Right away we were disappointed when they said that they had "run out" of the chicken satay appetizers (my wife's fave). If you go during dinner expect dishes to be very pricey and the portions to be ridiculously small. For example, we had the pumpkin curry seafood dish for $11.00 and to me it qualifies as a single serving dish, rather than something to share with others. We also ordered green beans with pork and specifically asked for the spices to be left out (5 year old doesn't eat anything that's too spicey), but sure enough they didn't take us seriously and added the chili peppers anyway. Overall the flavor of the dishes we ordered was really good, but too bad it doesn't last long because the portions are so small. To me, you get very little bang for your buck. Also, food took very long to come out (even appetizers and soup) and it wasn't even a busy night (Sunday night at 8pm). If I decide to eat here again, it will probably be for lunch since prices are cheaper during that time. The ambiance of the restaurant is great, but too bad it's situated right next door to a liquor store.

Over priced for the portion size. Nothing to special about this place

Very flavorful food. Decor is very nice although you can't tell that from outside. We went on V-Day so it was crowded and a little slow, but that was okay. The food was delicious and the owners/staff were super nice. We loved the peanut dipping sauce that came with fresh spring rolls (item 1 on the menu). Tom Yum Gai soup was excellent. Pad Thai was yummy, and the pork dish (can't remember what it was called) had spot-on spices. Good value at $40 for both of us.

The food here is excellent and very unexpected, given that the restaurant is in a strip mall (smack dab between a liquor store and pizza parlor). The fried pumpkin with sweet and sour dipping sauce is unique and surprisingly good. Other highlights include the catfish and mixed seafood dishes, as well as the fried rice with pineapple. It's really light, with a hint of yellow curry flavor, and the raisins and cashew nuts really add something. The female servers are very friendly in general, but the restaurant has not figured out how to handle a full restaurant (only 8 or so tables) with only one server and the pretty steady stream of to go orders they seem to receive. Go early in the night to get better service.

If you're like me, I find the food offerings around Pinole/Hercules to be pretty standard faire. Having lived in San Francisco, I was surrounded by small, one-off restaurants with great food, and not the numerous fast food joints so common in the suburbs. So it was to my delight that I found Thai Spice. I normally trek out to Albany or Berkeley for Thai food, but no longer as GREAT Thai food is available in my own backyard. Its in a strip mall, but don't let that be a turn off. Once you leave your car and enter the restaurant, the tackyness of being located in a strip mall disappears. I highly recommend the Pad Thai - as good, if not better than what I've had in Berkeley. Moo Yang was also good as the chicken was very tender (but I was expecting pork Moo Yang). Check them out and I hope that they are the beginning of a food renaissance in our food-starved area.

Really good food (especially the curries and they have brown rice!). The owners are nice and cheerful. Traditional decor. Reasonable prices. Only downside (if you care) is that it's in a strip mall.

I've been good here for almost two years now. I have yet to try anything on this menu that isn't top notch. The pork yellow curry and the vermicelli special are personal favorites of mine. Everyone in this place is amazing. I love how nice all the ladies are. The food is very consistent and you can make some things super spicy or leave them plain and both are amazing. I can't recommend enough wether you sit down or take out if you're in pinole proper this should be your thai food spot

Review based off of todays service. Discovered this resturant couple months ago and have been here about five times since. The food has been great each time which I love. Sadly, my service was not great today. I came in during lunch time and there was two ladies (one petite and one on the heavier side) handling the front of house but no one ever came to check on us nor refill our water glasses. They gave everyone soup as a starter but us. They walked around helping other patrons but we were invisible to them. I really liked this place but if my service is ever like this again, I may not be returning. It would be a shame though because I really like their food. All patrons should be treated the same. I understand lunch time is usually busy, but we were the 3rd table that walked in. The 4th table walked in 10 minutes after and got the water and soup immediately when I came in 10 minutes prior and got only water.

I don't see what the hoopla is about. Maybe they had an off night but we had mediocre food and lackluster service which is disappointing because the first time I ate here with a friend I remember thinking their food was quite good. All of the sauces were pale shadows of the usually robust and flavorful sauces that are distinctive to Thai cuisine. The peanut sauce was bland and the sauce for the rolls was thin and watery. The yellow curry we had was just plain unappetizing looking. It looked like an indistinguishable serving of slop. $63.22 (pre-tip) for dinner with water and tea for 2 people

I've been going to Thai Spice for the past two years and I can easily say that it is my favorite Thai food establishment in the entire Bay Area. I am a regular and the staff treat me with such care and kindness--they've even offered to sit down with me during their break and share a meal when I was running late to pick up an order! They know me by name and they know my favorite dishes--yellow curry chicken, chicken fried rice, and Pad Thai. They always cater to my allergies to wheat, soy, and peanuts, and the food is consistently as delicious as their service. They are the best!

Normally call in and pick up due to the crowd, but definitely worth every bite! It's good to get there when they open right at 5pm. Choice of seating. The chicken curry(yellow) is so good! Not to mention the fresh shrimp spring rolls. I always look forward to eating Thai food from here when I am craving Thai food.

Oh i am very hesitant to try different things but the crispy chicken with the sauce and white rice is super awesome.Just make sure you ask for extra sauce. The place is decorated nicely.it is small with dim lighting. The waitresses were attentive.

Was in town and decided on Thai Spice due to location. I ordered a chicken pad thai to go and was super disappointed. The dish lacked flavor and portions of the noodles were still stuck together. The chicken smelled a little funny so I didn't eat any of it. Definitely not worth the money. The ladies were nice, though.

So... I realize that they have specific times that they are open... and I loved all the food there, I must admit that we felt really rushed, because we had reservations at 2:00 pm, and they close at 3:00 pm. I hope they felt that our bill for 7 adults and 3 kids that came to $186 was worth their while. Got a chance to try the Beef Panang Curry... and loved it. I always think if you make your curry thick and flavorful, it ranks up there as one of the best.. and this was. Also tried a little bite of the Pad Thai with Shrimp, Pineapple Fried Rice, and BBQ Chicken and all were so yummy. I will definitely return. Main disappointment is that we all wanted to order dessert, and they said they couldn't because they were already closed. Never knew a business to turn down business... but oh well. Hopefully we will be able to make it in earlier next time so we could try their dessert too.

The service was a little slow, but there was only one waitress (on a Thursday around 7). She was good and did her best, so good job to her! They lost a star for taking so long to bring out the food. It took a good half hr..makes it seem like they have one stove/grill top back there and cook only one or two dishes at a time. I got mango sticky rice and it was the best I've had. Worth the wait I guess... My bf got kasoy and he liked it, but I didn't (you need to like bean paste). His cousins got angel wing (stuffed chicken wing), which was very small, and pad Thai. The pad Thai was too sweet.

I wasn't happy with the service. We walked in and nobody came out to seat us. My girlfriend just grabbed some menus and we sat ourselves. I was equally unimpressed with the food. I got the Pra Ram (I think it's called)...chicken with peanut sauce, but the chicken felt over cooked and almost like it was boiled. The sauce didn't taste very good either. I'll pass next time.

This place is actually pretty good for a small town. I've been here quite a few times and really like their pad Thai. Their food in general is really good. It has the right amount of heat that one would expect for Thai food. However, adding prawns to your dish costs $3, which is overpriced for how much they actually give you. Today, I ordered the pad ke mow with prawns and received four very small prawns that definitely did not amount to $3 worth. Other than that, the flavor and amount of food per serving is worth the cost of the dish. They have really good and quick service. The staff is friendly and always appears happy to help. The venue is nicely decorated with artwork and figures, which make for great ambience in the restaurant. I enjoy getting food from here if I'm in the mood for Thai, and I'd definitely recommend it to those in the area.

We are so glad that we found one of our favorite food (Thai) in Pinole area. We have eaten here twice, and so far, all of them were good. We like their fish and/or shrimp cooked in their special sauce. Yum! Also, they have the Best service!

This is a great thai restaurant in a random spot. It is my favorite in the area. The staff is friendly and they are family owned. Menu items that are my top choices are: - yellow chicken curry - fried calamari appetizer - fried duck - papaya salad - pad Thai with shrimp - Thai tea I love Thai food. If you're in the area and have a craving, this will sure enough quench it.

I stumbled upon this place as I was at Peets across the street. My mom and I wanted to get some Thai food and we yelped a couple of nearby places and we decided to go with Thai Spice. When we first walked in, we were seated pretty quickly and provided our menus and water. I wanted to try the papaya salad and nam kao as they seemed quite popular among others who have dined here before. We went with the Papaya salad and Tom Yum soup with shrimp to start us off and a Nam Kao and Red Chicken Curry for our main course. I think my mom and I chose too many dishes with a similar sour taste. The papaya salad was good! The Tom Yum was ok as I've had better elsewhere, the Nam Kao was worth trying but I probably wouldn't get it again. It didn't have enough of the savory taste I wanted but the Red Curry Chicken was good. It was just the right amount of spice and coconut milk flavor that I like. Overall, service was a bit slow as there seems to be only two waitresses who serve, take orders and handle the checks. If I was in the area I would probably come back but would try some different items.

I actually love this place. This is my go to Thai food aside from Blue Bay Thai in Richmond. I love their pumpkin and panang curry, goong ka Bork and crispy chicken. Those are the same things I order. I should explore my palate more. There was one time that I came here that they were a little off with the dishes. Asked for extra spicy with my curry and I didn't taste even a kick. But that was just one time. Every other time, their dishes are great and service is always impeccable .

The last few times we've had takeout, it just wasn't as good as it was when were first started going. The owner/chef has been out of the country. I will give them the benefit of the doubt and only reduce the rating by one star until we try it again I still plot how to get the duck off S's plate on to mine. I think we need a small scale to be sure we are sharing the food equally.

The yellow chicken curry! I mean... The yellow chicken curry. Lastly, THE YELLOW CHICKEN CURRY! All together anything I order or a friend orders is always amazing. They never fail to send your tastebuds whirling through nirvana.

This restaurant was such a nice surprise! It's hidden in a dinky little strip plaza that I haven't been to in almost 15 years. I tend to avoid this area of PV Rd just because the plaza across the street is a hellhole of traffic. Came here because my mom wanted to come here for dinner. Jeez mom, why have you been making me take you to the Thai place in Rodeo all these years when this place existed?! Came in on a Sunday evening right before the dinner rush hit so thank goodness we didn't have to wait. This place was completely full and all tables taken, albeit it's quite a small place (with very nice decor and wood paneling on the walls!). The food came out super slow and we were waiting for quite awhile. The waitress lady was super apologetic about it though so I didn't mind it so much and also because the food ended up being delicious. I got the Pad Thai. Beware, the pad thai here is VERY tangy..which I have discovered is exactly the way I like it! :D Big enough portion that I couldn't finish it and had to take the rest home. I don't remember what my mom got (sorry mom...) but she has been here multiple times so i'm sure most things on the menu are also very yums. Also got a Pad See Ew to go to take back to the bf in SJ. He was SO surprised that I brought back GOOD Thai food from middle of nowhere Pinole/Hercules. I will definitely be returning! This has become my favorite place to get Pad Thai! Fingers crossed the big tangy flavor was not a fluke because they were busy LOL

I was really disappointed to find, once I drove home 45 minute away, that the seafood pineapple rice barely had any seafood. In fact, it literally had: 3 shrimp, 3 calamari and 1 scallop (yes, only 1!!!) . The amount of rice was very generous, the food was very tasty, but it was totally unacceptable that such an expensive item had so little seafood in it. If I wanna juts east a plate of rice I can do that with my rice cooker :( The Pad Se-ew was tasty and was a generous amount, for a to-go container... but at $12 was pricey as well, in my opinion. Most Pad se-ew is $8.95. Then, we were charged $1 more for the ice tea... which I wanted with little ice, instead the ice was filling the entire container. So I paid $4.31 for a thai icd tea?!!! The food was tasty, but they literally CHEATED us on the amount of food.... if there was a bureau to complain to, I'd do it.

Decided to come here on a Friday night after getting tired of looking for parking in downtown San Francisco. Driving back to Sacramento we stopped in here for the high ratings. First thing we noticed was we were not even asked for our order for 20+ minutes even with our menu's closed and put down. So finally they take our order and we end up waiting an hour for all our food, yes A HOUR!!!! To top it off they forgot to bring the rice when we were waiting 10mins after getting our meals. Not once were we asked how we were our when our order would be coming. The meals were given 15-20mins apart so some got cold. The food was good but the service was so bad I didn't enjoy my food at all. Definitely not coming back for dine in again.

Consistently great food. Wait times can be a bit long during lunch and dinner rush hours because they have a tiny kitchen, but the food is well worth the wait. Excellent service, my family and I have become close on the owners.

  • Master B.

Food is good but customer service is a 1 because when u wait 1 hour for food to go and spend $40 you would think they would want to give you some extra sauce to keep you happy! I know when there are a lot of people it takes longer that's why the 40 min wait was ok but to take 20 more min and not want to keep the customer happy by giving up 25 cents of sauce is crazy to me!!!

  • Alex H.

I love this place! I come here during my work breaks for lunch maybe once or twice a week. The service is great and the food is outstanding! The servers are very friendly and accommodating. My favorite dishes are probably the Crispy Chicken and the Pad Him-Ma-Pan. I like to change up my orders a lot and mess with them and no matter what I add or take away from a dish it always tastes good! The only downside is that sometimes during busy lunchtimes it takes a little bit longer than ideal.

