I've been going here since I was a lil one. Food is always smackin', can't wait to slide through when I get back to the Bay.

The Mexican food here is absolutely disgusting and the place is nasty. Ordered a hard shell taco, steak enchiladas and fried snapper. The snapper was made with old fish. It smelled pretty bad and tasted not so great. After eating a piece, I fed it to the dogs. Both The taco and the enchiladas were smothered in so much sauce and sour cream and pickled jalapeños it was just like a big nasty mix of unhealthy and bland sauces with no flavor. It tasted like Mexican food you might get in Germany or Italy not California. I would compare it to eating bad quality and old meat covered in a thick sauce with the flavor and consistency of bullion. I wanted Mexican food real bad and thought I would try a new place instead of my usual spots. What a mistake. I recommend you steer clear of this spot.

Dammmm those cheese steak fries on hittt!!! Just watching the homie make it, right when you think it's over he just keeps topping it off, I didn't even think the box could close! The portions here are ridiculous. The sour cream is quality, not like other watered down ones, the cheese is so good. "orange cheese". They also use the nacho cheese sauce which I prefer without. Makes the Nachos or the fries to drenched for me.

Still the #1 place in the entire Bay Area for good fried fish , shrimp and oysters. The portions are always huge and the taste is always on point . I've tried all the other fish fry places in Oakland and the surrounding cities but none really compare. Ppl may talk about JJ's or some other similar places but trust me they don't known good fried fish like this. The 4 star rating would be 5 if it was only for the food. But 1 star has to be taken off for the lack of security guards and the non stop hanging out in and outside of the restaurant. If you're not familiar with Oakland you'd probably be to scared to stop and order your food. If you're familiar than you'll likely hey your food to go and be on your way.

Called in an order and was told to come in in 10 minutes. I get there in 15 minutes and they hadn't even started our food. I ordered steak and shrimp nachos which was drenched in nacho cheese and the chips were soggy but taste overall was good. My bf ordered snapper and said it was ok.

Best burritos in the bay!!! Seafood is pretty good. Can't go wrong with chicken wings either.

This was the worst place to order sea food or food period. The red snapper didn't have no seasoning on it. It taste like it was throw into some cornmeal and deep fried. Las Palmas no longer serve salads only potato salad. This place use to do it all and serve clean food. Now since it's under new management, it's all about the dollar bill. You will get high cholesterol and low quality sea food with a high price. It's gone down hill! I'm pissed because I had a taste for some good Red Snapper and what I got was a bag of greasy cornmeal red snapper with unflavored tons of greasy fries. Save yourself some time and money. Go somewhere else where the people care about the preparation and quality of sea food. Oakland Public Health Department for food inspections definitely need to come here, I'm sure it would get shut down!

This place is great for fried fish and enormous burritos and tostadas. I can never finish my meal in one sitting, nor can any member of my family. Get to know the menu and call your order in. Trust me, it makes the whole experience better. Parking is not always easy, but do-able. Dont trip on the neighborhood, just be cool. I always hate when I read reviews where people talk about "how ghetto it is". Whatever, we like to call it diverse. If you cant handle it, stay out.

4/2/15 - My oyster meal was right on point today. I got a hot meal, even the French fries were hot. Not many customers and it was after 6 p.m. The few customers there were talking about how bad the parking is and they were happy to see that there weren't people loitering around.

I love this place! I just had a shrimp and steak nacho it was so big I couldn't eat it all. I love how they give you a lot more than what you expect.

I enjoy the food here. They have the best tasting fried seafood in my opinion. The price for the "fish and oyster & prawn" is reasonable. Location is in sketchy area - be cautious if you're going here. Will order in future if am really craving fried seafood.

I decided to crash at a friend's last minute and needed to grab dinner. I was oh so happy that Las Palmas was not only still open but was within walking distance of my friend's home. I bought a fish taco for my friend and a chicken super burrito. My friend enjoyed his meal. Me? Not so much. Even without getting "the works" my burrito was unpleasantly heavy due to its thin tortilla. Because of this the salsa would leak, making my meal soggy and such a hot ass mess that I barely finished half of it. I decided to save it for breakfast and was hopeful that a night in a fridge would somehow salvage my burrito. WAS I WRONG. Shortly after breakfast I started feeling nauseous. Fortunately, I had Pepto on deck and was able to turn my day around. I won't be returning.

Parking situation is not good and neighborhood is not good but I can't help but to keep going back for those tasty steak and shrimp burritos. Red snapper and prawns are great too.

