Good lord, I want this place to rock. The service was great. How could we go wrong with Moses as our server? I felt like he was going to take us to the promised land.....until the food came. Actually, the salad (Baratta) was great and the Two Soup Soup was good too. We ordered the lobster pasta special and the chilean sea bass. Both were way over cooked. Chew, chew, chewy! Major disappointment. The flourless chocolate cake was as bad as the entries. It's like everything was frozen for awhile. Not worth the $160 for two. We will find another place.

Now this IS a REAL restaurant....period! If I could best describe the best Continental dishes on earth to a visitor from outer space I would take them to Joe Greensleeves. I have worked in many fine restaurants for 23 years in San Francisco & Palm Springs Ca. If your going to do it right you make it from scratch and use fresh ingredients. Joe Greensleeves is that place...DOES NOT take shortcuts in what they prepare for you to knock your tastebud socks off. My sister and I had to quickly find a great place to take our Aunt for a very special birthday. We struck gold in coming here. Mike was our server...great job and a genuine super guy. We shared 3 apps ... Scallops, eggplant parm and the best crab cake hands down I've ever had in my life...seriously. I haven't had a scallop this good since I tasted small Nantucket scallops. These larger scallops were prepared perfectly! I don't want to ruin it by trying to explain the prep of this dish. I'm sure if you go Mike (server) could do much better than I. The scallops were so tender!!! These apps were great we were so happy!!!! Mike informed us of some wonderful apps and mains that were not on menu. One being the scallops. As soon as I heard Chilean Sea Bass..."yes please" Sea bass was wonderful, tender, and my best compliments to chef. Wonderful thick cut of fish. Served with a delicious pineapple chutney (forgive me Mike if I don't remember name of what surrounded the sea bass) some tasty potatoes and vegetable. We finished by ordering 3 desserts...carrot cake, black forrest and creme brulle. Oh my gosh...a real carrot cake with a real cream cheese frosting that just floored us and made our jaws drop!! Yum!!! I I live in Bay Area and if I ever pass through Redlands I will be back! Restaurant also was pleasant and very comfortable. Thank you everyone for making my Aunts birthday extra special. See you again and again.

My family and I had Christmas Eve dinner here. We had reservations and were seated promptly. They had a special Christmas Eve menu and it was hard to choose. I ended up ordering the spinach and arugula salad and lobster ravioli. The salad had a lot of flavor and was delicious. The lobster ravioli was good, but I felt like it was missing something. The service was great.

Fantastic. 3 of us went to Joe Greensleeves last night. Rutherford Cabernet, yum. The bread is accompanied by olive oil with garlic. Crab cakes melt in your mouth. Caesar salads followed by Sea bass that melts in your mouth, rib-eye cooked to perfection, and the salmon. Excellent service to go with the meal. Top notch.

I had not been in here in a long time. The menu has changed greatly. But it is still worth every penny. I went on a Monday night and it was busy. the steak I had was good not great. The Wild Boar sausage was great and the wine list is worth it. The gem is the wait staff. They are attentive and professional.
(4)Ryan D.
The menu is overpriced and the food is simple. Nice atmosphere but not the nicest. If I wanted to pay 40 for a dinner I would not go here. Unfortunate for them that is about how much it cost for each person.

Absolutely fabulous!! I've recently re-discovered this establishment, and I was pleasantly surprised that the exceeded all my expectations! Being a foodie (more specifically, a steak snob), I usually find it hard for places to go above and beyond my expectations - but the staff at Joe Greensleeve's definitely did. I love the fact that it's owned by a long-time local Redlands family, and the entire family is involved! I saw them make there way around the restaurant talking to diners, striking up chit chat and recommending dishes and wines (quite a nice wine selection!) Note: the Boar Sausage is delicious!! It's made in house, and is better than any others I have tried.

Took family (wife and 3 kids) to dinner. Got seated right where we requested...by the firelplace. Service was excellent from the time we walked in the door to the time we left. Each of us had something different and they accomodated my youngest by making a dinner plate that was not on the menu. The food was simply put...Awesome!!! I had the salmon and it was an amazing dinner. As good as it gets. I had been before and rememberd it being really good. I was wrong...it was Great. Great Job Joe Greensleeves. Matthew.

Amazing service and food! Te only reason I have it 4 instead of 5 is the server recommended a special that was not prepared the best in my opinion. It was our first time there and everyone else's dishes were excellent, my dish was the other mediocre. We will defiently come back, the salad was so refreshing. Might have to go back this week!

Wonderful! Amazing food! Amazing Service! Great place for date night. My husband and I will definitely be going back.

Went here for lunch several times. First time around we had excellent service, the waitress was on top of it. The food came quickly, my drink was replenished very quickly and the food was moderately priced. The second time around it seem that they were missing member of the waiting staff so it took a while for us to even get her to the table to take our order. The food was excellent though, ambience was quiet though the decor is quite dated. All in all I would highly advised them for lunch if you can even find a parking spot.

Went here for a drug rep dinner on 8/6 at 6pm. This was my first dining experience here and was good. There was a lack of parking and I ended up parking on 5th street (out back). Ambience: When I arrived, the restaurant was empty. I was directed to the private dining area upstairs. This was surprisingly very nice and cozy. The set up could fit approx 15-20 easily. There is also an adjacent/connecting bar area that is nicely decorated. For those looking for a private dining area, I would def recommend this setting. By the time I left around 8:30pm, the main dining appeared to be at 60-70% capacity. Service: Very good for a group experience. We had 1 main server and a few extra helpers. Orders were taken right away. Drinks were brought out. Food came out in a timely fashion. They did mix up my entree order accidentally (but no worries cuz i enjoyed the steak more than the fish anyways). They were quick to bring out togo boxes and even a togo cup for coffee. This was definitely not their first rodeo (in terms of drug rep dinner). Food: It was a 4 course dinner. I opted for the greek salad, which was ok. Nothing too fancy. The crab cake was decent and finished off in 3 bites. Not as lumpy with crab meat as I would have liked, but ok flavoring. I was initially going to get the baramundi (sp?) fish but was accidentally given the filet. I scored in that mix up. The filet was cooked perfectly to a medium and was very flavorful and tender. There was a peppercorn sauce on top that I could have done without. The meat was a decent portion (guessing 6-7 oz). The accompaniment of mash potatoes and broccoli was also decent. Dessert was a frosting mush with carrot cake on the side. All in all, a good experience. I just may visit this place again for a regular dinner.