Great food and great staff! We went to Thai Spice in Pinole for a 40th birthday dinner tonight, and our party had 14 people, including 6 children under the age of 10. From the moment we called for the reservation, the staff was pleasant and accommodating and said they would definitely be able to handle a party of our size. Though none of us had been there before, we took a leap of faith that the yelp reviews would be accurate, and they were! We ate a variety of appetizers including the chicken wings, calamari, prawn sticks, egg rolls, and spring rolls and they were all excellent. We also enjoyed the seafood soup, fried rice with crabmeat special, rib special, traditional pad Ka brow, pad Thai and vegetarian red curry- all of which were scrumptious! The staff was so helpful, patient and courteous, insisting that we feel relaxed and at home, helping to rearrange the tables, add and change orders, and even taking a large family portrait for us. All of our orders were correct and enjoyable, and served with a smile. The staff also stored our large birthday cake in their fridge and brought it out with candles when we requested (and even sang with us!). I should add that this was a Saturday night and the restaurant, though small, was full. So, their accommodation on a busy night was even more special. For a nice, quaint Thai experience right here in the Hercules-Pinole area with excellent food for all types of palates, this is the spot!

Nose dive! I've been eating at different Asian food places around the world for 20 years and I've never gotten so little food for so much money. This place used to be good but they've raised their rates and shrunk their servings... and their wait is longer than anybody should have to wait for food. They don't prep anything before your meal... it's like you have to wait for them to chop every single vegetable and maybe even clean the kitchen before they cook your meal. the attitude and energy around the place feels like they hate white people, for example my mother is constantly made to wait and her orders seem pushed to the back making her the last person to be served -- seems a little bit more than coincidence.

Love Love Love this place. It's on my way up HWY 80, and what a great find at the Pinole Valley Exit. I first tried the spicy eggplant with pork. The pork was cut perfectly and it was very tender. Spicy...yes. I went back a few days later and had the green curry chicken. It was also very, very good. I ran out of rice, there was so much thick and creamy green curry. My friend had the Kao Soy, a Laotian pork soup which was very tasty as well.

Yikes! Had a craving for Thai on a Sunday night and decided to call in a order. Since I've never been here before, I decided to stick with some basic Thai dishes. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and Fresh Spring Rolls. It's nearly impossible to mess this up right??? Wrong! I'd describe the Pad Thai as being overly greasy with a really dark color to it....not consistent with any Pad Thai I've ever eaten. The chicken was nearly nonexistent with tiny pieces mixed in. The Fresh Spring rolls was basically tons of iceberg lettuce wrapped in rice paper. We didn't realize they had shrimp in them until the roll was half eaten. Once we got to the bottom we found tiny pieces cut up. I've never seen a restaurant skimp so hard on meat! The "Peanut Sauce" for the spring rolls was watery with a odd curry/peanut flavor. Location is super convenient, but I'll def be making the 5-mile trek (the other direction) for some better options!

My sisters have been to this restaurant many times, either dine in or take out. See her review under Michelle L. We went during lunch time on a Friday. Luckily we were seated right away because they seemed to be very busy during that hour. My sister warned me that their service is quite slow so we should order quick. We ordered duck noodle soup, pad kee mao, green chicken curry, papaya salad (spicy- not as spicy as I would like), pad kra gaw, sticky rice and regular rice. We were surprised that the food didn't take as long as we expected. I liked the duck noodle soup, the chicken curry and the papaya salad. The pad kee mao looked too bland and didn't have color to the dish. Service: the ladies were nice. They gave my niece and nephew kiddie plates and cups. My niece was super excited because it was a princess plate. This restaurant is in a small plaza with parking spaces but it can be challenging. I guess you can park across the street where the Trader Joe's is at. I definitely would order from this place again.

I seldom give 5 stars, but this restaurant deserves it! Great customer service and excellent Thai food to match. I'm Korean American so I love spicy foods. I asked the server to make me cry from the spiciness of my Pad Thai. Though the spice wasn't what I wanted since I'm crazy and enjoy pain from spice (it's a Korean thing), one kind server brought me fresh spice, chili, peanuts, and peppers to go with my meal. They really go above and beyond at this restaurant even still when they're busy with the lunch hour rush. Don't forget to tip them, they really deserve it here.

Great food! Friendly staff. Everything we ordered was delish. Ordered Papaya salad its lemony and just enough tang to it. I was really surprised with the chicken dishes. Since we have our kids with us we ordered both BBQ and crispy chicken. It was so tender and juicy. The BBQ has a subtle BBQ grill taste with a nice Asian style marinade and goes well with the sauce. The crispy style was very juicy and very tender inside yet crispy outside. Definitely recommend this place and will comeback again. 4 stars is for food takes a bit longer to come out but not that bad.

Ordered Red curry, Thai Spicy Wings, and Crab Fried rice. The wings were cooked perfectly with a very tangy sauce. The rice is amazing and the red curry was pleasantly mild for me. I definitely will come back.

In small towns like Pinole, you get slim pickings of restaurants and the ones you get to choose from can be hit or miss. Friends recommended Thai Spice, which luckily ended up being a bit more of a hit than a miss. My review is based on ordering dinner take out from there. Dishes sampled included: -Som Tum (green papaya salad): Simple and fresh. I liked that it wasn't overly drenched in dressing. -Larb (minced chicken salad): Good and had a nice kick from the chilies. -Pumpkin Red Curry with Tofu: All the veggies were fine but for some reason, the tofu seemed a little sour....questionable. -Chicken Green Curry: Liked the curry but there was very little chicken in the dish. -Pad See Sa Hai (Sauteed veggies): OK, nothing special. -Pad Ke Mow with Chicken (Pan friend rice noodles): Noodles were good and not too greasy but again, they skimped on the meat. Overall, decent Thai food especially in an area where there aren't that many ethnic restaurants. Flavors are alright, but I'd prefer if the dishes had more meat in them. I felt like most of the dishes had mostly veggies. In that regard, prices were a little high for what we got. Location is convenient; right off the Pinole Valley Rd. exit off of I-80.

Second time here, and extremely disappointed with the amount of food they served! And for the price I paid. And on the funny note; I paid an extra 1-2 dollar for the priced they listed. I came here once and dinned in, and liked the food. But notice they are so skimp with their meats!! I mean I know seafood is limited but if their are only like 6 pieces ( I counted ) 2 shrimp 2 mussels and 2 scallop for 12$.Plus two items and one rice for $26 is pretty expensive for me . Food is good but I'll order something more filling for dinner.

This place has pretty good food but the service is horrible. My parents waited 40 minutes after ordering and when my mom went to the counter to ask if their food was ready, the person at the counter asked them if they remembered their orders. Regardless of how busy you are, there are ways to remember someone's order. If you've been in business for a while, which this place has been, there is a system to not forget who you served even if it's a waittress in training. Unfortunately, this is the only Thai place near us in Pinole so they have a lot of customers. I also overheard a few people who ordered over the phone they waited almost 2 hours for their food. SHAKING MY HEAD!!!

Came for lunch on a Sunday around 1pm. The place was empty except for another table when we arrived. That is usually a bad sign but we sat to eat anyway. The server had menus in our hands in no time and we were contemplating what we wanted to order. We got the combo appetizer plate which comes with egg-rolls, fried tofu, shrimp, etc. All the items were fried to perfection, not oily at all and not burned to a crisp either. The peanut sauce and vinegar sauce that came with it complimented all the items very well. For our main entrees, Thai spice offers a variety of lunch specials. I only really come to Thai places for lunch because of the good deals. I ordered red curry which comes with rice automatically (most places charge for rice separately), and my girl got the BBQ chicken. Both lunch options came with soup as well as rice. Filling to say the least which is always good even though a lot of Thai places skimp out on food and you are left wanting more. With soup and free rice, you don't have to worry about that. The red curry was really tasty and everything was cooked well and they even put their rice into the shape of a heart on all the dishes which is cute. The girls BBQ chicken was standard chicken, nothing special. They also charge extra for peanut sauce if you ask for it. Now the place was good and about halfway through our meal the place got packed, literally. Every table was taken by the time we left so the place was jumping this quiet Sunday afternoon. Good food, service was good for the most part of the meal but there was only one server running around to attend to everyone that ended up coming into the restaurant while we were there. So she was a little overworked but she handled it well so I commend her on her effort. Good Thai place in my area, just going to keep looking for my local favorite though until I've made up my mind where I want to go in the future. However, this place is looking like a front runner.

I went here today with my fiancé for a lunch. We always come here when we want Thai food and have never before been disappointed. However, today after shortly getting our appetizer, we noticed a cockroach crawling on the walls behind us. We quickly decided to pay the bill, and as we were waiting, saw a second cockroach climbing on the register area near the kitchen. Needless to say, we will not be returning which is a shame because they always had decent food and customer service.

This is my favorite Thai restaurant. The yellow and red curry are heavenly. I could eat this food the rest of my life if I had to. I highly recommend it, and will continue to be one of Thai Spices biggest fans.

Their pumpkin red curry is the best around. I love calling in my order, driving over from Hercules a few minutes and later and its ready for my when I get there. Pad kee mao is delicious and really all of their curries. Though the pumpkin red curry is especially good here. Get it spicy and it will blow your mind.

This thai restaurant has HORRIBLE customer service, specifically rudeness on the phone. This family business is taking advantage of good natured people by serving poor quality food that is over priced. The tom yum we ordered over the phone for a pick up ended up taking too long, where we had to wait. When we tried the tom yum, it tasted like there was chemicals on the soup. I was FOOD POISONED and felt physically sick for days from their tom yum. If you'd like to get food poisoned, go here.

We see this place every time we come to Trader Joes and finally decided to give it a try and let me say best Thai in the area.. The Fresh Crab Fried Rice and Tom Yum soup was really yummy... My two daughters ordered the Pad Thai with Chicken and Broccoli and enjoyed it very much.. And the service was AWESOME very friendly and efficient.

I have known the owners of this fine establishment for years and honestly, I always come back because of their hospitality and amazing quality of Thai food. I have eaten at numerous Thai places, but this restaurant will always be my top 1 choice. Their shrimp Pad Thai is exquisite (too oily for some but I don't mind it). The yellow and red curry are to die for; full of taste and quite frankly, addicting. The Thai tea is also delicious. You can taste the tea and the milk won't overpower it, which is what some Thai places are lacking (they do put a lot of ice in the drink which I don't appreciate but I'll live through). The Pad See Ew (sp?) is very savory and will always leave you to want more. Overall, this is a very welcoming place, full of good, positive energy while also maintaining a unique, cultural aspect with their various dishes.

Got take out here a couple nights ago and was NOT impressed. My Tom Kha Gai soup was NOT extra hot like I requested and consisted of only chicken and a few mushrooms, with a few inedible pieces of kaffir lime, ginger and lemongrass...NO vegetables. I order this soup all the time and know how it's supposed to be prepared, this was poorly executed. My daughter's chicken satay was okay but it's hard to mess that up. Satay, soup and a small order of rice came to $20.20...pretty pricey for subpar cuisine.

This place is a rip off. We tried the deep fried stuffed Angel wings here and they were a disappointment. Two soggy fried wings for 7.50? The wings themselves are completely bland (no spices in the filling at all) but just noodles, mushrooms, and chicken. On top of that, they gave us only half a container of sweet and sour sauce. How is that enough sauce for two bland chicken wings? They also require a minimum of 12 dollars to use a credit card. A party of six gets an added 15% charge. I guess the only reason they have business is because there are so few Thai restaurants in the immediate area. Run to Berkeley where the Thai food is much better. Not recommended.

For anyone who lives and eats along I-80 between Pinole and Crockett there is not much good eats. Thai Spice brakes that mold. I have bee nesting takeout here for a while now and never a disappointment. If you are looking for good food in the area then come to Thai Spice

Living in Hercules great tasting local food can be hard to find. Fret not! This place guarantees quality and authentic tasting thai food with that homemade feel. I have tried many different things here and I can say I haven't been disappointed. Let's review my orders.. 1. Pad Ma Kur with tofu aka Eggplant tofu stirfry in chef's special sauce. Delicious and flavorful! The eggplant is cooked to perfection and the tofu isn't fried, which I prefer. I'm usually critical of this dish because I love eggplant so dearly.. &it's great here! yum. 2. Yellow Curry with Chicken Very tasty and bursting with flavor yellow curry. The consistency of the curry is perfect, not runny and not too thick. Great ratio of Chicken to Potatoes. 3. Green Curry with Chicken Devine. Green curry usually comes a little bit more soupy, but the trick is whether or not the curry soup holds flavor. And it is so good here! You can taste the subtle hints of coconut in the curry and the vegetables were not over cooked. Has eggplant, string beans, zucchini, and bell peppers. My favorite curry here so far! 4. Som tum Mild aka papaya salad And low and behold, they actually can make it mild! don't you hate it when you ask for mild and you find your mouth burning and your nose dripping?! I have a high tolerance and love for spicy food, but even my mom can eat this without dripping in sweat. Great! not too fishy, not too salty either, and great consistency of the papaya. 5. Pineapple fried rice with chicken. O. M. G. absolutely fabulous. The rice has a unique spice to it that is very subtle, the rice is white, and is cooked slightly on the soft side but still holds great consistency in my opinion. Has cashews in it, and chunks of pineapple that are a good size without being too overbearing. HUGE PORTION. must share with at least 4 people.. unless you can eat a ton of rice. (and i mean like you fill half your plate with a mountain of rice) 6. Special of the day BBQ beef Thinly sliced morsels of meat, that is bursting with that lovely grill flavor and a slightly unique taste that i define as homestyle. Comes with a fabulous dipping sauce that I just can't get my mind off of. I would highly suggest this dish if it's on their specials menu at the top of their register (keep an eye out!) 7. Pad se-ew with Tofu This dish was my ONLY disappointment. Usually I expect my pad se-ew to be drenched with flavor. This was a little on the dry side and less flavorful. =( However, the noodles were cooked well and so were the veggies and egg. 8. Chicken Satay Absolutely delicious. Very visually appealing with lovely grill marks, and bursting with flavor in every bite. Comes with some pickled cucumbers (which i love love love) , and peanut sauce. Overall, Hercules/Pinole.. this is a winner. Probably some of the best homestyle thai food that I've had.. and I have been to many thai restaurants from as far as Sacramento all the way down to San Jose. I only give it 4 stars because the service can be slow.. especially around dinner time. All they would need is at least one more server and everything would get moving much more quickly. Other than that, everyone is quite lovely and helpful.. and the food is great!