This is some serious fish. I have never tasted fish like this before. I will always come back! I dont know what they do to it, but it's delish! We both ate EPIC dinners for $15 with enough left over that one of us will have lunch tomorrow. If I lived over here... I would need LAP BAND surgery! It's just good!!! Trust me on this one

I live across the street from las palmas and i call in orders all the time; up till this point i have been willing to accept their mediocre food and rude rude service but today was the last straw. I called in an order and the hispanic man on the phone rudely took my order and said it would take 10mins, i waited 15mins then went to pick up my order. When i arrived i found out my order was never placed obviously i was upset but would have still waited for my order had the little korean lady troll behined the bullet prof glass been even the slightest bit apologetic; it was the last straw i will never ever go back and i hope a health inspector closes them down # LasPalmassucks#gotojoshua'supthestreet

I loved the fish here. I had the red snapper, whiting & cat fish. It was fresh, well seasoned and not greasy. This is where I go when I want some fish. They have great prawn burritos as well. Only complaint was the whiting and catfish was the same price I asked if I could get 3 of each total of 6 pieces. I was told this could not be done. I could not understand why. It would have been an even split. Other than that love this place!

This place soooo over rated! I had the fried shrimp. All I know is that I was sick all afternoon. Never again will I eat there.

Solid super burrito, loaded with great ingredients but a tiny bit too juicy for my taste. This was one of the biggest supers I've had in a while.

i don't think i've ever been so displeased with a dining establishment. this place is horrible for a plethora of reasons: a) usually when a place off the beaten path has good yelp reviews, you're expecting a gold mine - this place is an exception. there's a reason why they have "NO REFUNDS" plastered all over the counter and restaurant...you're going to want a refund and they don't want to deal with it. b) they're all sorts of confused. is this a mexican place or a soul food joint? burritos should never be sold at a place that also serves french fries, coleslaw and fried chicken c) i was sick for 3 days after eating here. d) on top of all of the above, it's actually pricey for what you get. yeah, if you want to get a basic burrito it's inexpensive, but if you want any type of seafood...forget it. e) GROSS. 'nuff said. DO NOT go here.

By far "THE BEST FISH & CHIPS PLACE". I'm writing this review based on the Fish & chips. Don't expect anything fancy about this place. This place is not good for first dates.......you'll definitely get a bad review. =) Just a friendly advice, It's better to call your order ahead of time and take it to go. I have witnessed a crime committed during broad daylight. The large order portion of Red Snapper/Chips - Catfish/Chips feeds 4 people and it's about $23.00. Believe it when I say the portion is large and the fish are yummy. It cannot get better than this. We drive about 25 miles away when we have a craving for yumminest.

Super sketch! No wheat tortillas, no black beans. Soggy buritto and below average taste. I would not return. It's big, I will give them that. Bigger isn't always better. My wife got diarrhea from hers.

If your looking for some excellent fried fish of any kind, Las Palmas is the place for you. The regular size portion is good enough for 1, but can be shareable. Prices are pretty much standard. The Mexican food that they have is ok/can be hit or miss with the very large portions, but can be considered to much stuff for some. The Gumbo is actually very tasty as well, just ask for extra rice and filè. Surroundings - It's in the hood, but on the main drag. Atmosphere - It is below average cleanliness. Menu - Menu is pretty extensive and to the point Service - Service is pretty good, but call ahead when possible. Food - Almost everything here is great and pretty fresh. Overall - Good food and service. I'd return. Pretty good all around place

The STEAK AND SHRIMP burrito is AMAZINGGG! They give you lots of big juicy shrimp mhmm! The fish is good, a little bit corn-mealy to me but I still order it and eat it everytime. If you don't like your fish batter coming off and a big mess, maybe not for you. If you're going to order the fish though, phone ahead. There is usually long lines inside, they won't take phone ahead order for a burrito or taco you just have to order that when you get there. The cakes are HORRIBLE stay away!!

