I'm on the fence about how I feel about this place, so I'm giving it an average 3 stars because I wasn't blown away but I didn't hate it either... Top things I noticed: - sushi wasn't rolled very tight. Every slice I picked up from my Titanic roll fell apart - not OK. Lol. Otherwise, sushi rolls are just OK and not worth the $12-14. I've had better. In fact, I've made better. ;) - too expensive - I've had $10 rolls that blew me away at other restaurants. For $13, it better be effin amazing. I will pay for amazing sushi, trust me. - Confused with the message they're sending. When you first see it, it's an open setting with beautiful lighting. It looks pretty.. plating for food is pretty.. but why is it opened up like that? You also have servers that need to be trained on etiquette if you want a fine dining experience for your customers. Or is it casual also? Why am I paying $13 for a roll that didn't taste like heaven and fell apart before it met my plate? Or $11 for a 4pc appetizer? - I will give them this - some of the best and freshest fish I've ever tasted -- good job! Quality of ingredients is on point, just wish the service and menu stood behind it. Overall, I probably won't come back because I've honestly had better. I would drive to Berkeley/Oakland for a better menu and service. I'm a foodie and I couldn't see myself recommending this place to anyone by saying "omg, it's so good there, you have to try it!" I've had fine dining and most places please me. I don't see this place lasting just like the 3 or so other places before this one. I see why the prices are high (quality of ingredients and such), but Pacific East Mall doesn't need a "fine dining" restaurant, let's be real. 168, Pho Saigon and VH Noodle House have survived for more than a decade for a reason... and this location and the one next to it haven't lasted more than a year no matter what restaurant is there.

The food was great..my favorite was the Spicy Q and the Spider Roll..the Firecracraker was also good but little too spicy for me.. Our waiter was super nice.. very attentive.. we will definitely be coming back..

Absolutely awesome, FRESH and delicious sushi ... we heard of KAMZA through a friend ... and seriously, it is a dining place that is on the top of our list. Their SAKE selection is incredible, as is their high-grade sushi combination platter. We drive in from Marin at least 3 times a month to enjoy the authentic, yet contemporarily infused Japanese food. This hidden gem is in the Pacific East Mall which makes it convenient to walk over to the pastry shop next door. KAMZA is excellent!

I came here several weeks ago on a Monday night with my family. Couple tables were filled and they had plenty of staff but we waited and waited and waited... no one greeted us or ask if we needed help for over 10 minutes (including the onwer). When we were finally seated the staff lack knowelege of food, prep time or service. Food is plated beautifully as is the restaurant but for the price I rather go to Berkeley at Ippuku. Hopefully this place hires at least 1 person who has talent to lead the staff.

This is an okay spot to get your Sushi Fix. Happy hour is very reasonable. But you can't count on the hours they post ..i have been there several times and they were not open.

It is gratifying to know that the most redeeming aspect of Kamza Sushi Palace is the quality of the sushi itself! Sampled a couple sashimi cuts, the toro-hamachi and the Saba (which is typically my favorite). Without a doubt however, the hamachi was the best quality I've had in a very long time. The Saba was really good too, just not as spectacularly noteworthy. We also had a couple nigiri sushi, the spider roll and the caterpillar. While both were good, they did not compare to the wow factor of the hamachi but were certainly superior to most other places we've been to. Of course, it does come at a price, and for the area it is slightly higher than one is probably used to paying. However, the ambience is well lit and modern and attention to detail was definitely given to make sure the space itself stands out and the many kinds of sake and other spirits are highlighted. So why three stars? Like many, I agree that the wait staff have to mature, both in professionalism and demeanor. A casual restaurant should not mean a borderline snarky waitress comments on your choice of seating or spends time looking at your gadgets instead of the kitchen. There were also too many wait staff, all bringing a different item and all being guided by the owner at the moment of delivery. I definitely hope that with time this important facet of the restaurant will work out it kinks. Oh, and if you are offered miso soup, be sure to know it's NOT complimentary!

Never again! Came here for the first time tonight and will be the last time...will never go back here again! If I can give them negative stars I would. First, let's talk about the staff....All of them didnt know what the hell was on the menu. The Asian waitress with glasses had no clue what she was doing; she barely spoke and barely understood English. When you asked her something she just nods her head and looks lost. The other staff had to constantly look at the menu when we ordered and kept blaming it on the fact they just changed the menu. Secons, the service....Slow ass hell. When I say slow ass service I mean ridiculously slow. It took them almost an hour to give us water after constantly asking for some. On top of that, our food took over 2 hours to come and one of the people in our party didn't get their order. Lastly, the food... eh! Not worth the price nor the wait. We ordered the tempura dinner plate, spicey nachos, edamame, tempura sushi roll, salmon skin salad, and unagi roll. We never got the unagi roll or the salmon skin salad so I can't tell you if it was good or not but like everything else it probably just ok maybe not even that. They give you a pretty good amount of the tempura. The spicey nachos was pretty bland....needed some salt or something. The tempura roll was just ok....can't go wrong with fried. Overall, I don't recommend this place at all. Let me also add, we ended up walking out since they didn't give us our check after waiting for over 30 min and asking for it several times. We did leave some cash but it was 1/4 of our bill. They're lucky I even left something.... I was ready to just walk out without leaving a dime. Word to the owner....get some cooks that can actually cook and cook faster and new staff that knows what the hell they're doing.

Tried the tonkatsu and a bunch of the happy hour specials. Overall the food was good but the price point didn't really match -- for me anyways. I've tried several places in and around Berkeley and I have to say that their katsu was the best by far. However, it still doesn't compare to wako back at home and the bottom got soggy as I got about halfway through my meal. Still, the quality of the fish was great and the staff was friendly.
(3)Eric C.
This has been our FAVORITE sushi spot hands down!! Great service! Great selections (Titanic Roll, Fire Cracker Roll, Pink Lady Roll, pretty generous portions of sashimi) Awesome Sake tasting! We even came a little late after lunch was closed and they accommodated my GF her 11 year old son and I as we have become regulars and WOW! Still great service and fresh fish. Only drawback its such a cool restaurant that a better location more enclosed would benefit the ambiance and level of service they provide! We regularly go at least 2 times a week. A must try!!!
(5)Belle Madamoiselle Z.
I've only been here for happy hour so I don't know how the regular food menu compares, but the happy hour menu items are all delicious and a great price! The drinks are good, but doesn't have much alcohol in them and for someone who's a lightweight like me that's just fine. My only criticism is the service is a little uneven and they need to work out the kinks of running a restaurant.