First time coming here. Great food. The Boar Sausage appetizer was delicious. Paired with a Jordan red wine (great) and the Lobster Ravioli (delish). Finished it off with some toffee cake and a cappuccino.
(4)Sharon L.
Horrid. Waiters are pretentious. Had the oyster mushroom app which was nothing more than over sautéed chopped mushrooms with some Brie thrown on top. Gorgonzola salad was tasteless. Salmon so over cooked it took 2 glasses of wine to wash down. We have eaten here several times before and enjoyed our meals. Off night? New chef? Regardless, tonight was so awful we will not be back
(2)Patrick E.
Great place for a upscale dining experience. Had the Boar Sausage which is made in house. It was amazing. Also had the chicken parmesan which was also delicious. Seamus our server was attentive, fun, and helpful. Would definitely go back and recommend to anyone looking for a step up from the typical dining options in Redlands. One thing to note, the website is out of date. Prices and options aren't accurate. Expect to pay a little more than the published prices. Also no drink menu which made it a little hard to understand the options.
(4)Nancy R.
The food was incredible! The service was good and truly liked the ambiance of the place

I went here once on a date and was very pleasantly surprised. It's a little restaurant on Orange St. and to me is considered one of the few fine dining spots in Redlands. When my boyfriend and I first walked in we were greeted by a very friendly host who sounded like he was Scottish. He was also our waiter and was very informative about the food and beer and wasn't shy about giving recommendations. I had trouble deciding between the orange glazed duck and lobster ravioli and he was very quick to recommend the duck which I am so grateful that he did. It was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The duck was just so tender and flavorful and went nicely with the orange glaze. It practically melted in my mouth. It also came with cooked carrots and mashed potatoes which were good and filling. My boyfriend got the veal which the waiter had also recommended and it too was delicious. It was the first time we had tried veal and although he thought it was ok, I enjoyed it but I do think the duck was better. We also had ordered an appetizer of clams and mussels in white wine and it was so delicious! They give you a really nice portion of it too and could pass for a meal on it's own. The ambiance in the restaurant was also nice. It had pretty lights on the ceiling and historical pictures of the town of Redlands on the wall. Unfortunately they did not have a beer menu but the waiter is informative and gives good suggestions. The prices were also very decent for a fine dining quality restaurant. Most of the entrees are between $25.00-$45.00. The duck and the veal were around $27.00 and the clams and mussels were $10.00. Overall it was a nice place, reasonably priced, and a really good dining experience. I will be going back to try other things.

Wonderful dinner! Service was amazing and the food was delicious!! Will definitely be back again!
(5)Jay D.
First class service for business class prices. Service was personable, professional and friendly. I would gladly give the restaurant five stars but the time it took for food to come out was very long. Otherwise the food was excellent in taste, freshness and almost perfect in portion size (just a little bit more would have been great). Shamus and his staff are awesome!
(4)David C.
Their chef must not understand how to balance flavors. Many items featured one overpowering ingredient that spoiled the dish. The olive oil they offer with their bread was spicy! A little kick would have been nice but this stuff burns your throat. I had the fish of the day as my entree, which was barramundi in a lemon butter sauce. Here, the overpowered ingredient was the butter. It tasted like the chef melted an entire stick of butter over the fish. The fish tasted tender and moist, a good sign of freshness, but the butter ruined it. Skip dessert. I have had better cheesecake from a supermarket freezer. It was not all bad. Highlights of the meal: Crabcake appetizer- Actual crab meat. Yes! Service- Our server was very attentive and sweet.

This place is yummy!!! The lobster ravioli's are sooo good! It is a bit pricey but worth the money.

I have met my Aunt here for lunch before and we had a wonderful experience. We decided to meet for lunch again, last Thursday (7-31-14) at 11:30am. We had four children with us. They are 3 1/2, 8, 12 and 14 years old. They were and are very well behaved. They are taken to nice restaurants all the time. We were not loud or bothering other customers. Our waiter Isaiah, seemed bothered immediately. He acted annoyed that we only wanted to drink water. While ordering our food, he offered "kids meals" and named off a few meals we could order if we wanted. I ordered the Chicken Alfredo "kids meal" for my 3 1/2 year-old, as this is her favorite meal when we go out. The other kids ordered off of the regular menu. For the salads, we asked for the dressing on the side. The waiter insisted that there was hardly any dressing on it and talked us into having a normal salad. When we got our food the salads were drowning in dressing. The rest of the food was good. Nothing to write home about though. Our waiter didn't do a very good job of checking on us while we were there. Other people checked on us, so that was nice. I even forgot that he was our waiter because It had been so long since we had seen him. After we were all done eating it took a very long time before our waiter brought us our checks. My Aunt paid with cash she counted it three times before putting it in the book. She was expecting $13 back. We waited a very long time for him to bring the change. She was going to leave him a $12 tip but when she opened the book there was only three dollars in there. She didn't want to make a fuss because she loves this restaurant and wanted to come back. On my check, the "kids meal" cost $3 more than my meal. I brought it to our waiter's attention and once again he acted annoyed. We kindly argued about it for a few minutes before he decided to ask the chef about it. He came back and said the chef said to take the chicken off. So, that was $3 taken off the bill. I still wasn't happy, and he went on to compare dinner prices and tell me what a great deal I got. I asked to see the menu to look at the kids meals and he said that the kids meals are a verbal menu. I asked to talk to the manager and he told me he was the manager, which shocked me. I really didn't believe him, but couldn't say much more. My Aunt and I were very angry by this point and both decided to leave him a $1 tip, each. This is something we never do. But, we needed him to know that we were not happy. I will not be coming back here. I am very disappointed with the service and the attitude.