Oh, what can I say bad about this joint. Not much. Its an Oakland Icon of gourmet delights. Perhaps my favorite fast food, take out treat in Oaktown. Its basically a Chinese owned establishment that manages a Mexican staff that specializes in preparing both Mexican and Cajun food for a primarily African American Clientele. I love it. It doesn't get more Oakland than this anywhere in Oakland. If you're a tourist on vacation and you want a taste of real Oakland, this place should definitely be on your itinerary. The Cajun food menu includes seafood favorites at very reasonable prices considering the quality and quantity. The Mexican food menu however is probably the biggest draw. The enchilada plate is melt in your mouth delicious and of ample proportions. The burritos are enormous and delicious. My personal favorite is the Shrimp Super Burrito--the best of both Cajun and Mexican worlds. I treat myself with this one to go. I love to pour "Mae Ploy", sweet chili sauce over it when I eat it. ("Mae Ploy" sweet chili sauce is a mild condiment sold in a bottle available in any Asian food section of your nearest super market. It's the perfect condiment for this Cajun/Mexican treat.) It's heaven. Good luck finishing one of these Super Burritos at one sitting. Another of the biggest attractions of this place is the huge glass viewing window in front of the preparation counter. After you order you can watch the staff prepare your meal through the entire process. That keeps them honest and keeps you informed about every stage of construction and the source, quality and quantity of the ingredients used in the preparation of your food. You'll be amazed at how much fresh meat and shrimp goes into your dish. I would definitely not plan on eating here. The tables and seating is sparse and the atmosphere is more conducive to take out than eat in. Hit it and run. You'll agree this place is one of a kind and can't be beat. See you in line! Chow

The Mr. & I decided to swing by this place to pick up some deep fried RED SNAPPER, the other day. Initially, we were contemplating getting the "LARGE" portion to share but opted for the "REGULAR" for $10.75 and I'm sure as hell we did. When we opened up our brown paper bag of goodness, we were taken back by how HUGE the portions were. It came with numerous filets of red snapper on a bed of steak fries & 2 slices of wheat bread & it also came with a $hit ton of condiments in the bag (hot sauce, ketchup & tarter sauce). All in all the meal was "good". I've also tried their burritos in the past & let me tell you..."THEY'RE F*CKING HUGE!"

This is the spot when I am extremely hungry and just want to grab a big bite. I only been here a couple of times, but when I come I only order one thing. I order the beef and shrimp burrito. Yes I said it. Beef AND shrimp burrito. Half always tend to full me up. At least I have the other half for dinner. On the contrary, the area is a little shakey. Just try to come here on day time.

Not too bad. This hole in the wall in Oakland has the best shrimp and steak burritos/nachos. The fried prawns and fries are good too. Street parking only. I suggest you guys take this food to go. In and out! Also, they only take CASH ONLY now.

You know those days, when it's raining and you feel lazy to venture out for food? Or you just feel lazy? This is our go-to spot on those days. Just order, drive home, start a movie, and plop down on the sofa. Perfect. We always order the Shrimp & Steak burrito to share. Yes, it's large enough to feed two! They don't skimp on the ingredients. There are always PLENTY of shrimps in there. I was bored one time and counted about a dozen shrimps in our burrito. We don't eat here very often, but we sure enjoy every bite of it when we do.

You gotta love a take-out spot with a bullet-proof window to order food and pick up through. Being from the other side of the bay this was all new to me until working in the east bay, only in Oakland will you find this pleasant atmosphere. So make sure to speak loud through the window on what you want to order. It's a rough neighborhood, but even rough areas have good food. In my opinion the food lacks seasoning. However on the positive side portions are large. Fried fish is filling and burritos are the size of a newborn baby. I'm on the fence about this place, so maybe try it and decide for yourself.

Absolutely love the Burritos as well as the Red Snapper and Cat Fish here... I haven't been in a while due to me moving but I always go back, the food is bomb! I do feel that the cooks here should be wearing gloves when handling food.... sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

If you love huge amounts of mediocre food this is your spot. Twice as expensive as other places down the street, no chips, no real salsa, no real reason to come here.

This place has a nack for homestylegreedygutt soul food!! The burritos are HUGE!! This is more of an Americanized Mexican place, but the food taste like Big Momma used to make! Cheap too! The sea food is good, but not better than Sea Side Cafe, I'm just saying! lol! If you are in the mood for ghetto fab food, this is your spot! My fav...ground beef burrito w/ refried beans, cheese, salsa, lettuce and tomato..YUMMY

Great food and super large portions. The fried catfish and shrimp plate is my favorite! I'd recommend you call ahead and order your food so you can pick it up in a jiffy since the locations are usually in sketchy neighborhoods but as long as your street savy you'll be OK.

OMG so everybody and their mom was talking about how good the fish and the burritos was at this place, WHY DID I LISTEN.... One day I ordered the red snapper FILLET mind you, but instead it had bones in it, which can be dangerous to swallow, the fish was over cooked and under seasoned. I'm very open minded in trying new things and restaurants, but it seems like I always be disappointed in the restaurants I tried out. Lord please help me find a good restaurant in Oakland.

