Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Yelpers led me astray on this one-which nearly never happens. I stopped in for an Americano and an oatmeal with fruit and flax. Fast service, but the lady gave me everything to go when I asked to eat in. The Americano was decent, but the oatmeal was watery, clearly just came out of the microwave. There was plain flaxmeal sprinkled on top (ew-should have been flaxseed cooked with the oatmeal!), and everything was watery. The fruit was just half of a green apple (which is neither mixed fruit nor the appropriate fruit pairing for oatmeal). I took my accidentally to-go breakfast and hit the road for better venues.

My first stop here was for a hot cocoa as I walked into the Mission, and it was a fine hot cocoa indeed. Hot, rather on the largish side with frothy whipped cream and a rich chocolate flavor (not sure what kind they use). Great, I thought, I'll try this place for lunch. Despite the huge TV on the wall (which I smited with my handy TVBGone!), I went in one afternoon and ordered pesto pasta & a salad. I gotta say that both were so bland that even dousing it with salt and pepper and powdered parmesan AND Tapatio didn't help much. The staff were really nice and efficient, but with better choices in the 'hood, I'm not sure I'll pop in again.

Just walked by this place today and found that after having been closed forever it was finally open as a new establishment....so I had to go in! Cute, bright, sunny corner spot in an industry-type neighborhood. The owners and staff seems super excited to have people stopping in and were very nice. I had the BLT and was very surprised to find the bacon crispy (a really unusual thing), the lettuce not wilty, and the mayo nice and tangy. Prices were reasonable and it's a no brainer that I'll be back.

Dang, wish I knew about this place sooner, would have been 10lbs heavier by now Very reasonably priced corner, neighborhood, real kitchen that's open early (7am), nights and weekends w wifi Order at the counter means, you dont need to tip as much Altas cafe doesn't have stove or grill nd Universal is super pricey Also serves beer and wine w/ decent decor as well as bottomless mimosa for $10 The only downside is that its off the beaten path on quiet York street Support this place and keep em in biz Media Gulch needs more eateries like this

Seriously hit or miss. Their coffee is great, the place is spotless, and some of their food is tasty. But when they get it wrong, they get it really wrong: several of the sandwiches I've had there were borderline inedible. The "Italian Panino" I had just now consisted of two leathery slices of ham and some red peppers from a jar. I threw it out after two bites, and I am reeeeeally hungry. Their prices are also out of whack for a place without table service. $9 for a sandwich, and then another $2 for salad and a bushelful of fried potatoes? How about cutting way back on the portions of each side dish, and including one or the other for free with the sandwich? Just a thought.
(2)chris m.
This place is great for the neighborhood. I tried them very early on for dinner, got the roasted whole chicken, which was good but at 20 bux? kinda pricey. today I went back for a sandwich and WOW the black forest ham was SOOOOO good. How often can I say that about a simple sandwich? Not that often, hence the 5 stars. Also, while ~ $7 for the sandwich wasn't cheap, it's also about par for lunch round these here parts. Keep rockin it Taboo! Also, very nice folks there. I live 1.5 blocks from the place so, excited!
(5)Victor V.
Wide variety of foods that are a bit expensive, but definitely tasty. Breakfast bagels and croissants are a must before work at any of the surrounding buildings. Also, homegirl makes a mad mocha. Cumbia, Salsa y Merengue music are usually blasting - and it's a great thing.
(4)Ross M.
I live nearby and eat here often. They are one of the few places in the immediate area that is reasonably priced with good quality food. They are always happy to adjust to your requests. Busy at lunch time but little or no wait the rest of the day. They serve good coffee, not as acidic as many of the nearby coffee shops. Slow roasted turkey smells makes your mouth water. Overall good value, nice hard working people.

Im writing this review as I'm sitting in Taboo Cafe... slightly inebriated from the $10 all you can drink sangria. Excuse the typos. Food tastes like home cookin. And large friggen portions. Love it here. I'm going to stumble home now.
(5)Gene X.
Just had the veggie pizza here but it was loaded with fresh veggie toppings and the cornmeal crust was cooked just right! I hadn't even known Taboo was here, and they were just closing up when I arrived. I'll have to try it again. Seems like a nice lil chill spot.