A real family owned neighborhood restaurant with terrific food. Super friendly staff, great service. Always interesting specials, full bar. Our favorite dinner spot in Redlands.
(4)Samantha B.
This us one of the few upscale places in town. It is a fun place to go for a special occasion and feel fancy. The food is okay, not always worth the price tag. The staff is a little snobby, but that is the way they should be at a restaurant like this.
(3)Jay K.
Went back here...the place is under new management and the experience is night and day! Excellent service and the food was outstanding. The Two Soups was a tomato bisque and cream of potato and it was spectacular! The only negative is still the worn condition of the restaurant...same threadbare carpet as four years ago. Maybe that's part of the charm?

One of the icons of Redlands' dining experiences. Always a treat for friends and family. We are local to Redlands, so perhaps this review is a bit biased based on nostalgia. Caveat lector! "The Restaurant of Joe Greensleeves" is described on Gayot.com pretty accurately: "neighborhood eatery that would be a welcome addition to any street." I totally agree, this is a neighborhood restaurant that continues to be a SOLID choice for a very nice meal at fairly reasonable prices. The food is fresh, well-seasoned and the portions are adequate. While it might seem quaint and provincial if it were located in San Francisco, LA or New York, we are profoundly lucky to have a gem like this in the Inland Empire. If you are looking for a French Laundry type experience, this is not the place. Cocktails and Bread Service: Cocktails are nicely mixed and the wine selection is very good for the area. The bread is always warm with a great crust and served with a spicy roasted garlic olive oil and foil wrapped butter. Appetizers and Salads: Crab cakes are good. Carpaccio is always excellent and served with arugula and olive oil. We've had a grilled asparagus salad with shaved parmesan a while ago and it was one of the best we've ever tried. The ingredients are always simple and beautifully fresh. Soups: One of the best things going here: the soup of two soups! Typically, these are very rich and incredibly savory. Soups vary so often, we always get surprised. Entrees: Steaks are always a favorite and prepared well with/without the various sauces. The rib eye with black truffle and fried egg should be tried at least once; totally decadent and rich. Pastas is always well prepared (good ratio of sauce/vegetable/meat to pasta), but sometimes less al dente than I like. The varieties, like the soups, change often. Like I said, we are probably biased, but after living in some culinary hot spots and often being disappointed by so-called superstar restaurants, Joe's is always consistent, delicious and reasonable.

I was intrigued by the photos from their Facebook posting so I decided to give the food a try and I was glad I did. I was properly greeted by the host and quickly ordered some food for takeaway. I ended up ordering the homemade lasagna. Boy was it fantastic; from the homemade pasta to the rich sauce I was very pleased. I will defiantly be back soon to try some of their other lunch specials!
(4)Mark A.
Great service and great food. We love the steaks and quaint atmosphere. If you haven't been here lately check it out. The new owners are friendly and attentive.
(5)L. C.
Had dinner here with my Aunt on a Tuesday night. The food & wine, we're great. However, the service was so incredibly slow I actually aged another year during ALL THE WAITING for this meal! We even waited more than 20 minutes once the meal concluded to actually get the check, after requesting it. Eat here ONLY when you want to eat a leisurely meal & have LOTS of time to spare. Our waiter thought the black napkins we requested were a novel concept... lol! :-) I give him a pass on this... though he's been waiting at the same restaurant for 30+ years.
(3)Waheed B.
NOTE: Experience was really 3.5 stars. Friendliest server and they know where to seat you when its a special occasion. I am a fan of the soup of soups and the chile oil for the bread. Service = 5 starts, food = 3 (A-OK) Greensleeves appetizer is unique and surprisingly filling so be careful to save room for soup and entrees. We ordered two pasta entrees. Both were good, but my fresh lobster meat was slightly overcooked and the dessert looked much better than actual taste. Both pasta dishes were made with pasta that is made in house, not ready-made (we requested and they obliged which was really nice). We had not visited for quite some time (over 5 years) but I think based upon this visit we will come back in the future. I feel there is good potential here and no major problems.
(4)San S.
Joe you surprised me - Your lunch menu was very reasonably priced and the food was delicious! I thought the restaurant would be small and crowded, but it is actually very comfortable. I'm sure the evening menu changes things up a bit but I'm sorry I didn't try it sooner. Waiter was very attentive too.
(4)Nathan G.
They have messed up my order the few times I have been in here. On the other hand the food is good.
(3)Katie G.
My husband and I adore this restaurant. It was one of the first experiences that we had with fine dining, but it was enough to make us come back time and time again. We have had no issues getting reservations on holidays, such as Valentine's Day, with little to no notice. The service is amazing, the servers and even the owner were very friendly. I once spilled my glass of wine on their white tablecloth and was mortified, but the owner came up to me and assured me that it is good luck in Italy to spill wine and not to worry about it. I was sold from then on! Their food is fantastic. Tender, juicy steaks that are so flavorful. The appetizers and desserts are amazing, too. Really fresh and you can tell how much they care. The decor is a bit outdated, but not distracting. I recommend this place to all my friends who visit from out of town and will find any excuse for a nice night out to eat here!
(5)Trevor W.
If you're in the IE, you can't do better. Solid atmosphere and the oil they serve with the bread has plenty of flavor and some kick. They do a great job and I swear by the duck gnocchi. It's delicious. I also enjoy the salmon and their mashed potatoes always hit the spot. Even better, they're open for lunch these days.
(4)Jarrod T.
Try the chefs chicken its amazing. The crab cakes starter was well made also. Service was great. If your I town go and see them!
(5)Elaine C.
We had a lovely Mother's Day lunch here. Our waiter, Isaiah, was very attentive and served us our food in a timely manner. Everyone agreed that their lunch was delicious. Even the owner stopped by our booth a couple of times to make sure that we were enjoying our lunch--very impressive! This is a lovely restaurant with delicious food and a relaxing ambiance.
(5)Candice R.
Walked passed the windows, saw a menu looked appetizing so went inside. Little did I know they actually had the lunch menu displayed so upon being seated received a dinner menu. Extremely overpriced compared to the quality of food. Ordered pesto gnocchi couldn't believe they actually served me alfredo sauce with a bit of parsley over my gnocchi. Bolangese tasted so familiar, almost like speghetti-o's. Don't think I'll be returning.

