry. It's the best thing ever. When you order it, remember to let it defrost for about a minute and afterwards it such a treat! The mochi has a nice chewy, soft consistency and the flavors are top notch. What gets me is the service. Absolutely wonderful and always friendly service. Even when I asked the most ridiculous question, they were awesomely gracious. I asked if the mochi ice cream can be frozen for later consumption. Well, duh. (I was tired but caught my error quickly). We had a nice little laugh and I enjoyed my treats. I want to try their snow ice products next time. This place is worth the visit and the calories! Enjoy!!!!
(5)Mina C.
The 50/50 ice cream under POG and Mango shaved ice was perfect for a warm and lazy Sunday afternoon. I would've liked a bigger scoop of ice cream, but it was delicious nonetheless. We got a dozen of the mochi ice cream balls to bring as dessert to a friend's sushi night, and I tried a handful of flavors (strawberry, green tea and lychee) that were so light and tasty. I knocked off one star because I felt the mochi ice cream was on the pricey side. I'll definitely be back when I'm in the mood for a tropical dessert!
(4)Jackie N.
Love mochi ice cream but damn it's so pricey. They got alot of flavors. I love the mango and lychee flavor
(3)Robbie S.
5 stars for the mochi!! Only thing I've ever gotten there but that's perfectly fine with me. (Pro tip: let them thaw out a little before you dig in! )
(5)Scott F.
They have just changed to summer hours, which are greatly expanded: yelp.com/biz_photos/jimb… They import "Bubbies" mochi-covered ice cream from Hawaii. It's maybe 20% better than the mochi-covered ice cream at Trader Joe's; the mochi is more snappy, less mushy, and seems to compliment the ice cream better. It's also pricey: $6 for 3 pieces. In comparison, the ice cream mochi at Trader Joe's is 6 smaller pieces for $3.50. I got chocolate espresso, guava, and mango. The mango was excellent: yelp.com/biz_photos/jimb… The other flavors were OK, but not worth the price. Timing is key. You need to let the mochi sit out for exactly 6 minutes for the ice cream to get slightly soft: but if you wait 8 minutes, it's too soft.
(4)Tracy T.
Highlights - Ice cream mochi, shaved ice, ice cream, and more sweets. - Bubbies ice cream mochi from Hawaii in a variety of flavors is served here, plus a special flavor of the month that rotates. - I got their coconut ice cream with real young coconut shreds, so creamy and delicious. - Favorite flavor of ice cream mochi is the passion fruit flavor. Very tart and unique. Improvements - 3 mochi for $5.95. Pricey. Skip strawberry and guava, strawberry is normal like the kind you can find in supermarkets and guava was really bland. Tips Parking is not hard in this area, you can always circle around to find a spot in the neighborhoods.
(4)David W.
I haven't had real shaved ice from Hawaii so I might be judging too harshly... Its $3 for a small shaved ice and you get to choose 2 flavors! They're gracious with the portion. The small is definitely enough to feed 2 and I tried POG (Passionfruit, orange guava) and Tiger's Blood (watermelon, strawberry, and a hint of coconut). POG was definitely the better flavor. Still, it got pretty nasty the more and more I ate into it. As the ice melted, I felt like I was just drinking syrup. They had a $3.50 for minimum credit card purchase. Seems like they purposely make those who just want a small shaved ice buy something more....lame... Tried their mochi. PRICEY! 3 for 6 bucks! Got the lychee, guava, and mango flavors! Gosh, they were ROCK hard when I got them. Had to wait for them to soften up and even then, they were hard to eat. Lychee was my favorite, but it would have tasted way better if the texture was at the right temperature when served....
(2)Jan P.
OH MY GAWD, Bubbies ice cream mochi shipped directly from Hawaii!!!!!! The ice cream mochis are seriously amazing. They're frozen so you have to let them thaw a bit or else they're quite hard. The high quality ice cream is what makes the mochis so good -- the flavors are smooth and strong and there are real fruit bits. The lychee, lilikoi (or passionfruit), and guava are real gems. My coworkers loved the strawberry and chocolate coconut. These are so good because of the variety of flavors. The more you buy, the cheaper they are -- the best pricing is 12 pieces for $20. You can bring them home (if going directly) and keep them in the freezer to enjoy at a later time. Anyway, Jimbo's is more like an ice-cream parlor that sells Bubbies mochi ice cream as well as regular ice cream and shaved ice and other desserts. There were some other bagged snacks that you would typically be able to find in Hawaii, such as caramel popcorn and japanese crackers. I've only had the Bubbies here. Service was a tad slow, but friendly, and they do accept plastic. Don't attempt to park in the heart of Japantown at lunch time; instead, park closer to the First Street side and thus, you won't have circle around looking for a spot.

Gahhh So my friend and I came here today and each ordered the jimbo roll, expecting it to look like the picture on yelp where the ingredients looked fresh, the hot dog looked thoroughly cooked, and the sauce was drizzled on the outside. THAT looked good, and THAT was what we wanted to try. Instead, we got semi-cooked hotdogs with seemingly a fraction of the sauce on the inside of the rolls, and everything else inside all looked similar in color, which is a sign that the ingredients aren't fresh, or makes them at least seem not fresh. Food isn't just about taste, it's also about presentation. It actually DOES matter if your food looks bad, because that can be the difference between a two- and three-star review on yelp... Eck, so that was about $9 that I regret spending on essentially a half-raw hot dog with some rice and seaweed. Definitely not worth the cost, and is what makes me need to mention it in this review. If it was a third of the price, I would have gotten what I paid for and I wouldn't be that disappointed, I just wouldn't order it again. So then I thought, hey, they must have a lot of good reviews for some reason! Why not try their mochi? I ordered three--the first three on the list, flavors which I haven't seen being offered anywhere else, and was expecting to be blown away. I was definitely blown away, but only because the mochi were like little blocks of ice. We had to wait for them to thaw to even take a bite of them..which may be on account of us getting them only an hour or so after they opened? Not sure, but again, not worth the money. Not worth the money not because they were bad, because they weren't. They tasted fine, and the flavors weren't bad after they melted a bit. They weren't worth the $5-whatever because I have had mochi at many other establishments, and it has never costed so much. I am willing to come back to try the mochi again, and will update this review to hopefully give it more stars in the event that the mochi is not FROZEN solid next time I order it...but not because I like this mochi over other mochi I've tried, because I definitely don't. This place will NOT become my go-to place for anything, and my next visit will solely be to try the rest of the flavors that are not offered elsewhere, then I will not be returning. For the sake of this business, I will not directly give the name of another business that is not too far away that offers (better of) the same desserts and more for a cheaper price, but for the sake of people who are broke but still desperately want mochi, I'm telling you to do some research because THERE ARE OTHER OPTIONS!! If you like the mochi here for whatever reason, that's fine, I am not here to make you feel bad. I don't want to make the owners feel bad, but hopefully they will read this and realize that something is off and fix it for their future customers. I'm not an unreasonable person, but I can't stand spending the little money I have on things that are really not worth it, and I don't see them doing anything so differently that I would want to come back regularly.
(2)Rocky B.
I guess it's OK? I haven't really tried any other Mochi Ice cream places, so I can't really compare how it is supposed to taste. Came here recently, and tried the Lychee, Strawberry and some other ones I can't remember. All of them tasted quite tasty and actually satisfied my hunger, despite how small they looked. The place itself was nice and small, with only a few tables which was fine, since there was hardly anybody else while I was in with my GF and a friend. Service was friendly, and were able to answer any questions. Prices seemed decent from what I remember as well. Good place, and parking around here is not bad, but just not my cup of tea to go out of my way just for some Mochi.
(3)Kenitha Y.
Finally got to try out this place after dinner and I wasn't disappointed. They had a variety of flavors so we opted for the 12 piece deal. They also offer ice cream from Marianne's, a bunch of sweets, beer, and some snack options. Unfortunately I was too full to try the hot dog roll (which surprisingly looks really really good). Possibly next time. I'll definitely be back. Note - don't eat the mochi right away because they were hard as rocks. I'd let them thaw out for 5 to 10 minutes before trying.
(4)Sheila B.
Such a cute shop! This store is located in Japantown. The owner is super cute and friendly. Very welcoming! They have a wide selection of mochi ice creams (so hard to pick). Usually I would get the pistachio, guava, and vanilla. They also have a sampler plate for ice cream cones. Such a cute display of it too. Rainbow sherbet, green tea, blueberry, vanilla, and a peachy flavor? Can't remember the last flavor I got haha. But the mini cones came out on a tray displaying all of them. Will definitely come back to try all the other flavors!
(5)Judy S.
YAAAASSS! I finally found a place that sells real mochi ice cream. I wanted to try Jimbo's for the longest time. I came here after a Sunday brunch w/ my family and I ordered 6 mochi ice creams for $9.95. I tried lychee, mango, guava, vanilla, green tea, & strawberry - they ALL taste great! One of the workers - I didn't get his name, but he's a white guy lol - suggested to wait a few minutes for the mochi to soften. Not a problem since I was feeding my 3 year old son ice cream because God knows this child has butterfingers and will drop anything, anywhere, anytime. *sighpie* 5 minutes later, I couldn't hold my temptation any longer and took my first bite into the "bubbies." SO DELICIOUS! I was literally moaning through each bite and my husband thought I was crazy (lmao). But he so totally agrees with me that Jimbo's is a lot better than Mochicream in mitsuwa marketplace. This place is a little run down & small, but it's perfect for a quick sweet treat. I'd definitely come back again! :)
(5)Katy W.
Though the mochi ice cream are not made in the house, it is still very good. For around $6 ( tax included), you get three pieces of mochi ice cream. At first, they are frozen, but if you wait a min or so, they will start soften up. The flavors my friend and I picked are: ( also see picture) Chocolate Coconut Azuki Bean Strawberry Vanilla Pistachio I would highly recommend getting your mochi ice cream here if you are craving for some or simply wanting something sweet after dinner. Though the place is small, it's a very open space and there are tables both on the outside and inside. It's also a great place to go on a quick dessert date or pick up something sweet on your way home. And, the mochi ice cream are shipped straight up Hawaii, so they are guaranteed good! Restroom: Yes. There is one restroom there and if you need it, just ask one of the cashiers for the key. Customer Service: They are all really nice! And, they always offer to cut up the mochi ice cream for you ( if you want). Tip: They do have water there ( for free). Just ask the cashier and they will give you water ( those ice cream can get you pretty thirsty) Overall, IT'S A GREAT PLACE TO SATISFY YOU MOCHI ICE CREAM CRAVINGS!

Jimbo's is a breath of fresh air for San Jose. The first time I came here when it just opened was amazing, and coming back recently, it's just as good. You can't really describe in words what Jimbo's is. I'm pretty sure Jimbo can't either. I could be wrong, but it's like a taste of Hawaii in good ol' San Jose Japantown. Like, someone who's lived in Hawaii their entire life just bringing back their favorite snacks and setting up shop. That's literally what Jimbo's is. Jimbo's offers a wide variety of products from local Santa Cruz ice cream to imported Hawaiian mochi ice cream to traditional shaved ice (not snow ice, like most Asian places are carrying today) to hot dogs. I can't make rhyme nor reason about their business approach, but whatever they're doing, it's doing pretty well. I come here purely for their mochi. While I have yet to give the items a chance (which I ought to), I can say that their mochi ice cream is spot on. It's imported, I understand, but they provide a decent variety of mochi. Granted, the prices are quite high, but I haven't had better mochi ice cream. Always look out for the monthly flavors: those are the winners. My only major gripe with this place is its erratic hours, so be sure to check the time before you come here. Otherwise, enjoy this little gem of a shop in San Jose Japantown. TIP: The mochi ice cream.

Time: 11:27am/71°F cloudy Purpose: On my way for a client meeting down the street. Set-up: Place is your usual standard ice cream dessert kinda place. Sidewalk seating a few tables inside a flat screen couple more tables. A few items on counter for your picking. Really not that fancy by comparison. Staff: Caucasian girl bundle hair with glasses seems very nervous, don't know why. I guess there was a briefing about revenue or her performance. Helpful but stands there looking at you after I said I'm still deciding, annoying. Cleanliness: A grade of C+ Eats/Drinks: Three pack ice cream mochi $5.95, water & chips combo $1.50, scoop of young coconut ice cream $3.50. Nothing was amazing as I'm spoiled type from SF Japanese snack snob markets. Chips were Frito Lays original chips, water is crystal geyser. Coconut ice cream could pass for store bought Magnolia version. Lastly mochi was okay but not that wow factor as it was kinda boring, maybe it was me. You can honestly get the same at TJ's so comparing it would be a far reach. Products/Services: Rice bowls, cookies, combos, hot dogs, chips, marianne's ice cream, ice cream, toppings, bubbies mochis, cold drinks/juices, beer, pastries, custom ice cream sandwich. Jimbos interior focus on Asian and Asian American people, display changes throughout the year. Punch Lines: Quiet street, Japan town of SJ, restaurants, spa, grocery stores, school, auto shop, specialty vintage/antique. Meter parking, city bikeshare, pretty peaceful atmosphere. Tradeoffs: Only thing that made the place a standout is their mochi's bubbies. All other items can be had elsewhere also. Final Thoughts: Don't get your hopes high going here. It's basically a snack shop that try to cover savory eats to balance all that sweets. Pretty ideal but I seldom frequent places like that. Never the less I'll give them a 4.2 stars.
(4)Lorrie M.
I've been to Bubbie's or ... something in Hawaii so Jimbo's was a real treat when I first discovered this spot in Japantown. They basically are similarly formatted (although not as many varieties) as the popular mochi spots in Hawaii, particularly because they also serve ice cream. To be fair, since places like this don't really exist, Jimbo's is pretty good in terms of variety, and their mochi's are good! They definitely have great flavors and most of them are fairly delicious although I wasn't a big fan of their passion fruit. They also serve regular foods, which I've see on the menu, but I have not gotten any. Definitely love the ice cream here!
(5)Eli Y.
Whoever was like, "hey... today I'm going to create this thing called mochi..." and then whoever decided to put ice cream in it...are basically the two best people ever. The person who then decided to open up Jimbo's and sell some bomb mochi is pretty high on my list of favorites too! You can't really go wrong with any flavor, but the green tea is probably my favorite. I'd say get a bunch and sample with your friends, or...eat them all yourself. Hey no judgement! I'd go earlier so they are at the freshest. They can get a bit tougher the later in the day. So go and get your mochi on! And if you don't know what mochi is...please...stop reading this review, raise your dominant hand, and slap yourself as hard as you can in the face every hour on the hour til you've gone to Jimbo's.
(4)Cary I.
Love supporting small businesses. Specially in Japantown. Been coming here for a while now and never fails to please. Sometimes they have home baked goods like cookies and other snacks so it's never the same for me. This time I actually tried a hotdog and it was quite tasty. Loved the wasabi sauce that was on it.
(5)MyTien P.
Came here after eating dinner next door at the SJ Omogari Restaurant. I was anticipating to try this place because I have a big love for Mochi Ice Cream and want to try as many flavors as possible! We ordered the Green Tea, Chocolate Mint, and Mango. My personal favorite was the Chocolate Mint. It had a chocolate coating on the outside and once you take a bite in to it, you can see the green mint chocolate chip ice cream in the inside. Yum!! I enjoyed all the flavors and can't wait to come back to try more!

Of course dinner wouldn't be complete without dessert. We were looking at the dessert menu at Shaburi, then noticed an ice cream store across the street. We decided to risk it and try that place instead, and needless to say we made a good choice. We looked at the mochi options as well as the ice cream options. At the end we decided to try coconut, chocolate, strawberry, and passion fruit mochis. Now at first I was wondering if I was supposed to wait for it to defrost or eat it immediately...we eventually found out by ourselves. The first few mochis we ate immediately...it was ice damn cold! However the flavour was still there. So we decided to wait for it to defrost and order some unique ice cream in the meantime, which was just as good (I forgot the exact ice cream we ordered though). After the ice cream, we tried the mochi again. Mmmmmmm so creamy! Also it was just sweet enough (I don't like mochi that is too sweet or not sweet enough). Obviously I wouldn't come here for a full blown meal next time I'm in the bay area, but for dessert if I'm eating in Japantown this place easily fits the sweetness criteria.