OK, I like the vibe of this place. Latin music, Salsa, really cool. The food though wasn't good. I had the half chicken (which was pretty small) with rice and a salad on the side. The chicken was REALLY dry. Almost like it was made yesterday and sitting around. The rice tasted similar. The salad wasn't bad though. Maybe try other food options here but stay away from the chicken.
(2)Bill O.
First time here. Great food. Love the build your own salad. I finally found a place near my work with great salads. Also have burgers, sandwiches, tacos, and burritos. It's a very clean space also with outdoor seating. Definitely will be back.
(5)Melinda Y.
Had the brunch today there. The smoked salmon crepe was not bad with the salmon, spinach, cream cheese, and capers. Seems rather simple but somewhat pricey for $10. The shop was quaint and clean. There were tables and seating outside to enjoy the wonderful weather we've been experiencing lately. =)
(3)Dave C.
Great French Toast and coffee. So good in fact that it may be the only thing I ever eat there again. My boyfriend loves the family run atmosphere and comfortable outdoor seating on a calm street.
(3)JC M.
I absolutely love this menu, the staff is great, it's sunny, friendly, music is not too loud, and did I mention the food is delicious. Great find.
(5)Allen S.
Cafe Taboo is an excellent, clean, friendly, small corner sandwich shop. My turkey sandwich was way above ordinary. Roasted turkey, melted cheese, avocado, on a facasia bread. It was yummy. I will be back and with friends.
(5)Tim M.
Cute place....talk about friendly. Totally hectic...yup!! But I feel they will get their groove down. The mistake on my order was well overcompensated by, I believe her name is Amy, the owner. The sandwich still tasted delish. It so nice to have Taboo on my route. 8/18/10 - Just stopped by this morning.... Parking is not bad and I had a KILLER bagel with cream cheese, capers, lox with onion. Man I am pumped to have this deli/cafe close to one of my offices. Plus they had this HUGE turkey in a rotisserie behind the counter...too bad I am not going to be in the area when that baby finishes cooking!!
(4)Tammy C.
(See pics) Review #1108. More like 3.5 stars. Corner cafe in a somewhat quiet / laid back tree-lined neighborhood that also serves rotisserie chicken. The half rotisserie chicken was pretty good, juicy and not too fatty. The Americano was also pretty decent taste. Saw someone's salad and spaghetti and both looked good. Note to come back and try. The space is not too big but they had a few tables outside. Inside the tables were quite packed with a tall communal table with chairs right in the middle. Service was super friendly and big smiles.
(3)Jess C.
I'll start with cons first, because there really only is one: Too expensive for the quality. Not that the quality is bad, but paying $11 for a burrito seems like a ripoff considering the Mission has no dearth of delicious burritos. They do online ordering, are super friendly, and are open late. The people who work there are nice.
(4)Chii M.
Favorite burrito in the city! As such, a little on the pricey side for a burrito ($12) but the portion sizes are generous (enough for 2 meals for me, tiny female), the chicken and veggies are roasted and moist, and the outer tortilla is perfectly crispy. Worth every penny.
(5)Benjamin B.
I absolutely LOVE their Green Rules burrito, but after I add the tip, it comes to almost $15 ... and even for me, that's a bit steep for a burrito. I do love that they claim to use organic ingredients, so perhaps that's the justification for the price. I will keep coming back, but I do get a little sticker shock each time.
(4)Renata P.
Went here on a Groupon looking for a decent Brunch in the city. Off in the middle of nowhere it seems, I did find it with my GPS eventually. The food was decent but not spectacular. The atmosphere and staff were nice. It's small and does have quite the selection of available drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. If I were back in the area I'd eat here again but I'd not go out of my way. Though I admit I did appreciate the gluten and vegan menu but didn't try it.
(3)Ayana K.
Really liked the French Toast. Plus you can't go wrong with bottomless mimosas for $10. It was a nice quiet little place to have a good Sunday Brunch.
(4)Brandon M.
While shooting near here for about a week, we got snacks, coffee, breakfast,etc... Wow, actually strong great coffee from an independent, non chain coffee house. Breakfast burrito was good and freshly made. The cookie was over baked, everyone said how hard it was though you said it was fresh, so yes, over baked. Just telling you so you will fix it, because that was the only problem. Keep the coffee strong and they will come. Also, the chai tea latte was better than Starbucks. Thanks for the free wifi.
(4)Nikfar K.
Nice place for lunch - and for a reasonably priced glass of decent wine right if you go during happy hour. The build-your-own salad is wonderful and makes a very decent meal. Had a cheesy chicken sandwich once and liked it.

