I ate here for dinner on New Year's Day and had a very good experience. My boyfriend and I sat out on their heated patio near the fireplace. The ambiance was cozy and intimate with twinkling lights. Our waitress was all over it and took great care of us. We started with a few cocktails that were perfectly prepared and then shared a salad before we dove into our entrees. We ordered a mild fish that was perfectly cooked with delicious sauteed vegetables and a mediterranean style pasta. Both were delicious but the highlight of our meal was the sour cherry crisp FOR SURE. Great place for romantic, intimate ambiance and excellent food if you are visiting Ojai!

Went for lunch driving through Ojai. Had the trout special and bratwurst sandwich both were delicious. Nice ambiance good service.

In Ojai for just one night, wanted a really good dinner--we got it! Suzanne's was great! Friendly and helpful staff, great drinks, delicious food, lovely presentation! As others have said, the bread basket alone is worth the trip! It was really hot outside but the patio was lovely and cool. Enjoy!

Outstanding. I go there everytime I come to Ojai, ths trip I went twice. The food is delicious, the wait staff attentive and kind. The patio is beautiful and relaxing. The food was fresh and delicious, the heirloom tomato salad I have ever tased and the desserts are some of the best I have ever had. The cafe liegeois de la maison was amazing!

We came here for a bachelorette party dinner (before hitting up the local bars of Ojai!), and the entire evening was perfect! We sat outside on the patio amongst the softly lit lanterns and xmas lights and enjoyed top notch martinis and sangria to start. We continued with warm bread, deliciously inventive and comforting entrees, and to-die-for desserts (...still thinking about the triple mousse and ice cream with irish cream!). I especially appreciated how the waitstaff ensured that the evening was special for the bride-to-be, even down to writing "Congratulations" in chocolate on each dessert.

We're on a trip to Ojai to celebrate our anniversary and decided this would be a great restaurant to have dinner on our last night. I read on various sites that this was the place to dine in Ojai and read in a magazine that it was one of the top restaurants to dine at in the Santa Barbara area, plus 4 stars on Yelp...can't go wrong, right? But I was SO disappointed. It's a cute restaurant. The menu items sounded appetizing. We started with the crab and corn cakes. It lacked flavor...even with the lemon sauce it was served with. My husband said he wouldn't be surprised if it was a store bought frozen item. My husband ordered the pork medallions and I ordered the chimichurri marinated rib eye cooked medium. My rib eye did come out medium but I was surprised when it came out without the bone. I've just been so used to having bone in rib eye, I guess. The steak was also overly salty. According to the waitress they marinade the steak in soy sauce. I must have misunderstood. I thought the steak was marinated in chimichurri sauce which doesn't include soy sauce. It came topped with a few slices of green onion. I guess that's supposed to be the chimichurri part of it? I took a few bites of my husband's pork and that was much better than my entree. However, it wasn't anything to rave about. The waitress was very nice and service was okay. Only thing that made us raise our eyebrows was that we asked to take our leftovers to go just in case we were starving later in the night back at our hotel room and our waitress came back with BOTH of our plates in ONE container. My steak ended up being on top of the pork's sauce. WHY ruin the food even more?! Needless to say, we aren't touching the leftovers! I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Not worth the money I paid. :( I'm giving this place a star just because the people there seemed nice and complimented our baby. Flattery always gets me!

Was so looking forward to dinner tonight. Made res a month ago. Craving pasta and menu had decent selection. I should have known better. Fusilli was way over cooked. Soggy. Marinara sauce was bland. Tasteless. Meatballs had no flavor. Was afraid of further disappointment, so passed on dessert. I give two stars because atmosphere was nice and staff professional. My biggest pet peeve is over paying for terrible food. So disappointed.

Started the evening with hot freshly baked banquette and dark olive bread. The chefs recommended Chardonnay. We had a Mâché salad with pine nuts and feta cheese and shrimp dumplings and dipping sauces sided with green beans in a lettuce cup. Our entree was Rigatonni with sausage and zucchini with Carmelized tomatoes. To finish, the absolute best dessert ever baked pineapple, mascarpone cream with coconut ice cream and strawberries. Excellent food. Bruce was our server. Excellent service. Beautiful gardens.

Found this restaurant by using "yolp" to search. We were here for lunch on Friday April 17th and returned on Sunday April 19th also for lunch. Made reservations for Sunday. Table was ready for us when we arrived. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Herb roasted half-chicken was excellent. "Salade Nicoise" was very good. Ham & Cheese sandwich "special" was very good. Duck Salad was good but certainy not as much Duck as you see in the picture posted above. The Crab Salad was terrible. No flavor or seasoning to the Crab. Would have sent it back if we had not had friends with us. Fudge Brownie & Lemon Custard w/berries were very good. You can skip the Triple Mouse. The Lillies throughout the restaurant were beautiful. Will probably go back but will order more wisely.

I wasn't super excited about this place. The outside is cute-nice vines growing on the front. We sat on the outside patio which overlooked a small garden and fountain. The seats were angled for us to look out into the garden but it's really not that exciting of a view. The menu was pretty boring. I had the Bronzino which was fine but it came with plain white rice on the side. For an appetizer, I had the brussels sprouts which really weren't very tasty. Our server didn't seem very interested in his job. We had lunch at a pasta place downtown (Osteria something) which was way better.

This is a great place to go for lunch if your are visiting Ojai. It is quite formal and the prices are more expensive than other lunch spots but the attentive service, delicious food and ambience are worth the money. Even the Iced Latte's are super fancy.

Had a lovely lunch here with the bf. Suzanne's has a very ladies who lunch/chardonnay crowd vibe, if you know what I mean. It's cute; it works. I was most surprised by the service, as it was fairly formal and attentive (e.g., bringing a new set of flatware and plates with every dish, topping off our wine throughout the meal). I enjoyed it, but it was not expected. Food was tasty and well prepared. Burratta on crostini special was wonderful, crab salad OK, salmon sandwich quite nice (so happy salmon was not overcooked! how rare is that?), flourless chocolate cake a bit too dense even for flourless, very nice espresso. It was lots of fun. I'd love to try it at dinner.

Overall the food, as well as the service and ambiance, is good not great. I felt like that needed to be said for the out-of-towners who are looking up places to dine in Ojai on Yelp. We felt the food was a tad overpriced for the quality. My wife had the chicken piccata while I had the sole. Both our dishes were served with white rice and steamed vegetables, something you might be served at a wedding banquet. Like I said earlier, it was just ok, not great and the plates were around $30 each, a bit over-priced.

Started with the mussels and a butter lettuce salad, followed by the rib-eye for me and the seafood sampler for my wife. The rib eye was perfectly cooked (medium rare) and I really liked the seasoning. I didn't love the vegetables -- I thought they were a little mushy -- but I usually don't eat my veggies anyway. We ended with the creme brûlée and fruit crisp. The creme brûlée tasted great, though we thought it had a slightly heavier texture than we're used to (still recommended, but share it because it is so rich), and the fruit crisp with peaches was exactly the fruity liquified-sugar-and-oatmeal goodness I was hoping for that is so hard to find. The service was very attentive and the atmosphere was calm and quiet. We sat inside at about 7pm on a Monday because the patio was full, and I don't think that hurt the experience at all. Overall, very glad that we ventured outside the Inn for this.

My wife and I planned a trip to Santa Barbara/Ojai Valley Inn for the week between Christmas and NYE. I did my typical pre-trip research and found Suzanne's Cuisine, which seemed to be the closest thing to a sure thing for a quality NYE dinner. I called and had a pleasant conversation with them in early December and made our reservation. All set. We arrive at 6pm for our reservation and were seated promptly. The exterior is very attractive, lots of greenery but the interior is stuck in 1992 Olive Garden-esque decor minus the fake ficus trees. Waiter stops by and and asks if we would like a complimentary cocktail or glass of champagne, wife gets the champagne, I order a martini, hopes are high! *This is where things take a turn for the worse.* Open the menu and there are approximately 25 dishes, starting with soup on the top left corner to "assorted roasted vegetables" on the bottom right and a note underneath. "Choose one of each items - $100 per person". So now we are confused, are these 1-2 or 3 courses? Around this time two different salads are dropped off in front of us? Super confused, I get up and ask the water guy to have someone to come over and explain what's going on. Before anyone arrives the same guy who drops off the salads returns, removes them and takes them directly to a different table. Keep in mind we have been here for 15 minutes and no one has delivered our drinks, explained the menu, provided recommendations and been delivered salads we hadn't ordered and weren't described and then removed. Clunky, but all forgivable at this point, it is NYE after all, right? Our sever now stops by and explains, make one selection from the left side, one from the right and we will get access to the "NYE Dessert Buffet"..... seems pricey for 2 menu items, a dessert and "complimentary" drink, but maybe the food is "that good"? SERVER: So, what would you like? DW: Can you give us some recommendations? Any can't miss items? We're flexible and hungry? SERVER: Yes, Everything! It's all good! I haven't tried everything but it is all good. DW: uhhh, okay? (Server then begins to read each of the menu items in order) SERVER: Are you ready to order? DW: Give us just a moment. He returns a few minutes later, my wife and I both order the ravioli trio in brown butter (which he says are made in house) and steaks (wife ordered the filet with peppercorn sauce and I get the prime ny strip with mushrooms and bleu cheese). When I asked for a glass of wine to recommend with the ravioli, the server suggested "White".... I chose A to Z pinot noir.... Ravioli was literally 3 pieces of pasta (suspiciously the size of a wonton wrapper) folded in half diagonally with a 1.5 tsp of filling served on a plate of melted butter. (I love a good bowl of pasta swimming in melted butter at 2am as much as the next guy, but C'MON) Portion is puny, fillings were underwhelming (and near non-exsistent) and the butter was luke warm and certianly no where near browned/nutty/delicious as advertised. Around my last bite of raviolo, my pinot arrived without apology. From a scan of the room, all wine (by the glass or bottle) are served in universal everyday wine glasses filled about 1 cm from the top aka The Applebees Pour.... Steaks arrived and are both huge and cooked to requested temps. BUUUUT, they lacked seasoning and I take exception with the "Prime" descriptor on my NY Strip. However, the most offensive part was the sides. The steaks are decorated on the plate with a singular elementary cafeteria scoop sized/shaped orb of flavorless, lukewarm mashed potatoes. Accompanying those were about 14 sticks of equally flavorless par-cooked carrots, asparagus and green beans. NEWSFLASH, crunchy vegetables belong on a salad bar or crudite platter. Not as an accompaniment to a friggin steak. I won't lie, I ate it. It wasn't good, but I was starving. The dessert bar was a mish mash of typical country club fare, cheese cake, flourless chocholate cake and about as equally tasty. As I understand, Suzanne was a home cook who quit her job in finance in the 1980s and started cooking full time. I hazard to bet that some of the items on the menu are in fact tasty and I would be happy to eat........ AT SOMEONE'S HOUSE. Unfortunately from my perspective the food doesn't come close to what you should be charging $100 pp for 2.5 courses with clunky service. Maravilla the night before was a much better option and actually a bargain comparatively. When we walked back in the Ojai Valley Inn someone passed us with a box of pizza and a bottle of wine. We were jealous.

Beautiful place, great staff, but I had to eat my food quick and taste it on the way back to our hotel, because we had our 3 year old, who kept saying " I don't like this place" so that should tell you that the place is very nice and romantic.... They have a nice patio area with a little garden to look out to, nice... My rib eye was amazing, the bread was amazing, baby arugula salad amazing, but the escargot is not there yet, it needs a lot of work? It was my first time trying it and I was expecting a lot of flavor, but I was let down by it. I'm not an escargot expert, but my wife is, she grew up on it, she has great memo motors of her vacations in Europe on her way to ski and stopping at the local towns to have escargot,so she had to have it and once she tasted it, she just gave me that weird smile, but she knew better than to complain to me, because when she asked me if she should order it, I told her that I would not go to Ojai to have escargot... But in their defense, they have a lot of great choices on their regular menu then a special menu and daily specials as well, so there is a lot to chose from. I'm definitely going back to this place when I go back up Ojai next month..

Great food, great service. Arrived without a reservation and was seated in the inside dining area which is fine but was quickly upgraded to a patio seat right by the rose garden. It was our anniversary so we were thrilled. I had wild salmon with a pixie orange glaze and forbidden rice with an incredible array of veggies-perfect! Husband had "the best steak ever" with an ancho cili sauce and amazing potatoes. Dessert was a sorbet trio of olallieberry, mango and apricot and a big fancy plate with "HAPPY ANNIVERSARY" written in dark creamy chocolate on the plate. What a great experience! One of the other diners had a bit too much to drink and the waitress had a cab waiting outside by the time they paid their bill, pretty impressive.

My family and I enjoyed an early Friday night dinner last weekend. We ordered cocktails, appetizers, and dinner. The drinks and wine were fine. The warm bread, butter, olives and olive oil were delicious! The escargo was a bit garlic heavy and rubbery, but our steaks, salmon, scallops and pasta dishes were perfection. Friendly service, and elegantly casual atmosphere. We live in Ventura so we shall return. We also bought farm fresh eggs that the owners' granddaughters sell at the restaurant.

Best restaurant I've had in a long time. And I dine out in LA a lot. This is 5 star type food with an extensive Americana/Bistro/Eclectic menu. The highlights: Spicy shrimp and jumbo goat cheese stuffed shells were perfect. The pasta in the cream sauce was also a home run. The oysters however were not fresh and they had tons of chunks of shells which ruins it for me. Wine corkage fee was $20 and service was stellar. Deserts there are a must. But split them because they're huge. The cherry crumb crisp was heavenly but rich. Ambiance is romantic and most of the restaurant in an indoor/outdoor half tent/half structure with a fireplace and heat lamps.

Plenty parking in lot. Lunch is good, though nothing out of this world. Plenty of gourmet sandwiches, salads, appetizers, and desserts to choose from. Best part is the ambiance which is nice indoors and out (covered patio adjacent to a garden). 1. Spinach Salad (with apples, Gorgonzola, almonds)- Good 2. Roast Beef on French Baguette sandwich- Good, though I could only eat a little of the Wasabi sauce which shot right up my nose.. I'd prefer a Roast Beef dip sandwich if they made one. 3. Salmon Salad- Good 4. Double Chocolate Mousse- Tastes like a room temperature, buttery white and dark chocolate ice cream. Tasty, but I can pass. I heard they have Coffee Mousse at dinner. 5. Dark Chocolate Ice Cream- If you like dark chocolate, you have to try this!

The melt-in-your mouth Heirloom tomato salad left our taste buds begging for more ... But not so much for the veggie Reuben (with soggy bread). My smoked chicken salad was delightful along with the service, beverage and wine selections. Request a seat on the patio closest the fountain and gardens (weather permitting your comfort). Nice ambiance, including the bar.

Actually 4.5 stars! This place is simply amazing. I had an OK time in Ojai because of other factors but Suzanne's really made up for my trips shortcomings. Overall, the food (quality, and taste) was amazing. The service was great too and the ambiance was relaxing. We ordered: -- Cornish Hen (4/5) -- Prime Rib (5/5) - in the words of my bf, "its stupid good!" :) -- Escargo (4.5/5) - use the delish bread to sap up all the butter mmm! -- Creme Brulee (4/5) It was a nice, slow and relaxing meal over wine. I would highly recommend Suzanne's cuisine! Overall rating: Food 5/5 Service 4.5/5

We recently played golf at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa and dined at Suzanne's Cuisine afterwards. The menu was fabulous with many delicious options it was hard to choose.. I had the Sand Dabs which were prepared perfectly. My hubby had a Rib Eye with a slight Chipotle seasoning and it was delicious. The apple crisp was also very good, and service was excellent. Definitely going back to try more of the menu.