I wish I could have tried Joe Greensleeves, but that will never happen. After attending an evening event in town, a group of us decided to try to find dinner and cocktails. Our usual spots were either crowded or closed (it was 10:30 PM on a Saturday). We thought about Joe Greensleeves. After getting conflicting operating hours online, I called. Someone answered the phone, so I inquired about the hours for the evening. The man on the other end exclaimed "Are you kidding me?" To which I replied "no". He then said in a rude tone "5-9" and hung up. We walked by the restaurant on our way to somewhere else and saw a group inside (private party?) which would explain the phone being answered. Based on this one experience, I'll never try to go again
(1)Gracie B.
I love my husband for taking me here. I couldn't get enough of the oil and bread and the lobster ravioli was to die for! My husband had the Rib Eye with a fried egg and black truffles (one of the biggest pieces of meat I have EVER seen). I still cannot believe he finished the whole thing! For dessert I had chocolate Grappa and my hubby enjoyed a snifter of Oban Scotch along with homemade cheesecake. A great ending to a perfect meal! We will be back soon.
(5)Jason P.
Great local place! The service was some of the best we have experienced in a long time. We walked in without a reservation and they were able to accommodate us. We had the Burrata appetizer, filet with caramelized garlic and shallot sauce and Scottish salmon penne. All were terrific and I highly recommend them.
(4)Tori L.
Disappointing experience. For that amount of money it is reasonable to expect exceptional service and an amazing meal. We found that it was a combination of slow service, an unappetizing aroma, and bland food. Aside from the nice decor, I did not enjoy anything about our dinner.
(2)Peter G.
Small tidy restaurant; food presentation nice; service could improve alot; food taste quality average; cost too high for what you get! Trying to present the image of higher level restaurant claiming all pasta is "homemade"; certainly did not taste homemade; maybe I mistook the term; I was looking for "handmade" meaning food was prepared from scratch; not the case. Overall, needs considerable improvement all around to cover the prices!
(2)Sara M.
The food here is good and the cappuccino was my favorite part !! The only complaint I would have is that there understaffed
(4)James R.
Classic very old school food. I was trying to remember the last time I was served canned "California" olives on a plate. Service was nothing to rave about but "it got the job done." Lack of detail to service essentials. Most of the service was focused on the "regulars" than the "regular patrons. This is a very old school restaurant. Nothing inventive, inspiring, or something to inspire to. A lot of "regulars" of the elderly verity. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but it does reflect on the overall experience. Is it horrible, no. Is it a place you should check out, no. Would I go back, no. Are there better places to eat in Redlands, maybe. Also, possibly not so much. IMO, since The Farm closed Redlands has lost a really good sit down restaurant. Take it for what it's worth, just my opinion.
(3)S R.
We have been here several times. And today the meal was good overall. The reason for the average rating was the waiter, Isiah I believe his name was. After he told us about the entree specials, I asked about the pricing. He told me the Kurobuta Chop was $26. I thought that was a fair price so that's what I ordered. When I got the bill, the Kurobuta Chop was $35. I asked Isiah about the discrepancy as he picked up the bill. He told me, "I guess they gave you a bigger cut," as he walked away and really just blew it off. Well, if that really was the case, maybe he should tell the customer about the price difference before it's prepared? Or at least let the customer decide if they want to pay extra for it? He never mentioned anything about it until I brought it up. Not what I expected from this restaurant. So as he returned with my credit card, I thought maybe he would deduct it from the bill, or maybe offer us a dessert on them.....nothing. Not a word about his mistake or a remedy to make the customer feel like they didn't get shorted. I doubt the owner would be happy with how this transpired. Disappointing. Not sure if we'll be back.
(3)Brett P.
I have been in and out of this area since the mid eighties and f for the amount of times I heard the name Joe Greensleeves I am surprised I had never eaten here. I've heard that they had slipped a bit in the past but under new management/ownership have been back up to par. Wine list was was not extensive or diverse and highly marked up. Other drinks and coffees were fine. Appetizers and salads appear to excel. Tried a few that were great and hear good things about the others hope to try some soup on the next visit. Main course was solid, steaks quality and prepared well. Lobster tail was unfortunate slightly over cooked. Chocolate cake dessert was average. Overall better than I was looking forward to and I will return.
(4)Daniela F.
Best place in Redlands for a perfect night for two :) Amazing service! Lobster ravioli is what you want to order !
(5)Genevieve B.
Last night we were at Greensleeves for my sons birthday. My son chose the ribeye and requested it not be cooked in olive oil as was stipulated. The waiter responded with that was how it was cooked. I encouraged my so to try it, visualizing an even juicer steak. Upon receiving his steak, my son stared at it, then lifted it off his plate with his fork. The olive oil mixture dripped off the meat onto the puddle already on his plate. He then cut into the steak to find it was cooked medium instead of medium rare. It took awhile for anyone to return to our table, and not until the other three of us had almost finished our entrees. My son returned his steak as it was also over cooked and did not want to try another, as the rest of us had finished eating. Upon receiving and questioning our bill, we learned we would have to pay for the steak. Only after a lengthy but quiet explanation as to why we should not have to, was that amount removed from the bill. This was my third visit to Greensleeves, with the first two being five star. I am disappointed enough that next week I will try his birthday dinner elsewhere.
(2)Stephen R.
Honestly my dish was good. However the service wasn't at all. I will not be spending my money there ever again. I did not feel like the wait staff respected my party. I have never had any server argue with me or anyone in my party. I have never had a server roll his eyes, when someone in my party was allergic to the seasonal fruit offering. Their snooty condescension was disrespectful and embarrassing. You should definitely eat here if you like being served by self-important assholes.
(2)Scott S.
We just had an appalling and insulting experience at Joe Greensleeves. Going in all excited only to experience nasty, rude and sarcastic customer service. Not only was the venison gamey it was grizzly, my husbands calamari was chewy and inedible in his cioppino, the mussels and clams were starting to turn. The broth was a salty flavored water. When I asked to exchange my dish. The waiter said he would box my meal. I said I do not want this boxed ! Why in the world would one want a dish boxed that I cannot eat ? How insulting ! When I asked for an exchange, they refused and said we would be charged for the dish regardless. I wanted to exchange for another dish that I knew would be difficult to ruin. Ha ! So we left our meal sitting on the table, and paid the bill in full. What a sour taste ! We have been to many, many exquisite and fine dining restaurants around the world in the past 50 years. We have never, ever been so insulted and disappointed. Sad for us, sadder for them.
(1)Dave C.
We had lunch there yesterday. Soup of two soups is always delicious! The Caesar salad with large gulf shrimp was also very nice!
(3)Tawni N.
Amazing!!!! Fresh food prepared perfectly, good service, and top it off with a relaxing cozy environment and you have the perfect combination. If you haven't been there yet and want a nice restaurant this is the place in Redlands....trust me you won't regret trying it Also, I recommend the prosciutto wrapped figs. I was hesitant at first but man were they good :o)