I give this place the benefit of a doubt by saying 3.5+ stars, rounded up to four. I was in the area Friday night and was debating whether to give this place a try (after reading certain reviews that weren't so spectacular), or go back to SF to one if my regular favorites for sushi. In the end, I settled for trying this place. I'm not much into fancy rolls these days, so my review is based in ordering the 12-piece sashimi combo and the negihama roll. The combo were just composed of ordinary fish selections (tuna, albacore, salmon, and yellowtail). It's pricey ($24.95), but at least it was fresh-tasting and enjoyable. I also really enjoyed the negihama roll and the amount of vinegar-taste from the sushi rice. The sake sampler was a plus. I estimate I got over 200 mL worth of sake from three different brands from Sampler A. If I come again I'll definitely go for B which is $1 more and the priciest of the three sampler choices they offer. Service was fine, I didn't experience or notice any of the issues described in some reviews. In fact, the male server that night regularly made rounds to refill customer's tea cups. Also, kudos for the change in decor compared to the ramen restaurants that were here previously.
(4)Ian C.
Some of the server working there are just not paying attention to what they are doing, none the less, owner and chefs take care of us and 2 other wait staff seemed to have improve a bit so they have earn 1.5 star back making it 3.5. Food item is still very fresh and good butI don't know how many time my glass has been empty and wait staff walked by and do nothing. There are definitely room for improvement on the wait staff
(3)Alex S.
Lets start with what I ordered Lychee Soju Fresh Oysters Soba Noodles Chef Roll Beef Tongue Black Pork Sausage The soju was amazing... would go back just for that ... Oysters were fresh and presented well Soba noodles came with some tempura veggies and shrimp... dipping sauce was great. The chef roll was tasty Beef tongue was sliced thinly, served on a hot plate, and brought out sizzling Sausage was good... came with a flavored mayo and onions and carrots Service does need a lil more training. I had to move my finished dish so that they could place my new dish in front of me. Minor things can be polished out. I am a fan and will be going back.
(4)Jamaal B.
Def the freshest sushi this side of the bay, for the RIGHT price! They have the largest selection of sake you can ever wish for....Plus they know how to treat their loyal customers!
(4)mina y.
If you are a true sushi lover with the highest expectations, You would know Sushi Sam's Edomata in San Mateo. But Sushi Sam's is Ugly, dirty and smelly. The wait is at least an hour average. Sushi wise, some say Kamza is even better than Sushi Sam since they hire real Japanese high profile sushi chefs. KAMZA's quality of food is top notch. Service is wonderful, the interior design is Vegas. Your wallet still remain full and happy after the meal. A must try for foodies. But they are getting really busy these days so don't wait too long.
(5)Andrew D.
This place has been open a week, and I have been here twice. Good, elegant ambience in the Pacific East Shopping mall, and the food meets my Japanese approval. ;) There is actual Japanese wait staff working here.
(5)Chelsie Yexin Q.
The place is modern and chic, but we felt it was not ready for business. Untrained staffs made ordering really hard as they do not know the items on the menu and they themselves have to check the menu every time we order something. If you are ordering sushi, be ready to wait for an extra long time... Food portion is small and tastes average. Their pork ribs taste plain and dry; it might be the busy Friday effect. Not to mention that the price is too high for such a place. While we appreciate the apologies from the staffs, we will not be returning to this restaurant.
(2)Kevin W.
Mediocre food and expensive price, with very few services. We have to raise our hands to order and reorder, their staffs seem busy at nothing. The waitresses did not know about items on menu and they have to check our menus every time we say something.
(1)Joshua B.
new place in Pacific east mall. We had the grilled octopus and the Titanic roll. Roll was great, octopus was good but could've used some more flavor. Cold sake and beer was great. Everything else on the menu looks authentic and the people were really nice- definitely be back soon.
(4)Jennifer K.
The sushi is the best in the bay area. Everything they do is a work of art. The chef's are entertaining and make the best combinations. I love the atmosphere and ambiance. The entire staff cares including the owner. This is my second visit and I will be back for more.
(5)Barry W.
I Think this is the best SUSHI Restaurant that I have eaten at. I am 70 and have eaten a great amount of sushi in my life. The fish is extremely fresh and flavorful. The two sushi chefs are long time pros, who turn our gorgeous artful plates , but I eat it all anyway. I go 2-3 times a week. My wife likes the cooked food and the vegetarian rolls. Try their Rainbow, Kamikazi, and Painted Lady rolls or any of the negiri. Fabulous food done beautifully. You Will Love IT.
(5)Brandon H.
I'm really rating this a 3.25 stars. I tried some of the rolls (rainbow, california) and found that overall tasted and looked decent but nowhere near the best I ever had. The chicken terriyaki bento was mediocre. Had a sense that this place is trying way too hard but I'm assuming you have to to stay in business; that said, please don't stray from traditional Japanese cuisine in course of serving fusion style. For me looks can dissuade flavor, didn't think it was necessary to put some sort of plant leaves in my main course. The thing I took most was the decor/interior. Very nice looking lounge of a place enough to attract me maybe for a drink or two. Most of the staff seemed too young too, had the feel they were judging you more than serving you.