Umm...why is my macchiato served in a styrofoam cup?
(1)Bonnie P.
My first experience at Taboo wasn't so great. Ordered fish burger to go for lunch. And it took them over 20 mins to make it... So I ran back to my office, only to find out that they gave me a VEGGIE BURGER. Ugh I paid extra for fish burger, but I didn't have time to run back to the restaurant for a refund or new order. I mean how could you confuse fish and veggie? And you clearly charged me for fish. So frustrating. And the best part? This exact same thing happened to my coworker just a few days before me, except she ordered a real, beef burger. She came back to work and found out she got a veggie patty instead.... They must have overstock of veggie patties that they want to get rid of or something?? You might wanna have more cooks during lunch time, as it was getting pretty crowded, and having 2 cooks isn't enough, clearly. You know, since fish and beef are veggie...

I was wandering around in the Mission heat, doing my damnedest to avoid spending my money at the ginormous Starbucks around the corner... This amazing small business is just what I was looking for! Great corner location with both indoor and outdoor seating. Warm sunny spots and cool shaded seating. The staff is friendly and hospitable. The coffee shop is painted in warm beautiful colors and the music is great! My breakfast burrito is DELICIOUS! If I lived in this hood I'd be here on the daily. Definitely worth a visit!
(5)Susan L.
Always solid food for the price!
(5)Kat L.
The Down Under Fish Burger is the best fish burger I ate in SF so far!
(4)Eric M.
I don't go here much, but when I do, I always like to order their enchiladas. Soooo good! It's also a great place to come on a business meeting and talk about work.
(4)Heather L.
We ordered our staff lunch from here and it was pretty good. I don't know why they get all the negative reviews. I had the chicksadilla. It was a chicken quesadilla and it was too big of a portion for me. It came with chips and spicy salsa. The salsa was SO delicious. We will order from them again when we are craving mexican food.
(3)Bergen F.
I got delivery here and it was so good! although they have a high delivery minimum of 30$ with a 5$ fee, the food was amazing and worth it if you are splitting with someone. I built my own salad and it was so good and fresh with nice dark greens. the sweet potato fries are great too! I've been trying to find a good delivery salad spot because I'm very picky and I think I finally have found the one! good coffee too.
(4)MR M.
I'd never been to SF before and I decided to walk (omg WALK!) around the city. At first I passed Cafe Taboo in the hopes of finding something a little more "dineresque" but after half an hour my tum tum demanded compensation. I sat down (now writing this) in the straightforward square that is their dining area and ordered the #1 rated sandwich, the Big Roti. And then I saw it, a mighty Turkey on a rotisserie behind the young lady taking my order, spinning with a devil may care disposition. I'm happy to say the sandwich was 'solid, both in proportions and overall taste. Accompanied by coffee, which I'm beginning to suspect is just preternaturally better in this city as a whole (LA needs to step up it's game) this made for a solid eatery in a nice part of town... Parking is a disaster however and the Mexican music get's a little under the skin after an hour and a half.

I honestly have no idea how this place is so well reviewed. We came here awhile back and it was mediocre. We decided to give it another chance because of all the positive feedback - never again! We specifically asked for a rare burger - it was well over well done and COLD! The nachos are a joke - they came with those cheap round chips which were so stale I could hardly eat them. Of course that wasn't too bad because most of them were completely soggy by the time I got them anyway. The salad was wilted, bland and had basically nothing on it. Take some advice and avoid this place. We live a few blocks away, there are easily a dozen better places you can go to get more bang for your buck. We will never be coming back here or be giving them another chance. We learned our lesson.