The grounds are BEAUTIFUL. Lights in the trees surrounding a lovely restaurant had us excited about a romantic evening full of delicious foods. We showed up early and they still sat us almost immediately. Upon walking in and giving our names the hostess said "It'll be a minute, it looks like you're about 15 minutes early for your reservation". In an establishment where dinner for two can cost two hundred dollars, an establishment that purports to be "upscale" or "Fine dining", it isn't apropos to mention that a guest is early for a reservation. The correct response is, "Please give us a few minutes to make sure your table is ready." Before I talk about the food I feel I owe some credentials: My partner is a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and a professional chef. I am a person who lives with and eats food made by a graduate of Le Cordon Bleu and a professional Chef. We love food! From $2 street tacos to Foie Gras, we don't discriminate based on price, only on flavor and execution. We had the crab cake as an appetizer. The dish was fine, the crab flavor was not overwhelmed by anything in the cake, which was great, however, the sauces that the crab cake were served on lacked distinct flavor. So "just okay". My partner ordered the Sauteed Shrimp with goat cheese stuffed shells. I ordered the Filet Mignon with mashed potatoes and vegetables. There were several Shrimp dishes, but only one which described the shrimp as "sauteed", so my partner only said "Sauteed shrimp". When the dishes came out my partners dish was not the correct dish. The waitress immediately apologized (good) then said "you didn't say which shrimp dish! we have several!" (not good). It should go without saying that if you have several similar dishes, go back to the customer for clarification. If you don't do that, don't go back to the customer and politely imply that the mix-up was the customers' fault. The kitchen remade my partners dish very quickly, it couldn't have taken more than 5 minutes. Very impressive. They brought both dishes back out and we dove in, excited to experience food that had received such rave reviews. The filet mignon (which I selected with the $2 "Pasture fed local" add-on) was excellent. I have had real Kobe beef in Japan and the texture of the pasture fed filet from Suzanne's was second only to that beef. I ordered the entree Medium-Rare and it was closer to Rare, especially in the center, however I'd prefer the kitchen err on the side of making a steak too rare than overcooking it. The mashed potatoes were thoroughly unimpressive. They weren't as good as some chain mashed potatoes (the Redskin mashed potatoes from The Cheesecake Factory exceeded these in flavor and consistency, for example). The vegetables (carrot, asparagus, green beans, broccoli) were perfectly cooked, still crispy in the center, and tasted fresh. They just didn't taste very good. Almost no salt was added, they felt fine but had little flavor. The potatoes and vegetables were both very disappointing. Overall, for the price of the entree (North of $40) I would have expected perfectly executed steak and a little vision with the potatoes and vegetables. What I got could've come out of my mothers kitchen any time in the last 20 years. The Shrimp and Shells was likewise unimpressive. The shrimp was well cooked and the shells stuffed with goat cheese, what's not to like? But the sauce was bland and the shells lacked any flavor designed to compliment the goat cheese. The pasta of the shell may have been housemade but didn't seem like it based on consistency. For desert we had Flourless Chocolate Cake and an Apple Crisp, respectively. The Housemade ice cream on the apple crisp was the best thing I had all night. Both deserts were completely adequate, which is to say, they tasted exactly like similar deserts ordered at any chain sit-down restaurant would taste. They stood out in no way whatsoever. And that's the problem that Suzanne's has. Their food is completely adequate, but I didn't taste anything that made me say "wow! I want more of that!" and the dinner was around $150 after wine and before tip. If this dinner had cost us $40-60 this would be a three star review. As it is, it's more like 1.5 stars. The meal was absolutely unacceptable for the price, and the excellent ambiance does not do enough to make up for the unexciting food and several missteps in service. Suzanne's is serving fare that might have cut it in the 80's, but doesn't stand up to the expectations of the modern epicurean. For fine dining in Ojai, go to Osteria Mount Grappa. It's half the price and ten times better.

Once again, found this restaurant based on great Yelp reviews. Wow. What a find. Setting - exquisite, from decor and napkin holders to flowers on the tables and butter saucers. Garden - gorgeous. Food - outstanding, delicious, fresh, delicate (I had smoked chicken salad with pinenuts and my hubby had meatball sandwich). Wine selection - perfect (we had a glass of Cote Du Rhone, which was great, although I normally go for California wines) Bread, butter - yum!! (I am a butter snob) :) Staff attitude - couldn't be any better, they were so welcoming! Fresh flowers everywhere, including bathroom. I think it was the first time I ever said, "wow, the bathroom smells great!" :) We sat there for lunch, and it was so idyllic that after a long day in Santa Barbara we ended up returning there for late evening dessert/espresso. And it was all very, very reasonably-priced. Cannot wait to be back. Thank you, Suzanne and family and staff! :)

I'm fairly new to Yelp and would rather be positive than negative about a business. That said, 4 of us went to Suzanne's on Feb. 21 and we all were about as disappointed in the food as you could be (short of some health issue). The ambiance was nice and our waitress, while not super attentive, was charming. The food? I'm not sure an average restaurant could unwillingly prepare such bland/ items missing/ unedible entrees and apps. I'm no food snob but grilled veggies should have the nuts/cheese according to the menu. The dumplings were salted to the 9's (ironic compared to everything else being under seasoned), The salmon entrees were blaaaaaand (but cooked well!) and, the piece de resistance (sp), linguine and clams were uneaten by both the dudes at the table. Truly, one of the worst dishes I've ever had at a rest. Can't remember the other entrée but never heard a good/decent word about anything served so I assume it wasn't anything special. We skipped desert. The place was packed and businesses have off nights but, in our case, none of us would go back there again in a million years.

Mixed feelings about this place... A friend and I had for reservations for dinner and specifically requested to be seated in the outdoor patio, but our plans changed and we called to see if we could be seated earlier than the time we had reserved. They accommodated our request and was able to seat us promptly upon our arrival, but of course we lost our outdoor seat. We saw that they had a few empty tables outside, so we figured we'd try our chances and ask if we could be seated outside, but was turned down. Oh well, completely understandable, but thought we'd ask. I ordered the seabass and my friend ordered the bouillabaisse... which was amazeeeeeballz!! Out of this world.. the broth was seasoned to perfection, generous portions of super fresh mussels, clams, shrimp and fish. DELISH and definitely a must try! My seabass, however, was a total FAIL... it was dry and over done, the side of veggies were skimpy and boring... just a few pieces of asparagus, broccoli and carrots... it took some convincing for me to have the courage to send it back, but our waitress was very nice about it. The service was really great, but we definitely felt the shift in attitude after I sent back my dish. I felt bad about it, but it wasn't my fault that the dish was not properly prepared... Later we also realized that those empty seats on the patio actually remained empty even after we paid the bill and left, so that was super disappointing that we couldn't be seated there... Overall, it was an OK experience, but I doubt I'd return if I'm ever in the area again.... bummer!

I concur with Susan: 4.5 stars and for Ojai? 5 stars for sure. I met the husband in SB once at a charity event for CALM held at the Montecito Country Club: wine, jewelry, chocolate. He was wonderful but I can't remember his wine or his name as it was some time ago. Suzanne's has been around forever and it has a moving backstory: it's a mother/daughter operation. The mother loves food and always has cooked. The daughter, as I recall, was a hotshot MBA/finance type and decided to use her skills in a more meaningful way by opening up this restaurant. It's been a huge success and the patio is a stunning, peaceful place to eat, gaze on the sculptures and enjoy wine with a friend. I've been there at least three times in the past 15 years (once after spending a few days at the Oaks at Ojai in 1997, a "schlumpy" spa where high-powered LA women came for decades to get away from LA and just take care of themselves and/or lose weight. (Women who want a fancier spa experience now go to the Ojai Valley Spa but the Oaks used to attract a lot of celebrities who didn't want to worry about makeup or their looks.) I ate a couple of times in 2009 /2010 and both meals were just as good as I had remembered. They have a salmon pasta salad I loved and the meals are exquisitely conceived and prepared. I'm not big on dessert but remember the chocolate mousse being quite special. A must if you're in Ojai and really, it's only about 20 minutes inland from the 101 when you're driving between SB and LA. I have meant to go back many times and when a FB friend mentioned it, I thought I'd write a review.

Ah, the butterfish! That was the all star the eve of July 4 when, after a trying day, we turned to Suzanne's for bodily and spiritual sustenance. We were not let down. The wine list was excellent. Appetizers spot on. Veggies done to a turn. But it was the butterfish, prepared simply and delicately, that will stay with us long after we have forgotten our high school principal's name and where we put the flashlight. We had never heard of this fish. Flaky and full of flavor, it truly melted in our mouths. It was orgasmic, I don't know how else to describe it. Go there. Order it. Then you will understand.

I came here after reading in the AAA westways that the restaurant had received a golden star for their chocolate mousse. The dessert was a decadent delight. I also had the caprese sandwich which was delicious with fresh tomatoes and mozzarella and side salad. I will definitely return for lunch as the dinner menu is quite pricey.

Suzanne's can be relied on to offer consistently excellent service and cuisine. Enjoyed a birthday celebration last evening. Pam roasted salmon and may tag blue cheese Cesar were excellent. Enjoyed the lemon and berry tart as well as apple crisp for desert . Everyone in our party was very happy with the experience . I gave 4 stars because the lighting was a bit brighter than I prefer when in a fine dining experience . Will definitely return . Will try to plan far enough ahead so we can reserve a table on the patio

Having just moved to Ojai with my wife whose family grew up here, Suzanne's was our pick for her bday dinner. Great experience from start to finish! They had a great covered patio that I highly recommend sitting on. We started with mushroom soup and Caesar salad (both great, but the soup was better). I had a ribeye and my wife had a white fish. We loved that the food was all full of flavor and well-seasoned. The marinade on the steak was unreal. The staff, the food, and the comfortable outdoor patio made a perfect birthday dinner spot. Can't wait to go back.

Had our rehearsal dinner here for my wedding last month. We had about 20 people and they set up a great limited menu with our input. We sat on their little patio so it was more or less private. The food was amazing and everyone was so stuffed at the end. Everyone raved about how great it was. My mother in law is the one that booked it so I'm not sure on the price but she mentioned they were easy to work with. Would recommend if you're in the area.

Will keep this brief. This is our second time in 6mos and it was fantastic both times. Enjoyed it even more tonight as we were with two couples and we got to see even more of this incentive and varied menu. Server was straightforward, knowledgeable. Our dishes spanned from escargot to sea bass to pasta to shrimp to of course the generous and delicious homemade desserts. I think this would be a top restaurant in any city (I've lived in Boston, NYC, LA, Santa Barbara) so I'm perplexed why it wouldn't have 5 stars. A few bad experiences and the 1-star reviews drag it down I suppose. Well, I'm here to average it up. Keep on keepin' on, Suzanne!

I'm a bit of a foodie and don't give 4 stars easily, but after only one visit to Suzanne's I'm very impressed. Special appetizer zucchini flower stuffed with warm goat cheese served with creamy marinara: wow! Tasty but not too filling. The sole entree was perfectly cooked and sauced. A must visit when you are in Ojai.

I wanted to try this place so bad on recommendations from friends. I made a reservation for the two of us for 7:30. They close at 8. This whole town shuts down early for some reason. The restaurant was not busy and we were seated in the front. Our server was an older nice gentleman. I ordered the grilled veggie salad which was so Damn good and clever. I never see this anywhere on menus. For dinner I got chicken piccatta. The taste was too familiar and not unique hence the 4 star. I should have ordered something different, but I craved a cluck. I need parmesan cheese to make it different. The service could have been better, but oh well. I'll return to try other things.

My girlfriend and I came here to celebrate her birthday. We were taken to a table closest to their beautiful outdoor garden (a must see!). Major birthday points scored on my behalf. The food came exactly when we wanted and was absolutely delicious. Goat cheese zucchini blossoms, seared ahi, and some great scallops. Definitely somewhere to check out when you visit Ojai! Extra props to our server Gennifer (sp?) who never made us feel rushed even as we shut the place down.

We visited Ojai for our anniversary and found Suzanne's through Yelper recommendations. We arrived early (a tad before 6) and was seated immediately without reservations (a plus for this). The ambiance was great. Request the patio if available. We started with the Fromage. The cheese was very light, yet creamy smoothe. For the main course, we ordered the Pork Medallions and the Pan Seared Branzino. Both dishes were above average. The pan seared Branizo was probably a little more delicious because I wasn't a fan of the blue cheese sauce for the medallions. The pork was however very tender. But, if I were a fan of blue cheese, I'm sure I would have enjoyed it just as much. For dessert, we had the sour cherry Fruit Crisp with vanilla ice cream. This was a great dessert to cap off a great dinner. Overall, Suzanne's is a must have experience in Ojai.

My boyfriend took me here yesterday for my birthday dinner. It was one of the worst restaurants we've been to, and here's why: My boyfriend and I look very young. We look like kids, although he's 25 and I'm (now) 24. I've also waitressed in the past so I'm a very good tipper. But, because we look so young, usually whenever we wind up at half-decent places we're treated poorly because of the obvious assumption made by the server that we're not worth their time. That being said; Our server seriously could care less about us, and it showed. She gave much, much better service to the wine drinker, older crowed tables than to us. She disappeared halfway through the meal and passed us on to another server without saying anything. We seriously had no one come up to us after we were done eating for about 40 minutes. 40 minutes. Then suddenly another lady comes by, clears the plates and asks us about dessert and drops the check while our previous server is tending to her other tables around us. When previous server was serving us, she'd leave mid-sentence while we responded to what she asked us and when I asked her to recommend something, she wasn't even looking at us and told me in a very rude tone, "I don't know, I guess it depends. Are you ready yet?" She asked if we wanted wine and we politely declined, and she sighed and rolled her eyes when walking away from the table.. The food was also.. Terrible. Took an extremely long time to come out, too. Everything was awful tasting except for the shrimp dumplings. I ended up getting the miso fish, which tasted like spoiled tilapia at Denny's. My boyfriend got the filet and it was disgusting, he couldn't even eat it. Apparently he had told the people up front, and our waitress it was my birthday but they completely forgot about it and didn't do anything (although the table next to us, they did a birthday thing for) - I could care less either way but my boyfriend was pretty pissed about it because he had mentioned it to them while making the reservation and after. So yeah, it seriously was a terrible experience.

Great ambiance - especially during the holidays it was nice and cozy. Had the brussel sprouts, beets with goat cheese, and eggplant tart as appetizers, and the miso butterfish and chimichurri prime rib-eye for entrees - all were very tasty especially the prime rib-eye which was a great combo of flavor, juiciness and fattiness! I definitely would recommend this restaurant over the on-site dining options at Ojai Valley Inn (if that is where you are staying). For about the same or less price, you definitely get better quality here.

All around great surprise finding this place. Had rack of lamb, almost 2 inches thick and perfectly cooked! Crab cakes, nicely filled with crab. Really good size entrées. Shrimp pot stickers were very good. Mussels....well nothing to rave about there. But overall, great place. Service and bread was also great :)

REALLY PEOPLE?! Is this place really deserving of such high ratings? Me thinks not. I dined here with my hubby on Sunday, 4/17/11 after spending a fabulous weekend at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. We decided to eat here because of all the "rave" reviews. What a disappointment, especially being that we had such a great time in Ojai and we ended our weekend on a bad note by dining at Suzanne's. Where shall I start? We were seated immediately in the back patio facing the lovely rose garden for our 5:30 PM reservation. Host was pretty friendly. My disappointment started with the drinks. I ordered their mango martini. Looked nice and promising, but then I had one sip of it and it was way too tart. They added too much fresh lime juice which overpowered the taste of the mango. There was no mango flavor, all I could taste was lime! :( STRIKE ONE! So I sent back my drink and ordered a chocolate martini instead. It was not the best chocolate martini I have had, but it was decent. My husband ordered for an appetizer their shrimp wontons. For $10 bucks, we were served 3, YES THREE, tiny wontons filled with one piece of shrimp each and was served with two different sauces and a side of edamame. What a RIP off!!!! STRIKE TWO!! Good thing, I ordered a bowl of their pureed mushroom soup. It was decent and my hubby and I were able to share it. Then when we ordered our meal, I ordered their rib eye steak, MEDIUM RARE. My hubby ordered the NY steak medium. To my disappointment, when the steaks arrived, there was nothing medium rare about my steak. It was charred on one side!!!!! STRIKE THREE!!! I told the waiter about it, and he asked if I wanted to have another steak made. I said, no because we had a long drive ahead of us and could not wait. The steak came with garlic mashed potatoes. Quite honestly, there was nothing garlic tasting about it. It lacked flavor and was overly whipped. I have had better instant mashed potatoes than what they served us. Overall, I have had much better food dining somewhere else and for a lot less money. The only reason I gave them 1 star was because they comped me for my chocolate martini. We still paid over $100 bucks for a less than mediocre meal. Totally disappointing! WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE!

Great lunch at Suzanne's in Ojai today: I had an excellent grilled chicken salad while my sister had a delicious caesar with shrimp. I also ordered a "cup" of the vegetable lentil soup...not sure if they misheard me because it ended up being a LOT of soup, but who can complain about too much food? Staff was friendly, helpful and competent.

I sat on the Patio and that was great. The food is good and well made, but does not raise to the top really. We liked each of our dishes, but something was missing. We did love the garden and the seating was fast and easy. The food arrived quickly and was correct. Sit on the Patio near the garden and eat and relax. The restaurant was good with great scenery.

This place is a great little gem in Ojai! My husband and I came here for dinner on our mini honeymoon last week and it was amaze balls. We both shared the brussel sprouts for an app and he got the calf liver and I got the butterfish. Both were SO good. Everything there is fresh and from farm to table, which, IMHO, is the best way to go. I was in love with the lavendar honey spritzer (must have!) that i ordered with my dinner. This place will definitely be a place we will come back to visit when we visit Ojai again!

As if the Ojai adventure couldn't be more of a misfire, my birthday dinner here was a disaster. My scallops were awful - not seared, rubbery, and the sauce had a thick skin on it, which meant it had been sitting around for a while. After asking for them to take it back, they half heartily asked if I wanted something else. Didn't see our server after that until we got our check. We complained to the manager - some young kid who couldn't have cared less. Unless you were one of his friends who he bent over backward for. Avoid this place, much better attention to detail and decent food elsewhere. Don't waste your time at a place that just Plain. Doesn't. Care.

This is a very romantic place. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the lamb chops. The service was excellent and for my friend's birthday, I ordered a dessert which came on a plate with Happy Birthday written in fudge around the edge of the plate. We sat in the back patio with a beautiful view of the garden which has a lovely water fountain. A fireplace warms up the room decorated for the holidays.

Good meal, good service, pleasant atmosphere. I had a tasty pasta shrimp dish. My husband had lamb chops, that he would order again. Wine selection was great. A good solid meal and we would definitely go back.