My husband and I decided to try Joe Greensleeves on our 1st wedding anniversary last month. Despite long histories in Redlands, neither of us had ever been there. After this experience, I can confidently report that we will never be there again. Our reservation located, we were immediately seated, at the table closest to the kitchen entrance. Not that any racket from the kitchen would have mattered, because an amazingly obnoxious party occupied the entire middle of the dining room. Seriously. Who has a sports team party at Joe frickin' Greensleeves? Well, these people did, and I think the takeaway message here for restaurants should be: when someone calls to make a reservation in your allegedly fine dining establishment on a Saturday night, the first question you should ask is, "so, what's the occasion?" The wine list is unimpressive, unless you want to shell out in the hundreds for a bottle. They need more mid-range and inexpensive picks, especially since the food prices are so high. Please don't tell me there are no good wines that are reasonably-priced. We both know that is a lie. Confronted with a small handful of Zins I didn't recognize (psst! Lodi produces excellent mid-priced Zins!), our helpful waiter steered us to the most expensive bottle on offer. What a surprise! It was the most animated he was during our entire visit. To be fair, however, I think he was embarrassed for the increasingly loud, uncontrolled, and unruly behavior of the team partiers (the adults, tellingly, behaving much more obnoxiously than the kids), and his response was truculence to the point of being brusque. Not a warm fuzzy kind of guy. The wine, by the way, was decent, but I wouldn't choose it again. Our food arrived fairly quickly, which was nice, because we were really looking forward to leaving. The starter salads we had were average. The steak, while good, was not excellent, which was expected given the price point. The accompanying vegetation and starch was anemic, although the potatoes were pretty delicious (they put truffle oil in them!). Nothing (except maybe the potatoes, of which there were not enough) stood out on the palate. Despite really wanting to have dessert (we were trying to have our own celebration, after all), none of the choices were compelling, and oddly enough, there were no chocolate-based desserts on offer. An entire dessert cart and no chocolate! Crazy! To sum up: We went to Joe Greensleeves for our 1st anniversary thinking we would have a quiet, romantic, celebratory dinner. What actually happened was: we paid almost $200 for mediocre food and wine served to us by a generally indifferent and cranky waiter in a badly-in-need-of-updating dining room that was utterly dominated by a team party that would have been more appropriate to Shakey's. Thanks for the memories, Joe!

Let's just say the meal and the service were superb. I had the mushroom ravioli. it was hand made, fresh, and you could tell. A little pricey, but worth the occasional treat.

My wife and I had dinner there last night and I must say it was a very pleasant experience. Ambiance was wonderful and service was great. Food was top of the line and we live and usually dine in Los Angeles. I think the one thing I liked was that it was peaceful and calm not like an LA pretentious upscale place. They are willing to cater to special requests so don't be afraid to ask. Good job guys! Redlands should be proud!

Our family enjoyed a delectable Thanksgiving Dinner at Joe Greensleeves... 3.75 stars worthy. (Based on the other reviews, I was shocked, too.) For $29.99, we each enjoyed a meal of a hearty serving of turkey or ham, half a sweet potato, a bit of mashed potatoes, well-seasoned green beans, stuffing with sausage, fresh cranberry sauce, and a choice of in-house made pumpkin or apple-pecan pie. My all-dark-meat turkey was incredibly moist, as was the white meat for the weirdos who preferred it (dark meat is so much better, people!). The stuffing was a bit disappointing, as it was a little dry and had sausage (ew). The pièce de résistance was by far their pumpkin pie - it made my taste buds sing; pair their rich, strong coffee with the pie, and voilà , near perfection. Everything tasted really good, even better than at some family Thanksgiving meals I've endured. We especially appreciated how willing they were to substitute for the vegetarians in the group: Instead of turkey/ham, the kitchen prepared a nice vegetable risotto. One downside was their portions were overall small, though that could've been so it all could fit on the plate. The decor of the restaurant was quaint, very bucolic English countryside (read: brick walls, maple wood, dark green fabrics, brass), with whimsical touches such as half a sailboat hull mounted on the wall, along with wine corks dotting the curved sides of the ceiling. The restaurant itself is small and cozy, with a large fireplace on the middle right-side wall. Our server, Tammie, was incredibly jovial, professional and attentive. Top-notch service. I have absolutely no idea how this restaurant is any other day of the week, and based on the other reviews, I might be a little hesitant to try it. However, if it's anything like the delightful meal we experienced at Thanksgiving, I would definitely come back!

We needed to organize a highbrow company dinner event at a restaurant close to our colleagues. It was suggested that a local favorite is Joe Greensleeves, so we went ahead and booked a large reservation. The manager was very accommodating to our budget and very communicative. The meeting room was set up well, and everything was served in a timely manner. The food was really good, but I've had better at other high-end restaurants. The sirloin was delicious, but there's still that one piece of meat that I had at a Coco's that will haunt any restaurant that sells steak to me. Overall a good experience for groups, with good food and good service.

The food and service always amazing. We enjoy Greensleeves at least twice a month. The lobster ravioli is heaven.

We went here for our 25th wedding anniversary. From the moment we walked in the door we just loved this restaurant. Old school charm. Our dinner was delicious! I had the Cioppino and my husband had the Scottish Salmon Filet and both we spectacular! We had a wonderful evening for our special evening. We will be back. Also the oil and dipping bread is just down right yummy! Make it a special evening and give this restaurant a try!!

Not a huge fan. The price is high, but lunch prices are not too bad. I ordered the ravioli and it was just meh. Skip this if you're veggie. I heard the meat was great.