First time ordering. Group order of ~16 ppl. for delivery through ChowNow. Everyone really enjoyed the food, minor issues of dressing being tossed with the salads (for delivery? Am I the only one that thinks this is weird?) and missing straws for the blended drinks. Great selection of items for meat eaters, veg, vegan, and gluten free. Ordering again today!
(4)Eric C.
Small corner of the block place. Air conditioning in the space does suck but it helps maintain the aroma of rotisserie chicken given the lack of air flow in its space. 11 bucks for a baja burrito which is essentially the same thing as a steak burrito you would get from Chipotle. After walking about 4-5 blocks down from munchery in search of a a replacement from having to go to Starbucks, Blue Bottle or coffebar, i had hopes for this place. My gut feeling is that i ordered the wrong item. The Burritos are small for the price. The Steak in the burrito is cooked more towards medium than anything. by the time its wrapped together, the beef was reallly dry. Not very filling, but not up to par yet... Despite its reputation, you get more of a flavor from Chipotle or any of the burrito/taco places on mission rather than getting the Baja burrito from here... Lacking in Beef Freshness/Flavoring. Lacking in Size. Its compact to carry and they carry all the drinks you want, but for this burrito, it is very underwhelming but at least they have food here compared to whats around.. i'll be back to see their other items if i have time.

I have experienced a lot of things in SF over the years. When our food - which was an hour late - finally showed up, the delivery guy who had already been tipped at 15% on grubhub just left the food on the door step after knocking on the door. No big deal, but consider this foreboding in a Yelp review. After about ten minutes a roommate of mine called and told me she was trying to get in our garage but that a crappy Nissan was blocking our driveway with the hazards on. I went downstairs to find that the delivery guy had blocked our driveway and walked about 2,000 yards down to the water to watch the parade. After calling the restaurant to see if they could get ahold of him, he finally showed up after about ten minutes. Instead of apologizing or making any effort to even acknowledge 'my bad' he instead gets to his car and offers to fight me. Tells me, "it was only a moment, I was watching the parade". To which I reply, "I don't give a ----, move your hooptie" Then while standing by his car offers to fight me if I "got a problem". I explain the problem is that after he was an hour late and spilled the mediocre food all over in the inside of the bag, he then blocked my driveway for 15 minutes because while working he wanted to go watch the parade, and what he doesn't seem to understand is that by now not apologizing, or even getting his crap car out of my driveway, he is instead making a very poor decision to try and fight a guy almost twice his size who finds him tedious to deal with. Alas, he chose to get back in his car, and on his way out hit the car parked behind him (which didn't belong to us) and then drove off. When I called to report this to the restaurant, the girl who answered the phone was useless, offered no apologies, and let's just say, here I am writing this Yelp review.

