Love this place!!!! That's all!!

For some reason it's great at Eat Real Festival. Thought it was just OK at the restaurant.
(3)Julien B.
We were 6 friends going there and each one took a different Mac and Cheese and shared with the others. The Mac and Cheese were SO good! The owners are very nice and recommended us to add bread crumbs with our Mac and Cheese, which was fabulous.
(5)Amanda B.
Best mac and cheese! My favorite is the Gilroy.
(5)Camille K.
I really, really wanted to love this place. The service was lovely and the setting was very hip. I ordered the Macximus (Greek-style) because I love feta. It was way too salty. My server was so nice; he saw me not eating it and came over to check on me and immediately took it back. I figured it was just a fluke, or the fact that it was feta, so I ordered the Vermont White Cheddar (thinking it would be just like mom's) and it was way too salty, too. I was bummed. Clearly, lots of people had a different experience, but I am over it.
(2)Chris I.
Wow! It's amazing. The spicy mac is soooooo good, you can add in whatever crazy stuff you want like BACON woohoo, and the beer selection is perfection!
(5)caneisha h.
Woulda been 5 stars but the hostess wouldn't let us just the two of us sit in a booth and I didn't care for the desserts. We had peanut butter pie and banana creme pie. Too small for the price. But the Mac and cheese was bomb. I had Vermont and roasted asparagus and he had the classic. yummy! Oh ya the homemade root beer was gross too bad. I'm all about fresh root beer and prefer the one at BJs. All in all a great lunch.

i'll try to get to the point: gilroy mac: added artichoke hearts & breaded exchange student: macximus is amazing: nuff said mexican mac: chorizooo trailer mac: not too memorable beyond the name, surprsiingly tuna mac-smelly but delicious mac the goat-surprisingly not as smelly as expected--could use some more bite..add stuff! spicy mac-not for the weak at heart grasshopper pie: refreshing and cute! alas, a bit small--same goes for the banana cream pie--but very delicious (lotsa caramel) oreo: meh.. professor: limeade & blonde: i will probably pass next time, but that's probably because i am not a huge fan of lime... arnold palmers: when are arnold palmers not good? mason jars: righteous

A restaurant that sells only different types of mac & cheese as the main course, what could go wrong with that? Nothing! The garlic mac is aaamaazinggg. Big portions all under ten bucks, fast service and the staff is super friendly.

Homeroom has been highly spoken of by all of my friends so I had to try it for myself. My first time was a success and I couldn't ask for more. The whole vibe of the restaurant is so bubbly. The wait was a bit long because today was very busy for some reason, but it was well worth it. The whole environment is super cute and cozy. -- But since it's a pretty well-known place, it appears to be a little small. I love the to-go boxes as well; they're so cool.
(4)Anne P.
Homeroom is the ultimate in comfort food. My favorites are the Ivy Leaguer: Truffle Mac and the Roasted Brussels Sprouts. Both are simply to die for. If you don't want to wait around for a table, definitely consider their Homeroom to Go and Fly-Thru service. It's an absolute breeze to place your order online and they will deliver your meal right to your car when you come to pick it up. We've done this on several occasions when we wanted a quick and delicious meal with little to no hassle. I really can't state how great this service is.
(4)Erica M.
Amazing food, but if you can't handle the hipster ambiance and waitstaff maybe order take out.
(4)Cherry M.
Best mac and cheese I have ever had. I liked the straight up mac and cheese with breadcrumb topping. I also had a few other types and all of them were amazing. The coupe de grace was their homemade oreo, it was so good I ate two while I was there and got two more to go. YUMMMMY, GO!
(5)Paula H.
The food is delicious and that's what keeps me coming back. Vermont white cheddar, Gilroy Garlic, Spicy cauliflower... yum! Unfortunately, the wait is always long and the service unpredictable. The staff almost always seemed too stressed to relax in the tight space and so I generally feel bad even asking for simple things. The decor and theme of the restaurant and take-out counter are adorable and so creative! It's ultimately worth the visit.

