Food is so legit it made me dance. I had the crispy, juicy chicken, potato salad, corn and delish mac & cheese. Only down side was the corn bread :/

The Turkey chops were a first for me but definitely will not be a last... Delicious...!... Yams, and Butter corn eere seasoned just right. Other clientele can be undesirable for dining in, but to go is highly recommended.

My bf and I went here yesterday to try it out. My bf s from the south and is very critical of soul food.. An old college friend recommended this place to me over Day Day's and Cassie Kitchen... Customer Service-the young lady who assisted us was very hospitable. She was knowledgeable about the menu and Di not rush me to make a decision on my order. Menu selection: I was shocked to see chitterlings on the menu... it was a very nice variety and each entrée is served with 3 sides.... I had ordered the fried chicken wings with mashed potatoes and gravy, greens, and green beans. My bf had ordered the fried catfish, macaroni and cheese, greens, and sweet potatoes. The wings and fish were fried nicely. I liked how the chicken was not loaded with salt. The fish was good as well just needed a little seasoning for added flavor. The sweet potatoes were tasty but a little on the sweet side. The greens were yummy and so were the mashed potatoes. The green beans were good too. The only thing we didn't care for was the macaroni and cheese.... just loved my tropical punch Kool aide too! I gave our waitress a hefty tip just because she gave us great service and she was very nice.. I have already recommended this place to my friends.

When I tell you this is the best breakfast in the world! I literally called the Chef from the back to tip her... If you're ever in the I.E. This place is a must go...

I found this place on yelp! As a southerner I am always in search of great flavors of home while I travel. This place, while located next to a truck stop and has a very generic appearance, had fantastic food!! The atmosphere is a plain jane, but the food is well worth the adventure. The sweet tea was amazing. The service was fast and friendly!!

WoW, I'm glad I ran across this lil Gem online. I'm new to the IE. Came from LA and love my soul food. This place run neck to neck to the places I'm use to in LA. The service was great and the cat fish and red beans was excellent! I will be back to try a different dish.

I eat here once a month and everything is always good..anyone from LA knows that as soon as you taste the peach cobbler its indeed part of the M&M's family..its not all pretty on the outside but who cares as long as the food is good and the place is clean

This place was really average to me. The service was ok. They weren't rude nor friendly. We ordered takeout and it took 30 min or more and it was only 2 fried chicken lunches. The chicken was bland to me. I felt like it needed more seasoning. I also had cornbread, greens, macaroni and cheese, and green beans. I wasn't thrilled about any of it. If I had to pick what my favorite food there, I'd have to say the greens, which wasn't that great. I won't be going back there. They didn't impress me at all.

Stopped in for lunch on a Friday. This place needs a major cleaning. It smelled bad. Walked in and walked right back out

This was 2nd time going to this restaurant. The first time, the food was really good. I had red beans and rice, cabbage and red snapper. The food was superb. The BAD: - It took 40 minutes for the food to come out. The waitress apologized and took the dessert off the bill. I was hooked I could come back again. My daughter and I decided to go again. You seat yourself. We immediately got a booth. A young man came over and took our order for drinks right away. Then we proceeded to WAIT for over 10 minutes for someone to take our order. It was not that busy. I have read the other reviews and I agree the people that work there are not rude, but they are not that much into customer service either. My daughter had to signal the guy who brought the drinks over that we wanted to order. Here is the part that makes me sad and makes me wish I had just walked out. A waitress started to make her way toward us. A young woman with a scarf on her head working the counter, called the other waitress back. Whatever she said, the woman never came over. Then another young woman started to come towards us, and this same scarf wearing woman tried to call this girl back. Now I don't know what it was about us that turned her off, but it was very unprofessional. Thank God the 2nd waitress looked at this scarf wearing woman and walked on over to us. She was very friendly, very professional. I heard scarf woman say to her, "make sure you don't get a credit card from them, get cash." The 2nd waitress just scowled at her. Well being a business owner, that didn't bother me at all. I wouldn't want scarf woman handling my credit card, but back to the food. The FOOD- red beans and rice - SALTY....cabbage - ok - boring. - SHRIMP- SALTY. Again, I'm thinking I should have just walked out of this place..... First we were ignored, and then we were served the worst food ever. We went on a Saturday at around 6:30, so maybe this was not the regular cook. Lorraine was the only saving quality of this place. Lorraine was the 2nd waitress. Yes, I left a nice tip for Lorraine, for having class, and for being professional, where scarp woman was missing it. The scarf woman definitely had some self esteem issues going on. Get rid of the weekend cook..... OR just go on the weekdays or earlier in the day for better food.