Update 6/9/12: The owner of Suzanne's read my review and send a very nice note through Yelp, and offered a refund for our meal. While I do not write reviews for this purpose, I think it is a welcome reassurance when a proprietor cares so much about the dining experience of their patrons. -- Thoroughly disappointing. This was the one restaurant that I had looked forward to trying prior to our trip to Ojai based on word-of-mouth, and very favorable reviews on other sites, and I took the time to make a reservation a week out just to be safe. We started off with cocktails, and that was the high point of the meal. I had never ordered a gimlet before, and the vodka-based version I was served was fantastic. Unfortunately, I came to Suzanne's for the food and not the alcohol, and the rest of the meal was fair to middling. The beet starter was bland and mushy. The stuffed Cornish game hen was much the same, so much so that I left most of it untouched. By the end of the meal, we decided to cut our losses and visit our new-found love, Bliss Frozen Yogurt, rather than risk an unsatisfying dessert. Service was friendly and attentive. The ambiance is country charming, as long as you find flies landing on your food charming (and this is the indoor seating). Get me back to the city, stat!

I had been to Suzanne's several years ago and thought it was wonderful. This time, the food was just okay and the premises looked a little tired and old. The bathroom needing cleaning, too. The service was slow, and we had to flag someone down for water and to refill my tea. Although everyone who worked there was very friendly when they did come by. The omelet I ordered was a bit runny and salty. I was disappointed they didn't have any alternative milks (almond or soy) for their coffee and lattes. Their mousse dessert was the highlight and very good, however. The really need to update the premises and their menu!

Excellent service from everyone we came into contact with, and an exceptionally seasoned waiter. I had the stuffed squash blossoms to start and the bouillabaisse as a main; both were very good, would order again. As my reservation was made midday on Saturday for dinner the same evening, seating outdoor was not possible. With that experience next time, would consider bumping up to 5 stars.

We came for dinner after Zagat's gave this place a 27. I started off with the butter lettuce and blue cheese salad. Nothing amazing about it. The carmelized pecans seemed store bought and I had to chop my own lettuce. My two girlfriends didn't find their mushroom soup that fantastic. We then moved on to our main dishes. I ordered the salmon with the mango sauce and was quite disappointed. The fish was overly cooked and it tasted like the mangoes were simply diced with no seasoning. My rice was crunchy and the vegetables were bland. Looking around my girlfriend's plates, nobody finished their entrees. That being said, the service and cocktails were awesome and we ended up eating all of the fresh bread with butter. I would have been really disappointed if I had come here with my husband.

Let me start off by saying that after the last two times I came here, once for lunch & once for dinner over the last 3 months I too had mixed feelings about this place for several reasons until what happened 5 minutes ago. Firstly let me just say that the food is just okay. NOT 5 stars as they claim or even close to some of the restaurants I have eaten in in the past. And for the price should be better. Had a salad: Spinach salad w/ blue, "French" Feta cheeses, walnuts, tomatoes in a Walnut Vinaigrette. Not a whole lot of cheese or walnuts but like I said it was okay. For $12.75 it could of been better. Wine list is okay and what you'd expect for a restaurant with these prices. It isn't extraordinary but ok. Dinner for my husband's birthday in November. Called on Tues 11/12 for a reservation for 11/16. Got a rez & arrived at the restaurant. Put us on the front patio by the front door and there was a screaming kid on the patio. We asked to be moved so they moved us to the back room. It was pretty obvious the kid was put on the front porch so that the screaming would not disturb the main part of the restaurant. Shared an appetizer of stuffed figs on a bed of arugula that was ok. Not wow, but ok. They were out of the fish I wanted so I ordered Angel Hair With Red Chile Olive Oil, Garlic, Anchovies, tomatoes, olives, $18.00 for a bowl of mediocre pasta. Hubby had Fusilli, w/ chunks of mozzarella, tomato etc. $18.00..except it was "rotini" when it came to the table. Not traditional fusilli! I am Italian, and I not only make homemade pasta all the time with my grandfather's pasta machine from Italy, but I prepare pasta dishes every week. These were mediocre at best & for $18.00 a dish should of been stellar. Warm Chocolate tart just ok. Our server however gave us excellent service and he was gracious and nice. In fact the best part of the meal. So you ask why then would I eat here again? Well, we don't have too many nice restaurants in Ojai so compared to what is in town it has an ok atmosphere (decor is a bit KITSCH) & the food is okay. Plus we can walk here. If this restaurant was in Los Angeles or even Santa Barbara it would not measure up but for Ojai it is one of the better restaurants. NOW for the kicker and the rudest treatment I have ever had with a restaurant establishment. If this is what they call 5 star then they need some serious therapy!! Called to make a reservation for Xmas Eve & the person who answered the phone was clueless. It is so ridiculous that it is hard to explain. It gets worse...WAY WORSE. She said they were closed on Xmas Eve so I asked for a reservation on the Saturday after that. I asked to sit on the patio in the front, as you walk in just to the right before the main restaurant. I asked if we could have the back table. She said I don't know we only have one table left. Then said oh you mean the porch? I explained again where this was so she then said then you mean the garden? I said I just told you where we wanted to sit I don't know what you all call it there but let me explain again!! Okay now someone else picks up the phone & says hello? LOL...nice huh! I said who is this? She didn't tell me she was getting someone else to help me!! Here we go again. I asked this person Carrie-Ann what is up! She says oh she isn't the person that does the reservations, I do! Ok so I asked again if we could have a table on the front patio as you walk in. She says oh you mean the porch! I said well the other girl called it the garden! LOL, which is it? Told her what a fiasco it had been and why as a customer do I have to go through this just to make a reservation! I don't know what the employees and staff call the areas! I spell it out again asking if we could have that table. Yes but we had to come @ 6:30 not 7PM. Ok, it was done. Following day, I get a call form Suzanne's Cuisine on my caller ID so I answer. Enter Persnickety Patrick (manager) on the other end asking if I made a reservation. I said yes. This self-righteous rude individual proceeds to tell me that I offended his staff and accuses me of saying things I never said! Says I said they had the worst customer service of any restaurant in Ojai..LOL...yata yata...THEN proceeds to tell me that the last time we came in I accused them of putting the screaming kid out on the patio on purpose!! LOL...uh yeah ok Patrick. What I said was that the kid was out there so he wouldn't disturb the rest of the restaurant and that we wanted to eat where it was quiet! But lo and behold Mr. Persnickety kept ranting so I hung up. HERE'S the unbelievable part and WHY this is NOT a 5 STAR restaurant. He had the nerve to CALL BACK & said that he decided we wouldn't be happy & the "OWNERS" have decided we can't eat there! LOL...Unreal!! WHO does that!! CLASSY HUH!! THIS says it all and why I say SKIP this place. Better places in Ojai that treat you better, Where the manager doesn't have his panties twisted! AND, FYI Patrick...You are NOT #1 on Tripadvisor

Great service and decent food for a pretty penny. Romantic atmosphere, has some nice outdoor seating as well. Fresh fruit creme bruele is very good. Chocolate cake is good. Filet minon was okay, I've definitely had better . Olive bread and oil is good. On the more expensive side, dresser, and most concerned about wine selection.

Delicious! Patio was beautiful, nice fountain, rose garden with herbs was a great view. I had the tuna bruschetta, and the meatball sandwich. Both served with a large fresh salad. Very healthy, tasty and a nice calming friendly setting. Will definitely come again!

If you are a foodie of any type, like great, attentive service and locally sourced food, this is the place for your! Normally, when I get a protein, the veggies on it are basically just for show. Nice knife work but not all that tasty. The veggies on my butter fish dish were off the hook! whole Peas, carrots and I can't remember what else but all were exceptionally sweet, fresh, vibrant and JUST as good if not better than the headliner of the plate. The front desk staff were not exceptionally friendly, but they were professional and that's good enough for me. This is a MUST eat if you can afford it. It's not cheap.

This last Saturday night some very good friends of ours took my wife & I to dinner at Suzanne's and what a wonderful experience! Great visit with friends and alot of laugther and no pressure of a time constriant. First, the atmosphere is awesone, very inviting and comfortable. We sat out on the patio with a beautiful garden setting as a back drop. Piped in music soft listening jazz & easy listening contemporary perfect for the evening spent. Secondly, service was very friendly from the waitress who served us and all the assisting service folks. Knowledgable of the menu and the presented specials. A very welcoming group of folks from the owner walking through the restaurant greeting all patrons to the bartender welcoming as you walk thru the front door. The food was some of the bested ever tasted as well as the presentation, from my salad to dessert. I had the pork medalions cooked to perfection with light sauce and fresh vegetables accompanied on the plate and, my wife had the stuffed goat cheese shells with jumbo shrimp, also very good. When reviewing the menu to order my selection was very difficult because everything was tempting. I do look forward to my future visits to try more dishes offered. We brought our own wine so I really can't offer any comments there. Finnally, this is an establishment I highly recommend to anybody no matter what the occaission. I know we will be visiting more often and hopefully with friends who will appreciate it as much as we did. Thank you Pam & Joyce, you are great friends for sharing this place with us!!!!!

I went to Suzanne's for lunch with my mom for the first time this past month. The service is very friendly and welcoming. The patio was very lovely and reminded me of Tuscany. I got the Maytag Blue Cheese Caesar Salad and it was absolutely delicious. It paired well with the Riesling. I definitely recommend this place! While most menu items are expensive, you definitely can find something to eat even if you're on a budget.

Excellent service. Patio is very pretty. Had dinner on a Saturday night. Was very busy and lively. I had the sand dabs. Very good. Shrimp appetizer was great. Mushroom soup was amazing. The rib eye was fantastic. They charged us for our birthday dessert which I picked from the menu. We could have just had the complementary one. Very nice special occasion restaurant.

This is probably one of the best places to eat in Ojai---not that there's tremendous competition. But pricey! Lovely setting, attentive staff, yummy food. We had the special lamb and the beef filet; both entrees (very good) were served with seasonal veggies (perfectly cooked) and mashed potatoes (totally not special in any way). We were on the back patio which overlooks a small flower garden; there are heaters (which we used) as the night grew chilly. Why the 4 star and not 5? Well, I find it annoying for a place to charge a $20 corkage fee (we had a special bottle of wine for a special occasion). And while our dessert came with "happy anniversary" written in chocolate, it was not comped, and I think that's just plain cheap. Anyway, I'm glad we tried the place and if you want an upscale meal at a nice place, this would be the place to go.

As good as it gets... in Ojai for shiz. We came here on a Saturday night for dinner at 7pm. I checked out Yelp before and it says they accept reservations--no one on Yelp said that you *should* have reservations. Alas, we showed up and they did not have a table open until 9pm. Great. We left then later decided to go somewhere else for drinks and apps then indeed go back to Suzanne's for a late dinner. Lesson: if it's a Saturday night--get a reservation! I'm super glad we did, people! I ordered the pork medallions!! WOW! Fantastic! Not over done, and the sauce it was in was fantastic! Greatest meal I've had in a while! They have a great wine selection as well. I had a tasty Malbec. The only other place that I saw that had a comparable wine list was AZU. You can check out my review on that place too. My husband ordered the fettucine (which is his one of his favorite dishes) he absolutely loved it. For dessert we had the pineapple with mascarpone sauce and coconut icecream. Wow it was amazing! We were licking the plate! The service was awesome. We had this older gentleman who was the best waiter I've had in a while--I am from LA, so you Angelenos can feel me on that one. Super romantic atmosphere. Private parking lot. I am having a hard time finding a complaint here, people. Just go! Definitely best dinner, food, service and experience you will have in Ojai!

Bottom line: Had better service at Denny's (the manager is a kid who knows nothing about customer service). Also, the food was very inconsistent and absolutely not worth the price. I'm a foodie, and this is definitely not a place for foodies. The Service: First off the service was slow and as other people have said they try to rush you out the door as soon as you get your food. The manager is a kid who doesn't know the first thing about customer service. The food came out improperly cooked, some entrees overdone, others way underdone, but worst of all everything was under-seasoned. One dish was so bad we had to send it back with no apology given. Again, as other reviews have said they try to pass off their bad food by saying the customer is always wrong. Note to Suzanne's Cuisine - Learn to cook a scallop properly! The Food: I've spent weeks traveling around Italy and must say this is sub-par italian food. The prices of the dishes were high, each dish is in $30 range. I was just very disappointed in the execution of the entrees (seasoning and cooking). I go out to a restaurant to enjoy food that I can't make at home. This food, sadly enough I could do much better. If you're going to drop $200 on a family meal, make sure you look elsewhere. The only reason they get 2 stars is because no one got sick. AVOID THIS PLACE!!

I'm going 4.5 stars as well so my 5 will avg out the other 4s but service was great, beautiful setting on the outside patio area, great menu and a very reasonable wine list which I appreciate but $260 all in for 2 of us, included drinks and a bottle of wine, pretty pricey. That being said, it's less expensive and better then the Ojai Valley Inn restaurant so there's that.

Beautiful restaurant....felt like you were eating in a garden. Loved eating to the sounds of the water fountain and smells of the fresh flowers. Food was ok...but not great. We had the Reuban and steak sandwhich. We asked for the steak to be medium rare...it was well done and dried out. Disappointed for the cost. Wait staff was very attentive and friendly!

Beautiful location, attentive staff, robust menu. While we loved everything we had at dinner, the food from the seasonal menu was much fresher and tastier than the dishes we ordered from the standard menu. When in doubt, go seasonal. That said, I had no complaints about my miso butterfish (which was black cod, and from the standard menu) once I mixed in a little extra wasabi with the ponzu sauce. The fresh shrimp dumplings from the seasonal menu were absolutely delicious - well seasoned and mouthful. We ordered a haricot verts salad from the seasonal menu that we loved - crunchy, fresh and savory. Mushroom soup was scrumptious (maybe a little heavy on the salt, but I like salt). Crab cakes with corn were good, but not as top-notch as the seasonal fare. Dinner is served with olive rolls, sliced baguette, and perfect, creamy butter. The wine and cocktails list has something for everyone - I loved the gin with lavender honey syrup cocktail, and their rose by the glass. Desserts are plentiful and shouldn't be missed: fresh ice creams and sorbets, their crazy-delicious coffee ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce and Kahlua and the famous peanut butter chocolate torte were our happy choices. We will definitely go back when we are back in Ojai.

The food was great, except for the escargot dish which I found a bit chewy. Dessert made from seasonal fruits was excellent. The only thing was the price... Everything in Ojai is expensive!

Really nothing that's worth noting. Came here awhile back while visiting Ojai and was pretty disappointed by the quality of the food. Every single dish was boring, lacked presentation, flavor, and was... boring. Not sure if it was just that night, but a rather large group of loud old-er women were busy practically screaming their heads off laughing while the staff just watches. Seemed more upscale family restaurant than a place to enjoy food. As nice as Ojai is, I'm beginning to think it's not the best town for foodies.

We recently came to Ojai and chose this restaurant for a friend's 30th birthday. The reviews looked great and our concierge at the Ojai Valley Inn & Spa also recommended the restaurant. We had reservations at 7:45pm for a party of 6 and they were kind enough to accommodate us at 6:00pm. The restaurant is cozy and nice ambiance. In theory, this could have been a great place to dine. We started off ordering about 5-6 appetizers. We weren't ready to order our main course yet, however our server immediately told us we had to order within 5 minutes because they needed the table by 8pm. Just a little pushy? The food overall was average at best. The oysters were fishy and sandy. We were only able to eat 3 out of the 6 oysters. The rest of the appetizers were decent but nothing special. My recommendation would be the arugula salad and mussels because it had a good sauce. We also had the eggplant tart, shrimp dumplings, mushroom soup, all were average. For entrees, we ordered the rack of lamb, seabass and vegetable salad. The rack of lamb was a bit chewy needed more sauce and the steamed vegetables were bland. I did not try the seabass, but was told it was fishy. Overall, sauce for the mussels was the best, but the rest of the dishes had no flavor. When we left, the manager rudely mentioned they had to give free desserts to another table because the guests were waiting to be seated at our table. Appalling to say the least. 10-15 min after we left restaurant I realized I left my cell phone at the restaurant. I also used the Find iPhone app on someone else's phone to locate it and confirm that it was still there. I immediately went back to the restaurant and was told that the staff didn't find it although my GPS confirmed it was still there. A few minutes after I arrived, my phone was turned off. Coincidence? To top it off, our previous server came up to me and rudely asked if i wanted to check his pockets. I obviously did not do that. All in all, the ambiance was the best part about the restaurant and if you're a bourbon drinker, they make a great Old Fashion. Food was mediocre and although other Yelpers had a good experience with the service, we unfortunately did not.

Wonder food, serene setting on the outside patio. Enjoying one of their lunch specials on a sunny, warm Saturday afternoon. The house made limeade is killer.

Met Suzanne who was really lovely. The food, however, was ok, sort of forgettable. Everything was pretty straight forward and flavor-wise was nothing special. Definitely expensive but I think you're paying for the atmosphere more than the ingredients. We tried the crab cake, brussel sprouts, shrimp dumpling (best item, surprisingly), fusilli pasta, and the rigatoni with sausage. Also, all four of us dining there were way over 21, yet they took the wine list away from us as we were being seated. I mean, maybe we look young but it would have been nice to be asked if we needed to see a wine menu. BUT our server was very very sweet so ignore me.

Our family of four had a wonderful dinner. The desserts were delicious too. Very worth the price. A great stop while you are in Ojai.