Great Burritos and Fried Fish. I never have to wait in a long line to get my food, I tell them what I want and they begin cooking it right after that. The Shrimp Burrito and the Shrimp and Steak Burrito are excellent. However they stopped taking burrito orders over the phone, which I wish they would add back to doing. Because it's inconvenient for me to stop order and wait since I driving all the way back to Vallejo.

Okay, so the place isn't in the best of locations, and some of the clientele can be a little (a lot) sketchy. The food is undeniably good. Sure, there were two people that came, as we waited for our orders, who swore at the lady behind the counter. Wasn't her fault. My suggestions: go earlier in the day, make your order, be prepared to wait a few minutes, and take it to go. Three of us ordered the steak and shrimp super burritos yesterday, and I can honestly say I've never had anything like that. It was so good, and they didn't skimp on the shrimp or the steak. Ours looked so good that others in line decided to order the same thing. Since I was flying back to LA last night, I had to make sure I didn't leave leftovers. I ate most of the filling, but it was just too much to handle in one sitting. You'll need to lay it out on a plate and eat it with utensils. We've had their fried fish before, as well as their gumbo. So good.

Some of the fattest burritos in town!!! They seafood and nachos are straight crack! Good healthy portions.

I LOVE this place! My aunt told me about this place one day when I was in search of some fried catfish, now judging by the name, when I went to look it up, I thought she had given me the wrong information, but NO! they DO in fact, serve fried catfish! I went there on a Wednesday evening - it's not in the best of Oakland area's but nobody is going to bother you. I walked in, there weren't too many people there at that point which was good! There is a menu on the wall that clearly list everything they offer including the price (which i really like) I proceed to order the Regular Fried Catfish (which comes with one side - usually french fries) and a side of potato salad. - I spent less than $12 bucks all together. I waited about 10 - 15 minutes and then my order was ready - (side note - don't lose your receipt number) Once I got my order, I left and went back to my car, the AROMA that filled my car was just what I was looking for, I knew right then that I would enjoy that meal. The portion size is HUGE, they gave me so many pieces! I even had enough for lunch the next day. (the steak fries were plentiful too, but I didn't really care for them) The catfish was seasoned and fried just right! So tasty! The potato salad was good also, it tasted at first like it had too much relish in it, but it wasn't nasty and I would order it again. I seen on the menu that they also serve gumbo, which is what I will try the next time i go!

Upon arriving and finding parking nearby, I told my mom to stay in the car and lock the doors while I went to get the food. The neighborhood is pretty sketchy, and I live in Oakland. I mean this is panhandlers loitering outside sketchy. Regardless, I'd go anywhere for good food. Unfortunately, this wasn't as great as expected. We ordered the steak and prawn burrito for $9.95. Although the portions were huge, the quality was not there. The steak was verry dry, and the burrito itself wasn't flavorful. Also, there was this pasty taste to the whole thing, as if they grounded up beans and mixed the ingredients in it. The texture was just funny. I'm a bit disappointed and will have to venture elsewhere for a great burrito in Oakland.

Be prepared! The burrito needs a child's seat to travel in your car in California. My fav---shrimp and fries---but it's enough to feed Big Momma and make her SLAP HER SELF, cuz she can't finish it all! Make sure you order your seafood fried medium and you will be in heaven---the LARGEST seafood and burrito or tacos/nachos portions in the UNIVERSE!!

I was a regular here years ago but due to excessive weight gain from the giant burritos I had to slow it down a bit!! My hot item was a steak and shrimp burrito, they are huge! Plenty of plump shrimp, plenty of steak, lots of yummy goodness. Today I decided to try the fried fish after reading sooo many "try the fish" reviews here on Yelp. Yes I was a tad bit disappointed, I ordered the regular size Sole meal with potato salad for $10.95. I called it in so I wouldn't have to wait. The fish smelled soo freakin' good on the way home. I opened up the container to a huge portion of Sole, definitely enough for two. I was way disappointed with the taste, it tasted like old oil. I could hardly bare the taste, even with tarter sauce and hot sauce covering it up. I guess I came on the wrong nite for fish, boo hoo. At least the potato salad was good. I'll just stick to my burritos here and save the fish for JJ's on international.