I've never tried oxtail, but I heard they were pretty good here so I decided to try them... I was scared at first, but I'm glad I took the risk they were great! My mother had the chitlins and really liked them as well, we waited kind of late to order so she didn't get a really big portion, but she was compensated. Once again another good experience

I live in Fontana and the majority of the restaurants are Mexican Food. Definitely did not want that again. I did not want to drive to Rancho Cucamonga or Ontario for a decent restaurant. I went on yelp to see if there was something different to choose from. Fortunately, I decided to enter Rialto as part of the search. I am glad I did. It was just what I was in the mood for. Food for the Soul. The location in Rialto is in a very old section on Valley Blvd not much to look at from the outside. The interior ambiance as far as decor leaves a lot to be improved. But as saying goes you can't tell a book by its cover. As it turned out the service was quick, we were given our menus immediately and asked if we wanted something to drink. The menu was what you would expect from Southern Food. So many choices. But the prove would be in the taste. They started us off with the most delicious corn muffins. Raves. the butter was not ice cold so it just melted into the rolls. My husband chose Smothered Beef, blackeye peas, collard greens, and yams. He raved about the blackeyed peas, and although typically they are not my favorite bean I have to admit the taste was superb and I probably will order them the next time. I ordered the fried chicken that was freshly made. The breading was marvelously flavorful and the chicken moist. The sides I chose was similar to my husbands. I had the greens, yams, and cabbage. All were extremely tasty. I use to travel in the south as a young person for work and had the opportunity to eat the majority of my meals in restaurants. I can not remember the greens being this tasty. I remember having to use loads of vinegar on them to make them palatable. Nothing had to be added to these. They were delicious. My husband could not resist the Sweet Potato Pie. Oh, My this was really good pie, maybe a some whipped cream would have put it over the top. They did not skimp on the portions so there were lots to take home. All the staff and cooks are family. The restaurant is named after our waitress grandmother. Would I go again. Absolutely. Can't wait to try something different for entree. Prices were reasonable.

The food here is truly amazing! If you're the type of person who likes home cooked comfort food this is your place. I've had the deep fried catfish, fried chicken, mac & cheese and red beans & rice. Not all at one time! A must try in the IE.

The family and I recently tried this place due to the Yelp reviews! One word describes this place WoW!! My husband got the fried chicken and it was fresh and flavorful! I had the turkey chops (one fried/one smothered). The turkey chop (like fried chicken but it's turkey ) were amazing!!! The sides were huge and made from the heart! Mary whoever you are you cook with love and I could taste it! We will be back!

Hmm... Soul food.. I had it togo... I tried the fried catfish. It's good and delicious!! Yam and mac n' cheese are yums!! If your in the area, this place is a great place to have Soul food. Don't forget the cornbread!! I will be back again!! P.S. Where is Ms. Stewart?

The food was delicious, especially the oxtails. They r only served on sat and sunday after 1pm. They do need to improve on the mac and cheese though. The fried chicken was great. Black eye peas very tastey. I would highly recommend this restaurant and plan on returning.

  • Tabby L.

Had the chicken and waffles. Chicken was steaming hot, fresh out the oil. Really bland no seasoning or flavor. Waffles were ok, my friend had the Snapper plate, it was over cooked, & dry. Mac n cheese was real greasy instead of cheesy. Lemonade was straight from country time. How hard is it to make fresh lemonade? Not for me

  • Victoria M.

Customer service wasn't the best but the food was amazing. I got the catfish dinner (fried) with Mac n cheese, greens, and green beans. Everything was great. Also came with 2 pieces of corn bread, which I wasn't a big fan of. Mac n cheese was my favorite. My boyfriend got the catfish dinner (fried) with mac n cheese, yams, and black eyed peas. He loved it. I sampled the yams and they were better than any I've tasted EVER ! We threw in peach cobbler. Great portion and tasted amazing. Ever better when we warmed it up. The portions were good. A little pricey but you get a lot of delicious food. Well definitely be back. Con: they were out of banana pudding.