You can read other reviews about the ambiance but this one solely about the food..... My wife and I went just for dessert and left VERY dissatisfied. The creme brûlée was like soup, not firm at all, and the sugary crust was almost non existent. Next was a key lime cake with coconut, just ok. The flavor was there but the cake was very dry. I also looked at the wine list and it was off the charts expensive. $18 for a 20yr port wine? Outdated menu of food, good selection of desserts that just aren't good and overpriced wine list. If they get a new chef and menu and some new peoplein there it might be ok down the line. As it stands now I'll go somewhere else. Try Citrone or Artisan farm foods or even gourmet pizza shoppe

Last night we decided to try Greensleeves, and I thought it was pretty good. I had already eaten but wouldn't let that stop me from stuffing my face. Obviously I started with a nice cold drink, vodka on the rocks and my friend had scotch on the rocks. The drink helped perk my appetite up so I ordered the following. 1.) Pissilo chili stuffed with wild boar, served in ragu tomato sauce. Excellent 2.) Rib eye (rare) with two fried eggs on top, mashed potato's, carrots, broccoli. Tasty 3.) Chicken Alfredo, looked good but I didn't taste it. Service was fine except they used my credit cart to charge another tables $800.00 bill to it, hopefully they did a re credit properly.

Awesome place to go to dinner with the Hubby:) Thanks for a good night. Love the Clam Chowder soup.

Went here for a professional meeting a few weeks ago. Food was good but the service was really bad. The blonde/ light hair waiter was clearly overwhelmed and was very forgetful. We had 3 people at our table- one never got the diet coke that was ordered- we were always 3 steps behind. In fact our table had 3 people with only two menus given. Not a big deal for a low budget place but for a place that charges the prices that they do I would expect more waiters per person and better service. I was excited to go there- but my experience left a sour taste in my mouth.

Came here with the in laws the other night to celebrate a birthday. While I have driven and walked by this place plenty of times, I was never really impressed enough to try it out considering all the options in the area. Fortunately for me this was the choice of the birthday boy. Their menu leans italian with its good selection of pastas, but the rest is just good comfort type food. The wife had to get the burrata with tomato, arugula, and prosciutto and I went for their house made sausage. The wife's burrata was tasty, but the too firm and under ripe tomatoes diminished the dish. The tart dressing on the arugula helped balance the richness of the cheese. My sausage was basically just a spicy italian sausage, but its coarse texture gave it a bit of uniqueness to make the simple dish worthwhile. I'd definitely recommend this as something to pass around for everyone to try though. Awww, gnocchi, I just can't help but order you can I. Fortunately their preparation here was spectacular to make me forget about my recent overpriced gnocchi at Whist. They were fairly large size dumplings, but were so light with just the right amount of chew that made them just heavenly. They came in a rich cream sauce and with a few scattered slices of smoked duck. The duck was so good with a rosy complexion and smoky flavor I would've confused it with ham if I didn't know any better. My only complaint is that I wish I would've had more of the duck (or maybe just had it diced instead) to give me more bites to combine the flavors of the duck and the gnocchi. The wife's mushroom ravioli were pretty good with a large amount of quality mushrooms. It even came with a respectable (although not large) amount of ravioli that she even managed to take some home. The father in law let me try some of his dinosaur sized 22 oz bone in rib eye. The flavor of it was great with a nice bit of salty and peppery and the texture was super tender. The brother in law got the rib eye toppped with egg and truffle and boy did it look good. Not a whole lot of truffle to be had, but probably just enough to notice. Wish I would've gotten a taste of it if I hadn't been so focused on my own dish. Last up was dessert. We ordered a few to pass around which included a chocolate cake, apple pie, and a pecan pie. The pecan definitely stood out amongst the rest. In the end our bill came out to around $300, which although we brought our own wine (which I think they had a $15 corkage fee), with all the apps and desserts for around $50 a person I'd say was pretty reasonable for such a quality meal. Obviously not something for every weekend, but easily affordable for those special occasions. The service throughout our dinner was exceptional. Attentive and friendly, but not overbearing. We had brought a couple of bottles from home to drink and they were glad to open them and even decanted one after some issues with the cork. The cozy atmosphere is also great to enjoy a relaxed long meal to share conversation over. Definitely a great quiet date place if you're looking for one. While this place won't wow you with their ingredients or presentation, the technique and flavors will win you over.

New ownership has done a great job. Lunch is a great value.

An allegory for Redlands itself: a shell of its former self, suffering from an identity crisis. Hey, who snuck the chili powder into the olive oil, so that it will help to obliterate any last vestige of flavor that the upcoming meal may possibly possess? But at least there were whole roasted cloves of garlic to bomb the palate. Warm, sour Sonoma Cutrer for $12 a glass from the tired, pedantic wine list. "Lobster" ravioli with some kind of textured sea creature on the outside and canned crab meat on the inside, all in a gloppy sauce with, oh, some chopped parsley dumped on it. And including the whole roasted cloves of garlic to try to cover any remaining seafood flavor, of which there was little. The second star is only for the "Greensleeves" the signature dish of ground venison stuffed in a pasilla pepper. It was delicious, though now cheesed up, and surrounded by some canned tomato sauce with a couple of chopped bell peppers and, of course, whole roasted cloves of garlic and, oh, some chopped parsley dumped on it. If you are still desperate for some flavor, you can order some dessert: some warm ice cream or cold pie or gloppacious conglomeration thereof. But where are the whole roasted cloves of garlic? Let's use some imagination here! Imagination, indeed, seems to be a thing of the past. Lots of awards line the lovely brick walls, alas it seems the last one was from 2002. I can't believe I'm saying this (okay, yes I can), but I found myself looking wistfully across the street at the Sizzler. I managed to get out having dropped $70 for the aforementioned. The recent change in ownership seems to have breathed an emphysemic breath into what used to be a shining pearl along I-10. For the sake of the employees, I will be sorry to see this place close down. But hey, maybe the Sizzler is hiring.