I was surprised when I saw an Asian guy when I was about to order my burrito. From the other reviews, I guess he is the owner cause I saw some Latinos working in the back later. This place only sells super burrito and seafood, like their name indicated. I was surprised there were no regular or baby burrito. I thought the price is kind of expensive, because the cheapest is the veggie super burrito for $6. The chicken is $7.95 and the others are more expensive. I ordered the veggie super burrito and I was disappointed. It didn't have much veggies in it besides what it says in the menu. It's everything except the meat. The guy didn't even ask me if I wanted black or pinto beans. I wanted black beans but they gave me pinto beans by default. I asked him to cut it in half, because it was big enough that I could eat it for 2 meals. I was disappointed that it didn't come up with chips or salsa. I didn't taste much salsa in the burrito either.

HUMONGOUS burritos here! My +1 and I stopped here before heading to the East Bay Odyssey Event at Chabot Space and Science Center. I've been craving a shrimp burrito for a while now, so I searched for it on the Yelp app right after we got off 580. Las Palmas was the first one on the list, so here we were. We walked in - whoa. There was glass from top to bottom in front of the entire counter with a metal-type vent that you talked through to place your order, and another hole to hand your money over to the cashier. Hmm...not feeling very safe...thank goodness I wasn't by myself! I looked over the menu on the board. They got one type of burrito - super. I usually don't care for sour cream (or guac) in my burritos, but my +1 and I were sharing and he loves that stuff, so I took one for the team. Along with burritos, they also have tacos, nachos, fried catfish and other fish, prawns and other seafood options that are probably fried. We also ordered a fish taco (red snapper I think) to get a taste of their seafood. So we waited...and waited...and waited. How long does it take to make a super burrito and fish taco? As we waited, I noticed people walking in and just picking up their orders. Darn it - I should have read the Yelp reviews more closely to know this place makes you wait longer than expected. When we felt that our order was next, we watched them prepare our burrito behind the glass window. I like how they spread the sour cream across the bottom of the tortilla instead of just putting a glob of it right in the middle. Next came the rice, beans, a handful of cheese, diced tomatoes and onions, salsa, jalapenos, large pieces of shrimp and cilantro. After a 20-minute or so wait, we got our orders and got the heck outta there (this is not a place you would want to sit and eat). We made our way up to Chabot Space and Science Center and actually ate it in the car. Much safer =) The final product was a short, fat, and heavy burrito wrapped loosely in foil. This is going to be messy. But the shrimp was well seasoned and good, and I enjoyed the cilantro and jalapenos addition! The fish taco was also wrapped in foil, and we had to eat that with the forks they provided. The taco was prepped almost the same way as the burrito, minus the rice and beans. Too much "extra" for me. I'm happy with just fish, cilantro, onions, and salsa. If I were in the area again (for some odd reason) I'd give their seafood options a try.

Me and the misses were in Oakland lookin for a quick spot to eat. We searched yelp for near by places and this spot came up. You would think super burritos, 5 to 10 mins to make. Not this place. It was 25 to 30 mins for a shrimp burrito and fish taco. It might have been shorter wait, but it felt hella long due to the ghettoness. You have little kids smoking blunts outside and workers laughing and playing behind a bullet proof window. They probably take their time cuz they know we can't do anything to them. Besides being scared for my life, this place is pretty cool. I like hole in the wall places. Well back to the food, the burritos are huge. They're like any burrito you get in the mission, but with some slight good difference. They put hella cheese, cilantro and jalapeños. I have to say it does make a difference. There wasn't a time I had seen that. The fish taco was average nothing spectacular. It was big, but I don't like eating my tacos with a spoon. Give me those 1 dollar taco trucks anytime. Suggestion for next time I go here - I think I should get the mixed burrito, carne asada and shrimp. Ooooh I'm drooling already. Also I want to try that seafood menu. If I didn't live so far, I would hit this place up every weekend. Good munchies spot you feel meeee.

okay, so today i'm craving fried catfish and i figure i'd go down to my old stomping grounds to one of my favorite spots. now, a few months back, i got a burrito here and it was meh. it could have been an off day because i remember their burritos being the bomb. but who knows? so, one star off for that burrito. today, the catfish was hot, well-seasoned, and plentiful-same as i remember it. damn, that's some good ass catfish. i can't fry catfish better than this. AND you get 6-7 big ass filets of fish, plus one side, bread, and condiments for $10.37 including tax. it's hella worf it. (yep, worf it.) so, i decided to eat inside the place to enjoy the people watching. hell, that's worth another $10-$20 by itself. i saw other reviews where people locked themselves in their cars and shit. it ain't even that serious. nobody is going to bother you when you go down here. go get you some fish and watch the hustlers get their hustle on. and plus, it's so much better than sitting at your boring ass job at your desk eating a microwave meal.