This has become my new favorite place for mochi ice cream and Marianne's ice cream! Their mochi ice cream comes in various flavors- some of my favorites are the pistachio, lychee, and green tea flavors. They serve it to you frozen, that sometimes I can't devour it as fast as I'd like to without my mouth getting numb. But, anyhow, it still tastes good. I've had Marianne's ice cream a few times that I've gone in as well. I've tried out the mango, strawberry, and coconut flavors. If you've had Marianne's ice cream before, you know that they're usually creamy with lots of flavor. The coconut flavor does have real coconut strips in it, that it like you're eating a coconut at the same time! What I like about this place too is that they make their own baked goods! We've gotten their bag of mixed crackers (it has chex, pretzels, kix cereal, and other stuff). It has a good flavor of sweet and salty, with nice crunch throughout. We always leave with a bag in hand when we go. Overall, I like this place and it's always nice to get a little treat of bubbies mochi ice cream and a scoop of one of Marianne's ice cream when we venture down Japantown.

I was so excited to try out Jimbo's because I always love getting mochi when I'm in Hawaii. I'm a big fan of Bubbies&I heard this was similar so I was excited to take the boy here for our first time. It was super dead when we went (on a Friday night). We got 2 mango, one vanilla, chocolate espresso, chocolate mint, &green tea. Oh my gosh these things were rock solid when they gave it to us! I honest thought I chipped my tooth biting into it. At one point, we dropped the mochi back in the cup&it sounded like we dropped a rock in there instead. We had to wait 20 minutes for it to be at least pliable. Plus these things were so much more expensive than the ones in Hawaii. The flavor of the mango was like sour too, it was so weird. The rest were pretty okay but it hurt my jaw too much to eat it.

BUBBIES!! Every time I go to Hawaii, I have to go to Bubbies there. They specialize in mochi ice cream (pounded sticky rice filled with ice cream). I was sad going back home because I thought the only place you could get them on the Mainland was Whole Foods. And the Bubbies there are always totally frost bitten since they don't cycle fast enough. And there's only two flavors at the most. But... Jimbo's is here to save the day! Not only do they serve temperature correct Bubbies (just let them thaw a few minutes), they have tons of flavors! Mango, lychee, green tea, coffee... just to name a few. And they always have a flavor of the month. Their flavor for March is Mint Oreo. So good! But not only that, they also serve Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz! Woo hoo! They also make their own sweet and savory trail mix. And their homemade butter mochi is a treat! There's even BEER here. Whaaaat?? =O Count me in! Such a cute ice cream shop. Great for anyone with a sweet tooth!

Had the sampler (the one with 5 cones). It was pretty good and really hit the spot after lunch in Japantown. The 5 cones were a perfect amount for 4 people to share, especially when we each did not want to eat a lot. The flavors are pretty good, but not as creamy as I would like. I didn't try the macaroons though. However, I wouldn't say this is the best ice cream I've ever had, but it is certainly not the worst. Better than your average ice cream chain shop.

Mochi here is okay. I was excited so I decided to try a bunch of flavors. Guava - This fell flat for me. It was so bland, you couldn't really tell it was guava. Chocolate mint - It wasn't very flavorful. It was lacking the chocolate and the mint taste. Peanut butter - Not a peanut butter fan myself but my bf likes Reese's cups and it actually tasted similar. If you're a fan of peanut butter, it's worth a try. Chocolate espresso - This was good. I would order this again. Plus I love coffee. Lychee - I liked this too. You can tell it was lychee. Pistachio - My friend loves nuts and this met her expectations. Passion fruit - My favorite! It was tart and sweet. Very flavorful. I wanted more. Some had a better chewy texture and consistency and some seemed like they've been in the freezer for a long time and lost flavor, so it's the timing and luck of the what you order. It's quite pricey. Not sure if I would come back.

Loves their twist on the musubi's and replaced the spam with the hog dogs. Why didn't I think of that! Kinda expensive for a nori wrapped hot dog but it was fun to try. We also ate their chili bowl and it was totally bachelor food right there! Canned chili over rice with hot dogs and Fritos? Kids approved so My hubby and I were happy! Then off to the ice cream... I was so excited to order the 5 sample mini cones cause it was a great way to have a bit of everything yet a perfect serving for the kids. I felt like I got gyp on the ice cream... From the yelp pics most ppl got 2 mini scoops and I only got half scoop each. :( I think maybe because he was new. The ice cream of coarse being from Marianne's was great bit sucked cause it was actually more expensive getting 5 half mini scoops of ice cream. Mochi ice cream was very good.. The place in mitsuwa market is better though. Oh and those puffs they make are Carmel heaven! I wished it was a better experience I would've driven from Milpitas back but for now... The search continues.

Green Tea, pistachio, and strawberry bubbies/mochi flavors are sooo good here! These are made in Hawaii and shipped here I believe once a month. Sometimes they have some special flavors such as thin mint, so heads up! I tried the lychee, passion fruit, mango, passion fruit, and guava here, and I would have to strongly recommend the green tea, pistachio, and strawberry flavors. The hours are a little obscure here as they are closed on Mondays and open at 5:30 on Tuesdays and other weekdays, so make sure they're open before you make a trip here! Also, another note is to let the mochi thaw a little before you dig in, otherwise your teeth will really hurt from the frozen temperature! It's also pricey here as 6 bubbies are $8.95 and a dozen are around $14.95, so this is really an occasional treat. Definitely going to come back and be a regular here, though!
(5)Christine S.
After dinner at SJ Omogari Restaurant, my friend and I decided to come to Jimbo's for some dessert. For about $5, you get to pick three mochis to eat. You have to buy them in 3, 6, or 12 mochis at once. We got mango, strawberry, and green tea, and they're all nice and cold (perfect for a warm/hot day). The place is really clean and bright. It's perfect to get dessert after a nice dinner!
(4)Jenn W.
Tasty mochi ice creams, on par with the OG Mikawaya. I got mango, green tea, and lychee flavors, all of which surprised me with the strong/legitimate flavors. They were a little bit on the frozen side when I got them, but a few minutes out in the open made the texture just right. 3 for $4.95 is on the pricy side, especially considering Mikawaya's are bigger and only $1 each. But I guess they have no competition up here (yet?) so price will remain high-ish for awhile.

Jimbo's serves Bubbies Homemade Ice Cream, which has been around for over 27 years. They have been manufacturing super-premium mochi ice cream in the beautiful setting of the Hawaiian islands. Mochi ice cream is a combination of creamy gourmet ice cream wrapped in a sweetened rice confection, all resulting in a delectable bite-sized, one and a quarter ounce ball of happiness. Jimbos offers multiple flavors that will satisfy any palate, from chocolate coconut, my favorite, to pistachio, lychee, watermelon and guava, to name a few. They typically have new flavors every few weeks, so returning here always results in a surprise. The part owner, Steve is a sweet man that is genuinely happy to serve. All of their staff is very nice and I've never had an unpleasant experience. The interior is nothing special, but that is not a problem as our mochi ice cream is devoured in seconds, so we usually don't stay for more than a few minutes. We are so lucky to have such a treat within walking distance to our home. We keep telling our sleeves that we will try some of their other offerings, but we can never get past the mochi, yes it's that amazing. Jimbo's is perfectly located in the heart of Japan town, so it's perfect to stop in for dessert after a great meal in the area!
(5)Sam A.
I really don't know how to write a review for this place, but I'll give it a try. Think of a standard small ice cream shop, but while they have regular ice cream, it's their mochi that takes the cake. It's really good. And speaking of cake, they even have some kind of mochi cake. I don't really remember the name of it, but it's delicious. The guy who works the counter was also very friendly. Just walk there for desert after eating at one of the great nearby restaurants. (Shout out to Minato) You won't regret it.
(5)Edward W.
We were eating next door and my girlfriend noticed this place. At first, we couldn't believe that it was selling Bubbies since we thought we would never get to eat it again unless we went back to Hawaii. Turns out, this place overnight ships Bubbies ice cream once a week so it is as fresh as it gets outside of Hawaii. The price is 3 pieces for $4.95 and I don't think there is an option of buying less than 3. The strawberry dark chocolate was my favorite in Hawaii so I ordered it here also. Yup, still just as good.
(4)Christine N.
I have been waiting to try this place for a while and today was finally the day. This place is only opened from 5-9pm on most weekdays. I was there when the place opened at 5pm and there was already a bunch of people rushing in to get their ice cream. Business is kinda slow but totally wait-able. There's a 3-6-12 deal: 3 for $5.95 and 12 for $17.95. Definitely went for the 12. Sharing half with my sister, I got 6 (passionfruit, guava, pistachio, lychee, azuki bean and green tea). All of them were good but my favorites were LYCHEE and GREEN TEA. The first few ones were pretty frozen so if you don't like chewing it while it's hard, just wait a minute or two. Note: they also have Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz with lots of unique flavored to try!

Love this little ice cream shop! Conveniently in an area that are great for family outings after lunch or dinner to pick up dessert and walk around. Boyfriend and I came here to stroll the strip to some of the street wear clothing brands and stopped by for some shaved ice because it was a hot day. I got the small (big enough for 2-3 people) added on vanilla ice cream and condensed. I forgot the flavors I chose but you can see the picture I have attached. Whatever it was it was delicious and my boyfriend and I couldn't even finish it. They do come in 2 sizes small or large--small $5 and large is $7 additional toppings are $1. I also have had their mochi balls and those are good too! Gotta wait for like 10 minutes to defrost once it is handed to you--no biggie good timing to catch up with your friends or significant other. It's worth the wait because if you bite into right away it's hard as a rock! The shop itself inside is small nice with a TV and also have 1-2 tables seating outside. Will be back for more shaved ice and mochi balls this summer!!

Another nice find in San Jose's Japantown. The lure here is the Bubbie's Homemade Mochi Ice Cream that is actually from Hawaii and shipped here weekly. The mochi are available in a nice variety of flavors (over 10 by my count) and all were available when I visted. You purchase the mochi ice cream in 3's (3 for $4.95) but are allowed to mix and match as much as you like. When they're served, they are completely frozen, but if you have the patience to wait for 5 minutes, they thaw nicely and you'll have a great treat. (similar to Mochicream from Japan that is also shipped frozen) I tried the passion fruit, green tea, and lychee and particularly enjoyed the high quality but thin covering of mochi and the premium ice cream. Supposedly, Bubbie's is available at high end groceries like Andronico's and Draeger's but the young crowd here probably doesn't know that nor do those places necessarily stock all the flavors they have here while allowing you to mix and match. Overall, I enjoyed trying Jimbo's. Very friendly Mom and Pop shop that is known for their imported mochi ice cream, but has some interesting hot dog/sausage combos (think Japadog) and rice bowls too. Jimbo's accepts credit cards, but not American Express and over a reasonable minimum of $3.50.

Natto bowl! Yum. The small natto bowl comes with a lot of rice, a lot of natto, pickled cucumbers and takuan. The shaved ice is good - the syrup is very flavorful. My kids enjoyed the flavors. They are very friendly here. Thanks for the awesome service! Will definitely return when we are in San Jose again.

Old school Asian Fusion always brings a smile to my face. This place serves Japanese style hot dogs, rice bowls, and a whole lot of different kinds of mochis. While the beef franks are nothing special -- in fact I can probably pan-fry a better tasting one -- it's the combinations that shine. There is the teriyaki hot dog, which has onions with teriyaki sauce as toppings, and then there is the Jimbo roll, which is a hot dog wrapped in nori seaweed and rice and some sauce. Both are borderline junk food and yet so delicious. After all that, what better to wash down the taste of hot dogs with some outstanding imported Hawaiian mochi? There are a bazillion different flavours to pick from, so choose your favourite. The mochis come served in a little bamboo boat with bamboo toothpicks -- a nice touch for a small shop like this. This is a mom and pop shop that survives between the cracks of authenticity and sugar high. It's the sort of neighborhood place that we can all support ;)

Cute little shop in San Jose's Japantown! Choices of ice cream and mochi ice cream (FROM HAWAII!!) They have good variety of flavors (of all food), nice portion sizes and friendly service! It was $6.95 for 3 pieces of mochi. I got pistachio, guava, and mango. Out of the three, pistachio was my ultimate favorite and I wished guava had a little more flavor; mango was your typical mango mochi ice cream. Haven't been to Hawaii to try bubbies but this is the next best thing! Cool to try and might come back depending on my cravings. Tip: Wait for mochi ice cream to defrost for up to 10 minutes, you can really enjoy it that way.