We looking for good sushi bar in east bay Finally we found it this restaurant I'm a Japanese very picky sushi We really enjoyed sushi & other dishes good service We love it
(5)Timothy Y.
Since my initial review, I've been back several times. Robert is an attentive server who takes care of you without hovering. I've brought family and friends here and even recommended it to others who are going to be in the area. The sushi has been a hit. The only down note I had was when we wanted to try a particular ice-cream based dessert. We somehow wound up with three of them when we only wanted one with the three scoops of ice cream. Expensive mistake, I must say.

Seated quickly, great servers, and great food! A little pricey but worth it. Crowded parking lot during lunch and dinner times,

I was visiting some friends out in California who told me about this great new sushi place in Richmond. I'm always pretty skeptical when it comes to sushi (I always go back to the same 2 places), but they were so excited about it that I figured I would see what all the fuss was about- and I'm so glad I went! We started with a calamari dish. Now, I'm not always the biggest fan of calamari, because I don't think it has much flavor and tends to be a bit rubbery, but this dish was amazing! It was really flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Then we had a sashimi plate which was fresh and delicious, followed by my absolute favorite: unagi. The unagi was really fresh, still warm (the texture changes if it's been refrigerated), and not overly sauced the way I've seen at a lot of places. The plate came with 5 pieces, and we had to order another because I practically ate all of them by myself! The next time I'm in California, I'll definitely come back.
(5)Kay M.
A great new option for sushi lovers. The staff here are very friendly and helpful. The place is clean and comfortable, right in the heart of the Pacific Mall. The food was tasty and artfully arranged. They encourage you to stay and hang out for as long as you like.
(5)Organtitus A.
Excellent service, fast and friendly. Happy to find another source for okonomiyaki. It's under appetizers and comes cut to share. This was our first visit and we'll be sure to come back.
(5)M R.
The sushi here is soooo fresh. What addition to the Ranch 99 mall. We had ribs and fried shrimp for appetizers, and those ribs were delicious. There was so much meat on them. We had an assortment of fresh fish, monkfish liver (yum yum), and I even tried uni for the first time. All in all I had a great dinner. I can't wait to go back.
(5)Mscee M.
The restaurant atmosphere was pleasant and very modern. Great service, too. I ordered the sashimi salad and sushi & sashimi plate. The fish is not fresh at all. I have ordered this combination at other restaurants so I can tell the difference. Maybe next time I will order hot foods like tempura or something. We'll see.
(2)JJAMZ C.
Ok sushi. Fresh enough, but bit on the pricey side. nothing to write home about. So many other wonderful sushi places in the city or Berkeley. Just convenient if you live close by.
(2)Adalyn J.
The services was exceptionally well consider restaurants in Chinese plaza usually have subpar service. The fish was fresh and sake selection was decent. The food will not blow you away. However, the quality and bang for the buck are good. I came during lunch, even though the restaurant was marked as closed on Yelp.
(4)Sarah B.
I frequent this place and every time it's always been with great service and amazing food. The interior of the restaurant is amazing with very cool lighting effects. It's always a trip to look outside the restaurant from your table and remember you're still in the Pacific East Mall. :P I usually get the Sashimi Combination which is absolutely superb every single time. The quality of the fish are excellent and I'm always left with wishing it came with more pieces, but it definitely helps me to take my time and savor each bite. :) The tonkatsu is also very delicious. Overall, yes. I do recommend this place. Keep in mind it's a bit on the expensive side, but the quality of the food alone is worth the trip.
(5)Billy L.
So after not eating a single thing all day this place looked amazing when I seen it on yelp so I decided I'll come here and give it a try ...worst idea ever by Tuesday morning I was vomiting and having the worst diarrhea of my life today is thanks giving and I'm not able to spend it with my family because I'm 100% sure this place gave me food poising . How would I go and say that about this place ? The only thing I ate all day was the food I ordered to go from this place . Never coming back here again... Fuck this place... Please come here if you want to shit water for the next two weeks
(1)Xinwei L.
Despite the location (in the same strip mall building as Ranch 99) it's actually a cool restaurant. It has a hip bar, VERY clean (unlike some other restaurants nearby), and the service is superb. We ordered some happy hour appetizers, some sushi rolls, and a bowl of ramen. Everything is excellent! We will definitely come back again!
(5)Karen H.
Been wanting to try this place for some time, the decor and music seemed inviting. The service was a little ... Off... We ordered tea and they brought the teacups filled with tea, my husband was put off - they don't leave you a tea pot? Well, then they would come back every few minutes to ask if we wanted a refill... Very disruptive. The food we ordered was beautifully presented but expensive for what we got. I got some sushi rolls - not rolled tight like another reviewer mentioned, made a mess, my husbands teriyaki chicken was quite unexciting. Taste wise, it was just ok, nothing to write home about. Once the food came, the waitstaff, not just our waiter, would ask us how is everything when they walked by. Too much! Must be a reaction to past yelp reviews! For the money I think we will stick with our regular japanese place.

SPECTACULAR EXPERIENCE OF SUMPTUOUS, MOUTH-WATERING DELIGHTS ... ONE, AFTER ANOTHER !! KAMZA SUSHI PALACE in Pacific East Mall in Richmond has a modern flare, plenty of seating, romantically soothing lighting behind the bar area, a polished-choice of velvety sake AND ABSOLUTELY THE FRESHEST FOOD I have had the pleasure of experiencing ... one delicious bite after another. I've been an avid sushi and sashimi fan for at least 25 years. Each restaurant has its specialties but, KAMZA offers one of the largest menu selections I've ever seen ... all in one place. Our party of 5 each made their choices; portions were generous, with thick slices of each fish, served with care and pride. The PURITY of each bite tempted all of us to make "just one more" choice from the menu. Each plate arrived quickly and was always fresh, delicious and beautifully served. COOKED meals are offered as well. Of course, the teriyaki chicken is offered, but also succulent braised pork, which falls off of the bone with one soft bite AND also steamed salmon head ... all moist, voluptuously tender, and melt in your mouth delectable ... The sounds around our table were all complimentary with "ahhhs", "ummmms" and "this is soooo good!!!", exclaimed by everyone in our party. This was a luscious, memorable evening where we ALL AGREED that KAMZA is our first choice of sushi restaurants in the entire Bay Area. We will be back and proudly bring our friends too. Oh, try to save a little room for the special sesame ice cream ... it tops off the entire meal with its nutty, light sesame flavor and refreshing aroma. Another "ahhhh" experience! This restaurant is a definite winner !! Guaranteed !!!