PLEASE READ!!!!!! So my family and I have seen this restaurant many times before and wanted to try it out. As we finally went to the restaurant the first thing that we noticed was that the Grade for the restaurant was A C!!!!! But we still decided to try it out as we were taking our orders we notice that other customers behind us were complaining about getting their orders mixed up and also not having enough oxtail. Then I decided to read the reviews on here and noticed people had nothing but bad things to say as far as vomiting and having diarrhea and poor customer service which got me terrified. But still we took a chance. it smells good it looked good but the tasting was not all that great. I got the BBQ chicken which was the only thing good. Side orders; yams- good. Greens- VERY salty mashed potatoes- ok and corn bread- ok. The customer service there was kinda bad they didn't seem friendly the cook came outside about 100 times eating something in his mouth another cook came out to the front area and just chilled there looking at his phone while it was charging. Overall I don't think I'm going back there. I really wanted it to b great there being that there isn't that many soul food restaurant in my area. I really hope they read this and step it up with the customer service. Remember a smile goes a loooonnngggg way.

Dude. I couldn't even order!!!! They ran out of food on a Saturday. Turned away a son and his father, sharing that they were closed (@7:15), although they close at 8. I tried calling before I came in, my mom really reaaaallly wanted them. It's mother's day weekend, so I oblige and drive there to TRY to get through and to understsnd this out of food business. Were inconsistent in their message, telling me they werent even taking orders, even though they were still open... They were out of damn near everything except fish. :( annnndddd they stop frying after 7:30. Wtf, who does that? I will never go back and I'll stick to Stein's.

Food absolutely amazing. I had the smothered turkey wing and leg with cornbread dressing with sides macaroni and cheese, steamed cabbage to die for, yams beautifully cooked. The portions are large but I scraped my plate although I was full.. Simply delicious. the peach cobbler was also very very scrumptious. I ruined my diet for the whole week but it was so totally worth it. Run to this restaurant don't walk. Enjoy!

Today is Bugs Bunny day. Some people get offended that I am so irreverent of Easter but I wonder who doesn't like Bugs Bunny and why they feel offended by a cartoon character? Anyways, I finished my workout early because the gym was practically empty. I don't understand why that was so but I'm not complaining since I almost had free reign to all the equipment. I was famished & wanted to eat a truck load of good food. I had been meaning to dine here so I said to myself today is the day. I'm glad I came. I ordered the Ox Tail lunch but was told they only serve the dinner portion (comes with 3 sides, a drink & cornbread) on weekends even though it was high noon. I told the cute server that was fine because I was starving. For my sides I chose Collard Greens, Black-eyed Peas & String Beans. The food was great. Mmmm mmm good! The portion sizes were decent for the dinner option. I thought the prices were reasonable. The place was almost full. Everyone was dressed nicely, like they had just left church or something... The women had on fancy hats & Spring colors. The cacophony of colors really liven up the restaurant's simple decor. I suspect this place has been around awhile & from the look of things this mom & pop operation hasn't updated the facade, furnishings, & decor since its grand opening.. But I'm an unpretentious guy so these details do not matter. I'm all about the quality of the food. As long as the food is awesome you can serve it to on paper plates & furnitures from the 1960's and I'd happily gobble it down.

This place is NOT an accurate reflection of southern food! I don't know who is in the back cooking...but he's no chef, he's someone's cousin who needed a job. I ordered snapper and grits for breakfast. They served me old freeze burned snapper and it was so tough and chewy. I never had a piece of fish that's so tough and chewy! My husband's potatoes were burnt, not to mention their seasoning is off, completely off! I hated this place, not to mention the level of cleanliness, its subpar to say the least. Needles to say i will NEVER return here.

I got the baked chicken with stuffing and gravy, black eye peas, greens and potato salad and it came with corn bread. It was great. Everything was seasoned and taste great. I was very satisfied with quality and quantity. The customer service was great. I'm going back soon!