This restaurant's food is okay...don't think we would return to eat here. We were expecting it to be an internationally acclaimed restaurant, but honestly, it's nothing fancy or special. Maybe Ojai special? The shrimp dumplings were delicious... the margarita was eh (had a better margarita at Barrel 33)... My filet mignon with grilled onions, bleu cheese and grilled mushrooms was a 8/10... My friend had to send her ribeye back b/c she ordered it medium-rare, but it came out well done. The pineapple dessert was lame (don't order it)--just grilled pineapples with ice cream on top, and the Cafe dessert (coffee ice cream special) was pretty good--mainly coffee ice cream. I will say the staff here is very friendly and accomodating though.

Stopped for lunch while up here working. Good quality food ( I had smoked chicken salad, husband had salmon sandwich). quality of chicken, salmon, greens and bread was superb. Service was friendly and attentive. Place was beautiful if not a bit too flowery for my taste. Prices are not low, but with the quality being so good, I'm not complaining.

Thanks to Suzanne's for making my birthday dinner so special! It was a superb meal from start to finish - the quality and flavors of each dish really made it evident that there was a lot of thought and care put into it before it hit our table. Our server was particularly gracious, attentive, very nice, and informative with the wine list. We were even able to get seated 1 hour in advance of our reservation (since we came early) and were thrilled they could accommodate. I was blown away by the bouillabaisse, which I found out later is one of their signature dishes. The seafood was amazing! My only critique is that it was over salted and the further I got down in the bowl, the more salty it was - alas, I couldn't really finish it. One of the other dishes on our table was over salted as well; but still very good! I have recommended all my friends to come here already.

Cute place with great ambiance. We walked in at 6 pm on a Saturday night and the place was already completely booked for the night. They were able to seat is at the bar, so an extra point for the accomodation. Had a good wine selection. The food was decent, not amazing but not bad. I got the seafood sampler which had cod, salmon and scallop. My husband ordered the filet mignon, which was just okay. Overall the food was average but the service and place was excellent!

My husband and I had lunch here before leaving Ojai. I was really excited to try it because I'd read all the rave reviews. I tried not to hype it up too much in my head because I didn't want to be disappointed. To my surprise it was as good as people say it is! We both really enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere was really comfortable, i.e. zero attitude. The setting is beautiful and tranquil. It was hot outside, but we were totally cool on the covered patio. I had the tuna salad on bruschetta. I think it's the best tuna salad I've ever eaten! Simple, yes, but perfect! My husband had a roast beef sandwich with wasabi and he was very happy with it. I also like how a man goes around refilling iced teas as if they are water. Will definitely try them for dinner next time we're in Ojai!

This place has a great ambiance, and although it was a little tough to get reservations, the food and cocktails were both phenomenal. We arrived, and skipped the first course of appetizers, opting for a Harrington Martini and a St. Germain Gimlet instead. These were great. Service was good, atmosphere was great, the main courses were phenomenal (I had the seared ahi special and she had the scallops -- I tasted both, and both were out of this world). The music and paintings were a nice touch. The highway coming into Ojai was a little scary for a newcomer, so if you're taking the 150 (coming from the West), be prepared. Other than that, this place is definitely making it on my standard nicer-restaurant circuit! PS: Desserts were to die for.

We drove up to Ojai from Santa Clarita for a Friday night dinner at Suzanne's Cuisine. Winding up to Ojai from Santa Paula takes you up Highway 150 and leaves you feeling that you are far away from the real world--much like Shangri-La as it was used as the backdrop for the 1938 film, Lost Horizon. But to the food--I had the crab cake appetizer and my bride had the warm beet salad--both were actually quite generous in size, and we went on to entrees of sand dabs in a lemon beurre blanc sauce (me) and jumbo shrimp and pasta stuffed with goat cheese (wife)--both were good but not as good as the appetizers, The menu offers many choices and a lot of specials--which was impressive given that the restaurant is moderate in size. Most appetizers were under $10 and most entrees under $30, with the exception of the steaks. These prices, for what is very likely the top restaurant in Ojai, were more than fair. Another plus is a varied and fairly priced wine list, with many bottles from nearby Santa Barbara County and Paso Robles. We were quite stuffed after our meal, but managed to share a desert of flourless chocolate cake with vanilla bean ice cream and brandied cherries--it was probably the best thing we had all night. Despite the longish drive, we will be sure to come back more often as the quality and setting are hard to beat. Also note the restaurant has a large patio area (covered) in the back that is delightful, particularly in the warmer months. Welcome to Shangr-La, indeed!

Everything was great. The only complaint we had was the time waiting for dessert. The waitress did not tell us when ordering that we needed to waiting 30 minutes to prepare. By the time the dessert came we just wanted to leave. I think she forgot to put the order in timely,

Always perfect. Simply the best restaurant in W. Ventura County. They always remember us and go out of their way to make each meal a memorable experience. There is a reason why they normally have a full house.

I pretty much loved my birthday meal here. Such a huge selection of seafood made it hard to decide on. I got the seared to perfection Ahi with farm vegetables & jasmine rice. The vegetables seemed to be cooked individually as to not overcook different types by cooking them together. The heirloom tomato salad with french feta was also delicious starter. Not to mention the flourless chocolate cake for dessert. YUM. Would love to go back when I'm in Ojai again.

The "fancy" restaurant in Ojai. When we were in high school and parents came to town it was a real big treat to get invited for a meal at this darling little spot off the main road. It's got the small town charm mixed with draping flowers, white table clothes, several outdoor seating opportunities and a menu that offers something for everyone. The salads are particularly memorable and the portions will more than satisfy. In retrospect, with more excellent meal experiences under my belt I'd say that there's nothing really that remarkable about Suzanne's food. It's the atmosphere and gorgeous twinkling lit patio results in a romantic marriage of Midsummer Night's Dream and Love Potion No. 9. Definitely the perfect place to crown a day in the beautiful Ojai Valley.

Suzanne's has a very lovely enclosed outdoor patio; a nice respite from your Ojai touring. I tried one of the daily specials, which was the trout and side salad. The trout was perfectly cooked with a delicate, light lemon sauce that didn't disguise the fresh taste of the fish.

We had stuffed zucchini blossoms for an appetizer. It was good but not great. If a plate has that little amount of food I expect it to be fantastic. The goat cheese stuffed pasta shells and jumbo shrimp was fantastic though. This was the best dish of the Ojai trip. Cocktails are great here! The bread they server with their olive oil is delicious.

My Boyfriend brought me here Friday night for my birthday dinner. From the start it was a wonderful experience. We were shown to a very nice table with good views of both the large fireplace and the gorgeous gardens. The flowers were magnificent, even in the bathroom! The service was very friendly, helpful and efficient; we never had to ask for anything. The bread was hot and delicious, and came right away. I had the most fabulous "French Brit" martini with elderflower (no, I dont know whre that came from but who cares), which was out of this world! I wanted two or three, but exercized caution and stuck with only one, although I dont know whay since it WAS my birthday! We shared the whitebean arugula salad with caviar and anchovies, the homemade shrimp dumplings, the softshell crab and tripple mouse desert with vanilla ice cream on the side. Every dish was very good and the presentation was beautiful. I didn't want to leave. I think Suzanne's is excellent, whether one is dressed up for a special occasion or in jeans for a casual dinner. And BTW, the birthday dessert presentaion was glorius! We took a photo it was so great, but haven't uploaded it yet for inclusion here (unfortunately).

Suzanne's in a word? Pick one: Fresh. Creative. Delightful. Delicious. Charming. Inviting. Unique. Healthful. Three of us split two salads and a sandwich. The portions are generous and the prices are fair. The ambiance is adorable. The southwest salad (I think that was the name) was one of the best salads I've ever had. It had chicken, rice, and veggies. No dressing needed! I wish we ordered one less item so we could have left room for dessert. Service was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere is utterly charming. You feel like you're at a friend's quaint house. Eat in the garden and enjoy the meticulously kept foliage or stay cool inside. There are two patios and an indoor area. All are perfect for small to medium sized group gatherings.

Charming restaurant with a lovely garden in the back. The wall opens to the garden, allowing you to enjoy it from your table. Their cocktails are creative and perfectly prepared, and their wine list has a great section for "interesting" lesser known wines that are amazingly good. The food is well prepared and beautifully presented. All of the staff were friendly and professional. I would definitely return.

What a delightful little place; We loved it from the Duck Liver Pate that we started with which was superb to the Croque Monsieur sandwich that we finished with and sitting on the edge of their outdoor patio, life could not much more beautiful. This is such a sweet find in Ojai.

This was my first trip to this small town and sure wont be the last, especially when I know I'll be going back to Sazeanne's every time. It was late Saturday night when my wife and I got out for a bite to eat when we stumbled on Suzeanne's and we discovered a wonderful and peaceful place to dine in. It was obviously a bit late because the kitchen had closed by the time we got there, but the chef allowed it and we sat down and that became the beginning of the best food tasting experience. They sat us right at the end by the garden, it was such a wonderful spot; definitely a great place to go on a date. Food was amazing and the desert was even better. I will be back.

I've had food in many cities...from road side diners to 5 star restaurants. I read reviews about Suzanne's written by people assuming they were dining in an NYC celeb hangout. Ummm...you are in Ojai, and even if you were in Orange County, this is pretty frikkin' solid. Service was great! Maybe even a little too great for a seemingly casual setting. As we ordered an app, salad, and 2 entrees our server actually suggested we space it out into 3 courses rather than hurrying us along. Food was better than fine, though not exceptional. Wine list was pretty impressive too. I had a bottle of Gruner Veltliner with dinner. How often do you see that on a menu? Pleasant surprise.

We visited for lunch on a Monday. We had quick, efficient, and friendly service. Mr R ordered a Reuben sandwich and enjoyed it. I wasn't sure what to order and eventually decided on the Southwest Salad of Three Rices. Not sure what I was expecting, but it looked like a very grown-up meal. Lots of vegetables, brown rice, vegetables, turkey, and some more vegetables with feta. Its something I would have enjoyed in a small bowl as a side. I had such a huge plate of the stuff that I got bored pretty quickly with it. The desserts looked good and were very nicely priced (under $5 if I recall) but we skipped it. We're happy we tried Suzanne's as its supposed to be a highlight in Ojai.

When we told people we were going to Ojai, Suzanne's was the recommendation from everyone. We consider ourselves foodies and work hard when traveling to find the best places to eat. We did our research on all sites and Suzanne's popped up favorably. After dining at Suzanne's what impresses me most is how much the owner Sandra cares that her customers have a wonderful dining experience and that they feel like the restaurant provided them with high quality and value. I had some questions following our meal, called the restaurant and left a message for Sandra. She was relentless in her efforts to reach me to ask for my feedback. She asked me a great many questions about our meal and was thoroughly interested and open. I am from NYC, I dine out all the time and this was a "first ever" experience with an owner who cared so thoroughly about her customers. I am indeed a fan and recommend people dine at Suzanne's when in beautiful Ojai.

This is what a restaurant should be. My husband and I had read about Suzanne's and her high ratings with the food critics. I was apprehensive about going. All to often you have to dress up and are greeted by snobby servers. Suzanne's is just the opposite, the staff is young and friendly. The attire for customers is casual. The ambiance homey and comfortable. And the food is delicious. We have only been there for lunch and I would recommend trying the days specials. We last had the chicken/chili soup, along with a vinaigrette salad and bread.. It was so favorable.

This was a pleasant surpirise in Ojai. We love the simple but well prpared and plated dishes so much we ate twice here over the course of a week. Had the Lamb twice which was awesome and the seasonal starters where delicisous, even the kids mels where truly tasty, my daughter demolished the meatball and pasta... Can't recommend highly enough.

We were in town for a conference, and our friend who was also attending, recommended Suzanne's as a must visit. We made our reservation through Open Table, but kudos to Suzanne's when they called us back and changed the table because Open Table put us in a bad location for a party of four. Suzanne's is a quaint restaurant, and while a bit tight, you did not feel crammed into the restaurant. The service was excellent, informative and attentive. The menu selection was diverse, with a nice set of daily specials. Our group had: Chimichurri marinated rib - cooked to perfection, very flavorful, and tender Seasonal Seafood On A Bed Of Homemade Sauerkraut With A Dill Beurre Blanc Sauce - Salmon/Mahi/Scallop, cooked to perfection, and a sauce to die for Grilled Mahi Mahi With Chipotle Beurre Blanc - yes you guessed it, cooked to perfection, and a sauce to die for Yes we were stuffed, but we had to share some desserts: Café Liegeois De La Maison Lemon Berry Tart In An Almond Pastry Crust Both full of flavor, not too sweet, and very refreshing

Great food as well as service at this place. Very nice people, gorgeous garden and patio dining. They really know how to do luxury. My first course was gazpacho which I have to say was just mediocre, standard gazpacho blended with a strong red bell pepper taste. It would have been better with tiny chunks of watermelon. But my main course was the Branzino which was very lightly coated and pan roasted, topped with roasted tomatoes and artichokes. DEElicious! Accompanied with perfectly steamed vegetables and a little white rice. The waiter was kind, courteous and attentive. Best restaurant in Ojai. Highly recommend.

My fiancée and I came here for dinner while staying in Ojai. He had Scottish salmon with mango salsa I had fillet. We got the roasted brussel sprouts as an appetizer and those were the best part of the meal. The salmon was juicy, veggies fresh and crisp and my fillet was perfectly medium rare except the very center was rare which is why the 4 stars. Make reservations early we got lucky to get a 9 sitting and that's only because someone canceled.

Yummm! Just went in for desserts. Had the warm chocolate cake with white coffee sauce, the traditional creme brûlée and flourless chocolate tart with sour cherries. So good! Both came with homemade ice cream, the chocolate ice cream was amazing! Loved it!

Although if you ask enough people who work in and around the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa, multiple people are going tell you about Suzannes; in my experience, that doesn't necessarily mean its going to blow your socks off; but our experience at Suzannes did. We had the Justin Vineyards Cab by the glass (amazing) had the Arugula salad (not amazing but good) and the Rib Eye with chimi churi herb rub marinade. Wow, that steak was amazing. Lovely patio with a view to a back yard garden that someone has invested alot of time to maintain beautifully. Can't wait to come back.

A feast for all of the senses. The restaurant is simply lovely. It looks like an old Craftsman style home owned by a prolific gardener. Just walking in has me relaxed. If you can, sit on the patio. The patio, with a soothing water fountain and a fireplace for cool evenings, overlooks a lovely garden full of flowers and butterflies. While I have only stopped by for lunch, evening dining would be very romantic here. The food is consistently top notch. Suzanne's is a special place for Mom and me and we have been coming here for four years. In all that time, we have never been disappointed. It's obvious that fresh and quality are words that Suzanne's kitchen understands. You can't fake fresh. Fresh makes all the difference. How to describe the food? French-Italian with a bit of Cal tossed in? It's definitely Continental and definitely delightful. The sandwiches are amazing. Suzanne's makes their own bread and it shows. -The portabella mushroom sandwich with Asiago cheese is sinful. Every portabella mushroom on earth should be treated this way. -One of my favorites is the beef tenderloin with sauteed onions and Emmanthal on pain rustique. -Recently our little food critic in training ordered the grilled cheese. Asiago, Emmanthal, smoked Mozzarella...all melted on sourdough...needless to say everyone at the table shared her sandwich. Not in the mood for a sandwich? The menu is extensive, with salads, grilled chicken, seafood, and even some truly creative dishes. For my birthday, the staff at Suzanne's brought out a birthday petit four. Even that little treat was superb. As always, I left feeling spoiled, relaxed, and truly content. All of my senses are satisfied.

The pork medallions and new york steak with garlic butter were AMAZING!! The tenderness and juiciness of the pork made me believe in good eats again. I've tried so many places where the pork always ends up being dry and hard to eat(*coughs* OUTBACK). But the pork medallions couple with the pears and cabazole was such a good pair off - I felt my tastebuds singing for joy. My BF's steak was perfectly cooked as well and came out so good. I couldn't make up my mind on whose was better. The servers were attentive and informative - I never had to wait for them to come to the table and ask if we needed anything, they were always on point. The only thing I did not enjoy was my limoncello- lavender spritzer. I really tried to look passed it but my goodness, it was either too strong or the lavender didn't seem to mesh well for me. All in all, GREAT dinner was had. BF and I walked out on the verge of food comas. Unfortunately, we didn't get to try dessert - though, from the look of everyone else's tables with desserts - I was really regretting my decision. I will definitely come back.

I took my girlfriend out for her birthday to Oxnard and we decided to go to Ojai as her mom recommended Suzannes as very good restaurant. We arrived and discovered its an upscale restaurant that you have to make a reservation for. Oops didn't know. But luckily our host let us know that someone canceled their reservation and we were able to get a table. The environment is great and a perfect place to eat when you want to get out of LA. I had seared lamb which was amazing and my girlfriend had filet mignon which was also amazing. The total was about $90 but it is sooooo worth it!! And Ojai is really beautiful so it was a fantastic trip and Suzannes was the icing on top of the cake. Thanks guys!

let me say up front- the food is 5 stars but because of the incredibly small portions of the food (which i would give a 3 for) i am putting an overall rating of 4 stars. the food and ambiance was amazing. it's a very romantic and cozy place to eat- especially on the back patio. yet the portions sizes were distastefully small. i went with 2 of my girlfriends and we ordered a salad and app to share, while we each ordered our own main entree. the salad was about half the size of any salad i have ordered at any other restaurant. the grilled vegetable salad with goat cheese came with very few vegetables and with a single TINY piece of bread with goat cheese spread on it. that is it! why you would you put goat cheese in a description of a dish if it is only a garnish is beyond me. the food was amazing, but it felt kind of cheap of them to be so small on portion sizes (the portions were small with everything we ordered), especially considering the prices they are charging! i will go back i'm sure (i live in ojai now)- but i will go well aware of portion size and not go ravenously hungry. although i would prefer to go there looking forward to an abundant, amazing meal in a beautiful setting (they just have to work on the abundant part). p.s. ironically a couple reviews below me the woman says the portions were generous! either i had an off day experience or she does not eat a lot.