After reading rave reviews about this place, I decided to try it out after dinner with a friend. We ordered three mochi balls, a mango for each of us and a strawberry dark chocolate to share. Based on the old pictures posted here, pricing has gone up. Three mochi's costed us about $6. Two dollars for a mochi is a bit on the pricier side of what I'd like to pay for a dessert this small. Pictures on yelp made it look bigger than it actually is. Service was great. I asked a plastic knife to cut the mochi in half with, but our server offered to cut it in half for us. Nice! Now to deconstruct the dessert (after letting it thaw for about 10-15 minutes): 1) Mochi skin - Taste was good, but texture was sub par. It was on the thinner side and was not chewy. It held a firmer texture. Mochi in my opinion should be like chewing soft gummy-like clouds. 2) Filling - Both ice cream flavors were great and had a smooth texture. Just the way I like it. The mango was really good. The fruit flavor really came through without being overly sweet. All in all, I've had better mochi elsewhere for a cheaper price. I would like to return to try their other flavors, but I'm not sure if paying $2 per mochi is justified enough for me. I might come back to try their Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz.
(3)Katherine C.
I'm not a fan of mochi, but my friend was craving mochi ice cream and so we stopped by here on the way home. After I saw all the different flavors, I couldn't help but want to try them all despite my non-preference of mochi. I chose 6 different flavors for about $9. After eating them all, Jimbo's has definitely converted me. I had: mango pistachio guava ultimate chocolate strawberry dark chocolate chip chocolate peanut butter My absolute favorite is guava. It is so incredibly yummy. I would love to go back and get 6 of those. I'm a huge fan of chocolate and they were very good too. I didn't get to eat the ultimate chocolate one though. My dog stole that one and ate it (don't worry, she's completely fine). All the flavors I got were very good. Along with the kind older man that worked there, Jimbo's is a very sweet place.
(5)Kieu T.
I can only speak for the mochi. The service is friendly, and there's a variety of mochi ice cream to choose from. They come from Hawaii, so they have to be frozen. To really enjoy them, you should wait 5 minutes for them to properly thaw before biting into them. It's hard to resist, but definitely worth the wait! My favorite flavors are the mango, green tea, and red bean.
(5)Sammy C.
Love their ice cream mochis from Hawaii! So fresh and not too sweet; I don't like the ones with too much sweets. Too bad they don't open every day though!
(4)Matthew P.
I drive all the way from Santa Cruz to eat here sometimes. I don't know what ritual they use to craft that shave ice, but that stuff is amazing. Hands down best dessert I have ever eaten. Mochi was also great but shave ice really takes the cake.
(5)Chantel M.
Jimbos! Also known as Bubbies in Hawaii. This place is known for their mochi ice cream. Not so much their lunch menu which I think is underrated. They serve hot sushi rolls which are amazingly good! As for the mochis, my favorites are their green tea & their seasonal pumpkin. Both soooo good! Only sucky thing about this spot is that they don't sell their mochis individually. The minimum you can purchase is 3.
(4)Angel K.
I'm a sucker for mochi ice cream, so when I saw the sign for Jimbo's I couldn't help but stop in to try a couple. The green tea mochi was so delicious, I could probably eat 6 of those by myself. All the other flavors we tried were not that great. I wasn't a fan of the peanut butter, coconut (although my friends enjoyed this one), chocolate and the guava one tasted really weird. I'm also in love with rice krispies, so when I saw one sitting in the display, I had to have it! It was a green tea flavored rice krispy, and I have to say, I was not a fan of this one. It didn't taste like green tea to me, in fact, I didn't know what it tasted like. I ate as much of it as I could stand, but ended up having to throw it away. Interesting that they have beer here! The boys got beer, while the girls snacked on treats. Parking in this area is hard to find, I wouldn't come here unless I was already in the area for something else.
(3)Hurnan V.
I am a HUGE green tea fan for whatever type of dessert! We came here after dinner, and ordered the green tea macaron and green tea mochi ice cream. All were spot on; you could really taste a slight bitterness to all the sweet of green tea. However, I gave the green tea ice cream a try -- and was sorely disappointed. The ice cream was more like vanilla with a very, very slight hint of green tea. It tasted like the generic green tea ice cream you can get from the supermarket or something. I was not a fan, based on the sample I had. The staff was also very friendly! They seemed knowledgeable about their desserts when we asked them for suggestions for next time. This place is also very well-kept. Great hangout spot for friends and family! One thing to watch out for is that the parking is difficult along this street around dinnertime. Might have to park farther, but totally worth it! :)
(4)Kim D.
Yes! I've had this place on my bookmark taunting me for awhile. Came here after my 408k race. 11AM on a Sunday, we were the only ones here. Ordered the 6 piece mochi set ($9.95..wow a bit pricey) - Mango: My least favorite. It took awhile to get the mango flavor then when you did, left me underwhelmed. I felt the ones you can buy in the grocery store tasted better. - Passion Fruit: tart! The flavor really pops. I liked this enough. - Peanut Butter: bf chose this flavor and he liked it immensely. If you like peanut butter, this should do a good job. - Strawberry Chocolate Chip: didn't taste much strawberry. The chocolate chip flavor stood out and I like me my chocolate so I liked this - Lychee: Subtle flavors. It was light and I liked but didn't love it. - Guava: The cash registered favorite flavor. I love guava flavors so I had to try. It was more subtle than I wished for but I did really like it. I would definitely return to this place and would love to try all the other flavors provided. But the prices are a bit high for the bubbies. I didn't love it THAT much to be a regular.
(4)Erlinda R.
Oh my, Oh my, Why did I discover this place? Because now it's yummy flavors, I chase. If Mochi Ice Cream is new to you, Then I suggest that you pass on through! When you get your Mochi Ice Cream, let it soften, Then be prepared to let all the goodness happen! Green Tea & Guava flavors are to to die for, & Marianne's Ice Cream will have you screaming for MORE!
(5)Lucy D.
I seriously love this mom and pop shop that offers mochi ice cream and other delicious deserts. Pros: Service: the workers and owners are super friendly. The workers are also really helpful with picking out items. Desserts: if you go here, it's a much to try their mochi ice cream, which hey offer a variety of flavors to satisfy your sweet tooth. I also like the assortment of desserts they offer daily, it's great that they are always putting out different items/flavors daily. Savory dogs: I tried the jimbos dog which is a hotdog accompanied by a hot sauce, takuan which is pickled daikon radish wrap, rice wrapped in seaweed. It looks small on pictures, but the portion is huge. My boyfriend and I got full from just sharing one. This is the go to place when you in San Jose Japantown when in you're in need of a quick savory bite or indulgent dessert.
(5)Brenda L.
We ordered the Dale and Chip ice cream sampler which allows you to try five different Marianne's Santa Cruz ice cream on tiny sugar cones. We tried the mint chocolate chip, blueberry, green tea, mango and 1 other flavor I cannot remember. All of the flavors were surprising and did not taste as I expected. The uniqueness of the taste of their ice cream was refreshing. I also tried the chocolate coconut, watermelon and guava mochi. Their ice cream mochi does not taste like the ones you get in the frozen food aisle in Asian stores. It is much fresher and much tastier. The color pop because of the contrast of the interior ice cream and the outside mochi. Their mochi is beat thinner than the kind you get at the grocery store. Their service is also amazing. The man behind the counter was so friendly and smiley. I would definitely come back again!
(5)Annie M.
I had to go see what all the hype was about with the ice cream mochi. Apparently they are called bubbies & they come from Hawaii. I thought they'd taste like the ones you buy frozen at the Asian supermarket, but oh was I wrong! I ended up ordering 3 different flavors to share with the hubs: lychee, passionfruit & strawberry dark chocolate chip. First off, I love how you can mix up what flavors you wanted! Each bubbie was so distinct with its flavor & oh so delicious! I almost didn't wanna share with the hubs, but I was nice lol. I loved that the skin was soft & chewy while the ice cream was more frozen. I don't know how they keep it that way, but it's awesomesauce! I will definitely come back to try more flavors of bubbies, especially guava!
(4)Tiffany H.
Mmmm! Mochi ice cream?! Yum! I tried the green tea, passion fruit, and lychee mochi ice creams! It was really good. My favorite was the lychee and green tea one though. The passion fruit one is good for people that like something sour. You get them either 3,6, or 9 pieces. The 3 piece was about $6 which is pretty pricy. The texture was good though and was chewy. The ice cream was creamy. Overall, I really liked this place other than it being pretty pricey for a average sized mochi.
(4)Cynthia C.
Ok I love bubbies. I'm ashamed to admit that I've eaten 18 in one sitting. Yes my name is Cynthia and I'm a bubbies junkie. I've been extremely lucky that bubbies is in Hawaii and I can't get my hands on it easily. This has prevented me from being FAT but.... now Jimbos carries BUBBIES!!! argh this is not going to be good for my waist but my stomach is sooooo happy. tastes just like they do in hawaii!!!! Mochi + ice cream! what a deadly and perfect combo!! two of my favorite things. Will be a regular here until I can't fit into my pants anymore!
(5)Marissa L.
bubbies mochi!!! need i say more? the store is located in J-town and always has a welcome feel. i haven't tried anything other than the bubbies but they also serve shave ice and ice cream.
(4)Morgan R.
Love their mochi!!! We came in for dessert after lunch and got the 12 pieces Mochi pack so try an array of flavors. My favorites were the Lychee, Guava and Chocolate Peanut Butter. Highly recommend coming here if you are craving Mochi or want to try it for the first time! I agree with a few other yelpers to make sure you wait for the mochi to defrost a few minutes before diving in. They were pretty hard when they were first served to us, but after a few minutes of sitting in room temperature they were good to go.
(5)Alyssa F.
This place is pretty good! Their mochi is fairly big & their chili cheese frito dog is filling. If you've been to Mariannes ice cream shop in Santa Cruz, they have it here too! I had a hard time deciding if I should get mariannes ice cream or mochi.. Lol The service here is great! The guy that was working there was very friendly & he came over to my table to give me the mochi & food. I believe this place doesn't have air conditioning though.
(5)Jannette A.
Favorite place to go to after having lunch or dinner! I will never get tired of getting Jimbo's mochi ice cream. The owner are friendly and nice! Love it! Definitely recommending this place to everyone!
(5)Bianca M.
Bubbies! I am in love with these, they're so good. I wish I had a Jimbo's in SF.. My boyfriend and I got 6 bubbies, a teri dog, and chili bowl. I regret not trying the jimbo roll. I am so sad. Don't be like me and have regrets. Try it if you want! The teri dog was an interesting mix.. Half white (the hot dog) and half asian (the seaweed and onions). Pretty interesting flavour combination but overall a unique dog. If you want to be adventurous with your taste buds I say give this one a try. The chili bowl cool. It's chili, sliced hot dogs, and chili Fritos on top. It's a good snack and the Fritos add a wonderful crunch to the mix [: I still regret not trying the Jimbo roll. As for the bubbies, they served them to us after we finished the little snacks. We got green tea, strawberry, passion fruit, coconut pineapple, guava, and mango. They were frozen well and maintained a good texture throughout consumption. I love these. The mochi ice cream were pretty big too. It's 6 for $5.95, not bad. The place itself is nice and cute. Service is great, really friendly and helpful. I like it here... I wish I could get this in SF. I'd be there every week.
(5)Liz C.
Came here for the first time cause I was craving mochi ice cream. The hours kind of strange but I made it at 2:58 pm when they close at 3 pm. The owners were very nice and asked if I would be eating here even though they were closing. I took it to go though. I got three pieces: green tea, strawberry and mango. All 3 were absolutely divine. Mine were frozen because they had been in the freezer for a while but the owner told me to wait and thaw it for a bit. It tastes good - both frozen and thaw. Glad I got my mochi ice cream fix!
(5)Zerrilyn P.
I'm such a huge fan of Mochi ice cream, and I'm glad I finally got the chance to check this place out! Came here a couple months of ago after dinner with some friends since they were craving ice cream.... For $3.25, I got the three piece Mochi ice cream (yeah, it's expensive especially since the Mochi ice cream aren't huge in size, but it's better than paying $1.35 just for one piece haha...I would have gotten the 6 piece, but my friends were already decided on just having Marianne's ice cream): -PB and choco -Green Tea -Guava -All three flavors were so damn good, but of course, if I had to put them in order of most fave, green tea would be #1, guava #2, and PB and choco #3... -I like the wooden plates they put the Mochi ice cream on haha... -As other fellow Yelpers have said in their reviews, let the Mochi ice cream soften up a bit...I should have done this when I first bit into the PB and choco Mochi...it was hard, and super cold...totally sent that annoying tingling sensation running along my front teeth...errgghh...haha, lesson learned...delicious nonetheless
(5)Jasmine N.
I freakin love mochi ice cream! My brother and I ordered 6 different flavors. All the bubbies are so cute and perfectly round. They all were pretty good. If you are sharing, they can cut it in half for you if you ask them :)
(5)Christina P.
Guava ice cream mochi?! Mochi heaven. Bought $10 worth and shared between 3 people. Was so much fun to try the different flavors! Love this place
(5)Nicole S.
What's so special about mochi ice cream when I can get it at the grocery store? Easy, this is 10x better! The mochi comes straight from Hawaii! They have so many different flavors, my favorites are green tea, pistachio, watermelon, and lychee. They have seasonal flavors throughout the year. If you decide to eat the mochi in the shop make sure to let it thaw a little because it come straight from the freezer. Let the mochi get soft to allow the "heaven in your mouth" effect to take place. The mochi is nice an soft and the ice cream inside is delicious. The male owner is also nice and very talkative. He let us try a sample of their sesame topping. It's good and he said his wife makes it! You can order this as a topping or you can even buy a jar full. I still need to try their sushi hot dog, it looks good in all the pics I've seen.

This place is SOOOO good. if you know anything about BUBBIES MOCHI from hawaii then you will definitely be excited to try this place :) I got the Pistachio, Lychee and Pumpkin. You will not regret these flavors!!!! They are AMAZING!! We also got a Hot Link Rice Bowl, also very tasty :) We will definitely be coming back for more to get our Bubbies islander snack fix!!!!!!

Summer is here! There's no any other better way than eating MOCHI ICE CREAM to celebrate & cool off yourself. Thanks for my collection of yelp bookmark list, I got to finally give this place a try. I walked in the shop and it looked just like a regular ice cream shop, but what caught my attention the most was those fancy & interesting Mochi ice cream flavors that you would never ever get them in kinds grocery stores. We ordered Guava, Pistachio and Green Tea flavors mochi. Guava and Pistachio were equally tasty and green tea was okay just like the one you've got from the kinds grocery store frozen ice cream section. Oh well, if you had a bad urge crazy craving for interesting flavors of Mochi ice cream, this place was def a great place to pay a visit and get your sweet tooth fix. Outside of Mochi was ready chewy and ice cream was pretty good, but not like mind-blowing good if you know what I mean. Overall, interesting Mochi ice cream flavors to eat and try for this place. This place is great, but just not that spectacular.

Man, I had forgotten to rate this place for years. This tyrannical lack of review ends HERE and NOW. I love this place. We always meander down there after enjoying a meal a little down the street. And by "we" I mean "my wife and five year old start forcibly walking down the street and I follow..." Everything I've ever gotten there has been great. Everything. Lisa gets some sort of chocolate or peanut butter ice cream with sesame oil on it. I thought it was weird, but the flavor is really, really delicious. I tend to just get boring ice cream, and it's always delicious. The folks that run it are awesome. I appreciate non-chain places and, in a sea of these types of stores dwindling every day, I think it's important that we support them. They are truly nice people and I wish I could pack more ice cream down the hole and give them more of my money! However, I'll be back often and with a smile.

5 stars for service. 4 stars for food. They have such a crazy selection of mochi ice cream and the guy behind the counter was super patient with us when we were trying to decide. Although i'm not a huge fan of mochi, it was pretty good. I always recommend letting it defrost a bit so that it's less icy when you bit into it, but it was all definitely delicious. They were definitely not ice-box frozen after a couple of minutes of sitting at room temperature. We also ordered the hot dog-sushi roll (jimbo roll?). It was pretty good, although the mochi definitely stole the highlight of this store. They were incredibly accommodating when we asked for half of the roll to not have green onions. I'm astounded that they did that for us. AWESOME customer service. I would go back if I were in the area.