The chefs choice rice soup was ahhmmazing. Hands down best soup ever. I wish they would put this soup on the main menu. We just love this place for the taste, for the servers and above all for the large options for vegans :) keep it up guys. But please include rice soup in your main menu. Please please please

My family and I came to eat at this small restaurant today, when we walked in we were greeted right away, friendly waitress and the decorations on the wall were pretty unique especially the elephant wall decoration,we got the menu and was looking to see what they had to offer because we never came here before, as I was looking I seen their prices and thought to myself its a bit pricey but we went ahead and order right away, we order the eggrolls as our appertizer, eggrolls was not all that, but crispy and not burnt , my man order the green curry with rice, my daugther order the fried chicken strips with rice and I order pad thai with thai ice coffee it was a bit bitter but no complaints, our dishes was alright and for the dessert we had the coconut fried bannana and that was something i never had before and to be Honest that was the best, overall the waitresses were very nice, I would recommend this place..

On a Sunday afternoon in Crockett you need some Thai food. Seems like very place in Martinez is closed on Sunday. To the rescue, Thai Spice in Pinole! It's small but powerful. I knew what I wanted, the coconut chicken soup, thom kha gai,but how would it be? Perfect! Fresh, perfect blend of spices. They even had brown rice to go with. My friend got a spicy chicken dish with chile sauce. Loved it.

This place is average. I come here when I am in a hurry and need to pick up some extra spicy Tom yum soup since it is very close to home..The Green curry and eggplant are great compared to other dishes I have had. Moreover, they give small portions for the price.

Thai Spice gets the max rating from me because of their beautiful interior decor!, their good food, and their friendly customer service. My friend has become a fan of Thai Spice over a month ago and she's been wanting to take me there. We went and boy oh boy, was I impressed! We were seated immediately after the waitress wiped down the tables. It seems as if they have a lot of customers during lunch. We sat down and they served us water right away. They brought out appetizers which was this yummy looking soup but it had chicken broth (which isn't permissable for me to eat), I sent it back. I didn't expect for them to bring out a fresh salad with the best dressing I've ever tasted! I ordered the Drunken noodles with prawn (lol, that's all I pretty much order at Thai places. I'm finding my most favorite one). It was spicy and...had deveined shrimp!! I've never seen that at another Thai restuarant as of yet so I was completely satisfied. The Thai iced tea was really good. It wasn't too sweet or overwhelming. I'll definitely come back here again and I suggest you should try it when you're in the mood for Thai.

Surprisingly good Thai food in Pinole! We tried several items - gang ga-ree gai (yellow chicken curry), duck, pad see ew with chicken,a fresh noodle dish, and their lettuce wraps. All dishes were good, the place was clean and nicely decorated, and the service was good - all pretty surprising given its location in a tiny strip mall near a gas station and a jack in the box. I will return!

Ewwww...that was the worst pad Thai ever. My husband opened the to go box and told me it smelled bad. I ate it, at first it was ok then it stunk like fish and had a horrible after taste. My mother in law even said the same. I hope this was just a mix up with my dish, because after those amazing reviews I really was looking forward to this. Now I'm trying to wash this nasty taste out of my mouth.

For a smaller Thai restaurant, this place is surprisingly good! I really enjoy their Yellow Panang, as well as the green curry. My favorite veggie dish is the mushrooms, baby corn, and carrots. Rice is plentiful. Pad thai is GOOD, if you get if cooked medium it's the perfect amount of kick. I LOVE the spring roles. The peanut sauce and cucumber salad is plentiful. Yummy place to eat at or order out!

Everything is always fresh to order. The food is great. It does take some time to get your food because it's made to order but it's worth the wait. I'm really into Thai food and this is one of my favorite spots.

  • Chris N.

Great food, but slow service. The pad thai and fresh spring rolls are good. The peanut sauce is light and tasty. I highly recommend the ped yang, which is roast duck with a vibrant lime chili sauce. I would definitely come back to have this dish again. However, the service was very slow, and our entrees came at different times. We had to wait a while between courses. I think this is a great place if you want to have a long conversation catching up with friends or family.

We eat here quite often, mostly as take out. We usually order quite a bit of food and sample a lot of things. We love the yellow curry, creamy, a bit sweet with just a slight spice. The pad thai is pretty good, we usually get with prawns, has a sweet tangy flavor, not to much peanut to it, my only gripe being I wish we got a few more prawns because my daughter usually hogs them all. We also get the BBQ pork, it has good, grilled flavor and can be hit or miss with how much juiciness or lack there of it has. The papaya salad is not very spicy but that is how I like it. If you like yours spicy, you may want to ask them to add some. The crab fried rice is pretty good too and one of my daughter's other favorites. It comes with a decent amount of crab and has a slight caramelized taste to it from the pan. I always say we are going to explore the menu more but we like what we get so we tend to stay with it. Our go to place especially for take out Thai

I love the food here. I have been coming here for years because they use fresh local ingredients from the farmers market. I hated that they use environmentally destructive styrofoam containers but they finally got plastic alternatives. I was hoping they would please get biodegradable but so far no luck. And now I learned they use MSG in everything!!! I am shocked and heartbroken! Might have to find a new Thai restaurant. This is really confusing how pro health they are and then they use styrofoam ad plastic and MSG. Very disappointing! Plus the service is ridiculously slow and the portions pretty small. I was just informed they now have paper biodegradable to go containers. Awesome! So I added some more stars. If they stop the MSG I would give them 5 stars.

This is the only Thai restaurant within the Hercules-Pinole area. There was Sala Restaurant in the nearby town of Hercules, but that restaurant has since closed down. Thai Spice is a very small family owned restaurant. I think there might only be around 15 tables (maybe even less than that). Décor is very Asian Modern. Parking in front can sometimes be difficult because it shares the parking lot with a liquor store, pizza place and ice cream shop, but plenty of street parking. Most dishes are mildly spiced, but if your taste buds can stand the hot to fire hot taste, then go for it... whatever your pleasure they will adjust whatever heat you can take. Everything on the menu is good, but the portions can be a little on the small side. Overall: Try it, you'll like it... if not... move on to another place! Enjoy!

Super friendly and fun staff. The duck is phenomenal. Everything we've gotten here is awesome. Some of the waitresses encourage you to order by name, even if it means totally butchering it so everyone gets a laugh, then teaches you how to say the names properly. Great place!

here's what $77.00 got me: two orders of curry puffs, two orders of yellow chicken curry, one beef pad see ew, one shrimp pad thai, one crab fried rice and a really happy, fully fed family. so worth it!

Out of all the Thai restaurants I've been to, this place currently tops all of them. I would give a 10/10 on food and a 8/10 on their service. It was just a bummer a while ago when i tried to call them for a pick up order of 2 thai iced teas then she told me "you could just order it here". And the way she talked to me through the phone sounds like she was pissed and i just said "um okay I'll just order it when i get there" then she hung up on me. She could've at least be polite and say it in a nice way. But hey when you talk about their food. It's amazing. Period.

I've been here a few times and never really felt wowed by their food. It was good, but nothing really stood out. I felt like most of the food was pretty standard Thai food. Atmosphere was okay. It is a smaller restaurant, so it's a little quite. I wouldn't mind going again then maybe treating myself to a yogurt a few doors down. :)

My wife and had lunch here today and LOVED it! The food was delicious and service was even better! Tom yum kai soup was piping hot. Like typical newlyweds we held hands across the table, and when our food came the rice was shaped into a perfect heart. =) *gay friendly was a big plus!!

My go to place for some good kaosoy and Lao style papaya salad! The kao soy has a familiar taste to thai boat noodles, but the fermented soy bean and ground pork give it the kaosoy taste. They use fresh wide rice noodles and I appreciate the fact that it's not oily at all, seasoned perfectly no side condiments are needed. Pad thai is always on point with the perfect balance of sweet and tangy, noodles cooked to perfection. Customer service is friendly and attentive, they have a small kitchen, so wait time can be a little longer than usual, but food is worth the wait.

Found this place on Yelp and the great reviews meant I couldn't turn it down. I am so glad I ended up here. There were lots of vegetarian options for my girl. Everything here tasted incredible. The waitress was very friendly and gave a great appetizer recommendation. We ordered the vegetable soup, the curry puff appetizer, and the yellow curry fried rice with cashews and pineapple. I'll be back.

Ordered #77 1. not enough chicken, vegetables (overloaded on cheap onions n rice) 2. greasy fried rice; never had soaky rice like this, tastes ok but I wont look good after 3. free soup still not ready @ 1140 4. dont take amex, and have to spend over $12 to use cards 5. said a lil spicy, it was totally mild

We made reservations for a large party and they were very accommodating. Portion sizes are a bit on the small side but the quality of the food was really good. All the curries taste authentic and the noodle dishes are good. Thanks to Pim and her great customer service!

Service.... service... service.... NOT HERE! Three Strikes your OUT!! Thai Spice Used to rave about this little Gem... but NOT any LONGER. Service hasn't been sterling in the past BUT the GOOD FOOD has more then made up for it. Thai Spice has gone WAY... WAY... Down Hill in the last couple years. Our last three visits have been a SUB PAR experience at best. Sub Par Food and Sub Par Service = Loss of a Customer. - Used to have great tasting food... NOW... NOT so Great ( Rate Food at BARELY 3 Stars) - Used to get generous portions for a Thai Restaurant.... NOW... skimpy is the word - Used to Dream about their Green Curry... NOW... you can call it more of a NIGHTMARE. - Used to give you a FULL Large Bowl of rice for a single price... NOW... they charge by person. - Used to make the Food Quickly... NOW... SLOW with 15 minute gaps between dishes Very Poor Service Drops this place down from a 3-Star Rating.... all the way... down to ROCK BOTTOM of a SINGLE STAR. Need water? Good Luck... Need the Check? Good Luck... Wondering where your Pad Thai is... after all your other dishes have came... Good Luck!! Cutting Corners and Cutting Service is NO way to stay in Business... this place is NO longer the little gem it used to be.

This place has some very good authentic Thai food. Came here for dinner one night and ordered the chicken larb, crab fried rice, and nam khao. They were allvery tasty and super delicious. The crab fried rice and nam khao were specials that evening. Unsure if they make Lao dishes there all the time. The crab fried rice has real crab meat and there was a lot of it too. I was happy that they did not skimp on the crab meat. I got the chicken larb mild which was my error in judgment. I think it would have tasted better with some spiciness to it. The nam khao was authentic with enough Lao sausage and crispy rice mixed in. I tryly enjoyed it even though I was even interested in ordering it when I first saw that they made it here. Service was good even though there was only 2 people there and it was a busy night. Will definitely come here again and recommend for Thai/Lao food.

It is our first time here after living in Hercules for almost 2 years. I wonder why didn't we discover this place a lot sooner. The service here is great. The waitress is friendly and thoughtful. We have a two year old and the lady who serve us got him his little set of kids silverware and plate. Food taste awesome price is fair. We are definitely coming back again and again!

The fresh spring rolls are delicious. I like their dipping sauce. I also ordered the yellow chicken curry and it was a large portion considering it was the lunch plate. I was only able to finish half until I was full. A good proportion of chicken, potato, and onion. The curry wasn't too sweet like it tends to be at many places. Lunch overall was delicious and I would definitely come back if I were in the area again.

Excellent food and atmosphere! My partner and I eat a lot of Thai Food but Thai Spice was one of the best by far! Another Thai place. This place offers an assortment of very well made Thai food. The location is a bit small however. On busy days you could be waiting for a while to eat. Overall, everything I have had here have met my expectations.

This place has good food. My favorite is the pad Prik King or as they call it, green bean chicken. They recently raised their prices to an exorbitant amount. For example, a Thai iced tea is now $3.50 and if you don't want any ice it's going to cost you $4!! Yikes! An order of 3 measly spring rolls will run you $7.50. Granted, the stuff all tastes very good. I just think this place can only go so far on good food alone. There has to be so much more that makes the experience worthwhile. The thing that gets me about this place is their lack of customer service. If they mess up, they don't help you out with a complimentary appetizer or something like that, give you a discount or anything else. It's sort of like "oh well we messed up, tough luck just pay and get out of here." I hope this place ends up bringing its appetizer and drink prices back down and learns to treat customers a little better when they make mistakes.

This is our absolute favorite Thai restaurant near our house. Our favorite dish here is the Red Curry Roast Duck. We've been here many times and that's always the dish we come back to order. We never get tired of it. The service is also good with friendly waitresses. This is one of our designated after work dinner restaurant. Highly recommend this place after a days work when you want to unwind.

Horrible service. Called in order and was told it would take 30 minutes. Ended up taking an hour and fifteen. You need to speed up service otherwise you will see more people up and leave, which happened twice during my wait.

I came here twice before but don't remember much about it so I'll just put a review about my recent take out order which was last Sunday. The food was pretty good and the location is convenient since I live in Hercules. The only thing I didn't understand was I placed an order for take out and it said if would be ready in 20 minutes. As I arrived in about 20 minutes or so to pick my order it was not ready yet. The restaurant didn't look to busy so I don't know why it wasn't ready yet.. I had to wait another 20 minutes just waiting until my order was ready. I wish that they said that on the phone instead so I can wait at home instead of in my car.

Prices a bit high (-1 star) but if you want indulgent thai food with a smile, come here. I ordered a chicken tom yum and a side of angel wings. This was my first time eating angel wings and they are addicting! Whatever they stuff their wings with is like foodie crack! I tell you! The tom yum was flavorful and I didn't need any rice to go with it. I was full just off the good broth, mushrooms and plentiful chicken. Come here on a business venture when you can slide the company card or if you want to indulge. Or if you want to impress your date by showing them you can pay double what you pay elsewhere. Free parking outside. Quick service. Right off 80.

Very disappointed with my last visit. I have come here often and always have great food and good service. My visit last Saturday was so bad, I'm not sure I can continue to recommend this place. The curry puffs were cold and tasteless, the pumpkin seafood curry had 2 shrimp , very little calamari and mostly overcooked pumpkin. I don't know if they've changed chefs, owners, or what, but it's just not what it used to be. Even more disappointing as I had an out of state guest that usually loves to go here and she too was disappointed. Hope they get better soon!