This little cafe was so nice to get cozy in during the storm. They have lots of nice bites for breakfast and lunch, and even beer and wine! And there is a bathroom that was very clean. They were playing lounge-y Spanish music and the cushioned seats near the window are nice to people watch from (or storm watch in my case). Basically, it satisfies all the needs of a quick breakfast and is clean and well-kept, so five stars for me.
(5)Jason B.
Prohibited. Can't eat gluten? Alternative breads are available at no extra charge. Feel free to dive into one of their many good looking sandwiches. This includes the Big Roti. "Grandpa recipe" rotisserie turkey, lettuce, tomato, avocado and onion. Cheese and mayo if you'd like. Not just good looking. Not just good tasting. Great tasting. Gluten free rustic roll made it even better. Fortunately this is a choice. Not a mandate. Bit expensive at $8.35 but the bread options, free WiFi, numerous windows and relaxing space are worth the investment. Two hours of bottomless mimosas and sangria are offered at brunch for just $10. Day drinking is usually taboo. Might be time for a belated end of prohibition celebration.
(4)Divya R.
I'm keeping this short: Long lines. Decent food. Almost-rude staff.
(3)Kathryn H.
We ordered through Eat 24. Our food took 30 minutes longer than the late end of the estimate and arrived cold. Most of the food was bland. We enjoyed the curly fries and empanadas. The hot dog was ok. Grilled cheese and chips and salsa were not good at all. The grilled cheese wasn't toasted and had almost no pesto on it.
(2)Kris I.
This place is currently my go-to spot for lunch and occasionally breakfast, all day, everyday. I go there so frequently that one of the employees (I think the owner?) knows my name, but the menu is so amazing that I still don't have a regular and can't decide what to get for lunch. Great for my tastebuds, bad for my wallet. They have almost everything, and the prices aren't too bad. Want just a simple BLT? They have it. Want a more substantial and nom-worthy sandwich? They have that too. Feeling like some rotisserie chicken, a burrito with fresh vegetables, or a chicksadilla with curly fries on the side? They have it to. Or just want to be healthy with a salad that has 7 of your favorite toppings? Well, you get where I'm going with this.
(5)Sean F.
Its my favorite cafe in the neighborhood. Not the "best coffee", or the "best brunch," but the best mix of both. Combined with a good atmosphere and friendly staff, I could not recommend this place more. I am tired of traipsing about the city trying to put together the puzzle of a decently priced bagel, a coffee, and wi-fi. Some people might be unwilling to do it all for me, but Taboo does it all and does it well. In a world of $5 toast and $5 coffees and wi-filess cafes, Taboo is a well needed dose of the good kind of reality.
(5)Earl S.
Had the BLT on gluten free bread and a glass of chianti. The bill was $14.63, which hardly seems like one $ prices. They were both very good, but the sandwich was teeney. Not what I'd call a full lunch by any stretch.
(4)Rio A.
Finally a place that gets it right! I've lived in the neighborhood all my life and never had a place that I can walk to for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Everything in the neighborhood is either open early but closes early or open for dinner and late nights only. Cafe Taboo is very ambitious being open all day with a smart but simple menu, food is easy quick and f*cking delicious, try the Sicilian Pizza. Heres the added bonus, Beer as low as $1.50 and bottomless sangria, happy hour all day! What more can you ask for? Here's some improvements that can be made. I've noticed when I order espresso there's no thermostat when they make there drinks and sometimes I have coffee not as hot as I want it to be. One more thing, I've had the pizza a few times and sometimes toppings was under cooked. As a former barista and the grandson of an executive chef consistency and timing rules in the food business. Cafe Taboo has become my new place to go to in the neighborhood, I am so glad this place isn't cash only! I hope Taboo makes it!
(5)Melody T.
REALLY love the coffee here - I always try to drive a little bit out of the way to pick up a soy latte here to support local businesses vs. hitting up the local peets or starbucks. Have not tried the food yet - the place is usually pretty empty so you can easily get a seat and grab some food. It's small with a few tables - nice neighborhoody feel with the owners serving you, etc. I do hope this place is able to survive with all the competiton around!
(4)Punjabi S.
I love this place, parking is hard, but people are very-very nice. The owner and servers are great, food is also very good.
(5)Renee R.
I was excited about exploring another SF neighborhood, this time The Mission District, but this café, I'm sorry to say, didn't really measure up. The actual spot is pretty cool. The ceiling is painted my favorite colors, orange and purple. There is a large turkey on a rotisserie that the person behind the counter told me they use for making sandwiches. Impressive. I wished I was staying for lunch! She provided me with the wi-fi code and was responsive and the food came out quickly. I had the Breakfast Combo--scrambled eggs with bacon and hash browns. The eggs were okay, the bacon super greasy and thin and the hash browns were more like the kind of McDonald's variety than home fries. Oh well. I used the ketchup and the hot sauce she brought and it was fine. At least I can appreciate the murals and the feel of the Mission. Quite a few locals came in while I was eating my breakfast and that was sweet too. Nothing to write home about and I'm not sure it was worth driving around the block for 15 minutes to find a parking space. Maybe better during weekend brunch?
(2)Frank L.