"Lets Call it what it is" This is a Top Notch almost better than Sex Ghetto Fish Fry / Mexican Burrito take out joint. (I know its a wierd combo). It reminds me of a typical (you buy we fry) But they fry it to perfection, Never Greasy, Always fresh, Flavorful and Portions large enough to feed at least two. The Burritos are probably the largest that you have ever seen, each one weighs in over 2lbs and full of flavorful goodness. Not your typical Tacobell Taco either. The Taco shell is filled almost to the TOP with Meat, now all your lettuce cheese and tomatoes must stand 3 inches above the shell. (Its a monster, and its good). I'm a DIE HARD RAIDERS FAN (that being said, I drive or fly up to the Bay for every home game) and I have to stop at Las Palmas for at least one meal every trip. (hell just for the hell of it, I bring my suburbian friends, they all trip off the neighborhood, but they always come back for the food) You cant go wrong with a Snapper and Prawn combo........ and a some oysters (for staminia) Hell next trip give me the Super Burrito (Steak and Prawns). Dont be Scared "The Hood's Where It's Good" If Your in the Bay Area you "Have to try this place"

Met up with the family this past weekend for lunch. They picked up from Las Palmas. (why did that name sound sooo familiar?!). I just now learned that the name stood out because they have a location in the city that I've been to before....actually many times before. What a treat to know they have this location on my side of the bay. There's nothing like being able to curb your burrito fried seafood cravings in one stop. Let alone it being well worth your buck, but most of all delicious. First off the burritos literally weigh about 5-7 lbs. Depends on how heavy handed the maker is at that moment. The fried seafood may seem a bit pricey but the quality is there. An order of a few pieces may not seem like a lot but it does sure fill you up, and they don't mess around with that thick fry batter here. I also recommend calling in your order as it does seem to get a little backed up. And make sure you vent your to go orders in the paper bag to avoid the fried seafood sweating and getting soggy.

I consider my fried fish some of the best in the Bay Area, and Las Palmas makes me wanna slap my momma (shh - don't tell anyone but their fish is *almost* better than mine)! Don't believe me - drive by and check the line - I'm sure it's out of the door. The seasonings and batter on the fish is just right. For the oyster enthusiasts, come here. Each seafood order comes with bread, steak cut fries, and enough condiments (ketchup/hot sauce/tartar sauce) so you don't have to ask for extra. Ok, you have a taste for fish AND tacos/burritos? Las Palmas has you covered. The burritos weigh as much as a newborn child and could easily feed 2-3 people. The drinks are a bit inflated on price, but Judy's liquor store is right across the street (and there is a parking lot too) so if you can't find street parking then park at Judy's lot (just make sure to get your beverage from her first). Did I mention they have gumbo and desserts? The price is extremely cheap (and reasonable).

This place probably has the best fried (cornmeal battered) fried catfish in town. When I lived in Oakland I would go here at least once a week just to kill my catfish craving. I've never ordered anything else, but I heard the burritos and prawns are good as well. It's extremely small inside, so most people order to go.

The place looks a little sketch, but man those prawns are ON POINT!

I heard such good things...I was so let down. I was in no way expecting organic ingredients or anything, but what I got was just gross. Fake cheese on the food (looks like velveeta) and chicken that looks like beef is quite unappealing. And, for these prices, I would at least expect something of a little quality! No thanks, I'll be at El Grullo.

Las Palmas is the place to go if you want to die early from heart failure and obesity. This place has delicious food at portions that could feed you and your momma. Their seafood and super burritos are the most popular items. Basically all the seafood is deepfried with choices of prawns, oysters (mmm thier deep-fried oysters are so good with tartar sauce) and a choice of fish from sole, catfish, etc. Everything is coated with cornmeal then deep-fried with a crispy texture and soft interior as the finished product. The super burritos are huge, just watching them pile meat after meat on a soft tortilla will make you wonder how this place makes a profit. What they do differently with their burritos as opposed to other traditional taquerias is that they add melted cheese, the velveeta kind. Usually this is a gringo concept, the only other place I've seen this done is at Taco Bell. Now the location will definitely deter many people from coming here. It is in the hood and sometimes the patrons can get unruly, probably why you have to place orders through bullet-proof glass. I usually bring my dog with me just in case anyone wants to get stupid. Just as long as you be cool and mind ya bizness then everyting should be fine. The wait can take a while, average preparation time for seafood orders usually takes 15 minutes, burritos a little less. But its most definitely worth the wait, especially if you are a fish & chips fan. So quit being scared and go pay them a visit..