Okay dogs and good, local ice cream. Recommend the 10-20 flavor. But they need to do something about that very nasty odor.
(2)Marisha V.
Tried this place because of yelp- and wasn't disappointed!! The service was great- very friendly and willing to help a mochi newbie! wide variety of mochi flavors- from fruit to more adventurous. Loved the green tea and lycée mochi! Regular ice cream is also available making it a crowd favorite!
(4)Chau L.
Green tea: delicious and amazing Strawberry: ehhh, I'd prefer it if it were a bit tart, it was just sweet and didn't taste like strawberries Guava: smelled really good like real guava but smelled better than it tasted, it was just sweet
(4)Crystal V.
Came back today because my first time I only really remembering liking mango. My go to flavor basically. I had the 6 piece meal and had: mango, 2 guavas, vanilla bleh could skip, strawberry choc, and lychee pretty good. Lots of seating. Their drink options are proudly on display in front of their register. And they proudly serve Marianne's ice cream. A Santa Cruz gem in my opinion. I really came here today in the hopes of buying 12, you know, to save for home? Lol. But 6 really did the trick. And no that I have my favorites written down, I can maybe do a dozen, 2 of the same flavors, for next time. Until, they get their watermelon and honeydew flavors.... Definitely, you need to come down here right now! Like right now right now!
(5)Jeanet C.
Great service and great ice cream. Not high end or anything but definitely good ice cream and friendly staff.
(5)Diane H.
Love their plethora of flavors!! The kids love this place too. I don't like how their prices keep changing though. My favorites were guava, green tea, strawberry, and passionfruit. But overall, RECOMMEND
(4)Charmaine D.
I love this place; it makes me feel like a happy child. Between the Bubbies mochi and the delicious furukake chex mix, I always buy some to-go and leave happy. :)
(5)Chien M.
Tried the guava, strawberry and vanilla mochi ice cream. It's just so so. When I have vanilla ice cream in other shop, I can always see some vanilla seed in the ice cream. But here it's just light flavor and sugar. And I tried the Green tea flavor ice cream. It's not good enough to taste like green tea....
(2)Kevin L.
Watchout their shaved ice is hella big. Great mochi flavors of over like a dozen? I like the mini ice cream cones on the temaki rack. perfect size for kids. I think Jimbo himself helped us. Nice friendly guy.
(5)Ashley T.
MOCHI ICE CREAM! I have not had the pleasure of traveling to Hawaii to try Bubble's Mochi but I'm glad that Jimbo in Japantown SJ can offer it to me. There are so so many things you can get at Jimbo's. The highlight for me would be Marianne's ice cream and Bubble's Mochi. I have tried the lychee, pistachio, and green tea mochi ice cream. They're also tasty and flavorful but my favorite has to be lychee. I haven't gotten Marianne's ice cream from here, but I'll make my way to it. Jimbo's, thank you for giving me a place to get a large variety of ice cream mochi besides Asian markets.
(4)R. L.
This is my favorite place to come for mochi! There was an Asian man who helped me & he was extremely nice. He gave me samples of ice cream that I didn't even ask for & they were delicious!! I got the ice cream cone sampler, it comes with 5 different flavors of your choice on mini cones. Perfect! Also took home mochis (my favorite). Quick service & very friendly staff. Definitely recommended
(5)Siobhan F.
Two times in one week? I'd say I'm a fan. Though I have yet to try their entire menu, I could not be more excited that they serve bubbies mochi in endless (okay, not endless but it feels like it) flavors. I also sampled some of their butter mochi which was devilishly good. If they have the (seasonal I think) toasted macadamia mochi, try it. It mostly resembles heaven. I can't wait to go back and try their other creations like the jimbo roll (seriously I don't see how that can be wrong at all).
(4)Evelynn C.
3.5 stars, rounding up because supposedly the mochi ice cream is really good. After a huge lunch, my boyfriend and I went for a nice walk at the SJ American Japanese festival and ended up getting ice cream at Jimbo's. I think the highlight of this place is their mochi ice cream, which requires proper thawing. I didn't want to wait so I ended up getting just the regular scoop of ice cream. I am huge on anything that is green tea flavored, so naturally I went for the scoop of green tea ice cream. My boyfriend loves to default to the basics when it comes to things like ice cream, so he went for the Vanilla. Both flavors were really good -- my boyfriend usually does not like green tea flavored ice cream (I always make him try a little just in case he might like it), and to my surprise, he actually really liked it! The only downfall would be the price. At $3.50ish a scoop and over $7 total, I could buy a tub of ice cream! Verdict: Would definitely come back and try their mochi ice cream (which is also pricey), but would not frequent here due to high prices. In the end it's still just ice cream. The lady who gave us the ice cream was professional and friendly. (:
(4)Nicole P.
When I first came here, I was disappointed that I couldn't just get one. But every time after that, I insist on getting at least 6. Jimbo's is a cute little eatery located in Japantown that sells mochi ice cream, along with some other baked goods and savory items. I've only had their bubbies and they're so good! So far, I've tried the passion fruit, lychee, chocolate strawberry, chocolate peanut butter, pumpkin, pistachio, and guava (my absolute fav). They're definitely different than the store-bought mochi ice cream that you get at Asian markets. The mochi is not as thick or powdery, and they offer more unique flavors. Just a heads up, when you first order them, they come out rock solid. Be sure to wait a couple of minutes for them to defrost before taking a bite.
(5)Jessica T.
bubbie's mochi ice cream from Hawaii taste way better than the mikawaya stuff when I had it in Hawaii. here though, disappointed me. the best part of the mochi ice cream besides the ice cream is the chewy and stretchy mochi, but that's not what I got from jimbo's. probably because it was too frozen or the temp stored screws it up. I love that they had flavors you don't always see, but right when I came in...,it smelled like a chuck e cheese. I had: -guava...omg I love it -green tea....average -something about coffee...yum! it was disappointing to me, but I'll try again. they also have Marianne's ice cream homemade from Santa Cruz! min purchase $3.50 for plastic. this is located between omogari and 7 bamboo across from roy's station.
(3)Theresa C.
Came here for the mochi and left feeling...meh. Of the 6 flavors I tried, only 4 were good. Lychee-great, light and very refreshing. Green tea- strong tea flavor and creamier than the others. Chocolate mint-my favorite. Mint ice cream in chocolate mochi skin. Pistachio-not good. It just tasted like plain cream. Cantaloupe-good seasonal flavor, but slightly watery. Guava-terrible, had a rubbing alcohol aftertaste. The mochis here were just ok. Not sure how fresh they are as they came out rock hard. The dough on the mochi wasn't soft or chewy. Also, the ice cream melted quickly as soon as the mochi skin started thawing, so they were difficult to eat. At 6 pieces/$10, they're pretty pricey too.
(2)Kim C.
I'm in love with mochi ice cream! Such a great combo of two awesome desserts! Along with mochi ice creams, they have a variety of desserts, Marianne's ice cream, and strangely also hotdogs lol. The customer service is great. I was kind of being difficult because I was indecisive in which flavors to pick. But the cashier was nice and gave me so good recommendations. I ended up getting mango, litchi, green tea, and strawberry. I loved all of them! :D Downside of this place is sometimes they say they're open, but they're not. :(
(4)Tyler G.
The only place to go for mochi ice cream! Favorite flavors are lychee and mango. They also have regular ice cream cones, but the mochi is amazing and there just simply is not another place like this anywhere else in the bay!
(5)Scat C.
As a Japantown local, it is time I rate this place. Bubbies = ok, they are good but I am honestly fine with the stuff out of the box Ice cream = my kids dig the chip and dale sampler. They each get two scoops and I get the last cone so it's a win win for this mother of two. We love the rainbow sherbet, vanilla, 50/50 (orange sherbet + vanilla), green tea and chocolate. The strawberry is also very good! Hot dogs = I have to admit, I HATE hot dogs but the Jimbo roll is one of the best combos I've had so I can excuse eating a hot dog. The owner says he loves his chili cheese dog because they make the chili in house so I'll have to come back to try it out. Macaroons = I have been all over the world eating macaroons. Rose is one of my favorite flavored however, Jimbos makes a black sesame flavor that is amazeballs! A little sweet but savory and a happy marriage of azn flavors for a French treat. Oh and I get to write this epic review because my kids are being entertained by the TV that is on Nicktoons. Score!
(5)Chad C.
I loved the mochi ice cream from Hawaii and the fact that they have it sent in every week gives me good memories. If they were somehow able to mail those cakes over it would be money.. My go-tos are lychee, passion and guava. Perfect for a hot day in japantown to just sit in front and enjoy.
(4)Cindy T.
The mochis were not worth it. Definitely had better. Don't even get me started with their ice cream. Yuck!
(2)Anooshree S.
Great experience here! My family and I often come here to buy ice cream mochis for get-togethers since everyone seems to love them. Today we stopped by, and a very friendly guy behind the counter (the owner?) patiently packed our huge order of mochis -- 3 of each, for 6 flavors. After that, he gave us a pumpkin ice cream mochi ( the fall flavor) on the house. Throughout, he was friendly and helpful and even took some time explaining how he had packed the mochis of similar colors in different containers. This is a true San Jose gem in the heart of Japantown -- check it out!
(5)Shaun L.
I enjoy supporting all businesses in Japantown and Jimbo's is no different. I've tried their hot dogs and they are ok. But what I really like is their ice cream! The service is friendly and quick, and if you like Godzilla then this is the right place to check out!
(3)Ashley D.
We found ourselves here after my birthday dinner at Minato's. I really wanted something sweet and found it! Yay! This place is super clean and friendly looking (and they had a small shrine to George Takei near the counter). Our group decided on the frozen mochi and ordered lychee, green tea, and coconut. I really liked all the flavors. Green tea was my fave though. On a different trip, after an anime convention we tried to J-town dog and the Jimbo dog. Both were super good but I really preferred the J-town dog (it has nori, wasabi mayo, pickled veggies) SO YUMMY! The wasabi mayo had a good heat and flavor. Just thinking about it makes me drool. The owners are so cute and nice too! My only negative is that they ran out of two flavors of the mochi, but other than that- great!
(4)Stephanie W.
Thanks to Jimbo's I'm officially addicted to mochi ice cream. So YUMMY! Definitely pricey - but worth it.
(4)Elise T.
Decided to pop into this little shop since it was new and I was craving sweets. I had their macarons, which I thought were okay. They were a bit too sweet for me, and a bit lacking in flavor. I also had their Bubbies Guava Ice Cream Mochi, which was quite delicious! However, I don't think I was impressed enough to ever have an urge to return.
(3)Bianca Marie M.
I've been seeing a lot of my friends post pictures about this place so having a really big sweet tooth, my boyfriend decides to take me. The owners are very friendly (turns out one of them was my asian american studies teacher last semester!). I mostly came there for the bubbies and didn't really get a chance to look at everything else. My boyfriend and I shared 6 bubbies: strawberry, mango, guava, passion fruit, lychee, and pistachio. Each flavor was delicious! I've tried mochi ice cream before from the asian markets, but bubbies do not even compare since the flavors are imported from Hawaii! The thing I like about it the most is that its not too doughy and is more of ice cream. Will definitely come back for more let alone try the other things that are on the menu!
(4)Amy G.
The only place that sells bubbies mochi! Best way to get your fix. Every time that I've gone is pretty empty in here but at least that means I get their undivided attention. They have new flavors every now and then but they do charge more than the actual location in Oahu. Can't complain, as long as I get my fix!
(4)Kim N.
Crazy nice people work here. I have a friend with a gluten allergy and we tried to determine whether the Bubbie's mochi they served had any or not. In the end they werent quite sure so we played it safe. On the other hand Marianne's Ice Cream out of Santa Cruz is safe and it's also a great alternative. They have Japa dogs and some other savory items as well. Seemed like there was group congregated to watch the 49ers game, while there was a shit ton of people just loitering outside. Hopefully next time Im here it's a bit more relaxed and not so full of folks.
(4)Tien N.
This place is great for deserts ! I went in here and all I can think about is mochi ice cream. I tried guava, green tea and passion fruit. It taste pretty good but the green tea is my least favorite because I just don't like that tea flavor but my friend loved it. She got strawberry, green tea and passion fruit. My favorite was passion fruit but it was her least. I recommend you trying out the flavors yourself because everyone opinion is different, but it's good to try because it's not that bad. Even thought I didn't like green tea it was still okay for me to eat. This would be good for summer. The workers were every friendly. My other friend got a scoop of mint ice cream and he liked it. We will be back to try more flavors ^_^
(5)Lynn S.
Love this place for my sweet cravings. Their ice creams and Bubbies mochi ice cream are yummy, and don't forget to get a bag of my favorite sweet party mix. The folks there are very friendly too so A+ for service.
(5)Lien T.
I came across this place by accident when I was dining across the street for dinner. I frequent Japantown pretty often and so I knew right away that Jimbo's was a new establishment. I did a quick search via my Yelp app and decided to drop by for dessert. Let me tell you, I am so glad that I found this place! I got a few of their Bubbie's mochi ice cream, which they said are shipped weekly, directly from Hawaii. I tried three flavors: guava, strawberry, and goma (limited supply, as it's made only once a month). My favorite was the goma flavor; it's basically sesame flavor and it was sooo good. Don't forget to let the mochi sit for a little bit, as it's really hard right out of the freezer. The price is pretty steep, at about $2 per mochi, but so worth it IMO. Jimbo's had been open for business for about a week at the time that I came, but surprisingly, the staff was extremely comfortable and friendly. I'll definitely be back for the mochi, but they also have a few other sweet items; such as, rice crispy treats and macaroons. P.S. They also serve beer here.
(5)Kris H.
Grand opening 9/7 530- 10pm and 9/8 11- 10pm Yay for mom and pop shops. Double yays for Bubbies ice cream mochis shipped weekly from Hawaii. 3 for $4.75. Luv the guava! They also carry Marianne's ice cream, and serve gourmet hot dogs and rice bowls.
(4)Uyen L.
After having dinner nearby we decided to stop by for some dessert. Finally, a place that has mochi ice cream. Now I don't have to buy the ones in a box anymore. We got green tea, mango, strawberry and chocolate peanut butter. I liked all of them. Who doesn't love ice cream, right? We took awhile to order and had a lot of questions, so I appreciated how patient the couple was with us. I plan on coming back for the seasonal flavors.
(4)Tanja H.
YUMMY!!! Hands down the best mochi balls in the Bay! Choc/Strawberry & Choc/Coconut is my favorite. This will be my go-to place when I'm in the area. I wish they delivered!!
(5)Nuts D.
Like the Muchi MUCHO! Perfect portion sizes for afternoon snack. Passion fruit and chocolate mint my favorite.
(4)Grace G.
Nestled in the heart of San Jose's Japantown across from the manju shop and down the street from the Korean BBQ restaurant you will find a frosty dessert shop - Jimbo's. I frequented Jimbo's at a time in my life when all I wanted to eat all day were ice cream, mochi, and sushi. Jimbo's imported Bubbie's mochi ice cream (from Hawaii) hits the spot. Favs: strawberry green tea Meh: mango guava (kids loved this though) When I would bring the teenagers I am mentoring, we tried all the flavors except the ones they ran out of. The kids liked almost every flavor except 2 (I forget which), so I think the flavors are geared more towards kids than foodies. Once in a while they would have Hello Kitty cookies which were adorable. Perfect for parties. Seating can be challenging during peak times in the Summer.
(3)Brian C.
This review is for the ICE CREAM ONLY. I did not get a chance to sample their notorious mochi ice cream balls. The ice cream in general is pretty generic. I honestly think I would've had a better time with a carton of Dreyers Cookies and Cream ice cream.
(3)Mark H.
Ok. So they have this home made black sesame sauce to put in top of Marianne's ice cream! Definite must over the vanilla bean ice cream... and you can see and taste those wonderful beans. And then there is this killer butter mochi. Smooth and addictive. Looks like they have gluten free, sugar free, and flourless baked goods as well. And for those who know Bubbies from hawaii... THEY HAVE BUBBIES MOCHI ICE CREAM!!! OK... so where's the sixth star? Oh bring cash... no plastic here.
(5)Emily N.
All I've had is the mochi here but I never regret it. It is so squishy and yummy. My personal favorite flavor is lychee. The flavor is just sweet enough that it won't be overpowering. I could eat two dozen of these by myself if I could!
(4)Leddee H.
I'm quite confused on what this shop is all about since it has ice cream, gelato, macaroons, candy, and beer. Yes, they have beer. So I guess this place caters to little kids, and parents of little kids who want a buzz after dining in Japantown. Although I was tempted to order a beer, I resorted for the pineapple/coconut ice cream. It was good! This shop is a good addition to Japantown! Check it out.
(4)Judy P.
I really love this place. This is now my go to if I want some good quality mochi ice cream. The brand of mochi ice cream they sell here is Bubbies and I guess it's from Hawaii; from what I heard. GO TRY IT. Jimbo's is a family own business and they are very nice and friendly :D. I've been here several times now and I love it more and more each time. Usual flavors of mochi ice cream that I get: -Guava -Sakura -Passion Fruit -Green Tea They also sell cookies and rice bowls I have yet to try...will do a review once I try them ;D Also, my most recent visit, they had macarons! They were $2 each, but TOTALLY worth it. They are big, scrumptious, chewy on the inside, and crunchy on the outside. The flavors they had at the time were vanilla and lavender. I enjoyed those as well.
(5)Kristy T.
This one is short and simple... DELICIOUS!!! I bought 12 mochi to go. The flavors I chose were lychee, honeydew, watermelon, pistachio, chocolate coconut, chocolate peanut butter and strawberry. I got home and opened the container and they vanished in 1.2 seconds!!!! Kids loved them and I loved them too. I manged to get a taste of each flavor after wrestling the kids down for the taste... JK but yes i managed! We will definitely be back for more! There are more flavors and items that we need to try. I also want to try the chili cheese frito hot dog and cream cheese and chili dog. So stay tuned for another review!
(4)Christy L.
I am always game for mochi ice cream, so stopped in to see how Bubbies stacked up to the boxed supermarket kinds. I liked how they offered the different flavors, but ordering in increments of three was tough. (Why can't we just get one?) I guess I'm not an ice cream mochi snob - besides finding more flavors in the store, I think I'm perfectly fine eating the ones from the grocery freezer box. However, I still think it's cool to have such a unique dessert offering from a family owned establishment. And they seem to offer a whole lot more than mochi ice cream. I'm not in Japantown a whole lot, but wouldn't mind coming back to try their other offerings.
(4)Kimberly H.
I looked up mochi ice cream on Yelp one day and saw Jimbo's as one of the search results. Didn't even realize that this place was right in Japantown. Tried it for the first time tonight and I fell in love with their mochi ice cream! My brother and I originally came here to just try their mochi ice cream. But since we didn't get a chance to eat dinner yet, we thought we'd try their specialty hot dogs. My bro got the Jimbo roll and I got the Cream Cheese Chili Dog with Fritos. The Jimbo roll reminded us of a spam musubi, but instead of the spam it was a hot dog. My cream cheese chili dog was interesting, to say the least. I wouldn't call it my new favorite, but it wasn't entirely bad. I was hungry so I scarfed the whole thing down :). For the mochi ice cream, you can only order in increments of 3. I ended up ordering six pieces, three for me and three for my brother. We got guava, pistachio, passion fruit, strawberry, mango, and green tea. Every single one of those mochi ice cream pieces were absolutely delicious! I ate my pieces slowly just so I could savor each bite, and also because I spent $8.95 for six pieces so I wanted to get my money's worth. After trying Bubbie's mochi ice cream, it's gonna be hard for me to go back to getting mochi ice cream at the asian supermarket.
(5)Kelly T.
I've never been a fan of mochi, but this was delicious! I came in here with my cousin and sisters, I usually don't like mochi so I opted from getting an original flavor. I tried the seasonal one which was black sesame at the time. Sounded very different but it was worth a shot. After the first bite, I fell in love. I decided to order another one. 2 in one sitting was plentiful. I came back the following week hoping for more but they sold out!! So, venturing out of my comfort zone AGAIN, I decided to try their seasonal flavor which was frangelico. It's like a hazelnut flavor. DELICIOUS!! Can't wait to come pack. The upside is that the man and 2 women usually working are great and fun to talk to.
(4)wolfie g.
Delicious mochilato. The best. Super nice guy working there. Lychee. Mango. Green tea. Guava. Ranked in that order. So Delish :)
(5)Adam G.
Cute, delicious, welcoming, attentive, friendly and inexpensive. I really enjoyed this place. The staff was extremely inviting. As we came in they greeted us with a hello and a smile. They asked if we had any questions and even made suggestions on what we could/should order. We ended up getting a large shaved ice ($4.00) and man was it huge! We literally could have had another person share the shaved ice with us. Next time I want to try their mochi. It looked and sounded amazing as the staff described it to me. My parents have already requested I take them here when they come visit after seeing the picture of the shaved ice I posted on Facebook :-)
(5)D L.
I've seriously love this place. I almost cried when I found out they close on Monday's and Tuesdays. I'm such a sucker for their mochi ice cream! Especially the pistachio! If I could have any dessert in the world for the rest of my life it would be the Pistachio Mochi Ice Cream! I've tried the Mango, Green Tea, Guava, Chocolate Peanut Butter ones, but nothing is as spectacular as the Pistachio. Mango and Guava would probably been my go-to if they sold out of Pistachio. But I don't know.... There's just something about it... It has such a rich cream base and chunks of pistachio nuts that if you eat too much, you'll attract squirrels. Haha just kidding, but seriously though--Get the Pistachio!
(5)Rick S.
Come to this place just for Bubbies famous mochi ice cream. My personal fav flavors: pistachio, guava and the bf liked the chocolate peanut butter. Butter mochi was also delish! I tried their famous black sesame sauce, it was heavenly! Next time I go back I'm def going to try it with actual ice cream.
(5)May N.
Hmm I'm not sure if I'm missing something here or what. I saw the rave reviews and had high expectations. My friends and I tried the green rice crispy and 3 different mochi ice cream flavors. The guava one was really weird. I couldn't put my finger on it, but something just tasted a bit off. The green tea and coconut ones were okay, good but nothing spectacular. The rice crispy treat was okay, but I wouldn't get it again. I thought everything was just okay, but my friend really enjoyed it. Maybe I was too cold from the evening breeze to really enjoy ice cream or something. What I thought was really cool is that they serve beer here. We had to wait a really long time for our table at SJ Omogari, so it was nice to sit here and enjoy some snacks and beer while waiting. My friend enjoyed the mochi ice cream so much that after our really filling dinner we came back here to grab more mochi ice cream. I was too full to try anymore but am willing to try some more flavors the next time we are around this area. Both times when we came here last night, the place was semi-crowded. There was only guy working, so the line took sometime. But he was nice and took the time to answer our questions despite the line behind us.
(3)Lisa C.
The perfect way to end a meal? Mochi ice cream. They're frozen solid when you first get them so make sure to let them chill out for a few minutes before taking a bite. I love the chocolate espresso so far. Can't wait to try their other favors and desserts.