This place should not call themselves a "soul food restaurant" because there's no soul no where the food is disgusting. I really should have listen to the reviews and not my friend who hyped this place up. I swear the chicken wings looked like they where shot with steroids they where huge, the mac n cheese no taste and running and I was really looking forward to eating my ox tails biiiiiiig disappointment I will stick with the best soul food around Dulans

  • Mandy C.

Due to a close friend recommending this place and my uncurable and unconditional love for soul food I gave this place a try. The best ox tails ive had since I left New York years ago. The gravy on the mashed potatoes and the one used on those oxtails was enough yum to bring me back. The mac n cheese wasnt very good for 2 reasons...1) it had a sweet taste to it as if they added sugar, 2) no cheese flavor and very little signs of cheese. The red beans and rice...same thing tasted sweet. They should really not add sugar to these dishes. Its ruining them. The red beans and rice was also a bit bland for my taste. The corn bread was decent I am quite picky when it comes to corn bread, the texture and taste were good but not the best. So I extremely recommend the ox tails or pretty much anything with gravy cause that stuff can make anything taste good :) I will be back Mary Stewart, I will be back. Hopefully next time I will have room to try some dessert.

Just ate here today I ordered the catfish dinner with Mac n cheese and yams and greens.. My hubby ordered BBQ ribs. The food is okay it's defiantly not the best soul food I've had. I really think my greens are better. But if your just in the mood for soul food and don't feel like cooking it yourself or driving to LA for something better then this will do.

This is good honest food. Not fancy but you don`t always want fancy and certainly not for lunch during the week.delicious corn muffin and the chops were excellent and very large. Very good red beans and rice. Not as good as Busters in New Orleans but this is Rialto, Ca.

Hear about this place from a good friend. We came and ordered smothered chicken, meatloaf, mashed potatoes with gravy, buttered corn, cabbage and greens, black eye peas, red beans and rice, hot links and peach cobbler. Everything was excellent. I put this place on my calendar for once a week.

Wow do I have a lot to say. Walked in and was told to seat ourselves. Waitress was nice but service slow as she was servicing the entire place. Got what they considered to be "fresh lemonade" and it was made from lemon juice concentrate and was nothing "fresh" about it. Took forever for them to take our order and not once did they ask if we wanted our drinks refilled. Food came and it was cold. Between all of us we had fried chicken, smothered chicken, red beans, greens, mac and cheese, yams, and cornbread. Gravy on chicken and sides were all cold. Asked them to reheat and she stuck food in a microwave on the counter clearly for all patrons to see. Food had NO FLAVOR!! Even hot sauce didnt help. I have also never had mac and cheese that had an after taste. Completely disappointed. I give 2 stars only because the waitress was nice and she was trying her best giving the fact she was doing it alone... while other workers/friends of owner/whoever were standing around watching the basketball game as if they were at some kind of sports bar. Tacky!! Will not return and suggest YOU DONT SPEND YOUR MONEY! Its better to travel to LA and go to M&M's cause this is a true disgrace to be called "soul food." Obviously they dont know what soul food is! By the way, attempted to reheat leftovers at home and try to spice it up to see if it would help... there was no helping that mess.

When here this pass Sunday @ about 1pm. The place only had a few patrons at the time, I heard that it gets busy pass 3pm. We order our food, wife had ox-tails, I had Turkey wing with dressing. Same as some of the other had said no lunch special on Sunday only dinners. OK...... 1st we got our sides, which were HOT, along with our cornbread. About time we got our main dish I thought those were going to be the same. No.... disappointment. they were only warm at best. I thought for the price I paid I would at lease get a full wing. NOPE! It tasted like they just took it out of the fridge and stuff it in the microwave. But what save the day were the sides. I had black eye peas, yams, and cabbage. Those were jamming. the wife had rice & gravy, cabbage, & I can't remember the other one. So....... with that being said, don't go with thinking that It's as good as M & M, they could do better!!!!

I've been looking for a local Soul Food Restaurant that was reasonably priced and I have found just the place. I stopped by to pick up dinner as it was way too hot to cook, and I was pleasantly surprised how well the food tasted. Everything I ordered was well seasoned and had nice portions (enough to share). I ordered fried pork chops (2), rice and gravy, cabbage, yams and for dessert - peach cobbler, just like my grandmother use to make! It was worth every penny. Very modest surroundings however, If you're looking for a down-home restaurant with competent staff who are friendly, as were the patrons that I encountered, then you won't be disappointed. I will definitely return as there were more items on the menu that I want to try!