I was previously working at the Frank H Ogawa building near BART Station. Everyday I used to go to this Super Burrito for their Veg Burrito with its its green soup. Its one of the BEST burrito that I can never forget. I am a Vegan. Whenever I go around Oakland, I will stop there and eat there and go, I can never ever forget its taste. Its unfortunate to not to find their shops in the South Bay.

Next to Everett and Jones - gotta give it 4 stars because of the location. It's in my hood so I want it to succeed. The short: Food is okay; portions are huge; hood is safe enough though be ready to deal with panhandlers, some purple, and some guys hanging on the block. the long: chix burrito is not that great, leave it alone. Chix enchilada is great. Snapper is good - get the regular for 9.75, it can feed 2-3 persons easy. All seafood is great. The best part about Las Palmas is that it's next to Everett and Jones and I make my way there weekly, every Sat night for an order of ribs, chix, and a seafood order from Las Palmas. Get a 22 from the liquor store in between and you're good to go. The Town to the fullest - much love.

I can not believe this, only 3 reviews on this place.... As packed as this place be,, unnn ugghhh!!!! Las Palmas is the best place to go to is you want some bomb seafood... I know some hole in the walls...... and this is one on the corner.... Yeah parking is bad, neighborhood is a little intimidating, but I'm from the town, I know how to make it do what it do and put my mean mug don't F with me face on...... The fish is AWESOME I get the Sole, red snapper, prawns.... It is so much flavor in this deep fried fish. They not cheap at all with the portions and for under $10, two people can rip open that bag and pour that catchup and hot sauce over the fish and fries and sit up at the park with a soda and have a picnic in the park ghetto style.... you might need some wetwipes afterwards but heck it is awesome. The burritos and tacos are alright if you want enough to last you all week long, but I go for the fish and prawns... the cole slaw is not all that, they have steak fries too....... Don't forget you in Da town and we gotta make it do what it do ,and that includes business people too, so don't mind that you have to order through a bullet proof glass and speaker box, or you have to get your food through a iron screen door... LMAO !~~~~ I'm serius don't even trip about all that, its for our safety! cause if the crooks already know they won't show, but if they see they can come in and rob the place you can best believe you might pop lock and drop it on the floor real quick if they did know they could rob that place..... might take a minute to find parking and you might get caught choosing between then and BBQ.... but nothing beats but a try!

This right here, I mean, this fish spot right here...is the ISH!!!! OK, they get a star for being located right next door to my favorite bbq spot E&J, which makes picking up the multiple orders that I usually have super easy. Then, they have HUGE portions - nothing like a ginormous ghetto burrito (aka the ground beef burrito) to have leftovers for not one, but TWO DAYS...and the fish?! BOMB...huge portions (tell them that you want all fish, then order your side separately...much better deal!!) for great prices compared to other spots in the BAY...LOVE IT!!! Call your order in advance, cuz the line/wait time tends to be off the chain ALL OF THE TIME.

Okay so my co-worker and I wanted to get some fish but we are in between paydays so we decided on getting a chicken taco for her and for me a super burrito (ground beef). I have eaten here previously and had their fillet of sole. I can only say that the burrito would have been so much better if it was not so greasy and if the meat was seasoned better. It was monstrous also, I ate half for lunch and took the other half home. My co-woker said her taco was good, but we both decided to stick to their tasty fish. The portions at this restaurant are humongous. I always get the regular order of fillet and prawns and my co-worker gets the large. She has enough food to feed her for 3 days. The coleslaw was not to my liking but overall they are okay.

Ghetto to say the least.....but oooo sooo good. I get the Prawns, fish and fries every time. They are perfectly coated in a flour/corn meal seasoning and not greasy at all.May I suggest you work on your ghetto tolerance before you venture in here cause that's how they roll. You can also get a bootleg dvd on the way out. Holla'

If you want a large burrito or some really good fried fish/prawns, head here. Prices are sure worth the flavors you receive! Be sure to call ahead on your 'seafood' order so it cuts down on wait time!