Came on a Sunday night with reservations. We were seated right away and the service was great. Great and relaxinf atmosphere. The food was good but nothing special. I think the fettucine with the truffle sauce is far too buttery. We also tried a pasta dish with tomatoes, zuccini, and spicy sausage--I thought it was better than the fettucine. Not too heavy. They had some delicious sounding daily specials. We ordered the brussel sprouts and an appetizer and I would say that was the BEST part of the meal. Roasted brussel sproats that were just the right texture, sprinkled with some sort of a nut/seeds, and cloves of roasted garlic (which I ate all of). The creme brulee with fresh fruit also really hit the spot, not too heavy or sweet. If you're in Ojai you should definitely get dinner at Suzanne's. Don't forget to get a reservation!

The Place good - Very pleasant, California-informal atmosphere, central location to "downtown" Ojai. bad - nothing indifferent - nothing The Service good - Very nice host; waitress nice and knowledgeable bad - nothing indifferent - Service from the waitress could have been more attentive for this type of high-end bistro. The Food good - Everything was good to great; great homemade barley soup, good but non-NY deli style rueben (hey, this is Cal. ranch area, not Brooklyn), stylish tuna salad and solid portabella sandwich - - - great breads. bad - nothing indifferent - the little salad-style accompaniments were not special in any way, despite being organic and local Overall - The Real Rating - against it's peer group - 4.0 Stars - I'm a fan, but can't rate it a tenth higher - I'd go here when in Ojai and wasn't in the mood for Italian (at the MUCH better Osteria Monte Grappa which is worth driving 50 miles for, because there isn't a better Italian restaurant between LA and SF. - - and it beats anything in San Diego or Santa Barbara)

this restaurant exceeded our expectations on many levels. We couldn't have been happier. Arrived after a long drive from SLO and was ready for a good Sunday dinner, They did not disappoint. Had the jumbo shrimp and Pablano stuffed chili, while wife had the steamed mussels. Both were excellent and were accompanied with the crab corn cake starter which was also a treat. great ending to our anniversary!

Perhaps the best restaurant in Ojai! The ambiance of the restaurant is very romantic. Went for a Birthday dinner and the staff was very courteous and had full knowledge of the wine list! For appetizer we had the ravioli, for the entrees we ordered the rib eye (with a glass of the recommended local red wine) and the butter fish and ALL were excellent!!! (The rib eye was actually cooked to perfection!) For dessert, we had the homemade coffee ice-cream sundae with kahlua...a must to end off the meal! Overall, we were very happy with everything and would recommend Suzanne's to anyone that visits Ojai!

My wife and I chose this place after reading reviews for restaurants in Ojai and this was rated the highest. It wasn't that the food was horrible, but it was definitely not worth the price. After reading reviews about a charred rib eye steak, I ordered it anyway. The flavor was good and the meat was very tender, but it was a little charred. My wife ordered the jumbo shrimp, which included 4 shrimp. They were okay, nothing special. After all of that, we ordered dessert. Dessert was delicious. The Café Liegeois De La Maison was to die for. Overall, the setting and atmosphere was nice and romantic. Service was good. Food was ok, just not worth the money.

Thank you Suzanne and Sandra for a very special family experience. My two brothers and I took my Mom, Dad and our familes to Suzanne's Cuisine last Friday 7/22 for my Mom's 75th birthday. The restaurant was as busy as it can get that evening, but we were treated like family from the moment we walked through the door (actually from the moment I made the reservation-highly recommended!) until the last sip of delicious coffee. Our table had a view of the gorgeous pocket garden on the back patio, yet I felt our position in the room let us be boisterous without bothering other guests. We were never rushed but not neglected either. In fact, I asked that we order our first courses before placing our entree orders. They were very accommodating. Anything with the Maytag Blue Cheese was gobbled up. The heirloom tomato salad earned raves as well. For the main course I had the Scallops while others had the Cornish Game Hen, Shrimp, Butterfly Fish, and other dishes I can't remember. I wish I had taken notes! All ten of us enjoyed our entrees! Suzanne's wine list has a great selection of standbys as well as local choices in a terrific price range to fit nearly any budget. The restaurant does have a $20 corkage fee so unless you bring that really special bottle with you, I'd recommend trying something tasty and local from her list. The deserts were definitely a hit too. I had the apricot/blueberry crumble and scraped my plate clean. I think my Dad almost picked up his plate of flourless chocolate cake and licked it. Nephew Conner ordered a chocolate/peanut butter confection that was a hit as well. Three bottles of wine and all that good food plus a few coffees around the table left us all stuffed to the gills and quite content. Perhaps the greatest pleasures though were the comments of "great restaurant pick!" from my family later that weekend.

Probably the best restaurant in Ojai. Diverse menu, delicious, flavorful food (I had fish, my husband had pasta), intimate setting and attentive service. I would definitely return if I happen to be staying in the area again.

This is our third visit to Suzanne's in three years. She never disappoints! The Heirloom Tomato Salad was amazing! My husband had the trout and I had the veal. Both were excellent. The service was perfect. We drive to Ojai from Orange County once a year to visit Bart's boostore and eat at Suzanne's.

Great experience! Just had my 32 birthday there on 8/31. It was really amazing. Everybody loved their food. The back patio was the perfect place for a small(ish) party, and the wine list was just to my perfect expectations. My game hen wasn't dry, like it always is at other places. I'll definitely be coming back! My boyfriends fish trio was a little over cooked, but most everything else was just amazing. Order the Khalsa coffee!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tomato soup if you're lucky enough to have it while its on special.... I covet this recipe.

Where to begin...? I came to Suzanne's with my best friend who had heard that this was the best organic restaurant in Ojai and wanted to try it for herself. Before we even get to my review, let me start by saying that we arrived on a Saturday that shared the news flashes with the Arts & Music Fair. Being that we were day-tripping and only going there so that I could see this amazing place my friend has been raving about, the plans for dinner didn't dawn on us as being reservation-mandatory until we arrived. The town was poppin'! The arts/music was creatively the target of a 40+ crowd - one that I tend to fit in quite nicely in, being my 29-something-old-self. Upon our first tasting at a local winery, we quickly found the nearest directory and called Suzanne's to make a reservation. "The only time available for a party of 2 is 5:30 or 9. " We opted for the earlier res. It's lacking ambiance is entrapped by the lavish ivy-covered exterior. Inside, the place might as well be lined with coal and matches. My Before I even had an opinion on the quality of food/service, my first red-flag arises. $20 BYO Corkage fee for any bottle you chose to enjoy with your meal. Fine - I get that they are entitled to something - but no bonus/perk to visitors/neighbors who elect to bring in a local wine to be corked? Be it a French Champagne or bottle of Boone's-same-price-as-a-40-oz.-bottle-of-Colt45, there is no difference when the time/check comes for corking. My disappointment was fueled even further when Ricky, the pouer/wine rep from the local tasting room (El ______?) took it upon himself to call the restaurant personally with the hope that they might have more leeway and amicability with a local Ojaian. Much to his, and our surprise, they were steadfast in upholding the $20 fee - no matter who/where/why the customers selected it. For that reason alone, I didn't walk into the place with an open mind - I was already tainted with the greenly shaded greed that shadowed the outside. I can't say if the food was worth good/bad/or even worth comment. My review is referring to the awful business-minded service, demeaning manner/etiquette. I was shocked and disturbed about the way in which Suzanne support local businesses, and I would not chose to eat at such an establishment - even if they were the only place in town - which they are not.

Really good food. Probably the fanciest restaurant in town. Appetizer - Shrimp dumplings with wasabi and rasberry dipping sauces - I could have ordered another round - these were really tasty. Entree - Seared Ahi tuna w/ soy ginger sauce with arugula and carmelized ginger. Yes, the fish was very fresh - but it needed more sauce. I didn't taste the soy ginger sauce I thought it would draped with. We also got the beef short ribs which was very tender and flavorful. I'd order this again. Chocolate ice cream - home made there - packs a punch, strong strong chocolate flavor. Waiter service was ok to good. A few times it took awhile for us to track him down. To top it off, I left my credit card there. They somehow found the hotel I was staying at and returned the card to my hotel that night. That was above and beyond what I would expect - especially since they were closed the next day. Great customer service though.

Gorgeous outdoor seating. Very informative server. Too expensive if you ask me, but then again I make just a little more than minimum wage. It was a perfect setting for a romantic date. Their specialty cocktails were rather immature. I was hoping they would have more classic cocktails, or maybe more unique cocktails. Cucumber Basil martini with lemon, made with locally grown items? Nope. Just a Flirtini or Peach Pucker creation. The food was great! Nothing TOO crazy, but what I ordered was wonderful. I had the fettuccine with truffle cream sauce, portobello mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes and... I forgot. Asked the server to add chicken to it, ended up being a $25 plate. Two main dishes plus 3 cocktails and a glass of wine was $95!! Careful...this place is pricey. But again, the atmosphere, the yummy food and attentive service is definitely worth a trip! If you're interested in this place, I'd recommend looking into The Ranch House too, (Paul Newman's favorite restaurant!)

I'm reluctant to give such a great rating, as I always fear that I won't get a reservation when I'm in Ojai. In sum, the food is the best; the chef is willing to take culinary chances that make it a delight to feast. I prefer the outdoor patio ambiance every time, as the garden in gorgeous. With that said, the service is always very friendly and the restaurant isn't pretentious. I recommend Suzanne's without reserve.

I was recently contacted by the owner of the restaurant who offered a sincere apology and invited us to return. It was a nice gesture by the owner, so I am willing to give the restaurant another chance in the future.

Ate here back in May of 2011. Noticed that another online review compared this restaurant to "Chez Panisse." Please. Aside from the obvious, this restaurant has absolutely NOTHING in common with chez panisse. In a nutshell: ---Very good service. --a list of surprisingly boring cocktails. Like an appletini made with vodka and pucker. Or orange juice, cranberry and vodka. --OK food, but not at all imaginative. An extensive menu, seemed to be priced a good 25% higher than what I would expect to pay, given the overall quality of food. --relatively large portions. Personally, I kept eating and eating...searching desperately for some kind of "flavor" which was simply absent from my meal. --Expensive. I think that our meal, for 3, was $180. Included a bottle of wine and dessert. Not including tip. -I would not return here. There must be better restaurants in Ojai.

Did not love this place. I came for dinner with 8 other gals for a bachelorette weekend. I read such great reviews here and on another review site -- had high hopes. The waitress was wonderful - very sweet and attentive. The food quality was spotty. The asparagus salad was bland, the chicken piccata was...meh, the Seafood Sampler was a bit burnt (yes, all 3 pieces) and the accompanying rice seemed to be cooked in...water. On the other hand, I though the sauce for the seafood sampler was quite tasty, the crab/corn cake was pretty darn good, the heirloom tomato salad was delicious. My favorite was the scallop from the seafood sampler (and I don't normally eat scallops.) We didn't even bother ordering dessert - which is saying a lot with a group of 9 women! It was a darling spot...just don't go in with high expectations.

Well, I don't quite understand why this restaurant gets so many rave reviews here. In my opinion it's vastly overrated, overpriced and hopelessly in need of a serious update (decor and kitchen...). Let's start with the soup - shrimp wontons in a vegetable lemongrass broth. Sounded intriguing, but what we got was a rather bland vegetable broth with not even a hint of lemongrass - instead everything was buried under a gigantic pile of chopped cilantro. The dough wrapped shrimp were on the bland side and had no chance against the overpowering onslaught of the green garnish. We had two kinds of fish afterwards. While the miso marinated butterfish was indeed buttery and very flavorful, the same could not be said of the grilled trout, which came out dry and overdone. But where they really killed both dishes was with the sides - soggy bland rice and tasteless, totally undercooked vegetables. I am all for serving veggies with a bit of a crunch, but throwing them on a plate basically raw with zero seasoning is a joke in my mind. The mostly elderly clientele at the surrounding tables did not seem to mind. We did and shall not return any time soon.

Despite the not so great reviews here, my hubby and I had a splendid meal at Suzanne's. The service was impeccable and for once in a blue moon the hub had nothing to complain about. We started with a crab and corn cake (not my favorite thing but still decent) and a spinach salad (perfect). Moivng on to mains, hubby had the filet and I had butter fish. The filet was perfectly cooked...no sending this steak back! And the butter fish. Oh to die for...so moist and yummy. We shared a dessert but I can't remember what it was so I guess not so memorable. All in all our experience was quite nice. My friend grew up in Ojai and she recommended it so I went with the locals pick!

The food was very good however the atmosphere and service were terrible. Someone was allowed to smoke right outside on the patio when complaints were given, the french doors to the patio had to be shut and the restaurant became very hot. We had to track down the manager to turn on the AC and fan. The waitress never smiled or interacted with us except to keep coming back to ask if we were ready to order. For the price you pay at this restaurant, there should be a 5 diamond approach to a fine dining atmosphere, especially when a 5 diamond resort recommended us to eat there.

i really enjoyed this place WAY more than i thought i would... entree: Rosemary Roasted Rack Of Lamb With A Mustard Herb Crust. i hate lamb that smells like lamb (i.e. gamey)... but i love lamb that doesn't smell (at all, not even a little)... if you are like me... or maybe even if you like lamb whether it's gamey or not... their lamb was delicious. dessert: Café Liegeois De La Maison... for those of you that are scared to order things that you have trouble pronouncing or perhaps things that you just don't know what they are and don't automatically google everything on your iphone... café liegeois is a french coffee ice cream dessert and i know that may sound boring... but it's AMAZING i tell ya! now, i love coffee ice cream and of course i loved it... my bf, however, does not like coffee ice cream and he LOVED it too... so go ahead and give it a try... what was the other dessert we ordered? see? i don't even remember... because the café liegeois definitely stole the show. yes, i'm planning a 2 hour roadtrip for a glorified coffee ice cream sundae... and ya know what? it's totally worth it!

We opted for Suzanne's over the Ranch House because of its more extensive menu, especially for a vegetarian. Overall, I liked Suzanne's. The service was quite good and without attitude. The food was also very good (good dinner rolls as well). I wish we had had a better table, but I got the impression that I got the last available table when I called on Wednesday before a Saturday dinner. We ended up sitting near the door. It wasn't too crazy, but it would have been better to be elsewhere. At first, it was pretty quite. We went early at 7, but by the time we left at 9, it was getting very loud in there. The back patio looked pretty amazing, really more like an indoor area without walls than a 'patio.' I think it would be best to sit out there next time. I didn't think it mattered too much when I was told that we were sitting in the 'dining room' multiple times, but I admit that the patio seemed superior. Make your reservations for a Saturday early in the week. This is Ojai, there's only like 3 places for a fancy dinner.

Dear Ojai, how I envy you. This is the type of restaurant every foodie enjoys, and tourism boards dream. I visited on a Sunday lunch, fortunate to get a table without a reservation. A simple chef's special of a open-faced buratta sandwich with heirloom tomatoes and a green salad was my choice, washed down with a brownie and vanilla ice cream. First, the prices are extremely reasonable. Frankly, $14 for a simple, great dish is a super value. Sub $5 homemade desserts? Whoa! The food? Fresh, well-prepared. The chef is good enough to not refrigerate the heirloom tomatoes. GREAT. Would have been even better with specialty heirloom tomatoes, instead of a simpler dark red beefsteak heirloom. Still, that's splitting hairs. The dessert was great. I never order them unless it's prepared on site. The vanilla was great, and the chocolate flavors good. I always hope for darker chocolate, but that is a preference. Service was thoughtful, friendly, and educated. Fairly prompt, too. I struggle with scoring. Is this place edgy enough to be a 5 star place? No. Is it it great for what it is? Yes. Value value value. I would give it 4 1/2, but I have no half stars. So, because the food is so good and I want more places like this, it's getting a rare 5 from me. Still, I think there is room for improvement if Suzanne wants a real [Michellin] star.

From hearty, cooked-to-exact specification tenderloin steak sandwiches with grilled onions and bell peppers, to scrumptious, well-priced desserts: rich mousses, delicious brownie, chocolate sauce and ice cream, chocolate peanut butter cake, to name a few, Suzanne's is quite a find. What makes it unforgettable, is the patio, taken straight from a Monet scene, with pretty roses, modest fountain, and a little walking path - lovely. The service is great, and the ambiance is perfect for a romantic lunch or dinner.

Great restaurant. I enjoyed sitting in the patio...the garden and fountain atmosphere was very relaxing. I had a Southwest Salad which tasted great...fresh ingredients. The rolls and butter also tasted freshly made. The rating is dinged one star because a soda is charged by the can and very expensive. A tip is to stick to ordering the water.