This little place is a hidden gem. Roasted duck curry is just amazing! All their curry's are thick and yummy, not the watery stuff you get in some places. Their papaya salad is very tasty and if you can handle heat ask for it to be spicy! They know how to prepare it hot. Only Thai restaurant where they are not afraid to serve me what I ask for "spicy level = demonic!" I love it!!!! Super friendly staff, they love kids. Only thing I'm hoping is that they start using cardboard/paper cup containers for their soup (when you order to go) instead of plastic. I'm slowly starting to suggest that as a change. You can't go wrong with this place.

I admit this place has great food but I DO NOT appreciate being lied to. If you dropped my food, tell me. Don't just give it to me when I saw you drop it, asked if you dropped it, then still denied it. Also we cannot order alcohol in this place but when their friends all come over, they dish out beers. I mean, come on....seriously???

I came here with my girlfriend after a long day in Wine Country. Couldn't figure out what we wanted to eat, but we ultimately decided on Thai. The restaurants in Hercules didn't have great reviews, so we found one in nearby Pinole and ended up at Thai Spice. While situated next to a liquor store with some rather sketchy clientele, the restaurant itself is nicely decorated with a rather to-the-point waiting staff. We were immediately seated with waters and menus brought to us. The lady ordered the pad thai with chicken, while I decided to satisfy my long-standing craving of roast duck panang curry. The food was a little slow coming out, but when it did, it was very good. The curry was piping hot, so rather than sear the roof of my mouth and my wine-soaked tongue, I decided to mooch off of my better half. The pad thai was just the right amount of sweet, and the chicken was not too dry as it usually can be in that dish. After the curry had cooled down, I poured some over my rice and went to town. The curry had a very good consistency: not too watery, yet not too viscous like Japanese curry (not saying it's bad at all, just a different style). The sweetness was not overpowering, and the duck was very well-prepared. There may have been more bamboo chutes than I would have liked, but it didn't get in the way of me enjoying my food. Afterwards, we had some mango sticky rice for dessert, which was a tad too sweet, but pretty good nonetheless. Overall, the service was good and the food was particularly exceptional. This will definitely be my go-to place for Thai food for the next few months while I'm still in the area.

I would never have thought to come here unless it was suggested...and it's never been suggested until recently. What a nice surprise. It's nothing I would have imagined just driving past it... Dim lighting with Thai-style art and imagery along the walls and tables. Very clean and upscale for the area, I would say. Food was pretty good. We had: - Spicy Wings $7.50: (Deep fried chicken wings, sauteed with Thai chili, garlic sauce and topped with crispy basil) Juicy with a mild kick! - Tom Yum Gai $8: (Hot and sour chicken soup with lemongrass, tomato, mushroom and galangal) Nothing special about it... just classic and soothing. - Pad Gra-Praw $8: (Thai dish with chili, peppers, onions and fresh basil) Flavors were yummy and fresh tasting. - Gang Ped Yang $10.50: (Roasted duck with tomato, pineapple, bell pepper and basil in red curry and coconut milk) Interesting flavors. I'm not a big fan of fruit mixed in with rice or meats but this wasn't bad. Curry was tasty. Good normal-sized portions (not like King of Thai with their bomb-a$$ monster portions), chill atmosphere, reasonable prices, easy parking, and very casual. I would come back if someone suggested it.

We came to this restaurant blind. Based on the reviews I read on Yelp, we took a friend who is visiting from abroad here. So, we were a party of three. Upon arrival, I thought "uh oh, there's nobody in the house!!" Then I quickly realized that we were the first patrons for the day. We were greeted by the staff and promptly seated by the front window. No problem. We were given menus and made to feel really at home. The smiles overflowed as we sat ourselves and started perusing the menus. Hmmm, seems like everything I was looking for was in the menu. Okay, that settled, it was time to order. I just hoped that their servings were better than other Thai restaurants I've been to. I absolutely was not going to be shamed in front of a guest from overseas!! I mentioned to our server that my wife was not so into spicy food and she made a mental note of it. I ordered a bit more than was appropriate for three. I did this so I could add some spicy items for number one!! ME!! We ordered the Angel wings and their spicy chicken wings for me. Let me tell you, I wasn't disappointed. Although the soup, Tom Yum Goong came out without any spice at all (to my disappointment :( ). However, it came to our table steaming hot and the wife and our guest loved it. That's good enough for me. The rest of our orders came in a timely manner and by the time we were well into our meal, the house quickly filled. I have no regrets. Yelp came through for me again! Oh, and the fried bananas for dessert was excellent as well. I will certainly come back to this little nondescript resto in Pinole. Service was great; food was amazing...and the portions were just right. Next time, I'll try their curries. And maybe ask for SOME spice on our food.

We visited close to closing yet they still were really friendly and attended fabulously. The fried tofu is the bomb. I love it

First time trying this place, I had the Chicken Pad Thai to go. The waitress was extremely polite and friendly and the wait for my food didn't take long. The pad Thai was delicious! The portions could have been a little bigger and the tofu pieces seemed like they were cooked for to long. All in all I would definitely go back!

I visited this smallish storefront restaurant for lunch, my first time there in several years. Overall, quite satisfactory. Lunch plate specials, in the $7-$11.50 range, include soup and rice, the latter scooped into a heart shape--a cute touch. I opted for the pad ma-kur ($7)--a mildly-spiced stir fry of eggplant, red and green peppers, onions, the ubiquitous Thai basil, and choice of chicken, beef, pork, or tofu (I went with the chicken). Calamari and prawns are also available for $2 extra. Good enough that I'll be back to sample some of the other menu items!.

If you're looking for really good Thai food, this is the place. Came here on a whim looking for a place to eat, it was around 9:30, and where most restaurants would be closing by that time, we found this place to be open til 10pm. We placed an order for takeout, one order of pad Thai, moo yang(grilled pork w chili sauce), yellow curry with chicken, and a thai tea. The pad thai my bf ordered was really good, the thing is he's really picky when it comes to pad thai considering he comes from a lao/thai background, so he definitely knows how it should taste, because most places make pad Thai too sweet..but this one was a perfect balance of flavors. Everyone has an acquired taste though..The curry, in my opinion, was the best curry I've had in awhile..it was pretty savory. It tasted like a mix between Indian curry and Thai, the sauce was really thick, which I love because some places make their curry too watery or the sauce is just really thin. For about $8 you get a pretty good sized container of it and it's enough for 3 good sized portions. The grilled pork was a little dry but it wasn't too bad. Overall, everything here was great, the pad thai was a definite winner though! I can't really comment on the service cause we ordered to go, but I would definitely recommend checking this place out.

Good: Super Authentic Thai Food Chef Cindy is an awesome cook and everything is made from scratch by hand Perfect balance in all meals. Very flavorful Very nice and friendly staff small but nice restaurant, good atmosphere Did I say the food is awesome already? Negatives: If they're busy it can take some time for food to come, its a small kitchen Quality ranges from super yummy to mind blowing tasty, its always good but sometimes its just amazing, I think it depends if the owner is cooking or not. I read some of the other Yelps, I have no idea how anyone can say anything negative about the food here. I've been to many, many Thai food restaurants all thru SF and the bay area and this is Top 3 in my opinion.

Amazing! Has been my favorite Thai food place since it's existence. The owner is friendly, welcoming and always remembers me and my family. The food is excellent. Best pad thai I've ever had (and I've tried pad thai everywhereeee). The duck curry is also to die for. Highly recommend. Everything tastes great, is presentable and affordable. Disregard any complaints anyone gives about small spaces and difficult parking - it'll be worth the trip.

This place rocks. I had lunch here. It gets packed at noon, so go early. I had the pad thai and it was amazing. The lunch came with a hot n sour egg drop soup, which was fantastic. I'll be hitting this spot on the regular.

This place has decent food, but the portions are so dang small, oh my gosh. You should never try to jep people who can speak your language. I am not thai, but my god mother is laos/thai, and she also has a thai restaurant that I worked in for 3 years. So I've cooked my own share of Thai food. I had the pad thai, flavor was good, but it looked like the cook used all broken noodles. I could not grip anything with my chopsticks. Oh yeah, and we had to ask for chopsticks. Back to the food. I also ordered the pad ka prow. This portion was dang small, I felt bad eating it cause I know it isnt enough for my boyfriend. So i just had some bell peppers for taste. Not bad, but seriously... There were like 6 pieces of meat. And why the heck did you put a piece of big ass lettuce under the stir fry??? It already comes on a plate, doesnt it?? It doesn't need another layer. It was the restaurants way of trying to make the dish look fuller. But you failed, cause I know what I'm looking at. Then we ordered the tom yum goong, flavor was ok, but my soup came out just warm. I hate just warm anything soup. That's a F-. Then lastly, I ordered the satay tofu. I love tofu, I can eat tofu all day long. But dammit Thai Spice, are you have jew?? Cause the portion in this dish is so damn ridiculous, I just wanted to laugh. That is the food. The service is really slow. They had 1 waitress, she kept forgetting things. I asked for a high chair, 10 minutes passed. Nothing. There was a table that just left that had a child, I walked over to get it, but saw that it was hekka dirty so I didnt take it. So I asked her again, after 15 mins. There was this other chick there that just sat at the register. I think she was the owners daughter, prob in her late teens. You lazy bitch, since this your parents place, you should be helping out too. College doesnt pay for itself. That forever 21 shopping spree didnt pay for itself. I hate seeing spoiled brats like that. She saw that I needed something, but she didnt even acknowledge me. SMH This restaurant has good food, but good food will only take you so far. Peace!

The food is good but the service is really bad when they are busy. We placed an order for pick up today and they told us over the phone it would be 30 minutes. They are always slow so we arrived 45 minutes later and we were told our order was still not ready and we had to wait another 15 minutes. This has happened to us before. I mentioned to the staff and they apologized but I won't be returning.

Our usual Thai/Laotian place was closed on Mondays so we came to Thai Spice. I've done take out several times here and might have ate once here long time ago but nothing worth memorable. Hubby and I decided to have dinner here on a Monday after our mini vacation in San Diego/Carlsbad area. We ordered the pad se ew with beef and pumpkin red curry w/combination seafood and 2 cups of white rice. The pad se ew was pretty good, texture was nice, full of flavor, wished there was more beef and the pumpkin red curry was delicious as well however not a big mussel fan in curry. Service was pretty descent and friendly but I thought the prices were a bit much. I also wished they shared their specials with us because after we ordered, that's when I saw they offered nam Kao and Kao soy although the prices were also pretty high as well. Well at least I know this place serves nam Kao if I have a hankering for it.

Delicious! One of the best thai restaurants I've been to in a ling time, and I ate my way across SF's huge selection of Thai in the past 30 years. (Sorry, Marni Thai on Irving- i still love you but I'm too far away to visit you weekly now) I adore their curry puffs, the Tom Ka soup and all the curries. The service is good but not steller. The one thing is they don't have a liquor license, so I can't order a cold beer to cut the curry heat; I kind of miss that. The ambience inside is quite nice and classy too- dim lighting and very warm and inviting. It is even more impressive given that they are in a strip mall near a 7-11. Overall, I think the food is just amazing. I'll be coming back here for years!

This place is wonderful. I like the music and atmosphere as well as the hot delicious food. Today I went here with my boss and another coworker. Every one was satisfied with the great meal. I asked for the spice tray. It comes with jalapeños, crushed peanuts, a chili sauce, and a powdered hot spice. The powdered hot spice and peanuts make a great combo to any plate of food. I think this is better than the other Thai places I have been just for the variety and the spice tray.

I've only ate here once during my visit to the Bay. My gf and I were on our way home and were feening for some Thai Food. I was debating over Sala Thai at the time but since my last few visits there were not as great I decided to try something new. Im reluctant to try new Thai restaurants because it is always usually a MISS. I use to go to Sala Thai in Richmond a lot but their food has drastically changed in quality and quantity. Since we are curry fanatics we decided to get 29. GANG GA-REE GAI (Available in veg) 8.00 9.50 Mild yellow curry pasted in coconut milk with chicken, onions and potato.(prawn add $2) - ok curry is either too watery for me or too thick with not enough flavor - BUT... THIS CURRY -- was MmMm good!! Even though I was full half way through my dish, I managed to eat it all because my mouth could not get enough!! The potatoes were soft and not hard, just the right amount of onions, an abundance of chicken.. I cant wait to try this place again. I also love the decor in this restaurant!

I wanted to give this place four stars because the food was great, but the service became painfully slow when more diners started to arrive so I had to dock a star. We will definitely come back for their curry puffs :)

One of my favorite local restaurants. The food is on the pricier side but I think its worth it. My usual order is green curry with chicken and fried rice. I have yet to try other items on the menu. Ive tried their pad thai and its decent not finger licking good. Their peanut sauce however is delicious!

This place is a local favorite. It was packed, lots of people drop in here to get their food to go. Their portions are great. I had a catfish & eggplant type of dish- it was really fabulous. I didn't like the color of their drunken noodles, but it sure tasted great. I'm just used to a darker brown color on the big fat noodles. I will definitely try this place again as long as my hot wife takes me here.

Got take out just some chicken cashew dish. My review should be taken down because I don't know the exact Thai name for the dish, my bad folks, calm down. It didn't come with rice, and out the door for $9.75, with mild spice, it was delicious. Will I be back? Maybe....Just Maybe, for dining in.

  • Aggie A.

Food still reasonably good BUT the kitchen needs to manage the food service better. A few of us went out to dinner, and there was no one there when we got there. After we ordered other people came in to dine-in and to pick up food for take-out. The biggest issue this time around was the serial arrival of the dishes, with a gap about 15 minutes between the dishes. It got so that whoever got their food started eating and they were part-way through with their food before the next person got their food. So when the last person got their food, everyone else was practically done and everyone else had to wait while they gobbled their food. From now on, we will drive a mile or two more and frequent the other local Thai restaurants.