Mac and Cheese is my favorite thing in the world and this place is my favorite restaurant to get it. There are so many options and every choice is mouth watering. If you live in the Bay Area, you've probably been here before, and you know you love it. If you've never been here...well that's something you need to change. I highly recommend the Mexican Mac and if you don't eat meet feel free to sub the chorizo with soyrizo. Just go here and let your taste buds experience heaven.
(5)Atticus J.
Delicious, and a little bit biased (it's two blocks from my house) but amazing. I went with a group of five and tried to taste everything.... Anything is worth your time and money so go with what feels right. Personally I liked the chorizo most because it seems like the hardest to pull of and get right.
(5)Sean S.
First night of rain in the Bay Area in over a month, I'm told. What is the perfect food to celebrate such a happening? Mac'n'Cheese o'course! homeroom executed with excellence...the Jalapeño Popper was both creamy and adequately spicy with tiny bits of jalapeno strewn throughout. Big Apple, a pint of pleasure combining Stout and cider sealed the deal. Speedy service combined with awesome mac and cheese, it doesn't get much better than this!
(5)William L.
I've used Gornick & Gornick for many years. He and his wife are excellent, caring accountants. I've consistently been impressed by their solid work. Without playing questionable games, they've managed to save us money year after year.
(4)Asmita J.
this place is exactly what it markets itself as - a place that delivers delicious, and creative mac n cheese options. my friend and i ordered the popular garlic one (added in chicken) and also tried the jalapeno cheese. both were uniquely different and flavorful. i would definitely want to try some of the other creations, but it might take me a few months to work off all the cream and cheese i ate in one night!
(4)Ted G.
Homeroom is an awesome example of thoughtful, yet unpretentious casual American dining at its best! Anything from their Mac-N-Cheese selection is sure to satisfy! Their extensive offering of the quintessential comfort food creates one delightful problem...how can one try them all?! Sweet-toothed diners with savoir faire know to save room for dessert. The after-dinner treats taste nothing short of homemade! The wait staff all seemed genuinely engaged with how well we enjoyed our food. What more can you ask for!? "A+"
(5)Doris U.
Different types of Mac and cheese. We've tried 4 of them: my favorite is the jalapeño popper Mac and cheese. My grand daughter loved the trailer park Mac, which had potato chips topping. Gilroy one was good, it had garlic in it. Heavy for me, so it was nice we had the Brussel sprouts with it. The Brussel sprouts were good!
(4)Shelly U.
DELICIOUS MAC N CHEESE. All sorts of gourmet-like mac n cheese options, or build your own! All types of mac n cheeses also have a suggested beer pairing - obviously not exactly the mac n cheese you were used to as a kid. It does get a little pricey if you start adding a ton of things, but you will definitely have leftovers! Only thing was that service was a little too slow and there was only one unisex bathroom that was not clean...
(4)Sabrina D.
Awesome 1st time here today Mac n cheese w bacon homemade I don't eat anyone's Mac but AWESOME go homeroom yay
(5)K S.
Pretty good, nice to have a dairy-free option (vegan mac)... as a lactose-sensitive person and not actually vegan, I have to say that their bacon pairs well with the vegan mac (though it may garner raised eyebrows when ordering). The only thing I find weird is that their mac looks *exactly* the same when it's hot and fresh and when it's been in the fridge over night. What sorcery is this?
(4)Suzanne A.
Mac n cheese heaven! Creamy delicious garlic mac! Creamy delicious white cheddar mac! Add-ons galore. What more needs to be said... Enjoy!
(5)Frances L.
Food and atmosphere was great. There was a short wait. One person got the jalepeno dish which was mediocre, but the garlic plus we got an addition of crab in it was delicious and I highly recommend that!!!
(4)Shivina K.
I love the feel of Homeroom as well as their beer/wine pairings. The food comes relatively quickly and their service is great.
(4)Kasey L.
This place has awesome Mac N Cheese. Seriously. But only if you order what you really love. I went with a friend and together we got the Jalapeno Mac and the Gilroy Garlic and we both agreed that the Gilroy Garlic was bomb af and if we had to choose only one food to eat for the rest of our lives, we wouldn't mind if it was the Gilroy Garlic Mac but the Jalapeno one was just okay. My friend and I both eat spicy and we were a little disappointed with the serious lack of spicy in the Jalapeno Mac. The Gilroy Garlic made up for it, however, especially since the service was really good for how busy it was. Make sure you add bread crumbs to the Gilroy Garlic for a truly magical experience!!