Go in here with 20$ come out with a meal for three that's all I'm saying ...Eat it all that day because it tastes like crap the next day... I get the prawns, fish(cat), oysters yum yum good.... I really like this place..It is a Ghetto whole in the wall..UM people that's why you order to go ...lol but go try it I think you'll enjoy it very much... The portion of food is defiantly the size its supposed to be..So don't I mean don't get discouraged by the price because it comes with alot of everything!!

I swear, this is the best bullet proof mexican/seafood spot I've ever been to. And where else do you get to see ghost riders in the middle of the day while you're waiting for your nachos? So, they don't accept credit cards, only debit cards. I had to go home and get cash one time. The burritos are humongous, but I don't go here for their burritos. Get the nachos with ground beef or the fries. Get the fried fish - catfish or sole. And this is totally a take out place, just wait under the surveillance cameras, watch some tv and pig out when you get home.

Their burritos are cheap, huge, and wrapped super tight. You can literally stand it on its side and it won't fall apart. I've never finished an entire burrito in one sitting.

They could work on the hygiene of the place a little, but overall, the food is BOMB. try the shrimp burrito. I fell in love.

I happened to be near this place to see a friend after work today. I remember this place used to make really good burritos that were size of a small pillow about 6 years ago. To my surprise now they added deep fried seafood to the menu. My friend was also in the mood for some fried fish. We ordered the "Fish, Prawns & Oysters" Combination. For the fish, I wanted to try Sole since I know Catfish has that mud taste which I don't like. I couldn't believe how much fried Sole, prawns and oysters plus french fries we got for around $20. (next time, I want to try the perch.) Seafood was coated with ground corn and deep fried. They were so good dipped in hot sauce. We both couldn't stop eating even after our stomach was bulging out like couple of bull frogs. My friend was wondering if this place mix crack with the ground corn since we couldn't stop eating. I started cracking up when he said that. In the end, we couldn't finish the food. It was just too much. We didn't even touch the fries!! Well.... maybe a few. I wanted to feed the rest to a skinny homeless dog near by but my friend said fried stuff is like poison to dogs and he wanted to take the rest home. Really good tasting fried seafood, tangy hot sauce, huge and I do mean huge portion. Deep fried food isn't very good for you but what the heck... you only live once right? I think it would be okay if you do it every once in a blue moon. People say this place is ghetto... I say this place is Ghettolicious! :)~

Super big ass burritos for an affordable price, if you're a student with bills, bills, bills, then this is the perfect place. You get more than enough to fill you up. ANNNND the food is finger lickin' good! I usually get the ground beef burrito with the works n extra sour cream, Oh Yea. And if you happen to change your mind last minute on what to eat, they're right next to Everett n Jones!!!

I heard good things here on YELP about this place, so I decided to try. It's a take-out joint in a sketchy area, but i'm a white boy who has lived all over Oakland all my life, so i can deal. I wanted to satisfy my fried catfish crave, so I ordered a large with fries. Took it home, found plenty of food for the money. Ate a couple of pieces, so far so good. Bit into the third piece, I had to spit it out. That piece of catfish was totally rotten. The smell, taste, and color was absolutely rotten meat that should have been thrown out by Las Palmas. This killed the whole meal for me. I dont care if your a four star restaurant, or a street, take-out joint. Rotten meat is just plain unacceptable. I will never eat at Las Palmas again, nor will I reccomend it.

This place is ghetttooooe! But if you're in the mood for some super huge shrimp burritos or fried snapper and fries, then check this place out. The burritos are your tasty classic "taco truck" burrito with sauteed shrimp. The fried fish is pretty yummy too. Don't make this a regular stop though. Not the healthiest food. They offer regular and large size portions, but the regular portions are huge! It's basically a hole in the wall, not a place to sit and eat. If you have spare time, just place your order and people watch while you wait, otherwise I suggest calling ahead and picking up your order.

This place is off the hook! Not that you got the Asians and the Latinos hooking up fried seafood just like some black folks! Whattttt!!! I love this place! You get an overload of food for your buck. The funny part about it, is the name. The burritos SUCK but the fried prawns and fish are so good! They need to change it to Wong and Juan's Fried Fish and Prawns-hahaha!!!

shrimp and steak burrito, its huge, its good enough to have me coming back for more. The wait is a little long, maybe because the five orders in front of me also ordered shrimp and steak burrito so they had to make alot, but all in all that burrito never disappoints.

Great fried shrimp and fish. If it wasn't next door to E&J barbecue, it would be continuously packed. Great portions, great prices.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