I've been here twice now and it's only been open for a week and a half I think. The food here is amazing. The quality really surprised me the first time I went. The chefs here really know their stuff and you can tell they passionate about what they do. I recommend sitting at the sushi bar, the chefs are really chill guys and treat you well.
(5)Adriana F.
Love this place! Service was great, and the food is amazing! Try the Titanic roll ! Also had the ribs.. I give this place a BIG TWO THUMBS UP
(5)Sherie' B.
Some of these peoples reviews are crazy! I hear complaining about the price but if you look at the reviews the over riding theme is how fresh the fish is. That's what you are paying for people! Fresh fish is not cheap and a majority of sushi places don't carry this grade of quality.I guess if you just order a roll from the menu you can't really appreciate the quality of the fish as much. I've enjoyed the talents of these sushi Chiefs for almost 20 years(other establishments) and there are no other places I have found that have the quality and willingness to create special dishes for customers. If you would like to experience this sit at the bar and talk to the Chiefs. Let them know what you like and have them make you something off the menu. The surounding is what it is but these guys bring class with them so hopefully the other places can step it up too.
(5)Alan P.
Food quality: 3 Service: 2 The quality of the food is just a OK. Someone from my group ordered a prawn tampura soba. The two prawns are perhaps the smallest I have seen for prawn tempura. Service was not so good; maybe the waitress was new. There were seven in our party. The waitress just left the three bowls of miso soup at one end of the table. When the main dishes came, she was about to leave them at the end of the table again until someone in our group signaled that she had ordered that bowl of hot udon. The waitress then left the check before everyone had finished.
(3)John K.
Love this place! I come here every Friday with my girlfriend and the food and service is always top notch and consistent. Definitely recommended!
(5)L H.
Went for lunch and was underwhelmed by our experience with their service and quality overall. We forgot to order drinks and the waitress didn't ask. Had to ask for water refills at end of meal. Ordered cucumber roll and got a roll that contained coriander, plum and cucumber. Ordered tobiko and was served masago. He stated here's your masago, and when I said that we ordered tobiko, he said, oh it is tobiko. I know the difference but let that one go. They put plum flavor seaweed sprinkle on their rice that comes in combo boxes. Caterpillar roll had shells from the tempura shrimp in it. Miso soup had one cube of tofu in it, it arrived after sushi, and yet they forgot to put in our entree orders so half our party had to wait for rest of the group to eat which was a bad call since I had to send my meal back, and companion's chicken teriyaki was fatty and slightly undercooked. One star because they were nice enough to remove my tekka don from our tab. It contained large pieces of "white" tuna sliced incorrectly and full of gristly membrane, and there were four super thin slices of red tuna. Rest of bowl contained warm unseasoned rice, seaweed, salmon roe, mushrooms, ginger and pickled cucumber.

Was driving home to Marin after a long weekend in LA and stopped in for a quick bite. Was a little surprised to see a little bit of LA in Richmond. Decided to give it a try and we were blown away. Sat at the sushi bar, chef Robert kept surprising us with amazing treats, and the owner Terry made sure to stop by and took the time to get to know us. Sushi is amazing, sake selection is bountiful and glad to have found a new favourite spot. Highly recommended!
(5)T. W.
Came cruising through for the Ranch 99 grocery pick up on a random evening because you know I hate the crowds, and saw this new spot to eat! Kamza decor is very modern and the bar is beautiful - showcasing the sake offering! The menu has diverse offerings and we will be back to try some of the other dishes. For our first time, we picked tako yaki (SO GOOD!), salmon skin salad, shrimp tempura roll, alaska roll and the zig zag roll. The price point is very fair for the beautiful presentation and portion sizes. We got out of there in under $50 and were both full. The seasoning on the rice was a little off, but getting sushi rice on point is no easy feat. The zig zag roll (deep fried soft shell crab) - with Kamza special sauce - is REALLY good. Service was great this evening - multiple servers checked on us, cleared our full table of the empties, and the owner came to check on us and make sure we enjoyed our experience.
(4)Myra K.
Was walking by on my way to Ranch and saw that the old ramen place re-opened as a sushi and sake bar. The sign outside says there's 40 types but I didn't try any. The decor is really modern and sleek. Different from the rest of the stores in the mall. The food was average but the service was good. It took me too long to finish my review, I forgot the items that I ordered. I do remember that most of the sushi were cooked rolls and basic nigiri. I'll probably come back if I wanted a donburi or udon.
(3)Lan P.
The food is very good. They have some specials that you can't find anywhere else. The price is decent, I usually spend about $20 each time I come. That's really good price for a fancy Sushi restaurant. In addition, the service is excellent. Highly recommend this place!!!
(4)James Y.
Much much better than the previous ones. Should be rated one of the best in east bay.
(5)Danny M.
Very average food and overpriced ($118 just me and my gf)...but the main problem was that we had to wait 50 min (after I placed my order with the waitress) for my first dish to come, and it was the WRONG ORDER.... There was a mix up in the kitchen, wasnt the waitress' fault, so I had to wait another 10 min for my food to finally to START to come....(like 50 min wasnt enough) even though I ordered a donburi which came with a miso soup, I didnt understand how hard it was to get us AT LEAST the soup first... I really dont understand how this owner had the guts to open for business because I remembered that I looked around after sitting down for at least 30 min, 80% of the tables had no food on them, and we came in last... Very bad management and obviously was not ready to open for business. Scales and bones in my hamachi sashimi. Hamachi kama WAY over cooked. All the other things were average, nothing special. Never coming back EVEN if our food came on time and EVEN if the staff were at least trained, because with quality like this and this price range I would rather go somewhere else. Waited almost an hour after I placed the order, not that I'm a greedy person, but nothing was comped, as we were promised some japanese green beans on the house after our 30 min wait which never came and I didnt bother to ask. There was not even a bowl of ice cream offered to us which I knew was free because the table next to us also complained about how slow the food came and they were offered the dessert. Very poor management skills. If this restaurant wasnt ready to open then dont open for business and if you do open the doors then dont do a half ass job, or cut the number of tables in half until the kitchen starts to run smoothly. Very greedy move by the owner to open for business and seat all these customers down...only to have us all wait this long for our food?????????? Theres no heart in this owner its all greed; he doesnt care about the customers he just wants the money in your wallets....or else he would NOT have opened for business with all the staffs (front and back) so poorly trained.
(1)Junior M.
Very nice place with the best Japanese food I ever ate. Welcoming environment and friendly staff! Good quality without being snob. I loved the udon and the gyoza. Will definitely repeat!
(5)Cody Y.
My friend told me about a famous Japanese Chef Naoyaki Shiraishi at KAMZA Sushi Palace. I couldn't pronouns his name but they all call him Nao San. My friend is his follower from LA to SF for high quality Japanese food. I went to KAMZA with a few friends for dinner and we were amazed with the quality of food, service and ambiance. If you want to taste the quality of Japanese food, you must also order cooked items to taste the uses of ingredients creating the pleasant flavors. The design is a show stopper. Every person passes by have to stop and look. I am not sure how they are able to maintain this quality and charged so little for their service. This is now one of our favorite restaurant in the bay area. City of Richmond got really lucky.
(5)Nikka L.
I would really want to rate this higher cause the food was actually not bad. But then I know its new but we ordered and waited for so long almost an hour to get our entire food. We actually got the sushi really quickly maybe 5 minutes after we ordered but we got everything else after a good 45 minutes and I can only tell the time since I sent a photo message to my fiance about the food but the wait was just really long. Also we did not get our appetizer that we ordered (good thing I saw and they removed it after) and had to cancel a to-go order just because it might take another 45 minutes before we can get it. I might give it another try but Ill have to wait maybe a couple more months.. And plus I do not want to get a lecture around why the food took too long because they have a good Japanese kitchen and the food and process to make it really takes that long and they have all great equipment and even compared to other Japanese restaurants.. All I was thinking at that time though was well why did the other tables after us got their food first and one of the orders was an udon.. 45 mins?? hmmmm maybe not. My appetite was pretty much gone when I got my food.. what a waste.