(5)Tien N.
Review is only for the mochi. Ive been here quite often and tried almost every flavor of mochi they have. They have seasonal flavors as well as their regular flavors. Hands down, my favorite was dark chocolate strawberry!!! Would definitely recommend.
(5)Shirley N.
The first time I had bubbies mochi ice cream was in Hawaii and I haven't gotten about them since. No mochi will ever taste the same after you've tried these! love love love them. A tad bit on the pricey side but well worth it.

Another win for Japantown - yummy food, friendly owners, good vibes and yes, they even sell beer and wine! At Jimbo's you'll find a full menu of Japanese and American-style gourmet hot dogs, rice bowls, Marianne's ice cream by the cone or cup, and Bubbies mochi ice cream from Oahu. This is a great spot for everyone - families with kids, teens, adults, seniors and everyone in between. What I love about Jimbo's is the "local vibe" that is...50% San Jose Japantown and 50% takes-me-right-back-to-Hawaii. It has a clean, modern look with a down-home, mom and pop feel to it. More cool factors: - They support other local businesses - They feature Marianne's Ice Cream (from Santa Cruz!) - Try the black sesame ice cream sauce, it's different and delicious and well worth the 85 cents extra - The baked goods are made by Mike Honda's daughter - who is super nice, by the way - try the butter mochi :) - Chili rice bowl is made with homemade chili - and it is very good. - J-town Hot Dog - the best - wasabi sauce is amazeballs and the veggies on top make it crisp, fresh and bright. Delish! Before you leave, take a look around - the vintage art is part of a personal Japanese American art collection of one of the owners. If you catch him in Jimbo's be sure to ask him about it. The history is fascinating, the culture runs deep. I already brought some folks here and will continue to spread the word. Welcome to the neighborhood, Jimbo's!

I've only been here recently because of a friend and man I can't believe I've been missing out all this time! I've only tried their mochi so far but man are those things YUM-MY! I love the green tea but all the other flavors are great as well. I always get a dozen when I go.

I came here when hanging out with a small group of friends a couple weeks back. We originally wanted to go to banana crepe...but it was closed by the time we were done with dinner. boooo... I got the chocolate strawberry mochi ice cream and the guava mochi. they were super frozen when we got them. once they thawed, it was a lot easier to bite. The mochi skin was....really powdery and rubbery. but the flavors were good. I liked the ice cream portion of the mochi, especially the chocolate strawberry. Also a lot of people are saying the staff is awesome. They came off really pushy when me and my friends were deciding what to order. there was no line. why you gotta be so pushy?! Also the older man, probably the owner, totally looks like an anime character. N he was being really friendly, but i was kind of weirded out by it. their macarons are pricey and dinky. i don't feel like it's worth it. one plus is that they have mariannes ice cream! dont gotta go to santa cruz anymore! except they only have like 1/5th of the flavors that the shop in santa cruz offers. *sigh* eh, I would possibly come here again if other people wanted to...but i'd stick with regular ice cream or maybe try some of their regular food

I love this place especially the mochi ice cream. It's soft creamy and not too sweet. Passion fruit and strawberry were my favorite. A perfect combination of ingredients. The 10-20 is awesome. They also have a Japanese staple: rice bowls and hot dogs I didn't get to try them, but another person ordered it and it looked delicious. The service is super friendly and fast. Over all I really enjoyed my visit here and would definitely come back again. Note: during the Summer this place should be packed. I went in october and there was a small line.
(5)Kelly H.
This place is REALLY GOOD! It's a family owned business, and they're super friendly and let you try a lot of flavors. The only thing is that Jimbo's seems to open when it wants to. My friend and I kept trying to go to this place, only to find it closed each time. We finally caught it open when it was supposed to be closed, haha!! Try the cantaloupe ice cream! Next up to try is the mochi ice cream for me :)
(5)Tiffany L.
Loved the variety of flavors. We ordered the passion fruit, green tea, & red bean. You have to let it warn up a but before eating or they are quite hard!
(4)Jennifer H.
It was such a surprise coming across bubbies! Hubby and I ordered a bunch! Oh how we miss Hawaii! Must have the Guava mochi! Only negative is that they are expensive. 3 for $6, 6 for $10, or 12 for $19. Our friend told us they have them at wholefoods for less 8 for $10
(4)Michelle D.
The service and the ice cream are too good to not give it a five star rating. I can't wait to try the mochi ice cream!
(5)Pearl V.
My sisters and I came here one weekend to check out their mochi ice cream. They're Bubbies Mochi which they have shipped from Hawaii. Basically it tasted like any other mochi ice cream to me. Overrated but maybe a good place to grab an ice cream treat if you're in the area, but not drive out of your way to get to.
(3)Jen H.
3.5 solid stars, but I decided to round down since it is a little on the pricey side. We stumbled across this dessert place after lunch--of course I need dessert after every meal. Anyhow, they have good bubbies mochi ice cream. You should let the mochi sit out for a bit before biting into the ice cream. Good flavors. I enjoyed the passion fruit, mango, and green tea! All delicious, but my favorite is probably the mango!
(3)Stacy A.
Meh, I would have rather just went to an Asian store and bought a pack of mochi ice cream. I would have enjoyed that more. Don't buy the hype! On the other hand they do serve Marianne's Ice Cream!
(1)LT P.
-4 stars mainly for mochi, which i will come back for..all the flavors were good :) -macarons were too sweet -oreo on a stick was cute and cool but a little pricey -matcha rice crispy were okay, probably wont be getting it again -friendly staff
(4)Doris L.
Good place to go for their mochi ice cream! Don't have to fly to Hawaii for Bubbies. =) The Jimbo roll had to much rice for me and dog super salty. But i love the ice cream!
(4)Soo Jung R.
Love the Bubbies! At first sight, I thought they were no different from mochis. WRONG! Bubbies feel much less milky, doesn't have the white powder (and still stays in its perfect shape without sticking to my fingers) and best yet, you can try multiple flavors instead of having to buy a whole box of a single flavor! SO looking forward to going back. When I'm in Japan Town, I always have to debate whether to visit Jimbo's or Banana Crepe.
(4)Jamie M.
You like mochi? Specifically, do you like mochi from Bubbies? Well you can get some here in Japantown. They have an assortment of flavors and you can get them in orders of 3, 6, or 9 pieces. The owner of the shop is a nice guy and likes to converse with customers. I read that they have ice cream from Marianne's (Santa Cruz), so that saves everyone a trip there. I can't really speak of anything else, as I only had the mochi for dessert after eating at Omigari next door. The decor is pretty simple, and there's a huge TV on the wall. Staff is solid, and are nice in general. The only huge negative is that the place smelled like a combination of a fart and garbage. It was so bad that my friend left as soon as we got in. Hopefully the smell was a one time thing.
(4)Lynn N.
Came here for Bubbies Mochi awhile back! Great flavor selection, fun dessert/date place.
(4)Emily P.
I love Mochi ice cream and this is the only mochi ice cream shop I know of! They have tons of flavors and they sell Marriane's ice cream! They sell hot dogs as well but I haven't tried it yet. I have tried the mango and guava mochi ice cream and it was delicious. They even give it on a bamboo plate! I love great presentation! I will definitely be coming here more often for their mochi!
(4)Jaya D.
Mochi Ice Cream!!! I had never heard of or had mochi ice cream before, but one I tried it at Jimbo's, I don't know how I lived all these years without it. The first time I tried it, I didn't realize that you have to wait a little for it to melt, but honestly I don't think I have that kind of patience when it comes to ice cream. The mochi ice cream is firm, soft, and sweet all at the same time, such a great combination. I usually get the guava, lychee, and mango flavor. They are all delicious, and I love the fact that the distinct flavor of the fruit in still present in the ice cream. The place serves regular ice cream and snacks too, but I never got any thing other than the Mochi Ice Cream, and don't intend to either. But I am going back for the Mochi Ice Cream, and if I were you I would go try it too.
(5)Henna P.
Delicious mochi ice cream (Bubbies)! We tried every flavor except vanilla and honeydew. They were all delicious! The pistachio, guava, passion fruit and chocolate coconut were my favorites. Tip: give the mochi a few minutes to soften up because if you eat them right away, they are difficult to bite. If you're taking them to go, they'll be the perfect consistency by the time you get home.
(4)Edell F.
This place is a sweet little shop in Japantown. I took my nieces here for some after dinner ice cream and our eyes all lit up when we saw their 5 cone sampler ice cream set. I love the idea that we can sample different mini ice creams plus for kids it's a perfect size. The workers there were all very friendly. You could tell that they run this place because it has family history and their only purpose is to make people happy over a simple pleasure. It's a sweet little shop and perfect for kid dates!
(4)Michelle S.
yummy mochi, but a bit pricey. got 3 for 4.95. Pistachio (favorite ice cream, passion fruit, and guava. I wanted to try them all, but i couldn't stomach the price. as some prior reviews said... the skin (mochi) does seem a bit dry and hard at first, but i think patience is key. it's one of those "wait before you eat it" type of food than a "dive right in!" not gonna lie. i came here after seeing someone post a pic of it on instagram because i'm such a huge fan of mochi... so took my girlfriend and brother here. Customer service is A-OK... The only let down for me personally (and i hate to say it because they seem like nice people) is that when i'm waiting in line for a customer ahead of me, especially if was a long wait, i kind of expect the person at the register to tend to me next if i was in fact next, not look towards the people who comes in right after me and ask if they're ready. It's a pet peeve of mine and pretty sure it's a pet peeve of a lot of other people. I had to raise my hand politely and say "yes, i'm ready" kind of in a "this is awkward... did you see me? i was standing here the whole time..." way. Overall i recommend people try this place.
(4)Kim P.
The Guava mochi ice cream & service is 4 STARS. The cashier gave me a plastic knife at first to cut my mochi ice cream pieces in half. We sat out front and he saw me having difficulty cutting it so he came out with a huge knife and cutting board. What a surprise that was to see him coming at us with his knife. haha. It was nice that he paid attention to his customers. Was disappointed with how passion fruit tasted. The lychee flavor was ok. I think the Bubbies mochi ice cream tasted much better in Hawaii.
(4)Christine E.
Mochi ice cream! That is the draw at first. The you walk in and find Hot dogs with pickled carrots and daikon and Wasabi sauce... homemade chili with fritos and cheese.. They even have happy hour with a great selection of Hawaiian beers and Bud Light too! The service is friendly! It has a definite Hawaiian vibe!
(4)Kim W.
A wonderful surprise to find Bubbies mochi ice cream from Hawaii being offered. Of course we had to try most of the flavors best one was the mango, just eating it brought me back to Oahu. Nice treat to find in San Jose .
(5)Kylie S.
Not only is this a great ice cream place, but they have great food too! The J-Town dog is one of my favorites! In addition to the ice cream, ice cream mocha, and savory treats, there is also a selection of baked goodies that you can't resist. Everything is reasonably priced and well worth it in correspondence to the tastes. The best for last!! The kurogoma sauce is soooo good! I love to get it on vanilla ice cream. The vanilla is normal: sweet, creamy, yummy and by adding the kurogoma sauce you get this really delicious combination of salty and sweet. To me the sauce is like a salty caramel and it is just the right amount of stickiness that you want to ration it out so you have enough for your last bites of ice cream. Many people avoid cold foods when the weather is chilly, but with the kurogoma sauce I just can't resist!
(5)Julie T.
I drove here after dinner at home just to try it out. They are located on the Jackson across from the Tofu store. To my surprise, they sell Marianne's Ice cream from Santa Cruz! Oh yum. I won't have to drive all the way to SC for that yummy creamy delicious ice cream. Their mochi is imported from Hawaii as other reviews have indicated. I can definitely taste the quality of mochi compared to store bought ones. The texture is a lot more sticky and smooth once inside your mouth. Definitely wait a little for the mochi to soften before biting in or else you won't know what I'm talking about. I will be back for some ice cream when the weather gets warmer.
(5)Allison M.
The guys at Jimbo's are the sweetest. They are ready to greet you with a smile and you can tell they take so much pride in their shop. I love coming here for Bubbie's mochi cream's! You can choose your flavors unlike buying an entire box and being limited to only one flavor. I'll be back to try other desserts, namely the macarons!
(4)Kathy L.
Whoa. Did not know that there was a little piece of Japan down in San Jose! This place has been in my bookmarks for quite a while, but I finally managed to stop by this afternoon on a random day off. Picked up 6 bubbies to take home for a later sweet treat with the bf- strawberry, guava, passion fruit, green tea, lychee, and one other I can't remember at this moment. All the flavors were absolutely delish, and right out of the freezer, firm enough to hold its shape and form without melting, but still soft and creamy on the inside (unlike the store-bought mochi ice creams that need to defrost a little lest it feel like biting into a sweet rock). I wonder what the shelf life is so I can stock up on these and just make a trip every month or so? Will definitely be back to satisfy my mochi fix, and to explore the other restaurants in the area!
(5)Allen C.
They have really good shave ice and really bubbies mochi ice cream. Nice service and clean place to go
(5)Will S.
I love coming to Japantown. And though this place is relatively new to me, I think it makes a great addition to the whole community. I've been here a couple times already and a few things I like about it already are: 1. It's got mochi. And I'm not a big fan of it either but Jimbo's would be a good source for it. I enjoyed the chocolate coconut and strawberry the most. 2. Employees are very welcoming and patient. They're youthful and bring good energy to the spot. 3. It's convenient. Japantown is only a stone's throw away from where I live. Great place to get your sweets fix on. Hey hey. Other than that, it's not bad. I'll be sure to come back again.
(4)Christopher C.
They serve beer! Ever since my introduction to mochi ice cream back in the 90's, I've hated it. That so-so ice cream encased in that thick doughy dough. It sticks to your teeth & the roof of your mouth and just isn't good. Jimbo's does not sell those here. This is not the stuff you get in the box at Trader Joe's or Safeway. The mochi here is GREAT! The dough is thin and all the flavors are good. Yes, I've had them all. I particularly love the black sesame and the mango. The mochi is made in Hawai'i. They also serve Marianne's ice cream which is very good. I haven't tried any of the hot dogs and they sell some other sweet stuff too. Did I mention they serve beer?
(4)Kevin H.
Awesome place! My two friends and I came in for the mochi ice cream! It was amazing, and easily worth the 8 dollars for 6 we bought. The dough on the outside was perfect, with enough bite without being too chewy. The flavors were pretty great too! All the fruits are distinct and well balanced- while many desserts are fruit "flavored", most of them go amiss when it comes to a comparison with real fruit. However, the mochi here taste exactly as their fruit would come to taste! Amazing- our favorites were guava, lychee, and cantaloupe. This place a must visit if you're ever in the area. Food aside, the owner is awesome! I usually look for small things about businesses, and it was all here. The owner always says "welcome to jimbo's" and "thank you" to each customer as you walk in and out, and I really appreciate that. It's also really clean, and it's nice to see a place that cares about the little things. I'll be back soon!
(5)Wormy R.
We came based on raving reviews from Yelp and were not disappointed. We tried 6 mochi bubbies flavors for $14.95 a dozen: mango, green tea, pistachio, strawberry on chocolate, cantaloupe, lychee. The mochi wrapper was extra hard that day, might be too deeply frozen in the morning but the ice cream was wonderful. We all voted for mango, strawberry in chocolate and cantaloupe. They also carry Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz which we tried and liked 50/50 the most (50 vanilla and 50 orangesicle). We didn't get a chance to try the bowls or the special ice cream sauce featured since after paying desserts for $20 (easily), trying other items will definitely have to be in our next visit.