Went today and had catfish, mac n cheese, cabbage, and green beans. They were out of yams and greens and smothered steak as well as ox tails, also out of short ribs, all the stuff I like. So, I settled for the Catfish which was very good, but the sides! Yuck the cabbage was overcooked and sweet like they put sugar in them, the green Beans were straight from the can, and they also were doused in sugar. The Mac n cheese was awful! And tasted too sweet, they put the sugar in it as well. How do you have a soul food restaurant and can't make Mac n cheese? My husband did enjoy his smothered chicken and rice, but did not like the sugar Mac n cheese. Cornbread was good though. I'm not impressed with this place at all...

Hi. I recently wrote a small reveiw about going to visit this place and I di go. I also said I met Ms. Mary, I didn't. Unfortuantely she was the original owner and once Co founder of M and M's Soul food Restaurants. I do regret to say Ms. Mary passed away in 1999 I was told and the young lady I met was not her. However she was very nice and I did get to see her after Iwalked in; which was good, there's is nothinglike being invited soemwhere and theh person isn't in, I still would have sta;yed though. The place is clean and the atmosphere was gentle. The booths were filled and people were coming in left and right as I sat to order, and while I ate. My freind and I had a comfortable time, and the food was delicious. I will be going back and will be shouting it out that they are open and have been since December 2012 I learned!! I wish I had known sooner, but oh well I know now!!! The young women serving were very nice and polite, and oh there is so much food on the plates!!! and the CORNBREAD omg!!! by all means go!!! Get your grub on and have a relaxing time!! Great for families.

The food here is absolutely amazinggggggg! My boyfriend and I were on our way home after going ATV riding in Lake Arrowhead when we started craving soul food. A quick Yelp search yielded Mary Stewart's Southern Soul Food restaurant. We walked in and were greeted immediately. Once we ordered, our food came out in 7 minutes!!!! It was perfect timing because we were starving. We ordered the ox tails, fried catfish, red beans and rices, corn bread, peach cobbler, green beans, and mac n cheese. EVERYTHING was sooooo good. It was all very fresh and hot. I have told a couple of my friends about this place and now they, too, love Mary Stewart's!!! God bless Mary Stewart!

I had an inkling that this place was going to have good food... and my spider sense was right. First off, it's next to a truck stop. You can't have a restaurant next to a truck stop unless you've got some good comfort food at a reasonable price. Second, it's soul food. I love soul food; so I already had a preference for this place. Third, the inside is not decorated. They don't waste time trying to give you ambiance; they just concentrate on good food. I got the fried catfish with collard greens and black eyed peas while mom got the meatloaf with yams and mac n cheese. We already thought that we had a good meal going... then they brought out the corn muffins. They were hot and fresh out of the oven and with a little butter and honey on them, they melt in your mouth. The service is very friendly and helpful. However, I can understand why some other reviews have complained of the service. Let me address a few things: You seat yourself when you come in; there isn't a hostess to greet you. The staff are going to treat you as nicely as you treat them. Come in with a bad attitude or a "come wait on me hand and foot" attitude and you may not get what you want.

Big, delicious portions of food your grandma used to make. Closed Mon. And Tues. Just putting that out there. So far I've had the Turkey chops(excellent alternative if you like pork chops but can't eat them) mac n cheese(homemade no box stuff) and rice n gravy. All good. Come give it a try.

Very pleased with the food and serving sizes! Service not do much they should really get some service training or hire a staff that is more welcoming. But the good was bomb and my whole tale left with leftovers! The prices were not bad at all either!