Came in on a Sunday and it wasn't particularly busy at the time. This was my first visit here after some friends highly recommended this place as having great food & service. Unfortunately- food was just ok and service was not good. We ordered their pad thai noodle which had a very distinct flavor. It wasn't like anything I've tried before. I felt that it was too sweet and almost tasted as if there was ketchup added to it. Also had the green curry with chicken which was good, the sampler for appetizer which came with fried tofu, shrimp egg roll, chicken satay and a fried potato gyoza and lastly the crispy chicken. I wasn't particularly impressed with the crispy chicken. It was just deep fried chicken with not much flavoring until you dip into the sweet chilli sauce that's provided. So basically 2 out of 4 dishes were good, while the other 2 were just meh. I would have given 3 stars for quality of food since it was a-ok, but the service is what brought them down to 2 stars. It really wasn't that particularly busy when we were there, but for some odd reason, our server decided to take another group's order before ours despite us arriving first. None of the dishes came out with serving spoons/forks so we had to constantly ask for those. And anytime we needed a refill- again, we had to initiate the server for assistance. To make matters worst, they did not put in our order for the mango sticky rice dessert so we were just sitting there waiting for no apparent reason.

How fortunate to have this restaurant in Pinole! We had the Pra Ram and the green curry - both were very tasty, fresh, and comparable to Thai food available in large cities. Service was friendly and attentive. Prices were good and portions were perfect. (Not sure how much some of the complaining reviewers eat... But I'm guessing more than the average bear.) Nice atmosphere too.

Tried for the first time for lunch on the weekend. Husband and son ordered Gai yang (barbeque marinated boneless chicken) lunch ($8). Both enjoyed, saying very flavorful. I was given one piece and it was good. Skin had a good slight crunch, making nice texture difference. Rice is portioned into shape of a heart - very nice. I ordered rad na (pan fried thick rice noodle with egg and broccoli and gravy). Choice of chicken, pork, beef or tofu. I opted for chicken with rad na. A $2 upcharge for prawn or calamari. Quite a bit of gravy. Flavor good, but gravy overpowered the noodles. Noodles clumped quite a bit together. Not much egg, but good portion broccoli and chicken. Even though the flavor was good, not sure I'd order again before trying other dishes here. They had some specials written on the walls and I wanted to try one of them. I think it was the fried rice with (something) chicken and salted fish. Unfortunately, they did not have the salted fish available. I like that they have slightly lower prices for lunch (especially on the weekend) and would go back again. They were pleasant and checked on us a couple of times. Pictures of both dishes ordered will be uploaded.

This is my favorite Thai place in the bay area, possibly in the world. I've only been to one other place that rivaled Thai Spice (see my Thai Tom review) but for all intents and purposes, this is probably the best Thai food you're ever going to eat. Consistently great food made with love and family owned. BYOB!

My favorite restaurant in the area!! Every time I come we try something new and we haven't found an entree we don't like! I especially like this place because they have several pumpkin dishes (not every thai place I've been does). I especially enjoy the fried pumpkin appetizer and pumpkin red curry. My favorite noodle dish is the pad kee mao. Service has always been great, it's been the same waitresses every time I've been there so I think they're starting to recognize me. They keep my water glass full, and they get the food out in a timely manner, I can't say enough good things about them!

We had driven past this place several times and always talked about going, so one day we did. We were not disappointed and will most definitely go back. I've eaten probably about 20+ times and every single time, the food is delicious. I've tried out other places around Pleasant Hill/Concord area, and some around Hercules/Rodeo and they never seem to satisfy my needs because Thai Spice has set the bar so high for me that I have to keep coming back for more! I love the Pad Se Ew and the Pad Thai, and their Thai Spicy Spices will have you crying like a baby, but it's just so hard to stay away! I will definitely be back here again to eat, when I have more free time on my hands!

Best Thai food I've found in the West County area. Really delicious tofu satay - how do they get it to taste like that?! Great fresh spring rolls, good tofu larb salad. Yummy eggplant entrée and delicious mild yellow curry with all of the flavor and none of the burnt taste buds. You can bring your own beer or wine. Pleasant servers always get the order right. If you order take-out, allow at least a half hour prep time.

  • Reggie R.

Everything we have tried here is fabulous. The Fresh Spring Rolls are the best we've ever had (in four different states). The Pumpkin Red Curry and Pad Thai doesn't get any better. The Eggplant Stir Fry is incredible. The Chicken with Sweet Basil is awesome. The Pad See Ew is very tasty. You just can't go wrong here. On top of that, the wait staff is always really friendly. The only down side is that on a hot day the restaurant is steamy...but it's worth it to sweat over a great meal. :-) Who would have thought such a great Thai place would be in Pinole?

My absolute favorite Thai restaurant! I've eaten here probably 50 times and I've never been disappointed. The pad ped nor mai (chicken with basil and bamboo shoots) is my favorite dish! They serve complimentary soup, which is always delicious, and the ladies that work there are all really sweet. I've tried many other Thai restaurants closer to home/work but Thai spice is still theee best!!

We just tried this place for the first time last Sunday. We had takeout so I can only give my review on the take out. We ordered about 4 items and it was almost $40. I thought it was a little pricey for Thai food. The food was decent and small portions. We are not big eaters but I was expecting the portions to be a little bigger. We normally go across town to Won Thai and we are definitely fans of this Thai place.

Went to this soley based on the rating on Yelp. With fours stars we thought we will be blown away, but ended with a mixed bag. Pro's Ped Yang - roasted duck was the only reason I gave three stars. The eggrolls are great. The Thai Ice Tea Ok's Pad Thai the sauce was good. Pra Ram the sauce was good. Con's Tom Yum Gai - blah! No flavor taste like water. Rice or the lack for it. We got gipped. The service was mixed bag.

I've been to this restaurant on several occasions but I've never experienced a meal that I've truly enjoyed. While this location is convenient for me to travel to, I'm coming to realize that I'm better off making the trek to other Thai restaurants in the area. To date I have tried: Gang Ga-ree Gai (Yellow Curry Chicken) Pad Gra-Praw Gai (Basil chicken) Pad Thai Pad Se-Ew with beef The only dish that I may consider ordering again would be the yellow curry chicken, however, there are other places in the area that truly make a better yellow curry that it's not worth ordering it from this place. The Pad Gra-Praw Gai was extremely oily. There was so much oil that it was separating from the dish. The flavors weren't really that intense and I've definitely have had better basil chicken elsewhere. I generally base my experience on whether or not I'll like a Thai restaurant on their basil chicken. This restaurant failed to meet my expectations for this dish. This was the first dish that I ever ordered from Thai Spice and I should have made an effort to never return...but I did. The next dish that I ordered was the Pad Thai. Truly some of the greasiest Pad Thai that I have ever experienced. The portion wasn't that big either. After Thai Spice failed at basil chicken and Pad Thai I decided to try the yellow curry. Since the yellow curry was fairly acceptable, I decided to go back today to try the Pad Se-Ew. The Pad Se-Ew with beef was not as greasy as the Pad Thai or the basil chicken, but I'm not sure if the chef goes out of his way to clean the wok in between dishes or cool the wok down to a reasonable temperature before adding the egg that goes into this dish...but the egg was heavily cooked in oil and was practically black. There were only four thin slices of beef and about 8 florets of broccoli. This dish was heavily prepared with white pepper - it was an obvious taste that continued to linger in my mouth hours after having consumed this entree. Needless to say, I think I'm definitely over Thai Spice. I don't think I'll go back for a fifth run to see if there is at least ONE dish that is truly worth going back for. I know that several people on here give this restaurant great reviews, but I guess it's just not for me.

I waited over 40 minutes for a take out order . When I recieved it it was luke warm and there was no soup or rice with one of the dinner items. total cost was $13 per person. To top it off the food had no flavor. NEVER again will I go there

I like Thai food. And I tried really hard to like this place. I've eaten here a few times and had takeout a few times, but my palate just isn't pleased. The Pad Thai had no kick. It was hard to believe that the fried pumpkin really was pumpkin because it sure didn't taste like it. The other dishes lack flavor. This is coming from someone who is a super wimp about spicy and even mild food, so when I say bland, I mean it is bland. (Yes, yes, I know, how can I like Thai food if I can't stomach the spice factor? I make it work out somehow- go figure.) I don't know how they got their name because I'm still trying to figure out where the spice is. I recommend the California Thai Restaurant on San Pablo Dam Road-- it has more flavor and I believe it is also slightly cheaper.

Was in the Pinole area and craved Thai food. Did a search on yelp and found this place. When you first walk in, you smell all the different aromas of curry and spices. It smelled so good in this place. Its a small intimate place with Thai culture decor. Very pretty! Not an old place, not dirty at all, very clean and modern. Food can be made to special order if not on the menu. My boyfriend wanted a certain type of basil fried rice and the staff was more than happy to make it for him. We also ordered the chicken pad thai which was yummy! The crispy tofu was good, although the sauce was a bit too sweet for us. Staff was super friendly and helpful with orders. Since we're used to going to Thai Basil in Berkeley, this place was not bad at all. still good, but a bit too pricey if we must say. Parking is available, easy access right of the freeway as well.

Their crispy chicken is a must, best I've had! Whatever they season it with is on pointe and the crunchy outside and moist interior keeps you wanting more. Pra ram long with tofu is delicious. Inexpensive, quick, friendly service, delicious, and always with customers. They seem to have a solid following. The peanut sauce is a little on the watery side and the satay tofu was just ok, which knock it down a star... But other than that, i'm one satisfied customer and would definitely make this place a regular spot for their other options. Despite the watered peanut sauce, the pra ram was still good!

I came here a few times(take out only), & had never really enjoyed my food. I guess it would be considered as a "OK" place for an American Thai food, but I don't really care for it. I usually come here when all the other Thai restaurants are closed or when I'm too lazy to drive the extra mile for good Thai food. The papaya salad is blah, the pad thai was alright, & the pad see ew was not yummy. The noodles was super soft & tasted like they boiled the noodle or cooked it for too long + very blah, no taste. Was craving papaya salad & pad see ew really bad....... booooo): not a happy camper. Didn't hit any spots at all. Hahaha! If I could put 2 1/2 stars, i would. Giving em 3 stars for it being OK for an "AMERICAN" Thai food. (:

BEST YELLOW CURRY I've EVER HAD...scratch that BEST CURRY I've ever had!! I've had such a wide range of different kind of curries and this curry is the best i've had so far.so good..I would totally come back to eat here again especially for the CURRY!! Pad Thai was OK! definitely had better..I would of loved to eat one of the appetizers but I actually thought they were expensive for appetizers. Service was good. I loved the ambiance, although small in space it was well decorated. I did not expect it to look the way it did from the outside.

A lot of parking, and we were seated right away. The service was attentive and the food was good. Nicely browned pad see ew, above average. The yellow potato curry was among the best yellow curries I've had. Warm and comforting, but with an extra oomph of curry.

Been here a couple times but the recent experience food quality was no good. The Tom Kha Gai (chicken coconut milk soup) was very watery. The other chicken entrees that I ordered hardly had any chicken in them. They are already known for their small portions and high prices but now they have become stingy about the amount of chicken they put in the dishes! Their quality has gone down - will not be going there again.

Everything is good. Have tried numerous dishes and have not been disappointed. The Thai Iced Tea, Pad Thai, and spicy chicken wings are a must everytime I go. The green curry is great. The crab fried rice is excellent. The vegetarian dishes will leave you craving more. The ambiance and customer service are also worth mentioning.

I absolutely love this place. My usual is the Pla Duk Pad Ped #57 catfish in spicy red curry sauce. It has fried catfish nuggets in this spicy curry sauce. Its wonderful! You can ask for mild if you don't like spicy but this is a dish you HAVE to try! Other things I like: Deep fried ice cream - don't know if they still have this Pad Thai with tofu or shrimp tom kha gai - coconut soup with mushrooms Pra Ram - spinach and chicken with peanut sauce crispy chicken I have tried their papaya salad and it was ok. I've had better. mMm..I don't even know how to end this post...just mMm UPDATE: I went here today for a friend's birthday lunch and I ordered the red curry vegetarian and tofu satay. It was both really good. The tofu satay retained a charcoal smokey grilled flavor and with the addition of peanut sauce, it was phenomenal. The red curry was just like the #57 so I was very happy with my order. This place never fails to please! And the owner is really nice and sweet!

Geeze these guys won't even spring for a air conditioner. Who enjoys sweating during a spicy dinner? Give me a break. The food is very lacking in content and quality. Give them what they pay for, it's that simple.

I tell ya, it is missing one star because my fav dish Pad thai was so bland I was very upset! I should have just ordered more spring rolls because they were off da chain!!! This is a really cute little spot, right next to the pizza place! I loved the decor the most, fits in perfect! Not really much else I can say except I loved the Spring rolls, lol, oh and the curry puffs were awesome too. Gotta go back soon!

We stopped by here because the Sashimi Restaurant across the street had a wait, even though there were empty tables. This location is in a "strip" mall/shopping center located across from the Trader Joes Shopping Center. This small intimate restaurant seats about 40 or so. Service was a little slow, but it might have been because we ordered appetizers and dessert. What we ordered: -Curry Puffs (6) ***** A thin dumpling wrapper filled with curry potatoes, folded into triangles and deep fried. Served with an awesome peanut sauce and cucumbers. - Spring Rolls (3) ***** Three fresh Spring Rolls cut in half and served with another style of peanut sauce. Spring rolls are rice sheets filled with shrimp, rice noodles, cucumber, green onion and mint. They are served cold and a cool and refreshing. - Chicken Angel Wings (3) **** Three chicken wings (minus the drumette) filled with a rice noodle and veggie mixture, coated with crumbs (like panko) and deep fried. These were pretty good, but not as good and Cha Am in Vallejo or Sala Thai in Benicia. - Pad Thai Can't rate, my daughter ate this, but she said it was just ok She likes Cha Am's better. - Curry Fried Rice My husband ate this, he liked it but said he didn't like the pineapple and he didn't feel like it was a big enough portion for $8. - Shrimp with Tomatoes and Cucumber **** I liked this dish, but didn't think you should have to order rice as a side for a stir fry dish. The sauce was very good and I did enjoy the cucumber, even though I was skeptical about cooked cucumber. - Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream ***** This was delicious! The ice cream was dense and very intense in flavor. Their were chunks of fresh young coconut throughout. This restaurant is very pretty and clean on the inside. The walls are covered in dark wood with light wood accents and decorative halogen lights over each table. The staff was courteous.