Walking through the garden next door to get into the restaurant was a nice start to a lovely lunch. While on on extended stay in the Santa Barbara area, we took a drive up to Ojai to meet some friends and chose Suzanne's. We had a reservation for 6 an we were sat right away, the place was busy but not full so this was to be expected. Service was good, nothing special. The food was dang good. The table ordered roasted chicken with potato's, reuben sandwich, Uncle Angelo's favorite meatball sandwich, grilled cheese sandwich, crab salad. Everything was awesome, the roasted chicken was a standout, it was seasoned perfect and the serving was enough for 2. The crab salad was also 2 thumbs ups and not over done as can happen with crab. Try it if you are a seafood lover. Prices are good, if you are in the area this place is worth the trip.

Everything about Suzanne's is picture perfect. Our setting was a cozy table by the fireplace, outside on the patio by a beautiful garden, complete with a fountain and twinkling white lights. Very romantic! We didn't order anything to drink because we had a great bottle of wine at our resort, so to start the server brought us waters, and a bread basket with a small plate of olives, olive oil, and butter. Fancy! The assortment of breads were all terrific (and they kindly asked if we wanted more when we polished it off, yes please!) =) For appetizers we ordered the crab cake, and shrimp wontons in lemongrass soup. The crab cake was HUGE and absolutely delicious. No filler, just a light batter and yummy chunks of crab meat. The shrimp wontons were good, but the soup was a bit salty. Of course you can get better wontons at a Chinese restaurant for much cheaper, but I wanted to see how they did it here. They were just fine. For our entrees we ordered the miso butterfish and the filet mignon. The miso butterfish was melt-in-your-mouth ah-maaaazing!!! I highly suggest ordering this dish. It comes with some of the freshest veggies, that I'm sure are from their own garden! My boyfriend wanted steak and opted for the filet mignon, which was just okay in my opinion. Good but not great. This came with the same yummy veggies that my fish came with, and mashed potatoes. By the end of our entrees we were stuffed, but being the dessert fiend I am, I just HAD to order dessert. I must have misheard the waitress who described their special desserts of the night. I wanted the pineapple dessert with homemade coconut ice cream (YUM!!) but got the chocolate and peanut butter torte instead. (Yea weird how this happened, silly me for thinking the torte came with the ice cream!!). I was bummed since I didn't really want a heavy dessert, but the torte was good. The service and ambiance were amazing, and for overall experience, it does not get any better than this, folks. Thank you Suzanne's for a truly memorable evening. We cannot wait to come back!

I absolutely love this place! Suzanne's is on my list every single time I come to Ojai. It's just that good! I first came to Suzanne's in 1996 and have been here at least once a year since. This is a mom and daughter operation with the mom being the cook and the daughter (with a Chicago connection, I might add) doing the business end of things. The restaurant itself is unpretentious and welcoming. A small bar up front and tables in the back - what they call the patio area although it is covered and heated with fireplaces and what I like to call LA heaters (you know what I mean, those gas heaters that are portable and are used outdoors). I actually brought a sweater tonight as it was cool, but there was no need as it was actually quite warm on "the patio". There is a small garden at the end of the patio which has a fountain and the sound of trickling water with the fresh scent of herbs and roses is intoxicating! The food and service is also amazing. Suzanne's uses the freshest ingredients and always has a specials menu and often times has things that are not even on the specials menu. Tonight, for example, I had an eggplant, goat cheese and tomato basil tart to start with. Not on the menu but the server suggested it. This was so good. I'd love to be able to make it at home. Next- I tried the steamed mussels and I have to say that the tomato onion broth rivaled that of my favorite mussels preparation in Chicago. The mussels were large and firm and there were no empty shells in the bunch. Finally for my entree I had the butterfish (black cod) which was prepared with wasabi caviar and miso (amazing flavors) and served with a balsamic rice patty and vegetables. I wanted to have room for some of their home made ice creams (my favorite is coconut) but tonight there was no room. That's okay. I watched a couple at the next table ooh and ahh over theirs! The wine list is extensive and most bottles are under $50. My only wish would be that there were more wines by the glass as I was limited to 4 whites and 4 reds- and there are no half bottles on the menu. Speaking of price- the meal I had tonight would have cost me well over $100 in Chicago. But even with 3 martinis- my bill was only $82. The service is attentive without being overbearing. They also go out of their way to work together as a team and deal with issues as they come up. Case in point- the poor guy that the women at the next table asked to relight the LA heater after she had turned it off. He did it and joked all the while he was doing it. Gotta love a good attitude ! Check out Suzanne's the next time you are in the area. It is certainly worth the effort to drive a little out of the way into the Ojai Valley for some amazing food, great atmosphere, and service that is second to none. I will be sure to visit again when I am back in town!

This is a great little restaurant. It is casual, but still a nice place to have a good meal. There is a great ambiance and the servers did very well with my two year old. Bringing him crayons, a little giraffe and paper, he was entertained. However, being a vegetarian, it was a bit more difficult to eat there. I tried the veggie and rice dish at $25. This dish was full of different veggies and rice. However, it was lacking a bit in taste and imagination. My boyfriend tried the sea bass instead of the steak and seemed pleased. Unfortunately, we were unable to try the dessert which looked amazing. We will definitely give Suzanne's another try when we go back to Ojai.

My favorite restaurant ever. Seriously. I used to consider T. Cook's in AZ my favorite, but they weren't really consistent on their menu offerings. Suzanne's offers a very nice ambience, whether it's dinner with a good friend or even a business meal for a large group where they let us buy out the patio area. This is my third or fourth time there over the past 7 years and it's been consistently good. This last time we shared a roasted garlic bruschetta starter which came with two pieces, I had the white asparagus salad which came with prosciutto and blue cheese, followed by the rack of lamb, then topped with fruit sorbet, of which I received four scoops. Four! My friend had a regular salad, the butterfish which she said was better than Hawaii's and THE best butterfish she's ever had . What a claim. She wiped that plate clean and then topped her meal off with a cherry crisp a la mode. We rolled out of there very happy. I like this place because it's really close to the Ojai Valley Inn, so it's convenient if you don't want to eat on property, but want something good and close by. On a nice night, it's even close enough to walk off the meal, which I wanted to do afterwards. The people there are very nice, the food has been awesome every time I've been and this is one of those places where I would want my currently non-existent bf to take me for a special occasion. Even if it's 1.5 hours away. Totally worth the drive.

Suzanne's is always top notch and consistent. Consistently good that is. The service is always nothing but warm & professional. We started with a few appetizers: oysters, duck pate & a special for the night shrimp dumplings. The dumplings were fantastic, and the duo of dipping sauces only complimented them. The oysters were so fresh they needed nothing, not even lemon. Our entrees were spot on. The seafood sampler, all of the fish was cooked perfectly and served with a nice rice medley. My husbands lamb was cooked to the chefs suggestion, again- perfection. We finished our meal with a chocolate pb cake, and what was obviously homemade cheesecake with fresh berries and fresh made raspberry sauce. I can tell you from the handful of times that I've gone, I order something different each time and it's always fantastic. You won't go home hungry or disappointed.

My husband and I came here for lunch and it was the best meal we had the whole time we were in Ojai. There is a serene ambiance of fresh flowers everywhere and we sat on the outside patio just gazing at the garden. We started with the chicken chile and dipped our two different types of table bread into it. So good! Then my husband ordered the steak sandwich and I had the duck salad. I loved how the duck wasn't overly sauced- the salad tasted so fresh. We both drank big iced teas that never went empty. It was such a great lunch I would recommend it to everyone who visits Ojai!

We just had such a strange experience at this restaurant while on vacation in Ojai. We arrived and the hostess told us that we were twelve minutes early and had to wait. Our res was at 7:30 and we were there at 7:18. Okay -- there were open tables, but whatever -- it was more the lecture-y way the hostess talked to me, my mom, and my pregnant sister (!), as though she was irritated that we got there early. So, we waited. And five minutes before our reservation, another party arrived, and they were seated right away. I asked why they were seated when we were still waiting. And she snapped, "Well, it doesn't matter. I can seat you now." And again, we were so confused by her attitude. It was like, well, it kind of DOES matter since you made it seem so important that nobody sit before their reservation time. So we tried to put that past us and enjoy dinner. The thing is, the food was fine, but not destination worthy and definitely overpriced. If you live near great restaurants, I hate to say it but you'll be disappointed. And then, we got harassed by a waiter! My mom asked if he could turn on a heat lamp (they're all over the patio) and he told her that she "has to be considerate of other patrons." As though she were being inconsiderate by asking. Honestly, we're three nice ladies, so this was so strange! I don't know what to make of the attitude there, except that they seem a little harried and like there are a lot of rules. It kind of reminded me of flying on United! Stressed out stewards and stewardesses who have an us against them mentality. Still, the empowering thing about Yelp is you can speak up! I love that! Anyway, I wish we had gone someplace else. Next time we will!

Stumbled across Suzanne's (thanks to Yelp, of course) on a weekend in Ojai and had a delightful meal. Sat out on the patio overlooking a serene, garden. Despite the presence of the bachlorette party at the table next to us, we managed to have a relaxing meal consisting of a fresh tasting Gazpaucho; a generous Arrugula salad with beets and pancetta; Brandino and a sour cherry crisp. All the dishes were well prepared, the Brandino cooked perfectly, and teh sour cherry crisp a great balance of sweet and tart. We'll definitely go back when we're in Ojai again.

Went to Suzanne's again on Saturday night, and had the large grilled shrimp with the pasta shells stuffed with goat cheese marinara sauce. Probably should have stuck with the lamb again, but the service was once again impeccable and super attentive.

Had read some great reviews on Yelp prior to arriving in Ojai and we were very glad we chose to have dinner here. It seemed to be a very popular restaurant, we made reservations at noon hour for dinner on the same day and they only had a few seatings available (this was for a Wednesday night - mind you it was over the Christmas break). We were seated on their back 'patio' an enclosed outdoor area. It was cozy with ambient lighting, and sufficient heat coming from the wood burning fireplace and heaters. They had a good range of wines by the glass. Although they were out of quite a few entree items on the menu, there was still plenty of choice and variety. The pork medallions were very tasty and my husband enjoyed his mahimahi. We were both tempted by the dessert menu and enjoyed an after dinner coffee drink as well. The waitress seemed very knowledgeable and was helpful in making a few recommendations. Would definitely eat here again!

Had a special reunion with some out of state family planned. Wanted to meet at a place in Ojai where they'd be staying. Found Suzanne's via Yelp and Zagat search. We scheduled for 12 noon on a Saturday 6/1/13 knowing how busy Ojai can get. Our party of 7 was seated in back of the patio so any undo noise wouldn't bother other patrons. Service was spectacular and very attentive. One older member needed help to make the patio chair more comfortable which the waitress took care of PDQ! The lunch menu is very reasonable with regards to selection and price. The money you save can be used for the wonderful wine selection if so desired. If you're looking for something much nicer than the average, atmosphere in spades (the grounds, parking and garden all excel in comfort and layout), then give this fabulous restaurant a try. Attention to detail is top notch. Very friendly staff tries hard to make your visit something to remember! Next trip we're excited to have dinner. BTW - we drove 350 miles to dine here and would do so again.

Service was great. My parents would probably love the food. It's the kind that relies heavily on easy fallbacks like butter, salt and meat to provide the backbone of the flavor. I prefer healthier alternatives that also taste great. I'd say this is a perfect choice for the 50, 60-something crowd.

We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night. Make reservations so they'll seat you outside in the garden; it's GORGEOUS out there! We started off with an eggplant tart for appetizers... and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either (this is the only reason I took off one star). However, our entrees were AMAZING! I had the Dover Sole and my girlfriend had the Filet Mignon and they were both flavorful and cooked to perfection. I mean, just wonderful!!!!! For dessert, we had the flourless chocolate cake with brandied sour cherries and homemade vanilla ice cream. Equally amazing as our entrees. The staff was friendly and prompt. Such a cute restaurant. I can't wait to come when the next time I'm in Ojai.

This is a lovely location. The service is "perfect". The wines are well chosen. The ingredients are clearly superior to what is served in most other restaurants. Sadly I feel that the execution in the kitchen could be much better. I find the dishes, after three visits, a little heavy and bland. It is hard to put my finger on precisely what is missing, but it seems more "character" is needed in preparing the dishes. More pepper? More herbs here and there? Time will tell. I look forward to my next visit.

Came here for Mother's Day dinner. We started out with the crab and corn cake and the squash blossoms. Crab cake was large and delicious, but the squash blossoms (3 of them) were small and not so pretty looking. I love lightly fried squash blossoms stuffed with ricotta or goat cheese, so I was excited to try their version, This appetizer was not fried, but sautéed; the blossoms were stuffed with herb goat cheese and over marinara sauce. It tasted fine, but I thought I could have done it better at home. Luckily, our entrees were outstanding. We all ordered 3 different types of fish: miso marinated butterfish, sweet chili black cod and sea bass. All were cooked perfectly and flavorful. Lovely presentation, too. Highly recommend their fish. For dessert, we split the Lemon berry tart. The sweetness from the berries and sauce was cut by the tartness the lemon, making it a really well balanced dessert. It was also a pretty generous size, easily shared by 3 people. Service was friendly and relatively attentive. The kalamata olive rolls are also amazing!

Suzanne's has my favorite wine list ANYWHERE - I mean anywhere. There are pages and pages of wines I love at incredible prices - SINE QUA NON at retail - no joke. For that reason alone I love this place. How's the food? I've been many times and it has ranged from good to fabulous. The menu is massive - I always have a helluva time deciding, which is not like me. I wonder if the quality would go up if they shrank it? I mean it's pretty absurdly large for a restaurant of its size. But as I said, nothing I've had there has ever been less than good and few things have been incredible. Their tuna bruschettas (fancy tuna melts) at lunch - oh my, I dream about them. Oh my. I wish Ojai weren't so far away and hard to get to - I'd love to go to Suzanne's more often - it's a funky little "neighborhood gem". The service is always great, btw.

We've been to Suzanne's several times in the past two years. Each time has been a delightful experience. First, the service is always great. The staff is very attentive, but not too attentive and very knowledgeable about the large menu selection. On this visit, I ordered the braised short ribs over penne and my wife ordered the New York strip. Both were outstanding. Often times, one can make a better steak at home than you would receive at a restaurant. Not in this case. My wife's steak was amazing. It was cooked perfectly and the flavors were outstanding. My short ribs were equally good. The tender ribs were braised in a rich tomato based sauce. Each bite was full of flavor. We were so satisfied. Suzanne's is an expensive restaurant, so it is not a regular stop for us. It is our go to for any special occasion.

We are in Ojai for a business meeting every February and always look forward to at least one meal at Suzanne's. The food is always of the highest quality, creatively prepared and beautifully served. For dinner this past Friday (Feb. 10), I had ... Butter lettuce salad with goat cheese and pepitas - I'm currently obsessed with butter lettuce - so sweet and tender. This was perfectly matched with super creamy goat cheese and the lightest dressing. A+ Salmon - served with the most delightful pomegranate sauce, rice and perfectly cooked selection of vegetables. I seriously thought my entree was PERFECT. A+++ Creme Brûlée - I had talked myself into passing on dessert this evening as I knew I would be eating a lot this weekend, but that was before I was offered Creme Brûlée!!! I have had it at Suzanne's before and knew it would be outstanding. I caved! This evening, the CB was serves with fresh fruit - strawberries and a few raspberries. It was worth the splurge! A++ Do not miss a chance to dine at Suzanne's.

Frankly, I was surprised by the glowing reviews. Dined here on a Friday night with another couple to celebrate our anniversaries. The food was mediocre at best. I had the fettucine with goat and truffle sauce, which was horribly bland. My husband had the pork medallions, which tasted like pure salt. The desserts were delicious but still did not justify the amount of money we spent here. Side note: Split charge for appetizers??? That is just tacky as appetizers are meant to be shared. Decor was dated and service was just okay. We had better service at a pub at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa.

What a lovely evening my husband and I had celebrating my birthday at this truly delightful restaurant. The menu is creative and made with extremely fresh ingredients. We had a wonderful table outside on the patio overlooking Suzanne's Cuisine's very own garden (AHA! The reason why everything is so darned fresh!) I knew we were in for a treat when a server brought out a basket of assorted breads and a 3 inch square of butter with a tiny parsley leaf delicately placed in the center. The butter was literally so fresh that I could smell it as it was placed in the middle of our table. I began my meal with a bowl of their seasonal tomato soup. Simply sublime and so fresh that I felt like tomato juices must have been running through my veins and that I too could become one with the garden......but maybe that's just my overactive imagination and love of sci-fi! Anyway, my husband started with a butter lettuce salad. He loved the mix of flavors, the sweetness of the pecans juxtaposed with a tangy balsamic vinaigrette. I chose the Seafood Sampler; a trio of Atlantic Salmon, Mahi-Mahi and Scallops in a ginger curry sauce with wild rice and mixed vegetables. The fish and vegetables were perfectly cooked but I kept wishing the sauce was a tad more flavorful. My husband had the New York Strip with mixed vegetable and mashed potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and well seasoned and he loved it all! For dessert we had the Sour Cherry Crisp with a dollop of fresh vanilla ice cream. When I made the reservation a couple of weeks ago I did let it leek that it was my birthday and when they brought out the dessert they had placed a lit candle in the center and wrote Happy Birthday in chocolate sauce on around the edge of the plate. Nice touch, very nice. And, oh my god, was it delicious! The ice cream was heaven, and I'm not a huge ice cream person although I do appreciate homemade, the crust was sinful and the cherries were perfectly tart. The service was perfectly attentive, there when you need them but not at all hovering. Thanks to our superb server Heather and the other servers and bus staff. We both left with FULL bellies and BIG smiles!