Is next door to my office. Friendly staff. Great Latte's. Good sandwiches. The place looks very clean and well maintained. They even have a gluten free option, which is just AWESOME (if you have to eat gf) I would say it is a bit overpriced, a medium latte is 4$ which is even more than what starbucks asks for theirs. But I'd rather spend it here.
(3)Colleen S.
Try their daily specials, had the breakfast link burrito perfect size for on the go!
(5)Dilly M.
After the disappoint of Universal Cafe, was lucky to find this around the corner. Cool, casual spot with lots of tasty food options.
(4)Michael B.
I go to Taboo each morning for an Cafe Americana & some breakfast - I find the people working there very pleasant - especially the lady behind the counter - the food is always well prepared with good ingredients - I would recommend the place highly.
(4)Stacey J.
I always get the veggie sandwich, with side salad and house potatoes. Delicious. A bit pricey, but always good, and the staff is always friendly. They have a little punch card where if you buy 12 meals, you get one free, so that's cool. :)
(4)INTHECITY S.
Was in the area and stopped in for a breakfast burrito. Not small and not large. $5.95 was good price to value IMO. That picante sauce was the winner for me and made the burrito damn good. I will be back to try more of their menu. There was a giant turkey in the rotisserie but do not see any items on their menu that have turkey. Guessing today's lunch special will have something to do with turkey. That rotisserie definitely cranks out some fantastic smells that attract your senses from down the street. Give this place a try.
(4)Francesca M.
I hate being such a downer especially when it comes to local businesses but I have to write an honest review. I came here on a Thursday around 4 pm. First thing that confused me was that although there was a wide variety of items on the menu, all the items that i wanted were only available at certain times. I understand that breakfast items would be served during breakfast but items like sandwiches and salads were only served during lunch. And the dishes that sounded the best were served during brunch on Saturday and Sundays only. It's kind of annoying having to want something than all of a sudden you look at the top of menu and it says "Serving hours from 11am to 3pm" or "Serving hours Sat and Sun 9am to 3pm." Basically, I think it just confuses a lot of people. I ordered the 1/4 rotisserie chicken since there really wasn't much choices for me. The mexican and pasta entrees were a bit overpriced considering it's cafe and I can't really eat cheese or dairy so Pizza is definitely out of the question so I had to opt for the chicken. The chicken piece was a bit dry and didn't have much flavor. The 2 sides I got were the scalloped potatoes and rice. The scalloped potatoes were gross. It was half cold half warm and didn't taste like any scalloped potatoes I've ever had. The rice was also mexican rice. It wasn't very appealing as well. I ate as much as I could cause I was so hungry but my overall outlook was the chicken meal wasn't very appetizing. I think I could have saved some money and went over to Boston Market a few blocks away. The customer service was alright. The guy who took my order was kind of blah. I could barely understand what he was saying. He wasn't really friendly or rude basically he was just "there." I'll update my ratings and try it a second time if I'm in the area for brunch or lunch but other than that, I'm sticking to my two stars.
(2)Melissa T.
A great place to grab coffee or food in a neighborhood with few other options. I have a work studio down the street, and am too lazy to bring my own food to our tiny shared kitchenette, so Taboo is my jam. Not only is the coffee good, the sandwiches are rad, and they have a frequent diner card. I have to admit, the pastries are average and I haven't had many sit down non-sandwich meals there, but the space is nice, the people are friendly, and they have wi-fi. Plus, I've never left without someone saying thank you and goodbye, even when I shuffle in looking like roadkill for my post-hangover early-afternoon coffee.
(5)Michael C.
The staff here are amazingly nice, hardworking people. The cafe is very clean and well kept. The espresso is very very good and the food is really good. It really is my favorite spot in the area. If you're looking for a great place to eat, look no further. -Mike C.
(5)Paul G.
Look, fools: 2 DOLLAR DRAFT BEER, ALL DAY. GOOD beer, like anchorsteam, blue moon, racer, and more. The food is good too. Plus the staff is attentive and the atmosphere is cozy and chill. This place is a hidden gem, and I can't believe more San Franciscans don't frequent it. I don't know how long they can keep this business model up and running, so get in on it while you can! Again, 2...DOLLAR...DRAFT...BEER, ALL DAY. GOOD beer.
(5)Mark C.
Great to see this space is being utilized for a great eatery. I have eaten here 3 times & each meal has been outstanding. The ingredients are very fresh & tasty. For the carnivore, Cafe Taboo offers rotisserie chicken, turkey & a great BLT from what I experienced. The build your own salad is awesome. $6.65 for a HUGE portion of greens and your choice of 8 toppings (veg. style). The sandwich meal comes with a tasty sandwich, potatoes, mixed greens & balsamic salad; All but one combo priced under ten dollars...a rarity in this area. The staff is very pleasant & greets you with a smile when you walk in. The cafe is is stylish, clean and has tables outside. Parking is ample. The cafe is also open until 10:00 PM, so a great place to stop by for a coffee or cookie after work. ( I also remember seeing a beer & wine permit during the construction, so hopefully soon, a nice place to stop for an after work drink.) I highly recommend Cafe Taboo. Nicely done & a welcome sight to the neighborhood.