(5)Waji A.
Disclaimer: I love Mac and cheese so this review may be a little biased. I was craving Mac and cheese and saw an episode of taste of the bay area which featured homeroom and I was sold. I decided to make the trip. It took 30 minutes to get a seat because the place was packed and the service a bit shaky, but the meal itself satisfied my urge. Also, the beer was really good!
(4)Christine I.
I don't know how this place could get any better. Gilroy garlic mac n' cheese ftw! Can't wait to try everything on the menu! This place is a must do!
(5)Raina B.
The Gilroy Mac. SO GOOD. Ugh, I want it right now.
(5)Robbie F.
Holy crap, try the Gilroy Mac. The gouda sauce is off tha hook! We got a table right when we came in today too around 8. And most importantly (!) our waiter was fully dressed up in OAKLAND A'S gear in honor of us winning the AL West Division Championship! Yes! Good sir, I tip my hat to you! Let's go Oakland! Let's go Homeroom!
(5)Calvin T.
I can see how this place could be heaven for someone who likes mac & cheese. I am however not a fan and homeroom did not convince me otherwise. Service is excellent, I have no complaints, it's just I'm not a fan of mac & cheese. The salads do however look amazing. I'll be sure to order something else next time I'm here.
(3)Sarah P.
I LOVE this place. Have been here a few times, eaten both in and out, and takeout, and service has always been good and friendly, and food has always been perfectly delicious mac n' cheese. Vermont w/ mushrooms AND broccoli is amazing.
(5)Brian Y.
I forget what it was called, but i know it had artichoke hearts in it. I added bread crumbs and bacon to top it off and that made it perfect. Came here for lunch so there was no wait. Would definitely come back to try more. Price is reasonable though parking might be a little tricky since it's on the street.
(4)Victoria A.
I'm surprised this place has such a low rating!!!! Please disregard it if you're in the mood for some good homestyle mac and cheese! Not only is their entree selection amazing but, they have a great selection of non-alchohlic beverages as well including organic limemade, and fresh root beer all served in cute little mason jars. My favorite part about this place is the brunch mac-and-cheese it comes with a fried egg on top!!!! Sounds weird... but, amazing. That and some blue bottle coffee to wake me up, yes please!!!
(5)Kisha G.
Came here for lunch a few weeks back. It was very busy but the wait staff were awesome. In addition the decor is comfortable and the Mac n' Cheese oh my the Mac n' Cheese was the BOMB!!!
(4)Anna P.
This is the best Mac and Cheese you can find. It's right up there with Grandma's mac and cheese. Their Arnold-Palmer was really tasty as well. They make white tea instead of black so it was perfect for a hot day. My work bodies and I will go there to induce a food comma and have lunch for the next day as well.
(5)C. V.
We came here on our wedding night: no reservation, just the two of us, post-reception, clad in our wedding clothes. We had a drink at the bar while we waited, got a table in about fifteen minutes, and we were served with smiles. It was an incredibly tasty, hot meal- we're both allergic to gluten, and Homeroom never leaves us dissatisfied! I would go back at any time, any day. Highly recommended.
(5)Travis J.
Mac and cheese, what more could you ask for.
(4)Bri B.
You love cheese? You love putting all of the things in it? This is the place you want to go. There will always be a line so make sure you have enough time to enjoy yourself. The jalapeno popper mac is my favorite! This is definitely a place you want to try at least once.
(5)Laima K.
If i was a doge, i'd say "such delishus, such wow, so amaze, more cheesse yess pleasse". Jokes aside, this place rocks. Want cheese? They've got it! The best cheese. The mac and cheese paired beer/wine selections are great too. Don't forget to ask for crums on your mac! they make it so much more tasty! Yes, i've been here many many times and would come again anytime. A nice budget friendly place to get your tummy full, for sure. : )
(5)Carole P.