Only stop by if you're prepared to wait. it took 40 minutes for me to get a standard lunch menu item. The atmosphere was loud and lively (though there was only a handful of older gentleman in the corner of the restaurant). The good: The sweet tea is addictive (and comes free with dishes off the "lunch" menu). The corn bread is sooooo good. Buttery top and soft inside; I took mine to go and didn't taste it until I remembered it came with the meal. I can only imagine what it tastes like hot/warm. The not as good: The chicken wings are some of the biggest I've ever had, and that's the problem. Let me explain...if the wings were smaller, you'd get a taste of that perfectly fried and salty seasoned chicken skin in every bite. Since the wings were so big, I only got a few delicious bites followed by "tastes like chicken", chicken. This was the one time I wish the portions were smaller. The red beans were too salty for my taste (my experience has been that when red beans are slow boiled, they produce a delicious gravy that doesn't require a lot of salt). Other than that, the beans were cooked to perfection (not too mushy or chalky). The ugly: So the Mac and Cheese hasn't received great reviews, which is what made me wanna try it (I never let someone judge for me). Unfortunately, I really didn't enjoy it all. The noodles were cooked fine but when I think Mac and Cheese, I think gooey, thick cheese that holds the noodles together. The cheese concoction they've come up with here just tastes strange (not like cheese at all) and is extremely watery. It tastes like the noodles were boiled in a chicken broth (which isn't a bad thing, I'm just saying it doesn't taste like cheese).

If I lived in SoCal, especially the IE, I would eat here so much they would probably kick me out. A friend of mine warned me that he referred to the gravy as "crack gravy". I could not think of a better description for this addictive stuff they claim is gravy. Put it on your rice, your potatoes, your meat, everything is better with gravy. (Pretty sure I just came up with their new slogan) It's probably a good thing they are in Cali. As I could imagine my waist size getting bigger from all the delicious soul food. I tried catfish, pork chops, eggs, hotlinks, potatoes, greens, rice. Every item I just mentioned I would order again. The only thing I have yet to try, is the meatloaf. I have heard it's just as good as everything else, and I have no reason to doubt this place. I have to point out, the hotlink was the best I ever had. In Vegas, I drive to the hood to get a similar style hot link. I don't know if it was a certain brand or meat. Or if it's the way they char it a little. But my mouth is watering just a little bit as I think about that link. The service was good. They seemed like the type of people who take care of their regulars. A small place, I could imagine a wait during busy hours. I would say, it is worth the wait. Good, home-style cookin', by those who are passionate about it. Does it get better than that?

Yum, yum, yum!! This is a can't miss stop! I wish I lived closer, because I'd love to try all the things on the menu. We stopped in on a Sunday morning on the way to the last day of the festival we were in town attending. Even though there was six of us they quickly rearranged the tables to fit us. Their menu contains all your classic southern comfort food. We weren't in time for lunch so we ordered off the breakfast menu. I was so torn between getting chicken & waffles or the chicken wings. Only because I really wanted biscuits and gravy did I finally choose the chicken wings which came with 2 over easy eggs, hash browns, biscuits, and a side of gravy. (If you want gravy with your biscuits you have to ask. Unless it says biscuits & gravy.) Omg when the food came out it was all huge! The biscuits were even huge! My chicken wings must have came off of a mutant chicken. Well, if they did that was one tasty chicken. They were perfectly fried, juicy and moist. My eggs were cooked just right as well! The yolks were runny, but the whites were fully cooked. The hash browns had good flavor and the biscuits and gravy were excellent. The gravy is probably the best I've ever had. I was so full. I wanted to keep stuffing my face it was so good. I really wish they had a Mary Stewart's in Las Vegas. If your in the area make sure you check out this hidden gem. Writing about it has made me want it again!!! Mmmmmmm

My overall experience at MS' was great. The service was friendly, the food was good, and everything was reasonably priced. The place is clean and well kept but definitely seasoned. I really enjoyed the fact that there is a family vibe, from the ppl who work there to other guest. It felt like everybody was happy to be there. The service was quick and the food was amazing, even my chatty 3year old went silent when her plate hit the table. Because we were the last customers before closing, they were kind enough to give us a complimentary desert (sweet potato pie). We were stuffed but I took it to my mom and she LOVED it! We will definitely be back!

Best soul food restaurant I've ever been to.... Food is like my grandma made it!! The only negative about this place is their servers need some training. They are very nice and friendly but lack basic training ie: keep water filled, remove dishes when finished etc. But when you ask for anything they got it right away. I can't wait to go back!