love this place for having their homemade furikakke chex mix! I fell in love with these things when i went to hawaii his past spring and was so sad i didn't bring back enough. I was so excited to have finally found this place that sells a version of it! They're not exactly cheap...~$5 for a "large" bag which isn't very large but i still think its worth it! They also well "BUBBIES" which are mochi ice cream, which i also ate everyday while in hawaii. I love how they have such a variety of flavors for the bubbies! I've also tried their sushi dogs and those are okay...nothing too special. I think i can make those myself but 4 stars just for the furikakke mix and bubbies! oh and i also like how they're opened until 9pm so i can sneak over here after dinner around the area :)
(4)Alex P.
Just walked over thinking I'd get mochi. I'd read about them having macarons in the past, but someone said they stopped selling them. Well, they have macarons again, apparently. We had one of each flavor, and they were all really delicious. Perfect texture, not too sweet. The frosting was a bit rich and perhaps a bit more heavily used than I personally prefer, but it didn't stop me from enjoying. I've been trying macarons all over San Jose, and these are by far the best I've had. Also, the person working behind the counter was really friendly, especially considering we came in close to closing. I felt very welcome and will definitely going back again. The green tea macarons were perfect! And the ice cream looked good, though I didn't try it.
(5)Danyelle P.
SO MANY FLAVOR OPTIONS I COULDNT DECIDE! I was trying to only go for the 6 bubbies for $8.95 but I ended up going for the 12 bubbies for $14.95. OMG! I was so close to getting every single flavor. Even the new watermelon flavor they offer for the summer. Can't wait to go back for more.
(5)Emily Y.
Love this little place in Japantown (Jackson Street, downtown SJ). I had the Pineapple Coconut Mochi (x2) and a Green Tea Mochi. SOO good. I can't WAIT to bring my sister here!
(5)Vanna T.
We just walked in with my dog to check out the menu and were going to sit outside, when the extremely rude woman who works there name Jen greeted us with the nastiest comment. We were visiting for the first time and she left such a horrible impression on us! Not coming back! We should have went to Creme on First Street instead!!! #JimboIsWack!
(1)Kay L.
Just pure awesomeness. A must try. My favorite flavor ice cream there- the coconut... Real bits of coconut in coconut ice cream...yummmmm!!!
(5)Alice J.
I wanted to try jimbos for a long time for the bubbies mochi. I finally stopped by and was pleasantly surprised to find they also serve mariannes ice cream and specialty hot dogs. So of course I had to try a jtown dog before ordering my mochi. The dog itself was just okay, not much different than the kind you can buy in a pack at the grocery store. However the toppings were delicious. It came with pickled daikon and carrots, wasabi sauce, and furikaki. The combination of sweet and spicy was perfect! Next time I'll pay the extra 75 cents so I can try it with a hot link. After I finished my hot dog I started sampling ice cream. The coffee flavor was good and I loved the 10-20: caramel ice cream with fudge and crushed oreos. Both had a good creaminess. They offer a chip and dales sampler where you can get 5 tiny ice cream cones; perfect for trying a variety of flavors. I almost ordered ice cream but remembered what I went in for in the first place: mochi! After some tough decision making I narrowed down my choices to hazelnut, salted caramel, and mango. They were delicious! Soft and chewy on the outside with the creamy sweet ice cream inside! They also had more ice cream than I expected. The hazelnut was my favorite with the mango a close second. The caramel one didn't taste quite like caramel to me and wasn't salty. The downside is you can only order in increments of 3, 6, or 12 and they don't come individually wrapped. The staff is wonderful; which holds true for almost all the places in japantown. I'll definitely go back again for well... all of the above.
(4)Lauren A.
Best ice cream in San Jose. Hands down! There's actually chunks of fruit in the ice cream. Want mangos in your mango ice cream? Check. Shredded coconut in your coconut ice cream? No problemo. Goodbye ice cream sold in Mexican stores, hello Jimbos!
(5)Casey A.
We will DEFINITELY be coming back.. Tonight we had the 10-20 ice cream (amaze) and a chocolate chip cookie. I'm very picky about the flavors in a chocolate chip cookie.. my grandma owned a bakery :/ can you blame me? Sorry about it, Jimmy John's, but you have yucky cookies.. Every Italian bakery in Chicago, sorry your cookies are yucky.. JIMBO??? YOUR COOKIES ARE DELISH. A+. You're on the same level as Trader Joe's High-Brows. Congratulations on the dough. CASH ONLY.. so don't forget your dough either.... eh eh?? Good one, right?
(5)Lynn V.
What a cute place! I'm in love with their mochi. Normally I'm not too keen on them but the ones they sell are so delicious. The flavors are so true to taste. We got the lychee, pistachio, and salted caramel. Although they were all amazing, lychee was my favorite. It tasted like I was eating a frozen creamy lychee straight out of the tree. We also had the green tea rice crispy treat. That was good, not great! But you can definitely taste the green tea in that. The best part of our after dinner desserts was the vanilla bean ice cream drizzled with goma. Goma is their specialty...sweet and savory black sesame syrup. It's absolutely to die for. The saltiness comes first then a lovely sweetness takes over to end with the cold creamy goodness of vanilla bean. I'm hooked and I can't wait to come back again to buy a jar of it. The service here is nice and they're very humble. I asked them why they don't sell shaved ice because I can see them doing well with that too. They kindly said that they did not want to compete with their neighbors and friends. I agree =) No bad business in this town. p.s. Their wall of George Takei photos crack me up!
(5)Calvin W.
BUBBIES!!! They have these little mochi ice cream balls of heaven shipped in from Hawaii and have tons of flavors. You can't miss. Try them all, they're all amazing.
(5)Tiffany N.
THIS PLACE IS AWESOME!!! I love the imported ice cream mochi! The service is super friendly and its just a great place to meet up with friends and just chat. I usually visit Japantown for Omogari and Banana crepe but now I have 1 more reason to visit!
(5)Kazandra M.
I am a big sweet tooth and I find this place one of San Jose's biggest treasures. I love all of the mochi they have to offer and I am addicted to their coconut and guave macarons!
(5)Alicia Y.
After having dinner around the corner at Rehoboth Ethiopian Cafe, we stumbled upon Jimbo's and got 3 ice cream mochi. Super yummy and lots of flavor options.
(5)Lonny B.
Mochi was goooooooood. You guys have to try it. The worker there I didn't get his name but the older gentleman was really friendly; nothing but smiles haha 5 stars
(5)Christy L.
This place is really cute. The people that work here are extremely friendly. The snack foods are great, love the jimbo roll, hot link bowl is ok also. My fiance loves the mariannes ice cream. Their ice cream sampler is such a cute idea. Their party mix is pretty good too.
(5)Po L.
This review is just for the mochi ice creams. I went in yesterday to grab a dozen of the mochis, one in each flavor, and some macaroons. The lady behind the counter inform me nicely that they are no longer carrying the macaroons because the lady that makes it, decided to stay at home with her kids. customer service wise, it's 5 stars, but the mochi..... i dont know, maybe its because i had it in my fridge, but when i ate it the next day, it was just ok. maybe i should ate it right then and there to understand the all the hype here on yelp. i will definitely be back to try the hot dogs tho!
(3)Elizabeth S.
Mochi ice cream better than Mikawaya's in Little Tokyo (LA)?! YES. -Passion Fruit: I love the tartness in this. You can DEFINITELY taste the passion in this fruit-flavored mochi morsel of deliciousness!! -Pumpkin: it seriously tastes like Fall. I absolutely LOVE seasonal Fall/Winter flavors so when I saw pumpkin, I thought SCORE. This definitely lives up to the flavor. -Chocolate coconut: I also love coconut. I'm not a big fan of chocolate, but Bubbies makes it damn well. The mochi flavor seems to be chocolate, while the coconut is the inside ice cream part. It tastes just like young coconut. Do you love coconut ice cream? How do you think the Trader Joe's coconut ice cream is? Do you find it tasty and delicious? THIS IS JUST THE SAME IF NOT BETTER WITH TASTE. -Lychee: I'm not a huge fan of lychee so I can't really recommend this. However, it does have that lychee taste. The reason why I give this place a 4/5 is the hot dogs. I tried the Jimbo roll and didn't think it tasted like anything special. In fact, I was really disappointed with the taste and overall flavors. ): QQ, at least I'll be willing to give the Cream Cheese one a try next time I'm in the area!
(4)Jeziell B.
Nice little dessert spot in Japan town. They have Marianne's Ice cream (originally from Santa Cruz), and plenty flavors of Bubbies Mochi (which is a Hawaiian favorite), and I guess now they also have Macarons. Usually not that busy, just opened up in 2012 so I'm guessing they'll get busier as it gets warmer this upcoming year.
(4)Thomas N.
So why do I love local restaurants? Jimbo's is a great example why. Jimbo's features some damn good products, including Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz, CA (try the 10-20 for some amazing caramel-oreo-fudge goodness) and Bubbies(!!!!) Mochi from Hawaii (if you have had Bubbies or read my review, you know what I am talking about.... if you do not know Bubbies, shame on you and go try it!). On top of that, Jimbo's features a selection of quick food items (rice bowls, chili dogs) and home baked goods including cookies and rice crispy treats. The thing I love the most about Jimbo's is the awesome service. Everyone that works there is super friendly and greats every customer with an awesome smile. This kind of service and hospitality defines local restaurants and cannot ever be duplicated by any larger food chains. This kind of service is innate and thank you Jimbo's! I will be back for more ice cream and mochi.
(4)Aaron R.
This place is great! A well sized store with a large selection of foods. From hot dogs to ice cream to the mochis! This place has got it all. I only tried the mochis but man is that stuff good! Mango and passion fruit are on point! they have nice selection of ice cream too. green tea and blueberry cheesecake looked gooood, Ill probably try it out next time. Service was good. The first time i went there we were greeted by some filipino college student dude. He was nice and attentive so thats always a plus. Second time I went there, there was a new chick who seemed to be in training, and she was alright. Other than that, if you want some bomb mochi ice cream, GO HERE!
(5)Justina L.
Im giving it a five star because theu have.my favorite bubbies mochi.ice.cream. Coming from the islands and experiencing these deliciousness, im very happy that theres a place near home where I can get this. Also, I thought that the mochi would be very bad quality since its shipped to the mainland, but it actually was really good.
(5)Chris P.
Very nice people here. Really good mochi. Three for 3.25, not bad. The Jimbo dog was interesting, but I was not particularly a fan it. I would come back for the mochi and the ice cream though!
(3)Ann N.
The owners of this place are SOO nice! They were so so friendly and told me all about how they got their mochi and what flavors are popular. The mochi was sorta expensive but good, except I should've waited a bit for them to thaw because they were pretty hard and cold when I took bites out of them. They also let me sample their sesame sauce which is pretty good! Not sure what I would eat with it...but good! I also got a couple of their macarons which were alright. They were pretty small but nothing outrageously great about it. 4 stars for the great customer services :)
(4)Queena T.
Yummie!!! all their mochi ice creams are very delicious...I just wish their black sesame mochi ice cream is back. Great for a hang out or maybe a date or something to munch on. Must try it out because there aren't much mochi ice cream place around.
(5)Megan K.
I used to eat Bubbie's mochi all the time in college- my school cafeteria sold them in boxes of 9. After I left, I've never been able to find this brand until now! Bubbie's mochi is different than the store bought frozen ones because the mochi outer is not as thick, leaving for more ice cream in the middle (which is what I like). It's also not so sticky and its flatter shape makes it easier to bite into. I also feel the flavors are more subtle and are lighter which is more appropriate when eating a condensed treat. They have tables inside but it's basically a quick-eating type of place, not like a laid back lounge vibe like some dessert places have. 5 stars for just carrying this product!
(5)AJ D.
I love the mochi at Jimbo's! They tasted fresh and were delicious. My favorites were the the guava and honey dew. I also enjoyed the green tea ice cream. The only downside was the parking. Depending on the day and time you go, parking is tough. But it's expected in DTSJ.
(5)Carolyn P.
I've been wanting to stop by Jimbo's since they opened and we finally did! We ordered the 5 mini-cone Marianne's ice cream sampler - so good! Heathbar, 10-20, 50/50, coffee crunch, and macapuno. Best way to have a little of every flavor you love. They had samples of their puffed carmel corm and it's awesome! I'm going to buy a few bags for Christmas stocking stuffers ;)
(5)margaret w.
One word. Bubbies - from Hawaii. Shut the front door.
(4)Jesse M.
I can't believe Japan Town now has a spot that is open late and will attend to your "fatty" needs and I mean that in a VERY GOOD WAY! :) The Ice Cream is TO DIE FOR! They even sell Mochi Ice Cream which my stomach couldn't take just yet, but, trust, I'll def be a Regular AT LEAST once a week! I think the Ice Cream I had was called 10-20? Caramel + Fudge + Oreo Cookies = HEAVEN! Plus, Rainbow Sherbet was yummy as well! 2 of my favorite flavors. I haven't found Rainbow Sherbet at too many Ice Cream spots, so this place def made me happy. I also bought Red Velvet and Macha Krispy Treats which I've been saving to devore shortly. The atmosphere is VERY friendly! The Owners/Staff are so welcoming! THIS PLACE IS AWESOME AND I AM SO THANKFUL THEY OPENED! I will rave about this spot to all my homies and especially, cousin who LOVES Ice Cream and Mochi as much as I do. :)