An excellent suburban Thai restaurant. I've been to another Thai restaurant in the area that was closer to my house, and it was rather bland, so I decided to try Thai Spice because of the better Yelp reviews. I will never go anywhere else in my area for Thai again! This place has a large menu with a lot of variety. My friend and I started with a calamari appetizer, which was great. Then we had a curry dish, a noodle dish, and some fried rice with chicken. They were all bursting with rich flavor. I also enjoy the intimate atmosphere with low lighting and tasteful Thai decor.

I usually only have Pad Thai in Thai places but when I got it here I wasn't crazy about it. So being that it is really close to my home I decided to try some other things on the menu. I got the #72 Noodles and #75 Rice (both with Tofu). They were awesome. My teenage daughter is a picky eater and she even enjoyed it! The staff is very friendly and the decor is very nice for such a small place. I would definitely recommend! They are closed from 3PM-5PM which can be a little annoying when I want to grab something after I pick up my daughter from school though.

The food is good but the service (especially the wait time) is absolutely unacceptable, even on take out orders. As a customer, i don't mind waiting if you tell me the truth and give me an honest wait time, particularly if i call an order in and drive over at the correct time. To find repeatedly that you haven't even started when i get there is not acceptable. Again, the food is good but this is the last time I'm giving you my money. Too many other options around.

I'm not a real big Thai Food fan but once in a blue moon I do get the occasional craving for some Pad Thai and Chicken Satay. Okay, okay more like once a month, okay twice, okay maybe 4 times a month but anyways. There are so many Thai Food joints around where I live it's not that hard to satisfy my Pad Thai fix. Thai Spice in Pinole is definitely one of the better Thai Restaurant in the area. The thing about Thai Spice is that they don't have the best Pad Thai, not the best Chicken Satay, and not the best anything, but for the most part most of the food are above average. In addition to the Pad Thai and Chicken Satay I like their Gai Yang (BBQ Chicken) and sometimes the Fried Calamari (but I have gotten it soggy before). We usually get our food to go from Thai Spice so I never actually eaten in the restaurant, but it looks very nice, a little dark and small, but nice. I must agree with most of the Yelpers, this place is pretty expensive for a not so large portions they serve. So I think I'm going with a 3.43871310 stars but since that's not possible then they will just have to settle for 3 stars.

I've been to numerous Thai restaurants in the bay. I've even been to Thailand and still think this place does Thai food right! Pad Thai is always safe if you're a newb to SE Asian cuisine. If you're feeling dangerous though try the pa nang with beef, the boneless roasted duck over spinach, Tom yum, Thai iced tea or coffee, and mango w/ sticky rice. Another star goes to the attentive and polite service. Thank me later!

Ordered on my way home. Was told it would take 15minutes. Showed up right on time. They proceeded to make me wait an extra 25minutes (I counted...nothing else to do). Occasionally an employee would walk by, giggling, "Not yet hehe." If I had known it would take so long, I would've walked over to the liquor store and kept busy, or just canceled my order. Meanwhile, some random dude (obviously not family), who seemed to be a friend of the owner, shows up, walks in the back to order, then proceeds to get on my last nerve with his loud cell-phone conversation, walking around like the restaurant was his own personal space. There was also a large party of 10 or so, sitting down. These were the reasons my food was delayed for nearly half an hour. At that point, I was thinking an explanation was in order, or even better, since I used to go there all the time, a discount or acknowledgment of their BS. Nothing... Still the best Thai food I've had in the entire bay area, and only a 2-minute walk from home. Went from twice a week, to having avoided it now for 2 months. It's a shame.

I order shrimp spring rolls waited over 20 minutes because the only person that could work the register was not there yet. I paid almost 10 dollars for 3 small rolls only to bite in one and notice its almost all iceberg lettuce. No mint no flavor. So I call and let them know they forgot a pretty important ingredient and they tell me to bring them back. OK I am already home I am not going to take them back. I ask can I dome the next day and what do they say? Yes but bring back the rolls... Huh??? You want me to bring back some shrimp spring rolls the next day I order to get the right item I paid for? I'm done with this place and will never suggest them to anyone. Its all about customer service which they have none.

I see that a lot of other Yelpers are complaining about service and wait time. My experience is different. The service and wait time were okay. It was the food that was disgusting. I ordered Chicken Pad Thai and the sauce was so vinegary that I couldn't eat it. I was also disappointed that they didn't have sticky rice. I also ordered an appetizer the Satay Chicken. It was very dry and didn't have much flavor. When the waitress asked if I was done I said yes and told her the food especially the Chicken Pad Thai was gross. She said she was sorry and offered to have them make me another batch. I told her no and that I didn't want more nasty food. She still charged me for the food I didn't eat, which was very unprofessional.

Great Thai food for a small city like Pinole. Three stars for great service, good food, and decent prices. Come here if you ever find yourself in nice, little Pinole craving Thai food.

The 2 Stars is really not for the food. For a minute, I thought we're not in Pinole. Lots of college crowds, or High School (not too sure.) But yep, they sure make sure their pressence are known. Seems like lots of them are friends with the waitresses working there. On top of the already slow service, customers kept chatting with the waitresses. The bf and I slowly became invisible to them. The wait for the food was long. And I'm usually the patient one. But I can't help it but notice, after 30 mins of wait, and when our Thai Iced Tea's ice were all melted, our tea were watered down, we still didn't get our food. During the whole time, we considered to leave, but was just being hopeful that the food would come out any min now. But nooooo, it was all a dream. The food didn't arrive at the table till one hour later. Waitress said "sorry for the wait" with mono tone. I'm sorry, maybe I was too pissed already to feel any sincereness in that sentence. I mean, C'MON, you saw us sitting there for ONE WHOLE HOUR, watched our Thai Iced Tea became Iced Water Tea, shouldn't you do SOMETHING to pacify your customers? Nope, for the whole hour, no one came to check on us, we were just left there, abandoned. Food came, I mean, yes, food was good. But was it worth the wait? Oh Hell No

My husband loves this place and I pretty much love it too. We have tried almost everything off the menu. Every time we enter this place, we often leave with a tab of 60 dollars between the two of us. If you ever dine here, you definitely have to order the curry puffs. The curry puffs contains lots of flavor that sends your mouth savoring for more. Overall customer service is pretty great and the owner is soo sweet and welcoming. Also the place is beautifully decorated; maybe a little too dim for some but a plus for me!

I've ordered take out from this place and have dined in for lunch from work. I've mainly ordered noodle dishes from here. I've had the pad thai, pad woon sen, and their pad ke-mow. All of these were good, but I've definitely had better. The flavors were there, but each noodle dish was on the more oily side. I realize oil is essential to keep the noodles from sticking into a noodle ball, but it seems a bit excessive if there are oil stains appearing on the takeout box (the small paper ones you get from dining in, the takeout boxes if you order to go are plastic) within minutes of putting in the food. Besides the oiliness, all in all, this is a solid Thai restaurant.

First off, I want to mention that this review does not reflect the quality of food at Thai Spice; their food is actually quite tasty. However, their service sucks. I went there for my birthday dinner with a friend last month. We arrived at 5pm, right when they open for dinner, and the waitress that seated us gave us a dirty look like we were putting her out by arriving so early. We ordered generously because I have eaten there many times (mostly take out) and enjoy their food, plus we were super hungry. Slowly the food came out one by one and everything was fine (although the waitress was still grumpy). When my pad see ew came out though, it looked old and had a weird taste. I only took two bites to confirm that it was indeed gross and called the waitress over. I told her that it was one of my favorite dishes but something was terribly on that day. She took it back to the kitchen and then returned again with the plate in hand explaining that the cook said nothing is wrong with it and because they already made it and they cant send it to another table I will have to pay for it. I told her that I have ordered this dish many times before and that I know what it is supposed to taste like and it was no good and I will not be eating it. She brought it back to the kitchen and then brought it back to us (again!) along with another waitress who repeated the same story about how nothing is wrong with it and I must have ordered the wrong thing but I will still have to pay for it. At this point I was really annoyed and told her to take the dish away and just bring the check. I was spending a lot of money and it's not as if I was trying to scam them, yet they certainly acted that way. I was so bummed after this experience that I can't bring myself to go back and it used to be my go to restaurant. Bummer.

Maybe I came on an off day for Thai Spice, but I honestly don't understand how they have 4 stars. Thai Spice is a relatively small restaurant; they have 15 tables with most maxing out at 4 people. My first message to Thai Spice is PLEASE HIRE MORE SERVERS!! The wait time was ridiculous. My friends and I waited roughly 10 minutes to be seated, 15 minutes to have our order taken, 40 minutes for our food to be delivered, and 5 minutes for our check to arrive. That's a total wait-time of 70 minutes! Seriously. I know you're a busy restaurant, but you need more help! Anyway, by the time the food came, my friends and I were starving and just wanted to be done with the place. Maybe it was the frustration, but I thought the food was pretty regular - nothing special at all. We ordered Tom Yum Gai Soup (Hot and sour prawn soup with lemongrass, tomatoes, mushrooms, and galangal), Gang Ga-Ree Gai (Mild yellow curry pasted in coconut milk with chicken, onions, and potatoes), and Pad Thai (Pan-fried rice stick noodles with tofu, egg, green onions, bean sprouts, and crushed peanut). Basically, not coming back.

I LaLaLa-LOVE YOU THAI SPICE. You're the best I've ever had and I will never again go try a new Thai place. Why? Because of the horrible experiences I've been running into like Dog Food Pad Thai at that disturbing place in Orinda. ANYWAY Thai spice is affordable, convenient and I agree with the other Yelper who said they have the BEST PAD THAI in the Bay Area. Hands down for real. I always get the Pad Thai, Red Curry Duck, & Pineapple Fried Rice. I am a loyal supporter to small businesses like these. Keep it up Thai Spice!! My only request is that you were open during the day so I could eat you for lunch and all day everyday! But I am glad they extended their hours until 10PM. Thai Spice = #1 (everything but maybe not the pad see ew) White Elephant = #2 (pad thai & yellow curry chicken) King of Thai = #3 (for pad kee mao and convenience!!) Everyone else = SUCKS

Lived in this area my whole life, seen this place a gazillion times and I don't know why I never ventured in. I'm glad I did. Lunch dishes are decently priced for the quality of food. The Pumpkin Red Curry had a pleasant sweetness and mild hotness that complemented the intense flavor of the spices in the sauce. I loved it. Only down side was it took almost 40 min to get the food. The host was nice enough but I would've called ahead had I known. BTW the egg roll appetizers were awesome.

We picked up our dinner here tonight on our way home. I gotta say, yeah, the Pumpkin Curry is pretty darn tasty! The Chicken Satay was very good too. The curry fried rice, though, didn't particularly blow my mind and my wife said that the Pad Thai was only so-so. Still, I think they're 4 stars in my book, mainly due to the fact that the area is pretty limited on excellent Thai Food. Thai Spice is fairly solid though. And my wife said service was wonderful while she waited for our pick-up order. Props!

I love thier chicken pad Thai & chicken curry in green sauce . But the BBQ chicken is quite expensive . I ordered one BBQ chicken with chiili sauce. The person on the phone assured me it was a big piece of chicken . I was kind of unsure because the price was 9$. So when we got our food home , set up the table, opened the to- go container... Dun dun dun... One tiny ass piece of chicken. I love my poultry. And with my $9 I could've bought a whole 3lb bag at Safeway. So one star off for misleading the customer of a huge amount of the chickadee!!!

I've came to this place on two separate occasions, and both times been met with less than quality food and service. The first time I came here, I decided to walk here after school from PV (this was like 5 years ago). I ordered pad thai to go, and proceeded to wait for a good 30 minutes before my order was done. 30 minutes for a take out order? Way too long. It was only like 4:00 also, so it wasn't like the restaurant was overflowing with customers. I finally got my food and walked back to campus, only to be met with sub-standard pad thai. This is one of my major gripes about any restaurant. If you can't even cook one of the most popular dishes, then I'm going to immediately assume that the more complicated dishes your restaurant offers are going to be even worse. But hey, I decided to be nice, and I told myself "Hey, take out food is never as good as eating in the actual restaurant". So I still regarded Thai Spice as a restaurant that I could possibly eat at again. That opportunity came when someone in my group of friends mentioned Thai food, and got us all craving it. We decided to come here since it was the closest Thai place. Right when we decided to come here, my mind went "Here's their second chance." The restaurant was very dimly lit. It kind of made for a spooky dinner. Not that I'm saying I enjoy my meals flooded with light, but this place was just depressing to be in. We all ordered our dishes, and in the end it totaled 2 pad thais, pad see ew, pineapple fried rice, and yellow curry. I got the pad see ew, since I wasn't trusting of the pad thai (also my friends ordered it so I could just mooch of their plates). My pad see ew was burnt. Not fully burnt, but enough that it was noticeable, and it gradually took over the flavor. The pad thai tasted slightly better than the first time I had it, but it was still lacking flavor. The noodles were nowhere near sticky enough for me. The pineapple fried rice tasted like fried rice with no pineapple. The yellow curry was pretty darn good though. Tasted like how yellow curry is supposed to taste. So that was strike two for Thai Spice. Dare I risk for a third strike? No thanks :)

I've been coming to Thai Spice for about five years now. I used to come to this place a lot more but I guess I just haven't been in the mood for Thai food in a while -_- I love love love their shrimp pra ram. I have never had anything better. Their pad thai is good too but I wish the portions were a tad bit larger. Their Thai iced tea is one of the best I've had. You know you're picky when it comes to Thai iced tea too, haha. The service is always good and I still think it's cute how they serve the steamed rice for you. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. It's really a hidden gem in Pinole so if you're in need for a Thai food fix, check this place out. It's located conveniently right off the freeway, has a parking lot, and decently priced food!

finally, finally got to taste that duck curry, and i have to say i'm very satisfied. i wasn't expecting much roast duck, but man, i think it was more than i could handle. i did manage to finish the plate and it was good. pineapples, bell peppers, onions, and lots of roast duck covered in a somewhat spicy red curry. but i gotta say, the piece of lettuce laying under the rice is unnecessary and the slice of orange over the rice is also unnecessary. the amount of curry to rice ratio is pretty generous, but you an extra bowl of jasmine rice for $1.50 isn't needed. the roast duck curry is $11.00 for lunch and $12.50 for dinner.