Deff one of the best place to eat sushi. The service was great! One of my new favorites! Will be back :)

Kamza Sushi is a delight! Service is excellent and the quality of the sushi is top notch! Happy Hour from 4:30-6:30pm is amazing.... beer, saki and a wonderful array of sushi at great prices! The regular menu is extensive and the staff are happy to do special requests. The sushi is very fresh and beautifully presented... we were so impressed by the entire experience! If you love sake... this is the place for you... an entire menu dedicated to fantastic sake to please every palette! So happy to have found this gem and would encourage anyone who loves sushi to make sure that you visit this establishment soon and give it a try! We will be back on a weekly basis!

The presentation of the sushi is definitely picture worthy but most importantly the taste and quality is pretty spot on. It is pricey but that is to be expected with sushi. For 2 people I spend over $60 every time. Servers are friendly but they should have designated tables for each server. Three different servers asked us if we were doing ok all within minutes of each other which is kind of annoying. But hey, better a lot of attention than no attention at all. One thing that was kind of off putting was when I overhead one of the servers training another server. The employee said to only fill the miso soup halfway in the bowl so that it doesn't spill when you are walking. No wonder my miso soup took only 3 sips to finish, there was hardly anything in the bowl. Also, when you order tea they don't give you a full cup as well.

I was invited by a good friend to meet at Kamza Sushi Palace for diner last night. I have not been there before and was surpised by the sleek and modern ambience. The bar backlit with changing LED was quite moody though. We sat at the bar and started with the grilled pork ribs and squid. The service was friendly and efficient and the food arrived within 10 minutes and both were simply delicious. The pork ribs were tender and savory, the dish could have been a little hotter. The grilled squid, served on a hot iron plate, arrived at the bar sizzling, was succulent and savory, tender, slightly crunchy, and the best I have had, scrumptious. Next up, we followed with a sashimi combination plate of Chef's Selection. The sashimi plate was beautifully arranged and presented by the chef, the presentation was only surpassed by the fresh, distinct, delicately firm texture and flavor of each type of sashimi. Hotate, Ankimo, Hamachi, Maguro, Saba, Sake, Ika, etc., all were distinct and wonderful. I have often had sashimi where the various types of fishes all tasted somewhat similar, not here. I had not considered myself to be huge fan of Uni and I was delighted that I tried. The flavor is nuanced and slightly nutty as opposed to what I remebered; being salty and heavy. Still not quite satiated after polishing off the sashimi plate, we ordered Botanebi and Unagi. The Botenebi was simply amazing. The deep fried head was crispy, hot and delectable. The Unagi, while delicous and moist, was not quite as hot and crispy as I would have preferred. It is a difficult thing since the plate had to go from kitchen to bar. I do recalled having Unagi served with the eel sizzling and crispy on the outside and sweet and tender at first bite. Then again, I have only had that couple of times, once in LA. I was quite satisfied at this point but could not pass on the sesame ice cream. It was delicious with a nice balance of clean sesame flavors and creaminess. It was NOT too sweet nor too heavy and not to miss. As far as I can tell, this is one of the best Sushi Restaurants, from the standpoint of the quality of the dishes, in the bay area.

Service was great. Food was pretty good too. Ribs order was amazing and enjoyed with yuzu soju....heaven!

Wow! Goodbye Happy Sashimi - hello Kamza! Beautiful place, clean atmosphere and food is art and delish! Robert the sushi chef is so attentive and quick, did I mention funny too ! Albert was also very attentive, I appreciate good customer service and fine food. It may appear to be more expensive but servings are larger than other places, so really not. A trip to 7 stars, a massage, and sushi is a perfect date even if you are alone.