We were on our way up to the Classic Rock Concert in Libbey Park & wanted a casual yet nice & romantic place to stop for lunch. Since their Yelp listing had suggested reservations, we called ahead enroute & had no problem getting a patio table out by their very lovely garden. Yes the place is lovely. Now, the menu made it pretty hard for my wife & I since we usually like to share entrees & we picked a salad & a sandwich to share & there were so many great items, it was hard to decide!. The Smoked Chicken w/sundried tomatoes, etc, etc. was perfect, just about the most tender chicken possible!! Our steak sandwich with grilled onions was perfectly cooked & delicious. Oh yea, FRESH BAKED BREADS, piping hot from the oven, xlnt. We had been there before, also for a Classic Rock show & dropped into Suzanne's for dinner & it was xlnt. Check out their menu before, just to be sure it's in your price range, but for the money, it's a lovely experience & we'll be back again. PS..... our band The Neil Deal, neildeal.com has performed several shows at Libbey Park & we always make a weekend of it & love to come & visit Ojai. Lovely people.

Loved this place! Came last night with my boyfriend and thanks to the Inn we were staying at (Emerald Iquana) scored a dinner table on the patio. Our table looked out onto an English style garden complete with rose bushes and a fountain. Beautiful and very romantic! We had delicious cocktails which included a Flirtini and some kind of cooler with OJ and some other fruit juice (cranberry or pomengranate).Yum! The bread was hot, delicious and served with softened butter. My boyfriend had the chicken picatta and I had pork tenderloin. Both outstanding. Mine came with a delicious gravy, poached pears, cambizola cheese and steamed vegetables. Even the side dish of veggies was great, impressive when so often they are an afterthought (and overdone) at other restaurants. The service was top notch also. My only regret is that the entree was so large I didn't have room to try the peanut butter torte about which I read so many great reviews. Would definitely return on a future trip to Ojai.

Whenever you go to Ojai and are looking for a fancy-ish restaurant, someone is bound to recommend Suzanne's. My expectations were extremely high given this is the nicest restaurant in Ojai but I must say I wasn't that impressed. The food was tasty, nice service but I wouldnt describe it as delicious or a special experience.

Came out to Ojai (near Santa Barbara) with my mom, her best friend, and best friend's daughter for a relaxing, fun, girl's weekend at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa (which will be reviewed next :)). One of the bellmen recommended this restaurant and it was great! We had an early reservation at 6pm, so we had no wait. The server was friendly, funny, and more importantly, knowledgeable. I ordered a rigatoni with italian sausage, mom had the calves liver, Linda had the Bouillabaisse, and Kim had the angel hair pasta with jumbo shrimp. Personally, I thought the liver was gross, but if you enjoy liver, i'm sure it was tasty. My rigatoni was great, just lacking a bit of salt. The bouillabaisse was FANTASTIC and kim enjoyed her angel hair pasta. The desserts were also divine. We had a flourless chocolate torte and the ice cream sunday, which was covered in baileys... Pretty decent, but a bit overpriced. But hey, we were in a resort town...

I like the ambience of this place, it's pretty romantic, too bad we couldn't sit outside due to the cold weather. We ordered from the special of the day. I like my dover sole, it's very thin and light. My BF ordered the miso butterfish and it was a little bit too salty. The Flirtini is good, also the Herrington, more manly martini drink. They had the best dessert ever. It's a vanilla custard with baked fresh pineapple and topped with coconut ice cream. It was dancing in my mouth!!!! Not too sweet and not too heavy. Service is great also.

Very good dinner. The butternut squash soup did not have any flavor and was too thin but other than that, we both really enjoyed our entrees. Patio was pretty and service was good. We would definitely return.

We went there based on many local and internet recommendations and could not have been more disappointed. The ambiance was ok, we sat outside by the fire. But first the salads: I ordered the "grilled vegetable" salad. The description said that it was grilled zucchini, eggplant, green beans, asparagus and sun dried tomatoes with herbed goat cheese. Call me nuts but was I ever disappointed by my pile of lettuce topped with two undercooked asparagus spears, a few almost raw green beans, no eggplant, two sad pieces of sundried tomato and a small pile of plain goat cheese on a piece of baguette. I sent it back! The fish dish we ordered was a very boring but nicely cooked branzino on soggy white rice, a mere scattering of undercooked, unseasoned vegs thrown around. No sauce or seasoning. Big disappointment. Maybe new chef, just back from vacation (still on vacation?) or trying to do too many items.

The day before Easter, my husband and I went to a screening of The Third Man, and then it was 6 in the evening in Ojai, so we decided to pop into Suzanne's to see if they could squeeze us in for dinner. The nice hostess let us know that we could get a table right then, but that we'd have only an hour or so before those who'd rsvp-ed would arrive. That was more than fine with us, but then some other woman lurking nearby irritated us by noting "You'll probably just have time for one course." As if anyone's going to tell #hennyandpete how many courses we could handle! We were seated right in the middle of an enchanting patio that faced a lovely English rose garden containing Japanese-y fountains, surrounded by tables of diners and layers of beautifully glistening drinking glasses, which created a wonderfully cinematic vibe for us. We toasted our magical Saturday evening with a Pimms Cup and a martini that dazzled me with its breathtaking clarity and then became so immersed in discussing the achingly beautiful final scene in The Third Man that we hardly cared that our gentle waitress was a bit spacey. Hey lady, here's to your one-course mind: We relished the great oysters on the half shell (Oysters are one of our things, and these were quite fresh and a great deal at $12 for a 1/2 dozen.), a lively asparagus and greens salad, savory eggplant tarte, an ultra comforting angel hair pasta with anchovies and flavorful tomatoes, and a decently decadent dessert of flourless chocolate cake (über dense), brandied cherries, and homemade vanilla ice cream. And then we rose from our table that had been ours for less than sixty minutes and walked hand-in-hand out to life's infinite courses...

Lovely decor and ambiance. Service was very friendly. The escargot was pretty good- they didn't load it up with breadcrumbs like other places, and let you really enjoy the snail. So why three stars? I was not that happy with my rib eye. The rib eye is advertised as a chimichurri based sauce. Chimichurri is mostly garlic, parsley and olive oil. This steak was drenched in a sugar-soy based sauce. I'm not talking 'lightly braised', I'm talking DRENCHED. Like, the sugar sauce was all over the plate and in my veggies, too. I called the waitress over and was like 'this... isn't chimichurri'. She was like 'we add soy sauce'. That is not chimichurri. But my biggest peeve was that it was so sugary. I eat a sugar free diet. I ate the steak anyways (I was starving and cold from a day in the mountains) but ended up having a bad physical reaction later that night due to the sugar. Probably won't eat here again, as I feel the food is not represented well. If you have dietary needs, please speak up and ask questions. My bad for not sending back the steak; I had reached 'critical mass' with the hunger and didn't want to deal with a send back.

My husband and I had the most amazing anniversary dinner last night! We sat outside on the patio right in front of the beautiful rose garden. So romantic! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. Our server surprised us with a small strawberry desert on a dish that read "Happy Anniversary" in chocolate! So thoughtful! We highly recommend this restaurant to all!

We liked the dishes available on the menu, the ambience, and the service. We knew that it was going to be one of the more expensive restaurants in Ojai, but the quality and service were commensurate with the prices.

  • Caroline S.

Great down home place with super friendly people and good food but in my opinion way too pricey for what it is. You can definitely tell that they capitalize off Ojai Valley Inn clientele so that is the only reason I gave it 3 stars, otherwise the food was 4.5 stars. For what I got that was $27 was very minimul with small portion of angel hair pasta and a few giant jumbo shrimp. When I called to make reservations they acted like I would be lucky to get in for their last two tables at 8:30 and we showed up early hoping to get in early and it appeared to me that there were lots of tables available so not sure if they are trying to create a hype or not but still overall fairly good option when you have very few in this little town.

This is one of the places we visit regularly and I can't believe I haven't reviewed it before! The service is always great and beautiful ambiance. I always get the escargots and enjoy their steaks. The place is a bit overpriced for what you get, so it's not quite at 5-star level but it's a nice place for a celebration. Also avoid the meatballs - they are not the best thing on the menu.

Love dining at Suzanne's when in Ojai. The beautiful garden in the back means you should go for a lunch so you can see, as well as at night when the menu changes. Inside, your senses are treated to the scent of many flowers. When I went, bouquets of lilies. Ah, you must stop and sniff. The staff is super friendly, and they treated us special even though we can't visit often enough. But when they share the love, it sure makes you want to visit more often. Tomato salad excellent although some tomatoes were too ripe, if you know what I mean. I did not like my mussels dish, too much spicy tomato. Loved my fish. Crisp exterior, moist interior. We were full so we declined dessert, but because it was our anniversary, the waitress surprised us with some fresh berries and chocolate spelling out Happy Anniversary.

Went here for an anniversary dinner and really enjoyed it. I had curry scallops for dinner and baked figs for dessert. The meal was very good and the service was great. Unfortunately the back patio was closed that evening, but it looked beautiful. Instead, we ate on the deck overlooking the mountains and were very happy with the view. The food was very fresh and local which I love. It felt very "farm to table".

pork medallions and pear and cheese dish was a delightful groupings of flavors. the demi glace sauce seemed unnecessary though did provide a little moisture for the potatoes. homemade ice cream was good as was the peanut butter chocolate tart. excellent service. large dining area.

Excellent food but the menu has become a bit "stuck" in recent years. It used to vary more with the seasonal availability of various meats and produce. Not it seems the same every time I visit. It's a beautiful setting and still an Ojai favorite.

Whomp whomp. Such uninspired cuisine from a restaurant with such high ratings. Mussels w/ Thai broth were over-cooked, very standard flavoring, nothing special. Meatballs verged on tasteless and were boring. Fine for a children's menu but don't put this on a regular menu and charge $20 for it. Goat cheese stuffed shells were exactly what they sound like - and not in a good way. No magic whatsoever here, and for $20+/entree I expected more. Left feeling bloated, stuffed, and dissatisfied.

Underwhelmed. After reading and hearing all the wonderful things about this restaurant we had to try it out. Unfortunately the food lacked flavor and overall was huge disappointment. For the amount of money we spent I was expecting much higher quality and service. Bummer.

I recommend the savory pork medallion dinner. Husband loved the jumbo shrimp in chile garlic butter entree. Appetizer of clams Provençal was delicious too. Good service. Lovely ambience on patio, lacking similar ambience inside. Enjoyed our two year anniversary dinner and would definitely return!

I have been a regular customer for 4 years. This is one of the best restaurants in Ventura County. Prices are reasonable, and the food is consistently very good. There are negatives: - The desserts are not top notch. - The patio is crowded and noisy. - They try to toss you out after 2 hours, or pressure you to do so. - The seats are all hard and resemble $30 models from Costco. - Most of the glasses of wine are not top notch & expensive. Also, now all you get is 4 ounces (standard procedure to cut costs). The above is why they did not get 4 stars.

The restaurant is on the main street of Ojai, near the entry into town. The layout itself is quaint with a decent size patio (w/ heatlamps) in addition to the main dining room. Though the lunch menu was light, it has enough choices to satisfy different tastes. The portions are large. Lunch salads were heaping. My herb-roasted chicken was an entire half of a good-sized chicken. Many other diners left with doggy-bags.

  • Meryl K.

The food was great here. The patio seating is lovely, as you are outside, but it is somewhat enclosed so you are not dealing with a lot of bugs and whatnot. The only downside to this restaurant was the pace of the service was a bit slow for my taste. It took a while for our entrees to come out after our appetizers, it felt like it was too long. The entire meal took about 2 hours. Nonetheless, because you are in such a quaint environment the length of the meal was still enjoyable.

I don't give five stars lightly, but my experience at Suzanne's was pretty much flawless from start to finish. Our hostess/server was friendly and timely without being intrusive. Our table next to the fountain provided a beautiful setting with the sound of running water and a view of rose bushes and butterflies amid the other flora. We went for lunch and the food was all wonderful, from the bread to the soup to the sandwiches. We tried the salmon sandwich and tuna bruchetta, and I found both to have a wonderful flavor. I especially liked the tuna, but my lunch companion especially liked the salmon so I wouldn't say one was a clear winner. The iced tea is very good and I was very pleased that my glass was never allowed to get below the half empty point. It's a pet peeve of mine to run out of tea during my meal. I was also pleased with the timing. Bread was quickly followed by soup, but we had just enough time to fully enjoy our soup before the sandwiches arrived. Not to quickly, and not too long between. Just perfect. Overall, I would have rated it very well based on the food and service alone, but add the beautiful setting and it was quite over the top.

To be honest, we never got the chance to eat here. While visiting relatives in L.A. We made reservations for a day trip to Ojai. Suzannes website indicated that they were pet friendly so my sister brought her small chihauha mix with us. I made reservations through their website and even left a note stating we needed patio seating to accommodate the small dog. Reservations were accepted, a call made to confirm, so we were on our way. The man who greeted me proceeded to tell me they do not accept pets on their patio, but we could tie the dog up on their front patio (which had tables and chairs) but we could not eat out there with the dog, huh? We would have to sit inside and watch him through the French doors. Okay I understand if a restaurant does not want to accept pets then don't say you do on your website! When I asked him about his website he said "Oh, someone must have gone in and messed it up". Well then why don't you fix it?

This was just a really enjoyable meal! We started with the mushroom puree soup; very flavorful. Then we had the roasted salmon with pesto, and a pasta with portabello, asparagus, sun-dried tomato and a goat cheese sauce; all perfectly cooked. Every dessert that came out to the tables near us looked great; we chose the chocolate peanut butter torte. My only complaint is that I wish we had enough restraint to bring some home rather than gorge myself then and there and have to roll myself out to the car... I was surprised to see some of the recent negative reviews. We had a positive experience. I'm as big a foodie as anyone (and came to realize a long time ago that it is more fun to simply have fun than to poke fun, but at any rate...). The ambiance was enjoyable, our waitress was friendly and professional, we never felt rushed, the restaurant was full but not so noisy that we couldn't hear each other, the food was fresh/well-prepared and I thought the prices were reasonable. It's true I live closer to LA, so perhaps my idea of reasonable prices and noise levels, etc., are influenced by that, but we really enjoyed our meal.

What a lovely experience. Everything we ate was fresh and creative. I was especially impressed with the seasonal fish served over homemade sauerkraut with a dill beurre blanc; the waiter said it was a totally unique experience, and he was right! I didn't expect those flavors to work so well together. I also loved the patio atmosphere and the friendly, attentive service. I'm glad my husband and I chose to have a nice dinner at Suzanne's instead of spending money on overpriced food at our nearby resort.

This was the "fanciest" restaurant we ate at while in Ojai, but it still maintains a laid-back vibe. The portions were very generous when compared to similar prices in LA restaurants. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall, a good place for dinner in Ojai.

We just went here for lunch with a relative from Michigan. It was definitely a hit! The patio was full when we got here, so we ate dinner in the dining room, which was very nice and comfortable - complete with linen tablecloths and beautiful fresh flowers on each table. All the food was amazing. I had a salmon sandwich - maybe the best I've ever had! It was served on toasted whole grain bread, and had a dill/mustard sauce. The salmon was perfectly done. I will definitely order this again when I return (which hopefully will be soon!). My wife had the tuna bruschetta sandwich, also delicious. It was served open face on 4 small bruschetta-style pieces of bread, along with a salad. My aunt had a roast beef sandwich, which was also delicious and big enough to take half home for dinner. By the time we finished our meal, the patio had cleared out. They were gracious enough to move us to the patio for dessert and coffee. What a treat! The patio is walled in on 3 sides, and covered - complete with heaters and ceiling fans to keep guests comfortable in all weather. There were lots of green plants on the patio, but the most beautiful, relaxing part was the open end of the patio. It opened onto a large rose garden, with probably 100 rose bushes in full bloom! It was beautiful on a warm southern California spring day. Oh yeah - the coffee was good and the hot fudge brownie with ice cream was definitely worth the calories! In addition to great food, the service was excellent! There appeared to be only one waitress taking orders, but there were quite a few bus boys keeping drinks full, checking in on us, and generally taking care of things. And the prices weren't too bad for a nice California restaurant. The sandwiches were in the $10-$13 range. Our total bill including dessert, coffee and drinks for 3 was only $53.

I love dinner at Suzanne's. Try fresh summertime soups or smoked chicken salad. Aside from a couple of typical Mothers' Day mixups and empty champagne flutes, 2010 brunch was scrumptious, from the assortment of fresh bread to the amazing sour cherry crisp a la mode.

Great service, yummy food, beautiful ambience. We had a wonderful time. The only reason I wouldn't give it 5 stars is because although the food was delish it wasn't the best I've ever eaten. Still definitely will go back.