Don't come here if you're hungry. Expect to wait an hour if you only order a main course. If you can stand the wait the food is tasty, but the wait is unacceptably long. The new waitress have a bad attitude.

I've been looking for a local Thai place I can pick up some take out. I think I found it :) I ordered the Pad see eew (sp?) w/prawn. It was very tasty. As I sat and waited for my food to arrive I couldn't help but to stare at everyone else's food. YUMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was a tab bit dark for my taste but it surely worked. I totally envisioned myself coming here for lunch or dinner one day and eating my food there :) The menu was great. Tons of choices and very inexpensive. My food took a little while to come out and I'm pretty sure since it's a small family restaurant that there is only one cook. Can't wait to go back and try other things :)

What a disappointment. I was actually looking forward to trying this local joint because of all the years of driving by it when I lived in Pinole. I placed a to-go order at the counter for three items: Pad Thai, Pad See Ew, and the Chicken Pineapple Fried Rice. It was somewhat strange that the lady didn't even mention how long it was going to take, so I asked. "About 20 minutes" she replied. Okay good, I could make a quick run across the street to Walgreens. I came back on time and attempted to ask about my order. I swear it took a few minutes before they acknowledged I was waiting at the counter. "It should be ready soon, have a seat." And so I did at an empty table. It seemed like the restaurant was clearing out, so I thought my order should be arriving soon. Order after order came out. Not for me. Customers kept coming in, one after the next at to claim their to-go orders. It was at least another 15 minutes of this nonsense. The lady that originally took my order kept walking back and forth, and after she noticed me staring her down with the "where the hell is my order" look, she once again said it would be coming soon. At this point I was ready to flip out. Finally, a guy came out with my order and didn't even say sorry for the wait. 45 minutes from when I placed the order. After all that, who cares about the food? I really wanted to like this place. Reviewers rating this place with more than 2 stars have not had REAL Thai cuisine. Get out more! + The only Thai restaurant in the area - Service is NOT customer-focused - Food flavors confused, lack identity, and overpower each other

Love, love, love the food at Thai Spice. I've eaten there and ordered take-out. My only complaint is when it gets busy they take a little long serving your food because there is only one server. Worth the wait though. My faves are the Pad Thai and the Red Curry!! YUM

Ate here for dinner and ordered fried calamari for appetizer which was delicious, however it was a small portion and bit pricey for $7.50. We also ordered the duck curry, this chicken lemongrass stir fry thing with bell peppers, onions and chili, and also a flat noodle dish with beef, broccoli and gravy! Everything tasted great!

I called in a to go order before they reopened for dinner at 5pm. The lady told me my food would be ready at 5:15pm. When I arrived at 5:20pm my food was not ready - strike one. Then, after paying and waiting patiently I was asked if I wanted steamed rice -- I ordered stcky rice. Then, at 5:40pm I was told they did not have sticky rice and refunded $8.15 for my sticky rice -- strike three. When I went home to try the food I noticed my eggplant dish had 6 pieces of eggplant and a lot of tofu. My pad thai was salty and greasy basically, it was the worst Thai food I have ever tasted. I wouldn't return to that place if they offered me a free dinner. Honestly, if you want good Thai food get in your car and drive to Berkeley to a little place called "Your Place" on University Ave. They have great food and exceptionally good service.

A small family run restaurant. I think that there is only one cook in the kitchen because every time I come here, it takes forever for our food to come. I don't mind because the food is delicious. Last Friday I came here with some friends and waited about 30-40 minutes for our food. We ordered the papaya salad (SPICY) and it was really spicy. Normally when you ask for spicy, they never deliver, but at Thai Spice they don't play around when you tell them you want your food spicy. It was sooo good even though my tongue and lips were on fire! Another stand out dish was the Yellow Chicken Curry. That was really creamy and the chicken was cooked perfectly. They don't serve alcohol there, but they allow you to go to the convenience store next door to get your drinks there. We don't mind b/c it's probably cheaper and there's a larger selection.

Cindy and Jack (the owners) are like family! This is my #1 thai spot in the Bay Area that I have to hit up every time I visit or when I was living there. Small establishment but some of the best authentic Thai cuisine I ever had! I always order the crispy chicken which puts katsu chicken to shame. The chicken skin is super crisp and the chicken meat is so juicy and tender! I loved only tilapia till I tried pompano fish @ Thai Spice! A much cleaner tasting succulent fish that is deep fried, served with a special sauce that has a little tang to it (a good thing)! All their appetizers are delicious from the chicken wings to the curry puffs! I think I dam near ordered/tried everything on their menu =0 When I was living in the Bay Area, I would eat at Thai Spice at least twice a week! That's how good they are! Cindy and Jack are awesome people who provide excellent customer service. If your ever around the Pinole, CA area, stop by Thai Spice, it's a must!!

Five starts for the curry puffs! Yummmmm!!! Four stars for the meal (pumpkin curry and crispy chicken). Three stars for dessert (I've had better sticky rice). Prices are a little high, could have had another full dish for that price at Sala (Tiparos) Thai but I'll still be coming back. Already craving those curry puffs actually...

I have been living in Pinole for 5 years, drove past this place many times and didn't even think of going in due to location (it is in a strip mall folks, next to a liquor store, the worse pizza ever and I think a yogurt place). BUT, my good friends at yelp convinced me otherwise. We decided to try it about 4 months ago and ARE IN LOVE!! I used to live in SF, have tried most of the trendy and not so trendy locations there and while I have had better this is the best I've had in Pinole, or the East bay to be exact. There is one other spot in Albany that is good but too pricey. So, what we always get: Curry Puff - delish, however, not liking the sauce they offer (not a big peanut sauce fan, purchase a bottle of Mae Ploy Chili sauce and thank me later) GANG DANG GAI - To freakin die for, this curry is so amazing. We've also ordered GANG GA-REE GAI and it is just as good, my mouth is watering as I type this. We usually get chicken with these dishes. PAD PRIG-KING with beef, oh my lord, this is heavenly. The spice is just right. I always get a side of Brown rice to sop up the goodness of the sauces. Everything we've gotten there is great, however, I do agree the Pad Thai isn't that great. We did try the KAO PAD KE-MOW yesterday and it was AMAZING!!! Try it, you'll like it! Believe me Yelp folk, you cannot go wrong with this place. We just ordered takeout from there last night, however, had folks over so no leftovers *sigh*

We found this place last minute and can't wait to go back to eat here again. The food was really good. We only ordered the fried rice, chicken basil and spicy catfish in red curry sauce. The catfish was our favorite. The red curry sauce it was cooked in was really, really good. They don't serve beer here but for no charge you can bring your own beer. We're looking forward to the next time we're in the area to eat here again.

Bomb Thai food. A little expensive, but definitely worth it. Their gang garee gai is great and their pumpkin curry is splendid. Pad thai is also good, but small in portion. Have ordered take-out a few times, and plan on doing so again.

I've been going here for years. I used to live in Daly City and used to go to Cindy's sister's Thai restaurant. There's nothing you shouldn't try because it truly is "all good." The seafood dishes are among my favorites.

Thai Spice has been one of my favorite places since it opened over 5 years ago. Great food, reasonable prices and super service. Favorites include Curry Puffs, Spring Rolls, Silver Noodle Salad, Tom Ka Gai, Duck Red Curry, Chicken Red Curry, Roasted Duck on bed of Spinach. I can't list all the fabulous dishes I've had here. The mango and coconut ice creams are fabulous... best I've ever had. I regularly eat in and get take out. Since tasting Cindy's peanut sauce, served with curry puffs, spring rolls and satay, I am unable to have peanut sauce anywhere else... hers is just too perfect! I've read many other reviews and can't believe people have written that the portions are too small. They should get food from the dollar menu at MacDonalds. The portions at Thai Spice are generous, the food is very fresh and the service is friendly and personal. So it might take 20 minutes to get your food. It's worth waiting for and made fresh. The restaurant is decorated beautifully, also. Go there a few times and you'll be greeted by name. This restaurant is a GEM!!! I'm a local business person and have recommended it to many of my clients, who were all delighted with it, too.

I had to write a review after trying the Red Pumpkin Curry. OMG that is my favorite dish. Everything I've tried is darn tasty but the Red Pumpkin Curry is the dish I order for take out every single time. Personally, I think it can be difficult to find really good, really authentic, not overly greasy ethnic food in burbs. This place hits all marks. I'll be back many, many more times......with Red Pumpkin Curry in tow.

We love Thai Spice! I've never eaten in the restaurant, but their take-out is fantastic. Our favorites are the Tofu Pad Thai and Yellow Curry Chicken. We are big fans!

Wish I had read Jennie's review before I tried this place. I ordered take out and when I arrived to pick it up 20 minutes later it wasn't ready....nor at 30 minutes, finally 35 minutes later my food was done. I ordered the fried pumpkin appetizer, yellow curry and chicken pad see ew. The pumpkin tasked good, but they didn't vent the box, so by the time I got it home it was soggy. I will say the dipping sauce was great! The yellow curry was ok...just ok. It had about 5 strips of chicken in the entire container. The pad see ew was just gross! As mentioned by Jennie, the egg was so overcooked it was black, tasted burnt and was not even recognizable as egg. There were 4 tiny broccoli florets in the entire dish and only slightly more chicken. There have got to be better Thai restaurants than this one.

I've been coming here for a few years now. I always order the calamari as an appetizer which is pretty good and the I order the duck for my dinner entree which is very tasty! My husband always orders a spicy beef but he always has to order 2 since the portions are so small. The servers are very friendly and don't bother you too much. On another note, the last 3 times i've been here the food has taken a long time to come out (even when it's not busy) But we will always come to Thai Spice since it's my husbands favorite Thai spot!

I was here on Saturday with Ms. Pho-Phile. We shared the 28 (red curry) and 20 (silver noodle soup) and a rice bowl. As for drinks, I happily drank in the server's sweet young coconuts. The dishes were well proportioned for the two of us. The red curry was not incredibly spicy, which was fine with this white boy. We had a table in the middle, but I was pleasantly surprised by the space around us. The decor and the traditional dress make this place a gem. It's like an epicurean TARDIS: more elegant on the inside than the outside.

So where is Pinole you might ask? It's a little town right after Richmond (north of Berkeley) of I-80 and the last place you would expect an authentic and good Thai restaurant. My in-laws live in the next city over so its always tough finding a spot close to eat for dinner w/out driving to Oakland. Usually we head to the Pacific Plaza in Richmond/El Cerrito where the Ranch 99 is but today, I wanted to eat somewhere close by and saw some reviews from fellow Yelpers and had to try this place out since it was only the next exit. I have to say it was more than what I expected. The decor is very modern and chic; the service was great; and the food - man, it was one of the most authentic Thai spots I've had in Nor-Cal. And trust me, I've eaten at spots in Thai Town, LA so I know what's authentic. The Tom Yum Gai soup; chicken in green curry; ground chicken w/ chili & basil; and beef w/ green beans were all on hit. I did make a mistake of messing wid the waitress and telling her that I wanted the papaya salad 'Thai' spicy and it came out sweat beading down my forehead, tongue numbing atomic spicy. But awesome taste all around. A must for Thai food lovers in the area!!

  • Kelsea L.

When u tell the chef to make the food spicy, they will make it really spicy. I can eat pepper, but boy was this hella spicy. I ordered lad see ewe and my sister ordered pad thai. The chicken wings were good. I just didn't s' not.my first time there bc my food was so spicy, I just took one bite, paid and left. Maybe next time, I wont order.spicy. :( parkin sucks. Not too much parking outside.

Never disappointed. One of my local favs. I've tried many of their dishes and they are all pretty good. The owner works very hard and is at the restaurant most of the time. Cute little place.

Wow! Food is great! I was concerned at first since it's located in a small random plaza, but wow...amazing food! The prices for the dinner plates are cheap! and lunch is even cheaper! Seriously, the best Thai I've eaten outside of Berkeley. Get the Spring Rolls!

  • Stephanie H.

Taste was EXCELLENT. I thought the portion was okay. COuld add a little bit more. Pad Thai had GREAT flavor, as some other restaurants lack it. Customer service was slow. Only had one waiter. It was an older lady. I prefer the younger girl(s) to be serving me. They always give me excellent customer service are very attentive. This one wasn't =( Waited long for water and food. Too many people were ordering take out so I think that was the reason it was taking the food to be cooked and served. Got pretty busy later on though. I would come back again.

We found our new Thai restaurant in Pinole! THAI SPICE Good Food, Good Service and reasonable price. We tried Thai Spice for the first time and it was a very pleasant experience. Got there @ 7pm and we were eating within 20-25 minutes. Impressed with the service provided there was only 1 waitress working. We ordered Pumpkin RED Curry, it's got mix seafood. It was perfect! (not too coconutty and the spices were just right). The House Special with Eggplant (in chef's special sauce) was really delicious. Pad Se-ew was good, better than Sala Thai's. Can't wait to go back and try different dishes. We usually go to Cha-Am in Vallejo but this is our new place for Thai now.