Finally a REALLY OUTSTANDING sushi and Japanese food restaurant has come to the Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito area! Kamza, located in the Pacific East Mall, is just wonderful in every way. I am not a big raw fish fan but I had a salmon teriyaki dinner to die for, along with a side of the best California rolls I've had in years. The sushi chefs in this place are world class. My husband loved the sushi and almost could not stop ordering the various rolls being offered. The decor is lovely and the service was excellent, very welcoming and accommodating. But the food is really the centerpiece. I can see that this will become one of our regular haunts. I'm dreaming of our next meal there already!

Came here on a wednesday night with my husband. Ordered the sake donburi bowl, agedashi tofu, okonomiyaki, spicy aburi albacore, sake and saba nigiri. Was fairly disappointed in the todu as they used some low quality fried, dry, firm chinese tofu instead of the soft tofu. It was cut in smaller pieces so I suspect it really was the fried tofu from 99 ranch. The sake and nigiri were b- quality ( reasonably priced, but not what i would expect for that price). The sake and roe donburi was fairly weak(small portion and 5 thin slices of sake). The pickled carrot had a strong smell to it so we didnt eat it. Okonomiyaki was alright, average and not bad. The cherry tomato accompanying the aburi albacore also had that same weird smell to it so we didnt eat that either ( only ate the albacore). Honestly, I really wanted to like this place. We had seen it a few times and made it a point to check it out. Unfortunately, the quality and taste were lacking. I would say one star for food and an extra half star if i could because the staff were friendly (though we did wait a very long time for our bill....). Also, the yelp ad for checkin and happy hour are NOT valid. So dont go there thinking to do happy hr or check-in..... Yea, we were disappointed. $70+ is what we would pay for much better quality food. :(

After one of my friends gave this place a negative review, I was really hesitant to try it out. But my family and I did, since good sushi places are hard to come by in Pinole/Hercules/Richmond area. So glad we gave it a shot. The space is really nice for being in an Asian grocery store complex but they did a good job remodeling and decorating. The service has always been on point. We've experienced three different servers and all of them were willing to refill our drinks, bring us our check or grab us takeout containers, no matter who took our initial order. The food is good quality and comparative in prices to other sushi places we normally dine. One item I constantly look for is takoyaki. And I'd order theirs every single time. They're super tasty and you have to eat them while they're really hot (but please be careful not to burn your mouth). There's also the pork ribs. Super flavorful and tender, but it is a small serving for its price (4 pieces for @$10). They also have their version of Hawaiian poki, which was light in flavor and spice for my taste. The salmon teriyaki and nabeyaki udon are my kids' favorite items too. In terms of the sushi rolls, they were decent to good. I wasn't overly impressed but I don't think they're the best things on the menu. We tried the Godzilla, Caterpillar and Kamza rolls. I definitely recommend coming during their happy hour (M, W & Th 4:30-6:30). You get small plate versions of some of the dishes for $5-8. It's a nice way to try out a variety of their food. Overall, I'm glad a good quality Japanese restaurant is in the complex, and I hope it sticks around much, much longer than the previous tenants in that space.

After trying other sushi places in the area, IDK why I haven't come back to Kamza and I've regretted it every single time. We ordered a bunch of nigiris, tako yaki and sashimi salad. Everything was good to be honest. The fish was fresh and LOVE that they have sake toro! The ikura was also fresh (a tad bit salty with a hint of fishiness just like it's suppose to be). I was scared to order the uni but the uni was DELICIOUS. MELT IN YOUR MOUTH DELICIOUS. So sweet, so buttery with no fishiness at all. No complaints besides the fact that I wanted to order more uni but they ran out. I also had a glass of Asahi and I believe they have it on TAP, if I can remember correctly. Jackpot! TAP is always better than Bottled. You get what you paid for. Quality = $$$. Left a happy customer. Knocked off a star because service was a tad bit slow even though the place was not too busy.

WOW! The fatty hamachi. The fatty salmon. The... I think it was called something like "flaming dragon roll?" I just asked one of the chefs to make me something awesome, and they delivered. Tender, good quality fish, beautifully presented, and everyone was really nice, really friendly and great to talk to. I came in here bummed out because I have to put my kitty down, and left feeling so much better. Thanks guys! I've found a new haunt for sure. Best sushi I've had in Richmond in a long time. Possibly ever. And also, OSU!

Best ribs I have ever had at a Japanese restaurant, great tasting gyoza, and good tempura. ...

Stopped by here today for a little sushi lunchtime action since I was in the neighborhood. Tried to google the restaurant's name to get their opening time, and for some reason I kept typing in Kazma. Who the hell is Kazma? Kazma Kramer? Cosmo Kramer's sister? Giddy-yaap. I've been coming to the Pacific East mall next to the freeway for quite some time now. Lots of dining options, a huge Ranch 99 asian grocery store, a few kitchy hole in the wall places for boba pearl tea, authentic Thai groceries, and even a a corner where you can learn how to be a casino dealer. I first saw Kamza when they were still working on the restaurant before it was completed about a year ago. Restaurant-wise, pacific east mall has been a bit lacking. A sad Korean place, a very average Pho joint, a few tired dim sum places. Kamza is a welcomed addition to dining choices at the PE mall. The space is cozy (smallish), but nicely done and fairly modern for a sushi place. Lots of colored LED lighting at the large bar that takes up an entire wall. Tasteful bamboo screens separate the tables from one another. Thick, leather bound menus, clean stark walls with one feature wall with various poster sized shots of everyday life in Japan. I was impressed. Our party selected a few items from the lunch menu. We ordered a few sushi selections and a bento lunch special. Our food arrived shortly after placing the order, and we were all pleased by the appearance. The sushi and sashimi looked fresh and inviting. The salmon and chicken teriyaki was large portion-wise, and again, very fresh and appetizing to the eye. The individual sushi selections were of medium size. Price-wise, my $15 sushi/sashimi combination was good sized. I've paid $20-25 for a sushi/sashimi selection at other places, and the sizes of each piece were larger. I suppose the price to size ratio was okay. Overall, the sushi and sashimi was good. Very fresh and flavorful, and the price was good considering what I received. My friend's chicken and salmon bento was just was good. The salmon was fresh, flaky and perfectly cooked. 4 outta 5 stars from me. Kamza is a good solid bet as far as sushi places are concerned. My only gripes for Kamza would be that their hot green tea was bitter and kinda strange tasting. Also, the rice served with my meal was of the regular white variety. I would have loved to have some of their sticky tender sushi rice instead. * bonus tip - head across the mall to the Ranch 99 side, and stock up on majorly yummy pastries and other Asian bakery goodies at the Sheng Kee bakery. As Kazma Kramer might say, "Hoochie Mama!"