I actually wish I could give this 3 and a half stars. Food is fine -- but the people are very nice. Great turkey sandwiches carved right off the rotisserie bird.

I've tried to take friends to brunch here twice. Both times the lady working looked put off and angry. Everything is over priced and the worst part, the dining area is infested with fruit flies. Management makes no attempt to solve that issue yet watch patrons swat flies out of their meals

Okay--we live pretty close by and were excited to give this place a try and having been there a half dozen times. The staff is fantastic--super friendly and kind and they always remember our names! They have definitely improved the atmosphere since they first opened this summer. And it is nice that you can sit outside or indoors. I love that you can get certain beers for $1.50--where else is SF can you do that? And I had a lovely glass of wine here for $4 one evening. They also have bottomless Mimosas for $10 and Sangria :) The pastas are delicious --we've tried the Chicken Creme de Cremini which is rich but so tasty--I love those mushrooms and the Spaghetti and Meatballs which is cooked just right with a bit of a salsa type flair to the sauce. The pasta portions are extremely generous too! The brunch also is very good --my favorite thus far being the Spanish scramble--yum!! The chicken sausage is also quite delicious. The most disappointing for me has been the half a chicken. Not that it is not good, the seasoning is tasty, but I have found it kind of dry. The accompaniments such as the scalloped potatoes and the salad though are quite good. I love the salad dressing(!!!) I do wish they had a few better dessert selections--even if they were to rotate them. It would be nice to be able to go have a glass of wine or a good cup of coffee with a nice dessert. Especially as dinner for two can add up pretty quickly for a neighborhood cafe. All in all this is a great little spot to go. I really hope they survive as they have a lot to offer!!

I have been to cafe taboo about 5 times since starting a job up the street from it. Sadly, as a gluten free person, this is not a great place to eat. Their 1/2 chicken is usually a bit overcooked, but not bad. The fajitas are a fair bit of food portion-wise, but none of it worth writing home about. The staff are friendly but always seems to be overwhelmed in the place around lunch time, and other than the girl at the register, most don't seem to speak English. Today, I prefaced my order for a sandwich made into a salad with "I am allergic to bread, can I get this sandwich on a salad" and to their credit, they did try to accommodate me. Sadly, the chicken on the sandwich was breaded, which I did not discover until I was all the way back at the office. So, looks like I get to go hungry all day. I am very disappointed that either my allergy request was lost in translation, or the staff weren't trained for it, or perhaps they simply didn't care. I'm sure I'll wind up there again due to lack of other close restaurants, but if I had more options, I'd probably never go back.

Cute, mellow neighborhood place in an area where there aren't many choices within a few blocks walk. Went for weekend brunch. The food was filling, homey, comforting, and their coffee is great. They have wifi and there was no trouble getting a table. Feels like a family business in the best way. I hope they stick around.

Only ok for brunch, if you like beans, salsa and guacamole from a can. The sausage had huge wads of fat pieces. Coffee, atmosphere and service was good though. I imagine it's a great place to have drinks.

I finally ate lunch here as it is only a block away from where I work. The food was good, decently priced and friendly service. They actually have nice plates too. I was also impressed that they were roasting an entire turkey in the roaster. I will definitely be back.

Me likes the $2 drafts, outside seating, not crowded

Friendly staff, fresh ingredients, great place!

This is my second time here and both times I was impressed by the food...first time was breakfast, second was dinner. Both were very good. It's self service (order yourself at the counter) so I can't really comment on the service except that they are very nice. Great neighborhood spot!