This was the first time I had been there, plus a friend suggested I should try it. And let me tell you the food was amazing. Had the turkey and dressing, feel in love. We also had the catfish & mac & cheese & greens. Did I mention the peach cobbler & the service, it doesn't get better than this. Walked out happy and will be returning again. Over all satisfied customer :)

Just left this place, and I must admit it was the work dining experience of my life. The service was horrible, the fried chicken was not seasoned, and the place was swarmed with flies.

Consistently greatly food at this spot, everyday and any time of day. I usually hit this place weekly. It's food like your Big Momma, MaMa or Abuela puts on your familia's table. I'm a regular. LOL

Working next door over at the I-10 Truck Stop, Hungry and ready for lunch. .. and smell something cooking and smells delicious. The Thursday Special, Chicken & Dumping's with Collard greens and Black Eye Beans with Fresh Corn Bread. One thing I know for sure, I will be back. This is Hands down the BEST Southern Soul Food Cooking I've had in a long long time. Thank you,

The best soul food you're going to get in the Inland Empire by far! I thought about maybe taking off a star because it's not the best venue, their service is pretty mediocre & they always run out of my peach cobbler ;(, but as soon as I start eating my food, I forget about all of that...Everything fried is so flavorful & crispy. The food seems like it somehow gets sweeter every time I come, but it's good old-fashioned soul food at its best. My Dad told me that Mary Stewart is the daughter of the owner of M&Ms in LA, but I'm not sure if that's true because I think Mary Stewart is better.

Moved here from Atlanta and had been looking for a good soul food restaurant and found them on Yelp. The service was great and the food was great. The portions were huge. I ordered the catfish and it taste just as good as home. Will be going back today

Something about Soul Food that just takes me back to the many tiresome hours spent in a blazing kitchen in Hot Springs,Arkansas with my mom and her cast iron skillet, teaching me how to make everything from hot water cornbread, cabbage, greens, baked Mac and cheese, and crispy fried catfish. After all of that was devoured, we'd be right back at it making pecan pie,7up cake, peach cobbler, and pound cake! Calories? Yes! DELICIOUS? Duh?! They make gyms just so i can eat with no hesitation or restraint at places like this!! I'm blessed to have those family recipes and those memories with my mom and I occasionally indulge my family and break out that skillet for an all day kitchen love affair, but in between time, it's always a bonus to have someone do all the work for you! If you're looking for that type of food or feeling nostalgic about Soul Food Sunday Dinner then get yourself a seat and order up the classics done right here at Mama Stewart's! I ordered the catfish dinner with Mac and cheese, mashed potatoes and gravy, and greens! It was melt in your mouth good! Also had to sample off the hubsters plate and sample his oxtails, yams, and cabbage. All of which packed some serious flavor and texture! Those cornbread muffins served piping hot allow the butter to pool and run in every crevice so you get a warm soft piece of corn pillow in every bite! Wash it all down with tart and tangy lemonade or, sweet sun iced tea. The kids will love the fruit punch kool aid and crispy chicken strips! I could go on and on... but this five star review is well deserved! Trust me on this one!

I was introduced to this place by my cousin, and living Inland,it's hard to find a good Soul Food place to eat but,Mary Stewart's food is very good . I got the Ox Tails, very good and Tasty but,I did a phone order 3 days ago,and the woman who was taking the order was very rude, with and nasty attitude, and because of that,I gave a 3 star instead of 5 star, and I won't be going back!

Ordered two dinners: the fried red snapper with cabbage, yams and mac & cheese; the smothered turkey chops with yams, potato salad and mac & cheese. The 2nd meal came with cabbage instead of potato salad but the food was so good that taste made up for the misstep. Both dinners came with 2 cornbread muffins. If I'm not mistaken they were hot water. Needless to say the dinners were enough to feed me and my husband for 2 dinner days and we don't play. We are stuffed and letting our food digest so we can dive into the peach cobbler we ordered for dessert. If the food was any indication of how dessert will taste, we are in big trouble Quality food at a great price. Who could ask for more?

The fried chicken here was really good & so was the sweet tea. I had the greens, mac & cheese, & black eyed peas with the chicken. & the side dishes were ok. I felt the greens were too salty & the mac & cheese was only so-so. The staff was ok.. They weren't rude, but they could have been nicer.