Came by here looking for the Japanese restaurant that used to be here and I was shocked to learn it had closed awhile back. Kamza is the new spot, so still in the mood for Japanese a friend and I decided to give it a go after a quick look at the menu. The place is very clean and our waitress was fantastic. I ordered a Kamza Box which is basically a bento box with chicken teriyaki, rice, salad and mixed tempura. Before the main course we got some delicious miso soup as well. The food was very good I will say the only thing I didn't like was the salad. Overall, good service and food for not that bad of a price I will definitely come down here again!

Finished a 3 hour session of karaoke with friends and we were craving sushi! One of my friends comes here all the time, so we agreed to come here again. Service was good. Waitress was attentive and accommodating. Food: Split the Titantic and Kamza roll - really good and delicious Split spicy nacho - not really any spice at all, so was kind of disappointed I had the salmon ikura don buri - gotta say, some of the best tasting rice I have ever had. Don't know what they did, but it was close to rice I've had in Japan which is by far the best. Salmon was great and fresh and went well with the rice. I absolutely devoured my don buri bowl. Also, got the natto thinking it would just be natto on rice to try it for once (heard interesting things about it...). Apparently it's essentially a natto maki roll. Gotta say, not a fan of natto. Wasn't terrible, but I felt the rice was masking some of the stronger flavors. Really great food overall, despite some of the disappointments. I've heard really good things about the happy hour, so I plan to try that eventually as well.

The location of this restaurant inside the mall is constantly changing, and I've been through it all. Now a sushi restaurant, it serves creative rolls and sashimi made with fresh fish. I approve! I really hope it's here to stay, because I can't deal with all these changes :/

Great Happy Hour! The poke was fantastic and we loved all the hand rolls. Servers were extremely friendly and attentive. $2.50 draft beers during happy hour so hard to say no to that!

Very impressed with the food here , 'cause didn't expect too much, having come for dinner. Sake Kama was very good. In the Asian mall! Would come back and sample more!

Kamza Sushi Palace had a standing sign offering spring roll, 4 pieces (4.95) Kamza is brightly lit. one could see no customers at all inside during the late lunch hour. menu: usual maki, nigiri, noodles, appetitzers, ramen, donburi, etc. eats: spring rolls, 4 pieces (4.95): -got four pieces lightly fried, inside tasted like "fun" the kind in chow fun, interesting taste -got a spicy dip and a french dressing type dip. -tasty, entree mislabeled, not worth 4.95 2.5 stars food notes: -peruvian eatery moving into the hot pot place...

Very Fresh Sashimi and Rolls are Yummmmy! Very friendly service always. Price is neither cheap nor expensive.

This is a hidden little gem! The owner has put a lot of effort into this place and is there almost all the time to greet patrons. The sushi chefs are Japanese as well as the head chef in the kitchen from what I'm told. Excellent quality in fish and meat used, very clean aesthetic and courteous wait staff. The menu combines traditional favorites with some fusion blends as well as some exotic selections. Don't let the mall environment fool you, this is a top notch spot that will not disappoint.

This is an awkward spot for an "upscale" Japanese restaurant. I put the quotation marks because I don't really believe it's a upscale restaurant, but I think they want you to believe it's a upscale restaurant. Service: The service was decent. The waitress was attentive and professional. She was very quick with the ordering, refills, check, etc... But the thing that lacks in her service is friendliness and a smile. Food: Zig Zag Roll - This roll was as weird as the location of this restaurant. They mixed sauce and fried crab in a roll, wrapped it, cut it, and served it. Now nothing may seem wrong with that protocol, but the sauce had already soften the crunch of the fried crab. Now we all know from cooking 101 not to drench anything meant to be crunchy with sauce! And the presentation was just horrid. It honestly looked like regurgitation wrapped up in rice. With that said, it tasted decent. I would definitely have tasted better if the sauce hadn't already turn the batter into mush. Udon - The udon noodles itself were slightly overcooked. But the rest of the soup had harmony. The vegetables and seasonings were delightful on my taste buds. Most places can't really do an udon soup right, but this place comes really close. Cook the noodles 1 minutes less and this dish would have been perfect. Overall: A good place, but based on the price versus quality comparison, I wouldn't be coming back here again.

I haven't tried anything else here besides their California Rolls... & their California Rolls alone deserve 5 stars. Blahblahblah, anyway... Their Cali Rolls are 8Pcs for $5.50. EIGHT PIECES FOR FIVE DOLLARS AND FIFTY CENTS! Look how big each piece is...

The fish is amazingly fresh and the chef is really devoted to present all dishes pretty Come here for lunch again~ still a wonderful experience! U can never go wrong with their sashimi. the spider roll is yummy too. Make sure u order some sesame ice cream for a lovely ending!