Suzanne's is a pleasant place to dine, especially in the garden out back. The staff was nice and helpful. We ordered a couple of salads to start, and both were good - a beet and fennel thing with feta, and a Belgian endive one with pear and Bleu cheese. The problem was the main courses. The trout was dry and full of bones. The seared ahi was rubbery and hard to eat. Both were atop very plain white rice that was also dry. One had a plain side of sauteed spinach We had a fantastic bottle of Bonny Doon white, saving the evening. Berry apricot tart a la mode was also quite good. So the bottom line: nice place but really needs some quality control on the fish entrees.

I had a definite intention when I went to Suzanne's in Ojai. A relaxed, cozy, inviting restaurant in the beautiful, majestic Ojai valley. I had recently been in the hospital twice, suffering and in pain with a horrible, frightening illness. All of my Thanksgiving plans were thwarted. My day of Thanksgiving was spent crying, popping several anti-biotcs , Ibuprofen and trying to stave off scary thoughts of death and doom. My dear friend Paul from the Bay area, offered to come stay with me through the storm. After several days and a lot of several types of anti-biotics finally I was on the mend and I started to feel better. I decided that I needed some good food, a reason to dress up and a celebration. Just for the sake of celebrating. I was alive and on the mend. I give thanks for that! Suzanne's is the place for celebration in quiet, classy way. It just feels special when you walk in the door. It's so relaxed , beautiful, warm and genuinely friendly. We started with some appetizers. Roasted beets with fennel and feta cheese. Tomato puree soup with herbs and no dairy. Arugula salad with some sexy cheese and yummy goodies in it. The food is so fresh there, and to my knowledge it is home grown and if not then all from the local farmers market. It tastes like it was recently picked from the Earth. Fresh and full of vibrant nutrients. We were ready for dinner. It was short ribs over penne pasta. To die for! The flavor was exquisite. Bursting with roasted tomato, herbs and juices from the ribs. Heaven. But the best was yet to come. For dessert we ordered the warm chocolate tart with white coffee sauce and home made vanilla ice cream. I exchanged the chocolate ice cream for vanilla until a voice behind me said "you should have the chocolate too". Who was this person? It was Suzanne herself! How could I refuse. Suzanne and I chatted about her restaurant. You could see how the tone there was set by her. A relaxed, open, friendly women who knows good food! I like a women that insists that I try the chocolate ice cream too! The warm tart arrived and the smell immediately made me happy and calm. It was luscious and rich and warm and friendly and inviting. It was murmuring....".love me", adore me, devour me". I took my first bite of the tart with the coffee sauce and a little vanilla ice cream and my days of suffering were forgotten. I was in ecstasy. Every bite was a sensual, erotic experience. Every bite was love remembered, beauty, warmth, happiness and joy. This was a spiritual experience. My friend was on the same cloud as I was. Paul and I just looked at each other. I felt as if I were being made love to. It was good. It was GOOD! We finished the dessert and just sat there in awe. Still high from the experience. I knew that this experience would stay with me for a long time and the memory of it would make me smile in times of pain. The next morning I didn't need to take any Ibuprofen for pain! Having this uplifting experience truly healed me. I now know the remedy for all ills. The warm chocolate tart with white coffee sauce and vanilla ice cream and chocolate too is the cure all! I'll be back and back and back again.

This is a magical, endlessly romantic place with extraordinary food and a great setting -- especially if you get a table next to the garden. Suzanne just has terrific taste in everything from decor to landscaping to the nuts and bolts of what she puts on the table. Not quite sure how to account for the abundance of not-quite-perfect reviews here. Perhaps there's an art to ordering. Unabashed hits include: the duck liver pate (insane), anything with black cod/butterfish, the sand dabs, and the desserts (to die for -- just had the lemon berry tart, wow). Love the she does vegetables -- almost raw, for real crunch, but full of flavor and perfectly matched to the dishes, which is tough to pull off. Another thought: I've always gone on quieter nights, and the service has an attentive, unhurried feel that might not fare quite so well on busy weekends. Just a guess.

Finally hit this place up the other night after a year's plus of driving by and wondering about a woman named Suzanne and the sort of cuisine she may, or may not, cook. The mood of the restaurant was strangely soothing, and sort of a mish-mosh of French country and Californian decor. The patio, where we sat, was wonderfully romantic, but not so overbearingly magical that you would feel terrible for having a fight with your significant other. Or family member. Anyway, I ordered the Chimichurri Rib Eye. I have a serious penchant for Rib Eye, and this was an exquisite cut of meat, and the Chimichurri was perfectly blended. I would definitely go as far to say the dish made me feel like an Argentine President's wife. Yumma.

Yikes, overrated. This restaurant was recommended by a family member so we tried it for Sunday brunch. Nice ambiance, but the service was terrible. Our waitress was cold bordering on rude and seemed far more interested in the big party across the room then she was in us. Then she "lost" our order after 45 minutes and we had to put in a new order and start over. Finally after an hour and 20 minutes we got our food. Mediocre. Small portions, decent but not fantastic flavors. Overall they didn't seem to care about the food or our experience. Try somewhere else, this place is WAY overrated.

We LOVED our dinner at Suzanne's. The food and service were absolutely tops. I especially appreciated their info sheet telling whether each entree was gluten free or not.

My girlfriend and I had a lovely dining experience here on our last night in Ojai. We dined inside since the outside patio was already full at 7pm. Our server was lovely and our food was quite deelish. We started with the heirloom tomatoo salad with blue cheese and another salad with asparagus and fig. Entrees were the chimichurri rib eye (ordered rare and came rare) and the tandoori spiced lamb tenderloin. Both very yummy. Great martinis to start and 2 glasses of Malbec with our entrees. Dessert was heavenly. Peanut butter chocolate torte and sour cherry crisp with vanilla ice cream. We had a wonderful dining experience! Oh yeah and the freshly baked bread was terrific! Come hungry! You will not be disappointed!

This place was just fine. We sat overlooking the patio. Everyone was attentive. It was decent enough food. Pretty expensive, but seems like it's the only real game in town. The food was mostly good. We had squash blossom appetizers that were overwhelmed with cheese and sauce. The pancetta on the salad was cold and all in one little clump, instead of cooked and spread throughout. A minor thing, but it was pricey, so might as well speak up. I had chicken piccata which was fine, but nothing spectacular. My friend had shrimp in red sauce over pasta, which was spectacular and my third friend had butterfish with a green caviar on top, which she said was delicious. For dessert, they had a chocolate peanut butter cake, which was okay. If you come to Ojai and want something really nice, this is about it, other than the Ranch House, which was literally down the street from where we stayed. We'll try that next time! But Suzanne's is just fine - and honestly, very California, so a good place to bring tourist visitors.

We have been coming here for special occasions for many years. Great food, friendly (yet not familiar) service, excellent outside patio and inside fireplace. Many staff members have been here for years, and not because they couldn't get jobs elsewhere. Wonderful entrees, especially the fowl. Save room for the handmade desserts.

Beautiful! A little pricey, but food is great, and spot is perfect for a special occasion. Be sure to make a reservation as they do get booked up, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

We had a girl's night in Ojai. Splurged on dinner here. It was okay...but definitely not worth the price. By far the best thing is walking up to the door, very cute with all the little white lights and foliage. The dining room was all mauve-y and wood, like it was designed in 1987. In good repair though. The beet salad was tasteless, but they courteously gave us the fig bacon salad which was good, and the best thing we had (the bread was good too). I had fusilli with meatballs, it was fine, but it was $12 fine not $20 fine. My friend had the ahi tuna which was $25 okay but not $38 okay. Small and fine. Nothing special at all. We had the sour cherry crisp, which again was, you guessed it, fine (too sweet for me tho and I love sugar). Our bill with a total of 3 glasses of wine, two entrees, one salad and one dessert was $150. It would have been okay at $80. I wouldn't return, way too overpriced. We did like the Hip Vegan Cafe though, that was great value.

Came to Ojai to spend birthday weekend and decided to enjoy final nght at Suzanne's based on trusted friend's recommendation. After pre-dinner cocktails at Ojai Valley Inn, we were not disappointed: from beautiful oysters with champagne, to yummy salad with blue cheese stuffed figs, excellent pasta with homemade meatballs and loads of freshly ground parmesan to perfectly grilled lamb. We enjoyed every bite. Flouless chocolate cake with sour cherries is really the only way to end a meal. Just lovely! Glad we took the three hous hike to make space for it all. Go here, it's delightful...

I had dinner at Suzanne's on 11/11/11. Absolutely wonderful! Great strong cocktails. I had a perfectly cooked medium rare NY steak with mashed potatoes and grilled vegetables. For dessert, I had an amazing chocolate peanut butter torte that was, miraculously, gluten-free, which meant I could actually eat it. Great meal. I'd go back any time.

I guess is just not for us. We don't like to pick a 100 dollars bill and not fill satisfied with our meal. It was OK, don't get me wrong, but it was not exceptional and in the quality-value balance it was simply pricey. We prefer to go out more often and spend the same money on 3 or 4 less expensive places. My fish was cold, the flavor described was not there and we just didn't feel like going back since the year we had been there.

The employees have too much attitude for a place just serving salads and sandwiches at lunch. Since there is so little difference in the menu from any other place serving lunch in town, you might as well go someplace friendlier where the just as good.

Seriously delicious... The bread basket alone is a reason to dine at Suzanne's. 4 kinds of bread, all with the chewy quality that I like. ..a dark wheat olive bread, a roll topped with sesame and poppy seeds, a mild sour dough roll and a baguette all served with the sweetest butter and a cruet of very fruity olive oil. I started with an eggplant tart. The vegetables were vibrant with flavor and the pastry crust had just the right amount of richness. My dining companion had an heirloom tomato salad with goat cheese and drizzled with a perfect vinaigrette which he graciously let me sample. The last time I tasted tomatoes like this was at my grandmother's"s house after she picked a few from her garden. My ravioli was less successful. I just did not care for the sauce . The chard filling was very good. We shared a plate of lightly seared ahi tuna with "Asian" chimichurri surrounded by vegetables that must have been picked that day. Wonderful. We shared a desert of coconut ice cream, made in house, on grilled pineapple that had been caramelized. Mascarpone custard was drizzled around the plate. We were speechless. This is the best dessert we've had in a long time. Suzanne's is a destination restaurant. With my glass of chardonnay the entire bill came to $90.00. Astounding given the quality of the food and the size of the portions. Service is flawless and should be the standard for service everywhere. It's that good.

The second time I ate at Suzanne's was my rehearsal dinner for my wedding and that was a 5 star night. Our food and set up was incredible. We had amazing wine and food with a great ambiance. They were so easy to work with and the patio made the best setting to welcome all our guests. We had eaten there for lunch when choosing where to entertain our guests in Ojai, Suzanne's won hands down for the atmosphere and great menu.

My mom and I came here while staying at the Ojai Resort and Spa as we had received several recommendations for Suzannes. The food was ok, it was definitely nothing special. But what really put us over the edge was watching a rat run across the fireplace and into the kitchen. My mom and I immediately left and while leaving we told the manager what we saw and her response was "Oh ya thats just a tree rat" UM thats disgusting!!Go elsewhere!

We arrived at Suzanne's for lunch one rainy day, just as it started to downpour. Luckily, Suzanne's has a covered back patio area with heatlamps, where we proceeded to have a sumptuous and drawn out lunch. I think we were there for about two hours total! We had amazing sandwiches and salads, as well as a wonderful bottle of wine from Flowers. It was just wonderful to be sitting outside, but shielded from the rain - having a nice meal and sharing great conversation with friends. We started with the duck liver pate and cocktails. I then ordered the Roast Beef Sandwich With Shaved Onions, Gruyere Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato And Wasabi Mustard On French Baguette, which was quite good. I had been eyeing Uncle Angelo's Favorite Meatball Sandwich on the menu, made with Homemade Meatballs, Asiago Cheese And Marinara Sauce and served on a French Baguette. But my friend got to that one first - and of course it too was delicious! It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this place for lunch or dinner.

Fantastic. The food, wine & drink selection is first rate. There are two tables near the fire place. If it's a chilly night, ask for one of them. We were there on a rainy night. They have a plastic drop sheet, which fully insulated the patio section, but being near the fireplace was special. The service staff was attentive but not pushy. We were at the Ranch House last night; neither is inexpensive, but Suzanne's is much better & no more expensive. If you eat in no other place in Ojai, eat here.

Outstanding in every way. The wait staff was courteous, the food was delicious, the surroundings beautiful. I mentioned that I had learned about Suzanne's Cuisine from Yelp and I got to choose from the "grab bag" jar. We won a $10 discount on the bill! We will definitely go there again.

Had this not been billed as the place to go when looking for an upscale dinner in Ojai I may not have been so disappointed...Let's start with the positives...our waitress may have been the nicest and friendliest I have ever had....she was really lovely. Also, the staff were very attentive which was nice, they remembered it was our anniversary even thought I barely mentioned it when I made the reservation over a week in advance...as for the rest...well...the patio was billed as the romantic place to sit...it was ok I wouldn't call it anything special. I ordered the crab corn cake as an app. It was pretty mushy and fishy tasting and served in a lemon sauce. There was so much sauce it was really like a soup...my husband ordered the special salad, arugula with pancetta and figs...it tasted good but the presentation was pathetic. It was thrown together with a smattering of bacos, yes bacon bits all over the top...so weird...then for the main...I got butterfish which was good..came with some veggies, nothing special but fine, and then the rice cake...call it a mush cake f you will...served half cold half hot. They replaced it when we complained and it was still a cake of mushy mush...the chef came out and apologized saying that she had tasted it and in fact it was wrong. They comped the desserts...nice...I got the creme brulee...my all time favorite...it was mediocre at best..thin sugar top, too thin in parts and the custard had such a mild vanilla taste it was easy to miss...I really wanted to love this place but it was a looser and I would not return even for the really nice waitress...

Had a wonderful lunch on valentine's day. We showed up without reservations, but they were able to fit us in. The ambiance is very nice and upscale. The lunch menu is reasonably priced. The menu is mostly sandwiches and salads. The salads are very interesting. My wife had a duck salad, which she enjoyed very much. I had a steak sandwich which was delicious. The roll was very fresh, and it had a great sauce and I think some sauerkraut. The ingredients were all of the highest quality. The service was great, even on Valentines day (which is always a challenge in my experience). We'll definitely return for dinner!

This is our favorite restaurant! They have great food, great service and a beautiful restaurant (especially the patio). You will often see Suzanne too, and she is so nice and down to earth. We have been here multiple times and love it every time. My favorite is the duck (which they only have in the fall) and the fusilli pasta with artichoke hearts. It's delicious. The bread is always hot and they give you a few different kinds to chose from. The waiters are great, especially Bruce, he is the best. Donna is usually at the front and she is the sweetest woman on the earth. Last time when I went into the restroom there was a huge bouquet of flowers that smelled so wonderful. Everything is very clean. We like to take a walk through the little garden in the back when waiting for our food.

What is the allure of this place? I was served a cold hot dog on a french baguette with the remains of my partner's tomato sauce from a meatball sandwich. So this is what we call bistro food? I would not recommend at all.

Delicious upscale restaurant, with excellent ambiance spoiled only by the fact that they sell T-shirts. Who would buy one? My uncle was delighted to find some obscure fish (John Dory?) on the menu. They offer a lot of seafood.

Wow! A true five star restaurant. It was my wife's birthday last night and we decided to venture to Ojai for the day. This town is great! It was "Ojai Day" and we had a really nice time walking through the heart of town seeing all that Ojai had to offer. We then decided to join Suzanne's Cuisine for dinner. Apparently everyone else in town had the same thought we walked in without a reservation and the place was packed. They had no open tables available and I had wished we made a reservation for the garden room. Tim, the manager/ host/ bartender/ wine steward let us sit at the bar area, where we were set up for dinner. My wife and I actually really enjoy sitting at the bar of busy restaurants. This is where you can really get a feal for the restaurant and see how the staff works behind the scenes. We had a wonderful time. We enjoyed cocktails and interacting with all the staff. They were extremely busy, yet extremely attentive, which I really appreciated. Suzanne's menu is amazing! Something for everyone, and their wine list is page after page of hidden jewels. We were amazed to see that they had the 2001 Leonetti Cellar Merlot, a wine I can not seem to find anywhere. It was my wife's birthday after all, so we bought the bottle and Tim decanted it for us. I enjoyed the Jumbo scallops over rice noodles, which were prepared thai style. My wife said that here mussels were the best she ever had. They were prepared provencal style and the broth was amazing. We were even given a small complimentary dessert for her birthday, which was really the icing on the cake to a perfect dinner. Must give credit where credit is due. Highly recommended! We will be back soon! decor=10/10 food=10/10 wine list=10/10 service=11/10

I chose Suzanne's after reading all of the positive reviews on Yelp. The food was pretty good. I got a filet which had blue cheese, grilled onions and sauteed mushrooms on top. It was cooked perfectly (which is difficult to do as filets are quite thick). My mom got the seafood sampler and her scallops were too salty, the salmon had a bitter taste, and the mahi mahi was decent. I thought overall the food was ok. I was expecting more....

Lovely place--I'd imagine it would be great for date night. The patio is a charming place to sit. Older crowd. Would come back--love the seasonal ingredients! Ordered the fettucini in goat/truffle cream sauce with portobello mushrooms, asparagus and sun dried tomatoes... deliciously decadent! Then had some sort of pineapple coconut ice cream concoction that was tangy and tropical for a refreshing finish.