Great lunch spot - convenient, not too pricey, good coffee, and friendly service. My favorite is their mexican fare; baja burritos are probably best north of 24th St and east of Mission. The only downside is the small size so it may be hard to find seats with a group sometimes.

The food and coffee is good, but not either gourmet nor outstanding. The price of the food is competitive with higher quality places. The staff was friendly.

I work down the street and saw this place open. It has quickly become one of my favorite lunch options here. I'd recommend stopping by in the morning for their dollar cup of coffee... it's a quality cup of joe for a donut shop price. If you like to eat a salad for lunch, like I do, you should order one here, I notice a lot of people do and for good reason. Their salads are consistently crisp and fresh. They also have a nice soup / salad combo. But sometimes I get tired of salad and go the complete opposite direction -- pizza. Although they take a little time to make, they are taaasty little individual pies. The rotisserie chicken taunts me from behind the counter but I have yet to order a chicken meal. By time you read this review I will probably have tried it. Generally what I've eaten there is a notch or two better in terms of freshness and quality than the surrounding lunch options. I agree with the reviewer who called this a hidden gem.

this is a good place for lunch, since it's close to my work. the prices and food are decent. although i had the cream of cremini pasta with chicken recently and for some reason it tasted like it had taco seasoning in it, which was odd. the prices are a bit high for some of their items.

I was hoping for more from this place since it's just down the street from my house. Went there for brunch on the weekend hoping for an inexpensive option in the neighborhood. The food wasn't terrible but it wasn't great, and it wasn't inexpensive. Over $30 for two breakfast entrees and two beverages. Everything was obviously out of a can or from a freezer bag which the price did not reflect. But the guy who helped us was very nice and the interior was clean. Just probably won't go back to eat. Maybe for a beer.

The Portobellini mushroom sandwich on rosemary Focaccia, with sauteed onions and lightly melted provolone, is one of the best veggie sandwiches I've tasted. Mind you, I haven't tasted many ... but love this one. The bread was lightly grilled and the delicate smell of rosemary accompanied every bite. Also loved the kick that the sun-dried tomatoes added. Potatoes and salad are nice, but you don't need them to have a full meal. Free wireless makes this place a must-visit again!

i just discovered this place yesterday and i love it!!! service is great, people are friendly, warm, and helpful. i jut had the tuna fish sandwich on sourdough with basil pesto spread and honestly-- it's one of the best tuna sandwiches i've ever had! not that tuna is TOO hard to get wrong, but still-- i was kinda sad when the meal was over. yum! prices are very reasonable too. it's local, it's neighborhood-y, and very low key. my only suggestion is that they turn down the pop music in the background-- not necessarily everyone's favorite music and slightly loud, at that.

great place! great deals. quiet enough to do work at and 2 dollar draft beer at night. not as well known as it should be. the people are also very friendly.

My girlfriend takes a hula hoop class around the corner. While she's hooping, I am here at Cafe Taboo enjoying ever minute. For starters, the beer tastes great (perhaps because they are $2 : ) ! Secondly, the food is so good. The chicken is amazing and the portions are generous. Also, the food comes out fast and hot!! Lastly, the service is great. Awesome spot.

This is my stop for night shifts and SFGH and they have great coffee and chai latte. I loved the veggie pizza too! I have taken their food for my fellow residents at SFGH and they have loved the pizza and rotisserie chicken sandwiches.

These guys are right next to my office. While I wouldn't come across town to try this place, the sandwiches and quesadillas are quite good.

I've never had such a good sandwich in my life. The chicken looked and smelled so good in the oven. MUST EAT HERE!

The Giant and I went there on a rainy Saturday for breakfast and bottomless Mimosas/Sangria. I had fresh Sangria that had an added little spice to it...like Cinnamon or something. Delicious! The Giant had two mimosas that he was content with. My chorizo omelet was great. Giant's banana and nutella crape was pretty delicious too...as I had to sample it! No one was there at 10:30am when we got there and then two big groups walked in about 45 mins later-filling up the little cafe. The employees there were very nice and served us with a smile. Who doesn't love that? I will definitely be back.