Jimbo's is a cute little dessert place next to SJ Omogari in Japantown. After sampling some ice cream flavors, we saw the sign for mochi! They sell mochis in 3s. My friend and I were in for 6. We tried: passion fruit (my favorite) mango guava strawberry chocolate chip chocolate coconut pumpkin All of them were good and we were kind of crazy for eating ice cream mochi when it was super cold outside but they were worth it. For 6 mochis, it cost $8.95 which isn't too bad. I'm glad we didn't have to purchase the same flavors or else we would have just ate ice cream. The other baked goods seem a little pricey... like $2 for a simple cookie.. umm.. just come here for the mochi! :)
(4)Alyssa L.
About $6 for 3 mochi ice creams. They are served really hard and frozen. The ice cream flavors in the mochi are good but since the mochi is so frozen, it's not that great. I prefer soft and doughy mochi like the ones found at Mikawaya in Little Tokyo in LA. I always feel ripped off when I come here craving Mikawaya standard n then realize it's just not the same!
(3)David K.
Pretty cool little shop in j-town but damn 4.95 for 3 bubbies mochi? The black sesame one that they had as their special one was awesome!
(3)Ellin C.
This review is only for the Bubbies Mochi that we tried. Haven't gotten a chance to try the other items on the menu (hot dogs, desserts). We tried three bubbies mochis (mango, passionfruit and guava). They came a little too frozen, but when we tried it, the mochi wrapping on the outside was stiff and hard. Even after waiting for the mochis to defrost a little, it still wasn't that delicious. Maybe they taste better if they were fresh and a little more defrosted. Otherwise, the cafe itself is cute, with friendly staff. Love the decor on the wall.
(3)doug s.
love this place! The ice cream and manju ice cream are delicious! I haven't had a chance to try the sandwiches or hot dogs yet but I loved hearing all about the different versions they'll be serving. The owners/staff are all super friendly and their excitement for their new business is contagious and heart warming. It's like they're all family - uncles, aunts, cousins. I'll be hard pressed not to stop by after every meal in J town but I hope others will also make Jimbo's a part of their regular J town routine.
(5)Janice N.
Should try the samples including the chocolate and mint chocolate flavour. Those two are very good and unlike other chocolate ice creams I have ever eaten before
(4)Christine Y.
We had the Teriyaki Dog, the Jimbo Roll, and mochi ice cream (pistachio, mango, and green tea). The onions in the Teriyaki Dog weren't overwhelming and I liked the idea of eating a hotdog in a sushi roll. The mochi ice cream was imported from Hawaii and it was delicious!
(5)Jeff S.
The staff is really friendly and accommodating. We had a lot of questions but the guy at the counter was really patient with us, and explained to us that their Bubbies mochi is shipped in from Hawaii. They also have a good selection from Marianne's ice cream shipped over from Santa Cruz. We even got some great recommendations from the guy about other desert places to eat in Hawaii. Definitely will be going back to try out some other things. As mentioned it's cash only, and when we went it was fairly crowded on a Friday night.
(5)Julia P.
This place is all kinds of great, bundled into a small dessert/quick eats spot. My friends and I had dinner near here and saw that Jimbo's was newly open, so of course we came in to check it out... Pros: Above all else, the staff (friendly, cheery and welcoming) Ice cream - they carry Marianne's!, that you can typically find in Santa Cruz..Try the 10-20 ice cream and you won't regret it! Serve food (japa dogs and rice bowls - will try em another time) Hours - were open late on a Fri night Location - in the heart of Japantown in Downtown SJ Cons: Not enough tables (this is a good thing for their business though!) My friends and I came in on Fri night and it was packed! The friendly man behind the counter did notice that we were a bit crowded and offered to get more chairs - so jolly and friendly! Accepts Cash Only - I think and hope that if business picks up with word of mouth that they will invest in a credit card machine (it's understandable since they're still fairly new and credit card processing fees are steep for a new business) Dale and Chip ladies - thanks for being so sweet to my boyfriend and I the two times we've come in ^_^ I hope that Jimbo's will gain popularity and stay for a long long time - they're just too awesome!
(5)Ren L.
After dinner at Omogari, I went here for a quick snack. I opted for the mochi that apparently comes from Hawaii. I've had this same mochi before, and eating the passionfruit reminded me that I should be back in Hawaii like, yesterday. It brings back such great memories! The only gripe is that the mochi is quite expensive here compared to the one back in Hawaii, though I can probably assume that shipping and all of that has to be covered and stuff. In any case, this was a great find.
(4)Anne D.
Really love their green tea ice cream. I came here only once so I haven't tried their mochi yet but I hope to soon.
(5)Kristen T.
You could not believe my excitement when I heard that Jimbo's sold BUBBIE's Homemade mochi ice cream. I've been eyeing this place for months and finally had the time to try it. The service was very nice and even offered samples of their ice cream while we were waiting in line. I decided to just go with my choice of mochi ice cream (pistachio, pineapple coconut, and green tea). The mochi was perfectly chewy and ice cream full of flavor- meshing the two components together just created a sensation in my mouth! seriously, come here for their mochi, you won't be disappointed.
(5)Cristine I.
I came across this place after having dinner with my family next door at Omogari's. Someone actually had to point out "Hey look they have macarons" and without hesitation I said "Yes!" and walked right in. I absolutely love their green tea and black sesame macarons considering they're 3 for 2.75. After skimming through other reviews it looks like the mochi ice cream will be getting a taste test as well.
(5)Kim N.
THIS PLACE IS CRACKLACKIN'! The mochi ice cream was a flavor explosion on my taste buds! So yumz! I got green tea and pumpkin ice cream mochi (I was feeling adventurous with the pumpkin). And, both of them were just soooo deelicious! There's just soo much flavor in them and perfect for a little dessert. The sizes are not tooo tiny. They're bigger than the mochi ice cream you would buy in a box! Only con is.. they're a little pricey, but hey! Mochi ice cream will forever be pricey... Q__Q Definitely worth that extra couple dollars. I SHALL BE BACK FOR YOU DEELISH MOCHI ICE CREAM BALLS! I'm so happy to have stumbled across you in my search for delicious dessert in San Jose! And the servers are really friendly!
(4)Rose M.
Bubbies mochi direct from Hawaii! I had actually never had it before Jimbo's, but it is so yummy and large pieces! They also serve Marianne's ice cream (Santa Cruz) which is cool. This place is a great addition to Japantown, especially since there wasn't an ice cream parlor nearby besides Foster's Freeze. Try to goma flavor while it's available! It is a bit spendy for an ice cream shop, but remember, they're get it straight from Hawaii and Santa Cruz, so I feel like it's a fair trade. Also the workers are very friendly! Note: cash only and no ATM in store.
(4)Jessica A.
I love this place! They have bubbies from Hawaii and my fiancé and I are addicted! We love it so much that we were coming every weekend to get at least a dozen each time. My favorite favors are guava, green tea, pistachio, lychee. I love all of them. The only downside is that the mochis are pricey!
(5)Steve W.
This is a unique place in Japantown it has the best hot dogs in Japantown. it has dessert and some of the ice cream is from Hawaii. Very good place to eat hot dogs and have a beer.
(5)Vinky I.
3.5 stars. I came for the Bubbies aka mochi ice cream and even though I was slightly disappointment by the actual mochi, I really enjoyed the ice cream inside. My argument may be a little steep but hear me out. The mochi skin for me was a little too dry for me and yes I know it was frozen prior and you're supposed to wait for it to defrost. After waiting for it to almost melt, it didn't really taste anything special to me. I actually like Mochi Cream ( yelp.com/biz/mochicream-… ) better in Mitsuwa since the mochi is actually a little chewy and goes amazing well with the soft cream inside. I really did like the ice cream inside but the overall experience of eating mochi ice cream just wasn't that great for me. Bubbies FLAVOR FAVS: Green Tea, Azuki Bean, Pistachio They've also got Marianne's inside, which is really amazing ice cream. Very thick and creamy.
(3)Holly V.
Came here with the kiddos after promising to get some ice cream after sushi. I like the sampler cone thing they have. Its perfect for my kids and I get to choose all the flavors I want. I had the cantaloupe, green tea, young coconut, something mocha or coffee, and strawberry. Theyre ice cream is from Marianne so it was good and creamy. What stand out the most to me was the sweet and salty snack mix. Bought a small bag cause I was curious and OMG! Its soo good! They have other stuff but I didnt try it. But remember, if you come here, try the snack thingy!
(4)Jenny Z.
Fresh ice cream-filled mochi, made from Hawaii and shipped from Hawaii each week. It doesn't get better than this my friends! Jimbo's offers ~15 flavors per week, ranging from traditional (green tea, strawberry) to more exotic tastes (guava, passionfruit, pistachio, chocolate peanut butter). Definitely a great place to pick up desserts for the night!
(5)Karren A.
Came here expecting to be amazed by their products due to how good the pictures and reviews looked on yelp, but I'm pretty disappointed. Literally, right when we walked in, I knew I wasn't going to be into this place. It smelled of something like dirty sewer water; pretty disgusting. Customer service was okay. Guy could've been more friendly, perhaps smile a little. Cashier was nice. She even complimented my cute hipo hand sanitizer holder - give her a star for that... Thanks! We ordered a small bowl of their Hawaiian shaved ice with vanilla & melon flavored syrup. Size was pretty big - couldn't complain about that. Taste was okay. I mean, you can't go wrong with Hawaiian shaved ice, anyway. We also had an order of bubbies (3 piece: 2 cantaloupe, 1 pistachio). Now, I love pistachio ice cream, but their pistachio was not good at all. All of the other pistachio ice cream I've had else where were not salty, but this place was. Cantaloupe was ehhh. For whatever reason it had a sour aftertaste. Uhhh... Weird. Mind you, the bubbies were rock hard when we got them, so we had to wait for it to warm up. I think I'd much rather buy a pack of mochi ice cream from a local Asian super market. And 3 pieces already came out to $5-something. Totally NOT worth the money for it to taste that bad. My fiancé agrees with me on that one. Maybe if the smell of the place wasn't of sewer water, I would've given this place a better rating & maybe I would've had a better experience overall. But I really didn't enjoy anything. Shaved ice was okay. Probably would do better making it myself at home where it doesn't smell.

This place is great for Mochi ice cream and any other desserts you want to try. I've tried the strawberry, lychee, and guava. All were good, but I admittedly didn't wait long enough for it to melt properly. Haven't had to chance to check out much more on the menu, but from my two experiences here, I LIKE!
(4)Vivian Q.
The people who work here are super nice and I love the mochi here! I go the chip and dale sampler so I got 5 different flavors! My fav flavor is 10-20 :)
(5)Ngan T.
I was excited because I had read that this place had mochi from Bubbies (a Hawaiian Homemade Ice Cream Parlor), but much to my disappointment, aside from the assortment of flavors, this did not taste like the Bubbies that I had grown to love. The mochi were probably from Bubbies but it definitely did not have the same homemade taste. These were frozen and shipped over, oh woeful day indeed. The mochi skin wasn't as soft and gooey like how I usually like. It was a very thin layering on top, and had a mild leathery texture. I got the flavors: lychee, strawberry, guava and strawberry chocolate chip. The lychee ice cream was the best, strawberry (usually my favorite of anything) was disappointing and just tasted mehh, guava was kind of bland minus the smell, and I did not like the strawberry chocolate chip. But it just tasted like chocolate ice cream with pieces of chocolate chip inside. Can't taste the strawberry mochi skin. Overall, this was a very "whatever" selection. However, my sister and her friend said the Green Tea mochi was good --"you can really taste the matcha!" they say. And my sister also got the Passion Fruit one, she said it's her favorite --a little sour. Personally, I rather go to the store and buy the mochi ice cream in the box. ^__^
(3)Ann L.
They take Credit Cards Now, they can't remove their Cash Only sign. Nice folks, they offer you samples of Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz. Bubbies from Hawaii mochi ice cream. You have to buy more than one: 3 for $4.95 6 for $8.95 12 for $14.95 Save your money!! It's not very good! Taste like those mochi ice cream you can buy at the grocery stores which are Bad too! I got Black Sesame; Lychee; Chocolate Peanut Butter. Black sesame was ok, lychee ok, chocolate pb had very bad freeze burn! Awful! Macarons looked tiny & over-priced. I didn't try them. Some tables/chairs in the small shop. Charge it!
(2)Norman S.
Chanced upon this nice ice cream shop after lunch at SJ Omogari. It was finally a nice Spring day so why not go for a sugary treat? Mochi ice cream? Even better! The flavors we tried: Pistachio - Champion of the bunch. Smooth, dense ice cream with a rich but not overwhelming pistachio flavor. Lychee - Less successful as the lychee flavor is weaker than I would like. Cookies and cream - Better than the lychee but nothing close to my benchmark for cookies and cream ice cream, i.e. Haagen Dazs. Mochi skin was also not too chewy or too thick. Will try their regular ice creams as well if I'm in the 'hood, which will be a lot!
(3)Brittany C.
Upon arrival ( racing here before they close at 9pm) I see there's tons of people waiting in line. So thinking this place must be THAT good =) I see they not only offer Mochi ice cream but also regular ice cream, hot dogs, beer, and just more junk food lol When it comes to Mochi, you cant just get 1 or 2...SO i got a dozen haha Flavors consist of strawberry, vanilla, chocolate coconut, red bean, green tea, mango, guava, passion fruit, pistachio, and some random flavors of the month. The hype here is all it, if you're into Japanese desserts then this is the place to go in San Jose.
(5)Abe L.
Mochi balls!!! Our favorites were guava, coconut chocolate, and Leche. Here's a tip.... Don't eat them right away. They are too hard and frozen. Wait 5 minutes if you can do it. They will be softer and yummier. =)
(5)Jen C.
OHMAHGAAAHD! I love their Bubbies mochi from Hawaii, they make me hula dance!!! This isn't the mochi you get at the grocery stores here, that stuff sucks! Those are doughy! The mochis here are lightly sweet and so freakin' yummy in my tummy! The mango, chocolate-peanut butter and pistachio are my favorites! The passion fruit tastes like mango, the guava is alright, and the rest of the flavors are good. FYI, you can only purchase in multiples of 3, 6, or 12 or the Mochi Nazi is gonna get you! NO MOCHI FOR YOU! I also tried their super tiny macarons, 3 for $2.75. They're barely larger than a quarter, I wish they were bigger. The black sesame was excellent and the pistachio macaron didn't taste like pistachio (or was it green tea that didn't taste like green tea?), just a light sweetness. I was turned off by the lavender macaron, it's like I had a shot of perfume. I don't want to try any more macarons at this place. Too expensive for something so small! They serve Marianne's ice cream which is very good and it's fun to sample before I choose a scoop! They have other things on their menu like strange hot dogs and beer but I just go for the mochi! Be sure to bring cash!
(4)Amy T.
Bubbies in San Jose. They were great to add ice so we can get back to SF with it! So good!!!
(5)Elaine N.
Everything I want and more is at Jimbo's. Hot dogs, beer, and dessert! I am ecstatic Jimbo's carries Bubbie's mochi ice cream from Hawaii. I literally stormed in the store and ordered every flavors that was available. - Guava = smell and tasted great! - Passionfruit = tart and flavorful. MY FAVORITE! - Pumpkin = anything seasonal and has to do with pumpkin...I will love! - Black sesame = delicious and unique, also one of my favorite. - Mango = good, typical flavor. - Strawberry = great, something you would expect . - Green tea = typical flavor but still tasty. - Pistachio = delicious with a nutty crunch. - Chocolate = good and simple I also got some macarons which was small but for a decent price. The service was splendid and the place is absolutely clean. I can't wait to try their hot dogs and grab a beer from here. Definitely one of my favorite late night dessert spot!
(4)Jenny M.
I love mochi ice cream! This is the perfect place to stop for dessert in Japantown. My friends and I split the 12 for $15 deal among 4 people (each person got 3 flavors). I got mango, passion fruit, and chocolate coconut. The mango was decent, but my favorites were definitely the passion fruit and chocolate coconut. Passion fruit was sweet and just a bit sour - super flavorful. The chocolate coconut was a stronger coconut than I expected, but it was a pleasant surprise. The best part about the mochi at Jimbo's is that the flour layer is not as thick as the frozen ice cream mochis you might find in asian supermarkets. There is a good ice cream to mochi ratio. I would come back again! The mochi is a little pricey if you don't split it with friends, but that is all the more reason to bring a group of people here.

Mochi on a rainy day? Why not! Came here yesterday in the rainy boyfriend to try out the famous Bubbies mochi from Hawaii and of course my favorite dessert, the macarons. Since we came in 2 hours before closing, the flavors of macarons were extremely limited but at least they had all the flavors of the mochi. The pricing of the mochi pieces were quite steep so my boyfriend and I just ended up getting 6 mochi pieces to split. I got the guava, green tea and passion fruit. As for the macarons, I got three for 3.25. I ended up getting raspberry, black tea and guava since those were the only flavors left. Once we paid, we took a seat and started digging in. The mochi was absolutely delicious.Unlike the packaged mochi that you see in most common grocery stores, the rice cake layer on the outside of the bubbies mochi overly chewy or sticky. The guava and green tea were my personal favorite ones out of the three. I thought the passion fruit one had too much of a tart which I wasn't too huge of a fan for that flavor. After getting a brain freeze from all the mochi, I started eating the lovely macarons that I got. The first one I tried was the raspberry which I thought was decent. I've tried quite a few macarons around the bay area and some in Hawaii and thought that it wasn't too special. As for the black tea one, I thought it was pretty good. It had a nice subtle taste of tea to it without being too overpowering. Definitely worth getting. Finally the last macaron was the guava one with a little heart on it. This was my favorite one out of the three I got. The way the guava flavor worked in the macaron was similar to the black tea in a sense that it was subtle and not overpowering. All the macarons had a really nice crunch to it followed by a chewy texture to it. Even though the prices for the mochi is pretty steep, I'll probably come back because it's so darn good. Hopefully there's more macaron flavors next time! PS: The pricing of the items changed so don't expect the prices to be the same as the yelp pictures!