Wow, great Thai food in Pinole? I went here a week go with a friend for lunch, the place was crowded but we were seated pretty quickly. The prices are very well priced $6.50+ for lunch dishes. Yummy!

  • A. C.

It's over price and the food is nasty. They gave us old rice and the portions are super small. Ordered the chicken curry and there was to much coconut milk. The papaya salad is the worse, taste nothing like it. so disappointed! This is just a fake thai place and their food is just sloppy and nasty. Waste of money. You know its not authentic when u see no asians.

I love this little place. Amazing service, always friendly! the food is very consistantly good. well balanced, and they will make it spicy for you if you ask. I haven't ordered any dish that I haven't liked, and not because they all taste the same..I've been to so many Tai food places that everything kinda tastes the same..blahh. This place is one of my favorites..I'll make the extra drive to get Thai Spice, even if I have to pass the three ohter Tai resturants on the way.

  • Chela R.

I absolutely love Thai Spice. Every time I hear one of my friends are going there I fill up with jealousy and animosity because I am not there. LOL. Seriously, this place has delicious Thai food. I used to be a Pad Thai type of gal only (although I have had better pad thai elsewhere), however I am now all about Thai Spice's Cat Fish Curry. Oh man this is the bomb! It is definitely spicy and exquisite! Mmmm... my mouth is watering just thinking about it! It is a favorite there, so I recommend and encourage everyone to try it! Their Yellow coconut curry and panang curries are also delicious and flavorful. It is a small place so patience is virtue while awaiting your food. But seriously... try the Fried Cat Fish Curry! Great food and nice ambiance... always a smile at the end of the meal!

  • Jenna A.

So slow!!!!! It took 30 mins to get a soup and another 10 mins to get a papaya salad and another 10 mins to get a duck. The food in general is overpriced and extremely small portions. Never coming here again, I rather go to the ghetto 23rd st and get rose garden or go to international blvd and get chai Thai noodles. At least the food is good over there and the portions are worth the money. Seriously people don't waste your money here!

Wow, who knew Pinole had good Thai food? I've lived in the area all my life and have driven by Thai Spice many, many times and finally curiosity and a craving for Thai food got the best of me. Very cozy, restaurant space, dim lights, shades drawn to let in the dusky sunlight. So much to choose from, that we went back and forth on curries, pad-somethings, eggplants, and lemongrass dishes. We ended up ordering pumpkin red curry and pad thai with prawns. The pumpkin red curry was delicious. Each bite of pumpkin, scallop, calamari, and oyster was perfectly coated in a mildly spiced red curry coconut sauce. The pad thai was very tasty too, but was a bit too tangy for my liking. The prawns were perfectly cooked. I can't wait to go back and try the other exotic dishes on the menu.

Thai Spice is the place to be! I cannot complain, it's local and can I say good food? I love their Pad Thai, tom ka guy soup, curry puff appetizer, calamari, chicken satay, one of the fish dishes, fried rice, etc! Need I say more? Best of all, they have Thai iced tea and fried bananas for dessert! Yuummmm.. Best advise is to either take out, or call your orders in early so it's ready for lunch. For dinner, cross your fingers because they can accommodate so many per table. First come, first serve basis! Check them out!

  • Aberdo G.

I have only been here for lunch, but it is very tasty, reasonably priced and the portions are just enough. I always go for the spicy dishes and though they are not as spicy as they can be in the city - I almost expect things to be bland in the burbs, the flavor makes up for it. Lunch comes with a bowl of soup. It is definitely one of the better restaurants I have been to in the area.

Yellow curry, yellow curry, yellow curry! The number 29, gang ga-ree gai, is all I ever eat. It is always delicious! The waitress (who is probably also an owner, I have only ever seen her and a cook when I've been there) is always so sweet, and she always knows what I'm going to order! She suggested using some of the hot sauce on the dish and it gives it a nice little kick and even more flavor. Also, the Thai fried rice is out of this world. I have had the egg rolls, too, and they are also quite tasty. Oh, the pad Thai is wonderful, too!!

This is a great hidden away place with outstanding food. The Thai food is consistently good each time we go. This is one of my wife's weekly places for meeting her friends and having a great dinner. The owner is so wonderful and pleasant and makes for a comfortable dinner. Not to forget that the food is terrific! It one block off of Highway 80 exit in Pinole, so it's easy access.

Best Thai Food in Contra Costa County! The owner Cindy is very hospitable and if you go there enough times she will remember your favorite dish and become your friend. I recommend their shrimp pad thai, yellow curry chicken, spicy catfish, basil chicken and their specialty basil duck! I usually don't like duck, but I will eat this dish! I think they are affordable especially compared to Sala!

The past few days i've been ill and now that i'm regaining my appetite, I was totally craving a good soup. I wanted something with great flavors and an intoxicating smell that would make me feel better before i even tasted it.... After mentioning that I had a cold and needed a soup to-go, one of the waitresses told me that she had coconut chicken soup for lunch and that she loves it. (Perfect; that's the soup i was eyeing on the menu!!) It tastes much better than i describe but imagine a good broth flavored with coconut milk, lime, mint(?), ginger, bamboo shoots, mushrooms, thin-sliced chicken, and a whole bunch of other spices that pleased my pallette; paired with a side of rice. Now it's the "morning after" and my chest feels better, Plus I have more soup left in my fridge for when i make myself some rice later. Thumbs up to another delicious meal. I think that when I get well, I'll try the Larb next time.... Four Stars for the Coconut Chicken Soup. An Extra Star for Consistently Good Food & Service

this place kinda sucks! i went here when i was with my ex boyfriend the only reason i wanted to try this restaurant was just my friend told me it was pretty good but it was ehhh not that great and the service is so slow she only came when we didn't want anything then when we got dessert it took them 50 min to make fried banana and ice cream must be kidding me! not a place to go to never coming back.

I've been going to this place once or twice a month for years and I think some of these reviewers must have Thai Spice confused with some other restaurant. The portions are NORMAL size -- standard dishes filled as full as can be. The prices are extremely reasonable -- dinner for 2 for under $25! Service is NORMAL pace -- I've never waited more than 5 minutes for a table or more than 15 minutes for my meal. It's not a fast food joint folks. The food is consistently good, especially the specials. See the other reviews for some great suggestions. I have to agree that I don't much care for the pad thai.

I used to live in pinole and would come here almost every week. I was sad once I moved away as this is probably one of the best thai places in the bay area. The dipping sauce with the fresh spring rolls is delicious. Pad thai is hands down the best in bay area. Pad se ew is tasty, and they don't drown it in oil. I still come back once a year and they never let me down.

i'm satisfied. great lunch prices -- you can get a dish for $6.50-$7.50. i got this rice dish thing with chicken + lemongrass + red/green bell peppers + onions + cashew + chili peppers. i have no idea what it's called. but it was pretty damn good. the chicken was tender the sauce was very flavorful. not to mention i love cashews. pineapple fried rice was good too. not too greasy, which i am very happy about. the decor is real nice. friendly service with a homely feel. the food took a while to be prepared but if you're willing to wait it's worth it. one thing though, all of the dishes that my friends and i ordered ended up LOOKING the same even though they were different. they all had some sort of meat + red/green bell peppers + onions. the meat was cooked differently and the sauces tasted different but the presentation was identical. it's not really a bad thing, just an observation that i found kind of amusing.

Nice small thai restaurant in Pinole. Seems like a mom and pop place. As I walk by the kitchen on my way to the restroom, I saw just two "woks" and stoves going. It's pretty amazing how quickly they can pump out dishes with two stoves. Props to them. As with most thai restaurant, really nice decor and good service. We had a big group so we were able to order quite a few dishes to try. The best dish of that day was defintely the red curry catfish and their duck. The rest of the curry dishes seemed a bit more watery then I expected. My only gripe about this place is that the portions are really small. Either that or my appetite is just getting bigger.

Delicious Thai Food! Great service. Can be a little slow at times, since they are always busy, but the food is worth the wait.

  • Mark A.

Like most people say, the owner is very nice and does a great job. I have one complaint. The service can be pretty slow when busy. It is a family run restaurant, so their help is limited in numbers. That said, here are the things that I like about Thai Spice: Good veggie and meat choice - important for my veggie friends Really good curries - Gang ga ree and Pa nang Yes, good soup!! the Tom ka guy is tasty Goong hairs!! wonderful shrimp things and curry puffs are wonderful too.

I went here once with my daughter because we love Thai food. We always get the Pad Thai and sticky rice. However this place does not have sticky rice. The Pad thai was disgusting! It tasted like they poured vinegar all over it. Plus it was very expensive and I didn't even hardly eat anything. The decor inside is very nice though. But I would rather have better food than a pretty environment.

  • B H.

The best Thai ever. Portions are reasonable, the food is FRESH and their Thai Iced Tea (on the sweet side) is Yum. Unlike a lot of Thai restaurants, you can tell their Green Curry is not made from paste!! Best Pad Thai as well..... Nice aesthetics, friendly service and inexpensive.

  • Moira W.

Love this place, although no small part of my love for it comes from the fact that it is in a tiny strip mall in Pinole. One of the things I miss the most about Oakland is the widely available variety of delicious food from all nations. Pinole is definitely suburban, but this place is delicious. I particularly love the Spring Rolls with warm peanut sauce and some sort of amazing eggplant dish. The interior of the restaurant is way nicer than you would expect from its location, and I have never gotten anything but great service there. They do have a $10 or $12 minimum for using credit cards, which is not unreasonable.

    (5)
  • Sam C.

My family's favorite Thai place ever since they opened in 2005! We love the food, the service and their Springs rolls are the bomb!! If I go to other Thai places the spring rolls are not fresh but this place has never let me down. Their side sauces are not overpowering like some places do but boy they can make stuff spicy as hell so if you are into spicy stuff ask for extra spicy. Give this place a try!

  • Crystal G.

I absolutely LOVE this restaurant! It's the best keep secret, but it won't be for long! You can't get more authentic Thai food anywhere else. The service is a tad bit slow, but it's worth it! I would recommend the curry duck and their appetizers are very good also.

I LOVE Thai Spice. The decor is lovely, the owner is lovely, and the food is incredible. Too often when I visit a Thai restaurant, everything is almost syrupy-sweet - particulary the Tom Kha. I went for the first time last night, and the Tom Kha Tofu was the perfect balance of creamy-sweet and citrus-galangal fresh. Yum. Also had the Pumpkin Seafood Red Curry and Som Tum. Both were expertly prepared (they let me peek in the kitchen while they were cooking - and even offered me a shot to tequila while I waited) and the Som Tum was the freshest I've ever had. Definitely coming back soon!

One thing I miss about working in Hercules is the proximity to Thai Spice in Pinole! Now that I have joined Yelp, I owe this place my 5 star review. I used to go here a lot for lunch and I could say that I've tried almost everything on the menu and there isn't anything that I don't recommend. I especially like the spring rolls, catfish dish, and the pumpkin curry. The food here is always fresh and flavorful. I believe it's the best I've had outside of Thailand. The portions are just right and the price is very reasonable. The customer service is excellent. Cindy, the owner, is super nice and she pretty much runs the show. The restaurant is small and it can get packed during peak lunch hour.

The owners of the Bear Claw gave me a heads-up on this place. I ordered curry as I usually do when I'm at a Thai place, and it was spectacular. It was just right, not too spicy, the meat and potatoes were cooked right, and I loved the soup itself. I need to come back to this place. One of the few places in Pinole to get my seal of approval.

A friend asked me awhile back if I had eaten at this place and I had told him "Nope." Everytime I passed by Thai Spice I thought it was some divey fast food Thai place next to a liquor store and a pizza place. Well thanks to yelp, I know it's a nice Thai restaurant with good food that's located next to a liquor store and a pizza place. I was shocked at how nice the inside of this place was. It's small, but nice. As far as the food goes, I decided to engage beast mode on a Friday night and order the yellow curry, pad thai and fried egg rolls. The eggrolls were ok, nothing spectacular. I enjoyed the curry very much even though I wish it was a bit spicier. I got medium heat since I didn't wanna burn my lips off with spicy heat, though next time I think I'll go with spicy. The Pad Thai was good. The noodles were not soggy and it was very tasty. Overall, I think the food was good and I will definitely be going here again. 2.5 Stars for food 1 Star for location- it's right down the street from my house. Update: Got a order of Curry Puff, Pad Thai and Fried Banana with Ice Cream last week. The Curry Puffs were pretty good. I enjoyed the sauce it came with. The Pad Thai was good. The Fried Banana with Ice Cream was very disappointing. The ice cream had a very icey texture, not smooth and creamy. The banana did not have any real flavor either. It was a very lackluster end to a good dinner. Update. Well I'm gonna say this place is a solid 3.5. I've eaten her a few times since it is down the street and I've gotten the some of their other dishes and they are just ok. It's not bad food, but it's not great. I do enjoy that it's down the street from my house, but the food could be better. Not a bad spot.

Traditional Thai decor - great customer service - extremely friendly.... reminds me of the Cheers experience... but without the jovial "ROSE!!" - but close enough. I really love the bbq chicken - everything else is okay in comparison. Decent place for lunch.

Do you like Thai food? This place has great Thai food. The owners are super nice. Cindy cooks everything just how I like it and I am a picky eater. Fast service, delicious food. I love this place. And I love the owners. Thank you Thai Spice! Normal lunch prices and normal dinner prices for a Thai place. Probably a bit on the inexpensive side. Fresh and fast, my favorite Thai restaurant in California.

I was feeling adventurous one night but at the same time I was leery of ordering the same type of Thai dish( pad Thai, masaman lemon grass coconut soup). So I ordered some spicy dish with exotic spices ( sorry can't remember the exact dish name). It hit the mark and I left there very very satisfied.

Great Thai food i. Try the Angel Wings - wonderful. I live in Point Richmond and there is a definite dearth of good restaurants in Richmond. The Thai restaurant in the Point is frightening. I've been to Thai Spice a few times and enjoyed.