AMOUUUUUUR! I fell in love with this place, this is like heaven on earth for me crazy about macaroni and cheese! I like their originality. They also have amazing desserts and even some are gluten free. It's not expensive and the place is super cute and friendly. Go!
(5)Megan S.
Always incredible mac n' cheese - I always go with their specials and never regret it! Service is friendly and efficient, ambiance is casual and trendy. It is usually busy, so come willing to wait a bit.
(5)Molly Q.
YUM YUM YUM!! This place had been on my bucket list for months and when I finally got there it did not disappoint. Very generous serving sizes, delish pre-made options and the option to build your own!
(5)Mimi F.
I love this place. It's got great mac and cheese, and portions are good, but not too good, if you know what I mean. The lunchtime sandwiches are really great if you want a change, and I've always been happy with their sides. I did a catering order a year ago and everything was done super well.
(5)Katie E.
The Gilroy Mac + Bacon + Breadcrumbs is what dreams are made of. They also make BOMB desserts , if your tummy can handle it after you scarf down your huge portion of mac and cheese (the brownie sundae is my favorite). Overlooking the hipster-ish vibe, this is one of my favorite spots.
(5)Melinda S.
The mac and cheese is fine, but it's overpriced and overhyped. You'll have to stand in line for ages and then sit in a very loud and crowded restaurant. They do offer gluten-free options, though, which is helpful if you're or your company's gluten-intolerant. The servings are also quite large.
(2)Queen W.
My friend told me about this place months ago I finally tried it and I love the mac n cheese. This place has great food, great prices and great customer service.
(4)Juliana C.
Homeroom is super charming and has an awesome staff. We went this past weekend on a cool but sunny day and didn't mind the ~30 min wait hanging out outside with Four Barrel coffee in hand. Danny K got the special with Srarcha and crab while I got the Gilroy Garlic. We both thoroughly enjoyed or macs and had plenty leftover to take home. Overall, a really fun experience!
(4)Original 6.
We've been here a handful of times and have tried a number of their creative and delicious varieties; Mexican, Sriracha (favorite), smokey bacon and the classic... and they are all very good. We've never had to wait more than a few minutes to be seated, but we decided on our most recent visit (12/30/14) to try their "Homeroom to go" service so we could watch a bowl game at home; and their to go service runs like a well oiled machine. Great place... and not just for kids.
(4)David S.
Best comfort food you can find in Oakland! Our server Elliott have us a friendly welcome and a great recommendation to try the smoky bacon mac along with their seasonal ale. We had the roasted butternut squash soup as well. It was a perfect combination for the chilly day on which we went. My wife and I saw a lot of other macs we'd like to try as well (asiago cheese, sriracha, garlic... Nomnomnom!). Looking forward to going back!
(5)C L.
Why is there a service fee for carry out?! Food is good so I give it 4 stars but if I'm going there to pick up my food you shouldn't be tacking on a service fee!
(4)Radha X.
For the mac&cheese lover, this, I'm sure is heaven. So, if that's who you are, ignore the rest of my review. You will love this place, minus the wait. For me...someone who likes it but is fine eating it maybe once a year...it was too much "mac&cheese", emphasis on cheese. You will see everyone ordering a personal bowl, but I could only finish half. Cuz it's very filling, and very very rich. I wish they had a few more options for salads and simple sides, cuz I honestly left craving vegis and anything fresh.
(3)Jim L.
A wonderful neighborhood hot spot. Deliciously rich mac n cheese dishes. The best aspects of this joint are that you can order online and curbside pickup! You just pull up outside on 40th Street, they run out to your car, you give them your name and they run back in and get your grub! You are off and running in about 3 minutes. Its amazing. But this stretch of 40th Street is going to really explode with cool new development in the next few years, watch.
(5)Chris R.
This is one of those places that I try to go to at least once when I come back to the bay. I always order using the app and pick it up to go on a picnic with my girlfriend. I always get the Smokey Bacon Mac with garlic bread crumbs and it really is the best Mac and cheese I've ever had
(4)Victoria T.
Tasty mac and cheese. But it's just mac and cheese. I think it's over hyped.