We went here for an anniversary dinner, prepared to spend a little extra cash for a great meal. Great is not what we got. I started with Gorganzola salad which was almost inedible. I should have sent it back but decided to just eat it. My dinner was a ribeye with an herb sauce that tasted only of rosemary. Too much Rosemary! The meat itself was tasty, however the mashed potatoes on the side were not good at all. I tasted a hint of truffle, which I hate, and the texture was sticky and over done. The "lava" cake for dessert was a terrible waste of money. After hearing the microwave go off in the kitchen, our cake came out. There was no lava inside! It was completly tastless and dry. I've heard good and bad about this place and maybe it was an off night, however, I will keep my $150 and take my business elsewhere in the future.

I love this place. I love this place because it's has all the makings of an excellent fine dining restaurant. The waitors/waitresses know their food, they practice superb service without sticking their nose at you. I feel, from just the service alone, I got what I paid for. The food is 4 stars. Out of the 3 times I've been to Joe Greensleeves, their food has been consistently delicious. I recommend their appetizer "Greensleeve", it's fantastic and unique ,we make sure to get it every time. I think, from my experience, the reason why there's low ratings on the food is because people are expecting that the food be the best in the Nation, like the best Porterhouse that they ever tasted! Well, it's unfortunate that this place doesn't have 1 or 2 items that will BLOW YOUR MIND! However Joe Greensleeves does have is excellent product, and they ARE working with ingredients like truffle and putting out some awesome dishes! And I have a feeling that some people that go into JG don't understand what goes into fine dining food! During my first visit to Joe's Greensleeves, as I was waiting for my appetizer and I ordered, I believe it was the ribeye with truffle, I unavoidably heard this woman with her date deplored "what's in this ribeye?! It tastes like feet." I almost couldn't not contain my laughter knowing that the musty flavor was coming from the truffle, good thing that she was not facing me. So, I have to say yes everyone has their preferences and maybe this not a Michelin star restaurant, but some people just don't understand fine dining afterall we're not in the south of France- Redlands, for not being metropolis, is very blessed to have a little slice of fine dining in it's backyard! Joe's Greensleeves has a wonderful menu with good prices for FINE DINING! And the staff are top notch. At most, maybe the dishes could be updated to give it a more modern feel and revamp some flavors that have gotten a little dull over the years. That is why I give it a 4 out of 5.

I've been to Joe Greensleeves a few times for meetings with our department. I would never go here if I didn't have to. The food is really just "eh" and it is way over-priced. Their "tale of two soups" (I think that's the name of it) is pretty decent (they put two soups in one plate and because of their different consistencies they "separate") and I had their tuna steak once and it was good. But everything else is pretty mediocre. They are also super slow with groups (not sure how they are regularly) when in reality they should be well-oiled machines with groups (our hospital departments regularly use them for dinner meetings).

This is the second time we've visited this little local restaurant, and had the same waitress - who remembered us after about 5 months! We got 2 items from the specials - soft-shelled crab in beer batter as an appetizer and risotto with a great variety of sea-food. And I had duck a l'orange off the menu. That used to be my favorite for my birthday when I was a child - which I'm not any more. With delicious apple tartin for dessert. And one of the few places that does a latte after dinner (I know that's not really when it's for, but it's a nice nightcap!) I wouldn't call it Italian, but cosmopolitan in a small college town.

Always wanted to try this place since my parents went there 20 years ago. I remeber they had to wait weeks to get a reservation. Times have changed and it was extremely easty to get in. We had a party of 6 adults and 2 chidren. Our waiter was nice but a little confusing at times. I loved the salmon crepes, my mushroom ravoli was divine, the fruit salad is my fav, and the chocolate cake was a great finish. However, the bean salad was horid. The rest of the table seemed pleased with their dishes of elk, swordfish, and duck. The filet had a strange sweet glaze, the ahi was too spicy, and the bruschetta was plain. Overall, glad I got to give it a try but won't be holding my breath until the next trip.

What's that sour taste on my tounge?? No, the food tastes alright so that can't be it. Is it my date? No way, she's a fantastic girlfriend. I think I remembered to take a shower....O wait, it's our waiter. What a jackass. For some reason he gave us a cold shoulder treatment. I knew something was wrong when he took our drinks. Waiter:"Would you like some wine tonight?" Me: No thank you, I think I'll have a beer instead. What beers do you have? Waiter: What do you want? Me: Uh.... What do you have? Lovely isn't it? Maybe because it was Valentine's Day and he decided he wanted to be moody because he had no date. Then again, I felt nice and decided he was just having a bad day. So I eavsdrop on his other tables and he treats them with cheer and good service. Then he hits another asian table. Same horrible treatment to them. A light bulb went off, he hates asians. I know there is not a huge population of asians in redlands eating at this restaurant but at least give us some respect. And to top it off, there were crumbs all over my date's seat and there was a dead bug inside my water glass. The food wasn't exciting either. The egg drop soup was horrible, tastes like the one you buy at Panda express. Calamari? Chewy, unbreaded, the sauce was tasty however. For my main entree, I had the mushroom ravioli while my girlfriend had the salmon. The mushroom ravioli was okay. WAAY too heavy on the cream and butter. To top it off it is topped with bacon, a heart attack waiting to happen. My girlfriends salmon wasn't bad. She didn't enjoy it but I thought it was pretty standard. Again...a cream sauce on the salmon. What's with the chef's infatuation with cream? The GOOD part of the meal was the bread, busgirl, and decor. She was very attentative... more so than the waiter. At the end of the meal, he didn't even bother to show us the desserts as he did with every other non-asian table. I just took my check, and gave him a small tip. I will NEVER come back here. Regarding prices, food quality, and service... I recommend you not to come here also. Farm Artisan foods on state street is a far superior option. 1 star for the decor and busgirl, 0.5 stars for the decor and bread.

dined last night with 8 others (in the entire room). Very good service very average meal. Pork was tasteless in a fluid sauce; sea bass portion was small (try Captain Jack's in Sunset Beach if you're inclined to desire sea bass); salad featured stemmed spinach (spend a few seconds and help the diner) but desserts looks yummy. Second and last try for me.