Had dinner here today, WAY overhyped. The rolls here are mediocre, and the service here is beyond lacking (it wasn't very busy). I was expecting pretty decent food and service as the place is new and the reviews are good. BUT: I had to get the menu myself, and after sitting for several minutes of waiting for them. We weren't greeted until we actually walked in, unlike many of the customers we observed while we were dining. (Which was hard to ignore since we were seated right there in the doorway, not too bad but they had perfectly open table in the back that would suit my family - it was later given to another family with the same number of people as us. And I guess having people walking by and curious about the new place staring isn't too bad. *Cough* unless you're me and don't eat very ladylike. I had to ask for the miso soup (that came with one of our dinner specials) that they forgot. No one checked in with us until we were nearly done with our meal. We left with a bill that could have fed our family of 5 at Tomi and unsatisfied stomachs. I shopped my disappointment away at Sheng Kee afterwards.

Love this place, I come here about 3 times a week. The presentation of their plates have a sophisticated twist that draws attention, good portions, super fresh and clean. I'm a regular for a good reason.

The seating was pretty quick, since there were not that many people in the restaurant. (We came around 12:30) and the servers were pretty nice. The atmosphere is really clean and pretty. The seating arrangements are a little crammed but the lounge chairs are comfortable. However, the food service is pretty slow and there were only a few selections of sushi.... Shouldn't really be called a sushi bar then right? After trying out the food, the sushi rolls were good, fresh fish. However the don-buri (Katsu don) was very salty and on average.

This is only an update. We came here for early dinner today and Ben greeted us right away, a very nice guy. We love our food the grilled beef tongue, salmon skin salad and Hamachi kama. The beef tongue is a little gummy but so tasty i cannot resist it. The Salad is balance in texture and dressing and the Hamachi kama is super yummy you can tell it's fresh. Their bathroom is one of the cleanest bathrooms i had been.Very good experience today.

What an upscale sushi restaurant !!! Beautiful decor, the bar section has lighting that will change different colors! I have been here so many times since it's opening! The food quality is always consistent and all sashimi are very fresh. Today, I witnessed a super Japanese sashimi feast for a birthday party. A pre-ordered menu of all kinds exotic fresh seafood from all kinds of fish to lobster, abalone, and oyster shoot. It's my favorite Japanese restaurant !!!

Kamza has been open for 3 weeks now. I came to eat after a massage here at the mall and, looking for something to eat, I did a search on yelp for this place. I saw all the positive reviews after being newly opened so I decided to give it a try. Kamza did not disappoint! The owner, Terry was very personable, actively checked in with his guests to make sure they were enjoying their dining experience. He invited me into the kitchen to show me how they were preparing sushi for a party of 11. It was an amazing dish, full of various things. Incredible to look at. I should have taken a picture of it. I did however take pictures of what I ordered. Everything was great! Ambience is good for a sushi restaurant. I sat at the bar and had Robert serve me. He was attentive and sociable. He made my order feel personal by adding a bit extra of what I said I liked. The whole dinner was great. Try kamza for yourself and see :)

I came here a few days ago for dinner and overheard an employee being humiliated in front of other customers. It became a very stressful dinner and I almost had to walk out. The manager/owner (I hope he was not because it was atrocious behavior) was reprimanding an employee for making a minor mistake. On the other hand, the food was descent and the staff seemed pleasant. But, this incident left a bad taste in my mouth. I hope the upper management learns to treat their employees with a little more respect.

Kind of a weird spot. It looks super modern, especially with their flashy neon bright light back wall, but it's located in the most color deprived mall ever. Seriously, it does not fit it's environment. But hey, it stands out, and that's one of the reasons I wanted to try Kamza out so much. Got seated pretty quickly, and I decided on their chirashi bowl. First thought was, "wow why is this chirashi bowl $5 more expensive than other places?" I decided to give it a chance anyways, and I was met with a bowl of random. Sure, there was the usual slices of salmon and tuna, but that's about it concerning fish. The roe was a little too big for me. Reminded me more of the bait I'd use while fishing than eating in a bowl of sushi. There was kind of randomly a perilla leaf, some pickled mushrooms, thinly sliced cucumbers, a spoonful of seaweed salad, and this random pickled green grass. It seemed like there were more embellishments and flourishes than there was actual food. I mean, sure the fish that was there was fresh and tasty, but there was more veggies than fish. I was especially disappointed in the fact that I could have driven a few blocks down the road and paid less for both more food and better taste at Taki Sushi. Service was pretty good actually, which was a plus and is maybe the only reason why they're getting more than a single star from me. To the tall white girl working here whose name escapes me, thank you for making random chit chat with me about being "100% sure you're done with your meal because you hate it when servers take your food away when you're still eating". Anyways, pass on this spot for me. Much better options for food that are just a short trip away.
(2)Beck S.
Bar alone is an eye catcher when you walk in. Fresh sushi, toro salmon, uni, butter tuna..can you say yumz. price is moderate. If you come during happy hour 4:30-6PM they have a cute kitchen menu. Try the bomb shrimp 5.00 pretty good. However, if you get a chance to sit at the bar, have a chat and smile with the sushi chefs. Cool guys brought in from Hawaii. They will accommodate special requests too, just ask nicely. Extensive sake list...Need to try all.
(3)Rhys L.
Top notch sushi. Friendly staff. Reasonably priced for the quality. Those complaining about the price obviously can't tell the difference between this, exceptionally high quality food and substandard suburban sushi. Since I moved to the area from Marin, I'd been settling for the latter because it was cheaper and closer than a "real" sushi place. Once my favorite food, my desire for sushi was waning. Until I recently found Kamza. Now I remember why I love sushi. Yes it costs more than pedestrian sushi joints like Tachikawa or Happy Sashimi or the crap you pick up at the grocery store. But compare this to Kirala in Berkeley or a few of the great places in SF or San Jose and it's a bargain. Don't be deterred by it being in a mall or calling themselves a "sushi palace" (both of which are enough to make most sushi aficionados run). I don't even mind that I know more about the menu than most of the waitstaff. The chef knows it and it arrives perfectly on my plate. And the sake selection is vast. Probably the biggest selection I have seen outside a proper sake bar. This is truly a sushi destination. Not a casual mall bite.