Came here today for the first time the food was okay! I got the fried chicken wing plate with macaroni and cheese and yams. The fried chicken was piping hot and crunchy, (major plus ) however, the chicken isnt very flavorful at all. Definitely not well seasoned. The mac n cheese was great! And the yams were pretty tasty as well. Not too sure if I'll be back.

Delish!! I read with interest the comments about the food being sugared and I am glad I immediately disregarded those posts. Anyone who knows anything about soul food knows there are regional differences in how soul food is seasoned. Some styles favor vinegar, some smoke, etc. There is a sweetness to some of the dishes but that is how my mother and grandmother (both Lousiana born) cook. Its a small restaurant that looks like it might have been an old truck stop diner. The inside has probably seen better days but there is an attempt to keep the place neat and clean. Table were cleared quickly and staff was constantly wiping and cleaning up. I ordered our food to go so I cannot comment on service. But, the woman who was working the counter was very helpful and made some great recommendations. We ordered the turkey chop and smothered short ribs. First and foremost...THE TURKEY CHOP IS TO DIE FOR!! It is like a pork chop but turkey. Seasoned perfectly. We loved it. The short ribs were good. I thought they were well seasoned but my hubby felt the gravy was delish but that the short rib itself needed a bit more salt. I disagree. Sides ordered were Mac and cheese (good), greens (excellent), mashed potatoes (good), red beans and rice (decent), yams (excellent), dressing (decent---im partial to my momma's so its got to be pretty darn special to bump hers). They also threw in a sample of peach cobbler. And I ordered banana pudding. I preferred the banana pudding over the peach cobbler but both were good. They also sell very large sizes of the desserts to go. I would definitely return. Order the turkey chop!!!

Today, I wanted lunch by myself. And it was nice and peaceful. Full of people. Service was a lot around. The people at the other table first time visitors. They loved it. And then the men seemed like regulars. I had the lunch special

Came here for Father's Day, my hubby wanted some good ole southern food and yes that is exactly what we got. By no means did this disappoint us. Food was very delicious and the service was excellent. Hubby had smothered pork chops with greens, mac & cheese and mash potatoes & gravy and I had smothered turkey chops with dressing, greens and mash potatoes and we both shared an order of yams. Everything was great and the portions were huge. I was so stuffed so I got an order of their banana pudding to go and took over half my dinner home. I loved our server. She was very sweet and always checked on us and made us feel practically like family. We will definitely be back to try a few other things on the menu. Great find!

I arrived today for lunch and I was disappointed with the service. Upon arriving, I was looked at by several employees but they all failed to greet me as a customer. I had to ask for a menu from the server. After 15 seconds of looking at the menu, I was asked if I was ready to order. There were no other customers in the location for me to be rushed. Within a few minutes, more customers arrived and were greeted by "take out or dine in?". There were no hello or welcome greetings or smiles to demonstrate positive attributes of customer service. Upon waiting for my lunch to arrive, I noticed how there were many hand written notes on the walls, doors, and on a broken seat. The English grammar errors on them were pathetic. With the 5+ employees on shift, you would think someone could fix them. A customer pointed out the error on the sign, on the broken chair but the employee was visibly annoyed. My food came out with a reasonable time and the quality was good. I do not plan on repeating business with Mary Stewart's since their business has poor customer service and poor intrapersonal skills. I miss Stene's in Rialto. Ruby's soul food was always on point and she welcomed you with a smile!

This place is really good. I always like to give family restaurants a shot and my family and I love soul food--this was a no-brainer. I ordered two Catfish dinners and one Fried Chicken lunch. The difference between the dinner and lunch is that you get more meat, three sides and no drink. The lunch specials are two sides and a drink. Everything comes with cornbread. The fried Catfish had no smell (it was fresh) and perfectly battered with cornmeal. It was meaty too; the balance of breading and fish was good. The fried chicken was crisp and juicy with great flavor. I recommend the collared greens, Mac and Cheese and red beans with rice. Huge portion sizes and everything was flavorful and piping hot. I will definitely be back again soon.

This place definitely did not disappoint. The mashed potatoes and gravy were a little too salty for me but the fried catfish was still tender and the costing was flavorful. The cabbage and greens tasted like good home cooking, so over all I had a good experience and will be back.