I'd heard this is one of the more decent places to eat in Redlands. Came here on a Saturday night with a group of 6. There were only 2 other tables occupied in the restaurant - maybe that should have been a clue. :) The ambiance is cheesy, but ok, and the fireplace was a nice touch. I really don't mind what a place looks like if the food is good, but I was still surprised on how tacky the inside of the restaurant was considering how pricey the menu is. They also have a really limited beer selection, and none of the local brews - no Hangar 24 :( The wine selection is pretty good, but the waiter was not knowledgeable or helpful about wine pairings. If you order appetizers be forewarned that they are individual size servings only, definitely not large enough to table share. I ordered the $40+ filet mignon. I was NOT impressed; I'm only an amateur, but I can cook a better steak. My friend ordered the salmon and it was waaay too dry. The gnocchi and lasagna special looked ok but not work $20!! Dessert was pretty good, especially the coconut cake. The worst part was when we got the check. $400+ for 6 people, which is ok considering how much we ordered, but the problem came when we asked the waiter if we could split the bill over several cards. He said this would be EXTREMELY inconvenient for him. At this time there was only one other table of 4 people in the restaurant! We asked him to do it anyway. He sighed loudly and grabbed the check. About 15 minutes later he came back and literally threw individual bills down in front of each of us. We hadn't asked him to split it by person! The sad thing is, he didn't even have the bills correct - wrong appetizers, drinks, desserts on our check. When one couple tried to pay with American Express he threw the card back on the table and said Greensleeves doesn't accept AE. I have rarely seen a ruder waiter! Overall, food was OK, probably not worth the price but I probably would have come back. But because of the waiter, I don't think any of us will ever patronize this place again.
(2)Deep S.
Not bad, not great. I started off with the Lamb and Wild Boar sausage with red sauce which was above average in taste, below average in quantity. For lunch I had the Seafood Taglioni with White Sauce which was just OK. The service was very slow, it took nearly 30 minutes to get our meals.

I really really wanted to like this place. There are so few dining options in Redlands. I was hoping this was going to be a great steak place, but after 3 tries... I give. So the decor is outdated and kitchy, I can live with that. BUT, for a place that is known for its red meat, I was shocked and disturbed at the food delivered to my table. If the food were good, paying the exorbitant prices would be more pallitable. However, the steak ordered by my husband was absolutely terrible. I kid you not, I think we probably would have gotten a better piece of meat at Denny's! It was tough and flavorless. Perhaps the economy is affecting every one, were they trying to get rid of old meat? The vegetables appeared to be store-bought and microwaved. I will never go there again, too expensive and too terrible! Sorry Joe Greensleeves. Go to Caprice Cafe, FAR FAR better.

Now under ownership of the Briggs family, if you haven't been here since the restaurant changed hands, give it a try. It literally is the best kept secret in town for a lovely setting, good service, and fine food at a more than fair price at lunch time. It is perfect for a quiet luncheon meeting or a small celebration among friends. Dinner, too, is excellent and the setting is ideal for any special occasion. The soup of two soups is always a treat, the greensleeves are supposed to be a starter, but work for a delicious main course, too. A favorite among many our friends is the lobster ravioli, although my preference is the mushroom variety. The wine list is extensive with many good selections and a decent array of price points. There is a small dining room upstairs available for private gatherings. We have availed ourselves of that space for both business and pleasure and have always had a very attentive Tammy at our service to cheerfully anticipate and meet our needs.

Went here once for my mothers birthday. Appeared to be a "fancy" place. The prices were steep and they took forever to do anything there. The food was alright but i will most likely pass next time.

well...methinks matt p isnt the most mature yelper around. not too nice to say that my husband is a "pussy" because he didnt send his old, $42 elk filet back. (oh wait, im sorry--that was included in a personal email he sent me, along with suggestion that i must have never eaten at a fine dining establishment, because my review of joe greensleeves so bad) Apparently some of us around here lack reading comprehension as well, since i believe i also think this restaurant is tacky since they dont know how to remove transfer sheets from their desserts. Do i smell a relative of the owner?? Guess we're not allowed to have opinions on our experiences around here...

This place makes one of the best Ribeye Chop's in the Country!! It's about $80 and worth every penny (as it's large enough for 3 people)! Don't pay attention to the reviews from a spiteful girl or the guy who bumped heads with a new waiter. This place is top-notch for steaks, chops, & wines. I've been here about 12-13 times and NEVER had a bad waiter. There is a newer 20-something blond kid that doesn't know what good manners are (BTW he's absolutely harmless & doesn't mean to be rude). Seriously, this guy is a dumb jock and takes a SMALL AMOUNT of candor to turn this guy into a solid server. Also, the private rooms upstairs are great for parties of 10-15!!
(5)Ryan G.
Cozy, classy, fairly upscale dining in downtown Redlands... not too many places like this around (if I'm wrong, please let me know!). I've only had the steaks here, which my tongue told me were on par with Ruth's Chris, and Citrone next door... but not quite reaching the curious perfection of Fleming's (yes, I know it's a chain, but they cook 'em right!). Service here was excellent, as well. The biggest downside is the price. Prepare to drop $45 (pre-tax) on a rib-eye or other market-priced items (most entrees were $20-35, though), and plenty more on the wine... they have a great list so it's hard to say no. Oh, yeah, and your date's meal, this is a great place to bring a date for an upscale meal. Mine told me she liked the food, but it was something outside the Kingdom Animalia (the meal, not my date), so I wasn't really that interested. In summary, it's nice to have good food close to home, but I've had better for the price.
(4)Harry K.
I have been to this place a few times, and I must say the last time was the most disappointing. The prices here are very high, similar to any other high class steak house (i.e. Ruth Chris) and they tasted great, but as the first yelper writes, the service was awful. Not what one would expect when paying top dollar. It was easy to notice this when I ordered a soda along with the wine our table ordered. It took about half an hour for the bottle of wine to come, and my soda was left behind. After asking twice I finally received it, and even though I requested a refill, I was left parched. The waiter was very rude indeed, and seemed to gain more and more attitude as our meal continued. That will be my last visit to Joe Greensleeves.
(2)Jason S.
So many dining options in Redlands. This place has a nice ambiance, and an interesting selection of menu items. It's good, it's pretty well staffed, it's comfortable and cozy, the win selection is decent if you're into that. But there's just something about it that isn't quite there -- I think it's the options of Citrone, Farm and Caprice, but Joe G's just doesn't stand out in that list of choices if you're trying to decide where to go for a nice meal.
(4)