My friend said she wanted to try Jimbo's they have mochi ice cream and not only do they have mochi ice cream, it's Bubbie's mochi ice cream! I personally have never tried Bubbie's but my friend has had them in Hawaii and swears they are the best mochi ice cream she has ever had! We'll, if you know me, my ears perked up at BEST and I wanted to try it! We got: Lychee, Passion Fruit, and Guava *sigh I wanted to like them I really did but even my friend who swears by them felt like these were not as good as the one she had tried in Hawaii (which means I probably have to go to Hawaii to get the REAL experience). I was fairly disappointed with the lychee and guava flavor because well, they lacked flavor. But good thing the passion fruit was packed with flavor or I would have been extremely disappointed with my experience with Bubbie's - I actually really liked the passion fruit mochi ice cream and it was just a delight to eat because that little thing was packing a punch. But even so, 1 out of 3 had flavor, which is not a good sign. Maybe I just need to fly down to Hawaii and try it in the flesh, I must remind myself that when I am in Hawaii I must go to Bubbie's!
(3)Bena W.
Yummmyyy green tea and strawberry mochi ice cream!! The best! Bit pricey though. Pretty fancy. I really enjoyed their mochi ice cream, don't think it can get better.
(5)Christine S.
My review is also for the mochi icecream. Since the first time I visited Jimbo's, I was hooked. I always make a stop here after dinner in Japantown and order extra mochi icecream to take home!
(5)Tiffany N.
Great mochi ice cream flavors! I really wanted to try all the flavors but I was content after eating six. I'll be back!
(5)Janet O.
We dropped by two days ago when they had their soft opening. It's a fairly small location right smack in the middle of J town. It's close to the Korean restaurant. We tried their choccolate coconut Mochi. It was really good. Perfect consistency on the mochi side. I noticed that they do sell food bowls as well. So much more to try! It's a family owned biz and CASH ONLY please!
(4)Roger P.
The first time I was introduced to mochi ice cream was in a sushi restaurant. What is the ice cold chewy treat?! The flavor was green tea. I thought that was all the flavors it came in. Then I came to jimbos! There was an assortment of flavors! Guava, pineapple, lychee, chocolate peanut butter are but only a few of the many different flavors! It's such a refreshing little treat! Great for those hot days and warm nights. I love how it just melts in your mouth slowly. The "rice dough" I believe that coats the outside of the ice cream, melts slowly keeping your mouth nice and cool! They are pretty addicting I have to say! A great find in the South Bay!
(5)Kathy Y.
WOW. You had me at mochi ice cream. I love how this place is so customer friendly. The man (who I assume is the owner) gave us samples of the ice cream even though we were going to order mochi. I will return for more ice cream and mochi ice cream! We ordered: black sesame, pumpkin and pistachio. ALL GOOD mochi ice cream flavors. This place not only has ice cream... they have beers and macaroons! Also a variety of other baked goods. There are portraits on the wall and the owner gave us a brief history of all of them. I love coming to places where workers get to know their customers. If you're already in Japantown, eat your lunch/dinner and head over to Jimbos for a sweet fix.
(5)Lux L.
came here because my daughter wanted to check it out. she loved what she ordered, i tried their butter mochi, man it is on point!!!!! taste so good. you have to try it.
(5)Leila N.
Green tea are the best here. Blueberry is also delicious. Keep an eye out because I did found hair in mines but accidents do happen
(4)Steph C.
THERE IS BUBBIES IN THE BAY AREA THIS IS NOT A DRILL even the pumpkin one (i know i totally side-eyed my friend) was fantastic and full-flavored. They also sell Jim Bowls, which is chili and cheese on top of rice sprinkled with fritos. Refreshing.

Located in Japantown Jimbo's is in soft opening at the moment with the grand opening in a couple of weeks time. Their main food items are Mochi Ice Cream ( yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… ) and Marriane's Ice Cream ( yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… ) but they also have some Cookies and Crispy Treats ( yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… ) along with some candy bars and chips located by the till. Various drinks include some Beers, Juice, Tea and Coffee. The store is a good size with a small amount of indoor seating, staff are really friendly and when I ordered my two Mochi's informed me that if I got three they work out cheaper.. Nice upselling there! Of course I'm not going to say no to more Mochi. Mochi Pricing: 1 peice - $1.35 each 3 pieces - $1.08 each 6 pieces - 0.99c each More pricing can be found here: yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… I got he Strawberry ( yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… ), Mango ( yelp.com/biz_photos/vsRY… ) and Passion Fruit. The Mochi are extremely hard when they first come out of the freezer so I was informed that they're better if you wait a short while before eating and I have to agree. The mochi is some of the softest I have ever had, absolutely delicious! Out of the three I found the Mango to be nicest of the flavors and quite strong. The Passion Fruit had a nice crisp tartness to it but the Strawberry I wasn't so keen on and tasted a little artificial but the Ice Cream inside makes up for that. If you're in Japantown and looking for a nice treat - Come here! I recommend this place over Shuei-Do Manju over the street any day.
(5)Noel B.
The mochi ice cream was firm, tasty, and not too sweet. We had passion fruit, green tea, and red bean (not sure). The price was right. Venue was eh and not very commendable, but I liked the vintage boxing decorations. Food-wise, 10/10 would go again.
(5)Yannie S.
If you're looking for a place to get mochi ice cream in San Jose this is the place! They don't have an overload of flavors which is great because you're not stuck picking and choosing. Don't forget to wait about 5 minutes before digging in! It's hard as a rock when you first get it! LOL
(4)T D.
Really kind of disappointed by the mochi ice creams and jimbo hotdog. Mochis: ice cream filling was good, fruity flavours were interesting for this traditional dessert. However the mochi skin itself is below average, for 10 dollars you now get only 6 mochis, to be honest I think the supermarket brands has lot better texture and is lot cheaper. Jimbo hot dog: it looks nothing like the yelp pictures! tastes OK but really doesn't worth $7.50. Will I ever return for mochis or hotdogs? No thanks.
(2)Victoria C.
I came here with an agenda of getting the ice cream mochi. The ice cream mochi was delicious! I've always been hooked on the store bought ice cream mochis but these are much better. It's a little pricy but I'm willing to come back for more. 3 mochis for $4.95. There was about 9 different flavors and about 6 seasonal flavors. I opted for green tea, mango, and lychee. The other options they had were guava, strawberry, passion fruit, strawberry w/ dark chocolate, chocolate peanut butter, and chocolate coconut. I love how there's beer, hotdogs, and other goods for sale. Already planning for a second trip!
(5)Jan P.
Oh my sweet mochi goodness! These mochies are PHENOMENAL!!! After eating a chunk of Korean food from next door, we decided to have some sweets. I stumbled upon Jimbo's, ordered a few mochis (green tea, ultimate chocolate and strawberry) They are all fantastic. It just freezes and melts in your mouth. Unique dessert place in the area. I loved the ultimate chocolate mochi! :) I will come back here for more!
(5)Christina N.
Jimbo's has the best mochi I've ever had! The shell isn't too thick nor is it coated in a ton of flour, it's perfect! The blonde man serving us provided great customer service, very cheerful and attentive :) I do hate how they don't open until the evening before Wednesday's though, I was excited to grab some mochi here after eating at SJ Omogari only to find out it was closed :(
(5)Brandon Y.
Wut. When did this little local stop pop up?... Dad, bro, and I were in the area doing a bit of shoppin when we decided to check this place out. Even though I was really full from J-town lunch a half hour before, my family suggested I try it, and was I glad I did... Looking over the mochi ice cream flavors, I was sold. Lychee, Kurogoma (black sesame) & Guava were among the three that I had never tried before. All three were amazing - I wondered how they were able to get those flavors in the ice cream, and I appreciated that the mochi ice cream didn't get too sticky like some other brands. I also noticed Marianne's ice cream and the hot dog rolls too - I'll have to come back and try those also :) P.S. Check out the wall of SJ local paraphernalia, which included mayors, Congress, and famous Asian Americans in politics - plus stars for being locally and politically conscious!
(5)Amy D.
I was bummed that I missed out on trying Bubbies mochi ice cream during my last trip to Hawaii, so was super excited to find out Jimbo's has them flown in appx. every other week, and they are located in San Jose (Japantown). I stopped by on a weekday around 1pm, and there were a couple people in the store. You can purchase mochis individually, or receive a discount if you purchase in certain numbers of mochi. The best deal is 12 for $14.95 (what I decided on), and I purchased a few of each flavor to try and also for friends: Passion Fruit, Guava, Green Tea, Lychee ( yelp.com/biz_photos/jimb… ). They were unfortunately out of mango and a couple of other flavors at the time. My favorite out of the 4 I tried was definitely the Lychee, then guava, green tea, and the passion fruit was the least favorite, although it was still good. I will definitely be back to try more flavors and to purchase more of the Lychee flavor! They also sell food like hot dogs and rice bowls, as well as ice cream from Marianne's. The owner also seemed really nice and friendly. Parking can be really difficult since there aren't that many spots on the main street, but there is additional parking a couple of blocks away. It's definitely worth circling a few times for mochi from Bubbies!
(4)Alice W.
I love the bubbies mochi ice cream! the best are green tea, black sesame, & mango. The passion fruit had rather fruitless taste. Macaroons are not bad but I've had better. They also serve Marianne's ice cream from Santa Cruz and you can add a special homemade black sesame caramel sauce. Jimbo dog is not that special in taste but if they make the rice into sushi rice the dog would be a lot better.

If you are missing Bubbie's from Oahu, don't fret, Jimbo's has you covered! They carry most of Bubbie's more popular flavors. Of course, it's a little pricier than Bubbies in HI, but they're saving you the plane fare. :) 3 pieces - $4.95 6 pieces - $8.95 12 pieces - $14.95 They have other awesome stuff like the Jimbo Roll (DH loves it), baked treats (rice krispie treats, macarons, etc.) and they serve Marianne's Ice Cream. Don't miss the Coffee Almond Fudge + Green Tea + Cantaloupe Ice cream from Marianne's are must-try's! The owner is so pleasant and will even give you his honest opinion on flavors.

Their shaved ice was delicious. Their mochi was even better, especially the chocolate mocha and vanilla mochi.

Simply amazing! The perfect little shop in Japan town that offers fresh mochi ice cream. There are 16 flavors. For a dozen $18. My favorite flavors are: watermelon, chocolate chip, green tea, strawberry, and pistachio!

Went here with my girlfriend. Parking was hard to find because it is by so many good restaurants so I just parked in a spot and sent my girlfriend in to get some mochi ice cream. These were a little more expensive then what I paid for other mochi ice cream. Got 6 different flavors. Only tried 1 so far. But texture and taste was great. Must try? Sure Try again? Pricing puts it up there. But if it is not out of my way I will go here

Only been here once. Wasn't impressed. We came for the Bubbies (ice cream mochi), but honestly, the frozen ones that you can find at any Asian grocery are just as good, if not better. I got my hopes up from reading other reviews, reading things like "shipped from Hawaii" and "to die for" but I found them pretty bland and the texture of the mochi wasn't good. We also ordered a Jimbo roll which is basically a large sushi roll with a hot dog as the center along with some pickled veggies inside. It was okay as a carnival food, something you would get at a streetside booth, but nothing I would go out of my way to go back for. And just a side note--that day, there happened to be a sake festival going on in JapanTown and Jimbo's had every employee of theirs on hand--like 8 people crammed behind the counter and they came off kind of desperate. And even though they had 8 employees, they weren't very helpful. In fact, I asked what a Jimbo roll was, and the guy couldn't even explain what it was. Rather pathetic. We got 6 bubbies and two Jimbo rolls and it came to $30.00. What? Really? That was my first and last time at Jimbo's.

Just stopped by yesterday for some mochi after dinner. I've heard great things about Bubbies in Hawaii so I was psyched that they had it in SJ. Ordered 18 pieces in a variety of flavors. I kinda had to guess which was which though... and I have yet to eat them all Goma: LOVE LOVE LOVE Strawberry: as it should taste Green Tea: really good! Mango or passion fruit? (not sure which one it is): Sour, not my favorite My friend also had the cream cheese dog. Looked amazing. Service was really friendly and helpful; they even offered to keep our mochi in the freezer while we were waiting for our hot dog to finish. So thoughtful! I am sad that they shorted us one and I wish they opened earlier in the day and would take card. Nonetheless, I will return for more and try their other stuff as well!

We were leaving the Obon Festival, which was around Fourth Street and Jackson Street in JapanTown, when we decided to pop by Jimbo's. Jimbo's was just a little further down the street from where we were. Jimbo's is set up simply with seating for chomping on mochi and chatting and a little area outside to eat your desserts and hang out as well. Jimbo's offers Marianne's ice cream and macarons (so I hear) as well, but I had my eyes set on the mochi, the Bubbies. The mochi are only sold in sets of three for $4.95 for the three. A bit pricey, but fun and worth it for a treat for dessert! Since I imagine it would be such a pain to try a sample of mochi before purchasing, I asked the opinions of the two guys behind the counter regarding what to order. They were both really sweet and helped me narrow down the three flavors to pick. In the end, I picked out ultimate chocolate (seasonal), honeydew (seasonal), and strawberry dark chocolate chip. The mochi on the outside of all the Bubbies is velvety soft and sweet, but not overbearingly so. The ice cream was soft, but not too airy or dense. Now, about those flavors I selected: The honeydew was too sweet and lightly flavored, as is usually the case with juicy fruit-flavored ice cream (e.g. watermelon, any kind of citrus, or pineapple). The mochi on the outside was honeydew-flavored as was the ice cream on the inside. Good, but definitely not my favorite, but I wanted to try it, though, since it was only seasonal and lighter than the other flavors I selected. The ultimate chocolate was delicious with little flecks of chocolate chips in the ice cream. The mochi on the outside was chocolate and perfectly chewy and light. The strawberry dark chocolate chip had strawberry mochi on the outside and chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips on the inside. This last one was definitely my favorite! I'll definitely be back to try some more Bubbies and other goodies here! TIP: Let the mochi sit around for a minute or so to let the ice cream soften up a bit! It might take more or less time, depending on how cold your mochi are when you receive them!

An official distributor of Bubbie's ice cream mochi. I highly recommend getting the passion fruit flavor, even if you don't like fruit flavored desserts. Jimbo's has the laid back cafe vibe I always feel from local cafes in San Jose. I'm immediately reminded of warm days during college. It echoes a tiny bit indoors but I love the Japanese-Hawaiian-American decor inside. I have a feeling it's someone's personal record collection on the wall. CASH ONLY. Don't say I didn't warn you.

What is better than a variety of flavors for Mochi ice cream. I can not think of anything. This is a great place to go for a nice dessert. They also have traditional ice cream and other snack foods.

Bubbies on the main land? I love how the ice cream ratio is more than the mochi. Some people like more mochi but I think this is the perfect ratio. The flavors were really good too, they weren't overally sweet but perfectly sweet! We also got some Marianne's ice cream since they were there, I recommend the 10-20 which is my favorite!

I love their mochi ice cream! My favorite flavors are pistachio, green tea, strawberry & strawberry dark chocochip. You can't go wrong with this place if you're craving something sweet. My first time having mochi ice cream and I was a happy camper. I'll definitely be back :)

I love mochi.. I love ice cream.. hot damn I love mochi ice cream. I always get the damn box (I forgot the name, the one that is in the half gold, half black box) from Trader Joes or 99 Ranch. I was leaving Japantown when I skee-skirted an illegally U-y to get to this place. What I swallowed (choice of 6 ice cream mochi balls for $8.95): MANGO MOCHI: Great tasting mochi without tasting fake. LYCHEE MOCHI: This was a light but delicately flavored lychee mochi. Really good tho. COCONUT PINEAPPLE MOCHI: Creamy coconut-y flavor with little bits of pineapple. Awesome tropical flavor. PISTACHIO MOCHI: Lil' bits of pistachio that tasted creamy and wonderful without being overpowering. PEANUT BUTTER CHOCOLATE MOCHI: I ordered two for the Canadian and he was nice enough to give me a bite. This had a great chocolate flavor with a creamy, not overpowering peanut butter center. This was a really good mochi too. I LOVED every single mochi that I ordered from there. I ate the first four mochis in the car before I even got home and regretted that I only got four for me. Really good flavors and the mochi is so doughy and yummy and not sticky at all. I would definitely come back for these lil' frozen balls of happiness.
